The view at Lone Pine lookout is breathtaking! The visitor center is very much worth the stop.

Gorgeous little hike that overlooks the city. It was raining when we went and it was still an amazing morning walk, but I'm sure it would be even better at sunrise or sunset especially on a clear day.

Went up on an entertaining hike with the Bissell 5th and 6th grade field trip to the Lone Pine Park. It started with a fun and educational session for the kids with Ranger Kay, at the visitors center. Then a great venture out on nice open hiking paths, while enjoying the wildlife and other hikers as well.

Super cool views of the Valley. Easy day hikes and Foyes Lake is sweet too!

Peaceful park with stunning views. Also, the visitor center is awesome with educational materials and also the coolest stuffed animals for your kids or for anyone!!

Nice visitor center. Walking trials and over look that is handicap accessible. My husband saw a prairie rattle snake on the trail to the cliff so keep your eyes open.

Nice views over the valley. Trails are in good condition. Visitor center was closed when we visited, no problem parking, but limited lot.
Curt Hayes — Google review
Nice trails, but steep! Beautiful views and a very informative, hands-on Visitors Center at the top. Friendly staff.

Nice hike. And an amazing view town

Good place for a short walk with your dogs or just for the good views. Lots of really nice well taken care of pathways. Although some ice removal on some areas is definitely needed in winter. Last time I went (about a week ago) the ice was an inch or two thick in some spots along the main trails. But overall one of the best spots in Kalispell to go and get some sunshine.
Fracturedhourglass — Google review
A great place to go for short or long hikes. Amazing views over the valley. The level of difficulty is very low on most trails, and they are all connected and easy to navigate with clearly marked signs. Will most definitely be returning for more hiking adventures with the kiddos.

We enjoy this park SO MUCH! They offer several kids/adult education classes (most free!) To learn about the outdoors and the wildlife in the park. The visitor facility is always tidy and a great stop to check out for locals and travelers! The only "downfall" was one of the classes we joined in on was a new ranger from out of state was teaching about local vegetation and edible resources you can find in our forests. However- the reason I mention she was not local is I found most questions we had she either Googled or did not know. I don't know how their program training works but she may have felt more confident with training prior to leading the group. Otherwise all the classes we have attended have been wonderful !

Very Close to Kalispell, Easy Access Trails and a Small Education Center.
The access road is easy to navigate. Parking is out front of the Education Center.
Inside is a small but quaint store with local huckleberry foods and cute toys for sale. There is a small education center where you can walk around and see animals and interactive exhibits. There is a classroom where they hold instructional programs.
There is a wonderful nearly panoramic view of Kalispell from the main trail. From here you can continue on down the hill to other walking trails or walk back to your car.

To start with the obvious, the views are pretty awesome no matter the time of day. And secondly, it's a very easy hike considering you can drive to, basically, the top and park. If one chose, you could park at the bottom and hike all the way to the top. This isn't too strenuous of a hike either, but this being Google maps and all, it could get difficult for the hard to move around crowd.
At the top, whether you've chosen to drive or hike up, is a visitor center. It has all the usual, wheelchair parking, restrooms, and other facilities. I do believe it's available for rent, or reservations of some sort, since my mother and brother were wed there. (NO, NOT TO EACH OTHER, C'MON FOLKS!) You'd have to check with them for sure.
I'm any event, it's worth the trip if you find yourself looking for something too do that's close to the Kalispell area, and don't wanna spend any cash. 👍
The Conrad Mansion Museum, built in 1895 and now fully restored, offers guided tours by period-dressed guides. It is a significant part of Kalispell's history and boasts beautiful gardens ideal for picnics or leisurely walks. The mansion's Christmas tour is especially enchanting due to its stunning decorations every year. Inside the house are original pieces from clothing to cookware and electrical appliances.
Fascinating place with original furniture, clothing and toys. The guided tour is very worthwhile.

The place is fantastic. What a beautiful house and the story of Mr Conrad was awesome. To have fought in the war of the states and then made two fortunes. 9 million dollars back in the 1800,s WOW

We took the guided tour. It was amazing. Original everything inside the house, from clothing and jewelry to cookware and electrical appliances. I wish they had offered group rates, we went with a family of 5. It was a bit pricey.

Conrad Mansion is a historic site in Kalispell that is a well maintained museum. While impressive on the outside, it is even more impressive on the inside. It has high-end architectural features, quality wood and had 'modern day conveniences' for it's time. Lots of beautiful woodwork. You get pulled back in time into the life of the Conrad family. It isn't uncommon for there to a cheaper day annually for locals. They also have events around Halloween and Christmas.
Erik Boehm — Google review
The Conrad mansion is a beautiful piece of Kalispell's history and their gardens are great for a picnic or a small stroll. They've redone their gardens recently and they did a beautiful job. I've been on their tours a few times too which are all really interesting. Their Christmas tour is especially magical since the mansion is decorated beautifully evey year. My husband and I actually got married there so you could say we're a little biased!

They have adorable fairy houses set up on Thursdays. Such a beautiful setting for these houses. It was fun to see.

Lovely tour, helpful and knowledgeable staff, and amazing mansion/museum. I’ve done several mansion tours in the west and this house was stunning! I loved the real artifacts and family stories that have been kept alive. I would like to see more info on the ground/architecture though. Thanks!

Wonderful mansion and nice reading about the family's history when walking through it. The mansion is very well taken care of, the caretaker and the rest of the staff do a fantastic job. This is a must see historic site.

This building is a mansion, an architectural master piece with historical significance to the city of Kalispell. Spacious, lovely green grass and well maintained. I couldn't enter because I missed the time of tour of the building. It's affordable and their staff are friendly and courteous. Parking is on the street so try to arrive early.

A must visit!! So much history and amazing artifacts!! This is an excellent place to take the kids to learn more about our local history. They have so many things going on all year long. Check out the spooky tours closer to Halloween👻

Amazing! We did the docent tour. Don't waste your money on the self guided tour. The Docent was so knowledgeable and personable. Don't miss this Kalispell attraction!

Interesting historical home with unusual features. Look for the secret tiny doors built into the wall under the main staircase. Fun story. We took a self-guided tour but overheard the tailend of a guided tour. Guided tour would add to the experience. Check out the Faerie Steps nearby (search GPS) and how they are associated with the Conrad family. Photos are allowed without flash. I don't want to give away all the surprises but will show where to find the secret doors.

Bigfork Summer Playhouse

Rising college-age stars perform in popular Broadway musicals at this summer stock theater.
In full disclosure before I review, my daughter is a cast member. We travelled to see her perform in all four shows. My husband and I kept saying to each other after every show "...no one is going to believe us back home when we tell them how absolutely professional and amazing these shows are". Our family has seen a good bit of theatre over the last 5 years (and paid much more for tickets) and are so incredibly impressed with the quality of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse shows that we just saw. The choreography was top-notch! Vocals absolutely stellar! Transitions were seamless. The live musicians were excellent. Also, I am not sure when/if I have ever seen better acting! Drowsy Chaperone was hysterical...the whole audience was laughing most of the time. Joseph was a delight on many levels. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was simply beautiful. Mama Mia was so great that we were still singing the songs in the car on the way home.
I will most certainly follow the careers of many of these actors to watch for their inevitable successes professionally!

We had a wonderful time watching Elf. They need to have roped lines for waiting in line though or some sort of organization. We went in the door thinking we had to exchange our on line tickets as that's the notification we got but found out we didn't. We were waiting for our daughter to park and join up with us & just stood inside. We saw the lady selling tickets say something so I went over to see what she said, she basically told us the line was in one spot (the lobby was PACKED) so NO ONE coming in knew where the line was, and that we were ALL crowding. Well if that's the case the solution would be to have some direction before it gets to that point in the lobby. It's winter folks no one wants to wait out in the cold. Other than that it was so festive & a great show. I would love to help out if you need.....

This is a wonderful playhouse! The actors are incredible! It's professional level quality! So excited to watch Mamma Mia this year, they did a performance a couple years back & it was hilarious!!! This place is awesome, and I can't watch to watch the plays this summer! Who needs to watch a movie, when you can watch a live performance... standing ovation, & lots of applause for Bigfork Summer Playhouse :)
Dylan Wesson — Google review
I like the feel of the place, it was nice seeing the shows. They need to fire the old lady at the front. $72 over the course of two days, and she was crotchety and angry both times.
Jonny Nuanes — Google review
This is a local Bigfork gem! Summer actors are amazing! The are from all over and extremely talented. Winter brings the Children's Playhouse with the very talented and dedicated local kids! If you get a chance, buy tickets, sit back and enjoy!

Always try to see at least one show during the summer. Last night we went and saw the Addams Family. Such talented people, doing amazing work. Never disappoints!! Nice work and thanks for entertaining us! Peace and love.

A taste of Broadway and West End. Literally. Incredibly fitting to the charming setting that is main street BigFork. I will definitely be visiting this place frequently when we come down
We saw Guys and Dolls. Which isn't my favorite play but the talented cast members made it very enjoyable and entertaining.

I love the heart and soul that goes into keeping live theater alive at the Big Fork play house. Its an amazing jewel that should be attended often!
Andrea Hayden — Google review
They put on great productions! Reasonably priced tickets, great quality, and I enjoy how roomy the house is--it's easy to get past people in the same row without feeling like you're about to fall in someone's lap! Plenty of stalls in the women's bathroom (ladies, you know how it is!) and the lobby of the theatre has some really cool artwork in it.
Big Arm, located within the Flathead Lake State Park, offers visitors a vast recreational area to enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, hiking and camping. The park features three affordable yurts that guests can stay in along with tent pads for additional guests. While staying at one of the yurts or campsites along the lake's shore, visitors can appreciate the beautiful scenery and make use of amenities like fire rings and picnic tables.
Beautiful!! Breathe taking views. No electricity but they have fresh water spouts, clean bathrooms, clean showers, firewood and ice. Many spots are shaded with perfect cover while some are more open! Camp hosts are so nice and knowledgeable about the area and the park! I will come here again anyway, thumbs up!!!

Clean and easy to access. Boat launch and dock made getting in and out to the lake easy. Camp site was right on the water. Beautiful place to see and play.

Tent camped here and absolutely loved the site - right on the lake, close to the bathroom but still private. Fire ring and picnic table. Great opening in the trees to sit right by the lake.

I camped here for the night and had a great time. Dog friendly. Just make sure to leash them or you will be told too. I had a lead for my dog and a leash. The camp host I spoke to first was super nice. Then the other camp host came by to introduce herself and her husband. They both just wanted to make sure I was getting settled in. It’s hard to find this with people. At least for me it is and I would definitely come back. Beautiful spot.

I stayed in one of the 3 yurts they have. It was very clean. I would suggest bringing another heater during the cooler nights. They also include a tent pad next to the yurt for guest. The Yurts are $50 to $60 per night plus a $10 reservation fee. This is a great deal to stay withing walking distance to Flathead lake.

So beautiful. Really enjoyed exploring the trails.

No hookups or dumpsite. Water is available but not at every site. Restrooms and showers available. Every campsite has a picnic table and firepit. Very clean and quiet. Highly recommend reserving a spot online as they fill up fast.

Loved this park. It offered quiet views of the lake and an easy place to launch boats. We stayed in a Yurt here and cannot recommend it more. If you can book one, you should. Check in was easy and inside the Yurt there was lots of light, fans, heaters and a pole to open the top of the dome. You also can open windows from the outside. Spacious decks are also around the domes for enjoying the view. Bunk beds and tables inside the Yurts too. Dog allowed inside 2/3 of the Yurts. Bathroom facilities were pit and well maintained. We were too late in the season for running water (9/28). Loved the Yurt, loved the park, if you have time you should stay here!

It was a lot fun visiting here! There was so much to see and it felt like we only scratched the surface. Most of the exhibits were very well organized although there were a few that were less cohesive.
Would love to come back again!

Super cool museum. The only thing is that it's not very accessible. Most buildings have stairs and no ramps, and are cramped so people in wheel chairs or with strollers etc can't really view most of the museum. Besides that it's amazing. You can interact with alot of the items in the museum.
Hailey Nicodemous — Google review
After glacier national park and Flathead lake this museum was ranked high on our must see for our Montana trip. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. In one day it's impossible to see the entire museum but we only had a week. Thousands of great old items and wonderful metal art . Spend some time, make a donation. This place should live on forever. The amount of love and work that went into building it and continues to keep it going is astounding. 5 stars, the best. Don't miss it.

Very unique museum. If you want to see the whole place you need several hours. We were short on time but really enjoyed seeing everything we could fit in. The owners are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the things in their museum.

During my weekend getaway to Montana this museum was the highlight of my trip. ♥️ The owners were extremely welcoming. There were so many amazing things there. When I go back to MT I’ll have to visit again. My favorite things were being able to sit in the helicopter, the 1912 juke box from Chicago, and the old passenger Indian motorcycle. I love that they have things you can play with and interact with. Absolutely worth a visit!

Not everyone visit this place when traveling to Montana, but i must say this is a DO NOT MISS spot. This place is 100 times better than any famous American history museum. Ill be making a few social media videos about this place because i really want everyone to know more about it. It deserves more relevance. Worth every penny and i only regret not having a few more hours to spend here. Definitely an important stop for anyone traveling between Bozeman and Glacier National Park

I was absolutely amazed by the amount of stuff this museum has on display. 40 buildings with everything you can imagine from the past. Definitely a must see and inexpensive to get in. I added 50 pictures. I took about 200.

This is by far the best museum I have ever visited, and I've been to a lot. Its not as polished as some, but it has its own flavor and you can't beat how interractive you can be with it. There is something for everyone, and the sheer diversity of what you can find is staggering. You can stay there for hours and you'll still only really get a rudimentary vibe for everything. I spent way too much time dinking around in the little UFO play area. Do not miss all the interractive gizmos there. I loved it. 10 bucks for an adult made me feel like a highway robber by the time I'd left
Vectra 407 — Google review
This is a truly interesting place. It's going to be a bit difficult to describe.
The scope of this museum's exhibits is truly extensive. There are exhibits and artifacts covering nearly every aspect of the history of how people lived and worked covering the early 19th century to the mid 20th century.
Out back, --- okay this is a very specific reference --- but it's almost like Valkenvania from the (bad) film Nothing But Trouble, but in a good way. There are a huge number of mechanical artifacts, some restored, some in their natural condition, some turned into welded found-object art and sculptures.
Some of the exhibits and artifacts are interactive, and these are clearly marked with signage, and I'm sure kids will love this. Even as an adult I enjoyed sitting in the Huey helicopter, putting my hands on the controls and looking around trying to make sense of the panels.
Many of the exhibits and recreations are finely curated, however there is also a large portion of the collection which is more "raw" -- personally I enjoy that. Overall the museum is on the lighter side with regard to the "interpretive" aspect of curation - to me, at least, in many ways this is more interesting than every single thing being labeled and explained - but one should enter not expecting signage on each and every thing as if it were the Smithsonian.
Got a chance to briefly chat with the founder while I was there, and he is a friendly and fascinating guy, and offered some suggestions of other museums we should see while on our trip!
Overall, this place is a can't-miss. I doubt you'll find anything else like it in the nation, and am positive there is something for literally everyone here.

Fantastic place to visit and see all the historical machines that built this great country. Absolutely amazing place you can’t see it all in one day so we will be back
Brian Clyde — Google review
This has been the best museum I've ever been to. We just spent 4 and a 1/2 hours exploring and were so excited to be there. Alot of American history and interactive, we got to sit in alot of vehicles and ring bells and all sorts! I can't recommend this enough, this would have to be at the top of my favourite days we've had in America & Canada (in 8 months) and we nearly drive straight past it and missed it. So much stuff but it's all so cool and interesting and so many different exhibitions. Some of my favourites were the old car sheds, the diner, the fur shed, the army vehicles. There's so much to see and for all of $10usd ea. The owners were greeting people and were genuinely interested in us. Thank you for creating this place, it looks like a lot of handwork, effort, time and money has gone into this Museum!

We have driven past the museum so many times, but never when it was open! Today it was! My husband (a history buff) was so excited and loved sharing and showing our son all the different memorabilia. Now, touring the inside of the building with a 3 year old....not a good time, but once we got outside...it was a new world! Both my kids loved it, my husband loved it and he is already planning to go back without the kids! Lol

This place has so many awesome items, huge and small. There were so many items inside, then outside was its own world. My husband is from Polson and loved the local stuff but the rest spoke to me. This place is amazing AND pet friendly!
Denise Donovan — Google review
Visited here with my wife, her brother, his wife and their teenage son. This is definitely an eclectic, roadside museum. It is WAY larger than it looks, with a ton of small buildings behind the large road facing building and each one packed floor-to-ceiling with all sorts of things historic, military or antique. There are a lot of motorcycles, guns, military vehicles and aircraft. There are also a lot of antique household items. My brother-in-law and his son especially enjoyed the large building of blacksmith materials. There were some interesting items to me (like the helicopters, some gigantic rifles, and -strangely- the old dilapidated carnival ride), but I got overwhelmed pretty quickly with how much there was to see. Honestly, a lot of times I wondered why something was displayed. The largest buffalo killed in Montana made sense, tons of spark plugs not as much. It was relatively pleasant though, but would benefit from some heavy handed selective curating. I wouldn't recommend this for small children, as there is not a lot to catch their interest that they can interact with safely. Half our group really liked it. The museum, as you might guess by the name, has a strong patriotic, constitutional theme. The overall repeated message is that freedom must be paired with responsibility.

This place is amazing. What I post is a miniscule amount of what this place has. Definitely worth a full day. They also demo much of the equipment. Great people working there.

Surprisingly large museum. I have been there many times and I always find new things. Every inch has some hidden or not so hidden historical treasure.
I helped for a handful of years in the blacksmith shop for the living history days. That's always a good time.
Brandon Steele — Google review
Hands down my favorite museum outside of the Wright Patterson. Obviously comparing the two is out of the question, but the fact remains; this is my second favorite of all time. The admission price is a bargain as well. I found myself throwing money in the donation bins out of sheer thankfulness of keeping so many awesome things from becoming scrap.
The Miracle Of America has more rare items outside in the dirt than some museums have on display. Although many displays are crude, or hastily put together, do not mistake that for second class. The sheer number of items simply could not be properly displayed. While the displays could have been condensed and the mishmash avoided, that would have meant never seeing some of the neatest artifacts of our history. These "extras" are normally locked away in storage. However, that misses the point. I WANT to see 2-3 versions of the same piece, in different states of use and abuse out in the open. I do NOT want to only see single, perfectly restored, versions behind glass and under blinding lights. The rawness shows the real history of the items. That smell, some may find as unappealing, is just another sensory input to bring me back to the time periods where these items were born. Each fleck of paint missing a story unto itself.
Anyone that is enthusiastic about anything mechanical, as I am, you will have the time of your life finding all the seemingly forgotten treasures in every exhibit. I, more than a dozen times, found myself gasping at the sight of something so rare I had only ever read about it. Eagle eyes will be rewarded with many one-of-a-kind treasures. Give yourself several hours to take a fraction of all of it in.
We did the 5 hour trail ride. They take great care of their mules/horses. Our guide was great and even made us lunch. I would definitely do this again!

My son and I took the half day Glacier Overlook ride with Swan Mountain Outfitters through the beautiful National Forest near Glacier National Park from their East West Glacier location. Caity was our guide and she made the ride very memorable and was always willing to stop the ride to make saddle and stirrup adjustments for the less experienced riders like my son and me. It just so happened that we were the only riders booked for our time slot, so we basically had a private trip. The ride took us up to a cliff edge that provided a beautiful view of Glacier National Park and the surrounding areas. Caity was very knowledgeable about the area, including the foliage and names/backgrounds of the various mountains. We were able to sit out on the cliff and soak in the beautiful nature around us. She even picked some huckleberries for us to sample. The ride was at a comfortable pace and included some inclines and declines adding just the right amount of difficulty for inexperienced riders like us! In talking with our guide, we learned how Swan Mountain Outfitters looks after their horses ensuring they are in good physical condition while not being overworked. While I didn’t have the opportunity to go horseback riding with another outfit, I believe I made a great choice and would definitely book another trip, possibly an all day ride ending with a cowboy cookout !

The worst customer service experience! My friend was visiting from out of state for a week, and I wanted to show her all that Montana has to offer! So, our schedule was pretty tight. When booking our horseback ride, we knew we would not have time that day to take advantage of going to Glacier Park so were going to schedule our horseback riding outside the park. However, the time we wanted was not available outside the park, but the lady taking our reservation assured us that since we would be horseback riding in the park, we would not have to pay entrance into the park. However, when arriving to the park we had to pay a $35.00 vehicle entrance fee. Additionally, when making our reservation we asked for direction to the corral and the lady ensured us it was very easy to find. We were to enter West Glacier Park and within 2 miles of the entrance we would see the corral on the left. This was not the case! You must turn left down a road to locate the corrals. Since we were looking for a corral not a road we were late arriving and could not call to let them know or ask for better direction as there was no cell service. Once getting to the corral I was able to get cell service and saw I had a voicemail from the corral stating since we were late, they were leaving without us! We ran up to the corral only to find out that no one had left. The horse were not even present! They were still waiting for the horses to return from the scheduled ride before us.! So therefore, the voicemail stating they were going to leave without us unwarranted. Since the horses were not even present everyone had to wait 2 hours after their scheduled ride time before being able to get on a horse!! Like I mentioned previously we had a pretty tight schedule so this 2 hour wait ensured that we were unable to make it to our next scheduled activity. When I called to explain my experience, the company was unapologetic and just kept making excuses like “well they were probably late because it was raining!!” and there was not a cloud in the sky that day!! I do not recommend this outfitter unless you are willing to experience terrible customer service and a very hectic and chaotic experience during what is supposed to be your vacation.

Do not book a elk hunt with this company!
My wife booked a archery elk hunt and we are avid white tail hunter and claim to know absolutely nothing about elk hunting, that being said there are a few thing that are quite common is animal movement, be in the woods before sun rise and don’t come out till after dark we returned every day with hours of sunlight left to hunt one day they where headed down the mountain back to camp at 3 in the afternoon. Let me back up for one sec. My wife also paid a extra 1500 for a one on one guide in witch 2 of the days there we didn’t have a guide at all! When we said something to him he did some speaking with his guides and agreed to give us back 750 to which we have not seen! Look there’s just way to much to write there was 0 preseason scouting done regardless of what snippy little comments he come back here with. The guides though they where super nice guys to have a beer with do not take your hunt or your money seriously felt like a camping trip not a elk hunt I’m just trying to help the next archer don’t do it! There are solid outfitters in the area when your at the airport or in town just ask a few ppl about them it’ll be clear! Now I will say the cook and the food where really good and the scenery was awesome but we didn’t go there for any of those thing if your there to hunt forget about it save your money you would be way way better off doing it your self! I promise!!

We were supposed to take the 2 hour trail ride but I'm not sure that's what it actually was. I was so focused on the well being of the horse I barely noticed scenery. My horse almost fell 3 times due to the steep and rocky "trail". Overall, I just felt bad for the horses the entire ride. I do not recommend.

We had a beautiful 2 hr trial ride leaving from Many Glacier. Our guide, Meredith, was delightful. You could tell that she really wanted us to have a great, safe experience. You could feel her passion for Glacier, the horses and her customers. Thanks for an awesome experience!

Met up at base camp at around 3000’. Rode 12 miles in about 5 hours into the Swan Valley to the upper camp around 5400’.
Upper camp was a beautiful camp nestled amongst the tall pines with the lion creek running through camp. Our source of water for the week coming from the melting snow still covering the swan mountain range. Camp was made up of 6 wall tents and a camp dining tent. Our tent had two cots which would be our home for the week. The food far exceeded my expectations. Kris was the camp cook and she was fantastic. We had restaurant quality breakfasts and dinners every day. And her packed lunches were just as good on our rides.
We took two rides. One up through the lion creek pass into Bob Marshall. That ride was about two miles and took us to 7000’. After crossing the pass we found two beautiful mountain lakes. Swimming in the lakes was a great experience. So clear and cool. From this point we looked out across a vast wilderness.
The second ride took us up towards the peak of swan mountain. Couldn’t make the peak. Rode to about 7500’ in only 1 1/2 miles. Very steep up and back. Becky and I hiked another 500’ in elevation to get to some snow. Where we made snowman in august. The wildflowers up there where everywhere. Thousands of them. Despite being in the most populated area of the lower 48 for both brown and black bears we didn’t see any. We did see a few elk and had mullies come into camp one morning. Our guides were incredible. Matt and Kyle. So knowledgeable and provided us with a great experience. The pictures and videos just don’t do this trip justice. And the horses were so incredible. We rode trials that barely had enough room for all four of their feet. And the way they ascended and descended those trails was amazing. Some so step we had to lead them down. The stars went on forever.
We covered about 30 miles in 4 days and went from 3500’-8000’ and back. Such an appreciation for our horses. Mine was ‘hammer’. I cannot begin to explain how great sitting in the saddle feels and riding those trails. Montana I will be back. And if your looking for a top notch once in a lifetime experience visit Swan Mountain Outfitters. Best in the business.

Incredible trip! Took the 3 day pack trip ~15 miles in. Coming from Chicago, the views were breathtaking. The experience was rewarding. Although our group was comfortable in the outdoors based on previous camping, we had barely any riding experience prior to this. Don’t let that stop you if you were like us.
The guides (Nelson and Kevin) were informative, reaffirming, and listened. They took whatever concern you had seriously, and addressed it to ensure you were comfortable. It truly is your trip and what you want to do. Our camp cook, Stephanie, made fantastic meals, but we also found ourselves sitting at the table or riding the trails sharing stories with her. She was amazing.
The rides can be hard at times—very steep inclines/switchbacks. But, you need to and learn to trust your horse. They’re incredible animals—literal athletes in every sense—that the outfitters truly care for and you learn to truly respect/admire. The horses have done these trails hundreds of times, so you quickly learn to trust what you learn during your orientation, but more importantly, trust your horse when technical parts of the trail come in front.
Only negative/feedback I would give to SMO is to be more clear on tipping at the end of the trip. Although stated on the site and materials provided, it was still confusing at the end of the trip. All because we wanted to make sure we were compensating everyone appropriately for an amazing trip! Just caused a little frustration among the larger group but nothing to deter from this experience.
You’ll see views you would never be able to see any other way. You’ll experience new, sometimes challenging but always rewarding, things when it comes to the ride. And, you’ll make some friends along the way.
Recommending to all my friends/family. Thank you SMO! Will not forget this trip.

We did a 2 hour tour out of Many Glacier to Cracker Flats. Our guide was Dita. We had a great time! They staff goes over all the safety guidelines, helped my short person stature up on my horse. Dita was very informative and engaging throughout the ride and we get a cute pictures at the end. If you do not regularly ride a horse, I would suggest the one or two hour ride because it is a workout! It was the perfect excursion for something different on my husbands birthday. Highly recommend!

Our group of 5 had an amazing time on our 2 hour trail ride leaving from their corral in West Glacier. Roger and Ethan were great helping us get on our horses and doing the safety demonstration. We had a mix of experienced and brand new riders and they paired us great with our horses. Ethan was a great guide and pointed out plants and told stories about the trails we were on. The horses were all very well-mannered and enjoyable to ride. The views from the hike were also so beautiful and we all agreed it was the best experience anyone has had on horseback. 10/10 would recommend Swan Lake Outfitters to anyone!

We went on the half day ride to glacier overlook. We had a lot of fun! The horses are extremely mild mannered. I do believe they take into account your experience on horse assignments. I have been riding all of my life so they gave me a horse that needed to be in the back because he doesn't like having other horses behind him. But I didn't have any issues with him at all, he was a sweetheart. Our guide was awesome! He made sure to constantly keep an eye on us to make sure things were going okay. My friend rode who has very little to no experience and she had a lot of fun. This is fun for anyone.
The Bison Range Wildlife Refuge is a vast native prairie land that serves as a sanctuary for various wildlife species in Montana. Visitors can enjoy viewing bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, and mountain sheep up close through the 19-mile long Red Sleep Mountain Drive loop road. A visitor center and several trails are also available for exploration. Non-tribal members are required to pay an admission fee of around $15-20 per car to drive around the area.
Unbelievably cool place to go to see bison and just about every other species of wildlife Montana has to offer. I would definitely talk to the people of the visitor sent her first to see which direction you should take first because the park is fairly large. Highly recommended!

Visiting the National Bison Range was an unforgettable experience. The sprawling landscapes and the majestic sight of bison roaming freely were awe-inspiring. The well-maintained facilities and informative visitor center provided great insights into the history and ecology of the area. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing our visit with fascinating stories and facts. The opportunity for wildlife photography was exceptional, with not just bison but also deer, elk, and various bird species. This visit was educational, serene, and visually stunning, a must-see for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

We are full time RV travelers and met our good friends in Thompson Falls. They took us to the Bison Range. It is well worth the hour and half drive through the range. You can stop and just view the bison and elk roaming free. Majestic animals are best when they are free. We saw Elk, Bison, a deer with a little doe. and Antelope in the distance. The employees are very nice and will answer any questions you have.

This was one of the best places to go on our Montana trip! Breathtaking views, and it was so nice to see the bison herds! The museum was very informative, as I am a tourist and had no idea about the history of the area. I am very happy to see that the local tribes have taken over management of this land and the bison herds. Staff at the visitor were helpful and nice.

Enjoyed a leisurely drive on the longer of the two loops through the Bison Range, beginning about 1:30pm. $20/car. Just a few sightings on the first half, but a few gatherings of bison towards the end of the almost 2-hour drive. No getting out of the car. First section was a one-way road, then it was divided, though no visible markers. Just the kind staff gentleman who was making rounds backed up to inform us.
A pleasant way to see the bison. Saw a few deer as well, but no elk on our afternoon trek.
Highly recommend if you’ve never seen these beautiful creatures outside a zoo.

The Bison Range is such a good place to go when you’re looking for wild life and if enjoy slow steady rides in the out doors. Many bison, antelope, elk, and eagles. Non tribal members pay a fee to drive around, usually $15-20 a car. Worth the money.

1) If you're really afraid of heights it might not be for you . It's a steep (at times) ride up a mountain 2) you'll definitely need a car wash afterwards. 3) it's a gravel road, so if you're picky about your car......4) It's INCREDIBLE! WORTH my fear of heights and we saw plenty of bison and an elk. Do it!

what an excellent place to go, this place is very well-maintained. The price was very reasonable, and just $10 per car. We had a great time we took the hour long drive, and we were able to see Buffalo, some elk, and pronghorn antelope. It was really cool just to see them pop up out of nowhere. The terrain is beautiful and it is well worth the time and effort it took to find this place. You will not regret driving out here, it is just a real special place.

Stop at the visitor center for $10 admission, and spend some time with the exhibits. Important history lessons. On the drive are gorgeous views! Saw snakes, birds, bison, elk, deer, and antelope. SO worth the 2 hour drive for us to get there. Take the long loop - you won't regret it!

The first time I went was in fall and the Elk were bugling, which was awesome to see/hear. Both times I've been back, the bison have been pretty close. I've also seen antelope and deer, but have missed the big horn sheep. Love that this place belongs to CSKT now.

The views are amazing! We got lucky and saw some bison upclose but most were far away. Make note that the loop takes about 2 hours so give yourself plenty of time. Definitely one of our favorite things we did in wy and mt!

A special place to visit for a moment of quiet reflection.
Accessibility info and site description: There are several disabled parking spots available, but no protected van-accessible parking. (Turn into the property through the gate, the main parking area and public restroom will be to the right, continue driving straight to find the disabled parking area). The walking path is gravel, about the width of a sidewalk, with grass on either side. Near the entrance, there's a few pieces of wood that intersect the trail, coming up off the ground several inches (see photos). The trail is wider along the outer circle, and narrows as you follow the statues toward the center. At the center statue, there is a brick path, but this area was roped off when I visited in March 2022 (unsure if this is temporary). Without access to the brick path, there is only a very narrow dirt trail around this inner circle. There is an additional public restroom on the far side of the property near the pond and gift shop. There are no benches along the trails, or anywhere that I could see. The distance from the disabled parking area to the entrance of the Dharma wheel is around 350 feet, and another 200 feet to the center statue. I would estimate the total distance around the wheel to be about a quarter mile. There is no fee to visit, but they do accept donations.
This is such a unique, interesting, and peaceful place and I have enjoyed my visits over the years! Just a heads up to fellow disabled visitors: the gravel path is really difficult to traverse in a wheelchair, there is no snow removal from the path so it may not be accessible until spring, and there are no benches.

Such a beautiful museum. A perfect space that represents Buddha in their eyes of peace and serenity outside. For people to gently learn with the scriptures that have been written on the rocks and understand the equivalent piece that has been portrayed here. Absolutely delightful

Visited January 2nd. Very long drive from Whitefish. I do not know what I think of this place and cannot decide if the drive was worth it or not. The toilets - both at the entrance and diagonally across are HORRIBLE. Do not go there if you can help it.
The gardens themselves are extremely underwhelming. Is it because it is winter? But then again what happened to designing gardens for 4 seasons? Winter interest? But I appreciated the opportunity to learn about other faiths. For some reason, I hoped to see 1000 different Buddha statues. 10 pieces around the circle, it was clear the entire set is exactly the same... Again, I do not know how I feel. Maybe just don't go in the winter. Might try it again in a different season - may be.

Great stop if you're around the area, even in not so favorable weather. The grounds are so peaceful and clean. If it were nicer out the day I visited I'm sure I would have spent more time taking a more thoughtful walk rather than sort of hustling back to the warmth of my car. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of elk and their natural habitat. The RMEF has a well-designed visitor center with interactive exhibits that are suitable for children. The exhibits showcase the story of elks and their environment, while a nature trail provides an opportunity to explore the surroundings. Additionally, the RMEF regularly hosts events for families and kids, which are professionally organized.
Wonderful place to check out while you're in the area! Besides being an important conservation group, the RMEF has a great visitor center that anyone can enjoy. They routinely have events for kids and families, which are always highly organized and professional.

Amazingly wonderful place to learn about the local elk and their habit. It is free to get in and look around. There are great walking paths on the property that are also free to use.
There is a small shop, but its only focus is on men with nothing for women or children. Prior to their remodel, the whole place was more family friendly in the activities as well as the shop.

Elk Foundation Headquarters no longer worth a visit. With a big fence around it now not really a very welcoming place. Maybe there motto is "Welcome to Montana, now please leave." Nothing like an organization that pleads and whines to protect elk population and habitat only to roll up the carpet for the locals. Great example of a Missoula "citizen."
Susan Andrews — Google review
The Montana Elk Foundation continues to support the torture of animals, theft of pets and violation of fair-chase standards by providing funds and lobbying for trappers who represent a tiny fraction of the population. Their good work to preserve elk habitat is stained by catering to those who think torturing animals for profit and “fun” is a good thing.

A Carousel for Missoula is a beloved local attraction that features a hand-crafted carousel and hosts frequent community events. Additionally, the site boasts an outdoor playground called Dragons Hollow, which is perfect for families with children. Despite recent concerns about mask-wearing for kids, many visitors still enjoy the facility's open-air environment amidst the heat. Overall, A Carousel for Missoula offers a unique and magical experience on the edge of Clark Fork River that appeals to all ages.

It was so much fun! The carousel went pretty fast. My two daughters and I pulled plastic rings from a dragons nose as we were going around. It was challenging to grab a ring but we got all of them. The last ring is brass and whoever gets it, gets a free ride! I'm in my late 60's and felt like a kid again, riding a horse on a carousel. We laughed so much and rode the carousel a couple of times. The elderly (older than I) gentleman that was in charge, told us that a 97 year old woman got on a horse last month. She holds the record. It's for all ages and you are never too old to ride a carousel. Cute little gift shop. Friendly and fun staff there. A great experience and a must do if you are visiting Missoula, Montana.

We come here for our daughter’s birthday every year and it’s magical. This year we came on a Saturday and even though it was busy, we still barely had to wait to get on. The attendant saw our daughter’s pretty dress and asked if it was her birthday. Then he announced her by name over the intercom and had everyone tell her happy birthday. People even came up to her later and gave her their unused tokens so she could ride over and over. It was the highlight of her entire birthday week, and ours too. We found out later the man’s name is Jeff, and we’d like to thank him especially for making our daughter’s special day so incredible!

If they are going to do such a thing.. they should practice cleaning the facility instead... it's OUTSIDE anyways.. in heat.. it's kinda ridiculous.. kids had fun, but mine weren't going to put a mask on... but A child is telling me I needed to wear one?? It kinda ruins the experience...
The University of Montana, a research institution established in 1893, boasts of an expansive park-like campus with an iconic hillside "M." The atmosphere during night games is electric as students and the band cheer on their team, making the surrounding mountains ring with excitement. Despite lacking another video screen on the opposite end and not permitting beverages in seats, it remains a great place to watch a game. The campus itself is beautiful and steeped in history while still providing all modern amenities one may need.
After four years here, I can say that this is an amazing campus and worth spending time studying at. The faculty and staff are amazing, the grounds are beautiful, and there is always something to do or an event that is happening on campus. My favorite area is the Oval.

Subjectively, can't complain with the inherent beauty that permeates the area. Objectively, not yet a student so I have no insights on the affairs of the matter but am highly considering enrollment in an upcoming program.

Working construction at the university is always a challenge. Have to pay for parking for the whole crew. Nobody working construction likes to park off site as construction workers have much money tied up in tools etc. The university should let construction personnel park for free in a designated area. We appreciate the work we do at the university but probably one of the most challenging areas to work.

I love this University. We went to the game last night. It looked packed and all the students and band made the surrounding mountains ring with cheers. Such a great atmosphere for a night game. The town is lovely. We visited en route to Glacier Park. Stayed at lovely Babs Historic Hotel. Although the energy in town is sad due to the ideology being instilled in the youth at the college. Posters and signs along hip hop strip are very left...."abortion for all", "pride tide", "entitled" noted graffiti, homeless, etc. Beliefs reflected in how a visitor is treated. Sad. City officials, college admin., business owners need to make improvements.

Follow the sidewalk to the left of the visitor center to find a kiosk with brochures, a beautiful view of the Bitterroot Mountains, a covered picnic area off the trail through the grass, and an outdoor amphitheater. To find Kenai Trail, continue on the path and cross the bridge. Kenai Trail is paved, three feet wide, and in mostly good shape. It is an estimated .3 mile loop with five backless benches, and goes through the grasslands. About two miles down the road from the visitor center and Kenai Trail is the Wildlife Viewing Area trails, which go through the riparian forests. Unfortunately there is extensive damage to the pavement at the entrance, which has made the disabled parking unusable and the entrance to the trails no longer wheelchair accessible. The left side of the entrance is passable, but note that it is rocky, uneven, and unstable. Once past this section, there are restrooms, an entrance sign with a map, and a covered viewing area with benches overlooking the creek. A wide paved .5 mile path leads to the Bitterroot River, and there are several trail offshoots from this main path. The Slough Trail is a .4 mile partially paved trail on the left, the Ponderosa trail is a .9 mile looped dirt trail near the entrance sign, and the .4 mile Cottonwood Trail on the right was flooded at the time of my visit. Note: there are no benches along these paths. Other areas of interest at the Refuge include the Grube Barn and the Whaley Homestead.
Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge offers stunning, unobstructed views of the Bitterroot Mountains with an added bonus of wildlife viewing. It's usually very quiet and has great opportunities for photography and birdwatching. The best part is that there are trails for all ability levels. I always look forward to my visits here!

Beautiful, peaceful wildlife refuge with a large variety of bird species to see and listen for. Paved and unpaved walking trails - can walk all of them in less than two hours. Gorgeous views of both the Sapphire and Bitterroot Mountains.

Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved gold-mining town from the 1890s, featuring compact log cabins with period furnishings. More than a dozen buildings have been preserved in a state of "arrested decay", providing visitors with an authentic glimpse into the gold rush days when cities were built quickly and vanished just as fast. The ghost town has over 25 buildings to explore, and informational placards are available throughout the site.
Great ghost town, well preserved, and one of the best in the state.. Tons to see and there are placards around the town, explaining what this once lively mining town was like. There are over 25 buildings in the ghost town. You are free to roam around and explore the buildings and town. Depending on the time of year, the 10 mile or so dirt road may be like an amusement ride with the washboard roads.

Well worth a visit. Plan on at least an hour or two. Once you start exploring you won't want to stop. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for some good information. Remember to buy something and/or make a donation to help preserve this special place. And leave my big chair alone! If you see the chair, you'll know which one I'm talking about.

It was an adventure to get there. The 200 route is smoother but if you are coming from the east, longer. We came through the rough ( bear gulch and cave gulch) and left on 200. Both are beautiful. The roads are one lane and pretty rough. We were able to do it with a front wheel drive vehicle so 4x4 is not necessary, but follow the signs. It was super tight when we met a car coming in the opposite direction but we were able to squeak by. The town is fun and has a beautiful setting. Some buildings are pretty rough and some have been fixed up a little. Well worth the adventure!

If you want a "real" ghost town experience, this is for you. This town is well preserved and mostly abandoned with cool artifacts and wonderful structures. You can almost feel the presence of the past around you without crazy tourist traps etc. Just watch the road, come in via Dublin Gulch and Route 200.

Great experience. Love to see historic towns like these. The scenery around was beautiful as well. Pack a lunch and drinks when you go there. Also, be careful on the gravel road, especially in a small car.

Been here twice now. Well kept and rather secluded location. Both times I went there was only one other group of visitors. Unfortunately, today the doors to the main buildings (hotel, general store and speakeasy) were locked but we were still able to go into the miners' cabins. This is worth the visit, just be careful on the road up as it is very winding and it can be difficult to see other cars on the curves.

This was a really fun detour on our trip. The roads were a little rough but was able to make it there in a sedan. The buildings are really cool to look at and the staff there are super fun to talk to. Might be a bit concerned with some of the wood in the buildings, I can see it becoming a safety issue in the future. Overall fun experience I would recommend stopping here

Coming from 200 the gravel road wasn't an issue with our full size rental car. Really neat place to walk around and explore. The information placards and the visitors guide were very detailed about the history of the mining and the town. It was a very fun way to spend the morning.

Great stop for a day trip! We had so much fun exploring this little town, it is very well maintained and clean with info posted about each structure. The downside was definitely the service and maps, we did end up with maps taking us down a dead end park road and getting lost for nearly 2 hours. Definitely map the trip there and to the next destination before you go while you have good service!

Well kept buildings and an informative brochure to guide you through it! Beautiful area but low riding vehicles not recommended. Great handicap parking spots available.

Beautifully preserved ghost town! You can even go inside the buildings, and some have multiple levels. The signage at each building provides great context that brings the character of the town to life. We came in from MT-200. The road up was pretty easy even though you gain a lot of elevation. We visited all the buildings in an hour and a half, but there are more trails in the area to explore. Bring cash to pay the entrance fee.

We took Bear Gulch Road to get there. Thankfully, we have a Jeep, and we enjoyed the rugged drive. The road out to hwy 200 was a much smoother experience. The grounds and buildings were well maintained. Nice little visitor center and brochures available, even placards at many of the buildings providing its historical significance.... nice to see school buses with kids learning our past.

Awesome town. I would not attempt in 2wd or a car. Last section of the road had some good size ditches. Road was pretty sketchy in Dec with snow and ice.

Such a sense of gratitude for those responsible for preserving our history and especially to the extent of dedication taken here at Garnet Ghost Town. Here you get an authentic interpretation of how an 1800s Old West Mining town could have looked and what life might have been like for these folks. Several well preserved buildings and a treasure of antiques from that period. I especially liked the Wells Hotel and Kelly's Saloon. Absolutely fantastic and worth every effort to see this Montana Treasure.

Amazing ghost town nestled on the top of a mountain. Well preserved and documented. Plenty of information plaques and most buildings have original furniture and items. Some buildings can be rented in the winter months too.
Note: entering from the north side is much easier than from 90. Driving in from 90 involves a steep rocky mountain pass that may be a little too much for a sedan or those afraid of heights

Beautiful spot & we’d definitely go again!! Absolutely no signal on the way up, so be sure to load map before heading there. Not a whole lot of signage. Hwy 200 is the best route to go. It’s a beautiful drive & room for 2-way traffic. The other route was totally harrowing! 😳

Such a cool historical place! I think people from MT can sometimes forget we are surrounded by history. It is easy to get to, but there is some dirt road driving. Easy walking, and interesting sites.
Gem Mountain Philipsburg is a popular destination for gem enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to mine for local sapphires. Located just outside of Philipsburg, Montana, this attraction allows visitors to wash and sort through gravel in search of precious gems during the warmer months. Additionally, Gem Mountain has a year-round gift store in Philipsburg where visitors can continue their sapphire mining experience indoors.
Mining for sapphires is so much fun. we got a few that were larger than 2 carats, We need to send them in to have them heat treated. I highly recommend either going to the mine or buying a box from them to go through!

I have been coming here for 5 years and have never been treated so poorly. At 3pm I was put on a waiting list to have the stones looked at, at 5 pm they close and would not look at my stones. We were only here for 1 night. I'm stuck with stones, $45 of nothing. It's not worth your $45. Avoid doing business here

Sarah Leithold — Google review
We bought two buckets of gravel for $40 each to sort through and found several cuttable stones. Our second bucket had an unusually high amount of sapphires, so be aware that your mileage may vary.
They charge reasonable prices and make it straightforward to find sapphires. It was absolutely thrilling to find gemstones. The gravel was raw, muddy, and brown at first, not loaded with polished stones like some tourist destinations do to make people feel special.
The way the gravel is sorted by the attendants pushes almost all of the sapphires to the top of the gravel pile when the sieve is flipped onto the table. This makes for a great experience, because multiple sapphires are usually visible before starting the longer part of the hunt.
If you'd like your sapphires/garnets cut, they are currently experiencing a one year wait because of how many customers get in line.

Talk about addictive. Digging through dirt @ our age is just good clean fun. We ordered some of ya'lls buckets of dirt and we are on a steep learning curve before our actual arrival in the Big Sky.. Sitting on the Mexican Border sifting thru all this rock is nothing short of just a blast! Still have a few lbs to go through but I'm pretty sure we will order more before we get there. I guess it's kinda like gambling @ a casino without the second hand smoke! Just the luck of the draw..

The Sweet Palace in Philipsburg is a candy emporium that boasts an extensive selection of over 1,000 different kinds of treats, including hard-to-find candies from the past. In addition to individually wrapped and hard candies, the store offers fresh handmade sweets such as fudge, taffy, caramels, and chocolates. There's even a selection of sugar-free candies available.
Very fun! Most items are priced by the pound, mix and match. Clean. Lots of sugar free options, homemade goodies, and every flavor of jelly bean and taffy imaginable.

This place is sweet tooth heavenly experience. I thought I was going to pass out from a sugar rush coma. This place was so amazing and I love that alot of the chocolates, taffy and fudge are home made. It's so great cause you buy by the pound and you can mix and match candy. Note to people with nut allergies I would not recommend the chocolate in cases or fudge do to cross contamination. Thanks to Lexi who warned me or i would have had a real emergency. But all there are a ton of other candies around for you to try. I love the taffy, bubble gum and other assorted treats. They also had alot of stuff animals which I ended with a cute little red octopus. Sugar-free candy is available.

This is one of the very last 18th century candy stores. Such a fun place to visit. Our kids were amazed at the variety. They have an old soda dispenser machine as well. There are old candies I have not see since I was a kid. The entire downtown was a neat experience.

This candy shop has everything. It takes you back to the days when Penny Candy was a thing. Obviously, the candy is a little more expensive now, but I loved the old timey feel. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable about the candy in the store. It's paid by the pound minus the chocolate, so you can mix it all up if you want. The chocolate is yummy, and the staff member who works the case answers any questions you have. It's a great place to take the kids to show them how life used to be or as an adult to reminisce how life once was.

Oh. My. Goodness! Soooo much Candy. It’s easy to spend $100 as a fam just filling up the bags with a couple of everything you could ever want. From chocolate to sours and everything in between. There’s also a huge variety of sugar free candies/chocolates. The store is very clean and checkout is smooth. Nothing beats the vintage aesthetic. They even have a Penny machine! Definitely recommend to everyone.

We love our annual visit to The Sweet Palace! Before we even arrive, my husband is making a list of all the candies he plans to add to his bag! Beautiful shop with huge variety of candies.🍬🍭🍫🍥 My fiance and I came here today from Anaconda and enjoyed the time we spent in there looking around and filling up a couple bags of candy. The ladies who worked there today were very polite and helpful and prices are affordable. We munched on some of our candy on our way home and it is delicious! 😋
Cherie Haugen — Google review
Great nostalgic feel in this candy land shop. I recommend a first pass through the shop without picking anything out as you can end up with WAY too much candy when you get to the end. The homemade chocolates had great flavor, but I wish there were two sizes to the nut clusters as they are huge. It would also be nice to have some smaller bags for the jelly beans as there are 70+ varieties and I prefer to keep the sweet ones separate from the salty ones for flavor mixing.
Tons of variety and nice staff make this a great shopping stop.

This place is a gem. Second visit while driving through. Wonderful place to stretch your legs during a long I-90 road trip. There are tons of buildings to explore and some animals to see up close. Lots of interesting facts about real life cowboys of the old west. Don't miss the chuckwagon chat. The house tours just reopened 6-27-22 after being closed for years due to COVID. Rangers and volunteers are knowledgeable and very interested in ensuring you have a fun visit as long as you're respectful of the historical artifacts.
Make sure the kids get a Junior RANCHER booklet on the way in. My kid already has a vest full of Junior Ranger badges, but they're especially proud of the Junior Rancher badge.

Sure I am sure glad I found this very fun and informative ranch. There is no entry fee, thank you national Park service. The day I went there they were serving a free chuckwagon lunch. Make sure you sign up for the tour of the main house which is free but limited availability. Get to see what a working ranch is and was. They still farm the ranch and raise cattle and hay. As usual the park service people were very nice people. You could cruise through the place in an hour or spend 2 1/2 hours like I did. You will need to walk a mile or so. Plenty of benches around.

This place was pretty amazing!! We went to get our National Parks Passport book stamped but it turned out to be pretty spectacular!!! There was a working blacksmith shop and a real cowboy with coffee brewing over an open fire! LOTS of buildings to self guide through. Cows and horses and chicken. We went out of our way to go so we didn't have time for the tour of the house but wish we had! The views were amazing as well. The husband and wife team that we met at the visitors center were so nice and super helpful. They volunteer their time to work there! We were both super impressed!!!!

We were lucky enough to visit the ranch on day when they were haying. Everything on the ranch follows the customs from the early 1900s and watching them use the beaver slide didn't disappoint. We were also fortunate to sit beside a lady whose father built over 50 beaver slides. She was a walking Wikipedia source. We did the house tour and most of the facilities. We spent about 2.5 hours and didn't see everything.

Important place in Western US history. Late 19th century main house with period furnishings. Chuck wagon, bunk house, stables, historic horse-drawn wheeled vehicles, blacksmith shop, and other buildings. If you want to learn about late 19th to early 20th century ranching, the Grant-Kohrs Ranch is highly recommended.

This place was awesome and completely free (they accept donations). The staff was extremely knowledgable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend the house tour and chuckwagon tour. The covered wagon/horse tour was also nice, but I believe it only happens on Mondays. Many of the staff are cowboys and know how to lasso. They are happy to teach you if you ask!
We stopped here on our road trip and it has been one of my kids favorite places. The cars were really cool and there were a lot of them. After we toured the cars we went to the prison and my teenagers absolutely loved it. You get to wonder around throughout the whole thing without being bothered. It made it so we didn't have any pressure and could play stupid games. The staff was great and the town is fun too, if you are thinking about stopping it is worth it.

So much to see here. You could spend a full day between the two attractions.
The auto museum has way more vehicles than I could have ever imagined to find in this small town. Really pleasantly surprised!
Looks like there was some recent damage to the ceiling and some of the cars had obvious water marks from the damaged ceiling.
Still though, it didn't take much away from the experience.
The prison was really cool, Tons to see and explore. It's laid out really well and in great shape.

What a fantastic museum! We were passing through, and arrived kind of late, but were delighted to learn that our admission is good for up to a year, so we can come back and finish the rest, so long as we keep our receipt! Was mostly excited about the prison portion (which was great) but was so pleasantly surprised by the auto museum. You really do need to spend at least half a day here, but with their extended admission, this works great. Can't wait to return to attend the other attractions we didn't get to see this time (Yesterday's Playthings, Frontier Montana, etc.). Also, we were eligible for a discount, which was so greatly appreciated. Can't wait to come back!

The auto museum was absolutely amazing. Beautiful cars from early 1900s to current. There are many rare cars to see. 100's of beautiful restored cars. Highly recommend this auto museum. The prison museum was very interesting to see. On display is barbaric old dental and medical tools they used back in the day. Very crazy to see how they handled prisoners so many years ago. This is a very eerie place.

Looks like a super cool place with lots of things to do. It was closed when we got there.(January 2022) It seems to be a good thing to do in a town where "there is nothing to do" we stopped on a road trip and were sad that it was not open. Sign said their season begins Feb 4th.
We still walked around the building and enjoyed the architecture they've added. There seems to be some kind of fair ground right next to it too. It's probably where they hold city events.
Parking was very very unclear. We might have parked in a field, I have no idea.
Overall, I'd love to visit again when it is open if we are ever going through town.

The automotive museum is very good. A great collection of cars from every era. Many of them are fairly rare to see. The collection is much larger than I expected. If you are a car person, you should plan your trip through this area to allow you to stop, you will be glad you did
The prison is eye opening. If you have never been in one, you should see it here where they let you leave. You do not want your first tour to be a permanent one haha.

This is a must see. So many cars and the self guided digital audio tour is great for the prison. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here.

The inmate hobby store across the street is also amazing.

We used to ask Grandma if she went to college. She said she graduated from MSP, a private girls school out west. Little did we know her alma mater was the Montana State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge. What an amazing place. The car museum goes on and on with a collection of cars that has to be valued in the millions. The old prison grounds are interesting and the buildings are spooky yet give a real sense of what it must have been like inside. The self guided tour had plenty of info and stops with unbelievable and very interesting facts. Bring the family and check it out. As for grandma, she wouldn’t get out of the van while the family saw the sites. She said she wasn’t going back behind those walls. Unreal. Anyway, check it out. Btw, I bet many came to know Jesus in the little chapel there. Pretty cool and Jesus does save. From behind bars to eternity, I can’t imagine!

This place is a really cool stop you might otherwise overlook. It has an old prison, hundreds of amazing cars from the 1900s-1970s, and an old toy museum. You gain access to all of this with one admission ticket sold at the prison gift shop, which is good for a 2nd visit within one year.
The prison is cool to walk around, and the ghost/paranormal crowd seems to especially dig it. The car museum is amazing, there are so many old, expensive and rare cars in there! I really liked the toy museum, make sure to check out the miniture train exhibit. The caretaker was very kind and sweet.

Wonderful museum complex just off the highway in Deer Lodge. We were just passing through on the way to Glacier NP and had a little time on our hands. The prison is large and clearly laid out. The displays are very interesting. The attached car museum is wonderful. My husband and I found both our first cars in there. It was quite a fun afternoon. The ticket price includes a second visit, which we plan on using next week to visit the museums across the street of toys and WWII vehicles.

Amazing value! Your ticket to this museum also gets you entry to several others and one revisit for up to a year. The gift shop is very nice, reasonably prices. Broken Wings Paranormal (found on YouTube) did an overnight investigation from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. We have investigated other prisons and we are very impressed with how clean this prison is. We loved how easily accessible the building's are, and the fact they're far enough away from each other that we had no issues with interference of sounds from the other buildings or outside. It was sad we weren't able to go into the theater. Hopefully, the investigation fees will help more funds go to supporting the renovation of that building. We would love to come back, especially after the incredible paranormal evidence we captured here. We highly recommend this location for other groups, and even individuals who want to take part in a tour.

This was a great stop!!! The kids didn't want to stop initially, but ended up enjoying reading the plaques and learning about what was made here.

What an incredible course...and experience! Played this course on Wednesday September 14 along my route to Ohio...my 191st course in a little over 3 years.
The setting is so unique...a Superfund site made stunningly beautiful. The contrast of the immaculate greens and fairways with the black slag bunkers and waste areas...embraced by the surrounding hills make this course an amazing visual treat to play! Great layout with very large landing areas for your drive, with accuracy required closer to the green - the Nicklaus signature design. So much fun to play! Carts were very clean and well cared for.
Beautiful clubhouse with interesting interpretive panels detail the unique construction of the course. Orderly, well-stocked pro shop. The recently remodeled Jack's restaurant/bar is very clean and beautifully done, and the food (I ordered a Club) is delicious!
The staff at Old Works is awesome. The course pro Andrew was very personable, kind and accommodating, as was Paeton in the restaurant.
I'll definitely be back!

Very unique course from the setting(old copper mine) to the black sand. Challenging from the back tees, a typical Nicklaus design. Some forced carries, more left to right shots, and large greens. Very good course for the $. Food was decent and pro shop is standard. Worth doing.

Have played this course over the 4th of July holiday for the last few years. The overall course condition/maintenance has steadily declined over the last few years, the clubhouse however has improved dramatically. The staff is always friendly and fun from the Pro Shop, the wait staff, and cart attendants.. always fun, just wish the course conditions (fairway grass, greens)would improve

I've golfed on over 10 Jack Nicholas courses and this is my favorite one. It might be my favorite course of all time, nice Jack!

Great golf course in Anaconda. Bit out of the way but worth veering off the interstate for. Historic site of an old smelter with lots of cool walls and features built right into the course design. Amazing black bunkers and course is fun the play. Can be windy in the valley at times so be prepared.

Absolutely amazing course. Difficult at times but the old structures and history make it almost like a museum inside a golf course. There's water, elevated shots and the furthest tees are over 7200 yards. Also affordable for the evening rate with a cart. Loved this place

Beautiful site lines. Well maintained, challenging course! Slag filled traps are tough to play out of for sure. Undulating greens are challenging.
Long par 5's. Watch out if the wind picks up! Had a GREAT TIME playing with my son. High recommended!
The World Museum of Mining in Butte offers a glimpse into the city's extensive mining history. Visitors can explore a recreated 1890s mining town, take mine tours, and discover exhibits on mining tools. The museum is an excellent place to learn about the copper mining industry that once thrived in Butte. In addition to the Mineral Museum and Trolley Tour of Uptown Butte, visitors interested in local history should consider adding this attraction to their itinerary.
This is another must-do adventure if you’re in the Butte area! It is a very well put together museum and has exhibits of what a mining town would have looked like back in the 1800s plus actual copper and silver mining artifacts and platforms. There are a lot of exhibits to see covering a large outside area. There is also an actual old mine that you can tour, but that does require a separate ticket and is usually booked-up several days in advance, so it’s best to reserve your spot online. The mine tour takes you down about 100 feet into the mine, and is an exceptional experience and learning adventure. It is great for kids also, but not small children. It also is a fairly steep decline into the mine, and is pitch dark. They do provide you with helmets that have attached lights on them, but this was a fully working mine and is currently used to train mining students at Montana Tech. While they do everything to keep you safe, there are a lot of obstacles, and you have to be focused and have your wits about you. I would not recommend the mine tour if you’re claustrophobic or have other health ailments. It is also about 45° once you get down to 100 feet. But there is still plenty to do and see even if you don’t do don’t mine tour. They also have a lot of events going on during the summer, so check their website. The museum is also getting ready to start their haunted mine tours, so look for events and details on their website.

We passed through Butte twice on our way to Glacier National Park and coming back which was lucky for us as the mining tour is limited in numbers so we needed to book 4 days in advance. This tour is a gem, it is very authentic and down below earth and our guide Ken was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour inspired us to explore more and we visited The Archives Museum in The Historical District where again the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were delighted we spent some time in Butte.

I love this museum. This was my second time visiting and I loved getting to share it with my family. This is a great stop for kids with so much to look at, interact with, and just the immense amount of space it takes up. It takes a little over an hour (and thats with speed reading signs!). I have never done the actually underground tour but it's on my to do list now.

This is Avery nice history of mining in Butte. The pictures and donated memorabilia really helps show what life was like in a mining town. The town mock-up is fantastic at showing period prices showing invitation of the times. From dentistry to banking and everything in between. There is an actual mine tour, I would suggest calling ahead to get your times before you go. It was well worth the entry fee.
Michael — Google review
Great, knowledgeable guide who made the tour fun and quite interesting. Loved going down into the depths of the earth to experience what it was like to have be there. And the museum was set up very nicely with a great array of items and implements of how it was back then.

Very interesting, tons of history, lots to look at. Would've loved to do the underground tour but our kiddos were too small (we will have to come back!)
Our 2yo and 4yo were kinda bored so I don't think I recommend this in general for their ages unless the museum were to open up a little kiddos hands on learning exhibit.
But we loved walking thru the town and the seeing all of the old equipment. Definitely don't miss this stop in Butte!

This was a fun place to go. There is an old time mining town to wander through. Kid friendly. There is an underground mining tour that is a lot of fun but I, personally, wouldn't take young children on it because of the steep grades and darkness of being underground. The only light is from the light on the hard hat everyone is wearing. At one point the light is turned off. This is a an excellent experience to see the reality of an old time mining town and experience a mine.

This was an interesting tour with a wonderful tour guide. Ken was very informative and funny. The tour was a good length and was well worth it. Get on Kens tour and you can’t go wrong.
Ashley S — Google review
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She provided details and colour about mining history at both this mine as well as other mines in the area.
Lots of buildings to view and walk around, plus an interesting display of different rocks and geodes. I particularly found the fluorescent rock display to be intriguing.
Phillip Hill — Google review
Located on the far side of Montana Tech University, the World Museum of Mining is, hand’s down, a terrific place to learn about life in an 1800s mining town. The museum has brought in period buildings from all over, added local period pieces (whether saloon, apothecary, undertaker, and any of the dozens of other establishments) to make the town seem seamless. Most of the buildings had a QR code provided for obtaining additional information.
Even before leaving the museum store where you buy tickets to either the above ground and/or below ground experience, you will learn much about mining in Montana. There also are a couple special exhibit rooms which were mostly from private collections (one being dolls and doll houses mostly related to early Montana life; the other minerals and rocks).
The underground mine tour was led by Michael. He is well versed in the mining history of the area and was fully engaged in sharing what he knew.
There is SO much to see. My photos are only a small portion of our time there. Plan to spend at least three hours (1.5 on the underground, and the same walking the property). For your convenience and comfort, there is a perfectly modern restroom facility.

This museum was awesome. We took the Underground tour and it was fantastic! Rick was so knowledgeable and he really wanted us all to have an enjoyable time. I learned so much!! Some remarkable people are restoring this wonderful piece of history! Great job staff and donors. You can be proud of this gem!!

Highly recommend taking a tour of the mine! Very knowledgeable couple of guys. One worked as a miner in the 70s, and the other worked at a mine as well. They both had plenty of stories ranging from their own, to the stories of their fathers/grandfathers...
What a cool little place. They did a great job of painting the scene of old school mining. Awesome, and tragic history
Dylan Robles — Google review
Great informative mine tours. Staff was very knowledgeable about the machinery in the mines, as well as their geology. I would definitely recommend getting your tickets for the tour at least a day ahead, as there are limited spots available. In addition, wearing a light sweatshirt is a good idea, because temperatures in the mine are about 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Wear close-toed walking shoes (it gets muddy). Amazing experience for families!
Anne Marie Frandsen — Google review
Loved this place and stayed longer than I had planned because there is a lot to see! Entrance fee with the mine tour was just over 20 dollars. Recommend booking the tour ahead of time online. The tour of the mine was great! Been in many caves, but not a mine. There are no stairs, but it is sloped for the entire tour. You go down 100 feet while wearing hard hats with lights. Really cool experience. There is a little recreated town to walk through and it's interesting learning about the late 1800s to 1950s time-frame of a mining town. Recommend this place! And leave plenty of time so you're not rushed.

This site is loaded with historical eye candy of all kinds. From the Mining operations to the reconstructed town site it was a fully immersive experience. Our tour guide Troy gave us a tour that made the experience of the miners and this unique Butte American community come alive for us. My perspective on this important and often overlooked part of our history was enhanced and I honestly got teary eyed with pride thinking about how hard those men worked to do such a dangerous yet essential job. Hands down one of the best Montana tourist attractions and that is saying something! Thank you Troy!!!
This former copper-mine viewing point overlooks the huge open pit, now flooded with water.
Way bigger than we expected! You can see the waste water plant from the viewing stand, there's a lot of interesting informational signage, and we heard these echoing monitoring stations, not sure what they were for, but I intend to find out. Pretty cheap entry too.
Zzozzez — Google review
Arrived but was unable to get in. Google maps said it was open. Sign on the door said they should be open according to hours posted. Obviously hasn't been open for a while from the notes of the people showing up and also being disappointed to find them closed. The management should probably update their signs on the building to reflect the actual hours open.
wade mendenhall — Google review
Lots of good info for the curious mind. $5 per person and you can walk through the tunnel to the viewing area. In said area there are some signs with historical info and pictures, benches, and an old binocular thingy that costs a quarter. The entry building/gift shop has some souvenirs.

So interesting ! Our tour guide was retired history teacher. It doesn't get any better than that!

Pretty cool place. $5 bucks to walk through the tunnel to the observation deck. If you are into this kind of thing it is worth the $5 bucks. If unsure, send someone through 1st and have them decide if it is worth the whole crew paying the $5 each.

Have been here a few times. Always interesting to see. I think the informational displays at the viewing area are due to be updated and modernized. Difficult to read through the messy glass, and the info is quite dated. It also can get extremely windy in the viewing area, FYI

This thing is awesome! The platform allows you to take a look at the entire pit easily. The fee was fairly cheap and there were a few informative panels that tell all about the origins of the Berkeley Pit.

A small viewing deck to watch the huge pit. It’s a self-guided tour but you will get enough information about its history.

A great place to stop and take in the views! So much rich history and it is amazing to learn facts about the operation that made Butte the richest hill on earth!

Found this on Google maps, was curious to know what it was. We were visiting Montana and had time to kill. Entry fee was $3 per person. Walked through large tunnel and onto the platform that over looks the pit. Crazy how much water is there!! Turned green due to all the minerals in there. There's placeboards that tell the history of it. Small gift shop and they offer a tour thru the city on a bus for $25. Place is interesting

Very interesting stop to enjoy local history, and very reasonably priced. Handicap accessible, so my daughter was able to see everything with us. To see and hear about the past mining operations in Butte, I would recommend this stop.

Makes for a great stop when driving from Yellowstone to Glacier. Entrance fee is $3. The view of the Berkley Pit is amazing and there is a small “Museum” that informs you about the history. You won’t spent a long time there, but it’s very informative and interesting.
Wandern Leo — Google review
Definitely worth the $3 to enter tunnel to reach pit and view up close. Great little gift shop with beautiful copper jewelry and kitchenware, etc. Large boards to read history and see old photos; also a narrated audio voice re: history and current operations via speakers while you view the pit.

Cute stop with some interesting information. The woman in the shop was extremely friendly and the view outside is impressive. She was kind enough to warn us about the noises they set off to keep the birds out of the water which was highly appreciated as an Iraq and Afghanistan War Veteran. State park where Lewis & Clark stayed in 1805, with campgrounds, hiking trails & kayaking.
Very pretty place with lots of fascinating history. Has easy walking trails that are good for dogs and kids.

VERY confusing! We helped others after we figured out where the confluence was. Disappointing!

I was traveling across i94 and then i90. I’ve been intrigued by the Lewis and Clark expedition for a while and I kept seeing signs along the interstate that it was the Lewis and Clark trail.
So when I saw the sign for this park, I knew it was a key point in their journey. Just a couple miles off the interstate, I took the time to drive there and ended up spending 90 excited minutes exploring. Lots of great history and some good viewpoints you can climb up to fairly easily.

We are from Missouri so it was cool to see the Missouri River Headwaters. The ranger followed us to where we parked and was very quick to tell us that it was 8 bucks to park. We paid 8 bucks and spend a total of 10 minutes there. It was weird and not worth 8 bucks but they knew they could get it so they did.
Ryann Conner — Google review
Not what I expected for a state park. Took us a total of a half hour to see it all. Not sure it was even worth the entrance fee.

Very interesting place to visit. Nice walk to the headwaters

Visited during the winter and was disappointed. The hiking trails were pretty limited and the "park" seemed to just be random paths along a decently busy highway.

Missouri Headwaters park has picnic tables with awesome views of the river and surrounding mountains. It's a great place to stop for a picnic lunch and then climb around the rocks behind the pit toilets. I free climbed up the rock face and through the rock window...it makes awesome selfies!

6-8 Oct 2023. Nice campground near the Madison River. A short walk (about 1/2 mile) takes you to the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison rivers, the official beginning of the Missouri River. Short walking trails lead away from the campground. Historic Three Forks is just a few miles away. Campground is well maintained even in the off-season. We found the bees a bit of a nuisance, but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay.

The most disgusting place I have ever stayed. The outhouse hadn't been cleaned in quite awhile. Feces on the floor and the river of urine. The camp host looks as if he just quit rehab and will not talk to you to even let you know that there is no camping year round. They will just issue you a ticket. The history was awesome. The river absolutely beautiful. Avoid the campground at all costs. For the safety of you and yours don't do it.

Excellent place to stop while driving up or down I-90. Great place to stretch legs and see some history. It's really a gem of an experience knowing you are standing at the confluence of the biggest river in the USA and all of the history that goes with it.
The pay station was unattended. There is an outhouse bathroom by the pay station. Recommend walking the mowed trail that goes by the old hotel. . Kids enjoyed the park. We stayed about one hour total.

Nice place to sit and watch the river flow by. Never too crowwded. A pleasant place there are sites that you can have birthday parties or just watch the wildlife. A good place for birders and fishing. Just watch out for the moose. They can be pretty intimidating especially during the rut. A great place if you like to watch the ice flows

We were brought here by our local friends, and totally surprised by this beautiful park. As the “Head” of the longest river in the US, this park definitely left a clear and long lasting memory for my self, and gave me a good story to tell about the great state of Montana!

I didn't go on any hikes but that is an option. Park has a state fee which you put in the envelope upon entering. Drove to the confluence of the Missouri. Pretty neat.

It was like going back in time, especially when the beavers were right at the confluence of the Jefferson and Madison Rivers. It was an added blessing to learn that this was discovered by the Lewis and Clark Core of Discovery and that it was also Sacajawea's childhood home. I was also thankful that the advent of silk, and a change in styles, saved the beaver from extinction. Here begins a river of frontier history and culture.
The hot spring pool at Norris Hot Springs flows into a cool spray system which makes it a fun place to relax. The campground has a live music venue in the evening, and is family-friendly during the day.
My husband and I are from Southern Illinois and visiting Livingston for our honeymoon and stumbled upon Norris Hotsprings. We were looking at a couple of venues for hot springs and what stood out the most about Norris' location was that we could book a private soak. Let me tell you the price was well, WELL worth it. 26° outside and the water was the perfect temperature. The gal behind the counter was helpful, personable, and an absolute joy to speak with. The 2 hr time slot was a perfect amount of time to decompress and unwind, with champagne and food to enjoy as well. They also had a gorgeous and talkative old "man" who graced us with his presence for a few minutes! 10/10 will be back whenever we make it back out here!

A unique spot to visit !
No chlorinated water or treatment of any kind as the spring flows at 60 gallons per minute.
Pretty nice place for a dip & a healthy bite to eat (or a drink if you’re into that kind of thing.)
I like the live music year round on the weekends. Get there early !
Only one pool & no cold water dip (there is a cold water sprinkler of sorts in the one pool.)
A spot to enjoy if you’re camping, floating or fishing on the Madison river.
A Montana tradition not to be missed !

"You're simply the best, better than all the rest." I've been coming here all my life and while yes, it's busier now, only because it's wonderful! It still is what it always was- a natural wonder with better food and better atmosphere.

We had a private 2 person soak in early January/winter for 2 full hours and loved every minute of it. From the excellent water and temperature to the perfect playlist, music level, and vibe, this was an awesome experience. Not quite snow on the ground, but a nice crisp air in contrast to the perfect temperature water.
The bartender, Miles, was perfect - just the right amount of checking in on us and offering more food or drinks and mainly just leaving us alone to soak. Beer/wine/kombucha and great food without having to leave the water.
A perfect two hour experience and well worth it. I hope this place stays exactly like it is, wood floor and walls, minimally developed (just enough), and a great vibe.
No idea how it is when there's more people there, but I imagine this draws a great crowd of people who are comfortable with it exactly how it is, and it's still fun and worth a visit during the open admission periods.

This is a must to check out! The food is incredible and the new owner Miles is fantastic. Happy to have met him and his crew when we stopped by for lunch. I had a great time here for a 1.5 hours trip, even in the rain! Very casual and small, but the local food and bar was a lovely bonus. It was perfect as a solid traveler, the pool made it easy to talk to strangers and hang. Would definitely go back.

Nice pool for adults to hang out, kids too. $10 per adult. Wooden benches line the edge so you can sit and soak up to your shoulders. There is cold water spraying into the “pool” from above and that makes it cold when the wind blows. Food available menu has salads, nachos, pizza, rice bowls etc. also, ciders and beer. Changing rooms available and porta potties.
jennifer Taylor — Google review
We spent two nights at the affiliated campground here and had to spend a few hours soaking in the hot spring. It's a really cool pool with a wood slat bottom. They cool the water to around 100 degrees so it's comfortable, and have cold water spraying over part of the pool so you can cool off if the heat gets to be too much.
The real winner here was the attached garden-to-table bar and grill which had plenty of food and drink options. Many items on the menu are prepared with fresh ingredients from the extensive on-site garden!
Definitely a great way to spend an afternoon.

Very quaint hot springs in the town of Norris. The water is a perfect temperature with a wood base . Beautiful drive along the River . The hot springs does not provide towels or lockers so make sure you have a towel and be prepared to leave your belongings either in car or not locked up. They do serve beer and food. Service was ok. Very crowded the days we went on a Sunday. Plenty of parking. They also have RV sites .

I somehow had high hopes for this place but it turned out to be a disappointment. The pool itself didn’t seem very clean and hygienic. The bottom of the pool was filled with moss and very slippery. It made me nervous. The restrooms and the changing rooms were stinking of pee. The food and drinks were good and that’s the only plus. I wish the pool was better maintained. The scenery around was very nice.

When I reserved two nights at this campground, it was only $33 per night (it's since gone up to $50/night). Given that and the "middle of nowhere" factor, I came into it with low expectations of a short stop on our way to Yellowstone.
What we got here, rather, completely blew me away. My only gripe is that the sites are very small - not enough room for a picnic table on the narrow site. However, the bath house was one of the nicest and cleanest I've ever seen. The surroundings are beautiful, and the access to the hot springs made it a great experience. There was a lady doing landscaping who was one of the hardest working people I've ever seen, and it shows in the beauty of the place and surroundings.
At $33, it was a steal. But even at $50 its still a solid value. Highly recommend!

We were fortunate enough to be able to book in on the same day for White water rafting. Our guide was Gareth and he did an amazing job with us (2 adults and 2 children).
It was so hot outside that it was a great pleasure by each boy to be dunked in the water where it was calm.
Gareth was very effective at mitigating any dangers that we could have faced, especially with young children. At no point did any of us feel overwhelmed for our levels.
We found all of the rest of the staff to be friendly and more than willing to assist us with anything that we needed.
We highly recommend families to come here and enjoy the nature of the river.

We booked a private boat for a family friendly "less challenging" whitewater trip as we had 2 young kids (ages 6 and 7) coming along. The river is high this time of year so it was a lot faster and rougher than expected. They put us with a senior guide, Robert and he was awesome! He gave clear instructions, and the kids were screaming with excitement (thankfully the photos confirmed this) the whole time. From booking the trip, getting outfitted with all the gear, drop off/pickup, etc....it was all super organized and easy! We all had a great time, felt completely safe and would highly recommend Montana Whitewater!

We had a great time rafting with Montana Whitewater! Our guide Cameron was friendly, easy going, and very knowledgeable. The staff walk you through everything you'll need for the trip and they provide all the gear, which is included in the fee. We had fantastic weather (I don't think Montana Whitewater can take credit for that, lol) and a really fun crew on our trip down the Gallatin. The youngest in our group was 8 and the oldest was a grandpa and we all had a great time! Definitely a must do experience at least once while on your Montana adventures!

Great time! Every single person we interacted with really seemed to love what they do
We did the less challenging white water rafting with our 7 year old. Henry was our guide and kept us entertained in the calm water and in the action during rapids
We also did a zip line with Kaiden and Chase (Chance?). These guys were amazing. Kaiden had our son attached to him for the zips, and he was incredibly patient. Our son was TERRIFIED in the beginning, but by the end he was laughing
Thank you for the great memories!!

Great skiing at Big White. We had a wonderful Christmas in April with over 30 inches of new snow in a week. Terrain is awesome - from beginner to world class expert. Steeps, breathtaking views, tree skiing, blue cruisers, and big terrain park - there's something for everyone. I love the bubble chair lifts with heated seats. The village is small but has lots of character. We stayed at the Huntley Lodge and it was great, nicely updated. Will be back again soon.

Great resort. Lots of run options, large ski lifts with bubbles to protect you from the weather. Lines are short due to large and fast lifts. The staff is fantastic. The map shows lots of beginner hills. Brought my boys who are beginners and I think they are overly optimistic as many of the beginner slops are more advanced. Great place for experienced skiers not as great if you are a beginner.

This ski resort is HUGE. You could easily spend 2 days here and not repeat a run. The amenities are awesome. Heated seats on some lifts. Covers to pull down over you when it snows. They have great areas for beginners— our 7 year old had a great time. But also double black options for experts. I love that they have an excellent adaptive ski program associated with the resort. We didn’t find that until the day we left, but still be back to have our daughter with Down syndrome take a class. The lift tickets here are pricey. No question. We used our mountain collective passes which made that part easier to swallow for us. 2 days at Big Sky almost parts for the entire pass.

Huge! You would need several days to ski the whole resort, there are lots of various terrains and excellent lift and staff. The mountain is beautiful and you gotta go to the top if it's a sunny day! The base is not very good this year considering it's already March, I stuck on rocks multiple times when ski on seemingly untouched powder. Very easy to find parking and shuttles are very frequent if you park far from main base.

I booked the condo my friends own in Village Center for the week. The condo itself was very nice and clean, and the front desk staff members were friendly during my few interactions with them.
The relatively few on-resort dining establishments that were open were somewhat often closed during their posted business hours, leaving us to eat something we didn’t want or go off-resort.
The check-in process was confusing, and involved going to a different building than where we were staying, only to have someone escort us to another parking lot after quite a wait and get us checked in at the building where we were staying. I’d rather have been able to go to our parking area directly.
I was to park in the owners’ lot per my friends, but it was closed for an event the weekend we arrived. It was open after that for parking, but we were never given the code we asked for to access it, and had to park farther away during our time here. It was no dealbreaker, but for what it costs to own a condo here, I’d think the owners’ lot should always be available for them and their guests to use.
The hiking/biking trails and the disc golf courses are excellent. The hiking and biking trails are fantastic. The resort itself is in a beautiful location. It’s an outstanding place to get away and recharge.
Overall, the stay was very enjoyable, and the minor annoyances were acceptable considering the rates available at the time I booked. For people paying the current asking prices to stay here, the resort should do better.

Had a fantastic week here March 10-18. Great dump of snow midweek to give a couple of days of fresh powder - terrain is amazing with broad spread of difficulties from green all the way to triple? black diamond runs... The lifts are efficient and mostly with short lines. The tram system to the top of Lone Peak is a pay as you go system, with an additional daily fee on top of your existing lift pass. This cost varied from $50-80USD/Day and is based on expected demand. The tram caries only about 10-12 people each time, and only leaves every 5minutes or so, hence the wait times can be very long to get the lift (we waited 65 minutes), even when they only seem short in length. On a powder day, you feel a bit like you're letting the day go to waste a bit by standing around... But the terrain on lone peak is less travelled, so snow is less tracked. We had a deep powder run down Liberty Bowl (waist-deep powder) which was minimally tracked, so even for the cost of the tram add-on, I am still glad we did it!! It was phenomenal!!
Overall, not the cheapest place to have a family ski holiday, and probably would find a trip here with my whole family too cost prohibitive, but as this was taken as part of a conference trip, the tax deductible nature of many expenses made it pretty affordable overall...

Disclaimer trail maps make it look bigger than it is. It’s still massive. Don’t take the moose lift, it’s 20 minutes with no bar. But the glades are perfect. The bowl is fun. The catwalks are are long and the trails are smooth

This was an incredible and fantastic adventure. It is a thrilling activity surrounded by the gorgeous Gallatin National forest. Our zip-line guides were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this zip-line to anyone visiting the Yellowstone or Bozeman areas.
Only one word of caution, please check their website for weight by restrictions for safety. You can also rent a mountain bike, you can bike from top to bottom. There’s a lift that can take you to the top.

I have to say that we were truly amazed with the facilities, activities, food and service. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We came in July to visit some of the area’s national parks and wished we would have stayed one extra day to spend time on the grounds. We stayed in the Huntley Lodge and our breakfast was included in the Chet’s Restaurant. You never really have to leave the resort and there is no shortage of activities. Highly, highly recommend staying here!

I live and work at the big sky resort, our snow paths are phenomenal, a lot of various locations to rip the Nar worth every minute. The area host several events yearly such as archery, weddings, snow events, hiking events. Really worth looking into if you are a fellow Nomad like myself.

We had been coming to Big Sky for decades until they raised the ski rates a while back. However, we were able to take advantage of the early season ski and stay prices. The new upgrades on this mountain are surely worth it. Heated chairlifts, no lines, great customer service!!! Food was great and everyone was very helpful and friendly.
Geoff at Huntley Lodge was great and our first point of contact at checkin.

If there's ever a place suitable for skiers and boarders who have not once been on the slopes as well as those who have been on the slopes from the time they were in diapers, Big Sky is the place to be. It is truly massive, so much variety of terrain, amazing snow quality and gorgeous views. You want to do it Big, you do it at Big Sky.

The Good
- The Huntley Lodge is very nice and comfortable. The pool/hot tub area is nice however the jets were not working in one of the hot tubs.
- The breakfast was great! Plenty of choices and a great meal to start the day.
- The Peaks Restaurant and Cabin Bar & Grill were outstanding. Great dinners at both.
- Loved the Exchange area to get a quick bite, drink, and pickup groceries - however the lines for checkout was long and slow.
- The demo shop was great! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
- Ski valet guys were friendly and considerate.
- The skiing was fantastic! Lift staff were great!
The Bad
- Bell people didn't ask if we needed help with our bags when we arrived. We weren't directed to the ramp to roll our bags up.
- Check-in person had a bad attitude and was not helpful. Didn't solve problems especially for those who are first-timers.
- A lot of room noise from floor above. Walls and ceilings don't limit noise well.
- A lot of misdirection and miscommunication from ski rental shop when returning ski equipment.
- Ski instructors are great but more helpful when either be asked to help or being paid for a lesson.
We had a great time at Big Sky and would recommend it. I believe there may be need for additional training in soft customer service skills.

Beautiful scenic tram rides, views, hiking and mountain bike trails. Went with my husband and friends but would definitely come back with our kids. Saw many families out enjoying the outdoors; love to see it. Ample free parking. Don’t forget your sunscreen and sunglasses!

Very nice resort that is huge. They have a little bit of everything for everyone. My only complaints are the prices of everything. Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you come to visit or want to ski. We did a full day on Saturday February 4th, with lift tickets and rentals, and our son did a ski school for his age group (age 7). We wanted to do a half day Sunday. My buddy who did a full day Sunday paid $248 for a full day ticket, while I got a half day ticket around 1 pm for my son and I and it was $200 for me and $130 for him. He was a beginner and did not get off the magic carpet. That’s one thing that’s not clear on the website if a lift ticket is required or not for the magic carpet, or if I needed one to help him or not. Another thing was at the end of his lesson on Saturday his instructor said that they offered half day lessons and we should sign him up for Sunday. When we went to sign him up for Sunday we were told they don’t do half day lessons for his age group, that we could book a half day private lesson for $875 or a full day private lesson for $1075. Two waters at Madison village was $10.75. So just prepare to spend about double on everything. Nice resort with lots to do just budget accordingly.

Big Sky is arguably the best ski resort in the continental US. I like it because there is so much variety in terrain. The only negative is the village is not at the resort unlike Vail or Whistler, so you have to drive a couple miles to have more food, beverage, and entertainment options.

Dangerous ski place. Very crowded and the ski patrol does nothing to control the situation. There is a separate area for beginners but it full of teenagers going 100 mph going back to the lift. I saw several colitions and serious falls in a green run called Mr K and it was supposed to be a "slow" area.

Beautiful place but it’s up on the mountain not in the little town. It’s an absolutely beautiful drive up here from big sky.
Service was excellent, including a call letting us know the restaurants up in the hotel were closed because of the off-season.
Would probably be incredible to stay here if you were skiing.
Room rates in big sky are insanely high. But got a decent rate for this place online prepaid.

Great ski hill but man the conditions are rough.
The atmosphere is wonderful. DJ in the evenings. Almost a steamboat party vibe.
Runs are slightly shorter.
Not a fan that you have to pay for the tram. But I guess it keeps down the traffic.
A lot of chair lift issues and the lines have been pretty long

I spent a week snowboarding at Big Sky with friends. The mountain is fantastic. The scenery beautiful. Nice long runs at all levels. Nice lifts. No long lines. Only negative is the cost of the lift tickets. Very expensive.

I recently visited Big Sky Resort and had a truly enjoyable experience. The resort offers stunning views, excellent facilities, and friendly staff, making it a great destination for ski enthusiasts.
However, I feel it's important to mention that the pricing seems quite steep, especially considering that more than half of the mountain was closed during my visit. While I understand the costs associated with maintaining such a large resort, a daily lift ticket price of $234 felt excessive given the limited access. It would be beneficial for guests if the pricing reflected the actual availability of the trails and facilities.

Great place to ski! Amazing area. Slopes for everyone of all skill levels. There is no way anyone could get board here. The staff is extremely friendly. The drive to get there is breathtaking seconded only by the views from the slopes.

Still has ski maps THANK YOU!!! I didn't actually stay at the resort but I did ski 3 days and I want to say as someone who doesn't want to fumble with phone on lift, still having paper ski maps was VERY nice. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful mountain and gorgeous resort. As an amateur skier, I was surprised by the difficulty of the runs, but really enjoyed them all. Little to no line for the lifts, nicely groomed runs, variety of food options, and excellent lift service. Every Monday and Wednesday they have avalanche dog meet and greet, which was a lot of fun and educational. Highly recommend visiting Big Sky for your next ski/snowboard trip. Keep in mind the drive from Bozeman to Big Sky can be difficult at night, even in great conditions.

We spent New Years Eve at Big Sky and then Jan 8th at Big Sky for snow biking. We were up at Madison Village for the snow biking. The guys at the rental spot were nice and helpful, and making sure our 10 year old was comfortable. The snow bikes are highly recommended! They are so much fun! People operating the ski lifts were also helpful to slow or stop the ski lifts so our daughter could load and unload safely.
Beautiful winter hike ! Can be done with no snow shoes but a few slippery areas. The altitude will get you out of breath easily !

This has been by far one of the most beautiful trails I’ve ever done. Total of one mile down and one mile back. The trail is easy to walk through snow, has amazing scenery perfect for pictures and has good signage to let you know where to go. Plenty of picnic tables and benches to sit on.

A great trail, and is handicap accessible. My daughter made the trek with us, but there are steep inclines up and down the trail. Several bumps could present problems for wheelchairs also but is a manageable trail with spectacular scenery.

Gorgeous place. One of the best waterfalls i have been to. Well kept trail and plenty of benches. So many spots to look at along the way and access top and bottom of the falls. easy enough hike. Be prepared for some mosquitoes though. We got bit. There are some slightly dangerous spots so watch your kids. it was fairly busy on a summer late afternoon weekday. We got there a bit late and had the falls to ourselves for a bit though. Check out the top and bottom area

It is a flat trail full of switch back elevation changes. Check the time of year to make sure the paths are clear. Some snow and ice may be on the paths in May. Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Worth the walk. Go to the large falls since you can go to the base and top of the falls.

The water was extremely cold, but it was fun to swim in. The hike was amazing alongside the sights you get to see along the trail. The people we met were very friendly and taking pictures is a huge thing here for everyone. So, do be careful not to photo bomb and ask to take pictures with everyone else. Quite an amazing experience and must need to travel.

EXCELLENT! The Ousel Falls Trail was maintained very well and signage was visible and abundant. Beautiful trail with gradual switchbacks, bridge crossings and a beautiful set of falls that reminded me of Oregon/Washington Coast. This trail is maybe .5/.7 miles back and same distance back out. Great way to spend a small portion of the day. There are some picnic tables along the way, pack something to eat and enjoy the views and sounds of the falls for a few...please make sure to pack out whatever you brought with you👍🏻

This place is absolutely beautiful! The hike itself is very easy and you can get in and out in less than an hour. Different trails to choose from and there is a bathroom on site. This is a new fave for us!

Ousel Falls is a BEAUTIFUL waterfall!! Easily one of the most impressive in this area of Montana. Best thing is? It is very easy to get to! The trail is paved, which even makes it handicap accessible (albeit with some steeper parts), and it’s a nice 20-minute stroll to get to the main falls. Don’t think it’s boring along the stroll though - you have beautiful views of the trees and river and other scenery all along the path!
In summer, it’s a pretty popular destination. Many people in Big Sky visit with their dogs just to get their exercise in, and after it rains the falls are even more impressive. Try to time your visit after some heavier rainstorms (of course keeping in mind it’ll be muddy, so wear proper shoes)!
In winter, the falls are even more beautiful. They are pretty much entirely frozen, and you can walk right up to the ice! It is otherworldly seeing so much ice around, even if you’re from Big Sky! As an added bonus, way fewer people come in winter, so you might have the whole park to yourself! Do keep in mind though, it is quite slippery walking down to the waterfall in winter, especially if there have been some warmer days before your visit (as melting and re-freezing forms ice on the path), so be very careful when you’re visiting, and bring shoes with proper treading!
All in all, this is a must-visit when you’re in Big Sky. Whether you’re coming to the area in summer to visit Yellowstone, or in winter to ski up at the mountain, take one morning and head down to Ousel Falls. You’ll not be disappointed!

Lone Peak Brewery & Taphouse is a craft 10-barrel brewery that not only offers a variety of beers but also serves pub food and breakfast. Visitors have had excellent experiences at the brewery, where they were welcomed by Moses the wonder dog and enjoyed the dog-friendly patio. The wait staff was friendly, and the food, including dishes featuring bison, was described as terrific. Guests also loved the selection of beers, including an award-winning barrel-aged stout.

Food was far too overpriced for the the quality we received. Good fries though. Also, the hostess was very rude to my party and I only on having just arrived. Then she proceeded to say we couldn’t sit separately from each other even though there was 12 of us. Her tone was almost as if she was too good to be seating us. Would’ve probably got a 4/5, but the service was terrible. (Edit after receiving owners response) Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review, but I think you're misunderstanding how Google Reviews works. Google review is a wonderful system that allows consumers to review a place or establishment, while simultaneously giving feedback to others and establishments. You good sir/ma'am are taking this FREE feedback and time spent by others and wiping your butt with it. This feedback should be gratefully accepted and used to improve your business. Also let me inform you to why Customer Service is important because you fail to realize. It allows the customers to enjoy themselves and entices them to come again, but what do I know? Earthquake Lake was formed in 1959 after a massive earthquake, and it is located near West Yellowstone. The lake is picturesque and has a visitor center as well as hiking trails. Its formation tells the story of the power of Mother Nature, including death, destruction, and heroism. This place is hallowed ground where visitors can experience these forces firsthand. The old trees around the lake are eerie reminders of what took place, along with the small town on the bottom.

There is a visitor center displaying a Memorial from the earthquake with a plaque of the names of the 28 people who died and the events of the earthquake.

YES, this place is worth visiting, both in summer and in winter! If you are traveling to Yellowstone National Park, make the effort to go a bit out of your way to Earthquake Lake! It takes a little while to drive to, but it is a very unique place!
Earthquake Lake was formed not too long ago by one of the most powerful earthquakes in recent Yellowstone history. A landslide occurred, blocking off a river, and the area began to flood. Many people camping by the river died from this event unfortunately, and yet the lake is still here, decades later.
Earthquake Lake is so unusual as it still has many of the trunks from trees poking out of the water. These trees used to be on dry land alongside the river, but when it flooded, they died, and just the trunks remain. Also be sure to head up through the pass to see toward Idaho - if you’re there at sunset, it amounts for some beautiful photos.
There is a visitor center, gift shop, ample parking, some hiking trails, and various turnouts along the road so you can get some pictures of the lake. It’s worth visiting - I really like it here!

This is a beautiful place with a magnificent history and stunning scenery! The lake was formed by the quake of 59' that shook the region and changed the landscape. It is a beautiful drive toward Ennis, Montana to dig for garnets and gold in Nevada City or from Ennis toward West Yellowstone, the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. My boys have found petrified wood and lots of quartz crystals here. Even a couple arrowheads. We leave them here but they are still fun to find.
