Amazing views. This tour was great but we couldn't get as close as they normally do because the ice was still very thick at the beginning of May. Also saw part of the glacier fall off. An amazing trip if you get the chance to go

Amazing views of the High cliffs and mountains either side, barely wide enough for the cruise ship. Ship managed to get to within 1k of the glacier but was so sunny you couldn't see it due to glare. Nevertheless amazing experience to cruise through. You also see icy blue mini icebergs or growlers, floating down from the glacier.
steve&alfie — Google review
If you have the chance to go through the fjord, definitely take it! Everywhere I looked I would see something so beautiful. Our captain did such a great job navigating through the icebergs, the other ship couldn't make it through (felt bad for the individuals on that boat). We saw so many whales, seals, icebergs, the glacier, a breathtaking waterfall. Such an experience!
Yachai Reilly — Google review
We enjoyed the Tracy Arm Fjord. We visited on our way from Seattle to Skagway

We arrived here with a Royal Caribbean cruise. We saw the glacier but not too close. The fiord is beautiful.

We made the trip to Juneau to explore Tracy Arm Fjord. It was an amazing day. The ice bergs were so blue and the glaciers enormous. It’s difficult to tell from pictures how spectacular it all was in person.
Ryan Bibler — Google review
Wow what an amazing place. Beautiful fjords . A lot of waterfalls along the mountain cliffs, glaciers and icebergs. We took an Alaskan cruise and it’s in one of our itinerary. Absolutely beautiful..
Manny Alonzo — Google review
WOW. We had a perfect day. Sunny and warm. Boat took us to both sides of Sawyer glacier. Had a Glacier-iata. Beautiful landscape and tour. It's worth getting close.
Michael Mathews — Google review
Breathtaking views when you sail through this fjord. It ends in an equally stunning glacier! Well worth it and a must see.
Sandra Karr — Google review
Amazing experience boating through the tracy arm fjord! Highly recommend this experience if you're on a cruise or staying near Juneau. The fjord cliffs had waterfalls with rushing water in early June. Beautiful icebergs, glaciers, and animals.
Monica Herron — Google review
Beautiful fjord. Some of the prettiest landscape I have ever seen. I cannot recommend it enough. We went after a rain, so there were waterfalls everywhere. If you can get a tour boat into the fjord, take the opportunity. It is worth it.
Stephen Betz — Google review
What a magnificent glacier! Even it need over 2 hrs to reach but worth it👍.
Compared with few months ago ,we could see how different there are.
The Mount Roberts Tramway is a gondola lift that takes tourists from the cruise ship dock in downtown Juneau to the 1,800-foot level of Mount Roberts. From there, visitors have an expansive view of Southeast Alaska.
The best $25 spent in Juneau. Tickets are $25 and you can ride as many times you want. The views are great , the bar and dinning area on top very reasonably priced . The tram travels 1800 ft from street level to top of the mountain which offers some great views of the valley.
Steve Chuckrey — Google review
Weather was great for us ( just a bit foggy) so no snow blocking paths etc. Price was$45/person for whole day pass. We liked the idea of coming back later to watch the sunset. This was our first cruise port. The souvenirs were a pricier here than later in the trip. They did have some unique gifts, particular to the indigenous Tlingit tribe that included masks, paintings, carvings that I did not see highlighted as much at other port stores. The movie discussing Tlingit history was VERY informative and helpful and a great launching point to the rest of the journey. All people in my group were excited to study this people and their culture more. All individuals that worked there were kind and responsive. There were some trails and a coffee shop and a birds of prey rescue spot. One of our group was on crutches so we didn’t explore that much out and about.
Tamara R — Google review
Having done the hike up, we were very happy to take the tram down!
It’s a quick and scenic 8 minute ride.
If you spend a combined amount of $20 per person in cafe, restaurant, and gift shop, then you’re entitled to a free ride down- the one way fee is $20 per person so it’s a no brainier!
We bought some ice cold drinks and a few souvenirs, but you could have a nice lunch up there too.
Highly recommended!
Gustav — Google review
Great views of the town overlooking the port! The ride was quick and smooth going up and going down. There's a nice gift shop at the top with lots of souvenirs! One of the highlights of our trip to Juneau!
S H — Google review
Well worth it. Amazing views, very quick and efficient. Lines move quickly. LeAnn is very knowledgeable and even more funny! Incredible views. Take time at the top for the totem pole hike. Definitely worth doing.
Vince Golla — Google review
I loved the native performance and informative video. The ticket for the tram is $50, but you can ride it all day long. My friend told me there was a live eagle, but it isn't there anymore. The outdoor views from the restaurant are incredible but we didn't eat there. If you bring binoculars, you can watch mountain goats from your table. The gift shop is huge and has a wide variety of souvenirs you can buy. Beautiful views from the tram and very short ride.
Erin Ford Stiles — Google review
Lacking. The tram, the views and the experience was nice and worth the time and price but it could have been so much more. Maybe covid ruined it a bit but the restaurant was not too good and the gift shop could have been better too. It’s a closed space so the only things up there are managed by the tram. A little variety of places and restaurants and choices would make it better. My favorite thing was the video and native speaker in the auditorium.
Mark Tremel — Google review
Nice ride to the top. Informative short film on Native American history.
Also a rescued Bald Eagle is there with a very informative guide/caretaker that talks about this particular eagle and eagles in general.
Great views if the weather cooperates.
Ken P. — Google review
Very cool experience. The tram takes you up to the mountain where there is a nice restaurant and beautiful hiking.
Ash Diane — Google review
Definitely pretty views, but for $50 US a person it’s in my opinion not overly worth it. Juneau is very touristy to begin with, if you do the tram, wait until a little later in the day- there aren’t as many people and your pass is good for the entire day anyways. We went around 3:30 and had no line up. Nice staff!
As for things to do at the top, there’s a cafeteria style restaurant and a coffee shop and gift shop. Most things are just more expensive versions of what is at the bottom in the town Center.

Rode the Mount Roberts Tramway up to and down Mount Roberts (Roberts Peak) in early June 2023. Quick way to get in a short hike on the mountain. The tram operator provided facts about the history of the area during the trip up and down the mountain.
Saw a few bald eagles during my hike on the mountain. Gorgeous, lush area. The summit has a restaurant. When I visited there was a short film and talk about the indigenous people of the area.
Jani O — Google review
Located near the cruise dock but not affiliated with it, everyone is welcome to buy a ticket. The Mount Roberts Tramway is very much worth the trip. The views are quite nice and there is an interesting bar and restaurant. A film on the indigenous peoples from the area is informative and interesting. The tram ride is surprisingly fast and very stable and very worthwhile when in Juneau.
Louis and Elaine — Google review
If in Juneau and the weather is clear you have to go. Gorgeous views up and down the river. Hike to Father Browns cross for an even better view. Only a half mile, but uphill and on dirt and rock. Pretty easy.
Scott Freburg — Google review
A bit on the pricy side but the ride and views were outstanding. The operators are happy to answer questions and give you information about the trams and the local area.
Hiking trails are well marked. There are various difficulty levels so be sure to keep that in mind before heading out. Wear good shoes and watch your step as the trails can be a bit slick after it rains.
Well done movie about the native people and their history. The host was excellent and did a great job of making the pre-film talk interactive. He is an excellent drummer and storyteller.
We were disappointed that the nature center and eagle were not available to view.
Sally Garrison — Google review
While in Juneau, we took the Mount Roberts Tramway up to the top - it's definitely worth it. The views from the lodge and trails are really great. The trails were a bit on the muddy side when we went, and some were partially covered in snow - but were well worth the trek. We saw a number of bald eagles perched on the tops of some of the trees overlooking the town as well. We stopped in for a few drinks to the bar area - beers were reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Nugget Falls is a 377 foot tall waterfall that cascades into Mendenhall Lake at the base of the Nugget Glacier. The views of the nearby Mendenhall Glacier and large waterfall are particularly beautiful during autumn, when the colors pop. The hike to get to Nugget Falls is easy and takes about an hour, with plenty of great wildlife viewing opportunities on the way.
Great place to take in the sites while checking out the Mendenhall Glacier. The falls are amazing. I'm the flow is huge in the summer. We caught the early springfor on a spectacular day in April. Lots cool trails in the area
Joe Spadea — Google review
Wow what an amazing experience to see this place. The waterfall is a short 30 minutes walk from the Mendenhal glacier Visitor center. This place has glaciers, waterfalls, lake, forest and a beach. We came on a tour from a recent Alaska cruise last August and we’re really amazed how beautiful this place. There’s several viewpoint to the glacier and there’s a short 30 minutes hike to the nugget waterfalls. The hike is nice because you have some mini waterfalls along the trail and it’s forested areas. If you’re lucky you might see some wildlife like bears. Overall a nice place to visit if you’re in Juneau..
Manny Alonzo — Google review
It was an easy, out-and-back trail of about 40 minutes to reach the falls. The path was wide and clear. Well worth the walk to get a good view of the falls.
Pam S — Google review
Went on a 2 mile hike out and back on a flat trail to see the falls! It was just jaw dropping to see the power of the water as it descends down and creates this waterfalls! Definitely a check off my bucket list! It's amazing to see!
S H — Google review
I’m just now getting to adding all my adventures from my trip to Alaska. Time flies when you’re having fun and I couldn’t stop for reviews lol. Located near Mendenhall Glacier Nuggets Falls is a must! We paid for a tour to a few spots around town and the National Park was one part. Nugget Falls Trail itself is beautiful. Even more if you’re from the desert in Arizona like myself. I love for all things green and beautiful. The trail to the falls is paved and while pretty easy it could be a little far for some with issues walking etc. while you may make part of it with a wheelchair I wouldn’t recommend it. It was raining pretty good the day we went, but it didn’t detour us in the slightest. It was even more fun honestly . The end result was worth every second. The falls are beautiful and the sound of the water is unreal. You get an even more spectacular view of the glacier itself. Great photo opportunities.
Janelle — Google review
Breathtaking scenery, cool and relaxed environment. Trail is super easy and you get to enjoy seeing other smaller falls as you make your way to the beautiful and exhilarating Nugget falls.
Roberto ?RC_CH? Chacon — Google review
Highlight of my trip to Mendenhall Glacier! Walking at a moderately fast pace it took me about 15- 20 minutes to walk to the falls from the start of the trail. It's a good size waterfall and you can get pretty close. Easy flat trail with kids and seniors able to do it. The trail is busy and I didn't see any wild life. Definitely worth the short hike!
Nat A — Google review
What an incredible waterfall. The sheer force of the water was incredible to be next to. Short easy walk from the visitors center. It rained when we went so we were soaked but still was magical and awesome.
Wenter S. — Google review
Nugget Falls trail is a great place to hike to from the Mendenhall Visitor Center. It’s a brisk 30 minute hike 1 way on a pretty flat trail that takes you directly to the falls and next to the glacier. The sheer force of the falls can be felt wherever you’re standing.
Formed by the creek from the Nugget Glacier, the waterfall drops 377 feet in two tiers of 99 feet and 278 feet onto a sandbar in Mendenhall Lake, which is the freshwater pool at the face of the Mendenhall Glacier. The lake then drains via Mendenhall River into the Inside Passage.
This is a MUST SEE fun activity if you’re coming here and well worth the hike!
Michelle Foy — Google review
Such a wonderful area to enjoy some light hiking and photos. Be prepared for the trails at times to be congested but the overall trail is easily accessible by anyone walking and a decent portion is wheelchair accessible. Make sure to bring water as the gift shop doesn’t sell any drinks.
Michael Beckham — Google review
Stunning views! Cute and easy trail! Definitely one of my favorites in Juneau!
Monica Nieto — Google review
Worth the extra walk. Recommend taking the left path instead of the more paved right turn. It has creek crossings on rocks and lake side views. Way prettier!
The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center is a stunning tourist destination with exhibits and trails about the glacier. The center offers a unique perspective on the glacier, as well as information on climate change and the ecosystem of the area.
What a sight! The wife and I enjoyed the afternoon here very much. Everything was clean and well maintained. Plenty of walking trails to get different views of the waterfall and glacier.
Nathan DeMers — Google review
Wonderful experience. If you come on a shuttle, experienced hikers should go to the visitors center first for a more comprehensive trail map and the opportunity to get off the very well beaten path. The nugget falls and creek trails are almost too well made to even be called trails anymore. Very accessible and a brisk walk to see the glacial view and water fall. All-in-all, a beautiful and well kept park with attentive rangers and staff who look after the safety of visitors and more importantly, the wildlife and delicate ecosystems.
Hannah Smart — Google review
If you are able rent a car while in Juneau so you can relax and take all the time you need to explore. Mendenhall Glacier is one of those places you can go back to several times. But if you are not able to do this, and only have limited time, try your best to make the hike to Nugget Falls. It's a two mile round trip easy terrain walk. And if you are up for longer hikes there are plenty of trails for you to discover. If that's not possible no worries! There are several viewing stations and another area that has an elevated walkway that will give you quick and beautiful glimpses of the glacier and rainforest. You might even see of a bear there. 🐻 Always be bear aware anytime you are hiking or walking around brush and forest areas in Juneau. The elevated walkways are also ADA accessible. You can also book tours like kayaking in the lake or land on the glacier in a helicopter. Like I said, tons to do here!
Kitty Conroy — Google review
You can buy tickets right there if you want. If you have a park's pass it would cover you anyway. Seeing the glacier was amazing as well as the lake around it, but we got to see super blue ice and they even had a piece of the glacier inside of the visitor center that you could touch. There is a great viewpoint out the back of the visitor center on a deck where you can take some awesome photos. There are trails that you can take all around. We did not take the trails because of mobility issues, but there is an elevator right into the visitor center for accessibility if you need to and accessible parking very close by. The museum inside is really great at helping you understand how the glaciers changed over even the last 10 years all the way back to more than that and understanding the effects. There is also a short movie I want to say like 18 minutes long you can watch. My whole family enjoyed it. Ranging an age from 12 up to seniors so it was a great place to go in Alaska. We didn't take a tour bus. We took a rental car so that we could go as much or as little as we wanted.
Lynn Morgan — Google review
Wonderful experience go to the waterfall if you can. The hike is not hard. I have an injured ankle and was able to do it fine.
Trevor Shelby — Google review
We enjoyed the glacier and the museum. We watched a video and looked at exhibits. It was a great time. I'm glad we went. We took a city bus and walked instead of paying out the nose for a cruise excursion. Got a little exercise and saw some great views.
Laurie Powers — Google review
This is an amazing place. The rangers on duty were full of knowledge and their passion was infectious. The visitor center is a great place to start your journey and take in the exhibits and view from the front windows.
Kaweka Stoney — Google review
The view from the visitor center viewing area is incredible for those that don't want to or can't hike the trail. The trail to Nugget Falls was easy-moderate. Our young kids (ages 6-7) made the trip easily. There were several other trails as well that weren't as heavily trafficked. Recommend having water with you as NO food/beverage sales. Coming from a cruise we used The Blue Bus service instead of a planned excursion so we had as much time as we wanted to hike the trails and didn't have to be rushed.
Jenny B — Google review
We stopped here as a cruise destination on Norwegian Bliss. This was a beautiful stop and the hike in and out were stunning. Shuttles in Juneau were easy to find and with a bit of work much better deals than buying through the cruise. The only complaint is this is at least a 30 minute drive and the cruise ships don't give enough time in this port.
Phillip Wilson — Google review
Beautiful glacier to visit with the family with a few moderate trail options. It was more crowded when we went than other places we’d been in Alaska, but not too congested. I would highly recommend Nugget Falls trail, which is short, paved, and provides a wonderful view.
Gabriella — Google review
Beautiful place for hiking and photography. Lot's of cool spots for pics. You can easily spend half a day here.
Rafael Gonzalez-Arnau — Google review
Beautiful Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls visit! Wish we had more time to spend here as we were part of a tour group. There was a trail two miles round trip to see Nugget Falls. The glacier is best seen from where the Mendenhall sign is located although it was next to Nugget Falls, it's hard to really see it from that vantage even though you are close to it. This was definitely the highlight of our cruise besides Glacier Bay Park.
S H — Google review
The Mendenhall glacier in Juneau, Alaska is located next to a lake and has a visitor's center. I believe it is the only glacier you can drive up to. I visited in the end of July 2022. It was a good time to go as it was not raining and the glacier was not covered by fog. I took a short walk to the base of the visitor's center and got a spectacular view of the glacier. You can also hike in to get a closer view. The blue glacier colors were breathtaking. The visitor's center showed a short informational film about glaciers that I enjoyed.
Patricia Sarmiento-Orozco — Google review
It's cool. But don't get your hopes up too high. I mean, if you've never seen a glacier, then it'll be a 5 star visit. On the other hand, if you've been to several, it's mountains and ice...same. We had 12 hours in Juneau so we took the public bus for $2 each way. There's a walk involved, but I'll walk a couple miles to save $300 all day, every day.
Chris Walhof — Google review
If coming on a cruise, buy shuttle tickets from any of the many tour companies. We used Juneau Whale Watch tours and it was $60 for transport 40 minutes each way, a history tour of downtown, and entrance fee. They give you ticket to either ride their shuttle back or take another companies. We loved the hiking and photos so much that we stayed a few hours.
Overcast days provide the bluest glacier color. Bathrooms in the Visitor center building as well as trail maps and telescopes setup to see mountain goats.
Eating Food or flavored drinks, and smoking is strictly forbidden in the park due to bears and sensitive moss.
Hiking to the falls is very flat and easy for all ages. Many photo ops. Look for salmon in the creek if it is the right time of year. Eggs nest mushrooms, flowers and moss blooming. Keep an eye out for the friendly black wolf or bears who want to take you to dinner.
Shuttles back run every 30 minutes depending which company you choose.
Chris Glick — Google review
We loved this place! Our cruise stopped at Juneau and we took a combo tour including the glacier. Absolutely stunning! Make sure you check out the salmon in the stream going to spawn. You may or may not see a bear, but it is still worth it. We paid for a tour but you can go individually and an annual national Park pass will be accepted there

The breathtaking view of the glacier leaves you in awe of the raw beauty of nature. As you stand before the massive ice formations and shimmering blue ice, you can't help but feel humbled by the grandeur of this glacial marvel.
Apart from the glacier itself, the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center houses a delightful museum that adds an educational touch to the visit. It's an excellent opportunity for kids to learn about the fascinating world of glaciers, their impact on the environment, and the unique wildlife that thrives in this icy ecosystem.
The accessibility features at Mendenhall Glacier ensure that everyone can enjoy this natural wonder. With handicap accessible paths and bathroom facilities, the needs of all visitors are well catered to, enhancing the experience for families and individuals with mobility challenges.
Exploring the surroundings of the glacier is a treat in itself. The lush greenery, scenic trails, and occasional wildlife sightings offer an immersive encounter with nature. It's a great way for kids to burn off some energy while staying connected to the great outdoors.
From its awe-inspiring views to its educational museum and family-friendly facilities, it's a place that fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world and creates cherished memories for families and adventurers alike.
Overall, Mendenhall Glacier is an enchanting destination that captivates the hearts of both young and old. Mendenhall Glacier is a true natural wonder that offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages, making it an ideal destination to explore with kids.

A remarkable Alaskan wilderness experience! We arrived during a shower so we felt the wintry elements of freezing temperatures and rainy wetness up front and personal! The natural environment here is lovely but so very harsh that we cannot even imagine how tough and hardy the local inhabitants have to be to survive and alongside the wild life especially bears.
The Visitor Centre was small but well equipped as a refuge when the exterior gets too overwhelming. Simple interpretative displays give good insight into the surroundings. Enjoyed the short video. Excellent toilet facilities. Didn’t have enough time and endurance to walk to the Nugget Falls but the panorama from the viewing point does give you a very good impression of the glacial magnificence.
eddie chan — Google review
Great place to visit, go with company the walk may feel lonely and lots of signs about wildlife and bears although I did not see any on the way to the waterfall

Incredible place, beautiful trails, I would highly recommend visiting this spot. We only had 4 hours as our cruise ship stopped in Juneau, but we got a tour off the dock with a local company, they were awesome! The tour was about 75usd each. Basically a narrated ride to the glacier visitors centre, and they drop you there and you can walk to the actual glacier. Definitely not to be missed if you go to Juneau!
Ian Jolicoeur — Google review
Wonderful hike from the visitor’s center, around Mendenhall Lake, and up to the glacier. The visitor’s center itself is a beautiful piece of architecture. And it is so interesting to see where the glacier used to be before climate change has made it recede.
Jacob Gellman — Google review
Wonderful spot. Lots of trails. Sometimes some of them are closed because of bears. The glacier, though landlocked, is impressive. There's also a very scenic waterfall there. If you're not a hiker there still a lot to see. There are great viewing areas right near the parking lot. The facilities are great as well, with flush toilet bathrooms and a big viewing deck at the visitor center.
Casch52 — Google review
Outstanding experience. The visitor center has lots of information and is staffed by knowledgeable park rangers who can answer any questions you may have. The glacier is visible from the visitor center and they have convenient telescopes so that you can see it up close. Plenty of picture taking opportunities. Short 2 mile round-trip hike will get you two nugget falls which is well worth the trip.

We had a limited amount of time here during a combo ship excursion and had a fantastic little hike to Nugget Falls. Highly recommend. Easy and beautiful walk and a one of a kind experience. Took us about 40 mins there and back, with a few stops to take photos.

Fantastic! Took the walk to Nugget Falls which took approximately 16 minutes each way. Car parking plentiful and easy to find! No one checks that you’ve paid, however would recommend doing so as it contributes to the upkeep of the park.
Nugget Falls has some fantastic picture opportunities and would 100% recommend visiting.

A beautiful natural experience that's an easy short walk from the parking lot. Great facilities, readily available information and maps, clean parking area. Enjoyed my visit.
The Shrine of Saint Therese is a Catholic religious landmark located in Juneau, Alaska. This site is frequented by people from various religious backgrounds and features a small chapel which has become popular for weddings. The shrine also includes gardens and a stone chapel which is often visited by pilgrims.
This place is always Beautiful. My Mom and Me go to the gift shop and purchase coffee and a snack for our walk to the Chapel. Whether you are going for prayer or to sightsee or to just sit, it's a very welcoming establishment.

Oh my! The cab driver told us about this and you have to go! An air of history and sacredness enfolds you as you walk amongst flower gardens ( blue meconopsis poppies!), historical buildings, surrounded by mountain ranges and gentle lapping shores. Don't miss this!
The Fortress of the Bear is an animal rescue facility that provides a home for orphaned brown and black bears. Visitors can take guided tours, attend talks, and view the bears from a raised platform. The black bears are particularly lively and seem to enjoy entertaining guests. The local staff are knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The facility is accessible to all, with ramps throughout for those with mobility issues, as well as step stools for shorter visitors. Additionally, there is a gift shop on site.
We absolutely loved seeing the rescued bears up close. They have ramps everywhere, so those with mobility issues can still enjoy the experience. They even have step stools so the vertically challenged don't miss anything. They have a great gift shop as well.

I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Absolutely blows me away how close you can get to the various bears. I like how staff all know their facts and are polite. The facility is well laid out and clean for both humans and bears alike. Definitely a must see and remember to donate a few bucks they deserve it!

We totally recommend. The kids had a great time and it was pretty quick experience, so you could do it in 30-45 minutes. The area is pretty small to walk around and view. I would recommend not doing during a peek time of day if possible. The kids had a harder time seeing and I recommend asking for the crate so the kids can stand up to view the bears. Fun time.

We had an excursion here and it was a memorable one. We saw so many bears, and the staff was so informative and compassionate. It’s a great place to get your bear photos. A lot of areas, where you can some great pictures. On the second floor they were feeding the bears and it was fascinating see their reaction. I could tell there’s a hierarchy among the bears. One was chasing and keeping another one out of their shelter. But I just have to mention that if you don’t have a strong stomach, stay on the first floor during feeding. There are some interesting and aromatic foods bears eat. And back in the first floor holds a great place where you can get a bunch of souvenirs and snacks. Parking there is pretty limited though. The facility might be closed, due to hibernation during the late fall and winter months. Recommended!

This a a very nice place to learn about the brown bears here in Sitka. There are even a few black bears here from the mainland. It’s awesome to see how they all interact with the different bears. And they are even teaching the bears sign language. The owner has a very nice dream for the place. And they are making upgrades all the time.

Great place to see bears up close. It was crowded when we were there due to cruise ships but still enjoyable. If you don't book through a cruise I recommend lining up some form of transportation to get there and back ahead of time. Taxis and Uber were hard to find. We spent about an hour and that was plenty for us to hear about the bears, grab pictures, and do some souvenir shopping.

A big thanks to those running this facility. Thank you for saving the bears. They are absolutely adorably beautiful. They look happy and have the room to roam. Highly recommend, they are a non profit and any help they receive is shown in these bears. ❤️

Very cool place to visit, the bears are fairly active during summer and early fall. We had the opportunity this year to fill the kids pumpkins with treats and place them in the pen for the bears to find which was very exciting. Staff is great, very friendly and extremely informative. If you get the chance to visit during an event I would highly suggest it, to give you the ability to experience something not found elsewhere.

Bears were very active and we arrived during a feeding (snack?) time.
Saw both black and brown bears from safe locations.
The black bears were very animated and seemed to want to "perform" for us.
Local staff was happy to answer questions. Wish there had been a short video to see the history behind it.
All in all the trip was a little short (IMO) but that seems to happen with these group excursions.

We did an off ship tour and went here. I think it was well worth the visit. You could tell everyone working there cared about the bears and had a bond with them. It showed how intelligent they were when the bears paid attention when someone they recognized came to the edge of the enclosure. Very neat place to visit and I would go back.

This place was amazing! Not your typical zoo experience, these bears were active, moving, eating, they've even trained them to do sign language. We saw them eat, play, swim, and move about their enclosures. Bonus we saw several bald eagles perched in trees nearby. The staff were very knowledgeable about the bears and you could tell they were all passionate about what they were doing and trying to achieve there. I would definitely recommend a visit here if you're in the area.

I originally gave this only 3 stars because the description we had been provided by our cruise line did not indicate that this was a bear sanctuary. We had been informed that we would see the bears in their "natural habitat."
Fortress of the Bears quickly responded to my review and advised that the description we were provided with did not originate with them. They had indicated that they always describe it as a bear sanctuary.
Based on their reply I am very happy to rate this as a 5 star place. My wife and I visited the sanctuary as part of a cruise excursion and did enjoy our visit very much. We believe that the inaccurate description was provided by our cruise line and not by Fortress of the Bear.

Loved this place! It was so cool to see the bears up close. They looked really happy and well cared for. The staff was super friendly and took pictures of my mom and I with the bears :) I also loved the gift shop with lots of beautiful jewelry, fun kids stuff, and much more! They also had a nice large restroom for tour groups to be easily accommodated:)

We visited as part of a cruise tour. It's an old wastewater treatment facility that now houses a bear preserve. You can view the bears from a deck above. The site includes a gift shop as well. All in all it's fairly small (a handful of bears live there) and the setting feels post-apocalyptic. We were there during peak salmon season so saw bears out in the wild regularly that made for a cooler experience. That said, it's a nice place to take kids for a more controlled viewing of bears.
Jen Cupp — Google review
The bears are very cheerful and very funny. They are very creative and come up with anything just to receive more food. Some try circus tricks, some try the begging method, and many other creative ways. I highly recommend coming here!

Such an interesting and unique experience to be able to see local black and brown bears up close, and not through a cage fence.
This sanctuary is located in the old pulp settling tanks which are the remains of a large paper mill that closed years ago.
You can watch them “playing” and swim, and interacting with each other- they seem used to having people watching them from above so they just carry on as normal, completely unfazed.
Each bear has an interesting story about how they were rescued as cubs and ended up here, instead of being destroyed.
Beautiful creatures, and a fascinating visit.
This place get booked to capacity so you should definitely book in advance to ensure you can gain entry.
Highly recommended!

So cool to see the bears just hanging out in the rain. We took a tour to see the eagles and bears and it was totally worth it. Our guide was extremely knowledgable. Kids really enjoyed watching the bears! Highly recommended.

Absolutely one of kind experience here at Fortress of the Bear! Though the establishment is fairly small, it offers an unbelievably up close and personal view of all different kinds of bears! I also appreciated the informational signs about each of the bears and the explanation as to why they are there/how they ended up at the rescue center. Very cool and a bucket list experience if you love bears, wildlife, and nature. The gift shop is also super cute so be sure to look around to find a token to bring back!
The Alaska Raptor Center is an educational and rehabilitation facility for birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, and owls. Visitors can witness flying demonstrations and attend expert lectures while learning about the center's operations. The center also features an outdoor area where visitors can view raptors up close. Additionally, there is a nearby hiking trail for exploration. Admission to the center costs $15 per person.
It was great to see the bald eagles and other raptors up close. They start with a video showing you how they operate and help the animals, then you get to go in and see the rehabilitating eagles through one way glass, so they do not know that you are there. Then you get to explore the outside area and see all the other raptors up close. There is also a trail nearby to hike. Admission was 15 dollars a person when we went.

Very nice center, staff are very knowledgeable and polite. It is amazing to be that close to bald eagles and other falcons and owls. I also LOVE the nature trail they have on site. So beautiful. It does not take too long to visit the center, the trail will take you a while. Either way make sure to bring your camera and sense of discovery.

What a great place! All the staff and their vision is inspiring. We explored their facility and learned so much about raptors and Bald Eagles. And their efforts to rescue and rehabilitate injured birds. What a great cause! It’s not a huge place, but it’s a must see if you’re in Sitka.

What a treat to see bald eagles and other raptors upclose.
This place rehabilitates them until they are able to return to the wild. They do have a couple of residence as well.
Place is small but leaves a big impact to anyone who visits it.

This facility has a great mission and it's very interesting to visit and learn about the eagles, owls, and hawks being rehabilitated there. The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. In a great natural setting, and even has a short hiking loop through the forest next to a small river.

Wonderful experience all around!! We started our tour a little late (not their fault at all, it was a problem with transport through the cruise line) but all employees were very accommodating in making sure we experienced each part of the facility in full, and we did in fact leave feeling satisfied and educated! They bring out a real life (and positively gigantic) bald eagle out to show you things up close and personal with the bird. The handler was very informative, kind, and answered all questions with ease and clarity. I loved the outside hiking area that housed even more birds and didn't hold back on amazing views. This place truly deserves 5++ stars!
Support local, support the birds, and become a member/donate if you can!!

The Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center was a real eye opening excursion we went on. They rehabilitate large birds; eagles, falcons, owls and the like that have been severely injured and nurse them back to health. For ones that can’t return to the wild, they take care of them for the rest of their life!
Seeing these large majestic birds up close is a rare treat. Some of their wing spans stretch over 6 feet! They take such good care of these injured birds. I’m glad this was on our excursion list as it brings awareness of these facilities for injured birds. Each bird has its own sad story and they know each one and cater to their needs.
My favorite was Qigiq (snowy owl) and Tito (Northern Saw whet owl). All the eagles were beautiful.

Great experience. Quite a few eagles to see at any given time, owls, ravens, and hawks as well (mostly during the warm season). Beautiful hike down the trail will take you to the river and the Eagle pool, then up the Freedom Trail to see the muskegs and the clearing where they release the rehabilitated raptors. 583 eagles healed and released back to the wild as of today.

a huge highlight from my time in sitka! i walked from the cruise ship port (about 20-25 minute walk) and had a great time. it was worth it seeing the eagle and all of the birds up close! The gift shop is cute and there is a lot of knowledgeable staff here. The Sitka Raptor Center is a rehabilitation center for birds. There is a walking trail here that is really nice and would recommend walking on if you feel comfortable. A must while in Sitka!

I really like this place due to I got an opportunity to meet the eagles very close and see how big they're in reality. Normally seeing an eagle from a distance looks like a small bird but in reality it's huge! I really enjoy seeing and owls. One of the white owls reminded me of Hedwig. Also, one of the employees brought the owl to us and told us how the owl was saved. Quite an interesting tail! But its true story!

I recently visited the center and was blown away by the incredible work they do. The sanctuary is located in a beautiful natural setting and provides a safe haven for injured bald eagles, falcon, owls, etc. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and passionate about their work, and it shows in the care they provide to these majestic birds.
During my visit, I was able to see several bald eagles up close and learn about their behavior and habitat. The guided tour was informative and engaging, and I left with a newfound appreciation for these amazing creatures.
In addition to their rehabilitation efforts, the sanctuary also works to educate the public about the importance of protecting and preserving bald eagles and their habitats. I highly recommend a visit to this sanctuary, not only for the chance to see these incredible birds in person, but also to support a worthy cause.

Raptor (bird) sanctuary where they rehabilitate hurt animals like eagles and hawks. They have a few permanent residents too including some hawks, owls, bald and golden eagles, and more. We got to meet a snowy owl as part of our tour too, which was a lot of fun. Staff are fun and knowledgeable. Parking available on site and there's a trail to walk and see the resident birds too.
Caribou Crossing Trading Post is a must-visit destination in Yukon, offering a unique experience with its Wildlife Museum featuring taxidermy exhibits of ancient and modern Northern creatures. The site also boasts a wildlife gallery, petting farm, and restaurant. Visitors can enjoy dog sled rides at specific times and interact with real sled dogs and puppies available for adoption. Additionally, the trading post provides clean facilities and friendly staff.
Greedy alpacas, aggressive goats, grumpy donkeys, elegant Spirit… always feel refreshing after visiting there. Food is awesome too by the way.

A pleasant trip to see sled dogs and take a dog sled ride . No snow though. Just ATV ride with dogs attached to give them exercise in the off season. Included lunch: BBQ chicken, Cole slaw, salad, lemonade. Donuts.

Came here during a bus tour and we loved everything it had to offer! They had a dog kennel with sled tours as well as a wildlife museum and spots for food & drink. Chicken lunch was quite good & they offered complimentary tea & coffee as well as donuts. Just wish we had more time here!
For the dog kennels:
Came here during the summer so it was definitely not in season but was offered a great experience regardless! Admission to the kennel itself a free but dog sled tours are $45 per person for a 15 minute tour. While pricy, you can definitely see why it’s well worth it. They take great care of their dogs & even foster puppies as a partnership with the local humane society. Definitely recommend this!

It's not a bad place but not great either. Too long of a drive, food is mediocre. They have petting zoo with like 10 animals. The taxidermy museum is good
but nothing that you have not seen if you have been in a Natural History Museum like the Smithsonian. The staff is helpful and nice. We didn't ride the sleds because what I saw was a extralong four wheeler pulled by the dogs. Not impressed at all. Just the scenery in the way there and back.

An excellent spot for a bus stop with a great lunch.
The BBQ chicken lunch was flavourful and filling, with unlimited coffee and cinnamon doughnuts. Who could ask for more!
The museums on site are full of curiosities and artifacts from local history.
Lots of t-shirts and miscellaneous tourist stuff. The friendly staff were helpful. The washrooms were clean and modern.

What an amazing place! We rented a car and drove 2 hours from Skagway. We bought the package before we went, and it was worth every cent! We started with a summer dog sledding tour followed by a short talk about this amazing sport. We then had a great BBQ chicken lunch. Great gift shop and wildlife museum. The petting zoo was amazing as well. What an experience in Yukon, Canada! The drive to get there is also fantastic!

Open in the summer,Carbon Crossing attracts tourists and locals alike. Located 45 minutes from Whitehorse or about an hour and 30 minutes from Skyway Alaska you will see tourists from both sides of the border.
There is a gift shop with Yukon items including clothing and toys. A full restaurant which primarily services bus tours and a cafe which serves sandwiches or snacks like ice cream.
The real attraction though is the live animals. You can pet horses, llamas, goats, and cute husky puppies. If you're up for seeing how huskies love to run you can book a mini sled pull where they have a team pull a side by side converted for guests.
If you are looking to get close to larger and more dangerous animals you can do that too. There is an exhibit with bears and various wild cats that are showcased.
Finally if animals aren't your thing, try your hand ar gold panning where you could catch some real gold with a steady hand, a good eye, and some patience!
Dylan Soo — Google review
Interesting place to spend an hour or so. The husky ride is more of a ride on a powered golf cart while the huskies run in front. The BBQ chicken isn't the best but it's edible if you're hungry, otherwise full up on the bread.

You have to try the dog sledding. It is so much fun, and the dogs are so smart and amazing! But watch the bumps! :-)

Chicken dinner supplied as part of our excursion was OK. I found it a little difficult to eat with the supplied wooden cutlery, but it's all in the name of reducing plastic use. The BBQ sauce was tasty. I found the coleslaw a little dry, I prefer a little more mayo on, but this is just me. The baked potato was a good size. Again, I would have preferred sour cream to go with it, but in the rustic flavor of the meal, it was OK.
The RCMP museum and animal taxidermy is a must see, along with petting the puppies. Let me know if the Daal sheep have moved.

So cute. The petting zoo was great. All the animals would pose with you for a pic. There were a bunch of husky puppies to play with. Inside was a large room full of stuffed animals from their taxidermist. The provided lunch was good. There was a vegetarian dish, not sure what that was. We had chicken, potatoes, bread, and coleslaw. The chicken was very tender and juicy. They have a little gift shop for souvenirs. Clean bathrooms.

We were here 6 years ago with our teenage kids when we were in Skagway for a port day. Our kids had fond memories of the dog sled ride, petting farm with the huskies, and museum. We were in port again last month with our kids and teenage grandkids. We didn’t go with a tour company both times and beat the crowd by coming early. We rented a car in Skagway both times. The staff are very friendly. Our kids and grandkids tell us that it was one of the highlights and memorable experiences they had during our Alaskan cruise. This is a great place for the entire family.

Went to Caribou Crossing on a tour of the Yukon. A really cool place like walking into the wild west. The food there was not bad, the chicken didn't have a lot of flavor and tasted old. But the rest of the food was not bad. The food was part of our tour through Viator. The people were friendly. They had sled dogs and various other animals like a petting zoo. Prices for souvenirs were a bit pricey but was expected.

We drove from Skagway to Carcross after coming into Skagway on a cruise ship. It was a beautiful and scenic drive even seeing a bear alongside the highway and visited Caribou Crossing Trading Post. The staff was amazing being both friendly and knowledgable and the dogsled experience was a once in a lifetime experience and well worth the trip. The lunch they served was great and nice to be able to have a cold beer in the restaurant as well. The kids loved the puppies, goats and walking through the museum. Definitely recommend!

We arrived here on a tour bus from a CRUISE SHIP. We had a nice meal of BBQ chicken, Cole slaw & roasted potato. There was self serve coffee & tea & some delicious donuts included. There was also soda & beer for sale. All of the meal staff were friendly & upbeat.
There was a nice gift shop that lead to a RCMP Mueseum & I think also a taxidermy Mueseum. Then there was a petting zoo area with goats, donkeys, a horse & pony, & PUPPIES 🐶! The puppies were being held for the humane society but there are also sled dogs.
Our family has 5 kids from 17 to 8. We all had fun. A bonus is we made it the Yukon. WOULD go again.
The White Pass & Yukon Route Railway is a historic train ride that takes you up steep tracks carved into the sides of mountains, through charming small towns and then across glaciers and waterfalls. It is a must-do for those visiting Skagway for the first time, as it combines history and nature to give you an amazing glimpse of Alaskas stunning scenery.

Great excursion! The train cars appear to be brand new and well maintained. There is a stove in each car to heat it if necessary. There is also a bathroom and water. You can either view from your seat or go outside to the viewing platform. Due to covid border restrictions, the train is currently only doing round-trip journeys to the Canadian border in 2022. Super unique experience in Skagway! Took this train on the way back after spending a day in Yukon and it was well worth it. This is a must do if you’re in the area. The train ride is very scenic and beautiful with plenty of opportunities for pictures. It is staffed with park rangers who are very knowledgeable of the area and who can answer any questions that you may have. The train cars are warm and weatherproof so if you are in inclement weather, this would not be an issue. That being said if it is very foggy out, it would be a waste of time, because so much of what makes us a great trip is the scenery which you would miss if you were fogged in. Lots of opportunities to see wildlife, especially eagles.

What an amazing train ride. The history that was told along the ride was captivating. The train had about 100 people but there was plenty of window space to get your own window views. The views from this train ride were spectacular. The history comes to life riding in the old rail cars. It's amazing to think this rail line was built by hand and even more incredible, people hiked this route to get to the gold rush in the Yukon. Very cool experience. Experienced the railway ride from Skagway to Bennett and the Yukon all on a glorious summer day. I would give this 6 stars if possible. The terrain covered by this railway cannot be matched. Mountains, lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, the best of our planet. The seating was very comfortable and the staff very friendly. The White Pass Railway Tour was absolutely outstanding! From start to finish, it was an adventure filled with breathtaking scenery and historical insights. The guides on the train were not only informative but also incredibly engaging, sharing fascinating stories about the construction of the railway and the Gold Rush era. I felt like I was transported back in time, experiencing a piece of history.
The train itself was comfortable, and the large windows allowed for uninterrupted views of the awe-inspiring landscape. The route, with its twists, turns, and dramatic changes in elevation, kept me captivated throughout the journey.
I couldn't get enough of the stunning waterfalls, the mesmerizing Summit Lake, and the majestic trestle bridges. And when we reached the White Pass Summit, the feeling of accomplishment and the panoramic views were simply unforgettable.

We enjoyed our train ride. It felt plenty long, ample opportunity for photos and video. We even briefly crossed into Canada before looping back. I gave it five stars, but I do wish there was an option to wear a headset to listen to the guided tour. We had an unusually loud group of people in our particular train car, so we couldn't hear the majority of the information over the speakers that the guide was sharing. We enjoyed the scenery and appreciated that there was a restroom in each train car. They also offered complimentary bottled water. Overall, we loved our train ride.

Formerly a brothel, the lively Red Onion Saloon in Skagway is an amazing stop for drinks and American eats in a lively setting. The bar is frequented by tourists and locals alike, with its history being a main draw. Plus, at the top of the stairs there's a museum dedicated to America's oldest profession - prostitution.
This place is hands down the best brothel I’ve ever been to. Great pizza and fantastic margaritas! Also has an amazing vibe, kind of like the dive bar you’ve always wanted in your life.
Krista Dixon — Google review
Fun, historic, restaurant serving food and alcohol in a 1800's-style brothel atmosphere. The "Ladies" (including the waitresses) wear period-style costumes and play-up the characters of the time, along with the double-innuendo and word-play you'd expect in such a location.
This is a popular site to visit when the cruise ships come in, so there may be a wait for seating - especially during meal-hours.
Dave Skorupski — Google review
We visited here on a stop during our excursion while on our cruise on the Celebrity Millennium. Great little stop. Tour guides were in period costumes and were both friendly and funny. Tour showcased some local history.

Home of the $10 "Quickie"... Tour. Once a place for lady's of the night and men of the gold rush era to come together and enjoy the warm of each others company. The saloon gets a old time feel all staff are dressed to the era. The bar offers local brews and you can also get a bite to eat. Wraps and pizza.
Hungry Sparrow — Google review
Meet historic building that used to be a brothel. They still give tours of the upstairs, and the downstairs is a bar and restaurant. I know it seems very cliche, but we ordered the pizza and the nachos and it was fantastic. Especially after being on cruise food for several days. They offer a tour for $10. I think our meal was about $25 total. Which is not bad considering you were in Alaska
My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what I expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special whether it was service, food, staff, etc., and a 5 means I was blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing with no offer to correct the experience and a 1-star rating was terrible

Oh just a really fun place. Good food. Atmosphere was awesome. We took the tour from the ship that included breakfast and drinks and a tour and stories. Neat ro hear of the history nad fun to have breakfast with Madam Onya Johnson and Madam Ophelia Cockburn. Take the tour if you have time. Yes they practice good covid protocols.

Went here for dinner on a recommendation and was not disappointed. The pizza was very good and the staff very engaging. Awesome saloon vibe and great place to relax after a day of exploring. If you find yourself in Skagway for any reason, this place is a must.
Mel Brousseau — Google review
We did not want to eat dinner on the ship so we decided to walk back into town for some dinner. Red Onion Saloon was a blast. The bar and original floors are just beautiful. It's an old Brothel so a really unique experience. The food was very good and the service was nice as well. They also offer tours. Highly recommend giving this place a shot. (Beer was also cold and tasty.)

We walked by this place at lunch and the line blocked the sidewalk and a lane of traffic.
We went back into town and grabbed 2 pizzas to take back to the ship, and I understand why.
Fantastic pizzas. Friendly service. Great vibe.

Fun historic Bordelello Breakfast, gold rush cemetery & city tour. Bloody Marys & other Frank's included. JIM was a great guide
Nedra Crouse — Google review
This place is unique. An old timey saloon with its own fun quirks. At one time it was a brothel and the original structure, crib rooms and trinkets are still on display. The "Quickie" was a fun 20min tour of the Brothel Museum and it was worth it. The girls were FABULOUS. They did a great job explaining the history and creating fun ways to make little things (like wallpaper, IYKYK) incredibly interesting.
The pizza is delicious. The Dirty LaVoie is wonderful. The server we had on a busy Saturday night was quite the ball of joy. Even though she stayed WAY later than her shift was (I think someone called in ? Or something) she stayed and helped set up the band coming in (New Twin) and still waited all the tables. She even recognized us the following day when we came back from the Quickie.
Definitely a stop you should make while you're in Skagway.
BreeAnna Erickson — Google review
This was a nice little stop with a brothel museum upstairs.
The food was good, and the museum tour upstairs was pretty cool. I'm not sure it was worth $10 a person, but it is what it is. The server was a little short it seemed and failed to explain that we could pay the brothel for fee to her on our bill and needed to pay cash. The madam, Willie, was pretty great actually.
Matthew Blackburn — Google review
Totally worth the visit. The cocktails are great, but make sure you try the local distillery selection of hard liquors. Our favorite was a rye from a neighboring town.
The $10 tour couldn’t have been better. Our guide was informative and funny and completely made our day.
The bartender (I think her name is Katie?) was super fun and knowledgeable. We had the best time for under $100
While we didn’t try the food, the couple next to us had the hummus platter, which looked amazing and we might go back for it on our way from the cemetery. The couple said the plate was really great and the bartenders said ‘Told ya so’, which to me means it’s a *thing* there.
The place smells amazing too. Like pizza and good times. Absolutely worth an investment of time!

Our group did the brothel tour and it was very well done by our guide. They played the part in a fun but very educational way that kept you interested - highly recommend!

Took the Brothel Tour with Madam Betty. No worries, it's a walking tour of Skagway. It's a great history tour that tells the sordid and dangerous times during the gold rush of the 1800s. Betty was fun, sassy and very knowledgeable about everything. It was eye opening about life back then, for both the miners and the ladies.

Pizza was on point! In all honesty, the cauliflower crust was better than the regular! On top of the loaded nachos being perfectly made!

A very interesting little saloon in the heart of town that should be on your must-see list for Skagway. We only had a beer here but they do have a food menu as well. Prices for both food and drink are fair. They offer upstairs brothel tours at designated times for $10.
I had a wonderful experience filming with animals. Getting up close and interaction with the animals is unforgettable. Steve works very hard to care for all of them, and he was very gracious in accommodating our requests and making us comfortable! His animal family is fortunate for his experience and care.
Thank you for everything Steve!
Danielle Dufault — Google review
Steve is a knowledgeable host that clearly has a close bond with his animals. Patrick really made my visit so memorable, making sure my sister, son & his fiance and I had one on one time with the animals. I wish I would have gotten a photo with him. I wanted to stay in one of their cabins and never leave. I look at my photos every day. The porcupine was my favorite. And I'm from there, not even a tourist. I returned to Seattle and still think about The Wildlife Center every day.

This place is really cool. Animal sanctuary in Haines Alaska, several miles outside of town.
The owner is a happy eccentric whose love and passion for animals pervades his life, from all indications.
Wolverines, moose, caribou, mink, bears, and other animals can be seen here - all well-cared for by the staff.
Vincent Watson — Google review
Interesting place where it is obvious that there is much love and care for the animals here. Informative tour overall.
The only downfall is that the tour group was too large so it made it uncomfortable to stand around and wait your turn to see the animals. I think that our tour could have been split into 2 groups instead of one large one.
The bus ride from the cruise port was great. The bus driver was EXTREMELY interesting and full of fun stories. The bus ride to and from the Kroschel Wildlife Centre was one of our most favorite bus rides in all of the tours we have taken... and we take A LOT!!!
Tori Carter — Google review
This place was amazing! It was hotter then Texas that day and I loved every minute of it! The guides are awesome and know so much about the animals and have great relationships with them. They work so hard at keeping the animals in a great atmosphere still wild and natural. I wish I could stay and just hang out with them.
Carrie Cook — Google review
I would give this 6 stars if I could. We went as part of a cruise ship excursion and everything was amazing from the bus driver to everyone working there. The animals were well cared for and we got amazing photos. We had a 2 year old with us and you will need to watch kids closely as these are wild animals (no fingers in fences!). Like others said it was a decent amount of walking on dirt paths and not stroller friendly. There was a gift shop at the end. There were also a couple of bathrooms.
Amanda Weissman — Google review
Toured the center as an excursion via Princess Cruise Lines and by far one of my favorite excursions of the trip. Connecting to animals was amazing and my daughter had a blast. She was very fond of Duck Henry and his caribou neighbors, although her joy of feeding them may leader to an ungulate obesity epidemic.

Steve was amazing at teaching us and keeping our kids attention. The experience is a must!!! Worth every penny and they truly care about the animals

We had such a great day at the Center. Mr. Kroschel was a great story teller of the animals. We learned so much and enjoyed each and every animal we were able to see. Our bus driver, was excellent. She told us so many local stories and helped us spot wildlife along the way. If you are not sure if you should do this tour or another. Choose this one. You will be happy you did.

What an amazing experience. This is by far one of if not THE best excursions I've taken while cruising. Steve, Mario and Mario's daughter were fantastic. They are information and use humor to keep things lively. They should be nominated for a humanitarian award for all that they do for education and the environment. This is a long review so in the words of Steve. "Hey Mario, they are losing interest so it's time to move along"
Lonely place in the world. You can hear the Angels whispering and smell God's love. A great moment to ask why on earth we live, where are we from, and where we will go.
Long, accessible glacier in Thompson Pass, viewed from a lookout spot on Richardson Highway.
Views of Worthington Glacier and surrounding Thompson Pass are worth the hike to see them.
Nash Wilson — Google review
A perfect stop on the way from Anchorage to Valdeze. The maintained trail is very short, so if you want a closer glimpse of the glacier, you need to be a bit adventurous and make your way over the rocks and rubble yourself. Make smart choices, and you can get right up to the glacier. The river runs right out of the glacier to the beautiful lake below. It is picturesque whether you hike to the glacier, or enjoy the view from the overlook.
Anne Veldhuisen — Google review
We just went out to Worthington Glacier the second week of September, didn't realize that you can't actually touch the glacier like a lot of reviews had said. Apparently those are not updated. The woman running the show out there, greets you and takes your $5 for parking, and her dog (I think his name was Tucker??) Were super friendly and very helpful with answering any questions about the geography , etc (including that you really haven't been able to touch the glacier in at least 5 years). It's a beautiful drive out through Thompson Pass though so would still recommend as a stop over.

Amazing, definitely stop by. We saw a million salmon and sea lions were feasting away. Watch by the shore or you can also do a self-guided tour outside and watch videos and learn about the hatchery. Very cool experience. I came once in the early afternoon and again later at night and the tide changed so much we were able to walk way out in the evening. We were hoping to see a bear, but no such luck this time. :-)

Awesome, free activity to do with the family and very informative. We came on Sept 26 and got to see sea lions, bald eagles, and salmon. We saw bears on the drive out!

Absolutely stunning view. Teeming with wildlife and very informative about how the hatchery works with salmon with a self-guided tour. Lots of seals, sea lions, otters, and occasionally a bear during peak season in July-August. One of the best places to go in Valdez.

This is a short ride north of the town of Valdez , Alaska, and well worth the stop. We saw all kinds of sea lions feasting on the pink salmon. Found out later that this is the largest pink salmon hatchery in North America .Check out my YouTube video about Valdez and you can hear the sea lions growling at each other.

Before reach the hatchery keep an eye open for the BEARS! on the side of the road. Yes! We did and we saw bear. We spent almost an hour just to watch the bear catching and eating some fish. At the hatchery we saw a million salmon fight to reach the top, spawn, and lay their eggs. It was Amazing! How they learn to come back where they were born! August 2020

We arrived after hours, but there is a nice, outdoor visitor display and viewing point. Video screens and info displays show and describe how the process works. You can also see the salmon swim upstream in the ladder steps system to the large vats. We saw tons of fish swimming upstream in the weir. We also got lucky and saw a bear with her 2 cubs on the other side of the bridge catching fish, plus a group of sea lions hanging out in the calm waters nearby. A very nice bonus.

It wasn't open inside but has great self-guided tour explaining everything about the different salmon life cycles. The babies need phytoplankton which climate change is affecting. It is a miracle of nature how sooo m species depend on salmon bringing nutrients from the ocean back to shore!! Lots of animals. The over 250,000,000 salmon attreact fisherman which takes pressure off the more natural streams.

We heard about the fish hatchery when visiting Valdez. So we went there, it was amazing. I've never seen so many fish. We didn't see any bears, but there was lot's of signs warning about them.

Amazing with the natural show with salmons, sea lions, sea otters and black bears. It's worth any minute to drive there.
Alice chen — Google review
Came here early July, and was unfortunately too early for the prime season and it was closed. Did see a few sea lions hanging around, but no salmon. The hatchery has many displays showing the life cycle, eco-system, and harvest process which were quite educational. Beautiful scenery regardless and would certainly recommend if you are visiting Valdez.
The Columbia Glacier, located in Prince William Sound off the coast of Alaska, has been rapidly retreating since the 1980s. As one of the world's fastest-moving glaciers, it has peeled back an estimated 19 miles and continues to change at a rapid pace. This glacier is known for its impressive size, with a face as high as a football field.
Incredible experience!
The best one in whole my life!!

The Columbia Glacier is one of the most rapidly changing glaciers in Alaska according to the U.S.G.S. Make sure you get your photographs now and then you can compare decades into the future to see how much the glacier has retreated.

An enormous Alaskan glacier that moves quickly but is also rapidly shortening in length
The Columbia Glacier is one of Alaska’s largest glaciers, with an area of about 360 square miles (920 square km) and a length of 25 miles (40 km). It descends from the Chugach Mountains in southern Alaska to Prince William Sound (an inlet of the Gulf of Alaska), where it calves large numbers of icebergs into the sea.
Shrinking record
The Columbia Glacier is one of the fastest moving in North America, but its fast forward movement is offset by extremely rapid calving of icebergs at its terminus, at the rate of some 14 million tons (13 million tonnes) every day. As a result, since the 1960s, the glacier’s terminus has moved backward, and since 2011 it has become detached from some of its largest tributary glaciers. The retreat cannot be attributed solely to global warming, as other nearby glaciers are not shrinking at the same pace. Instead, experts believe it is connected to the shape of the bedrock channel under the glacier.

My husband and I went on a winter tour with Brett from Mica Tours and Mark from Sheep Mountain Air. They were the BEST tour guides. They made us feel 100% comfortable, they were adventurous and they truly gave us an experience of a life time!! You won’t regret this tour! We went on the helicopter ride to the glacier and explored the ice caves!

What an experience! We were on the advanced trek with our tour guide Warren. She is amazing and professional, provided us all the gear needed for the trip, and made sure we were safe walking on the glacier the entire time. I would never imagine the trip to be this great, it was over and beyond our expectations. We passed all the other people who only did the regular ice trek and owned the entire park to just few of us. We did a little bit of ice climbing too, which was a little bit harder than I expected, but it was a lot of fun for a first timer. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone!

One of the best experiences ever to walk on a glacier. Our guide Dan was amazing checking on us at every step and shared lot of knowledge on glaciers and especially Matanuska. We did a 4PM tour last week and it was not all crowded felt like only we were on the glacier.
The views are amazing and the glacier water oh my god, its the best tasting water I ever had in all these years of my existence!!!
Carry an empty bottle to take some with you.
They provide the shoes, the spikes and even a rain jacket if its raining and you do not already have a rain jacket on.
I did not expect the hike to be so good it was an amazing activity for a group.

MICA guides and our ultimate adventure and overnight stay on the Matanuska Glacier was truly the highlight of our trip. My husband and I LOVED learning to ice climb - our guide Brett was so knowledgeable, fun, and helpful. I’d recommend opting for the ice climbing over just the hike - it’s unlike anything else you’ve done or probably will do. We felt like we were safe, instantly friends, and in great hands. Everyone from check in to check out at MICA is so hospitable and kind. The views and experience are beyond stunning - don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime experience!

Our group of 5 did both the Advanced Trek with Connor and the Ice Climbing with Connor & Samantha. These experiences were the favorite of the trip for my brother in laws birthday adventure. We can’t stop talking about it. The advanced trek gets you deep into the glacier and the ice climbing makes you feel so powerful and strong. Connor was so knowledgeable about the glacier. He was professional & super fun to hang out with for our two days exploring the glacier. Samantha was amazing helping us feel confident and safe during our climbs. And props to all of the people we encountered from Kyle directing us at the parking, to the people at check-in, and everyone we encountered in between. You can really tell that all of the guides are passionate about their jobs and love working here. The vibes are amazing and helped to heighten our experience.

MICA Guides, and specifically Kelsey (K2) was absolutely amazing! I was in a small group but we all had past experience hiking and wanted to be pushed so she took that into account and went above and beyond so we could see/do as much as time allowed. She was very informative about the glacier but also really down to earth and fun to be around. I was in Alaska for 8 days and did a lot of other activities but this by far was the most enjoyable. I highly recommend MICA guides but also highly recommend Kelsey (K2) as your guide.

Our Ice Fall Trek with Mica guides was great! Going with Mica was a suggestion from a friend who trekked the glacier twice with different tour companies. We had such an experience & our guides Tyler & Samantha made sure that our trip was as safe & enjoyable as it could be. We passed by another tour company that had probably 20 people with young children & were really glad that we didn't choose that tour! For our safety, we weren't allowed to take photos or videos as we were moving but there were plenty of opportunities for photos when we stopped so the photo package that was offered could use some more value. Otherwise, the tour was amazing!

MICA Guides are awesome! We just had one of the most epic adventures. Bret took us out to the glacier for the Ultimate Adventure, and they delivered! It started off with several lessons and then bumped up a notch to some climbing and repelling. The cherry on top was Angel’s Landing, an endless hole that we got do to! This is a must do adventure! Top notch gear and service!

Connor and Dan were so knowledgeable and made us feel very comfortable ice climbing! The climbs they chose were tailored to the abilities of the group and had 2 ropes set up at a time with different difficulties for each. We got to climb a harder route that was so much fun and so rewarding! Glacier ice is incredible!! They provide all the gear you’ll need including rain pants if necessary. Riding in the burb was an interesting and humbling experience—respect ✊ Thank you for a unique Alaskan adventure, it’s one we’ll never forget! (P.S. bring lots of snacks)
We had an amazing experience going out to the Matanuska glacier. We did the 6 mile adventure trek with our guide - Drew, he was the best for this job. We had a fabulous time doing the glacier trek on the Matanuska Glacier with our guides, Mitch and Drew. They taught us so much about the glacier. They were very engaging, making the trek super fun while keeping us all safe. They paid careful attention and encouraged our kids at just the right times. They have all the gear you need. You don't even need to worry about having the right boots. Since we were in a rental RV, we even got to camp by the river in their "parking lot" for free. Amazing!

Went on the Matanuska Glacier trek and had a wonderful time. The glacier was beautiful and I got to learn a ton about it. As long as you listen to your guide, it's a pretty easy and safe hike. Glacier View is a beautiful area in general, and I highly recommend doing the hike on the glacier! They provide waterproof boots/helmet/spikes, so just having long pants, a windbreaker, and a layer underneath was perfect for us.

I don’t even know where to start with NOVA. I have interacted with many guides and have nothing but good things to say about all of them.
1. Ice climbing - phenomenal, so much fun, such a cool challenge
2. White water rafting - a great adventure for the adrenaline junkie
3. Private glacier tour - Maya was our guide and made our trip spectacular
4. Glacier hike - slightly more expensive than Matanuska glacier guides, but worth the cost because Nova actually keeps track of your reservation and has smaller groups.
5. River float - we sent my mom on this trip while we were white water rafting and she had a good time!
I love that they have so many activities happening at the same time so you can bring the whole family and there’s adventure at everyone’s comfort level. It’s also great that all the trips are half day so you can double up and do 2 epic activities in one day!! The base camp has picnic tables that able to be used. Bathroom is a pit toilet, but very well maintained and lots of hand sanitizer.

I cannot begin to express my incredible experience with NOVA Alaska Guides. Every step of the way and beyond was incredible. Not only was I blown away by a once in a lifetime experience just by the views in awe 4,000 miles away from my home- but our tour guide, Thomas, was astounding! He was thorough, educational, funny, kind, and answered all questions with grace, even the oddly specific ones I threw at him not expecting him to know. There were many people crowded at the glacier when we got there and he wanted our group to be more alone on the glacier, and the way he stalled to kill a little time on the fly kept us interested and entertained. He truly went above and beyond and it is clear he loves his work. It seems like it can’t get any better, but it does- I lost my sunglasses someplace in the mix and NOVA actually mailed them back to me, to New York! Every single person I interacted with from start to finish was an absolute angel. I feel blessed to have even seen the glacier, but NOVA took the experience to the next level.

Glacier hiking and ice climbing was our favorite adventure of the trip to Alaska.
We had a private tour and our guide Ben was absolutely the BEST.
He took us to the ice cave, ice canyon, showed us couple holes in the glacier with waterfalls and we did several ice climbs.
Our safety was his priority. We were ice climbing for the first time and felt very comfortable with Ben.
He spent with us all day guiding us around glacier and we had great time.
We would love to come back and bring friends with us next time!

Our experience with Ben as our guide was incredible. My wife and I went with our in-laws and her siblings, age range 22 - 57. We did the half day expedition on the glacier. Me and one of my old college roommates were visiting another old roommate who lives in alaska and he recommended using Nova for their tours. We did the rafting in the morning and the ice climbing later in the afternoon. All the staff were amazing, super nice, helpful, knowledgeable, and just all around great people. For the rafting they provided all the appropriate gear (dry suits with boots, helmets, life jackets). Our tour guide Coffee (like the drink) was amazing, we had no spills along the river and they even had one of their employees take photos of everyone throughout the ride (available for purchase on flash drive for $30). for the ice climbing they also provided all the appropriate gear (boots, crampons, helmets, harnesses & tools). Our first guide Maddie was extremely nice but eventually had to leave after taking us to our climb area where Ben took over. He was extremely cool and even went out of his way to stay a bit late with us to make sure we got our time/money worth even though he had been out on the ice since 8am. He even set up a separate anchor rope so we could dangle and take photos of each other climbing. All around great guide group and would definitely come again if ever in alaska again!

We were so happy and fortunate to have chosen NOVA and had David and Drew as our guide. They were very professional, responsible, tailored the tour to everybody's physical ability and made the experience a lifetime experience. We felt very safe under their guide. You can tell that they really love what they are doing. It was such an amazing experience. Gosh I miss Alaska :).

we went on the longer trip, it was just our group of 4 and 2 guides! our guides Drew and Carson were awesome, they were both so knowledgeable and experienced and made the trip perfect for us. they gave us all the necessary gear and made sure we were safe the whole time while still giving us a really cool and unique experience on the glacier. if you’re looking to take a trip onto the glacier, Nova is definitely the company to go to.
Portage Glacier is a popular tourist destination in Alaska, accessible by boat tours from a visitor center across the lake. The glacier stands tall at 10 stories and can be easily accessed. Additionally, visitors can also visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to witness several species of native Alaskan animals in their natural environments.
Amazing way to kick off a multi-week Alaska vacation!!
Not too far from Anchorage. Stopped at the AWCC on the way.
It was chilly but sunny!

If you are staying in Anchorage and you have half a day available But you want visit a good place and enjoy a boat ride and see Glacier?
You can accomplish all of that at Portage Glacier.
Nice peacefull sail. Just sit back and enjoy.
Even in July you will need some heavy clothing.
Nice place to visit and beauty all around the highway as well.
If you are lucky (like we were), you may see black bear along with the glacier.
Good luck!!

We were lucky enough to visit it on a cloudy day. I think that was the best condition to capture the glacier's bluish color. We booked this tour in Anchorage and it included the Alaska wildlife conservation center and Alyeska resort. Both places are worth it, but the glacier is the gem. The whole day's experience was unforgettable. When the boat was not far from the glacier the huge chunk of ice calved into the water with a loud splash. That was a sad reminder of the glacier's progressing recession.

Winter Hike March 2023
Went out on the lake to go see the face of Portage ! Took us about 2.5 hrs for roundtrip. It looks short but it's definitely a long walk. It is extremely windy. Cover any skin and wear sunglasses. Highly recommend, your efforts will be rewarded !

This was a moderately difficult hike- The first part having a steep incline. The trail takes you to a black sand beach with gorgeous views of the glacier and surrounding mountains. We are in our early 30s and are fit. I would advise caution for the elder.

Came here with some friends on June 7th. Overall it's a BEAUTIFUL hike, with a lot of variety. Probably my favorite hike I trekked in Alaska.
I actually hiked this TWICE in one day cuz I left my wallet (long story) near the glacier the first time and had to go back to find it.
The hike starts kind of steep with a rocky bit, but takes you to the first mini summit which looks back over the parking lot/lake area. That itself is a super cool view (which we experienced coming back) but going up there was a crazy thick fog which gave everything a Lord of the Rings Shire/Hobbit feel. Super cool.
The weather changed a bunch over the course of the day, a lot of the high bits being covered in clouds.... Despite that, and the light rain we got, there were still good views of the lake and glacier as we came in (both higher, overlooking the main lake, and at the lakes edge). The clouds cleared as the day went on, but rolled back again quick, so just keep the weather volitility in mind as that plays a factor in how enjoyable the views might be.
Maybe 15% of the overall trail was snowy bits. As some others said here, bring some gold water proof hiking boots and an extra pair of socks for when you get back as your boots will see a lot of moisture. The snow was not very difficult to traverse (a few uphill moments in the snow made it more strenuous, but it was still upper moderate difficulty).
There is a smaller mini lake half way thru the path (some waterfalls in the distant feeds the river run offs, which is really beautiful!), and 2 large geese/swan birds were floating elegantly there. Pretty much the most prime real estate a bird could ever get. :p Just a gorgeous place....
Once you get to the bottom, you have a nice view of Portage Glacier, but there is still a lake separating you from it. Most people spend time on the beach there then return.
I wanted to touch the glacier, which required another 45 minute hike around the edge of the lake, including wading a rather large river feeding the lake (the water went up to my waste! - and I'm 6'2") and crossing a few other smaller feeding creeks. - the first time I went I just crossed wearing jeans and my boots, which got soaked, and it was freezing! (yeah... Duh. I know. :p) The current was preeety strong too and the friend I waded across with lost his balance coming back and went all in right at the end. - the 2nd time back I wore some waders and crossing was much easier & drier. (still took a bit of patience as the river is strong and wide where I crossed). BIGGEST CONCERN FOR FUTURE HIKERS: as snow melts more, sometimes your foot can break thru some of the snow, especially near the melted edges thst tend to melt in a hollowed out form... We had a few mini break throughs that went ankle deep and got our boots wet a little. Nothing major, but something to be aware about.
As the weather cleared, new incredible views of the surrounding mountains & waterfalls appeared, making this a top notch, diverse hike. :)
Be careful of deveating off the trail.... We "explored" a few tangent trails, which were fun, but got confused a little at one point trying to get back to the main trail. Pretty much, be careful to stick to the main trail, and you shouldn't have a problem.

Beautiful place to go. My family comes here to hike often. We have gotten to see broken off pieces of the glacier in the lake but can't wait to come back during summer to see the glacier by tour. Very convenient to have campgrounds ands so many trails in the area and some great fishing spots all close.

One of the best places in Chugach Mountain area to explore. It’s not that far from anchorage, about an hour drive to the cruise site.
There are several options for cruise but We took the one hour cruise tour and it was worth the price.
The lake is frozen during winter and even in summer time it’s cold! Beware of frostbite and take precautions with all the necessary stuff like gloves, beanie and a good jacket and boots.
Also make sure to carry item like a raincoat or umbrella cause it literally rains most of the time.

June 2018 Easy hike in a nearby trail for glacier view as well as affordable 1hr cruise. Nice view at ground level or above. It’s a good stop along the way.
The Wildlife Refuge Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center offers visitors a chance to see wildlife up close. The center is located close to Anchorage and is known for its encounters with native animals that have been rescued. The refuge also has a zoo, where visitors can see animals from all over the world.
Wasn’t in the plan but stopped in anyway. Was very cool experience. Unlike zoos, you can tell the animals are happy. Very active. You can drive or walk the property. We walked and enjoyed it. Be sure to stop to see the brown bears a few times, they were playful and very active, doing something different each time we went.

Such a great place I went on a van tour. You can drive yourself and even walk through. If you drive through there are plenty of turnouts to pull over into and park so you can walk around to see the animals in that area. The animals look well cared for in the sanctuary. I saw so many beautiful animals it was lightly raining and was in the afternoon so some animals were under the cover of the open sheds. But just to see them at all is so wonderful. The restrooms were clean, the gift shop staff was super helpful. They had food options outside. I wish I had a little longer to look around but being on a tour you have only so long to look around. I will definitely go back on my next trip to Anchorage.

We enjoyed our visit to the farm. You can walk around if you have the time and the weather is nice (probably my preference), but you can drive around to the different pens to view the animals. It was great to see some animals you may not get the chance to see in the wild. The porcupine was super cute. They have a gift store and you can buy coffee and hot chocolates and small food items. It was a lot of fun and great for kids. Highly recommend.

My husband and I visited the conservatory as part of a tour during a visit to Alaska for our honeymoon, and I wish we had more time to spend there. It is such a lovely place. The animals have plenty of room to roam and seem content. We saw a bear trudge over to the pond and lay back, paws in the air, just chillin in the water. Besides the animals, this is a great place to take some landscape photos. It is surrounded by mountains. There are musk ox, bison, wolves, caribou, deer, eagles, bear, and moose. They also have a really nice gift shop. I didn't buy anything, but I wanted to!

We had the opportunity to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center during our trip to Alaska, and it was truly a remarkable experience.
We have always loved observing wildlife animals as it allows us to witness the beauty of nature firsthand, seeing these living creatures in their natural habitat. Each species possesses its own unique charm and beauty.
When we encounter animals, it made us wonder how nature has crafted such magnificent creatures. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we had the chance to see a diverse range of animals that are native to the state of Alaska. The center conducts research and employs sustainable practices to care for these animals, while also providing an opportunity for visitors to appreciate their beauty and learn about coexisting with them, thus aiding in their conservation efforts to prevent extinction.
If you find yourself in Alaska, we highly recommend visiting this place. You'll undoubtedly develop a deep affection for these animals, just as we did.

Can't say enough great things about this place except for WOW. Set amongst the beautiful mountains and valleys, this is a must do experience if you're looking to see wildlife near Anchorage. I took a tour from Anchorage and was amazed from the minute we got here. Seeing these animals enjoy themselves in their natural habitat was so memorable and enjoyable.
If you're interested in going, I do recommend going with a tour group, or making sure that you download maps to be viewed offline as there's little GPS in the area. Personally, I enjoyed not having cellular service during my time here but just a tip to others considering coming here.
Definitely allocate enough time here, while our tour drove through, I would recommend walking to each and spending more time enjoying the beautiful outdoors and beautiful wildlife.

A very good place to watch Alaska wildlife in case you are in hurry or have missed it in the wild. The center is spread out and huge with local Alaksan wildlife kept in big lots. The animals ans birds are looked after really well and and the habitat is done in a way to reflect the wild. Highly recommended.
There are educational centers and a gift shop

The open atmosphere provides a pleasant walk amongst the fenced animals. You can also remain in your car and drive around if you desire. You are able to get very close when the animals allow it. The large animals appear to have large spaces to graze.

A great place to see the wildlife up close. It's very peaceful to watch the bears playing and there was a lot of space to enjoy viewing the animals. You can drive around the loop and get out here and there is walk the entire loop. We opted for walking because the potholes were pretty bad and we preferred to get out and enjoy the sunshine!
The gift shop was nice and had a good assortment of Arts and crafts, jewelry, etc...

This place was so cool!! You can drive around to each animals area/natural habitat. There's fences to protect the animals from people, but you can see straight through. It was amazing, their sense of humor is great, as noted by the social distancing signs. The facilities were clean and all animals looked super healthy! Gift shop was unique and featured local artists.

Absolutely an amazing spot to see a lot of Alaskan species. Wood Bison, Moose, Elk, Caribou, Lynx, Porcupine, Grizzly Beat, Wolves, and Black Bears are all here and are treated well. We went here on a tour and loved it so much that we went back after a few days to make some donations and to see some more of the animals. They have a very nice gift shop as well. Some of the handcrafted knives were incredible!

Must stop for animal lovers! Beautiful drive here from Anchorage, great and helpful staff, cute gift shop, and beautiful scenery while seeing some amazing animals. They're so close to you, it's incredible to see. There's not a ton of different animals like a zoo, but if you love animals, respect nature, and appreciate all of the work that goes into caring for animals like these then you'll love this place! My friend and I went around twice, you can drive or walk, we drove because it was very cold. So glad we went around twice because then we got to see the bears being fed!

Very nice conservation center with spacious enclosures for the animals. We truly enjoyed our time there. You have the opportunity to ride or drive to see the animals. We drove through first and then walked. Spent over 3 hours here and could have stayed longer but had to start our drive to Homer. We were there at the right time to hear a concert of howling by the wolves. We loved seeing that all the animals were well cared for. Staff were helpful and informative.

Super cool experience, you have the option to either drive or walk. The moose exhibit was one of my favorites because they love attention and people so they usually come to say hi.
I really expected more from the fox, wolves and bear exhibit however was not able to see them as they were sleeping.
Maybe better to go during summer time so the animals are not hiding trying to stay warm? Not sure.
Very muddy and gross to walk, lots of puddles, we ended up driving.

I recently visited the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, and it was an absolutely breathtaking experience! From the majestic moose to the captivating wolves and awe-inspiring bears, every moment felt like a journey into the heart of Alaska's wilderness. The highlight was definitely spotting a bald eagle resting on a tree above the wolves. The center's dedication to wildlife preservation is commendable, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a truly immersive encounter with Alaska's natural wonders. Five stars without a doubt! (Only slight sadness for the moose in the small fenced-in area)

There is a good variety of local wildlife represented. You can walk or drive the trail around the area. The summer tourist season will be busier. There is a playground area behind the gift shop. And there are benches and tables at the bear boardwalk. One thing you want to be aware of is the roads will test your vehicle's shocks.
The Alyeska Aerial Tram takes visitors to the top of Mount Alyeska for stunning views of glaciers and peaks. It's a five-minute ride up from the town of Girdwood, located about 30 minutes south of Anchorage. Year-round, the tram is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Fast and reliable access to good variety of on and off piste skiing. I was there on a holiday weekend and did not experience any lines or waiting even with COVID restrictions to 50% capacity. Runs every 10 minutes, under 5 minutes to gain over 2000 vertical feet.

The Alyeska Aerial Tram takes you up a small mountain that has hiking and biking trails in the summer and is otherwise a ski resort in the winter. The tram itself is very nice and the trip both up and down were smooth. Realize that it is fairly tight quarters for about 5-10 minutes. Great views from the tram and OK views at the top during summer. We were up on a fairly cloudy day so couldn't see much for part of our visit. With so many amazing places to visit this was good, but not great.

Near perfect experience. If you never rode a tram. This was quick. Everything was easy, and there was no wait. At the top of the Tramway, there is a small deli and bar with surprisingly decent food. I was told we were going to the restaurant, but I was not open. The weather was not bad at all as we were in the skiing offseason, but its Alaska, it was definitely a little chilly. Can't wait to come back!

This was cool to be in snow during the summer with beautiful views! Kids had fun exploring of the mountain and building a snowman. There is a restaurant deli at the top and a little museum. The hotel at the bottom has fine dining to pick from I would just check the hours for the day that you’re coming if you wanted to eat there. Once you get to this area there is a local shuttle that works off tips to drive you anywhere and drop you off and pick you back up around the entire town.

Beautiful views from the top of the tram, although you do have to pay to ride on it. At the top, there is a bar to get drinks, a cafe which closes at 4:30, a gift shop, and the Seven Glaciers fine dining restaurant, which you need a reservation for. If you don’t want to take the tram, there is a strenuous yet doable hike to the top.

Totally worth the money! We were here on vacation waiting to get on our cruise. The scenery is incredible. Alaska is definitely one of the most beautiful states I've ever been to. I think we paid 50 or $60 per person to get to the top of the mountain. I would absolutely do it again.

This was surprisingly the best stop we made between Anchorage and Seward, and one of our top 3 things we did in Alaska. By reading the website, I thought it was just a tram ride up and down, instead there was tons to do at the top!
Tickets: Tram rides leave very often, so you'll have no problems getting on one throughout the day. There are plenty of tickets available, so you can buy the day of. Lots of military/veteran, student, and senior discounts available.
Tram: It's standing room only, but not a very long ride. Glass views all around and good for pictures.
Tram Alternative: There is a hike that goes from the base to the top. It's dirt and a lot of switch backs, but excellent exercise! Hikers can take the tram down for free, but ticketed passengers get first dibs.
At the Top: Once you get off the tram at the top, there is a hiking trail that will take you further up the mountain for breathtaking views. Well worth the climb! Even in August there was still some snow up there. There is also a restaurant (pick-up & find a seat no servers) and a bar. You can take your brew outside and enjoy the views while sipping on a cold beer or cocktail. There is also a gift shop.
Great for families, friends, couples or solo! All ability levels as well.

A quick 4.5 minute ride from the bottom to the top - elevation of 2000ft gain. Unfortunately, today mother nature took her toll. The fog rolled in and all we saw was the white background. There are restaurants on top, one is a 4 diamond restaurant with reservations required while the other restaurant is more casual. Would be an amazing place to visit and have a lovely dinner with spectacular views on a clear, sunny day.

This was one of the most amazing things we did on our trip to Alaska. We didn't have a true plan for the first few days in the State, but finding this was a gem for sure. At first I thought it was a bit expensive, but it’s worth every penny. Clean, safe ride with friendly staff. The mountain top was very cool with wildlife (saw a bear on the way up), wildflowers, and great views. The bathrooms were clean and the beer hit the spot. 20% discount if you are staying at the resort. Pictures taken August 14, 2023.

Amazing views but Expensive ($48pp) ! There are seven glacier views on top which is definitely amazing and a short hike to go to higher elevation to view glaciers but I don’t recommend going all the way to the top. Me & my husband felt there is not much difference in the views even after the hike which is steep & slippery (wear hiking shoes). Alaska has many glaciers, so you can see them even while driving or stopping at overlooks. So take this tram only if you really want to go. Otherwise you can skip it. Same seven glaciers can be seen from the road while driving toward Seward from Girdwood.

I have gone multiple times! In summer and winter for snowboarding! Always a fun ride and breathtaking views. If you have never taken a ride it is worth the trip at least once! A gorgeous view even on a cloudy day. A two mile hike up to the lookout from the roundhouse and restaurant and a tram ride down. Unless you really feel energetic and want to hike the two mile hike back down. It is a do-able steep. I don't recommend it to someone that's really out of shape. The ride down is free. If you choose to ride the tram up it cost $90. for my wife and I both unless you order the meal vouchers which I did so I paid $120.00 for the both of us to be used at the restaurant up on top. If you want to eat at the fine dining restaurant I recommend getting online and ordering in advance. The closest day available was two days out. Prices were a little spendy as you might imagine. I thought it was worth it.

A 4-5 minutes lift ride up the mountains. The height of the mountains is at 2000 ft and tram is every 15 minutes up.
Cost- it's $48 per adult and $60 / adult which includes food at the restaurant in the top.
Personally I feel it's very expensive just to go on the top..but views are definitely amazing. It completely depend on the weather if it's cloudy or sunny to see the views. You can also hike the top which is steep hike and coming down is free!!!
Deli- we got the $25 coupon for food and had a black bean burger with cocktail on the top.
The Alaska SeaLife Center is an aquarium located in Seward that offers exhibits on various Alaskan marine life such as harbor seals, king crabs, and Steller's sea lions. A fun and interesting place to visit while in Seward, AK especially if you are traveling with a group. Our group got a private class from an expert on lives of the various kinds of puffins living in the area. Puffins are so cute that everyone wants one and at the SeaLife Center you get a chance to get up front and personal with these amazing birds (don’t touch of course). Here is an excellent opportunity to get close to puffins for pictures and to observe their behaviors. Of course there are many other birds, mammals and fish to observe.

A great place to take a little over an hour to go through and enjoy it on two levels. The downstairs aquarium views are quite entertaining for what you see up upstairs. Don't miss out on the touch tank and viewing all the creatures in the tanks.

Enjoyed a nice afternoon at this aquarium with my family. The animals and displays were awesome and informative. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Parking is along the streets nearby and in an adjacent parking lot. Campground nearby.

It was a nice visit but pretty average as small aquariums go. We would have liked to see more staff interaction with some of the exhibits or explaining in person more about the specific mammals especially. Outside exhibition viewing areas for the seals wtc were very small. The starfish petting area was really neat. Gift shop was well stocked and had some unique things. I guess being in AK with so much fish and sealife we expected a little more. Perhaps some movies? Some staff interaction with guests and definitely they need to have labels on each tank on the front below the glass with a photo of the fish so you know what you are looking at! Just a typed list of fish does nothing for the lay person. Some tanks had a rotating LED signboard listing the fish, but if a visitor was standing near it, none of the other 15 or so guests could see it. We felt the admission price is high for what you get. Additional fees are charged for other "experiences" which normally are a free with your admission to aquariums we have been to in the lower 48. We would not plan to visit again.

We visited here September. It's multi-level with many educational displays. Most of the operation is viewed from inside, so it's fine to visit on a rainy day.
The best experience for our visit was the wildlife response tour led by staff that took us behind the scenes - we learned about the rescue and development work that is a significant part of this operation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the SeaLife Center. A very good display of marine life. The staff were friendly and informative. All tanks were extremely clean and the animals healthy. It was fun watching the seals, sea lions, puffins, eels, octopus. We were there for over 2.5 hours and wished we could have stayed longer but we had to hit the road. We highly recommend a visit!
(Don't know why my phone camera turned the octopus purple. All the other animals in photos were their true colors.)

I have to say this is a must see place in Seward. I highly recommend the " feed the puffin's experience" , it was absolutely amazing! This place has amazing views and was really close to the local shops and restaurants. Even if you cannot do the puffin experience, they have other amazing animals for you to see, we were even able to spot a bald eagle right outside the building. Thank you very much to all the helpful and knowledgeable staff there.

Was a decent amount to check out and learn. The staff was very friendly, and knowledgeable. I like how you could touch the starfish, and sea urchins were cool as they would squeeze your finger to sense you, very cool! Sea lion feeding would have been cool too see but I arrived just before so it was too crowded to get a good view despite being over 6 feet tall. Would be nice if they put some extra platforms so more people could see. Other than that it was a cool experience could see sea lions, and seals above and below the water on two floors. Definitely worth checking out if you find yourself in Seward.

Wow if you have kids or just love seeing whats out in the bay you have to go check this out! It is AMAZING!! My 7 year old son had a blast and I must say I really enjoyed it. At first I thought the admission was a little high but at the end of the tour, it was well worth it. Highly recommend!
The Reindeer Farm in Alaska is a working farm that offers unique experiences such as reindeer petting and feeding, horseback riding, and winter sled rides. The farm is reasonably priced and provides opportunities for visitors to interact with various animals, including moose and ponies. Despite the windy weather conditions during one visitor's trip, they still had a great time. In addition to friendly staff who assist in showing visitors around the farm, there are also pony rides available for young children.
My husband and I were visiting Alaska from New Hampshire and I came across this farm while looking for things to do in the area. I'm so glad I did. We had an amazing time. Very reasonably priced. It was quite the experience being able to kiss a moose. We enjoyed feeding all the animals......especially the moose and the reindeer. It was very windy the day we went, but we still had a great time. I wish it was closer to home. My nieces would absolutely love it. They offer pony rides for those who have young kids. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful in showing us around. Thank you for a great time.

Such a cool spot! We had such a wonderful time! (We stopped by Wild Life Conservation and it wasn’t that great and very expensive!) This place was SO interactive, everyone was so kind and friendly and made sure you enjoyed your time there. Extremely kid friendly! The kids loved the playground, hay bales, bubbles, and all the activities. You can also grab burgers and hotdogs and yummy desserts. It’s just a great place! Don’t pass it up!😊

This place was amazing! It was me and my family’s first time there and it didn’t disappoint. The folks that work there are so kind and informative. The animals look so healthy and well taken care of. The gift shop is great and I love the little coffee shop! It’s so perfect for kids and adults alike! We plan on getting the yearly pass and going a handful of times a year. Oh, and the location is so beautiful!!!

A MUST see when you are in the Palmer area! The farm is super easy to get to even in the winter. The staff are very informative and super friendly! The star is Rocky the moose who loves to give moose kisses! This is such a wonderful experience to see reindeer so close. It's so worth it and you get plenty of time to feed them up close. There is also a bison, some elk, yaks and some alpacas! It was such a great time, even in the frigid cold! Dress in layers!

This farm is absolutely incredible. The staff and owners are SO kind and friendly. There is so much to do and the animals are well loved. I highly recommend doing the VIP tour as you will get to go in with the animals and feed more of them than if you do the self guided tour. Where else can you feed a reindeer with the mountains in the background? I love that this is a family run local business. The entire team clearly takes pride in what they do and love their animals dearly!

This place was enjoyed by everyone in our group from 11-75!! Was able to get up close personal with all the animals, hand feed and even pet most of them! The reindeer, yak, moose and highland cows were my favorites. All staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the animals. Unique experience, highly recommended!!

This farm experience is enjoyable for both adults & kids. We did a guided tour and got to know many interesting things about many animals in the farm. We got to feed Reindeers, Alpacas, Moose, and baby Bison. We saw Yak, Elk, Musk ox, Pigs, Hens too and were able to pet most of the animals. This farm is a must visit when you are around Palmer area.

My friend and I went to the Fall Family Fun Event and had an amazing time! We started off by getting some grilled cheese and soup at the food truck, and then going around to see all of the different animals (there was a lot more than we expected!) We also went on a Spooky Walk, got some yummy cider, and ended our experience with the maze. This is perfect for people of all ages to enjoy, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun fall event :)

Fantastic experience as someone visiting Alaska. My brother and I went and had the tour guide Zack, he was absolutely amazing. We learned a lot about the animals, froze slightly with -20 degree weather but then easily warmed up with the hot chocolate provided on the tour. All the animals were well trained, friendly to feed and cool to look at and pet. 10/10 recommend for anyone who has time to stop by.

We went to the reindeer farm today and it was such an amazing experience!!! I assumed we would feed the reindeer but was pleasantly surprised to see the other animals. We kissed moose (Rocky and Lucille), saw a Bison, Elk, Alpacas, a Yak all in addition to feeding those cute reindeer!!! It was super cold and snowing, however the farm clearly advised dressing for the weather in the confirmation email! I definitely list this as a MUST SEE when in the Palmer area!! Enjoyable for young and old alike!!

We went to the Reindeer Farm yesterday. Eric was a guide and we had a blast! He was funny and knowledgeable about the farm and the animals. He also took great photos. We were able to feed and/or pet almost all of the animals. It wasn’t too costly and was worth every single penny spent.

Always a family favorite to visit the Reindeer Farm! Around every corner is a farmhand to share information, answer questions and provide treats you can feed to the animals for a completely hands on experience. Every trip is enjoyable with something new and exciting to explore. I highly recommend touring with a guide your first time. It’s worth all of the memories!

I went here in the middle of Dec 2023 and had an awesome experience. I was in Anchorage for work and found this place to explore in my down time. The staff was unbelievably nice and all the animals are very well taken care of and loved. I definitely recommend some good winter shoes while you’re there otherwise your feet might freeze like mine did. The hot cocoa break was a nice added touch in the middle of the tour. I loved being able to feed all the babies and get pictures even though I was traveling solo.

We had a great tour of the Reindeer Farm in Palmer (February 2024). The Highland cows were a highlight with the kids, and our picture at the end of the tour with April the reindeer. It was a great guided experience with a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Kids loved it and so did the adults!

We decided to go to the Reindeer Farm last minute and booked a 2:30 reservation. The drive out there is so beautiful. We got there about 15 minutes early and got to wait in the gift shop. It was cold out, so dress warm. Our guide was Eric, the son in law of the owner. We got accompanied by Cody, the farm dog. We got to feed, pet, take pictures with these beautiful animals. I was stoked that I got to see my first moose. They were still babies, about 6mons old. Eric gave us a lot of info on each animal. We ended getting to take a picture with April, their rescued reindeer. I would recommend going here in the winter. It's just so beautiful with the snow. You do get to warm up and drink hot chocolate half way thru.

The Eagle River Nature Center is a wonderful place to learn about and enjoy nature. The center has miles of hiking, Nordic skiing and riding trails, as well as a variety of classes and resources to help get kids (and adults!) excited about Alaskan wildlife and environment. The location in the Chugach Mountains is quite scenic, making it an ideal spot for a day out or relaxing weekend getaway.
This was a fun activity for our family. Great hikes and trails for kids to burn energy. The views were awesome. Can’t wait to bring other visitors here and share this cool place.

Had a great visit in March. People working there were SO friendly and helpful. This is a gorgeous place for an easy hike. We did the 3 mile Albert Loop trail in hiking boots and was very well maintained in winter. But the shorter hike is also fabulous with boardwalks over the water. Saw a large beaver dam. Views are outstanding

Beautiful location for hiking, wildlife viewing and education. There are several trail options, from a 0.75 mile nature loop, up to several miles around the park site, all of which provide scenery and wildlife. A couple of the longer trails were closed due to increased bear activity when we recently stopped, but even the short loop had recently featured a moose sighting. For our stop, some birds and migrating salmon were the extent of the wildlife present. The boardwalks over the creek and marsh provide beautiful spots to take in the majestic mountains, and the woods are scenic no matter the season.

My local park. I live a mile from the Eagle River Nature Center. It’s a great place to reconnect with nature. Bears in the summer, moose in the winter. After the first mile, the crowds and kids drop away and it’s really pleasant.
UPDATE: things have changed and I didn’t renew my membership because they are very unwelcoming to dogs and started charging for free events like the solstice walk. I still love these woods but the management has decided to focus on children who destroy the peace and quiet and litter the trails with trash and dirty nappies. Its a real shame 🥲
Angela Birt — Google review
I have only visited this park in the winter, but it was beautiful. The hike was not hard at all even in the snow, but it would be difficult for someone with an injury, with small children, etc. There are several lookout points and bridges along the way which make for nice viewing. We took the Albert loop which is about 3ish miles, but there are other shorter and longer options. You do have to pay for parking, which is $5, but there is a kiosk where you can pay with a credit card.

*Really* great nature center! Well-maintained trails, beautifully diverse and pristine landscape, and really nice yurts peppered throughout. Highly recommend!
Amber Schlater — Google review
Beautiful in the summer and fall for walks and hikes!
Those looking for a nice place to cross country ski look elsewhere! The trail isn't really groomed like advertised as it's more a single multiuse trail that's compacted into ice and uneven. If going to the yurts in the winter beware the wood provided was wet cottonwood. We had to refuel the stove every 2 hours, even with it on low, and the next day ran into a couple that left in the night since they couldn't get warm in their yurt.

I LOVED the many displays and touchable info. They were very specific to the park nature. Reading them before hiking helped make the hike better. A pleasant surprise was finish our hike just time for a wild food presentation. Thanjs!!!

Enjoyed the short nature trails and magnificent scenery at this nature center. We visited in early June on a pretty Sunday evening. Trails were very easy to negotiate- not muddy. Didn’t see any significant wildlife but did see a brown bear and her young one along the road less than a mile or so when leaving the area.

Incredible views and a pristine environment. This place is like straight out of a NatGeo nature documentary.
We went on a Sunday so the visitor center was closed but the nature area and hikes are still open to the visitors.
You can drive up to the visitor center, hike here and continue down towards Chugach State Park.
These areas are remote and frequented by bears 🐻 and mooses 🫎 so be careful and vigilant while on the trails.

This place is beautiful. It's an easy small trail hike around that is family friendly. I do say that lightly as there are bears and other wild life around so do be prepared for any unannounced visitors. But other than that it's a really scenic place perfect to get away and enjoy nature. The trail is free just pay for parking which is 5 dollars for a regular car. Do be sure to being a pen to write on the envelope.

We went in early April when it still had snowy weather. Very gorgeous! Most trails were blocked off for construction or something so we took the short trail and just visited this deck. I believe it was the Beaver deck. Not sure, but it was beautiful. Only 5 dollar parking. The parking ticket is usually a momento for us so not a big deal.
Independence Mine State Historical Park Visitor Center is a treasure located near Hatcher Pass. It provides a unique opportunity to explore the historical buildings and structures of a gold-mining camp through its self-guided interpretive tour. The center also includes a gold-mining museum that displays interesting historical artifacts. Visitors can spend hours walking and hiking around the area, capturing beautiful photographic views from up top at the water tunnel.
Some very interesting historical things to see here. Love seeing how things were done in the past. Lots to see and explore here. Great place to bring visitors and kids. Good place for photos.

Over the summer, June, we piled in the car from downtown and drove up to see the snow. The drive up through Hatchers Pass is very scenic and lovely. Plenty of parking. It gets cold up there so dress for winter or bring a coat.
We did a bit of exploring and learned a lot about the rich history there. Lots of scenic views of Talkeetna Mountains and signage to guide you. It would have been nice if there were designated cleared paths to walk along to get around the area.
Drive carefully on the ride down. The roads are winding and headed downhill it’s easy to lose control of the car.

We stumbled upon this gem after heading up to Hatcher Pass. We weren't really sure what it was our what we'd be doing, but we paid the $5 admission anyway just to find out. What a good gamble that ended up being.
We spent like 2-3 hours walking/hiking around with the kids and checking out the historical buildings and structures. The kids loved it too!
There are some amazing photographic views from up top at the water tunnel.

Great hikes. Depending on your route, it can be challenging but great for experienced hikers. There are several trails to choose. Easier ones for the kiddos. The little mining outpost itself is very cool with lots to see. They are doing restorations to some of the buildings and take serious pride in this area. STAY on trails, the tundra has taken a beating from people with no respect. We were not able to do the full loop, only made it to the the top of the first lake and had wind blowing @ 65+. Made for a great experience. Panning for gold is allowed only with a pan and shovel starting down in Hatcher Pass up to the mining area.

Definitely do the guided tour eith Salmonberry Tours! This is the only way to get you inside several of the buildings, which was super cool! The valley is beautiful and the buildings are very interesting. We recommend they put more story boards up to identify ALL the structures, even those that have fallen down. Likewise along the foot path that goes up around the too of the mill it would have been really nice to have story boards up there to show what it looked like when standing and the workshop buildings along rhe wooden boardwalk accessible area too. They just need to do a better job at the visitor education experience. Overall the site is fabulous and we recommend it!

This is one of our favorite places to visit when we have people and we're trying to show them Anchorage. I was born and raised in Anchorage, but currently live out of the state, and this is the place I come every year to visit when I'm home seeing family. The drive to this site is just absolutely gorgeous, it is breathtaking. Even if there wasn't the visitor center, the drive would be worth bringing someone to. We love the drive, we park and do the hike up to the hidden Lake, then we'll come down and check out the mine and the visitor center. It is great for all ages, it's really cool how history is just kind of frozen and when you learn about the mine and what happened to it. Seriously this is one of our favorite places to take tourists.

Cold and raining! Still worth seeing and the drive is beautiful. We have a 21 foot TT and an f150. No trouble getting in and out. There were also bigger rigs up there. The tour at $12 was fine. It gets you into locked portions that are interesting. But, for $5 parking fee you can do a self guided tour that gets most of it.
DUANE HELLE — Google review
We just wandered around without signing up for the tour, and it worked out well for us. It allows you to read up on the history of the site and gives some background on what early gold miners and their families went through. You can walk through most of the building without the tour and explore at your own pace. The tour will give you access to. Few more buildings, as well as an expert guide to answer questions.

This place used to be really great. It's now a tourist trap. It's still has that feel of something old and special but lacking in that old authenticity. It's been commercialized but at least it isn't $20 a person. It was a beautiful sunny day which was great. A lot of paved trails and plenty of dirt ones you can get off of. If you go up there your not going to be disappointed at all. Will I go back? Yes

I had such a great time here. The dogs are wonderful and the people that work her are fantastic. I learned so much about sled dogs with the free video they show in the gift shop. Sled dogs have a natural instinct and desire to run and work. When properly cared for and trained, sled dog teams can lead fulfilling lives. Responsible mushers prioritize the well-being of their dogs, ensuring they receive proper care, nutrition, and rest. When treated ethically, sled dog activities align with their natural instincts and I could certainly tell these dogs were happy and loved to run! I love that after I left here I knew so much about sled dogs. I highly recommend going here if you’re in the area. The sled ride was $10 and it was just a short loop (about 2 minutes) but I was so worth it!

It was just great, the dogs are very loving the mushers friendly and competent the ride could have been longer but I was amazed at how fast they are and how much weight they can pull. I could also see that the dogs 🐕 don't run with any kind of compulsion or strictness, but that they like to do it for their human, if one of the dogs seemed tired or exhausted, he was immediately taken to his place to rest. I loved it and would love to do it again.

A true gem in the heart of Alaska’s largest city. I unexpectedly got in for free with my Bank of America credit card as cardholders gain free access on the first weekend of each month through the “Museums On Us” program. Bring a quarter to use their lockers to keep all your layers and snacks. If you want to experience the entire museum you’ll need 4-5 hours. Great temporary exhibits that complement their permanent collection right now. Great day inside on a very cold, windy winter day

Movie is played almost every hour in the afternoon. cafeteria provide drinks and light snacks. One of the more culturally and globally aware museums with carefully curated galleries and exhibits that speak to the planet as much as they speak to our shared histories as human beings. Sometimes micro focused on Anchorage and Alaska, other times macro focused on climate change and globalization, the Anchorage Museum provides densely woven tapestries of the art, history, images, and ideas that make up the world in which we all live — and then invites you to pull on any number of threads to examine the individual strands more closely. It was thrilling experience for our family of four, ages 12-46.

It's also a warm place to escape the cold winter temperatures outside. The museum also gives discounts for seniors, military and students. They also have First Fridays with free entry from 6-9pm and also $5 entry every 3rd Thursday of the month. You can definitely see all the exhibits within 3 hours and I would come back if they have any new exhibitions that are interesting.

The whole family enjoyed this museum. The talented Alaska artists were beautifully displayed. Bonus was the interactive kids area that children and young at heart enjoyed. They have additional interactive/class area that wasn't open.

The museum is fine, has some great scientific experiments that are great for kids and adults. Very informative. The best section was about the different ethnic tribes of Alaska. I will recommend only if the weather is not great and you need to kill time. It's not worth the money at all.

It was such a pleasant experience to go visit Anchorage Museum. It just recently reopened after major remodeling. There are enough fun, educational, and interesting activities for children all ages and adults. The review would have to be too long, so to keep it shorter, I would 100% recommend visiting. Personally, I would plan at least a few hours to spend there just because it is amazing and has a cafeteria for a lunch break. We parked on the street, make sure to pay for more than 2-3 hours because you will stay longer than expected. Museum itself is work of art, and architecture is beautiful. Everything is thought through. Absolutely loved it.

There is not much to be seen in Anchorage from the tourist attractions standpoint however this one is a must. Fantastic collection of artifacts and an unrivalled opportunity to learn about Alaska and its people, history and culture.

Very very large museum, took me and my grandpa almost 3 hours to see it all. But it is very cool, we got to do the death on the ice tour as well. And it was very cool. Highly recommend.

We went during the first Friday of the month which is free! A great idea for an evening out or just a date night and grab some dinner downtown as well. I loved the exhibits & I absolutely fell in love with all the history that the museum show cased of Alaskan Native history (I learned about it during school but it was way different and such an experience to see actual artifacts & listen and read stories.) This was my first time going and I will most certainly be coming back. I think the discovery area for kids was amazing and also fun for adults too. Must see if you’re ever in Anchorage!

Such a great place to visit! The artwork was both modern and historical (Thomas Hill’s Muir Glacier, 1889 is my favorite). Great for an evening activity or a great place to learn about native people and their cultures throughout the land.

Interesting Museum with lots of exhibits. Apart from the little Science component in the corner, many exhibits were allocated to the Alaska's culture and art. There was a section for the railway that just reached 100 years old too.

It is a great museum. There are a lot to explore: history, people, art, land, science.. and more. We were surprised spending more than 4 hours in the museum. (Yup we stayed until it almost closed for the day). Love it.

So much to look at. Lots of great art and fun science labs for kids. Great historical information on Alaska. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Amazing experience at the Anchorage Museum. They have several topics around the museum; animation, science, alaskan history, art and a planetarium. We were expecting to be there for 2 hours. But we ended up expending close to 6 hours there (your ticket allows you to go in and out, it’s valid for the whole day).

Discover Alaska’s rich history and witness how knowledge can transform lives and futures! An excellent destination for families and kids to spend the day exploring and learning together.

A good place to learn about Anchorage history. It takes about 2-3 hours to see all the exhibits. Recommended for adults, not a lot of activities for kids.

It was beneficial for the children to have a variety of experiences and see Alaska's past and culture. It's close to downtown, so it's easily accessible, and there are large shopping malls nearby.

Huge disappointment, oil industry founded (see photos) so called „museum“. The exhibition has no thematic thread, history is only presented in fragments. The history of the colonization of Alaska by indigenous peoples is virtually absent.
The Alaska Railroad Corporation offers a pet-friendly travel option for dogs on their trains, along with buses in Anchorage. However, travelers should be aware of specific regulations and check the pet policies of the transportation providers. The Goldstar service provides spacious seating with ample legroom, delicious meals, and a viewing deck to enjoy stunning scenery. Passengers can also opt for additional services like breakfast, lunch, and a bar tender.
My family & I rode this train twice during our AK trip 2 weeks ago! We rode it from Anchorage to Denali, then back to Anchorage a few days later. We had the Goldstar service and it was wonderful! The seats are incredibly spacious with plenty of leg room, the meals were delicious, and the drinks were great! The staff are very kind and helpful. We very much enjoyed the viewing deck! The scenes we rode through are just stunning. I cannot speak any higher of our entire experience on the train. I would make that ride over and over again! We did make several stop to pick up passengers at random spots but we still made it to our destination on time. Highly highly recommend this experience!

We booked the Aurora Winter Train from Anchorage to Fairbanks in January 2024. The trip lasted about 12 hours, and we were able to exit the train and stretch our legs for a few minutes at two stops (Talkeetna and Denali). During the winter it is Adventure Class only - no domed observation car - which makes sense given the extreme cold.
The process of boarding was very organized. Cars and seats were assigned at check in. Staff was friendly and helpful. I appreciated the moose spotting and sightseeing tips along the way. We had beautiful, clear views of Denali, and the train even stopped for a few minutes at one spot to allow time for photos. I highly recommend getting the ride guide for more insight into what you are looking at as you travel through the landscape.
We ate all three meals in the dining car. Meals were scheduled via reservation and called in by car. Staff in the dining car was super friendly as well. The food itself was similar to what I’ve had on Amtrak dining cars. Limited options and on the expensive side, but good. If you’ve never eaten in a train dining car, be prepared to be seated at a table with randos if you are a group of 1 or 2. It’s part of the experience. There is also a cafe car if you’d rather do that.
Baggage claim at the end of the trip was just like baggage claim everywhere else - everyone stands around a big hole in the wall and waits for their bags to pop out.
The only thing I would improve is the amenities of the seats. The cars are “historic,” which looks cool, but after 12 hours a tray table and a charging port would be appreciated.

Took the Taste of Alaska tour. Incredible views between Anchorage and Seward. Everything was smooth because they plan it all for you. Great tours of Kenai Fjords, Real Alaska tour, K2 Aviation Denali flight, and Mahays Devils Canyon. Highly recommended!

Traveling with a group of Travel Advisor invited guest of Visit Anchorage, Alaska and this was one of my favorites. The meal was good and the staff was incredibly friendly. We enjoyed our train from Seward to Anchorage and saw 1 bear running away from train. The views from our gold star car was amazing. I Can't wait for next year to do this with my clients.

We took Aurora Winter Train from fairbanks to anchorage and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with the train, the condition, people and food. Before boarding the train, some people have us bad review and we were not sure but I am glad that I went ahead with it. Everything was perfection and I fully enjoyed my onboard experience

Amazing experience! You can't find a better, more scenic way to see Alaska! Are you looking to see great views of glaciers? Or to see the Denali wilderness or coastal shores of Alaska? Or wildlife?! Yes, this is the best way to see it all! Look no further for a fun, entertaining, family-friendly adventure! Yours truly, Mrs. Alaska American 2021

It was 12 hours of beautiful scenery in the comfort of a warm train. The staff was pretty great, and helped to make the trip even more memorable. This is one of our top memories in Alaska!

The goldstar class is exceptional and is fully worth the ticket cost. The glass dome presents fantastic views. There is an open deck too if you'd like the taste of fresh Alaskan air and unrestrained view of the surrounding.

This was One of the Most Fun things my Wife and I have ever done in our Whole Marriage and relationship. We met some really nice, kind and classy people. That we exchanged info to stay in touch.
The Waitstaff were great and took really good care of us.
Those young folks were Professional, Kind and Kept us safe. For the money 💰 spent this may have been our best Alaskan Purchase. getting the most for the money.
We have rode trains before, but Never a Train like the Alaskan Railroad
Do this all over again in a Heartbeat. Clean 🚻 Restrooms too. Fun Fun Fun. Saw 👀 much of the beauty of the Landscape of Akaska and some wildlife, Moose 🫎 water falls, lakes, rivers, creeks, Mountains,

I’d never ridden a train 🚂 before, but I’ll tell you what. It beats both an airplane and driving in the car.
All of the staff was incredibly friendly, the bathroom to passenger ratio was incredibly high, and the amenities were great. They served full on meals, had snacks for purchase, and also had a big viewing car for even better views.

We had ride on the Alaskan Railroad on August 31st, I like the journey and the scenery but one minus is the onboard service. The staff were great and the chief were great as well and the food was good, but please update the management skills. The train ride was 4 hours long and we finally got a chance to place our orders when 2.30 hours past buy and got our food after 3.00 hours past buy leaving us little time to eat our food. Ps: we were at table 20 the last table of the car.

The Alaska Railroad was great! We road The Denali Star and the Coastal Classic in both directions. Very comfortable and lots of food service. The Gold Star Service is definitely worth it!

We booked a package through the Alaska Railroad and had a fantastic experience from booking all the way to the fantastic staff on the train. We rode from Fairbanks to Denali to Anchorage and then to Seward and back to Anchorage. The scenery was awe inspiring, the excursions were fantastic, the meals on the train were great! Thank you for an amazing trip. For those wondering we did the Wilderness Package which was an 8 day trip

This is absolutely a must do if in Alaska. I would recommend doing gold star on one leg of your trip if you can. The views are amazing and the staff is helpful. On the first leg we were in the adventure car and the speakers were broken so we didn’t get to hear the guided tour part. But it was amazing views and we did the Gold Star car on the way back to Anchorage, it was great. Food was good although they won’t let you purchase more food (like I wanted soup and salad and an entree but it was either, I couldn’t do both, even if I wanted to purchase).
The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is an 11-mile scenic trail suitable for hiking, biking, running, and rollerblading. The path is paved and runs alongside the coast with breathtaking views along the way. You can rent a bike for $10 per day from the hostel to enjoy this magnificent experience. However, be cautious of moose while embarking on this adventure.
If you’re on a Princess land and cruise or just cruise tour then your bus most likely stops here, probably to kill time. Princess McKinley Lodge is about 40-50mins from Talkeeta and if they bused everyone in all at the same time then it would be chaos and no where to eat downside buuuut upside, you can stop at Nagley’s grab some soda, snacks, ramen, alcohol (locally sourced), sundries, souvenirs all reasonable priced! The ramen came in clutch the next day when it was super cold and we had to wait for our bus at 2pm when checkout was at 11. After reading others reviews I realized the low scores were due to lack of customer service, thankfully we didn’t experience that so 5/5 =)

Overworked, underpaid, not appreciated at all. You will get no gratification from this job other than meeting the cool locals. The boss acts like he is your friend and things when you do everything he wants but if you have doctors appointments you better cancel them, kids practices and games better not even think about asking for that time off either. But boss would come in and talk about how he gets to go to anchorage and watch his kids play. And if you fall for the work here and live in our cabin trap you will never make any money its a nice cabin but you can see thru the walls in some spots, he shut off all the floor heaters in the back of the house so it does not stay warm back there very well, would not have the chimney swept even tho i brought it to his attention and the neighbors did as well. He is overall a crook in my opinion. Nagleys is a great store in a great town full of wonderful people and places to see but the definetly need new management for sure. Heed my warning or youll find out first hand.

This is a cute little store and probably the only store in the town that has medicine! Although it’s not the best selection, it’s always something. They also have a bar, coffee and other items!
Definitely go upstairs for some fun Alaska items as well!

The man working the store was friendly with me and even helped me track down the mayor, Denali. I was able to grab a delicious latte here without having to wait in the long line for the only coffee shop in town.

We were about to jump out and visit the little town of Talkeetna for the first time when I realized that we were famished and had only eaten a Cliff Bar for breakfast. It's pretty funny when you are running around like we are, how you can literally forget to eat but thankfully, right around the time that I am overdue to eat I sneeze and realize it's time to eat. So I sneezed, and we looked over to see
Nagley's Store. It's a local landmark and has been written about in all kinds of travel guides and magazine articles. They had a restaurant called West Rib Pub and Grill. We walked in and the place was literally, well, 100 years old. It's been around 100 years. The floor creaked. There was a soft spot I avoided. The walls were lined with a century of antiques and niceties. We were of course greeted instantly by a friendly Alaskan who was doing 3 jobs at 1 time. It's safe to assume that the average alaskan can perform at least 20 jobs well at any given time. I have never seen such a capable group of people. We walked back to the restaurant area and were greated by a young lady who said something to the effect of "two?" I replied yes and she just said 'come on". She wasn't rude because she had a grin but I could tell she was a pretty tough woman. And she was wearing waders.... We sat in the back of the restaurant and we saw they had Caribou chili fries, Caribou burgers and all kinds of other awesomeness. So we ordered what I mentioned and we were super excited even with a mounted Caribou looking at us from across the restaurant. We learned in Talkeetna that we could not be in a hurry, nor tear the town up, or even quickly browse a business. I believe it's called Talkeetna.... because the people like to Talk so much! Even the depressed people will absolutely talk your ear off once they know you care and it is precious! We were sitting not being in a hurry, when a big beautiful and well fed Persian cat just came walking by us at the restaurant. I of course figured that if there is a cat in a restaurant that is not Chinese, I should talk to and pet the cat. I did, but it was too busy living its life to pay much attention to me. Then, the server who was the awesome pretty intense lady turned into an 8 year old girl and started talking to and grabbing up the cat. The server explained to us that this was the current mayor of Talkeetna. She spoke of Stubbs, the original winner of an election via write in vote, who reigned for 20 years. Then, in 2017, Stubbs passed on, and the same family eventually had Denali and Princess, who locals now say are the mayor and co mayor. They do politics interesting here we discovered.
The food was awesome, the service perfect, and the experience was one that I recommend any good person have :-)
Oh, and we were SO THANKFUL to find 4 packs of Reeds Zero Ginger Ale. It was literally the only thing we had to drink for a week other than water and coffee. We LOVE this landmark.

I love Nagley's, and not just because they had a cat who was mayor, or the fact that my grandparents were Anthony & Mary Jurasek from back in the day (local legends in that Talkeetna/Trapper Creek area I tell ya what), but because it is truly a staple to the history of the community of that area, but also the best place to buy liquor in downtown Talkeetna amen 🤘🤣💚🤘🍻🖖💯

Can't get over how cheap the coffee is. I got a 16oz Shot in the Dark: Cup of coffee with 2 espresso shots, for only $2!
across the street at one of those little sheds near the large outdoor seating area has breakfast burritos for only $8 compared to the other places for $16.
But seriously, though all of their coffee drinks were really Cheap

This place has some of the coolest thing on the wall. The hummus and Peeta bread is awesome. And the local rock in Talkeetna. Tourist season is rough. We like winter. 👍
