Thermae Sylla Spa & Wellness Hotel
Resort hotel
Nature & Parks
Seaside spa resort with luxe rooms, physiotherapy & thermal pools, plus refined dining options.
Bubble bath is very comfortable. It is also hot water to go to the swimming pool in winter. I will go again when I have time!
Timon Niu — Google review
The best is the thermal outdoor pool but the spa treatments are expensive. In the room there isnt any cofee machine nor an electrical kettle. At night they turn on the heater too hot and dry you out in your sleep. The TV screen is too small and the team is not professional, only the manager is. Across the street are the thermals in the public beach inside the sea which are absolutely great.
???? Edith ???? Kimchi — Google review
Have stayed in this hotel several times in the past . As I was unable to get a room on a bank holiday weekend I kindly asked the reception staff if we could pay the admission fee for the hot springs . The lady with the long brown hair ( can’t recall the name ) started shouting at her colleague NO NO NO as if wasn’t even there listening . This is not a behavior appropriate for such a hotel and especially when the request is made not just for recreation but for health reasons. A polite way to deny is what I would expect . I hope the manager takes note of my review . I will certainly think twice before staying here again or use their spa services . It is a sad decline .

Heaven on Earth. Thank you to exist thank you for your constant care to make this place magic. We went 2 times to regenerate and we were very happy and totally refreshed. See you again for sure. Have a great year.
Carmen Hellmann — Google review
It was an okay hotel. Worth the 5 stars just for the size. Giving 3 stars because:
1.I asked for a room with nice view, I got one that had a view of the street with 2 trash boxes as view.
2.We had to cross over to room by passing by an underground hall (really? For a luxurious hotel?). You could see cars parked, abandoned play room filled with chairs e.t.c
3. Massage: was maybe the worst one. I booked for 3 people and this guy literally rubbed us (literally just rubbing) around for 1 hour. And I also paid 300+ € for this. Very very unprofessional for a spa hotel.
Pauline Lee — Google review
I wrote an email regarding the number and they said they have it, come. When we arrived, the guy answered no at the administration office!
What is it ? who will pay for my travel and time? What are you allowing yourself?
Eve N — Google review
Treatments expensive and poor value for money - pleasant, but nothing remarkable and priced at top tier international rates. The place has had a fresh lick of paint in the last year or two but that can’t cover up the fact that it’s actually quite run down and that thermal pools are dirty. Go elsewhere unless you are happy with three star service at a five star price.
Nick de B — Google review
Stayed for 2 nights. Unexpectedly an amazing experience. The total staff ( housekeeping ladies, waiters, spa employees, managers) are extremely friendly and polite in a sincere way ( NOT superficial) and they make you feel at home. The hotel facilities are very well maintained and the Spa employees very professional. The restaurant food is also very good. Congratulations and a big thank you to the General Manager (Giannis) , to Celia ( breakfast) , Vasilis👏 (Spa) and Maria (Spa). We had a great great weekend.

The service is perfect, the staff is very attentive, friendly and extremely helpful at all times.
The acommodations are spot on and the food, wines and drink options are not only diverse, but also very tasty.
If you're looking for a quiet, beautiful retreat, where you can relax, reload and get exquisite service, I can only recommend Thermae Sylla Spa

Pool needs renovation as mold shows on all tiles at surface level. Breakfast was so rich and left nothing more to require!
Staff was very polite, from reception to cleaners! They posted a mobile phone we realized we left behind.
VASS IOSS — Google review
On the Aithipsos promenade, there are plenty of restaurants, but if you walk right to the end; near the thermal spars, you’ll find this place. No waiting for a table, immediate table service. A menu designed with sophistication in mind.
This is an expensive restaurant to eat at, regardless of circumstance. But you’re paying for the highest quality.
The chefs are artists. Magicians dedicated to the high arts of culinary mastery. The service staff know exactly how to make you feel at home. In fact I would go as far as to say, this is the closest you can come to a home cooked meal on all of Euboea.
The menu specifically states that the chef learnt from generations of Greek grandmothers. I do not believe there is a better source to grasp mastery of cooking than Greek yayas.
Eat here. Every mouthful you will exclaim a “wow” or an “omg”. Well worth it.
Aidipsos is a popular town in the summer.
One of the best experiences at a beach I've had. The sea has crystal clear water, but I wan you it is cold :) . There are loads of restaurants all around that serve tasty dishes at reasonable prices. All in all I recommend this wonderful place to anyone !

Beautiful and popular beach. It's often very crowded and difficult to find a spot. Finding a parking spot was also very tricky.

Beautiful beach! Nice and crystal clear sea!
Unfortunately overcrowded.
Kambi Kambi — Google review
Beautiful beach. Easy to park and good stairs down. There are also a couple of restaurants and bars nearby. The water is perfect blue and the rocks on the beach are really nice but I would suggest to use slippers, especially at the other beach.
Coen — Google review
A complete must.
A bit of a long drive down hill, but on a paved road in very decent state. Get early as the cliffs surrounding the beach start to cast shade early in the afternoon.
Great restaurant overlooking the sea next to the parking lot.
Nico B. — Google review
Fairly easy access with paved road all the way. Parking at the top and a medium walk down to the beach. Beware of windy days when the waves are tall! Tragic prices at the beach bar. 20 euros for two beach chairs and an umbrella! Bring your own there is plenty of natural shade. There is also a fresh water shower and a changing room.
Sotiris Zafranas — Google review
Totally overrated beach!
It's very narrow and in case of waves, the beach almost disappears. The little rock arch is ridiculous. The little booth which sells over priced food and drinks is also ridiculous. And to make things worse, they charge
20 Euros for a sunbed and umbrella
whiches is three times the price you pay on the beaches nearby.
We were there during low season and even then it was overcrowded.
We left after 10 minutes. Don't waste your time with the long drive to get there. Not worth visiting!
Jack Lobo — Google review
Rocky beach, not very large, so gets crowded easily. The waves may hit hard so don’t set too close to the water. Large cliffs to jump from for who’s interested. Rocks and small caves to explore for children. Parking not very generous also, so best if you come early. As a general conclusion, not to be missed. The views are spectacular from above and on stairs, even though it’s not the most comfortable beach in the area
Adina Iordache — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. The water is clear, warm and full of small fishes. There are some sun beds and umbrellas and a bar.
Peter Ralev — Google review
Woooow!
One of the best beaches in Pillion.
The beach is surrounded by nature and the sea is super clean with clear blue water and clean sand.
There are many big boulders in the water and kids are jumping from them to the sea and you can see bigger kids doing some extreme cliff jumping from high places. Between the boulders and it the cliffs surrounding the beach there are many caves and passeges that you can go through.
The beach is basically divided to 2 parts and the only way to get to the other side is through a big stone arch. There is a nice Cafe and showers in the middle of the beach.
Getting there from the parking area is through a path with many stairs that will take you about 3 minutes to go down and 6 minutes to climb back up.
Very recommended.
Joni Gritzner — Google review
This is indeed the beautiful beach. It is divided by 2 by the rocks and in my opinion, the 2nd part is even better. Water is super clean and that makes something special. However, the beach is a bit narrow and full of people. Better to come early. There is also a bar and restaurant there. At the time we were there, we had big waves, making it even more fun.
Lukasz De — Google review
One of the best beaches in the region. There is one bar where you can rent umbrellas and sunbeds, the prices are ok. There are two parts of the beach divided by huge rock, it is very interesting and nice. The sea is clear and has that beautiful mixture of emerald green and blue colors. There is a parking, and once you park the car you will need to go down to the beach but the path is easy, there is even a small caffee on a way down.

If you're a fan of History, Sparta or simply the 300 movie this is a place you got to visit. Be warned though: Not much is left (or at all). The Athanasakio Archaeological Museum of Volos houses a collection of ancient artifacts, such as tombstones, gold ornaments and sculptures. The exhibits are displayed in a refined neoclassical edifice.
When you first walk into the museum you would naturally think it’s relatively old style with high ceilings and outside lighting through skylights and bright lamps that reflect of glass. Also white walls with hessian backings. These days lots of modern museums are dark with close LED lighting focused on the objects. However what you find is something very special. Many of the most important objects - mostly in the Neolithic section - are actually not behind glass at all. That gives the viewer a real close and personal contact with the objects. And the Neolithic objects are quite brilliant. A very important museum to visit.
jeremy kalous — Google review
Closes at 15:30, 4€ entry, most explanations are only in Greek and only two sections of the museum are open.
Interesting, but not a must.
Nico B. — Google review
The museum was disappointing, even on a rainy day with few other things to do in Volos. The exhibits were quite interesting but poorly explained and not put into context. Especially for children it was not very accessible. Also the exhibition is much smaller than the size of the building would lead to assume.
Tobias Stapf — Google review
In the museum you get an opportunity to obtain hands-on experience of the life in ancient Greece. There is a kiln, where pottery was made. There is a tavern, where food was cooked and served. There's a dark room where treasures of a tomb are displayed. There is even a music room, where you can listen to different music instruments.
Part of a Palace and a theater are on display as well.
Not to mention the treasures of the basement. There's a giant foot of Zeùs and other interesting exhibits.
And in just 2 minutes walk outside the museum garden, you can see for yourself rebuilt houses of a Neolithic settlement along with the walls around it.
Elizaveta Rodina — Google review
I would recommend having a guide to help explain what all the artifacts are and their relevance to history. Thankfully we had a guide that was passionate about her job.
Shawn Price — Google review
I visited it yesterday, 19 December. There are four rooms on the ground floors and a big one in the basement. Every piece of information, but in one room, is in Greek and English, making the tour truly educational even if you struggle with modern Greek. In one room
they could not switch the light on, so a lady from the staff apologised profusely, saying a few words in English as I was uttering a few words in modern Greek.
It is definitely worth a visit.

What a pleasant surprise! A small museum kept us busy for more than two hours! Many interesting and even unique articles, staring from 6.000 years b.c. , carrying history, stories, religion, everyday life, art, feelings and many little secrets that kept our curiosity and interest high.
To all above I must add that the personnel was available and polite. A special thanks to Mr. Tzanis, who helped us a lot noticing and understanding the hidden tips of many articles. Congratulations for his interest, knowledge and efforts.

Petralona Cave is a prehistoric cave full of stalactites and stalagmites that offers tours to visitors. Adjacent to the cave is an anthropological museum. Although it was closed for renovations until December 2021, visitors who made the journey had an adventure getting there as there are no direct buses and it takes over an hour uphill walk. The tour inside the cave took less than an hour, but the guides were knowledgeable and answered all questions well.
Easy access . Sufficient parking space. Clean restrooms . Helpful and friendly personnel. Self service canteen with seating area and low prices.
You enter the caves in groups , escorted by a guide. Not slippery at all ! There are a couple of narrow passages but nothing extreme.
ANGIE BAX — Google review
The caves are still shut down with no date to be opened. You're able to walk around the grounds and hike the trails. The day that I visited the main street had major repairs being done on it.

If you’re thinking about visiting the cave, don’t. It is still closed as of March 25, 2023. As for hiking the nearby mountain, unfortunately I did not find any usable trails. Maybe from the other side but overall it’s just not worth the hassle. Don’t bother.

The animal fossils and the skull that was.

As a group's tour leader I would like to warmly thank all the staff of the cave for their impeccable service! We needed special transport for people with mobility difficulties and they served us right away!!! The cave is amazing, just as I remembered it and the courtyard area with the refreshment bar wonderfully renovated! The coffee is great as is the view! It is definitely worth it!!! Thanks for everything!!!

Short (10 minutes tour), expensive, crowded, the employees enforcing a no photos rule (w or w/o flash) without an obvious reason. But beautiful, safe, with a scenery view to remember in front of the cave.

This was nothing short of a magical experience. I cannot describe the beauty of the natural formations at this cave. The presentation was also most delightful and worth the time and money spent in getting to this location. I would recommend the tour highly and recommend this be a mandatory stop for anybody who comes to Thessaloniki
Arun Lahiri — Google review
The cave is very beautiful and attractive. It Is like Indiana Jones movie. But our tour guardian (as she calls herself) was rushing us to finish the tour in 20 min. Increase they don't offer any kind of guides unless you pay 100€ for a private one. So that's why the visit was like sheep crossing a mountain road - in silence, no permission for questions or photos. Pity!
Божина Ангелова — Google review
We went one hour ago to the Petralona cave. The cave was spectacular, but there was not any guided tour. There was no time to see anything as you had to walk fast and in the meantime nobody was telling us anything about what we where seeing. Supposedly somewhere in the cave there was found a skull but even for that nobody told us where it was found.
And not only that but after the end, when we were leaving , we saw that the next girl that was entering inside was talking to the people and she was offering them a guided tour.
Really unacceptable all the situation that happened, they are only interested to gain money from the tickets and not to inform the tourists about the attraction that they have paid for.

It is great experience to visit the cave and the museum. Our guide Grigori explained a lot for the cave an the proces of creating the stlagmites and stalactites. About the animals and humans using the cave as a shalter rather than home. Its temperature is 17 degrees celsius during the whole year. You wont regret the visit of the cave.

Picturesque, stone remnants of a 13th-century fortification overlooking the Aegean Sea.
In a landscape of unparalleled beauty in the south of The Prefecture of Pieria in Platamonas, lies the Castle of Platamonas, one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Greece.
It is built at a strategic point, on a rocky protrusion, in the blue waters of the Aegean, in the area that fully verifies the name of the place: PLATAMON means "rocky edges on the sea".
It is worth visiting it even if you do not wish to see a castle because it is sure that the endless view to Halkidiki, the coasts from Katerini to Mesagkalas, west the village of Neos Panteleimonas and northwest the mountain Olympus will compensate him.
The distance from the parking lot to the entrance of the castle is about 300 meters.

Nice view and a well preserved piece of history. Dominates the view in the surrounding area.
Can be approached from the land via car or from the beach through a steep forest path. Unfortunately it was closed when I visited, but was still worth to take a look. The view is nice from the top of the hill it is situated on top of.
?kos Seres — Google review
As a castle it comes with great history, the view from the top is breathtaking, but it isn't for sure comfortable walking on top of sharp rocks at the path until you get to the castle. It would be nice if they built a new path right next to the old one, so that people with disabilities may have access. Inside the castle the area is a little disappointing as if they don't care to preserve it. Overall it's worth visiting but it isn't easily accessible, make sure you wear boots and have good balance.

It has a spectacular view, the fares of the tickets are great (free for EU citizens under 25). It is good that after the exhausting journey up the hill to the castle, there are plenty of space to relax under the trees, so in the summer it is also okay. The only thing that I miss is proper exhibition-like experience: displayed information or visualized historical elements.

Well worth the visit. A small walk up the hill and you are drawn in by the towering castle walls.
Inside through the gates there are several old churches from the Byzantine era to explore of scale the walls and enjoy the amazing vista from above.

I liked the experience - I believe it is a great tourist attraction and provides opportunity to sightsee in the area. In the summer it is open until 19:30 and the tickets you buy when you enter the fortress and not right away when you enter the premises. There are not many information signs but it is nice to walk around and see what has been preserved as well as the view from the top is breathtaking. There is parking, also discounts for families and children. There is no opportunity to climb in the tower so don't expect that.
Madlen Nenkova-Ivanova — Google review
Amazing place to visit. The top is full of trees and benches, so people can relax and rest while looking at the old architecture and walls.
I recommend to take the pathway up to the hill. It has shade as well as amazing views, opposed to the stairs which can be tiresome for some especially in a hot Summer day.
Remember to take some water.

Beautiful view, centuries of history in one place. Avoid mid-day for visits, bring some water with you. I can understand that they want to keep the place clean and preserved, but it would be nice to have some vending machines inside, for water, at least.

The winery Ktima Gerovassiliou is located in Thessaloniki, and has a museum with a lot of history. The staff are very friendly and the wine is good. If you're visiting the area, it's worth going there.
One of the best designed wineries in Greece! Perfect location, excellent tours and a fantastic wine-tasting experience afterwards!

A friend took us to this winery. We took part in a 45-minute tour of the winery while the guide explained the origin of the winery and the winemaking process. Very interesting and educational. The winery contains its own museum as well as various sculptures by famous world and local artists. I am delighted with this place. At the end, we tasted wines and cheese on a sunny terrace with a view of the vineyards.

Nice setting over the hills of Epanomi. I wasn't convinced by the wines beyond the famous Malagouzia but I enjoyed very much the generous cheese plateau, the friendly service and the excellent atmosphere. Wine tasting is always a very unique experience and this was a worthy one.

We felt this winery has the best setup for visitors we have ever experienced. The guided tour is exceptionally well designed (and short of wine making jargon). The tasting (see photo) is a flavor experience. The setting of the winery and vineyard is beautiful. The modern art dispersed through the vineyard is tasteful. The experimental vineyard is a great experience if you are into grape varieties. The winery’s museum is the best estate museum I have seen so far (ok, Mouton Rothschild’s museum in Pauliac is also quite good). And the personnel is very knowledgeable and helpful. Don’t miss visiting this winery if you happen to be in the area and like wine.

An amazing estate with an exceptional wine museum.Especially the private wine opener collection. Highly recommended for art lovers too. The tour was informative, but the wine tasting session was really bad. We tried the ECHO wine tasting that includes different vintages of red and white wines... The staff just served us 7 glasses on the table and left....No info, no discussion, no hints or food recommendation about the wines we sampled. Not even a little booklet with info about the tasting profile of the wines. Big disappointment....

A hidden gem near Thessaloniki. I’m surprised more people haven’t found out about this place (but also glad). We have visited twice and both experiences were awesome. The first time (September 2021), we did the tour and then tasted some vintage wines. The second time, we sat outside, had some great cheeses and cured meats, and tried some more wines. The charcuterie is out of this world, the options were fantastic (ask for the holzhofer, you won’t be able to find it anywhere else in Greece except a small deli in Athens). The space is beautiful. Just vines everywhere, a really peaceful winery. The wines are amazing, and we loved how many vintage wines you can taste. The staff is very knowledgeable and they helped us a lot both times. I can’t wait to show this place to more people!

Had a great time at Ktima Gerovassiliou. We went on a walking tour around the vineyard, production facilities and museum with an impressive collection of corkscrews and other agricultural equipment (the tour was in Greek and English), followed by wine tasting (we went for 'craft your own tasting' option when you can select the wines you want to try) & some wine shopping.

A jewel winery 20' away from Thessaloniki. The estate is located on the top of hill outside from Epanomi, with great 180° view of Thermaikos gulf, and surrounded by 200 acres or 800.000m2 of vines. Within the estate you can find a cafe-restaurant with glass walls (to enjoy the view) and a fabulous wine museum which among all its exhibitions includes also an enormous corkscrew collection of more than 2.500 pieces. The estate offers tours for the winery and the museum. Congratulations to our estate's guide for his thorough knowledge!
The White Tower is a notable landmark in Thessaloniki and was once a prison and execution ground. It now houses an interactive exhibition on the city's history.
A visit to the White Tower of Thessaloniki is an immersive journey that captivates the senses and transports visitors to bygone eras. From its architectural splendor to its engaging exhibits and sweeping vistas, this historic landmark is a true gem of Greece. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a culture lover, or simply a curious traveler, the White Tower is a must-visit destination that will leave you with lasting memories and a deep appreciation for the vibrant history of Thessaloniki

Great building and Tower. Not really white ;) Though the second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki does really feel smaller - a plus, I consider, for such a historic city. There are many historical sites all over Thessaloniki, many of which are not widely known. On Google Maps, just tap the compass to see these, filter by attractions and distance, it'd bring attractions near you and just explore.

The view is mesmerizing. You can see the whole city, mountains, sea,.. easily. But, other than that not much for the castle itself. But I liked the old town and streets. It was a calm place and nice to walk in the town.

A beautiful view of the sea and Thessaloniki. However, it can be windy there, so you have to be careful with your phone. The ticket price is right. There are additional exhibitions inside, and entry is free for EU citizens under 25 years of age.

The cost to enter the building was 3 euros. Nothing is written in English. You would have to pay for and audible device to listen to for the tour. Just FYI is to watch your head. Most of the ceilings and the entrances to each rooms are built for Hobbits. I did really enjoy the overall experience though. The view on the very top was beautiful. I would recommend to see this place.

Very nice place. I was there in December so no queues and very little people. There is a nice view from the top. Definitely worth going up. In each floor there is a small exhibition, for example of old photos (how does this tower and it's neighborhood looked like hundred years ago). Small gift shop at the top floor. I think people up to 26 years have a free entrance. View from the top is amazing.

The best place for a great view. The tower offers a spot for a watch over the city center and the port. The tower is a museum now days and you will have to pay 6 euro entering it. Inside there are a round stairs surrounding the tower all the way up. Nice and fun for taking pictures on the back of the great views of the city.

Not to crowded. Bought the tickets as soon as we entered. Scanned QR code for the audio guide and enjoyed our tour. There's a lot to learn and see about Thessaloniki's history. When you get to the top you'll be rewarded with the astonishing view of the city.

Very fun learning experience. Scanned the QR code for an English audio. We entered for Free on the National Free Museum day. For tall people, mind your head in most of the inside. Wonderful view from the top!

What a cool historical spot! Well worth the 3 euro to get in and it was fun being able to go to the top and look out! So much history to explore here!

The Tower is a relic of the city’s fortification. Currently a museum of the history of Thessaloniki. The entrance costs 3 euro and you better take that audio guide with you (it’s free od charge) because everything is only in greek. Six floors of interesting content and a balcony with a magnificent view. Prepare yourself for some stairs (start a week before on that stair climber at your gym ;)).
Pan Piotr — Google review
A beautiful place with a panorama. The ticket (6€) includes an audio guide in 4 languages (English and Russian for sure), but you need your own headphones for the audio guide. This surprised me a little. There are a lot of installations inside, but everything is in Greek and an audio guide would help to understand more. At the very top there is a beautiful panorama of the city around.
Ira Noskova — Google review
Had to be visited as the main attraction point in Thessaloniki. The area around it is great and externally it is an impressive building. The view from the top is great but than again it is not hugely tall and after a few photos I assume you get down.
I can't see the appeal of the exhibition inside unless you are Greek speaking.
There is not a single English description next to the exhibitions.
Audio guide recommended by QR code was: done poorly and not good to walk through the exhibitions (single audio track per floor). You can't listen to it on mobile unless you had earphones on you or quickly each floor is filled with cacophony of multiple visitors listening loudly on mobile.
Google lens for translation worked on some exhibits but is will drain your mobile battery quickly.
This could easily be improved.

It is kind of a place populated by homeless people. You can take a boat tour here, but I did not really like it overall as it is not really friendly for tourists infrastructure wise and information points or clean spaces or benches to sit outside in the shade when there is very hot to be outside.

The icon of Thessaloniki with great view from the top of the tower.
If you want to visit the museum, then you should think about a combined 3 days ticket. It will allow you to visit 3 museums in the city and Rotunda. So you can spare some money. It costs 15€.

Thessaloniki is a beautiful city with access to the sea, a rich history and a lot of things to visit. One of those is the white tower about which there are complaints. They don't have a guide in the Serbian language, even though most of the tourists are from Serbia, and they charge us more for the ticket because we are not in the European Union.

The Church of St. Demetrios is an ancient building that honors Thessaloniki's patron saint. It is built over the site of a Roman bath house and contains Saint Demetrius' body. The crypt beneath the church contains Dimitrios' relics, which are an important part of Greek culture.
The Church of Saint Demetrius, or Hagios Demetrios (Greek: Άγιος Δημήτριος), is the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki, dating from a time when it was the second largest city of the Byzantine Empire. It is part of the site Palaeochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki on the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO since 1988.

This magnificent church was the highlight of our Thessaloniki trip. Walking in you feel the spiritual aura embrace you. Saint Demetrius, we were informed by a local, is the protector of the city. We noticed a line of parishioners to the left of the altar waiting their turn to enter the white round structure that housed Saint Demetrius’s picture. Speaking to two separate locals, one mentioned she prayed for anything that she needed divine blessings for, and another mentioned prayers were usually for the young as saint Demetrius died when he was fairly young. As we were about to leave, John who we were about to purchase a momento from, asked us if we visited the crypt in the lower level. We are profoundly grateful to this kind stranger. Because of him, we had the most incredible experience. We walked down the steps expecting to find a small crypt, but it was a huge ancient excavated site where the remains of Saint Demetrius was discovered (facing the altar, steps are on the right of the altar, at the back). We appreciated the English translations as the history of this religious site is incredible.

If you have a passion for history, art, and culture, then the Holy Church of Saint Demetrius in Thessaloniki is an absolute must-visit! This incredible church holds the prestigious title of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and serves as the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the beloved patron saint of Thessaloniki. It stands proudly as one of Greece's largest and most significant churches, making it an essential stop for any traveler.
Prepare to be enchanted by the stunning Byzantine architecture that graces the church's façade. Inside, you will be greeted by an exquisite collection of mosaics and frescoes that are sure to take your breath away.
There are a few hidden corners requiring some exploration on the visitor part and of course do not miss the crypt (basement).
The crypt is the place where Saint Demetrius was martyred in the early 4th century AD. You will find there a network of chambers and tunnels that were originally used as Roman baths.
However, after Saint Demetrius was martyred, the baths were converted into a crypt and a place of pilgrimage.
These contains the tomb of Saint Demetrius and few of his relics.
We visited the Church on mid week morning which was a joy as the Church was quite empty and easy to explore.
A highly recommended visit!

Probably one of the largest churches in Greece, not only in Thessaloniki, a true symbol of Orthodoxy. It contains numerous holy relics, including those of Saint Demetrius, icons, frescoes, mosaics and other religious objects of great value and significance. You can also enter the basement area, the crypt, where the remains of Saint Demetrius were found. For believers visiting Thessaloniki, a visit to this holy place is mandatory

The Church of St. Demetrius is the patron saint of Thessaloniki, it is among the most visited sights of the city. The building lies on old Roman baths. The temple was built in the 4th century AD. In the 5th century it was rebuilt into a three-building basilica. After a large fire, only the ruins of the present-day church remain of the basilica. This happened in 629-634.
A hexagonal tomb lined with silver is kept in St. Demetrius, and there is a bed on the tomb on which no one rests, and it is believed that the structure has a symbolic meaning rather than a real tomb.
Very beautiful place!

A beautiful building with an amazing crypt. A very busy church as there are many icons and the remains of St Dimitrios which has a constant line of those wishing to pray. The crypt is wonderful. The stairs are a little hard to find. When you enter the church go to the far right hand aisle and go to the end and they are just to the left. There are toilets to the left of the buildings but squat toilets.

Yoldayım — Google review
I was lucky to be here on a Sunday with a baptism being held, it was moving and felt special. This is very much an active church, you need to be suitably dressed and respectful of worshippers. There are many icons devout Orthodox Christians were kissing and praying at. As a tourist it can be hard to see past the showy gold of the icons but take at least half an hour to walk peacefully in the church. You may like to write a slip of paper for a prayer for a loved one or light a candle. Whatever the weather, a good reprieve and space to gather your thoughts.

Very beautiful church service on Sundays - fully packed congregation with a range of local people (young adults, families, senior citizens). You can feel the sanctity of the church as well as the divine essence encompassed within the grounds. The incense used during the service was beautiful.
The catacombs downstairs are very fascinating as well. The staff could be a bit friendlier (not the people leading the service but the ones responsible for replenishing candles and maintenance of the building).

Aristotelous Square is a vast public square in the heart of Thessaloniki, Greece that is surrounded by some of the citys most luxurious residences and cafes. Designed by Ernest Hebrard, the square features an impressive view of Mt Olympus and was originally built to showcase the citys Byzantine heritage. Today, its buildings are home to a diverse range of architects and boast a grand rhythm reminiscent of the rue du Rivoli.
Really busy and buzzing Square full of action. There is a cinema nearby, the lovely beach, shops and restaurants alike, making it a hot-spot for tourists. Thoroughly enjoyed the area, stretching further to other busy spots without noticing the walk. I'd suggest walking around and searching your preferences on Google Maps to find the right food place, though I'd strongly suggest traditional restaurants. Checkout my reviews of restaurants in Thessaloniki. There are loads of things to see and do around.

An indispensable part of the city’s heritage. This type of architecture demonstrates how unique this place is. The only downside is that the government should be stricter with vandalism and pay more attention to damages happening throughout the years in an attempt to retain the area intact and beautiful. The square could also comprise mini shops or activities for the visitors, instead of being a large empty square solely used for walking. The area should be treated more as a landmark, than being empty and just surrounded by nice buildings and a bus stop.

Thessaloniki, a vibrant city with a rich history and lively atmosphere, captivates visitors with its blend of ancient charm and modern flair. The city's enchanting streets and waterfront offer a feast for the senses, making it a must-visit destination. However, planning a visit during the Christmas period may pose challenges, as finding a parking spot can be a daunting task. Despite this, the spectacular sunset over the cityscape serves as a breathtaking compensation, casting a warm and golden glow that enhances Thessaloniki's allure. Consider timing your visit outside the holiday rush for a more relaxed experience.

Many of the tourist attractions are within 7-12min walking distance (Agia Sofia Square Church, Ancient Agora/Roman Forum of Thessaloniki, Agios Dimitrios, The Rotunda, Arch Of Galerius, etc). We had a 6hrs stopover, on our flight from Frankfurt to Athens, so we took the opportunity to check out Thessaloniki, the ancient capital of Macedonia! The airport shuttle took around 45minutes (Bey Hamam bus stop). Cost only 2€ pp! Taxis are available too. Everyone speaks English and very helpful and kind. This is like the main square here and you walk all the way up, it looks really nice the first time but it gets pretty normal afterwards. The whole sqare itself gets quite crowded sometimes esp during dinner time.
Its quite an easy street because you can always re-direct yourself once you come across this square. There isnt alot of seating here and I've seen a few public restrooms as well but I cant say if they were clean or not.
The floor is made of marble and is quite smooth and nice

Today, while having lunch at restaurant Marathos, our experience was ruined by the restaurant host, a man in his 40s who was incredibly rude.
He approached a table of guests at a nearby restaurant who were dining outside with their dog. The dog was simply being a dog, barking and greeting other dogs passing by, which is quite normal for outdoor dining areas where various noises are expected, including those from vehicles, animals, and music.
However, the host suddenly approached one of the guests, who was enjoying lunch with his family and baby, and made a completely uncalled-for and offensive remark. He stated that in Greece, barking dogs must wear a mask. His behavior created an extremely unpleasant atmosphere for everyone nearby.
As an employee whose primary responsibility is to welcome and assist guests, his behavior was completely unacceptable. Instead of attracting guests, he ended up attacking them, especially those who were not even guests of his restaurant. It's disappointing to encounter such a lack of manners in someone whose job is hospitality and politeness.

Awesome archaeological site. It's vast so even if you walk quickly you definitely need 1.5 hours. Lysh greenery, impressive canopy over our heads creating shade, lots of little rivers and small ponds. We visited ( 2 adults, 2 pre teen kids) early August 2022, at 18:15, on a 36 degrees Celsius day and felt the heat only dyring the last half hour walk. Signage needs improvement in the site. If you are an ancient history buff this is will suit you well. It is a huge sit with many ruins. Unfortunately it is very run down and unkempt. There are a few nice mosaics but mostly it is foundations with a reproduced small theatre and loads of foundations. There is an extensive excavation and maintenance program but it is not there yet. Nice to wander through the park but disappointing otherwise.

Very historic place. Not much left of the ruins but very interesting if you read the signs. Nice little museum with remaining statues.

Archeological site is like a huge park with trees, river and remains of old village, including 2 theatres - Roman (small) and Hellenic (big). Hellenic theatre that you see on satelite map is inside the complex, so you go straight to entrance, get the tickets and path will guide you throug.
After this site I recommend to visit the Museum in the city (Archeological site tiket price covers it as well) so the full image of old Dion will be even more close.

We really enjoyed our time here. I’d recommend stopping in if you’re in the area. You need about 1.5-2 hours to see everything properly - and I’d recommend walking the entire grounds. The bath house was fascinating. Some better placards and directions would make this site even better.

The place is absolutely stunning and huge! It is a true walk through ancient history.
Piece of advice: do not visit in July or August because the heat will melt you. We wished to spend more time in the archeological site, but we simply couldn't bear the heat and we gave up after an hour of walking in the scorching sun.

Beautiful and large park full of wonders. Must visit!
Victor Mihailescu — Google review
The Park itself is a place full of history and by itself an interesting place to visit. Unfortunately the place seems to be taking care of itself. Some visitors make it worse by littering the park. Plastic bags and cups were seen on the soil and water streams close to important sites there. This was shocking.
There is no guide, no suggested route so you basically walk around clueless until you stumble on some ruins. There is no folder with a map you can take, not even in digital format that anyone could download with a qr code, for instance. Instead, you have info boards and some are so damaged or dirty you can't read them. This place has a lot of potential to attract tourists and be an educational hub. Instead, you will be as amazed to see the sites as you will be shocked by the lack of interest in keeping them in good shape. Still, it's very much worth the visit.

It's quite a journey to go through the whole park, we even couldn't finish it. I don't know why but they didn't let us to return to one side of the park when we cross the street to the part with Roman baths and wanted to come back to the places before.
The area is huge, definitely prepare more time to completely discover all the sights. Several sights are not that breath-taking in the eyes of public, some of them are more interesting. The information boards are in Greek and English.
It's quite hot there during summer, in some parts you need to be prepared to walk some distance without a shadow.
There are several water sources to cool down which were nice.

Interesting place and low price to enter. The park seems a little unkempt, and most of the ruins are near-completely gone. However, if you have time during your visit to Greece I would recommend a visit. If you have little time, consider skipping this.

Very interesting and huge archeological site, nice opportunity to take a look how ancient city Dion was organised, many sanctuaries with greek and roman theatres were in one part and urban area with roman baths and odeon in other part. There are also many remains of public toalets and beautiful mosaics and also nice way to see how roman baths functioned!
Jadran Stojadinovic — Google review
The archeological park is huge, if you want to walk around you're in for at least 60-90 mins walk. Quite tiring, I recommend the sanctuary of ISIS if you don't want to walk so long and the ruins immediately at the entrance, there were some impressively intact mosaics on the floors of the initial buildings that you can still see parts of. Please be careful to have water, there are absolutely no shops to get refreshments from!
Raluca Vasiliu — Google review
Great historical site to visit when you’re in the area! Only downside was that enclosed area was closed for some reason and thay still selling tikets for 8 euro. My suggestion is choosing spring and fall to avoid heat on pretty lage open space.

The biggest archeological site in Greece open for public. There is a park with the river nice to walk and you can visit here the ruins of roman and hellenistic city, Dzeus Sanctuary, Demeter Sanctuary, Isis sanctuary, roman and hellenistic remains of the theater. This place was in the ancient time a sea port! You better reserve your time 1- h to visit ALSO archeological museum located in the village, where mosaics and monuments are present that was found by archeologist.

Nestled in a serene setting, Lake Kerkini offers a diverse range of activities and natural beauty. The area is renowned for its abundant birdlife, making it an ideal spot for bird watching. Visitors can enjoy fishing, boat rides, and captivating views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Boat tours provide an opportunity to observe various bird species, including rare and protected ones.
One of the most beautiful lakes in Greece. Good for bird watching, as many spieces of birds both rare and protected exist in the area. Also fish variety, beautiful forests and mountains around the lake. Boat tours are available. Local people are producing many traditional products (i.e. steaks, sausages, milk, sweets) from Buffalos which exist in the area. Good accommodation options at the nearby villages (i.e.Kerkini village).

Amazing place with tremendous flora and fauna. I believe there's no entrance fee as it's an open park. You can take a boat ride that will take you to a spot with most wild birds, it costs around 8 EUR per person. The place is great to visit each season. In the winter it will be full of pink flamingos and pelicans as they stay there for the cold months. In the summer there will be a much greater variety. When the waters go down, you'll be able to see the cattle. Make sure to take the camera!

Having read all of the following comments and having visited this area several times I have to say that "Despite the abandonment", which unfortunately prevails by the competent people the place is worthy of admiration !!! Why..?
1) One of the largest and most important wetlands in Greece.
2) More than 250 species of birds and not only.
3) Surrounded by 4 terms: Beles, Krussia, Hook & Mavrovouni.
4) There are over 10 activities that you can enjoy small adults, some of which are: boating on the lake, hiking, hiking. 5) Located near the town of Serres and the town of Sidirokastro.
For a daily or even better two-day excursion, I would also recommend to visit:
1) Rupela Fort
2) Monastery of Agios Prodromos (Serres because there are 2 in the area)
3) Serres Town, valley & Acropolis
4) Loutra Sidirokastrou
5) In conclusion: May (We) be useless and we can not create and sustain anything, but it seems, however, that Nature itself is a struggle for survival.

Reconstructed tomb of a 3rd-century B.C. Greek ruler, with treasures such as a delicate gold crown.
History and glory. Philip father of great Alexander continues to amaze even from the grave. Glory, attention to detail and the vast history of the man are only few of the reasons you should visit these archaeological sites. Whatever I write is an understatement to the feeling you get when you visit the tomb. It will take you around an hour to pass threw and then you can also visit the palace which is very near from the tomb with the same ticket.
Vas. Th90 — Google review
The tombs themselves are amazing! Only reason for dropping a star is it is confusing what is and isn't open, most things are closed, and €12 a person is a bit steep when most things are closed. But the exhibit is really well put together and still a must see. We went just out of season amd the place was intermittently busy and quiet.

Along with The National Arch Museum in Athens and the Arch Museum in Heraklion I’d consider this one if the top museums in all of Greece. Beautifully arranged inside the burial mound. A fantastic experience. You go inside the tumulus to see the Tom sites in situ. There are displays of the treasures found there and a moving film dedicated to the archeologist showing the discovery and artistic musings on death. The entrance ticket is €15 but this also gets entrance to the polycentric museum a few miles away. Worth the admission.

This place is full of wonderful treasures with real tombs and ancient armor worn by great warriors. The tour guide had an amazing way of talking about the stuff all around us that you would get really immersed and feel as if you where there inside the story. The museum is beatifully built and the representation of the items inside the tomb where very clear. It's nothing compared to the regular museums you probably have been. I won't spoil much, you need to see it with your own eyes!

FANTASTIC! Filip the 2nd was that time the person who ruled the most of the "known land" ! The whole necropolia in this area was about 200 ha, where about 5 ha was dedicated to citizens of the capital of Macedonia around 350 B.C. Possibly the area sorrouning the Royal Tumulus of Filip the 2nd is 5 ha and there are also burried here about 35 000 soldiers of Alexander. Absolutely must-see!!! Many interesting information you may find on English wikipedia. Full ticket 15 Eur and 8 Euro reduced price. You must have document with photo to get reduction for elderly citizens. The ticket is valid fot the Museum of Royal Tombs and archeological sites nearby.

We went to the royal tombs after a long trip from Florian. The staff were polite and the exhibit breathtaking. The dark lights and strategically placed artefacts created a unique atmosphere. However, two things had affected us. The text next to finds was sometimes too small to read or easily attributed to finds. Also the signage and directions to the royal tombs were not clear.
Vasilis Tsamis — Google review
Very impressive museum of one of the most important archeological sites of ancient Greece. The dimmed lights offer a surreal experience of the tombs of many Greek Royals of the Macedonian Kingdom with most important Phillip II (Alexander the Great's father).
The Archaeological Museum of Pella is home to a vast collection of artifacts from ancient Greece, dating back to the time of the Mycenaean civilization. The collection includes objects depicting everything from domestic life to warfare, and provides an excellent overview of the culture and history of this important period in Greek history. Visitors can explore the museum's exhibits in either Greek or English, and there are also several guided tours available.
We’ve visited a few different museums while we’ve been in Greece, but this is our favorite. Really interesting history/artifacts, beautiful building, and lots of information about Pella and Alexander the Great. It’s difficult to decide on a favorite, but the floor mosaics were really well preserved and displayed. The ticket was €7-€8, I think, and it includes entry to the archeological site as well. We arrived a little after mid-day and there was plenty of parking, which was nice because it was really hot and a long walk might’ve done me in.

Rich and interesting finds. Nice details on Alexander and Pella history.
Unfortunately some mosaics are displayed as a picture not original and it is not clear to visitors.
The site was closed early because of the holiday but they didn't mention it as I entered.

Though the mosacis in the museum are more well preserved. A good map of all the sites in Pella provided by the museum could have been much help .

Very good museum. Climatized, this may be very good in summer. First you see a film, then the artefacts. Do not touch the metal door things, its so tempting. ;-) may be good to visit before you go an see the actual excavations. We did it the other way round which was also ok.
TheEvdriver — Google review
The museum itself is small and hasn't got anything outstanding, the real draw is the ancient ruins of Pella. Nothing much of the city remains, particularly the temple to the mother of the gods across from the Agora (don't bother with that). But it still fascinating to walk the same streets of Phillip II and Alexander III. Highlights being the baths and mosaics. I believe they're working still on the palace complex at time of this post.

Should just be a 3 stars hotel rather than a so-called 5 stars hotel! Everything seems old and out-dated. There was no air-conditioning in the room. The room was stuffy. I opened the window but it was very noisy owing to people activity in the square outside. Some of the lamps in the room were not working. The shower room door was broken. There was no electric kettle and coffee or tea in the room. The room was small and there was not enough room to open my 2 luggages and placed them flat on the floor without hindering the walk way in the room. The breakfast is just so-so. Except the good location, I would not recommend this hotel.

Location is fantastic couldn’t be better right in the square with great views of river and castle
The shower was awful and very old and didn’t function correctly. More water on the bathroom floor than in the shower, food in bistro was cheap and tasty service was good. Gets very warm in room during the night and if you open windows it’s extremely noisy from people on the square. Did not sleep well and kept waking up due to noise.first impression of room was it’s quote nice but on closer inspection it’s very old and dated.there are no usb phone charging sockets in rooms and reception said they couldn’t help. Couldn’t get the television to operate at all. breakfast wasn’t great and just very basic mainly cold food and some fruit.
Generally ok for the price but should be listed as a 3 star rather than 5 star hotel.

Nice clean hotel in excellent location. A bit overpriced for what they offer but I guess you are paying from the name. The restaurant on the top floor has a great view over the river (albeit partially blocked now due to a new building being constructed), but you can get much better food in this town for those prices (but it is OK). The gym is really bad for a hotel this price and expected rating (only three machines, TCC Plaza Hotel has a much better one), this is the main reason they are not getting a full 5 start rating from me, but they have a pool and jacuzzi.

Hotel may be have been good in the past. But no renovations are made. Room smells, bathroom was not clean. Shower cabin was broken and very dirty. Windows dont isolate noices from outside. All night you can hear people talking on the square. Also at 5:20 at the morning muslim mosque starts to "sing" and all dogs on the square start to howl.

The Old Bazaar in Skopje is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful architecture and mix of Ottoman and European culture. It's the perfect place to find antique items at incredibly low prices, as well as enjoy a variety of precious gold jewelry. The market also offers a fascinating mix of modern and ancient technology, handmade crafts, luxury jewelery and more.
Lovely area for spending some quality time in central Skopje indoors and out. Lots of amazing architecture of various sorts in and around the Old Bazaar too from churches to mosques to museums and shops, restaurants, coffee shops and more. It's all winding streets so ambling is your best bet. Go, explore, get lost and find yourself again later.

Located in the heart of Skopje, a place rich with history and cultural heritage. Warm and welcoming to tourists. Local food abounds as well as fashion, jewelry and anything you can primarily think of.
Amazing and a sight to see. Just like any busy tourist place. Watch your belongings and keep safe.

The Old Bazar is a must see when in Skopje. Dating back to the 12th century, this is a place full of life filled with culture and history. Filled with shops, restaurants, cafes, mosques, and museums. You can transform your self back to a day gone by filled with people enjoying a day out and or earning a living for them or their families. See little shops with tiny apartments above where people would work during the day and live their lives at night. See the old bath houses. Just an amazing place. I loved my visit.

Old part of town that surprised me with its size, I expected something tiny, but then got lost in a maze of streets before managing to find my way.
Here you can find basically everything you need as a tourist for really good prices.
The best local food is also found here, look no further.

A great selection of small winding streets with a wide range of shops and restaurants. One of the nicest aspects is that none of the shop keepers are forceful or hassle you when walking past, and it doesn’t have any of the expected pressure you’d imagine when reading up on the area. There’s clearly a lot of history and some nice monuments as you’re passing through, and with plenty of cafes and restaurants you can easily spend a whole day exploring at a leisurely pace. Definitely one of the highlights of the city.

Kind and warm people. Old ottoman vibes. Best area for traditional foods. We visited in December and the weather was being dark around 5 pm. Shops are closing earlier and many of them do not serve on Sunday. If you be careful about timing

Nice vibrant heritage bazar, good for food and shopping.
A lot of places selling good foods and plenty of shops.
You will find nice suites for men’s and well as gown for women’s and beautiful gold jewellery’s.

This is the “Old Town”, historic pedestrian area of Skopje, across the Stone Bridge, headed away from the main square, below the fortress. Lots of meandering cobblestone alleys, & interesting stores selling antiques & souvenirs & other bric-a-brac. It’s completely dead/ semi-closed on Sundays (don’t bother), but during the week, it’s jammed full of folks shopping, & others selling their wares.
At the far end, there’s a big central market that’s really interesting to check out. Lots of fresh fruits & vegetables, along with locally sourced meats & fish & nuts & mushrooms & stuff.
The perimeter is lined with small make-shift vendor store-fronts, if you want to buy cheap goods & lots of pirated knock-offs.
Has a bit of a sketchy vibe, & there are plenty of Roma begging in the area, which can get a little depressing. Keep a close eye on your goodies, as this looks like a prime place to get pick-pocketed (though I thankfully had no issues, personally).
A “must see” in Skopje, as it’s been here forever, & while the goods being sold may have changed, the concept of a major commercial hub for the area, has not.

Amazing!!! Went there few times. A mix of culture and ambiance. Use all your senses when you walk around. Different languages, prayers from mosque and church ring, all products. Very organized and clean. Evening strolls are the best. Despite being popular tourist spot, the prices are local unlike other such places in countries.

The Old Bazaar is by night still full of life and is definitely worth going to.
While some of the narrow streets are empty and the shops are clothed, there are some still full of life. People drinking, eating, playing, and one can enjoy the beautiful combination of the dark night and lights.
It felt perfectly safe to roam the Old Bazaar even though we sometimes we did not see any person in some of the narrow streets.
!The only watch-out are the stray cats and dogs!
Also: locals recommended to not go up to the castle by night, so we definitely did not do that.

A nice place to walk around, the deeper into the market the cheaper. You have to watch out for vendors who often want to sell more expensive just because you are a tourist. You can see the multiculturalism in this place and that's cool

Definitely worth a trip here. Walk over from the Alexander the Great statue in the middle of town over the old stone bridge and then walk through the old bazaar - it’s got a Middle Eastern, North African vibe going on. Lots of restaurants and shops and just overall good ambiance. Different to the other parts of the city. Cool vibes here!

Skopje's main square is one of the city's most popular tourist destinations, with a large statue of Alexander the Great in its center. Around it are numerous shops and restaurants, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the city.
Lake Matka is a charming man-made lake in a scenic canyon, stocked for fishing and with an underwater cave. The region around the lake is full of historic sites, including monasteries, churches and settlements from the former Matka fortress. There are also dozens of caves nearby - including the Vrelo Cave, Krshtalna Cave and Ubava Cave - making this one of the most popular alpine climbing centres in Macedonia.
Absolutely stunning place! Highly recommended for exploring. I also recommend taking a boat trip (30 minutes costs 200 MKD per person), however, be aware of how much they charge you in € as some of them fool you and put the prices up when it comes to €. So I suggest having some local money on you. Regardless, it is a beautiful place to visit. You can take bus #60 from Skopje Central Bus Station and use your Skopska Card to travel. Fabulous place!!

Surrounded by the Matka Canyon, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, the lake offers a myriad of activities, from leisurely boat rides to adventurous kayaking expeditions. Rich in biodiversity, the surrounding landscape is home to diverse flora and fauna, adding to the enchanting allure of this natural gem. Whether exploring the ancient monasteries dotting its shores or simply basking in the serenity of its tranquil waters, Lake Matka promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of Macedonia's untamed beauty.

Lake Matka is a must-visit for nature lovers. The lush greenery and natural views are stunning, and you will be mesmerized by the serene atmosphere. Take the #60 Bus from a central Mall to get there. It's recommended to avoid taxis due to scams. Visit early in the morning and stay until late evening. There are plenty of coffee shops, bars, fresh juice stalls, and good restaurants to keep you fueled up. A boat tour is a must-do activity to fully appreciate the beauty of the lake. Overall,

I would like to have given this a good review and I am sure that it is a nice place BUT... there is a sign that indicates you cannot take pictures inside the church. Fine, I can respect that and only have done so where it is allowed. However, you can take pictures from the outside but I was reprimanded for trying to take a picture from the outside looking inwards - very stroppy guide who seemed unable to comprehend what the sign was indicating in English. The irony is that there was a small service going on deep inside and I could see one of the participants wearing a short skirt and no shoulder covering using their mobile phone to take pictures. I was not able to take a picture of this as they were inside... so, it is one rule for outsiders and another for those within the community. We then tried to buy some postcards at the shop - these came to €1 for three. We only had a €10 note and the server said she could not give us change. So, we left the cards and set off to leave but then miraculously (this is a monastery after all), she did have change and would take the note. The whole experience was one of - we don't want you here - the monastery is probably very nice if you can get past the unfriendly / unhelpful staff.

Beautiful monastery built in 1321 and placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. It is the last monastery built by Serbian king Stefan Milutin.
Gračanica was built on the ruins of an older 13th century church of the Holy Virgin.
It is interesting that the blue colour for frescos was ordered by king Stefan Milutin from Afghanistan and it was paid in gold (1 litre of colour was paid by 1 kilogram of gold).
During its existence, it was heavily damaged several times by the Ottomans and lastly in 1999 by NATO when it was bombed twice.
It is very easily reachable from Priština.

Monastery Gracanica is an enchanting destination that left me awestruck from the moment I arrived. Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Serbia, this historic monastery is a true testament to architectural grandeur and spiritual significance. I cannot recommend it enough, and it deserves every bit of the five-star rating.
The monastery's exterior is a sight to behold, with its intricate frescoes and remarkable Byzantine style. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are simply breathtaking. As I stepped inside, a profound sense of peace washed over me. The interior is adorned with remarkable paintings and ornate decor, transporting visitors to another era.
The tranquility that permeates every corner of Monastery Gracanica is indescribable. The beautifully maintained gardens provide a peaceful sanctuary where visitors can reflect and find solace amidst nature's beauty. Whether you're seeking spiritual enlightenment or simply a break from the bustling world, this place offers an oasis of serenity.
During my visit, the monastery staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, offering insights into the rich history and cultural significance of the site. Their passion and dedication were evident, adding an extra layer of appreciation to the experience. I was also fortunate enough to witness a divine chant by the resident monks, an ethereal experience that I will cherish forever.
Monastery Gracanica is not just a religious site but also an important cultural heritage that should be preserved and celebrated. It serves as a living testament to the region's history and its enduring faith. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking a moment of tranquility, a visit to this monastery is an absolute must.
I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to visit Monastery Gracanica. It is a place that touched my soul and left an indelible mark on my heart. If you find yourself in Kosovo, make sure to prioritize a visit to this remarkable destination. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

The Gračanica Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Kosovo Serbia. It was built by the Serbian king Stefan Milutin in 1321 on the ruins of a 6th-century basilica. The monastery was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1990, and on 13 July 2006. it was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List under the name of Medieval Monuments in Kosovo Serbia as an extension of the Visoki Dečani site which was overall placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger.
The Gračanica Monastery is one of King Milutin's last monumental endowments. The monastery is located in Gračanica, a Serbian enclave in the close vicinity of Lipljan, the old residence of Eparchy Lipljan.
Gračanica was constructed on the ruins of an older 13th-century church of the Holy Virgin, which itself was built on the ruins of a 6th-century early Christian three-naved basilica. It was located in the centre of the Eparchy of Lipljan. Stefan Milutin's ktetor comment are written on the southern wall, including "I have seen the ruins and the decay of the Holy Virgin's temple of Gračanica, the bishopric of Lipljan, so I have built it from the ground and painted and decorated it both from inside and outside". In 1346, when the Serbian Archbishopric was raised to the rank of Patriarchate, the bishop of Lipljan was granted the honorary title of metropolitan bishop, and since that time they were called metropolitans of Lipljan or Gračanica.
Of the former monastic compound, only the church has survived. The narthex and the tower were added a few decades later, in order to protect the frescoes on the west facade. The narthex was heavily damaged by the Ottomans several times between 1379–1383, when the tower was burned and a fire devoured a rich collection of manuscripts and other precious objects. The narthex was reconstructed in 1383. Again, Gračanica suffered damages at the time of the Battle of Kosovo (1389).
During Ottoman rule Gračanica became an important cultural center. In the time of Metropolitan Nikanor (1528–1555) several icons were painted on the altarpiece. Also, because of the printing press, Nikanor obtained numerous service books and objects for monastic use. The royal doors were commissioned in 1564 by Metropolitan Dionisije, whose death is represented on a fresco in the narthex. Major restoration took place through efforts of Patriarch Makarije Sokolović. All the openings on the external narthex were walled up and new frescoes were completed in 1570. Thanks to Patriarch Pajsije, the church got its leaden roofing, and in 1620 the large cross with crucifix was made on the iconostasis. The monastery was exposed to new damages toward the end of the 17th century, in the Great Turkish War, after the second siege of Vienna - in which the Serbs took part on the Christian side. Turks removed the leaden cross and pulled out the floor tiles, together with the treasure hidden in the church by Patriarch Arsenije III.
After the World War II it was renewed by nuns and has been serving as a convent since. Today there are 24 sisters in the monastery who are active in icon painting, agriculture, sewing and other monastic obediences.
In 1999 the monastery was bombed twice by NATO airplanes. After the Kosovo War (1998–99), Bishop of Raška and Prizren Artemije Radosavljević transferred his official seat to this monastery from Prizren and since then the monastery has become not only the most important spiritual but also the national and political center of the Serb community in Kosovo.
The monastery was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1990, and on 13 July 2006 it was placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List under the name of Medieval Monuments in Kosovo as an extension of the Visoki Dečani site which was overall placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger.

Incredibly well preserved, great history and great views. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a tourist trap on the way up. I love castles. This one is only a short walk from town, through the awesome bazaar.
The castle has been rebuilt into a museum, it didn’t work that well for me. Not like the castles of old but still worthwhile visiting for the spectacular views of the mountains and countryside.

Even though it doesn’t say, make sure you explore the grounds, that’s where the real treasure is.

Really beautiful original and traditional place of mountains, the castle, and of the bazaar. Museum quite disappointing, a place with so much rich history and traditions but so little information and display. It's a bit of steep and rocky walking, definitely not for high heels. Cars can drive up to the top of the castle where there is a dormitory and restaurant a limited place . Otherwise, it is an all lovely and enjoyable trip.

Not worth it if you like castles, as I do. There's only an old tower in quite a bad state. And then a very ugly new one with the museum, that I didn't visit. The city itself is even uglier and there is construction everywhere, which is good for the locals, but not for visitors. Construction trucks use most of the already narrow road.

The place is free to visit, in renovation and with an awesome view towards the city. Right before the entry there are lot of coffees and a bazaar ("charshiya") with all kinds of items. Bring cash though, they wouldn't serve me coffee because I wanted to pay by card. More than anything the view and mountains behind the castle are more impressive than the castle itself. It's a really small one. A mosque is being built next to the turkish baths. It'll probably be better in a few years. Traffic is horrible. As far as I understand a sat/sun visit may take x5 time because of inability to leave.

Highly recommend to anyone who wants to know more of our history. Also most of the things at the museum are translated to English,so its easier for everyone to catch up.

Lots of information and history on the national hero of Albania, you will get a great view of the town as well.
Definitely worth your time. About 30-45min full visit. Most signs are translated in English

This is pretty good - organized and thorough. It will take a couple of hours to really get the most out of it, and if you're as uninformed about Skanderbeg as I was then you'll find a lot of pleasure in learning about this whole fluid period of central European history. I found it really useful to have Google Translate on permanent call for the Albanian and Latin.

I loved visiting this museum! It's situated in the main Citadel and its main focus is the national hero of Albania, Skanderbeg.
There are also artifacts from ancient Illyrians, as well as many historical writings, drawings, maps, icons... The exposition is very well structured and everything is translated to English.
The entry fee is 500 lek for tourists, which I find very reasonable, especially considering what you'll get to see.

A must see for anyone visiting Albania. About a half hour drive from the outskirts of the capital. A pleasant drive into the mountains. Great artifacts dating back to the 1400’s. €5 cover charge for adults and children are free. Close by are the souvenir shops in the cobblestone bazaar.

I took my bags all the way up here, and I’m very glad I did. Inspiring stories of Skanderbeg who is an absolute hero of Albania. The museum itself is beautiful and surrounded by beauty. Well worth the 5 euros and would be a shame to skip.

A wonderful place! Must-visit site the moment you enter Albania, if you visit it for the first time and a return-to place for the ones who have visited it before. Full of history, it offers the best window into Albania's history

Very interesting museum!
For everyone who enjoys to hear and see some history ,you don’t have to miss it.
The ticket was 500 lek for adults and for groups is reduced.
The staff was very nice and courteous.

Great museum, an excellent concept, simply a must-see when visiting the area. You get to understand the history of the country through the story of the life of George Castrioty.

The best way to know everything about the Albanian national hero.
The building itself has an interesting story as it was built by the communist leader's daughter in the eighties and the way it looks shows it.
There are few original pieces as most Albanian art is in foreign museums but the reproductions are good enough to explain the history.

A bit pricey compare to other museums in Albania but totally worth it. The entrance to thr castle is free anyway, sonit is worth to get inside the castle to admire the art and history of Albania hero: Giorgio Skanderbeg.

Beautiful place. Not expected from the drive up to it. Stunning views from the exterior of the castle. The museum has some wonderful artefacts. It's worth going with a guide to have everything explained to you. The bazaar is worth a visit. We found the people to be extremely polite and not overly pushy. Well worth a visit. Ladies, don't use the loos in the Museum, find a cafe instead.

Small but interesting museum, unfortunately only a small portion of the information is translated to English, so I didn't learn much. Still recommend it, considering it's not that expensive (I think it was around 5€). And the view when you get to the top is quite nice.

Skanderberg was Albania's most important leader. It's absolutely vital to get to know the history of this historical figure, so It's visiting this museum should be on your bucket list. Pity the museum is not interactive though....
Long Beach is a vast expanse of shoreline, dotted with numerous dining options and schools for kitesurfing. The beach's sand is colored brown, with some volcanic grains intermingled. The sea gradually slopes away from the shore, stretching hundreds of meters outwards, providing a safe environment for children to swim. This beach is famous for its size and beauty and considered the best in Montenegro by many visitors.
Sandy, wide and spacy. Sand in dusty and dark.

A beautiful sand beach, the water is clean. Probably one of the best places in Montenegro. The beach is not the best for city people though, cause there isn't music playing around and there are 1-2 caffes. Amazing beach though!

Long sandy beach. Beautiful sea, just a perfect and definitely best beach in whole Montenegro. Amazing place.

Very beautiful beach.
Expect it to be windy, not so calm - this is why I love it even more as it can be very fun!
I recommend you get one of the all inclusive packages with one of the hotels/resorts as the prices can be quite high if you’re staying for a longer time.

Super! Huge, clean, and safe swimming. You'll need a car to find your favourite spot.

This review is for the area near Dormicium. Nature and the beach are great. What sucks are the access roads (which suck everywhere in Montenegro except the only highway) and prices.

Clean and nice beach, very comfortable for kids to get in and out from the sea. Beach bar was a bit more expensive as expected, but also fine. Showers need to be replaced.

What I loved the most - there is no one even seen to the horizon in winter. You can just stay there alone with yourself and cry, or laugh or whatever you want lol

Nice beach, the sand is darker but still good for walking and swimming

Hallo. I was today at the long beach for a walk and to swim and take a look for the kite surfing school. What I found was a shock. A beach full of trash and an accumulation of plastic garbage. I found pieces of sofa, shoes, a syringe from a hospital, a gasoline can, tons of plastic garbage. For 13 km. It was disgusting!!!!!

Great beach, very clean and spacious..and veeeery long one)) the color of sand is brown, some volcanic sand. The sea is not deep so some hundred meters so, it is safe for children.

Old Town Rooms
Lodging
Ancient Ruins
The staff at Old Town Rooms is impressive, and the hotel boasts an excellent seaside location in the historic district. It is highly recommended for a memorable stay. Their restaurant offers delicious seafood dinners and tasty omelettes and coffee for breakfast. Currently, they are renovating all of their rooms, with the completed ones already looking fantastic. Many of the accommodations feature balconies. They have plans to finish renovating all rooms by next year. Overall, Old Town Rooms provides good lodging with friendly hospitality.
Amazing staff! Perfect location looking over the sea in the old town! This is the location to stay in. They have a really nice restaurant where you can have fish for dinner and a great omelette and coffee for breakfast.
They are renovating all the rooms - the rooms that are done are really nice. Many of the rooms have balconys. They told me that they will have all the rooms done next year. Really recommend to stay here.

If you're lucky, you get one of the rooms/studios advertised on booking sites. If you're not, you'll receive a room not worth the price. Yup to you if you wish to take that chance.

(Translated by Google) Very nicely furnished rooms in a maritime style. Great sea view. The house and the associated restaurant are run by a really nice and open-hearted family. We felt welcome at all times and our every wish was fulfilled. We'd love to come back! We are really looking forward to the new rooms, which the boss personally puts the finishing touches to so that they meet his high standards.

(Translated by Google) Tragedy. I am writing to warn you against wasting your holidays. We booked a total of 11 nights and after 2 nights, fortunately, we managed to say goodbye to this beautiful place, as some people describe. Instead of writing, I'm sending a few photos as a warning. Not to mention it's not all bad, the views are amazing. I reported the matter via booking where I booked the place because despite the omnipresent dirt, no one bothered to clean the wonderful shared kitchen for two days (it's a miracle with a washing machine), the TV didn't work, there were ants in the room. this green bottle is the set of cosmetics we had left after arriving. there was supposed to be a welcome drink, but maybe it's good that there wasn't, because I would have run away from there drunk. the room was not cleaned, we spent over 10€ on chemicals to clean the bathroom, there was a lot of black curly hair everywhere. despite this we were asked to pay 100% for 2 nights and 30% to cancel the remaining 9 days. Fortunately, we moved to Albania and the holiday was saved. After we complained, they wanted to give us rooms of a higher standard, but together with the whole family we decided to leave after 2 days.

Tragedia . Pisze aby was przestrzec przed zmarnowaniem sobie wakacji.

(Translated by Google) Absolutely not suitable for older people or people with walking difficulties! Breakfast very poor out of season, room totally shabby. But guests were still trying hard, unfortunately a bit overwhelmed. No change of towels and no cleaning of the accommodation, no longer an insider tip, unfortunately.
