If you only want to do one thing on your trip to Bhutan, you have to choose this one. The monastery/temple is very peaceful and soothing. The hike up takes around 3 hours and the hike down takes around 2-2.5 hours as well. The hike is moderate to hard, the intensity increases as you climb. The last part is proper concrete stairs while the earlier part is trail but a well wide and marked trail. There is one cafe in the middle of the hike which serves basic food and beverages. The hike is very satisfying. If you want a hiking stick do get it in advance as there are no shops at the base point, there is only a ticket counter for the tickets.

The most beautiful place in Bhutan. A great and still acceptable trek. Beautiful scenery. Top. But be careful, definitely NOT in the rain. Also NOT on a horse with photo equipment... I saw a female hiker fall. Better to walk.

Absolute must visit hike that is no doubt worth it when in Bhutan. Our guide said no trip to Bhutan is complete if you don’t do Tiger’s Nest and he was correct.
If you have moderate athletic ability, the hike up will take time but easily doable.

One of the most visited place in the country. And completely worth the whole day of hiking.
Everyone already know the story behind the name of this monastery being Tiger's Nest. The journey takes about 2.30-3 hours one way on foot. Though horses are available for the ride, but its upto about halfway, rest is to be done on foot due to the incline & steps.
The trail is very scenic & moving along greeneries.
The monastery at the top is an amazing feat of marvel, considering the location & hardwork required for the infrastructure. The monks are really very nice & friendly. They offered us war butter tea to relieve our tiredness.

Magnificent magnificent Buddhist monastery. On the way up, we got on the little horse but it did not take us all the way to the top. We had to walk another hour to reach the monastery. The nature surrounding is very rich and healthy, you can really enjoy the fresh air on during the walk. The architecture of the monastery is very detailed and beautiful. This is an absolutely must to visit if you are in Bhutan.

One of the best experiences I have witnessed in real. The entire trek of 3.5 hrs which really was a good way to get a complete exercise to getting fit to getting to the main temple and get my inner peace in that environment, it was amazing.

Memorable spiritual experience. Getting here again after 2 decades was something. The paths are well maintained and was relieved to see the railings before reaching taktshang. I remember having to crawl and move like spiders those days!
Would be good to plan very early in the morning to avoid the scorching sun. Although most of the way is under shade some are not. Take plenty of sunscreen and snacks.
We went on a Monday hence there were hardly anyone. Good to avoid the crowd as the main temples are quite small.
You can consider a hot stone bath or a massage in one of the hotels near the base after climbing back.

One of the must visit places when in Bhutan. The monastery on top is very beautiful.
It's a trek of 6.2kms both ways. It is advisable to start early in the morning and take rest stops whenever needed. The entire trail is a steep slope to be climbed. You get very breathtaking views on the way. Anyone with light physical activities can easily complete the trek provided you take periodic breaks to acclimatize to the high altitude. Carry sufficient snacks(chocolates, dry fruits) and energy drinks to consume during the trek. There are no shops apart from only one cafeteria which is at half the distance of the trek.
Wear proper thick socks which will help once you reach the monastery on top. The entire floor is made up of stones and your feet will feel freezing cold.

An awesome hike to see one of the most iconic monastery in Bhutan.... built on an almost vertical rock face and require strong legs to reach the top.
Most of the way is dirt trails and the final bit is just over 400 steps of descent followed by 250 steps of ascent..
The views from the cafe and the second view point just before the steps are breathtaking.
Highly recommended.

The hike to see this beautiful architure was all worth it. The distance of the hike was around 10KMs ( round trip). There are 8 temples in the monastery and all are amazing. The entry fees to see the temples was bit expensive (1000 Rs) per head. You can find a cafe at midpoint of the hike.

Omg this is such a wonder. You have to hike for about 2-4 hours to reach this cliffside monastery. You'll not only enjoy the views but also the wildlife in the mountains as well. Make sure to rest at the only cafe on the hiking route and start as early as possible.

30 minutes by car from town.
Cluster of 4 temples, 8 caves, and monk’s quarters.
Like most of the prominent buildings in Bhutan, the monastery has white walls with red/gold colour roof.
Clinging to an impossible steep and rocky cliff some 800 meters above the valley and some 3000 plus meters above sea level.
Covered in lush and varied forests. Extraordinary ecological diversity. Plenty of pine trees.
The most sacred Buddhist site in Bhutan.
Cliffside hike of 3 km one way. Easy with a stick or trek pole.
Rocky and muddy terrain takes some 2-3 hours to scale. In case of rain then some 3-4 hours.
Midway cafeteria for tea or coffee or lunch. Washrooms facilities. View the monastery from the cafeteria, if not foggy or cloudy.
Once all photos are taken, easy to hike back.
Magical experience of a lifetime.

Been there for more than 100 times still can’t get enough of the the view and the hike.
It’s a 3hrs hike up and 1 hr down. The hike is mostly steep and the monastery is perched on 3000ft rock cliff at the elevation of 10170ft.
There are options of pony and horses but the ride is till up to the first view point and you still have to hike 1hr up.
There is a cafeteria at the view point where you can have food and drinks, not a very best food but when you are hungry it works.
It’s one of the highlight of Bhutan trip to every one who visit Bhutan.
*and don’t forget traditional hotstone bath when you are done with hike, Hotstone bath is immensely therapeutic for tired limbs after hiking.

Undoubtedly the star attraction of Bhutan. To fully enjoy the rest of the places you'd visit during your stay, Paro Taksang (AKA the Tiger's Nest Monastery) has to be visited towards the end of your tour. Otherwise other places of interest may not be appreciated as they deserve. Paro Taksang is a beautiful location and a tough adventure as well. The trail is a challenge with beautiful scenery and a breathtaking beauty of the monastery as a reward. For those who aren't confident enough in their fitness level, my advise is take a horse back ride to the cafeteria and then push it on your own.

Every bit of this literally breathtaking trek is worth it. The winding, mostly steep paths through lush green pine and oak trees make up for the sweat that you will most certainly shed here. The National Museum of Bhutan, located in a 17th-century watchtower above Paro Dzong, is home to an impressive collection of Bhutanese artifacts including statues, paintings, and other forms of art. Originally built in 1649 to protect the dzong from invaders, the ta dzong was renovated in 1968 to house the museum's exhibits. The circular building boasts 2.5m-thick walls and is said to resemble a conch shell.
Finally back in its original home in the historic watch tower above the Rinpung Dzong after many years of careful restoration after a massive earthquake, the National Museum of Bhutan is a living storyteller of the kingdom’s deeply storied past, present and future. Even if you’re not here for the museum, come here for the stunning architecture or the breathtaking views.

Bhutan boasts a great variety of plants and animals that thrive in a range of environments from tropical jungle (Southern Bhutan) to high snow bound mountains (Northern Bhutan). The Royal Government of Bhutan has created one nature reserve, four wildlife sanctuaries and five national parks to preserve and protect its extensive bio-diversity. This protected land amounts to approximately 35 percent of the country. Bhutan has also created a network of biological corridors linking all of the protected areas to facilitate animal migration and access to seasonal food supplies. The Museum contains some preserved specimens and trophies of such animals as the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal, snow leopards, deer, a crocodile, butterflies, and birds. Be sure to note the Bhutan Glory, a species of butterfly unique to Bhutan in the world. Temporary exhibition hall The building constructed in 2008 to host special and temporary exhibition also houses a museum shop on the ground floor selling authentic Bhutanese handicrafts. Amongst the four galleries, one gallery is dedicated to the natural history gallery

The museum in Paro at the top of a hill was picturesque. It contains history of Bhutan formation..Buddhism in Bhutan...thangka art of Buddhism, various models of Buddha in different mudras, various bodhisattas and Gods worshipped in Bhutan,
It is a six floor structure, well maintained. There is a upper museum too, with display of various masks, flora fauna of Bhutan and their forests.
No picture clicking was allowed..so it was difficult to remember all.

While the museum has great views on the outside and was historically a watch tower for the Paro Dzong; the actual information and quality of the experience is below expectations.
If you have extra time and nothing else to explore in Paro, visit this museum. Else, walk around the city, visit the Dzong or just sit by the river and soak in the views instead.
This museum has massive room for improvement and is not a highly recommended spot in Paro.

We visited mid morning and there were already many locals either walking clockwise around the brilliant white building or sitting silently in a shady spot meditating. It was constructed in 1974 to honour the third king of Bhutan by the king’s mother. Well worth a visit when in Thimpu.

The National Memorial Chorten was built in memory of Third Druk Gyalpo and is dedicated to World Peace. The chorten is a large white structure crowned with a golden spire in the back drop of mountain range.
It is located close to the center of Thimphu city and is one of its most iconic monuments. Visitors will find elderly Bhutanese people circumambulating the Chorten throughout the day. Chorten literally means ‘Seat of Faith’ and Buddhists often call such monuments, the ‘Mind of Buddha’. The Chorten is an extraordinary example of Buddhist architecture and artwork with its gorgeous paintings and intricate sculptures.
Beautiful scenic beauty to catch in camera for unforgatable memory.

This stupa does not enshrine human remains. Only the Druk Gyalpo’s photo in a ceremonial dress adorns a hall in the ground floor.

The Thimphu Chorten, also called the Memorial Stupa, stands as a significant monument in Bhutan's capital, Thimphu. Situated on Doeboom Lam near the primary roundabout and the Indian military hospital, this stupa was constructed in 1974 to pay homage to the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928–1972). Adorned with golden spires and bells, it is a well-known city landmark. In 2008, the stupa underwent extensive restoration, and it is widely recognized as "Bhutan's most prominent religious symbol." Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje consecrated this sacred site.
The Buddha Dordenma is a towering statue of the Buddha that overlooks the valley and perched above a temple filled with art and exhibits. The statue emanates an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world, making it one of the most famous statues of Buddha in the world.
The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfils an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.
This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 m, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue; 100,000 statues of which are 8-inches-tall and 25,000 statues of which are 12 inches tall. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall.
Need to hike a lot to reach the top from the gate . on busy day getting parking near the gate is bit problematic. In that case you have to walk . This is free for all .

Surrounding the main statue at the Buddha point. Are these various statues in various sizes. The entire place look magnificent surrounded by the mountain and the blue sky. Sometimes you see cloud coverings the statue and it is a picture worth capturing when you are driving by. By the way, do you know that in bhutan, every Thursday is a traffic free day lowering the reliance on cars and less pollution. I think it's a fantastic move.

This giant statue of Buddha is visible from almost everywhere in Thimphu. But it’s majestic size becomes apparent only when you are up close. The base has a monastery within with some interesting statutes and artwork.
You can either climb the steep flights of steps or drive up to the base. Part of the steps are still under construction, and maybe completed soon.
Photography is permitted outside but not inside the monastery.
The admission fee is Rs 1000 per person for foreigners so you can consider just viewing from a distance.

I had the incredible opportunity to visit Dochula Pass in June, and it was nothing short of amazing. Nestled at an altitude of 3,100 meters, this mountain pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas.
Our journey to Dochula Pass began early in the morning, as we drove through the winding roads from Thimphu. As we ascended, the lush greenery and vibrant flora made the journey itself an enchanting experience. When we finally reached the pass, the sight that greeted us was absolutely stunning.
The most iconic feature of Dochula Pass is the 108 chortens (stupas), known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens. These stupas were built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives in a battle against Indian insurgents. Walking among these chortens, you can feel the deep sense of history and spirituality that permeates the area.
One of the highlights of my visit was the clear view of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. On a clear day, you can see several of Bhutan's highest peaks, including Gangkar Puensum, the highest unclimbed mountain in the world. We were fortunate to have good weather, and the sight of the majestic mountains against the clear blue sky was simply awe-inspiring.
There is also a lovely cafe at Dochula Pass where we enjoyed a warm cup of traditional Bhutanese tea. Sitting there, sipping tea and taking in the serene beauty of the landscape, was an experience I will cherish forever. The cool, crisp mountain air and the tranquil ambiance made it a perfect spot for relaxation and reflection.
In addition to the natural beauty, Dochula Pass also hosts the Dochula Druk Wangyal Festival in December, which celebrates Bhutanese culture and traditions with vibrant performances and festivities. Although I visited in June, the stories of this festival added another layer of cultural richness to my understanding of the place.
Overall, my visit to Dochula Pass was an unforgettable experience. The combination of stunning natural scenery, historical significance, and peaceful atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Bhutan. I highly recommend taking the time to explore this beautiful pass and soak in all it has to offer.

Dochula pass is located on the way to Punakha from Thimphu. The pass is a popular location among tourists as it offers a stunning 360 degree panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range. The view is especially scenic on clear, winter days with snowcapped mountains forming a majestic backdrop to the tranquility of the 108 chortens gracing the mountain pass.
Bhutanese families enjoy visiting the pass during holidays and weekends to picnic and simply enjoy the scenery. It is common to see families and groups of friends seated amongst the chortens, enjoying a packed lunch and hot tea. For tourists this is an ideal location to capture beautiful pictures of the Himalayan mountain range during clear, warm days.
Samll cafeteria is there where you can enjoy hot lunch/snacks . This is free entry location.

The temple is situated a few kilometers away from the Guwahati Railway Station, and is open for visitors throughout the year. There is a legend attached to the history of the temple, which goes way back to the mythological age. According to the legend, Sati the wife of Lord Shiva (one of the holy Trinities in Hindu mythology) took her life at a 'Yagna' ceremony that had been organized by her father Daksha, because she could not bear the insults hurled at her husband by her father. On hearing the news of his wife's death, Shiva, the destroyer of all that was evil flew into a rage and punished Daksha by replacing his head with that of a goat. Torn between misery and blind fury, Shiva picked up the corpse of his beloved wife Sati and performed a dance of destruction called the 'Tandava'. The intensity of the destroyer's fury was so overwhelming that it took several Gods to pacify his anger. In the midst of this struggle, Sati's corpse accidentally got cut into 51 parts by the disc in the hands of Lord Vishnu (also one of the Trinities in Hindu mythology), and her female genitalia or 'Yoni' fell on the spot where the Kamakhya temple stands today, forming one of the many Shakti 'Peethas' embellishing the rest of her body parts.

Such a divine and nice temple. So much cleaned and vivid. A must visit with family and friends. It was really a pleasure to be there. It feels so calm and peaceful after we have worshipped the goddess Parvati Maa. It is said that it is one part of the 51 parts of Maa Parvati. It is a manyata that you have to visit Umananda temple (A temple of lord Shiva). after visiting here to complete the visit. The Umananda Temple is around 5-10 km from here and you have to reach there by taxi or your personal vehicle and then take a ferry or private boat to reach the island as It is situated in between the River Brahmaputra. Assam has been blessed with so many grateful things but this temple just made it to a favourite place of Hindu devotees.

If you don’t have report then there are camps doing it in the city down the hill. Report comes in max 1-2 hrs.
Temple opens at 8am in winters. Due to COVID there was no rush in morning. At 7:30am there were only 10-15 people ahead of me. Darshan was peaceful and pandit jee gave enough time. Wonderful...
Please do plan to visit this temple and be blessed!

The Double Decker Living Root Bridge is a popular tourist destination located in the dense forests of Meghalaya. It is an iconic bridge that has been constructed using two entangled tree roots. The region around Cherrapunjee boasts of numerous such amazing living bridges, which have been formed by clever Khasi villagers over several decades using rubber-fig roots as natural pathways.
One of the marvels of nature and leaves you spell bound when you see it in person. A root bridge takes about 100 years to get completed and it is beautiful to see how the locals are guiding nature to make these bridges happen.
There is a third bridge in the making as well and the bridge is strong enough to take the weight of humans.
There are tall steps to walk down so you need to have strong knees and good enough stamina to do this. Best to visit this place early in the morning to make full use of your time and do this trek at your pace.
It takes about 2 hours to do this trek depending on your pace, you can do this faster. But the sight around is so mesmerizing that you want to immerse in it. Loved the butterflies around, pleasant breeze and also dancing plants in the breeze.
Do carry water along although there are snack and water stalls at the start but as you go forward there’s only one small shop at the end of the trek. So best to stock up. Overall, a trek to remember and the root bridge are nature’s art of marvel.

Morning is the good time to start the Trek. It took some 4 hrs to complete without visiting rainbow falls. No need for guide if the place is crowded. Trek with Full of steep steps downward and upward. Should travel with essential don't carry heavy luggage. Travel light

A great trek it is nice to see beauty of nature. it is approximately 6km from the starting point and 7km from the parking till the bridge and back. though the distance is far it is easy to climb as there are steps. if you want you can go to rainbow falls in the same path it just 3 more kilometre from the Double Decker Living Root Bridge but the trek is a little harder compared to the first trek. It is straight path from the parking to single decker root bridge to Double Decker Living Root Bridge to rainbow falls. if you love trekking this is a must try.it is a 13-14 km trek from the parking till the falls and back

Visiting the Double Decker Root Bridge was an unforgettable experience! The journey to reach this natural wonder was filled with breathtaking landscapes and mesmerizing trails. Walking across the two-tiered living bridge was both thrilling and awe-inspiring, immersing me in the beauty of nature like never before. Sprawling wildlife sanctuary providing a habitat for one-horned rhinos & birds, plus elephant rides.
Very good wildlife sanctuary.
It's nearer to guwahati. We visited there and saw a lot of single horn rhinos.
You can take a ride in Elephant or in a Jeep.
Best is the Elephant ride. If you go in a Jeep then one person will also accompany you from forest department.
We saw Rhinos, boar and wild pigs.

It was a pleasant experience. We were able to spot rhinos and elephants and just viewing them in the natural habitat is exhilarating. It was fun overall.

Tickets are cheap if you buy through gov website - pobitorasafari. Agency websites like pobitorawildlifesanctuary seems like genuine government website and charge double prices. Original charge for 1 jeep - Rs1800 approx, after other permit charges and everything it comes to 2400. We spotted many rhinos, buffalos, monitor lizard and sivet cat
The dramatic and multi-tiered waterfalls of Elephant Falls is a must-see for tourists in Shillong. The easy walking trail and stairs makes the waterfall accessible to all, with stunning views of the surrounding valleys.
There are two view points here one around 20 steps from the top but the falls are far for this view point so not much to see. Second is around 70 steps from the top but definitely worth it as it is very close to the falls end part. Also there is a playground and toilet near the parking area.

Amazing scenic view at Elephant Falls. Beautiful and sound flowing water from falls. Waterfall is divided into 3 steps - first step is doable for all but 2nd and 3rd step falls is quiet deep and not easy for elder people to see 3rd step falls.
Crowded and need to watch steps carefully. There are Souvenir shops, Clean toilets near parking lot and well managed parking lot. It is worth to pay Rs 100 per person to see this water falls. Steps are nicely made with comfortable steps.

I had the amazing opportunity of visiting the elephant falls of Shillong in the rainy season. The waterfalls were mesmerising. The water flow was great and with the lush greenery that was around the place and the white water made the place look even better. The water was very clean and you get to see three parts of the water fall when you visit this place. My pro tip would be visiting it during the rainy season because that’s the time when the water falls is in full bloom.

You can visit any of the three waterfalls, but the main one is the third. As you have to go down to visit the second and third waterfalls, it becomes harder to return to the entry gate since you have to climb 55-65 meters back up. By purchasing a ticket, you can also visit a nearby park. But its worth visiting as its really beautiful.

There are 3 falls altogether at 3 different levels. It is a very clean place where you will find bamboo dustbins to throw your waste. There are a lot of steps for reaching the bottom level. The waterfall was a little bit dry. Overall it's a nice place to connect with nature and take pictures

Not much to see here. There are three water falls and you need to climb down a lot of stairs to reach them. There are better waterfalls in Meghalaya. This is a good pitstop though. There are some small restaurants and local craft shops and a small park.

Beautiful location with water falls in three places. To go deep down to see all the three. Can take good photos. In the top office, traditional dress available for Rs 100 rent and then take photos in that attire. Steps are bit big and should take care. Winter is too cool and wearing proper winter wear compulsory. In the parking area food and local handicrafts available.

Elephant Falls in Shillong, Meghalaya, is a captivating natural wonder that left me awestruck. Nestled amidst lush greenery, this cascading waterfall offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Its name, inspired by a rock formation resembling an elephant, adds a touch of intrigue to the experience.
The trek down to the falls is an adventure in itself, with well-maintained pathways and informative signboards about local flora and fauna. The sight of water gushing down from different tiers is simply mesmerizing. The air is filled with a refreshing mist, and the sound of rushing water is soothing.
Visiting Elephant Falls is a must for nature enthusiasts and those seeking tranquility in Meghalaya's stunning landscapes. However, accessibility can be a challenge for individuals with mobility issues due to the steep pathways. Overall, this natural gem is a testament to the untouched beauty of Meghalaya and a memorable stop for any traveler.

A beautiful place with some marvellous falls in Shillong. Must visit during rainy season. But don't visit in December to February. If it is raining when you visit, do not worry at all. The shopkeepers will rent you colourful umbrellas just for Rs. 20. There are some shops that sell some local handicrafts. Bargaining is common. Clean washrooms are available. Some restaurants cater tea and Maggie. No vegetarian restaurant can be found. There is a place where one can get tribal costumes on rent. They will even dress you up with all accessories. However, they do not have cameras. You have to click with your own camera or mobile phones.

Nice and beautiful place enclosing three waterfalls. When we visited there were no crowd at all. There is entry fee of 100Rs however place is maintained very well. Toilets and washrooms are very clean hygiene. Even falls is maintained well by the authorities by keeping plastics away. Elephant falls is a three step waterfall. Probably during monsoon the waterfall is more impressive. The first step still had a lot of flow when we visited in March but the flow was smaller on the second and fourth steps. It was named after a stone nearby which looked like an elephant head, but the stone was destroyed during an earthquake.

This artificial lake has very peaceful and sensational panoramic view.
Flanked by hills on all sides and lined by striking roadways and bridges, the gentle Umiam Lake is one of the reasons why the Guwahati-Shillong route is considered one of the most scenic in the region. The lake was formed when a dam was built over the Umiam River in the early sixties as part of a hydel power project. Umiam Lake has become a favourite spot for many who come to admire the landscape.
The adjoining Orchid Lake Resort is a government-run facility where you can book lodges or grab a bite at the restaurant with fine views.

The Don Bosco Museum is located in the heart of Shillong and displays important relics and artifacts from different indigenous cultures of Northeast India. It is especially famous for its collection of tribal artefacts, which tell the story of the cultural history of Northeastern India. The museum is well displayed and takes about 1 hour to visit.
Don Bosco Museum at Shillong deserves at least two to three hours of your solid time if you wish to cover every corner of the premises. It consists of six levels of exhibits displaying cultural heritage of entire seven sister states of north east India along with snippets on the neighbouring countries. There is one cafeteria at the penultimate level to top and just like a cherry on top, there is a spiral grill covered sky walk to offer you a two seventy degree view of three fourth of the Shillong city.

It is the best place if you want to know about the North Eastern cultures and how it has grown with years and expanded. You will require around 1-1.5 hours to cover the 7 floors museum. If you are interested in the history and culture of the Northeast you certainly must visit the museum. You have to go floor by floor to see the different exhibitions. The layout is well mapped out. Nice well maintained museum. Very informative I must say. The ticket price is reasonable. You need to buy a pass for 100 Rupees if you want to use your camera phone. The best part sure was the Skywalk at the top which gives you a good view of the Shillong city. You need a good 2 hours to view the entire museum nicely.

If you are leaving Shillong without visiting this museum, then you can assume yourself that you have not visited Shillong itself for that matter north east culture. This is the best place in Shillong and thanks to the noble Don Bosco who painstakingly collected the artefacts, history, culture and traditions about the entire north east in the seven storied building exclusively built for that purpose. It is a hexagon shaped well and for every few steps there is a hall dealing with something about the culture of north east. If you are really interested in studying each and everything mentioned there then probably three hours are minimum required . Even if you glance through an hour and half is minimum. The place is restricted for photos in the sense there is a 100 rupee charges for taking photos worth its money value in what you get as a return to cherish by way of photos. Being in the town and famous for traffic jams many a times the tour operators skip this which is unacceptable. The beauty of the place is the sloppy pathway to the top like a cone ice cream to enjoy the 360 degree view of the entire Shillong. There is sufficient safety precautions including rubber mat to avoid the slippery during rain.

But the saddest part is it's not going to be clean for many days as you can see people throwing all the wastes like water bottles, plastic wrappers, beer cans and etc. in the river . Also people are bathing in the river carelessly and making it dirty 😒..

Do not EXPECT what you have been SOLD.
Ok, first things first - till you take the boat ride, this place deserves not more than 2 stars. It's only when you take the boat ride, that you feel that all the effort, time, unstructured booking process and the mess you went through was worth it.
The Good
The boat ride! The water was clear as we visited in May. It was all greenish and we had to wait for a good 1 hour to get a boat ride but once it started for the designated duration of 1 hour, we loved it. The calm water with green surrounding over the rocky cliff is mesmerising. Once you go below the bridge, suddenly you are exposed to a magical world. White rocks greet you overlooking couple of waterfalls amidst a lush green foliage. The cloud cover is omnipresent and the gushing river flow at one end can only make you wonder what rainy season would be like at this place. The 1 hour ride includes a stop along the river side wherein you can get drinks and maggi.
The Bad
We had to wait for 1.5 hours in the forest leading up to the river because of improper truck parking along the way. There are 2 entry points from Indian side of the river and one entry point (the big one) from India-bangladesh border side, once you cross the bridge. We faced so much traffic that we had to go to Indian side and then climb down many steps to reach to the boating place.
The Ugly
The entire booking system of boat is illegal, unstructured and i suspect owned and operated by Bangladeshis. You need some person from the parking area to accompany who would then try and arrange for a boat and that takes time! Weather and luck has to be on your side. They try to fleece you and will say only 3 passengers, however, you need to put your foot down and pay 800 for 4 people + boat rider in one boat.

Crystal clear water playing myrid colours of topaz, blue, aqua, green... I could see the bottom of the river. Amazing experience one must have. 800 rupees per boat, the ride is surreal taking one through the rocky cliffs and a beautiful suspension bridge at the top. I went during Christmas week and it was very rush but nevertheless I enjoyed. The place is very good to have picnics.

The view and stay were pleasant and beautiful.
So many water activities are there to enjoy.
Kayaking and cliff jumping are superb and organized well.
The toilet facility is terrible and horrible.
Daily Approximately more than 200 tourists are coming to this place. But Only three or four toilets are usable. And those were not cleaned and un hygienic.

The river is very beautiful. Clean transparent green water. Its like a dream. Depending upon the timing you have to wait and haggle for the boat as they will ask very high price at the beginning. It's very difficult to find parking in the narrow road as well. Not much food option. Other than that, very pleasant experience boating in the river. You can see a glimpse of Bangladesh in the background. The Rocky Road to get down to river bank is also very risky if you have kids and elders. That's why the 4 starts.

It serves as the final resting place for over 1400 soldiers from Britain, India, and other Allied forces who lost their lives during one of the most intense battles of the war. The Sideng market plaza located within Shaxi has been listed as one of the 100 Most Endangered Sites in the World Monuments Watch List since 2001.
The Buddhist temple Three Pagodas is an ancient complex consisting of three triangulated pagodas and a reflecting pond. Visitors can spend almost three hours exploring the temples and pagodas, which offer stunning views from the top of the last temple. The gold Phoenix and Pagodas are truly magnificent against the backdrop of massive mountains and clear blue skies in Dali. The area also boasts beautiful picnic spots and a vegetarian buffet for those who prefer it.
Beautiful, well maintained and impressive cluster of temples. Surprisingly not crowded. Very well worth a visit if you are in Dali. Take the shuttle cart service. Will save you a lot of walking (you'll still walk plenty regardless)

Photos really don't do justice to the pagodas. U have to be there to sense their magnificence. Against the massive mountains n the clear blue sky yet one will be awed by them, really worth a visit

Three Pagodas are one of the best preserved Buddhist structures in China having endured several man-made and natural catastrophes. The middle pagoda, built during 824-840 AD by king Quan Fengyou, is 69.6 meters (227 feet) high and is one of the tallest pagodas in China. The other two pagodas were built about a century later.
Saed Saydul — Google review
The whole three pagoda park is massive and to fully appreciate it, I suggest a day long trip.
It starts at the bottom with a huge car park, just a little north west of the Dali Ancient City. The entrance fee will set you back 120 yuan if you have not joined a tour but the ticket price is inclusive all the mini buses that operate throughout the park - trust me, you will need them. This is still a part of China and it is a MASSIVE park, and I mean massive literally. The three pagodas are just to mark the entrance to the site and the temples that follow on as you climb the mountain side get larger and larger, more grand as you go up. As far as I remember, there are five temples and each is preceded by a courtyard just as massive. I saw a lot of Chinese pilgrims alighting the incense at every temple, dancing and praying for good fortune. It was enchanting and mesmerizing to watch this Chinese lady performing Taichi moves before entering each of the temples.
The best part of the necessary part I guess is the free temple food about half way up. You get a bowl of rice to keep you going with vegetable side dishes. I suggest a little donation back... If still not satisfied, look back at the way you have climbed and you will be impressed by the view of the ancient Erhai lake. The kings of the ancient Dali kingdom has chosen the right site, it has magically qualities especially when the rain stops and the sun spills onto the ground.
Worth a trip, highly recommended!

The temple ground is huge and built in an upward slope, so take a shuttle to the top of the temple - 大雄宝殿 (Da Xiong Bao Dian) and walk down from there. The shuttle ticket and entrance ticket can be bought at the visitors entrance before entering the complex, with the shuttle ticket together they cost around 100 CNY.

Exploring the Dali's Timeless Charm
Venturing through Dali, Yunnan, was a journey through time and beauty, leaving me that sweet longing to return. From the tranquil Erhai Lake, where the waters mirror the sky's serenity, to the iconic Three Pagodas standing tall against the backdrop of ancient history, every sight was a marvel. 🏞
At the foot of Cangshan Mountain, the temple whispered tales of loyalty, devotion, and spirituality, inviting contemplation and peace. ⛰ Each moment in Dali felt like a step into a bygone era, yet the vibrant culture and warm hospitality embraced me with open arms. Amidst this wonder, nostalgia lingers, beckoning me back.
Cherry blossoms bloom along some parts of the city's roadside, adding a delicate touch of beauty to the enchanting landscape. 🌸 And as the radiant sunlight casts its golden hues over the temple at the foot of Cangshan, it illuminates the surroundings with a heavenly glow, enhancing the spiritual aura of the place. ☀

Erhai, also known as Erhai Lake, is a stunning and massive body of water in Dali, China. The area boasts a mild climate that feels like spring all year round, creating a serene and picturesque setting for visitors. The lakeshore offers plenty of opportunities for exploration, with highlights such as Erhai Park and Butterfly Springs on the western bank.
It’s a lake, but it looks like a sea because of its largeness. Apart from the beauty, Erhai lake is also diverse in plants. There’re lots of tourists attractions around Erhai Lake: Little Putuo, Shengtuolini,… Travelling around Erhai Lake is a good experience owing to its tranquility.
Béo — Google review
Pretty lake with a continuous cycling trail around. Quite a romantic experience overall if you overlook the rampant presence of touters selling hair braids, baloons, bike rentals and photography hire.
The trail is serene once you pass the retail strip. The trail is well made with craft precision especially on the curve bends. Nature is displayed quite spectacularly with the variety of marshlands, grasslands, wetlands and interactive paved areas.
I'd say avoid all hotel acomodations here as they are quite inflated in price and haphazardly put together.
M Wayang — Google review
The lakeshore can be explored by hiking. Highlights include Erhai Park and the Butterfly Springs on the Western bank. Islands on the lake – including Guanyin Ge, Jinsuo Island (金梭岛; 'Golden Shuttle Island'), Nanzhao Folklore Island (南诏风情岛) and Xiaoputuo Island (小普陀) – are also available for visits.
The lake is an important food source for the local people (Bais), who are famous for their fishing method: their trained cormorants catch fish and return them to fishmongers. The birds are prevented from swallowing their fish by rings fixed around their neck.

Erhai lake is a massive lake that the locals call sea. It is beautiful with many spots to take pictures, feed seagulls. I suggest to at least spend a day, using a vehicle to visit the sites around the lake. I personally rented an electric scooter from old town, and circled the lake using 2 days. It was a beautiful ride. I did it during Dec, which is quite cold. I believe it will be better by car.

Dali Ancient City is a charming destination for tourists, with its chessboard-like layout featuring shops selling handicrafts and local cuisine, as well as bars in a relaxed setting. The town's rich history adds to its allure, as visitors can walk the same streets that played a significant role in world history thanks to Dali's influence. A small museum also provides some insight into the town's past, though it could be more comprehensive.
Beautiful place.
I think the history behind the old Town really makes it interesting.
Dali played a large role in world history and we are able to walk through the same streets.
There's a small museum with some history of the town which is really nice. Wish it was bigger and went more in depth though.

Dali Ancient City, with its distinct charm and historical allure, earned a solid 4/5 in my Google rating. The city's ancient architecture and vibrant atmosphere create a unique setting that captivates visitors.
The well-preserved ancient structures, cobbled streets, and the iconic South and North Gates reflect the rich history of Dali. Exploring the city feels like stepping back in time, with every corner revealing a piece of its cultural heritage.
While the ambiance is undoubtedly enchanting, I found that some areas lacked clear signage, making navigation a bit challenging. However, this minor inconvenience didn't overshadow the overall experience.
The local markets, featuring handicrafts and traditional treats, added a delightful touch to my visit. The friendly locals and their willingness to share stories about the city's history enhanced the authenticity of the journey.
In summary, Dali Ancient City is a must-visit for those seeking a blend of history and culture. With a bit of navigation patience, the city offers a memorable escape into the past, earning its well-deserved 4-star rating.

I would say, this the best ancient city in China. For 3-4 square meters, it seems inside a huge shopping complex with everything you name it. I have been to many Ancient Cities in China but they are too sloppy and disappointing.
Dali Ancient City day time and night time is totally different. Day time is relaxing. Night time is exciting.
The best location to stay is near Po Ai Gate or South Gate. As almost the entire City is walking street, hotels near the Gates are the most convenient as you don't have to walk too far away from the main road outside the City.
Right outside the PoAi Gate has a great restaurant serving the best Steam Pot Chicken in Yunnan. It has a special way in serving. A bowl of wheat noodle is accompanied with the steam pot of chicken and a bowl of hot sauce too.
From Po Ai Gate to the walking street is just few steps beyond. The walking street has a man made stream in day time. In the evening, the sound of stream wil be replaced by musicians.
Overall, Dali Ancient City is a must to visit in China.

Typical Chinese touristic city, in the city where more or less it is spring like weather the whole year, just a bit colder then Kunming as it is a bit higher in altitude.
It's beautiful, especially the mountains surrounding it.
Not a lot western restaurants /bars if you are in search for that. Then better move on to Lijiang, having said that, it is a nice city with beautiful surroundings, not that far from Kunming (the city of eternal spring).
I rented a bike and it is wonderful to bike in the area.
Also I went to the mountains, modern cable cars available. Skiing not possible for those seeking that. But very nice views, high altitude.

Worth a visit. The 'Ancient' city appears more built for tourists. There is a different feel then that of most Chinese ancient cities; that is the presence of international influence. There are bars, while still very much Chinese, with a little international feel. If you are looking for a genuine old Chinese city this is not it. But if you are looking for a little West meets East you will probably like Dali.

This is a super crowded outdoor shopping center masquerading as an "ancient city". They concentrated on selling locally made merchandise, including silverware, fruits, and "flower" bakery. On an interesting note, these silverware shops would hire some guy aimlessly banging on a small piece of silver with a hammer to insinuate that their silverware was handmade. We actually bought something here so we like this "ancient town" better than the others

I stopped on the way to visit this park spontaneously. The park is clean and everything is good in shape. It is nice for a short walk but I was really shocked to see they have an elephant on a chain which should obviously amuse the visitors. Very sad to see an animal treated like this, especially in a park that deals with ethnic minorities and the cruel treatment of people. Therefore only one star. If there were the opportunity to chose zero stars as well, this would be my choice.

Nestled in the northeastern corner of the Green Lake lies the enchanting Bamboo Forest Island, a serene haven that has inspired poets and scholars throughout the ages. Renowned figures like Chen Rongchang, a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations during the Qing Dynasty, and Yuan Jiagu, the top scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, have penned verses extolling the beauty of the verdant bamboo groves found on the island.
In 2011, thanks to generous donations from private enterprises, the Bamboo Forest Island underwent a transformation into a captivating bamboo appreciation garden. Today, it boasts a diverse collection of over 20 rare bamboo species, including dendrocalamus giganteus, Chimonobambusa qundrangularis, Indosasa glabrata, penholder bamboo, and phyllostachys aurea. Amazing view when the weather is clear. Recommend to go early because the summit will get super crowded. It is beautiful up there but not sure if it’s worth it if you have to be in that queue. Another option is taking the stairs. The facility is well organized.

The highest summit of the former French Indochina colony. To get to the peak, there’re only 2 ways: overnight trekking and taking long gondolas. The gondolas are quite expensive and include multiple stops with a train ride from downtown Sa Pa. During the holiday seasons, the peak is really overcrowded and filled with travelers, so make sure that you make to the station earlier than usual.

If you guys are traveling to Sapa, there are two major tourist attraction in these area, which are Fansipan and Cat Cat village.
Fansipan is one of the highest mountain in the region. The idea is either take a cable car/ funicular and then a small tram to go to the peak region for sight seeing the mountain ranges and explore the pagoda and the Buddha statue. Or.
Explore the nature by hiking from the base of mountain all the way to the peak.
To go there. Just take a quick transpiration ride from the downtown Sapa city to go to Sunworld park to buy the tickets.
Since this is one of the highest mountain in the region. Be prepared for always constant changing weather conditions and high altitude sickness.

Needs 3-4 hour’s minimum. Have a little park at cable car station where you can click beautiful pictures. Dont miss the waterfall on the way in cable car.

Had to take a 🚂 up to the Fansipan station, then got to see a huge garden, then took a cable car 🚠 to the Fansipan, finally we walked up. We all really enjoyed it

Many steep steps

Then tram to the top
Come down steps to explore the temples in the clouds then cable car back to sapa
Takes around 4 hours

I had the best experience visiting Fansipan. The weather was very good; it was sunny with a little fog around 3 PM. I would highly suggest that you look at the weather forecast before going here so that you don't waste your money on a foggy view.
I recommend buying the package tickets with the peak rail because there are many steps to climb, especially when the weather is not on your side.

I really enjoyed Fansipan Peak. I had no idea it was owned by the same company as Ba Na Hills which I will admit, when I found out it really put me off. I was not of fan of the latter.
All in all though it was very professionally run. The cable car to the top was enjoyable although being April, visibility was low.
Aside from also being on a mountain peak, it felt like a very different experience to Ba Na. We did not use the Funicular mid way but chose to take the steps to the top. It was not a difficult climb with various points of interest to stop along the way. That said the Temples, Pagodas, statues etc… all recently constructed, did set the almost ‘theme park’ scene as they were clearly made for tourism purposes.
So I guess the bottom line is these are theme parks really, tourist driven… the trade off being access to one at one of the highest peaks in the area. Enjoyable if you take it for what it is.

Nice view from the cable car, great place !

Highest peak in Vietnam, 3143m. It's best to come here early in the morning and enjoy the wonderful views because it may get foggy fast. One may take a cable car up to the top, then walk down slowly, less tiring.

It was so cooling and spectacular scenic view at the top of the peak@Fansipan! Is definitely worth the walk up the 600 steep staircases instead of taking the monorail!

Super cool view 🤩I bought my ticket round trip 🚠 cable car 🚡 and train. I was so impressed with the smooth and safety I felt 😌 it was a great experience for me. I have been to many places with cable cars but this was the best one for me. I think that I took a right decision to travel Sapa before I am too old 😂

Basically a hit or miss. Check the weather before heading to Fansipan. In addition, DO NOT go on weekends due to the high number of tourists. PREFERABLY GO weekdays and even if the weather says clear skies, on top there might still have fogs. Don’t be discouraged and wait for the fog to dissipate. Stay there at least 1-2 hours (not counting the cable car). A lot of stairs. Be prepared for up and down a lot. DO take a lot of rests if you’re not fit. Stairs are also super steep! Go with a guide or group if you need help. Plenty of bathroom and vendors for drinks. Wear warm clothing too. And have fun most of all! Hope you’ll love it as i did!

Day trip up Fansipan and we’re lucky. Lucky because it’s a clear day in Sapa in autumn!
We pay our money at the failed shopping mall that is the station and head down to the funicular.
Tickets are 800,000 dong pp midweek or 850,000 on weekends. Extra 150,000 for the lower funicular and 150,000 for the upper funicular.
We chose the lower and the cable car figuring we’d climb the last bit. And we did. Lots of stairs but it was fun stopping along the way for many, many photos.
The cable car journey is spectacular and long - just over 6k.
The temples and associated statues are amazing, but nature is the star here. The views across the valley toSapa are stunning, as are the views that seem to stretch to China.
We didn’t succumb to the food court or souvenir shopping at all the different stations so can’t comment on them. There is a lot of ‘please exit through the gift shop’.
Was a remarkable day. Do it!
Small note - wear sensible shoes. Saw lots of women struggling with heels on the narrow steps.

Cabel car ride took 20 minutes to go to the summit.we visited the place at the end of December, and that time, the weather was not good. the temperature was less than 5°.top of the mountain they had a restaurant and some shops.price was not expensive.
If you are planning to visit the summit and if it is the first time you are going to visit a high altitude place, you may get altitude sickness, so be prepared.

We decide to come up at the foggy day because we didn’t want to miss our only chance to come up. The cable car ride is the most impressive. 3K took about 25 mins. Going through mountains, valley and streams. It’s absolutely worth of the ride just for that. The entire walk up is marble paved stairs. I can imagine how slippery it would be. The Buddhist temples and statues through out. The Buddhist singing all the way to top. It’s a very different experience of hiking. Summit at 3126m. The clear day would be amazing. Foggy day should be think twice.

Incredible experience, even on a cloudy day! Cable car is worth the price just on its own, amazing views. Some shops and restaurants at the top, not too expensive but very touristy and not much choice. I highly recommend you go to the peak, big are up there for photos! You could easily spend half the day there exploring!

Great views and experience. Take warmer clothes as it could be cold and very windy at the top. Cable car is absolutely impressive and not for fainthearted.

Not much visibility but still an enjoyable experience (learn to cut queue like the locals 😅) super crowded on a weekend.
Cable car and monorail up to the peak then walk down to take the cable car.
Wear a good windbreaker jacket and thermals, guaranteed to keep you warm throughout.

Went yesterday ( 24 March 24) and was expecting it to be sunny as it was almost 27 degrees in Sapa and hot but oh boy I was wrong. Super windy and cold here (16 degrees max with high wind) with low visibility. Luck of the draw really but nevertheless it was a very cool experience and was cool being up so high. At the station it was super nice and sunny.

this was on my bucket list but i would advise against going here during Jan - early Mar.
Visibility is absolutely TERRIBLE. it's cold and you will most likely get sick if you walk the entire way and you aren't in prime condition.
Nonetheless, it was pretty okay but just wish that I was actually able to enjoy it instead of just falling completely sick :(

If you don't want to hike, I recommend to buy the full tickets including the peak rail, this place is huge and there are much more to see up there. You can spend half day exploring and enjoying this place.

Beautiful hike up the mountain. A pity we didn't manage to see the sunrise. Opt for the cable car down post the hike, offers a different view of the region

The Muong Hoa Valley is a scenic area that features terraced rice fields and villages. The valley has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is well known for its unusual sandstone carvings.
Bac Ha Market, located in the Northwest of Vietnam, is a vibrant and bustling market that takes place every Sunday. The market starts early in the morning and is filled with a riot of colors as Flower Hmong women come to accessorize their beautifully dressed attire. This market features a cattle market, vegetable and meat stalls, wine vendors, and agricultural products.
This market is fantastic! Great for people watching, admiring ethnic minorities costumes and trying tasty local produce. Be aware of the lady in the photo. She pretends to be nice and friendly to the extent of hugging you just to make you sit at her stall and overcharge you for beer, coconut water and/or sunflower seeds and passion fruit (which btw doesn't cost 260 k dong). Her stall is right on the main market square close to the stage. Enjoy the market ☺️

Quite an experience visiting this weekly market. Long drive to get there but worth the visit. Large market spread over a large area selling just about everything! Lots of local produce, medicinal products, local ethnic outfits (being bought by local people, not just for tourists). Food and animal sections. Avoid the animal section if you would be upset by poor conditions for the animals.

The biggest markets I ever see, they sell everything there. I mean everything from horses. Buffalos, pigs , chicken , dogs , cats , rats to all kinds of vegetables that I have never seen before, highly recommended to visit the market if you are in the area.

Busy market on Sunday - buffalo sales have been moved to Saturday afternoons, only pig, dog, chicken and duck sales now.
Tour guide mentioned that stuff here is cheaper than sapa, could get a big bottle of honey for 100000 VND while in Sapa it's 200,000
Tried some fried foods

Big local market on sunday, from morning till 2:00 pm, near the mountainous highlands and the Chinese border.
It's considered as the largest and most colorful market in the area. Throngs of villagers from the surrounding hill tribes walk to the market to purchase and exchange food, animals, clothes and household goods.
A must see in Bac Ha.
Alice Nguyen — Google review
It is a very large market that doesn’t have many tourists so it is certainly quite authentic but it doesn’t deserve a day trip from Sapa. The journey is quite long in a winding road. The items that you can find in the market are the same than in sapa.

Located in the center of Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province, Bac Ha market stays near the borderland between Vietnam and China. Bac Ha Market is a weekly market that only takes place on Sundays. The colorful tribes market, selling everything from farming produces to livestock such buffalo, pig, chicken not missing the dogs and puppies. A row of open air barbers line the side lane of the river to the market (behind the row of shop lots. The buffaloes market is after the bridge if you don’t mine the dang smell, just follows the dropping on the road to the main trading area. Here you can watch the negotiation going on among the farmers and the buffaloes changed owner, dealing in cash.

Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark: This, according to an information area near the road, is the start point of the DONG VAN KARST PLATEAU. The main feature of the ride from here to Dong Van is the rugged karst (sedimentary limestone) terrain which route QL4C runs through, on the way to Don Van Township. The ride is quite spectacular with lots of small peaks (hills) covered with jagged limestone rocks. There’s a parking area just of route QL4C which has some information billboards and drink sellers. The side road which heads around the side of the hill goes through some spectacular terrain with excellent views of the landscape, across to the west. Take a short ride (2 km) up this side road to get some great photos.
Safe travels,
Mega.

Loved travelling by those twists and turns. As soon as you go up the slope there are few sellers selling fruits and other things to eat. Also, there are children carrying flower baskets for tourists to take pics along with them for a fee. We didn't take any pictures with them, so don't know about the price.
