Amazing mosque with beautiful design elements, it was a very enjoyable experience. If you are not dressed appropriately or don't have the right clothes, the mosque will lend you a robe to wear which is very helpful.
Din Dume — Google review
One of the most beautiful mosques in Southeast Asia that I have visited. Brunei has a serene and peaceful atmosphere, which is accentuated when you enter this mosque. The well-maintained lawns, greenery, and overall design of the mosque makes you feel as though you have drifted back in time, into a world that may now exist only in books.
Irrespective of your faith, standing underneath it's vaulted domes and with the beautiful verses of the Quran in Arabic etched all around, you feel both miniscule and at the same time one with all of God's creations.

Beautiful mosque with 24k gold dome. Upon arrival you get some free rental robes to cover the necessary body parts.

The mosque is very beautiful and has a unique architecture. The tomb is made of real gold. It's a free entrance and there will be a rob provided to cover yourself before entering the mosque. It is best if you go in the morning as there will be less people and by 3-4pm the mosque will be closed for tourists.

Quick stop for a photo op with our tour excursion! As beautiful as it looks outside, I'm sure the interior would be just as beautiful. Not much time to see the mosque, but the pictures speak of volumes!

Beautiful mosque in Brunei. Worth visiting for non Muslims. They give you a cloak with a hood to wear to cover your arms and legs. He said it was up to us if we wanted to put the hood up. I thought that was nice of the gentleman at the front desk to say. It's a lovely decorated place of worship.
You leave your shoes outside and go barefoot. It is free to enter, you complete your details in a book at the front.

Went for Maghrib and Isha Salah. The architecture, design, and just quality of this place is mind-blowing. I have been to many Masajid. Not many others have given me that 'wow' feeling when I opened the doors to the main hall. How can I describe it best, It looks a bit like the palace in Aladdin.
Just beautiful. Mashallah.
Mannan Mukadam — Google review
Architecturally beautiful building, the interior and surrounding gardens are extremely well maintained. A long coat will be provided for the ladies and shoes are to be removed prior to entry. Well worth your time.
The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Brunei is a stunning 20th-century structure built on a lagoon. The mosque boasts marble minarets, lush grounds, and a gold dome that beautifully complement the white and gold color scheme of its design. Visitors can enjoy peaceful prayer at this centrally-located mosque in Bandar Sri Begawan while surrounded by friendly locals who are happy to answer any questions about the facility.
Very beautiful to see! Can't go far inside but if you go during visiting hours you can see a bit. There are guides there also to answer your questions. Just take your shoes off first and then you'll have to wear a black robe that they give you. Overall, definitely worth seeing if you're in Brunei.

This magnificent mosque sits at the very heart of the capital city and the country's Islamic faith.
Built in 1958 and named after the 28th Sultan Of Brunei, it is one of the most impressive mosques in South-East Asia.
Set amid its own lagoon, the mosque seems to be floating, surrounded by lush greenery and floral gardens, while its glittering dome, covered in real gold, soars above the skyline.
Featuring luminous stained glass windows, floors of gleaming Italian marble, walls of Shanghai granite, chandeliers from Britain and Carpets from Saudi Arabia, the mosque brings together the world's best materials in a tour de force of architectural beauty and spiritual ambience.
A marble bridge across the lagoon brings you to a replica of a 16th century Royal Barge, which used to host religious ceremonies, like Quran reading competitions.
At night, the mosque is illuminated, making it a vision to be seen.
Opening Hours :
Sun-Wed, 8am until 5:30pm,
EXCEPT at Prayer times
Closed : Thurs-Fri
Shoes are to be removed before entering.
Dress appropriately
For Men : No shorts, No Sleeveless (wear long pants)
For Women : No singlets, No shorts, must cover leg (wear long pants)
This mosque is simply gigantic!
Like in 1001 night!!!
Beautiful park, beautiful details, beautiful objects!
The highlight is really a walk here in the night!

Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque (Malay: Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddien, Jawi: مسجد عمر علي سيف الدين) is a mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. It is one of the country's two masjid negara or national mosques (the other Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque), as well as a national landmark. It is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the country and is named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei and the father of the current monarch Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The mosque serves as a symbol of the Islamic faith in Brunei.
The mosque took almost five years to build and cost more than £1 million at that time. The architectural firm involved in the construction was the Malaysia-based Booty Edwards & Partners, whereas the consulting firm was the Singapore-based Steen, Sehested and Partners.
The construction work began on 4 February 1954.The construction uses 1,500 tons of concrete and 700 tons of steel. The lengths of the foundation piles are between 80–120 feet (24–37 m).The mosque was inaugurated on 26 September 1958 in conjunction with the 42nd birthday celebration of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III.
The mosque is influenced by Mughal architecture. It was accounted that the design was first conceptualised by Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III and then developed by the commissioned architect Rudolfo Nolli, an Italian sculptor and decorative stonework contractor.
The size of the mosque is about 225 by 86 feet (69 by 26 m) and can accommodate 3,000 worshippers. It has a maximum height of 52 metres (171 ft). The dome is covered with gold. The floors and columns were built of marble from Italy at a cost of S$200,000. The interior houses a chandelier of 15 feet (4.6 m) in diameter and weighing more than three tonnes; it holds 62 fluorescent tubes. The interior is also lighted by an addition of more than 480 tubes. The floors were covered with Axminster carpets, handmade from Belgium and Saudi Arabia. The mosque sits on a 5-acre (2.0 ha) site and almost surrounded by a man-made lagoon. In the middle of the lagoon sits the Mahligai, an artificial barge in which the design is meant to resemble a ship of Sultan Bolkiah, a Sultan of Brunei who reigned in the 16th century. It was inaugurated on 19 December 1967 in conjunction with the 1,400th anniversary of Nuzul Al-Quran, a holiday in the Islamic calendar which commemorates the revelation of the first verses of the Qur'an. Built at a cost of B$500,000 at that time, the barge was intended to be a permanent venue for various national Islamic religious events.

Considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Asia Pacific. It’s an icon of Brunei and well worth visiting. You can enter to view the interior at certain hours of the day (check beforehand). You’ll be given robes to wear at the entrance. Otherwise, you can also walk around the grounds, which were open till 10pm when I went on a Friday. Such a beautiful and tranquil place nestled in the city.

The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is one of the most iconic landmarks in Brunei and a popular tourist attraction. It's located in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan and was built in 1958 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III's reign.
The mosque's stunning architecture combines both traditional Malay and modern Islamic styles, with its gleaming golden dome, marble minarets, and serene lagoon. Visitors are allowed to enter the mosque during non-prayer times and can marvel at the intricate details of the interior, such as the ornate chandeliers and exquisite stained glass windows.
Surrounded by lush gardens and a tranquil lagoon, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque offers a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and architecture.

Breathtaking place, nice architecture. The most iconic icon of Bandar Seri Begawan (even whole Brunei). Worth to visit anyway.
Yusa Jy Laksana — Google review
I visited this mosque during my trip in Brunei and let me just tell you it is definitely an incredible place to visit. They have an area inside of the mosque for non-Muslims and you can hang out there for as long as you'd like. You can also borrow clothing in the front to cover up your arm shoulders and hair if you are a woman or if you're a man covered in tattoos like myself. Inside the mask is extremely beautiful but I also recommend visiting the outside where there is a boat and a Laguna but you be careful because there are crocodiles in this water as we happen to see one ourselves so please don't stick your hand inside of the water unless you really don't care about your hand. All in all this is definitely a place that you must visit went in the city of Bandar Seri Begawan.

Kampong Ayer is a noteworthy customary settlement located in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city of Brunei. This locality comprises clusters of traditional houses, educational institutions and mosques constructed on stilts over the Brunei River in close proximity to the center of the city.
The Royal Regalia Museum in Brunei is a magnificent museum showcasing the history and culture of the country. Upon arrival, visitors must register at reception where they will be given a key for a locker to store their bags and cameras. The admission to the museum is free of charge.
A must visit place in Bandar Seri Begawan. Must remove shoes before entering. Lockers are provided upon entry. A nice way to spend an afternoon. An hour is not enough to explore the exhibits. Gives you a brief idea about the sultan's royal life and his coronation. Taking photograph is not allowed on some gallery due to security reasons. Very nice and helpful staffs.

Was very neat to visit and learn about the history of the Sultan there. You could also see gifts from ambassadors of many countries. There were barely any people so very easy to visit. And no fee. Just take your shoes off before and put your bag in a locker. Pictures are allowed in the main area but not inside.

Previously an aquarium, the building now hosts artifacts that tell the history of Brunei and also gifts from other countries. Before entering, you need to remove your shoes and place them on the shoe rack. You will also need to keep your bag in a locker. A key will be provided when purchasing tickets. The gifts are very fascinating and showcase each country's specialties and their relationship with Brunei.

It's like a super huge gallery of the personal collection of the sultan with his introduction, pictures and quotes. Entry is free, stuffs are fascinating. Just a few visitors, and even less foreigners. The staff must be very happy working there as they laughed all afternoon very loudly, which was a bit disturbing.

The museum of the King of Brunei's background. Very well maintained and the details of each compartment are very well explained. There are some parts of the museum where the photos are not allowed to be taken and there will be a guard to monitor. So please be aware and mindful.

Note that the museum is closed on Friday. Before entering the main door you have to remove your shoes and then head up to get tickets ($5) foreigners. They will provide you with a locker as only cells are allowed. The museum is bigger than I expected and portraits the life of the sultan and Brunei. Very interesting! Highly recommended
Virginia L — Google review
Huge Museum with many of the gifts to the Sultan, weapons and clothes. Also two very impressive state carriages used at different ceremonies are on display.
The entrance is free. Shoes must be left outside - shoe-shelves are available. Proper attire is essential to enter. Cameras and mobile phones must be left by the entrance. locker-boxes and coat/bag check are also available.
There is also a small gift-shop.
The staff of the museum is more or less friendly.
The museum is sort of a shrine for the emperor and his family. The wealth and the number of objects on display are impressive.
Its pretty cold (AC) inside - you may want to bring a jacket or light sweater.
Rodya Troyke — Google review
A massive collection that is worth checking out for only B$5. It gives you insight into the current sultan's rise to power with a wide array of artifacts and gifts received from foreign and domestic leaders ranging from his 1967 coronation to today. Though I truly loved that East Timor was like "here's a stuffed animal and a bag of coffee." LOL

This is the most famous museum of Brunei I have read many reviews saying the museum is very small and only takes 1 hour to visit. However not so, the museum has a lot of articles about the king, the palace and the history of this country, if you really enjoy reading you will know a lot more about this country. It took me 3 hours trying to read it all but couldn't make it in time and I really want to come back here.

Nice museum with an eclectic collection of presents to the Sultan of Brunei, from heads of states, ministers and others representatives. You have to take off your shoes before entering and the entrance fee for foreigners is $5. Unfortunately some sections have such a cold floor that I couldn't visit them even with socks. So take sockets, maybe an extra pair. And you need to lock any bags in the lockers, provided for free. Pictures can be taken, but not video.

Visiting this very small, but very rich country and seeing this museum shows you how much wealth they have. A must visit and see the lives of the Sultans past and present! You will not be disappointed.

Spend some time to learn of Brunei's history, specifically Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. Tips: Bruneian enter free, foreigners 5 Dollars for adults and 3 dollars for children. No camera or video, only phones allowed. You have to leave your belongings in the lockers at the entrance. Photos using your phones are allowed except in 2 areas, and videos are absolutely prohibited. Pro tip: use the panorama feature in your phone.
Khairool Adzelan Aman — Google review
Our taxi driver suggested visiting the museum, so he took us there. You have to leave your shoes outside on a shelf, wear socks if you don't want to walk barefoot. It was 5 Brunei dollars each. They give you a key to a locker to put your bag in and return the key when you are leaving.
You are allowed to take photos, but no videos. The section with the replica of the throne no photos allowed, it is guarded by army officers.
It is a fascinating insight to the Sultans life and his years studying at Sandhurst Military Academy up in the UK and travelling around the world.
There are lots of gifts given to him by other countries which are fascinating.
The museum is very clean, worth a visit. It wasn't busy when we went, there is a car park opposite if you are driving, not expensive to park.

A must visit place if you're coming to Brunei. I went to this place via the Freme Team. The journey to the park is via boat ride which is really incredible. There will be a little hiking needed so be ready to bring water to keep yourself hydrated. The canopy walk and the suspension bridge is really awesome. There will be 4 huts for the pit stop. Overall, the best experience you can have.

If you ever visit Brunei. This is a place you need to be to have a complete adventure.
You need not be fit to do the hike, but you’ll definitely need to overcome your fear of height when you climb the canopy walk. The longboat ride into the park is rather unique experience and the river tubing downstream is pretty interesting too!
You need to use a local tour agency to get to the park, I would recommend AZ Back to Nature agency. The journey from the city is about 1.5 hours.

Stunning! Beautiful scenery. Was very surprised that you can find such a peaceful and pristine jungle so close to an international airport (1h15 drive).
The longboat ride and canopy walk were a very unique and enjoyable experience. Booked tour via Borneoguide and everything was smooth

No visit to Brunei is complete without a visit to this national park. I booked a day trip via the tour agency called Freme and everything was seamless from start to finish. View the beautiful vast rainforest from the canopy walk towers; you’ll be in awe! But you will need some level of physical fitness, as there are 700-800 steps to climb to reach the canopy walk, and then you’d have to climb up 42 metres of scaffolding before you are rewarded with awesome views. You can book a day tour via Freme / BorneoGuide. They’ll also take you to visit some waterfalls. My day trip costed me 155 BND under Freme at time of writing.

A very beautiful place, well worth visiting if you are staying in Brunei.
I did a tour with Borneo Guide which took me on a boat to Sumbaling Eco Village, where I was served an array of delicious food & refreshments, before taking another boat up river to climb up in to the rainforest & climb the viewing platform, high up in The tree canopies.
Sumbaling Eco Village is a beautiful spot on the river where you can stay in huts.
The hosts were fabulous, as was my tour guide Kenny.

Steeped in history, a good place to visit when in Labuan, to remind us of the sacrifices of the men and women who laid their lives down for our freedom. This is Malaysia's largest war cemetery. It's a hive of activity here during Remembrance Day memorial service every November.

Wunderbar Ort♥.. Wonderful place to visit in Labuan, give our respect to our WW2 heroes.
Have a small a small cave simulate the coal mining activity. The chimney and the mini garden is beautiful.

Small museum that tells the story of the mine, the work and the lives of the miners. there is very little left but the historical reconstruction is worth at least a visit. The highlight is "The Chimney". Free entrance.

Not bad. Expected to have a hike but it'd be good for a beginner. Not too long, we finished whole track in 20 minutes (entering the hutan).

Small museum, free, informative, worth visiting to learn about the history of coal mining in Labuan - also the Labuan Museum in downtown Victoria. Helpful friendly staff, supplied free mineral water as the drink-dispensing machine was not working. Good safe parking (security guard on duty)

Iconic historical building during coal mining era in Labuan. Must visit place when come to Labuan. Entry and parking space are free. Clean, tidy and well maintained surrounding area, good for taking photo or just walking around.

The museum showcases the heritage of Labuan as coal mining hub. Based on the finding by the historian, the chimney is believed to be symbolic with no function relating to coal mining operations. Admission is free, the parking too!

Nice place. Can go hike the secret-but-not-so-secret chimney trail. Go in and park here. You can find a spot to go hiking. It'll be a loop trail. Hopefully you can follow some of my pics to know which are the landmarks so that you won't get lost. You'll have GPS here so I don't believe you will. Also locals are friendly. Do ask if you get lost. Hope that helps.
Took a lot of pics. Have tram to go around the place which operates every one hr(i assume?). We went there at 11.40am, the person at counter said we missed the tram so we waited for the next one at 12.30pm. it was a great experience. Recommend to go there around oct for orchids.

Very nice place to visit! A bit far from Kota Kinabalu, around 3 hrs drive, but worth it! Best time to go between Mar to Oct. Many blooming plants, orchids, bougainvilleas and much more. Can stay overnight, but a lot of mosquitoes! Better take guiding tour to hear about flora.

Fantastic park. Gorgeous gardens. Great for families to spend a few hours.
Despite arriving in the middle of a heat wave and a 1 month drought, the park offers lots of shady areas. The varieties of gardens and blossoms provide lots of surprises as we walked each path.
This park is the beating heart of Tenom, a lovely little town nestled near the Crocker Range

Large and spacious area, not crowded. Kids can run about and they loved the tram ride that brought us to the further away Model Gardens and Orchid Centre. They also liked crossing the 3 bridges at Camping Island.

Went there during school holiday and there was an event - flora festival. Entrance for family of 2 adults and 2 children at rm20. They do provide tram service. No need to wait longer as the tram run continously. The place so huge. They should provide bicycle for rental so that after visiting with tram, visitor can cycling to explore the park.

It was a winding road to get here.
We arrived at noon which was really hot, so be sure to ware floppy hat ya. And have your water available.
We took a walk going around the huge area, where there's lakes, cycling track, train track, lots of resting huts, watch tower and various plants arboretum - from the smallest to the biggest, edible to the none edible, flowers and fruiting.
At the end of our visit we took the train ride to get back to the starting point 😀

Other than the orkids highlighted by other viewers, we enjoyed the cactus and the ‘carnivorous’ plants. The latter were kept in 2 areas: outdoor and in an air-conditional enclosure. We saw many types of nepenthes, and some very small ones too.

The Evolution Garden is a much better place to learn about the history of plants than in any classrooms. This garden exhibits how the plants evolve from primitive times to modern era. It is good to know that not only humans evolve, but plants do too. A stroll through this garden will bring one back in time to 3.5 billion years ago, where model stromatolites believed to be one of the longest living forms of live on this planet are on exhibit. Stromatolites are sedimentary structure produced by blue-green algae, the ancestors of all land plants.

5 islands compose this preserve with white-sand beaches for swimming, snorkeling & boating.
Great place to visit islands and these islands just located near to town. Great way to feel the breeze and nature scene. Recommended.
Chang Tun Kuet — Google review
Has lots of potential to be a wonderful spot, with the 5 different islands, but sadly suffers from low upkeep.
The waters are blue and clear (for now), but filled with trash. The islands where the tourists are dropped off are in desperate need of clean toilets and amenities. The corals are all dead, so absolutely no point going for a dive.
The local tourism authorities should do better!

During our trip, we didn’t have to wake up early since it's not peak seasons. We have to stay in a certain island for a limited time so we could have time to explore the nearest island. There are plenty things to do for each places but we can’t do it all. Maybe if you stay overnight then yes. The place was clean and no garbage, they had a designated place where you can put your trash (of course if there's a lot of stupid people then obviously garbage-strewn.) All I want to say, this place is the best.

Nice spot with beautiful view on the bay and the islands unfortunately the place and the beach is way too dirty Can't swim a meter without being cover by plastic waste Really sad to see a so beautiful environment damaged by the incivilities

Went to two islands: Sapi and Manukan. Sapi is small and there wasn’t a lot of fishes. Manukan has more fishes for snorkellers. The boat wouldn’t allow us to take the life jackets so we had to rent at the island for 10 MYR each.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park consists of 5 islands, Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sapi, each with their individual speciality. We visited Manukan, the second largest and most developed one with resorts and restaurants. It has area for snorkeling even though not as nice as Sapi and Mamutik but the sea water is still crystal clear. There is monitor lizard wandering around the island looking for leftover food, they wont attack human unless they are provoked.

Beautiful islands with tropical fishes swimming close to shore, just beware of sea urchins on the sea bed while swimming and sand flies biting when hanging out on the beaches, use insect repellent. You may see monitor lizard walking around , just be aware of them roaming around on the islands

Superb well maintained natural park with clean white sand beaches, lush forrest and excellent coral and crystal clear waters for snorkelling and scuba diving. Visited in January 2004 on a scuba diving trip with Boreno Divers
Manukan Island, located in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, boasts stunning beaches, opportunities for snorkeling and hiking, and a resort. Visitors can easily access the island by heading to the counter during operating hours which runs from 8am to 6pm. A trip package including visits to three islands along with safety vests and jetty fees costs RM60. It is recommended that visitors bring along mats for picnicking and their own food.
Went here end of march, if you planning to visit islands you can just go to the counter. The operating hours start from 8am-6pm. Last trip will be at 4pm. Visiting 3 island + safety vest + jetty fee cost RM60. Dont forget to bring mat for picnic & foodies as well. If you planning to do activities, you can look up agent at facebook or just go to the counter for activities, price will be expensive tho but worth it. Dont forget you hat & sunscreen. Be sure not to go during payday & holiday, the island will be really crowded.

It’s a nice place for a city break but nothing more. When I got to the jetty terminal at 1.30 pm, there were no more boats. Someone approached me and I chartered a private boat for 200 myr both ways (I didn’t try to bargain)
I visited off season, in the weekday and during ramadan so very few people were here. I got the beach basically to myself. There are facilities here. Toilets, restaurants, lifeguards, resorts to stay overnight. I didn’t try the snorkeling.
I can still hear the noise of boat motors, there’s a view of kota Kinabalu city from here.

a very beautiful island. a lot of places to snorkel. recommended to go during non-peak season to avoid a crowded snorkeling space. very clear water a lot of fishes. we saw sharks too chasing after little fishes. the island also has clean toilets and hotels. the sea water here is warm and cosy. can spend all day with sunscreen on.
Nahnee Awesome — Google review
One of the nearest islands to the city. However this island is very popular among locals so it is incredibly crowded during public holidays and weekends. With the local crowds, you can also expect the snorkeling water to be murky as there are many people walking on the sand and wearing their normal clothes into the water.
Beware of sea urchins while snorkeling as you don’t want the injured by the spines.
You can see many small fishes and the striped ones near the jetty, but don’t be fooled by that as there won’t be as many at the snorkeling areas. Corals are mostly dead.
You can also spot monitor lizards roaming around which is quite cool.
There is a proper toilet area with shower cubicles (with hook on door to store stuff) for women but outdoor shower for men.
All in all a very developed island but I wouldn’t return for snorkeling.

Plastic and rubbish everywhere. The beaches are dirty too. There is not even a basic water supply system or waste management system. Nature is damaged here. Corruption and the could not care less attitude of the authorities caused irreversible damage to a pristine ecosystem.

All these pictures were taken during last week of April 2023 and it was one day island hopping (covering Manukan Island and Sapi Island).
What is the best thing about Manukan Island is; apart from beach activities such as swimming and snorkeling, you can do jungle trekking.
Crystal clear is the best word to describe the beach.

I chose Pulau Manukan & Sapi for the island hopping & it was one of the best decisions I’ve made during my KK trip. Perfect activity for those thrillseekers who are into watersports, snorkeling or even those who just want to unwind, picnic & have a healing getaway while enjoying the phenomenal views of the beach & depending on your luck, clear blue skies & sunny weather that brings out the bright turquoise colour of the sea water. Based on the other reviews, it seems like majority prefers Pulau Sapi over Manukan but from my experience, I enjoyed Manukan more as the beaches were very clean & there were no rubbish to be seen so I have no idea where these reviewers are seeing pollution. Maybe things have changed ever since. While the water is not as clear as Sapi, the beaches are cleaner & the island is a lot bigger with more amenities as compared to Sapi & personally, I think the scenery in Manukan are more breathtaking than Sapi. From the island, you can also see the magnificent KK landscape with the mountains in the back. I would definitely recommend including this island if you’rs thinking of island hopping from KK.
The marine park in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia is home to Sapi, Manukan, and Mamutik islands. These small islands are only a 30-minute journey by speedboat from Jesselton point. The clear waters surrounding the islands provide abundant fish life and shaded picnic spots for visitors to enjoy. Many tourists come here for snorkeling, diving, and swimming opportunities. Sapi island has better coral than the others and offers great views of fish while snorkeling.
Went to Sapi and Manukan islands in May 2022. Sapi is really nice, cleaner and the coral is better and you get to see some fish while snorkeling.
Took a boat from Star Marina (ShangriLa jetty), I paid around 130rm for the transport and rental of mask, life jacket and towels for two people. Boats run every hour here.
Abdullah AlThawr — Google review
I did a research before going to these islands. When you go to Kota Kinabalu you can just ride a grab car or maxim to the Jesselton point which is the hop off area to these islands. These islands by the way are part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park if I’m not mistaken.
The ticketing area is inside the jesselton point. Booths are already lined up and it’s up to you who to choose to buy boat tickets from. I chose the booth 10 and they offer just the boat rides and add ons like parasailing, walking underwater etc. i chose 2 islands to visit, The Mamutik and Manukan. You also rent the life vest and the snorkeling devices that is not included in your ticket. They automatically chose the island destination for me (maybe because mamutik and Manukan is already near each other). Buying tickets are not hassle as it seems. There is also no waiting time coz the boats arrive every 5-10 minutes i think. There is also a fee you pay upon entering the island which is separate from the ticket you bought from the Jesselton point which is a bit expensive if you’re a tourist and not malaysian.
Manukan island is a bit crowded for me but the beach and the island is beautiful. White sand and beautiful walkway bridge.
Mamutik island is smaller compared to manukan island but for me this is more beautiful than the manukan. The white sand is finer compared to Manukan and a less crowded. I also prefer snorkeling here than the Manukan island because there is a lot more fish here and you can already see lots of beautiful corals even in shallow area of the beach.
There are places to eat in each island I have never tried but I think it’s a bit expensive. There are also a lot in the Jesselton point to eat.
Brix Calpo — Google review
The island was nice, clean, and clear water. They have a restaurant and a local shop to buy food and drinks. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed 1 hour early the day I went to the island. The beach area is a bit smaller than the surrounding islands. You can snorkel here and rent a clear bottom kayak if you want. There are lots of trees here to get some shade if it's sunny out. There is also a small covered roof at the jetty, for waiting for your boat to pick you up. Island was a bit busy when I was there.

This is a small island which takes about 30 minutes journey for a speedboat to travel from a Jesselton point. Very clean water. Beautiful seawater. Can see the base and the fish just swimming around. Many tourists come for snorkeling, diving and swimming. They spend hours here enjoying themselves in water. Some families cone here for picnic.

Smallish beach, more crowded than Mamutik. But has a beautiful seascape for picture taking. Many tourists come here in tour groups for snorkelling and have catered lunch on the island. Showers are abit of walk from the beach.

Pretty island - but too restrictive on areas you can swim in and you’re required to wear a life jacket at all times - very overpriced to enter for what it is too, with little to no snorkelling views.
If you have time to kill the islands are nice but not the best.
(Malaysia really hasn’t done tourism right compared to countries like Thailand)

Island hopping in Sabah. I thought these islands were more or less the same so I just ticketed two of them.
Then I found out they are not the same. The sands, the water and layout of trees give you a veru different feeling. Just like meeting friends from different walks of of life. Each of them has their own character indeed.

I don't know where the money from the entrance fee goes, but certainly not in maintenance and protection of the island. Only the very first touristy Part is clean - if you take a walk across the island you'll see an abundance of garbage. Shameful.

Sapi Island is badly maintained. It's very dirty and the jetty is so small and fragile. The money collected from tourists surely would have been plundered. There is no waste management system here. Plastic and rubbish everywhere. Pathetic. This is the result of inefficiency and corruption.

Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is a small zoo in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah that houses a variety of animals like tigers, monkeys, pygmy elephants and deer. It is often used as an attraction for visitors to experience a wildlife adventure and it is home to experts from all over the world who can answer any questions you might have about the animals.
Despite the mixed reviews my family and I decided to visit this place on our trip to Kota Kinabalu. It was indeed a good decision. Well kept place with affordable entrance fee. Entertaining animal show from the staff for children and adults. The show starts at 11.15am and takes around 30 minutes or so. My niece enjoying her time watching Borneo Elephant as elephants are her favorite animal. We spent around 3 hours there covering the place slowly. It was a nice and pleasant experience. Recommended place to go with children if u happened to be in the area

Support more and every cents really meaningful.

- zoo keepers are very friendly. Will explain about the animals. Also they let you feed the animals (elephants and bears).
- bird show was fun. At 11:15am / 3:30pm daily.
- takes about 1.5 - 2hours for the whole park. Can end your visit with the bird show at 11:15am.
Slightly run down, not that many animals. But still an enjoyable day out, especially for kids.
It is quite hot….so bring water and hats.
There are some stalls selling drinks and also outside the park there are 1 or 2 small restaurants.

Although this is our 3rd visit here, my kids still enjoy seeing and appreciating wildlife animals especially the elephants. However, this time there are few spots which are closed like reptiles (snakes, crocs etc) and there were some landslides as well. Hope it will get better next time.

About 20 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu city.
Entrance fee is rm10 for local and rm20 for foreigner.
Please wear shoe with good sole grip as the walkway is slippery due to moss formation.

Some of the animal are nowhere to be seen during our visit.
But the show is fun and informative.

the zoo is poorly maintained and it felt like a ghost town on a Friday morning. Zookeepers? It broke our heart to see animals pacing around, looking listless. some animals live in packs, while the rest are either 1 or 2 in their enclosure 24/7. I would not be surprised if it drove them mad. The Malayan tiger was pacing to and fro while the Sun Bear saw us, stood up and asked for food. The birds in the enclosure looked so miserable too.
If the management has no means to keep this animals, i hope they will at least meet the animals basic needs, or send them away to other countries where there are resources pumped in to support wildlife causes.

A fun day at the wildlife park. The park is well laid out to visit everything and you can easily see all the animals. They have good viewing stations and lots of places to sit and rest. Excellent for taking pictures and videos of the animals. They have food and gift places, local cash only. They also have local music and a grand show to sit and enjoy.

I did not have much expectations before visiting this place, but it turned out better than I expected.
There were not many animals in the park, but I was surprised to see tiger, elephants, orang utan , leopard in healthy condition inside the park.
There were 2 shows , one in the morning and another one in the afternoon. The show was not bad.
Tee Yeu Loon — Google review
The zoo offers a diverse range of wildlife, providing visitors with a chance to see both native and exotic species. However, some areas might benefit from additional enrichment for the animals and renovations of the park. Overall, it's a family-friendly destination with a focus on conservation and awareness. Do bring mosquito repellents and extra clothes (sweaty day) when planning a visit, alongside tickets can be bought on the spot.
Yu Chu Chin — Google review
Visited this zoo this morning and it was ok I guess, foreigners pay twice as much as locals (RM20 vs RM10) the staff was nice and the show was fun but this place desperately needs funding, all the different enclosures and cages where very worn down, and dirty, the water was also dirty and full of algae, most of the animals, (and there wasn’t many) looked quite bored.
I read some reviews that there where no restrooms inside the zoo, but that’s wrong, there are several restrooms available inside, there was also a few stalls that sold drinks and snacks so that’s a plus.
I think this place is good to bring kids so that they can get to see some “wild” animals they might not normally get to see.
But again, this place needs funding, Sabah should invest more in this place to make it more attractive for tourists and and also better for the animals, they desperately need bigger and better enclosures with more stimulation.
If you go here by Grab it’s no problem, the problem is to get back to where ever you came from so plan accordingly.

I quite liked it... The animal show was cute but I suggest coming earlier in the morning before the morning show so that you can go back after the show ends because it gets very hot. If coming in the afternoon, it's better to watch the show first and walk around later... I came with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised... The animals get quite sleepy at midday too so maybe they are more active early in the morning and late afternoon... The staff are quite dedicated to their jobs.

The Kota Kinabalu City Mosque, located within the harbor area of the city, is a majestic place to take photos at sunrise and at night when illuminated and appears to float on the water. It is a working mosque, so worshippers may be coming and going.
Known as ‘A floating mosque’. It is a second main mosque and famous in Kota Kinabalu after State Mosque in Sembulan. The architectural design is based on the Nabawi Mosque, the second holiest site in Islam, in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The dome is blue and gold, inspired by similar Arabic architecture.

It costs RM5 to enter and you have to cover up. However if you don’t enter, you can still take pictures of the mosque from outside. The reflection completes this architectural beauty.

Floating Mosque here has three characteristics.
The first characteristic is the temple located on the beach
The second feature is that it is surrounded by a lake, so you can take pictures of beautiful reflections
Third, due to poor sewage treatment, which is characteristic of underdeveloped countries, the smell of rotten gutter and the struggle with mosquitoes must be fought.

Tourist place. Parking available nearby. Need to wear proper attire, if not, no worry, as they will rent jacket or other covering clothes for you. Take note of Friday Prayer session. There will be lots of cars and visitors. If you are Malaysian, remember to inform them as it's FOC. Else you will have to pay for entrance.

As compare to the Shah Alam blue mosque, this is not as grand n the only selling point is the "floating mosque"... but still need to visit since in kota kinabalu... entrance fee (rm5) to be able to go round only the surrounding, another rm5 if u want to take a look inside n if u r not "properly dress", need to dress up their "properly clothes" at the entrance... once inside, there will be "guide" to inform u, which part u could freely roam around n which part is forbidden entrance...

Beautiful mosque with a picturesque pond around it and beautiful gardens. Inside is so spacious and comfortable and just felt like home right away. The best time to go is a little before maghreb prayer to watch the golden rays of sunset on the water, then pray inside and by the time you leave, all the lights of the mosque are on for the night.

Very disappointed. First mosque I've ever been to that charges an entrance fee, which I refused to pay on principle. Perhaps the profiteers need to read Al-Qoran again before they think they can charge to enter the house of God or even take photos from the carpark. Shame and shame again. Is nothing sacred anymore Malaysia, is everything for sale ? "Malaysia Boleh" ? 😔

The Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, situated in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, is a captivating symbol of architectural elegance and cultural significance. Commonly known as the City Mosque, it stands proudly on the shores of Likas Bay, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
Upon entering the mosque grounds, visitors are greeted by a harmonious blend of Islamic aesthetics and modern design. The mosque's striking white and gold domes, reflecting in the clear waters below, create a picturesque scene that is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
The mosque's interior is equally impressive, featuring intricate calligraphy, beautiful chandeliers, and a serene atmosphere conducive to prayer and reflection. The expansive prayer hall can accommodate a large congregation, and the architectural details add to the spiritual ambiance.
One notable aspect is the mosque's strategic location, allowing a tranquil escape from the urban bustle while providing a sense of serenity and connection to nature. The calm waters surrounding the mosque create a reflective pool, enhancing the overall spiritual experience.
Visitors, regardless of their faith, are welcomed to explore the mosque and its surroundings, fostering cultural understanding and appreciation. The Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu stands as a testament to Sabah's rich cultural diversity and architectural splendor, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists seeking a glimpse into the region's religious and historical heritage.

It is a good place to visit, they offer two options to get in.
One is only go around and the second one is get into the mosque.
I took the second option, when u take this u should dress up with the clothes they had there. It's a good experience.
It is not allowed to get into the place in which they pray. It's only for Muslims.
It's highly recommend to download the taxi app because it's very hard to get one without it

We spent only two nights there, and I regret not staying there from the beginning. The best hotel experience I ever had: the room at Ocean Wing has the best design, and the outdoor daybed and bathtub are amazing!! Rosslyn, Adrian and everyone at the resort were so friendly and helpful! Let me put it this way: if I ever return to Sabah, this hotel will be the main reason.

This was my fifth time staying here. Upgraded my room to sea view and we got the room at the 6th floor. Since it is school holidays and it's the weekend, the resort had full occupancy. Check-in was a little bit slow but we were able to get our room right away. My children enjoyed the Adventure Point, the beach and the pool. Room service for in-room dining was very easy; scan QR code, choose the menu and submit online. The food is yummy! Masks, hand sanitiser, wet wipes are prepared for guests. There are many other activities provided at the resort but we didn't manage to enjoy it all. You should stay here at least for 2 nights to enjoy all of it. Great customer service too.

Did the two hour “Nature’s Symphony” at the Reserve, which was brilliant. Our rangers were excellent; really knowledgeable and friendly. We started by tasting some of the local “stingless bee honey” straight from the hive. We saw lots of native flora and fauna and got to see some stunning views from the top. The hike is a bit challenging at times, so it’s something to consider when booking - you need to be comfortable with steep sections on the way up and down. We stayed for a drink and snack on the beach afterwards, which was lovely (but expensive).

Hotel has all facilities you would need including swimmimg pool, shop selling drinks, snacks & gifts. Hotel offers many activities. at reasonable prices. The hotel has several restaurants, a bar & coffee shop, these are quite expensive based on outside local prices. Breakfast buffet is amazing with lots of choice. Thank you Thim, Dhino, Ezra, and a few others at Rasa Ria Reserve /Discovery centres. To us, They were more than just guides, they did their daily routine of hiking, entertaining and keping all guests happy and satisfied with an one-off unforgettable experience!
They are what I call as serving selflessly with passion. Thim has vast knowledge and good observatory skills, Dhino is a joy and highly experienced with his stories and Ezra with smiles of angel. The hikes were easy and can be done for all ages if you are fit, I promise the best sun rise view if you are lucky, in entire Malaysia. We enjoyed the canopy walk , the archery, the stingless bee tour and wall climbing! Well done guys and keep it up!

The Reserve HQ is very informative with maps, info boards, photos and presentations. We were welcomed by very friendly rangers and then taken on a very low stress hike to the Canopy Walk with several stops to point out some vipers and a 'logodile' 😀 Our guide was Ranger Halim, who was very friendly and full of facts about the flora, fauna and Sabah in general. The view from the canopy is excellent and crossing on the hanging bridge was fun. They have very good bug spray if you need it - it's recommended! Very enjoyable.

The museum is nice you can read a lot about the flowers and even about some other things, the guide was friendly and was really thoughtful to make sure we are careful and safe while we were walking even though the path wasn’t neither dangerous or hard at least for us but still very nice from her, and we were also so lucky to see not only one, but three Rafflesias blooming that day! Had a really good time, I would recommend to everyone who loves nature and flowers to come here, I think the money you pay is nothing to see this unique flower, really amazing! So thankful for this opportunity!

Md Yusran haj — Google review
We went there to see the flower and that’s all we saw, and don’t expect to see the big ones, they don’t have it here.
We were told that the ticket was good for a full day and that there was two trails with rafflesias but after 700m and the first flowers, we got turned around (even if the trail kept going) without the possibility to walk the second trail, which was contrary to what they said before buying the tickets. Also, the “guide” had no knowledge about the forest other than for the flower. At RM60 per person, I would call this a tourist trap.

I am lucky to have a view of "6 petals" of Rafflesia today. It was so rare!!!! So unique!!!!
The guide is very good and can answer all the questions that i asked. Very informative person. Good!
However, u need to pay separately for the tour guide experience. So, I suggest you come in a group to share the fees.
Without a tour guide, you may "sesat".
Just.. i was a bit shocked by the tour (my body almost cant take it, due to health problems).. He/she must mention clearly, how far is the trip@tour@journey to see Rafflesia. Although the road is concrete, it is quite far and slope.

Friendly staff and you get instant reply from them. Do contact them in advance to ensure there's blooming flower. Recommended to go by group because it charged MYR 50 per guide for 5 pax (do note that there will be additional permit charge as well). You could refer Facebook Page "Sabah Forest Department" to get an update of blooming season and the fare.

It was raining when we visit the place. Registration cost rm10 and we are so lucky to get to view a bloom flower on branches.
The lady guide has a deep knowledge of rafflesia as well as the areas around. The way back is so challenging with rain and steep alley.
Thank you for the fruitful journey

Highlight of my trip in December 2023. Initially, I only thought this place is just an information centre on rafflesia, more to gallery and museum like. Upon researching it was not.
I was so happy that there was a rafflesia bloomed during our visit, it was day 3. Do join the tour, very informative and of course you get to see and touch the rafflesia.
If i was not mistaken, the tour guide fee costs RM 50 + RM 5/person

Worth every effort. My journey from Sepanggar to RIC took me on a 1h55m drive with scenic and panoramic view of the mountain range and the villages. Travelling solo after getting the information from their Registry Office informing the bloom. And I was super lucky to witness a rare twin bloom! My Guide Marilyn was polite and fast to show the blooms with stories and information about Rafflesia and its habitat. Joined by Guide Wanisah who was superbly informative with the details of flora and the rainforest medicinal knowledge based in her heritage of Dusun. Super impressed. Both were friendly and accommodating and passionate about their field. Paid about MYR50 for guide fee and MYR10 for entrance fee. Personalised service and had a great chitchat along the way too. Do take your time on each step on both ways as it can be quite slippery. My journey to the blooms was exactly 1000 metres but can be quite tiring for some. As long as you take one step at a time, you'll enjoy the serenity and peace of the rainforest. 100% recommend it. PS: Guide Wanisah was helpful even to recommend to visit Gunung Alab Sub Station to check out the view. Thank you!!

Needs to improve:
- English level of the guides
- Facilities of the Information Centre as toilets and information sharing need to be updated in 2022 style with video and interactive way
- Have a kids approach
- Fix the walkway. All rotten by water.
Positive:
- You go for nature, you get it
- Easy carpark
- Staff very service oriented despite the numbers of limitation
- They collect you number to share then blooming alert

Very good informative guides. They guide you towards the blooming flowers and answer all your questions about raflesia's. Also have a look in the information center, where you can see the diverse spieces and information.
If the weather conditions are bad, due to rain, you also can rent boots at the center.

Great place to see Rafflesia! It’s a bit of a hike through the jungle to get to the flower so be sure to wear proper attires. You can even text them to know if the flowers are in bloom before making your way to Tambunan. The guides are friendly and informative
Worth it if you're into pictures, culture and people. Seeing a lot of people questioning the high entrance fee, I must say that the fees are needed seeing the number of staffs and the relatively good state of the facilities provided. The tour guide definitely explained a few things about the ethnicity in Sabah which I never knew before. The info was definitely worth the price paid and the 3D house pictures + experience was worth it too.

Museum was great experience..lots of art with 3d drawing.. enjoying while taking photos and giving weird looks as well.. 😆
Environment are not crowded since I went on weekdays..
Cool though...
Upside down house was marvelous... Each an every item in that house was real except the foods.. items are are hanging literally on the roof..we are not allowed to take photos.. and walking path are provided (red carpet).
Loving room, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, balcony.. everything are upsidedown..
This house reminds me my hometown back then.. 😟😟
I enjoy as well...
Lastly when coming out of the upsidedown house..you can take pictures with real upsidedown car.. hehe that was nice too..
Bought some hand made craft while exiting.. well we need to support local business..
Parking is not an issue..
Enjoy your day..
Actually this was not part of the plan.. since upsidedown house museum was on the way while we were heading to kundasang.. 😅😅

Visitors need to purchase entrance ticket in order to visit. Two attractions : upside house and 3D section. Choose which attractions to visit.
I did not visit the 3D section.
After passed the entrance, the staff will take a photo of you (with green backdrop)
Visitors are not allow to take photos inside the house. As the staff informed that the "internal design" is patterned.
It is interesting how the whole setup was - every household items are upside down.
Outside the house, there are 3 upside down photo spot : bathroom, store, car shed. There are sample photoshoots to illustrate how visitors can shoot with upside down effect. 👍
The exit path is thru the souvenirs shop and lastly, the counter where the staff will show you your photoshot (remember the earlier photo taken by the staff?). Your image will be superimposed on the attraction as photo background (that's why the green backdrop). You can choose to buy or not.
Overall, a good experience.

We stayed here for 3 nights after 4 nights staying in Sepilok and Kinatangtan. The speed boat transfer from Dragon Pearl Beach resort was a fun start to our stay. Although we didn’t dive, we (family of 4 with kids age 6 and 8) still had plenty to do - snorkelling, kayaking and playing games on the beach etc.
The beach and sea were clean, the staff were happy and friendly and the food was fantastic! So impressed with the delicious food they prepare in a small kitchen with limited electricity. The rooms were clean and tidy and all had beautiful views.
We got lucky and had a bunch of lovely other guests staying at the same time. This place seems to attract people who were are kind and friendly and it was nice for the kids to hang out together.

Beaches are out of this world and the rooms, although basic, were all you’d ever need.

I did a quick 3 day trip which included 3 dives as I didn’t have much time away. Ella organised the airport transfer for me and everything went smoothly. The rooms are basic but so worth the price as the view at sunrise and sunset is just incomparable! The only downside was that it was the draught season and there was water in the rooms only after 5pm and the pressure was quite low. On my last night I didn’t have water at all but I managed to shower in the bathroom where the kitchen was. Not a big problem for me because I genuinely enjoyed the rest of my time relaxing there along with the super nice staff.
This is possibly the only dive hotel I’ve stayed at that actually serves good food!
Dive instructors were super nice and 2 out of 3 of the dive spots we went to had really good visibility and so much to see!

The dive centre is very secluded. They will help to arrange pickup from KK to Kota Belud.
From Kota Belud area, they will send a boat to pick you up. Watch the tide as the beach can be shallow and boat can be grounded.
Overall staying is nice, room is comfy and clean. Please remember to bring power bank and mosquitoes repellent too.
The dive area is undisturbed. Can see good marine life but we come abit late in 2023 so we miss the shark etc.
Will come again in 2024 in Q2.

I REALLY can give you only 1 star.
It was terrible diving experience.
1. The instructor was not passioned and it seems he doesn't want to dive. Just want to finish early. We bought the fun diving course and we dived only 30 minutes 2 times. Sea was general, the diving point was so poor, and the instructor looks like doesn't want to go far. We just dived around Bigfin.
2. Let us come 8:00am. Bigfin was late 30 mins in the morning. And started the diving from 11:30am. What is it?
And the IMPORTANT POINT is, the instructor said only early morning can go to good diving points. What the.. We waited over 2 hrs from very early morning while the instructor was ready. Haha.. And he said it's too late to go to good diving points.
Don't go Bigfin for fun diving. Far from KK, poor diving points, no passioned instructor, the beach in front of Bigfin is too shallow to play water.

I’m not a diver, but the snorkel trip was excellent & the other guests on the boat said the diving was the best they’ve done on the west coast! AND when we were there WHALE SHARKS were in the bay & someone in our group saw them 😍😍! The owners are the perfect mix of helpful, friendly and relaxed. I honestly can’t wait to go back!

Nestled within the breathtaking Mount Kinabalu, the Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden is a paradise for nature lovers. The well-maintained trails offer a leisurely stroll amidst a diverse array of vibrant flowers, exotic plants, and rare orchids. Visitors can revel in the tranquil atmosphere with the soothing sound of flowing water and the harmonious melodies of birds and insects. The garden's affordable entrance fee makes it an accessible destination for immersing oneself in nature's wonders.
Great botanical garden on mount Kinabalu, excellent place to be with nature. Lots of wild orchids, Nepenthes and others unique plants here. Try visit early morning for fresh air and easy parking. You can drive in park near the garden entrance.
It's about a 30 min walk around. Some interesting plants to see. RM5 entrance to gardens. Weather here is not hot, feel windy very comfortable.

Rm 5 entrance to gardens but you also have to pay rm 15 conservation fee to enter the park.
You can drive in and park near the garden entrance but in all honesty we saw more walking around our guest house and the golf course

1. It is a botanical garden where can see different trees and flowers
2. Can be walked from Park headquarter
3. There are trails starting on the way to this garden
4. Not very exciting or scenic paces are here
5. The most exciting thing is the trails around Botanical Garden
Mayukh Chakrabarty — Google review
Frankly I don’t see much difference between the garden and the rest of the trails except that in the garden you are walking on wooden path. The whole garden is really small and it can take 10-20 min to walk through all, even when you are a slow walker and taking millions of pictures it will take max. 30min. Additionally you need to pay extra 5 ringgit on top of the entrance fee…

Amazing nature plus cool greenery make the Botanical Garden such a wonderful place to visit, if climbing Mount Kinabalu isn’t your cup of tea…
This is one place we can see the beautiful green carpet AKA moss in abundance, which goes to show how clean and crisp the air in Kinabalu Park is!

A small botanical garden with documented collection of living plants. Look out for pitcher plants, some are rare species. Some flowers are as small as 5cent coin. Wild orchid can be seen higher attach on trees. Very Interesting!
Entrance fees - rm4 for adult.
- rm2 for senior citizen

Had so much fun exploring the botanical garden, discovered variety of plants which I had never came across before in Peninsular Malaysia. Entrance fee is RM4, and the garden close at 4pm sharp. Not exactly a big garden, but it was enough to keep me entertained for about an hour.
E Woon — Google review
The attracting point here is the creek, the sound of flowing water, the mosses and the singing of birds and insects. Each of the plant is given it's scientific name as well the local name.
The entrance fee is afforadable. You can spend about 30min to 1 hour here to immerse yourself in the nature.
YEOH KHENG SONG — Google review
Wouldn’t recommend this botanical garden. There were just a few of the announced special plants (we just saw one pitcher plant, the rest was dead and we just saw like one tiny white ginger, that’s it). They say it’s like a 15-60 min walk but you will NEVER need 60 min unless you’re not photographing every plant. Entrance fee is 5 MYR for adults and there’s not a special price for students.

A small garden.
If have time worth paying the small entrance fee to walk around.
The Kundasang War Memorial is a tribute to the British and Australian military personnel who perished in the Sandakan POW Camp during World War II. The park features lush greenery, tranquil gardens, and a serene ambiance that provide an ideal setting for visitors to pay their respects. The memorial comprises four beautiful gardens that symbolize unity, peace, victory, and memory.
A Great Place to visit this place. What happened during WW2, back in 1940. Names of All the Great Defenders of North Borneo are displayed on the walls. Place well maintained. Do pay visit whilst in Kandasang.

One of the place to visit while having friends come over which is not local. Knowing the history of those war and what's the contribution that had been made and sacrifice and lead to what we have now. The facility seems like hardly being take care. Probably need more income to service and maintain.

A quiet war memorial sitting in the town of Kundasang. Location is easy to find. Place is well maintain with beautiful garden and flowers being planted inside. There is also a small souvenir shop selling handicraft in this memorial site.

Brought 2-61 year old to enter the place, unfortunately there is no exemptions of entrance fee for 60 above I don’t remember the toddler requirements.
The monument are were closed. make sure to wear hat and bring umbrella while you explore them cause the place is an open area and no shades
Restroom can be found besides the entrance
Overall very educational.

I am not sure if the place is going for secret garden feel or haunted garden feel. There is an entrace fee of rm4 but place has an abandoned/ruin like feel. Leaves are everywhere, moss is abundant on the steps so it is slippery and the foliage tends to lean on the wild side. The flowering shrubs are not tended so do jot flower to their advantage. The picture shared here does not convey the muddiness feel of the fountain. All in all, not sure if it is worth the rm4 charge, but if you are a history buff or have fallen relatives here; sure why not visit?

We visited this war memorial that memorializes the death march in World War 2 where 2,400 British and Australian soldiers perished. Unfortunately the place is very poorly maintained despite a small entrance fee being charged. Those in charge need to do more to properly honour the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Kundasang War Memorial is located at the busy Kundasang market. Its basically a memorial garden for those armies who sacrificed during WW2. The garden was maintained through entrance fees and there is a sundry shop selling snack and drinks for you while in the peaceful hidden garden. Nothing much to explore other than some history monument.

Some areas were beautiful and some areas you wished you can lend your hands/ideas to make it more beautiful especially areas with flowers. It's a beautiful memorial war but its that just the limit you can do to beautify it? So simple? Please repair the seats. Make memorial war great again!

Garden style war memorial dedicated to 1800 Australian, and 600 British servicemen who had died in the Sandakan POW camp, and during the death marches between 1943 and 1945. Also to honour the locals who risked their lives to help the POWs. The place is a series of gardens, namely the Australian Garden, English Rose Garden, and Borneo Garden. The Contemplation Garden has marble plaques inscribed with the names of all who perished, and pond that cuts through a bunch of columns. Behind the Contemplation Garden is a lookout point with a good view of the surrounding area. Lots of greenery and flowers here. Also a souvenir shop and a small resting area with a collection of old photos. Malaysians pay a maintenance fee of RM4.

Poring Hot Spring is a popular resort complex located in Kinabalu Park, offering outdoor pools filled with natural mineral-rich hot spring waters. The attraction features an outdoor pool consistently at about 33 degrees Celsius (92 Fahrenheit) with natural minerals and a cascading waterfall, known for its therapeutic properties that can relieve tense muscles and skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Good place to tour even doing the canopy walk. Breathtaking scenery and be careful with canopy walk that you choose designated photographer as you will need to pay a fee. But be careful you have something to keep camera safe as you will lose it if you drop and may not be able to recover your camera/phone.
I would recommend going to Hot Spring as part of a tour group. Not sure I would recommend swimming or wading in the hot spring as not sure how clean the water is.

Lovely place, where all the Sabahan grew up in 😂
It's quite crowded, especially when we visited during public holiday. Car parks are pretty much full, but if you're staying here, you get to park at your own space next to your house.
Love the River Lodge, a 2 rooms chalet, very big space for a big group. Shower rooms are big surprises. The whole house is next to the river, so you get a whole day zen vibes hearing the sound of river flow.
What's more notable, while you definitely can sitting together at the balcony to enjoy the scene, beware of snakes 🥲
Restaurant is, okay that's the only place you can get food within the Poring, but definitely not a place for good food; not even breakfast. If you are picky, if you must eat good food while visiting and staying overnight, go outside. But if you like to support, you're steady and laid-back, then there you go. An extra note, you'd also needed to purchase a ticket to enter the area, just to get to the restaurant.
Lovely place still, highly recommended to visit ❤️

A really lengthy drive's end to a relaxing bath, but worth it as the water as good as it says, except for the lack of cleanliness in some of the pools from previous users, the water is excellent and you can really wash away all the stress of the day. Worth it for the Geo Park trip alone.

Good spot to visit with family. Relaxing area after a long drive. After entrance payment, can pay additionally for hot spring bathtub, yes you read it right, it’s bath tub to submerge not a swimming pool. But it’s said to be sulphuric hot spring bathtub. We opted to walk to water fall inside about 10-15 mins from entrance. It was worth it. Washrooms were clean. Friendly and respectful staffs. Remember to bring cash everywhere because there is no internet line for QR pay sometimes. We could not enter reflesia park(there was reflesia flower bloomed during our visit) because could not use QR pay as we left our cash in locker room.

Worth to drop by for Mt.Kinabalu hikers
reason is that you can soak your legs in ready Hotspring for muscle relief.
Entrance is free for those with Kinabalu Park tag, the validity is up to 3 days from the date printed in the tag.
as I remember in year 2015 i went for canopy walk is free of charge, but this round they charge Rm5 per pax.
for Hotspring is inexpensive, come with public n private pool.
For canopy as do as recovery hike, but if have joint paint then better dont go for it.
Parking is free.

Some beautiful scenery but I would not do the many many steps and 5 suspension bridges again. I hike regularly but this was an endurance test and some railings were shaky. I should have had a walking stick. I'll leave this for younger people! Toilets and restaurants are just outside. The Restaurant Sejati is modest but gave us a good Malaysian meal..and there was a cat!! :) don't worry, he was at an outside table.

Spent an afternoon soaking in natural spring water. I must say that this is an interesting experience. Felt like big kids playing in a bathtub 😆 🛀
We were there at 2pm and there wasn't many people so we opted for the open public bath
Under every shelter, there are 4 tubs. Each tub cost RM10 for 3 hours. We decided to take just one and squeeze in 🤣😂 there are 2 taps of spring water. Larger one with cold water (think fridge) 🥶 The other with hot water 🔥 (think slightly cooled boiled water)
I tried to endure the cold water as much as I could until I could not take it anymore, haha! I was asked if I would be slightly uncomfortable hot ot cold, and I said hot! LOL
The spring water smelt raw, There is a slight unpleasant odour which you would get used to after a while.
We had fun chatting in the tub until we were all wrinkled. And it is interesting to note that . My stainless steel ring reacted with the water. It turned "gold". Haha, not a bad deal, eh 🤪
We skipped the enclosed private suite that cost RM25/35 per hour. It has a private shower and changing room. There is one with a jacuzzi in it too.
It's a nice place to chill and chat, but it would have been a better experience if it had a garden theme to it. It was all tiles and awning. Would have made a huge difference if we could see the sky and flora. Regardless, I would be happy to r back.

Superb place to spend time if you love outdoor adventure. We thoroughly enjoy the hanging bridge. A total of 5 bridges. Each of them connected via 5 large trees. Each span about about 80m to 100m in length. Nice view from the bridge and the interconnection platform. Bear in mind, please wear proper attire as you'll need to climb/hike up considerable distance/height before reaching the hang bridge first check point. Sportshoes if you like as well. We then head up to Kipungit waterfall. Just walk about 500m from the bridge entrance/exit gate. Nice waterfall. There is another one ahead. Need to further walk about 3km if you want to go to Langanan waterfall. We do not try the hot water bath as they are crowded with visitor. Overall, superb place to visit while in Sabah. Certainly one of the best. From thewhitehairedguyandfamily

Such a rip off. You pay 50rm to enter then everything inside costs 10rm each for the canopy and the hot springs.
The hot springs took 90mins to fill...you get 3 hours so factor this in.
The rock pool was also closed.
The scenery is nice but I don't feel it is worth the cost.

The Hot Spring area is really well-maintained. we also enjoyed exploring the botanical area and seeing all of the different butterflies and bugs that they had on display found a stick bug and a really cool spider and definitely worth the trip. Also, it's worth noting that if you buy a ticket to enter Kinabalu Park, it works here as well so save your ticket.

Nice place to visit especially if you are a nature lover. Clean & well maintained park surrounded by beautiful rainforest & cool fresh air.
The hot spring is actually situated inside the Kinabalu Unesco Geopark. You will need to pay an entrance fees for the park & then pay separately for the hot spring tubs / saunas / pools or sulphur ponds when you are inside.
The hot spring is the first stop when you entered the park.
As you continue on within the Geopark, you can have access to the Canopy Walk, Butterfly Farm, Rafflesia Sanctuary & the waterfalls (Kipungit & Langanan).

Do not go here, it's a total waste of time, you can't go near any hot springs! Other than the canopy walkway and a hike up to the two waterfalls, this place is super overrated! Not worth the MYR 50 entry fee

There place is very soothing with a natural fast flowing river. You can opt to pay for rm4 to just wade in the shallows or rm8 for a dipping. Personally chose the wading as there are hundreds of fish with one or 2 huge catfishes that look like they can swallow your fingers whole. Water is refreshing and you can also opt to feed the fish with fish food other than your own feet. Renovation was underway during my visit, so a portion of the place was not accessable

Sabah Tea Resort in Ranau offers a unique breakfast experience with a backdrop of lush tea plantations and stunning natural scenery. The resort's restaurant serves fresh and healthy morning dishes made from high-quality local ingredients, including the popular choice of toast with tea jam. While the factory may appear abandoned, the cafe is fully operational and offers paid attractions such as a treetop deck and traditional costume rentals. Visitors can also enjoy various photo spots, although some areas of the tea farm may appear less dense.
Food overall okay. Fried rice okay. Drinks are nice. Just desserts are so so only. Price wise, not too cheap but won't be too expensive, just tourist attraction price. Scenery is not bad. Just timing not good can't visit the production factory.

The home of Sabah Tea. The factory looks abandoned, but the cafe is operating. Some minor paid attractions like the treetop deck, and traditional costume rental. Other than that are some photo spots (not very well-maintained), but the tea farm doesn't look very lush, and sparse at some places. Some shelters and lawn chairs for sunset viewings. The cafe offers a variety of Sabah Tea drinks, and food. Prices are above average, but so are the portions. Give the Sabah Tea ice cream a try. During my visit there, the sounds of the cicadas was deafening, so it wasn't very peaceful. There's also a souvenir shop selling various Sabah Tea products and some random stuff.

Food was bad. Maybe chef not in mood. Ordered Chicken Sabah Tea Soup (small portion) - soup okay la, but we only get like 5-6 slices of chicken, mushroom & carrot quite a lot maybe they can change the menu's name to mushroom chicken😂
Wild Vege(pucuk paku) with sardine - okay la nothing much to say because its sardine, u all know how its taste
Ice cream split banana - creamy & not too sweet. Balance taste
Teh tarik sabah tea - i think they forgot to tarik the tea
Flavoured Sabah Tea (Peppermint) - I dont feel refresh because the peppermint is not there.
They have new attraction which is Canopy Walk, maximum spend time is 10minutes. Again...u have to pay to walk thru the bridge Adult :RM5 Children :RM3. (My personal opinion, maybe its will more nice if they dont charge restaurant's customer because well, u gonna spent a lot during dining, consider its complimentary for your restaurant's customer)
They also have souvenirs shop, plenty of flavoured tea available & affordable price.
Service is so so because during my time there, group of tourist there so staff more attentive to the tourist's.

Spacious area for dining. The green tea pancakes were quite mushy instead of fluffy. Recommend the pandan teh Tarik. Other food items seemed overpriced.
In terms of attractions, there’s the gift shop with a list of tea prices compared to other locations (data as of 2016), POW death March route history, treehouse (rm5 per adult) with canopy walk - do not recommend as it’s quite expensive with views obstructed by trees, factory, plantation, long houses.

A really nice to place to just have your afternoon tea. The actual tea factory was closed when I was there. But I managed to walk around the plantation and actually see workers doing their jobs. Nice people around. The restaurant however is open for business. My family and I had our tea and desserts there. The ice cream doesn't taste that good. Maybe it's made out of tea but their fried banana fritters is awesome.

Sabah Tea Resort offers a scenic view of tea plantations, but it lacks insight into the tea-making process. The focus seems to be more on the restaurant and picturesque views. Visitors have the option to rent ethnic Sabah costumes and explore the ranch, but it comes at an additional cost. To enhance the experience, it would be beneficial for the resort to provide information on the tea production process, along with galleries and historical insights for a more enriching visit.

Green tea waffle is too dense and firm with no topping / spread inside. It was only provided with honey. It tastes very plain.
The banana fritters are not cooked adequately, soggy. So the inside of the banana is very raw.

Deramakot Forest Reserve is a sustainable rainforest located in Malaysia's Borneo Island that is home to various exotic animals such as the clouded leopard, orangutans, and Borneo elephants. The vastness of the island makes it impossible to explore every hidden gem, but Deramakot offers a unique opportunity to witness wildlife that one may have never seen before, like the leopard cat.
I spent my whole life dealing with the rainforest of Malaysia , Borneo and yet the Island is to really big to explore the hidden germs. And as for Deramakot, it's open my eyes as I spotted many Wildlife which I've never seen before..such as the leopard cat

I don’t know where to start, but my partner and I had the most incredible three days at Deramakot and were left in awe. We were drawn to it at the possibility of spotting an elusive clouded leopard; but soon learned the experience was so much more than that. Having researched many different agents we decided to go with Sukau Greenview Lodges as we were already booked on a 3D2N river cruise with them, and they provided the best value for money we could find. We paid 2,500 MYR per pax for 3D2N at the Forest including all meals and our guided safaris. We had no regrets! Luckily we ended up with a private tour as no other guests had booked on, and we were picked up by our guide Hamit Suban. Hamit lived in Malaysian Borneo all of his life and had so much knowledge about the area, very kindly answering our many questions! His ability to spot wildlife with the smallest light flicker, movement or change of smell was astonishing. We were blown away by his skills and passion for the job, and learnt so much. The food at the reserve is to a very good standard and they cater to all tastes/cuisines. Although it states basic accommodation we were very pleasantly surprised by the chalets, they were clean and comfy, exactly all you need after hours out on safari. The guides have binoculars but we also rented a pair for 50,000 MYR which was totally worth it. We bought leech socks at the market in sandakan prior and recommend you have good shoes/rain jacket (ideally body length), as although the walking is generally minimal and optional, the long hours on safari can some with a change in weather. We saw a family of 5 gibbons pretty close, many flying squirrels, a slow loris who climbed right down close to us, giant squirrels, about 6 Malaysian civets which are gorgeous, 4 leopard cats, orang-utans (a mother with a one month baby and juvenile preparing a nest, unreal!), many eagles, pheasant, small otters, porcupine and many other small mammals and birds. Lastly, we were lucky enough to spot two baby marbled cats which was surreal. Each sighting is thrilling no matter what you are seeing, and we didn’t anticipate the small things to bring so much joy. We went with no expectations and that’s the only way to visit as you can’t plan nature, but it’s an unmissable experience and we can’t stop raving about it. From dinner in the depths of the jungle, stunning sunrise and sunset over the canopies and being in touch with the simplicity and beauty of being hours from anywhere - it has a piece of our heart! Thanks to Hamit for an unforgettable time at Deramakot, we cannot recommend your services enough! Don’t sleep on it, people! Best, C + C

So lats get the obvious shortcomings dealt with. This is essentially a research station. If you want a swimming pool, bar, luxury restaurant then this isn't the place for you. But you're not here for that right? What you do get is a small room with en suite and a small space for your case. It's perfectly adequate and even has aircon. Your guide will bring a chef and supplies in with you. You will he fed enough and a limited selection of drinks are available. No Michelin stars here but again you're not here for that. What you are here for is wildlife and you will see that here in abundance. Siti was an outstanding guide and very helpful too.

We chose Adventure Alternative Borneo for our Deramakot trip because of the very positive reviews here. I was skeptical how one-sided the reviews were. Now I know.
A friendly meet up at Telupid gave a false hope that it would be a nice trip.
[Serious safety alert] On the second day, after the morning drive, the guide told us to meet up at 15:30 for the afternoon drive. So we gathered at the doorstep of our house at 15:30, waited for 15 min before going to check what happened, only to find the guide and driver sleeping in their room. Apparently whisky had been drunk, as a half full bottle and glasses were seen on the table (see attached photo). When the guide finally got up to talk to us, he denied having said 15:30 for the pm drive, and instead claimed that there were only am and night drives for the day, according to the itinerary. But it was clearly written in the itinerary that there are 3 drives per day (anyone can check the itinerary on AAB’s website). At the end we had to settle birding on foot ourselves for the afternoon. I couldn’t imagine riding on a 4WD driven by a drunk driver in the dirt track of the forest, guided by a drunk guide.
The guide denying what he said earlier: https://youtu.be/7mXzTD6hE0k
As for the reserve itself, based on my 4D3N stay, I didn’t see the abundance of wildlife I had expected, definitely not comparable to Kinabatanga or Tabin. I guess for this reserve, you just have to stay at least a week to be able to see some more species and/or rare stuff. Here, it can go half an hour without a single mammal sighting in the night safari drive even in perfect weather.
I would not recommend AAB, even if you choose to try your luck in Deramakot.

The staff are genuinely concerned that the forestry is ecologically friendly. They are also very friendly and informative.

Want to do a jungle tour and not pay so much for Danum Valley? Then book a Deramakot tour. There is not much tourism. We booked a private tour by LOST Borneo and had the time of our lives! We spotted a lot of wildlife and Oran Otangs. Check out our blog!

Deramakot is all about the wildlife, as the accommodation is just a forestry department facility, and not geared for tourism. So we went there for the animals, and we got them in abundance. At one point we saw 11 orang utans in a 90 minute period, during which time we also watched 21 Elephants grazing on the road less than 100m away. We also sae a reticulated python, Leopard Cats, various civet species, a spotted cat snake, lots of cool frogs, a couple of slow loris, many beautful bird species (our fave's being rhinoceros hornbill and Blythe's Paradise Flycatcher), heaps of insects and butterflies, a moonrat, flying squirrels, colugo, and many other awesome animals.
Our spotter Mike was absolutely world class and saw things that we couldn't understand how he spotted. He is the best wildlife spotter we've used anywhere in the world.
And Alternative Adventures Borneo put together a really good package for us, right across Sabah, with Deramakot being the highlight.
It was also good to see that there is a workable version of sustainable logging. Although the tallest dipterocarps have been removed (meaning the forest is not as impressive as Danum Valley), the biodiversity was outstanding, and the forest was amazing except for the canopy. It's worthwhile making the effort to get to Deramakot if you are after serious wildlife watching.
Jon and Esther Biesse — Google review
In general, the wildlife viewing was disappointing mainly civet cats and frogs. Only one orangutan was seen on a 4 day and 3 night visit. Elephants (10?) were seen on the way in and one on the way out.
Birds did help rescue the trip. The Greater coucal, Barred eagle owl, Blyth's paradise flycatcher, Crested fireback, and Bronzed drongo were sighted.
For the safari drive, there is only a single road cutting through the reserve, so its back and forth on this one road.
As stated previously, some of the safari trucks are not safe. A sudden bump on the rough road could have easily thrown one out.
I visited a month ago, at the end of March.

Excellent wildlife viewing (particularly for Orangutans) available and surprisingly good facilities at base camp. Very expensive compared to other wildlife tours in Sabah but I think it's worth it if you're a wildlife enthusiast. We went during the middle of the rainy season and still managed to see a wide variety of wildlife. I imagine it would be an even better experience during the dry season.

I must give a bad review to Deramakot Forest Reserve since my experience was not good in general, meaning meeting my expectations, and neither it was for most people I could meet there who had been in the reserve even for far longer time than we were. It is very difficult to see wildlife here, we chose this reserve because we read in different blogs and reviews that here it was easier to spot wildlife than in Danum Valley because the forest is less dense. Well, maybe it is easier, but then that only means that in Danum Valley it is even more extremely difficult. We spent 3D/2N with LOST Borneo, regarding the company they are very professional, our guides Rajeesh and Kwan (sorry if I misspell) were absolutely great, very knowledgeable and experienced guys, they literally live for the jungle and know it very well. The only bad thing I could mention is of course the price, but however I cannot completely know if that is a matter of the companies going to Deramakot (or any jungle reserve) or just an issue of the Malasyan government (like happens in Mount Kinabalu or Sipadan). It is really expensive to go to the jungle and you will probably won't have the experience or opportunities to spot wildlife that you would like to, so for me is totally not worth it and I wouldn't go again and would advise anyone against going unless you have plenty of money and long enough time to stay in the jungle, since probably more than a week is necessary to properly see interesting things. We could just see one Orangutan, a few gibbons very far away, a few read leaf monkeys, plenty of civets and squirrels and a few hornbills. We didn't spot a single cat or leopard, and we did 3 night drives. We didn't see any elephant. We didn't see any sun bear. So what I basically mean is that companies shouldn't ask for such money because I think what they are selling is the possibility of seeing wildlife that is extremely hard to see, and most probably at the end of the trip you will left thinking that you have wasted a huge amount of money to see very few animals and not the ones you will probably would like to see. We meet a lady who had been there for more than one week, desperately looking for cats and clouded leopard, and she could only see 1 leopard cat in the total length of her stay. The only positive thing I can see from spending such money is that, since Deramakot is not a protected area that it is still being deforested by palm oil plantations, is that our money contributes to stop the deforestation, since the only way the Malaysian government tells the plantation companies to stop cutting trees is when they are getting money from the forest coming from other sources, in this case ripping off tourist.

We booked our trip with Adventure Alternative Borneo.
At times throughout the course of our trip, we felt as if the guide was doing wildlife watching himself, giving minimal attention to us as customers e.g. pointing flashlight on animal without explaining what it was. At other times, he was ok, fulfilling his very basic duties as a guide, giving some wildlife interpretation when we asked. This moodiness of him made us feel as if we had done something wrong, which was not the case.
The seats on the 4WD truck were basically chairs welded to the trunk with no modification to facilitate getting on and off the vehicle. Initially the guide and driver provided a ladder only high up to the tyre for us. This is very risky for the elderly couple of our group, especially so in this very humid forest reserve. I explained this to the guide and driver and requested a taller ladder, just to see their reluctance and not taking our safety seriously. To be fair though, they did use the taller ladder I requested afterwards.
This is unacceptable even for a budget tour. I wasn't expecting this kind of service from a company that receives so much good review on the internet and that asked for this tour price. The thing about being in a remote forest reserve like this is that you can't complain because you are literally on the hands of the work team. You just have to endure your whole stay even though you are dissatisfied about their service.
My experience made me seriously doubt the trustworthiness and reputation of the company.

We booked a 3D/2N wildlife tour with L.O.S.T Borneo. One of the BEST trips in my life. I would really recommend these guys. Their enthusiasm, their knowledge about the forest and the animals living in it, the way they organized everything, couldn’t wish for more!

Great place to see biodiversity and reduced impact logging. No internet service but nice place! Recommend!
This expansive sanctuary near Sandakan, Borneo offers a great opportunity to observe the Proboscis monkey species in their natural habitat. The sanctuary houses about 150 monkeys and provides access to 2 observation platforms where visitors can watch staff feed them. This wildlife rescue service is a great place to learn about Borneo's famous proboscis monkey, and it's an exciting experience that not to be missed when visiting Sandakan.
We are SO glad we did this. It's a bit far and many people skip it. Which is a shame. We skipped it the last time we came to the area. So glad we didn't this time. We had so much fun here. Tons of monkeys, easy to see. The worker was very informative. As we were the only people there the monkeys would run right inside across the viewing platform, slapping the ground really hard to be loud. It was hilarious and so interesting to see. We paid 160 MYR to get out there from our Sepilok hotel. We rented a car in KL for 100 MYR a day. We should have just rented a car in Sandakan as all our taxi rides were a lot more than that. However, it's nice to be contributing to the tourist Industry again after it got destroyed by Covid. They ticket office gave us the Malaysia resident rate. We live and work here and pay Malaysia taxes. It was 15 MYR. Even the foreigner rate is very reasonable.

Struggling how to rate this place if I’m honest.
The sanctuary is actually an undeveloped area of a palm oil plantation that has seemingly destroyed the majority of the animals natural habitat and is now profiting from the few remaining monkeys by charging entry.
You can access the site by car only. You arrive to the plantation and pay 60RM each for entry which is considerably more than the far more worthy Orangutan and Sunbear rehabilitation centres. Card payments are accepted.
Aside from the viewing platform there is very little else to do. From the map it looks like a large walkable resort but it is actually a working plantation and you wouldn’t want to spend the day exploring.
From the platform we did see a large hornbill and a number of eagles. At feeding time the workers dump a large bucket of bread on the platforms to attract the proboscis monkeys. We saw many and they are absolutely amazing creatures. It was incredible to see them up close.
I loved the animals but the attraction itself was sad and I wouldn’t recommend it to others. It would be much better to visit these animals in their natural environment or to visit the other sanctuaries in Sepilok that are working hard to protect Borneo and the animals that live here.

Very cool place to hang out and see the Proboscis Monkey's. I didn't even know what a Proboscis Monkey was till coming to Borneo! What cool creatures, very smart too.
We arrived early afternoon and we were just in time for a feeding, the man threw a bunch of bananas and other fruits to start and then eventually let them have more as more monkeys came to the platform. Some of the monkeys were very personable and interested in us, some were very skittish and less sure about what were doing watching them eat.
Our time slot wasn't very busy and there were many Monkey's around, defiantly more than I thought. I was impressed with the sanctuary and learnt more than I was expecting too.

I was a bit sceptical visiting this place after reading some of the bad reviews. But it was not a disappointing one. A good place for a close encounter. The monkeys are free to roam. There were many infants. This place has been operational for almost 20years. Yes, most of their natural habitats have been destroyed due to deforestation but if they do not feed these monkeys, they might go extinct. That’s the price we pay to become a developed country. If you prefer to see proboscis monkeys in their natural habitats, do a river cruise with sights of fireflies but don’t forget to bring binoculars to see the monkeys.

The monkey so cute. But the road there dissapointed. Not suitable for small car. Potential attraction if improve the road and plan for more activities. Last feeding time 430pm for check point B. Tickets RM15 per person.

Hard to express my feelings but I didn’t feel comfortable to see that proboscis monkeys are feeding like that then I left early. I was so ignorance to believe this is a sanctuary, but actually this place is belong to the palm plantation owners who destroyed the habitat of monkeys and other wildlife. They are now still make money from them by feeding them and sell the ticket for ignorance tourist like me. Such a disgusting business. So sad that I didn’t read the review before going . When talking to the driver, he revealed that the real owners behind of the plantation and “sanctuary“ are Chinese. Please don’t go there and support those kinds of people by our money. Return the wildlife to that poor but lovely creatures. And if you want to see proboscis monkeys in the wildlife, go to Kinabatangan River, at KOPEL, they did a good job on the reforestation and creating the habitat for orangutans, proboscis and other animals.

We arrived into the Sanctuary to platform B around 12.00 pm so after feeding time. But we were very lucky, we saw the silver leaf monkeys there! They are so cute, friendly, calm and adorable 😍. They also came to us really close. Then we ate nice dinner in the local restaurant. After it we drove to platform A around 1.00pm. there were a lot of (more than 20 !) amazing proboscis monkeys. It was definitely worth to spend money and time there!
It's better to take driver because the counter and platforms are very far from each other. We also didn't have internet connection there. So if we hadn't taken the driver we wouldn't have any options to come back even to Sepilok or anywhere.

Interesting place where to see proboscis monkeys close to you. Negative points: they feed monkeys with "no sugar" pancakes (as they said). Very poor info available for turists regarding monkeys, so apparantly no sign for rehab for these animals.

Animal cruelty at its smartest.
A palm oil company has destroyed the habitat of these beautiful monkeys, and has now made a "sanctuary" where they feed these desperate monkeys bread. And I was so ignorant that I paid to see it.
I was in tears after the first platform.
Please, please, please don't support this horrific place. I hadn't researched it before going, and it honestly makes me feel sick that I supported this place with my money.

Amazing place, well worth going! We were at Platform B at around 1pm and we were the only ones there. Could already see the monkeys where we parked but they were a lot in very close proximity (within 5m), bring binoculars for the best experience! We were at platform A for the 2.30pm feeding, WOW the monkeys are already waiting well before 2.30pm. Great experience to see wild monkeys up close but could do with more information. Warning: the roads are absolutely atrocious and Internet connection is very limited. Price for foreigners is significantly marked up

I love this place. I visited platform B and waiting for feeding time . There is a small cafe where you can order food to drink while waiting. Before feeding time, there was not a monkey, but when it approached the time, the monkeys gradually came. The monkey's face is very cute, I've never seen it before, there are small and big. The staff will continue to feed the base. We can walk to see every base. When the food runs out, the monkey will return to the forest.

Beware of very bad road condition, place have 2 platform not far from each other but the road to and in between at the point of non existence. Feeding time was interesting n monkeys just amazing. Whole place is just in the middle of palm tree plantation.
Anna Tereshenko — Google review
While it’s incredible to see the proboscis monkeys up close, the ethics of this establishment are definitely a gray area. They allow visitors to get too close and workers feed them ‘pancakes’, which even without the sugar, seem a far cry from food they would eat in the wild. The ticket price is high, and they are is no education or learning offered. You pay a high price to drive through their palm plantation to watch them feed the monkeys. While I was approaching platform B, one of the monkeys was startled and ran towards me at full speed. I felt very unsafe and worry for the children that were allowed to touch wild animals. These beautiful creatures are indeed endangered so I’m happy to see the land owners have elected to leave the forests and provide a protected place for them to live. Mixed feelings about the entire experience, a few changes to their practices would make the experiences safer for visitors and healthier for the animals.

A great place for birdwatching and animal spotting in general. You can see a lot both on the skywalk and walking on the ground. You can easily spend a whole day here!
I’d highly recommend doing the night walk too as the guides have an incredible ability to spot wildlife.
Note: it’s about a 20min walk from the orangutan and sun bear centre. During the day there are plenty of Grabs but at night there are none at all!

A perfect place for birdwatching, you can go to the top of hornbill tower to have the best view for the forest and the rare birds. If you love wildlife and nature, you can book a night walk session from 6pm-8pm for RM30 per person, a professional guide will bring you around and spot animals for you, we got lucky and saw slow loris, mouse-deer, tarsier, and red giant squirrel. The experience was slightly scary but very thrilling because it’s all dark and the only light source is from the guide’s torchlight. 10/10 would recommend!

I was fortunate to do a couple canopy walks at the Rainforest Discovery Centre, with one being an early morning that was a wonderful experience and one I won’t forget. It was so peaceful walking along the recently built canopy bridge and various towers that are high above the forest canopy listening to nature at its best, birds singing and flying around.
If you’re there for the afternoon/evening look out for the flying squirrels around 6pm that are very cute and can fly great distances between the tree tops. Quite impressive creatures.
Being a nature lover I could’ve walked the canopy bridges and towers every day for a week.
Highly recommend the discovery center.

Amazing experience, the RDC offers paths and hikes for everyone: from the canopy walk ("be a Skywalker" 😁) to broad and well maintained paved paths to little hikes meandering up and down the hills. Sadly, 8:30am was too late to see much in terms of wildlife, so go at sunrise. The canopy is an gigantic steel construction that blends in naturally with the jungle, and the views from the towers are breath taking. But it needs a bit of fresh paint in places...

Wildlife haven. Fair admission fees and the signages, foodplace and well-maintained toilets make the place very visitor-friendly. Go for the night walk and if you're lucky you will see the slow loris and western tarsier in action. If you're a birdwatcher, make sure to go in early (it usually gets quiet after 10am) and consider going deeper into the trails or hiring a guide to see your target species.

We really enjoyed walking around the park and spent almost 3 hours here. Managed to get a Grab to and from the Banana Cafe in the morning. Would recommend wearing closed walking shoes, musquito spray and to bring water. There is a cafe where they sell water and some snacks for pretty cheap. We saw hornbills and flying squirrels, but you have to be quiet so you don't scare them away. Luckily it wasn't very busy when we were there on Sunday morning. The park looked clean and has some great walks and viewing towers. Very friendly lady at the ticket office. They also do a nightwalk, but that requires advance reservation.

This organization is dedicated to the rehabilitation of orangutans that have been poached or captured illegally from their natural habitats, and you can visit it up close to observe them in their most authentic state. There are around 200 orangutans living in the reserve, and many more visit the feeding platform on a regular basis.
RM5 entry ticket for adults with mykad. Surrounded with tall trees, nicely built pathway from feeding observation to nursery place. Very informative (name of trees beside the pathway, infos of the orangutan species). Great rehab centre for the orphan orangutans. Just next to it is the sun bear conservation centre.

If you are staying in the area you have to come here. Lots of orangutans to see at feeding time. We stayed by the feeding platform after the feeding finished and the crowds dispersed and more orangutans came to visit and we had the place to ourselves.
The price for entry was 30RM per person and it is cash only!
The place is quite small so it’s easy to get around. You stick to the raised wooden walkways which can be slippy especially after rain so wear sensible shoes.
The staff seemed really disengaged and quite unfriendly. Many were sat on their phones ignoring guests. There were areas of the nursery we wouldn’t have known we could go to without exploring ourselves and again all staff hiding behind a desk on their phones so no info.
There are Covid rules still in place for the safety of the orangutans. You are expected to wear a mask at all times indoors and outdoors and there are some seemingly random areas taped off. Hopefully this will improve soon and the staff will get more used to having visitors again.

Yes, this problem could have been avoided but kudos to the ORC for doing something. This isn't a zoo, the objective of this place is not for tourists to see orangutans.

What a wonderful experience to see these incredible and threatened primates in action. We learned a lot and thought the set up was very respectful of the animals. We went twice - afternoon is less crowded. Quite different each time.
Nicki Hutley — Google review
Amazing experience and I love how all the animals are free to move around such a big place! I suggest you also take time to walk slowly and look for small creatures, I saw some that I found very interesting and pretty! (If you are into that of course)
We went in the morning and then again in the afternoon and it was a different experience.

If you have never seen an orangutan, here is such a place to come. Its not like a zoo where there are tons of animals on display for humans; it's more like we are visitors to their home. So take it as such. We'll maintained walkways and a good number of trained staff make this place a good place to visit.

Basically guaranteed up close encounters with Orangutans. No fences, but felt safe with staff presence and all rehabilitated orangutans amidst the jungle on the walkways. Feeding times are a must! Did see one of them from the carpark though, just 10m away. Great information area too.

Loved it. Come early, little before 9 am. You can’t take any bag or water bottles with you , they give you a locker to put them in. And then enjoy the orangutan. They are so beautiful.

Went there around 2.30pm. The feeding time is 3 pm. The open air area only have one orang Utan came. But the nursery have more than 15 orang Utan came. So better go to the nursery area. Can watch from a aircond room.
Crystal Pua — Google review
Entrance fee is only RM5.00 per adult. There are two parts where you can watch the Orang Utan. One outdoor where you can watch they eat during feeding time (10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.)
And one from the air conditioned room where you can watch Orang Utan that are under the specific age in the nursery behind the glass.
There’s locker provided for bags.
On our way from watching the Orang Utan eating to the nursery we were stopped by the staff because the OU is passing by the walkway, were lucky to experience that but not captured in photo here

I try to find wild Orangutan in Kinabatangan river but no luck to see them in wild. This is the best place to see orangutan in short distance. The staff all friendly from ticket counter, locker and along the track. They give me a lot of explanation about Orangutan that i never knew before. All you need is just start the conversation with them. Thank you for amazing experiences.

Great conservation project with great execution. This place rescues orangutans that have been displaced due to deforestation. Yes, this problem could have been avoided but kudos to the ORC for doing something. This isn't a zoo, the objective of this place is not for tourists to see orangutans. During feeding times though, if you're lucky, you'll see some - most from the nursery, sometimes wild ones from the area We saw one wild dominant male who must have smelled the food.

This is If course a good cause. But I do Not get the Hype around it. It is cute to See them eat but it is very overcrowded by tourists.
It is a nice surrounding forest. But you should Not go there only for the Monkeys.

Such a cool experience to be amongst the orangutan! Then to have the other species of monkey come up too was awesome and a surprise. Lovely setting in the forest. Great staff. 10/10 would recommend.

A must see on your visit. Time your visit to the feedings to best experience the orang utans. We were lucky to see a mother with her baby. The sun bears were fun also. I wish the staff had done more to explain the rehabilitation process as it would make the visit even better.

Excellent, only word i can describe this place. We saw loads of Orangutans, feeding, etc, a truley remarkable experience. This place does a fantastic job for the Orangutans.

Highly recommend!
The staff are fantastic at running this rehabilitation Centre and it is clear they have the orangutans best interest at heart as well as allowing the public to enjoy seeing them feed.
It is safe, controlled and calmly done. It is a short guided experience to allow the monkeys their own time and not be overwhelmed by tourists.
Watch from a far and be respectful and you’ll have a great time seeing these amazing animals.

A good place for those who have not seen orangutans before. This centre maintains a strict distancing between visitors and the animals for good reasons. You need luck to see more of them during your visit especially when the weather is hot.we were very lucky to come across a mother orangutan with her baby who unexpectedly appeared in front of us as we’re leaving the park. It’s an unforgettable experience!

The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is a wildlife refuge in Malaysia that rehabilitates and saves the world's smallest bear from extinction. The 40 rescued sun bears live in 2.5 hectares of forest where experts work to protect them from threats such as habitat loss, illegal hunting, and the pet trade industry.
We thank the chance to able to join a virtual tour of Dr Wong online sponsored by Relax Bottles 10.10 Bazaar event. It's definitely an eye opening experience for our whole family, big and small. Love love love Dr Wong's detailed explanation and patience throughout the tour. We learned so much that we never knew before. The kids were especially excited and had fun!!! 💕
Thanks a lot because we had a hard time to find some virtual tours conducting in English. This is definitely a big highlight of our weekend 💖

The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre is nothing short of extraordinary. Their dedication to the welfare and conservation of Bornean sun bears is truly commendable.
Visiting this center was not just an eye-opening experience but also a heartwarming one. Witnessing the rescued sun bears thriving in their natural-like environment and learning about the conservation efforts was inspiring.
The knowledgeable staff are passionate about their work and eager to share their insights, making the visit not only educational but also deeply engaging. It's evident that they are making a significant impact on the preservation of this endangered species.
Furthermore, the BSBCC's commitment to research and public awareness is crucial in fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges these bears face and why their conservation is imperative.
For anyone interested in wildlife conservation and the protection of these incredible creatures, a visit to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre is an absolute must. It's an experience that will leave you with a profound appreciation for the beauty of nature and the importance of our role in its preservation.

Wow! An absolute MUST when you're in Sandakan. I recommend visiting from 9am-3:30pm while they're open and ducking over to the orangutan sanctuary at 10am and 3pm to watch the monkey feeding. The sunbear conservation centre was one of my absolute favourite places I've visited in SEA. The bears are so ridiculously cute and you can tell they're very well loved and taken care of. The entire staff/animal handlers are extremely kind and knowledgeable about each and every bear as well as sun bears in general. The founder, Dr. Wong Siew Te, was even there answering questions and sharing his enthusiasm about these majestic animals. You can really really tell how passionate, knowledgeable, and inspired he is by these animals. It's such an amazing thing to know that these bears are safe now. There are two viewing platforms where you can see these bears from many different angles. They also tend to hang out around platforms so you'll have no problem seeing them! I also recommend checking out the gift shop, I was able to mail my family a post card directly from here and picked up some cute stickers and a tote! Also note that they accept card payment for entry/the shop! (: enjoy!

An hour is plenty of time to visit. It's quite small. Even if you only have 30 minutes, definitely go!!! That is enough time to see them. In the first enclosure the 3 bears were easy to see. We went in the afternoon. One was active. We did see another sleeping in a tree and glimpses of a couple of others in the farthest enclosure. The video in the information center was interesting and well done. We are residents of Johor so with our work pass visa we got the resident rate. Same at the Rainforest Discovery Center. Not that we mind the foreign price (although we do pay Malaysia taxes) because the prices aren't high for what you get to see and how well done the wildlife refuges are.

I understand why the center was established and there which is good to see, however being there felt like being in a zoo unfortunately.
The bears are in large fenced enclosures which you can view from platforms above.
They walk around like a zoo on dirt grounds, yet I remind myself they are handled better there than their previous owners.
I would visit if you’re in the area.

We saw 9 or 10 of 19 sun bears they have. Some call it a zoo, but zoo animals does not have such large nature cages, this is in the jungle. I love this place and that they try to save the sun bears, thank you for doing this. We were there at feeding time, interesting to see them eat, and a monkey came and stole fruit from a sun bear.

Managed to see quite a number of the cute sun bears during my visit. There's no fixed feeding time so it was pure luck that that the bears were being fed when we arrived at 11.30am. Even after eating the sun bears were quite active despite the afternoon heat.
There are 2 well built platforms to view the sun bears which are connected by a skywalk. There's also a guide at each platform to help you spot the bears and answer any questions.
Prices are high for foreigners at 50 ringgit a person but you are contributing to the conservation of these beautiful animals.

Nice experience, you can really read and learn a lot about them there. They are doing a good thing, but you can see that some bears are stressed but it might be from before they were rescued. I liked the names and descriptions of all the bears and you can see they released two who were buddies in the sanctuary together, I found that so extremely beautiful and cute. There is not a specific feeding time but I got lucky when I was there it was at about 10.30. I liked it, the bears are really special and cute and you can learn quite a lot also.

What a great experience! Well worth the 31.80 ringgit they charge foreign visitors. We spent almost 2 hours here. At the start they have a series of well produced videos documenting a lot of the work the BSBCC has done for these bears. I'm not sure why some people are complaining about how far away the bear are (this isn't supposed to be a zoo after all) because it definitely wasn't true for my visit. Some of the bears we're less than 10 meters away. Even the bears further back in the different areas were still easy enough to see. They even had a couple telescopes set out so you could see them up close. The facility is very nice and I saw many other animals and interesting insects along the way. This was just as much fun as the orangutan sanctuary!

Well I was expecting to see
Them more ( as I only saw 3of them ), and then they hide. They of course are nice , but definitely will never go again. But yes it’s worth to see one time in your life :::)) if u are so fare 🤭

This was a really lovely experience to see the sun bears up close. You can do the whole centre in less than half an hour as it is quite small but up to you if you spend as much time as you want at the two observation decks. Make sure to come between 10:30-11:30 as that is the feeding time and is a lot more interesting to see them eating than sleeping. The atmosphere is also very peaceful.
I wouldn’t come a long distance to see it by itself but in addition to the orang-utan’s sanctuary it’s worth doing.

A great place to see how Bornean sun bears are saved from animal abuse and conserved and protected in one place.
You can walk around in the dense rainforest and observe how the sunbears live. Located just next to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre.

My first visit to BSBCC was a wonderful experience. It’s definitely a must-visit spot in Sandakan. I was filled with excitement to see the Sun Bears up close, and I was delighted to find that they are all healthy and well taken care of.
During my visit, I was lucky to witness the zookeeper feeding the bears, and it was heartwarming to see how peacefully they ate. The bears even shared their food with the monkeys.
While I was there, I learned about the history of BSBCC and gained a lot of knowledge about Sun Bears. I was also excited to see that they are looking for volunteers to help care for the Sun Bears. This is an opportunity you shouldn’t miss!
If you plan to visit, remember to wear a hat because it can get quite hot due to many open viewing areas. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes too, as there are some stairs to climb to reach the bear viewing areas.
I hope BSBCC continues to be well-maintained, and all the bears stay healthy. So, if you’re in Sandakan, make sure to stop by and enjoy this unique experience!

This place is amazing. Ah-maz-ing. First of all, it accepts card, as opposed to the orangutan centre right across the parking lot. Second of all, there are placards all around the walkways on sun bears, so there’s a ton of info to read (in Malay and English) as you stroll around. The feedings are random, not like the orangutans, which kind of stinks, but also means you don’t have a massive herd of people and it’s a much calmer atmosphere (at least when I was there earlier last week). And finally, I feel so privileged that the founder and CEO Dr. Wong, was on site and answered tons of questions and provided loads of detailed info on the sun bears. Myself and a few others were chatting with him for at least an hour. What a great man! He said he also does spay and neuter campaigns in the neighbourhood so even more kudos to him. The videos they show on the centre and Dr. Wong are educational and interesting to watch.
AND THIS PLACE HAS RECYCLE BINS!!! 😍😍 Honestly, come here and adopt a sun bear!!

What a beautiful day I had looking at the Sun bears at the Borneo conservation area. These animals are fantastic to view while they stay in natural surroundings.
Seeing the world In a different way — Google review
Watching the video to learn about what a this center doing. Respect their mission and kindness to protect Sun bears and protect the eco system of Borneo rainforest. If you are looking to seeing Sun bears only without knowing about their story, their mission, you might be disappointed because you might see a few Sun bears there after feeding sessions. And you can finish your visit with 30mins. My suggestion is watching the video to get information before or after seeing Sun bears . RM50 for entrance is hard to say expensive or not.,It depends on what are you looking for.
I left 4 stars because of the difference of local and tourists fee, 10 compared with 50 and I really don’t know if there is a good reason doing that?
Kayla Ng — Google review
Really worth a visit. They do a lot to rehabilitate mistreated sunbears for a release into the wild, after years of preparation. The concept also means you're not guaranteed to see one or more sunbears but that simply speaks to the seriousness of what they're doing. The entrance fee of RM 50 for foreigners seems very affordable for the cause and their efforts. Little movie screening on their work at the entrance as well as a free cold water refill, true eco style.

I loved the experience and knowledge gained from this conservation centre. The sun bears are so cute and amazing to watch. There were informative signs up and great video explanations showing in the information centre. The staff were knowledgeable when I asked about the success of the releases back into the wild. It really sounds like they are doing great work here to help. They also offer free water re-fills which is brilliant as I didn't have to buy another plastic bottle :) I wish them all the best for more success rehabilitations in the future

Well worth the trip and it is quite heart breaking but also rewarding to read the stories about the sun bears and how a lot of them were illegally sold to be pets or used as a delicacy. No set feeding time but they had a feeding at 11.30am when we were there. Though the feeding wasn’t needed as the sun bears were well within sight. Small place with 2 viewing platforms, I think we were out in 45 minutes. You can also purchase postcards and international postage for cheap (RM1.5) in their souvenir shop.
