The Coors Brewery Tour in Golden is the largest single-location brewery in the world, and it offers free tours for visitors who want to learn more about this renowned beer company. The brewery has been producing beer since 1873, so anyone visiting Colorado will want to stop by and take a tour!
Was on the first tour since the pandemic and it was a fun experience. The tour guides are super friendly and knowledgeable. You get three beers in the tour each in a different aluminum cup you take home as a souvenir. I enjoyed that they were spread out throughout the tour so you could drink as you learn. Very fascinating to see brewing at this scale and learn more about their history.

This was a great tasting! A tram takes you from a large, easy parking lot to the brewery. You can walk around and see the history, and of course taste some of their many beer, even the Colorado Natives. They serve the Coors light at 28 degrees! They also have a really nice fort shop! We stayed for a couple of hours and everyone enjoyed it!

First time here. We didn't plan on it, so we missed out on the factory tour. Not a big fan of giant corporate beer, but it wasn't half bad. The "free" tastings are very diverse, considering how many beers they make. I do appreciate that they honor the military. Every employee we ran into was extremely nice. They make sure that you have a great experience. May have to come back and do the tour.

I've been here pre Covid, and it was a great way to do a self guided tour and get 4-5 free beers! Parking is free, too. Golden is a really cute town to explore shops and restaurants. I would always see the most adorable puppies in town. When I have people who are new to Denver, I would stop at the Coors Tour and Red Rocks amphitheater when I went to Denver and it's always a good time! I haven't been post Covid so I cannot comment if it's still as many free beers
X O — Google review
We drove out to Coors, but unfortunately they only provide tours Fri-Sun. Luckily, we were able to reserve a tasting which was an equally nice experience. Our shuttle driver gave us some brief history as well as our servers. The gift shop is loaded with fun merchandise to commemorate your visit.

This was a fun experience! I had to lurk on the website for several weeks to get my mid-May tickets for my friend and I. Everyone else in our group was on vacation from out of town. The tour guide was excellent, and the tour felt like it went by a lot faster then the estimated time on the ticket. I enjoyed the samples, a few of which were new to me. They are very strict about not sharing your samples with another person, but no problems there. There is a limited snack supply of chips, trail mix type bags, and caramel popcorn. The gift shop had a very good selection, and some of the items were very reasonably priced, I couldn’t say no to a tour glass. I truly appreciate that I could find items for less than five dollars. I’m glad I finally did a brewery tour, and that Coors was my first.

We stopped here on the way to Breckenridge from Denver since we all love Coors! Check in people were friendly until we got on the van and the driver was friendly also!
It’s neat to walk the facility and see the stream where the water comes from! Very clean and neat facility, the price is very fair too!
The tour guide we had was an extremely nice and kind human! You can tell, I think he was limited in his ability to share details sometimes or ask questions. He meant well and did his best!
The coors was delicious and the best I’ve ever had! Tasted totally different than what we get on the East coast!
Worth going for sure, gift shop was good too with lots of choices and sales and they sell growlers of fresh beer!
Tucker Durgin — Google review
I went there earlier this year, right before the shut down actually. The tour was self guided! I’m someone who doesn’t like to stand in a group for too long because I get distracted.
The shuttle service was very organized and the bus driver made great recommendations for us to see downtown while we were done.
We had a great experience and the beer was so fresh! Can’t beat it!
Tien Do — Google review
Did the tasting since tours were pre booked for about a month out. Had a great time. Sampling was worth it. Staff let you try options before committing to a full beer. Gift shop was great. Even let me reschedule after getting stuck at work and being unable to make my original appointment.
Devin Blau — Google review
This brewery is very enriched with history, exhibits, artifacts, and well educated employees. Everyone here is very helpful and polite. I loved seeing all of the different signage walking through the halls. I recommend the tasting tour to anyone coming through. I did not do the actual brewery tour, for reference. The sampling tour comes with free, reusable Coors themed cups, and a free Photo Booth.
Olivia — Google review
I’m not a big beer drinker but I enjoyed the tour and experience. Mike was a great tour guide. Glad to check this off the Colorado bucket list and as a one time trip it was a fun way to spend an hour or so.
Bernard Jeremy — Google review
Neat to see the facility from the outside, but the tour itself is pretty underwhelming considering this is a giant facility. The tour has a small feel to it, like this could be any old beer brewery and not one of the largest in the world. You see bits of the brewing and packing processes on one brewing line. The tasting room at the end is like a generic uncle's basement. And you have to book 23 days out to have a chance at your pick of the tour time. Pretty meh overall.
Aaron Houser — Google review
Book in advance and check daily. Open only Fri-Sun but they can add Thu as well. You have free parking at close by lot where is a meeting point for the tour. They drive to the brewery itself. It is 1.5h guided tour with lot of interesting info about beer and factory as well. You will get 3 samples and you can keep alu glasses as a souvenir . Jesse was good guide, we had a fun time. Gift shop has very good prices and is affordable. If coming back to area, and with different group, I will go again :) you can leave you car parked there and explore city of Golden. Very charming place.

A must do in Colorado! Our tour guide Lisa was so charming and knowledgeable! You get 3 free beers and cups and a tour for a great price! Will be coming back when friends visit!

We visited the Coors brewery! Book your tour in advance as they book up quickly! We missed out on the tour but we were able to book a tasting in their tasting room! For a tasting you could enjoy 3 of their beers and you got a take home cup from each beer! Staff were Knowledgeable and friendly and there was lots of historic photos on the wall. The souvenir shop had some cool souvenirs and the prices were not bad! Overall a fun experience!

This tour was a lot of fun, super informative and it was really neat to see how all of the cans and bottles got packaged. Our tour guide, Anna, was absolutely wonderful and it was really neat to get to try a pre-prohibition style ale. Definitely recommend the experience for anyone who’s looking to do something unique.
Kaila Schleu — Google review
This is a must do brewery tour when visiting Colorado! The brewery is in a beautiful location and the tour as well organized. You get three tastings of beers. That normally aren’t at the grocery store. The staff is really fun and talkative. Just a warning at this high altitude you will get tipsy fast. They also have a great gift shop.
bartellj — Google review
Amazing experience and definitely would come back! Our tour guide were very friendly and informed, and great about answering questions! Super easy process of arrival, check-in, and then being bussed to the campus. The samples were great and felt super special being to have them right at the source! The gift shop/lounge was a great way to finish the tour with plenty of options for beers to try or take home! The small store beat my expectations for gifts and souvenirs as they go way beyond the normal cheap stuff you normally see, and have plenty of options for anyone! The tickets go on sale about a month prior so definitely plan ahead if you're thinking about it! I think there was also a bus that only went to the gift shop and lounge of you miss tickets or decide later. Overall a wonderful experience and couldn't recommend more!
The Colorado Railroad Museum is a comprehensive, indoor-outdoor history museum that has a collection of vintage trains and exhibits. The museum also has a miniature railroad and offers tours of the property.
Children and adults will enjoy this place alike. A lot of history that gets covered by the locomotive driver during the train ride around the facility. The train ride is three laps and around 20 minutes
The place is run by volunteers who are so passionate about what they are doing. They have built large railroad models that kids simply fall in love with. The gift store is all stocked and you are sure to find a souvenir that you will like. It's not crazy expensive either. There is ample parking space on the facility.
Mohit Vaish — Google review
This is a must see for anyone with a love for rail and history. There's a ton of train cars and engines. I went on a day where they weren't doing train rides, so I didn't get to do that, but it's probably the only way it could have been better.
There's an online exhibit companion that is also quite good and gives you some additional history about each exhibit. Be sure not to miss the HO model in the basement, that thing is legit.
Chris Heiden — Google review
This was a fun museum. This place has an actual train ride around the museum (there is an extra fee for this). You can tour many of the old rail cars. There is an impressive model railroad inside and larger scale model railroad outside. This would be a fun visit for a family with kids. Bring quarters to see the model railroad inside come to life
Craig L — Google review
Great museum! I recommend going on a Saturday because they have train rides! I went on a Friday, so I didn't get to ride a train, but they had several cool engines and cars to look at. It's a lot of fun. Don't miss the basement and the awesome model!
Sierra Merrill — Google review
My daughter and I love train museums and she came into town to visit for Christmas. She saw this Museum online so this was part of her itinerary before she left. We had a great time looking at all the trains and the videos! While we were there we saw so many excited kids tooting the train horn! This is truly a family-oriented activity that can be done any time of the year!

This is a really great place to go with kids..
You can go around outside or you can also go inside they have a model train in the basement that you can look at how its setup and run.
They have history of the Colorado Railroad and how it had started..
I do have to caution though there was quite a few different rail cars outside that were not open to the public.
Masks are required in side the building.

A great place to spend a couple of hours immersing yourself in everything "railroad". Tucked away in an off the beaten path location in Golden, but wonderful view of the mesas above the museum. Our grandsons from Omaha loved the visit - they didn't want to leave! The roundhouse where they work on the locomotives is great to see.
Chuck Baumgart — Google review
Price is fair.
Not much going on, I would say if you just need to stretch some time or don’t mind a 30 minute visit this is it. Or maybe you just love trains.
Went on a Wednesday so no actual train ride on Wednesdays.
The mini train exhibit down below was ok very cool display. I just remember seeing a miniature world in California at a museum once and I assumed it would be like that which is the only reason why I went. It wasn’t
So we walked about the yard only a few trains you can actually walk inside and even then it’s a plastic shield preventing you from walking actually through the cart, so you can only look from a distance.
Outdoors was another small town with a bigger train set. The men outside where awesome talking to us and sharing the history of the trains.
Best part of the entire visit. We arrived at 9:05am left at 9:50am.
JoJo/ Kaylah Louis — Google review
I enjoyed the museum but I love trains. All the docents were very informative about the many trains on the property. The train ride took us around the property 3 times and the guide had many stories to tell. Very interesting and I would return again.

This is my first time coming to this railroad museum, and I'm amazed with all the artifacts and equipment they have in display. It's great for all ages and plus they have a large garden railroad display. Few kids interact area and play area. You are able to get into some locomotive and Rail cars. A must see is the large ho scale model train display in basement of the station that took basically 54 years to create!
Definitely a must visit when coming to Denver!

My youngest son has a passion for trains. As we had some time in Colorado this weekend this was a must-stop. We ended up spending several hours there. This is a very interactive and neat place to visit. We were able to go on the train ride, and explore the grounds. Staff is very friendly and helpful, this is a treat for anyone, even the ones that may not be so passionate about trains.

Train museum. 10 acres outside of trains and cars. Wear comfortable shoes and enjoy. Great 2 story indoor displays to enjoy with a well stocked gift shop. Also working ho train tracks in lower level.

It was a lovely family day spent viewing the displays and riding train around the park. We have a toddler so did not stay long. I totally could stay a couple more hoyrs.

My daughter and I went here today for the first time in forever and it's still pretty fun! It's great for young kids and train lovers. Bring sunscreen! Lots of outdoor walking and lots of places you can't go into unfortunately. Overall worth the money!
MADTURKEY 909 — Google review
We lucked in to visiting on steam engine weekend so we got to ride the train around the grounds for $4/person plus the $10/person entry. Really enjoyed the model railroad in the basement, all the full size trains outside, and we even got to push the turn table! There were lots of train experts on the grounds to answer any questions and give tours of various engines and cars. We spent about 2.5hrs and really enjoyed the museum.
Brady Dresselhaus — Google review
Stopped by to look at all the cars on display. It was a great way to spend about an hour and a half. There's 15 acres to cover and no shortage of vintage cars to look at and read about. Several cars are open for walkthroughs, my personal favorite being the USPS car. The gift shop has a lot of interesting items as well. The yard is set up in a way that if you follow the sidewalks, you'll see everything. Don't be afraid to walk on the gravel, wear good walking shoes. It's uneven surfaces in many places. The restoration building feels like a time capsule.
Emily F — Google review
Truly fantastic experience, the number of trains on show, as well as the model trains running is amazing. Been able to visit the restoration shed is also awesome. But the highlight has got to be the train ride.
Steven Hanley — Google review
This is really a great museum and 5 stars are not enough to express my rating.
The museum has a great collection of engines and cars from different eras so you can experience the railroad at its finest.
For me the most interesting parts were steam engines and being able to see these marvels of technology under live steam was something you cannot forget.
The staff of the museum is super helpful and nice, and all of these people share passion, dedication and love for what they do.
Special thanks to Art and Brett!
And if you visit the museum - just consider donating more than the price of the ticket - it is just worth supporting this amazing place!

We loved our first visit to the museum and are already planning to return! Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. So much geared for kids that made the experience wonderful for me and my kids alike. We loved riding the Galloping Goose and look forward to riding a steam powered train when we go next.

We recently had the pleasure of riding the Polar Express. It was perfection! Every last detail was thought of. From the pre-show, that was delightful, to the fact that they had crayons and templates for children to keep themselves busy with, to the little details (like the mailbox where one can mail a letter to Santa), to the boarding process (by color), to the beautiful engine and cars, to the performances on the train and Santa at the end, we loved every minute! It’s not the least expensive thing we’ve done, but I think it was worth every penny.

I have been wanting to visit the Colorado Railroad Museum for many years. Primarily because I wanted to see the F9's that pulled the California Zephyr, but this museum is so much more ! Our Grandson enjoyed the expansive model train layout in the basement of the station, as did my wife and I. The motive power collection is enough to excite any rail enthusiast. The Garden Scale layout is the best I've seen. I have read the stories of the Galloping Goose(s), and here are 3 of them. The Pikes Peak Cog units are here too. The Roundhouse displays units in the process of restorations and repair. Last, but not least is a fully staffed resource and learning center/library who were able to provide materials and answer most any questions and show drawings and photos. We will return !

It's a railroad Museum - what else can I say. Infinitely awesome place if you're into trains or you have a kid.
At Balistreri Vineyards, the family's Italian roots are still evident in their wines. Handcrafted with only grapes from high-quality vineyards, these wines are free of chemicals and sulfites. The winery is in downtown Denver, just outside of the city's packed tourist district.
Wine is unique! Everything we ordered was well portioned and delicious. They gave us a free tasting of their monthly wine to start. Highly recommend the place

We had our wedding at Balistreri Vineyards in June 2022, and the venue, food, and service were all exceptional. We loved the flexibility of being able to have the wedding outside or inside in case of inclement weather. The venue is very beautiful on its own so we didn't have to provide too much in terms of decorations to have a beautiful wedding. My husband and I both loved the large selection of menu items, and multiple wedding guests commented on the quality of the food (everything was delicious). The service was outstanding and the wedding coordinators worked with us to make sure that everything went smoothly on the day of our wedding. We didn't have tons of money to spend on our wedding and feel as though we got excellent value for our money at Balistreri!

Great visit this afternoon with some friends. The wine tasting was $20 per person, and you were able to taste over 20 type of wine. All staff were super friendly and loved to share all their knowledge. The food was great! We tried a cheese and fruit board, potato dish and shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. The owners also offered our friend a complimentary dessert as we were celebrating her birthday! The mousse was so good. We can’t wait to come back this summer!

My husband and I were on vacation in Colorado when we visited Balistreri for my birthday. The family and staff were so welcoming! We did the flight of wines with the artisan cheese and fruit board. Wow! So beautiful and delicious! Ended our stay with the blood orange chocolate tart! 🍊 It is rich, so definitely big enough to share. Thank you for a perfect birthday! 🥳

We could not have picked a better wedding venue than Balistreri and they made our big day so easy! The fact that we didn’t have to stress about staffing, catering, rentals, etc was a huge weight off of our shoulders and we saved a lot of money by being able to bring in our own alcohol. The space is so beautiful, the food was INCREDIBLE (we had so many guests tell us it was some of the best food they’ve ever had), and all of the staff was for friendly and professional. Thank you Balistreri!

My friends and I went here for a tasting. We had a reservation and got there at 11am on a Saturday. It was perfect timing. We beat the rush, got our pick of table.
We received a welcome tasting and an amuse bouche of the watermelon gazpacho. Both were delicious.
The dessert wines were my favorite, especially the cherry wine.
The food was above my expectations, restaurant quality.
We even got a tour from the wine maker's wife. It was fascinating to learn how they make all their wines naturally.
Highly recommend.

We love this place! Have been to many Spring Barrel Tasting Dinners, as well as the Valentines Dinner and it’s consistently a wonderful experience! Shooting and filming Ivanna and Nick's wedding at the Balistreri Event Center at the Winery was an exceptional experience. As the team from Epoch Moment, we've been to many venues, but Balistreri stands out for its unique combination of elegance and charm combined with an industrial setting outside if you needed it.
Located amidst the allure of a family-owned winery, this venue offers a picturesque setting that is both romantic and inviting. The venue provides a stunning canvas for wedding photos, with lush vines and beautifully landscaped grounds that enhance every shot.
The event center itself is beautifully designed, blending rustic winery aesthetics with modern amenities. Its spacious layout accommodates both large festivities and more intimate gatherings without losing a sense of warmth and hospitality. The natural light that filters through the large windows bathes the interior in a warm glow, making every photo and video shot look spectacular.
The staff at Balistreri Event Center are fantastic to work with. They are professional, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about making each wedding a flawless and memorable event. Their coordination on the day of Ivanna and Nick's wedding ensured that everything ran smoothly, allowing us to capture beautiful moments without any interruptions.
For any couple dreaming of a winery style wedding that combines natural beauty with exceptional service, Balistreri Event Center at the Winery is a perfect choice. It's not just a venue; it's an experience that adds an extra touch of magic to your special day.
Rating: ★★★★★ – Highly recommend Balistreri Event Center for a wedding that promises beautiful settings and impeccable service, ensuring your day is as unforgettable as your vows.

Do you enjoy wine? Do you enjoy drinking the cleanest wine you’ve ever had? Do you like spending time with loved ones while you laugh, taste, and smile all of your cares away? If so, Balistreri Vineyards is your spot. I’ve been coming here since I moved to Denver in 2017, and much like a fine wine - this place has only gotten better with age. You will ALWAYS feel like a family member when you visit this family-owned winery. The owners are two of the best people I have ever met. We recently celebrated my birthday there and they made sure everything was enjoyable for us. I cannot tell you enough good things about this place - go check it out for yourself. I guarantee it will change what you know about wine and maybe even what you know about yourself.

One of my most favorite places to go. Some of the best food I've ever eaten, always wonderful experiences with the staff, and the wine is lovely, especially the cherry wine. Balistreri Vineyards never disappoints.

Stopped here to check out some local Colorado wines. The tasting menu is hefty with 20 wines to sample … you’re likely to find at least one that you might like. The landscaping is excellent and if you find a spot outside in the shade, it’s wonderful event on a hot day. I didn’t sample the cafe menu, but many did. I went solo so there didn’t seem to be the need for reservations but many had them.

This place is a hidden gem. The location was surprisingly serene. The wine tasting was so nice and the wines were delicious. We also had lunch and the food was amazing. The staff were courteous, friendly and very helpful. I highly

We have been here several times for tastings and lunch and each time it is fabulous. I love that they don't add anything to the wine, in fact they really don't mess with it a whole lot at all. It is a small local winery with all of the bottling and everything done on sight. The tasting is very generous and the tour is worth your time to go see the rest of the facility. If you can have Kyle aka Nor Cal be your host for the tasting. He is very personable, funny and has a crazy amount of knowledge. Make reservations for the tasting and lunch as well because the food is great. Gorgeous spot for events especially weddings.

I had my wedding here in October 2022, and My husband and I were absolutely in love with this venue from the first photos we saw. The venue was beautiful, the staff was helpful throughout the entire process, and the food was delicious! We really liked the how versatile the space was. The inside and outside spaces were both gorgeous, and our guests are still talking about how beautiful the event was. The food was delicious, and there is a wide variety of menu options, all of which taste great. The staff was super helpful and very accommodating. The process of renting the space and holding the event was very easy and the staff have great ideas to help. My husband and I were in love with the Balistreri, and are glad the we chose to make these memories here.
The Butterfly Pavilion is one of the top zoos in the country, home to more than 1500 butterflies. The zoo has five indoor exhibit halls as well as beautiful outdoor gardens and winding nature trails. There are also exhibits focused on spiders and ocean invertebrates.
I absolutely love it here! Friendly for all ages and easy to get to. The main attraction (the large atrium) is like walking into a fairytale. The paths are fully lined with greenery and of course, butterflies galore! There are so many different types flying around, and they gladly land on you. There is a front area with all the types of butterflies in their cocoons at all stages. The rest of the building has great educational installations, including other bugs and fish. On Saturday's, they host a beautiful yoga class that is intimate and unlike any other practice.

Loved going here enough to join and get a family membership. Definitely worth the price. Takes the pressure off trying to make the most of a trip and let you do things more leisurely pace for young children.
On our last visit our grandchildren wanted to move pretty quickly through the spider and invertebrate sections to the butterfly area. We almost walked into a man standing in the walkway holding his hand out. A beautiful butterfly had landed on his hand and he was showing it to us.
So much to learn there and a play area at the end with slides and other exhibits plus presentations makes this a sure to go to place.

I expected - and received a fabulous view of butterflies in a greenhouse setting. They were gorgeous! I did not expect the aquatic exhibit and it was a pleasant surprise. It was also fun to hold Rosie, the tarantula. We were a party of 6 ranging in ages from 10 to 77 and a good time was had by all.
Laura Pence Atencio — Google review
Beautiful place! It was a fun time for the whole family to learn about bugs.
We got to hold a tarantula while learning about the species. There was a whole room dedicated to different kinds of beetles and even an aquatics space.
Best part by FAR was stepping into the butterfly room. So many kinds just flying around makes you feel like you're in a fairytale.
It was worth the cost and time it took to get there driving from a different city.

The butterfly pavilion exceeded all our expectations!
The pavilion itself was beautifully designed, with lush greenery and vibrant flowers that created the perfect atmosphere for the butterflies to thrive.
We were greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors as the butterflies gracefully fluttered around us. This is a magical place that offers a peaceful escape from the outside world. I highly recommend visiting this gem of nature's beauty.

This was a really cool experience, but it's a little small for the admission fee. I don't mind supporting their mission, though. It was fun to see the various interesting insects (not just butterflies!), hold Rosie the tarantula, pet the horseshoe crabs, and even learn about shrimp and coral.
Of course the butterfly pavilion portion was the highlight. We were able to wander around and observe in wonder all the beautiful, delicate creatures around us. It was quite serene. Sweet to see the kids too.

Great place to visit but a bit small for the admission fee ($15 per adult). We were happy to find that beyond butterflies there were also small exhibits of other insects as well as some sea creatures. That being said both exhibits were quite small and the butterflies were the star of the show. The butterfly area took up the majority of the floor space and it was great fun to see a wide variety of butterflies thriving despite still freezing weather outside. There were tons of families with small children and it seemed to be a great place to bring kids as there were several interactive exhibits as well as a sizeable play area. Overall I think the pavilion is worth a visit for anyone but especially those with small children.

My kids enjoyed this a lot. The customer service is outstanding!! They were so kind! They were able to help me with a mix up on a membership and went above and beyond. Highly recommend!!

A beautiful spot to view beautiful invertebrates and hear some fascinating stories about them. There is a hatching area near the entrance and if you are patient enough you’ll see some emerge and spread their wings. My favorite is the yoga classes a on Saturday morning. There is nothing like stretching into a pose and having two beautiful butterflies dance over your head. Ellen, the teacher, is a delight, the class is for beginners to try and advanced to deepen their technique, and the laughter section at the end is just amazing! A cute gift store, fantastic staff and much parking.

It was a magical place, from the entrance with the bees and spiders and scorpions, and Rosie(:D), to being able to touch some sea stars and horseshoe crabs, and knowing that they've got a safe space to get inside if they get overwhelmed is amazingly considerate. Then on to the Wings of the Tropics. It was GORGEOUS. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it, words barely hold any meaning for this place. It truly feels otherworldly, and I had the pleasure of taking someone there for their very first time! I think everyone should go at least once just get an experience out of it, and the gift shop has you really engaged with items ranging from plushies for the younger kids, to Legos, to some framed beauties that you can display around your house. Will definitely be going again soon. Oh, and the best part? Even in the middle of December, the 22nd is when I visited, it's still nice and warm and safe for all their creatures. Much love to these hard workers 💘

My fiancée surprised me with 2 tickets. We were very excited to come and see all the cool creatures they have. The amount of butterflies is awesome you will see all kinds. I also bought her a framed monarch from the store. I highly recommend going here for some relaxation and great views.
The Flatirons is an iconic mountain peak that can be seen from pretty much anywhere in Boulder, Colorado. The flat, slab-like peaks are a popular rock climbing destination, and the area also has dozens of hiking trails that take tourists into the surrounding foothills.
An area of outstanding natural beauty with well marked hiking trails, some of which are suitable to walk on even in snowy conditions. Not to be missed if you're in the area!!

Intermediate level; for beginners hike may seem intimidating as the incline begins pretty quickly from the trailhead, but keep going! The views are totally worth it. We took the Chautauqua trail-Flatiron 2/3 hike up and the Bluebird-Baird trail down. Enjoy the hike!

This an amazing place with orange brown big rocks around. It’s very nice for hiking as well. This is most amazing place for photography and beautiful landscapes ♥️🤩😍

This trail kicked my butt. Visiting from the east coast and not used to the elevation. Also, there are some ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING parts of this trail that the locals cross with ease. My husband and I were looking at parts of the trails that look like the left overs of a massive rock slide and not a trail at all. Haha still beautiful and very rewarding to finish. If you hike a lot maybe you won't have as hard of a time as I did! The actual flatiron itself and not the trail....yeah that's never gonna happen. I'm convinced people from Colorado have goat legs.

Absolutely breathtaking! I am an avid hiker but I'm typically on the Appalachian trail. This was the most beautiful thing that I've ever seen in my life lol. If I didn't have the proof that I was actually here I feel like I look photoshopped in these photos, that's how unreal and beautiful everything is.

Breathtaking Flatirons area is a must when visiting Boulder. Beautiful views, hiking trails of different difficulty levels. Wear good shoes, bring water, lease your dogs. Be aware that you are at high altitude! Paid parking lot is available, but there are few spots, parking could get complicated.

A great view and hike, hiking up to mallory cave can be a bit challenging, as you’ll be climbing almost 1000 feet, still a great hike, make sure to check out the atmospheric center too!

Lots of parking on Baseline road. Park lot fills up fast. Still some snow on trails so wear hiking shoes vs sneakers. So close to CU campus.

I've hiked this place in winter and summer and it's just as amazing either way. There are different trails with different difficulty and their is a general store for a few more supplies but make sure to bring lots of water.

Awesome, simple hike, for beginners. Especially if you are new to the area. Parking can be an issue and if you are hiking on a weekend or a holiday it can be crowded. Overall it is a great experience and will definitely give you a break from the pretentious City life in Boulder!

Chautauqua Park is a park located in Boulder, Colorado that offers hikers and climbers a wide variety of trails to explore. The park is also known for its expansive lawn which is perfect for picnicking and sunbathing. In addition to its physical attractions, the park also has a number of cultural amenities, including theater and restaurants.
I LOVE CHAUTAUQUA PARK!!! I come to Chautauqua park a few times a month to either meet friends in the park or hike-it’s truly is a gorgeous place, and it always puts me in a good mood close to nature. I believe the statistic says that Chautauqua park is frequented more often than The Rocky Mountain National Park (which is about 40 min from Chautauqua in Estes). But if you are visiting the Boulder/Denver area, you should visit both, as they are both breathtaking and overall amazing places. Chautauqua is perfect for a family adventure, with friends, pretty much it’s perfect for any person who loves nature, mountains, and a great view! Sometimes I just grab a coffee and hike up the first part of the Chautauqua main trail. It can be pretty busy on weekends and holidays, so beware. The parking is good though, you just might have to walk a bit to get to the entrance if it’s a weekend-and most parking spaces nearby do make you pay. I also often bring my Alaskan Malamute, as it’s a dog-friendly trail, and she loves it! You won’t regret visiting this spectacular Boulder landmark, the flat irons are truly a sight to see and worth the trip!

We were told the Bear Canyon trail was the most known Boulder beginner hike. We brought our toddlers to do it with us! We went on a weekday and it was not busy.
Definitely a kid-friendly hiking experience, but a bit too much on the hills at the end. We ended up carrying them for about 1/3 of the way.
Gorgeous views - absolutely beautiful! The pictures I got were only with a smartphone camera.
We also saw a mid-size bull snake, a doe, cows, a plethora of birds and butterflies. The bugs were manageable without bug spray. Lots of plant species, flowers, rock specimens and natural landscape to observe if you're into natural history. A few little streams along the trail, and several shady spots to take a water break.
We did not see public restrooms or a place to get maps of the trail prior. We were able to download it to our phone before coming. Overall, an easy hike without kids and better suited for kids 6+ if you are doing the whole loop.

Beautiful place to see the Flatirons. We did not know what to expect so, no hiking shoes but the path was not bad and the trails are marked clearly. We did somehow encounter a few rough spots as we got to higher elevation due to the snowfall from a few days before. The blue trail especially, was a little rough and muddy. But when you do make it to the top, the view is breathless... no pun intended... 😆
It is worth taking the time to visit this park If you want beautiful photos and catch some wildlife.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our hike that afternoon.

I'm a creative based out of Denver and this is one of my favorite locations to shoot proposals in. The park is always clean and the views are unmatched. I really like how you can go easy or really advanced on the hiking trails. If you are looking for a great hike or something to do while in Boulder this is perfect for that. If you are someone looking to ask another person the most important question in your life this is a place I fully can recommend and it won't disappoint. Make sure you go at sunrise or sunset to avoid large crowds of people as the park is amazing and a lot of people like to go during certain times.

At Chautauqua Park and took the Royal Arch trail. A holiday weekend and the hike took us 5 hours to complete. Normal time is 3 to 3.5 hours to complete. It was beautiful day but just a little to crowded for us. Lots of dogs and lots of hikers equals log-jams and numerous points during the hike. But I'm not mad at anyone or anything crowded trails is a wonderful problem to have living in Colorado. I would recommend this park and it's many trails to all. The views are amazing and skill levels of all can hike a trail here. I can't wait to get back up, just maybe not during a holiday weekend next time.

This area was recommended to me as a good place to hike. It was very crowded on a sunny weekend at the end of March, but the hike was great! Still some snow and a lot of mud, but it was very scenic and enjoyable, especially with the great weather.

By far one of the best hikes in Boulder, you can easily spend all day here hiking and climbing up to the flatirons. There are several different trails for different levels and scenery. There are a couple of spots with picnic tables and restrooms. It gets alot colder at the top so I recommend bringing a jacket, it was also extremely icy in spots where you would just slide and could easily fall so be cautious!!
ABIC STUDIOS — Google review
Our group of 4 did the route up to Royal Arch in the middle of April. This was a slightly technical hike, with a few spots you need to scramble up or down rocks to continue up the trail. We were happy to be in hiking boots and using trekking poles, but plenty of folks on the trail were in sneakers and not using poles, so it's fine for a casual outing. Some spots are a little slippery, but caution is all that's needed.
This hike is beautiful from start to finish! We started in the meadow, then the landscape shifted to evergreen woods with ample stone formations, interesting lichens, local spring ephemeral wildflowers, and underbrush growing in. We didn't see many bird varieties beyond a few magpies, but we did spot some mule deer, and most importantly, a Colorado chipmunk! There was still snow on the ground in places.
The arch itself is breathtaking, offering a sweeping vista that looks out across Boulder, with a great view of CU. Well worth the effort!

Is breathe taking boulder mountain. Today was a perfect day for the hike to the Royal Arch..Took a bunch of pictures and talked to a bunch of nice people along the way.
Well, we took our time snack, enjoy nature and pictures. Is a steep hike, but everyone can do it. Do suggest a pair of good hiking shoes because the trail is rocky.
We felt like coming down hill a lot of impact on the feet.
Bring a good amount of water or some hydration pack, and protein drinks are a good start. We also brought coconut water.

Stopped here for a hike and a picnic lunch. Parking was difficult as there was a wedding and a CU football home game in town. We were happy to find that there were a couple electric vehicle chargers on-site. Great water station and facility for the pups too!

Great hiking and plenty of options. The trails are labeled for difficulty and the overlap so it’s easy to change. Not super difficult and a decent amount of shade and breezes. Pretty views overlooking the city as well as the mountains.

The hiking here is fantastic and has easy to challenging terrain, beautiful flowers, and grand views. We arrived early on a cool morning and grabbed the last close-in parking spot ($2.50/hr -- There is a free shuttle and parking though.) Remember to bring a picnic lunch, sufficient water, sun screen and a bear whistle. Yes, bears are seen occasionally 🐻. After your hike, you will want to pull a blanket out of your car and sit under the trees until your parking expires to soak up every last moment of mountain sunshine. Be alert to your watch however because City of Boulder parking cops walk around continuously checking license plates for violators. It's a popular park and there is a steady stream of cars looking to grab your spot when you leave. We found 3 hours allows for a good hike and picnic/rest time. Enjoy!

Amazing park, with tons of trails for any difficulty and distance. Parking is moderately challenging, be prepared for a search during busy times.
The Boulder Creek Path is a scenic route for both cyclists and pedestrians, which runs alongside a creek. It passes through downtown stores and parks before leading into the stunning Boulder Canyon. Pearl Street Mall is an upscale and popular pedestrian mall in downtown Boulder, Colorado. It features a variety of shops, restaurants, and art galleries, making it a great place to spend a day shopping or exploring. The mall also has an outdoor cafe area as well as free electric train rides for kids.
Just such a nice downtown area to shop and eat. I always take visitors here to give them the full Boulder experience. There's some great restaurants and bars. I like to go to Savannah Bee Company for the Mead flight they offer. I love the tulips and flowers all along it in the spring. Also fun to see street performers of all different varieties.

This was my second visit to Pearl St. and we loved it both times. There's honestly too many places to visit in one day. This outdoor shopping mall is nothing like I've been to in the Midwest (what I'm used to). The shops have something for everyone in them. The various bookstores and toy stores were my favorite. I especially enjoyed the Trident Booksellers and Cafe. Having the option to get my favorite drink and explore a unique bookstore is my favorite way to spend any day.

Our 1st time visiting Colorado so we wanted to explore and ended up at Pearl Street Mall. A few blocks of shops, restaurants, boutiques, Cafes, Gelato, Ice Cream & more. Such a nice walkway full of beautiful flower beds, plenty of benches... a peaceful feeling.
We had lunch at Pasta Jay's which was delicious! Then went on walking and shopping around at different stores, made a stop at Capital One Cafe for a nice latte, then off for ice cream... simply an amazing day here for us, so we're happy to have found it.

The Pearl Street Mall is one of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm in Boulder! I love that it's not only a place for shopping and eating, but also entertainment and play! Boulder does an amazing job keeping it clean - and the flower beds well maintained. There are fun, one off, places for the kids to play and "get the wiggles out". Next time, I definitely want to let my kiddos play at the splash pad! I was very excited to introduce my kids to the Boulder Bookstore, and I am SO happy they loved it as much as I do!!

Options to shop local, as well as the big name brands Nice, wide area between storefronts to accommodate the masses of people, even outdoor dining areas roped off from the passerby’s. It was beautifully landscaped. There was enjoyable street performers. It’s a wonderful place to spend a few hours and stroll, shop, people watch, eat or drink.

Open concept mall(i.e. not like a traditional mall where all the shops are inside an enclosed giant building). The mall gives a vintage vibe with some exciting art performances. I bought postcards from Art Source International. The mall also has a public restroom which is virtually absent everywhere else in the town.

Left Hand Brewing Company is an exceptional independent brewery that offers a wide variety of microbrews, including stouts, IPAs and barrel-aged options. The tasting room features a patio and daily food trucks, with ample outdoor space for social distancing. Knowledgeable staff can assist with organizing flavors for tastings, and fair prices make it accessible to all. Visitors can bring their dogs along to enjoy the large lawn area near the main taproom.
Excellent independent brewery! Enough options that a flight is likely warranted even if focusing on a particular category (stout, IPA, barrel-aged, etc.). Knowledgeable staff can help match/organize flavors for it. Food trucks nightly. Heated outdoor space, good for social distancing. Many, many options to go at fair prices.

My friend wanted to try a beer at this Brewery for a while and since we were layover 24 hours why not?
Upon arrival, you had to wait for hostess to open the door as they're accepting only a certain capacity of customers at a time. The gentleman up front was extremely nice! We decided to sit outside as Colorado weather was perfect for outdoor seating.
Menu's are through scan code so perfect. They offer a variety of beers on tap to pick from as well as can ones. I decided to go with a flight of beer which includes 4 samples. I picked Good Juju (if you love Ginger then this is your type of beer, loved it!), White Russian (if you're a fan White Russian cocktail then flavors are on point and it will be your perfect beer), Milk Stout (it felt like a triple double espresso; if you're a coffee lover then this beer it's just for you) and Raspberry Milk Stout (my second favorite - loved it!).
We asked for food options and the waiter mentioned they had an agreement with two restaurants. Options were either Mexican or BBQ and off course we went with BBQ. Delivery time was extremely fast and their BBQ especially their Ribs and Briskett were to die for!
Super knowledgeable employees, extremely clean establishment, free parking in the front lot of the brewing, and best of all upon check in through Yelp you get a free pint of beer of your choice with what's available on the tap options.
Highly recommended!

Some of the stouts where good. The ones with an adjunct, such as the French Toast had a very "fake" taste. The other beers where subpar. The staff didn't seem to like their jobs. If you get the chance take the brewery tour... its fantastic. I've been on several brewery tours across the country. This is in the top 3. Especially if you are a microbrew nerd and like to talk beer. Everyone there is very knowledgeable about the process and the final product.

We had an amazing visit to the sanctuary. We arrived with absolutely no expectations to see any of the rescue animals that they have but we're blown away to have been graced with the presence of many. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and it's a good way to get some exercise in on your hike. What a blessing we will be going back!

Incredible animal sanctuary! Its definitely worth the trip to see these magnificent animals up close. It’s also really interesting and inspiring to learn about the amazing work the sanctuary is doing in order to provide a safe haven for all these beautiful animals.
I really enjoyed speaking with a volunteer. He was very friendly but also a wealth of knowledge and taught me so much about the different animals, their stories and how the sanctuary strives to create a safe and comfortable forever home for all the animals regardless of their age or situation.
I would highly recommend renting or bringing binoculars. Some of the animals are easy to see but others can be seen more easily with the binoculars. Plan to spend several hours here as there are hundreds of animals.
They do have two small restaurants where you can purchase drinks and snacks if you get hungry/thirsty. They also have several conveniently located restrooms throughout the sanctuary.
A wonderful sanctuary doing amazing work!

Beautiful animals that we well cared for! Two MUSTS: 1. binoculars, 2. patience. This isn't a zoo where you are face to face with the animals behind glass. You have a birds eye view of them in very large natural habitats. Some of the tigers are in smaller enclosures for medical care or because they are newly rescued. You do get a pretty up close view of them. Staff and volunteers were all friendly and knowledgeable. Drove up from the Springs and it was worth the trip on a sunny, cool spring day.

*Must have plan for binoculars* you will not make the most of your ticket/experience unless you either bring your own or pay a few bucks to rent them there. You’ll see SO much more with binoculars/monocular. I seriously cannot imagine doing this visit without magnification.
Please keep in mind this is not a zoo. The animals are peacefully living in their massive natural habitats. It’s an amazing experience to see so many animals now given the best life possible.
I’d recommend waiting until kids are at an age for a 2 hour attention span with animals farish away. They have awesome accessibility and offer motorized power chairs to rent for those who might struggle with the walk.

What a fantastic place to see! Earlier in the morning provided us with lots of animals storing, walking around and just soaking up the sun. We say new baby foxes, tigers, lions, ligers, bears and a variety of wolf, coyotes, and other beautiful cats. Don’t forget to look for the camels.
Debbie Hunt — Google review
We took our kids there and had a great time! I was unsure what to expect but it was incredible. My 17 year old and 11 year old both had a super fun time!
We easily saw MANY beautiful and fun exotic animals from the safety of the walkway and yet the animals were roaming freely and safely in habitats that allow them significantly healthier and freer than what I’ve seen at zoos. Rescued tigers, foxes, bobcats, lions, bears, ostriches, emus, wolves, lynxes, and more.
It’s a drive to get there but worth it! Plan to do a lot of walking. But the time flew by and before we knew it we had easily spent over two hours enjoying the park.
We had good luck with the weather. Might be less enjoyable on really hot or really cold days because you’re outside, exposed to the elements most of the time.
They said mornings are the best because the animals are usually more active. That definitely seemed the case for us. By the time we left around lunch, many of the animals were napping in the sun.
It’s not inexpensive ($50/adult) but seems like a great cause and was worth it for us to see so many awesome animals rescued and taken care of.

The Wild Animal Sanctuary was awesome. We had a really good time. It's great how everything they do is centered around making the animals comfortable and healthy. We spent more time on the walk than we planned because we spent so much time enjoying watching the animals. Definitely worth the drive and the walk. The indoor entrance has plenty of bathrooms and a great little cafe, gift shop and ice cream shop. All of these areas are clean and inviting. Going in mid May the weather was perfect. The visit was worth the $50 day pass and I would gladly come again.

We had a great visit to the Wild Animal Sanctuary. We got there at opening and spent a delightful 3 hours. The volunteers were great and explained the animals and answered questions.
You should bring binoculars or rent them from WAS. There are a few animals close by, but most animals are best seen through binoculars. I always wondered where the large animals that are rescued go, and now I know. Many of them are here.
The big surprise is that the food in the Lions Den Cafe is actually pretty good. It is definitely better than your average zoo food. We all enjoyed our lunches.
Take the 50 minute drive from Denver and experience this jewel of a wildlife sanctuary.

This was a pretty cool experience but I thought it was extremely expensive for what it was. We did have a great time and I would consider going back but $50/adult and $30/kid is a lot for a family of 4. It took a while for our girls to enjoy themselves but once we got going and started seeing more animals they became more interested. We were some of the last people there as the park was closing and the sun was setting which actually ended up being a treat for us because many of the lions and bears were rawring and it could be heard from all over the park. So that was pretty unique. Overall I’m glad we did it but it will be a while until we return because of the high prices.

The animal sanctuary is absolutely incredible. We will be life long members and contribute what we can to support the crucial work they’re doing. The stories of what these animals have been thru is absolutely heartbreaking.
Thank you, animal sanctuary, for your vision, compassion and love for all the animals in the world.

This is the best experience I’ve had since living in Colorado the past 2.5 years. Incredible wildlife, staff, and facilities. Highly recommend bringing or investing in binoculars to make the experience that much better, however they do provide you with a monocular that you get to keep. Staff is incredible and passionate about the animals. My crew spent over 5 hours here and we easily could have spent 2 more. Other than the animals in the sanctuary we saw wild fox, bald and golden eagles flying by. 11/10 experience, we’ll see you soon!!

This beat my expectations. We had family friends in town and were looking for things to do with a 13 year old. We decided on the Wild Animal Sanctuary and went at 4:30pm because we heard going closer to dusk you had the chance to hear the animals start to rawr - and we absolutely did (it sounded unreal). The prices are obviously more than going to a zoo but we all felt fine with that since the money went to a good cause. This sanctuary is helping rescue so many abused animals. Our group did bring binoculars but I saw so much without them I probably only used them 3 times - but I imagine this can differ by times of day, etc. Amazing place.

Bought a Family Plan and took three of the grandkids. Will be back to see more in the near future. Pretty cool when the lions started roaring.
Clean and warm restrooms.
Sorry, no dogs.

Such an amazing place that rescues animals no matter the size or shape. The volunteers took the time to explain the animals situations and the care they get. Just an amazing experience. It taught my kids a lot about illegal animal trade and how bad conditions are for those animals. It was very educational. The animals have lots of room and are not in small cages.

Great visit. So lots of tigers, lions, bears, and wolves plus some bobcats, linx, etc. Docents are great to help you find the animals or share a story about their rescue.
The trail was clean, and beautiful. I enjoyed a bit of the elevation, but not so intense. The sunset at the picnic area was breathtaking. In the afternoon, the rocks covered the trails makes it a bit cooler and some shade which helps with the temperature.
CHAU NGUYEN — Google review
So you look here and see these rad rocks, but the trail doesn't go there. The rocks are in this rich neighborhood's backyard and the trail goes through the low points where you can't see them because they didn't want to build the trail through their landfill of construction trash. So disgusting what happened to this beautiful place. I encourage you to ignore the signs and go off trail to actually enjoy this place. The yucca plants will be just fine , trust me.

Really nice trail. Great for hiking or biking. Used to be free parking but now it's $10 which it's probably worth but seems a bit high. This trail connects to Coyote Ridge, Indian Summer, and Blue Sky which eventually ends up near Horsetooth Reservoir so you can get as much riding or hiking as you want. Do watch out for rattlesnakes.

Great, leisurely hike. Great for families, mountain bikers or individuals looking for an easy hike. I'd recommend this to anyone in the area looking for some exercise, a good view or just something to do to kill time.

Great hike to do, not very long, has great views and lots of grasshoppers!
Mitchell Eaton — Google review
Pretty audacious to charge $10 for a hike that used to be FREE for the past 35 plus years. Loveland must be very desperate of funding. Overcrowded and unkept. A $10 hike should be justified with improvements and beautiful scenery. For example Hanging Lake in Glenwood Springs Colorado is a $10 hike. This does not even touch that very disappointed. Not worth it!

Ominous rock formations jutting up from the plains gives this unique spot an amazing appeal. Short hike user friendly place.

Devils Backbone is a good scenic trail and I would qualify it as easy. If you want to bring family you can do so. Also the trails allow dirt biking.
If you do the extended hike which is 7 miles round trip there is some rock scrambling and a also very few people that far.
I think it's $11 to park, overall beautiful trail.

Great trail for walking/easy easy hiking. Good if you dont have time to reach the mountains but still want some trail time. Great place for bikers as well. Cool viewpoints overlooking the foothills and some of the nearby peaks. Easy enough for kids and dogs. Longest point is 5.5 miles out so round trip would get you near 11 miles if you wanted the full deal. Key hole lookout/viewpoint is awesome.

Beautiful hike near Loveland! After a couple of days hiking on some snowy trails in Rocky Mountain National Park, Devil's Backbone Open Space trails were a nice change for some sun, desert flora, greenery, and rocky cliffs. Definitely recommend!

So fun and unexpected! Our family took us here when we were visiting and we loved it! There are so many different types of sculptures: whimsical, historic, oddball, realistic, fun, curious, amusing, interactive. etc. We look forward to coming back when we have more time. 45 minutes was really not enough time to even see part of it.

I've been in Loveland for a few days and passed the sign several times and decided to check it out. I'm so glad I did. Over 10 acres of over 150 sculptures of various styles, subjects, and mediums, though most are bronze. I so enjoyed walking the trails and taking in this free art experience. Some are funny, others political, others historical and others whimsical. Many are placed in a specific setting relevant to the subject.
Every once in a while, you come across a place that you don't want to leave, and this was one of those places for me. If I had a molecule of imagination and an ounce of talent,I'd try to be a sculptor. This is the next best thing. Thank you for making this available for all to see.

The Colorado Model Railroad Museum is a historical institution that showcases exhibits of railway artifacts and features an impressive 3D model railroad exhibit. The museum displays intricate details and fun hidden surprises, such as tiny moving chickens. Visitors can easily spend several hours exploring the museum's vast collection and admiring the craftsmanship required to construct such a grand scale model railroad system. The different sections of the exhibit seamlessly blend together, allowing visitors to imagine themselves as passengers on the train while following its route.
Breathtaking details and fun little hidden gems are sure to be found at the Colorado Model Railroad Museum. (One of my favorites are the tiny little chickens that move. Reminded me of the chickens I had when I was little!) We spent about 2.5 hours here looking at everything and I know that there are tons of details that we probably missed! Just a great appreciation for the time, effort, and ingenuity it takes to design and build a grand scale model railroad system. Each section blends well with the one next to it and I found myself following the train and trying to imagine what it might be like if I were a passenger on the train. My imagination was soaring! We look forward to our next visit!

It was an incredible, one-of-a-kind experience! It's quite impressive to see the amount of work that went into construction of the model railroads.
Make sure you plan to spend over 2 hours exploring the museum. The staff were very polite and helpful. I'd highly recommend this place.

This museum was so much fun!! They've done an excellent job with their train layouts and they have created a really fun hidden items search that's great for the whole family. We ran all over for an hour trying you find all the items on the list. Don't miss this museum. It really was excellent!

I was in awe when I walked through the door. I did watch a few YouTube videos of the place before visiting and I must say the videos doesn’t do it justice. You have to experience it in person to appreciate the quality and effects put into this place. This is a must visit if you are visiting the Denver area. It’s only a 59 minute scenic drive.

I have waited for too many years before visiting this wonderland. I could have spent all day there. Although it is 59 miles from my home, I will visit it again. It has one of the best layouts that I have ever seen. The quality of the diorama is top notch. Don’t wait any longer. Go, you will not be disappointed. Sorry I moved all my pictures to my laptop to enjoy them on a bigger screen.

Very cool museum! This layout is massive. There is so much detail, and what a fun experience! The wife really enjoyed it, too. We drove an hour to see this place, spent 3 hours there, and can't wait to return. Well worth the trip!
Pat D — Google review
This is such an amazing museum! On Fridays and Saturdays, it is common to have one or two dozen volunteers operating trains. They all have radios, and obey over 150 signals on the layout. It takes about one hour for a train to go around the massive setup.
Check the museum's website as they have special themed events every few weeks. The place is expanding with outdoor exhibits coming soon.
Kids and adults will enjoy the scavenger hunt to see details in the scenery. Train enthusiasts will enjoy the realism of the historic trains.
I am a pilot, so I was fascinated with the Dispatcher and traffic controls required to operate so many trains at once.

I'm a train guy.....and my expectations aren't high. I have been to plenty of model railroad exhibits, swap meets, and even some museums, none of which can't even come close to comparing to this piece of history circa 1970's in the northwest corridor and pushing a tad modern. These guys really know how to put on a really quality realistic show of extremely talented ho scale model train workmanship. This is definitely something every train lover should see. From wall to wall, it exhibits examples of different scale sizes to different manufacturers, to all kinds of railroadania. It also includes a train simulated style screen from a locomotive that is running a on the layout, that allows you to see first person viewing, and they have a real ctc system dispatched by a real dispatch opperater and it icludes a full sized real caboose you can climb up into and have a look around. This is a very big display not big enough to get lost in but definitely big enough to encompass such an amazing train display.
You won't be disappointed at all. Go have a look for yourself and enjoy!!
We were visiting again from Michigan, and I do enjoy this place. Great beer and wonderful atmosphere. The people here are great. I want to give a shout out to Dave, he is a fellow veteran that works at the brewery and he hooked a fellow retired veteran. Also I was spending my birthday there as well. They were having a concert that evening which was pretty cool. There was a food truck there that had killer Mac n cheese with smoked pork on the top. All in all a Great experience.

I just stopped for an hour on my way into town — perfect way to get a sense of Fort Collins from the get-go! All the outdoor seating was great and the weather was perfect, so the mood of the crowd was super happy, aided by great beers. I loved my pint of Voodoo Ranger Juicy Hazy IPA.
On a second visit, a Sunday afternoon with perfect weather, it looked as if the whole town had converged on the place! Every table was occupied, so we took our beers and sat on the edge of the stage, a perfect place to watch the Dads Mini-golf Open, which was a kick! Funny to watch the “gallery” moving from hole to hole and getting quiet for a shot! Like the other big brewery in town, this is a real, lively, thriving community center for Fort Collins.

We visited New Belgium in Fort Collins for the first time this past December and had an absolute blast! Our small group of four received a very personal tour from Caitlin and she provided a topnotch experience. I've been on probably 8-10 brewery tours in various states but this one was the best, by far, and a lot of that is attributable to our tour guide, Caitlin. She took us all around the brewery and let us sample each of the different beers on tap. We even got a chance to pour our own samples! In addition to providing all of the details and information on how the beers are produced, Caitlin was great about fielding our questions while walking us through each part of the brewery. We even had a chance to check out the barrel room, which was really cool. If you find yourself in Fort Collins and you have time to check out New Belgium, be sure to take the tour!

I've often enjoyed beers from New Belgium Brewing Company and always found them delightful. Fortunately, during my trip to Fort Collins, I had the chance to visit their brewing house. This visit truly transformed my perspective on drinking beer. It was both pleasurable and uplifting. Thank you for such a memorable time :)

Being able to take my dog also made it fun. There were tons of dogs here! Absolutely aligns the Fort Collins dog vibe.
Definitely a great spot to check out and enjoy a beer. They also had a food truck here while I was there.

Happy to say after almost a year New Belgium inside is open again. Very large property for a brewery with a full bar selection and gift selection inside.
Outside they have a food truck and a very large patio slave that can get really busy during the summer. At night they have outdoor fireplaces.
Overall just a great place to chill outside with a beer and friends.

Visiting FOCO for the weekend and had friends take us out for beer at some breweries and the second one today was New Belgium. The place was absolutely packed on a Friday mid-afternoon. Don't these people work? We ended up sitting outside. I went with a sour, Dominga Paloma, and it didn't disappoint. We would need to come back on a weekday as we were told it is usually not as busy.

This is a fine brewery. Not fine as in average fine as in fine like fine wine. They have a wonderfully large field that is great for field games or little ones to run around.
The staff is extremely friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and cared for.
There is a great selection of beers including the new Belgium bangers like fat tire and the 9 million iterations of voodoo ranger IPA but also a lot of exclusive and small batch beers that are not easily found.
They also have sparkling water on tap and not just normal sparkling water but flavored sparkling water that is purple and beautiful.
So if you’re looking for a fine time, with some fine brews, with fine company; come to this fine brewery. (Again all these fines are like fine wine not average fine)

The tour costs $10 and you can buy tickets online in advance.
We were staying in Boulder and drove to Laporte to whitewater with Wanderlust. The drive had beautiful views and the portion on the Poudre we tagged was great too! The rafting required a lot of river negotiating and a few great drops and rapids. The guides all had unique personalities and were fun to be with and you MUST eat at Vern’s, just upstairs from the Wanderlust office, after your trip!

Great place to enjoy adventures with family! Bob did an amazing job twice accommodating our party of 10+ including children who loved the entire experience from tutorial video, meeting tour guides, to splash wars in the river & everything in between we enjoyed every minute. Family from Texas visiting Colorado for family reunion absolutely loved it so much we returned twice in one week. Wanderlust adventures not only has best prices around, but it was very special to us knowing it is difficult to accommodate my nephew (Jacob)who has heart condition and is not allowed to go above 7,000ft. I was surprised with a rafting trip for my birthday and it was so amazing! We did the Blast trip which is class 4 rapids but there was an option for only class 3 for beginners or people wanting a less extreme trip. We have been rafting before in North Carolina and Colombia and this was by far the BEST!!! Our guide Nate was so great at helping us navigate and getting us to working as a team. My husband and I were paired with another group and by the end of the trip we felt like one big family! I will always recommend this company of any others on the Poudre!

We loved our time with Wanderlust Adventures! Our charismatic trip leader was Colin, who was very helpful, extremely capable and fun. We did the Taste of Whitewater and a patron fell from the raft on the first leg of the trip. Colin was very attentive to the man and was able to assess his injury and provide help quickly.
Our river guide was George who was so fun, easy going and a very pleasant guy to be around. His laid-back style really gave us a wonderful impression of the local river folk. He provided a lot of insightful information about the river and its history, plus also recommended some restaurants and bars in the area. He also made it look very easy to navigate the river, despite our feeble rowing techniques.
We loved our photo package and will treasure those pictures forever. The package also included a couple of really great videos of our experience and was worth the cost.
Our only complaint is that it was over too soon! We would love to return someday for the Blast of Whitewater trip.

Overall great trip on "blast", highly recommend going. Our raft flipped twice so keep in mind this is not a theme park and there are no safety buttons to stop the ride. Pay attention to guides, be prepared to paddle, and it's like motorcycle rules, "dress for the fall not the ride". Get a good pair of shoes that will stay on your feet and cover your toes, they are better for rocks and everyone with open toes had the same complaints of " ow we flipped and hit rocks and ow my toes hurt from sticking them under the seat to hold myself in". Also, long sleeves/pants provide sun protection but they also hold cold water against your skin longer, take your pick.
Great job from the raft guides on all the rescues today, that rope throwing could use some practice though 😅.
Our raft guide was Dakota and he was awesome!

The river was great, the scenery was amazing and water was cold, as promised. We had a last minute change in our schedule and they accomadated us with one days notice, which saved our bacon. Curt Gowdy State Park is a recreational area that offers many outdoor activities for families and children. It was named after Wyoming's renowned sportscaster who started his career at local radio stations. The park has various campsites, hiking trails, reservoirs for boating and fishing, and picnic areas to enjoy with your loved ones. Additionally, the staff members in the booth and visitor center are very welcoming.
It was a beautiful day in early April. I needed a place to do some healing (burn old writings and photos from my past). Granite Reservoir and one of their burn pits was the perfect choice!

Well maintained park. Roomy sites. They even have kayak rentals. The only drawback is $32 per night with no dump station. Also, there was one inconsiderate camper that had his generator running non-stop.
Update: FYI. The receptionist informed us that they do not enforce the campground rules. If you have an issue, you must contact the local sheriff's department. That's if you have any service.

This is a beautiful state park! We stayed in JH2, a new section. The site was very long and spacious and we were able to level fairly easily although we noticed that some of the sites were pretty sloped. Our view was amazing and the walks we took on the trails within the park were great. They do not have a good after-hours check in process. It's a good thing I had written down which site we had reserved because I would not have known where to go otherwise. We plan to return to this beautiful park someday.

We stayed in a cabin and it was clean and well maintained and easily sleeps 6 with room to spare. The cabin has air conditioning, a mini fridge and a microwave. There was a wood burning stove and a picnic table outside for cooking food and eating. The pit toilet was the cleanest I have ever seen. There is also a 24 hour coin shower at the visitor center.
There are wonderful hiking trails for all levels of hikers. Slabz is a challenge but the views were worth the hike. Hidden Falls is a longer hike but worth it. The water is VERY cold.

Started this trail at o9:2o from the Hidden Falls Trailhead located at the North Causeway parking lot and it was already warm. Thank goodness some of it is in the shade and got cooler as you got closer to the water stream. Rock lovers would find this place pretty awesome with the cool rock formations of coarse granite. There is the Chameleon Rock where trad climbers can go and some bouldering nearby. We took several outer more challenging loops than the straight forward Crow Creek Trail to get more ice cream points for the day😂. The trails are all well maintained and easy despite the label of "extreme" and/or "moderate", and the highest elevation gain only 650 ft of that. This place could be a trail runners paradise 👍
The trail becomes Crow Creek and we followed the outer more "difficult" to Mo Rocka, to Foxtail, and finally arrived at our destination Hidden Falls at 1o:45 with only several folks getting there so wasn't as crowded yet. The falls can be viewed from a corner but one must get in the waters to get the full experience up close! The water was surprisingly cold and pleasant; not freezing! The water level today varied from the ankle to my thighs (I'm only 5'2") and the deepest near the falls up to 7' deep apparently returning from it. I did not attempt getting too close to the falls as it did look deeper and I did not want to take my chances getting swept under😜. It was nice to soak the feet and legs whilst enjoying the view and snackies 😂
People and kids started piling up so it was then time to skidadle! It was also starting to get really warm. Darted off of there at 11:25. We followed the Crow Creek Trail to Pinball to Stone Temple trail towards the Aspen Grove parking lot. The trail connects to Shoreline trail that returns to our start. Keep in mind this trail is out in the open with NO shade! The view of the Granite Springs Reservoir is picturesque and enticing enough to keep the mind cool on this hot return hike🌞
Sorry to disappoint but I didn't run into any moose today 😂
Stay cool on the trails!😎

Very restful recreational area. If you have ever camped in the Black Hills, I would recommend this one over the Hills. This is simple, peaceful, not crowded or over commercialized.
There are hiking trails. It cools down nice at night in the summer. If you aren't familiar with the Cheyenne area, it does rain a lot there in June and July. The camp area doesn't get muddy, but it rained every day of the 3 we were there.
The showers are pay, very nice with a door at the visitors center. Bring $1-$5 or a roll of quarters!
The water reservoir is the drinking water for Cheyenne, so they do limit what you can do in the water compared to other campgrounds.

Very nice state park. We only stayed for one night. We wish we could have stayed longer. We had fun exploring the lakes in the area. We especially liked the hike to Hidden Falls. To see our adventures subscribe to SIMPLE LIFE BIG ADVENTURES on YouTube.

This place is gorgeous. First time on Wyoming soil and just picked this place because it was closest hiking trail coming up from Colorado. Best decision I’ve ever made for a hike. I’ll be back and will camp so I can spend a couple of days exploring this place.

Beautiful trails, forests, grass fields and waterfalls. Saw lots of single-track bike trails too! Boating, kayaking and water skiing is available here. Plus you can rent a lot of gear. Tent camping and sites for motor homes and campers are well suited for any type of outdoor activities. Great fishing holes. Plenty of restrooms. Awesome visitors center. Minimal (or free) entrance fee. Nice grill sites are here. Awesome State Park. Get outside and enjoy the summer 😎!

Gorgeous park with great RV sites! Level and great distance between you and your neighbor! We had mile deer walk right behind our site in the early morning

This park is nice. Tons if places to dip your toes in the water. There are tons of hiking and biking trails. You can paddle board, canoe and float. There were a lot of people fishing. The water was cold, but felt great! There are a ton of camping spots all around the water and some have power. I will definitely be going up there again to stay a few nights with the family.

It’s beautiful state park in the state of Wyoming. The entry fee is very minimal but the residents definitely get some discount. The park has plenty of trails for hiking, breathtaking fishing spots, camp grounds, lakes. All in all you will never be short of options for outdoor activities.
The Cheyenne Depot Museum is an all-ages museum dedicated to the Union Pacific Railroad. The museum showcases photographs and models of various aspects of the Union Pacific history, including surveying, track-laying, and steam engines such as Big Boy. Visitors can explore the historic depot and listen to audio recordings from men who worked on trains in different capacities. The museum also houses the Cheyenne Visitor Center, making it a one-stop destination for tourists interested in learning about railroad history.
Cool little museum with a lot of railroad and Cheyenne history! The model trains dioramas were cool but it’s a shame they weren’t operating. We didn’t have kids with us but it seems like they might get a little bored since there’s limited things for them to interact with. Lots of awesome detailed reading and history for adults though. The audio tour was cool too since it uses your phone and you just dial in for each area. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting Cheyenne.

We had a great time, the guy running the front desk was very nice and knowledgeable. It took our family of 6 about 2 hours. The train room upstairs was amazing. Pet friendly as well, we had our 2 dogs with us and they let us through with them, awesome experience.

One of the best train museums we have ever been to and we go to lots of them. Every aspect of the Cheyenne part of Union Pacific history is covered from the surveyors, to laying the tracks, to Big Boy and everything you can think of related to steam engines. The history was excellent and displays were great. It’s located in the historic depot and is quite beautiful. The rooms have audios of men who worked in the train yards and on the trains in various capacities there is an audio tour. The Cheyenne Visitor Center is also located there. A wonderful experience, give yourself several hours. And thank you Michelle for being such a kind and informative staff member.

Wonderful for train enthusiasts! Learned a lot about the region and trains. Great activities for kids and adults with displays set up for a wonderful experience. Upstairs is the model trains exhibit where there are very knowledgeable staff waiting to answer any and all questions. It's a fantastic spot as it's location is right next to the railroad tracks and we got to see Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014 coming back from Denver Colorado.

Cheyenne depot museum and plaza is one of the main attractions of Cheyenne downtown. The depot museum is great place preserving the history of this city. Outside plaza is decorated with some great bronze sculptures. I would recommend this place to everyone. pParking could be difficult so find your place before this place get crowded. The museum timings are different so call them before you go.

We decided to drive into Cheyenne and check out their train museum there. The place is priced well and full of great docents to answer questions. There is a nice model train area upstairs that is well worth the time to visit. The layout took more than 30‘years to create/assemble and a marvelous jo!

Who knew there would be so much more to learn about the history of trains coming to and from Cheyenne! Here's a fun fact, when I was there, there was a video of a train going from Golden, Colorado to Black Hawk, Colorado. I'm from that area and had zero idea! Who knew I would learn about my own backyard in a city 120 miles away!

It was entertaining, but not what I expected. I wanted to see real trains and hoped to see the railroad roundhouse out back, but we couldn't because of buildings and fencing in the way. The elevator to the top floor of the main lobby also didn't work which I was hoping would give me a chance at a view of it with no luck. The main floor had a lot of history of the town and train station and how they used to make and fix things. There was also a kid play area and a little shop with shirts, toys, postcards, etc. If you like train dioramas though then the second floor is definitely for you. There was also a penny squish machine which made me happy.
Rose Green — Google review
Great museum for kids and adults - many exhibits and photos with interesting info (there was an article from the 19th century about a new miracle invention - telephone:) )
There is an area for kids to play with wooden train tracks and a place on the second floor where kids can control a model train. The museum run model train is impressive although it wasn't on when we visited. The gift shop has many options for train lovers and Wyoming visitors.

I LOVE trains!
I loved the diversity of displays to view in this train museum! I liked getting to view vintage uniforms, tools, books, and accessories. Another thing I enjoyed viewing was the second floor of miniature trains. The dinosaur scavenger hunt was a cute touch to the experience. And how fun is it to watch trains go by as you tour? Excellent experience.
Bastardo Adventures — Google review
Beautiful museum. Details the history of the railroad system in the United States. The second floor displays a very detail miniature landscape of Colorado with train and mini towns. The person who put it together, Mr. Harry Brunk, took 30 years in the making, past away this May (2023) at the age of 82. He made this huge project possible by dismantling a manufactured home.

A neat place to go to if you're in town! Definitely worth it. Kids would love this place. If you like trains in any way, or have a kid that does, this is the place to go! If you're lucky, actual trains will roll past, since it is still an official train depot. Upstairs (there are large elevators, so wheelchair accessible) there is a large room with a long, continuous model train and railroad. Due to the time of year we went (winter) it was not running, but in summer it is supposed to.
Additionally there was a smaller remote control train that you could turn on yourself. There is also a movie that replays upstairs to watch, if you wanted. It is an older movie.
There are some children-safe things to interact with, such as a wooden caboose and train car that they can play in and take pictures.

Very cool places to learn about, see, and play with TRAINS! Learn about the history of Cheyenne and how the train depot played a big part in helping to establish it. It also has a lot of history information about Union Pacific.
Took us about 2 hours to go through the whole thing. Lots to read and learn about. They also have different spots to sit and watch short videos. You can call a phone number and get a free audio tour through the whole thing.
It costs $10 per adult, but kids 12 and under are free. I think 13-17 was about $7? It's definitely worth it. They also have a cool gift shop too. There are two floors to go through, and the second floor has a whole model set up. Look for dinosaurs. 🦖
Also, be sure to check out the Big Boy 4004 down the street after you go through the museum. It's awesome. It's at a park and it's free.

We were here on weekend and there was a craft fair/farmers market taking place; lots of interesting items on sale.
The museum cost 10.00 a person to go in, we did not visit the museum, but walked around the train depot. The painted boots around the depot are extremely nice to view.

What a fun and informative museum. The model railroad museum upstairs is really fun. The detail in the buildings and surrounding forests, rivers and rock formations is phenomenal. The conductors are great and provide you with information. There are also 4 tiny dinosaurs hidden throughout the display, which adds to the adventure! Definitely a must see!

There is a wonderful HOn3 narrow gauge model train layout on the second floor of the museum,I love it!
The Wyoming State Museum offers educational, historical and cultural displays that showcase life in Wyoming from prehistoric times to the present. The museum features excellent dioramas of wildlife, exhibits on sheep ranching, mining, cowboys and pioneer life. Visitors of all ages can enjoy interactive exhibits such as touching hides of various animals. The Native American exhibits provide valuable insights into the region's history and culture. Additionally, there are informative displays about Yellowstone National Park and its wildlife.
Very interesting, some of the scenes were realistic. If you go up to one of the scenes that have a coyote in it you can see I believe pheasants on the other side. That made my day because no one else noticed.

Now this museum is definitely worth checking out! I have to admit, I think my favorite part of this museum was the kids area 😂. Two floors of SO much different information. From hunting, to pioneering, to state forests, to some dinosaurs and more! This museum got a little bit of everything! I don't want to post too much because I don't want to spoil the magic that this museum has to offer. You'll just have to see for yourself!

Got here as they were setting up for family day. We were in a bit of a hurry but they didn't seem to mind at all, and left us to our own to explore. This place is absolutely interesting, and had I the time I would absolutely spend more time here. My favorite exhibit was the national parks exhibit, which was filled with so many interesting facts about the parks around this beautiful state. I was mainly here for the state capitol stamp passport booklet, but they sold out so they stamped a paper for me to add to my travel notebook. The amazing volunteers here are so welcoming and lovely! I will have to return to Cheyenne to enjoy more. Expect to spend 45 minutes here for adults, an hour to an hour and a half if you've kids (however, with how many activity stations I saw, I could see this being a 2-3 hour endeavor with kids). For two adults in a hurry, we spent 25 minutes running through, and I wish we had 15 minutes more to spare so I could look and read more, this is such a great free museum. 5/5 would return!

It was a free museum with relatively easy parking (free) on the road. The sites were fantastic and truly covered the whole state. There was a elementary class while we went and they seemed to be having the time of their lives!
Additionally, I was very glad to see a wall about how Indigenous women are going missing at an alarming rate across the US, but also Wyoming. It is important to bring attention to the problem.
Highly recommend going if you're in Cheyenne!

For a free local museum this was fun & interesting. The lady that greeted us at the door was really friendly. She told us about the museum, gave us some information about the museum, & hooked us up with some brochures for local attractions. The museum itself had exhibits about dinosaurs, the old west, & the geography of Wyoming. Definitely worth taking a couple hours of your time to check out!

A very nice State history museum that is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Unlike many museums that are packed with too many things to see, here you have some selected items that are well-chosen and represent the many facets of Wyoming state history. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is a historical museum in Cheyenne, WY that features temporary exhibits, photos, and a video-screening room. It also showcases an impressive collection of rodeo gear and the largest assortment of carts in the world, many of which are used during the Frontier Days parade. I think this is a cool place and I feel bad saying this but..... It's over priced for what it is. It's dated and badly needs to be renovated to justify the $12 a person. It's really only worth $6ish a person. Seeing the old wagons was neat. If friends come in town would not say this is a must see unless they *love frontier days. The free botanical gardens across the street are a huge plus for the location and made us feel like it wasn't a wasted trip just for this museum.

This place has to be one of our favorite stops. Always hearing about “The Daddy of them all” and getting to stop and see it has only inspired us to come back to CFDs. Wish we could have gotten to see inside the arena area, but it was great just the same.

Had a wonderful time looking at the wagons and displays. The employees were helpful and friendly. We also liked the short film in the back. The only thing left to do is come back during the rodeo.
This was really neat and a good place to stretch your legs and take in a little bit of history. I also found amazing to actually walk where the wagons had made a smooth path in the stone. There are two ways up to see it, both are pretty steep, make sure to take your time if inclines are hard on you.

Fantastic! There are multiple stretches and you can actually walk around in. Walk in the tracks of those following the Oregon Trail. We have not seen other “ruts” this clear and accessible.

The trail ruts are really amazing. When your standing in the ruts you get a perspective of the number of travelers, wagons, and goods that came through there. Today, the area probably looks a lot like it did when the settlers came through. After we visited, we went to register cliff as a close by side trip. After that we went to Fort Laramie. Also, a very good stop in the area. These three sites are must see locations for American history buffs. Highly recommend.

Best preserved ruts along the Oregon Trail. Must-see if you're interested in the Trail. Mind blowing how many wagons it must have taken to leave such a permanent mark on the landscape.
Chris — Google review
Ok, this was much more interesting than I thought it would be. I do love history and I’ve heard of the Oregon Trail ruts before, butI had no idea these were so pronounced where you could see the the indentation of thousands of wagons that made there way over these rocks.
All I can say is that I hope they had good cushions to sit on because that much have been pretty bumpy!
It is back a gravel road, but we took our rental sports car back there with no problem. Not sure what that would be like in wet conditions though.
There are two sets of ruts, the main set at the top of the rocks and another one on the way down, so walk the entire loop.
Andy Kachelmeier — Google review
Cool spot for a short walk to stretch out your legs and learn a little bit about the history of America. Only a few blocks off the main highway too. The trail to the left is a little steep in spots, but the trail on the right is more gradual and better for those with mobility limitations. Both go to the same spot.

Nice quick stop and a short hike to stretch your legs! It was awesome to see ruts from wagons that were on the Oregon Trail! We have done several stops at various sites on our trip and this was an Awesome stop!
Koa-Marie Turner — Google review
Wow! These are some of the best ruts I’ve seen along the entire trail.
Also if you move past the main ruts at the top of the hill and go to the right, there’s a second set of ruts by the small bridge. It’s just a 30 second walk down the path. If you keep your eyes open beyond that, you’ll see the cut in the earth from where the trail led to those ruts.
Watch out for cactus if you decide to walk that portion though! My dog got stuck with a Prickly Pear in his belly.

It is very humbling to realize the determination and sacrifice that our pioneering ancestors mustered to find new beginnings, never forgetting the promise of new devastated cultures of old.
Historic site with a visitor center offers audio tours of the military post plus outdoor activities.
From the parking lot, head up to the left to find the signs and the visitors center. Stop in there first before touring to get maps, Junior Ranger booklets and more!
Some houses look closed but the doors are hidden around back so be sure to walk all the way around buildings!
Great picnic area right by the very clean latrines near the parking lot.

This historical site has been restored and some areas and well-maintained. There is a film in the visitor center and interesting displays in there. The great thing about this historical site is that you can actually walk in and see inside the buildings. That is not the case in so many areas these days. The stories still make me sad but it's our history of the pain and suffering we caused.😢

Fort Laramie has no entrance fee! The fort is mentioned in most accounts of people traveling the Oregon Trail, so I had always been curious about what it looked like. We didn't do the auditory tour, because we had little ones with us, but we enjoyed looking in the buildings and reading the signs. There was lots of room for our toddler to run. He especially enjoyed the taxidermy in the officers' quarters. The bathrooms were well maintained and clean. Give yourself at least 2 1/2 hours. They close at 4. We carried the little ones up the steps as they are a bit narrow and steep. Several building have these steps, so it isn't very accessible for someone in a wheelchair or someone with a cane.

I'm so glad we stopped here! This was such an interesting place. There's so much information packed in about the fossils and the history of the site. The volunteers and workers are very friendly and informative. We had conversations with several about the fossil they were working on, what finds they had discovered that day, or how they worked with the various tools. Definitely scan the QR codes located on the walkway railing around the site. They explain the different areas you can see from each stop. I put it on speaker so the kids could listen with me. There's 4-5 codes to scan, so make sure you get them all. We spent a good hour and a half here. There's another portion in the museum at the back of the gift shop that we almost missed. The gift shop has a nice selection. You can also buy a bag of soil to sift using the sluice out front to discover stones and fossils. We did a medium sized fossil find and it had quite a bit of stones and shark teeth in it. The kids loved it. There's also a small snack shack out front with pizza, hotdogs, chips and drinks.

A great experience set within an active dig site. Activities for kids, clean bathrooms with water fountain, and a nice introduction video on a loop. Highly recommended and informative!

When someone suggested this place it sounded like a tourist trap waiting to sick dollars from our wallets. Instead, we found a very interesting and engaging site with stories and artifacts that piqued our curiosity. What animals lived in North America before humans? … before Europeans arrived? How did they disappear? How do present-day scientists and researchers gather evidence? The Mammoth Site gives ideas on how to answer those questions and more.
This site should be interesting for people of all ages. The displays are large and medium-sized. The displays show actual work (present time) and past discoveries.
Plan to spend about 90 minutes inside. There are places outdoors to spend time afterwards.

Was in the Black Hills for a couple days and I finally got to go to the Mammoth site. This is definitely worth the price of admission. If you are a student of paleontology or geology you'll be glad you came for a visit. The bones are incredible and watching people actively digging and cleaning the bones was definitely a plus. Highly recommend coming to this museum any chance you get.
They have seniors and military discounts as well.

Very organized way to present the site. We started out with a short video on why the site happened the way it did, so that background helped as we explored the site. It wrapped up with a displayed exhibit and fun activities for kids. Friendly staff in the gift shop. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.

Very informative and well done preservation area. Features remains of variety of animals from per-historic era most notably mammoths. It is an active dig site so there are tools and scientists on site doing research. There is a very informative video explaining how the site came to be (from a sink hole that animals got stuck in) and how it was found in the 1970s. The tour is self-guided with information on plaques and through an audio guide (obtained via a smart phone app). Overall very good experience and would recommend to anyone visiting the black hills area.
Just an FYI, it is approximately 15 mins from the Wind Cave National Park visitors center (where you begin your cave tours). If you are buying tickets and have a long wait you can buy them further out and plan on visiting this area in the meantime. We purchased our cave tour tickets around 10am and had a tour time of 1:30. We were able to visit the Mammoth site in between and arrived back with plenty of time before our cave tour.

Easy to get to and with lots of parking. No RV specific parking. The primary tour is self directed. This is an active dig site. Please note that the web page has audio files that you can play while you look. Please note that you can stop the staff working on the floor and ask questions. They will answer you and go back to working. Be sure to go into the second section. It has more artifacts about the region rather than just the dig site. There is also a fun room for the kids with a couple cool activities.

We enjoyed our visit. Didn’t take long to explore the museum and dig site although you could spend as much time as you like. Not overly crowded. Not much activity in the pit but from what I read it sounds like the bones almost need to stay in place because they are fragile. Not true fossils. Also if they were digging and pulling bones out daily this wouldn’t be much of an attraction once it was all cleared out and just an open dirt pit. Actually very well done the way you can see the bones in different stages of cleaning and the positions they settled in. My kids enjoyed their visit but felt it was a little sad that so many animals got stuck in the water and died. Similar to La Brea tar pit in that regard.

Very interesting! Educational. Love the self guided tour with my phone and the QR codes at each station. This allowed plenty of time for pictures and the ability to repeat the presentation when I wanted to hear something again or read it again. The accompanying pictures in the presentation were helpful in finding and identifying what I was looking at.
The staff were knowledgeable and answered all my questions that were not answered on the self guided tour.
The entry price is quite reasonable.
The gift shop was, for the most part, reasonably priced.
I will return in the future to see the progress; as this is an active archeological site, and what you see changes year to year.
There are also some interactive exhibits suitable for children.

We visited the museum and exhibition site on a snowy morning. This museum is built around the excavation sote. We started with a video telling the story behind this find and we were mesmerized to see the exhibits. I would definitely recommend visiting this place if you are visiting rapid city

Like everyone who grew up with Jurassic Park, I have always wanted to visit an actual archeological dig, and now I have! This site has been active since the 1970s, and they built a gorgeous museum around it. Great information on my self-guided tour to help understand what I was looking at. You can head downstairs to see the lab where they work, visit the museum area with more photos and historical context, and hit the gift shop on your way out. Great way to spend a couple of hours in Hot Springs, SD!! Bring the kids, if you can :)

I went in early January and was the only person there so I can't say how it would be if it was crowded.
I would plan to spend a little over an hour to see everything in winter and plan on adding another 30-40 minutes for summer as the outside grounds are spacious and offer a decent view.
The staff was extremely informative and friendly, more than happy to answer questions.
The facility was well kept and organized. I had good internet service there and the self guided tour worked well.
The cost was only $11 (military discount) but I felt it was worth it for what there was.
The entrance is a longer than average walk from the parking lot with an explanation of the geology of the area as you go. I saw that they do offer a golf cart ride if you need one and can call the number posted on that sign.

Glad we stopped in. Very cool to see all those bones as they found them. Quick and easy, but very cool.

Had a great visit. It was nearly 100 degrees so we were looking for something we could do inside. Amazing display and the q-codes at the different spots along the wall were very interesting. Staff was friendly and suggested we go the the worlds best swimming hole and Cascade falls which was amazing.

Well, this isn’t a large place, and upon first pulling in and parking, it might seem that you shouldn’t have bothered. However, once inside, though, not large, it is very impressive.! we are happy we went and we’re amazed at the things we saw. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
I don’t know that I would drive too far out of my way, but if you’re in the area or close by, it is certainly worth stopping in. It truly is pretty amazing for adults and children.
Year-round facility, the starting point for all cave tours, offering maps, books & nature exhibits.
One of the best parks I've been to. Plenty of things to do both outside and joining a tour of the cave. The rangers are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. At the visitor station there's a nice museum restrooms gift shop and vending machines. If you come to South Dakota make sure you take the tour of the cave or you'll miss something fantastic.

Our family had a nice time here. So much to do besides the cave. Our favorite was the Rankin Ridge Trail. Such a nice view and the wind in the pines was so nice! We did the Fairgrounds Tour. Nice length tour & the guide was very knowledgeable. The Box work formations are beautiful. Easy to spend a half to a full day depending on what u do there.

Very, very beautiful and cool cave and park. Very worth the time and distance to get there.
We saw a few bison and even saw a coyote wandering among the thousands of Prarie Dog mounds.
Visitor center was great, had lots of really interesting information about the cave history and animals and environment in the park.
Staff was friendly and helpful just like all National Park Staff are.
Cave tour was great and worth the money. Beautiful and unique features.
We took the natural entrance tour.
There are quite a few stairs but almost all are going down with an elevator at the end. Moderately strainuous.
Don't be late for cave tours purchased online, no refunds. Arrive at least 15-20 minutes early.

The 1-hour Natural Entrance cave tour was fantastic. I've done other cave tours in the past and this one was actually better, because the route follows a tighter, more cavey passage instead of just running us through all the biggest rooms. You really feel like you're on a cave adventure, but not in a claustrophobic or creepy way. It was so much fun.
Sarah Medearis — Google review
The park rangers were very knowledgeable about the cave and were very pleasant when they had to inform guests that the elevators weren't working and no cave tours could be had. Plenty of information around the facility and the trail around the grounds is perfect to release some energy from the drive over. FYI, it's also a pet friendly trail!

Located just south of Custer State Park, Wind Cave is a beautiful, if sometimes overlooked area of the Badlands. I saw abundant wildlife and beautiful scenery everywhere. At the northern most part of the park I also hiked up to a fire watch tower. One note: as of later Sept 2023, they were not offering cave tours due to elevator repair. I was told it would be back up by mid/late Oct 2023.
Joshua Jay — Google review
We went on two tours, both with the same guide, but on different levels of the cave. Wind cave has unique features that made both tours well with the trip. The hike to the fire tower in the park was also quite enjoyable. Plenty of buffalo grazing near the park roads for great photo opportunities

This is a spectacular cave system. So far they have explored over 162 miles all within a square mile on the surface. They don't expect to find the end of the system any time soon. There are several tours you can take depending on your ability. Plenty of parking and hiking area around the cave system. Make sure you bring a jacket and good shoes. There are some steep steps but it is worth the price.

Very helpful desk clerks! The tour was amazing and highly recommend reserving tickets in advance. We skipped in because someone else dropped off, insanely lucky, I really recommend reserving in advance to hold a slot. It's worth it, just to go down and learn so much about all of the geological features and history.

We did the loop and centennial hike, and it was brutal in the prairie sun. Make sure to bring lots of water. The elevator broke so we were unable to do the cave tour. However, the grounds of the park itself are filled with tons of trails and wildlife. Make sure to be mindful of the bison as they will follow your trail and block your path. Despite how frightening they can be, they are a sight to behold. The visitor center has a ton of exhibits and great staff to answer your questions.

We had an amazing time here. We spent two days exploring the park and caves. Excellent rangers. They were incredibly helpful and kind. Can’t wait to come back. My daughter really enjoyed the Jr Ranger program.

The park rangers are helpful and informative. If you are trying to buy tickets the day of for a cave tour, you need to get here early. The rangers stated tours usually sell out by noon or early afternoon. If you know what type of tour you want, it is recommended to purchase tickets ahead of time. They have the junior ranger program here. It was busy when we came here on a Sunday. The parking lot had most of the spaces taken.
The cave tours are decent, but don’t expect to be wowed if you have been on other cave tours. While there are unique features of this cave, there isn’t a main feature like a waterfall, lake, etc. Just FYI, you do not actually walk into a natural entrance on the Natural Entrance tour.

We went on the cave tour- it was amazing and the guide was both knowledgeable and funny. We really enjoyed the tour. After the tour we hiked look out point trail to centennial loop trail. Half the trail is in the woods and half in the prairie. We picked a cool day so temperatures were perfect for this hike. We saw one Buffalo in the distance, but there was fresh poop everywhere on the trail so be aware of Buffalo! We used the All-Trails app for this hike. There were prairie dogs everywhere when we got to the prairie! Adorable.

We came up for the national park and the elevator is closed currently for the cave. So we looked up things to do on their Facebook page and came over for an evening ranger program on elk!
There is a nice path around the visitor center with picnic tables. We saw mule deer and bison. If this review helps you, give us a thumbs up! #crazykleinadventure

A must see and experience this wonderful place! Bring your camera and lots of batteries! The vistas are breathtaking and the wild life is too. But please remember this is NOT a petting zoo. It’s a park with real WILD life- they are not in cages or behind fences. It’s their space.

We did the Garden of Eden tour and it was great! It was about the perfect length, the kids were just starting to get restless toward the end. Beautiful cave features! The park ranger who led the tour was very knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting facts. The museum was also interesting and worth a walk around.

This was a really cool cave tour. The Ranger was extremely knowledgeable and made the experience enjoyable. I liked the Natural walking tour, but there are so many different types of cave tours. You can literally get a different experience each time.
Wear comfortable shoes, ones with decent traction. Take a jacket with you. It is cold in the cave, even during the hottest summer days. You can not take any bags or purses in the cave.
Jewel Cave National Monument is a historic site that features over 170 miles of trails, lantern tours, and opportunities to view wildlife. Visitors can explore the fascinating cave system with its colorful walls and unique formations. However, due to the ongoing elevator renovation, only two tours are currently available: Discovery tour and Lantern tour. Despite this limitation, visitors have praised the ranger guide for their extensive knowledge about the cave during these tours.
Incredible tour of gorgeous caves. This is the 4th cave we have visited and it is unique and beautiful. It is easy to see how it got it's name. We did the scenic tour which was a little pricy for a National Monument ($16 ea) but worth it. We were able to purchase our tickets online but there was no discount for holders of the senior lifetime pass but it is easy to see the investments they have made to this site. New elevators and metal walkways/steps are a big upgrade from other caves we have visited. I highly recommend seeing this cave if you have a chance.

My husband and I went on a tour today it was over an hour long and amazing! The tour guide had so much knowledge and really took his time to explain everything!!! It was also a great workout 🏋️♀️ 🤣 lots of stairs. This was our top favorite experience. Highly recommend! It’s a must see! We will be bringing our kids next time 🥰.
No masks required. A few people wore 😷 masks. Would recommend good walking shoes and a sweatshirt or jacket. Nothing is allowed into the cave ( no maps / info sheets / water ) they have bathrooms before you enter. They are trying to protect the caves natural habitat so some rules apply. Light trails around the area checks these out very pretty 🤩

Beautiful cave and nice tour. Wish the discovery tour was longer but for the price I cannot complain! Our tour guide Connie was super nice and had answers to all of our questions! The small trails nearby were also well maintained and provided history and great views

I did the Garden of Eden tour and wish I had time for more! It is a very easy walk with only a few sections that have stairs / are not flat. There is so much history here, and I appreciated that during the tour, Lakota history was included as it is a sacred place for many. The short loop above the caves was so beautiful and worth the walk even in the winter.

Gotta go see it. How can you skip on the 3rd longest tunnel system in the world? Let your kids get their junior ranger badges. Scenic tour is great, but don't expect to be able to stop and take a lot of photos as there are a lot of stairs. Enjoy the moment as you are in it with your friends and family.

Note: Be sure to visit the historical site to see the original cave opening. It's just down the hill and is free. Be certain that you get there early or make reservations during peak season because tours fill up quick. We arrived at 1pm and tours were sold out for the day which is 5:30pm and that includes the 20 min mini tours. Note, no cellular service here. Has a nice video about the creation and exploration of the cave system. Has a cave science museum section of the information office.

Loved the cave! Such a cool experience...both literally and figuratively. Cave is a constant 49 degrees. Plan to wear a hoodie or jacket. Anything you bring in must fit in your pockets. Our tour guide for the 8:20 tour on 6/7/23 was knowledgeable about the cave. However, he would greatly benefit from some staff development in public speaking. I don't mean to sound unkind. He, like many people, don't speak loudly, clearly, or concisely enough when speaking to groups. "Um" should be eliminated from your vocabulary when in these situations. Aside from that, I do highly recommend visiting Jewel Cave! It's fascinating!

A beautiful stop for our family. Our guide Ranger Megan was excellent and we learned so much but we were not overwhelmed by the information, it was delivered at the right level and te right tone. Our tour lasted for an hour and a half, so just perfect to keep the kids attention.
I was worried about the 734 stairs up and down but it went really well. We are an active family and we found that the pace relax, there were many stops to learn about different rooms and you get plenty of time to “recover” to climb the next flight of stairs. At the lowest point, we were at 380 feet below the surface, really cool! The highlight was when Ranger Megan close the “lights” for a few minutes for the group to feel what is like in the dark…it was pitch black and we kept silence for a minute to listen to the water dropping and it was a neat experience. For 48$ for the family, an amazing deal!

Limited tours are available daily. Took a weekday Scenic Tour, which is guided and lasted 1 and a half hours. Adult tickets are $16, youth $8, and under 5 free. This is a tour that requires climbing and descending several flights of stairs, low ceilings and navigating narrow winding passages. Now, all this may make you ask why Jewel Cave? This was the most interesting cave tour I have ever taken. Brad was not only interesting, he was knowledgeable and pointed out the highlights and history of the cave. There are large open rooms that facilitated the exchange of information and allowed photo opportunities. An elevator will take you 240' down to the cave floor and return you 260' at the end to the visitor center. Well worth the time and money!

Bob was an excellent guide on our discovery tour. Very friendly and funny as well. I enjoyed the visitor center. The cave decor is wonderful and I loved learning about the bats on the interactive screens. I got a passport stamp as well! I even got to see a couple big horn sheep near the parking lot. The bathroom was clean and I loved the smell of the hand soap!!

During our visit we took the Discovery tour, this and the Lantern tour are the only two tours available because the park is renovating the elevator. (August 2021) Although the tour was short, it gave us a glimpse of the world below. The cave is fascinating with many colors and formations decorating the walls of the cave. Our ranger guide was excellent, enjoyed her knowledge of the cave during the whole tour. Giving this 4 stars only because of the elevator renovation, it is definitely a 5star location, just giving myself something to look forward to in the future.

By far, the scenic tour at Jewel Cave was WAY better than Wind Cave. The pace was good, the formations - AMAZING. And the size of the cavernous rooms - stunning. If you only have time to do one of the caves in the Black Hills, make it this one. But make reservations ahead of time! We didn't, so we actually made two trips to the park, making it on the second tour of the day. Your reservations must be made 48+ hours in advance.

We visited November 9th. There must have been 4 cars in the lot when we arrived. Off-season is the way to go, if the weather cooperates 😉
The visitor center is informative and well set out. We had reservations thru the recreation.cov site. We did both the tours, the Discovery and Scenic tour. First covers more history and second a walk thru the caves. If you have been to Carlsbad or Mammoth caves you may be underwhelmed. But, this is an entirely different geological setting. These caves, though formed by dissolving the local limestone were re-coated with calcite crystals, everywhere!
Lots of stairs and viewing platforms on the longer tour. But the pace is easy and the tour guides are informative. Narrow passages and hudge cathedral rooms to encounter.
We also explored the Canyon Trail. Visited the original entrance and CCC cabin. If you can arrive early do the trail, 3+ miles. Amazing canyon and you may see some wildlife.

we really enjoyed jewel cave, especially since our tour of wind cave was cancelled due to elevator issues. our ranger led scenic tour was very informative and fun! there are a lot of steps, though mostly going down and plenty of stopping to rest and take photos. jewel cave truly is a jewel of a place! interesting history and geology!! i highly recommend getting your tickets for the tours ahead of time online rather than showing up day of. when we went to check in to our tour, it was the first one offered so we got there right when they opened and there was a massive line to buy tickets day of and we heard they then sold out! i am not surprised as the tours are excellent and small groups as to minimize disruption.

Jewel Cave was a really great stop for my family. There were five of us, two adults and three kids (14, 11, 9)- we had no issues with the quantity of steps and stairs, which are about 700, however are 60% down and 40% going up and not all at once but in manageable chunks (according to our ranger). The Scenic Tour lasts for 1.5 hours and was enchanting. All the different cave formations and passages were really amazing to see. If you are able, then I would definitely choose the Scenic Tour over the Discovery Tour as the DT only goes to the first large room in the cave while the ST goes throughout different areas. I would love to do the lantern Historic Tour if we ever return but that is only offered in the summer so wasn't an option for us.
Book your tour online ahead or you will be waiting in a very long line to get tickets, if you can get them at all.

Ranger Don was an awesome, fun guide through this beautiful cave system. The cave is such a majestic natural wonder! The walkways, stairs and platforms are professionally installed and very easy to navigate. Awesome experience!

The cave itself was great, although it's not exactly the gorgeous stuff you see in the videos.
Points:
1. Our ranger (Jeffrey?) didn't seem like he wanted to be there that day. If you can't answer questions (O2 content 400' below surface? Seismic recordings?) at least follow up on the surface with a geologist.
2. Tour rangers should not only be able to answer questions about THIS cave, but show interest in cave geology in general. Our guide said it wasn't his job to know anything about other caves.
3. Too many people per tour. The folks at the end couldn't hear our ranger at all.
4. There were folks on our tour who were in poor physical condition and struggled with the gazillion steps.
5. If you're in good shape you will actually enjoy and appreciate the steps.
The tour was priced fairly.
IMPORTANT: Get there early enough to watch the video BEFORE you take the tour. No reservations required for the 22 minute video, which was very informative

One of my favorite national monuments. The tour was spectacular. After visiting wind cave, we thought we’d be disappointed with Jewel, but it way WAY better. Go on the tour, you won’t be disappointed!
Custer State Park is a vast natural area with beautiful landscapes, hiking trails and accommodations surrounded by diverse flora & fauna. It is located near Mount Rushmore and is known for its stunning mountain drives, peaceful lakeside retreats, and incredible wildlife viewing opportunities comparable to Yellowstone National Park. Although there's an entry fee to access the park, it's definitely worth the cost. Custer State Park offers visitors an unforgettable experience of nature at its finest in the Black Hills region.
Custer State Park is AMAZING. Even though it’s not a national park it is very much worth all the time you can give it. The wildlife loop is a must do, along with stopping at all the scenic overlooks. The Needles highway is breathtaking too. We saw a ton of bison, along with some burros and a pronghorn. The landscape and wildlife are great.

$20 is fair admission for how much there is to see here, and is good for a whole week. I took the wildlife loop twice so the number of cars and people dwindled down. There were more bison in one place than I've ever seen (remember to not get out of your vehicle - they are dangerous, even when just grazing). A lot of people brought carrots and fruits to feed the burros. There are a bunch of pull-outs so you can stop for photos. The lakes are breathtaking but lots of people. If you like the water, consider staying at the lodges. The overlooks are beautiful. There's a good amount of signage. Park rangers do patrol in case you need help. Needles Highway requires patience. Read your maps so you know if your vehicle can make it through. I've visited Sylvan Lake before so I skipped it this time and went to Legion Lake instead. The Bison Center is finally open and, though small, packed with information and people willing and able to answer your questions. Please come and learn why conservation for the wildlife here is so important.

We loved this Park! Hadn't heard much about it but thoroughly enjoyed all the wildlife, breath taking views of the landscape and the pigtail, scenic drives. We saw herds of Buffalo, wild burros, pronghorn, deer, turkeys, rabbits, and prairie dogs all in the span of a few hours.

You are going to enjoy the beautiful view, take a couple of days here for there is a lot to see. My favorite was kayaking. I could stay there for hours. Get there early to get a stop or go later in the day. The park is open 24/7. You have to pay to get in but the pad is $20 for 7 days. There is wildlife in the area so don’t go near or feed the buffaloes. Don’t forget to go downtown and take with the painted buffaloes. Super cool.

Take the wildlife loop and the needles highway/Sylvan lake route! If you take the loop, there are tons of bison on the east side of the halfway point. Then the needles highway loop is beautiful with some challenging hikes. The cathedral spires trail looks simple but is no joke. Bring water and be prepared to climb. You're on the honor system to purchase a week or annual pass at one of the automated kiosks.

A must see! The wildlife alone makes it worth the drive and minimal cost, but the views are just chefs kiss! We saw over 100 bison and babies, dozens of pronghorn, elk, prairie dogs, donkeys and big horn sheep. Simply amazing!

This place is breathtaking. You're going to need plenty of space in your device for pictures. You're also going to need plenty of time to drive. There are several places along the highways to pull off safely for pictures. Go South for the Wildlife Loop, or go North for the Eye of the Needle. Personally, the Needle was my favorite. There are also plenty of lodges with dining available. However, they were all closed for the winter season during our trip.

Custer State Park is hands down the greatest state park in the United States. For my money, it has more attractions than some of the national parks. In the south, do not miss the Wildlife Scenic Road to view the largest bison herd outside of Yellowstone. Along the road you may spot wild turkeys, pronghorn and elk. In the fall, try to visit during the bison roundup, that is quite a site to see. In the northern part of the park be sure to drive the spectacular Needles Highway. From Sylvan Lake you can hike one the incredible trails to the best area in the Black Hills and South Dakota. Cathedral Spires, Sylvan Lake Trail, Sunday Gulch and Little Devil's Tower are incredible hikes to see. This park is worth 2-3 days for a more extensive visit. The campgrounds in the park are also very nice for being close to the sites of the park. The Needles Highway is closed during the winter so check conditions.

We stayed at the Blue Bell camping cabins the last week in June 2023. These cabins are AMAZING! We normally tent camp, but for an extra $10 a night, this was money well spent! Our week was wonderful! Weather could have been a little more cooperative, but hey can’t predict that! Extra shoutout to our camping hosts Mark & Kathy!! They were so awesome & patient with us on our last day!! These cabins would easily sleep a family of 4! I would highly recommend Custer State Park! The beauty & the wildlife, can’t be put into words!! I have NEVER stayed at a park that was kept this clean! Even the pit toilets were very clean! South Dakota, Mt Rushmore, Crazy House & the Badlands are must sees!! Every employee that we came in contact with were friendly, helpful & just a joy! Loved visiting this park!!! Although not a national park, it could easily be one given the scenic beauty and wildlife!! I highly recommend hiking the Sylvan Lake and Cathedral Spires trails. The wildlife loop offers great opportunities to view Bison, Prairie Dogs, and even some begging burros. One should definitely visit this park if visiting the Black Hills!

Beautiful park with breathtaking rock formations.
Things to know :

America the beautiful national parks pass does not cover parking fee.

Beautiful park. Many trails to hike and gorgeous views to see. Highly recommend looking into the different difficulties of hikes before going so you’re not caught unawares. Also, the Buffalo Safari Ride was worth it for the informational part about the park and animals.

I love Custer State Park. The campgrounds are beautiful and spacious. The lodges and cabins are rustic and welcoming. By far one of our favorite places to stay in the Black Hills. If you love the outdoors and viewing wildlife this is the place to come.

Had a great time a Custer! The wildlife loop didn’t disappoint; and the northern end of needles hwy was a sight to behold. Great views and cool tunnels. Lots of wildlife around: we saw bighorn, bison, and deer. Great time .

Custer State park is a park that is worthy of being a national park. Good on South Dakota for keeping it local. This place is nothing short of Amazing. The views the Bison and the scale. This place is huge. This is a must visit spot if you're in the area or even close by. This will be a family favorite for years to come.

We went in May and had a great turnout for our first road trip and camping with our dog. The views were beyond amazing. Campsite staff were great and bathroom were always clean. Stores had nice merch and necessity selection. We hiked trail 9 up to Black Elk Peak and down. We did Lover’s Leap. We took trail 9 up to Black Elk Peak, but took trail 4 down the second time. Needles Highway, Iron Mt Road, and the Wildlife Loop Road are all worth the time. If no animals, at least a mostly peaceful drive, if not too busy. We had 3 full days, but I recommend more!

We did two different loops at Custer State Park. Wildlife and iron mountain loop saw at least three different lakes. Lakota has faces in the rocks. There are lots of areas to pull over to take in the views. Go slow! It's worth taking it all in. We stayed at Morning Star Lodge just outside of Deadwood SD

Went here with my brother and mom and it did not disappoint! It took us a bit of searching to get there, but once we did it was well worth it. We saw plenty of animals after going on the animal loop road. If you want to see some cool animals with your family close up this is the place to go!

We stayed in the Tatanka cabin at Custer State park. The cabin was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our huge family. Custer Park was very beautiful especially with the light snow that we had. The wildlife on the wildlife loop was especially cool to drive through!

Breathtaking! I recommend stopping at the visitor center first to watch the short video and talk to the staff. It was snowing when I visited so the gentleman was helpful in knowing what roads were closed due to weather and where the best place to see the wildlife were. I drove the wildlife loop road in the morning and ended up coming back in the evening to do it again. I can’t wait to visit again during the season to take advantage of what I missed!

Best state park I've ever been too. I can't believe this doesn't have 5 stars. The hikes are phenomenal and the terrain is so diverse. Even if you aren't into hiking there's a lake, scenic drives, plenty of visitor centers, easy walks, and a huge nature loop where you can see hundreds of bison. We also had some fantastic barbecue food at Sylvan lake. If you're in South Dakota, you have to visit this park.

This area was so fabulous! We went here yesterday (In February). It was a gorgeous day with multiple herds of buffalo around and some bighorn sheep. We also saw burros, antelope, and deer. The scenery was breathtaking with the rolling hills and forests. If you like to take a nice drive, I would absolutely recommend it.

If you want to see some cool bison up close, this is the place to go. They are impressive. Depending on what direction you take into the park, the road can be very windy. There is a fee, so be prepared to pay. The visitor center is sort of helpful although the park ranger gave us wronng directions to the bison and set us back about a half hour.

We loved Iron mountain road into Custer, Needles highway was also great. We saw lots of wildlife; bison, big horn, mountain goats and wild turkeys. Sylvan Lake was awesome, we're headed back tomorrow, pictures don't do it justice.
Sylvan Lake is an ideal location for outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, hiking, picnicking and rock climbing on the large outcroppings. It offers walking paths and stunning views that make it a highly recommended place to visit. The park entrance fee is $20, but the gift shop prices are overpriced. Interestingly, Sylvan Lake was featured in a movie called National Treasure 2 where one can find the rock they filmed on.
We just happened upon this lake while driving through the Black Hills to another destination. We stopped, in awe of the view and spent a good amount of time there. We actually went to 2 lakes and I can't remember which pictures are from which but they were both in the same general area... Not too far apart. As you will see in my pictures, it was a little chilly out there that morning in mid July 2015. You'll also see a picture of my brothers in law reading a note that we found in a bottle that was floating on the lake. The bottle also contained $5!!! 😀

It takes around 30-60 minutes to walk around the whole lake, depends on how much time you take photos and breaks. Very scenic lake.

Sylvan lake was gorgeous! We enjoyed the hike around it. The parking lot was quite busy, but we managed to find a spot.

We visit this lake during spring, what an amazing experience with the lake half frozen and beautiful reflections of the stone. Must visit if you are around Rapid city.

I love the walking paths and the views! I would highly recommend that you visit this place. It is $20 to get into the park, and the gift shop is overpriced, but otherwise Sylvan was a very pleasant experience. I also recently found out that Sylvan lake was used in movie called National Treasure 2. You can find the rock that they filmed on in one of the pictures I attached.

Hard to beat Sylvan Lake when exploring Custer State Park in the Black Hills. Sylvan Lake was created when Theodore Reder built a dam across Sunday Gulch Creek in 1882 and offers wonderful picnic areas, rock climbing, small boat rental, and beautiful rocky vistas. Also a great base camp to explore Black Elk Peak and The Needles. Check it out!

If you are going to Custer State park, go to Sylvan Lake. Parking could be a challenge but it is a beautiful place to visit. There is a loop trail around the lake and other trails nearby.

Beautiful place! The entrance fee is $10 per car that you can use for 7 days. If you have any of the National passes they don’t apply here. The visitor center seems a bit empty and the bathrooms were somewhat dirty when I was there later in the day- in the evening. I think they were having trouble with the bathrooms because there was water by the bathroom door and the smell was unpleasant. The parking was okay as far as cars since it was a bit rainy one day I was there. You can do a hike around the lake which is gorgeous. You can climb the huge rocks on the water too. Went another day with better weather and the parking lot was full. There’s other trials you can do/ including Black Elk Peek.

This is a beautiful lake in the Black Hills of South Dakota. An easy hike will let you experience the entire beauty of the lake.

Really beautiful especially when the water is clear and reflective. There's a lodge with food and amenities here and you can spend some time hiking around the lake. It's along the needles highway so hit up both!

Very quiet relaxing stop. The hike around and behind the lake is more moderate than beginner and definitely not wheelchair accessible. There are several other hikes available, plenty of parking, cabins for rent, as well as a gift store and restrooms.

My favorite lake in America! So pretty and the rocks for climbing are super fun. Rock climbing tours available if that's your thing or doing it alone is very possible. Climbing up and the view of the lake is just as awesome. If I am in Custer this is a must stop for me even if it's just for a look!!!!!

I went with my girlfriend and dog over a long weekend. The lake was frozen over, but it was beautiful. Would highly recommend going during the winter as there were hardly any other hikers out on the trails.

Definitely a beautiful place to see. It was off season so I didn't experience what others are saying of too crowded. Clean bathroom to use before heading to Needles Hwy. It was very peaceful and calm.

My favorite thing to do is kayaking and Houston enjoyed the water also. We saw other people kayaking and paddle boarding. Some were jumped off the cliffs into the water. It was beautiful. The Park has other lakes to kayak at so we plan on doing those also.

Located just inside the entrance to Custer State Park, Lake Sylvan is one of the most picturesque and scenic areas I've ever been to! The only downside is that it attracts a lot of people, but we spent the day swimming/paddle boarding/hiking/fishing and just taking in the scenery in this beautiful area.

It's not an easy hike, not a baby stroller walk. Magnificent view. It could have a better sign to guide the direction. We were briefly lost in the wood, thanks for the holiday, there are plenty of tourists around.

One of our favorite stops while exploring Mount Rushmore area, Custer State Park and all. The scenery is spectacular, and there is a handicapped accessible trail around the lake. Nice gift shop with refreshments, and clean restrooms.

A very scenic lake in Custer SP. The hike around the lake is scenic and an easy hike for families. The view today in the snow was spectacular.
Jeff Anderson — Google review
Pretty lake with hiking trails. The trail around the lake gets confusing when you get to a crossroads with another trail. You have to climb up a lot of rock steps, and once on the top, there's hardly any indication of where to go. I climbed back down and back up, and I finally saw a hint of blue paint on a rock. I followed that and did a little rock climbing and found where the trail continues. Definitely needs a new sign at the top of the rocks. It was frustrating trying to figure out where to go and carrying my dog down and back up the steps. The store was closed for the season.

If I could live on this lake… I would. It was so peaceful and beautiful! I love Custer state park so much and when you pay for a entrance fee it’s good for 7 days and that’s awesome because we did go back again and again!
The Needles Eye Tunnel is a narrow passageway located on the Needles Highway, near a tall granite spire shaped like the eye of a needle. It's an exciting place to visit and offers breathtaking views. Visitors can witness large tour buses passing through the tunnel and may also encounter mountain goats waiting for photo opportunities. The area is perfect for taking pictures and exploring some of the local rocks.
Amazing and breathtaking views! You won’t want to take a very wide vehicle (not sure our dually would make it). Very narrow in some areas. But so scenic and unlike anything else you have seen!

Words can not describe just how amazing the Needles Highway is. This thrilling road runs through Custer State Park, but the entry fee is worth every penny. I entered the Needles Highway off U. S. Highway 385 just a few miles from the Crazy Horse Memorial. Soon after entering the park the amazing views began. Do not do this drive unless you have plenty of time because you will be constantly stopping for photos and to take in the wonderful views. Sylvan Lake great but just a prelude to what is to come as you wind your way through the rocky landscape toward Cathedral Spires. Along the way you will move slowly through the Needles Eye Tunnel which is simple unbelievable. The road handles traffic in both directions but the tunnel is only one lane, so there may be a considerable wait during peak tourist season. The tunnel is a little over 8-feet wide and about 12-feet tall so it is a tight fit, but I did witness a full size tour bus make it through with inches to spare. I traveled the Needles Highway all the way through from Highway 385 to U. S. Highway 16-A. Even Though it is only distance of about 20 or 25 miles the journey took me a little over two hours as I was treated to spectacular beauty at every turn and kept stopping for pictures. Along the way, I saw a variety of wildlife including deer, a bear and buffalo. This is one of the most amazing drives in the country and should be done when you have plenty of time.

Of course it didn't match Instagram hype 😂 but we pretty much had the needles highway to ourselves so the tunnels and views were awesome. We loved the whole trip and Custer SP exceeded our expectations.

Oh my GOSH! This was exciting. We not only saw a huge tour bus get through that tiny tunnel (to applause I might add), when we started to enter there were two mountain goats waiting for their photo opp. Beautiful!

Thunderstorms and a deluge of biblical proportions met us at the Wyoming/South Dakota border, and didn’t ease up until the following morning. Regardless, the scenery is astounding! Straight outta vintage black&white cowboys and Indians films (or Jarmuschs’ Dead Man). Hordes of tourists and vehicles is the only downside.

Definitely a place to stop and look around. Take your time to get on some of the rocks and take pictures. Read about Needle Eye. Drive through the tunnel. Enjoy the fresh air. A must see place.

The best part of driving along the scenic driveway is going through the needles tunnel, which is truly unique. The tunnel is a one lane section of the road that passes right through granite rock. The tunnel is quite narrow. Make sure that you check out the size restrictions. The tunnel is less than two miles from Sylvan Lake Lodge. It is a great picture spot.

This entire area is stunningly beautiful. The tunnels on this road are crazy... they're one lane, and the drivers can make some interesting decisions, so use caution. It's a great trip.

Beautiful area in the Black Hills of South Dakota. This is a must-see if you are in this part of the country. Expect slow-moving traffic and do not attempt this road if you have a larger than normal vehicle without checking clearance first.

This was a very fun ride for our family to ride down this road after we left Mt Rushmore. Be sure you stop at the pull offs and check out the tunnels on the Needles Highway

Beautiful scenery! Very narrow road with 2-way traffic. The 2 tunnels are single lane only however, we found people to be very patient & willing to take turns. We saw numerous deer & a mountain goat (next to the road on top of a rock pinnacle). Take time to stop at the different pullouts - the views are stunning! We went thru the tunnels with our Winnebago Travato without any difficulties.

If you're looking for an amazing scenic drive in South Dakota, Needles Highway in Custer State Park is a must-do. And if you're lucky enough to visit during the fall, the Needle Tunnel is a truly special sight.
As you approach the tunnel, you'll be greeted by towering rock formations that resemble giant needles. The tunnel itself is narrow and winding, with walls that are just inches away from your car on either side. But it's the views from inside the tunnel that are truly breathtaking.
As you drive through, you'll feel like you're on another planet. The rock formations are so otherworldly, and the fall colors are simply stunning. The tunnel is also a great place to see wildlife, such as mountain goats and deer.
If you're looking for a truly unique and memorable experience, I highly recommend visiting Needle Tunnel in Custer State Park during the fall. It's an experience you'll never forget.
Here are some specific things I loved about Needle Tunnel:
* **The amazing views:** The views from inside the tunnel are simply incredible. You can see towering rock formations, lush forests, and meadows filled with wildflowers.
* **The feeling of being on another planet:** The rock formations in Needles Highway are so unique and otherworldly. It really feels like you're driving through another planet.
* **The beautiful fall colors:** The fall colors in Needles Highway are absolutely stunning. The leaves on the trees turn a brilliant red, orange, and yellow, creating a truly breathtaking sight.
* **The massive rocky boulders:** The boulders in Needles Highway are simply massive. They're some of the largest boulders I've ever seen.
If you're planning a trip to Custer State Park, be sure to add Needle Tunnel to your itinerary. It's an experience you won't soon forget.
The Black Hills National Forest, spanning over 1.2 million acres across South Dakota and Wyoming, is a magnificent natural reserve that offers breathtaking views of the Buffaloes and diverse wildlife. Its forested terrain and mountains provide ample opportunities for hiking trails with plenty of wild animals to spot along the way. The park's Wildlife Coaster Loop Road is highly recommended, and it would take at least two to three days to explore this vast reserve fully.
There’s no cost to entry. This park will take at least 2 to 3 days to completely see it. Highly recommend the Wildlife Coaster Loop Road. A lot of hikes trail and a lot of wild animal.

Extraordinary views with an amazing scenery of the Buffaloes! Black Hills National Forest is located in southwestern South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, United States. The forest has an area of over 1.25 million acres and is managed by the Forest Service. The forestry personnel are NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL!!! Go figure that one out… almost ruined my vacation considering I drove from Miami Florida!!

Nice lush green away from hustling city life... it's an escape from all chaos of life. We went to Custer and from there went to visit black hills. Morning sunrise views are mesmerizing. Also we took hot air balloon ride to see black hills forest from top. Would definitely recommend visiting. Very peaceful, quite since not much crowd like California.
