The New Sheridan Hotel is a vibrant 19th-century establishment that boasts two restaurants, a bar, and a rooftop lounge. It also offers convenient ski storage facilities for guests. One of its restaurants has been reviewed positively for featuring delectable Thai-flavored coconut milk mussels and a decent wedge salad. However, the French Onion Soup was reportedly underwhelming with bland broth lacking in any herbs commonly used like thyme.
During our visit to Telluride we came here 3 different times. We came for lunch, drinks & dessert, and for dinner on our last night. We had a wonderful experience each time. We encountered 3 employees in particular that were amazing. I wish I knew their names. The customer service that we received was just outstanding. Our server at lunch was so attentive and kind. He was knowledgeable when it came to the menu and he was fast without coming off rushed. The bartender that served us drinks and dessert had the best personality (he was from Wisconsin, I remember that much) and he multi-tasked so well. The drinks were delicious! We made a late reservation for dinner on our last night, and my husband went inside to make sure our reservation showed up. We had walked in earlier, but there was nothing available. After going in to check and make sure our reservation was set, we had about an hour and a half to kill before dinner. The hostess that night (1/18/22) actually called us and said that she had a place to put us if we'd like to come earlier. We couldn't have been more appreciative. What a lucky establishment, to have employees who go above and beyond to give excellent service. If we get the chance, we will definitely be back.

Their restaurant, the chophouse, is awesome. They always have Jack Daniels on special. New Sheridan is a great “old hotel”.

Went there for lunch a few weeks ago. The bar tender was extremely rude when we walked in… all he said was “WE ARE CLOSED” and turned around… I asked him if he had any other recommendations and he pointed outside and said yeah lots of places. The waiter noticed what was going on and came and apologized and recommended a Mexican restaurant… This bartender went completely out of his way to make us feel uncomfortable and embarrassed… VERY RUDE and unnecessary!

This review is for the restaurant. We just had 2 of us so did not try many things. I highly recommend the muscles in the Thai flavored coconut milk. Very delicious. Wedge salad was good. French Onion Soup: not that difficult to make, onions were carmalized, broth very very bland - almost watery, did not taste any herbs - typically thyme is an herb used. Pretty white wine and sherry or a hard alcohol like brandy or bourbon was used.
We had the espresso martini (I think it was called that) for dessert which is wonderful. I’m a freelance food critic & will go here again trying more options prior to a write up on this restaurant

Could I love this place more? I could not. The charm of the spaces, the care and thoughtfulness of the service, the friendly and welcoming people and the beautiful interiors are all a dream. I LOVE this hotel. The room was spacious and the bathroom beautifully appointed. I love the food. I love the staff. I love the beautiful, beeeeeeauuuuutiful old bar. This place is a complete gem, it’s the whole package. Come and spend your money here, they deserve it and you will enjoy it all. I can’t wait to come back.

Lovely hotel. Great staff. Nice rooms. But the noise from the bar downstairs made it impossible to sleep until after 2:00 a.m. The white noise machine helped but not enough to sleep. 😟

The bar tenders in the dining room are excellent!!
The bar tenders in the bar, could use some manners to say the least. They are working one of the nicest bars in Telluride, not O'Bannon's

Ray and the team run a great operation. Old(Historic) bar and rooftop are great for a happy hour drink in the afternoons. Enjoy

this place treats you like family from the moment you walk in! this is a rare gem in a sea of new developments in ski towns that carter to flashy folks. the photos truly don't do interior justice, it has old world charm but still is so well kept. the location is super convenient especially if you plan to ski. the breakfast is classic and so so good. the staff truly go above and beyond, we will never ever stay anywhere else! 11/10 would recommend ((:

If I could give more than 5 stars I would , from the moment we booked our reservation (directly with the front desk) to arrival and departure we were treated exceptionally ! the room was fantastic so comfortable, the rooftop bar stellar service, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else. Thank you so much for an incredible Birthday weekend

One of the most beautifully decorated and comfortable hotels we have ever stayed in. If visiting Telluride, you need to stay here. Every detail was thought about in designing this historic hotel. Immediately upon entry, the service was exceptional. We were welcomed by several employees, grabbing the door and helping with our luggage. Our room wasn't ready, but they were happy to store our luggage so we could walk around town and ride the gondola. They called when room was ready. We were in room 204 looking over the main street. They had a humidifier and a white noise machine to drown out street noise, which was great. The room was beautiful and well appointed. Top of the line mattress and linens. The bed was so cozy. The bathroom floors were heated. I appreciated the deep bath tub, which I soaked in after a long, cold night of walking around. The decor, the carpet, paint color, and historic pieces were so impressive to us. Even the carpeting on the stairs and hallways looked brand new. The restaurant and bar area were amazing. We cannot wait to return. Thanks to all the staff for a great experience.

This was our first trip to Telluride. We stayed at the very top of the mountain and I suffered from extreme altitude sickness. I rented 02 through Absolute Oxygen and did much better but needed to descend. On one of my sleepless nights, I found New Sheridan. Sara was so helpful, she took her time to talk to me and offer a solution. I came down to the village, had breakfast and checked in. My family stayed at the top of the mountain. The room was adorable, and the hotel was a little treasure of history. The historic element , yet modern creature comforts. Lots of pillows, super comfortable bed, clean, clean, clean! My first full night of sleep. Dinner was delicious. What a cozy and beautiful hotel! Thank you for the wonderful service from everyone I came in contact with. From front bar man, to servers to bell man! You made my Christmas that much better🎄Thank you

We stayed here during our last winter/ski trip. The hotel is older but well kept. The staff is friendly and rooms are clean. I don't have any complatint A little pricy for the room and no breakfast or additional amenities.

Excellent Hotel! Accommodating staff. Checkin was smooth and easy. Staff was friendly, accommodating and attentive. Hotel atmosphere is cozy & clean, perfectly located in downtown Telluride. The chop house is awesome too. Good food- great bartenders (Simon & Walter(?)). Manager, Ray was genuinely nice, accommodating and friendly. The maintenance guy, Carlos was super friendly too and fixed the tv promptly. He also helped us to get situated in our room. Overall very impressed and we would come back here again. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We really enjoyed our stay at the New Sheridan. We especially enjoyed all the historical pictures in the halls. Our room was very comfortable and the evaporative cooler worked well after a trek to the basement for ice. We also had a delicious meal in the dining room. The only area that I think needs improvement is the check-in process. It could be significantly streamlined. You cannot park in front of the hotel and it is not obvious where to park, so my husband circled the block while I went in to the hotel and asked. I was told to go up one block to the New Sheridan marked spaces, which you can park in for 15 minutes. I flagged down my husband and directed him to one of the spaces. We brought our luggage to the hotel and checked in. The person checking us in told me to take our luggage up (he offered to help) and then come back down for parking instructions. When I came back down there was nobody at the desk. At this point it has been longer than 15 minutes. After a short wait, I did get a virtual parking pass and was shown a picture of the sign to look for where I could park legally, but was told not to park where there were meters on certain streets (I had no idea which streets they were). I drove around until I thought I was parked legally, and walked back and described exactly where I was parked and was told it was ok. This long drawn out process could be easily solved by adding a link to the New Sheridan website with parking instructions for check-in, a note to bring your license plate number for the parking permit, and a picture of the correct parking sign with brief instructions for where to park and not park. In addition, every hotel I have stayed at for many years has given me the wifi password when I checked in, except the New Sheridan. I called the front desk, but nobody answered, so I went down and asked for the wifi password, which was given to me verbally (it was not complicated).

I am only able to give 5 stars to this hotel because Google doesnt give anymore. My wife and I were only supposed to stay 1 night. However she became very ill and had to visit the hospital the morning we were supposed to leave. A great big thank you to Ray (owner and GM) and his staff for looking after us. They were able to get us a room for a second night. The staff there was wonderful and ensured we had everything we needed while she recuperated. Ray even took us and picked us up at the local clinic! We cant thank you all enough! We highly recomend this establishment for anyone looking to relax and be taken care of.

Telluride’s oldest hotel/bar! Lovely long bar with good service and some tables to the side. Walk further back and you’ll find a buzzing room with pool tables and foosball! Good apres ski crowd or perfect for a quick one before dinner.

Best place to park to ride the gondola, it's free!!!! This is also the best way to visit Telluride, since parking is so limited and expensive. Just ride the gondola into town

Locally inspired resort offering modern rooms & suites, plus a casino, an indoor pool & mini-golf.
We were here for a work related party event and it was a great time! The rooms were beautiful and clean. The bathrooms were spacious and there was a walk in shower and a tub!
The pool was great, but it is only 3.5 feet deep throughout the whole pool. It would have been amazing for our kiddos!
The casino was nice and looked like it had quite a bit of options for playing.
The food we received at our party was great, but we didn't visit the bar afterward to try anything else. I would definitely return.
Kendall Dixon-calhoun — Google review
From the outside looking in you would imagine this Casino to be great, filled with an immense opportunity for a great time. Unfortunately, taking your first step in you are greeted with a very rude group of check in personnel. My partner and I came from 5 hours away and arrived at 2 with the check-in time being at 3. Most places that have 4 floors of rooms will allow you to check in early especially if there is almost no one at the resort. We were told the room would not be ready even though we did not see a single other person walk in to stay at the resort. We also had to ask to put our bags in a secure area so that we may use the facilities at the resort, something that should be offered if you are not able to check in early. You have to pay for drinks at this casino which is a horrible rule being that every other casino in Colorado gives you free drinks if you are at least putting money in their machines. The bartenders at this resort are some of the worst I have experienced in my life. Asking for drinks was addressed by side eye glances, rolled eyes, and smacking of the mouth. The two women who were serving us were incredibly disrespectful and should not be in this profession. When a bartender can't give you even the slightest eye contact they should never expect to receive a tip from a patron. Take a trip to Durango if you need some great bartender service at Gazpacho! The service at Sky Ute is absolutely abysmal, the only reason for the 2 stars is the room and the pool. Although the shower in the room was horribly designed, the pool was very unique. Glad we took some of their money home in winnings from the slots!

I visited the Sky Ute for the Scrapin the Rockies event. Seeing custom vehicles inside was a beautiful touch to the event. The staff was super friendly and the hotel is well kept.
Only 2 personal complaints. My mini fridge in the room definitely needs to be defrosted to help regulate the temp. It was turned up, but barely cold. There is about 2"-3" of ice built up around the freezer part. 2nd one is food. There's quite a few places to eat, but they are only open certain hours of the day. Just a suggestion, and I'm sure it's a lack of staffing. But it would be awesome if willows was open all day during the event. The menu at Rolling thunder is very limited(1 page) compared to Willows(2 pages). Just my observation. Thank you for doing a burger on fry bread.
The pool area is pretty awesome too. I like that it's not easily accessible.
Brunch Dizzle — Google review
Great resort, lots to do, great food, great rooms, the pool was amazing same for the gym. A bit of a climb away from everything you got to go a few miles to a store if you need anything, but other than that a great experience.

We loved this casino. It was very fun to play here. The employees were all friendly and smiling with wonderful We story. Did not stay in hotel but gambled and ate dinner. The ribeye steak was perfect. All sides were excellent but the spinach was standout delicious. I am in process of booking a stay here in the next month. So excited yo return!

Giving this secret hidden gem a definite five star. Rooms are reasonably priced. The casino offers great options for different types of slot machines. Anytime I had to interact with staff they took care of everything and went above and beyond for some of the best customer service experience I’ve ever experienced and wow it was impressive. Great job guys keep up the good work. My room was excellent very clean easy to navigate to and didn’t hear any anybody else. On the floor I was assigned. I’m definitely going to be back here as being treated like a king! Very impressive.
The rooms were above clean and very well maintained. Impressed with everything they had offered and all around was a great experience recommend for anyone who wants to experience a 5 star hotel restaurant and everything that they offer. Very impressed and recommended for everyone!!

Clean rooms! Great pool and hot tub! I'd give a 5 star if our toilet handle wasn't broken when we got in our room. We dealt with it because you guys were booked out the night we were there and wanted to be close to our friends. We seriously enjoyed ourselves. The staff was good to us too!
Cali VanBuren — Google review
As a casino I would have given them 4 stars.
As a "Hotel-Resort" I'm pushing it with 2 stars.
In brief, it's easy to recognize it was a very nice hotel at one time. But maintenance hasn't kept up.
To many broken, dirty and worn out items to list them all. But they were so abundant we debated on whether to check-out after just an hour in our room.
Some could be blamed on poorly supervised cleaning standards, but much more appears to be the result of unqualified maintenance supervision.
There is no excuse for shower controls falling off in your hand. Toilets rocking because they aren't anchored properly, cockeyed-loose toilet seats and much more. These are not difficult or expensive issues to correct. But there needs to be the desire to keep everything working properly, and that's what we felt was the core problem. When you find so many shortcomings, you have to conclude that those responsible just don't care.
It's my intention to email the the facility CEO with a full list of issues simply because in spite of the short commings, we did encounter many professional, wonderful and helpful employees. Reviews such as this certainly don't help them, but they are not in a position to address them either. These are management issues.

Great place to go and have fun. Great time for the whole family. Bowling, gambling, food, lodging. Had a great time. Service was lacking a bit in certain areas. Although, to be fair, some areas were very busy. That was the only downside of my experience. Otherwise, family very much enjoyed it.

We went in for a spell and we’re planning to eat but all the restaurants are apparently closed on Monday’s. So anyhow we had drinks at the lounge and our server Derick was amazing. He was so polite and friendly and very helpful in giving us recommendations for our vacation. The drinks were spot on and we had fun in the casino!

I love this place there's bowling and car shows in the summer. The player's club is not for me every time I use the card I lose money faster.

We love Mel! (From 7 Rivers) Rooms are always impeccable! The pool, the bowling, there's so much activities. Breakfast with Hannah at Willows is always delicious. The casino floor is always a blast, but the machines are kinda tight. And it's a little hard to get the points for the promotions. The only reasons for the missing star.
I highly recommend visiting this casino.

Stand in line for this cafeteria looking restaurant.. 30minutes …. Sat in uncomfortable table and waited for waitress to notice us 34minutes… waitress states with a sarcastic attitude that food will take 1-1.5 hours.. didn’t even offer a drink lol.. straight to the point. So I asked her if that’s the way they tell their customers to leave? Anyway ordered at 6:51 it’s 7:34 and not even a piece of bread or a update on food. This place so far sucks. Just to get food it’s 2 hour this better be the best steak and shrimp ever because obviously they have to fish and kill the cow. As per my experience traveling all over the world. Bread service should be offered especially for waiting. After receiving our super bad meal at 7:58 the lady manager with short short hair , apologized she was so sweet and professional yet embarrassed by the kitchen she did not charge us, that’s why I up it to two stars.

During my recent visit to the Sky Ute Casino and Resort, I was treated to a truly exceptional experience that combined luxurious accommodations, thrilling entertainment, and budget-friendly options. This five-star review is a testament to the remarkable hospitality, exciting gambling opportunities, and affordable amenities that make Sky Ute Casino and Resort a standout destination.
Upon arrival, I was delighted to find that our King bed room with a balcony surpassed our expectations. The spacious and comfortable accommodations provided a serene retreat after a day of excitement. The balcony offered breathtaking views, allowing us to unwind and take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The attention to detail and commitment to providing a luxurious experience was evident throughout our stay.
Dinner and gambling were the highlights of our visit, and Sky Ute Casino and Resort did not disappoint. The wide range of gaming options, from slots to table games, ensured that there was something for everyone. The thrill of the games combined with the friendly and attentive staff made for an exhilarating atmosphere. What made our experience even more special was our luck at the tables, resulting in significant winnings. The combination of entertainment and the possibility of winning made our time at the casino truly unforgettable.
One of the standout aspects of our visit was the affordability of the entire experience. Despite the luxurious accommodations and thrilling entertainment, Sky Ute Casino and Resort offered reasonably priced options throughout our stay. The meals, in particular, were a standout. The breakfast the next day was delicious and provided a satisfying start to our day. The fact that everything was very affordable, including the meals, added an extra layer of satisfaction to our overall experience.
Beyond the exceptional amenities, what truly sets Sky Ute Casino and Resort apart is the staff's dedication to ensuring a memorable and enjoyable visit. Their friendly and professional demeanor made us feel welcome and cared for throughout our stay. They were readily available to answer any questions, provide recommendations, and ensure that our needs were met. Their commitment to exceptional service added a personal touch that elevated our experience to new heights.
In conclusion, Sky Ute Casino and Resort is a gem that combines luxury, entertainment, and affordability in a truly remarkable way. The King bed room with a balcony provided a serene and comfortable haven, while the dinner and gambling experiences were filled with excitement and enjoyment. The affordability of the entire experience, including meals, further enhanced our visit. With friendly staff and a commitment to providing an unforgettable experience, Sky Ute Casino and Resort deserves every bit of its five-star rating.

Actually, the first stay was fantastic. Room 208 was clean and really nice. A week layer o was on room 413. This was what, on the surface, was a similar room, but this was a used and less than clean room. I gave great reviews for my first stay. Clean. Large space. Clean. Great bathroom. Clean. Comfy beds. Clean... Yes, there is a pattern. Second stay... not so much. Hair in the tub and sink. Aldo, the sink didn't drain. The bathroom and room vanity/desk were damaged and VERY used. There was blood on the comforter of one of the beds and stains on the carpet. The shower had pink mold and was really unstable around the door. Now, to be fair, again, room 208 was nice. No issues. Clean. Almost...new. I'm not sure what the deal is, but. I know I felt cheated. Just be aware of and check before you commit. Tisha, the manager was nice, I do think she would have tried to make things right if I had said, but I just needed a place to stay. ALSO...as a veteran, I received my discount on the first stay, but the hotel would not honor on my second stay. Please take a moment and verify. Again, I loved my first experience!!!! 4 stars. Hoodwinked the second.

This is always a nice place to visit when I get a chance. It's not a far drive from Durango and is full of nice scenery. There are a variety of places to eat or drink. The night life scene is a change of pace and draws a good crowd. The slot machines are nice and give you the opportunity to keep playing. The building is very nice and clean. Plenty of parking. Have fun.

Beautiful location, great place to enjoy entertainment. Bar service sucked. The bartenders (2) located on the casino floor need a lesson in customer service. I observed a bar tender complete several transactions with cutting limes, handling cash then placing a lime in a Corona bottle and serving it to customers without washing her hands. This Casino does not have enough of food options available. They are in much need to hire staffing but they can sure keep liquid fuel going to their customers until they close. The gift shop should have more snack options since there are no vending machines available and no restaurants open late in the evening. In the flip side, the restrooms are well maintained, very clean.

I stayed here for a work trip. The rooms were great although a small kitchenette would be really nice. The pool is big in the fitness area is pretty up-to-date. The laundry takes quarters. The event center is absolutely amazing, their banquet rooms and bingo hall is cool. Their bowling alley is really nice and the restaurants in the building are great.
I won the biggest jackpot of my life here. Cannot wait to come back! Sign up for the players club if you’re going to gamble. You get some cool free stuff.

The food was good, nice pool, decently priced meals. The table games were not open on the Monday and Tuesday we were there. They have a bowling alley and putt putt in the summer. If you want early check in they will charge you 25$.
They are strict on check out times.

My family and I loved staying here. We came in on Christmas day (had tickets for the Polar Express in Durango) and stayed for 3 nights. I loved the pool and bowling alley for the kiddos. In the mountains, there is a resort that offers both summer and winter activities. It boasts a large area for skiing and snowboarding with quick lifts that minimize waiting times. The backside of the mountain is particularly fast with no long lines. There are many groomed areas to explore and multiple routes to take, making it an ideal destination for those who enjoy spending time on the slopes. Additionally, live bands perform at the base, adding to the overall experience.
Really great experience to be honest. Great food and booze with friends and family. Large resort with lots of acres to snowboard/ski. Quick lifts with not too much of a hassle for lines. Backside of the Mountain especially you will not have to wait long on the lift. Plenty of space on the groomers as well. So many routes to take on this mountain. You will most definitely need more than 2 days to thoroughly comb over the mountain. Live bands also play here while to wait at the base.

We love Purgatory! The staff are family friendly, helpful and informative. The skiing is top notch! The beauty of the mountain is breath taking! If you have the opportunity to come to Purgatory take it! You will become a yearly visitor or in our case a future property owner!
All resort amenities are within walking distance. Once there you don't have to leave unless you want to. The accommodations will not disappoint.

Took the family there for the summer activities. The roller coaster was down and they actually cared enough to give us a partial refund. People were so nice! It was a great tune. If your a Dad be careful you don't go too fast down the alpine slide. Road rash stinks

This place was my second time snowboarding 🏂 It was very intense I do not recommend it for new snowboarders. However if you can make it the view on the lift is amazing. The course was really nice especially the park.

The place is beautiful but when my friend had to go to the ER I had to cancel the tickets as I wasn’t available to use them. When I called the first time they canceled everything over the phone and all was fine. But the second time I called to cancel my personal ticket I got told that isn’t how they cancel or refund tickets??? Then when I told the woman over the phone what was going on she said “Ok I get that but, this isn’t our policy and that isn’t possible.” TERRIBLE workers and people all around the area. 0/10 and would NEVER recommend family or future friends to ever show their faces there.

Great area to ski. Scenery is absolutely amazing and beautiful. Runs were great. Knowing where to pick up your pass and where to go after you park your vehicle should be marked better. Food is way overpriced. 50 dollars for two hamburgers with chips is way overpriced no matter where you are.

I love this place so much. My husband and I went skiing for one day and I was amazed by this beautiful place and lovely people. It was my first time skiing so I got a ski lesson the first day and I was so fortunate to have Mel as my ski instructor. She was so patience and easy to work with. I would fall several times and she would come and help me. I spent half of my day with Mel and it was worth it. She is a big motivator. Keep it up girl. Thank you so much for your help Mel.

We had a great time on the snowmobile tour. Great trail into the forest. Fantastic guide and additional staff. Stopped at several places for pictures and even had a stop at the end where it was wide open and people could “zoom” around. Good equipment, great scenery and even better staff. Highly recommend

As a family, we came here to play today. Adults and kids alike rode the roller coaster and sleds. The rest of us enjoyed the scenery and beers and food. Our only complaint was that the tables could have used some umbrellas for shade. Fast service on hot food. Bathrooms were clean.

We took our grandkids for a day trip alpine slide was the most fun, coaster was a nice addition. Going back this weekend to try out the carts. Pizza at Paradise was excellent!

I booked room which had problems. Management realized and immediately upgraded room for the same amount.
Outstanding people, location, clean... it was pleasure staying on these resorts for a week.
Perfect stay for the family with kids.

Room is a little smaller space than expected (even with only 2 adults and an infant) but worked for what we needed. Our room had a kitchenette and lots of kitchen utensils stocked. Very nice view from our room! Lots of options for food and activities on-site.

We go during the summer for a fun-filled day with the kids. Check out the calendar to go on a "double" day which allows you to go on the Alpine sled and Alpine roller coaster twice. I recommend going in the mornings because of potential afternoon showers. The three-and-a-half-hour window will go by fast so get there early and knock the rides out before doing the rock pan handling and go cart dune buggies. Don't forget to take the lift on the left for a beautiful scenic ride up the mountain.

Fantastic family ski resort with significant terrain options. We are wrapping up our fourth season of skiing/riding Purg as our home mountain and I have no regrets for the decision we made in 2020. In fact, each year gets better.

I've been going to Purg for about 30 yrs. Parking kinda blows if you want to use your car as a hub for lunch etc. Great family mountain. Nice intermediate runs with great rollers that are always a blast for everyone. Some nice bumps off of chair 8. Enjoy!

We had a great trip skiing and snowboarding. For the most part the mountain staff was helpful, and the snow was great. Very expensive, not sure how people can afford ski trips anymore, really appreciate the fact 12 and under ski and board free. Would recommend visiting and shredding the mountain!

We went to Purgatory during the summer to experience the rides and ski town. It turned out that most of their stores were closed and the price to buy ride tickets were $59+ per person. We were expecting to buy tickets for the alpine slide, but we couldn’t buy individual tickets and could only ride one time with the expensive package deal. We ended up leaving after 20 mins. If you want to go to a ski resort during the summer, go somewhere else.

We arrived during the early morning here with no problems. The room is a airbnb. The owner was able to give a lot information about location. We wish she should of list other adventures this condo resort includes. We did the utv's up the mountain and the other activities in this resort. They do open around 9am and close early around 6pm, restaurants around 9pm. We will come back soon!!

Would love to see it ‘in season’!
Had some plumbing and communication issues with the unit (stay’s number of days, checkout time, water pressure, bathroom dry-wall damage) requiring multiple trips back and forth to main lodge.
Boyce was a very nice wedding ‘stage’ and the shuttles to/from Main Lodge was a premium perk; Purgy’s™️ did a nice job with Tuesday night’s festivities!!

Beautiful scenery. Our check-in process was horrible. We waited for an extended period of time with no one at the front desk. They changed the rooms we picked that had a view of the mountains to a room with no view. Then they sent us to a room with people already in it. It finally got straightened out after close to two hours. Not what you want after a long road trip. The room was small but nice.

We stayed in one of the East Rim units, and getting to the lifts couldn't have been easier! We booked early enough to get adult tickets under $50 a day- you can't beat that! Variable pricing is amazing for those that buy early!!! Our party had two that took youth lessons (7-12yo) and two that took adult lessons, and they all enjoyed it. I miss the Relive Your Lesson emails I got last year though!
Possible improvements: Service Lift 3. It stalled many times on our last day, indicating it needs a little TLC.
Add more signs on the mountain so it is easier to find certain runs.
Keep shops open later (Purgatory Sports had doors locked before 5 on a Friday afternoon)

We’ve been coming to Purgatory for years. Our kids learned how to ski on this mountain even though we live at a ski area in NM. Great staff! They are friendly and happy to see you. Lifts and facilities are always well kept.
We return yearly for skiing and enjoying the area. One draw back: spring skiing brings warmer temps and LOTS of mud in the parking lots. Management would do well to spend some money on gravel during this time to minimize the mud mess that’s all over your boots, your vehicle, etc. Also, we always pack lunch instead of eating at Purgys. The food is really overpriced and pretty sub-par. I get it though-tourist trap.
Other than that-we absolutely love Purgatory and will continue to return.

We took a family ski trip to Purgatory for the first time this year. It was recommend to me by a colleague of mine. We were impressed with the whole experience and will be back for more. If staying at the resort everything is extremely accessible and so easy to navigate. What a wonderful experience!

I just went here to ski not stay in a room. I have gone for 2 years now. The slopes are fun with many options. The tree routes for beginners are fun and manageable. The lifts are comfortable. Staff is friendly, food is good.

We really wanted to like this place . Everyone was really friendly from employees to guests. Fairly good sized mountain with decent runs but a lot of flats . We stayed at the Peregrine condos which was excellent. The Village had a decent pretty good Pizza Place but that’s it when it came to restaurants. Purgys needs help in every way and the Village as a whole needs help. All in all we could not recommend as a destination

I didn't stay on site, but the onsite lodging looked humble, maintained, and located nicely to the lifts. It is a skiers' area and not a place with a lot of local entertainment for the non-skier part of your family. We had fresh powder every day I was there. Almost too much powder (Am I allowed to say that?) Great and unique runs across the entire area. Quality lifts that didn't require a whole army of employees to manage them. I was on a chair within just a few minutes each time I arrived at any of them. Mid-February 2024.

I wouldn't recommend this place if you're learning how to ski or snowboard. I don't think it's a great place to learn. The runs aren't insane, but I wouldn't want to teach someone on them.
I wouldn't recommend if you're extremely well off and looking for the Ritz Carlton experience.
If you're an average skier / snowboarder and looking for a low-key mountain that's affordable, not crowded, beautiful, and has great vibes, this is it.

I skied at Purgatory for three days. Willy P local since 1995 and MC P just bought my home hill. Purg is a fun place! Great terrain and well-managed. Would be nice to add some approved RV parking for those of us on a skiing road trip to all the MCP ski hill.

We did the snowcat. Awesome experience. It is private tour. You get to enjoy the view and snow alone with your party. Hot chocolate was served while up in the mountains. They take you to a perfect view. We also bought a snow sled at the toy store and enjoyed the little hill up the stairs. Great place to have some fun.
Pinkerton Hot Springs is a historical and geological site with stunning colors. Visitors can walk right up to the formation and dip their toes in the warm water. However, it's located close to a noisy highway and not suitable for soaking. The hot springs have been moved, allowing RV parking along the highway. It's an interesting roadside attraction with a rich history, despite not being a place for wading or soaking due to its setup as natural runoff springs rather than pools.
This is a neat little hot springs just off the side of the road outside of durango, there was a small pool you could sit in someone had built with rocks. The hot water comes right out of the top of the big colorful rock 🙂 it was very clean and well taken care of too

This is a cool little roadside attraction. I definitely recommend checking it out if your in the area, but don’t drive out of your way for it. I spent roughly 15 mins there, but this was the first time I’ve seen something like it! Wouldn’t recommend swimming in the man-made pool because of runoff from the road and legality of it. Overall it’s a great location to explore. 5/5 ⭐️

What a unique and beautiful natural structure right off the side of the highway. We actually drove right past it and wondered what it was, googled it and turned around to stop and have a closer look! It was under 30° out so you could really see the steam coming up off of the hot springs. There's a plaque with information and it's honestly just a cool experience to stop and see this cool spot. We really enjoyed checking it out!
Heidi Harris — Google review
Awesome little hot springs right off the road. If you are headed there from Durango and using Google maps go about 1000 feet more than it says. It's right off the road and you can't miss it. Maps will tell you to turn right into a neighborhood street that's a dead end.
Darin Reese — Google review
Wow! Lots of history and geology with this place. The colors were amazing and you could walk right up to the formation. The 4-stars because it’s very close to a noisy highway and it was not really a place to soak. I did dip in a toe and found the water to be nice and warm. We visited on a weekday in July and it was not busy. I was surprised to discover this hot springs had been moved, but it did allow us to park our rv right along the hwy! Very nice visit!
Rhonda Gosser — Google review
It's not everyday you see a hot spring located this close to the road. You pull off onto the highway shoulder and there's a small parking area but the spring is literally right there.
There were such great colors from the red rock to cloudy pools of water.
Be very careful because the area around the spring is wet, smooth and slippery.
If you can make an extra 5 minutes on your trip through here, it's worth the effort.
Cody Harris — Google review
Fun roadside attraction for about ten minutes unless you want to take a dip, but this isn't filtrated like some spots and would not recommend. Beautiful "natural" site with some history but very muddy, wear boots.

Pretty neat little road side thing to see. We accidentally went down the wrong road to the old "resort" that's been turned into a boarding house.
Was hoping there was some sort of pool we could wade in but the springs just run off and it was raining when we were there so couldn't really investigate.
Still neat to see though

This is a nice little spot to stop on your way to somewhere else, but I absolutely would not go out of the way for it. This is a free thing to see, and there's a little parking area on the side of the road for it. It's open 24/7 so no need to worry about getting there at a certain time. You can bring your dog here, but be very careful around the springs area - and I would absolutely not let your dog drink the water.
Rachel Brower — Google review
Cool to see. It was muddy to walk around, the water is warm not hot like the Hot Springs in Pagosa. But if you are driving on 550 in the area at stop and take a look.

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a tourist attraction that offers scenic rides and a museum of railroad machinery. The railroad was built in the late 1990s to honor and share personal memories of how railroads shaped the nation. The tracks run through the San Juan National Forest, offering spectacular views to passengers on board. The locomotive used in this route is from the 1880s and has not been changed.
Last time I took this train ride was in around 1994, still the best historic train, in my opinion. If you're not up for a full day consider taking the bus up in the morning have the town to yourself until the trains arrive, and then ride the train home. The last time I rode the steam engine, this time we took the diesel electric. Both are wonderful, the steam engine now converted to oil would be an option for me again. With the coal it used to burn, there was so much soot we would have preferred it inside car way back when, but now an outside car would be perfect.
Mark Spencer — Google review
Really neat place! Small gift shop. Limited seating in the station, so if you require to sit frequently you may need to arrive early.
The train ride itself is very cool and nostalgic as it is a steam engine. Our particular train ride had light snow, but a heavy snow the night before. So the scenery looked absolutely astounding.
They serve refreshments and food. But also encourage you to bring your own. Masks are required however people wearing them may be hit or miss.

We went way out of our way to add this train trip to our itinerary. I paddled the Upper Animas in 2001 and knew how beautiful this trip is. I slept on tickets so we ended up doing the Cascade Canyon trip in a gondola car (the only way to go, IMO). It turned out great! It was amazingly beautiful and I enjoyed our hour long excursion by the river much more than I would have spending three hours in Silverton. YMMV. Conductors were friendly, knowledgeable and very informative. Allow time to visit the museum on-site in Durango. It is packed with cool stuff. Absolutely buy tickets in advance for weekends in the busy season.

Fun train ride, we did the train both directions, I would say only go one direction! And take the bus back. It's 3 1/2 hours each way, beautiful views of the river gorge and river and mountains

Our family had the opportunity to ride the train on the Cascade Canyon Excursion while we were there for Labor Day! All I can say really is WOW!! We had debated if we thought it would be worth the cost when we were planning the trip out to Durango and it definitely was!
We chose the open air gondola and it was super nice. Being able to take in the fresh air was great! We had read elsewhere to pack layers for warmth and we likely overpacked to make sure we didn’t freeze! Having blankets, hats, jackets, and such was great for the first part of the morning.
We were able to see the view from both sides, because the train turns around, which was super nice. The views were incredible!! The stop in Cascade Canyon was very nice as well!
Best suggestion would be to bring lunch! The snack/food car often had long lines which took away from your ability to sit and enjoy! We were glad we’d packed our lunch! The 5 hour train ride was perfect for our family. We had two babies with us and they did great, but we’re definitely done by the end of the day. I would totally recommend this trip to anyone and especially those with kiddos!!

I can't say anything bad about this trip. We booked a seat in the coach car (enclosed) which was probably for the best because it rained at times and we were sitting pretty inside while others on the open air cars were getting soaked. If you have an entire day to devote to this tour, do it.

We took the train from Durango to Silverton and back. What an amazing experience. A must for anyone traveling to Durango.
If I had any complaints is that the stop at Silverton felt a bit short. The two hours there seem to have flown by.
But the views, during the entire ride were beautiful. The train rides alongside the Animas river the entire way, which makes for some picturesque views.
We already can’t wait to do it again.

The bus ride up to Silverton and Steam Train ride back to Durango was absolutely awesome. We got to see the scenery from the road and the train. Amazing staff working there. I enjoyed the experience. This whole experience was worth every penny. I cannot stress how much fun this was. If you are traveling or you are a local you have to go. The scenery is unreal.

Beautiful scenery, great hosts aboard the train, very informative conversations with the tour guides on the train. The price was more than expected but enjoyed the ride. It was fun to be able to ride on a narrow rail road that was old and pretty much original. We reserved on line and did have to wait.

Great family adventure. Friendly staff and splendid sights. We will be back to take the Durango to Silverton trip. Don't forget to visit the museum at the end of the train ride. The model trains in there were really awesome to say the least. The creator payed attention to detail. We bought our tickets online. No waiting in line. We arrived, parked and walked right over to the train.

This is a super cool way to see some of the best views in colorado. The steam engine was really cool. The trip is long but very fun. We had so much fun. The time in Silverton is short but you can see the town and get lunch. You do have an option to ride the bus back which can save time.

Really enjoyed this. It’s a long day to take the train ride up and back in one day. I would recommend taking the train up and staying the night and coming back the next day or taking a bus back instead of train. If you do take it on the way up, sit on the right side train on the way up and left side on the way down if going one way. But the train ride had some amazing views.

I love everything about the NGR. The employees are wonderful on both ends. I recommend a first class car so you have a train host that can point out all of the points of interest to you along the way including photo ops. This time i rode one way in first class and back on coach. Both fun but glad i had the host for the first leg of the trip. scenery is beautiful no matter where you look! I've done this ride 3 times now. once 45 years ago, once 30 years ago and again this week. Its consistent and always a joy. Recommend buying tickets as far in advance as possible.

Our Group rode the Durango-Silverton Railroad from Silverton to Durango. We were scheduled to board between 1:30 and 2 p.m. for the approximately three-and-a-half-hour ride to Durango. We were in an enclosed car with windows that could be raised depending on the weather. There were other types of car available including open air cars with a roof. I would recommend these if the weather were warm and no chance of rain. However, in cooler temperatures the enclosed cars would be your best option. Our Trip from Silverton to Durango was not sold out so we were free to move about the train and enjoy the scenery from other cars. There are snacks and beverages available for an additional charge. Keep in mind that this is a three-and-a-half-hour journey with no stops, other than one brief stop for water if you are travelling on the steam train. The trains’ top speed on the journey is about 22 miles per hour and only averages about 15 miles per hour for the entire journey. There were several small children on the journey that became bored and somewhat unruly. The length of time on the train should be considered when travelling with small children. The scenery along the route is amazing and the conductors and staff very informative about the sights that you are seeing along the way. The only drawback was the loud and unruly children. Other than that, the train ride itself was very nice and the scenery was magnificent.

What a magical experience with the glittery snow falling. We saw a bald eagle perched atop a dead tree and we're delighted there were no children in our car! The Alamosa cart in the Caboose was the best and we got to step out into the back and watch the train tracks go by. Can't wait to go back in the summer to get a new perspective! I wish I could remember the name of our hostess. She was absolutely incredible and a retired geologist with lots of fun facts to share. She also made us a very special mocha beverage that was delicious. The free museum was so delightful and I really enjoyed the Taxidermy as well. Especially getting to see all of the Taxidermy birds that usually never sit still long enough for you to look at them. There is a haunted cart in the museum and I went inside and felt nauseous for an hour after being in there. Very creepy!

Definitely worth doing. Beautiful scenery. The day I went they were still on the winter schedule which only went to Cascade Canyon, but you have great scenery the whole trip. Don't worry about which side of the train to get your seat, they turn the whole train around at the wye at Cascade Canyon. Pack a lunch, you have about an hour to eat at picnic tables, check the train out up close or do a little hiking. The train sounds 4 long whistle bursts 10 minutes before heading back to Durango.

This is a "bucket list" level activity for me and my family. My kids were happy and enjoyed it thoroughly. We did a polar express and cascade canyon trip week after Christmas (first time for the 2 younger ones). My kids smiles and compliments say all I need to hear. My oldest (son) is almost "to cool" to enjoy things like this, but he was very happy and just enjoying our time. My second oldest (my daughter) was happy and enjoyed things I didn't expect her to. The two younger boys were much easier to please, although the attention span is much shorter. This experience is a super reasonable cost for the return. I like to call this type of experience "organic" because nothing is manufactured it's just the same as when people first experienced a train ride 100 years ago. You can go on your first or 100th train ride and still be mesmerized. If in Durango or anywhere else, it's a sure thing.

I have taken this train 4 times in my life and planned my honeymoon to include a ride. We chose fall to see the amazing fall colors from an absolutely incredible vantage point. I simply love this train, the town and entire area. I can not rave enough about what a magical place and experience this train and area are. The bus ride was enjoyable to due to the friendly, funny and informative driver. We had an amazing lunch in Silverton and made some new friends who also were taking the train back. It’s absolutely amazing!!! Just FYI. After our Honeymoon we brought her kids and Parents back at Thanksgiving to see the Polar Express! Highly Highly recommend this train any and all times of the year.

It's fun for the first few minutes, until you realize you're spending half of the trip traveling through town to get to the mountains and back to the station. Some views were pretty, nothing we can't see at places we camp.
Luckily, our car had a good group of people so it wasn't loud, and people were considerate of others unlike the other cars. The seats were OK, got uncomfortable towards the end. The restrooms were pretty clean.
The concession options weren't bad. Pretty standard menu; sodas, coffee, hot chocolate, cider, options for alcohol (beer and cocktails), buttered popcorn, chips, candy, hot dog. Customer service was awful and unorganized.
The stop in Cascade Canyon was exactly like another reviewer said, a random picnic area by the river. Nothing special.
I'm glad we experienced it, but I would never ride again. I couldn't imagine how long and frankly, boring, especially for children, it would be, going the entire way to Silverton and back, and paying that price 🤷🏻♀️ lots of people napping on the way back.

We went on this not knowing what to expect and it was spectacular. Going in the depth of winter, we got up close and personal views of the mountains no one except crazy mountain climbers may ever get to see.
As good as the pics on the website look, they really don't do it justice. Have included a few on here to try and give you a sense of the terrain you are looking for. Best part, you do it in old railroading comfort and style, as fancy as you like it with hot drinks and refreshments available. Would def recommend again
The Durango Downtown Inn is a hotel located in Durango, Colorado with an indoor swimming pool and business center. Rooms have high-speed internet access and coffeemakers.
Our entire stay was great. Prices were reasonable, and every interaction with staff was exceptional. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect. We're local and have stayed here a few times over the years, usually because we just want a night in town, but this time was due to a broken water pump from the last freeze. After explaining the situation (when we called to make a reservation), the manager made every effort to make sure we were taken care of for a couple of days. This was probably our best experience with this hotel, and we'll definitely stay here again-

Very disappointed considering the money you pay for these rooms. They need updating and maintenance badly. Rooms smell very old and musty. Hair dryer sparked and smoked when I tried to use. Plugs were are all old and loose wouldn't hold chargers in the socket. Gross stains on the carpet, no exhaust fan in the bathroom, the light switch for the bathroom had to be held and wiggled to stay on. The AC made a awful mildew smell in the room. We stayed 5 days and had cleaners come in mid week, they didn't changed out sheets and upon getting into bed didn't even make it just threw comforter up. Didn't replenish TP, Coffee, ice bucket liner or soap. When I found one to ask, she was eating her lunch in one of the rooms she was cleaning. This hotel has a great location and nice amenities, it's a shame it could be so nice. The pool could be really nice too, but they have all of the sliders in the room blocked so you can't open them, and the knob for the jets on the spa was broken off. Also, don't be fooled into paying river front view for 70 dollars more, you'll have cars and trees blocking your view. It's not really a river view. Front desk receptionist was very nice.

Stained carpet, bathroom door hits the toilet seat so you have to lift it to open/close the door. When we got back to our room after the Silverton train ride we found the door wasn't closed after the room was serviced. Fortunately nothing was missing. The ice machine on the ground floor wasn't working. We cut our stay short because it was so frustrating. The location is great but not worth staying here again.

Place was decent. Hot tub was great. Pool was way too cold!!! For an indoor pool I felt it should have been heated. Andrew, I believe his name was, was the best at the front counter! Very personable, knew his way around town and gave us great advice. Also got us more coffee for our room. 😘

The room is basic. It's old, no fridge, no microwave, feels damp, tub didn't drain well. That being said, the room was clean and the AC worked. It's super dog friendly as I saw several grassy areas for dogs to go potty and socialize. It's connected to an Applebee's. There a great walking path behind the hotel with views of the river and more grassy areas. Best part of the hotel is its location. Just a few minutes' walk to downtown restaurants, shops, the sky steps, and the Durango train. It was really awesome being so close to downtown and leaving the car in its parking spot the whole weekend.

The location was not worth the poor quality of the rooms or the terrible service from staff. We we’re told that one of our two rooms booked through Bookings.com could not be found in their system. They checked us in using one room from our reservation and then gave us another without telling us that the price would be different from our reservation. The next day we received a bill from booking.com that included a no-show charge, and a charge almost double the price as our reservation for the second room. When we brought this to the front desks attention they just kept saying it was booking.com mistake and they couldn’t do anything. However, they were able to go into their system and find the reservation for the second room a day later. The staff never took any responsibility for not checking their system throughly and we ended up with a bill significantly higher then what we had reserved. And this doesn’t even include how we had to get our room switched because the first one smelt strongly of animal urine! Incompetent and unprofessional front desk staff who have no concept of customer service, plus dingy and urine smelling rooms.
The San Juan National Forest Supervisor's Office is a vast and stunning natural playground located just north of Durango, offering a wide range of outdoor activities year-round. This expansive forest spans over 1.8 million acres and features diverse landscapes including ponderosa pines, snowcapped mountains, and fast-flowing rivers like the Animas River.
Really knowledgeable and friendly staff who will help if you have any questions. Also a good place to go if you're a tourist to get some maps or buy some fun souvenirs.

12/2021 They have a big sign by the highway that says "national forest information". Don't believe it. In my experience most forest service employees are friendly, helpful folks. Not here. The person I spoke with was without a doubt the rudest and most unhelpful person I have spoken with in recent memory. Must have been in a hurry for lunchtime to roll around or maybe she had gas pains, but she clearly didn't have any time or any inclination to help me. This place is not meant for interaction with the public - it seems to be an office for their own business and they obviously don't want to be bothered by pesky citizens and their questions. Don't waste your time, keep your happy disposition, and just drive right on by.

We had better success than some of the other reviewers. Though we had to wait and wait and then wait some more. We we able to get the maps we needed and advice on USFS road conditions. To the lady staff person who helped us: you were so right about the back roads in the Silverton area. We made it through but they were very rough even for our AWD and we managed to cause a brake line to fail! We visited September 20th 2021.

Talked to the nicest woman who gave us maps and tons of information about dispersed sites. Also had cute stuff for our kids. When my sister came into town I sent her here for all her questions.

I didn't blame the forest service when firewood permits couldn't be issued thanks to Trump and company, but now that they're sending chainsaws into wilderness areas, you wonder what the people in charge here are even for. It's a wilderness area for a reason. We have plenty of trees they can go in and cut down in non-wilderness areas and team up with their BLM buddies east of town to drill for oil, leave the wilderness areas alone. Whoever made this decision should be ashamed and move back to Ohio where they can trash nature all they want.

Super helpful! Was able to give us great advice on what roads were open. We come to Durango almost every summer. We always stop by for maps and information.
The US-550 interstate roadway, also referred to as the "Million Dollar Highway," is a scenic route that features a challenging 12-mile segment. This roadway travels through Ouray and extends northward over Red Mountain Pass, which many consider to be an awe-inspiring section of the highway. The stretch of US-550 that passes over this mountainous area is known for its breathtaking views and can be considered one of the most impressive parts of this roadway.
Aztec Ruins National Monument is a prehistoric Puebloan site constructed circa AD 1100, featuring a Great Kiva and interconnected ceremonial structures. The location was connected to Chaco through a southern road. Notably, the Great Kiva has been reconstructed to provide insight into its original appearance. Additionally, several rooms maintain their original roofs intact. Visitors can learn more about the site through the informative museum attached to it.
Fantastic walk through site. Great for kids education and growth. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
Good parking, and parking for RVs and trailers in the back.
Approximately 30 to 45 walking tour outside through amazing ruins. Great display of unearthed artifacts and information. Recommend watching the free short welcome Film in the theater before the walking tour.
All Free, but try donating a little of that colone cancer McDonald's Burger money you suck down to a good cause and help keep places like this open.
We highly recommend this for a visit.

Extremely friendly staff, interacted with 4 members, all helpful and friendly. Nice walking trail with points of interest to learn about the ancient culture. Nice small museum, large ruins, largely original with some minor reconstruction. Several intact rooms, with decorative banding in and the walls intact. Fantastic experience. Good parking and clean restrooms.

After spending 6-weeks at Mesa Verde, and absorbing knowledge it was cool to visit another site with ruins. The way these buildings were built, the time, effort, knowledge is all extraordinary. We enjoyed walking through and reading from the $2 guidebook versus the free audio tour available on your phone. Learning about the ancient ones is always fascinating.

What a gem. One of the most unique national monuments I've been to. So much history. There's a small informative exhibit and a gift store. A lovely picnic area. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Definitely worth a visit/detour.

Definitely a fun place to visit. Free to park and go in. Cute little gift shop, then go outside and have a blast exploring the ruins. Follow the trails and markers. You can even climb inside a few of them and crawl around or bend down to get through the halls. There’s a tall trail up to the top to see the whole view of the ruins. Lots of play areas, great for all ages. It’s a historic site so that’s fun. I had so much fun crawling into dark places to see what’s on the other side. There was lots of people there too but everyone was pretty spread apart and respectful.

Know your history! Our family had an amazing time. Great audio tour, good short movie prior to the tour. My boys enjoyed walking through the almost labyrinth like ruins. Stay on the paved walkways unless you would like to drag mud in your car. They have a shoe cleaner by the door on the way back. ;) Restrooms were clean. Staff was welcoming. Highly recommended family adventure.

This is a must see site. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The site looks big but actually very easy to navigate. There was a choice of a guidebook or cell phone audio app, or you could use a loaned spiral bound guide. Halfway through, a guide came out to give more information and answer questions. He pointed out little factoids that we would not have known like the numbered plugs found on the wood beams. I came away with a much greater appreciation of the ancient Pueblo and their unique way of life.

From all of the ruins we visited we enjoyed this the most. Walking through the rooms really gave you a feel for the living conditions. Very clean, helpful staff, nice gift shop with some high quality items. Museum was informative. No crowds on the Sunday we visited.

Easy to get to and of a manageable scale, these well preserved ruins were a delight. There were hardly any people there when we went, and the park staff was very helpful. To see the original timbers, and to be able to look from room to room is really remarkable

Real nice. Not a steep or long trail to go through the homes of the ancient people of the 4 Corners area. You can go right up and into the ancient homes. The visitor center is nice and informative. If you are interested in history, you will love this. Free admission and free parking. A little guide book is available for $2.

A compact site that's accessible to everyone. There are steps but much can be seen from a paved path. The visitor center is very informative. Don't forget to pack a lunch for the adjoining park that is great for kids and pets (no pets at ruins site, please).

Super cool place where you can learn about the place and people who lived there in the past. A very interesting introduction video is played in the Visitor Center. There’s also a National Park Passport stamp station.
Outside at the ruins, it’s possible to walk around, and even inside and see them up close. There’s also QR codes where you can get more information of the place you’re standing.
Staff very kind and helpful. Restrooms available onsite.

Really great historical place to visit and very thankful for the opportunity to visit. Fascinating and impressive. Visited at a great time, barely and visitors, plenty of time to explore and enjoy the entire monument.

absolutely incredible historical site with a beautiful parks building. the parks building is less than 1000 feet from the ruins which is great for anyone looking to visit ruins without the long hike out to them. this site holds a restored kiva which truly sparks the imagination: it must have been incredible to see when communities gathered there. hand-constructed before stone tools, chacoan structure of significant beauty and importance: please respect it as a sacred site if you visit (and be sure to check the audio!)

It was very impressive to see what this culture was able to construct so long ago. The fact that a majority of the construction is still standing is a testament to this. We were able to walk through a majority of the ruins, which was really informative.

Great historical site. I was downplaying this site because of the major national sites that are nearby. However, this easy access national monument offers just as much insight into the region only in a thimble full.

This NPS site does not charge an entry fee. However, I recommend strongly purchasing a guide for the nominal cost of $2, such that you know what the structures are (they are labeled with numbers). The visitor centre also serves as a small but nicely done museum telling the history of the site and the Pueblo people. Although there is no unequivocal evidence, it is speculated that the thriving Aztec community, which took a century from design to completion, was abandoned due to the combination of social instability, drought and exhaustion of resources. We spent the whole morning exploring the site, and the most amazing of which is the reconstructed great kiva (the largest kiva on this site). The Pueblo people are probably the most religious population ever existed.
Ranch resort with free meals & activities like horseback riding & mountain biking with on-site spa.
My fiancé and I had the privilege of spending some time at the Majestic during the summer of 2021. We can't say enough about our time there. Thick cut bacon and coffee by the morning fire, long trails laden with babbling creeks, and bottomless cookie jars are just a few things that make this place special. The property is beautiful, the animals are healthy and well-cared for, the owners are kind and involved in all aspects of the ranch, and the team is second to none. A huge, huge shout-out to the people that make the Majestic so special. We dream of returning one day.

My family visited in 2019 in it was by far one of the best family vacations we ever planned. I have two boys, they were 9 and 13 at our visit and they still rate this experience over any theme park we ever visited. This place is “overnight camp” for the entire family and everyone can find something they enjoy. From the breakfast bell in the morning, to our tired heads hitting the pillows at night, we had memories EVERYDAY! Some days were family activities, some days were “everyone did their own thing”. White Water Rafting, Mesa Verde, Horseback riding the trails, fishing, canoeing, electric bikes, archery, shooting, swimming, relaxing, line dancing, wine tasting, movies under the stars, electric “bull” riding, human foosball, family kickball, duck races, bonfires, the memories are endless. The counselors are more than willing to help with little kids, to make sure Mom/Dad get to do what they want too… Teens find other teens to hang with. The food was amazing, and even accommodated a couple very picky people in my family. Not one person on this ranch wouldn’t do anything to make your stay better. I would highly, HIGHLY, recommend this Majestic Dude Ranch, you will NOT be disappointed.

Time of my life there, all inclusive (except for gift shop), prob had 2-3 cokes a day and they didn’t charge any extra, and you build real connections, not connections at normal resorts where you say hi to someone then mind your own business and they leave the next day and you never see them, all 100 or so people arrive and leave the same day, all staff are incredibly kind and flexible, when I was on a nature bike ride (turns out it’s been a long time since I had ridden a bike) one of the staff members on the hike was willing to help me get back to camp safely, they go to great heights to make you happy, when I was there a little girl lost her doll at the local airport flying in and the ranch owner went there and search everywhere until he found it and brought it back to her, delicious, hand cooked food, stunning nearby hikes, amazing activities that create lifelong memories, I will never forget when my family all went atv-ing together, and we had a lakeside picnic, will definitely be returning. Would 100% recommend

My family and I had a wonderful time at Majestic Dude Ranch! The owner, Robert, was very hands-on and made sure that every guest had a great experience. Christian, the GM, also went out of his way to do the same. I saw Robert making omelets for each individual guest early in the mornings, grilling filet mignon and lamb to the perfect temperature, and answering my texts to accommodate my requests. Great customer service and between Robert, Christian, and the rest of the large team they have, you cannot leave disappointed.

My family and I had the privilege of staying at the Majestic Dude Ranch, Memorial Day weekend of '22. If we could give more stars we would. 5 stars is just not enough to give for the attention to detail Majestic provides.
We were able to bring my Mother-in-Law, Dad, and Stepmom to celebrate so many things with us. We were so impressed with the owner and the staff at Majestic Dude Ranch (MDR). Everyone is friendly, courteous, has a sense of humor, and most importantly, has safety for the guests as their number one priority. Our group had the oldest guests on the ranch that week and we are happy to say that the staff at Majestic Dude Ranch were very accommodating.
The Wranglers were just wonderful! They were a lot of fun, and always had the guests safety as priority. It is wonderful to see that the staff is part of the family at MDR. Robert, the owner, said during our orientation briefing "leave as family", and he is 100% right! For a group of introverts this trip took us all waaay outside of our comfort zone, and completely worth it. It gave us a different kind of confidence, whether with socialization, being around large groups of people, or horses. This experience was truly the trip of a lifetime for all of us and we are so grateful to have spent the time at the MDR. We are already planning our next trip.

We had the best vacation ever here!!! I went four years in a row as a child back when it was called Lake Mancos Ranch and begged my husband to go with me 18 years later. He was wrongly convinced we were going to have to hunt around for things to do in the area because he thought he would get bored but we had things to do the entire time we were there. We were so busy that we couldn't do some of the evening activities because we were too tired! There is something to do for everyone at all times. The food and desserts are amazing and you need loose pants because you will be eating!!! The rooms were also super clean which is really important to me. Everyone is extremely nice and you can really tell they have a passion for the ranch! You won't pay for ANYTHING while you are there unless you want to go to the gift shop. It's more all inclusive that any all inclusive vacation I've ever been on.
All of our expectations were infinitely exceeded and I was so excited to do things I didn't get to do as a kid like run around in the ring just for fun and brush down Cactus after trail rides! I cried when we left because I didn't want to leave. Most of the people in the photos with me in their old guest albums have since passed so it meant the world to me to have such an amazing time for my 5th visit (and first as an adult). I can't wait to come back!

All of their staff including the owners Robert and Jamie are so personable and hands-on. Veteran museum dedicated to local Native American cultures featuring artifacts & 2 archeology sites.
The visitor center museum was well worth the stop. Very educational and informative. We came here with three young kids (9, 5 & 4) and spent a couple hours exploring the museum. The rangers were very kind and knowledgeable. They gave the kids child friendly maps and scavenger hunt materials to earn a token at the end of their exploring. This kept the kids behaved and engaged. There are tons of ancient artifacts of the Anasazi Native Americans and a couple short films explaining the history. We had a great experience and definitely recommend. (*Note: If you have a 4th grader, this museum is part of the National Park free admission program; *Note: The visitor center/museum is closed on Sunday & Monday).

Amazing to think how many people lived in this area before European settlers headed this way. We only did a few miles at the very beginning, but to see houses and structures over a thousand years old was pretty cool. Also at the visitor center is the museum, and I have to say this is one of the most informative displays I have ever seen at a welcome center. I learned so much in the 15 minutes it took me to look around that it was incredible.

This is probably the most comprehensive collection of Native American history I have ever seen in one place. It's beautiful. It's not huge but the pieces and the exhibits they have are very well done. If you're even slightly interested in history like this I 100% recommend checking this out. There is also a .5 mile walk you can do that leads to some Indian ruins. It's very cool with wonderful views.

This is a great place to start your exploration of the Southwest Colorado archaeological sites. There is a small museum inside with a very large concentration of information and artifacts on the ancient puebloan cultures and way of and way of life in this region. There are also care centers that show the work and research done in this field with identification and excavation and preservation of other sites. You could spend hours here and really leave with a great understanding of much of the work that's being done in this region to better understand the early inhabitants. It's also a great way to get a better sense of what you're looking at as you head out around the region to look at other sites. Is it cost to visit the museum portion of the facility but if you have a national parks pass that covers the cost. The facility is nicely kept beautifully designed and there's also a small gift shop and restrooms along with a good offering of books maps and other resources for your adventure and exploration around the region.
There's a short half mile walk that is fully paved from The visitor center up to a site that sits atop the hill. It's easy to access and a beautiful sight and gives you an amazing view over the reservoir and the valley.

The staff here were all so friendly and helpful! We stopped by while on a road trip with two small children under 6 and the staff pointed out age-appropriate activities for them (scavenger hunt, microscopes, discovery drawers, a short film). It was better than I expected for little kids. The temporary art exhibit was lovely as well!

Wish we would have had more time to explore! We could have spent hours in the museum alone but wanted to hike and check out the ruins on the hill above. Lucky enough to be there on a free day so no cost at all. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Beautiful view from the top with informational signs on the trail.

The site is AMAZING! It really wasn't on my radar. I think it is because it is managed by BLM. They stink at getting historical sites advertised. I'm not really sure why the National Parks and Bureau of Land Management are separate. The visitor center is closed on Sunday and Monday, which is ridiculous since most people are off on Sat and Sun.
The plus for BLM is that even though they were closed, the grounds were open. It was a nice hike up and the view itself was amazing. But the ruins were wow!

One of the best visitor centers we've been to. Beautiful facility with large number of interesting artifacts on display. Wonderful staff! Extensive 1200s cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde NP, with adventurous guided tours offered seasonally.
This was definitely a fun tour, don't let what you read scare your... there are some areas where the height might be an issue but the ladders are stable and don't move, wobble or shake,...the tunnel isn't as daunting as it is made to sound, there were people of all sizes on our tour and nobody got stuck. I would recommend it at least once... very small children could make it a bit harder, so I might recommend against that, but if the parent can get them in or out physically.... All the power to them.
Richard Saalfeld — Google review
very wow. This was my favorite tour. The kids were a little worried by the tall ladder climbs. I was a little worried about the tight squeezes. Afterward, everyone thought it was really cool.

Such a fun tour. The first and tallest ladder was more disconcerting than I thought it would be when I got half way up, but it’s very sturdy and everyone in the group was able to make it up. Loved crawling through the tunnel too. Great tour guide, beautifully preserved ancient buildings, and just a really cool experience.

It’s so unfortunate that you can’t at the very least spot the archaeological site from a view deck / overlook. To see the site you need to buy your tickets in advance, and not at the site itself. If you really want to see this site, book and print your tickets in advance. Great canyon views however and easy parking. If you want to see an even bigger site for free, nearby cliff palace has a free view deck.
Costa Constanti — Google review
It's really neat to experience the Pueblo dwellings up close. If you have fear of heights, you might consider passing on this because of a 20 - and 30-foot ladder climb. Safe but nervy if u have fear of heights. Even with my fear of heights, I would do it once but not again. Also, you can drive stood the area and see dwellings without taking this tour, so it's still worth the trip.
If planning a trip near here, make sure you visit Monument Valley and definitely take a private Navajo jeep tour. The private tour at Monument Valley was the best experience during my two weeks traveling the west. The tours are relatively inexpensive and take you onto private priperty to see sacred locations you won't see on the park service loop.

An amazing tour. The ranger will say this is strenuous hike but it was not bad. I have some claustrophobic feelings in tight spaces and you do have to crawl through a small space but I had no issues with it. It is ten feet long but goes by so fast. If you have a chance go on this tour!!
Robert Ziebol — Google review
Balcony house was 100% my favorite of the tours offered. Get to come closer to the house and learn all about the people who once lived here, how the dwelling was created, the age of the dwelling, and some history behind the balcony house.
This tour I would not recommend for small children due to the climbing, height, needing to take extra caution throughout the tour.
Would also not recommend if you are scared of heights. We also had someone in our group decide to not do the tour due to bad knees as this tour you need to crawl on your knees.
Tickets to the tour gets released 2 weeks in advance.

Fantastic!!! Incredible place to visit and our tour guides (Ranger Dave and Volunteer Mike) did a great job. Really enjoyed it. The NPS description makes it sound difficult but it really was was not difficult and was a great time.
You have to be amazed at what people could accomplish a thousand plus years ago without any modern tools and getting the building materials up the side of a cliff. Amazing.

Very cool guided tour. Just too bad there isnt much shade for us pale folk! Some stone steps, ladders to climb, a narrow tunnel to crawl through. Very glad we went early ao it wasnt as hot.
The Cliff Palace is a remarkable archaeological site constructed by the Ancestral Puebloans between 1190 and 1260. Visitors can only view the palace through a ranger-led tour that follows the path taken by these ancient people. The tour involves climbing down a stairway and four ladders to reach the palace, which comprises of 217 rooms and 23 kivas. This impressive engineering feat once provided shelter for approximately 250 to 300 individuals.
The Cliff Palace road was closed when I visited, but you can still get a pretty good vantage point of the site from the Sun Point viewpoint. Just mind blowing to think this was built so long ago with such primitive tools. A testament to the people who built it.

Phenomenal indigenous cave dwelling inside Mesa Verde National Park. Must be on a ranger lead tour to visit up close. Can view from a distance on Mesa Loop drive. Only about quarter mile. But very steep hike with several ladders. Site itself is an amazing feat of architecture. Ranger presentation was great. Highly recommended.

At the time of our visit there were no guided tours available for any of the below cliff ancient dwellings. All of the canyon rim drives were open and the cliff top ruins were available for self guided tours. This was the first visit for my wife and it had been years since I had visited and we enjoyed every stop and every view. Looking back into our regional history is quite humbling.

Great example of Cliff Dwellings on top of a really cool National Park. Make sure to take the "Cliff Palace" tour or you won't get the up close experience. The guides also provide interesting info along the way. It is really a place not to be missed.
Do some research to make sure you can climb the steps and ladders that are required. Some steps are small and cut into the rock face with some narrow passageways. All 30+ in our group made it OK, with just a few of the elderly/out of shape people struggling a bit. Wear good sneakers/hiking shoes and bring water!
We stayed at the Far View Lodge nearby inside the park, which was really convenient. A side note is the restaurant/bar at the lodge was just OK, but also convenient with nice views outside on the deck. This is not a fine dining spot.

Stunning archeological reconstruction and beautiful wilderness. The park is best viewed by a combination of driving and hiking. As of the time of this review not all services are open due to covid. Check with the rangers upon arrival to be up to date on what trails are available.

Imagine an archaeological site in an impossible gravity-defying location. Unbelievable! And in such great condition. We took the $10 pre-booked tour down the cliff face via narrow stairs and passages to see the site up close. The view from the overlook / view deck is good enough however, so if you forgot to buy tickets, all is not lost. Highly recommend a visit to this unique and impressive site. Don’t miss it!

Absolutely amazing visit. We didn't get to do the tour but would still recommend 100%. This was a park I considered leaving off if we didn't have time but ended up being one of our favorite stops. Please save an hour for the museum too it's work spending a whole day in this park.

This was a wonderful experience. It was truly breathtaking to see how people lived like this, and the skills that they exhibited. We would highly recommend this as a must do on your list if you happen to be going through this area.

The stop of the park. Such an amazing view! When we came early fall, it was closed for the season, but was open this visit. Amazing to see the palace up close and appreciate all the work and time was put into the cliff palace.
The tour might be challenging for smaller children so something to consider if doing the tour. You can still see it from above for free and 100% worth the visit.

We visited Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park in late August 2023. What a great experience! You just can't know the scale of the buildings until you're right next to them. You can't go into any of the buildings but that doesn't detract from the experience at all. A definite must if you are in the park. You can't beat the deal for $8 per person. Highly recommended.

Mesa Verde is amazing and I can't believe I've never been before this trip. While anyone can visit any time, free with a National Park Pass or a small fee for everyone else, get a reservation for one of the three tours. Unlike days of ols where folks would crowd into the major attractions, guided groups are well spaced out to that you can experience the amazing cliff palace free of crowds. Spacing between crowds provide opportunities to photograph the area without people! The rangers are very knowledgeable and provided great information. While there is some climbing, I would not characterize the hike as strenuous.

Cliff Palace Loop, Mesa Verde National Park, CO 81330, USA
Ruins of multi-room dwelling built into stone cliffs by ancient Pueblo people; closed until 2019.
Make sure you thoroughly research any national parks you're going to before taking to Google maps to post negative reviews because you can't bother to see on the NPS website that this location has been closed indefinitely for 7 years due to safety concerns.
Even from a distance, this is still pretty spectacular to see. There's a pretty great overlook just behind the museum and offices - it's a little steep, but it is paved, and only a few hundred feet from the road. We were hiking the Petroglyph Point Trail and thought maybe there'd be a better vantage point down in the canyon, but (at least in July) the trees are almost too dense to see anything especially well.

Impressive cliff houses adjacent to a walking trail. Unfortunately the trail was closed due to rockslides, but there were still great views from further up the hill

This is my favorite cliff dwelling to date. Truly a stunning site. There is no access to the dwelling right now. But we are told it will be open in the near future.

Do the guided tour! You get to walk down to the ruins, and hear so much of the story of the lives of the people who lived there. So much knowledge, and facts you don't get on your own. The bus takes you there and back, and it's worth a day or half day of exploring!!

Bummer this is closed. Ran into a ranger and it seemed it would be closed for a long time as there is a crack in the roof they have to repair and it won’t be easy to fix. Still neat to see it from the overlook.

Must buy a tour ticket to see it up-close-and-personal but you can still view it from the lookouts and also from a telescope that they have for free.

I enjoyed watch a sudden thunderstorm over the Spruce Tree House, there were two instant waterfalls next to the Spruce Tree House and right over it. You instantly realized why the ancient natives selected this place for dwelling, maybe easy access to rain falls and water collection? I even caught a lightning on my video, it was awesome! Cheers!

Spruce Tree house is a great stop right behind the museum. Can look from a distance, but can no longer get close to the building due to safety reasons.
Worth stopping and looking if you’re already at the museum. Just remember to go behind the museum to see it.

Closed until 2019 due to efforts to the NPS's efforts to stabilize and protect this treasure, but it was open when I last went and it was wonderful, and had the added bonus of being the largest major ruin you could visit on a self-guided tour. Currently, there is a good view of the ruins you can access. Don't miss it.

Just like all the sites in the park, the ruins are amazing to see. The way everything sits in the alcove of the cliff makes for stunning views. Easy to see form the visitors center.

The cliff dwellings are very unique and worth the 20 mile drive up from the entrance - that’s 5 stars but very disappointed in the National Park Service - visited on 7/2/21 and it seemed like they were using the COVID scare to do as little as possible rather than trying to figure out how to provide as best an experience as possible with the stupid restrictions that are still in place. The entrance was staffed to collect the $ but we only saw one other park ranger after that. Bathrooms were open but everything else CLOSED: visitor center exhibits, Spruce Tree House museum, trail to Spruce houses, guided hikes, restaurant and other facilities. They didn’t even have the flag flying. No ranger around at Spruce Tree house to offer to explain anything or tell what is open or closed; offer suggestions what one could still see.

Amazing structure you can see only from distance. In 2006 we were able to go down there
Archeological site on 176,000 acres with villages & shrines of Native American cultures & a museum.
If there were 10 stars to rate this incredible place/ experience, I would not hesitate! To walk the same place where the ancients walked;:you can almost feel them. I've been here several times and am excited to return each time we go. The drive in is like being in an old painting....cliffs, caves, canyons, colors! Be prepared for hot days with lots of water, a hat, and sunscreen. If you bring your dog, keep in mind the rocks get extremely HOT on the paws!!!

Free range less restricted more adventurous feeling than your average monument park. We hike the painted hand trail to the tower and petroglyphs. It was a very easy hike to the "view point". From there it's down a slightly challenging bluff for the kids. Overall great experience.

We spent a day at COTA. Our first stop was a check-in at the Visitor Center in Delores which was excellent. One of the staff introduced us to the Monument, asked us how we wanted to spend our time, and proceeded to point out numerous options for our visit. His guidance was helpful since the Monument is huge and moving around it time consuming and challenging. We visited Lowry and Sand Canyon Pueblos, and tried (but failed) to get down the unimproved road to Painted Hand Pueblo, but we still enjoyed the adventure. We did venture down an unimproved road that took us to a fabulous canyon overlook and had ourselves lunch right there. It was perfect in every way! Special Note: If you find any pottery shards please leave them for future visitors to enjoy. “Take only photos, leave only footprints” applies here.

An amazing and beautiful expanse. My wife and I were RVing across the county and chose Canyons of the Ancients for a hike with our dog.
We enjoyed a moderate to strenuous hike with beauty and amazement all around.
Take your digital camera and just start clicking...... You CAN'T take a bad picture lol!!!!! ☺️
There are trails and walking, running, biking are available on the trails.
Spectacular views from every part of the park.
We highly recommend you visit.

Love these trails. Up high on the Mesa, mountain or around it, it is beautiful. Dog friendly, be sure to bring lots and lots of water! Ruins are pretty awesome. No bathrooms so bring a small shovel. Paths are marked pretty clear. Views or "spur" trails has fun surprises.

I only paid a brief visit in March 2022, having spent more time at nearby Mesa Verde, but look forward to returning for more time in this unusual place. Its literature states that "thousands of archaeological sites have been recorded in the monument, and thousands more await documentation and study." Looks like an explorer's & hiker's paradise.

This is BLM land and free to use for the public. If you enjoy being outside and hiking or mountain biking this is a great place to stop. Beautiful canyons and mesas. Some cliffs dwellings along the hiking trails, and a great mix of both short and easy and long and strenuous hikes.
Hovenweep National Monument is dedicated to preserving six prehistoric Puebloan villages that were built between A.D. 1200 and 1300 on canyon rims. The Ancestral Puebloans utilized flat land farming in the areas surrounding Cortez, CO, in addition to cliff dwellings. The Hovenweep towers remain a mystery as their exact purpose is unknown but serve as a memorial to a past civilization.
I wish I could've stayed here longer to do the entire 4 miles loop because the trail to the castle is so beautiful! I saw all kinds of birds, rodents, and lizards. I was here in spring and went for a morning hike and it was pleasant but I could see it being hot when the sun is at full capacity. Remember you are in the desert! Bring plenty of water!

Nice place. Paved roads all the way with clear signage to get you there. Concrete path to the first overlook is wheelchair safe. After that the 2 mile loop walk along the canyon rim is easy with most on bedrock then a short trip into the canyon and back up the other side is fun with narrow spots to keep your interest. Trail is marked well with signs and the free map explains it all well.
Beautiful ruins all over in easy and close view.

They had a great little visitor center.
Lots of walkable trails spread throughout the park.
A little off the beaten path. Which is part of the draw and allure of the place. We enjoyed the drive in and out as there is soo much to see. Roads were good. The views awesome.
Adam Vengroff — Google review
The Ancestral Puebloans did not always build cliff dwellings. The areas around Cortez, CO are evidence of the large amount of flat land farming done by the Ancients in this region. The exact purpose of towers at Hovenweep is unknown. They stand as a memorial to a past civilization.

It’s a nice place to visit. We ended up here because the Mesa Verde roads were closed due to snow.
Since it rained the day before, it was recommend to not complete the whole loop due to possible mud. The trail itself was not difficult at all and not very muddy.

Incredible site with a large number of differenly-shaped ruins perched on and around the rim of a horseshoe canyon. Beautifully photogenic.

Totally worth the visit. Out of the way but awesome. There is a not too hard of a hike starting right at the visitors center. Two miles. Great views. There are other trails that are more remote. Gets very sunny and hot so prepare for that and bring a lot of water. Definitely go there if you have the time and the Lowry House.
Maryna Goodman — Google review
You can enter with a national parks pass. It’s not a very crowded place. I arrived after the visitors center was closed but there is a visitors center with a gift shop. The trails are well-marked and there is an fairly easy 2 mile hike but it involves going down steep stairs/steps through.
Bethany Crisp — Google review
Well worth the journey to get here. Helpful visitor centre, easy paved route to the overview. A well laid out trail around the site, a helpful trail guide brings the towers to life. The trail is easy although often over large rocks. Towards the end it descends steeply into the canyon and then steep uphill to the end of the trail.
Catherine Shawarby — Google review
Off the beaten path and totally worth the trip. Very few tourists but an amazing visitor center with friendly rangers. The two mile walking path is well maintained and goes near all the ruins. I considered it moderately difficult due to the part that goes into the valley. You could do an out and back to avoid that section and still see everything.

Didn't know what to expect after spending yesterday at Mesa Verde. Quite the drive to get to Hovenweep, but it was well worth it. Did the 2 mile loop hike from the visitor center and thoroughly enjoyed the hike and the visitor center. A very nice day trip.
Mark Coleman — Google review
Hovenweep is a great but out of the way place to view prehistoric dwellings from about 800 years ago. A relatively flat loop trail takes you around a small ravine with remains of numerous buildings. The visitor center was closed when we visited on a Tuesday and it seems that the days it is open varies. The restrooms were open and they were nice with flush toilets and sinks with soap and water. Brochures and trail maps were available to guide your walk.
Bob Johnson — Google review
Good for a day trip or for very lightly visited overnight backpacking trails to other Native American sites in the area. The loop can be done by almost anyone. I would avoid the section that goes into the canyon for anyone who has trouble with up and down. You can go around it.
One of the best National Monument Visitor Centers/ Campsites I’ve been to. There are places to tent camp and for RV’s. I don’t think there are RV hookups. Bathroom is super clean. No showers. Drinking water at the campground but there’s a 5 gallon limit.
Rolled in on at 7pm Saturday night in late May and there were multiple campsites open. Campsites have a beautiful canopy, fire pit, sandy area for tents, and views of the mountains.
Rangers were super nice. Didn’t pay for my campsite because I didn’t have cash and they helped me pay inside the visitor center.

A little gem of a park in the middle of nowhere Utah. A fantastic walking trail around and through a small canyon full of unique tower structures. Dogs are welcome on the trails. Nice little visitor center with shaded picnic areas. The Campground has awesome panoramic views of Sleeping Ute mountain. Sunsets are awesome! Flush toilets and some pull through sites.
be disappointed.
The Four Corners Monument, located at the southeastern tip of Utah on Navajo Nation land, is a historical landmark where guests can stand in four states at once. Visitors can pay $5 per person for admission to take photos and experience this unique feature. Though there may be craft vendors available, it is recommended to arrive early to avoid any crowds and long lines. This attraction presents an opportunity for travelers interested in crossing off items from their USA bucket list while exploring the beauty of the American Southwest.
It's a little out there, but it was a great stop on our road trip. We went early day it was easy to get some pictures without other people in them. The shops along the outer part of the moment were great to look at and talk to the vendors. It is kid friendly and a great place to bring your family.

This is a great monument to discover where four states come together! Each placard displays information on how each state got their shape! Many vendors are on site with plenty of local jewelry and souvenirs for purchase. The area is isolated but on the Colorado side they do have a little food trailer selling Indian tacos. FYI dogs are welcome in the parking lot but cannot go into the monument area. Entry is $8 per person.

Really fun! Love the thought of being in 4 states at once! I also enjoyed speaking with some of the vendors, especially Elsie and Elberta. They each were patient and explained the meaning behind the items they created. I learned a little bit about The Rainbow Dancers... I had a Navajo Taco and Indian Fry Bread from some great gals, too. Yep, a really neat little place....
Bernie Frisch — Google review
One of a kind place to visit mainly because you can be sitting on four states all at once.
There are a lot of nice Navajo vendors who offers native crafts like bracelets, chokers, tomahawks, hair ornaments, shirts, etc. These items are really well made and beautiful. Be ready because even though they are priced appropriately, the amount adds up specially if you are going to buy souvenirs for friends, family and for yourself.
If im not mistaken, there is a small store that also sells food like navajo tacos but when we went there, maybe because of the pandemic, the store didn't open.
The only thing is, the drive is very long and there are no other places near by to go to.
?b?l?ne HNrs — Google review
About 45 minutes from the closest town, but worth the trip if you're in the area. All around the monument are vendors selling their wares (similar to a county fair) but not overwhelming or detrimental to the monument itself.
We arrived when fewer people were there and were able to get some photos without having to wait too long. If you're just arriving, and there is a crowd, please be considerate that others who are just standing there may be waiting to take a photo (some people just walk up with little to no awareness of what is going on).
Joe Payne — Google review
It's a cool place to see but not something I'd care to visit again. It's really just a photo opportunity aimed more for adults who understand the idea, with vendors that have mostly hand maid items for sale. There was a taco stand but we didn't purchase any food.
It was nice to see some authentic Indian art and jewelry, but that was probably the most exciting part. They accept cards, but I would recommend bringing cash as some booths haggle, and they are more inclined to do a deal if you have cash.
All in all, it's an ok place but for $8 per person for what you get... I probably won't be back

Took a last minute road trip and this happened to be our final destination before returning home... let's point out first, just before you reach this place how amazing is the scene surrounding the drive?! We need to quit taking for granted how beautiful our world we live in can be! Then... Pretty cool to be in 4 states at one time! Especially since I feel like I'm never in one place all together at one time 😄 It was surprisingly not crowded like anywhere where else. If you are hungry or thirsty they have drinks and snack vendors. Set up around the seal, vendors are there with incredible art full of bright colors, hand-made jewelry, and knives made out of bone and antlers. Fur babies are sadly not allowed out of the parking lot

I had sooo much fun. There are multiple hiking/walking trails. The owners of the booths explained things to us. I liked the fact they were not extra pushy about buying their items, so that made me buy lots!! Everyone was very nice and welcoming. I arrived roughly an hour after it opened, so no line getting in, no line for pictures and no crowd. However, by the time we left, it was packed. There was also a line of cars waiting to get in😳. I really enjoyed my time here. Very peaceful!

Interesting to be there. Trails to walk. Most just pay their $8/person, take photos and go. There are picnic tables further out. Around the outside of the central monument there are sellers of goods. Beyond that there are a few food trucks. None had coffee. Pit toilets. An interesting historical stop.

You do have to pay $5 per person for a quick visit. But it check it off the bucket list is worth it. We arrived just after 9am in Jan and we're the only ones there. Several others showed up but not busy. No food vendors were open that early and a few craft vendors were setting up. So go early and no line to take pictures.

Great place to be 4 places in one place. I loved walking across four states in mere seconds. This costs $8 per person (not vehicle) but I would say it’s worth it. The winter looks to be the off-season which was nice. There were about 30 people, but it wasn’t as crazy as the summers would be. There are little stalls where people sell items. Sadly the food was not available, but still a fun experience nevertheless.

This has been on my bucket list since I was a kid. Glad I came but it wasn’t a big whoop but it’s cool.
It’s a do it once in your life time and that’s enough.
The entrance fee for 8 dollars per person in your vehicle I thought was pretty steep but it’s works.
When you get into the park, find a parking spot for your vehicle and get in line to take photos. The line may very depending on what time of day.
It was interesting because when you get to the monument and get ready for pictures you can only take three pictures at the monument and move on.
That was really odd for me considering the wait in line just to take a picture @ the four corners.
It would be cool if it were 3 minutes to take pictures instead of limiting photos to only 3.
There are booths the monument area where you can purchase gifts, they accept card and cash, so be prepared to spend money.
You can purchase food @ booths surrounding the area as well.
It was a cool experience, checked off my list, I visited once and that’s enough.

We travelled from Arlington TX all the way to the Four Corner Monument. This is on my bucket list for years. I was so glad we made it. The weather was nice today. It was cloudy. The temperature was pleasant with a soothing breeze.
After taking the history-making photos, we walked all four corner states in just minutes.

Four Corners Monument is a place to visit once but really not much there for the cost per person instead of a vehicle to visit. There are small shops on the perimeter in sections of the building. There is a small shaded sitting area and a line to take a picture at the four corner marker. There is at least one food vendor as well. Parking is OK and the gravel is rough so drive carefully. Overall an OK place to visit especially if in the area.

I had a wonderful experience visiting the Four Corners Monument in mid-November. Despite the rain and chilly weather upon my arrival, the overall experience was fantastic. Arriving just two minutes before opening at 7:58 am, I had the advantage of avoiding long lines, which gradually formed over the next hour and a half.
I highly recommend getting there early, as the site can fill up quickly. During my visit, people from all over the country gathered to capture pictures at the unique intersection of four states. I approached from the Arizona side, but it was evident that visitors came from various directions to partake in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The scenery was breathtaking, and the Four Corners Monument is truly a beautiful location. It’s worth noting that there is an admission fee of eight dollars per person, administered by the Navajo Nation. This fee supports the maintenance of the site, ensuring a well-preserved and enjoyable visit. Overall, if you have the chance, I highly recommend taking the time to explore this iconic landmark. Oh, and they only accept credit cards or debit cards. Do not take cash

One of those must see places just to say you've been there and stood at the intersection of 4 states. We've been nearby several times and finally we're able to stop here. It's on tribal lands and currently costs $8 each to enter. You can take pictures at the marker although if it were really busy you might have to wait a while. There are native Americans selling items in booths surrounding the monument. There are also several hiking trails. Worth the stop just to say you've done it.

Wonderful to see. Wish we had more time. We arrived around 415pm, they were closing early for some reason, but are only open til 445 regularly. We were traveling thru from west coast to east coast, so had to go when we could. If you can come early on days when they have vendors, I am sure it's a great experience. Enjoyed it nonetheless.

LONG drive for a short visit. Not a whole lot to do or see. The monument is clean and well maintained. The vendor booths were mostly empty, and those that were occupied were lots of the same items, just from different people. The vendors weren't friendly or talkative, most of them just sat in their car until someone acted interested in buying something. Definitely a one time visit only sort of place unless you're a local.

Went here in the winter and there was literally no one here and I had the whole place to myself. Now I can say to everyone I stood in four U.S. states Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah at the same time! To enter there is a small fee and the monument is on Navajo land so no national park passes are accepted. Other than that, this was a pretty cool place to stop by as part of my Arizona trip.

Pretty cool to experience. The site rests in Navajo Nation therefore there is a pay per view station set up (credit card only) with an $8 fee per person to enter. There is a nice facility with vendors and a platform with the four corners mapped out and an area with the four corners to stand above and take pictures. Very cool and worthwhile. Ps I’m told (by a worker) that before the new facility was built the original marker was 150 yards off! 😉

This is on the smaller side for National Monuments, but worth the visit. This is on Navajo Nation land, and there is a bit of a drive without ammenities to reach the site so plan accordingly. No electricity on site, and the Monument only takes cash. There is an ATM 5 miles down the road. Tickets are $8.00 per person. There are open air vendors and food booths surrounding the site, some seating, shade and free parking. Expect to wait in line to take pictures - it wasn't too busy when we visited at the end of December, and the weather was fairly moderate. Busier in the spring and summer months.

Tourist trap / Money grab.... It's a shame that they outsourced the management of such an awkward but unique place to (what I have to deduct by the simple things you notice when you visit) a bunch of incompetent fools. They are only there to collect 8 bucks a head and for that you get no explanation, no guides, no decent parking lot, no working washrooms... No nothing. Moreover you are only allowed 3 pictures !!! What a bunch of crooks !!!! These fellows should be prosecuted and jailed for fraud. Hereby enclosed my 3 carefully selected pictures.... At least now I know what a trash can is, I'm so happy now 😁

Nice geographic marker. Good crowd taking photos. Would have liked to get there earlier before Navajo merchant's took their crafts and wares display down. Pretty flag display.
We weren't sure what was here but stopped in. We were pleasantly surprised! You can tell that a huge amount of effort and thought went into it. The "talking" photos thing at the gift shop was a little corny but we had seen similar at the Mormon Battlion center in San Diego. It appeals to kids. They show 2 short movies about the journey the settlers took. Both are very well done. All of the cabins have narrative and the stories were great. Really brought the stories of the settlers to life. We ate amazing cookies at the concessions stand. Pricey at 4 bucks each. Nice clean bathrooms. So many nice helpful people to guide you around. We spent about 2 hours.

On our way out of Utah we randomly saw this place and decided to stop since we were already on a road trip.It was free and we start in the gift shop. They had a nice selection of things. My mom found a very nice wooden cane that was only $15! Great price for s nice piece of wood. She loves the cane. The walk around the Fort was nice and educational. We stopped when it was the middle of the day, so it wast hot hot. My mom is disabled so we hurried through the last few. Even in a rush we had a good time. We stopped by the outside booth and got some treats. My daughter got a free small ice cream cone. She accidentally dropped it and the nice woman gave her another one. My mom and I ordered the old fashioned lemonade and soda, jalapeno brittle, zucchini bread with lemon, and some of the ice cream for ourselves. All of it tasted great. We had a nice snack in a shaded area before hitting the road again. Great little experience.

Had no idea this visitor center was in Bluff. They tell an interesting story of the pioneers that settled the area in video and displays. There is a lot to see in the fort with cabins that each told a family story and other pioneer displays. We didn’t have didn’t go to all of it as we were there mid afternoon, and it was really hot. Fortunately, the visitor center with the video was air conditioned. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in town.

Very place to learn about the history in the area. We went on Sunday and there was several volunteers dressed up there to give you a little history on how the settlers made their way through Hole in the Rock and how they made it up San Juan Hill with their wagon train. The store and visitors center was closed because it was Sunday, but still very cool visit! And it’s free.

Wonderful learning experience for all ages. Tactile and kinesthetic learners can enjoyably experience these historical sites and have meaningful take aways. We are blessed to learn from the triumph and trials of those that came before us. They had such faith. My kids didn't want to leave. The wall of pictures was a fun start to learning from the historical videos of these pioneers.

This place is historic. They have volunteers telling you about the history of this place and how difficult it was for the pioneers to get there. This pioneers were made of stunner stuff, brave, courageous with a beautiful dream to make a better life for themselves and their families. Don't sell their women short the keept the family cohesion and their children together. I'm impressed by the homes that are here and the artifacts that their ancestors have loaned this place. Is very impressive what they did. Let we don't forget the pioneers that went trough great hardship, decease, starvation, lack of water, hostile natives, and conditions that were unimaginable. I'm proud of this people that made this country what it is today.

I've been to a number of historic sites in Utah and Bluff Fort is the most outstanding. It's free admission and clean bathrooms. It's staffed by unpaid volunteers who take anywhere from 4 months to 1-year of their lives and spend it there preserving the recreated site of the old civilian fort created by the Hole in the Rock Pioneers. That's a labor of love. They have a kitchen with proprietary hand made desserts such as the outstanding lemon zuccini cookie. They also hand make the candy, my favorite is the English Toffee. The volunteers help create many of the gift shop items such as rolling pins, bread boards, hand carved utensils, wooden toys, quilts, purses, bags, toys, costumes, metal items forged on site, and much more. The replica Co-Op has the best gift shop ever. It's stocked with artwork, jewelry, pots, baskets, figurines made my local Native Americans and other local artists. The volunteers dress in costume to help visitors feel as if they've traveled back in time. They have a clever video presentation that introduces the story of the pioneers and the fort starting with a funny "talking wall". The fort is stocked with well preserved artifacts donated from descendants of the pioneers. The replica cabins were also built by the descendants. There are two original buildings that have been restored as far as possible. The tour is self guided and has audio in several languages. You have to spend minimum 2 hours to really immerse yourself in all there is to see. The most prominent feature there is the strong feeling of peace and it's carefully maintained by the kindness and hospitality of the volunteers.

Really nice must-go place if you are thinking on stopping at Bluff. The Fort includes a main building with videos, information and a gift shop and an outside area with many carriages, houses, UTE and Navajo tepees and other gadgets from the gold era on the east side of Utah (late 1800s). The house and carriages are nicely restored and the entire area to walk around looks very inviting with audio clips explaining the history in English, Spanish, German and French languages. There is plenty of space to park outside, restrooms, and it is free of charge, just donations based if you want to donate. Some volunteers will help you with any doubts you may have!

Excellent! Bluff Fort is well worth a visit. Our family learned much about the courage of the hole in the rock pioneers and got to visit the re-created cabins honoring our ancestors. Our kids loved playing around the fort and the bakery cookies were delicious. Great gift shop, too. Thank you for preserving this important and inspiring history!

I love history museums as a former history teacher and this was one of my favorites. It had a well done movie to give the back story to the community and the people who created Bluff Utah and the Fort. There resilience was overwhelming and the pioneer spirit as well as the devotion to family and faith were noteworthy. The initial museum opens up to a hands-on walk through tour of the Fort with the stories of the spces and families told in multiple languages. We walked through and explored each home and listened to the family stories of struggles, successes and hardwork that make this place exist. I appreciated learning more about their experiences and work to live peacefully with the local Native American tribes. I did not know this was a museum that highlighted Mormon history as there was nothing forced upon you. This was a gem of a stop and it is even better as it is free and they sold goodies as well as ice cream on the hot day and had a room with a mister to cool down and air conditioning in the main museum and gift shop area with locally made crafts. If you are nearby this is well worth the visit to better understand the struggles to settle in these areas.

We just stopped because I wanted to use the bathroom. When we entered this amazing (big) collection of the Navajo and the Mormons we were blown away. It was all so neat and made with love, felt really authentic. Couple of times we pressed the button to hear the stories from the cabin owners. It was awesome. When we left, a really nice guy kept talking with us and answered all my questions. Would really recommend to stop by!
Great historic site that's a short trail along a huge rock formation and fence. There's a lot of history this way with some great hiking, camping, and much more outdoor recreation. Please leave no trace and be respectful. What an amazing site, we are truly blessed to be able to see this.

Interesting huge rock cliff face with many petroglyph from various eras. No explanations. One has to scramble over boulders to get closer to see better. A big fence protects them.

Worth the visit. Well marked and maintained gravel road leading in. No recent vandalism that I saw. Very enjoyable even in the heat. Easy walk to the fence. Nice area all around.

It is just very short byway from the main road but totally worth it. I have never seen so many amazing petroglyphs in one place. You need to watch carefully to find some hidden ones. The place is next to the campground.

Short walk from parking area to the petroglyphs that are behind a chain linked fence. Some really cool petroglyphs in a small concentrated area.
Katy Crocker — Google review
Great park. The trail along the cliff with the petroglyphs is a moderate hike, with a rocky trail that is slippery in spots, but we managed it with two young kids and 2 big dogs. Little dogs might have some difficulty. The trail is also pretty narrow and there is also a lot of brush, some of which you have to push through to get back to the road at the end, but most of it was only knee high so we didn't get scratched up too bad.
We were a little disappointed that there was no access to the sand island from the shoreline since the banks were so densely covered with really tall thickets of spiny brush. You can probably get to it from the boat launch, but there were three boats loading up and the current was pretty strong out past them so we weren't going to risk it with the kids and dogs.
There were some trails that lead into the brush, but we couldn't see if they went all the way through to the water and they were too short for me to go through without crawling. My husband definitely wouldn't fit.
All in all, good place to come for a picnic. Or a nice hike if you don't expect to get down to the water.
Felicia Marsh — Google review
A neat little area we stopped at when passing through the area, but wouldn't recommend to go out of the way to see. There is a very short hike to the area with a fence to see the petroglyph. Took us like 5-10 minutes top.

Sand Island Petroglyph panel is incredible. These petroglyphs were very different than others that I have seen. Last weekend, the flowers were blooming!

After staying in Bluff Utah, this was one spot that looked interesting to visit along the drive. It is in a free park where several families were swimming and eating lunch. The site is pretty nondescript and just a fence along the cliff where there were carvings. We were there alone in the beginning, so I explored the whole length up and down rocks and the middle section was the most impressive. There were other more modern additions besides some of what you expect in petroglyph art. As we were leaving several other families came. It was very cool to me as a history teacher but you have to explore and climb to find some of the highlights. I have visited many petroglyph sites in the US and internationally and there were some very nice ones here.

Amazing feeling to stand where indigenous folks stood thousands of years ago. Worth a visit! And there is a neat campground right next to it all.

These are great! And a super quick easy stop right off the road. You can drive right up to them. One thing I liked in particular was the differentiation in the amount of desert varnish that had accumulated. I would assume the darker ones have been there far longer than the newer glyphs, and given the dates on those presumably left by pioneers, you can guess at the ages of them which tells a bit of a story in itself.
Having visited dozens of sights I think this tells a chronological story better than any others.

Quick stop and easily accessible from the main road. You can drive close to the Petroglyphs are and walk just a few steps to enjoy the beauty of the small monument. The area is quiet and peaceful. There is no hiking required

Nice little stop off during our drive to Monument Valley. Trail along the walls is rough so flip flops would be a bad idea. There are clean pit toilets for a quick break on a road trip.

I love visiting these ancient sites and looking at the Petroglyphs. This one was fairly easy to find. It is sad, though, that modern men have to try and leave their own messages over these Petroglyphs.

Interesting place with a campground. Sad to see that some people have made their own marks on this wall.
Valley of the Gods, often referred to as a Miniature Monument Valley, is a stunning destination with Cedar Mesa sandstone monoliths and vast open spaces. It's known for its magical camping experience and offers breathtaking landscapes and monuments, especially at the north end of the valley. This BLM land attracts adventurous campers and is perfect for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure.
Valley of the Gods is an absolute gem! There were nearly no people here when we went although it was the middle of the summer so it was extremely hot! The camping was great and this is one of the best places I have found to do astrophotography thanks to the lack of light pollution that's in the area. If you're looking to go somewhere off the beaten path this is a great place to visit!

Beautiful place, many different viewing points and so much to see. This 17 mile dirt road is so much fun to drive. In most parts it's easy but there are a couple of spots that require some attention. We enjoyed our trip and would definitely recommend visiting.

Great drive. Wish there had a chance for a night stay, but not in the cards on this trip. Great place to overland or dry camp if able. The sign warning about driving conditions is a bit of a over exaggeration, we did fine with a Honda Fit in the group.

We arrived at valley of the gods in the dark after a long drive. This BLM area is just past monument valley and provides free camping with portable potty toilets at the beginning and end of the 17 mile loop that goes through amazing rock features. We awoke to gorgeous views and drove the entire loop taking it all in. There were many hiking/biking paths and other campers scattered throughout and it was a welcome refuge. So extremely thankful to have found this gem to spend a night and morning at.

We stopped by on our way to the Monument Valley from Moab. Not impressed at all. The prominent features are visible from the highway itself, and driving on the dirt road to see them up close in not worth the damage one might do to their undercarriage, if not driving a 4x4 vehicle.

We were in the area to tour Monument Valley, when we stumbled across Valley of the Gods. The dirt road is maybe not for everyone, but a sunset drive through this valley is well worth the trouble. Big beautiful landscapes and monuments abound, especially at the north end of the valley. This is BLM land so the place is frequented by Boondockers out in the valley. It's a great spot for adventurous campers!

One of the best landscapes part of the road is actually on gravel just the main hill but besides that everything is on new gravel. Take this road and avoid the main highway if you coming from the Mexican hat side I have a Harley Street glide and have no issue climbing that hill trust me

This is such a hidden gem! If you are in the area (or within 100 miles) make sure you do not miss this drive. It is free to enter and showcases some of the most amazing natural rock structures in the world. The roads are rough so go slow. It is 17 miles. The first half is where the action is. The second half you are just driving out. Allow at least 2 hours considering how many times you will want to stop and take pictures. We took several pictures of the same rock formations just due to the changing angle as we drove around. Did I mention it is free? While less iconic than Monument Valley's "Mittens", it is a much better display of nature's awesome raw beauty!

This place is special. I personally consider this my favorite place of all. It's laid back and chill. Perfect to disappear to. There isn't much around and that's probably why I loved it. This state park is built around entrenched meanders of the San Juan River and offers sweeping views of the river and surrounding canyon. The park charges a $5 entry fee, but visitors can also camp for $10 per night. There is a toilet and no water available for washing hands, but the view is worth it!
We got to Goosenecks State Park just before sunset to catch it going down over the horizon. There was almost no one there and it felt like we were shooting on another planet. The canyons are beautiful and the way the sun sets on the ridges is absolutely mesmerizing. I do wish we would have had more time to explore the park but if nothing else I would say this was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen during my time in Utah. It truly is breathtaking and peaceful there!

Very cool and a little scary to be able to camp around the rim. Be prepared for no shade except for the sites near the entrance. Really hot when we visited in early September. Sunset/sunrise and the night sky were all very beautiful to experience here.

One of the most amazing places I've camped. A photographers dream. 29 months on the road and I don't often stay at places that you have to pay to stay at but this was 100% worth the $10 per night fee. Wonderful views and places to explore. Out of every place I went on the Grand circle this is the place I will remember the most. Breathtaking and beautiful.

Wonderful place to Boondock for a couple of days!
The staff at the gate were very friendly and happy to see you there! Thank You!
The views of the canyon/Goosenecks were fabulous! I'd never seen anything like it. We were able to park near the rim and what views we had!!! The sunsets were magnificent and the "stars" were abundantly brilliant to see! You gotta stop in if you're in the area, day or night, it is a site to see.

I came to this region for Monument Valley, but I was spending over a week in the area, so did some adventuring. I am so happy that I found the Goosenecks. The view is incredible, and the sky at night while we were there was striking. If you have a chance, you owe it to yourself to swing through.

It's okay, could not get permit to stay at campground, even though it was empty. Tried to find Honaker Trailhead and camp there, but ended up driving all around all the primitive roads. But I have to admit the views from Gooseneck is one of the most beautiful sites, especially at sundown.

Mini horseshoe bend / canyon quite a small park but if you are in the area it is worth a look.
National park passes will not get you in here but it is just $5 per car so not a killer amount.

Nice little park with about 2 miles of walking trail and plenty of space for camping. There’s no trees or privacy however so it’d be a good place to stop in an RV or go car camping. The park is also dog friendly and a good replacement for Horseshoe Bend if you want no crowds.

Loved it! I would like to go back and dry camp right on the edge! $5 to enter the park, $10 if you are camping. There is a toilet, no water for washing hands.

Very small state park, which is $5.00 to enter and $10.00 to camp. We stay the night close to the edge and it was beautiful. This over looks the San Juan River, but what you see is what you get. This is all there is to the park with no service or running water so just come prepared to enjoy a night taking in spectacular views of this beautiful landscape. It's real close to Valley of the God's and the Moki Dugway.

Goosenecks State Park doesn’t have many amenities but makes up for it with some amazing scenery. It essentially is a place where you can walk up to the rim and overlook multiple river bends about a thousand feet below. One of the bends has a unique shape similar to a gooses neck hence the name. There are no railings or paths other than walking along the rim of the park area to overlook the river below. Be careful especially with young children in this park.
Doug Hoppe — Google review
Think Horseshoe Bend on a smaller scale, but many more bends. We paid $5 for the entire vehicle to enter. The road dead ends into the park. There was one other vehicle when we were there on a Sunday in July 2023. Would have been able to park RV. Parking is steps from the lookout, so very little walking! Absolutely amazing to see! Highly recommend! Bathrooms were available though we did not use. It's very close to Valley of the God's (do not skip seeing this!) and Forest Gumps famous highway (approx. 15 miles?).

I came here to see the annular eclipse. There’s a nice road entering the park. There’s plenty of space to park. And the bathrooms are very we kept. After that it’s all about the view. The San Juan river carving it’s way through the canyon is absolutely beautiful.

Highway 163, located in Monument Valley, served as the backdrop for a well-known scene in the popular movie Forrest Gump. Tom Hanks' character is depicted running across America and is shown on this highway with the Mitten Buttes, impressive rock formations, behind him. This spot has become known as Forrest Gump Point and has since become one of the most photographed locations in Monument Valley due to its unique composition.
Iconic view point of Monument Valley, famous for being the set of a scene from Forrest Gump movie.
Just park your car on the side of the road (a pullout area is present), get off and take some wonderful pictures.
The place can get crowded but waiting times are never too long.
However, be careful of traffic, as cars drive by fast.
Federico Salvati — Google review
Even if you are not a fan of the movie, this is still worth checking out, just for the views. We arrived at 9:30 on a Friday and there were already about 30 other people there. Crowds would come and go and for the most part everyone worked together to watch out for traffic and take turns getting photos & videos. There are plenty of pull off spaces along the side of the road, we were even able to find a spot large enough for our RV and tow car. I would imagine the earlier you can get here, the better for photos. You don't have to stand in the middle of the road for photos, in fact I think the photos that we took from the side of the road on the small hills came out better then the street ones.
Moving Forward Adventures — Google review
Definitely a view to look at, but you won't get it without seeing people doing funny things. Maybe that's a bonus. Be careful as cars are going by high speed. Take your time and if you want to capture the view in photos, plan how you are going to frame it. Then when the road is clear, take your image. But again getting one clean image without people is a tricky one for sure.
Sankha S Hota — Google review
This point is awesome, you can get the achievement of a classic movie and also review the impressive view. It was cloudy and wet day, so we barely saw the mountain behind. We stayed there for 1 hour wait for cloud fly away. It worth though hahaha. This point is on the way, watch out the car!!!
YH Chou — Google review
The place and the view are amazing. Not just for Forrest Gump fans. It is a normal road with cars going up and down (speed is slightly limited, but should be down to 20-25 mph for safety reasons), several pullouts for parking the cars.
People we met standing, laying, walking... on the road had "no morals". There is unlimited combination of taking photo/video for a group of 3 people (camera on the road. One is running, second is running, 3rd is running, group is running, 1st is laying on the road... Each idea must be taken as a photo, then a video. From the road. From 1 meter high, from 2 meters. Each of 3 people has at least one mobile. It means that everything must be done repeatedly on every single device. It doesn't stop because they also have gopro... You have been standing there for 15 minutes, but another hero takes a tripod and goes in front of everyone and also does several photo shooting disciplines. And he is suddenly in the photos of all the other people for the next > 10 minutes)
The Monument Valley Tribal Park Visitor Center is a stunning spot to take photos of the iconic West Mitten Butte, East Mitten Butte and Merrick Butte. The center is open 24 hours a day, has no restrictions on opening or closing times and offers stunning views of the park.
This park is awesome and really beautiful. The actual park is much more beautiful than seen in the picture. It has a 15 mile loop on an unpaved road which you have to do in your car and you have 2 hours to complete it and it is enough time to explore and click lot of pictures. They allow only 25 active cars at a time and usually there is 30 to 40 minutes waiting and the wait is worth it. There are several companies offering guided tour as well.

It's like a safari where you can drive and see the stunning rocks. Amazing! The price is 8$ per person. Stayed there hours and there is shadows because of the rocks - very pleasant to rest on the rock's shadow. We took the 18 mile scenic drive. What a beautiful valley. Breathtaking views at every turn in the road. It's a good thing we had rented a 4 wheel drive Trail Ready Jeep as the road was very bumpy. I don't recommend trying it with a car.

This is a once in a lifetime thing to do!
I got up real early to take pictures of the sunrise. My wife didn’t! It was -12C, but some great pictures.
When we came back to do the valley floor trip, the lady at the entrance gate, was so helpful and friendly, that it made a great start. The young girl at the permit centre and the young man at the entrance could not have been nicer. All of these people are a great credit to the tribal association!
The valley floor trip was excellent. We did it about nine in the morning in early Feb. cold but clear. What a great round trip. Washboarding of some of the valley roads took me back to my days on the farm, that was the only downside.
Excellent day!

This is truly a bucket list landmark, a must see if you are visiting Arizona. A park with astonishing views and beauty. Visitors need to pay an entry fee which gives you access to the car loop and a couple of walking trails. I highly recommend arriving before noon as the loop is open only until 3 pm and the trails only until 4 pm. The loop could take you 90 minutes to complete since there are several spots worth stopping. Restrooms available at the Visitors Center

The views were spectacular! The drive-yourself option allowed us to see just about every formation. While they recommend 4-wheel drive, I am not sure it is really required. The roads are graded but rough, however. The only negative was that the gift shop only had limited colors for commemorative t-shirts.

Can’t describe the magnificent views of this park. It takes at least 2 hours to go around all the spots on the map. It is breathtaking every corner. Definitely do the 17 mile self guided tour.
The last batch is for 2 pm. You have to get out of the park by 4 pm if you are doing the self guided tour in your own vehicle.
Park entry fee is $20
Self guided tour requires a permit from the visitor center which is free
Due to Covid they are operating at 50% capacity i.e they only allow 25 cars in a single batch so better reach early if you want a spot

Really interesting and great place to experience. Would love to see the caves and have a run arount one of the buttes, but unfortunately this had to be planned a bit more: tickets for experiencing the caves are both very high priced and needs to be booked in advance. You cannot experience the caves without guided tour tickets 🥺 bummer... But anyway the free drive and hiking opportunities was great.

I love that Monument Valley is in Navajo land and that we can visit this beautiful and sacred land by driving the 17 mile loop...
I love that the gift shop is full of Native American artwork and that when I am there and purchase something I am supporting them...
There are also Native Americans selling their artwork along the loop...
There is a restaurant and hotel there for those interested.

We will definitely visit again...one of those places we visit once in a while when in the area...

Words do not begin to describe this magnificent place. It is a spiritual experience that cannot be described. Unfortunately, we visited on a Sunday and we did not see the warning that the dirt road through the park is not suitable for low cars. We bottomed out at least 2X and had to turn back at the first opportunity.
However, the Visitor Center is a good place to view the formations and provides for spectacular pictures. We were in awe and took so many pictures throughout the day as the light changed. As I stood there and viewed this magnificent place I thanked God for His gift.

Goulding's Lodge is a casual Old West-themed property located in the far northwest of Monument Valley, just a few miles from the main part of the park. This lodge offers laid-back rooms and polished cabins for guests to stay in, as well as an indoor pool, gym, and restaurant. Other amenities include free self parking, WiFi in public areas, a terrace, picnic area, and computer station.
If I could give 10 stars I would! My husband and I took an 8,000 mile road trip from Alabama around the northern and western part of the US. A dream of mine has always been to visit Monument Valley and our stay at Gouldings made it all the more wonderful. I had known I wanted to stay there from viewing their webcam. But what it even more interesting was learning the history of the lodge when we got there. We had only booked for one night but ended up booking a second night and I wish we could have stayed longer. We loved the restaurant, the food was delicious, the museum and the gift shop. Also seeing John Wayne’s cabin that he stayed in during filming was something I will always remember. The room was very clean and we loved waking up to the sunrise over the monuments from the front porch. If I ever get to go back this will defiantly be the place I will stay again!

Beautiful hotel & cabins. Everything is hilly area though, climbing up for dining & breakfast area. Most awesome restaurant, DO NOT MISS it. I am super glad we chose to stay in cabin instead of room, we had amazing view especially in the morning for the sunrise which fyi is not to be missed. The cabin was really big, 2 rooms queen beds, plenty of parking right in front. Don’t waste hot water, their tank is small it seems. They also had a tiny kitchenette & cutlery we could use.

Pleasantly surprised. Room was clean. View was stunning. Motel comfortable. Pillows need replacement, lumpy. It’s January, so the restaurant had limited hours, but the family style food was good. The workers at the hotel and restaurant are really nice. Enjoyed the cute dogs in the area. They belong to people who live nearby.

Pros: Clean, well maintained apartments with all common amenities. The kitchen had general utensils and tea/coffee pods. Living room had good seating area for four people. About 10 minutes drive to monument valley. General store 2-3 min away.
Cons: You dont get the view of monument valley from the rooms. Body wash was not provided in toiletries.

Great place to stay when visiting Monument Valley. We stayed in one of one bedroom cottages, and it was spacious and clean and had a great view of the landscape from the porch. Loved having a kitchen, and the fact that they have a grocery store very close by was great. The price was not too bad considering the location and amenities. The hotel that is closer to the gate of Monument Valley would obviously give you better views and location, but it is also a lot more expensive. This place worked out for us (3 adults) perfectly.

Nice little lodge, place to get away. This lodging is best in the upper level mostly for the view in the early morning and evening. Another gorgeous view. The museum was not open when we went but the gift shop was. The restaurant was open for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening.
There is a little fridge, coffee maker, no microwave but if you go grab a little lunch at there grocery store you can sit out on the balcony and enjoy an amazing view.
They have tours I highly recommend booking so you can see some areas you would not be able to see. Their guide at Goulding lodge is absolutely wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area making it an even better experience.

Wonderful room, they accepted our two small dogs without excessive deposit. The room was large and lovely and CLEAN!!!! Excellent food at the restaurant on site, the museum is lovely and well done, don't forget to leave a nice tip!! They have a few "movie props" to be able to take a picture or two. The scenery is breathtaking. Our tour guide, Billy, was so informative and helpful!!! The gift shop was lovely with lots of different things to choose from. I couldn't believe how fast our time went, after 2 days and nights, sad to leave.
I would highly recommend and definitely think about going to again!!!
10 stars even though 5 was the highest! Really excellent place to stay!!!!!

Loved our stay here. The room was so comfortable and the perfect spot to wake up to in monument valley. The restaurant had nice food and the staff was quiet but nice. Would stay again! They also have a John Wayne museum as this is where he would stay while out west filming.

Love the view from our rooms! Nicely appointed, albeit fairly modest (especially in light of their NOT so budget pricing). The staff at the front desk tried hard but weren't quite sure what they were doing. Did really enjoy our stay, though.

While I haven't been there yet, I want to take a moment to thank Brad and his team for their compassionate and generous response to our cancellation. My family and I had to postpone out trip to Arizona due to an unforeseen family emergency and the team was very respectful, refunding our trip in the whole despite the fact that the deadline for the cancellation had passed. We will be planning the trip next year again and will definitely be staying here. A heartfelt thanks to this wonderful group of people.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly. Our cabin was clean and comfortable with a full fridge and toaster. The views were amazing although I would have loved a cabin without any other cabins in front. Our only regret was not booking for more than one night. Will go back to Goulding's in the future. Just can't beat the location.

Lodge is located at a great location near the monument valley. The room was nice and clean, the shower head in the bathroom was a bit too low. The food in the restaurant tasted good, but the waitress could have mentioned that one of the dishes was very spicy. The only thing that really bothered me was the pack of dogs, that lingered around the rooms, the balcony and the restaurant.

Stayed 2 nights in their one bedroom villa, all brand new and nicely furnished. Comfortable and perfect for a small family. The restaurant on the property is good, just wish there was more variety. A small museum is worth the visit for the history of the Goulding's & western movies filmed in MonumentValley. The gift shop was small but nice. A gas station and big laundromat are also right on property. The location is perfect and so close to everything. Service was courteous and friendly. Definitely coming back again.

Unbelievable location! Rooms were clean, we had a two bedroom. The beds were comfortable, it would have been nice if the couch was a pull out. Slept 5 people, the smallest person in our group got the small couch in the living room. Full kitchen was great.

Make sure to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking a place. They compare hundreds of booking websites and typically will have rooms much cheaper than others! Thank me later! This hotel is the best rated in the area. I have been coming here for a very long time. If you stay for a few days you for sure will love it I'm sure!
Great stay! You really cant beat the views if you are wanting to see Monument Valley. Stayed at Goulding's Lodge for my birthday and we were really glad we did. There is a restaurant on site and food was good. A tad dated but still enjoyed the overall stay. Would recommend.

This is a Navajo Tribal hotel and has a restaurant and gift shop nearby. We stayed in the typical rooms. It has a small indoor pool that is not heated but there are plenty of towels. The rooms are fairly clean and a little dated but not too bad. I wish the cleanliness would have been a little better (I accidentally dropped a bar of wet soap on the floor and I picked it up with lots of hairs attached to it). Lots and lots of good hot water. No room service (as usual in many other places as companies try to cut costs but keep their prices the same or higher). Each room has a beautiful view of Monument Valley. A gas station and small grocery store is also nearby. Next time, one night is enough as two nights is overkill.

Options are limited in Monument Valley, so our expectation were low. However, Goulding's Lodge is really nice. The rooms were nice. An important recommendation is to get into the lower building because you can get unobstructed views of the sunrise over Monument Valley. The restaurant food was decent and it was a good chance to try the Navajo fry bread (which is really just greasy bread) sandwich. We even ordered one with powdered sugar for a elephant ear clone.

Very enjoyable
The cabins were nicely maintained, super clean and very enjoyable. Would absolutely stay here again. Check in staff very accommodating extending checkout to allow our completing a morning tour. Ate twice in restaurant and a club sandwich for lunch was huge and tasty. Server was great (outgoing and friendly) and provided excellent service. Facility includes gas station, walking trails, gift shop, restaurant, museum and more - all well kept and super clean
Disliked · Also ate dinner and food was very good but server was poor. Sadly this servers lack of attentiveness and service took away from this dining experience

Wow what can I say? This place was so cool! I liked that we had our own little house with amazing views to the canyon! Literally behind us we had this amazing tall sandstone wall! We stayed here so we could visit monument valley which is 10 minutes away! The Goulding’s had a whole community that included a restaurant with tasty food! A grocery store, a Laundromat, gift store, pool and gas station, all located in the same area which made it so convenient for our trip because we needed to do some laundry after being on the road for a few days. The house itself had almost everything! 2 TVs 2 queen beds, kitchen with fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. At some point we needed more towels so we called room service and they sent someone right away. Beware that this place doesn’t have the latest technology when it comes to the TVs but they offered great cable movies selections so we were able to watch some Marvel movies. I mean who needs that when you’re in a place like this but just saying haha. We also had great hiking spots around us we were able to visit an Arch that was located 5 minutes away from our hotel.
This place didn’t include free breakfast but the restaurant offered a great menu selection. I’d love to stay here again

Stayed at their cabins (small buildings), all brand new and nicely furnished. Good for a family. They have a small kitchen. Good A/C. The restaurant on property is good. A small museum is worth the view for western movie fans. Also a nice gift shop. A gas station and big laundromat are also right on property.

I didn’t expect this to be such a gem! The hotel seems old, but it’s so well maintained, with great service, amazing location and views AND lots of services around in the compound - restaurant, laundry groceries and even car wash. Really enjoyed the stay and had an epic sunrise view from the bed.
The team is very welcoming and provide all the info. 10/10, would come back again, great value for the price (especially compared to other lodges around national parks in the nearby states).

Nestled near the heart of Monument Valley, Goulding Lodge offers a captivating retreat just a short 5-10 mile drive away. Perched on a hill, the rooms boast breathtaking views of Monument Valley Park from private balconies. The majestic scenery unfolds before you, creating a serene backdrop.
Complete with a gift shop, restaurant, and a fascinating history museum, the lodge ensures a well-rounded experience. Below, a convenient gas station, albeit not open 24 hours, alongside a convenience store and market cater to your needs. A thoughtful touch is the on-site car wash, perfect for refreshing your vehicle after a dusty journey through the valley.
The staff's friendliness enhances the overall experience, and the restaurant impresses with reasonable prices and a diverse menu. Be prepared for a bit of a workout navigating the hilly campus, with stairs leading to the restaurant that may challenge those less athletically inclined. While not explicitly handicap accessible, driving up the hill remains an option.
Despite the slightly dated appearance of the rooms, equipped with the essential amenities, my stay was peaceful and enjoyable. Goulding Lodge provides a comfortable base for exploring the wonders of Monument Valley.

We are a family of 4 (kids ages 14 and 11) and we stayed in one of the “suites” down the hill which was its own stand alone little house. It had a small kitchenette (fridge microwave and toaster), a small couch, and a queen bed in the main room, then a small bedroom with a second queen bed and a bathroom at the end of the hall. There was a nice porch with a gorgeous view of monument valley. The suite itself was not in the best shape - could’ve used some repairs (chipped molding, broken blinds) and a better cleaning (dirty blinds). A roomy place to spend the night before or after exploring Monument Valley.

Very comfortable and clean room. They seem to all have balconies with a great view of Monument Valley. We were able to watch the sunrise from the comfort of our own room, drinking the better-than-usual hotel room coffee. The indoor pool was warm and had change rooms inside the pool building (you have to walk outside to the pool, restaurant, etc. - room doors are on the outside of the building). Wish we could have stayed longer than just one night. Would definitely recommend or go again!!

It was a really nice lodge/hotel to stay at prior to the road trip to Monument Valley. The Villas part of the Gouldings Lodge was nice it definitely felt like a house with the way it’s designed. I also got to check out the Gouldings Museum/Trade Post Place and it was an interesting museum to check out as it basically showcases not only the history of the old west movies that were filmed around the Monument Valley area but also the history of trading, tourism and culture as well so yeah I definitely recommend this hotel if you’re going out to the Monument Valley area.

What an amazing tour! I cannot recommend Gouldings enough. We chose a 2.5 hour tour. We really enjoyed the educational hogan tour, it was so interesting and fun to learn about the homes they constructed, the blankets and other information. The beautiful spits we stopped at were amazing! My mother and mother in law absolutely loved this experience- thank you!

Awesome place to stay at. We stayed in a cabin at it was fantastic. Clean, good size, with a kitchen corner, TVs, and great new of Monument Valley. The restaurant is also very good, just gets very busy un the evenings from 6:30pm onwards. Not enough staff also. The museum is great too, small but perfect. Highly recommended staying here, I actually like it better than the View hotel.

This is, without a doubt, the most interesting Burger King in the world. Even if you're not a fan of burger king, you owe it to yourself to check out the exhibit on the Navajo code talkers, and the heritage exhibits outside. On another note, I passed through here late at night and had a good meal here, and the staff were really nice. So good all around!

Food was average for Burger King. You must wear a mask at this time (8/20/22) . They will either offer you one @ .50 or provide your own. If you do not prefer to wear one, you will be asked to leave. Just wear the mask and respect the Indian Reservation rules .

I stopped by here on March 26, 2022. I've eaten at many burger joints fast food, sit down, and otherwise. The meal I received from this Burger King far surpassed any food I've ever received from a fast food restaurant in my life. I live in San Diego, and I'm looking for a reason to drive back through Kayenta just to eat here again. I got the double whopper meal. The meat was well cooked, juicy, and tasted fresh. The same can be said for all the vegetables on the the sandwich. The meal I received here looked and tasted like what you see and expect from pictures...mind blowing. If you're driving through the Navajo nation and want to get some good food, this Burger King will not disappoint.

This is not just a Burger King, it is a Navajo code talker mini Museum. The owners father was a code talker and there are many of the items that he brought back from Japan in there. Including seven Japanese Battlefield Flags, officers pistol, and many other things. There is a small code talkers Museum next door with more of his memorabilia in it. Sadly I did not take any pictures, except this one. Support our real American troops and drop by here

Strangely there's a burger at an Impossible Price of near 12 dollars with no drink or side . Up from what used to be $4.92 just yesterday it seem impossibly . So Much for watching your figures and pretending to save dying " ANYWAYS " cows .

BLOWN AWAY! Was not expecting to happen upon this detailed tribute & micro museum honoring the Navajo Code Talkers from WWII. What a find. If you are in the area, passing through or a local, please stop in, grab breakfast or lunch and take in this wonderful exhibit that is loaded with many many artifacts. This location is well-staffed with friendly cheerful employees and the food was perfect. I will get his first five stars. However, I'm a driver and usually when the driver stops passengers they offer the driver a meal. This time they told me that I had to have so many passengers in order to get a free meal. It's not. The rule that gives me is the way he said it as he was handing me my food as if I couldn't pay for it. So I'll never stop there with any of my passengers again. I recommend no one else does either.
Navajo National Monument is a site that showcases the ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings. It is an ideal spot for those who are traveling from Glen Canyon to Monument Valley. The visitor center is well-staffed, and there are hiking trails available along with two free campgrounds. However, some trails and one campground may be closed during winter season. The views of the ruins in this serene location are spectacular and highly recommended for tourists looking to explore the history of the area.
This park is not open every day and the hours may not correspond to what you think they might, with various jurisdictions for Mountain Standard versus Mountain Daylight... We were unable to go down and hike into the canyon but we were able to enjoy Tsegi Canyon overlook. The view is spectacular and it is a short drive to be able to look over this viewpoint from the highway. It is a long way from most other parks and lodging. If you're planning to go here, it may require prioritization so that you can get there in time on the right day.

An amazing place to learn about the Navajo people and get an understanding of the cliff dwellings settlement. Visitor Center had great display of how life might have been here in the past. Also possible to see a dino footprint. Not too long paved walking trail to the overlooking of the Cliff dwelling itself. Along the way you could also learn about plants and their usage in the area. Very interesting.

Lovely little hike with delightful canyon views and a breathtaking end vista. Surely worth an hour stopover if you are driving by the area. The main hike takes 30 to 45 mins round trip, and isn't strenuous. There are a few other trails if you'd like to explore the surrounding area more. The entrance is free, which is pretty amazing considering the quality of the park itself.

We stumbled upon this on our way to the Four Corners Monument and did not get to spend enough time here. Then it began to snow and we didn't have jackets. Do yourself a favor and spend time hiking here and seeing the ruins. We'll try to get back here and give it the time it deserves. The views are spectacular!

Beautiful place to visit. I assure you, that you'll have an amazing experience everything you visit here. It's basically free, everything.
The Visitor's Center has a lot of knowledge and history to share about the people who have inhabited this area over the last few thousand years.
There are free dispersed camping sites with no hookups, a stationary grill. No place to have a campfire though. Most impressive of all, there is a restroom with real plumbing that is actually heated during the cold months. Camp sink, and Rangers that live on and patrol the property regularly.
Beautiful picturesque views, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff as well. Rarely ever crowded except, except during the nicer spring and summer months. Finding a good spot can be a little competitive however; you can almost always get spot nonetheless.
A rare hidden gem that most don't know about. Mainly because it's off the beaten path, about 30 miles from the closest grocery store, so load up before you come out. You won't regret visiting. No squatters either. The Rangers take care of that.

A short (≈1/2 mile) hike on a paved trail takes you to an overlook where you can see some ruins across the canyon. I strongly suggest bring binoculars, or a long-lenses camera to be able to see them well. The canyon is gorgeous as well.
The NPS park rangers were kind and helpful in explaining where we should go. Face masks are required, as this is on native lands.
The visitor center closes at 4:30 MST in the winter.

Great area, helpful staff. Easy access off of Highway 160. Plenty of parking, great hiking trails. The walk down to
Betatakin Cliff Dwelling overlook has quite a bit of elevation change. Binoculars would be helpful to bring with you. Some of the buildings still appear to have intact roofs. The visitor center has great exhibits and a well produced video to give a summary of the site. There is no fee. If you are in the area, this is worth a few hours of your time.

Small national monument, but worth a stop if you are in the area. Highly suggest coming up paved 564, not 221 which is a rough dirt road. They have a little shop, restrooms, and a few trails including a short one down to a viewpoint to see the dwellings from afar.
Jetsetting Jogger — Google review
This is the viewpoint for the ruins. You are a fair distance from them, so make sure you bring a visual aid, such as a zoom lens, or binoculars to make out the details.
The path is well maintained and about 1.3 mile or 2km in total.
Worth it to see these historic things.
Antelope Canyon is a famous slot canyon located on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, known for its unique angles and beautiful light shafts. This incredibly photogenic natural wonder is carved out of sandstone by wind and water, creating a mesmerizing temple of nature where light and shadow dance together. The symphony of shapes and textures make it an ideal destination for photographers looking to capture the beauty of this geological marvel.
I was very fortunate to visit Antelope Canyon on April 19th,2022. You can’t judge it by it’s photo. You do need to see it in person and feel it’s own beauty. Face mask still mandatory there, that’s the federal and tribal law. Best to book tickets online. Best way to visit with plan ahead.

Wow, what can you say about this place? It was truly amazing. The colors and the way the waters have formed the canyon are fabulous. We visited the upper canyon. You must buy tickets for a tour, you can not go into the canyon without a Navaho guide. You take a short ride in bus/truck to the entrance of the canyon. They have relaxed the mask mandate. Our tour guide was very helpful in getting us great pictures and was very informative. The whole tour takes approximately 1.5 hours. At the end of the tour you have to go up an incline on an aluminum walkway, I don't consider myself to be in very good shape, but we just took it slow and had no problems. Then you have to go down more steps and another declining walkway to the bus. It's not a cheap tour, but I felt it was worth it. The beauty is breathe taking.

We decided to visit Antelope Canyon for New Year's Eve. It was an amazing experience. We took the tickets in advance, a month in advance. The canyon itself has two tiers to visit, upper and lower, we visited the upper one. The best time to visit is 12 o'clock, at this time the sunlight falls so that illuminates all the walking trail in the canyon. Unfortunately there were no seats available for this time and we were there at 10:30, but it was no less beautiful. First we arrived at the gathering place, from there we were taken by buses to the canyon, it's close by, about 10 minutes drive. You can't get there on your own, as it is a private territory of an Indian tribe. On the spot, the guide led our group to the canyon, while telling about the history of the canyon. The guide also took photos on phones. It was my first time at the canyon and I loved it and was delighted by the beauty created by nature! Next time we plan to visit the lower tier of the canyon. I recommend everyone to visit this creation of nature at least once in a lifetime, believe me it is worth it!

You can visit only with an organized tour, so make sure you make your reservation in time. And visit in the prime time, the sun penetrates the canyon and you get to experience the most amazing sights.

Tremendously phenomenal!!! I love the Antelope more than the Grand caynon. You can feel the sacred atmosphere. Literally down-to-earth experience. A native American guide helps you move around the area and takes wonderful pics. My guide, Jessica is amazing! Thanks for sharing this historic and iconic place.
Please never climb up the caynon rock. It is risky for yourself and disrespectful for the natural monument. Let us keep here for our future generations.
You'd strongly recommended to make a reservation before walk-in.

Amazing place to visit…!
Grading 5 stars for Park
Grading 1 star for admission 🤜😭( greedy Indian tribe)
Be aware there cost to go in this place, it’s not National Park, it’s owned by Indian Tribes. Cost $80/per person to go in upper Antelope and $72/per person for lower Antelope, you have to book tour to go in this place, there no other access to go in without tour.
With my opinion, lower Antelope much better than upper, if you decide to go in upper first than you have to go in lower. If you go in lower so you don’t have to spend money/time to go upper.

Antelope Canyon in Arizona is a natural wonder that left me utterly awestruck. This fully guided tour through the upper Antelope Canyon is an experience I will cherish forever.
Fully Guided Tour: From the moment you arrive, it's evident that the safety and enjoyment of visitors are paramount. The tour guides are not only knowledgeable about the canyon's history and geology but also deeply passionate about sharing its beauty. Their expertise adds an educational dimension to the adventure.
Upper Antelope Canyon's Allure: The upper Antelope Canyon is truly the crown jewel of this natural wonder. The way the light beams filter into the narrow sandstone crevices, creating an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colors, is nothing short of magical. It's a visual symphony of reds, oranges, and purples, dancing on the smooth, curved walls of the canyon. The interplay of light and shadow creates an otherworldly atmosphere that captivates your senses.
The Light Beams: One of the most enchanting moments of the tour occurs when you witness the sunlight penetrating the narrow opening at the top of the canyon. The resulting beams of light, often referred to as "shafts," are like celestial spotlights, illuminating the canyon's depths. They change in intensity and color as the sun moves across the sky, providing a dynamic and ever-evolving spectacle that photographers and nature enthusiasts alike will adore.

The Antelope Canyon is one of the unmissable attractions in a West Coast travel. I visited the Upper one with "Antelope Slot Canyon Tours", I don't know the cost because I booked through a travel agency months in advance. The tour starts from the center of Page and there's a 20 minutes travel with an off road vehicle to get to the entrance. The actual visit lasts from 45 minutes to an hour, but the pace is quite fast because there are a lot of groups that must flow smoothly. Our guide was a fun guy, who took photos of us, also suggesting the sweetest spots to take them. Really an amazing experience.

Great place to visit. You should check and book your ticket in advance. I do not recommend any walk-in. Also, make sure that they are open the day you gonna go before you start driving. It can be 8+ hours of round trip from Vegas only to know that they are closed for various reason like flooding, etc.
No kids under 8, plan accordingly.
No bags of any kind is allowed, carry a water bottle though.
There is a half a mile of hike on the return, get ready for some work out!
How good the tour is, depends solely on your guide. So good luck on that! Fortunately, we had a fantastic guide who explained each and every intricate details. As of this review, he go by Blue Sky and works with Adventurous Antelope Canyon Tours.
Best months to visit: June and July
Best time: 11 am to 2 pm for the best lighting.
Less crowd: 3 pm tour. You get more time to spend.
There are several scenic spots, stop by.

Natural Beauty, A Must See! Tour guide was great, you are in groups of 10 so not too big at all, and the beauty inside just speaks for itself!

Breath taking site, that you must see. The views are just fantastic, almost unreal.
Be aware it’s better to come towards midday as, the sun is at the best position to enjoy the canyon. Also make sure you book with the excursion as you must be with a guide to visit the canyon

It's a must see. Everything about Antelope Canyon is stunning. If you get a good guide they will show you how to take excellent pictures inside the canyon. We also have the privilege of watching a developing thunderstorm come through.

It was an unforgettable experience.
The upper antelope canyon is very attractive, especially after the light beams enter into the canyon, changing different light colors and giving a different view.
It is fully guided tour .The tour guides are all Indian.
Best timing to see the proper light beam is 11 am -12 pm in summer.
Sharing some pictures.

Ken's tour was great. The Canyon is absolutely beautiful. Be sure to research next time to visit for the best lighting and colors coming through.
I definitely recommend coming for a tour.

amazing experience!! It looks like a painting on canvas. A true work of art! The photos look incredible. There is a guide along the route explaining and helping, who is super attentive.

Beautiful place. an hour and a half walk through the canyon. Though probably faster if you aren't spending time taking awesome pictures! Must join tour to visit. Book ahead of time to make sure there's space!

First Time there. Amazing! Went there in a weekend, with a guided tour. I was impressed by few things: you get into this wonder just in the middle of nowhere through a very well organised routine, setup to avoid losing tourists… 😅. Local guides explain the strict rules (appreciated) to follow, and then you get into the belly of the hearth discovering something unique. This is a magic from the nature. Place is perfectly kept, maniac clean and each stop and explanation reveals the hidden secrets of this place. Wanna take some good photo? Just ask the guide to show the woman in the wind, the UFO and all the hidden natural sculptures… and find also yours (I had the impression to take photo of a something new… like a mummy… see in photos). Must see!

An amazing experience !! As soon as you see the hidden gem you will be amazed how nature has painted this beautiful canvas. Every part tells a story and how the reflection of light plays a beautiful hide and seek game , providing you some breathtaking pictures to remember for lifetime. I would highly recommend anyone who is planning to visit. You would need guided tours and tickets to visit this beauty.

Amazing experience.
We booked the group tour for the upper canyon, and everything went well. Our guides gave us the details then drove us to the sites and spent a while explaining the backgrounds of the canyon origins.
We indulged in its beauty and glory - have to see it to believe it cause what we see on TV and on computer backgrounds of these photos, would not do justice unless seen in person.

Antelope Canyon is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. I joined a day trip tour from Las Vegas. It was a long ride on the tour bus. But it was totally worth it as soon as I saw Antelope Canyon. I can’t believe how beautiful it is, and the tour guide was very knowledgeable about taking pictures in the canyon and shared the secrets with us. I’m glad I saw all these gorgeous views, not just in photos.

First off, the colors and shapes of the canyon walls are straight-up mind-blowing. You’ll feel like you’re walking through a surreal painting with every twist and turn.
The light beams that sneak through the cracks and bounce off the walls? Yeah, they’re like something out of a fantasy movie. Get your camera ready because you’re gonna want to capture every magical moment.
Exploring the canyon is a blast, too. Whether you’re squeezing through narrow passages or admiring the towering sandstone formations, every step feels like an adventure.
Pro tip: book a tour with a local guide. They know all the best spots and can fill you in on the history and legends behind this incredible place.

Incredible natural landscape created by water and wind erosion. This is a must see when you are in northern Arizona.

Must visit if you are near Arizona.
For some of us the visit may seem expensive, but it is worth every dollar.
If you're visiting in summer expect the place to be absolutely crowded, but you will be able to see light beams.
If you're visiting in the winter, the groups will be small (10 ish people), but the lighting conditions will be worse

Highly recommend Upper antelope canyon to whoever is visiting the South Rim.
I’ve not been to the lower antelope but I’m sure that is equally breathtaking.
You will need reservations to get here and there are a few tour companies available. I had booked with Sightseer’s tour and loved the experience. Our tour guide was very informative and shared all the best ways we could get shots of the canyon :)

This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been with these gorgeous slot canyons that have beautiful cave like structures and rock formations. It is on a Navajo Reservation so you need to sign up for a tour to see it. It is stunning and only pictures can really give you an idea of what you will see.

Visiting Upper Antelope Canyon was an awe-inspiring experience! The beauty of the natural rock formations, the play of light and shadows, is beyond words. The guided tour was informative, and our guide was fantastic in explaining the geology. It's a must-visit if you're in Page, Arizona, and an absolute feast for nature lovers and photographers alike.

There were some Navajos selling jewelry, so be aware that if they are giving you a tour, they will either want you to buy their jewelry or at least provide a tip at the end. If you do not want to, then politely let them know, "No. Thank you."
I have to say it was very nice to talk with the gentleman who was showing us the dinosaur tracks. Yes, we did give him some money, but it was a pleasure talking to him and having him show us around.

There was a very nice young man that volunteered to take us on a tour just for tips. He was very knowledgeable and we learned so much! Definitely worth a good tip. We would not have found all the amazing tracks and fossils with our him! If someone is there to give you a tour definitely take it with them! Very cool!

Awesome spot. Might be the best roadside attraction I've ever been to, and it's free. Rick lives nearby and explains everything; tipped $7. Would be great if they continue to make this better with support from the community.

Right off of the highway. Easily marked. A younger Navajo man showed us around. They do not charge anything but we gave him a tip for his time and knowledge. Our sons loved it. There are also a few souvenir stands set up with authentic Navajo jewelry for sale.

This Place was AMAZING! We happen to run across the sign on the road on our way home from Utah to Texas and debated to turn around and im glad we did. 100% this is a must place to stop. Weather you have kids or not this is a place you will never experience anywhere else! There are 100s or tracks and fossils. Its amazing this place isn't more known. And if you stop take time to look at the hand made native jewelry. BEAUTIFUL WORK! This stop is definitely on our agenda for our next family vacation.

The trackways were certainly very convincing of being real dinosaur tracks. There were some things that were a stretch but overall it was very cool to see and our children loved it. We had no cash but the Navajo Indian that was there said he would take cannabis, beer or whiskey in exchange for a tour. So, I gave him a six-pack of an IPA we happened to have with us. Certainly worth stopping by!

I do not recommend visiting during tourist season. I’ve passed though here many times and the few times we stopped to stretch our legs we were never harassed to leave a ‘small donation.’
We stopped here to let our young kids see the cool tracks that I saw as a kid. We were flagged down to park in a space near the track site and we’re asked for a ten minute guided tour for a donation. We had no cash on us. Not even a dollar, we didn’t take cash with us as we were only seeing family on the reservation. Once we said we didn’t have cash the lady who waved us down said “fine you can walk it yourself” which I already planned on doing. The same woman proceeded to ask us 3 more times if we had money for a small donation or tip. It would be offensive to give her the $0.80 cents I had in the bottom of my bag.
We walked 20 feet from our car saw a few tracks and we’re yelled at by a man in the “tourist guide group.” He made us uncomfortable and said “We shouldn’t be here because we didn’t give money.”
We left immediately. Very disappointing. Not a good look.

Really enjoyed this stop (free, but donations appreciated). It's so awesome to walk in dinosaur's footsteps. Red Bird "Ricky", told us about the land and it's discoveries. His people have lived and watched over the area for generations. It was a very neat and informative stop, definitely recommend!

Amazing! You can walk around and see the Dinosaur tracks, just off the main highway. We were shown around by a lovely Navajo lady, they conserve the area and welcome guests to visit and explore for a tip donation.
A really incredible experience.

Have a local guide give you the tour! It's a big time saver to have all the good stuff pointed out to you fast. It took about 10 min for this old grandma to show me around and point out even more cool stuff to me than I was able to read about online about the site later. I recommend tipping $10-20.
Pat Manly — Google review
Worth the voluntary tipping(no entrance fee), the tour takes about 10-15 minutes. It's just a quick stop on the way, and you can see some amazing prints and even partly skeltons (a few need some imagination).

Very interesting roadside attraction! We had an unexpected tour guide who was an elder Navajo woman who had led tours since she was a young woman. She was very knowledgeable and smart, very nice. Our teens loved it.

This was a very nice hot place with an interesting history. We had a wonderful guide who was very knowledgeable about the dinosaurs and the history. It was nice to be among the rocks and sand. This place gave me peace. My children loved it. Very original place. I highly recommend a visit. Be sure to tip the tour guides as this place is not funded and kept by the tour guide.

A great, truly unique experience. The guide was very friendly and informative. He spent a good amount of time with us showing the different dinosaur tracks and explaining the history of the area. He also gave us some unique rocks as a parting gift. We tipped him $15 for 3 people (but he didn't pressure us for money and didn't specify an amount)

Made a quick roadside stop. There were a few Native people waiting for tourists. One women approached and offered a tour for tips. It was interesting and she pointed out footprints, vegetarian and other interesting looking rocks/ fossils and formations. It was a great way to take a break from the car.

What a fun quick stop. Lots of Dino prints that young and old will enjoy. They just ask for a "tip" and they show you around and give you a great little history of where, when and who found these prints and what two Dino prints you are seeing. Make sure to say hi to Joe Manywhisters, our guide¡

We were on our way to Monument Valley and saw a sign for this place. We stopped and were given a tour of the dinosaur tracks in the area by a nice elderly Navajo lady. She was very informative and we had a great time. Our group of 4 left a $20 tip. Our friend really liked the hardened Dinosaur poop next to some footprints.

The tour guide is so cool! Do not expect a deep geologic interpretation but he is prepared. My daughter enjoyed the tour. Please leave a tip or buy something. They are very welcoming and nice. Cool stop coming from Horseshoe Bend!

This was an unexpectedly amazing experience! We came here hoping to see maybe one dinosaur track but there were several. Pay for a local guide, they'll so you all the different dino species. Payment is donation based (we gave them $20 for 2 people).
