Smokey Bears birthplace and burial place. Great place to stop for an hour or so to learn about fire fighting, Forest fires, and of course Smokey! The only recommendation we would make is to always have merchandise available! We love Smokey Bear stuff and when we found out the store was closed we were bummed!
For travel tips, camping spots and just great fun follow us on all platforms @theggoldenroad.

Here we get a nostalgic return to Old Smokey the Bear and his story. But it remains relevant the educational value of safety in the forests and fire safety in particular. This is a beautiful location with a wild plant and flower garden in front of the museum with markers to indicate distinctive species. For just 2$ you can tour the Smokey Bear Museum which is very well kept and provides an educational tour of fire safety.

We stopped in Capitan, NM on our way through to visit the park. We got there about 15 minutes before closing and went into the gift shop and bought a couple of souvenirs. We didn't realize that the park was about to close until the cashiers told us. Props to them for speedily checking us out and pointing us to the park entrance. We were able to make it in before closing, use the restrooms, and briefly peruse the center before we went out into the park. We were able to take our time in the park, as it had a one-way turn style exit, and we did not have to re-enter the park center. The park was well maintained and easily accessible. We were able to take photos and visit Smokey's final resting place.

I hadn't planned on stopping here, but I'm glad I did; it's a lovely memorial. I especially enjoyed the letters from children to Smokey the Bear.
Importantly, while it's quite inexpensive, they only take cash or checks, no cards.
Andrew Metzger — Google review
What a great place! Never knew Smokey Bear was a real bear. They have a lot of displays and videos, vintage posters and all the media on Smokey since the beginning.
Also, when you walk thru the garden you'll come to Smokeys final resting place where he was buried in 1976.
There's also a beautiful bronze tribute to Fallen New Mexico wild fire fighters.
See my photos.
Admission is a mere $2 or $3 .

Drove 900 Miles just to see this place and it didn't disappoint. As soon as I walked in the door I cried because it's so overwhelming and special. Mary was so helpful telling us about the park and how to make the best use of our time while we were there. So much history. The film on Smokey and the forests was great to see. Very educational. Can't wait to return one day. A must see for any Smokey Bear fan.

Went on 2nd of July, they had a wonderful parade. Lots of new and old fire engines.
Oso, the restaurant was fabulous! Wait staff was perfect, they hustled. Catfish and sweet potato fries were delicious. My partner had their famous green chili cheeseburger, exquisite.
Smokey Bear Museum was very educational. Delightful memorabilia and a short film. Smokey's grave was very nicely done. We were also surprised with a beautiful dedication for Firefighters. $2 donation is well worth it.
Definitely visit the shops in town. Great souvieners, homemade ice cream, and fudge!

There are places in the United States that are seldomly thought about but once visited contain such magnitude of magnificence it will stay with you forever. The Smokey Bear historical Park is absolutely one of those.
Here, you will enjoy a mini museum on an American legend - Smokey the Bear. He was REAL. And in the beautiful garden you can actually visit his burial spot. Beautiful. Absolutely precious.
Park ranger Mary gave us her time and endless knowledge on all things forestry. Her love and passion is infectious. Thank you, Mary.

This was like walking back into my childhood. It was amazing. There is an entire museum dedicated to Smokey Bear. The ad campaign, the bear cub rescue, forest fires in general and an outdoor walking trail with the majority of New Mexican floral regions represented.
Steven Holland — Google review
Beautiful museum for dear little bear who became a cultural icon for fire prevention.
Lots of items from the 60's and later that have Smokey in the. Also original photos.
Grounds with exhibits but did not get to see that part.
Robert Cunningham — Google review
This is a cool place to learn about the history of Smokey the Bear (he was real) and the US's efforts to prevent forest fires. It was only $2 per person to enter and you get to watch a short film (10 mins), look around the museum, and visit Smokey's grave around the walkway outside.
Ben Atha — Google review
What a wonderful tribute to the awesome folks who keep us safe from forest fires! Focusing on the little bear who was saved during the big Capitan fire, this "Smokey the Bear" museum is a tribute to those brave folks. Plus, it has a very nice museum, gift shop, and garden walk. The folks in this town are really friendly, even in hot weather. Thr park is situated in the sweet town of Capitan, where there are no strangers, and everyone is ready to help. The restroom was perfectly clean, and the museum was bright and very interesting. Dogs are not allowed in the garden walk.
Cindy Rhodes — Google review
Highly enjoyed the visit here. Lots of informative information about the origins and history of the real Smokey Bear. Great place to bring the kids. There is also an outdoor walking park with a boardwalk.
Matt Carmichael — Google review
Really interesting museum about the history of Smokey Bear, anti-forest fire ad campaigns, and wilderness fire fighting. It had a great small museum exhibit and video and a short boardwalk with native plants and more information.

Very Fun and Awesome Museum! Very educational and lots of cool memorabilia! Made me feel like a kid again! Clean bathrooms and great parking! Lots to do around the museum!

What a wonderful little place. Staff is nice a knowledgeable. Next to a cute fun park. The museum as a whole will take you less than 30 minutes.
Heather French — Google review
Cute place with a great history lesson on Smokey Bear. Lots of historical artifacts and photos. This is the original Smokey Bear's resting place.
A MUST VISIT! I didn't realize how much I could learn about Smokey the Bear and wildfires. They have tons of information on both within the museum, plus a video you can watch. The park portion of it is beautiful and it was really neat being able to see where he is buried. I learned that 9/10 wildfires are started by humans, ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WILD FIRES!
Lex B. — Google review
This was an interesting side trip for us when we were in Ruidoso. So much info stuffed into such a small package! Museum for Smokey and how fighting wildfire has evolved over the years and a gift shop full of a private memorabilia collection that shows the history and evolution of Smokey through the years. I highly recommend if you are in the area!
Gregory Behm — Google review
Great gift shop with some memorabilia. The young man working was very helpful. Pointed out some items we would have overlooked. It's overwhelming all of the cool old Smokey Bear items.
Princess Smartypants — Google review
What a museum and gift shop! Smokey the Bear has been memorialized in such a special way. The history here and his story is amazing and will luckily live on in our hearts forever. The museum is a must. Then you exit out into the gardens. Beautiful and also contain his burial site. After strolling through the gardens you exit out to the nearby gift shop. Amazing memorabilia and special gifts are available to purchase. Nat was waiting patiently. Her knowledge and love for both Smokey and the town was impressive. This is a must stop for all ages.

The store keep was so sweet! Very knowledgeable about Hot Foot Teddy. Cute little gift shop. Not tons of stuff, but has tshirts and little trinkets and teddy bears for kids. Convenient location.
Jenna — Google review
Super cute and worth stopping. If you have fun memories of our dear little smoky the bear then this is a must stop for you. It's not on the way and it's not convenient but also the drive through that area is pretty beautiful.
Lots of cool exhibits and items for sale as well.
Also grounds with exhibits outside.

Great museum! Very informative and caring employees. The museum is small but very clean, enjoyable, educational and is packed full of memorabilia from years passed. Really enjoyed my time there, the park behind the museum was also fantastic. I would recommend this museum to everyone!
Ernesto Casas — Google review
Such a wonderful gem! Has the history of Smokey the bear with indoor and outdoor exhibits. A hispanic woman working today was super friendly and knowledgeable. She gave me good information on the park and surrounding areas. A must see.
An amazing attraction with multiple phases of history! Started as an Army fort with multiple famous people stationed there including Black Jack Pershing and Kit Carson. Eventually transitioned to a POW camp for Germans on WWII and a TB hospital. Had several other purposes before becoming a museum. Well worth the visit, definitely stop by!
David Meyer — Google review
We stumbled across this site while looking for a hike. Its a fantastic place that is working hard to save history. We ended up spending almost 3 hours walking around, going into the open buildings, and the visitors center. The museum and visitors center is really well done and the volunteers a wealth of information. Ended up doing the cemetery hike which was lovely. About 2.5 miles long
Kyra Pruett — Google review
What a great place! So much history and in a beautiful setting.
Rebecca Pall — Google review
A very important historical site. Great volunteers greet you upon arrival and the short film is a walk through history. Pic is of the lovely chapel.

Great piece of American history. There is a fantastic small museum and then several original buildings to walk through. They are in various stages of reconstruction, with some returned to almost original states, some representing the tuberculosis hospital stage and some still ravaged by time and various construction phases.
Steven Holland — Google review
Very informative museum. They let go in the hospital just down stairs. We been to hospital Haunted tour 3yrs ago. Was Scary but would to take the tour again.
Carol Rodriguez — Google review
Love the history of this Fort, and the Veterans cemetery, where my husband is buried, is a testimonial to those who have served our country throughout history. I pray that others feel the same and donate to preserve this historical site.
Lisa Frankland — Google review
I didn't actually take the tour yet because I stumbled upon this by accident. It's the sort of place I like to research before I go through but I did snag some pictures of the area. I'll update this review when I go back. Insta = @jordankreationz for more pics.
Donna Jordan — Google review
An immensely well kept and preserved historic site with original buildings from years past, some that still show the passage of time. Although I arrived late and was unable to do a full tour of the place, it was interesting to see the buildings, the barracks, officers quarters, medical area, etc and felt like you took a leap back in time.
Manoj Nayak — Google review
Really enjoyed walking through the open buildings. Even rang the church bell. This Fort has a lot of interesting history.
Barb Drewis — Google review
Very cool place to go check out. A ton of history at this fort. We really enjoyed being able to walk into some of the buildings and see exhibits that took you back in time.
The fort does a great job at telling the history, along with pictures and pieces to help with the visual including trying on old uniforms and ringing the church bell. Inside the museum there is a little gift shop and you can watch a 10 minute video telling the history of the fort and the area.
$7/person with kids under 16 free. This is definitely worth going to see if you are in the area. Restrooms on site as well with benches scattered throughout the fort.
Honeymooners Offroad Adventures — Google review
Amazing place. Pure history. Very kind people in the Visitor Center. Good gift shop.
I hope to return
Make sure you stop.
90min for a walk around and photos and reading and dreaming and gift shop and restrooms... smile
Sven Vöge — Google review
There are certainly some very interesting stories to be told here. Hopefully the opportunity will come that this old fort can be brought back to life and that people will come to learn from it. Also there are some interesting points to go hiking which I did not get a chance to do on this visit, but would definitely return at another time to explore.
Herbert Hutchinson — Google review
Fort Stanton has some of the most beautiful architecture. They have added collage type slide shows in a few of the rooms that show historic pictures from those rooms. One of the medical buildings has beautiful art hanging in the hallways. If you are a NM resident you can enter for Free on the first Sunday of the month. Other times it is $7 for an adult.

I had a great experience visiting this place with my family. It’s really impressive and interesting. You have the chance to enter different buildings, all well preserved. The staff is great. I went with three children and we felt very welcomed. The kids enjoyed the experience too! Highly recommended.

I went with my younger brother and older sister it was a great time had by all. If you love history of our country great place to visit
Good place for kayaking. Reservations are required for entrance. Parking fee is reasonable ($10 per vehicle).
Hasib Chowdhury — Google review
The hours posted are not accurate. It’s otherwise a nice location. There’s no hours on the building either so no source is reliable if you were hoping for a rental. Try calling before committing your family to plans.
Bethany S — Google review
Grindstone lake is awesome. Although the Damn House was closed when we visited, the area is simply amazing. What makes it great is it's proximity to mid town Ruidoso. It's about a 5 minute drive. Boating and fishing are available and you can rent kayaks on the lake. An on the lake water recreation area is also available with an inflatable rock climbing feature. I believe the water rec area is $20 per person.
Steve Jim — Google review
The hours are inaccurate. We have tried to come multiple times and it is closed. Spoke to some locals and they said it's only open during certain times of the year. It would be nice to have the information accurately displayed so I can plan family trips accordingly
Nicole Aldaco — Google review
Absolutely beautiful. Great hiking trail. I could spend the day with a picnic and fishing pole.
Wendy Harden — Google review
My family and I were staying in Ruidoso and we were there from Las Cruces New Mexico getting my daughter from NMSU. We went out to grindstone for fishing loved it me and my daughter tried to hike the mountains but couldn't do it LOL but the fishing was great the weather was great it was a very nice Lake Big Lake full of people only said things Campground wasn't open there's a lot of people pulling in with campers and they had to turn around to leave because the campground was closed but other than that it was really nice like I said Lake was full bunch of people fishing caught a lot of trout

Beautiful lake and nice hike trail.
A Golden — Google review
Beautiful lake and forest combination. This place is good for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. There is no alcohol permitted but I saw many guests that had brought alcohol anyways. It has bathrooms with running water which is great! It is very busy in the summer. 4 stars because you have to haul all of your belongings from parking to the lake. So, if you go far around the lake to find a spot you have to haul your ice chest, canopy, and other belongings. Otherwise, great experience and beautiful views. Our family had a great time!
Kristen Barreras — Google review
The lake is beautiful. Nice waters and super awesome hiking/biking trails all around. You can do it til your heart is content. The only downside is there is A LOT of people there and unfortunately they leave their trash behind. Take the trails to avoid the crowds. During two bike rides I didn’t encounter anyone on them. Such a shame because they offer amazing views.
Oliver Smith — Google review
What a great place to swim, paddle, fish, bike, or just hang out! Very family friendly and great for picnicking. There's a path all the way around the lake, so there's plenty of lake shore to find a secluded spot for hanging out. The dam is off limits, so you will need to hike or bike around on the trails to get to the far side. There are port-o-lets and trailer-based restrooms on the parking lot side and a ways down the path on the same side of the lake if you follow the wide path, but it is very primitive on the far side with only a single-track hiking/biking trail. We visited in July and the water was cool and refreshing (I would guess about 70°F). Entry fee is $5 per car, but free if you bike in. There's plenty of parking, but if you visit on the weekends, be aware that you may need a reservation. There's a boat launch and boathouse where they rent all sorts of watercraft, from paddle boats (leg-powered), to canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards. When we were there, there was also a food truck serving pizzas and other such food. The lake does not allow motor-powered craft, but I believe that electric fishing boat motors are allowed. Best to check, though. COVID-19: Masks are required, but in my experience, once in, not many people follow the rule.
Dan Sorak — Google review
Nice Lake at Ruidoso, NM. In Jan 2021, when we were there, some renovation works on road, base ongoing. Hopefully, after the work, whole place will be more charming. Boating was restricted due to COVID. Overall awesome lake nearby, especially who lives in El Paso TX.
The main beautiful building is wonderful to shop and taste with kids across the street is a great smaller tasting bar with outdoor seating. Cigar cabinet has amazing choices! Park behind smaller bar. This place is a must is you love wine, cheese, meats and fire pit seating!

Become immortal…drink wine at @noisywaterwinery 🍷 My humans did a wine tasting and loved every single wine they tried! The charcuterie board was amazing and filling🧀🍇 I got so much love from everyone there, it is super dog friendly!❤️ This location is in the heart of Ruidoso, which has a relaxing vibe where you could stay all day to sip, then shop! You have to check out the Noisy Water Winery. -@brewskibrewreviews

Had a wonderful time at Noisy Water, trying a wine tasting for a very fair price, and was served as soon as we walked in.
Definitely visit if you find yourself wanting wine in Ruidoso.

Great winery! I enjoyed the wine tasting. The girl working this morning was super friendly, informative, and made it a great experience. They have an excellent selection of wines & a beautiful environment.
Sydney — Google review
This was a nice establishment with a very nice staff. I expected my charcuterie to come out on wood or a board, but got a tray instead. Also, I do a bit of wine tasting and no one in my party got a buzz. Maybe the pours are smaller, maybe the time between wine taste visits were more spread out, or maybe we all increased out tolerance at the same time.

Great place. The green chili wine must be tried. We did a sampling with a cheese board and it was perfect. Really nice and relaxed atmosphere, and a great location on the main drag. Absolutely worth a visit. The staff was warm and friendly, highly recommend if it's your thing.

Wine tasting and beer flight with a very well sorted cheese tray that was delicious! Various wines and beers to select from. Very well presented by our Sales Associate Esiah who was super informative and very attentive. She made our experience much better, thank you Esiah. Ask for Esiah.

We had a really good experience here on a previous trip to Ruidoso so we just knew we had to stop in again.
Unfortunately this trip, the service was not good. We tried to order at the counter but were directed to sit in a section with wait staff. The waitress initially took our order then promptly ignored us the rest of the time. We had to wave and hunt her down every time we needed anything at all.
The good news is that the baguette board is still delicious (even better than my last visit!) and they have a great selection of beers and wines.
Karmen Kiler — Google review
Stopped by this winery after shopping. This place did not disappoint. Janet was very knowledgeable on the wines and suggested the ones we would like based on our tastes. We would definitely come back for more wine and cheese. This place has a very good chill vibe. Try out the Demigod room when there. We ordered the baguette platter, which was really good. If you are unsure of which cider to get, try the cider flight. The pomegranate one I liked the best!!!

Came here for wine tastings & by far the best charcuterie board paired with excellent wine. Thanks & Cheers!🥂🧀

My wife and I went here in 2020. We LOVED it. The views, the service, the food, the wine, everything was just perfect! Highly suggest when you are in Ruidoso!

New Mexico grown and made wine. In old town. Kind of pricey for this type of wine. I had a Cabernet it was very good. But 23 for a glass was a tad much. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly.

Cool place. They offer a great selection of wines and beers, cheese, veggie, baguettes, salsa, and charcuterie boards. Nice place for shopping. Super nice hostess. We will definitely come here again! 🍷 🍺 🧀 🥖 Leah our server was amazing. She was the best! Ask for Leah!! Wine was very good. Love coming here!
Pillow's Funtrackers is an exciting amusement park that offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages. These include three different go-kart tracks, an 18-hole mini-golf course, bumper boats, a challenging maze and arcade games. The park is reasonably priced and provides excellent value for money with tricky holes on the golf course and thrilling rides on the pro track that caters to adults looking for high-speed karting experiences.
The family has a blast here. $7 a ticket for the go karts which is a fair price for what you get. For a large family things like this can get expensive. They have a tiny track for littles, a medium track for everyone including double riding cars, and a pro track. They have mini golf, bumper boats, games, and snacks.
Emily Porteous Martinez — Google review
The go kart track was great, but it wasn’t smooth it actually was pretty bumpy. If you have a kid that’s smaller, and that can’t ride on the bigger one don’t worry they have a track just for little ones. The bumper cars were great if you like the feeling of getting bumped you probably shouldn’t ride it because it doesn’t even feel like you got hit (required height is at least 40 inches). The put put was great really fun, and some great mechanics. They also have some snacks there not many I wouldn’t eat a meal there. On the go kart the breaks don’t work that well also the top speed is at a ok speed I didn’t ride on the pro one though. They have a Vr system with air hockey, and a gold digging crane you might want to bring quarters because the air hockey, and the gold digging crane need quarters. Hope this was helpful 😁
GamesWith_Fam — Google review
Everything is really fun! Great place to bring kids. Cool atmosphere outside in the mountains.
Only giving it 4 stars because 1) the mini-golf course is too hard. So many of the holes' surfaces are uneven, to the extent that if you miss your shot, the ball will roll ALL the way back to the start, or down some other slope. My son and I are generally decent mini-golf putters, but many of the surfaces here are too slanted, and our balls would just not stop rolling.
And 2), I think it's a bit expensive compared to similar entertainment centers I've been to. It would be nice if they had an "unlimited play" package (like 2 or 3 hours) instead of requiring tickets for each attraction.
Ian Strascina — Google review
The family and I loved this place!!! Great rides and the pro track is a must for adults seeking really fast go cart experience. Learn how to drift is all I can say. Everybody in Ruidoso should go here.
James Benson — Google review
Soo much fun!! We went everyday we were in Ruidoso. The kids working there are great, they were always super nice and friendly and willing to help out the little kids. I recommend getting the $100 deal they offer, you won't be disappointed.

We had a blast at this park! There was so much to do. Go karts, gem mining, VR games, a walk around maze, and the excavator was a HIT with our little guy.👊🏻
Danielle Cielencki — Google review
What a fun place!! Kids and I had a great time. Bought $100 worth of tickets for our 4, 11, and 20 year olds. And guests. Lasted several hours. The 4 yr old rode the go cart track with me and she even got to race her own car on the Turtle track. I didn’t even know that she knew how to drive lol. She was tall enough to do the bumper cars, which are single passenger only. But not the traditional style bumper cars. They were more like bumper boats on land so that collisions weren’t even felt, which was great for her first time. The medium track(fun track?) was a blast for all of us. It has 4 turns and most of the carts are evenly matched. It’s 5 minutes for one ride and one ride is one ticket. Mini golf was good. Air hockey was fun. No long lines!! Parking was easy. Staff was friendly and helpful! We will be going again next time we visit.

We had a blast here! We got the $100 tickets and it was well worth it! Great thing about it is if you purchase then it’s good for the whole weekend! The staff was friendly even in the caos of a full park. We did VR, gulf, the maze, the gio rocks panning and the fun track. The maze got competitive but it was a fun time over all! Highly recommend for the whole family.

We had fun playing this course. My husband and my two children played this course. We enjoyed ourselves. It was not too bad priced. We spent about an hour on the course. It does have some tricky holes. It was a great way to spend some time together. There are also other things to do at this establishment.

This is an amazing place for families or older folk!
There are 3 go kart tracks. 1 for smaller children(with a parent riding options)one for kids and teens, 1 for adults and bigger teens. It’s the pro track, it is honestly slick and pretty damn fun.
My dad took me there, I am 30 years old and he is 50. It was still super fun for us in the environment is also nice. So that should be a good enough accurate representation of how pleasant it is for two adult men!
Miniature golf, bumper boats and a large maze that is like 5000 square feet!
Ticket boots has deals, you can do 100 activities for a good cost!!
Amazing time and would highly recommend this for a quick activity or a fun afternoon! Beautiful environment, very nice and serene setup while you are enjoying your day!
Jonathan Kennedy — Google review
We have been going here since the 90s. Always a great time and now wirh updated adventures. The "ticket special" (currently 20 $7 tickets for $100) is the best deal for a group or even for just a few kiddos. Several things to do!
Nice experience! 5$ general admission with no cover from sun or rain or 15$ and up for cover/tables. We didn't need the cover because we would just go inside to look around and place bets. Then go outside to see the race. If placing bets, you'll have to buy a catalog for 5$. It's a must do and fun!
Lorelle Carey — Google review
First time visiting this place and I was impressed. The General Admission parking and the Casino parking are free. I visited to see a free concert. Little Joe y la Familia was SO good. The concert was held in a big white tent that is closer to the casino parking lot. All the employees were helpful and kind. There are port-a-potties outside the tent. They offer food, drinks, and alcoholic beverages there. They had chairs and tables (first come first serve) and a dance floor. The parking is very hectic, but there are sufficient amount of spaces, you just have to walk a bit. There are bathrooms inside the casino, too, that is directly across the tent. I definitely recommend the concert events.

The track is very well maintained. The stables could use some updating but this is a beautiful facility!

Love this track. Beautiful Lincoln County. Pine trees, mountains, afternoon showers, evening lightning lights up the sky AND I get to watch quarter horses and thoroughbreds run..... wait... I can bet on those horses too, what is this place? Heaven? No, Ruidoso Downs which is pretty close to heaven.
Charles McDonald — Google review
It was my first time at a horse race! It was so much fun! We sat, we stood by the rails, we bet. We did it all. Everyone was nice and one of the horses came up to us and we were able to pet it. They are definitely people oriented. They want you to have a great time. The bar area is clean and the atmosphere amazing! Will he going back!
Samantha Garland — Google review
This race track is kind of a dump. I was very disappointed in the selection of concessions that they had. hotdogs, nachos, and some sad sandwiches. The prices were ridiculous. The track itself seemed ok, but the grandstands and public areas are old and wore out. This place needs a major upgrade.
Bryan Mcdonald — Google review
Three Stars because it was a nice family event. We enjoyed watching the races from the table in the smokehouse area. We paid $120 for a table not covered. If we were to do it again I would definitely get covered, as it was very hot. Service in this area was non existent. We had to walk to the bar to order everything we wanted. I asked about food and she said she would send someone over to take our order. About the 15 minutes later someone arrived to take our food order. The only time I saw the server was to take order, drop food, and bring the check (which I had to go find her to ask for) I was overcharged for two double mixed drinks. I showed her on the menu where it had the prices listed for a double. She called the manager. I waited probably another 15 plus minutes and no manager showed. She ended up giving me the difference in cash and said the manager would reimburse her. I did assure that she was for certain going to get reimbursed, as I didn’t want her to personally give me money out of her pocket. She said she would. Overall we enjoyed the day and experience.

Fun place with cheap bets possible. Great family fun. Food and drinks available. There is also a variety of seating to choose from. The upper area is shady and had a nice cool breeze blowing through when we were there. Great views! I would suggest prepurchasing tickets online.

Went to the dinner for the first time there last night. Smelled walking in the door. Was like ok well let's ignore that and try it anyway. Bad choice. You'd think a place that makes the kind of money they do would update every 20 years or so. So dated. Anyway. We both ordered the 13.99 Ribeye special. Talk about low end steak. And it wasn't cooked even close to what we ordered. (Medium and medium well, both undercooked) Not sure if it's better during the busy season, but there is literally no chance we will ever eat there again.
It's like walking back in time I've seen a lot in my time but nothing compared to old this place a truly must see

There is a nice trail here. You can see the collapsed S-Trestle bridge and the standing Mexican Trestle bridge by following the trail. The trail coming back up to the parking area is pretty steep in places and you may get winded if you live near sea level and have had a few too many candles on that last birthday cake.

I hiked the Old Cloudcroft Highway Trail. Very nice views and some fun history along the way including parts of the historic railway and Bonnie’s Trestle.
Also it had just snowed and not ever seeing much snow it was a nice plus. Made a beautiful place even prettier.

Definitely take a picture of the maps as there are a lot of different paths to take. This is a beautiful trail especially in the fall. Just don’t forget that you have to hike back up if you go all the way down 🙃

Very good place for medium to large gathering. Short hiking spots are there. overlooks are there. Pick a good day weather wise to visit, you are in for a lovely experience.
Niaz Morshed — Google review
This is the trail I love to hike on my days off, really calms me down after all the stress of work, would definitely recommend visiting at the beginning of Autumn, when the leaves just start changing colors, the views are beautiful with all the colorful oranges, golds and reds, one tree in particular halfway to the trestle looks like fire!
Dodo_doggy — Google review
Very well worn path that for the most part 2 people can walk next to each other. Lots of up and down hills, but benches are among the way. There's an area that's private property, but you can go in and see the tracks as long as you are respectful of the property.

We spent a few hours at this great recreation area located outside Cloudcroft, NM. There’s numerous hiking trails to facilitate exploration of historic railroad infrastructure, interpretive signs, and picnic tables. A great way to stretch your legs and learn about local history in an outdoor setting.

Nice area, nice restrooms. Water fountain. Picnic area under trees. Needs more parking.
Chad Tessem — Google review
It's a beautiful view. Highly recommend going a couple mile up the road and walk the trail. The devil's elbow is a pretty nice trail. Looking forward to doing the 8 mile trail soon. There is four trails there done them all except the 8 mile one.

Cloudcroft NM.... History & fall colors on full display....This railroad trestle was built to support the lumber industry....Many nice highway viewpoints....4,000 altitude gain in 12 miles but no sharp curves.... Cloudcroft looks like a great place to grow up in....Many places to eat.....

Nice little hike. We got there right after it opened and it was probably an hour or more before others showed up. Signs were a little bit confusing at times but definitely won't get lost. Amazing what people could do in that time period by hand. Sorry I may have gotten the photos a little out of order.
Jeremy Dickey — Google review
Was marked as temporarily closed for whatever reason, was totally open. The hiking trails are great and well marked, the shorter hike to the trestle took me about an hour (I took my time, taking pictures and things), the history of the old railroad is great!
JN336 — Google review
Had a great time exploring and hiking. Pulling in there was plenty of parking and bathrooms right off the lot. Right at the bathrooms were maps so maping trails was easy. Trails were also visibly marked. Devils elbow, s trestle, and Mexican trestle were all amazing and breathtaking especially since the leaves just started turning. The hike down of course was very easy. The hike back up does gain elevation quickly but there are many spots to stop and rest and enjoy the scenery.

So many options for hiking for everyone. Beautiful area.
Winter activity area offering skiing, snowboarding & tubing for all ages & skill levels.
Ski Cloudcroft is awesome. If your looking for a family friendly place to get your kids started on the slopes, check this place out. The ski instructors and other staff members are friendly, encouraging, positive and professional. When the upper lift is open the intermediate and advanced slopes are rad! Check them out!!!!

The people make this ski resort! Our first time ever skiing and from start to finish the service was excellent. Affordable. My son was able to learn how to ski for his first time and make friends while doing it. Making multiple runs on the 🟢. We will definitely be back, with the whole family next year! Thank you Ski Cloudcroft for the best experience! I do recommend checking website to make sure top of the mountain is open. Huge shoutout to Jessica, very knowledgeable and caring person, good people. We stayed at, The Summit Inn.

We came during spring break and temps were in the 50-60s during the day. We were there early for snowboard lessons for the kids (like and hour before lessons started) and they said , sure, let’s start now! The instructors was amazing, calm and very good with all age groups. We spent the whole day there and had a blast. The tubing slowed down due to high temps, but they allowed people that paid to come back the next day. We were allowed to leave our things laying around with no fear of it being stolen. I actually lost my beanie for hours and it was in the lessons place. We will definitely come back when it’s colder so we can snowboard the higher runs.
Amanda Neely — Google review
Great family friendly environment. The staff is helpful and kind; they seem to enjoy being there. The tubing was excellent, especially for those not wanting to ski/snowboard. The skiing was great too. We are a family of beginners and it was perfect for us. There are runs for all levels, including black diamond courses. The green beginner course is called Happy Valley. You should master the bunny slope before going on that run. The ski school is worth getting. If you don't want a scared kid, let them do the school first before trying to go down the bunny slope on their own, unless they are fearless.
Mariah Richards — Google review
I don't know about skiing here, but if you want to take the kids out for a tube this is a great place. $25 each for a few hours. Be sure to read the website so you understand how they break the day up into intervals before you go.
Z Trower — Google review
Awesome experience. Went tubing here and will definitely go again when in the area. You have to sign up for an allotted time (there’s a max limit of people per time slot so make sure to get there early). You can go up and down as many times as you want during that time slot. This means when there’s less people you get more rides since there’s less of a wait time. Its in the middle of a forest so you can go hike afterwards as well.
Vinny R — Google review
We always have fun at Ski Cloudcroft! The tubing hill is a blast for all ages. The ski lessons are great value and they have a nice setup for ski rentals. The staff is really what makes it great though. The best part is the that it is easy to get to. (No white knuckle drive up a narrow mountain road like that other place!)

Super fun!! Unfortunately only the bunny hill and tubing slopes where open when I went be it was still supper fun def recommend!

A nice alternate to ski Apache. Not too far from Ruidoso. Kids tried snow skateboarding for the first time. They had alot of fun.

We had the best time at Ski Cloudcroft! We were hoping for our daughter to get in some ski lessons, but she wasn't feeling well. My husband and I went tubing there on two separate days, though, and loved it. The staff could not have been nicer. We will definitely be back on a future trip to the area!

Prices are affordable, 2 miles east from downtown Cloudcroft, 1:45 from El Paso, excellent staff and community.

Great mountain. Not super big, but enough runs to keep you busy for the whole day. Full day ticket is cheaper than Ski Apache half day. It has more of a forest feel to it. The staff members are super nice and helpful. And a very chill, calm vibes! Highly recommend it!

The Lincoln National Forest offers rugged mountain terrain with numerous hiking and horse trails, campgrounds, picnic spots, and skiing opportunities. The area boasts of beautiful scenery that is peaceful and breathtaking. Visitors need to be cautious of the high altitude and carry water even during winters. The region is known for its cooler temperatures due to higher elevation making it one of the nicer parts in New Mexico.
One of the nicer parts of New Mexico. Higher elevation so cooler temperatures when it's hot.
I stayed at Baca Campground, about 6 miles from the highway, beautiful and peaceful.
Lots of BLM so follow any dirt road to find a spot.
Check out Fort Stanton and the cute little town of Capitan, home of Smokey Bear.

Such a beautiful drive from Cloudcroft to Timberon through Lincoln National Forest! There was still snow in the shadows as we drove through in early April. From the roadside pull off, you can see White Sands National Park off in the distance.

I don't even want to make a review because it's the best kept secret ever! The most awesome trails and experiences you'll ever encounter. I've ridden a lot of trails other than the north east USA, by far the most challenging & exhilarating!!!! If you get the opportunity don't hesitate.

Beautiful place, quiet and just nature all around. It's a bit far from Cloudcroft but worth the drive. There was no mobile signal of any carrier, which made it even more peaceful. Highly recommended 👌

We took a hike in Lincoln National Forest, starting at the Village Spur Trailhead. The trailhead is very close to Burro Avenue and downtown Cloudcroft, NM. The hike we did was so scenic and beautiful. Very peaceful and amazing. Be careful, because the altitude is quite high, make sure you have water, even in the winter.

A beautiful drive and a plethora of trails to hike. Just make sure you bring appropriate layers because temperature changes can be drastic in the fall and winter over the course of a hike

We had a fantastic week here in August escaping the heat of Arizona. The location was perfect for hiking, exploring, and quick trips into the little town of Cloudcroft for essentials or non-essentials like Forest Pie at the Black Bear Bakery! The sites are a bit close together, however, being nestled among the tall pines gives you an element of privacy. The camp host (Mark) does a fabulous job of maintaining this campground. The pit toilets are the cleanest we've experienced anywhere (!), generator hours are limited, and a leash law is strictly enforced (which we greatly appreciate since we've had issues with large, aggressive, non-leashed dogs in campgrounds). So happy to have found this summer getaway and we will certainly be back!
Peter Caras — Google review
Nice views and free camping. Be careful pulling a camper when finding a place to camp. Some of the camp roads come to a dead end, and it would be hard/impossible to turn around.
If you are going to ride any single track trails on a dirtbike, be aware that they are extremely difficult. My klx230 did not have enough power, and my xr650l was to heavy to go at a speed I felt comfortable with. All the other dirt roads/forest roads were great.

Beautiful national forest. Went during the summer and it was still snowing and chilly so can just imagine how it’s like in the winter. Lots of hiking spots and has a little small town that you can go into for food and lodging. Make sure you have some sort of app (like all trails) or maybe a map because some of the hiking spots can be easy to get off track, especially in the snow.
Best surprise pit stop I've ever been too. I pulled up wanting to get apples and left with so many great goodies. Tom was working along with a younger girl and they were both extremely friendly and helpful. Anyone stopping here should get the apple butter, it's AMAZING. The animals were also a pleasant surprise to see. Overall great stand with excellent service and food.

Sweet stop! A farm stand with local and homemade goodies alongside national brand snacks and beverages. Some gifts and toys to purchase to help occupy the kids on a long car ride. A variety of animals to view and interact with and friendly folks to chat with. Small but clean bathrooms by the camels were worth the snack purchase to support the local small business. Way better than any gas station rest stop for sure!

While driving through New Mexico we came across this small petting zoo along the side of the road. The whole family had a blast petting and feeding the animals. The selection of animals was quite larger than just the expected goats! There is a small gift shop with food goodies and souvenirs. Definitely a great little stop along the road trip! The animals were all just too sweet and adorable!

It's simple but sweet. The trout look so pretty in the ponds, and feeding them is a fun frenzy!!! Unfortunately, the other animals can't be out like they used to be, but oh well!!! They had sooo many new baby animals it was the cutest!! I had the best stop right before our stop in Cloudcroft for lunch. Show Runyan Ranch some love and enjoy the smile!!

The owner was very friendly. There is a stand to buy local food items, ice cream & also different animals to see: goats, a miniature cow, camel, chickens, swans, ducks & geese.
There's a pond where you can fish for rainbow trout.

Cherry cider is excellent. I didn't have room on my motorcycle to take much but if I had been in a car I would have purchased two gallons. Some of the Blackberry creations available looked delicious, but again...I didn't have room to carry them. I'll be bavk someday with a car.

Came here with my sister and her family (they recommended this as a great place for us to spend time). Had a blast ! They have Goats to feed, a Zebra, even rainbow trout! Prices are very reasonable too for the feed bag. Shop has all local stuff and the staff are very friendly. Very nice place to sit down and relax too. Right off the US 82 highway between Artesia and Cloudcroft. Very responsive on the phone + Google Maps messaging.

Delicious Cherry cider. Lots of interesting things in the store. I didn't have storage room on my motorcycle to carry off all that I wanted to purchase.
I had read a review about this gallery and stopped in when in the area. The owner, Juanita, was so. Ice and was happy to share information about her pieces. She has a bust of Medusa’s head completely beaded. It is really amazing. She also has lovely pieces of jewelry and scenery. Worth a visit.

The Roswell Museum and Art Center is a must-visit destination, offering free admission to an impressive collection of Southwestern art, scientific discovery, and historical artifacts. Seventeen galleries showcase works by notable artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Peter Hurd, and Henriette Wyeth. In addition to the art exhibits, visitors can explore an eclectic mix of Native American, Hispanic, and Anglo artifacts that provide insight into the daily life and spiritual practices of the region's inhabitants.
Wonderful museum with an extensive collection of art and history. As opposed to many museums which have too much to read, the Roswell Museum is able to give you a great number of items of high quality. The rotating featured work is as good as the permanent work, and the admission price of $10 (as an out of town tourist) is well worth it. The staff was also very nice and helpful!

Wow. The honk if you don't exist exhibit really spoke to me .
The lay out of the bldg is ..... convoluted and the map is not to scale but it's a beautiful place and I honestly prefer to be a little lost in a museum.
The pricing is fair and the staff was friendly. There's many different exhibits on display right now, even though two of them are closed currently to be re installed .
Writing this before I get to see the planetarium movie , but I'm excited for that as well.

What a wonderful feature to the sweet town of Roswell NM! My husband and I visited on a Saturday and enjoyed the entire museum. We ended up becoming members as well: museums like this deserve support. As part of their collections, they have works by Salvador Dali, Georgia O'Keefe, and even Rembrandt. Historic artifacts ranging from Native American culture and the work of rocket scientist Goddard of the 1940s, Spanish explorers and cowboys fill multiple rooms. We were truly entertained and amazed by all the exhibits. The museum shop, too, offers some very nice eclectic original pieces from local and national artists. Don't miss the sculpted pieces made from film celluloid!!!!!!! Please do come to Roswell and visit the Museum: they also have a planetarium attached and offer various programs along with 2nd Saturday events for Roswell residents!

Essentially two museums in one: An art museum and a history museum. I'll admit I'm not into modern art, but there are still a couple of pieces worth seeing. The history museum is more of my interest and especially the section on Robert Goddard. Allow at least an hour. I spent 90 minutes here.

This was not the UFO museum, but it was SO much better. So happy we stayed to look around because it was such a well-built museum. Roswell has such a rich and beautiful history and it was so nice to see it preserved here. Please visit this museum if you're in town!

We spent about an hour and a half here. I wouldn't expect spending anymore time than that. Had some interesting displays and the kids thought about half of them were interesting. Had American west historical stuff along with rocketry history with Robert Goddard and some native American cultural stuff. Worth checking out if you have an hour or so to spend.

I honestly had no clue what to expect. I just drove to the closest place of interest that my hotel pointed me to. I had fun, it was a bit like a maze and the lady in the gift shop was wonderful to talk to and a wealth of neat facts about the different resident artist. I enjoy history and they had 2 interesting history areas, one on the American west and the other on Robert Goddard. Some of the themed installation were truly imaginative. Would love to come back for the next theme.

Stunning museum, way more stuff on show then I ever thought. Probably one of the best small town museums I've ever been to, totally worth the entry fee and an hour to walk around in the air conditioning.
Huge exhibits to art, science and history.
Rocketry room donated by the Goddard's was a fascinating look at the early days of rocket science in America. All sorts of interesting details of the tools and equipment used.
Huge number of historical artifacts as well, from ancient New Mexico history, to early guns and weapons used in a range of conflicts, even a couple of suites of armor!
Staff was helpful and kind, entire place was clean and cool.
Pecos Flavors Winery + Bistro, established in 2004 by Paul and Cindy Ragsdale, is a popular spot in Roswell. The winery offers a variety of local wines like the Compadres and has a tasting room conveniently located downtown. In addition to their wine selection, the bistro serves up delicious meals in an indoor-outdoor setting with live music. The charming space includes a bar, wine bar, dining deli counter side, and outdoor patio area.
Very nice and fun experience! All the food and wine was good. Service was great. Enjoyed the wine fights and the live music. Highly recommended!

A screw in a sidewall south of Carlsbad while on vacation sent us north to Roswell to find a tire to fit the rims. Pecos Flavors was a random pick and turned out to be a great find in Roswell. Salmon and Steak mains were excellent for the price. The wines are featured from Arizona. I’m not effusive about the local wine production but they are inexpensive and drinkable. Walking into the place - it’s lively, well attended for a Wednesday night, and would become a staple for me if I lived here. Well done!

Passing thru on a camping trip we found this place online. Didn’t expect much but we were astounded at how fabulous Pecos is. They probably have the best chef in the world here because our meals were perfectly flavored and prepared and we are very familiar with fine dining. The house wines are delicious. And the wait staff is attentive and friendly. Ari waited on us and we couldn’t have been treated better. Apparently the locals know how great Pecos is because it was packed. Things get even better after you’ve had one of their fine meals if you stay for the musical entertainment.

Roswell may be small but it has some gems within it. This is one of them. Great food and wine and sweets to please all palates. Kind staff, way cool space with a bar and wine bar drinking side, dinning deli counter side and an outdoor patio space. The food is great! My suggestions are the roast beef, the chicken melt, the chef salad and a chocolate chip cookie! L Good! The Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Galactic cab red wines are all great! I got a bottle of Galactic myself. Tara is a way cool server and Josh the GM is a really cool guy and the grapes are grown on his land as well!

The atmosphere of this place is great, and most of our food choices were phenomenally cooked and served.
Highly encourage their queso with green chilies. It comes with a unique salsa and very delicious tortilla chips.
However, I would recommend against ordering their burgers. I'm not sure if the meat is too thick or the bun too narrow, but it falls apart exceptionally fast regardless (picture). I had to remove the very thick cut tomatoes as they only quickened the collapse.

Wow. This was such a cool find. We had their wine flights. I loved all of the ones I chose, all Pecos flavors. My favorite was the blush, my husbands favorite was the applause. He had quiche and a salad; I had the smoked salmon and capers on a bagel with cream cheese….all the food was delicious. The staff was attentive and kind. There was live music too. We had a fun afternoon. We will go back before our vacation ends.
The International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell showcases exhibits about the famous 1947 Roswell UFO incident, as well as alien-themed art. The museum features extensive display panels with witness statements, newspaper clippings, and essays detailing the incident's timeline and alleged cover-up. For UFO enthusiasts, the library boasts an impressive collection of materials related to extraterrestrial sightings. Additionally, homemade models and gory mock-ups provide a lighter touch for skeptical or curious visitors.
As a space nerd, I absolutely loved this place! So much information from not just Roswell, but around the world! Lots of artifacts & news articles & of course even some of the nerdy green men around. You could spend 15 minutes in here if you are just there to see what's there, or hours if you want to read everything as there's lots of information. The space nerd in me loved my time spent here!

This place is great! It was easy to get in.(no more than a few minutes to get in) and affordable (less than $10 I believe). Also, lots of information on the Roswell and other incidents including people involved, where they took place, what happened, affidavits, impact on the entertainment industry (movies, tv), cool artwork inspired by films or aliens in general, a few games to play outside the gift shop, etc. The gift shop has a great variety of items like t-shirts, stress saucers (like a stress ball shaped like a flying saucer), bouncy balls, shot glasses, etc. Took forever for me to choose a few haha. Plus, if you have a lot of time, they have a library full of books and records (didn't examine them too much, but if aliens or Roswell are your thing, they might be worth looking into!

Went in skeptical - left a believer. This museum is very well organized with news articles, historic artifacts, and exhibits which compliment each other with just enough verifiable information to inspire the visitor to want to know more. The staff is friendly, the museum is very family and dog friendly. It is a truly unique and worthwhile place to visit.

We are retired and we travel full time. We visit a lot of museums throughout the United States.
The International UFO Museum and Research Center and Gift Shop was a lower quality museum experience offering small fonts on small placards containing way too much information on each throughout the entire museum. Guests having to closely hover together trying to get a glimpse of what they say is not what a museum should be. We cannot imagine trying to entertain children here for any length of time.
The movie room and the lights/sound/video room were minimally informative.
The gift shop, however, did provide some nice trinkets and treasures, bring our review from a one to a two.

We really enjoyed our visit! Lots of quirky memorabilia, information, and art. A quintessential Roswell experience for sure. We also found all sorts of cool things to send to relatives and friends in the gift shop.
It's not too big, an easy flat walk through the exhibits with space enough to distance yourself from other guests, and when we went (a Wednesday in mid October) parking was easy to find.

I was so excited to go and I was not disappointed. I absolutely loved the library area which contained so much information from witnesses of the 1947 crash. Very cool to read them all. The museum was interesting as well with lots on information on some famous abductees, implants, etc. also some fun quirky things as well. I would absolutely recommend this place. Go when you have lots of time, there is very much to see and read.

Not expensive to enter and bigger than I expected. Filled with lots of artifacts, articles, and memorabilia from alien-themed movies/shows. They had a library filled with books that you could enjoy reading. They had movies and information you could also look through. The interactive exhibits were neat. The gift shop was nice. Worth checking out an hour or 2…

Let’s be real = if the UAP or UFO stuff lately fascinates you at all - this is the place to go.
And the price includes parking and a wrist band to get back in after you explore the town - if only to use the clean restrooms - most of the gift shops don’t have restrooms you can use.
And that is a very nice thing.
I found the content interesting too. Like the original radio broadcast of the national news reporting the event. Look closely for buttons to push. This one was at the old fashioned radio in the first room.
we both enjoyed ourselves completely.
And we came here because it was on the way to our Carlsbad Caverns adventure… and sure glad we stopped.
A lovely town and delightful place

We had a great experience of visiting the museum. The information is interesting enough to keep our six years old son engaged for close to 1.5 hours. He watched almost every video and asked questions about aliens. We were learning the discovery and history along with him.
Pin Yeoh (Foodie life) — Google review
I'm not necessarily an alien believer but this place is awesome! It is much much bigger than I ever would have expected. It has a great walk through museum area telling the history of alien related events in Roswell, displays with aliens, history of alien sightings throughout the world, and a decent amount of alien artwork. It also has a rather large library of alien related documents, books, and cassette recordings, that are all well organized and open for customers to go through freely. It would be an excellent place for any person studying alien history to visit. Lastly, the gift show is also large and has all the alien-themed toys, nick nacks, and apparel you could want.

While I really enjoyed the museum and the entrance fee was really low, I was a little disappointed. It seemed to try to be a bit too serious, to be honest I was hoping for something more hokey. If they were trying to be more serious, I thought there would be much more about all of the alien encounters but it was centered on the one near Rosewell. Also there was nothing about the recent US military admission that they had taken video and encountered aircraft that they could not identify and those aircraft possessed capabilities beyond known technology. All in all it was a good way to spend an hour or so. Probably best to do it mid day when it is too hot outside for anything else. The gift shop was very nice and not over priced.

Only had time to check out the gift shop which offered a variety of UFO souvenirs. Pet friendly. Took off one star because they only had one register working out of 3 (The other two were down) and unfortunately we stayed in line for over 30 minutes. Next time would like to go and do the museum part it seemed reasonably priced at $7 for adults and $4 or children in 15 and under.

Our families liked this interesting museum. The kids loved the interactive spaceship experience that has the loudest speakers on the block. They also loved the free computer games. It was interesting to read some of the stories from encounters and experiences. Wish we got to spend more time here but with 6 kids altogether, we had to go in and out. We liked the gift shop and the options were great but unfortunately our 5 yo picked up a snow globe and dropped it. It was nice the gift shop didn't charge us but they watched us like a hawk while we were in the gift store and walked after our families which is why I deducted one star. I can understand following us but talking to the older kids about whether or not to pick something up seemed inappropriate since our older kids didn't drop anything. That bothered me and I couldn't wait to leave the gift shop. Anyway, it's a fun place but be careful with kiddos who have grabby hands lol.

A lot to see here. Lots of conspiracy stories which opens your mind. A huge library they now have a Alien crash simulator which is awesome. Tons of Alien Props and also Free admission. You will also see tons news clippings. The research library is worth the trip alone. 1947 Roswell had a space crash. Will you leave a believer?

I've always wanted to visit Roswell and absolutely love this museum. The research library was packed with information - walls filled with artwork - amazing displays and eye witness accounts/timelines of what happened here could take days at least to comb through! I was there for only a few hours. Oh, I believe alright 👍

Coming from Canada and passing through Roswell to get to Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
I was expecting nothing about this place, like zero! It is always about managing expectations! But for 22$ for two adults and two kids, it was a decent experience.
It is funny to read folks rating this museum poorly like they were expecting aliens to show up in the exhibits…Or that they have visited so many museums and this one is not bla bla bla…I mean you go there knowing there will not any aliens waiting for you and you will be reading but some folks complain about too much reading.
Ho well, whether you believe or not, you need to read the story about the Roswell incident and invest some time to make an opinion. Too bad for those (read the reviews) who expect a roller coaster with little green men jumping around. This is fringe territory…
Overall it was decent and we learned interesting facts. It is true? I don’t know and I don’t care! We had a good time there.
Gift shop was cool.
Museum is clean, well organized but small. Expect to spend an hour there, unless you decide to read stuff…

Awesome museum with lots of great info! We had a great time and would recommend. The admission price is super affordable and a great value I felt. The research center/library is UNREAL! It just seemed to keep going and going.

I've been coming to this place since 2000 and I love it every time! It's a great mix of a serious look at UFOs but also understands the fun of the subject matter.

Out of Order
Technicsl Difficulties
And you don't know it until you try to go to the viewing room and or the virtual reality room. Tickets should have been half price or refunded but staff looked cheaply so many warned those coming in.
Shot a wad of cash and twenty minutes. Would give zero stars if the app would take that rating
RIP OFF
Unfortunately we weren't told the film area was closed, several people were waiting in that area, so I asked one of three people, that seem to like to duck low behind the counter, when the film starts. She said, we are having technical difficulties today. I suggested they put a sign on the door then as many people were in their awaiting the film. The three looked at each other as if maybe I should do that.
We went through the other displays which one could Google, excited to reach the reality room, which -guess what? Was closed. There was at least a sign on that door.
Went to the gift shop for the second time as we thought maybe we would get a little more entertainment then twenty minutes.
Went to the research library twice. Filled with books and another introvert behind the counter trying to hide in a robin egg blue sweet jacket who spoke to none of us three the two visits to the library.
Selling tickets without heads up that the two biggest attractions to the place are closed and not even bothering to put sign on the door of one not working is lame.
After our half visit and me suggesting one of the, doing nothing, front counter people put an out of order sign on the out of order presentation room I went back to check. Lights still on the room, no sign.
Obviously for three staff in the "counter pay now area"-the lights weren't on either.
Neither were the lights on with the introverted downer in the research room.
We laughed when two groups mentioned in the gift shop that the two main attractions in the place were close to hear the larger employee say "well we don't know when things are going to break" to several in their group that asked.
Heard
The place is all over staffed with inept and uncaring staff.
Don't make this a destination, and if you do pass through enjoy one of the cute antique shops or cute McDonald's.
We should have been given a refund. The guy at front desk was asked by several and just looked like "huh"
I posted two pics to the Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds where one can grab some fun photos. The rest of the photos are to a tired and broken down museum that I think you should pass on.
Just google and read about the cool things online and save some bucks!

I’m not sure what other people expected to see, but it is exactly what my husband and I expected. It’s a neat place where you can learn the timeline of events after the announcement of the UFO crash in Roswell. The exhibits provide detailed information of the time of the crash, the people involved, and circumstances surrounding the cover-up.
There is a lot of reading, and it would be helpful if The information was enlarged so that more people could read it at once. Other than that, the exhibits are neat.
This 34-acre preserve features animals, an antique carousel, a ranching exhibit & a children's area.
Lived in Carlsbad, NM and never knew their was a zoo close to us. For a family of 5 the tickets were under $30. From looking at the animals to riding the Mary-Go-Round it was a great way to spend our day. The staff was friendly, and the zoo was clean. Definitely will be going back soon. Highly recommend for anyone looking to get away for the day!

Great Space for some family fun and Wildlife interactions. The zoo has free roaming peacocks that are not afraid of people. Animals from small reptiles to large Texas Longhorns call this place home. Flowing the paths make it easy to see everything that the zoo and park has to offer.

Wonderful time here w the family. There isn't much of a variety of animals but for a small town it does the trick. It's interesting and great for children. There is a snack place and it's amazing affordable. It's awesome that they don't charge you an arm and a leg for a drink. Especially in the hot sun!!!!! Nicely kept and clean in the animals cages. Loved our visit!!!
Sarah Olvera — Google review
They have a decent number of animals. Some, like the elk and some birds respond to or approach you. I visited in winter so some stuff was offline and could only hear one bear because it's torpor time for them.
The only common animal was a raven and they're cool to see here because you never get close to wild ones. They're huge.
It was fairly clean inside and outside the animal habitats. It wouldn't be bad to see what it's like during peak season as well. Off peak is good too because its not too busy, it's chill, and you can take your time.
This zoo is -free- to visit. Consider leaving a donation in one of the receptacles.
Beware of the roving gang of peacocks. They're up to no good. I just know they're plotting something...

If I could leave no stars I would. This Zoo is not as good as the reviews say. And definitely not worth the 20$ what a waste. Half the animals are either sleeping or dead you honestly can't tell . I wish I could get a refund.. the train was not running and the Mary go round was only running at their convenience.. the guy was not nice either poor customer service. They need to let people know their zoo isn't all open and running and should probably just be closed such a huge disappointment and people should not go here they would be wasting their money..

I visited on June 14, 2023. I wanted a place to walk and I noticed the town has a zoo. The reviews were all over the place about the cost. It was free for me today. There are not very many animals but for free it was nice. The carousel and train mentioned in other reviews are not running. In the park next to the zoo are some play structures. Nice overall small town zoo.

It was winter and a bit windy, so the animals were not very active, most were eating or sleeping, buffalo, elk, and some birds of prey, i am sure they are more active in the spring:) staff was really nice and answered all my questions 😀

Was pleasantly surprised. It was perfect way to spend 1-2 hours with the kids. It is a smaller zoo. Just dont expect lions and giraffes. But elk, llamas, bald eagles etc. It is FREE but they do accept donations.

My fiance and I took our daughter here this weekend and she loved seeing the animals. I think it's really great that it's free for everyone as well!

Very small zoo and underfunded which I do not hold against them because what they are doing for those animals is such kindness. My two kids still had such a good time walking through this very personable zoo. Small gift/souvenirs were being sold at the front with the tickets. There is work being done on the zoo which is nice to see I can't wait to see the completed changes the zoo absolutely deserves it.
Brianna Harvey — Google review
Very small but it's free, habitats seemed decently maintained. There's a small donation pole towards the end, I'm sure they need all the can get. It was enjoyable and if your around and need to get out, give them a go.
Huge, mellow wildlife refuge with plenty of rare birds & other animals plus unique landscapes.
Very scenic place to come and enjoy some peace and quiet and to slow down and look around at what's around you. There's a 6 mile loop that you can drive thru and along the way there's multiple place to stop with some trails and lookouts. There's also trails near the entrance, like the butterfly trail, which I thought were great. I also saw lots of different kinds of birds throughout the reserve. It's not a busy place, so you can really take your time and enjoy yourself.

Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 4200 E Pine Lodge Rd, Roswell, NM 88201, USA
Park features several sinkhole-formed lakes with water sport activities, plus hiking trails.
A fantastic discovery near Roswell, New Mexico. Entrance fee $5; a very low fee for the stunning lakes that are located in this State Park. There are lots of small lakes with the deepest blue water you can imagine. The biggest lake is Lea Lake, it has wonderful viewing and picnic areas. It also has a Marina where you can rent paddle boats. Make it a point to visit this beautiful State Park.
Ruth Jones — Google review
We used the campground as an overnight stop. We did not use the bathrooms (I saw negative comments about them). For us, it was a beautiful place to spend the night. The main lake, Lea Lake, where you can swim, is beautiful. From there you can walk for 1 mile to see the other lakes in the park, that give it its name. Small park but very enjoyable!
Peter Hey (RV PLANET) — Google review
Absolutely beautiful state park. Perfectly level RV parking.
Very affordable. Nice hiking trails and interesting, educational plaques along the way.
I rarely say anything bad... But the showers were never cleaned the whole time I was there, 12 days. The lights are full of dead bugs, the hair on the shower floors is just piling up and you need a knife to cut the soap scum. Gross 🤢
The first campground host is constantly busy trimming trees, picking up garbage, walking around cleaning up the beach and their campsite is immaculate.
The second host bad mouths the ranger, thinks they should do more, she might walk around once a day and pick up a few pieces of litter. But mostly her campsite is a disgrace, untidy, you can't see the picnic table for the junk.
All and all it was a beautiful state park as long as you have blinders on when you first enter.

One of our favorite places to stay at and relaxed. Unfortunately this time we noticed less care to the camping area. We stayed for two weeks and not once were the bathroom cleaned. The only showers in the park seemed to have no been cleaned since last season as well. Toilet vaults are dusty. Also remember to bring your own toilet. The park rangers did a great job on patrolling during the day, but we were concerned after 5pm, when noticed at least three car come at night to stay and leave before the morning rangers come by and check if people have paid.
Day area is closed to maintenance.

What a neat spot! We stayed here overnight and the campground was really pleasant! The showers were a 2/5 (low water pressure and pretty gross) BUT there were showers with hot water nonetheless! We swam in the lake by the campground and THAT was fantastic. It was almost 100° but the water was very chilly and refreshing, and super clear.

Nice state park with many camping spots to choose from. Though we did not camp and were passing through, it was easy to see why this place is popular. We hiked from the visitors center to each of the lakes and enjoyed the cool windy day. There were a few groups of fishermen who showed us some of the neat fish they caught! Very cool. Additionally, there is a whole other area with a beach area and plenty of picnic tables for families.

Great park! Only $5 and we had hours of fun. Be sure you bring tons of water and sunscreen, as there isn't much shade. We loved seeing the massive sink hole lakes and learning about them. And of course, swimming in bottomless lake was a great way to cool off. Water was ice cold and beautiful blue. Next we took the wetland trail, which was mostly dry at the time. But our clothes dried out from our swim while we learned about the specialized plants of the salty wetlands.

A great place to explore and camp. Lea Lake Campground is reservations only $14.00 per night includes day fee and hookups. Lower lakes campground is dry camping $10.00 per night much larger area to camp. Both campgrounds have access to moderately warm showers and dump station. Really cool buildings and architecture

This was our 4th trip to Bottomless Lakes, we love this park. They finally got the bathrooms/showers completed. Have to admit, I'm a little disappointed in the ladies side, could be cleaner and they need to find a way to keep the flying bugs out, not sure how, but dead bugs all over the shower floors are just gross.
RV sites are well spaced and are always clean when we get there. Dump station is easy access.
The lake is smallish but fun to dig out the kayak and paddle around.
The swimming area is amazing.

Beautiful little park just minutes from Roswell New Mexico! Swimming, paddle boarding & hiking. Clean & easy access to restrooms. Parking is plentiful, and hiking trails are clean & easy. Be prepared to take water if you hike as there are no water fountains. There are warnings posted regarding rattlesnakes (though we did not see any) .. there were a lot of lizards tho!

We stayed here two weeks in our 40' fifth wheel in Site 4, full hookups. This is our third time staying here and exploring Roswell. The park is stunning. I never get tired of the red bluffs. The lake has been relieving since it has been in the 100's. No problem on electric even though everyone has their A/C's on max. They are very dog friendly and they can come swim with us which is a lot of fun. Now to the negative, the day use visitors are pigs. There is trash and food every, the beach, the shelters and along the shoreline is littered with it. It is just a shame that people have to trash the place that they love to bring their families to. I will never understand that. The Rangers pick up as much as they can but it is a losing battle. They should be charged with littering, affecting their wallets would stop that!

Pros- low cost, full hookups, easily accessible utilities, covered picnic area at each site, nice lake for swimming
Cons- so many flies! The inside of our van was covered in flies as soon as we opened the doors. The bath house is not centrally located. We had to walk way down to the other end of the campground to reach it.

They have lots of activities and cool things for the kiddos. We had their lemonade and were hoping to try their apple cider doughnuts but they were sold out. They have a tractor ride to pick a pumpkin and pumpkin slingshots and a fairy garden where they sold (pricey) fairy wings and wands and crowns so it was cute but we didn't buy those things. They were cute. We paid $12 a person to get in. Under 2 get in free. Took star off for those prices.
They have something for most ages. Barn bingo and gel blasters too. Bouncy farm and petting zoo and bamboo maze and fishing pond with pole you can use. Was warm today so the lemonade hit the spot. Will go back next year. Didn't try any wines but they are a vineyard and have wine tastings. And they sell some concessions in the barn and there's a restaurant too

That while place is a liability. It sounded great and fun but when we arrived it was barely lit. A little boy was drinking hot chocolate and it spilled, the mom had 3 kids and had her hands full, I went to help and the little boy had blisters starting to form from where the drink hit him, the spilled drink on the table had steam coming off of it...it was way too hot!! I ran to the concession they had no ice and treated it as oh well I don't care attitude I asked for water and they gave me a bottle, that was the first incident the second one was my kid was in the obstacle jumping balloon so I was watching it and A BOY FELL IN BETWEEN THE JUMPING BALLOON WHERE IT CONNECTS!! Honestly it's pretty disappointing how much they've raised their prices!! It's sad for the families with lots of littles...it used to be $10 a person and now they've raised it to $15. The best state park campground that we’ve been to. Affordable. Picnic tables are covered. Great views of the lake. Bathrooms have been recently renovated. Good running and mountain biking trails (short paths for mountain biking). Convenient distance to Carlsbad Caverns.

Camped here to visit Carlsbad Caverns, unrelated to the campground review itself be prepared to drive an hour to get to the Caverns & Don’t miss a visit to Guadalupe Mountain Brewery in town.
Bathroom’s & playground were the only real shining stars of this park. Must be why our reservation was shortened, canceled on the front end because of a park closure. They must’ve been redoing them.
Arrived at 5:02 PM on a Friday, flags were down & Ranger Station was unoccupied, there were no instructions for “after hours” arrival. You would think on a Friday they would staff it a little later or at least leave registration information out for reserved campers, like proceed to site?!
The sites themselves are in a bit of disrepair and very rough, most unlevel. Our water spigot has so much lime caked on it we couldn’t even screw our hose on without first deliming it. Site 16 had great water views & was mostly level.
Tons of prickers so if you have dogs be aware & have tweezers handy. Trails were all in rough shape as well. It’s fine to park to sleep with electric & water for sightseeing but I would want to cozy up in the campsite for a getaway.

The best thing about the park is the restrooms. The wind blew incessantly, goat’s head stickers all over, and the smell from the oil field was awful. It was a convenient stay to see Carlsbad caverns, but would not return. People who say this place is beautiful must have been living under a rock.

Best state park we stayed at in all of NM on our road trip. Site was large, lake was fun to wade in on a 107 day, bathrooms are well maintained. We were a bit spoiled with these pristine, air conditioned bathrooms when we went to Bottomless Lakes, which was trashed.
Sitting Bull Falls is a serene location that boasts a series of waterfalls and natural pools, making it popular for hikes, swims and picnics. This cascading waterfall stands an impressive 150 feet tall, flowing into stunning crystal-clear waters. A well-worth 0.7-mile hike leads visitors to the top of the falls where they can witness at least five pools before reaching the final bottom pool.
Beautiful hiking and day use area. Highly recommend checking out if you’re visiting Carlsbad Caverns NP or Lincoln National Park.

The price per car is fenomenal & you can bring your dogs...the experience was a fun & exciting one. Watch out for the leeches though & make sure you wear appropriate shoes...it's slippery.

Totally worth the drive! Amazing oasis, it’s gorgeous and well kept. The water is freezing so swimming isn’t for the faint of heart but it’s totally worth it.

Beautiful place. The picnic areas are super nice. Short walk to the falls with steps down if you want to walk around on the rocks. There’s a hike to the top if you want to take it. Park was super clean

Summary
It's a great place to relax and view the falls. Go for a swim, explore or if you want more than a simple walk there is a 6.6, 4.6,1.1, and a .4 hike.
The falls
The overlook for the falls is all paved sidewalk. You can take a few steps to get to the pools fun to play and swim. Less than .1 Miles
Top of the falls
Much more difficult. Would likely be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Otherwise it is .4 miles of straight up. Toward the top of the falls the path fades away and it becomes more of a make your own path.
Picnic
Plenty of tables and covered areas to eat a bag lunch or grill. Short walk from parking.
Travel time
Long windy roads for about 30 minutes to get there. Easily worth it.
Bathrooms
They are accessible. The sink is annoying no way to have water on and scrub at the same time.

If you like hiking this is a great hike. We took the 3 mile hike behind the falls then the short .7 mile hike to the falls. The 3 mile hike (one way) is moderate with a 1500ft gain in altitude but worth the trek. The .7 mile is on paved concrete with hand rails. Don't forget to take a dip in the water below the falls. We did it! Water was about 66 degrees...a heart stopper but worth it to say, "yes, I did that!" Entry to area is $5 per car up to 9 people. $10 for car loads over 10 people. There is parking for trailers and/or motor homes but the road to the parking lot is a little narrow!! Have fun!

Our second visit didn't have as much water as the first, but there was still plenty for my 2 year old to get in. This is definitely a hidden gem.

Be sure and take the 0.7 mile hike up to the top of the falls. Well worth it. Counted at least 5 pools from the top of the waterfall before the big pool at the bottom of the fall.

Beautiful location, plenty of parking. Pets are allowed on leashes. There are covered picnic areas with grills, also bathrooms and fill up stations for your water bottles and pets.

Truly an amazing place. The peace and serenity of the place can be felt making the hike around the area. It clear to see why ancient people groups would have chose this as an oasis get away. Super dog friendly and since it a smaller park there is normally plenty of room for the pawers to run and play.

The falls are beautiful clear cold water, great area to cool off from the desert heat!

If your a tourist passing through to see the caverns or an oil field hands here working, I suggest, if you like all things nature.... come to see the falls. The drive, the walk [hike], the small effort to witness Nature in its full glory and spectacular scenery... creation at its finest... sit and listen to the sound of the water the shreak of the hawks gliding on thermals above the canyon... this place has a magical ability to lower your blood pressure and revitalize your spirit and soul. A temporary escape to an oasis for the spirt... here the hustle and bustle of a 12 hour hitch or the cramped confines of a vehicle are forgotten and the travel becomes a destination.

The water was smaller then I had hoped but still plenty of room for many people. We had room to play with a RC boat and about 15 people in the water. There are leaches in the water my daughter had one on her toe. It's my understanding that they are harmless but she was bleeding for a little while with no pain. It's not enough to stop us from swimming. There are many other smaller pools you can hike to. The hiking is fun without to much challenge for us that aren't in shape. But I wouldn't try the hike to the top of the falls in the summer middle of the day because of the heat. It gets pretty crowded at the main pool so I would get there early. There is a parking fee around $5. I was unclear on how they figure the charges but it's cheap enough anyway.

This place is awesome. The drive up to the falls was gorgeous. When you get there there are several parking lots. Travel up to the top. It is closest to the falls. It is $5 a car load. My kids enjoyed taking the trail to the falls. They loved all of the small swimming ponds and all of the exploring you could do in the area. There are many places for you to eat a picnic lunch. We also took the trail to the top of the falls. It was a little underwhelming. Though it was good exercise. Overall we were very pleased with the area and taken back by its beauty.

Always love this place and take all visitors there. However, today the gate was closed. Nothing about restricted hours on the website! Road signs en-route gave some warnings, but they start a long way from town! Quite disappointing, but not-unexpected for a USG facility. Probably takes an act of Congress to change the website!

Zoos & Aquariums
1.3-mile walk through a sprawling, 1,200-acre desert garden with animal exhibits & mountain views.
This place was freaking awesome, and huge!!! We went to visit while on vacation and loved it. Luckily the weather was beautiful and we were able to see plenty of animals including the elusive black bear they have. We ended up visiting every path and spending longer than we planned on. They also had a great variety of plants in areas and around the grounds.
We definitely need to return again.

I wanted to love this place but it was honestly more of a sad experience than a positive one. Everything felt abandoned and like it hadn’t been given any TLC in 20 years. The plants and outdoor portion was peaceful and interesting, but the “zoo” part was much more sad than any zoo I’ve ever witnessed. Few animals, extremely tight quarters, unwelcoming exhibits. With some love this could be a cool place, it probably was in its prime.
The Succulents of the World greenhouse was awesome though!! Like walking into a sauna full of cacti. Really pretty!

Great learning experience, so glad I went here before going out hiking. I learned so much about the plants and animals in the area. Plenty of parking, and easy to get to. The people working there are so friendly. Spent about 90 minutes there and I'll definitely go back.

This state park is definitely worth a visit. We loved the easy walk on all paved paths. Last entry is allowed at 3:30 and we got there just before that. The staff was super friendly! We didn't get to see the prairie dogs or the bear, I'm assuming because it was later and they were put away or sleeping. Most of the animals are rehabilitated but unable to live in the wild so it was nice to see them here.
This was a great stop the day before our caverns trip. I would highly recommend it if you like desert plants and unique animals!

Came to Carlsbad/Roswell for a quick family vacation. Took a late afternoon stroll through the zoo & gardens as a last minute decision as it was close to our hotel. So happy we did! Loved seeing the animals and plant species native to the area.

This place was fun and educational! My kids loved the hands on learning in the visitor's center. We loved learning about all the native plants and animals. There were new babies in prairie dog town, I think those were my favorite. My kids loved the reptile house, the javalina, and the roadrunner.

Two Words...Under Funded.
You can tell this place has the potential to be a great outdoor museum/zoo. It reminded me of the Desert Museum in Tuscan, Arizona...but without the funding.
I'll say this, we did enjoy our visit here, but it's got some things about it that really should be improved for it to be truly wonderful.
For starters, it is quite run down. Pictured below is a drinking fountain station full of leaves that seems hasn't been tended to in some time.
Also pictured below is the wolf enclosure. It's so overrun with trees and bushes you can hardly see anything.
Most of the signs explaining the science/animals are heavily weathered, many are unreadable.
Another thing I would mention is there is this random room that you can tell was built for a movie amphitheater, but there is no movie playing (See the below picture)
Our favorite parts were the Reptile Hut (pictured below with a snake on the wall), and the Bobcat/Cougar enclosures. Very fun to see those animals.
I hope that I will come back in 10 years and this place is vastly improved, because it has all the potential in the world

Our families enjoyed this walking zoo. It's on the smaller side but our family appreciated that the animals here were saved from their natural habitats. We spent around 2-3 hours walking and exploring. Some of the exhibits need renovating but the animals don't seem to mind. I do have to mention the prairie dog exhibit as I've never seen one before and our kids loved it. Kids also loved the javelinas. It did get hot walking but luckily they had some cold drinks to buy at the gift shop at the end. We also loved the plants for sale and spent $ buying a few. I suggest this place to other families if they want a zoo experience but keep in mind that this place needs renovations.

Awesome! It's a little rundown but is still a fantastic experience. We saw a lot of wildlife. My kids loved all the animals. I loved the lilly pond, it was beautiful and serene. The staff and volunteers are also amazing and worth a mention. Great place to explore when visiting the area. If you get a chance to visit, you should go!

I love the idea of this zoo! It's interactive and we enjoyed learning about the desert plants and animals. I do agree with some commenters that it does need a little love and care in some areas, mostly in the beginning of the trail. Some areas look newer. Restrooms were clean. Staff was really nice! Gift shop had reasonable prices!

This was a great place to stop with the family! They have wheel chairs available as well since the walking path is at least a mile outside. They had free books for all ages while we were there as well which was an added bonus.

Really enjoyed our visit here. Found the variety of desert plants fascinating in a lovely setting with excellent explanations. We particularly appreciated the information about the various nutritional and medicinal properties which previous inhabitants were aware of.
The birds and animals provide an extra attraction. Good that park takes in injured and orphaned creatures. Some enclosures so good the animals can't be seen.
Daniel Deery — Google review
This place was amazing! I love this place well worth the money! They definitely need and deserve more funding. My only notes are the trail was a bit difficult to follow, we almost missed the mountain lion and bobcat exhibit, and it was hard to see the wolves for the tree growth at the front of the enclosure.
When you go make sure to head there early. We came in about 10am and saw most of the animals. We had to wait for the feeding to see the bear and the hooves animals were bedded down on the shade, but still awesome to see. Keep in mind most of these animals are orphans, unreleasable or rescued from captivity. 10/10 recommend going. I will be back!!

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a well-known and popular national park that boasts limestone caves, rock formations, and hiking trails. The cave system is massive and requires visitors to either take an elevator or embark on a 1.25-mile subterranean walk to reach the main chamber. While not as famous as other national parks like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone, Carlsbad Caverns certainly holds its own in terms of awe-inspiring natural wonders.
They truly are epic. This isn’t a 30 minute excursion. You will need at least 2 hours to explore and marvel at the stunning beauty and be in awe of the off the chart scale of these caverns that just keep giving the further into them you go. The paths are steep in places but they have lots of stop benches to rest. Hand rails to hold onto because the lighting is low. And an elevator to bring you back up after you have seen it all. Do not miss out!
Bryan S — Google review
Wonderful! Absolutely amazing. I took so many pictures because all of it was worth being able to see over and over again. The walk down through the natural entrance is definitely worth the extra 1.25miles. You see so many interesting creations in the caverns and learn a lot about how the caverns formed. We went back that night and watched millions of bats leave the caves!

Absolutely amazing place to visit. I hiked the whole trail, and it was magical. I suggest wearing a good pair of hiking boots or sports shoes. It was nice and cool, I'd say around 56 degrees. Some sections of the trail aren't wheelchair friendly. However, you can choose to take the elevator, which leads you to the big room. I got there at 8:30 in the morning (they open at 8 and not much people there), and it was amazing because when I came back to the main lobby after the hike, it was PACKED with people. There aren't restrooms along the trail except at the beginning (before you enter the cavern), and at the end (located by the elevators) of the trail. A couple of employees had left a bad taste in my mouth as they were kind of rude. However, that did not ruin my time there, and the other employees were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I highly recommend visiting! It took me about 2hrs to complete, but I did stop a lot to take pictures. So you can walk the trail in 1-3hrs depending on how fast you want to complete.

This park never disappoints if you want incredible sights and scenery. We made our reservation in advance and were able to purchase tickets on site quickly and easily with very little wait. If you want a challenge, try the hike down to the caverns. It's dark and can be slippery in spots due to the water so come prepared. If you have small children you may want to stick to the elevators due to the obvious risks. Definitely a place worth visiting at least once.

The caverns are absolutely gorgeous, from top to bottom. If you're exploring the natural entrance, go *down*, not up - it's quite the trek!
We did both the self-guided tour, and the ranger-guided tour, and enjoyed them both. The ranger was knowledgeable and entertaining, and the slower pace of the self guided tour let us take copious pictures. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd love to go back!

What a great national park. We’ve been to several caves in the US including mammoth cave national park but this may be my favorite. The sheer size within the cave is incredible. They do a great job at lighting significant features and there are signs all over with history or facts. If your health permits make sure to do the climb down into the cave and then take the elevator out but don’t take the elevator to get down in the cave or you’ll miss out on some great scenery and the entrance. Highly recommend visiting. Really enjoyed this one.

We have visited beautiful cave systems in the US as well as in other countries and I was amazed at this remarkable treasure. A MUST see! Allow yourself plenty of time and if at all possible walk down into the cave. I was in awe at every turn. Kudos to the Park Service and rangers for keeping it all in such good condition and managing the many visitors with patience and professionalism. I was super impressed to see that there are clean, regular public restrooms at the bottom of the cave - better and cleaner than what is available in some cities or on the side of some interstate highways! The gift shop and food service were what you may expect. Despite going during the week and off season, it was busy! Be sure to book your times entry on the park service site ahead of time, and check in (you still have to wait in line) within the one hour window. Parking fills quickly. This is a MUST see!

Pictures and videos don't do justice. The experience was amazing! You have to visit to get what I mean. We did our own tour and did the natural entrance trail. Visit their website because we have to reserve a time spot for when we can go in. It's a must to visit this national park¡

Absolutely stunning! And well run. I appreciate the timed entry program. We presented our reservation and were immediately sent over to the elevator for our self guided tour. Expectations were set appropriately. There were rangers available for questions, the gift shop and restaurant were not crowded, and everyone was pleasant.
Later that day, I came back for a drive along the 9.5 mile loop road and was treated to lovely scenery, plants, and wildlife.
This was a great experience!

The caverns were phenomenal! The paved path made it easy to navigate your way through, but the ups and downs did give the walk-through some challenge. With 3 kids, it took us about 1.5 hours to do the entire cave. This of course includes the multiple stops we made to take in the views.
While the cave is nice and cool, I was happy that we could take our water bottles in to stay hydrated.

Absolutely amazing!!!! If you are physically able take the natural cave opening down into the cavern. Words nor pictures can describe the awesomeness of this place. It is a must see if you are at all interested in caverns. The elevator ride is an experience in itself but the caverns, just wow! It is cool literally and figuratively, be prepared.

You need to book reservations here even if you have a park pass. Reservation are $1 per person. We had to wait in a super long line to get tickets to enter the caverns. Thankfully a ranger going through the line asking everyone to make reservations online. We showed her our park pass and she gave us a handwritten ticket. We bypassed that whole line and took the elevator down to the caverns. It was truly a beautiful place. Whole hike had handrails and pavement compared to other caverns. Pretty safe for young kids. We walked through the whole area and decided to leave through the natural cave entrance. Beware that whole trail was uphill. Both my husband and I were both in our mid 30s and decently active but that uphill trek is considered pretty stenous. We were out of breath that whole mile back up.

It a little bit of a drive to get here, but well worth it. There was plenty of parking (off season, weekday, 1st week of November.) I got here at 2:15pm and pick up one of the last tickets for the day. I chose to walk down and take the elevator back up. It took me almost an hour to walk down because I kept stopping to take pictures (took over 150 (way too many.)) It took me another hours to walk around once I made it down there. There are bathrooms at the bottom just us case you need them :) It was darker than I was expecting but I had no problem walking. I did use the handle railing a few times on the way down as it was quite steep (20% grade.) I did not see any bats while I was here, oh well. This was an amazing national park and would recommend it for families of all ages. If you are able, bring a meal and sit outside and enjoy the view over the valley.

Fantastic cave with two viewing options: fast elevator down or you can walk in, which takes an hour. We were short on time and took the elevator 700 feet down. The walkway through the cave was fairly easy. The lighting was designed for maximum enjoyment. There is even a pathway designed for wheelchair accessibility.

Absolutely loved walking the full cave tour on our own. So much downhill walking that the elevator ride up at the end was welcoming. We went in late January and there were a few other groups, but nothing that made it feel crowded. Restrooms at the top and restrooms at the bottom, in the cave, are available. It appeared they had outside kennels for your pets as you can’t leave them in your car, per the signage.

One of the best places I’ve visited in US. This place is sort of a wonder. Words would not be enough to describe the beauty of this place. What’s more intriguing is thinking about the first ever traveller who would have embarked upon journey into this cave when there weren’t paved and well lighted paths.
I would highly recommend hiking down the cave and using elevator to come back, though elevator is available for travel both the ways in case someone couldn’t hike steep 800ft into the cave.

Buy your reservation time slot tickets up to 30 days in advance. They only sell tickets in person vs online, which is strange since you reserve a time slot online. Their process overall sucked, stand in line 30 mins to buy tickets, 2 employees working. Then head down to the checkpoint and get the behavior lecture and ticket check. Not sure why they don't have self service kiosks and or advanced ticket purchases. They bunch everyone up with this process. You have endless bunches of traffic vs spread out. A very steep walk down and kids under 10 unless hikers will complain. The bat smell is stronger every time I visit. 40 years of visiting Still amazing each time that this is all under our feet and we get to enjoy such a great trail. The concession at the bottoms are all gone. They have very little seating options compared to years ago. About a 15 minute wait to take the elevator out. With all that it is truly amazing and a must see. The big room has many formations making the elevator down and big room and back up the best bang for your buck.

Wow, wow, wow the caverns are amazing. We walked down to the caves and did the full loop which was a bit of a hike but worth it. Took the elevator up which it seems like almost everyone does. A really impressive visit. Make sure to reserve a time in advance on reservation.gov

Great place to visit with the kids and a must see for everyone! We have three boys and they were utterly fascinated with the wonders of the tunnels and caves, nooks and crannies of this underground marvel. We took the elevator down 754 feet vs the 1hr hike down the natural trail, and enjoyed comfortable 56° temps. We weren't able to have a guided tour but that would have been helpful. The self guided tour has handrails, rest areas, and a paved path with numbered markers (not certain what they were for). There were also spotlights and some signage along the route explaining the different formations and sights. A shortcut is available before going to the infamous "Big room" if the trail gets too much or need a detour to the bathroom. But highly recommend using the bathroom ahead of time! Reservations are necessary! Plan ahead and sign up for the ranger guided tour....take as many pictures as you want.... There's no time limit so take your time and enjoy the quiet breathtaking and awesome views of what WE consider to be one of God's miraculous creations (both before and after the worldwide flood)! Happy exploring!

Absolutely gorgeous. The park rangers were very helpful. They advised that if hiking, we do the descent to the big room, then take a break (there were bathrooms, a snack stand, and gift shop down there where you can rest) then do the loop. It was helpful advice.

We went on a Monday so it was nice and calm. Very little crowds. They stop letting people in at 2:30pm. It’s a large cave to hike; get ready to feel the burn on your thighs! It was such an experience and I can’t wait to come back. Park
Rangers were friendly. Front desk and restaurant staff not so friendly. But didn’t let that bother me. Definitely recommend for a quick family trip if everyone doesn’t get tired fast and willing to put it some good cardio. Bring alight jacket if you’re sensitive to the cold. What’s nice, is there is an elevator if needed and can’t walk all the way down to the cavern. I would like to see the bats sunrise and do the tours next!

Oh my god what a gem of a place. I surely want to rate this as one of the best places I have visited in my life no pictures or videos can do any justice to this place one should visit and experience the magnificence of this place.
You can spend about 3-4 hours in the natural trail which takes you to big room if you want you can hike back or take an elevator. You can take elevator if you don’t want to walk down which will directly take you to big room.
Make sure you schedule appointment, no appointment no entry. Check the online website $2 for appointment for each person. The last entry is 02:30 later no entry.
You will have an hour time after your appointment time is passed. So try to be on time because of the limited appointments, if you are late might not be able to make it.
The closest city with good restaurants and hotels is Carlsbad.

Stunning and highly recommended to visit..! Make sure you reserve a self guided tour slot online before you visit - even if you have a national park pass. You need this if you plan on hiking in through the Natural Entrance or taking the elevator down.
If you plan on doing the King's Palace Tour - you will need a reservation for that AND the self guided tour, too.
The Natural Entrance hike into the caverns is HIGHLY recommended but the descent is steep - 75 stories or so. You can take the elevator up or down from the Visitor Center if mobility challenged.
There are bathrooms and water fountains inside the cavern once you complete the Natural Entrance hike or exit the elevators.

For "just a cave," it is really a great and well managed national park. There is a huge visitor center with a ton of exhibits on the wildlife and history of the cave that is great for all ages. Huge gift shop and even a cafe and grab-and-go, which is great since there's not much else to eat in the area.
Recommend taking the natural entrance down the 1.25 miles (1 hour) into the cave to see where the bats live and the cave formations along the way. It's much easier to take the elevator ride back up.
The Big Room self guided tour is amazing, I didn't see a need to pay extra and take the guided Kings Palace tour. The Big Room is 1.3 miles and has the best formations and spaces in the arcade. It's well described by the information boards along the way, and you can go at your own pace.

First impression, they need to do something different about the lines for ticket purchasing. Not sure if every weekend is as busy as it was on Mar 30, 2024, but it got to the point that if you didn’t have a reservation, you were removed from line since walk up tickets were all sold out. There has to be a way to manage ticketing online.
Now to the real thing of Caverns. Breathtaking experience that needs to be encountered in person. Definitely the best experience is through natural entrance. It’s a magical wonderland. You get a feeling that you are in totally different world. How is it not one of the wonders of the world? Super surprised it’s only $15 for ticket. I imaged it would be much more for such an experience.

Amazing, breathtaking, incredible. Not sure how else to describe it. A top 5 life experience/core memory.
Walk down the caverns & take the elevator up. You have to make a reservation ahead of time. Long lines first thing in the morning, but they moved us through quickly.
Views from up top are amazing!
The gift shops were really nice. Lots of different options. The one to the right of the entrance has the passport stamps. The one to the left has a penny machine. Both have very different options available for purchase.
Restaurant was a little pricey, but the food was good!

This is such a beautiful place to visit with family. These caves were not in our plan. We were driving for Guadalupe mountains. When on the way we saw sign board for Carlsbad caves, we decided to have a quick stop. It was worth the reroute.
If planned well there is place to camp and bat watching which is one of the main thing for these caves. Always watch the video in welcome center for how the caves are formed gives very good insight about the caves.

Truly breathtaking - a jewel of New Mexico. Came here with my friend on a weekend and we made reservations to go down online in advance ($1 each). Once you’ve parked, you must go to the line to obtain a green receipt to allow you to go down either the elevator (just the big room) or the natural entrance (a steep 1.5 mile walk down). It’s $15 per person for a self guided tour. Follow the sign for the natural entrance, which is located next to the bat amphitheater. Restrooms available at the visitor center, right before the natural cavern entrance, and at the bottom. The cafe in the Big Room wasn’t operating that day when we went. There are lights but if you’re afraid of the dark and/or claustrophobic, you may want to stay away. Once you go down the path, you can take your time exploring the caverns. If you have more time, you can make a reservation for a guided tour of other portions of the caverns.

The last time I visited the cavern was in the late 70's. I still remember the wooden stairs and wood platforms we had to walk down to get into the caverns. None of that now. There is a nice walking path all the way down (or up). As an adult, it's not as awe inspiring as when I was a kid, but it is still beautiful. Now I am seeing it through my kid's eyes and he really enjoyed it. The water level in the ponds and reflecting pools have gone down a couple of feet. I do not know if it is down all year long, or maybe it was due to the drought this past year. Its kept dark in the caverns so we brought our own flashlights to see more. Since we had an entrance time, it was a very short wait. Maybe 3-4 minutes to get our ticket, then we walked straight to the cave opening. Even thought there was only a single elevator working, the wait time to go up was no more than 10 minutes. My only complaints are the lights. They light highlight the special areas. But the bulbs cast a soft yellow hue which washes out the true color of the formations. We brought clear white light / daylight flashlights for better color. Highly recommend a trip if you are traveling nearby. But it not a spur of the moment destination... you need to buy an entry time before, or you might not be able to get in.
Intimate museum with permanent exhibits on local & regional artwork & artifacts, plus a gift shop.
I really enjoyed this museum! It was free, which was nice. It had a variety of different art work there. It isnt very big, but they did a lot with the space they had. Nicely done. I love the diplay of all the local talent and the history of those who were from Carlsbad or made their homes there. The lady who greeted you was very kind and helpful. She answered any questions with a smile on her face and was always very nice.

Free museum - bathrooms - water fill station - lots of parking adjacent, too.
Very nice for 1-2 hour visit.. to include that many of the WW2 Bataan Death March soldiers were from New Mexico, too.
The temporary exhibit about guitars was extremely detailed and informative..!

An ever evolving gem that highlights local culture and history, while bringing in exhibits that bring artist and cultures from around the world to our community.

What a lovely collection! The museum has many exhibits that illustrate the history of the area. There's a little bit of everything. Indigenous pieces, fiber art, war artifacts, sculptures, and a very cool room about famous locals.
We especially enjoyed the horse and buggy as well as the antique stagecoach. The kids loved the room full of arrowheads. When I visited there was a large display of art made by kids from the local schools, much of it quite impressive.
Give yourself about an hour to see everything. Admission is free.

Awesome museum! My family and I came across this museum while visiting Carlsbad Cavern, and decided to stop by to check it out.
There’s no admission fee, and it’s a great place to spend a few hours looking at artifacts!
The museum is clean and well spaced, we love this little museum.

Great experience. I really loved the military history exhibit!
I am still in awe!! I vaguely remember visiting Carlsbad Caverns once as a child, and what I did remember was how much I enjoyed the adventure!! I can definitely say that this visit to the caverns is something I will never forget. From the descent into the cave, all the way down to the mind-blowing views of the beauty within the planet we get to call our home... I still can't find the words to express how amazing this experience is! This nature filled journey, into our planet, is most-definitely one to put on your bucket list. You know just in case it's not already on it 😁. If you have children, I recommend waiting until they are about 7-8 yrs old so that they will be more open to enjoying this beautiful experience with you. My two younger kids wanted to just race the whole time while my 7 yr old took the time to capture the moment and really let the peaceful ambience really soak in. If you are energized by your presence in nature, I absolutely advise to visit Carlsbad Caverns at least once... Or twice... Or more, who knows?! All I am saying is that you are missing out on mother nature's beautiful creations within if you haven't visited yet.

I fell in love with Carlsbad Cavers when I came here with my family when I was seven. I brought each of my daughters here to experience the majesty of our incredible planet with me. While the unguided walking route is reduced now compared to my initial visit forty-five years ago. I still love the wonder if this incredible place as much today as I did the first time I visited.

Jewel Cave National Monument was impressive but Carlsbad Caverns National Park was even more impressive. Big difference is you can walk all the way down at Carlsbad, like 750 feet down and it takes about 60-90 mins to trek down and the path down feels like Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth novel!
You can climb back by walk or using the elevator like we did. We saw amazing rock formation and at the end there is the Bottomless Pit. We did the Big Room tour and takes about an hour. It is just fantastic and a bit intimidating.
Save yourself trouble and buy entry tickets on-line, just a 1$/per (plus general entrance fees) b/c it is qui busy and walk-in tickets were not avail when we got there. We saw folks turned back and access to the Caverns end at 2:30pm.
Our boys truly enjoyed it and got their junior ranger badge.

One of Natures great wonders. Thoroughly enjoyed my day there. Wear good non slip shoes if walking in from the cavern entrance . I would highly recommend this as great National Park destination . Also remember to make your reservations ahead so you dont get turned away at the check in line . Remember Carlsbad is in the desert so if you dont like cactus , rocks and Huge expanses make sure you have more destinations on your agenda.

We were totally blown away. This place was amazing. The cave didn't feel as cool as expected, so just a light jacket was sufficient (plus, you are walking a lot).
I would recommend taking the 1 mile hike down into the cave rather than taking the elevator--it is worth the walk and fun to imagine how the cave was discovered and explored from that entrance.
It is good to have some water, even though the cool temperatures keep the thirst at bay.

It's the greatest cave that I've ever seen. You should come once in life. It will take at least 3 hours to see all of the cave. It's really huge. I will come back because today it was raining all day that I couldn't see the bat. The ticket is $15 per adult and free for children of all ages.

Visited a few National Parks and can tell you: this is one of the best.
The amount of work the Park Service put into allowing public access to
these wonders - is the wonder in its own right.
Logistics: you can stay @ Carlsbad, if you need extra cushy comfort
OR
you can park @ the Whites City, White's City Cavern Inn.
Do advanced reservation: saves you the spot, as this particular date
might be packed.
Dress lightly: leave bulky stuff in the car.
Pick the right "neighbors" : some might ruin your experience.
No flash, no loud talk: whisper your excitements into your friend's ear.
Worth every mile of your trip!

An absolutely beautiful park! We visited at 11am on a Friday, so crowds were lesser. We did the self guided tour because I tend to walk a little slower due to some physical limitations. I use a cane for mobility and balance. We took the elevator down and up with no wait. There was really no problem for me navigating the trail. It is well paved and maintained. There are adequate places to sit and rest. We did not take the suggested jacket or long sleeved tops and found it to be very pleasant without. The caverns are beautiful. I cannot begin to describe the vast beauty. Plan about 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on your mobility level.

This park is a little different from others
It's almost on the Mexican border and gets very hot and dry in the summer months.
The park itself is pretty much the cave, that is what you pay for. The trails etc are free to use without payment, but they are kinda barren and dry.
Cave tours seemed to end at 1:30pm so kinda early, online bookings didn't let us book the morning of even though there are spaces available.
There is an elevator for the cave which goes to The Big Room (creative!), But the walk down is the best way. To walk it all, it's maybe 2 miles or so. It's a good hike. Hiking back up, a little further, maybe 3 miles. You can take elevator either direction.
If the booking system was better, then it's worth 5 stars.

I was excited to come here AND was completely blow away about how much cooler it was in person! The cavern was absolutely massive! I wasn’t expecting it to be so big! Solid place to come hiking during the hot summer months. A nice cool 56ish degrees in the cavern. Would definitely visit again.

It was an ok experience. Biggest cave I have seen, but I have seen better formations in other caverns. (For great formations go to Sonora Caverns in Texas!)
The park staff at the ticket counter seemed almost put out that we were visiting. No map or info given when we checked in for our tickets. Definitely a lack of signage in various places, including the general cavern entrance.
We were here in November, can't imagine being here when it's crowded. Even with physical limitations it was doable, but slow. We were there for about two hours. The cafe at the cave bottom was closed, they didn't bother to explain that. People with flashlights definitely ruin the experience.
The cafe at the visitor center was pretty sparse. So we headed down the hill to Whites City, but the cafe was closed.

If you like caves, this is amazing. The cave is huge! You have a choice of taking the elevator or the natural entrance, which is 1.25 miles. You can go back out either way, walking or taking the elevator. Do make reservations, they sell out for the day on many occasions. Allow at least 3 hours to see the cave, there are restrooms outside the cave and inside the cave.

This place is huge! Definitely worth the 2.5hour detour for us. Get there well before 2:15. Nice that they have $10 dog kennel. Nice rangers, nice view from top. Remember to reserve your time online. We spent a good 2 hours in the cave.

Great park. Definitely something everyone should see. Pretty indescribable. Don’t miss the above ground stuff too. Old guano trail is really nice. And try and go when the bats are there. Almost cooler than the cave. Try and get tickets for the ranger guided tours, super worthwhile and gets you to different rooms.

Second time visiting Carlsbad caverns. My wife and I were able to visit and experience caverns with few to no people. Was so easy to explore and really nice to have place to almost no one around. Visited during the week (Thursday). Saw some new things I missed the first time. Got to see bats out of the cave in the evening hours as well. Very cool experience. A must visit if your in the area. Planning another visit with some family members that are more intrigued about them.

Was a great experience! I was impressed by how deep, the size of the stalagmites and stalactites. Temperature was nice, around 55°. We completed the whole cavern in 1hr 20min without a guide. Be prepared to walk. You are allowed to bring only water.

It's located in a very secluded location. It's worth a drive no doubt. The cave was huge and took more than an hour to finish the whole thing. Bring a good quality camera or smartphone as it's worth keeping it as remembrance.
Highly recommend it to anyone and the scenery creates so many images and cool imaginations.

Very organized visitor center. As soon as you enter in the entrance you see the desk service onto the right to buy tickets or appointments online check in options where they will find out your appointment and issue a ticket. Explore sometime about the history of the Park and walk straight for the natural trial or you can take an elevator directly to the big room in the cavern. I highly recommend to take the trial while coming back you can take the elevator.
Make sure to book the appointment online, no appointment means less chance of getting in. $2 for the online appointment it’s a separate fee excluding the entrance fee per person.

Beautiful winding road leading up to the visitor center. Definitely recommend getting tickets in advance as most sell out days before. If you have to do a guided tour that's the way to go otherwise I recommend walking in through the natural entrance and riding the elevators back up. Have lunch at the picnic tables with a beautiful overlook of the valley below. The cavern itself is something you won't believe until you see it. Guadalupe mountain national Park is in the same mountain range and definitely worth a visit as well.

What an amazing experience!!! The caverns feel like some place from another world. These are grand and it takes about 90 minutes to tour. It also has a self guided hike trail if you don't get enough of the guided tour. Would definitely recommend!!!

This is such a unique and interesting place I cannot imagine being Jim White and going down do the different rooms 🤯
Yesterday they fully closed the cavern and no one could go down due to weather and today they didn't open until 10:00 and we still were not allowed to walk down the natural entrance. Even with that it was still really nice to go I haven't been to Carlsbad cavern in 10 years and it was really nice to go back and I hope to go back in the future too. They have a very nice gift shop as well. I love the information on placards all around the park I definitely recommend adding Carlsbad caverns to your travel list.

Worth the 8-hr drive! Amazing and fascinating and beautiful! We did have to wait one hour in line for tickets, even though we had a "reservation" at 11:30am. (Just be warned.) We walked down, spent more than 2 leisurely hours inside, and took the elevator up.

Grab a national park pass and go! Reserve online before going to make sure you don’t miss out, or go when all the kids are back in school. It will take about 3 hours if you take your time. Walk down. Elevator up. There is a cafe in the cave. Restrooms too.

Clean, comfortable place. Lots of history and information to take in about the caves and the area in general. You need to reserve you tickets in advance and buy them at the door... kind of an odd way to do it that made plans a little more difficult because we were traveling through at the time.

Without a doubt one of my favorites. What an experience to walk through these caves - the scale alone is breath-taking. I walked the entire route in the Big Room in about 1 1/2 hour. Not difficult. The lighting design is stunning! Highly recommended. Bring something warm!

We were here 25 years ago. Wanted to come back. Did the self tour again. Make sure you stop in the gift shop to get your audio tour hand set. Cost $5 per handset. Well worth it. We spent 3 1/2 hours in the cave

The coolest cave experience we have had! We have been to a lot of caves including Mammoth! For us, this was our favorite! The beauty and features of this case system are absolutely amazing! The Big difference with this cave system for us was that you could do a self-guided tour! Most cave systems were only guided tours. There is options to have a guided tour buy a ranger that bring you into additional cave systems. This is of course more money. It is $15 per adult unless you have park passes. The national park pass gets you into this cave system for free. We did not know about the audio guided devices you can rent from the bookstore. So we did this in about 2 hours. The kids really enjoyed! We definitely recommend taking the natural entrance down into the cave and then taking the elevator up. 😅. We learned our lesson.. It is very steep and a pretty strenuous walk down if you take that entrance. So be mindful. We did see a few people struggling and one needed rescuing. But the staff are always roaming and very helpful! The elevator takes you straight down 75 stories into the cave where you walk right into an area where you can have lunch down in the cave! They sell sandwiches chips and drinks. They also have a little gift shop where you can buy a postcards and send them in a blue box right from the cave! We thought that was cool! 10 out of 10 for experience!

What an experience! Don't take the elevator down, walk. Be sure to take a flashlight to use while your eyes become accustomed to the dark. Wear good shoes as you are walking downhill all the time. Wear what you wear for 55 degrees and out walking. Not really for little children as you use a handrail quite a bit of the time. No strollers or wheelchairs, too dangerous. If you have the opportunity, go!

I book time entry earlier from recreation app. Have my national park yearly pass, help me to save 30 min on line. Tours are already booked, can't find in app. Thinking might be available on that day. But not successful. Still I will say, caverns are beautiful and lot to explore. I walk till the end and take elevator for coming up. I walk near about 5miles.

Carlsbad Caverns National park was such a beautiful and unique experience. The visitor center has lot of interesting exhibits, gift shop and a theater. It also has a restaurant.
It is very kid friendly and the rangers an are super nice and helpful. Kids can get the junior ranger batch and get their national park passport stamped.
This is the third noteworthy cave we visited this year after Mammoth Cave National park, Kentucky and Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho
This one definitely is the most magnificent of all !
The descent was 700 feet (size of a 75 storied building) which takes you to a huge underground chamber - Big room
We saw the Stalactites and stalagmites in all its glory.
Some looked like popcorns, some looked like drapes, some like fairyland , some looked like a temple and what not…
The hike was about 3.5 miles through the dark steep slope but we did good and was totally worth it.
Also hats off the National Parks Service, USA for maintaining a place like this 👏👏

Had a great time here. It's about 800 feet below the ground.
We were the first ones down at 8:30 am. About 1.5 mile walk around down there. You could take the hike down instead of the elevator it's about another mile hike down.
If you have a wheelchair you wont be able to go the whole distance... They have a no wheelchair access part. It's not that chilly down there but maybe a light sweater would be handy if you get cold easily.
The Carlsbad Caverns Underground Lunch Room is a unique cafeteria-style eatery located below ground in a naturally formed cavern, making it a popular destination for tourists. The lunchroom underwent renovations in the 1950s to accommodate the increasing number of visitors, taking advantage of efficient food production and distribution systems. While some visitors found the food overpriced and not exceptional, many appreciated the experience of dining at the bottom of the cavern after exploring its wonders.
Amazing!

Cool spot to relax and eat either after you've come down the natural entrance or right before you leave. Sadly food selection is really lacking. They have ham or turkey sandwiches or salads for main meals. For snacks candy bars, some baked goods, small bags of chips, bottled soda and a few other small things. (At this time of posting 2023 sandwich costed $8.75, chips $1, brownie $4, soda $2.87, candy bar $2.19)

The caverns were amazing! Once in a lifetime experience. Food wasn't great and over priced and the bottom of the cavern, but we were famished and shared a sandwich. There are places to pull over on the road up to the caverns, we packed a cooler and pulled off for lunch with a view. Such an incredible experience! Highly recommend walking in!

The restaurant closes at 2 and they don’t sirve food at all, the cavern tickets stop selling at 2:30 and Google maps says at 5 so we made a long trip for nothing.
Also, the bar fly. Bars not coming out, park ranger suggest to stay all night because u may see them go in and out during the nigh. No sell pol home allowed like if there was something u could take pictures of. Not worth it to make the trip so disappointed 😔

2 stars on the inconsideration alone. One thing that you hear about Carlsbad Caverns is that there is a lunchroom at the bottom leading you to believe that you can make the hour and a half trek and get something to eat before spending an hour touring the big room. If you take medicine, have blood sugar issues, or some other reason you can't wait to eat, you better eat before hand. It would be nice if they or the National Parks Service would let you know ahead of time.

Absolutely beautiful. The area we stopped had bathrooms(not in the best condition). Kids got to run around and dogs are allowed!

Back in 1996 the lunch room at the bottom of the cavern had some really good food. But they have since shut it down. The fried chicken and other food being cooked at the bottom attracted wildlife into the cave so now they only serve refrigerated sandwiches, fruit cups and a few other items. I understand why but its just not the same anymore. We skiped the lunch down below and opted for a picnic at the tables near the parking lot. It has the best views.
