Alpine Adventures
Snowmobile rental service
Outdoor Activities
Alpine Adventures provided a thrilling and unforgettable snowmobile rental experience. Rudy, an exceptional guide, ensured a fantastic trip filled with breathtaking Montana scenery and exhilarating trails. The rental package included all the necessary gear such as snowmobile suits, helmets, goggles, and gloves. In addition to their excellent service, Alpine Adventure's staff displayed kindness by offering their own helmet when one guest's goggles froze over.
What an incredible day!!!! Rudy provided us with everything and was SO kind, he really went above and beyond. I wanted more of a chill day and my husband wanted fast and furious and it was absolutely perfect.. we had a better time than we could have imagined! And for a steal of a price. Memories that will last a lifetime :)

A truly wonderful local company. Sometimes I have to use a big company for guides or rentals when I travel. But every time I support the small local business I get the most memorable experiences. Rudy is a local legend and I felt honored just to spend a day with him.
Sleds were in good shape, routes were fun and flexible, no pressure, only fun times exploring the back country together.
It was my first time on a snow mobile and they were very kind as I got comfortable with the machine.
Book your trip and plan for fun !

What an EPIC day!! If I could give a 10 star rating I would! Alpine Adventures is hands down the best small local business to rent from! It was a privilege getting to know Rudy, and Wyatt gave us the ride of a lifetime! Our day was full of laughs and adventure and the views were BREATHTAKING! We were able to experience some off road adventures as well which is another perk of using a small business. They are here for the experience and not just the money! Thank you Rudy and Wyatt for creating such amazing memories for us! We can’t wait to come back!

Rudie was great, and such a good time! Snow came early this year so we got to go just a few days after thanksgiving. Great time! Make sure you bless this man! God bless
Christian — Google review
I cannot recommend Alpine Adventures enough! When looking at the website, it doesn’t look like they do guided snowmobile tours but Rudy will “guide” you the whole way. Wonderful views at a great price! We can’t way to go again.
Courtney Gore — Google review
We had an amazing experience snowmobiling in Big Sky thanks to Rudy and his team. Not only did they make our tight schedule work on a moment’s notice, they also came to pick us up at our hotel and provided all the right gear. Thanks to their dedication, the entire family had a great time and we can’t wait to do it again. I would recommend Alpine Adventures whole-heartedly.

If I could, I'd give this 6 or 7 stars out of five. Nobody knows the area and terrain better than Rudy at Alpine Adventures--He's a true outdoorsman who knows every inch of the region.
My wife and I had never been snowmobiling before, and we were THRILLED that Rudy was back and able to give tours again!! He and Wyatt were so great to be with on our half-day adventure. The equipment was excellent, too. When we went, there wasn't a ton of snow in the area, but Rudy and Wyatt had scouted things out the day before, so they took us to a less traveled path since all the other snowmobiling companies had torn up the more popular paths.
I can't recommend this place enough!!!!

This was an adventure. Rudy was an excellent guide, took us on a great trip. We got to experience great Montana scenery, great trails and lots of fun in the powder. All the gear, snowmobile suits, helmets and goggles and gloves were provided by Alpine Adventure as part of the rental. We had a blast, thank you very much. When my girlfriends goggles froze over completely Rudy volunteered his own helmet so she could continue to enjoy the ride, that was very nice. We will be back in the summer to ride side by sides, and we calling Rudy for sure!!!

Once in a lifetime experience! Rudy was an excellent “guide” and took care of us the entire
trip - included all the gear we needed. Breathtaking views…felt like we had the entire mountain to ourselves. Thank you Alpine for a memory we will never forget.

Rudy and his staff were great. High recommend him. Went snowmobiling and they provided all the equipment you needed. Stop at great scenic point to take pictures

We would highly recommend Rudy and his crew at Alpine Adventures. They made it possible for us to go and have a blast snowmobiling yesterday. They couldn’t have been more Accommodating with everything to make it such a fun afternoon. It was the first time for our daughter and her boyfriend and they are absolutely loved it. We will all definitely be coming back to go again.
Big Sky Chapel is a stunning wedding venue with seamless communication and helpful staff. The chapel's gorgeous setting and excellent amenities make it a popular choice for couples looking to tie the knot in a beautiful location. The presence of a baby grand piano, decent organ, and ample parking add to the appeal of this lovely chapel.
We had a wedding here because of the spectacular view.
Pastor was lovely,all staff excellent.
A very popular chapel.
There is a baby grand piano and a decent organ.
Good roads and ample parking.

I had my wedding at Big Sky Chapel in December 2019. It is such a beautiful chapel set in a spectacular location. Communication with chapel staff was seamless and they were so helpful. I was so fortunate to be able to be married in such a beautiful place.

My daughter's May 2017 wedding was held at the Big Sky Chapel. It was absolutely wonderful, from the planning process to the actual event! Communication with the church staff was seamless. The chapel is gorgeous and made this an occasion that was second to none. Thank you!

It is a friendly place and it has an amazing view. They have a good non-denominational service and the music was well done.
This was our second trip up here and we're as blown away as the first time. There's a reason this is one of the most hiked trails in the area. We've done a spring and winter hike now and it was beyond words both times. Nothing like sitting in perfect silence at a lake surrounded by mountains. Depending on your skill, you may want to wear micro spikes this time of year because the path is 100% packed down snow. Perfectly fine without them though. GPS watch clocked us in around 5.3 miles round trip.
Stephen G — Google review
Beautiful moderately challenging hike to the lake. Lots of shade and the trail is well maintained. Being such a high trafficked trail, you will need to walk around the lake a ways to find a spot of your own to sit and take in the stunning views.

Recommend hiking the M-Trail to get you acclimated to the elevation (altitude hike test), that's what our friends did for me to get me used to breathing in colder and less oxygenated air.
Elevation starts at about 3300 ft and gets to about 5000 ft.
Hard trail with many stops for this asthmatic HTX girl upwards ~ 4-5 hrs hike to the top and 1-1.5 hrs hike down. We crossed 4-5 frozen creeks, 1 bridge and endless switch-backs (I thought were never ending).
We went just after the random snow this past weekend, bought some shoe-spikes (much needed, worth every penny) at the rate we were moving would have taken forever without them.
Saw animal footprints but no animal sightings other then a squirrel 🐿️.
The views were breathtakingly beautiful.
Thu Pham — Google review
I loved this hike. It’s a decent workout on the way up but absolutely worth it. The lake views at the top are stunning. It’s about 6 miles round trip. We passed lots of people on the trail but it wasn’t overcrowded by any means. Everyone was friendly and we met several really nice people while relaxing by the lake. I didn’t see any bears but definitely carried bear spray just in case. Highly recommend doing this one!
Danielle H — Google review
Great day hike. 6 miles round trip. A moderate hike, rocky trail with a perpetual climb. Trail is in the shade most of the way. The payoff is picturesque. A must do.
Jimmy Glass — Google review
Fill lots of oxygen in your lungs and store on lot of stamina. It’s just 4.5 miles trail one way, but it’s straight up.
However the view of the lake is breath taking and worth taking a dip.
Happy hiking and dipping

This would literally be a national park if it were in any other state. It honestly puts a lot of other national parks to shame
Andrew Snider — Google review
One of the coolest hikes I’ve ever done. Definitely worth the effort to make it to the lake at the top. The view of the lake is amazing. If you want to take a dip in the lake just be prepared because it is cold!
Spencer Morgan — Google review
I didn't hike the trail but I liked the trailhead a lot. Great place to park for the night and drift off listening to the river flow by, surrounded by pine covered mountains and granite rock slides. There was quite a bit of traffic on the highway in the morning though. There's a bathroom there as well.
NomadShabs — Google review
First off Lava Lake is stunning. One of the most picturesque places I've ever been too.
The trail itself is around 3 Miles to the lake and 3 Miles back. It is very simple to follow however it is extremely rocky. I would only recommend it to those with a good base fitness and can walk up inclines for a prolonged period of time (2 hrs each way).
If you are fit and healthy then what a treat once you get to the top!
Paul Kyle — Google review
Vigorous uphill 3 mile hike with uneven rocky surface. Gorgeous woods and big payoff at the top for a cold plunge.
Busy on the weekends. 6 miles RT.
Kerthy Fix — Google review
The trail was fairly brutal on the way up. The scenery was gorgeous. You walk uphill next to a roaring creek through a forest. There are 3 times you have to cross the creek. My thighs were staring to doubt I would reach it, but the lake was beautiful. We made it back down in less than half the time it took going up. It was worth the effort.
Donna Cooper — Google review
3 miles uphill to get there, but it is worth the hike. Start early (9:00a or before) to avoid the crowds and get a good parking spot. Take plenty of water and some energy snacks. I hiked it with my 11 year old daughter and she loved it. We had to stop several times on the way up, but that's just fine and she told me she glad she went once we got to the top. Good thing about all uphill out is that means all downhill going back! Can't wait to do this one again!

Fantastic Family Fun Day for 6 (ages 11-47). Highly recommend the Zip & Dip package. Perfect introduction of both activities leaving my kids wanting more, "next time can we do class 4 rapids and the 6 bridge zip". Thank you to the staff for unforgettable experience for our family.

Had a great experience. My wife did not want to go but was glad she did after. The views were breathtaking and Julianna was a great guide. Would definitely do this one again next time we are in town.

Our first time zip lining. Did the Classic and happy we did. Anna and Joey are great guides. The landing is easier and gentler than it looks! Fantastic views over the Gallatin River.

We had an amazing time whitewater rafting with Montana Whitewater Rafting. I have to say that aside from this place being extremely organized and very knowledgeable the guides really made it extra fun. I highly recommend this outfit to anyone looking to whitewater raft in Montana. I cannot say enough good things about our guide Clara, she was fun, professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. Thank you Clara for being amazing…

First off I hate heights more than anything but, I had a great time still. My wife loved every minute.
The zips were amazing and had great scenery especially the ones that went over the river.
The guides were really funny and kept everything light hearted which is what I needed so big thanks to Sean and kayden or k money. I believe that was their names.

We had an awesome experience! Our guide Elizabeth was fun and knowledgeable…she made us comfortable throughout. My family has 2 non swimmers but we all felt safe and had a great time out at the river! Definitely give it a try if you are in the area…it’s an experience to remember :)

We were fortunate enough to be able to book in on the same day for White water rafting. Our guide was Gareth and he did an amazing job with us (2 adults and 2 children).
It was so hot outside that it was a great pleasure by each boy to be dunked in the water where it was calm.
Gareth was very effective at mitigating any dangers that we could have faced, especially with young children. At no point did any of us feel overwhelmed for our levels.
We found all of the rest of the staff to be friendly and more than willing to assist us with anything that we needed.
We highly recommend families to come here and enjoy the nature of the river.

Amazing experience. Did the half day more challenging Gallatin River run, our guide was Gavin Cooper and he was simply amazing, kept us all safe and made you feel confident on the river. Highly recommend this place. Get out there!
Erika — Google review
We booked a private boat for a family friendly "less challenging" whitewater trip as we had 2 young kids (ages 6 and 7) coming along. The river is high this time of year so it was a lot faster and rougher than expected. They put us with a senior guide, Robert and he was awesome! He gave clear instructions, and the kids were screaming with excitement (thankfully the photos confirmed this) the whole time. From booking the trip, getting outfitted with all the gear, drop off/pickup, etc....it was all super organized and easy! We all had a great time, felt completely safe and would highly recommend Montana Whitewater!
Stephanie Smith — Google review
We had a great time rafting with Montana Whitewater! Our guide Cameron was friendly, easy going, and very knowledgeable. The staff walk you through everything you'll need for the trip and they provide all the gear, which is included in the fee. We had fantastic weather (I don't think Montana Whitewater can take credit for that, lol) and a really fun crew on our trip down the Gallatin. The youngest in our group was 8 and the oldest was a grandpa and we all had a great time! Definitely a must do experience at least once while on your Montana adventures!
Seren Shank — Google review
We had an amazing trip down the Gallatin River with Montana Whitewater today! Amazing views and the rapids were an absolute blast. Our guide Barbo was a serious pro at what he does and kept us safe and very entertained! He was hilarious and also a wealth of knowledge about the area. We couldn’t have been happier. A cool adventure. Highly recommend!
Grace Nowak — Google review
Great time! Every single person we interacted with really seemed to love what they do
We did the less challenging white water rafting with our 7 year old. Henry was our guide and kept us entertained in the calm water and in the action during rapids
We also did a zip line with Kaiden and Chase (Chance?). These guys were amazing. Kaiden had our son attached to him for the zips, and he was incredibly patient. Our son was TERRIFIED in the beginning, but by the end he was laughing
Thank you for the great memories!!

We had a wonderful time learning some XC Skiing basics from Jodi this weekend. My wife and I are brand new to the sport, and it can be a bit intimidating starting from scratch with a new activity as an adult, but Jodi made us feel welcome and answered all our questions (including some we didn't know we had).
I had a small crash which resulted in one of my bindings breaking and an internal spring flying out. Jodi went back to where I crashed later in the day and actually found the missing spring, then contacted my wife with instructions on where we could pick it up so I wouldn't have to buy new bindings. She went above and beyond, and couldn't have been nicer to work with during our lesson... I'd strongly suggest getting a lesson from Jodi if you're just getting into XC skiing, or if you've been off your skis for a while and want a refresher.

Hesitant to give all the raving accolades of this magical place in case it gets too busy! So many great days spent in the woods. Great trails, great staff… beautiful facility. Fun for the whole family or a great day by myself. Love Crosscut!

I have played 200+ disc golf courses across 26 states, some of them in the top 20 courses in the world. The old disc golf courses on this property are still my favorite courses I have ever played. The current owners should be ashamed for removing such a magical spot for the sport of disc golf. This place could have been a Disc Golf Pro Tour destination.

Great selection of beautifully maintained trails. My rental skis were perfect and the scenery was stunning. If I’m ever back in Bozeman I would absolutely ski here again

Great for mountain biking (free!) in the summer and for skate and classic skiing in the winter. They have really fun mountain biking camps, too.

We are so lucky to have Crosscut! It's so nice to have somewhere to ski that gets groomed every morning! The communication is excellent about races/trail closures and grooming. It's a stunning place to ski, too and so nice to have even more miles to ski with the new trails.

Always friendly folks at the shop/office and on the trails. Great trails with amazing variety of terrain. Consistent excellent grooming of the entire trail system. In addition to extensive set track and skate ski trails they maintain a unique single track system for classic ski and snow bikes. Love their bring your dog days.

Bridger Bowl Ski Area is a popular non-profit skiing destination with 8 lifts supporting 75 runs. It offers great terrain, views, snow quality and fair prices. The resort's amenities such as food and drinks are enjoyable while the staff is helpful and friendly towards all visitors. One of the best aspects of this ski area is that it isn't crowded which makes it perfect for families with kids who can enjoy themselves without any fuss or long lines!
This place has some of awesome terrain, views, snow, prices. Absolutely no crowds. Friendly service. Great for kids.

Affordable, Fun, with outstanding skiing and facilities.
We didn’t want to spend a fortune at Big Sky and we are now Bridger people! The skiing was great. There is terrain for anyone at any skill level and the facility is more than large enough to not be stuck on the same runs over and over all day.
There are four lodges throughout the made and mountain and all of them have delicious food and are very clean and well maintained. Getting our lift tickets in the morning was quick and easy and every employee we dealt with the whole trip was extremely friendly and helpful. Bridger Bowl is a great place for anyone looking for a fantastic, affordable ski trip.

This is definitely a top class ski area. I’m from Houston Texas so when it comes to skiing I’m definitely out of my element as it’s just not something that I have ever learned how to do. Came here today and the staff was super welcoming and helpful/friendly. Went on the baby ski slope and kind of got some basics down on how to ski and move around. For anyone new to skiing like me I’d highly recommend taking some ski lessons as ultimately that’s the route I’m going to go. Definitely a lot harder than it looks and I have all the respect in the world for folks that can ski well for sure, as this isn’t easy. The other slopes and areas look incredible so hopefully once I get my skill level to a respectable level I’ll be able to take on the more challenging stuff. Also something worth mentioning is the cafeteria on site is incredibly good and they have lots of good choices for food. Highly recommended this place as it’s a lot of fun!

The place I fell in love.... With snowboarding 😅🏂❄️ we always have a good time. Even if we leave limping. It's a convenient place to go for a pretty affordable price (compared to big sky) The staff are kind and happy. The food is a little expensive and not the best, so we pack sammiches. Overall, a laid back place with great views 😎

Great spot for first time skiers. We went with locals from the area because we needed a low key spot where the kids could learn how to ski and have fun. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave great advice and recommendations. We decided to get the kids into a group lesson at 12:30pm. It was a 2 and a half hour lesson with a total of 5 kids in the group. Megan their instructor was awesome! She had the kids doing the basics in no time. The kids loved her so much we signed up again the next day for private lessons with her. We also had Margo help the older more advanced kids and she was very good as well. The equipment rental staff was again very friendly and helpful especially with first timers who didn’t know how to wear or use the boots, skis etc. the on-site cafeteria has good options for food and the Bar had delicious belly warmer cocktails. Overall we spent two days at Bridger Bowl and loved it so much. Highly recommend for beginners and families with younger kids.

This was our first Montana Ski experience and we will be back! What a treasure Bridger Bowl is. Friends of mine had told me it’s a “hidden gem” and isn’t that the truth! Bridger Bowl makes a Montana ski experience possible for big families. You get incredible mountain skiing experiences for a great price. So many options at the multiple chalets to eat and hang out. Great staff all around, everyone is friendly! Really fun skiing, excellent snow and well groomed runs, and plenty of options for all levels of skiers. We had 5 teenagers on the trip and they were highly satisfied and impressed, not always an easy accomplishment!

This is a great value ski. The negative reviews here just seem like grumpy jingleheimers. The slopes were perfect and had great powder today. I went on a holiday as well and it was not too crowded at all. The lodges are decent, ski passes are fairly priced for the value, and it was not overcrowded even in the holiday. Overall it is an excellent value that I would recommend.

Cool little resort close to town. Gets super crowded on powder days. Grooming is pretty much non-existent on this mountain. Many of the runs are littered with choppy moguls. There's not much off piece skiing unless you hike the ridge. Could be way better with a few more lifts and daily grooming.

A really good skiing area, they have great places to start skiing, and some pretty good intermediate skiing areas, but there aren’t very much. More up the mountain they have a lot more of advanced and proficient hills. Great place to start though, and i’d really recommend.

We hosted our wedding in September 2023 at the mid-mountain Deer Park Chalet at Bridger Bowl and it was WONDERFUL! In the winter, Deer Park is a cafeteria-style dining establishment – but in the summer, it is a beautiful event venue. I cannot sing Jimbo and his team’s praises enough. Jimbo is extremely communicative and helpful. We were able to tour the venue twice and utilize many of the decorations they have collected throughout the seasons. The food is done in-house and was raved about by our guests (bison tenderloin and chicken piccata). The venue is accessible via personal vehicle and bus service, which was a huge plus! It is absolutely gorgeous and truly speaks for itself. I highly recommend considering using Bridger Bowl’s Deer Park Chalet for your next event, wedding or otherwise. Oh, and the skiing is great too!
The Museum of the Rockies located in Bozeman, Montana is a world-class cultural and natural history museum that boasts an extensive collection of dinossaur fossils. The museum features a fully mounted T. Rex skeleton that was completely uncovered in Montana. The museum also features exhibits on regional and native history as well as laser planetarium shows.
The exhibit was amazing! So many kinds of dinosaur bones and fossils and very cool American Indian displays as well as some antique cars and quilts and replicas of the way people used to live. Went to the planetarium. It was somewhat interesting, but not enough to maintain my focus. I had hoped that Montana Sky would've been showing all of the stars at night and expanding to an outer space journey showing galaxies and constellations from telescopes and in space. That would've been amazing for the planetarium room.... Instead, it was just diagrams basically of the stars in our system and how to find them. Well, that's what I got out of it. Regardless, the Museum of the Rockies is definitely worth seeing. Their gift shop is very nice, too.

Wonderful museum for kids and adults. Nicely curated with a great collection of dinosaur exhibits (including Montana's T-Rex). I also caught the Da Vinci exhibition outlining his many famous paintings and brilliant inventions (highly interactive). A wonderful facility--highly recommended.

We visited Museum of the Rockies for spring break and we had a great time. The planetarium was by far our favorite! We loved watching the stars and seeing the Montana skies. It was very educational and we loved seeing the exhibits. We certainly will recommend. My son is seven and he loved it. His favorite was everything but especially the Montana sky show!

Great local museum! I especially loved the pioneer exhibits, lots of strange little trinkets from people moving west. Excellent dinosaur exhibit as well! For a small museum, there's a lot to see. Definitely worth a wander!

We visited the Museum of the Rockies on a weekday, early morning when they opened. We tried the day before in the afternoon, but the parking lot was completely packed so we went next day. The morning was perfect! No wait and the staff was super friendly and helpful in guiding us on how to see everything in the museum. Perfect for littles who love dinosaurs and there are other exhibits and artwork that I enjoyed so much. Agree with other reviews that this is a nice stop to make if you're in the area.

Great museum - specifically the dinosaur exhibits and the outdoor 'living history' house. AAA discount and senior discounts are available, too. I would recommend 2-3 hours to walk through everything and get the full experience.

Pretty cool little museums with a bunch of dinosaurs 🦕, info on the moon, and a planetarium. It is informative and a great place to take the kids.
Eddie R — Google review
Though my daughter (age 5) enjoyed herself and doesn't know the difference, I have to say that there was disappointment in my heart that the animatronic dinosaurs are gone. They really brought paleontology alive for me when I was younger!! The wheel on the dime collector was missing, and not one of the pencils at the drawing station in the interactive portion was sharp enough to actually use. We also were unable to make it to the kids show at the planetarium as it is available only once in the whole week! We'll be returning, of course, because there isn't anything to compare in the greater area, and she did still enjoy her experience.
Rebecca Rae — Google review
Great place to learn history of dinosaurs, native Americans, early settlers, and much more. I also sat through a showing of a super volcano in the planetarium.
Grandson loved the place, younger 10 year old did okay, was a lot to take in.
Eager staff, that I think is part of the college kids who work also with digging up bones...staff the entire place and will answer any questions you may have.
Nice gift shop.
I would come back to this if I was driving this way again.

This museum has a full t-rex skeleton. This alone will be worth the full price of admission for some. There’s actually a lot about dinosaurs here, as well as exhibits about the natives of Montana and even some classic cars. A planetarium is also here, but it is pretty cramped and the video they showed, while interesting, did make half the audience dizzy.
This place will be more interesting soon when they get their new temporary exhibits up, but none were there on this day. Still a rather good museum all things considered.

The Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana, offers an informative and engaging showcase of DaVinci's works and inventions, providing remarkable insights into the creative genius of this ahead-of-his-time man. The museum's diverse exhibits, including the captivating dinosaur display and a collection of transportation and housing artifacts, add to the experience. The Living Farm exhibit at the Tinsley House offers a nostalgic journey into the past, perfect for photographers and those interested in history. With a range of displays and a 20-minute IMAX film, the visit can span 2-3 hours, allowing reflection on each exhibit. While the admission is $20 for adults, discounts are available for AAA, seniors, and children. With something for visitors of all ages, the Museum of the Rockies promises an enriching and enjoyable visit.

Located about 7mins from downtown Main Street this is a good museum for young visitors and most of the exhibits are about dinosaurs 🦖
The outbuilding are worth the visit to understand what farming life was like back in the day.

I visited the Museum of the Rockies in July 2023. Amazing museum and really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit. The fossels were amazing to see and a must if you're passing through or staying in the Yellowstone area.
Brian Lawson — Google review
The Museum of the Rockies hosts seasonal rotating exhibits (microbes during our visit at the end of December 2023) as well as permanent installations exploring Montana's geology, paleontology and Old West history. The dinosaur exhibit is the best part of the museum. If you have young guests, the upper floor is a good place for babies and small children to play and learn too. For an additional fee, there are regular planetarium shows, and seasonally a historic working farm.
As in-state, but out-of-town guests, we visit once or twice a year. Rotating exhibits are a hit or miss, but we always look forward to visiting the dinosaurs, seeing a planetarium show and shopping in the gift shop.
Imagine my shock and disappointment to learn that as of January 2024, MOR is no longer honoring ASTC members from Helena, even though it is 99 miles outside the local area of Bozeman. Since there are so few museums in Montana as it is, this really is a blow to our cultural and learning opportunities.

Great Dino exhibits and always has an interesting rotating exhibit. Great interactive area for kid on the 3rd floor. Always a great way to spend a couple of hours with the whole family Planetarium and other videos are always a treat as well.

This museum was so much fun! There were loads of dinosaur fossils with lots of educational information. It was really neat to learn about everything that was found locally, especially the collection of triceratops of all different ages. The planetarium show was a must see as well. Fun for kids and adults alike.
Michelle Beoris — Google review
The dinos are fascinating, and they have some great exhibits, but they had no rotating exhibit, and the price was the same. It isn't the biggest of deals but there wasn't much else to see besides the dinos, cars, a native American exhibit (which I could talk about but wont), and the planetarium shows that we're, sorry to say, lack luster. I LOVE a good museum, and this was good...just needed someone to run the planetarium that didn't make me want to sleep. Super nice, though.
The Downtown Bozeman Partnership is a non-profit organization that serves as a central source of information for shopping, dining, culture and events in the charming downtown area. This trendy college town is well-groomed with beautifully decorated corridors and an up-and-coming downtown scene. Despite some businesses displaying Black Nationalist symbols which may make some people uncomfortable, the atmosphere is generally friendly and welcoming.
Spend two days in Bozeman (at least) to give yourself time to hit Main Street and take in as many shops and bars and restaurants as you can. The Main Street is awesome but go down some side streets as well. Also, get out for some nearby hikes like Drinking Horse and the “M”. If you are lucky, maybe there will be a street festival for music or art. Farmer’s market is on Tuesday!

Of course there are great shops and restaurants. But who knew Bozeman was so artsy??!! Stop in at the local galleries to see work from local artists. Then stroll along Main Street to catch glimpses of world class sculptures. You can find the guide map posted at Soroptimist Park at the corner of Main and S.Rouse Ave. Don’t miss the sculptures at the Bozeman Public Library too. The town of Bozeman is festooned with world class sculptures. Gem!!!

The American Computer & Robotics Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of computing technologies. The museum has a collection of old computers and has done short overviews on various technologies throughout the year. It is great for computer and robot enthusiasts, or just to learn something.
An incredible museum put together by people with immense expertise, knowledge, and endless passion. Barbara is a national treasure who can walk you thru how written language contributed to the beginning of computing... And then all the way to microprocessors and Quantum Computing.
Highly recommend visiting, I've been over half a dozen times and learn something new with each visit. I have always loved computers and this museum is a triumphant celebration of how far humanity has come. 10/10.

Great little gem of a museum. Very knowledgeable front desk person gave us a 10-15 minute introduction. Notable exhibits included a replica if the Antikythera mechanism, a range of early computer models and a rotor from an enigma machine. Not as many exhibits on robotics but the ones there were wonderful. No wait and very reasonable cost. Most definitely worth the time to stop here!

Amazing place. Would definitely go back again. I highly recommend it, even if you don't really care about computers. They even have real, ancient computers.

Tucked away among offices, professional services and such. GPS will get you there, but you might have to look around a little for the right door. No biggie. It's got interesting stuff mostly from WWII to the early 90s, but some stuff much older and a little newer. If you grew up on the era where it was IBM versus Apple, game consoles, and early car phones, you'll love it. The gift area has some good books that might fancy you, but not too much in souvenirs.

We were in search of something inexpensive to do in Bozeman. This was $10 for an adult and $7.50 for seniors. Quite interesting if you know computers or have a background in IT. A lot of it was over my head. There's an impressive number of artifacts on display for how small it is. The man at the desk was very friendly and helpful.

Spectacular museum! We got there 30min before closing so we did not have time to fully embrace the awesomeness, but nonetheless it was amazing! Seeing a 256G SanDisk USB made me feel outdated 🤣, can't believe those are already history! I recommend this museum to everyone passing through Bozeman, MT! Definitely nerded out 😁

Compact museum, but super interesting knowledge and legendary items kept within. Staff were super knowledgeable and gave a run-through of the early history, and we were left on our own to investigate the other rooms, AI, quantum, enigma, apple etc.
Lots of signed items and donations. Be sure to take some time to visit and be amazed.

A nice way to spend an hour or so. Very informative and they have a nice collection of old computers including many signed objects from the likes of Paul Allen, Steve Wozniak, and John Glenn amoung many others. Enjoyed the 15minute overview of things when I first walked in as well. Made more for adults as well as programers and space enthusiast compared to children or even high school kids.

This is a low-key museum in campus-type building but has a lot of amazing stuff. It's worth spending time and unbelievably it is free. I recently visited the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture in Bozeman, Montana and I have to say it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The center is home to a diverse range of art exhibits, performances, and cultural events that truly showcase the essence of Montana.
The exhibits themselves were stunning - both visually appealing and thought-provoking. It is beautifully designed and maintained, making it the perfect setting for the various art exhibits and cultural events that take place there.
What really stood out to me during my visit was the passion and dedication of the staff and volunteers at the Emerson. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the art pieces and eager to share their insights with visitors. The center seems to be a true hub for the arts community in Bozeman, with a wide range of workshops, classes, and events taking place throughout the year.
All in all, I would highly recommend a visit to the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture to anyone in the Bozeman area. Whether you are an art enthusiast or just looking for an engaging cultural experience, the Emerson has something to offer. Five stars all the way!

The Gallatin History Museum is a small local museum in the old county jail. There is a lot of jail history exhibits, but there are also lots of pioneer history exhibits. There are also some things that kids can touch, which makes it great for families. The museum is run by volunteers and self-supported, and they have a great bookstore with lots of Montana history as well as western, cowboy, and Yellowstone books.

Superb Museum of Regional History! It's also within walking distance from most of Main St, it's affordable, and it's fun. Frontier life and law enforcement will command your attention once you're inside. While visiting Bozeman, you should prioritize a visit here.
Allow yourself a couple of hours though, as you'll easily get lost chasing your imagination around in this converted jailhouse...especially at the gallows and the intense local history surrounding it.
And then there's...

Great little museum, run by enthusiastic Bozeman historians. Enjoying learning about the early days of the Wild West, pioneer living, and who the early fathers of Bozeman / Montana where. The tunnel to the court house and a peek at its archives was also fascinating. A little gem packed with history.

EXCELLENT history museum. If at all possible, try to get one of the staff to give you a tour (or at least a partial tour, makes all the difference in the world). We had a docent whose family is 4th or 5th generation in the area so she was very knowledgeable. I found the prison and prisoner info (including the gallows) fascinating. If you're a history buff give yourself at least 2 hours to tour this museum. The installations on the early homesteaders is also worth checking out. A real highlight of my visit to Bozeman.

We trully learned a lot by reading and viewing what was on display. It was extremely interesting and showed how different life was and how surprisingly it wasn't that far in the past.
Went with my friends and we had SO much fun! It was mentally challenging and definitely pushed us, but we had so much fun along the way. Not too spooky, just good solid vibes that made us immediately want to come back. Thank you so much to the staff for giving us an experience to remember!

Was okay, instructions were given really fast. Wasn't too excited to leave my phone in an unlocked box out front. The room was in need of some basic repairs. It was a well used escape room and you could tell people had tore it apart before and they had kinda tried to fix it.
Kayla Cline — Google review
We had a blast doing the Heist room! The puzzle was well put together and just the right combination of not too easy and not too hard. This was our first time doing a break out room and the beginning instructions were very vague and difficult to follow. We were also disappointed a couple different times when we were asking for a hint and we had to wait quite awhile until the person working was back at their desk. The end felt really brief and anticlimactic. He very quickly went over what we were missing in the last clue we had gotten stuck on, but was very short and awkward and didn't do any of the ending photos with props that we expected. Overall, the room was a great experience, the customer service not so much.

I did the asylum escape room with my boyfriend and it was honestly the worst escape room I have ever done. There weren’t any lockers for our stuff but rather an unlocked box. The compass we were using appeared to be broken and wasted the majority of our time trying to figure it out. At the end when he came into the room I asked him what we were supposed to do with one of the clues and he said it had nothing to do with escaping the room. Then why was it locked in the drawer if it was useless?? Definitely will not be going back to this place; it was a waste of money and the rooms are supposed to be challenging and fun not impossible and frustrating.

It's a lengthy, bumpy ride there however upon arrival you realize why you took the trip. There are different pathways to take and you can walk on them for a good while. 30 miles from Bozeman Hotsprings RV Park. Zero chance to get lost if your phone has a verbal navigator. *! Last 2 miles into Buffalo Jump State Park is a Rail road ROUGH gravel road that will shake your teeth out over 5 m.p.h..
The park ? has a Clean rest room, plenty of parking AND a lock box & envelope to pay if you leave your car. $8.00 for out of state. No water, concession stand, no tables or chairs available. Not my idea of Kid or pet friendly. From your car to the only covered view point info center is 1/4 mile, up hill on a 1 person wide dirt trail. ALL up & down to the Top of the Plateau. 2 miles round trip AND you can get caught in a Thunder storm Down pour with only scrub trees to hide under. STUNNING Magnificent view for those fit enough to make it to the top. Go only as far as your legs/lungs will take you. I am 70. However i have been a laborer for the last 34 yrs. Worth the extra drive to get to the trailhead. There is a short mile and a half return hike to the interpretive kiosk and back. Very easy walking and the interpretive displays are very well done.
The longer walk will take you to the top of the buffalo jump itself. Some steep climbs involved. It is not half as dangerous at the top as it sounds. The view across to the Madison River is exceptional.

The hot spring pool at Norris Hot Springs flows into a cool spray system which makes it a fun place to relax. The campground has a live music venue in the evening, and is family-friendly during the day.
My husband and I are from Southern Illinois and visiting Livingston for our honeymoon and stumbled upon Norris Hotsprings. We were looking at a couple of venues for hot springs and what stood out the most about Norris' location was that we could book a private soak. Let me tell you the price was well, WELL worth it. 26° outside and the water was the perfect temperature. The gal behind the counter was helpful, personable, and an absolute joy to speak with. The 2 hr time slot was a perfect amount of time to decompress and unwind, with champagne and food to enjoy as well. They also had a gorgeous and talkative old "man" who graced us with his presence for a few minutes! 10/10 will be back whenever we make it back out here!

A unique spot to visit !
No chlorinated water or treatment of any kind as the spring flows at 60 gallons per minute.
Pretty nice place for a dip & a healthy bite to eat (or a drink if you’re into that kind of thing.)
I like the live music year round on the weekends. Get there early !
Only one pool & no cold water dip (there is a cold water sprinkler of sorts in the one pool.)
A spot to enjoy if you’re camping, floating or fishing on the Madison river.
A Montana tradition not to be missed !

We had a private 2 person soak in early January/winter for 2 full hours and loved every minute of it. From the excellent water and temperature to the perfect playlist, music level, and vibe, this was an awesome experience. Not quite snow on the ground, but a nice crisp air in contrast to the perfect temperature water.
The bartender, Miles, was perfect - just the right amount of checking in on us and offering more food or drinks and mainly just leaving us alone to soak. Beer/wine/kombucha and great food without having to leave the water.
A perfect two hour experience and well worth it. I hope this place stays exactly like it is, wood floor and walls, minimally developed (just enough), and a great vibe.
No idea how it is when there's more people there, but I imagine this draws a great crowd of people who are comfortable with it exactly how it is, and it's still fun and worth a visit during the open admission periods.

I had a great time here for a 1.5 hours trip, even in the rain! Very casual and small, but the local food and bar was a lovely bonus. It was perfect as a solid traveler, the pool made it easy to talk to strangers and hang. Would definitely go back.

Nice pool for adults to hang out, kids too. $10 per adult. Wooden benches line the edge so you can sit and soak up to your shoulders. There is cold water spraying into the “pool” from above and that makes it cold when the wind blows. Food available menu has salads, nachos, pizza, rice bowls etc. also, ciders and beer. Changing rooms available and porta potties.

We spent two nights at the affiliated campground here and had to spend a few hours soaking in the hot spring. It's a really cool pool with a wood slat bottom. They cool the water to around 100 degrees so it's comfortable, and have cold water spraying over part of the pool so you can cool off if the heat gets to be too much.
The real winner here was the attached garden-to-table bar and grill which had plenty of food and drink options. Many items on the menu are prepared with fresh ingredients from the extensive on-site garden!
Definitely a great way to spend an afternoon.

Best hot springs in Montana! Friendly staff supplying you with local delicious beers and fresh delicious food. It's awesome when it's from their greenhouse as well. I recently moved so I'm going to miss you Norris. Thanks for all the great times ❤️☺️.

I somehow had high hopes for this place but it turned out to be a disappointment. The pool itself didn’t seem very clean and hygienic. The bottom of the pool was filled with moss and very slippery. It made me nervous. The restrooms and the changing rooms were stinking of pee. The food and drinks were good and that’s the only plus. I wish the pool was better maintained. The scenery around was very nice.

When I reserved two nights at this campground, it was only $33 per night (it's since gone up to $50/night). Given that and the "middle of nowhere" factor, I came into it with low expectations of a short stop on our way to Yellowstone.
What we got here, rather, completely blew me away. My only gripe is that the sites are very small - not enough room for a picnic table on the narrow site. However, the bath house was one of the nicest and cleanest I've ever seen. The surroundings are beautiful, and the access to the hot springs made it a great experience. There was a lady doing landscaping who was one of the hardest working people I've ever seen, and it shows in the beauty of the place and surroundings.
At $33, it was a steal. But even at $50 its still a solid value. Highly recommend!

4 of us adults did a private 2hour soak. It was amazing! Drinks(during) and salads(after) were delicious! Definitely a must visit when in the Bozeman area! Relaxing and unforgettable experience!
State park where Lewis & Clark stayed in 1805, with campgrounds, hiking trails & kayaking.
Very pretty place with lots of fascinating history. Has easy walking trails that are good for dogs and kids.

I was traveling across i94 and then i90. I’ve been intrigued by the Lewis and Clark expedition for a while and I kept seeing signs along the interstate that it was the Lewis and Clark trail.
So when I saw the sign for this park, I knew it was a key point in their journey. Just a couple miles off the interstate, I took the time to drive there and ended up spending 90 excited minutes exploring. Lots of great history and some good viewpoints you can climb up to fairly easily.

We are from Missouri so it was cool to see the Missouri River Headwaters. The ranger followed us to where we parked and was very quick to tell us that it was 8 bucks to park. We paid 8 bucks and spend a total of 10 minutes there. It was weird and not worth 8 bucks but they knew they could get it so they did.

Not what I expected for a state park. Took us a total of a half hour to see it all. Not sure it was even worth the entrance fee.

Visited during the winter and was disappointed. The hiking trails were pretty limited and the "park" seemed to just be random paths along a decently busy highway.

Missouri Headwaters park has picnic tables with awesome views of the river and surrounding mountains. It's a great place to stop for a picnic lunch and then climb around the rocks behind the pit toilets. I free climbed up the rock face and through the rock window...it makes awesome selfies!

6-8 Oct 2023. Nice campground near the Madison River. A short walk (about 1/2 mile) takes you to the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison rivers, the official beginning of the Missouri River. Short walking trails lead away from the campground. Historic Three Forks is just a few miles away. Campground is well maintained even in the off-season. We found the bees a bit of a nuisance, but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay.

The most disgusting place I have ever stayed. The outhouse hadn't been cleaned in quite awhile. Feces on the floor and the river of urine. The camp host looks as if he just quit rehab and will not talk to you to even let you know that there is no camping year round. They will just issue you a ticket. The history was awesome. The river absolutely beautiful. Avoid the campground at all costs. For the safety of you and yours don't do it.

Excellent place to stop while driving up or down I-90. Great place to stretch legs and see some history. It's really a gem of an experience knowing you are standing at the confluence of the biggest river in the USA and all of the history that goes with it.
The pay station was unattended. There is an outhouse bathroom by the pay station. Recommend walking the mowed trail that goes by the old hotel. . Kids enjoyed the park. We stayed about one hour total.

Nice place to sit and watch the river flow by. Never too crowwded. A pleasant place there are sites that you can have birthday parties or just watch the wildlife. A good place for birders and fishing. Just watch out for the moose. They can be pretty intimidating especially during the rut. A great place if you like to watch the ice flows

We were brought here by our local friends, and totally surprised by this beautiful park. As the “Head” of the longest river in the US, this park definitely left a clear and long lasting memory for my self, and gave me a good story to tell about the great state of Montana!

I didn't go on any hikes but that is an option. Park has a state fee which you put in the envelope upon entering. Drove to the confluence of the Missouri. Pretty neat.

It was like going back in time, especially when the beavers were right at the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison Rivers. It was an added blessing to learn that this was discovered by the Lewis and Clark Core of Discovery and that it was also Sacajawea's childhood home. I was also thankful that the advent of silk, and a change in styles, saved the beaver from extinction. Here begins a river of frontier history and culture.
Incredible couple volunteering tonight. Just trying evenings 2 nights a week and hoping people will stop. We were walking by and noticed the open sign. Very knowledgeable! You need to take time to go. I especially loved the upstairs that had little shops set up like stepping back in time.

Congratulations to these folks. 5 minutes off of Int. 90. We only went here by accident as we were driving out of this wonderful town at the headwaters of the Missouri.
DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE.
It is an amazing collection of the picture of life in a Montana ranch town. Different rooms with different themes---STUFFED into an old bank building--with collections (over 700 types of labeled barbed wire!!!) . Country school memorabilia. WOW. Just WOW. Spend at least an hour.

Food and service was great! We got here about 4:30 p.m. before dinner rush and got seated right away. Morgan was our waitress, and she regularly checked on us for drinks and if we needed anything else. When the meals arrived, the portion sizes here were huge. A 6 inch tall pile of fries and chips as a side with our burgers/chicken strips. My little sister begged me to split with her a fried cheesecake with huckleberry sauce, so we went ahead with it to find ourselves a new favorite dessert! We will be sure to stop here again in the future.

We decided to pop into this little bar on one of our Sunday rides. We were not disappointed! They have a cool rustic Montana vibe and is very spacious inside. There is bar seating as well as plenty of high and low top tables. It wasn't dark or dreary like some bars.
We were just looking to get a snack and cocktails, so we ordered the fried pickles and the prairie bites (fried ravioli stuffed with chicken and an Italian herb cheese sauce). Both were absolutely fantastic!! The breading on the fried pickles was crispy and you could see and taste dill and spices. Be warned, they come out piping hot, and the pickle spears take some time to cool from nuclear hot to safely edible.😁 The prairie bites were perfectly golden on the outside, super creamy and flavor packed on the inside. Also served piping hot but cooled faster than the pickles. I had a Caesar and Hubby had a Long Island Iced Tea. Both drinks were made to perfection.
The bar tenders and staff were super nice and the service was fast and attentive. We even got a peek at the kitchen which was spotless! Very impressive!!!
I even purchased a cool Big Bull hat to add to my collection.
We will definitely stop by again the next time we find ourselves in that area. We'd love to try their burgers.
2 appetizers, 2 double shot cocktails $50 (not including tip)

Great service - very attentive. Burgers and fries as far as portions are amazing. In other words, a big juicy burger and TON of fries. We came when it was really busy and were waiting for my kid to show up. Everyone was very accommodating and kept checking on us. Great all around experience!

So, it’s actually been a year to the day since we ate here, but I was reminded of it today by the social media machine. What I remember, and what is worth coming here to post, is that it was the best bison burger my wife and I had ever had. So, if you are weighing whether you should eat here or not, there you go. Enjoy the bison burger.

The service at the Big Bull was second to none on our recent visit. We both ordered the chicken breast salad and it was delicious! Even though this is more of a bar and grill setting, their customer service model is one that many other local restaurants could benefit from by following.

This review is LONG overdue but I was just thinking of the stellar experience my family and I had at this place. It was about 1.5 years ago that we were driving through MT. My young daughter really needed to go to the bathroom, so we stopped at this place figuring that we'd just have some fries and leave so she could go to the bathroom.
Long story short we ended up having a huge lunch and having what was truly one of the best restaurant experiences of my life. The two women there were so friendly and attentive, they were extremely kind to my two young children who were hyper from a long car ride.
We had some DELICIOUS food. My husband had a burger, and I had the Walleye fish and chips (I'm from the PNW so I eat a lot of fresh cod fish and Chips. It was fun and interesting to experience how different walleye is from saltwater fish I'm used to.) We also had the prairie bites which were a brand new experience for me! They were well cooked and seasoned. We will fondly remember this place for years to come and if we ever find ourselves nearby again we will absolutely make a stop. My husband bought a hoodie that he wears frequently, so we are often telling people about how great this place is!

Definitely a good place to stop and get a meal but it was just a little pricey. It's a sign of the times though. It is disappointing that they only take cash but do have an ATM to get it. It's kind of crazy in this world to see it but good on them for figuring out the system... The staff was very friendly and helpful. The wings were definitely a little soggy and made me think they were microwaved and dunked in sauce. Chicken tenders were overcooked but the portion of fries was definitely generous.

Big Bull is great if you are looking for a total gut bomb or a heart attack on a plate. I say that with total love! They give you HUGE portions of home cut fries and chips. The burgers are local beef or bison and are always fresh! Add in a great selection of beers on tap and you are set for the evening! Grab your date and head over after a day of enjoying beautiful Montana. The staff is always friendly. Just remember to bring cash.

Food and drinks are always great! However last two times service has been terrible. It's typically not busy as well, I understand if they are slammed. But standing behind the bar gossiping while we all have empty drinks is ridiculous. Check in with your customers occasionally.

Well worth the visit and entry fee. Lovely winding pathways through shade trees and sunny areas. The rose garden is amazing! Lots of little nooks to sit and relax or read a book. Picnic area with gazebo and grass. Kids garden play area too! Make sure to visit the nursery across the street and both gifts stores. A must see is the test gardens on the nursery side as well. They also have a few little cabins you can rent by the night. Charming gardens and a stream running through the arboretum. We will visit again when we are in Helena!

While staying in Boulder, I went up to see Tizer Gardens in late June. Several paths and footbridges over Prickly Pear Creek wind through trees and garden plots with cute sheds and sitting spots. The unique fairy tale theme, variety of trees and flowers, and mountain valley setting were not enough to offset the weedy garden plots and lack of maintenance throughout the park. There is a gift shop, portable restrooms, and a commercial nursery as well.

Wonderful gardens and caretakers to match. Very peaceful & full of love. They provide nice grounds for their local fairies 🧚♂️ It was a pleasure to meet Belva, the owner, and talk plants. My brother volunteered to tell a gardener to not turn on the sprinklers but got the response "better to get a tongue lashing now than a as whipping later" because he was watering his girlfriends favorite garden and he promised to water it every day. What an amazing little place! This is by far the most creative, cute, quaint, and interesting botanical garden I have ever visited. There are tons of little paths and switchbacks that you might miss if you aren’t looking, and an eclectic mix of art and curios peppered around the gardens. Every time you walk by a spot, you’ll notice a little detail that you missed the first time. It really is a lot of fun. Highly recommend!

This was an unexpected find. My wife loves gardens so, as we travel, we’re always on the hunt. We drove away from Helena about a half hour, then turned off the highway and ended up on a dirt road…. “what are we getting ourselves into”? But even though the entrance looked modest, once we got past the office/shop/store, the place really opened up. The nice lady gave us a great overview of the place, a map with numbers to go by and off we went. Two hours later, we got done! So many hidden curves to explore. And many, many hidden areas with chairs, or a bench, where you can just sit and enjoy the serenity of the gardens. This aspect is so unlike most gardens we’ve gone to. This is really more of an interactive experience. A creek flows right through the gardens, adding to its charm and makes the flowers have sound too. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and takes a lot of time to answer questions. Really worth the entrance fee.

This is one of the most amazing botanical gardens I've visited. I've been to some major botanical gardens at large cities who have multi million dollar budgets and Tizer is nothing like them. It's only 4.5 acres but it's rustic, Rocky Mountain amazing everywhere you turn. There is an amazing amount of wonder in a relatively small space. You have to wander every path and sit in a few different places to really appreciate the beauty. I recommend bringing a book or magazine, grab a lemonade at the gift shop and sit in one of the chairs with your feet in the creek. This is a must see while in the Helena area.

Wow. What a disappointment this place was. When you call yourself a botanical garden your raise the expectations very high. This is definitely NOT what I expected. It is a small private garden that was probably good once but has been totally let go. It’s now fully of bare patches, weeds, neglected areas, cheap ornaments and garden furniture that needs returning to the thrift shop it came from. They should be asking for a gold coin donation not $9 per adult. Please stop advertising this place as a botanical garden - it doesn’t come close.

If you like to photograph plants, this is the place to be! A wide variety of sculptures, furniture, and knick-knacks add character to the gardens.
Such an awesome experience! Absolutely would go back, kids had a great time, they loved filling the buckets, sifting through the shaker and sorting through to find sapphires at the tables. Bruce is amazing, took the kids up to see the industrial sized equipment. Highly recommend and be sure to reserve ahead of time!

The guy Eric that helped us was really nice and gave us lots of information. He explained everything we needed to do and checked in with us frequently. The experience was fun for the kids even on a super hot day. We were there for about 3 hours. Glad we had ice water. Found some good stones too!

Great place. We really appreciated how helpful our guide Matt was. He took the time to inspire our budding geologist and really invested in sharing his experience and knowledge with the kids. We came on a cloudy day which made the entire classification process much more pleasant. Bring water and snacks. Plan to make an afternoon out of the experience.
(This review is written on behalf of my 11-year old son) Finding sapphires and garnet was the best part of our trip to Montana. Matt was very helpful and I hope to come back here one day. In total our group came home with 40 sapphires and a few garnets. We also found some pyrite, fossils, and lots of magnetite. If I could give them a 100 star review, I would.

We had a great time with Bruce, Bob, and Nina! We were shown the ropes for mining with good instruction and patience. Bruce was particularly interactive and we enjoyed listening to his stories and advice. Out family of five had a nice time and came out with some significant stones! Our kids were 10, 13, & 16 for this. A younger boy (6?) with another family needed a hand keeping entertained. My 16 year old enjoyed the final hunt more than the dusty work required to get there.

The guys were super nice, down to Earth and informative. I loved every second of it. They showed me around their operation and we're very helpful. I had troubles making a reservation due to my works hours but they were determined and flexible enough to ensure I made my reservation.
Great family experience. Bring water, lots of water, and a big hat. Also be sure to fill up your car before you go. Not required, just bad planning on my part.

I visited in May, and weather was questionable. Bruce let us come to the mine anyways, and the rain miraculously stayed away. Eric guided us, and let me and my dad stay for about 6 hours digging and sifting and sorting. I went home with several facet grade sapphires, and had them cut. As a geology student, this was a memory that will truly stick with me forever. They were the exact experience I wanted.

We had a great experience at the Montana Blue Jewel Mine. Matt was great with our 5 and 8 year old kiddos; especially answering all the questions fired at him! I highly recommend this experience for all ages!

The best sapphire mining experience in Montana. Sometimes you get lucky and find a clean 8+ carat sapphire, sometimes some that are smaller. You screen the gravel from a pile of dirt which is the same material the mine runs. Your chance of finding a nice gem or two is the same as for the mine owners. I've been here 5 or 6 days of "mining" and always go home with something I can cut. You will also likely find a few garnets. Also note not all of the Blue Jewels sapphires are blue. You will also find pink, yellow, clear and kind of a pale green. They are all pretty!

Black Sandy State Park is a lakeside park that offers various amenities and facilities. It provides beautiful areas for tent camping, well-maintained RV pads, boat slips at an affordable price of $6 per night, and a picturesque shoreline with trees and black sandy beaches. The park also features fishing opportunities, a check-in station that sells ice and incidentals, and a helpful camp host available even after hours.
The cabin pics are from Grey Sandy, one block away. Wonderful long weekend spent on site 2 and 3 at Black Sandy. Kids loved fishing, kayaking, and swimming. Fire pits are oddly placed. Even without full RV hookups, this place is a dream!

The camp spots are tight and close. Hopefully you have a good neighbor. There is a small store. The boat ramp and dock are excellent. One of the best in the Helena area. However parking is sorely lacking. Its the only reason I didn't give it a 5 out of 5.

A nice spot to spend the day swimming or boating. Has a decent amount for parking and separate space for boat trailers. The camping spaces have room for campers. You can access the waste stations for your camper going to or from the park. The road to the park does turn to gravel when getting off Lincoln road. It is well maintained and plenty wide for two vehicles.

Our family stayed here a while ago, in our trailer. It was our maiden voyage, and we needed to figure out how the trailer was, and what we might need for longer trips, etc..
First off Black Sandy is a great location, we had a spot literally right on the water in front of the ropes swimming area, and my girls had a blast swimming and enjoying themselves. We had a campfire and roasted marshmallows and enjoyed our time.
We had power for our trailer, but I took one star off because there was no water or dump station. The main thing we figured out on this trip was that with two adults and three children, Water is a 100% must. We actually ran out of water in the evening late, and since we only lived a mile away, we drove home. Now we only go where there is full service of electricity, water, and a dump station.
For anyone else, though, that doesn’t have so many people, this is an ideal place to take a small vacation and we recommend it highly if you don’t need a water connection.

The Original Governor's Mansion, located at 304 North Ewing Street in Helena, Montana, is a well-preserved Queen Anne-style mansion with a rich history. Built in 1888 as a private residence, it became the property of the State of Montana in 1913 and served as the official residence for nine governors and their families until 1959. Today, it is operated by the Montana Historical Society and open for guided tours from May to September.
Enjoyed a thorough look at the historic original governor’s mansion in September 2023. Our gentleman docent (not sure if that is an accurate job title), was very knowledgeable and eagerly shared the history of the mansion with us. We were the last tour of the day on a Wednesday. The tour before was running late and he stepped out the front door to tell us. He began our tour with a couple from the previous group and led us to the carriage house, something that isn’t included with every tour.
The detail in both the carriage house, and the home was beautiful. The home had belong to a private citizen and build it, and then one other family before the governor moved in as he was the first governor, not from Helena.
Highly recommend taking this tour and learning all about this beautiful home. There is a box for donations, should you like to contribute to the upkeep of this home. We did.

Wonderful experience. Anthony knew his stuff. Wonderful tour, great attention to detail. My mother, sister and I really enjoyed the horse stall/feeding area. The rooms were decorated with era furniture and items. This is very much worth your time. Thank you Anthony for such a wonderful tour.

I took my Mother in Law (who is from CA) and my 5yo daughter on a tour of the mansion. We all loved it! The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, the house is beautifully restored by the Historical Society, and they even had a fun scavenger hunt activity that kept my daughter engaged the whole time. They have a box for donations, but at the time we visited (August 2022) the tour was free. There are a lot of stairs, some of which are pretty steep, but as long as that isn't an issue for you, I would recommend this to anyone of any age.

Great experience to hear about Victorian living and Helena history. Anthony was an amazing well of knowledge and took every minute of the hour to walk us through the entire estate!

Thank you historical society for saving this home!
Anthony, our guide was so knowledgeable, and pleasant . The scavenger hunt for paper dolls kept kiddos entertained. So fun.

Anthony was our tour guide for our little rural school. He was patient and kind and kept the kids engaged in history. If you have a chance to stop and see this historical masterpiece, you won't regret it!!

We were given a guided tour that was thorough and informative. The interior finishes and furniture were fabulous, exquisite wood carving abundant throughout the main floor.
The Cathedral of Saint Helena is a gorgeous Catholic church built in 1914, with impressive twin spires that draw inspiration from Vienna's Votive Church. The stunning architecture is well-maintained, and the steeples tower into the sky while bells clang overhead. Visitors can't help but feel awed by the grandeur of God's glory within its walls. Even young children are enchanted by running around and exploring this amazing space.
Look I was not expecting to have a spiritual experience today. I came to town to visit the place that my family came from. But I didn't really have any idea what I was going to do when I got here. I saw this cathedral from a ways away and decided to check it out. As I got out of the car the bells in the tower began to chime. I claimed the steps hesitantly not wanting to interrupt anyone praying, but the room was empty. I stood in awe of the sight of this place. It took my words. My daughter had questions which I did my best to answer and when it came to the lit prayer candles. She wanted to do one. So together we lit one for our family which is no longer with us. And... It just hit me really deep. This place is a whole different thing, and it's beautiful

This is a beautiful cathedral outside and in. The detail of the church and stained class windows which tell a story are amazing. It reminds me of the beautiful churches in Europe. I sat there awe struck as I looked around and marveled at the Catholic tradition decorating this beautiful cathedral.

Absolutely stunning gem of a church as beautiful as any European ones I've visited. Breathtaking just being inside, you can't help but to look up in awe and feel small amid the glory of God.
Even our 17 month old seemed pretty impressed! We've *actually* never seen her have so much fun inside a building like that, she was so happy running around and giggling and looking around super excited, it must have seemed like a big fun house to her LOL we couldn't help but let her have fun while trying our best to maintain a respectful level of reverance 😆

As we drove up just to view from outside with the fall colors, the Bells were tolling. It was just magical. Sooo beautiful! I can't wait to see inside.

Beautiful! A true monument of faith to Helena’s riches of the past. I was fortunate enough to attend a 7am mass. Entered the church in outside darkness and as the service proceeded, the sunrise illuminated the stain glassed windows.
K LOBERT — Google review
Incredibly beautiful, architecture old and very well maintained, easy to find as the steeples were almost to the sky, the bells were chiming as we walked up the stairs.

I didn't expect to be so impressed! This has the feel of an Old World cathedral! There was music piped in that because of the speaker placement and the acoustics of the cathedral itself, made it sound like you were overhearing a rehearsal.

The stained glass is insane but upon entering the air was super thick and felt heavy. Off vibes in this place. Creeped my son out, not sure why but just a different feeling while walking inside it.. still breathtaking stained glass though

Super friendly staff and cool vibes. Grab some popcorn by the entrance and grab your favorite drink. An underrated drink is the nonalcoholic guava sparkling water. It’s made in house and good!
There is an upstairs and an outdoor porch which has a cool view for people watching.
This place has great beers which can be in pints, growlers and kegs.

I appreciated the several NA beers including a radler from Athletic I hadn't had before!! I was impressed with super friendly and attentive staff, pretty views from the upstairs patio and that we could bring pizza over from next door.

Great space with plenty of seating indoor/outdoors/upstairs/downstairs with a lot of beers on tap along with a popcorn machine. There is no food but there is a pizza joint next door and you can bring in your own or other restaurants. It’s a tap room with a good space, plenty of choices and good service.

Wish we had more time to stay longer and try a sample of all their beers.

Also has seating right out front on the street.
Friendly staff.

A popular space to get some beer on tap. The service is pretty quick and you have two floors to drink on with outdoor patio and outside on the side. I got the Mexican Lager as I wanted something light before we continue our exploration.

Cozy microbrewery with friendly staff! Split level with an upstairs area that is usually jamming.
Excellent variety of brews in tap. The extreme stout was tasty with strong notes of chocolate and coffee. Prices were very reasonable and service was prompt.

Super cool place to grab a beer! We stopped to try their berry gose and it was incredible. I can't wait to come back and try their other beers! The view sitting on top of the balcony is awesome as well

Enjoyed my time at the tap room and then took a growler home to Cali w me. It stayed nice and fresh. One of the best beers I've had. I wish I could get more, but it's a bit of a drive. Wish the lady behind the bar was more encouraging about how it would last on a road trip. I would have bought a lot more!!! Highly recommend you drop in!
The Great Northern Carousel is an amusement center in Montana that features a beautiful carousel with 37 hand-carved animals suitable for kids of all ages. In addition to the carousel, visitors can enjoy outdoor musical instruments and watch dog training sessions in the grass area. The indoor setting allows for year-round enjoyment, particularly during cold weather conditions. It's a great place to have fun with family and friends while experiencing unique and entertaining activities.
A magical experience, I felt like a kid again.
They also have a game to play. Get the little rings and toss them in to the box as the carousel 🎠 goes around to win a free ride.

Lots of fun for kids of all ages. Very friendly staff, and reasonable pricing makes for an enjoyable experience for parents as well. A "must-stop" for any families looking to experience Helena at its fullest.

I witnessed a male employee yelling at a female employee and the poor girl started crying. Very unpleasant experience. I will no longer take my kids here especially with this male employee still working there. Such a shame as I love the rest of the workers and the carousel.

Absolutely stunning carousel and amazing staff. Their friendliness made this outing so special for our grandchildren. They made the day one to remember.

We got there at noon kids super excited. There were 2 bday parties going. The counter person told us they weren't turning on the carousel until 230. No biggie science center next door. We came back at 215. Sign on the door they were closed. My daughter devastated. Thanks for nothing.

This is a nice little spot to stop by to enjoy some down time while in Helena. Eat some ice cream and let the kids enjoy a ride on the carousel. Have picky kids? Don't worry! They have so many beautiful animals and creatures for them to choose from!

Very cute place for kids. Loved the look inside and how well kept it was. Very clean and the carousel ride was great! Kids loved picking what to sit on which varies from animals to dinosaurs to saucer cups etc. There is a game if you sit on the ends of grabbing a ring from a dispensary while the ride is in motion and throwing it at a clown's net (try to get it in) on the other side, was fun.
The ice cream was really yummy! And they had a small gift shop with t-shirts and stuffed toys.
Ride was $2 per ride. If parents are just monitoring their child it was free for them
We were told if we stayed, the last ride of the day is free, which was around 5:50 pm. But we were busy eating ice cream 😋

Carousel ride - great & fun for the kids.
Food & icecream - icecream is good, but the prices are ridiculously OVERPRICED! A small container of nachos for almost 5$.. way overpriced and nothing fancy about them - not worth 5$ at all. Don't waste your money on the food.

Yes yes yes! Friendly, beautiful, unique and fun! This carousel is a homerun for the whole family. The staff was super nice and the ice cream nachos were delicious! I loved the beautiful glass and art.

So fun! Even to ride the carousel as an adult and get scoop icecream. There was an outdoor large musical instruments to keep kids busy. While I was there, a dog training business was having a session in the grass area. So fun to watch all the different breeds of doggies running around while we had our icecream.

Didn't eat here but took a carousel ride which was fun. It's cool that they have carved animals that are native to Montana as well as traditional horses. Worth the $2 each to ride it. Clean and well maintained.
