A vast water body in the foothills of Valparai. Situated between mountains, this place looks extravagant and large. There is a long road on the banks of this place, you can have a long walk if you are fit enough. When you visit this place, you can remember seeing the place in many tamil movies.
They have a small park and play srea for kids. The surrounding area is full of trees and lots of eateries serving fish dishes.
From the base area to the top, there are steep steps which would feel little hard for older people. But the view on top is great and worth the climb. If lighting is good, this place can be a good place for photography. Also, the surrounding mountains creates a good scenery.
When you climb up towards Valparai, you can have a gold glimpse of the full dam area. From hairpin bend 7 to 15. Be cautious if you are driving though.
One thing to note is that the staff in ticket counter would try to con you. They will chsrge 20rs for 1 mobile phone but will not give the ticket. Please ensure that you ask and get it.

Very nice scenery.. an important place to visit near coimbatore for a day trip . but bit crowded during holidays. Plenty of parking but it will be full on holidays. very difficult to park your own vehicles.
Divya Prakash G — Google review
Good view of Valparai hills from the dam. Can experience a scenic view from top. Park is available for children with average maintenance. Other than small river flows across the park. One of the most important movie shooting spots in Pollachi area. Hotels and tea shops are available outside the park. Parking is sufficient. Entry and parking charges are bit high. Can go for relaxed evening and morning.

★ The spot includes a garden, and play area for kids.
★ This is a good spot to spent time with kids, friends and family.

Nice view points. Park is not maintained much. Good parking space. There are hotels opposite to that dam.

A few shops are there but it can't be a better place to find a hotel. Be careful when parking as there are a lot of monkeys. A small park is there, 30 rs for each ride there
Basheer p m — Google review
It’s a well-maintained dam with clean amenities and a beautifully maintained garden and park. However, be aware of the beggars as they can become quite irritating, from the parking area to the entrance. Overall, it leaves you with an okay feeling.

This is one of the spots where we can visit during the journey to valparai. I recommend to visit either in the evening or morning due to the hot clomate there would be difficult for kids and elders.
A small climbing is needed to reach at the top of the dam and once reached the view would be amazing, boating facility is also available there.
Keep the necessary water and food with you as there is no snacks shops are available inside the dam premises.
Entrance is fee is 5rs per head and 20 rs for mobile photography.

Nice visit in this dam at this time we were seen only less water over here. Good construction and maintenance inside dam park area we had some fun and other play activities also. We spent more time with family in their park, fun area, dam upper area. Location around dam was very good and naturally with coconut trees.

Taking pictures above this dam is beautiful one
Highly recommended to visit in the evening or at noon end like 3PM IST so that one can experience beautiful views during sunset.
These Backdrop hills are mesmerizing to view.

The best view of nature. The walk on the dam is really good experience. Nice place to spend time with family and friends, though in summer it can be tiring. You can enjoy the long walk across the park. There is a children's park as well for the kids, in a corner which usually opens around the evening.

Loved it. The arrangements were all so perfect that would give you a 3 star hotel's feel.
The forest department has been doing a great work.
Only thing that they need to change/arrange is, about the vehicle for safari. Not all the tourist come with an SUV or a off-road drivable vehicle.
So either they need to inform the tourist in advance or they should arrange some vehicle that can be taken off road inside forest.

Good room for a jungle resort, carry your own toiletries. Food quality is good ,only served as per head count from their own menu.
shivaprakash sarangu — Google review
Amazing experience!
I honestly didn't expect the hospitality, the food or the wilderness experience to be of that level. I was pleasantly surprised at how well curated it all is.
Right from the get go, a guide is assigned to you. This guide will be along with you during the safari, next day's early morning Trek and the bamboo rafting experience.
The guides only speak Tamil or Malayalam but are very knowledgeable and courteous.
The stay- it is well maintained, comfortable and the rooms are huge.
Food- There isn't a restaurant and it isn't A la carte but depending on your preference, they serve really tasty food in a buffet setting.
I am already planning my next trip!🙂

Awesome experience. Pristine forest areas and a very novel adventure. The guides and the hospitality people are from the local tribal areas making it one wholesome experience with lots of wild life and birds.

A good forest area fir outdoor activities, but facilities for stay arrangement etc needs improvement es po especially in maintenance. Easier facilitation after online booking to be introduced instead of chevking and vrrify in multiple points.

Good stay with family . If you're going with friends book some other cottage. If you are lucky we can see wild animals . We saw wild elephant in honeycomb itself at midnight around 3am . So close

Rooms are clean, well maintained and hygienic. Food was homely. Scenic location. Monkeys around, so please stay safe. No network except bsnl, no wifi, we enjoyed the mobile free experience with no contact with outside world. Trek, safari with guide in our vehicle and bamboo rafting were all very nice. Nice place for a family stay!

Only available Air Conditioned stay available at parambikulam tiger reserve. Early booking is required.
Asif Musthafa — Google review
Well maintained stay by forest department. The package includes everything like food, guide, trekking, safari. The rooms are clean. AC and hot water are available. The staffs are mostly local people, and their behavior is so nice. Buffet food is also of good standard.
I heard some random people complaining that the room is not a standard one or don't have a rich look. But please keep in mind that this is in the middle of the forest, and there are no other accomodations available. So, obviously there will be a lot of expense to maintain these limited number of rooms. So, please don't compare this with resort stays.

Somu Subramaniam — Google review
It was a very good experience to stay in Honey comb.
We were a group of 14 adults and 7 rooms provided. Kids and infants were also there.
Rooms are equipped with AC and Water heaters.
Cleanliness was enough in the aspects of a forest stay, but not to an extent of resort.
Powercuts are usual and they have power backup. But it will run only for 6hours. Please check whether they have enough diesel for whole night while you enter for stay. They cannot arrange at night as no petrol pumps nearby. Otherwise You may have to face powercut in the night. Please carry torch lights as a must.
Only BSNL has coverage in this area and it will not work during powercuts. Wifi is there park entry after that wifi is also not available.
So you will be your own , an experience most of us are missing nowadays.
Mostquitos and other insects were very less, nevertheless carry any repellents.
Place is safe to stay in terms of wildlife movement.
Food was good and safe, staffs also very helpful and they provided all the necessary help for infants like hot water. But again don't expect a resort kind of experience. They have all the shortcomings of a government run facility.
Safari was okeyish type as animal sighting is less compared to Bandipur.
Morning trekking was an excellent experience and we could sight elephants very close and the atmosphere was just awesome.
Boat safari is also really nice, but try to start the safari as early as possible.
Highly recommended if you have kids of growing and learning age. But carry all necessary things like medicines. Small tribal hospital is nearby but for small issues like fever and so on. Or they will shift you to Pollachi in an ambulance.
One more suggestion Tented Niche stay is also good, as they travel back from Parambikulam to anapady in late evening after safari. You have more chances of animal sighting.

Eravikulam National Park is a picturesque natural area filled with wild goats and lush greenery. Visitors can take a bus up the mountain to enjoy the stunning views. The park is famous for its Neelakurinji flowers which bloom once every 12 years, creating a breathtaking dance of colors. The purple flowers cover the valley while the hills turn green and blue, stretching out into the distance.
Best scenic view of Munnar hill from top. It cost 200 per person which is more worthy . Bus ride with scenic beauty of tree plantations. Then hill trek for 2-3 km with spectacular view and Thar . It will take around 2-3 hrs to cover all by taking pictures . Must visit place.

it's a popular spot if you are in Munnar area to visit. it is a protected area. We have to take the national park bus from the foot hills to get to the park.
The main attraction is the Nilgiri Thar which is very similar to Goat and is a species near extinction.
The ride to the hills is amazing, you go through the tea gardens and then transition to forest area. There is a waterfall as well on the way.
Lot of opportunities to get great photo.
Praveen Udagatti — Google review
Visiting this place was an absolutely wonderful experience. The view was nothing short of mesmerizing, with lush green hills stretching as far as the eye could see. Particularly during the rainy season, the sight of clouds intermingling with gentle rays of sunlight created a captivating panorama that one simply cannot afford to miss.
To reach the top, we had the option of availing the national park vehicle, which required a fee of 200 per person. This vehicle conveniently dropped us off at the designated point, from where we embarked on a scenic walk towards the summit. The walking path was well-maintained, ensuring a pleasant journey. Additionally, for those seeking a more convenient option, an e-vehicle service was available. However, it's worth noting that opting for the e-vehicle would incur additional charges.
In conclusion, the experience of visiting this place was truly memorable. The breathtaking view of the hills and surrounding greenery, particularly during the rainy season, was awe-inspiring. While the journey to the top involved either a picturesque walk or an optional e-vehicle ride at an extra cost, the overall experience was well worth it. I highly recommend making a visit to this remarkable destination.

Worth to visit and good place for kids. We enjoyed the bus ride and the trekking. We could see how the weather is changing once trekked to top. Enjoyed!

A must visit place for nature enthusiastic peeps...They would charge 200 per head for the bus ride to the foot of the hills and we need to climb from there...The roads are tarred enough and local people also use this road...There in an option for buggy car which will take beyond the bus point till the top of the hills...Climate is moderate but getting hotter now a days...They have a hygienic canteen and a virtual reality studio of the park at the entrance area..Safer for children's also but not advisable for people with heart issues as you need to climb the hills...

1. Book online but even after booking online you have to stand in another queue to collect a hard copy. Defeats the purpose of online booking.
2. Lot of parking space but still gets full.
3. Come early. Better reach by 8.
4. Tea, light snacks available.
5. Toilet available.
6. A van will take you inside.
7. 1 km hike. Very easy.
8. Great view. Be patient. You will see the Nilgiri Tahr.

The vistas and views are wonderful, but otherwise not very much to do. Everything can be done within about an hour, including the bus ride up and walk to the top of the mountain. A little pricey for for nationals. The private tour is likely better, but it costs quite a bit. There are some great waterfalls. Not much beyond the views. Not great for young kids. Excellent for photographers and nature lovers.

This place is so amazing and its a gateway to heaven. You can find stunning views and natural flora and fauna. The entry ticket costs you 200 but its worth for the hospitality they provide.
You can spend atleast 3 hours and surround yourself with clouds and fog.

Such a calm and serene place to visit, you have to park the vehicle at their parking area which is free of cost, have to pay for entry tickets and wait for their bus. They will take us on a bus to the top, from there you walk up the limit or pay for a golf cart which takes us to and fro. No food items are allowed, they will search our bags, there are small cafeteria nearby and a Soveuneir shop, where u can buy things. After enjoying the nature you can get down and wait for the bus.
N. B: Ticket counters are quite busy during peak time of season

It's a well-maintained national park for the rare wild goat species called 'varayadu.' The journey takes you through the tea plantations, offering great views of the mountains and the valley, as well as the tea plantations. Buses are available for pick-up and drop-off in the middle of the park, and from there, you can walk to reach the peak or the end of the park. Tickets can be booked online. You can see Tahrs roaming around without causing any harm. It's a beautiful place to take pictures and enjoy a happy day here. 🌄💓

Nature is a source of beauty and inspiration for many people. It offers a variety of landscapes, colors, sounds and smells that can enrich our lives and stimulate our senses. We booked entrance tickets online , so the visit was smooth, no waiting in the line. There are frequent shuttles that take us to the reserved national park area from the entrance. We can see tea plantations and views on the way. The National park has coffee stalls, food and a gift shop. Unfortunately we couldn't see any tahr goats during our visit.
Ramarajan Subburaj — Google review
The view is the most amazing part of the location - most picturesque view of munnar tea plantations and forest.
The Nilgiri tahr were there but no other wilderness was visible, due to the loud crowd and limited area access, making it almost zoo-like, and animals afraid to come out near the pedestrian paths.

Beautiful national park highly recommend it. It's a lovely trek and seeing almost extinct Indian mountain goats is just special. Please note I would get there early maybe as soon as they open otherwise there are huge cues.

Very good. Must visit 👍
The dam looks like a beautiful lake.
You can enjoy a 15-minute long motor-boat ride in the lake, or just shoot memorable pics along its banks.
I first visited this lake in 2005. Now in June 2023, I feel that the water was more pristine in 2005 than what it is now.
Maybe something has changed, or maybe it was a different season when I visited for the first time. I don't remember the exact date of the first visit.

Our visit to Mattupetty Dam near Munnar was an extraordinary experience, heightened by the dramatic moment when the dam was opened. Witnessing the water unleash its power in a ferocious display was both exhilarating and a testament to the force of nature. The added spectacle of a rainbow catching the light at just the right angle, creating a breathtaking view against the backdrop of the water, was an unforgettable sight.
Choosing to visit before noon was a wise decision, allowing us to enjoy the spectacle without the discomfort of the midday heat. A tip for future visitors: a cap is advisable to protect against the sun, enhancing the comfort of your visit. Overall, it was a splendid experience.

The surroundings are beautiful to explore. You can get down at any of the spots surrounding the areas for a short visit.
Near the dam entrance they provide paddle boat ride.
There is nothing very special about this place. It has the beauty of Munnar like all other places over there. Boating could add value to the trip. But we couldn't try it due to tile limitation. A drive to the Top station is a must for Munnar visitors. You could enjoy his place during that drive.

One of the famous place to visit in Munnar. You can walk through the dam and enjoy the scenic beauty of nature. But you have to be careful while walking as vehicles are allowed to drive over the dam.
There are lots of shops where you can buy snacks and drinks for refreshments. But there is no washroom facility nearby

Title: Scenic Beauty and Serenity at Mattupetty Dam!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review:
My visit to Mattupetty Dam in Munnar was a delightful experience that left me mesmerized by its scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings. I would rate it four stars for its natural charm and the serenity it offers.
Mattupetty Dam is located amidst the picturesque landscapes of Munnar, offering stunning views of the surrounding hills and the vast reservoir. The sight of the clear blue waters against the backdrop of lush greenery is truly captivating. It's a perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts to capture the beauty of Munnar.
The dam itself is well-maintained and offers a pleasant walk along its length. Walking along the dam and feeling the gentle breeze on my face was a refreshing experience. The peaceful ambiance and the sound of the water flowing added to the overall serenity of the place.
Boating on the reservoir is a popular activity at Mattupetty Dam. I took a boat ride and enjoyed the peaceful cruise, taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding hills. It's a great way to get closer to nature and appreciate the vastness of the reservoir. However, I would suggest checking the availability of boating in advance, as it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons.
There are also some scenic trails and viewpoints near the dam, offering panoramic vistas of the tea gardens and mountains. Exploring these trails and enjoying the breathtaking views was a highlight of my visit. It's a paradise for nature enthusiasts and hikers.
One aspect that could be improved is the availability of facilities and amenities. There are limited food and refreshment options near the dam, so it's advisable to carry water and snacks. Additionally, the restroom facilities could be better maintained.
Overall, Mattupetty Dam is a beautiful destination that showcases the natural splendor of Munnar. Its scenic beauty, peaceful ambiance, and opportunities for boating and hiking make it a worthwhile visit. While some improvements in facilities would enhance the experience, it remains a must-visit spot for those seeking tranquility and stunning views in Munnar. I would highly recommend a visit, and I rate it four stars for its natural charm and serene atmosphere.

The views are a bit blocked by the safety gates, many people roaming around and many stalls organized around. There is no proper place from where you can sit, relax and enjoy the view. Also the dam itself is not open for visiting. Still a lovely place to see.

The boat rides are fun and let you soak in the stunning scenery. Plus, there are nice spots to sit and relax, making it a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Overall, it's a lovely place to visit if you're in Munnar, especially for nature lovers!

This is just an amazing view to see with our eyes.
First of all we don't even have to buy any tickets for seeing this amazing dam, the road is over the dam, while travelling you can see both side , One side is the dam gate and the other is just an amazing valley ( lake surrounded by mountains).
While day time, the water is just amazing to see, the lights are reflected so nicely and the area is just amazing.
I would recommend you to park your vehicle nearby and walk over the road to get the best experience, they do have a boat service.
Once you cross the road, you can get a small path which leads to an amazing near-view of the dam gate which is mostly open all the time. But you should be careful while walking through there as the area may be slippery. Apparently there is a stair to below , unfortunately for our safety it's not open for visitors.
I would recommend you to go here while visiting Munnar.
This dam is located in between the way you go to the eco point.
Thank You.

Awesome place for kids. This kids park and boating area is located about 0.5 km from Bhoothathankettu dam. Entry fee is Rs. 50/- and extra for some other activities such as boating, kids cart etc, rain forest pool etc. The entire area is cleanly maintained and sufficient staff is available for assisting the visitors. All activities are organised in such a way that they are very safe for little ones. The park has a small cafeteria inside that serves soft drinks, snacks etc. Overall a very refreshingly nice place for kids and family to spend 2-3 hours. Highly recommended.

Seems to be a good place for kids. We visited on Dec 2023 and was not fully in operation. Lots of works were going on. Boating and other water activities were not there while we visited.

Jungle Park is located on the Kothamangalam-Idamalayar road side. It’s 600 metres away from the Bhoothathankettu Dam. It is a small park. Though the park is mainly meant for kids, there are some items for the elders to play with such as badminton. There are many battery operated cars, bikes and pedal cars also available for kids. There is an area earmarked for the exclusive use of these toys. There is a small swimming pool with fountain type water inlet. Another attraction for kids is the spiral slide with water sprinklers. There are ample seating also available. Pedal boats are also available.

Good..Neat and clean, Lake side view park.
More riding activities are there in the park.
STEJI K C — Google review
A small park very well recommended for children especially btwn the age of 3 to 10. There parents also can feel free they have activities like pedal boating, kayaking, water rollers etc. The park is very calm and cool, me and my family entered the park during a visit to bhoodathankettu, though it was a very sunny day after entering the park u feel refreshed even at hot midday.
Pros
Staff are friendly
Climate inside park is very cool
Water is very clean and cold
Less crowded (Saturday noon around 12 to 1 PM)
On road side, really a pitstop point to get refreshed.
Toilet very neat and tidy
Cons
You have to pay additional fees other than the entry fee of Rs: 50/-, for other activities inside the park which feels a bit unethical (trampoline, adventure activities).
The available restaurant is shaving only lite snacks no meals or heavy food available nowadays (maybe bcoz of less crowd due to corona).
Adventure activities are not well maintained ,not sure if they can be utilised. Like obstacle run, horizontal bridge, etc.
If that too get a proper maintenance the park will be a destination for all age of people.
Conclusion
A destination which can be considered as a pitstop for those how are going to bhoodathankettu.

Liked it here.. good place to take your kids out. I went with my parents and my niece. She really enjoyed it here.. There are multiple small rides for kids, Dora room , darts, hill climbing, 2 wheel scooter for kids, basketball, badminton racquet ( not in good shape though).. Park is beside periyar river and it looks beautiful. Overall a good place to spend time with kids and family . Jungle park is a nice addition to bhuthathankettu.

A small park located on the way to bhoothathankettu. Specifically for small kids there are plenty of materials for kids to play such as swings, small cars, other activities etc.
The park is just close to the river and we can see the beautiful view from the park and some chairs are also available to sit and spend evening with kids.
The park not crowded most of the times.
No dedicated Parking space available but still there is lots of parking space available outside close to the road.

A small park to have enjoyable with your kids and family. You have to pay additional fees other than the entry fee of 50 Rs., for paddle boating and small adventures.
The Jungle park is not crowded, it offers you unlimited fun and thrill with Tree adventure rides, Go-carts, Caves, Trampolines, swings, slides, a pool, rain forest, Bamboo rafts, Kayaking, Kottavanchi, paddle boating, fishing, kids play zone, fun games, treehouse, restaurant, and Ice cream parlor, etc. But the activities are not well maintained. Some of the rides are not working.

Old Bhoothathankettu Dam, Kothamangalam - Idamalayar Road, Kerala 686681, India
The Tea Museum is a small but informative museum that showcases the history and production of tea through old machinery, photographs, and demonstrations. Visitors should not miss the 30-minute documentary about the region's tea plantations, which is shown in a room with a projector. The factory visit is also important to learn about how CTC tea is made, with staff on hand to explain everything.
How this does not have more higher rating I don't no. This place is educational, shows you the history, there is a video showing theatre style, then a tour around the factory you can taste touch and smell the tea in different stages of production. Afterwards you can taste all the teas they sell before buying
Michael Ireland — Google review
It was a good place but maybe only for tea lovers.
They showed a movie about how tea plantation started in kerala and how the industry got a boost then they showed some old machines which were used to crush tea leaves and explained how it works.
After that they send you to the shop where all their products are available with brand name " Ripple Tea "
They have black tea, green tea, white tea and ice tea.
Sanjay Manik — Google review
Museum houses a gallery of antiques / paintings dating a century back and traversing through the Tea evolution all through the years. They had a short film screened on the history of the facility and tea making in Munnar in general. There is a tea making tour showcasing the steps involved. Tea can be purchased and there are a variety of the same, didn't like the flavours though ! The journey to the Tea Museum and the estate surrounding makes it a pleasant sight to behold. Ample parking facility available and minimal entry charges .
Prakhar Nigam — Google review
For those who don't know anything about the tea plant or tea making process, this place would be a great place of knowledge. They portrayed many items which have some historic value. They will show the function of machinery i.e., the process of making tea and playing a documentary which is based on the lifestyle of tea planters.
All is ok, but the entry fee is too high. At this price, the museum should be more organised and the guided tour should be more catching and exciting. Guides are mainly trying to convince you to buy tea packets from an outlet which is inside the museum. Even at the documentary show, if you are going late, then you might not get any chair to sit on. The items also need maintenance.

A simple tea museum in Munnar showing the history to tea cultivation in the location. Many artifacts of tea cultivation is preserved and well maintained. A documentary on the history of tea cultivation in Munnar is shown. Later , avery short tour on the manufacturing of tea piwder using CTC method is demonstrated. No tea tasting is present , however one can buy few cups of tea from the counter , and also tea packets from the shop present inside.
Entry ticket is ₹125 per adult.

Great place! They explain in detail about the whole tea making process. It's really fun to see the machines. We also bought a few teas from them and they taste amazing.
It was nice to see how something we use in our daily routines is made. Developed a new appreciation for tea.
They also show you how each machine works, and what is the end product obtained after each processing step.
The parking is free. There is sufficient space.
The entry fee is Rs.125 per person. They charge Rs.120 separately for tea tasting
Nawal AbdulKareem — Google review
Don't miss the documentary to understand the history of tea plantations in this region. Around 30 mins movie. The movie is shown in a room with projector. Around 40 people can be seated. This may require some waiting for the next show to begin.
Museum is very small... Just 3 rooms.
The factory visit is very important to know how the CTC tea is made. Staff will explain everything.
There is a shop to buy gifts, magnets, different varieties of tea, spices, fruit reserve etc etc. Small cafe also provides tea.
The was a tea tasting option for additional 120₹ but unfortunately it was unavailable on the day I went.
Enough parking space is available.

Museum is divided into old exhibition and the production part. The exhibition should be renovated because the objects thus interesting could be much better presented. Part of the exhibition is a cinema hall which I’ve missed cause of lack of time. The production part is a real highlight here - staff is presenting how do they process picked tea leaves. Astonishing views all around the place.

Good place to see old equipments used by Britishes for making Tea from leafs.

Just a waste of money. All they show is a movie about how Britishers started tea plantations blah blah and they charge you 125 per person. Not at all worth going inside, but I must say the view outside the tea museum is amazing which is obviously free of cost. So instead of wasting money inside use your valuable money and time outside enjoying the view

Good place to go with your kids and family. In this museum you can know about some historical events and history behind this tea factory.
The ticket is 120 per person and you need to pay an extra 20 for the camera.

You can buy any flavours of tea here. Masala tea and ice tea black are recommended.

The entry ticket is 125 rupees per adult. Inside you can see some history photos and tea powder preparation from leaves stage to powder stage. They will show you a documentary which tells about the history of tea which can be skipped. There is a tea counter which had many varieties of tea, the taste is average. The outlet sells different tea powders, chocolates, spices etc. This place can be skipped if you don't want to purchase tea powder. Time and money can be saved by skipping this museum. Outside the museum there is a tea plantation available.
ASHOK KUMAR ALLU — Google review
I found the museum’s exhibits to be somewhat lacking in terms of interactivity and engagement. While the information provided was educational, the presentation could have been more captivating. I would have appreciated more interactive displays or multimedia elements to enhance the overall experience.
Another aspect that could be improved upon is the organization of the museum. The flow of the exhibits felt a bit disjointed, and it was sometimes challenging to follow the chronological order of the tea-making process. A clearer layout or guided tour could have helped visitors better navigate and understand the exhibits.

Tea museum is a nice spot to understand the history of Munnar & evolution of tea plantations & all. A short movie is showing regarding this. Museum have lot of antique collections. We can see the processing of tea unit & well explained by the staffs. We can shop different varieties of tea from here. Car parking available. Washrooms available. Enter with tickets.
Nishad Nalakath — Google review
For those who do not know how tea is prepared, it is the perfect place. You are first directed to a video show which gives details of history of TATAs. No details of tea manufacturing were shown. Only the corporate presentation about the company was boring. You can skip it comfortably. It is better to go directly to the live demonstration of running machinery of tea manufacturing. It was too crowded when we visited. The upstairs lecture is also good. Then you are directed to the tea shop and tea testing area.

It has a tea museum to give us the knowledge of tea factory initiative
Dr. Preeti Shukla — Google review
The museum is pretty basic and we were rushed through each step. In my opinion 125/head entry fee is little bit high. They show a 30min documentary which was okay and the tea making process which was interesting. Since there isn’t much to do in Munnar, you could spend some time here. They also have a wide range of teas that you can shop from at a decent price.
anoop vijayan — Google review
The museum is small, but OK. There is also a 30 minute video that's not bad. Then there's the tour of the factory, where tea processing is explained. That's nice. It ends with a big tea shop. If you've always wondered about tea processing and types, this is your chance.

Tea lovers and the tea making curiosity folks would love this place. Visit takes about 45mins (including 30mins history show). Plenty of parking and toilets located outside of the museum. Souvenirs, spices, various tea flavors available for sale at the end of the tour.

The team museum is a good place to spend not more than 30-45 mins. There is ample parking space and there are chargeable entry and parking tickets.
They have a show on how tea is made for about an hour and then a factory visit to show how tea is made from tea plants in real life.
Apart from that, there is nothing really there to explore in the museum.
P.S. You can buy tea packets from the museum after the factory visit.

Good place to understand how tea leaves are yielded, and the process from drying of the leaves till making the tea powder. The guide there explains in 3 different languages (English, Hindi and Malayalam). One can shop for tea powders, chocolates, safron, spices etc. Entry ticket is Rs.125 per person which I think is high. For tea taste learning, they charge Rs.120 separately. There's free parking available at this tea museum.

We spent several very interesting hours watching the process to give everyone their cup of tea!
Firstly there is a film which gives the background history. The set up which is a village of workers and includes hospital, Nursery, school and housing. A job for life !
The tea gardens are all around, miles and miles of small hills covered in tea. It is a very skilful job knowing which leaf to take.
We went around the factory seeing the processes involved. The staff showing us fiercely proud.
At the end we had a cup of tea of course and just like theme parks the obligatory shop on the way out!

Munnar's tea gardens are a world by themselves. One can see the rolling tea gardens on the verdant hillsides of Munnar for miles and miles...
There are visits arranged by the local gardens for visitors and also tea tasting and sampling
One can purchase tea leaves at reasonable prices...
The local guides will arrange these visits and also a tour around Munnar so that one can have a close-up as well distant and bird's-eye views from distant hilltops
A visit to Munnar only for a tour of the tea gardens is worth a decade or more of memories...
Apart from the tea gardens Munnar also has several other delightful attractions that I've chronicled elsewhere...

It is a beautiful waterfalls on the way to Munnar, approximately 40km before the Munnar. The picturesque landscape and cascading water falling from the top of the mountains make it a wonderful place to explore. The beautiful view of the waterfall and its surroundings make it an ideal location for photography. With its unique beauty, this waterfall must be visited if you are around this area. People are not allowed to play near waterfalls due to safety reasons.

Beautiful waterfall on the way to Munnar from Cochin. Ample opportunity to get wonderful photos. The falls is fenced and hence you can't play in the falls but safer this way in my opinion.
You will get vendors who will take a photo ond give instant print of photo.
Small Shop for eatable

One of the favorite pit stops on the way to Munnar. The waterfall is amazing as there are several decks for the water to fall from the heights. It is commendable that recently the tourism department has provided a toilet facility for the visitors. Even bus passengers can enjoy the falls as there is a KSTRC stop.

Amazing waterfall by the road to Munnar. Lots of vendors and people. Several very cheeky monkeys. Maybe don't get too close or give them snacks.

This waterfall is located on Cochin - Munnar highway and approx. 40km before Munnar. We visited during December and as expected the water levels were not that heavy but surely you will enjoy time by getting your selfies clicked and also enjoying yummy and tatay road side food sold by vendors. This place will get crowded during holiday seasons and when during high water flow.
People are not allowed to play near waterfalls due to saftey reasons. You can spend time for approx. 15-30 mns depending on your interest.

Awesome, very tall waterfall. There is a guy with a camera who takes photos and basically prints them to you for Rs 50 per photo. The digital version is not available. There is a street shop that sells items that are put inn vinegar, warning that there are monkeys there , so be cautious while handling phone bags cameras, etc

When visiting Fort Kochi in South India, be sure to take in the mesmerizing sight of the Chinese Fishing Nets. These iconic nets, suspended from tall bamboo frames, have been a symbol of Kerala's colonial legacy for over 500 years. They are particularly captivating against the backdrop of the setting sun and are a popular subject for photographs and postcards.
This is a unique place in cochin beside the Arabian sea where you will find fisherman catch fish and sells hear or nearby market. Now a days it becomes a tourist activity where they will explain the activity and you got chance to fishing with them. They will show you how in older days they manually use the net. Now a days motor is used for the operation . In return of your experience they ask tip.
Shyam — Google review
Nice to visit, especially early in the morning when the fishermen are out with their boats or just fishing with nets from the shore. The fresh fish gets sold on the spot, some stands will even make a dish out of it for you. Its also a nice walk on the shore.
joris v — Google review
The Chinese Fishing Nets at Fort Kochi is a must visit attraction in Kerala. These are fixed land installations, used for fishing in a unique method. These nets are fixed on bamboo and teak poles holding it horizontally by huge mechanisms so as to pull them down into the sea. These nets are weighed by large stones tied to ropes.
Operated by a team of six fishermen, the height of the Chinese fishing nets is around 10 meters, each sprawling to 20 meters over the water body. Each net has a fixed operating depth and due to this a net cannot be repeatedly worked in tidal waters. There are different fishing nets for operation which are based on the state of the tide.
Ramana Muddada — Google review
Nice place to take photos and it looks beautiful in photos.
Best photos are not from the fishing net platform, but from a distance so you may avoid walking on the platform which you need to pay up after the visit.
When you visit, there would be some not so clean area, and smell of fish being sold may not be appealing to people who are not used to and vegetarian kind.
Sudershan Singh Gusain — Google review
I recently visited the Chinese fishing nets in Fort Kochi and was struck by the beautiful views and historic atmosphere. The fishing nets themselves were an interesting and unique sight to see, and it was fascinating to watch the fishermen at work.
However, I was disappointed to see that the area was not as clean as I would have liked. There was a significant amount of litter and debris scattered throughout the area, which detracted from the overall beauty of the place.
Overall, while the Chinese fishing nets in Fort Kochi are a beautiful and historic attraction, I would recommend taking steps to ensure that the area is kept clean in order to fully enjoy the experience.

The Chinese Fishing Nets in Fort Kochi are a must-see for any visitor to Kerala. These massive nets, which are suspended from tall bamboo frames and are lowered into the water by hand. The fishermen then use a pulley system to raise the nets, which are often filled with fish. It is a fascinating sight to see and a great way to learn about traditional fishing methods.
In addition to being a fascinating example of traditional fishing, the Chinese Fishing Nets also offer stunning views of the surrounding area. From here, you can see the bustling port of Kochi, as well as the many ships ⛴️ and boats that ply the waters of the Arabian Sea🌊.
The Chinese Fishing Nets are a great place to spend an afternoon 🌅. They are free to visit, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby where you can enjoy a delicious meal.
Here are some of the things you can do at the Chinese Fishing Nets:
Watch the fishermen operate the nets 🎣
Take photos of the nets and the surrounding area
Learn about the history of the nets
I highly recommend visiting the Chinese Fishing Nets if you are in Fort Kochi. They are a fascinating and beautiful sight.

Located in the banks of kochi beach..you cannot get the full view of the fishing nets as you see in the google photos. Its very crowded in the evening but a good time to spend on a sunset. If you want to see the mechanism of the fishing nets then you have to visit early in the mornings.

Nice place with fantastic beach view. You can view most of the ships from the Indian navy fleet crossing this section. The Chinese fishing nets are awesome to see.
Plenty of platform ships available for lemon juice and snacks.
Sasikumar Gunasekaran — Google review
There are around 10-12 Chinese Fishing Nets on the Walkway. But the place is not very clean and to go and see from near you have to shed some bucks.
The Nets are raised and lowered depending on the tides and later the catch is put for Auction and we can buy from there if you want.
But overall the place has to be raised to next level to meet the standard and keep it tidy and clean , as this is the face of Fort Kochi and one of the iconic spots on the island.

A good place to watch how nets were put in older times and even now to catch fish. The place is a large walking area in one straight stretch. With people selling various snacks and food items.

It’s very pretty and also functional, you can see people fishing there throughout the day, I spent some time with them and saw the nets in action.
Also a different spot for sunset, the people are so sweet , they will welcome you and explain as well

An interesting way of fishing which I had never seen before anywhere.
Also you have a lot of souvenir shops all along the beach.
Though this beach means business and it’s not at all for bathing etc as it’s quite smelly and dirty.
Come here in early morning to click some nice lifetime clicks!
Sarhad Choudhary — Google review
December 2023:
Really dirty area. Needs to be maintained better... And be aware that the fishermen will allow you to come onto their net platforms very willingly, but then they will be extremely angry if you don't give them a hefty payment/baksheesh for it. Better stay off the fishing-net platforms if you don't want to part with money over it!
GoVeg SaveAnimals — Google review
It could be a stunning place but its a rubbish dip 😭😭😭.
Certainly an interesting place regarding the history but a shame that they don't look after it. You get some nice views from the beach when you pass piles of rubbish and fishing boats.
The Chinese fishing nets are believed to have been introduced in Kochi by Chinese explorer Zheng He, from the court of the Kubla Khan. The fishing net established itself on the Kochi shores between 1350 and 1450 AD.

This is very famous spot to capture the image of chinese fishing net so the do this twice the day one in morning 8-10 am and in the evening 5-6 pm they charge 100rs per person to watch this fishing thing closely

It is near the fort kochi beach. These fishing nets are in back waters. It is bit crowded in evening. Visit in mornings to know working and to avoid crowds. But evening you can enjoy sunsets.
These are said to be introduced in Kochi by Chinese explorer Zheng He, from the court of the Kubla Khan. The fishing net established itself on the Kochi shores between 1350 and 1450 AD.
Each fishing net is operated by more than four fishermen and is made in such a way that the weight of a man walking on the main plank is enough to cause the equipment to be pulled down into the sea.

The Kerala Kathakali Centre, established in 1990 in Kochi, is dedicated to promoting and preserving the traditional arts of Kerala. The center showcases masked Kathakali dance performances and martial arts demonstrations, aiming to elevate the standards of training and performances through rigorous discipline. Additionally, it encourages various traditional arts and rituals. Visitors can witness daily Kathakali shows with makeup demonstrations beforehand, as well as Indian classical music performances in the evenings.
It does not get more authentic than this. An absolute must visit when in Cochin. A unique art form from Kerala region that gets explained quite well, together with a short show. You will only appreciate this art form even more.
Message them for available shows, they respond well.

What can I really say about the performance!! Since make up session till the end I just sit tight at one place. The theatre hall, the ambience, the decoration, the music, the dance... Each and everything was so perfect. The elaborate discussion on make up ingredients and characterizations was so informative. I enjoyed, actually overjoyed while watching such a performance by the artists. It was awesome. This performance should be a must watching item while planning the Kerala trip.

Most reviews here seem to be about kathakali. But I want to add a note that the classical indian music performances are also incredible! Top tear artists from around south India performing beautiful raga improvisations, every night except Saturdays 8-9pm. Each day is different (me my partner and my friends have already been to 3 amazing performances, and we’re not done), and definitely recommend checking this out too!

Experience the captivating Kathakali dance, a traditional art form from Kerala, India. Its distinctive facial expressions and movements are truly mesmerizing, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The traditional makeup, crafted from coconut and natural pigments, adds to the allure of the performance.
The storyline, narrated through the graceful movements, revolves around a king expressing his emotions through a golden swan. The first act unveils the tale of the king and the swan, while the latter part delves into the king's affection for a woman, all depicted through captivating expressions, gestures, and movements. It's a delightful spectacle where emotions come alive through the art of storytelling. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Definitely the highlights of my Kochi trip. They provide demonstration of the nine expressions and key mudras, plus the scripts, so that we can follow the actual performance of the short play better. The martial arts performance is also excellent. We want to see the third performance of classical Indian music but it’s cancelled that day because of the pandemic and drastic decrease of tourists. Please don’t miss this place when you are in the area. It’s also recommended to go early to see how they put on makeup.

Great experience and your money goes towards keeping the Centre open (they do other types of performances). It was nice to watch the makeup application process and learn the history behind Kathakali. A must visit place. The show begins with the makeup of the artists and then they showcase what are the expressions and hand gestures for different emotions. Last part is they enact a small story. The whole experience is so good that you can actually see the hardwork and the cultural creativity.

This place was easily the highlight of our 3-day stay in Fort Kochi. We visited it on all 3 days, attending the South Indian classical music, North Indian classical music, Kathakali, Odissi dance and Kalaripayattu martial art performances. Every single performance was simply outstanding. Huge respect for all performers and for Mr. Sujeendran, who comperes for the whole set of performances as well as lends his voice to the Kathakali performance.
The performances are held 365 days a year. While the Kathakali performance was houseful, the classical music performances sadly had very low attendance. Despite there being only 3 members in the audience, the performers performed just as they would for a houseful attendance - a clear sign of love for their art.
The set-up is a rather non-descript building that is not obvious from outside, but is actually quite a big auditorium on the inside.
I would strongly recommend attending all 5 performances on different days, and supporting the center and the preservation of these wonderful forms of Indian art.
Vishwa Mukhtyar — Google review
The Kathakali show in Kochi is a total must-do! Super impressed with how they've not only preserved the art but also introduced it to tourists through a thoughtfully crafted show. It's a brilliant initiative to keep this cultural art alive and thriving!

From outside its easy to miss this spot. You have to walk through some narrow and dark lanes to reach the auditorium.
The artists showcase the entire makeup process, followed by a small skit. The audi and stage have a very ancient vibe, keeping true to the original art.
Tip - While booking, insist on seats ahead. For some reason when we went all foreigners were allotted seats in the front and locals were seated at the back.
Cost - Rs.500 per ticket

We went to see Kathakali and stayed for the Martial Arts and South Indian Classical music performances too and it was absolutely worth it! You can't come to Kerala without seeing Kathakali and this is the best place for it! You also don't wanna miss the classical music performance, as you can learn so much about Indian music - and it's very fun and engaging! Martial arts were also stunning, very fun for kids too! The price is very cheap considering what you get to see, and the owner is so knowledgeable, passionate and full of joy!

Easily my most favorite experience in Fort Kochi and something which is unmissable for anyone visiting this place.
Located in proximity to all tourist attractions, schedule 2 hours in the evening specifically for this place. Trust me you will not regret it.
At a very affordable price, you will get to experience the beautiful artform of Kathakali, it starts off with a demonstration of how the performers apply the unique make up, the various expressions and steps in Kathakali followed by a performance of a mythological story. I was enthralled and left speechless by the end of the performance.
This is followed by a brilliant performance of Kerala Martial arts, how they train and apply their skills.
Support this endeavor and encourage local artforms. Do visit this place without fail

Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, is a Kerala-style palace with a rich history. Originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1555 and later renovated by the Dutch in 1663, it stands as a significant historical landmark in Kerala. The palace features exquisite architecture, artifacts, and paintings that depict scenes from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Located in Mattancherry near the Jewish Synagogue, this beautiful palace is a must-visit for those interested in history and culture.
Beautiful painting of mythology on walls and celling, old coins, stamp, murals, sculpture will take you hundreds of years back. Actually this place is more than museum. Amazing experience after seeing the oil painting with three dimensional effect.

It's a small palace converted into a museum. It is located in the first floor and the ticket counter is available there.
The entry ticket is ₹5 per head, which is very nominal. There is a QR code outside the palace using which we can pay and get the tickets.
The interiors of the palace looks good and photogenic otherwise there is nothing much to look at this palace. There are few guides in the museum, who will explain about the palace and the kings. There is a small pond near to it which adds to the beauty. There is also a temple next to it, where only Hindus are allowed.
There is an open parking space for this palace, where we can park our vehicles.

It is not a big palace. If you have visited Padmanabhapuram palace, Mysore palace and all this one is no match compared to them. Still is a small palace with limited historical mementos, paintings, royal kingdom belongings which are kept for display. Hardly in 15-20 minutes you can visit the whole place. There aren't too much to visit. But near by this palace you will have Jew town which is a great place for shopping antique and unique products, perfumes gift articles and so on. This place is also called the 'Dutch palace' where you can experience the theme of Dutch but the artistic skills of Kerala Murali Paintings, Wood Carving, Architectural amusements here. Photography is allowed inside the palace (except for the Kerala Murali Painting Rooms). Still the place is well maintained. Though we visited in the month of March, it was too hot. Make sure to carry a water bottle and an umbrella. There are a lot of shops around this place where mostly clothing, books, arts, and figurines can be found. For me, it mostly reflected the Portuguese style of streets rather than the Dutch ones. Maybe because both ruled the place at some point of time and hence the hint of both Dutch and Portuguese.

Nestled in the historic Jew Town of Old Cochin, the Paradesi Synagogue is a significant landmark as it is the oldest among the seven synagogues in the area that are still in use. The name "Paradesi" meaning foreigners was given to it when it was built by Spanish-speaking Jews in 1567. This synagogue houses a remarkable collection of rare antique items, including copper plates from the 4th century and gold crowns gifted by local kings.

A very beautiful place to walk and take photos. Now after road maintenance work, the place is better. Jew synagogue is a must visit place as the building is a historical place and the building is still maintained very well. The cool atmosphere inside the synagogue and the centuries old building makes us feel elated. This synagogue and jew street are the trademark of kochi.

Probably the oldest synagogue in India & now cared for by the Christian church. Very busy when we visited. Nicely decorated & lovely floor tiles which all look similar but none are the same. Recommended.

This Jewish synagogue was built in 1568, almost 1500 years after the beginning of the Jewish connection with Kerala. It was built on the land, adjacent to the Mattancherry Palace, given by the erstwhile king of Cochin.
The synagogue, the oldest in the Commonwealth, was built by the Jewish community of Cochin. In 1662, it was destroyed by the Portguese and then reconstructed, two years later, by the Dutch.
Enter the synagogue and the large main hall arrests your attention with display of rare antique objects that add to the grandeur of the place. The light falling through the large open windows make the sight of chandeliers and lamps more delightful. These glass chandeliers dangling from the ceiling belong to the 19th century and were imported from Belgium.
The floor of the synagogue itself is a showpiece with the paving of hand-painted blue willow patterned floor tiles. These ceramic tiles were brought from Canton, China in the 18th century by Ezekiel Rahabi, a renowned Jewish businessman. Each tile is different from one another in its design and it never fails to capture the admiration of the visitors. The marvellous construction of the synagogue is revealed in all its features including the splendid pillars.
A pulpit with brass rails is built in the center of the room. An exclusive gallery for women with gilt columns, a carved teak ark etc can be seen in the synagogue. The teak Ark houses four scrolls of Torah (the first five books of Old Testament) and they are encased in silver and gold. Two gold crowns presented to the Jewish Community by the Kings of Kochi and Travancore are also kept here.

Inside the small n beautiful Jewish colony where you can find many beautiful small shops n cafe. But the main attraction was the oldest synagogue--Paradesi Synagogue, only synagogue in India where Jewish community worships. It was originally built for those Jews who were exiled from Spain n Portugal.
Ticket charges 10/- per adult.

About Paradesi Synagogue:
This is one of the oldest and most well-preserved synagogues in India. It was built in 1568 by the Sephardic Jews who fled the Spanish Inquisition. The synagogue is a beautiful example of Kerala's architectural style, with its distinctive wooden pillars and intricate carvings.
My experience :
Jew Town Fort Kochi is a fascinating place to visit, but the ticket counter system is poorly designed

The Paradesi Synagogue, also known as the Cochin Jewish Synagogue or the Mattancherry Synagogue (Malayalam: പരദേശി ജൂതപള്ളി), stands as a historic landmark in Jew Town, a suburb of Kochi, Kerala, India. Erected in 1568 A.D. by Samuel Castiel, David Belila, and Joseph Levi, this synagogue was a testament to the vibrant Paradesi Jewish community in Kochi, comprising both Malabari Jews and Sephardic refugees fleeing religious persecution in Spain and Portugal.
As the oldest active synagogue within the Commonwealth of Nations, Paradesi Synagogue reflects a fascinating blend of Indian and Portuguese influences. The term "Paradesi" translates to "foreigners" in several Indian languages, aptly characterizing the synagogue's builders, who were Sephardic or Portuguese-speaking Jews, some hailing from exile in Aleppo, Safed, and other West Asian locales.
Nestled in Jew Town, the synagogue is a rare operational relic among the seven synagogues in the vicinity. Although the Kadavumbhagam Synagogue (1544 A.D) and Thekkumbhagam Synagogue (1647 A.D) are older, they are no longer in use. The Paradesi Synagogue complex, comprising four buildings, shares a common wall with the Mattancherry Palace temple, emphasizing its historical and cultural significance.
The synagogue's history is intertwined with the Malabari Jews, a prosperous trading community controlling a significant portion of the global spice trade. The Paradesi Synagogue, constructed adjacent to the Mattancherry Palace in 1568, replaced the original Cochin synagogue destroyed during the Portuguese persecution in the 16th century. The present synagogue, protected by the Raja of Kochi, became a place of worship for the Sephardim and later European exiled Jews.
Visitors to this architectural marvel are greeted with a serene and beautifully maintained place. A nominal entry fee of 10 rupees is required to explore the rich history, intricate architecture, and cultural significance encapsulated within the Paradesi Synagogue. This historic gem stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Jewish community in Kochi.

Purportedly the oldest synagogue in the commonwealth. Points to the ancient history of Judaism in Kerala - which is well illustrated by a few paintings in a small room adjoining the main entrance to the synagogue complex.
Definitely worth a visit and paying the Rs 10 entry fee.

This a small synagogue built by the jews who lived here many years ago. On entering the compund, you can buy a ticket to visit the synagogue. Before the synagogue there is a small room showing the history of jews in Fort Kochi. Then you enter the synagogue.
A synagogue is a religious place for jews. They dont have a big idol of Christ. They have a podium kind of structure from where they give sermons. But since nobody visits the synagogue anymore, it is non-functional and open to visitors. The floor work, the ceilings everything was beautiful. Being there made me a little sad.

Visiting the Paradesi Synagogue in Fort Kochi was a highlight of my trip to Kochi. Built in 1568, it's a stunning example of the region's multicultural heritage. The intricate Chinese hand-painted tiles and Belgian chandeliers are breathtaking. The adjacent Jewish museum is also worth a visit, with displays of Jewish history in Kerala. It's a peaceful and serene place, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, architecture, or religious diversity.

Very good place to visit for a peace of mind.
The street which takes you inside to the Jewish synagogue is awesome with all Jewish style and painting to the walls. I have even updated pics in post check them out.
The highlight is the old click which still runs.
Inside we can see about there history and many other equipments brought by Jews way back old.
The shops outside are bit expensive as they are targeted to touristers.

Must visit if you are in Kochi. Please avoid going on Saturday as it is closed. The place has a good vibe to it and you will enjoy. We meandered through the charming byways of Jew Town to arrive at the Paradesi Synagogue, an architectural gem steeped in history. The interior is a testament to its uniqueness, evoking a profound sense of time's passage.
Visiting hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Thursday, offering ample time to immerse oneself in its rich heritage. However, on Fridays, the window narrows to 10 am to 2 pm, and regrettably, it remains closed on Saturdays.
Photography is graciously permitted within its hallowed halls, with the gentle reminder that flash photography and camera stands are regrettably not allowed, preserving the sanctity of this sacred space.
A nominal entry fee of Rs 10 per person unlocks the doors to this historical treasure trove, ensuring a memorable journey through time and culture.

Vagamon, located in the Indian state of Kerala, is a picturesque hill station and revenue village nestled within lush surroundings. The area boasts expansive tea gardens, stunning meadows, and deep ravines that contribute to its natural beauty. Visitors can admire the endless green hills, breathtaking valleys, and winding rivulets that make Vagamon a haven for nature enthusiasts.
Nestled in the serene hills of Vagamon, the Vagamon Pine Forest is a manmade forest with acres of steep slopes covered in magnificent pine trees. This pollution-free attraction offers tranquil nature walks and opportunities for photography under the towering conifers. It's also a popular spot for picnics, offering a peaceful ambiance with the soothing sound of wind.
Visit this spot in winter. Walking in pine forest in cold climate is amazing.

The pine forest with its mighty old trees was picture perfect. You should visit this place in early monsoon and late monsoon. The way the moss covers the tree trunks are something out of a fairy tale. The place has a mystic sense of beauty and adventure.
The parking is wheelchair accessible but that's it. The minute you step into the forest you gotta be able to trust your legs and lungs. The climb down is easy and fun, you could go all the way down to see the creek that flows gently right beneath. But the climb back up is bound to break those sweat glands and give your lungs a run for their money.
But don't let that keep you away from its beauty. As they say, the most beautiful places require the hardest climbs.

It's a good sight to see the pine trees in abundance. It's pretty hard to walk through the forest. It's slippery. Nothing much of an ambience. It's crowded nowadays. You can click some photos and come out that's it. My advice is not to carry camera as they charge 100 rs for camera alone whereas only 10 rs for entry. You can click pics on mobile it would be more than enough.
If you are first timer then you can spend some time sitting between the trees in some log.

Pine valley forest as it is known and called is located on the right side the road when you are nearing Vagamon when coming from Elapara. Just after the main gate of Kerala Veterinary and Livestock University is this place. There is a paid parking place or try to park along the left side of the road while coming from Elapara. There is enough parking space on the left side of the road in front of the University campus which is greenery. The entrance fee per adult is Rs. 10/-. You have to walk 200 mtrs from the entrance to reach the pine valley. There are a lot of way side shops where you can buy home made chocolates, sweets, tea dust or tea leaves etc. I suggest buy home made chocolates only after eating a piece as most of the these chocolates are not at all sweet. Mostly good for diabetes people as it is not sweet but can be eaten with the feeling it is chocolate. Inside the pine trees campus you have to walk down the hill fully covered with pine trees and so can stay out of the sun rays and heat. Better to visit during afternoon if you are on a one day tour as it gives relief from the hot sun which you experience visiting the Vagamon meadows and Thangalpara etc. If you are visiting Vagamon on a one day tour or plan to leave Vagamon via Elapara towards the end of the day I advice to visit Pine Valley towards the end of the sightseeing as from pine valley you can leave directly to Elapara. There is a Kudumbasree Hotel at the entrance of pine valley where you can get homely food at moderate prices. Happy sightseeing

I recently had the pleasure of going on an elephant ride and experiencing an elephant bath and feeding session, and it was an incredible and unforgettable experience. The interaction with these majestic creatures allowed me to connect with nature in a unique and meaningful way.
It was an incredible opportunity to witness the beauty of nature up close and personal.
After the ride, I had the chance to engage in an elephant bath and feed, which was equally as amazing. Getting into the water with these magnificent animals was both thrilling and humbling. Watching them happily splash around and play in the water was a joy to behold.
Feeding the elephants was another highlight of the experience. Being able to offer them their favorite treats and seeing their appreciation and gratitude was heartwarming. It was incredible to witness their intelligence and gentle nature as they carefully took the food from my hand. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

There are 4 female elephants at Elephant Junction which were rescued from circus and are now taken care at this facility. They offer elephant ride - which is a short 20-25mins ride through the plush cardamom plantations. They also have an option to bath the elephant and have a bath with the elephant. What I specifically liked about this place is that they always give priority to the animals and not the tourists. All these animals are well taken care of at this facility. The Mudra Cultural Centre is just a short walk away and the Kalari show was well worth seeing. Five stars for the Kalari show, although the Kathakali show was not as impressive. Well done to all the artists involved and I would definitely recommend people travelling to Kumily/Thekkady to see the exhibit.

My recent visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre was a fantastic experience I will always remember. The center is located in the beautiful region of Thekkady in Kerala and offers visitors the opportunity to witness Kalaripayattu or Kalari, an ancient martial art of the region. The hour-long program was both exciting and educational, and I was thoroughly impressed by the level of expertise and training that the performers displayed.
The performers showcased their incredible fitness and acrobatic abilities throughout the performance. It was remarkable to see how fast they moved, how strong they were, and how high they jumped. Every movement was executed with great precision and focus, exemplifying how well-trained the performers were in their craft. The stunts they performed were not only impressive but also fascinating as they demonstrated the central techniques of Kalaripayattu. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the show, and it was an excellent opportunity to learn about Indian martial art forms.
What made the performance even more fantastic was the participation of volunteers from the audience mid-way through the show. The performers taught the audience the basic techniques used in Kalaripayattu, which the volunteers could then use to perform a short sequence. It was a great way to engage the audience and make them an active part of the performance.
At the end of the show, the performers interacted with the audience, answering any questions we had and posing for pictures. It was great to be able to meet the talented individuals responsible for putting on such a memorable show. The performers were warm and gracious, and it was a privilege to talk to them.
Overall, my visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre was an exceptional experience. It offered me the chance to learn about Kalaripayattu, an ancient art form that I was not familiar with before. I was amazed at the dedication and skill of the performers, and it was an inspiring experience to see them perform. The participation of audience volunteers added a fun and interactive element to the show, making it all the more exciting. I would highly recommend a visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre for anyone who wants to see a unique and impressive art form up-close.

Super awesome experience of kerala heritage. Kaleri payatu was really awesome and breathtaking. I really respect the artists for their performance. They are the one who kept the haritage alive. Kalari payatu was so great. I bet we haven't seen something like that before.. it was the martial art for battle. And its the oldest form of martial arts and origin of kung fu...
The kathakali dance was very nice.. the expression of the artists are so amazing.. its the masterpiece of how we can show something with expressions..the performance was worth and i recommend people to must see it.
Ll update some pics and video of it shot on GoPro soon

Absolutely memorable cultural experience. Both Kalari and Kathakali performances were amazing. I even got to get into the Kalari arena and participate with the performers. My daughter was called on stage for Kathakali for a demo that she totally enjoyed. This was the highlight of our 4 day tour in Kerala.
Only feedback for improvement is the presenter for Kalari could have done better (show on Jun 10, 2022). Although he narrated in English very enthusiastically, it was very hard to understand.

We visited this centre on our Kerala trip at Thekkady. The place is well made, with ample seating space for 50 people. They have many shows running through the day. The shows are authentic and really nice. The artists are really good and perform very gracefully. We had a great experience of the rich culture of Kerala.

A must visit place in Thekady. The showcase of the martial art is epic. I would say Kathakali dance show could have been better. The way the martial art stunts were performed were mind blowing. If you are in Thekady please don’t miss this show. It’s close to the Periyar national reserve. There are shows starting from 5 PM. We booked two shows back to back. 5 PM-6 PM Kathakali & then 6 PM - 7 PM martial arts. All the events are in the same campus. You will need to walk out from one auditorium to another.
The prices are reasonable & they charge around 400 per person for one show. So both shows together will cost 800 per person. We purchased the tickets in the morning itself for the evening show. Please buy the tickets in advance so that you will get seats in the front row.
The place has huge amount of parking space. So you won’t need to worry for the parking.
Please don’t miss the martial arts show here. It is epic.

Best is to buy tickets in advance so that you get front seating which is very important for these shows
Both shows are good and well presented, however the sound systems needs lot of improvement since the announcements are not clearly audiable and hence you can't understand the performance correctly
Parking needs to be improved. It's totally mud and pots... At entry you will hit your car for sure

Good show put up by the artists. Its a very tough work and old art form which deserves respect and admiration.
I would recommend to watch the shows and support the artists. New generations might not give it due attention.
Overall a good performance and experience. Kudos to the artists for the hard work and dedication.
We went on a weekday evening and got front row tickets easily on the spot.

Kathakali was indeed a delightful experience especially if you are an admirer of art.The costume, gestures and story telling was intriguing. They start with a demonstration of expression that helps you to understand the story narrated with exceptional music.
Kalaripayattu was a thrilling experience. Epitome of what discipline and training can do. A must watch show which can be enjoyed by anyone irrespective of age but if someone (e.g. Asthmatic) who has smoke sensitivity can be troubled with the smell of kerosene.

And for kattakalli show u shoudl have a big lcd screen to show the performace on screen also coz its not easy to notice expression of a perosn sititng 15 to 20 ft away that the reason 1 star less.

Kumily Thekkady Rd, Thekkady, Kumily, Kerala 685509, India
Periyar Lake, also known as Thekkady Lake, is a serene and vast man-made lake located within the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala. A 1.5-hour boat ride offers splendid views of the surrounding nature and wildlife, including deer, goats, bisons, otters, and various bird species. Visitors are advised to be cautious of mischievous monkeys known for snatching belongings.
Serene lake with splendid views.
Catch early morning boat rides and the chances of viewing wild animals are more.
We were lucky to view elephants crossing the lake by swimming.
Photo enthusiasts can take great pictures of birds as well.
Queues are quite longer for the boat ride tickets and hence suggest going early in the morning.
Besides the boat ride there is not much but you can spend hours or more with kids and return.

One of the most beautiful locations in Kerala. The lake is spread over a vast area. Its a man made lake (Result of a Dam) . Boat ride is very good. Visited this lake the first time in 2008 and went boating but found the experience very average. The boats were also very unsafe and very badly managed.
This time when i went with family it was good too see that the boats are now better managed and it's much safer. The lake is beautiful and the ride is good. However, of you don't see many animals, which you may not , don't get disappointed. It's how it is. There is good bird spotting though. Overall a doable visit if in thekkady. But don't go if you're expecting to see tigers and elephants.

One of the most famous lakes in Kerala is in Periyar. The Periyar Lake is often also referred to as the Thekkady Lake. However, its unmistakable location inside the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary has ensured that it’s widely known by the name of Periyar Lake. Governed by the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, the lake sees footfalls of hundreds of thousands each year.
Interestingly, this lake was created artificially when Kerala’s longest river, Periyar or Mullaperiyar, was dammed in 1895. The Mullaperiyar Dam formed the present day Periyar Lake which is spread across 10 square miles or 26 square kilometres.
This reservoir is famous for its water birds which can be observed from close quarters when you go boating on the lake. Periyar Lake is inside a protected area and contributes to the conservation of plants, fowl, fish and wild animals, some of which are rare, endemic and also endangered.
Periyar Lake Timings & Fee for Boating
Although the timings for boating in the Periyar Lake and its charges are separate from that of the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary, one has to first enter the national park to be able to access the lake. Therefore, you pay two sets of entry fees and adhere to both the timings.
The park is open in all seasons from 6 AM to 7 PM every day. For Indians, the entry fee is INR 45 for adults and INR 15 for kids, whereas for foreigners, the fee is INR 500 for adults and INR 180 for kids. Additionally, still cameras are charged INR 38 and video cameras, INR 300. Binoculars are available on rent at INR 50, with a 100-rupee security deposit. These come particularly handy in sighting birds and animals that are far off.
Now, the Periyar Lake levies a charge of INR 225 for adults and INR 75 for children for each boat ride which lasts for an hour and a half. There are designated timings for boating: 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:15 AM, 1:45 PM and 3:30 PM. Mornings are recommended for birders whereas afternoon slots are highly conducive to sightings of wild animals who reach the lake to quench their thirst.
History Behind the Periyar Lake
While the Periyar National Park goes far back in time, the lake has its own history. In 1895, the Mullaperiyar Dam was built over the Periyar River. A few years later, in 1899, the Periyar Lake Reserve was formed through the efforts of this masonry gravity dam. The lake remained mostly untouched while the surrounding forested area saw a slew of change in ownership and status from that of a private game reserve to a wildlife sanctuary, and to finally a national park.
Layout of Periyar Lake
The Periyar Lake is located at the centre of the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary. It covers a total area of 10 square miles or 26 square kilometres. The lake has the lowest altitude in the Periyar forest complex, at 100 metres above the sea level.
This lake is the final drainage reservoir for the Periyar River, which is the longest in Kerala. Also the Mullayar River can be said to be a contributor to the waters of the Periyar Lake as it is also dammed by the Mullaperiyar Dam which sits at the confluence of both the rivers.
The waters of the Periyar Lake further drain out to the state of Tamil Nadu and partially to the Kerala district of Idukki, through the Idukki Dam which fills the Idukki Lake.

Well organized & maintained forest reserve. Gov. Buses will take you to the lake side with minimal charges but avoid long weekends & public holidays.. too crowded than..boat ride is of 90 mins roaming around the Periyar lake & if lucky may see some wild animals.. Inquire abt the jungle track, night Safari etc. Good options available..
Periyar Tiger Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary home to various animals like bison, deer, elephants and tigers. Visitors can access the park through bus and boat rides. The entrance fare is 65rs for Indians with an option to bring their own vehicle at a particular cost board. Boating tickets are priced at 255rs each with specific timings for arrival.
It's a whole new world of adventure. It's like living with nature. Everything is so green and beautiful. It has a water safari but you have to reach early by 9 am to book the tickets. There are a few good restaurants and museum as well. A whole day well spent.

Board the bus beside which takes in to the park
Walk around 1 on to enter the boating area 255rs for each boating ticket and boats are expected to arrive only at particular timings Boat ride was picturesque and pleasant for around 30 min. Do to spend extra money renting / buying binoculars
Expected to see tiger, elepHants or wild animals but ended up with monkeys

One of the best experiences I've had visiting a national park, they have numerous activities planned, creating a balance between sustainable tourism and a fun experience.
While visiting the national park one has to remember that your safety is of utmost priority for officials and also that these national parks are the last remaining undisturbed homes of these few remaining wild animals. Hence their ways have to be protected, which is why officials have in place certain rules and regulations which have to be followed at all times. Rest you are in great hands, these guys will try their best to give you the most wonderful experience of the national park, however since it's a huge national park 925 sq. Kms to be precise you may or may not spot "the tiger".
Having visited 12 national parks till now, I can tell you with experience that it's not always about "the tiger" or "the elephant" or "the rhino". National parks are an abode of nature, they are the closest demonstrations of a world without urbanization, jungle life to be precise. And that is their precious offering which one can appreciate above all.
I would recommend nature walks for people who have less time, border walk or full day trek for people with trekking experience and a day to spare. However my favourite was tiger trail a 1/2 night stay depending upon your choice.
It's the best experience.

The periyar tiger reserve boat ride gives you the chance to be in nature.
Try to get the boat ride tickets for 7:30AM to 9 AM. The weather will be pleasant and less rush for the ride. Carry pullover or sweater with you, as it will be cooler as we go deeper in the lake.
The chances of seeing wildlife is very rare.
However, you get chance to get witness the beautiful scenery.
Please ensure you arrive at the ticket counter at 45 minutes before the ride time. Buses will take to boat landing point which is around 4KM from ticket counter.
Online booking is available which will help you to jump the queue and save lot of your time.

Boat ride is purely based on luck and when you go. If you are lucky you will see more animals. They have other activities such as tiger trail, nature walk, night trail so on. Enquire and book before going.

Our guide Vinod took us on an adventure which I’m very thankful for. He explained everything in detail and took good care of us.
We were very lucky and saw elephants twice. The second time it was a group of 4 and one of them was a baby about 5 month old. They were blocking the footpath and Vinod organised a small boat for us to get back.

The morning batch boating is best if you want to some wild animals. Our forest department and government should consider early boating like at 6.00 AM and also evening boating after 5.00 PM. It's will give more possibility to see wild animals .

Very nice Ghat section with huge trees and floral. It's better to walk from the entrance check post to the Thekkady Boating, if you would like to feel refreshed and energized.
We were there early in the morning and started walking in, instead of waiting for the Forest department bus. It was a very pleasant walk, breathing fresh aromatic air.
There are a few selfie spots and art work on the way. There was a turtle shaped Cafe, which was closed, but looked very nice.

We travelled from our hotel to their pick up point where we found the buses.
After arriving at the pick up point you need to buy the tickets for the national park and bus ride. Then they take you to the boating point from where the you can access the boats.
You can buy binoculars here for viewing the animals that are hidden in the dense forest.
They cost around Rs.50 and Rs 1000 deposit along with your ID card.
Then the boat ride starts at their estimated time, takes you for a 60-90 minutes ride around the lake.
You can find few wildlife to see their if you are lucky enough. We could only see a few deers on the entire boat ride.
According to me, the ride was not worth it as the boat was very slow and most of the people where bored sitting in there as they couldn't find any wildlife to see around.
Also, you can book tickets online for the Periyar tiger reserve, but you can also find offline tickets as 20% of the tickets are sold offline.
You can just skip this National Park if you are in a hurry.

It is very peaceful on the water, but suggest making sure you get a water side seat on the more modern boats.
Watching the monkeys playing and trying to steal food was fun. The gift shop was very reasonably priced.

Did border trekking in a group of 6, with two guides and one riffle man. Beautiful views, lots of birds, we've also seen multiple bison, deer and an elephant family with a baby.
Trek itself is very doable, no major ascents, but it's a long day from 8am to 4pm with 2 solid breaks.
Wear good shoes, long trousers, lots of sunscreen, hat. They provide decent lunchbox, fruit and water (and backpack to carry it), but we also used up water we brought, total 1.5L per person.
Rs 2000 per person for trek and Rs 500 for park entry. Don't think they allow to go without the guide since there are wild animals and the path is not really visible.

Beautifully green park that has over 500 elephants and 45 tigers. I did the border hiking I booked online on the official site. The hike ended up being great, the guide and guard were so knowledgeable about the local fauna and flora, we even spotted 2 elephants again up close along with many other small animals. They explained that this is one of the activities they do as part of ecotourism so there are always people activity like in the 3 night tiger trek and others to discourage illegal mining and poaching.

Palaruvi waterfalls was an amazing experience.
We went there from Tamil Nadu. Buses were easily available that went directly to the waterfalls stop. We didn’t know Malayalam but somehow managed to communicate in English with the forest rangers who were very helpful.
Private vehicles are not allowed beyond the entry point.
A shuttle bus is provided which takes us to the waterfalls.
The ticket price is 70₹ per person.
The way to the waterfalls is quite scenic.
Coming to the waterfalls itself , there are changing rooms available for ladies and separate places for families and men.
You can get into the water where you can enjoy as much as possible. There are rangers everywhere for safety. The place is very clean and the rangers continuously keep it clean and tidy.

Looking at this place it seemed that the Kerala tourism department has maintained it in a very beautiful way. When we went, the water was rushing very fast in the waterfall. It is a very beautiful moment.. It is a very beautiful place to see and enjoy..We came as friends and decided that next time we should bring everyone with family..Only one hour is allowed. However, isn't an hour enough in that beautiful place? That is the only minor disappointment but everything else is very beautiful..

Palaruvi is under the maintenance of the kerala government. It has parking facilities. We have to park our vehicles beast the ticket counter area and from there we’ll be taken to the falls through their bus. Once we reach there we can have coffee or snacks in their canteen . From there we need to walk some steps to have a bath in palaruvi waterfalls. As the steps are of rocks it might be hard for old people but during our visit I saw many old people climbed it effortlessly. So they can take rest in middle and reach the falls. There is a dressing room for women which is quite neat. So ladies can use them but must have the belongings safe as there are monkeys around .

Falls in the middle of Kerala forest is well maintained and clean, strict rules are enforced about not throwing plastic and waste about, which is a good initiative. Few pointers
1. You need to take only the local forest bus up to the falls so you need to buy tickets. During the day, queues can be quite long. So go early or ensure one person from your group stands in line before another buys the tickets
2. There is a small cafe where the bus drops you off near the falls. Limited items available. You may have a long wait before you are able to actually get what you paid for.
3. The walk up to the falls and even down to the bathing area is very uneven and slippery at times, so be careful while walking.
4. The view point at the top is beautiful, although a very steep walk ahead
5. There is a changing room for the women, which is a huge plus point.
6. If visiting during day, advised to carry enough water and small snacks while you wait to get on the bus.
7. Treat people with respect! And don’t be a nuisance!
Beautiful views, nice memories to create 😀 worth the visit if you’re up to quite a hike.

This is one of the best waterfall I have seen in South India. Ample of parking space available that to inside the jungle. You have to take the entry ticket and then you have to get inside the government bus which will take you to the waterfall which is approximately 3-4 km from parking. When we went there there was heavy water flow which was mesmerizing. but the bathing area is little small so that in case of heavy crowd they will allow only for 1 hour for one group.. beware of the monkees out there..

Also we can goo beneath to falls but pathway was damages when I visited. The only bad experience here is the waiting shed of bus which is made of glass and very hot to stand there. There are 4 buses taking to the water falls. The entry fee is Rs 50 per person and parking cost Rs 50 for car. Overall great experience and good place to visit.

Milk flowing from up the sky, palaruvi waterfalls literally give this feel. From the ticket counter to the waterfall it's 4 km distance. Only 4 buses operated by the forest department commutes the visitors to and fro the waterfalls located at a pretty good height up in the mountains. 70 rupees per head is the charge plus 60 rupees for car parking. Keeping water bottles handy will be useful. There is only one small tea and snacks cafe operated by the Kerala Forest department staffs which is crowded usually and takes time to fetch a small cup of tea or banana fry like snacks. Those who come prepared to take a shower in the waters flowing from the falls can enjoy amidst the crowds. The falls go fully functional only during steady rainy season. Palaruvi is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Kollam district. I reached around 3 pm, the place was pretty crowded because of the holiday. The view from the top of the small rock cascade is serene and the water is so cool. You can bathe under the waterfall if the water level is low. The rock in the down can be a bit slippery as well.
To reach here, you can use, public transportation or a Pvt vehicle. The ticket will cost around 75 rs per person. Palaruvi is located 4km from the ticket counter, so they offer a small bus ride, inside the forest, that's wonderful to go through.
The best time of the season is after the monsoons and avoid dry seasons. If you want to bathe, consider taking towels because I didn't see many souvenir places around.

Visited this place in mid summer, So there was less water. it affect the beauty of the waterfall, and also we arrived in the afternoon, so I prefer to lie in the water without giving much importance to photography. Nice place to visit with or without family or friends. The coolness of water may touch our soul. The water fall is also beautiful. It's worth spending an hour or two. The staff have succeeded in creating a positive environment here.

Palaruvi is one of the best waterfalls in kerala the name of the waterfall is 100 percent suited for the view of this waterfall. The water flowing looks like milk falling from the top. Palaruvi is situated 4-5 km inside of the main road. There is a lot of parking space in the jungle near the parking space there is a ticket counter. We can pay and collect the tickets from the counter and wait for their bus for 10-20 minutes. They don't allow our own vehicle to reach the waterfall they provide government buses for transportation. The waterfall is 3-4 km away from the parking space. The water flow rate is low because we went there in february first week which is not a rainy season. In rainy season the water flows rate increases and there is a rush occurs due to the visitors. There are 3 bathing spaces allotted for family, gents and ladies. Beware of the slippery rocks and monkeys both are dangerous in some situations.

The famous Thangassery Lighthouse, which can be seen rising up majestically above the coconut palms. The cylindrical lighthouse tower is painted in catchy red and white oblique bands.
Visitors can enjoy the glorious sun setting over the Arabian Sea as they drive down on the Lighthouse road. The Thangassery beach Lighthouse was built about 120 years ago to guide fishermen and sailors along the reef-riddled coastal waters. Its beacon can be seen up to 20km out at sea.
Visitors are allowed to climb to the top of the 140feet high Thangassery lighthouse tower.
A lift is available up to 3/4 of the tower and rest of the tower is reachable with narrow and steep steps. The spectacular 360 degrees panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and splendor of the backwaters and Kollam city is a treat to the eyes.

Entry fees: Rs. 20 for adults. Rs. 10 for children. Extra fees for mobile and camera photography.
We parked outside as we did not see any dedicated parking space.
You can reach the top of the lighthouse either by climbing stairs or taking the lift. Usually you'll have to wait 5-10 min in a queue to get into the lift.
At the top, you get an exhilarating view of the coastline, the harbour and the distant sea. You feel at peace, gazing at waves crashing on the shoreline, and the cool sea breeze brushing against your face, before the watchman shoos you and tells you to keep moving.

Thangassery light house is a wonderful place to spend during evening time. The ticket fair is 20 rupees per head for adults and 10 rs per head for kids. Monday holiday.
I went during evening time and had a very good experience. Everyone is allowed to stay on the top of the lighthouse for 10-15 minutes (may vary according to the crowd during your day of visit).
On the top of the lighthouse, the view is a must experience one. The view facing the sea is wonderful.
There is a small kids park at the feet of the lighthouse.
In front of the lighthouse there is a 2 km pathway through the sea. The ticket fair is 10-20 per head. The pathway is a very photogenic place.
If possible add Thangassery lighthouse to your travel plan in kollam.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Lighthouse, and I must say it was a truly unforgettable experience. Nestled along the breathtaking coastline, this lighthouse offers a unique combination of beauty and thrill that is hard to find elsewhere. Here's my review of the Lighthouse:
First and foremost, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Lighthouse had a lift facility. This made the journey to the top much more accessible and convenient for visitors of all ages and physical abilities. The presence of a lift ensures that even those who may struggle with climbing stairs can still enjoy the panoramic views from the lighthouse.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse during the evening hours. Not only does it provide a stunning backdrop for capturing memorable photos, but it also offers a respite from the scorching daytime heat. The cooler weather adds to the overall pleasant experience, allowing visitors to explore the lighthouse comfortably.
While the Lighthouse's top observation area may have limited space, this in no way diminishes the awe-inspiring view that awaits you. As you ascend to the summit, the anticipation builds, and once you reach the top, you're greeted by sweeping vistas of the surrounding coastline. The unobstructed views of the shimmering sea and the rugged cliffs are simply breathtaking, making the climb well worth the effort.
However, I must warn you that climbing the Lighthouse can be a somewhat intimidating experience. The narrow staircases and steep steps add an element of excitement and adventure, but they may also evoke a sense of fear, especially for those with a fear of heights. If you're up for a thrilling challenge, climbing the Lighthouse will surely get your heart racing.
Overall, my visit to the Lighthouse was a delightful and unforgettable experience. The combination of the lift facility, the cool evening weather, and the awe-inspiring views made it a must-visit attraction. Whether you're seeking a scenic adventure or simply want to soak in the beauty of the coastline, the Lighthouse offers an enchanting experience that will leave you in awe.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse, but do remember to check the operating hours and plan your visit accordingly. Enjoy the beautiful vistas and embrace the thrill of climbing to the top

Tangasseri Lighthouse or Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Tangasseri in Kollam city of the Indian state of Kerala.
They charge(cost) around ₹10/person for going to light house and it opens from 10Am to 5PM.
The coastal views for the top of light house are amazing you should try once.
Also from the seaside you can watch the sunset extremely pleasing.
You can also see the waves crashing at the rocks nearby at the seashore.
You can go there from Kollam Railway station by an auto from there. As such no bus service directly to that place.
There is also a small park there.

Thangassery Light House is a must-visit attraction in Kollam, Kerala. The lighthouse is a signature of Thangassery and offers a breathtaking view of the breakwater and small fishing harbor. The fishing boats here are very colorful and so are the houses we see from here. There is a lift that takes you most of the way up, but if you don’t need one, I would recommend walking up the steps and spending time at the windows. The lighthouse is well-maintained and the old equipment is well-preserved and taken care of.

Fort Anjengo Trivandrum is a stronghold built in the 1690s by the British, featuring high laterite walls that overlook the Indian Ocean. As Easy India company's first permanent port on the Malabar coast, it is an ancient and historically significant fort that is worth visiting in Varkala. The well-maintained fort boasts a peaceful atmosphere and a pleasant garden with various plants.

The Neyyar Dam is a large structure built on the Neyyar River, featuring a reservoir, picnic areas, and a wildlife sanctuary that offers visitors an opportunity to take part in various types of boating activities on the water. Of these options, the wildlife boating experience stands out as it takes passengers through twists and turns to reach the "wildlife preservation centre," which is a nature retreat in itself that is definitely worth visiting.
Getting there is a bit tricky with the bad condition of roads. But the dam and surrounding areas are well maintained with a near garden and viewing area. Yet to try the safaris, but already such a wonderful experience.

This is a must visit place if you are traveling to Trivandrum. This is an attraction for all age groups from kids to senior citizens. The highlights of the place is the sight of the water flowing from the dam structure. The sight and sound of it calms you. There are multiple parks inside which are neatly maintained. There are lawns all over with shady benches to relax and enjoy the nature. The steps take you to the top of the dam. There is a watch tower at the top which gives a great 360 degree view. There is a KTDC restaurant at the top. The service is great and food is good. The rates are nominal. The view is again great from this restaurant. There were lions maintained in a Lion Safari earlier. But these are closed now. Was informed that the lions died of ailments. Cars can be parked safely under shade. You can spend more than half a day here with friends and family enjoying the view of the dam, reservoir, lawns and forests around.

They have various boat and speed boat rides. The ride was nice and offered amazing view. There's also a building structure on the top which you can climb on to of (like a lighthouse) and enjoy the view up top. There's a small entry fee and the rides are decently priced. A little further away is an elephant training camp, deer park etc. The elephant camp has "kotta vanji" or coracle boat ride, which seemed more appealing as there wouldn't be the noise from the motor in the street boat, we did not try this though. There's a milma ice cream place for an ice cream break.

The enormous structure of the dam will leave you in awe. The parks adjacent to it provides a peaceful experience.
The best part that I liked was the various kinds of boating. Out if which my favorite was wildlife boating where we were taken through the twists and turns of the water to the "wildlife preservation centre" which is a nature retreat in itself and one worth visiting.
You can bring your family or friends and have a nice day here within a budget.
Also there's a swimming pool if you're interested

A calm, scenic place, with a beautiful dam – a view that’s especially inviting for a camera if the skies are clear and the dam shutters are open. Once in, there is quite a bit to do here. We went for a boating – just the 5 of us in a boat meant for more folks – with stops at the Deer Park and the Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre. The Lion Safari was not open at that point since a few of the lionesses were undergoing medical support. The view from the watch tower is absolutely breath-taking if you're game to climb up all those stairs. A lovely half- to full-day trip from Thiruvananthapuram city.

The Lions are dead so safari is not happening. Boat ride and staff are good. 3 people speed boat ₹750+ 15 per head for so called reserve forest. Entry not allowed but they collect anyway.
Climb to the top from down is not for the weak or elderly
#750 for 20 minutes boat ride in safari boat for 6 people 30 minutes for ₹1100. These also ₹15 / person for entry to reserve they charge.

The neyyar dam looks beautiful but not clean they have to improve the facilities Their toilets are not clean inside and the dam area is not cleaned properly. At the top of there is a small tower where we get beautiful views from there. In the top of the dam outside the dam get another ticket for boating, deer park visit and crocodile 🐊 park visit . Now they don't have lions Safari. Overall it is average

A dam under irrigation departmetn with good park but lacks maintainance. If maintained properly, it is a nice location to attract tourists.
Nature attraction featuring deer viewing, a crocodile park & boat rides past Neyyar Dam.
The best part of visiting this place is, we've to go on a small boat trip to reach there. The animals are very much close to nature out there. The animals are very well protected. We can see elephants, lions, crocodiles, deers etc.
Robin W — Google review
Neyyar dam and surrounding places are good. The view of the dam and the park nearby offers a good spot for family picnics. But the horrible thing is the "wildlife sanctuary". It's just a name for animals put under captivity in a confined space. The boating program includes boating to a nearby island which has the "deer park" and elephant and crocodile "rehabilitation" centre. There's nothing but very few crocodiles put in a cage and an elephant (yes, only one) in chains. They say that it's too old. And after that comes "deer park" - again lots of deer in a confined space, just like in a zoo! Why do they call this a wildlife sanctuary? I really don't know. This costs 250 per person!
The natural beauty of the place is breathtaking and awesome! But why does the management do this? They could have turned this into something beautiful and memorable for the people who visit right? Totally unhappy with the management of tourism here. Now you decide whether to visit or not.

Wonderful experience.
Peaceful atmosphere, clean and fresh air.
Not many staff around, except at the ticket counters.
The premises are well constructed, due to which they stay in good shape despite lack of maintenance.
The snack bar is very friendly and have fair prices, and also doubles up as onofficial information counter.
Good place to spend 2-3 hours relaxing and unwinding.

Neyyar Dam, located in Kerala, India, is a beautiful destination known for its serene surroundings and lush greenery. Visitors often enjoy boat rides on the reservoir, trekking in the nearby hills, and exploring the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. It's a great place for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst scenic landscapes. However, some reviewers note that the facilities could be improved, so it's always good to manage expectations accordingly. Overall, it offers a refreshing getaway for those looking to unwind in nature's embrace.

Neyyar wildlife sanctuary is a popular one day destinations in Trivandrum. Situated in an area of around 128 km square and is a part of the Agasthyamala biosphere reserve. This reserve forms the basin for the Neyyar River and its tributaries Kallar and mullayar. The natural vegetation and the diverse species of mammals such sloth bear , tiger, leopard, elephant, barking deer, sambar, etc several species of birds and reptiles together form a large ecosystem. A crocodile rehabilitation centre and Elephant rehabilitation centre has also been set up here. Tourist information complex provides all the information and tickets for parking and entry. Boating facility is available but carries limited number of people and there could be a long wait for boats to return. Boating takes one towards a small forest cover where the lions and leopards are said to be conserved. Few small stalls and a ktdc restaurant work here. Even though the hygiene and maintainable are average regarding the eateries. There is very less vegetarian choice of food / meals available in the same. It would be better to carry the food and water to this spot. The park near the dam is a place that people spent the evenings. Overall Maintenence is poor in this reserve. The authorities cancel the boats whenever they feel like. The parking facility is too far. People park on the road side . The whole road is crowded and one can expect a long traffic jam there.

It’s 1 hour from Trivandrum city. The place has a crocodile park that can be accessed without a boat. Opens at 9 am.
Nothing much to see. The sanctuary is on another island and we need to use a boat to see it. Took us about 1.25 hrs to enter the boat, see the 2 elephants, few deer and 2 crocodiles and return.
To see the deer, you will need to go early before it gets too hot, else they will go up the hill and return only in the evening when it cools down. So please plan accordingly.
We paid 250 per person. Not really worth the time and money, in my opinion.
The lion park is not there anymore as the lions died.
There is place to drink tea, coffee etc outside .
You wont find any proper restaurants nearby, though. There is one ktdc but we dint try it.

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is a superb place, blending with nature—hills, lakes, forests, and parks. The boating from Wildlife Santuary to Deer Park was great! You can take a small walk inside the forest to reach the deer rehab park. There is plenty of space for kids, family, and friends. The crocadile park could be improved more to attract tourists! One thing that we missed was the lion safari, as new lions are yet to reach!

Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, established in 1857 as an extension of the Napier Museum, is one of India's oldest terrariums. Originally intended for recreation, it has evolved into a wildlife conservation center. With a diverse range of animals including 35 species of mammals, 28 species of birds, and 17 types of reptiles, the zoo offers an enriching experience.
Such a nice zoo ever experienced. It's so beautiful zoo. Cleanliness is very nice and also lots of animal and birds are available. There also a museum which is very educational and original animal sculpture and lots of historical things like Kerala Nair houses, different types of clothing in India. Lots of chief ministers antique items and awards he have won. And also available aquarium which have lots of fish. It's a really great zoo, museum, aquarium in one place. One of the best zoos that I have visited so far. Tigers, white Tiger, leopard, hyena, Lion, deer, monkey, reptiles, birds, hippopotamus, bear etc are the main attractions. A butterfly garden is also there. Lots of greenery and shades allow us to walk freely under the sun.
Entry fee ₹30 for adults and ₹10 for kids between 5-12 yrs age. Parking charge inside the zoo for 4 wheelers is ₹150 which is ridiculously high. Plastic bottles and items are not allowed. A cloak room is available at the entrance. Toilets are there inside the zoo premises.

The entire zoo is well maintained and it's fun walking there, there's rush on holidays but again it doesn't take away the charm of the place.
Also there's aquarium and natural historical museum in the same area but different tickets. Food is good too, but it's usually crowded.
2-3 hours will be good for the whole thing.
Great to go with family especially kids.

An old style zoo, with some animals kept in open enclosures and some other in steel cages.
Some enclosures in not very good conditions and overcrowded.

There are Asiatic lions, tigers (white as well), hyena, leopards and so on including many varieties of birds. Me and my kid were bored, so we decided to go to Zoo. As we planned, we were excited to see animals, near by. Especially we both were eager to see the wildest carnivores. After seeing Lions and Tigers in TV, there was an expectation to see them live as I have read in Kenneth Anderson books that they kill and can even carry a young buffalo on ther shoulder back... I wondered if it was possible, but when I saw, I understood it was possible.

Enjoyable place with nature. Place is too clean and properly maintained. No plastics bags and water bottles are allowed. If you definitely need that thing, you may pay fine and they give one sticker for that things. After you exit the gate you show that things to the officer, he will give your money back. I recommend that don't go with plastic bags and bottles. Animals may eat or surrounding may pollute. So avoid please. Keep environment as it is.
Thank you❤️.

The animals are seen at their natural environment. The zoo is really big with many carnivores and herbivores enjoying their freedom within the enclosures. It also showcases many tropical plants and is a miniature forest. One wonderful thing was that there are useful information about the habitat, origin, apart from their scientific names and common names which was very educative. A serious student of biological sciences would find it useful. A must destination for kids with their friends and family. An ideal place for picnics and get-together. The entrance is very modest.

The Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital of Kerala, India. It is considered as the richest place of worship in the world. The name of the city of 'Thiruvananthapuram' in Malayalam translates to "The City of Lord Ananta", (The City Of Lord Vishnu) referring to the deity of the Padmanabhaswamy temple. The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the Chera style and the Dravidian style of architecture, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century gopura. While the Ananthapura temple in Kumbla in Kasaragod is considered as the original seat of the deity ("Moolasthanam"), architecturally to some extent, the temple is a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple in Thiruvattar.
The principal deity Padmanabhaswamy (Vishnu) is enshrined in the "Anantha Shayana" posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the infinite serpent Adi Shesha.Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family of Travancore. The titular Maharaja of Travancore, Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, is the trustee of the temple.
Several extant Hindu Texts like the Vishnu Purana, Brahma Purana,Matsya Purana,Varaha Purana, Skanda Purana, Padma Purana,Vayu Purana, Bhagavata Purana etc mention the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The Temple has been referred to in the (only recorded) Sangam period of literature several times. Many conventional historians and scholars are of the opinion that one of the names that the Temple had, "The Golden Temple", literally was in cognizance of the fact that the Temple was already unimaginably wealthy by that point. Many extant pieces of Sangam Tamil literature and poetry as well as later works of the 9th century of Tamil poet-saints like Nammalwar refer to the temple and the city as having walls of pure gold. At some places, both the temple and the entire city are often eulogised as being made of gold, and the temple as heaven.
The temple is one of the 108 principal Divya Desams ("Holy Abodes") in Vaishnavism according to existing Tamil hymns from the seventh and eighth centuries C.E and is glorified in the Divya Prabandha. The Divya Prabandha glorifies this shrine as being among the 13 Divya Desam in Malai Nadu (corresponding to present-day Kerala with Kanyakumari District). The 8th century Tamil poet Alvar Nammalvar sang the glories of the Padmanabha.
It is believed that Parasurama purified and venerated the idol of Sree Padmanabhaswamy in Dvapara Yuga. Parasurama entrusted 'Kshethra karyam' (Administration of the Temple) with seven Potti families – Koopakkara Potti, Vanchiyoor Athiyara Potti, Kollur Athiyara Potti, Muttavila Potti, Karuva Potti, Neythasseri Potti and Sreekaryathu Potti. King Adithya Vikrama of Vanchi (Venad) was directed by Parasurama to do 'Paripalanam' (Protection) of the Temple. Parasurama gave the Tantram of the Temple to Tharananallur Namboothiripad. This legend is narrated in detail in 'Kerala Mahathmyam' which forms part of 'Brahmanda Puranam'.

There all things could be found like food, clothing, bags, gadgets and etc, the security personnels over there are very helpful and ready to guide. Pilgrims attending from across the country make the temple darshan more special. Finally visit the main deity and also some small shrines are present and worth visiting them too.

The temple lives up to its expectations great feel and serene outlook. Spend more time reading about the architecture and unique features so when you visit you will get a good visit. Had a good darshan. Don't forget to take your dothi or you will get ripped off by the people selling knock offs.

My visit to the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum was peaceful and awe-inspiring. The temple's architecture was magnificent, and the atmosphere inside was serene. I offered my prayers and admired the beautiful artwork. The temple courtyard was a tranquil place to walk around and reflect. I also enjoyed the delicious prasadam from the food stall. Overall, it was a memorable and spiritually uplifting experience.

Indian currency value more than 83 lakhs crores
Simple briefing about the temple
1: Follow the dress code , no pants, casuals or western wear
2: No mobiles allowed , deposit in the cloak room
3: Place your footwear near the entrance gate to avoid burning your feet due to the scorching hot floor
4: Most important thing , when you visit the temple many members see the divinely beautiful golden idol inside the temple, but this is Utsav moorthy . Original idol span more then 25 feet tall behind the golden idol
5: You need to see the lord from 3 doors/windows inside the temple
6: You can see the lord's feet through the first door , navel area through the 2nd door and hand and head through the 3rd door
7: The beauty of the lord can't be described. You can see the face, forehead,Nose , mouth and chin of the lord Vishnu from the 3rd door
8: plan your visit in the afternoon at exactly 4pm so that you can finish your darshan within 20 mins
9: Before visiting the temple, just spare some time in reading the history of it
10: Don't hesitate to buy any souvenirs/photo frames from the temple. This will remind you the purest divine journey of your darshan of lord Vishnu

Back in June 2011, as a result of a petition filed in the court seeking transparency in the management of the temple and the subsequent investigation of the temple complex, six subterranean vaults were found inside the Padmanabhaswamy temple. They were subsequently named vaults A, B, C, D, E, and F. Out of the six, they managed to open five, from which came out items like gold coins, statues, jewelries, precious stones, crowns and even thrones made of gold! The collection turned out to be the largest ever recorded collection of items of gold and precious stones.

Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is really impressive! The design outside and the peaceful vibe inside are amazing. The god's statue is beautiful, and the history is cool. Just remember to dress appropriately and be ready for some security stuff. It's a special place to connect with culture and religion.

A magnificent temple. As soon as we go into the temple, we get an unknown divine feeling. Amazing sculpture is here. I can't express that feeling in words..you have to see it! There is a beautiful lake corner outside the temple. There are many fish in it which are visible to the visitors. It also contains crocodile but does not harm the fish, which is the specialty here. All the facilities we need are available in the surroundings of the temple. Definitely a place to visit with the whole family!

The famous ancient temple Sree Padmanabhaswamy is situated in the heart of Trivandrum. There are no parking facilities and also there is a high rush in front of the temple. The temple is very neat and clean. The temple is situated nearest to the KSRTC bus stand. 4,5 Km far from the railway station. Only Hindus and government officials would be let in the temple's main part. There is high security on all sides of the Temple. We couldn't see the Kalavara part .overall nice.

Fantastic architectural magnificent temple. Everyone has to follow the dress code, for men it's mundu and for women it's saree.Devotees coming from long can directly go near the temple where you can find dormitories and refreshing rooms. It's very near both Bus stand and Railway station.Must must visit if you are in Kerala to witness the beauty and rich culture of Kerala. You will feel so special, pure and positive. Grateful to visit and get a chance to learn the historical architecture and history of this temple. The temple is open 3:30 AM–12 PM and 5–8:30 PM every day. Some say that the service is good, but you might need to buy a ticket if you want to go quickly. Others say that it offers an eye-pleasing experience.

I had the opportunity to visit the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple recently, and the experience was truly mesmerizing. I was amazed to witness the strict dress code and the attention to detail in maintaining the purity and sanctity of the temple.
One of the most striking features of the temple is its intricate and detailed architecture, with its traditional Dravidian style. The impressive Ananthasayanam idol is truly breathtaking. This unique form of Lord Vishnu makes the temple even more revered.
There were very strict dress codes for devotees, like only dhotis for males and white-red saree for females and no photography allowed inside the temple.
Overall, my visit was a memorable and fulfilling experience. I highly recommend a visit to this magnificent temple to all.

Upon entering the temple premises, the grandeur of the architecture immediately commands attention. Intricately carved pillars, adorned with mythological figures and religious motifs, lead the way to the main sanctum. The attention to detail in the craftsmanship is remarkable, showcasing the skill and devotion of the artisans who contributed to its construction.

The Shangumugham Beach in Trivandrum is a popular tourist spot with plenty of activities to enjoy, such as swimming, sunbathing and kayaking. The beach is also home to a ceremonial procession honoring Hindu deities, making it an interesting place to visit for anyone interested in Hindu culture.
After the renovation post flood related damage, the beach is clean and nice. A good way to spend the evening. The footfall is large but can enjoy without disturbance.

Its a good beach..
Tides were a bit too harsh when we visited almost felt intimidated by that..
There is not much greenery or enjoyable things on the beach.
Although the beach has a park with a mermaid statue , we can spent quality time there.
The restaurant old coffee house is nearby the beach so it's really convenient for those who wants to grab a bite with beach view.
Overall a nice beach to spent time with...

One of the iconic places in Trivandrum to sit, walk, roam and enjoy with your family or friends especially during evenings. The beach is very long and moderately clean and gives a breathtaking sight of sunset in the evening. Plenty of families flock to this places during weekend evenings. Adjacent to the beach, there is a kids play area and park and several local food shops. Evenings are breezy and cool. Best time to visit is during sunset.

Amid the heat of everything we go through in a busy city life, if you wish to take a break in serenity and silence, then here is a place to visit, especially during week days, there wouldn't be much crowd, and the vast wild beach waves takes all our attention.
However during weekends, it is pretty crowded and noisy. There is enough parking space outside and also has adequate cleanliness. Dining at the Old coffee house gives a nice sea side view while eating.
Altogether such a beautiful place to spend the evenings!!!

Nice place... Shangumugham beach is a perfect hangout to spend your evenings.i'm sure that the serene atmosphere and the mesmerizing seashore will enable you to relieve all your stresses..
You can also find inner peace as there is 'Shangumugham Devi Temple' nearby.
One can enjoy the beauty of the shore by walking along , tasting an ice cream!!
There are small platforms for the visitors to sit and watch the views..
There's also park nearby the beach, where there are rides for both adults and children. But entry is based on pass for each ride.
You can also view the famous sculpture 'Sagarakanyaka' by the renowned sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman near the beach.

The beach is not so clean. Very crowded. Early morning hours are good - calm and no crowd. Fast food counters are open in the evening. People are just dumping trash on the beach. Be careful while walking - glass pieces are there.

[July 2023] This is a place that is most dear to the people of Trivandrum. Everyone who grew up in Trivandrum until 2000s has a very special place for this beach in their heart. With the iconic Indian Coffee House right opposite to the beach, it used to be a very lively beach.
A lot has happened since then. The Indian Coffee House closed and another restaurant called Old Coffee House took its place. A lot of beautification has taken place. The sea has taken up a lot of the shore including destruction of the side walks. No one is allowed to enter the sea. Yet, you can find a lot of people come here to watch the sea, take a walk, eat some street food and chill.
At present, you cannot enter the sea. But there's some park constructed where you can sit and enjoy. Also the view of the airport can be enjoyed from here. There's a dedicated parking available on top of roadside parking both of which are paid.

The top beach in the Thiruvananthapuram district is unfortunately overlooked by the corporation. Despite initiating development activities, none have reached completion. This beach holds a significant narrative for me personally, being one of my favorite destinations. Its condition and the surrounding area serve as a poignant illustration of the inadequacies within our corporation.

This beach is beautiful and definitely a must visit. The ideal time to visit is before sunset. It does get very crowded in the evenings. There's a coffee house as well along with food and chaat stalls near the beach. Do take the kids out for a fun evening.

Good beach.. However lots of garbage is being deposited across the beach which is highly pathetic to see..this makes the entire area dirty..Authorities shall take some action on this.. also for the reconstruction of demolished roads Inside..Sunset view is superb.. So many Street food vendors are there in the surroundings...lot of scope for the beautification and for better toilet and neat sitting facilities..In total the area need more cleanliness and structured arrangements..

The beach was closed for many days due to high seas. The beach was very quiet when I went.Lots of people play in the beach. There are many roadside shops here.We can eat and shop there.Horse riding facilities are provided here. The main attraction here is here is jalakanyaka mermaid sculpture.. It is the great work of kanayi kunjiraman. A assault helicopter used by the Indian Air Force displayed here. Its a mi-8 helicopter..A lot of development can be done here to attract tourists..Plastic bottles are thrown in some places and there is a lack of cleanliness.Children will be very impressed in here...

The beach is a sunset watcher's paradise and looks enchanting with a very attractive sculpture of a mermaid set in white stone. The beach has a long stretch of white sand and clean crystal water. Shanghumugham beach is an ideal place for picnic and relaxing and attracts many, situated just a few kms from Tvm airport.
The beach buzzes with activity, hosting numerous vendors selling delectable local snacks and unique handicrafts, providing a glimpse into Kerala's rich culinary and artisanal heritage. Families, couples, and travelers find respite here, enjoying moments of tranquility, kite flying, or engaging in beach sports and activities.
Its serene atmosphere and cultural significance make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a harmonious blend of nature's beauty and regional charm in God's Own Country.
