Gorgeous little hike that overlooks the city. It was raining when we went and it was still an amazing morning walk, but I'm sure it would be even better at sunrise or sunset especially on a clear day.

Went up on an entertaining hike with the Bissell 5th and 6th grade field trip to the Lone Pine Park. It started with a fun and educational session for the kids with Ranger Kay, at the visitors center. Then a great venture out on nice open hiking paths, while enjoying the wildlife and other hikers as well.

Peaceful park with stunning views. Also, the visitor center is awesome with educational materials and also the coolest stuffed animals for your kids or for anyone!!

Nice visitor center. Walking trials and over look that is handicap accessible. My husband saw a prairie rattle snake on the trail to the cliff so keep your eyes open.

Nice views over the valley. Trails are in good condition. Visitor center was closed when we visited, no problem parking, but limited lot.

Nice trails, but steep! Beautiful views and a very informative, hands-on Visitors Center at the top. Friendly staff.

Nice hike. And an amazing view town

Good place for a short walk with your dogs or just for the good views. Lots of really nice well taken care of pathways. Although some ice removal on some areas is definitely needed in winter. Last time I went (about a week ago) the ice was an inch or two thick in some spots along the main trails. But overall one of the best spots in Kalispell to go and get some sunshine.

A great place to go for short or long hikes. Amazing views over the valley. The level of difficulty is very low on most trails, and they are all connected and easy to navigate with clearly marked signs. Will most definitely be returning for more hiking adventures with the kiddos.

We enjoy this park SO MUCH! They offer several kids/adult education classes (most free!) To learn about the outdoors and the wildlife in the park. The visitor facility is always tidy and a great stop to check out for locals and travelers! The only "downfall" was one of the classes we joined in on was a new ranger from out of state was teaching about local vegetation and edible resources you can find in our forests. However- the reason I mention she was not local is I found most questions we had she either Googled or did not know. I don't know how their program training works but she may have felt more confident with training prior to leading the group. Otherwise all the classes we have attended have been wonderful !

Very Close to Kalispell, Easy Access Trails and a Small Education Center.
The access road is easy to navigate. Parking is out front of the Education Center.
Inside is a small but quaint store with local huckleberry foods and cute toys for sale. There is a small education center where you can walk around and see animals and interactive exhibits. There is a classroom where they hold instructional programs.
There is a wonderful nearly panoramic view of Kalispell from the main trail. From here you can continue on down the hill to other walking trails or walk back to your car.

To start with the obvious, the views are pretty awesome no matter the time of day. And secondly, it's a very easy hike considering you can drive to, basically, the top and park. If one chose, you could park at the bottom and hike all the way to the top. This isn't too strenuous of a hike either, but this being Google maps and all, it could get difficult for the hard to move around crowd.
At the top, whether you've chosen to drive or hike up, is a visitor center. It has all the usual, wheelchair parking, restrooms, and other facilities. I do believe it's available for rent, or reservations of some sort, since my mother and brother were wed there. (NO, NOT TO EACH OTHER, C'MON FOLKS!) You'd have to check with them for sure.
I'm any event, it's worth the trip if you find yourself looking for something too do that's close to the Kalispell area, and don't wanna spend any cash. 👍
The Conrad Mansion Museum, built in 1895 and now fully restored, offers guided tours by period-dressed guides. It is a significant part of Kalispell's history and boasts beautiful gardens ideal for picnics or leisurely walks. The mansion's Christmas tour is especially enchanting due to its stunning decorations every year. Inside the house are original pieces from clothing to cookware and electrical appliances.
Fascinating place with original furniture, clothing and toys. The guided tour is very worthwhile.

The place is fantastic. What a beautiful house and the story of Mr Conrad was awesome. To have fought in the war of the states and then made two fortunes. 9 million dollars back in the 1800,s WOW

We took the guided tour. It was amazing. Original everything inside the house, from clothing and jewelry to cookware and electrical appliances. I wish they had offered group rates, we went with a family of 5. It was a bit pricey.

Conrad Mansion is a historic site in Kalispell that is a well maintained museum. While impressive on the outside, it is even more impressive on the inside. It has high-end architectural features, quality wood and had 'modern day conveniences' for it's time. Lots of beautiful woodwork. You get pulled back in time into the life of the Conrad family. It isn't uncommon for there to a cheaper day annually for locals. They also have events around Halloween and Christmas.

The Conrad mansion is a beautiful piece of Kalispell's history and their gardens are great for a picnic or a small stroll. They've redone their gardens recently and they did a beautiful job. I've been on their tours a few times too which are all really interesting. Their Christmas tour is especially magical since the mansion is decorated beautifully evey year. My husband and I actually got married there so you could say we're a little biased!

Lovely tour, helpful and knowledgeable staff, and amazing mansion/museum. I’ve done several mansion tours in the west and this house was stunning! I loved the real artifacts and family stories that have been kept alive. I would like to see more info on the ground/architecture though. Thanks!

Wonderful mansion and nice reading about the family's history when walking through it. The mansion is very well taken care of, the caretaker and the rest of the staff do a fantastic job. This is a must see historic site.

This building is a mansion, an architectural master piece with historical significance to the city of Kalispell. Spacious, lovely green grass and well maintained. I couldn't enter because I missed the time of tour of the building. It's affordable and their staff are friendly and courteous. Parking is on the street so try to arrive early.

Amazing! We did the docent tour. Don't waste your money on the self guided tour. The Docent was so knowledgeable and personable. Don't miss this Kalispell attraction!

Interesting historical home with unusual features. Look for the secret tiny doors built into the wall under the main staircase. Fun story. We took a self-guided tour but overheard the tailend of a guided tour. Guided tour would add to the experience. Check out the Faerie Steps nearby (search GPS) and how they are associated with the Conrad family. Photos are allowed without flash. I don't want to give away all the surprises but will show where to find the secret doors.

Blacktail Mountain Ski Area
Ski resort
Nature & Parks
Skiing area surrounded by national forest features 26 runs, a lodge, restaurant & rental services.
This was our first trip to Blacktail and it didn’t disappoint. Most notable are the employees. We drove straight through from Wisconsin and were greeted by the smiling face of Rickie at the ticket window. Although all the employees were friendly, Tim, located at the entrance to the Olympic Lift, was positive, motivating and complimentary to all the guests. It’s so refreshing to see employees engaged in their job. An added plus was the awesome view and being able to grab a table and bring our lunch into the lodge.
Corene Prah — Google review
Great skiing and great views. Conditions were excellent and the trails were well groomed at the beginning of the day. Fast and efficient check in and we were out on the slopes in under 15 minutes. Has a decent snack/cafeteria. Only negatives were parking is probably inadequate on a weekend and the lifts are pretty basic for a western US ski location. There are way fewer tourists than whitefish mountain though so I prefer coming here.

The guys at the Rental shop were so nice to me today on March 10 Thursday. The bottom of my pole fell off and I wasn’t be able to plant my pole when I did a turn …..it just kept sliding. They fixed it for me and when I offered to give them some money they said oh no we would not take any money. They said this is Blacktail!!!I thought that was so sweet. I really appreciated the help. Before I even started skiing one of the guys from the rental shop helped me put my ski boots on which is always so difficult for an older person. I just love Blacktail. Thank you.

Fantastic family oriented ski mountain. Great vibe and fun atmosphere. If you’re looking for a smaller resort without the crowds then this is the spot. Also kind of cool that you’d drive to the top of the mountain so you ski down to the lifts.
Jason Pelucca — Google review
Not a large ski area but the snow has been good, food is relatively affordable, and employees are friendly and helpful.
Tim W — Google review
Probably the worst part about this mountain is that you can’t use your family friend pass (comes with your season pass) if they’re out of your age group. My boyfriend is out of my “age group range” and we were slapped with an $80 lift ticket. I could’ve went to big mountain for that price 🙄. I think that’s the worst rule and you’re ruining potential marketing opportunities for that. Another thing is they don’t give refunds if they haven’t been open due to snow for more than a month. I understand the lack of snow was not your fault, but because you’re not even willing to partially refund for all that missed time, this will be the last time I buy a season pass from blacktail. It’s not the mountain itself, but the terrible rules humans put on the mountain.
Sky Scheller — Google review
My son and I had a great time and enjoyed the slopes here. The lifts were struggling to keep running with temperatures around -14 and below so we got to chop it up with some good folks at the bottom of Olympic around the fire pit. Beautiful place and not too crowded. Maybe it was just the cold but we will definitely return.

My daughter and I rented skiis on Saturday and were so surprised at the wonderful difference in customer service at Blacktail and a different resort. The employees were so happy to make sure everything fit well ,and took extra pains to ensure it did! Others in our party also said the same. Thanks for helping us have a good time. Also the skiis and boots performed and fit better than another place!

My wife and I recently spent two days skiing Blacktail Mountain Ski Area, a sister resort to our home resort Mission Ridge near Wenatchee, Wa. The staff was friendly, welcoming and engaging. Despite an El Nińo season the runs were groomed to perfection and skied amazingly. Lodge facilities were comfortable with a great brown bag area for families and a great restaurant bar with excellent staff, food and drink. The home made chili made daily was off the chart. I highly recommend a visit to this down to earth ski mountain with a relaxed vibe and stunning views.

Rising college-age stars perform in popular Broadway musicals at this summer stock theater.
In full disclosure before I review, my daughter is a cast member. We travelled to see her perform in all four shows. My husband and I kept saying to each other after every show "...no one is going to believe us back home when we tell them how absolutely professional and amazing these shows are". Our family has seen a good bit of theatre over the last 5 years (and paid much more for tickets) and are so incredibly impressed with the quality of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse shows that we just saw. The choreography was top-notch! Vocals absolutely stellar! Transitions were seamless. The live musicians were excellent. Also, I am not sure when/if I have ever seen better acting! Drowsy Chaperone was hysterical...the whole audience was laughing most of the time. Joseph was a delight on many levels. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was simply beautiful. Mama Mia was so great that we were still singing the songs in the car on the way home.
I will most certainly follow the careers of many of these actors to watch for their inevitable successes professionally!

We had a wonderful time watching Elf. They need to have roped lines for waiting in line though or some sort of organization. We went in the door thinking we had to exchange our on line tickets as that's the notification we got but found out we didn't. We were waiting for our daughter to park and join up with us & just stood inside. We saw the lady selling tickets say something so I went over to see what she said, she basically told us the line was in one spot (the lobby was PACKED) so NO ONE coming in knew where the line was, and that we were ALL crowding. Well if that's the case the solution would be to have some direction before it gets to that point in the lobby. It's winter folks no one wants to wait out in the cold. Other than that it was so festive & a great show. I would love to help out if you need.....

This is a wonderful playhouse! The actors are incredible! It's professional level quality! So excited to watch Mamma Mia this year, they did a performance a couple years back & it was hilarious!!! This place is awesome, and I can't watch to watch the plays this summer! Who needs to watch a movie, when you can watch a live performance... standing ovation, & lots of applause for Bigfork Summer Playhouse :)

I like the feel of the place, it was nice seeing the shows. They need to fire the old lady at the front. $72 over the course of two days, and she was crotchety and angry both times.

This is a local Bigfork gem! Summer actors are amazing! The are from all over and extremely talented. Winter brings the Children's Playhouse with the very talented and dedicated local kids! If you get a chance, buy tickets, sit back and enjoy!

A taste of Broadway and West End. Literally. Incredibly fitting to the charming setting that is main street BigFork. I will definitely be visiting this place frequently when we come down
We saw Guys and Dolls. Which isn't my favorite play but the talented cast members made it very enjoyable and entertaining.

I love the heart and soul that goes into keeping live theater alive at the Big Fork play house. Its an amazing jewel that should be attended often!
Andrea Hayden — Google review
They put on great productions! Reasonably priced tickets, great quality, and I enjoy how roomy the house is--it's easy to get past people in the same row without feeling like you're about to fall in someone's lap! Plenty of stalls in the women's bathroom (ladies, you know how it is!) and the lobby of the theatre has some really cool artwork in it.
Down-to-earth hotel featuring a spa & hot springs pools, plus a restaurant & an espresso bar.
Old basic hotel in a hippy town. If you like places out of the past, then you will love this. Picture a hotel room out of the old western TV shows. People are great. Inside tubs and 4 pools outside, one a large warm swimming pool. Live Music on weekends sometimes with dancing. Food service varies but there is usually soup available in small lobby where you will share a table or newspaper in your bathing suit or bathrobe. Love it or not, you will be in the center of times past.

I made a reservation a month in advance, when my party arrived they said I had cancelled my reservation and had no vacancy. I explained I didn’t cancel it and if I did why did I drive 2 hours to check in. They use index cards for their registrations and apparently didn’t verify any information before cancelling the reservation. They didn’t apologize or offer compensation. I have been going there every year for 29+ years. I will not return. The place is more run down and over crowed. We like to give to the small town of hot springs unfortunately we won’t any longer.
Bren E — Google review
I so wish I could give this place a better review, but want others to know about staying here.
I had a good experience making reservations. I did read the reviews and wasn't scared by the ones complaining about the smell (mineral hot springs sometimes smell like rotten eggs), or even the age of the facilities. I'm a Montanan and am no stranger to older lodging and less modern amenities.
We were a little put off by the fact it is smack dab in the middle of town. We were further dismayed by the actual appliance junkyard we had to drive by to get to our cabin.
The cabin was what we expected.
The first night we tried to go to the pools and they were full. It seemed like the people were mostly in one party and there wasn't a comfortable place in either if the hot pools to sit. I was a little annoyed that I wasn't told there was such a big group when I made reservations.
We decided to make the best of it and stayed in and played games. The town of Hot Springs is mostly full of good people. I mentioned the full pools to some people in town and most of them said the people were probably employees and their friends.
We did go soak after coffee. It was fine except some regular soakers were a bit... odd....and continued to try and engage us in conversations that weren't appropriate or comfortable.
We went to soak again at night. There were a few people who were employees. One of them kept yelling to another one to let his dog out of his van. Several loose dogs were running around the outside of the pool enclosure while their people tried to manage them from the pools. Not exactly relaxing.
We also love dogs and brought ours but walked them away from the pools just like the sign said...
One of the reviews mentioned it being creepy and having many creepy people around and I have to agree. I've traveled all over alone - nearly every large city in the country- and I would never come here as a solo female traveler. It's possible that the owners only want locals. And they must because as full-price paying customers, we were not acknowledged, and hospitality is not even a word that's known here.
I suggest waiting and paying more at Quinn's or Chico or Fairmont. That's certainly what we will do.
Leslie Oneill — Google review
The best natural hot spring water. We’ve been enjoying the healing water for over 3 years and it’s a pleasant soak every time we visit. There are optional private tubs inside the hotel when outdoor pools are busy.
Liliya — Google review
I believe this is my first time giving 1 Star! Eeesh, so this was an experience to say the least. And no I am not uppity or was expecting a spa like experience or anything. I was expecting clean, and didn’t get that.
I guess this place has been around forever and is sort of a local institution. I’m not sure what kind of codes a hotel / hot springs has to pass when it’s a commercial place like this but I cannot imagine it passes.
First off, when you walk into the hotel lobby it’s filthy and people are traipsing through with bare feet, dripping bathing suits, and some just sitting in the lobby like that. The only way to and from the pools is through the lobby to the outside. So the salt and grime is getting tracked in too.
Then you proceed into the changing area and walk along sopping wet carpet that was probably laid when the place was built. There’s several stalls with grimy bathtubs and rusty pipes. This is where you can bathe or rinse off after the outdoor pools. Proceed along and you’ll find change rooms that have one bathroom stall and one shower stall to service the many people waiting around. The place doesn’t look like it gets cleaned more than once a day if that. It’s crowded and there’s no limit to how many people can pack in anywhere.
Make your way back out to the lobby to the pools across the parking lot and they are filthy. Don’t sit near an intake filter or you’ll just spend your time watching hair and scrum flow in and out of the pool. The top pool is the hottest and cleanest but even that was not clean, and it’s very small. The source pool is across the grass and mud to a hut and it’s the hottest of course but the size of a bathtub.
It probably didn’t help that a few days earlier we’d been at a very clean and well arranged hotel / hot spring so in comparison this was pretty atrocious. But seriously it’s been 2 months and we still talk about it!
Oh well, we enjoyed a good laugh with friends and will never forget the experience!

Phenomenal experience once again and I have been going to the Symes through out the years and I shall never tire of the trip to get there. The moment I drive in to the parking lot I am already unwinding. As usual I'm always find something new about the Symes and it's historical past.

We only live about an hour away, but still love to come here to get away. It's a bit more rustic and vintage than most, but we like it. Some of the cabins aren't as upgraded, but if you like the old original vintage that's great. Plus they are more private. The apartments are great, roomy, full kitchens as well, and they have a front porch area. We've stayed with and without kids, in rooms and in cabins, it's very accommodating. There is a diner in the hotel, or you can walk downtown. Our next stay will be in one of the bigger cabins with the family. If you go onto their website they have a list of rooms and cabins with specific features and prices on each. They really are all very different. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

My family and I went to do a last minute soaked normally the pools are ok….. the pools were completely packed with a lot of kids which I normally don’t care but they were being loud and splashing. Not very relaxing and the pools were not HOT! After looking in the water I realized they were not very clean. And a lot of stuff floating in the water. We were there for about 15 minutes and left. With all the money they make I don’t know why they try to make the place better. They can do better this place isn’t the same place it was 5 years ago and it’s sad. One of my favorite places isn’t my favorite any more
The rooms are completely out of date and dirty and falling apart. The beds and couches were from the 80s and just plain dirty. I felt like I would get bed bugs there. (No I didn’t ) the pools are nice but for the amount we paid it should be better rooms. I will never stay there again. There is way better places in town for the same price if not cheaper. Go visit the pools, stay somewhere else.

Pools are great, people are friendly and the bed was comfortable. Hotel is as described, straight out of the 40s, as is the town. Rooms are dated but clean. Couple of heads up, no Verizon wireless service in town, just At&t. Also Wi-Fi is available but you have to go to the main lobby to get it. There is a lounge with comfy chairs and fireplace so not a big issue. Will be back
Ron Kidder — Google review
Good: Great location, close to downtown food & drinks, room was spacious & clean, and the awesome bed/ mattress. Large LED TV with Dish service... fridge & microwave
Bad: lots of people crouded into a small soaking tub with kids spashing around, not a place to just relax... tub in the room didn't have enough hot water available to use either...
Reservation was confirmed but wrong at chek-in... for the price, we'll look at other options next time...

Definitely a A-OK stay. Free coffee and TV, dogs could be let in the hotel lobby. Water was very relaxing. The downside to the hot springs was the lower tub was turning green by the half hour. Food was delicious too!

Old building. The hotel room had a bathroom and bathtub. Bathtub still had a wet towel in it when we checked in. Wifi is super spotty. ALL the water smells and tastes like egg water. The so-called hot spring at this place is nothing more than a glorified hot tub. Would not recommend.
Ivan — Google review
What a fun experience! The water was HOT and my skin felt so smooth afterward! We didn’t do the private soaking tub but I took a pic! Would be a cool experience.
Hanna Harrison — Google review
Upon first arriving my mom and I joked about it being a hostel murder movie scene. It didn’t get much better when walking into the building. The hallways aren’t well lit. The walls need fixed. The local addicts hang out in the mineral pool from the second they open till the second they close. The hot pool is always packed and it didn’t seem any of the water was really filtered. There were small rocks thrown in the big pool and leaves and sediment floating in the water. I understand it is a historical building and is very old but it doesn’t seem like it could possibly be up to code. The town of hot springs itself is a very beautiful town though. Lots of great scenery and wildlife throughout. If I ever come back to the Hot Springs area I will find different sleeping accommodations.

No parking for guests staying at the hotel, we had to park on the street. Check-in was horrible. The woman at the desk did not provide us with any directions to our room, pool hours, and no information whatsoever concerning our stay. When asked where to find our room she gave simple directions with a rather curt attitude. When asked about what time the kids in the pool usually clear out she was rude and said when it closes. I had to ask for my key when she didn't remember who we were upon check-in after 10 minutes of waiting for our room to be cleaned. She was friendly to family guests versus those who are kidless which is rather biased and we were there for a romantic evening. Will not be staying here again nor coming to use the pools again.

Went with 7 girls for a bachelorette trip on a Friday- Sunday. Started with losing a reservation, but they had a way to accommodate us. Checked in and found out there wasn’t any hot water in the apartment, which was fine with us as we had a cabin for Friday night that had hot water. The pools were way over crowded and not the clean blue water that you see on their website so we didn’t get in. Saturday morning there was a massive water leak in the apartment coming through the ceiling into the living room. Couch and chair had to be removed and a shampooer was needed to remove the water off the floor. We were planning to stick it out until they moved us from cabin 5 to “R2”. Let’s just say that it was so bad that we were thinking we would just sleep in the car. Owner was VERY rude and told us we need to understand that it’s an old hotel. Apparently general cleanliness doesn’t come with old hotels. We got on air bnb and found a house with much better accommodations for the same price we paid for the 1 night at Symes.

Cabin was absolutely disgusting!!! Had a junk yard to drive through just to get to our "private newly renovated cabin." Once we got to our cabin i walked through and immediately found; food left in microwave, oven never cleaned, dust bunny colony under bed, soap and other substances dripping from shower windowsill, this is just to start. People soliciting for drugs in tubs and around the property, man claiming to be the attendants husband lingering and rude in the lobby. Restaurant food was burnt and dry. People drunk and fighting around the premises. I can't describe how gross this place is and they were excited for the "newly renovated cabin" we were in so we shouldn't "have any issues." (I had picture proof and nothing was done about it!!!)
We won't be back and highly recommend shutting down and cleaning this place up in sooo many ways!!!

Our experience at Symes was not so great. We booked this trip in advance for a bachelorette party. We woke up Saturday morning to a huge leak in the ceiling . The response we got from the owner was “you have to understand this is an old hotel”. Although they cleaned it up, they could have compensated us for what we woke up to. Completely ruining our morning. Please do not stay here. Not worth the money.

It was my first time visiting Symes and will come back again. The Hotel is very dated with lots of historical touches. Don't go expecting luxury but instead a trip back in time. It feels a bit like you're in an old western movie. The place is about as clean as it can be for the age and lack of upgrades. However it's very charming and once you acclimate to your surroundings you get into the groove. The pools are nice and hot. The pools can vary in the number of guests who are soaking at any one time. We never felt like it was too crowded. The town of Hotsprings is also historic and has some fun gems to discover. It's worth walking around to explore. It's a poor community and it shows but go there with an open mind and you will enjoy it much better.

If I could give a zero strar I would. Very dirty pools they clean pools once a week. Very overcrowded. All of my family smelt like a condom after soaking will NEVER go here again.
Big Arm, located within the Flathead Lake State Park, offers visitors a vast recreational area to enjoy fishing, swimming, boating, hiking and camping. The park features three affordable yurts that guests can stay in along with tent pads for additional guests. While staying at one of the yurts or campsites along the lake's shore, visitors can appreciate the beautiful scenery and make use of amenities like fire rings and picnic tables.
Beautiful!! Breathe taking views. No electricity but they have fresh water spouts, clean bathrooms, clean showers, firewood and ice. Many spots are shaded with perfect cover while some are more open! Camp hosts are so nice and knowledgeable about the area and the park! I will come here again anyway, thumbs up!!!

Clean and easy to access. Boat launch and dock made getting in and out to the lake easy. Camp site was right on the water. Beautiful place to see and play.

Tent camped here and absolutely loved the site - right on the lake, close to the bathroom but still private. Fire ring and picnic table. Great opening in the trees to sit right by the lake.

I camped here for the night and had a great time. Dog friendly. Just make sure to leash them or you will be told too. I had a lead for my dog and a leash. The camp host I spoke to first was super nice. Then the other camp host came by to introduce herself and her husband. They both just wanted to make sure I was getting settled in. It’s hard to find this with people. At least for me it is and I would definitely come back. Beautiful spot.

I stayed in one of the 3 yurts they have. It was very clean. I would suggest bringing another heater during the cooler nights. They also include a tent pad next to the yurt for guest. The Yurts are $50 to $60 per night plus a $10 reservation fee. This is a great deal to stay withing walking distance to Flathead lake.

No hookups or dumpsite. Water is available but not at every site. Restrooms and showers available. Every campsite has a picnic table and firepit. Very clean and quiet. Highly recommend reserving a spot online as they fill up fast.

Loved this park. It offered quiet views of the lake and an easy place to launch boats. We stayed in a Yurt here and cannot recommend it more. If you can book one, you should. Check in was easy and inside the Yurt there was lots of light, fans, heaters and a pole to open the top of the dome. You also can open windows from the outside. Spacious decks are also around the domes for enjoying the view. Bunk beds and tables inside the Yurts too. Dog allowed inside 2/3 of the Yurts. Bathroom facilities were pit and well maintained. We were too late in the season for running water (9/28). Loved the Yurt, loved the park, if you have time you should stay here!

It was a lot fun visiting here! There was so much to see and it felt like we only scratched the surface. Most of the exhibits were very well organized although there were a few that were less cohesive.
Would love to come back again!

Super cool museum. The only thing is that it's not very accessible. Most buildings have stairs and no ramps, and are cramped so people in wheel chairs or with strollers etc can't really view most of the museum. Besides that it's amazing. You can interact with alot of the items in the museum.

After glacier national park and Flathead lake this museum was ranked high on our must see for our Montana trip. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. In one day it's impossible to see the entire museum but we only had a week. Thousands of great old items and wonderful metal art . Spend some time, make a donation. This place should live on forever. The amount of love and work that went into building it and continues to keep it going is astounding. 5 stars, the best. Don't miss it.

Very unique museum. If you want to see the whole place you need several hours. We were short on time but really enjoyed seeing everything we could fit in. The owners are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the things in their museum.

During my weekend getaway to Montana this museum was the highlight of my trip. ♥️ The owners were extremely welcoming. There were so many amazing things there. When I go back to MT I’ll have to visit again. My favorite things were being able to sit in the helicopter, the 1912 juke box from Chicago, and the old passenger Indian motorcycle. I love that they have things you can play with and interact with. Absolutely worth a visit!

Not everyone visit this place when traveling to Montana, but i must say this is a DO NOT MISS spot. This place is 100 times better than any famous American history museum. Ill be making a few social media videos about this place because i really want everyone to know more about it. It deserves more relevance. Worth every penny and i only regret not having a few more hours to spend here. Definitely an important stop for anyone traveling between Bozeman and Glacier National Park

I was absolutely amazed by the amount of stuff this museum has on display. 40 buildings with everything you can imagine from the past. Definitely a must see and inexpensive to get in. I added 50 pictures. I took about 200.

This is by far the best museum I have ever visited, and I've been to a lot. Its not as polished as some, but it has its own flavor and you can't beat how interractive you can be with it. There is something for everyone, and the sheer diversity of what you can find is staggering. You can stay there for hours and you'll still only really get a rudimentary vibe for everything. I spent way too much time dinking around in the little UFO play area. Do not miss all the interractive gizmos there. I loved it. 10 bucks for an adult made me feel like a highway robber by the time I'd left

This is a truly interesting place. It's going to be a bit difficult to describe.
The scope of this museum's exhibits is truly extensive. There are exhibits and artifacts covering nearly every aspect of the history of how people lived and worked covering the early 19th century to the mid 20th century.
Out back, --- okay this is a very specific reference --- but it's almost like Valkenvania from the (bad) film Nothing But Trouble, but in a good way. There are a huge number of mechanical artifacts, some restored, some in their natural condition, some turned into welded found-object art and sculptures.
Some of the exhibits and artifacts are interactive, and these are clearly marked with signage, and I'm sure kids will love this. Even as an adult I enjoyed sitting in the Huey helicopter, putting my hands on the controls and looking around trying to make sense of the panels.
Many of the exhibits and recreations are finely curated, however there is also a large portion of the collection which is more "raw" -- personally I enjoy that. Overall the museum is on the lighter side with regard to the "interpretive" aspect of curation - to me, at least, in many ways this is more interesting than every single thing being labeled and explained - but one should enter not expecting signage on each and every thing as if it were the Smithsonian.
Got a chance to briefly chat with the founder while I was there, and he is a friendly and fascinating guy, and offered some suggestions of other museums we should see while on our trip!
Overall, this place is a can't-miss. I doubt you'll find anything else like it in the nation, and am positive there is something for literally everyone here.

This has been the best museum I've ever been to. We just spent 4 and a 1/2 hours exploring and were so excited to be there. Alot of American history and interactive, we got to sit in alot of vehicles and ring bells and all sorts! I can't recommend this enough, this would have to be at the top of my favourite days we've had in America & Canada (in 8 months) and we nearly drive straight past it and missed it. So much stuff but it's all so cool and interesting and so many different exhibitions. Some of my favourites were the old car sheds, the diner, the fur shed, the army vehicles. There's so much to see and for all of $10usd ea. The owners were greeting people and were genuinely interested in us. Thank you for creating this place, it looks like a lot of handwork, effort, time and money has gone into this Museum!

We have driven past the museum so many times, but never when it was open! Today it was! My husband (a history buff) was so excited and loved sharing and showing our son all the different memorabilia. Now, touring the inside of the building with a 3 year old....not a good time, but once we got outside...it was a new world! Both my kids loved it, my husband loved it and he is already planning to go back without the kids! Lol

Visited here with my wife, her brother, his wife and their teenage son. This is definitely an eclectic, roadside museum. It is WAY larger than it looks, with a ton of small buildings behind the large road facing building and each one packed floor-to-ceiling with all sorts of things historic, military or antique. There are a lot of motorcycles, guns, military vehicles and aircraft. There are also a lot of antique household items. My brother-in-law and his son especially enjoyed the large building of blacksmith materials. There were some interesting items to me (like the helicopters, some gigantic rifles, and -strangely- the old dilapidated carnival ride), but I got overwhelmed pretty quickly with how much there was to see. Honestly, a lot of times I wondered why something was displayed. The largest buffalo killed in Montana made sense, tons of spark plugs not as much. It was relatively pleasant though, but would benefit from some heavy handed selective curating. I wouldn't recommend this for small children, as there is not a lot to catch their interest that they can interact with safely. Half our group really liked it. The museum, as you might guess by the name, has a strong patriotic, constitutional theme. The overall repeated message is that freedom must be paired with responsibility.

Surprisingly large museum. I have been there many times and I always find new things. Every inch has some hidden or not so hidden historical treasure.
I helped for a handful of years in the blacksmith shop for the living history days. That's always a good time.

Hands down my favorite museum outside of the Wright Patterson. Obviously comparing the two is out of the question, but the fact remains; this is my second favorite of all time. The admission price is a bargain as well. I found myself throwing money in the donation bins out of sheer thankfulness of keeping so many awesome things from becoming scrap.
The Miracle Of America has more rare items outside in the dirt than some museums have on display. Although many displays are crude, or hastily put together, do not mistake that for second class. The sheer number of items simply could not be properly displayed. While the displays could have been condensed and the mishmash avoided, that would have meant never seeing some of the neatest artifacts of our history. These "extras" are normally locked away in storage. However, that misses the point. I WANT to see 2-3 versions of the same piece, in different states of use and abuse out in the open. I do NOT want to only see single, perfectly restored, versions behind glass and under blinding lights. The rawness shows the real history of the items. That smell, some may find as unappealing, is just another sensory input to bring me back to the time periods where these items were born. Each fleck of paint missing a story unto itself.
Anyone that is enthusiastic about anything mechanical, as I am, you will have the time of your life finding all the seemingly forgotten treasures in every exhibit. I, more than a dozen times, found myself gasping at the sight of something so rare I had only ever read about it. Eagle eyes will be rewarded with many one-of-a-kind treasures. Give yourself several hours to take a fraction of all of it in.
We did the 5 hour trail ride. They take great care of their mules/horses. Our guide was great and even made us lunch. I would definitely do this again!

My son and I took the half day Glacier Overlook ride with Swan Mountain Outfitters through the beautiful National Forest near Glacier National Park from their East West Glacier location. Caity was our guide and she made the ride very memorable and was always willing to stop the ride to make saddle and stirrup adjustments for the less experienced riders like my son and me. It just so happened that we were the only riders booked for our time slot, so we basically had a private trip. The ride took us up to a cliff edge that provided a beautiful view of Glacier National Park and the surrounding areas. Caity was very knowledgeable about the area, including the foliage and names/backgrounds of the various mountains. We were able to sit out on the cliff and soak in the beautiful nature around us. She even picked some huckleberries for us to sample. The ride was at a comfortable pace and included some inclines and declines adding just the right amount of difficulty for inexperienced riders like us! In talking with our guide, we learned how Swan Mountain Outfitters looks after their horses ensuring they are in good physical condition while not being overworked. While I didn’t have the opportunity to go horseback riding with another outfit, I believe I made a great choice and would definitely book another trip, possibly an all day ride ending with a cowboy cookout !

The worst customer service experience! My friend was visiting from out of state for a week, and I wanted to show her all that Montana has to offer! So, our schedule was pretty tight. When booking our horseback ride, we knew we would not have time that day to take advantage of going to Glacier Park so were going to schedule our horseback riding outside the park. However, the time we wanted was not available outside the park, but the lady taking our reservation assured us that since we would be horseback riding in the park, we would not have to pay entrance into the park. However, when arriving to the park we had to pay a $35.00 vehicle entrance fee. Additionally, when making our reservation we asked for direction to the corral and the lady ensured us it was very easy to find. We were to enter West Glacier Park and within 2 miles of the entrance we would see the corral on the left. This was not the case! You must turn left down a road to locate the corrals. Since we were looking for a corral not a road we were late arriving and could not call to let them know or ask for better direction as there was no cell service. Once getting to the corral I was able to get cell service and saw I had a voicemail from the corral stating since we were late, they were leaving without us! We ran up to the corral only to find out that no one had left. The horse were not even present! They were still waiting for the horses to return from the scheduled ride before us.! So therefore, the voicemail stating they were going to leave without us unwarranted. Since the horses were not even present everyone had to wait 2 hours after their scheduled ride time before being able to get on a horse!! Like I mentioned previously we had a pretty tight schedule so this 2 hour wait ensured that we were unable to make it to our next scheduled activity. When I called to explain my experience, the company was unapologetic and just kept making excuses like “well they were probably late because it was raining!!” and there was not a cloud in the sky that day!! I do not recommend this outfitter unless you are willing to experience terrible customer service and a very hectic and chaotic experience during what is supposed to be your vacation.

Do not book a elk hunt with this company!
My wife booked a archery elk hunt and we are avid white tail hunter and claim to know absolutely nothing about elk hunting, that being said there are a few thing that are quite common is animal movement, be in the woods before sun rise and don’t come out till after dark we returned every day with hours of sunlight left to hunt one day they where headed down the mountain back to camp at 3 in the afternoon. Let me back up for one sec. My wife also paid a extra 1500 for a one on one guide in witch 2 of the days there we didn’t have a guide at all! When we said something to him he did some speaking with his guides and agreed to give us back 750 to which we have not seen! Look there’s just way to much to write there was 0 preseason scouting done regardless of what snippy little comments he come back here with. The guides though they where super nice guys to have a beer with do not take your hunt or your money seriously felt like a camping trip not a elk hunt I’m just trying to help the next archer don’t do it! There are solid outfitters in the area when your at the airport or in town just ask a few ppl about them it’ll be clear! Now I will say the cook and the food where really good and the scenery was awesome but we didn’t go there for any of those thing if your there to hunt forget about it save your money you would be way way better off doing it your self! I promise!!

We were supposed to take the 2 hour trail ride but I'm not sure that's what it actually was. I was so focused on the well being of the horse I barely noticed scenery. My horse almost fell 3 times due to the steep and rocky "trail". Overall, I just felt bad for the horses the entire ride. I do not recommend.

Met up at base camp at around 3000’. Rode 12 miles in about 5 hours into the Swan Valley to the upper camp around 5400’.
Upper camp was a beautiful camp nestled amongst the tall pines with the lion creek running through camp. Our source of water for the week coming from the melting snow still covering the swan mountain range. Camp was made up of 6 wall tents and a camp dining tent. Our tent had two cots which would be our home for the week. The food far exceeded my expectations. Kris was the camp cook and she was fantastic. We had restaurant quality breakfasts and dinners every day. And her packed lunches were just as good on our rides.
We took two rides. One up through the lion creek pass into Bob Marshall. That ride was about two miles and took us to 7000’. After crossing the pass we found two beautiful mountain lakes. Swimming in the lakes was a great experience. So clear and cool. From this point we looked out across a vast wilderness.
The second ride took us up towards the peak of swan mountain. Couldn’t make the peak. Rode to about 7500’ in only 1 1/2 miles. Very steep up and back. Becky and I hiked another 500’ in elevation to get to some snow. Where we made snowman in august. The wildflowers up there where everywhere. Thousands of them. Despite being in the most populated area of the lower 48 for both brown and black bears we didn’t see any. We did see a few elk and had mullies come into camp one morning. Our guides were incredible. Matt and Kyle. So knowledgeable and provided us with a great experience. The pictures and videos just don’t do this trip justice. And the horses were so incredible. We rode trials that barely had enough room for all four of their feet. And the way they ascended and descended those trails was amazing. Some so step we had to lead them down. The stars went on forever.
We covered about 30 miles in 4 days and went from 3500’-8000’ and back. Such an appreciation for our horses. Mine was ‘hammer’. I cannot begin to explain how great sitting in the saddle feels and riding those trails. Montana I will be back. And if your looking for a top notch once in a lifetime experience visit Swan Mountain Outfitters. Best in the business.

Incredible trip! Took the 3 day pack trip ~15 miles in. Coming from Chicago, the views were breathtaking. The experience was rewarding. Although our group was comfortable in the outdoors based on previous camping, we had barely any riding experience prior to this. Don’t let that stop you if you were like us.
The guides (Nelson and Kevin) were informative, reaffirming, and listened. They took whatever concern you had seriously, and addressed it to ensure you were comfortable. It truly is your trip and what you want to do. Our camp cook, Stephanie, made fantastic meals, but we also found ourselves sitting at the table or riding the trails sharing stories with her. She was amazing.
The rides can be hard at times—very steep inclines/switchbacks. But, you need to and learn to trust your horse. They’re incredible animals—literal athletes in every sense—that the outfitters truly care for and you learn to truly respect/admire. The horses have done these trails hundreds of times, so you quickly learn to trust what you learn during your orientation, but more importantly, trust your horse when technical parts of the trail come in front.
Only negative/feedback I would give to SMO is to be more clear on tipping at the end of the trip. Although stated on the site and materials provided, it was still confusing at the end of the trip. All because we wanted to make sure we were compensating everyone appropriately for an amazing trip! Just caused a little frustration among the larger group but nothing to deter from this experience.
You’ll see views you would never be able to see any other way. You’ll experience new, sometimes challenging but always rewarding, things when it comes to the ride. And, you’ll make some friends along the way.
Recommending to all my friends/family. Thank you SMO! Will not forget this trip.

Our group of 5 had an amazing time on our 2 hour trail ride leaving from their corral in West Glacier. Roger and Ethan were great helping us get on our horses and doing the safety demonstration. We had a mix of experienced and brand new riders and they paired us great with our horses. Ethan was a great guide and pointed out plants and told stories about the trails we were on. The horses were all very well-mannered and enjoyable to ride. The views from the hike were also so beautiful and we all agreed it was the best experience anyone has had on horseback. 10/10 would recommend Swan Lake Outfitters to anyone!

We went on the half day ride to glacier overlook. We had a lot of fun! The horses are extremely mild mannered. I do believe they take into account your experience on horse assignments. I have been riding all of my life so they gave me a horse that needed to be in the back because he doesn't like having other horses behind him. But I didn't have any issues with him at all, he was a sweetheart. Our guide was awesome! He made sure to constantly keep an eye on us to make sure things were going okay. My friend rode who has very little to no experience and she had a lot of fun. This is fun for anyone.
The Bison Range Wildlife Refuge is a vast native prairie land that serves as a sanctuary for various wildlife species in Montana. Visitors can enjoy viewing bison, elk, pronghorn, deer, and mountain sheep up close through the 19-mile long Red Sleep Mountain Drive loop road. A visitor center and several trails are also available for exploration. Non-tribal members are required to pay an admission fee of around $15-20 per car to drive around the area.
Unbelievably cool place to go to see bison and just about every other species of wildlife Montana has to offer. I would definitely talk to the people of the visitor sent her first to see which direction you should take first because the park is fairly large. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed a leisurely drive on the longer of the two loops through the Bison Range, beginning about 1:30pm. $20/car. Just a few sightings on the first half, but a few gatherings of bison towards the end of the almost 2-hour drive. No getting out of the car. First section was a one-way road, then it was divided, though no visible markers. Just the kind staff gentleman who was making rounds backed up to inform us.
A pleasant way to see the bison. Saw a few deer as well, but no elk on our afternoon trek.
Highly recommend if you’ve never seen these beautiful creatures outside a zoo.

1) If you're really afraid of heights it might not be for you . It's a steep (at times) ride up a mountain 2) you'll definitely need a car wash afterwards. 3) it's a gravel road, so if you're picky about your car......4) It's INCREDIBLE! WORTH my fear of heights and we saw plenty of bison and an elk. Do it!

Our boat had high mounted seats with backs. I even had a small platform in front of my bow seat to stand on and fly cast for the rainbow trout that I caught. I'm a bit new to fly fishing and walked away from our day with a lot of new and valuable knowledge about river fishing and fly fishing in general.

Everyone was so nice and welcoming! The horses were beautiful and well taken care of! Would definitely do this again! Such a gorgeous trail ride next to the river!

On vacation in Coeur D’ Alene and we decided to drive over and do a private full-day rafting/fishing trip for the day. From the moment I booked Adventure Missoula was very communicative. They sent very detailed instructions on what to bring, how to get there and reminders/updates so we always felt on top of things. Once we arrived we met our guide, Jim. Jim was great: very hardworking, polite and knowledgeable. He had patience in spades for my family, who aren’t the best fishers in the world. He worked hard to make sure we had a great time and did a lot to teach us how to be better casters and where to look for fish in the future. The rafting part of the trip was beautiful and fun. It’s the best way to see the Glen Fork and Montana! I can’t recommend these guys enough.

We had an amazing time on the Clark Fork with this outfit, especially our guide Naomi. She was fun, safe, and helped make the day a special memory for myself, my wife, our 2 kids (8 and 11). We did the full day raft trip, and it was the highlight of our week in Montana/N Idaho. Great lunch, amazing views, and some serious fun (even though water wasn’t running too high, but was perfect for our crew)- Thanks to the entire staff and especially Naomi for the great times!
We had a great 2 days on the river with Montana River Guides. Mike, Caleb, Amy and Squid were amazing guides for our Rafting and River Boarding trips. They are not only professional and focus on safety, but are insanely fun people too.
And if you have done White Water Rafting and want to take your adventure to the next level, River Boarding is amazingly fun, and these guys will get you down the river in ways you've never imagined.
Go to Montana and meet this team, they rock!

We had an outstanding time on our trip this past week. River and Katie did an excellent job guiding us in what to do and providing history and information along the way. The scenery was beautiful. We stopped for dinner along the river and the food was delicious! Would definitely recommend Montana River Guides to anyone looking for a fun filled day!

Our Montana River Guide trip down the Clark Fork was the highlight to our Montana vacation. Our guide let us paddle some while we were going thru the rapids which was an awesome experience. Weather and sun on the morning trip made for some great pictures.

My family and I had an epic time rafting the Clark Fork river with Montana River Guides today. Our guide Caleb (pictured below) made sure we had a fun and memorable time blasting through gnarly rapids, relaxing on the lazy flats, and cliff-jumping into the river. The scenery is second to none and there a lot of eagles and ospreys flying around.
The lunch provided was delish (except for the rasberry-lime sparkling water—yuck). Lunch consisted of a bacon and turkey wrap, chips, a drink, and a cookie.
This was also a great trip for older children and adults. If you’re ever in Missoula during rafting season, book a trip with Montana River Guides.

What a fabulous morning was had by 6 ladies, 5 that had not gone floating before. Richard our guide was so kind and interesting that it made the experience even better. We are a group of ladies, friends from high school who get together each year to experience something new, chat, relax and just enjoy each other. Richard made this experience extra special and we are thankful to him. Thank you Montana River Guides for a memorable morning and experience.

We have taken many rafting trips over the years and hands down this was one of the best ones yet!!! We took a private full day rafting tour with river side picnic and couldn’t have had a better time!! Our guide set up the best lunch spread at the waterside including fresh fruit and veggie trays, salad, sandwiches, chips/salsa, and the best homemade cookies!!! We had many stops, chances to swim, small cliff jumping, and the most beautiful scenery!!! Shout out to Amy as being the most fun guide to our crazy “Billy Goat Cyrus” group from Texas!!! Request her and you won’t be disappointed!!!

Amazing guides, super fun times on the river, highly recommend!!
We just spent 2 days on the river with Montana River Guides & we couldn’t be happier about our experience!
Day 1 did a rafting trip down the river. Aimee & Quaid were the most fun & friendly guides for our adventure, filling the trip with excitement, guidance & plenty of jokes!
Day 2 we went for some river boarding! What a fun & immersive way to experience the river! This was a completely new experience for most of us and with Mike & Caleb as our guides we were in the best hands. They lead us safely through & did such a great job explaining how the river flows and what to watch for. We had a blast going head first through all the rapids & gliding along!
Can’t say enough good things about the 2 days & our guides! Can’t wait to come back & hit the river with them again!

All my summer visitors get a rafting trip on the Gorge with Montana River Guides, and they all say it was the highlight of their visit. In 15 years, I've never had a bad trip!
What impresses me most are the awesome people skills of the guides: they can manage a raft with young kids, a grandmother, and Eastern 'dudes' (the ones who don't want to keep their feet tucked), and turn us into a high-oars team before we hit the first rapids (we were the "Ice Cream Eagles"). I'm already recruiting unsuspecting family for next summer.

One of the best experience in the US was spending our Sunday with Montana River Guides! The crew was able to accommodate to over 60 of us on the YSEALI alumni tour and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our time on the river - Whitewater Rafting or Scenic Tour. Guides are 100% professionals who have fun with safety in mind. Highly recommend and must visit when you're in Montana. Thanks for the memories!

There were three of us over 60 year old gals on our trip. Our guide, Jack, was outstanding. We felt safe and secure under his care the whole time while having the time of our lives. The beautiful scenery and wildlife were a bonus to the incredible river with its rapids along with calm areas to relax & enjoy the ride. Top on my list of the other incredible things we did this summer.

My girls and I had an amazing time on a full day float with our guide Lane. Lots to see between rapids and Lane was on top of it all. The lunch stop is perfectly timed and make sure you take a dip in Fish Creek to cool off. Overall, the best company to go with rafting with. TJ and the rest of the guides were really helpful as we got suited up. You can’t go wrong with Montana River Guides! (Photo by Montana River Photography)

A special place to visit for a moment of quiet reflection.
Accessibility info and site description: There are several disabled parking spots available, but no protected van-accessible parking. (Turn into the property through the gate, the main parking area and public restroom will be to the right, continue driving straight to find the disabled parking area). The walking path is gravel, about the width of a sidewalk, with grass on either side. Near the entrance, there's a few pieces of wood that intersect the trail, coming up off the ground several inches (see photos). The trail is wider along the outer circle, and narrows as you follow the statues toward the center. At the center statue, there is a brick path, but this area was roped off when I visited in March 2022 (unsure if this is temporary). Without access to the brick path, there is only a very narrow dirt trail around this inner circle. There is an additional public restroom on the far side of the property near the pond and gift shop. There are no benches along the trails, or anywhere that I could see. The distance from the disabled parking area to the entrance of the Dharma wheel is around 350 feet, and another 200 feet to the center statue. I would estimate the total distance around the wheel to be about a quarter mile. There is no fee to visit, but they do accept donations.
This is such a unique, interesting, and peaceful place and I have enjoyed my visits over the years! Just a heads up to fellow disabled visitors: the gravel path is really difficult to traverse in a wheelchair, there is no snow removal from the path so it may not be accessible until spring, and there are no benches.

Such a beautiful museum. A perfect space that represents Buddha in their eyes of peace and serenity outside. For people to gently learn with the scriptures that have been written on the rocks and understand the equivalent piece that has been portrayed here. Absolutely delightful

Beautiful stop! Staff was so friendly and respectful! Flowers were gorgeous and it was so incredible to look at all the statues and the gods they represent. The hill was quite the climb in flip flops while the sprinklers were going and I definitely got drenched hiking up but it was well worth the adventure!

The sight of countless intricately carved Buddha statues is awe-inspiring and leaves you feeling a sense of peace and reverence. Visited January 2nd. Very long drive from Whitefish. I do not know what I think of this place and cannot decide if the drive was worth it or not. The toilets - both at the entrance and diagonally across are HORRIBLE. Do not go there if you can help it.
The gardens themselves are extremely underwhelming. Is it because it is winter? But then again what happened to designing gardens for 4 seasons? Winter interest? But I appreciated the opportunity to learn about other faiths. For some reason, I hoped to see 1000 different Buddha statues. 10 pieces around the circle, it was clear the entire set is exactly the same... Again, I do not know how I feel. Maybe just don't go in the winter. Might try it again in a different season - may be.

Great stop if you're around the area, even in not so favorable weather. The grounds are so peaceful and clean. If it were nicer out the day I visited I'm sure I would have spent more time taking a more thoughtful walk rather than sort of hustling back to the warmth of my car. There are bathrooms available at the parking lot and a gift shop as well. No pets allowed on the grounds.

This was an amazingly beautiful and peaceful place in the Middle of Nowhere, Montana featuring so many beautiful works of art, a koi pond, prayer flag mound, and a gift shop featuring water, prayer flags, little statues of Buddha, etc all VERY reasonably priced. This place was outstanding and if i could go again someday i would in a heartbeat. Be sure to bring coins as offerings, no pebbles or food.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of elk and their natural habitat. The RMEF has a well-designed visitor center with interactive exhibits that are suitable for children. The exhibits showcase the story of elks and their environment, while a nature trail provides an opportunity to explore the surroundings. Additionally, the RMEF regularly hosts events for families and kids, which are professionally organized.
Wonderful place to check out while you're in the area! Besides being an important conservation group, the RMEF has a great visitor center that anyone can enjoy. They routinely have events for kids and families, which are always highly organized and professional.
The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are always clean and beautiful.
Besides visiting, I'd also encourage you to look at becoming a member.

Amazingly wonderful place to learn about the local elk and their habit. It is free to get in and look around. There are great walking paths on the property that are also free to use.
There is a small shop, but its only focus is on men with nothing for women or children. Prior to their remodel, the whole place was more family friendly in the activities as well as the shop.
Stephanie Watts — Google review
Elk Foundation Headquarters no longer worth a visit. With a big fence around it now not really a very welcoming place. Maybe there motto is "Welcome to Montana, now please leave." Nothing like an organization that pleads and whines to protect elk population and habitat only to roll up the carpet for the locals. Great example of a Missoula "citizen."
Susan Andrews — Google review
The Montana Elk Foundation continues to support the torture of animals, theft of pets and violation of fair-chase standards by providing funds and lobbying for trappers who represent a tiny fraction of the population. Their good work to preserve elk habitat is stained by catering to those who think torturing animals for profit and “fun” is a good thing.

A Carousel for Missoula is a beloved local attraction that features a hand-crafted carousel and hosts frequent community events. Additionally, the site boasts an outdoor playground called Dragons Hollow, which is perfect for families with children. Despite recent concerns about mask-wearing for kids, many visitors still enjoy the facility's open-air environment amidst the heat. Overall, A Carousel for Missoula offers a unique and magical experience on the edge of Clark Fork River that appeals to all ages.

It was so much fun! The carousel went pretty fast. My two daughters and I pulled plastic rings from a dragons nose as we were going around. It was challenging to grab a ring but we got all of them. The last ring is brass and whoever gets it, gets a free ride! I'm in my late 60's and felt like a kid again, riding a horse on a carousel. We laughed so much and rode the carousel a couple of times. The elderly (older than I) gentleman that was in charge, told us that a 97 year old woman got on a horse last month. She holds the record. It's for all ages and you are never too old to ride a carousel. Cute little gift shop. Friendly and fun staff there. A great experience and a must do if you are visiting Missoula, Montana.

We come here for our daughter’s birthday every year and it’s magical. This year we came on a Saturday and even though it was busy, we still barely had to wait to get on. The attendant saw our daughter’s pretty dress and asked if it was her birthday. Then he announced her by name over the intercom and had everyone tell her happy birthday. People even came up to her later and gave her their unused tokens so she could ride over and over. It was the highlight of her entire birthday week, and ours too. We found out later the man’s name is Jeff, and we’d like to thank him especially for making our daughter’s special day so incredible!

Kinda bummed the playground was closed.. very surprised they were pushing masks on children.. If they are going to do such a thing.. they should practice cleaning the facility instead... it's OUTSIDE anyways.. in heat.. it's kinda ridiculous.. kids had fun, but mine weren't going to put a mask on... but A child is telling me I needed to wear one?? It kinda ruins the experience...
The University of Montana, a research institution established in 1893, boasts of an expansive park-like campus with an iconic hillside "M." The atmosphere during night games is electric as students and the band cheer on their team, making the surrounding mountains ring with excitement. Despite lacking another video screen on the opposite end and not permitting beverages in seats, it remains a great place to watch a game. The campus itself is beautiful and steeped in history while still providing all modern amenities one may need.
After four years here, I can say that this is an amazing campus and worth spending time studying at. The faculty and staff are amazing, the grounds are beautiful, and there is always something to do or an event that is happening on campus. My favorite area is the Oval.

Subjectively, can't complain with the inherent beauty that permeates the area. Objectively, not yet a student so I have no insights on the affairs of the matter but am highly considering enrollment in an upcoming program.

Working construction at the university is always a challenge. Have to pay for parking for the whole crew. Nobody working construction likes to park off site as construction workers have much money tied up in tools etc. The university should let construction personnel park for free in a designated area. We appreciate the work we do at the university but probably one of the most challenging areas to work.

I love this University. We went to the game last night. It looked packed and all the students and band made the surrounding mountains ring with cheers. Such a great atmosphere for a night game. Wish they had another video screen on the other end though. Also it would be great if you could have a beer in your seat. Still it was a great place to see a game.

Used to be a better school and used to have a lot more students. Now admission is dwindling. As is the new saying: "Go Woke, Go Broke". Liberal policies have been increasingly driving away students, and money, for a while now.

The town is lovely. We visited en route to Glacier Park. Stayed at lovely Babs Historic Hotel. Although the energy in town is sad due to the ideology being instilled in the youth at the college. Posters and signs along hip hop strip are very left...."abortion for all", "pride tide", "entitled" noted graffiti, homeless, etc. Beliefs reflected in how a visitor is treated. Sad. City officials, college admin., business owners need to make improvements.

Gonupntonthe visitor center of a walk to the river. If you are a birder, there are bird blinds all over. From Hummerbirds to Eagles, Ospreys, Hawks, Owls, Warblers, and so much more. Coyotes, Foxes, and even badgers. Look for Sanhill Cranes, Great Blue Herons, Pheasant and more. Beautiful sunrise and Sunset shots as well. I used to live in the Bitterroot Valley and so have driven down the old East Side Highway many times during my visits back home to my old home in Hamilton, but I had never driven into the Lee Metcalf Refuge. I was stunned at how beautiful it was. There had been a little snow on the mountains in late September and the air was crisp and clear. Many beautiful views even from your car. I would strongly encourage a visit if you are in the area.

Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge has a visitor center, an accessible trail with benches, wildlife viewing trails, and many opportunities for birdwatching and photography in the grasslands, wetlands, and riparian forests of the Bitterroot Valley.
Accessibility info and site description: At the visitor center parking lot, there is a large accessible porta-potty and two disabled parking spaces that are not marked for van accessibility. Follow the sidewalk to the left of the visitor center to find a kiosk with brochures, a beautiful view of the Bitterroot Mountains, a covered picnic area off the trail through the grass, and an outdoor amphitheater. To find Kenai Trail, continue on the path and cross the bridge. Kenai Trail is paved, three feet wide, and in mostly good shape. It is an estimated .3 mile loop with five backless benches, and goes through the grasslands. About two miles down the road from the visitor center and Kenai Trail is the Wildlife Viewing Area trails, which go through the riparian forests. Unfortunately there is extensive damage to the pavement at the entrance, which has made the disabled parking unusable and the entrance to the trails no longer wheelchair accessible. The left side of the entrance is passable, but note that it is rocky, uneven, and unstable. Once past this section, there are restrooms, an entrance sign with a map, and a covered viewing area with benches overlooking the creek. A wide paved .5 mile path leads to the Bitterroot River, and there are several trail offshoots from this main path. The Slough Trail is a .4 mile partially paved trail on the left, the Ponderosa trail is a .9 mile looped dirt trail near the entrance sign, and the .4 mile Cottonwood Trail on the right was flooded at the time of my visit. Note: there are no benches along these paths. Other areas of interest at the Refuge include the Grube Barn and the Whaley Homestead.
Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge offers stunning, unobstructed views of the Bitterroot Mountains with an added bonus of wildlife viewing. It's usually very quiet and has great opportunities for photography and birdwatching. The best part is that there are trails for all ability levels. I always look forward to my visits here!

Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved gold-mining town from the 1890s, featuring compact log cabins with period furnishings. More than a dozen buildings have been preserved in a state of "arrested decay", providing visitors with an authentic glimpse into the gold rush days when cities were built quickly and vanished just as fast. The ghost town has over 25 buildings to explore, and informational placards are available throughout the site.
Great ghost town, well preserved, and one of the best in the state.. Tons to see and there are placards around the town, explaining what this once lively mining town was like. There are over 25 buildings in the ghost town. You are free to roam around and explore the buildings and town. Depending on the time of year, the 10 mile or so dirt road may be like an amusement ride with the washboard roads.

It was an adventure to get there. The 200 route is smoother but if you are coming from the east, longer. We came through the rough ( bear gulch and cave gulch) and left on 200. Both are beautiful. The roads are one lane and pretty rough. We were able to do it with a front wheel drive vehicle so 4x4 is not necessary, but follow the signs. It was super tight when we met a car coming in the opposite direction but we were able to squeak by. The town is fun and has a beautiful setting. Some buildings are pretty rough and some have been fixed up a little. Well worth the adventure!

If you want a "real" ghost town experience, this is for you. This town is well preserved and mostly abandoned with cool artifacts and wonderful structures. You can almost feel the presence of the past around you without crazy tourist traps etc. Just watch the road, come in via Dublin Gulch and Route 200.

Been here twice now. Well kept and rather secluded location. Both times I went there was only one other group of visitors. Unfortunately, today the doors to the main buildings (hotel, general store and speakeasy) were locked but we were still able to go into the miners' cabins. This is worth the visit, just be careful on the road up as it is very winding and it can be difficult to see other cars on the curves.

This was a really fun detour on our trip. The roads were a little rough but was able to make it there in a sedan. The buildings are really cool to look at and the staff there are super fun to talk to. Might be a bit concerned with some of the wood in the buildings, I can see it becoming a safety issue in the future. Overall fun experience I would recommend stopping here

Coming from 200 the gravel road wasn't an issue with our full size rental car. Really neat place to walk around and explore. The information placards and the visitors guide were very detailed about the history of the mining and the town. It was a very fun way to spend the morning.

Great stop for a day trip! We had so much fun exploring this little town, it is very well maintained and clean with info posted about each structure. The downside was definitely the service and maps, we did end up with maps taking us down a dead end park road and getting lost for nearly 2 hours. Definitely map the trip there and to the next destination before you go while you have good service!

Beautifully preserved ghost town! You can even go inside the buildings, and some have multiple levels. The signage at each building provides great context that brings the character of the town to life. We came in from MT-200. The road up was pretty easy even though you gain a lot of elevation. We visited all the buildings in an hour and a half, but there are more trails in the area to explore. Bring cash to pay the entrance fee.

Such a sense of gratitude for those responsible for preserving our history and especially to the extent of dedication taken here at Garnet Ghost Town. Here you get an authentic interpretation of how an 1800s Old West Mining town could have looked and what life might have been like for these folks. Several well preserved buildings and a treasure of antiques from that period. I especially liked the Wells Hotel and Kelly's Saloon. Absolutely fantastic and worth every effort to see this Montana Treasure.

Amazing ghost town nestled on the top of a mountain. Well preserved and documented. Plenty of information plaques and most buildings have original furniture and items. Some buildings can be rented in the winter months too.
Note: entering from the north side is much easier than from 90. Driving in from 90 involves a steep rocky mountain pass that may be a little too much for a sedan or those afraid of heights

Beautiful spot & we’d definitely go again!! Absolutely no signal on the way up, so be sure to load map before heading there. Not a whole lot of signage. Hwy 200 is the best route to go. It’s a beautiful drive & room for 2-way traffic. The other route was totally harrowing! 😳

Such a cool historical place! I think people from MT can sometimes forget we are surrounded by history. It is easy to get to, but there is some dirt road driving. Easy walking, and interesting sites.

Well worth a visit. Plan on at least an hour or two. Once you start exploring you won't want to stop. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for some good information. Remember to buy something and/or make a donation to help preserve this special place. And leave my big chair alone! If you see the chair, you'll know which one I'm talking about.

Gem Mountain Philipsburg is a popular destination for gem enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to mine for local sapphires. Located just outside of Philipsburg, Montana, this attraction allows visitors to wash and sort through gravel in search of precious gems during the warmer months. Additionally, Gem Mountain has a year-round gift store in Philipsburg where visitors can continue their sapphire mining experience indoors.
Mining for sapphires is so much fun. we got a few that were larger than 2 carats, We need to send them in to have them heat treated. I highly recommend either going to the mine or buying a box from them to go through!

Sarah Leithold — Google review
We bought two buckets of gravel for $40 each to sort through and found several cuttable stones. Our second bucket had an unusually high amount of sapphires, so be aware that your mileage may vary.
They charge reasonable prices and make it straightforward to find sapphires. It was absolutely thrilling to find gemstones. The gravel was raw, muddy, and brown at first, not loaded with polished stones like some tourist destinations do to make people feel special.
The way the gravel is sorted by the attendants pushes almost all of the sapphires to the top of the gravel pile when the sieve is flipped onto the table. This makes for a great experience, because multiple sapphires are usually visible before starting the longer part of the hunt.
If you'd like your sapphires/garnets cut, they are currently experiencing a one year wait because of how many customers get in line.

Sitting on the Mexican Border sifting thru all this rock is nothing short of just a blast! Still have a few lbs to go through but I'm pretty sure we will order more before we get there. I guess it's kinda like gambling @ a casino without the second hand smoke! Just the luck of the draw..

Located in downtown Philipsburg, the Philipsburg Brewing Company offers a variety of specialty beers crafted with locally-sourced ingredients. Visitors can enjoy their brews in the tasting room while taking in the charming atmosphere of the town. The brewery takes pride in its Grown Ass Kolsch, a crisp beer with a lemony aroma and doughy flavors. Guests can also appreciate the unique feature of a chilled copper strip down the center of the bar to keep their drinks cold while sipping.
Great beers with a super selection that rotates over time. Make this a stop when you visit Philipsburg! The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to offer samples so you can decide what you want. Cheers!

Solid beer and fun atmosphere! Great invention by the head brewer to put a strip of chilled copper down the center of the bar to keep your brew cold while sipping. I do not recommend this place. They are anti Second Amendment, so I do not patronize their establishment. They have plenty of "progressive" tourists to milk anyway. For a better experience head across the street to the White Front bar. They appreciate liberty and freedom.

There was a kickass car show going on in the community along with other events! And don’t forget to save room for the creamery down the street (get the huckleberry!). This is the hub of Philipsburg- the only place that is open 7 days a week. Great craft beers. Hungry? Buy some snacks for a buck to have with your beer. Even better try to be there for one of their "Pint Nights" - and it's likely the organizers will be bringing food - like a Nacho bar!

A pleasant establishment with a qualified staff and a diverse pull of beers. I tend toward less bitter beers so regrettably the menu was skewed out of my favor. Be that as it may we tested a flight of their light beers and were very pleased. The raspberry Razu was extremely palatable and a big hit with me and my wife. We will certainly be on the eye out for these beers.

Philipsburg Brewing Company is currently serving in an outdoor-only style where patrons are welcome to sit outside and enjoy their patio space in the middle of the Philipsburg Historic District. I really enjoyed the beer here and would highly recommend the Imperial Stout Ale (10% ABV) which has notes of chocolate in it. If you’re in the Philipsburg area, this place is definitely worth stopping by for the high quality brews and the social atmosphere.
The Sweet Palace in Philipsburg is a candy emporium that boasts an extensive selection of over 1,000 different kinds of treats, including hard-to-find candies from the past. In addition to individually wrapped and hard candies, the store offers fresh handmade sweets such as fudge, taffy, caramels, and chocolates. There's even a selection of sugar-free candies available.
Very fun! Most items are priced by the pound, mix and match. Clean. Lots of sugar free options, homemade goodies, and every flavor of jelly bean and taffy imaginable.

This place is sweet tooth heavenly experience. I thought I was going to pass out from a sugar rush coma. This place was so amazing and I love that alot of the chocolates, taffy and fudge are home made. It's so great cause you buy by the pound and you can mix and match candy. Note to people with nut allergies I would not recommend the chocolate in cases or fudge do to cross contamination. Thanks to Lexi who warned me or i would have had a real emergency. But all there are a ton of other candies around for you to try. I love the taffy, bubble gum and other assorted treats. They also had alot of stuff animals which I ended with a cute little red octopus. Sugar-free candy is available.

This candy shop has everything. It takes you back to the days when Penny Candy was a thing. Obviously, the candy is a little more expensive now, but I loved the old timey feel. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable about the candy in the store. It's paid by the pound minus the chocolate, so you can mix it all up if you want. The chocolate is yummy, and the staff member who works the case answers any questions you have. It's a great place to take the kids to show them how life used to be or as an adult to reminisce how life once was.

Great nostalgic feel in this candy land shop. I recommend a first pass through the shop without picking anything out as you can end up with WAY too much candy when you get to the end. The homemade chocolates had great flavor, but I wish there were two sizes to the nut clusters as they are huge. It would also be nice to have some smaller bags for the jelly beans as there are 70+ varieties and I prefer to keep the sweet ones separate from the salty ones for flavor mixing.
Tons of variety and nice staff make this a great shopping stop.

Great Divide Ski Area is far beyond 5 stars. Their amazing customer service continues to amaze me after years of bringing my family. Their instructors are second to none and you feel like family. It is not the lavish resort, but in today's world I would much rather have caring, understanding people with great customer service than anything else. Quiet little mountain. It's so nice that they make their own snow to help a dry/warmer season. The chairlifts are short with short lines. This resort was super cool and very accommodating. We had originally set up for a whole snowboarding private lessons and rental for our children on New Year’s Eve. Then the weather changed and expected to be below zero and horrible for the 31st. With it being our kids first experience we really did not want it to be horrible conditions so we called frantically to see if we could come up on the 30th instead on that morning. With in 1.5 hours we had everything transferred and were able to give our children the experience of a lifetime by learning how to Snowboard. The mountain ended up closing for the whole day of the 31st because of weather so it all worked out perfectly. High recommend this mountain for a family friendly atmosphere and experience.

Lots of mixed feelings about this place. First the good things: great prices (love the 12 dollar Friday nights), super close to helena which is awesome, and lots of fun features and jumps to practice on. I also love the lodge since it has a fun classic ski lodge vibe and the other huts on the mountains are awesome. The Snow is okay but there are lots of spots with no snow at all. I do understand that this isn't their fault and I like how they compensate by building fun features around the mountain. The only thing that really bothers me is the staff. A younger women inside at the ticket desk was very rude and greeted me with "what do you want". Also the chubby guy with the red beard is SUPER rude and yells at everyone on the lifts. I have tried saying hi and wishing him a good day and he doesn't respond. I’ve also heard him yell at kids. New guy working on the lifts this Friday was very nice though so I appreciated that. The food workers have also been pretty kind. Keep up the great work guys!

I am a MT native, born and raised. I grew up skiing at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky. I have raced down Big Mountain and Red Lodge. While those were amazing places to ski, Great Divide has that local and community feel that other ski resorts have lost over the years. This is in my opinion, the BEST place to teach littles how to ski. It is affordable for parents and it is perfect learning terrain on the lower lifts. Also, the rental gear I have seen adults wearing look new, nice, and decent quality that I don’t think you find at other resorts for the price. The kids rentals are awesome. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, they seem to be genuinely concerned for safety and making sure everyone has fun. This is one of those hidden Montana gems that hasn’t quite been discovered yet….for now. Thank you Great Divide for offering us the chance to make ski memories with our kids!

This place is a gem. Second visit while driving through. Wonderful place to stretch your legs during a long I-90 road trip. There are tons of buildings to explore and some animals to see up close. Lots of interesting facts about real life cowboys of the old west. Don't miss the chuckwagon chat. The house tours just reopened 6-27-22 after being closed for years due to COVID. Rangers and volunteers are knowledgeable and very interested in ensuring you have a fun visit as long as you're respectful of the historical artifacts.

Sure I am sure glad I found this very fun and informative ranch. There is no entry fee, thank you national Park service. The day I went there they were serving a free chuckwagon lunch. Make sure you sign up for the tour of the main house which is free but limited availability. Get to see what a working ranch is and was. They still farm the ranch and raise cattle and hay. As usual the park service people were very nice people. You could cruise through the place in an hour or spend 2 1/2 hours like I did. You will need to walk a mile or so. Plenty of benches around.

We were lucky enough to visit the ranch on day when they were haying. Everything on the ranch follows the customs from the early 1900s and watching them use the beaver slide didn't disappoint. We were also fortunate to sit beside a lady whose father built over 50 beaver slides. She was a walking Wikipedia source. We did the house tour and most of the facilities. We spent about 2.5 hours and didn't see everything.

This place was awesome and completely free (they accept donations). The staff was extremely knowledgable and entertaining. I would definitely recommend the house tour and chuckwagon tour. The covered wagon/horse tour was also nice, but I believe it only happens on Mondays. Many of the staff are cowboys and know how to lasso. They are happy to teach you if you ask!
We stopped here on our road trip and it has been one of my kids favorite places. The cars were really cool and there were a lot of them. After we toured the cars we went to the prison and my teenagers absolutely loved it. You get to wonder around throughout the whole thing without being bothered. It made it so we didn't have any pressure and could play stupid games. The staff was great and the town is fun too, if you are thinking about stopping it is worth it.

So much to see here. You could spend a full day between the two attractions.
The auto museum has way more vehicles than I could have ever imagined to find in this small town. Really pleasantly surprised!
Looks like there was some recent damage to the ceiling and some of the cars had obvious water marks from the damaged ceiling.
Still though, it didn't take much away from the experience.
The prison was really cool, Tons to see and explore. It's laid out really well and in great shape.

What a fantastic museum! We were passing through, and arrived kind of late, but were delighted to learn that our admission is good for up to a year, so we can come back and finish the rest, so long as we keep our receipt! Was mostly excited about the prison portion (which was great) but was so pleasantly surprised by the auto museum. You really do need to spend at least half a day here, but with their extended admission, this works great. Can't wait to return to attend the other attractions we didn't get to see this time (Yesterday's Playthings, Frontier Montana, etc.). Also, we were eligible for a discount, which was so greatly appreciated. Can't wait to come back!

The auto museum was absolutely amazing. Beautiful cars from early 1900s to current. There are many rare cars to see. 100's of beautiful restored cars. Highly recommend this auto museum. The prison museum was very interesting to see. On display is barbaric old dental and medical tools they used back in the day. Very crazy to see how they handled prisoners so many years ago. This is a very eerie place.

Looks like a super cool place with lots of things to do. It was closed when we got there.(January 2022) It seems to be a good thing to do in a town where "there is nothing to do" we stopped on a road trip and were sad that it was not open. Sign said their season begins Feb 4th.
We still walked around the building and enjoyed the architecture they've added. There seems to be some kind of fair ground right next to it too. It's probably where they hold city events.
Parking was very very unclear. We might have parked in a field, I have no idea.
Overall, I'd love to visit again when it is open if we are ever going through town.

The automotive museum is very good. A great collection of cars from every era. Many of them are fairly rare to see. The collection is much larger than I expected. If you are a car person, you should plan your trip through this area to allow you to stop, you will be glad you did
The prison is eye opening. If you have never been in one, you should see it here where they let you leave. You do not want your first tour to be a permanent one haha.

This is a must see. So many cars and the self guided digital audio tour is great for the prison. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here.
Bonus keep your receipt and you can come back for another visit within a year for free.
Visit the antique shop across the road. It’s the home of the warden and a super cute shop.
The inmate hobby store across the street is also amazing.

We used to ask Grandma if she went to college. She said she graduated from MSP, a private girls school out west. Little did we know her alma mater was the Montana State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge. What an amazing place. The car museum goes on and on with a collection of cars that has to be valued in the millions. The old prison grounds are interesting and the buildings are spooky yet give a real sense of what it must have been like inside. The self guided tour had plenty of info and stops with unbelievable and very interesting facts. Bring the family and check it out. As for grandma, she wouldn’t get out of the van while the family saw the sites. She said she wasn’t going back behind those walls. Unreal. Anyway, check it out. Btw, I bet many came to know Jesus in the little chapel there. Pretty cool and Jesus does save. From behind bars to eternity, I can’t imagine!

This place is a really cool stop you might otherwise overlook. It has an old prison, hundreds of amazing cars from the 1900s-1970s, and an old toy museum. You gain access to all of this with one admission ticket sold at the prison gift shop, which is good for a 2nd visit within one year.
The prison is cool to walk around, and the ghost/paranormal crowd seems to especially dig it. The car museum is amazing, there are so many old, expensive and rare cars in there! I really liked the toy museum, make sure to check out the miniture train exhibit. The caretaker was very kind and sweet.

Love this place. Never thought I'd say that about a prison. But there is so much history here and I went with my husband a few years ago and again just a few weeks ago. I love that we can go into the different cells and offices and see what it was like.

This was a fun experience. This prison is old, not maintained, and pretty cool. They offer military discount on admissions tickets. The tickets get you into all the museums. There is a car museum, old vintage logging, mining museum, WW2, old toys, hobby craft, art and pen museum. There are also some old trains to see, a pinic area, old jail, blacksmith shack, log cabin, schoolhouse, carriage house and antique stores.

It's a very educational place for everyone especially the Montanians. This is where you will learn about the prison history and the prisoner's life. It's worth to see. I've been there on Halloween month. The staff decorated the place in a spooky way! I was so scared! They did a great job!

Wonderful museum complex just off the highway in Deer Lodge. We were just passing through on the way to Glacier NP and had a little time on our hands. The prison is large and clearly laid out. The displays are very interesting. The attached car museum is wonderful. My husband and I found both our first cars in there. It was quite a fun afternoon. The ticket price includes a second visit, which we plan on using next week to visit the museums across the street of toys and WWII vehicles.

Amazing value! Your ticket to this museum also gets you entry to several others and one revisit for up to a year. The gift shop is very nice, reasonably prices. The staff are friendly, and the tour was excellent. We will definitely take advantage of that revisit! Considering the value you get, the 18.00 adult admission is a real bargain :-).

Broken Wings Paranormal (found on YouTube) did an overnight investigation from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. We have investigated other prisons and we are very impressed with how clean this prison is. We loved how easily accessible the building's are, and the fact they're far enough away from each other that we had no issues with interference of sounds from the other buildings or outside. It was sad we weren't able to go into the theater. Hopefully, the investigation fees will help more funds go to supporting the renovation of that building. We would love to come back, especially after the incredible paranormal evidence we captured here. We highly recommend this location for other groups, and even individuals who want to take part in a tour.

This was a great stop!!! The kids didn't want to stop initially, but ended up enjoying reading the plaques and learning about what was made here.
We were quite humbled seeing the missing children in the law enforcement museum section, but it opened for a discussion topic that we don't talk about enough, and they wanted to understand more.

I visited the Old Montana Prison back in July of this year. I went on the self guided day tour, along with the overnight paranormal tour. The staff both day and night time guides are very friendly, along with being informative with knowledge and stories of the prison. I want to note that ticket price is a good value that provides admission into several other museums besides for the prison.
Wonderful Pro shop and customer service - it was a cold and windy day and had course all to myself - 2hrs total to finish all 18!

Black sand traps play so well! Maybe that says something about how I play. 🤔
The roll in the fairway is outstanding just watch out, will go left and right.
Greens roll fast.
Plenty of elevated shots, slopes and drops.
I absolutely love the practice facilities.
3 practice goes to boot!
This course won't disappoint.

What an incredible course...and experience! Played this course on Wednesday September 14 along my route to Ohio...my 191st course in a little over 3 years.
The setting is so unique...a Superfund site made stunningly beautiful. The contrast of the immaculate greens and fairways with the black slag bunkers and waste areas...embraced by the surrounding hills make this course an amazing visual treat to play! Great layout with very large landing areas for your drive, with accuracy required closer to the green - the Nicklaus signature design. So much fun to play! Carts were very clean and well cared for.
Beautiful clubhouse with interesting interpretive panels detail the unique construction of the course. Orderly, well-stocked pro shop. The recently remodeled Jack's restaurant/bar is very clean and beautifully done, and the food (I ordered a Club) is delicious!
The staff at Old Works is awesome. The course pro Andrew was very personable, kind and accommodating, as was Paeton in the restaurant.
I'll definitely be back!

Very unique course from the setting(old copper mine) to the black sand. Challenging from the back tees, a typical Nicklaus design. Some forced carries, more left to right shots, and large greens. Very good course for the $. Food was decent and pro shop is standard. Worth doing.

Absolutely beautiful Golf Course, really gorgeous and scenic with amazingly plush fairways and greens. I especially loved the sparkling black (coal?) sand traps. We booked our tee time through a platform called Harvest Host, which allows for overnight parking with RV. ‘‘Twas truly an Awesome experience, course was in great condition!

Have played this course over the 4th of July holiday for the last few years. The overall course condition/maintenance has steadily declined over the last few years, the clubhouse however has improved dramatically. The staff is always friendly and fun from the Pro Shop, the wait staff, and cart attendants.. always fun, just wish the course conditions (fairway grass, greens)would improve

Great golf course in Anaconda. Bit out of the way but worth veering off the interstate for. Historic site of an old smelter with lots of cool walls and features built right into the course design. Amazing black bunkers and course is fun the play. Can be windy in the valley at times so be prepared.

Absolutely amazing course. Difficult at times but the old structures and history make it almost like a museum inside a golf course. There's water, elevated shots and the furthest tees are over 7200 yards. Also affordable for the evening rate with a cart. Loved this place

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is a luxurious retreat nestled amidst lush greenery, complete with an 18-hole golf course and four hot spring pools. The resort boasts of modern facilities that make it an ideal location for work meetings, conventions, or a relaxed weekend getaway with family and friends. Its impeccable upkeep adds to its charm and appeal. Visitors can also explore the nearby Lost Creek State Park waterfall for a complete nature experience.
The resort is always kept up to date and well-maintained. It is a great location for conventions, work meetings, or a simple weekend away with friends or family.
During our stay this week, we were so pleased with the service we received while dining. Our server, Kara Lee, took great care of us. She used great friendly conversation throughout our entire dining experience. She kept us entertained and consistently checked in to make sure everything was exactly how we liked it. Thank you!

We stayed 3 nights at the resort just after Christmas. We had a standard room with two queen beds for our family of 4. We also had family staying in a suite in another part of the lodge. The suite was basically adjoining rooms with one room having two queen beds and the other with a sofa-sleeper and a small kitchen. It was nice having the kitchen as we prepared several meals for the entire group which was convenient and saved a ton of $$$. My main gripe about the resort is the cost of meals at the café and restaurant. I looked over the menus, but didn't order any food. We ended up going into Anaconda for a couple meals which was worth the drive. The hot pools were nice and the kids really enjoyed the slide. The changing rooms at the pool were clean and included a sauna too. The staff was very friendly and helpful when engaged. We also skied at Discovery which wasn't too far of a drive. The small hot pools really felt great after a day on the slopes. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Fairmont.

I love this resort. I have been a guest since my childhood. Still as much fun as I remember. It's a little pricey but it's worth it for a family or couple for the weekend. The front desk staff is a bit snotty, but if you consider the clientele...I'm sure you will understand.

We came here for a mom's retreat to enjoy the beautiful Montana scenery and get some R&R. Some booked massages and spa treatment and said it was great. The restaurant had good food and a nice breakfast buffet on the weekends. They were remodeling and closed one of the pools for cleaning. On the plus side, the updating seemed necessary to some extent and we were pleased that they took such care in keeping the facility clean. ALL of the staff were friendly and helpful in all departments throughout our entire stay which is what really earned the five star rating. Amanda and her front desk staff were especially helpful on more than one occasion. We look forward to another visit here in the future!

Pros: great location, good concept, extremely family friendly. The kids in our group had a blast. Love that there's an inside pool. Food was great in both the cafe and restaurant.
Cons: Front desk wasn't very inviting. I'm not a person to expect a red carpet or anything but a smile would be nice. People are paying over 200 a night to stay there. Kids under 6 I believe, aren't allowed in the hot pools. And the other pool is luke warm at best. And the chlorine is HEAVY. My skin is still recovering from it almost a week later. My hair was actually crispy when it dried from the chemicals. The deck of the inside pool was slimy. The pool bar opened when it wanted. One second it was open, 5 minutes later the bartender was gone. We had to go to the restaurant bar soaking wet to get drinks and even those bartenders were asking where the pool bartender was.
Service in the restaurant was just bad. And for the price of the food I'd expect a little better. We waited about 10 minutes while the employees were standing around talking at the bar and when we heard one girl say she was going on break we just decided to get up and leave because obviously no one was coming to serve us.
The water in the rooms during the shower was barely warm. One of those showers where you get in and out as quickly as you can because its uncomfortable.
If you need a buggy to carry all your stuff, make sure you're staying in the building where the front desk is because the ramp to get in the other building is clear on the other side. It was windy as all get out and it was painful watching people struggle to get there stuff in because they couldn't use the door that was right outside the main lobby area.

Love this place, reason I have it less stars is because the indoor pool area is always dirty. Rooms are great though. Love the outside pools and water slide. Been coming here since childhood. Took several years off though because I didn't want to deal with the uncleanness of the indoor pool area and dressing rooms. I have great childhood memories here.

Went for a nursing conference. Pretty great overall. But... rooms were to hot and u could not change thermostat as front desk said . They gave us a fan which was nice, but it was still a little hot and needed to open sliding glass door on bottom floor at night. Yikes is all I'm saying. Overall we felt safe....but still knowing this now I might ask for an upper room so we don't have to worry about anything.
Overall clean. Beds comfy. Safe feeling.
Thx

The service was the best. Your staff is amazing. We totally enjoyed our stay. Wish the pool was opened a little later in the summer hours. Your staff at the bar out by the pool was the best. Had so much fun with them. We absolutely loved our time there.

I went here for a convention and a great time. You're not in town so you are a captive audience, so to speak. The grounds were lovely. Amenities nice. Pools wonderful. Couldn't ask for much more. I gave 4 stars because there is always room for improvement and the second building was not ADA compliant. This older person wasn't lifting the luggage cart up the stairs.

We had the same check in experience many others have mentioned. Although check in isn’t until 4:00, don’t be surprised if your room isn’t ready. The rooms are fine but no where near luxury. Seem to be able to hear any time someone turns on a shower and everything in the hallway. The mattress was comfortable but soft. The website says complimentary pool access for guests there is still a resort fee. Upon exiting our afternoon at the pools there was no hot water throughout the whole resort which meant no shower prior to dinner and even the next day hot water in the shower was hard to come by. Don’t bother eating at the restaurant. We ate at the “fine dining” side and was very disappointed wishing we had saved the money and ate at the other. We went after a holiday so there were few people there which meant that it was quiet in the pools with great views from the outside ones.

Really good experience. The hot spirngs seem taken care of and maintained decently. The pools are also clean. Both places to eat and drink are fairly priced and the water slide is a MUST. This place is an amazing place to visit.
4 stars because the bathroom doesn't have a fan so if you go #2 it lingers. Also some of the food and prices are a bit much but it's doable if you budget.

The staff was friendly and the rooms are nice. I have been going to Fairmont hot springs my entire life, however, I was extremely disappointed that the pools were cold for 5 out of the 7 days of our stay.
On the flip side, the water slide was a lot of fun (even for adults)!

This year we stayed in the house. It was adorable, cozy and quiet.
Staff is super friendly and helpful.
We don't eat at the restaurant, I bring our own groceries and we cook for ourselves.
We stayed during the local school's last day of school, hoards of kids came and swam all day in the pool, but it was fun to watch them having a blast. This is their town, after all.

Pools and slide were great, and the kiddos loved our stay.
There was no bedding for pull-out in our suite, though we reserved it for 6 with two beds and pull-out couch. Start brought it over when notified.
Also, found a furry friend scurrying about in the cupboards when getting dishes to use to make dinner. Unfortunately, there was no space to move us to, but staff placed traps in the room to try and help. We kept food where we thought it out of reach, and it was fine. Resort gave us slight refund.

Well it’s our favourite place to visit in the Mountains and the pools are nice. Not impressed that if you stay more than a night there is no room cleaning service. When I called the front desk they didn’t seem customer service oriented. Stated they simply don’t make beds or refresh the items used. Guests just have to call for more items. For the price we paid (no special deals for more than one night) it was mediocre at best.
Amanda Chandler — Google review
Staff was very friendly. My only disappointment was that there is only one small hot spring, which is so crowded, because the other “pools” are luke warm at best. One pool was completely drained. We had a great time and the room was nice. When I read the description for the room it said we would have a balcony and jacuzzi. When I asked about it, I was told those were special suits. However, most of the rooms have balcony’s except for like 4 when facing the outside. I can’t imagine those are all special suits. So, just make sure you know what room your actually getting when booking. Other than that, I think it’s a great place and the staff was amazing. I would love to go back !

The service was absolutely amazing! Every single person working at the resort was friendly and welcoming. From house keeping, front desk, gift shop, bar and restaurant to the life gaurds. Just blown away at how nice and friendly the staff is 100% 5 start service.
While the service was so great, the fine dining restaurant food was not good at all or worth what you are charged- do not recommend.
The cafe and bar service was also awesome, and the food was good, just regular bar cafe food no complaints.
The rooms are nice BUT there is no temperature control in the rooms. So you are either boiling hot or freezing cold.
And for the price it seems ridiculous that you can't control the temperature in the room for comfort.
The pools inside and outside were so great. Plenty of room, not over crowded, temperature was just right and we thoroughly enjoyed soaking and swimming.
While it would be nice for the resort to upgrade some of the amenities we overall had a very pleasant time.
And again I cannot express how friendly the staff in every area is.

Had a very enjoyable time minus check-in.
Check-in is 4pm which is a hour later than most hotels which is fine but we were unable to check in until 5:30pm. It's nice that you can swim right away but to have a room to get set up in after a drive would have been better. The pools are clean and temps were great. The restaurant is reasonably priced with plenty of selections and food overall was very good. The pool staff, hotel staff, and restaurant staff are friendly (although a bit overwhelmed) and overall experience was great.

Lovely place for a little get away. Pools were very clean. Decided to do a mid week stay thinking kids would be limited but I was very wrong. I get that it's a family friendly spot and kids are going to be around but, being woken up at 6-7am to multiple screaming kids in adjacent rooms really spoiled the relaxing environment. Perhaps finding a way to section of family rooms from solo travelers could resolve that issue. Restraunts are nice, food was good, although overpriced, but that's resort restaurants everywhere. Great bartender! Had a massage with Pam which was absolutely wonderful. I'll definitely return, but will likely do more research as to what groups are staying at the same time to try to avoid the big groups of families. Also, next time, I'll request not to be roomed next to rooms with kids. You live. You learn.

One of the scariest public interactions I have ever had was at Fairmont Hot Springs Pool with (Mike, the pool membership employee)? He freaked out on me yesterday. I have seen him come unglued on people multiple times through the years. I’ve even had a couple negative but brief experiences with him. I watched him yell at a lady in line in front of me. All she asked is if she could pay for a membership for her and her children to swim. He told her he was too busy and it would take four days, so go home and do it online. At this point, I was apprehensive and nervous. So I stepped to the window and gave him my Badge. With that, I nervously asked him if my kids were in the system yet I had purchased a membership a couple days ago. He came back out, yelling and lecturing me and screaming about not having enough time to do his job and that he just had two weeks off and I needed to just wait. I even said if it’s not in the system yet that’s fine, I just wanted to check. Then he started yelling at me because I put her in as a new member and not a returning member. He started to slam his fist on the desk and scream at me. He was screaming “that’s enough and clenching his fists, I ran out of there crying Friday, he scared me so badly. Straight up to the front desk shaking and crying. The General Manager left me standing in the lobby crying and shaking for 15 minutes in front of hotel, guest and employees while he called Mike and got his story first. When I spoke to The General Manager about what happened and I was so upset, they told me if I didn’t like the service and wanted my money back I could go somewhere else. I have never experienced anything like this in my entire life. I still can’t believe it even happened!!! I just wondered if anyone else had had a bad or negative experience with this Mike the pool membership guy. It seems everywhere I turn, somebody has a story about him and I think something needs to be done. The distinct impression I got from management is that they don’t make their money from pool memberships, so any problems that arise from that, are of no concern. it’s sad because a lot of us locals have supported that business for many many years. Fairmont used to be my safe space.

For a room that cost $209 per night, Fairmont Hot Springs was a severely frustrating disappointment. “Hot Spring” pools were lukewarm, chlorinated, and filled with screaming, splashing kids playing with pool toys. It felt like a dirty local YMCA, not a relaxing hot spring.
Fairmont hot springs closed all of the outdoor pools which was a huge disappointment. A “genuine Montana experience” would have kept the outdoor pools open regardless of any cold temps. The springs are hot! They warm their patrons.
It is also absurd that we’re required to wear a wristband to use the pools, despite the pools already having keycard-only access doors. Choose one or the other. The wristbands were annoying and you have to sleep with it on if you want to use the pool the next day.
We were directed to a “sauna” which was a small, moldy, stone and metal room full of steam from the spring water running under a bench. Notably, it was the ONLY place in the whole resort that had natural spring water.
The poolside refreshments were overpriced and all the drinking fountains for filling water bottles were broken, except the one at the far end of the resort. The poolside snack bar staff was unaccommodating and declined our request to fill our water bottle behind the desk.
Finally, for a room price of $209, breakfast should be included, rather than expecting us to go to an on-site cafe and pay more money for breakfast.
In our room, the hair dryer rattled, broke, and started smoking after turning it on. We unplugged it and called the front desk. The shower water never heated up, lukewarm at BEST. The bed near the door was dirty (hair and black particles under sheet), and the mattress had a weird lump in it. Balcony door had a cold draft.
Overall a bad stay. Will not be returning.

The pool area is not clean. In the women's dressing room the floor was so gritty on my bare feet felt like it wasn't pressure washed in years. The bathrooms in the dressing area seemed liked they hadn't been cleaned in years. How long has the rug been in the pool area - since it was opened? I can imagine how much mold is under it. Better to take it up to concrete and use mats. They would be better off getting rid of some lifeguards and using that money to pay someone to clean the dressing rooms, showers and bathrooms. The shower room only one shower head worked. Use some money to clean the place it's filthy.
