Black Bear Road is a seasonal dirt path that permits off-road vehicles and descends from a mountain pass. It is regarded as the most challenging trail in North America, but it also poses significant danger. The breathtaking views are remarkable, but only those who are at ease with their vehicle should attempt it. Every year, at least one vehicle falls off the narrow trail, including this season. The switchbacks provide an exciting experience that requires extra attention to detail while driving.
I was privileged to be taken jeeping on Black Bear Road July 2022. My cousin and her husband who took me felt the road was not kept well enough to be safe enough to return again. The scenery was great.

It's a must do. Black Bear Pass is amazing and exhilarating. This is for moderate-skilled off roading Jeepers. Not as scenic as Imogene, but way more difficult.
Bruce Lord — Google review
Whole touted the most difficult trail in North America, it's certainly is the most dangerous. Outstanding views and you do not want to attempt unless you are completely comfortable with your rig. At least one rig goes off every year, and it has already happened this season.
Patrick Dunlop — Google review
This pass is awesome. My son and I rode our dirt bikes from Highway 550 into Telluride. Take heed to the warnings that it is for experts only. Coming from 550 to the summit it isn't that bad and the views are amazing. It's beyond that point heading towards Telluride that is extremely dangerous and Expert only. Turn around and don't do it unless you really know what you are doing, or be sure and tell everyone you love goodbye before you do it.
Darin Cooley — Google review
Great 4 wheel trail that's has some great views and narrow trail.
Michael Kochis — Google review
Is super fun, take your ADHD pills before you head to the switchbacks.
Mike Russon — Google review
Not extremely difficult but potentially very dangerous. Tough parts were the plunge, a very steep section, and the tight switch backs which require backing. Not for the timid or inexperienced

Dennis Weaver Memorial Park, located just outside of Ridgway, Colorado, is a 60-acre wildlife preservation park named after the renowned actor Dennis Weaver. The park offers visitors the opportunity to hike, bike, and admire an impressive bald eagle statue. It serves as a peaceful green space where one can relax amidst the scenic mountainsides and enjoy the serene atmosphere. The park also features a meditation garden and well-maintained trails for visitors to explore.
Beautiful park with river access, picnic tables, a big eagle statue, fun walking trails, and great hiking and biking trails. We really enjoyed the boothill summit and seeing the mountain views. It's a very peaceful and spiritual place. The prayer stone stacks are great. It's truly a little gem, and it's in honor of Dennis Weaver, the actor and wildlife activist.

Beautiful area to hike, picnic, enjoy the river, and casually walk also. It is beautiful year round.

Small but well kept park close to ridgway. Had outdoor musical instrument, truly whimsical, easy walks, get down to the river super easy. Beautiful botanical design.

The crowds this weekend were intense. I literally spent all day trying to find somewhere to have a picnic. Thankfully I found this place. I probably shouldn't even review it because then more people will know about it. However the mosquitoes and deer flies and horse flies were intense. Even with bug spray they ate us alive. I probably got 20 or 30 mosquito bites no joke. It is a beautiful area but I'm not sure what you can do to protect yourself. I have read a combination of oils with the bug spray works better so maybe I will try that in the future. Or a different spray might work I used deep woods. So good luck not getting eaten alive if you come here but it is a really beautiful area with running water that is lovely to enjoy. And I was able to escape the crowds.

One of the highlights of my Wild West 2023 Road Trip! A beautiful, tranquil escape from the chaos of the busy cities and highways. Lots of room to park and explore the trails with amazing sculptures and inspiration.

This was a very beautiful park to visit and ride our bikes through. This park honors a great actor that has made many movies and tv shows that you might remember and some you probably never heard of. Very nice memorial.

It's such a peaceful place. I'm so glad I decided to stop by. I almost kept it going Definitely a must-see quick stop right off the highway.

So good and fun. What nice is this place is close for little walking. I got cancer and can not walk far so being most flat it is good. Walking trails are close and river is soo cool. A good parking too. If you love ❤️ nature then this is a good place to stop and let the kids run around.

Dennis Weaver Memorial Park is a lovely, little, peaceful green space located just outside of Ridgway, Colorado. Named after the famous actor Dennis Weaver, the park is an impeccable tribute to the lifelong commitment that Weaver had to environmental preservation.
The park is a clean and well kept, offering visitors opportunities to enjoy a few tranquil moments. It elegantly serves as both a community space and a celebration of Weaver's life.
The path around the park is adorned with beautiful wildflowers and plants, which attracts a wide range of wildlife, including the friendly squirrels and birds. These features add to the park's relaxing ambiance, enchanting anyone who visits.
Overall, Dennis Weaver Memorial Park is a truly lovely outdoor space near Ridgway, perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful place to take pleasure in nature, trees, and flowers. It's a fitting tribute to the legendary actor Dennis Weaver, who devoted much of his life to advocating environmentalism. It's an excellent place for taking a stroll, finding a spot to meditate or relax while settling one's thoughts amidst the natural surroundings.

This is a cool little park tucked in between Ridgway State Park & the town of Ridgway.
There's a bike path/hiking path that links all of them with Dennis Weaver in the middle. It's a nice quiet, respite to stop at. The Uncompaghre River is super nice too, relaxing. Great picnics, relaxing...
Scenic wilderness area with a reservoir & swimming beach, plus yurt camping & year-round birding.
Ridgeway State Park lies in a dry, scrubby area. Most of the vegetation is typical of what you'd find in the high desert steppe or plains. Plants like: piñon, juniper, bitterbrush, sage, cactus and such dot the landscape. Animals are plenty and we often see cottontail, eagles, deer and occasionally, coyote. We only live 10 minutes away but we love this place. It's typically quiet, easy to get to with easy parking. Trails are simple and parallel the reservoir.
There are three different access areas with camping and one has a boat launch.
Daily fees are reasonable. It's a good place to kill some time while in the area.

We can't wait to come back. We did a couple programs with the kids at night and they enjoyed. Fishing, hiking, parks, and more. Stayed in a few camp sites and all were good, some great. Amazing camp hosts...we miss you already Tom and Peg (and Jerry and Cheryl!). Carrie, who ran the educational programs is a gem. So great.

Beautiful park nestled among the mountains. There is a $10 entrance fee but it’s worth the price of admission. There are nice trails, a swimming beach and boat/watercraft rentals if you don’t have your own. We rented a kayak in the Dallas creek area and spent an hour on the lake taking in the view and the cold water.
Caitlin Rodgers — Google review
It's one of the nicest state parks in Colorado!
Park is surrounded by Ridgway reservoir with stunning views of the Sneffles mountain range to the south and the Cimarron mountain range to the east. You can launch power boats and kayaks at the marina or drive to a 'beach' area to launch or rent a kayak (summer only).
There are plenty of treed camping sites to include electric and water, walk-in tent sites in Elk Ridge campground, and Pa-Co-Chu-Puk campground near the uncompahgre River and 3 yurts in Dakota Terraces campground. Note: This is a VERY popular park, and you need to make reservations months in advance!
Only 6 miles to the small town of Ridgway with great restaurants and access to hiking/biking trails. 10 miles to Ouray, the 'gateway to the San Juans' and also known by locals as "little Switzerland." Fabulous area to explore the great outdoors by hiking, biking, and jeeping and soaking in the hot springs in Ouray. Something for everyone to enjoy!
Photos include one of the yurts in the park. The rest of the photos are from hikes in the surrounding area.

Great spot to pull over and enjoy some fresh air, cool off your feet, take a walk, or enjoy a picnic. Park is well maintained and the lake is pristine. Plenty of picnic tables throughout the park and a couple of restroom facilities. The “wildlife watching” area didn’t turn up much wildlife, but other than that the place was a home run.

It was our first time at this state park and we really like it. Even it was cloudy day and beach was empty we got to swim in the lake, got ice cream and went fishing at the evening (did not anything but still had fun). Campsites are huge. Bathrooms clean.
Easy and convenient dump station.
Bridal Kaleidoscope — Google review
Went paddle boarding and loved this lake! The no wake area is very large, so it’s nice going all over instead of strictly by the shore to avoid speed boaters. You have a gorgeous view of the mountains. Lots of parking spaces right near the shore. It is super dog friendly, which we obviously loved.
Bryanna Hollibaugh — Google review
Great spot with water, electricity and clean warm bathrooms
Given the season, there were only a few other campers in the entire loop.
Some are pull through sites, some have a shade structure, but not all of them
It was very clean and well kept, if you don’t have a account, you need to set one up for reservations because they are done online

Just visited on July 4. A nice park for hiking, water sports, and just simply enjoying a mountain view. There is a river flowing through here and into the lake. If you don't expect a national park-like grandiose scenes, you will be rewarded with some calm and restful surroundings.

Beautiful the weather was perfect for our short visit. New features have been added to the camp sites. The host were very kind and freindly. Unfortunately Ridgeway reservoir was very very low fishing was still good in our party they caught 6 to 8 trout. Definitely a must see state park in Colorado.

What a beautiful and friendly park. This is the first part that I have been at with recycling too. We did the yurt. It has AC and gas heat! Microwave and fridge with plenty of sleeping for 6. The bathrooms are super clean with running water. Firewood is 6 bucks cash only. Dog friendly to yurt.

This is a great state park with so much to do. There's hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, camping, boating, paddle boarding, areas for picnics, and playgrounds. It's a beautiful area year round, and there's a lot of wildlife to be viewed as well. There is a fee to enter, but well worth it.

What a beautiful State Park! Nice trails, the Uncompahgre River running through was beautiful. The main visitor center was filled with information about the park that you could read and any questions you might have the people there would gladly answer. All of them were so friendly and helpful.

A truly beautiful spot. You can take your car right in the dry parts of the lake bed and launch a boat. Dogs are welcome. Also there are covered spots for picnics. There is plenty of space. You won't regret it.

Nicely developed state park. Only 4 stars due to lack of a bike path from CGs to day use beach. Elk Ridge CG loops are nicer, shaded in the trees and have no hwy noise. Also a cell tower is up there on Elk Ridge that does not reach much into Dakota Terraces CG

A new favorite camping spot for our little family! We enjoyed the large pull thru camping pad with electric, plenty of restrooms nearby, many easy trails to hop on and explore, and the lake: wow!!! The lake is just GORGEOUS! Bring your kayaks, paddle boards, peddle boats...whatever 'floats your boat'! The weather is cooler than areas north of it like Grand Junction, but the water was still nice and warm for our early August visit. Definitely recommend!
Dajana Swanson — Google review
Great campground with lots of space between neighbors and the view from the overlook are amazing! The hosts were very sweet and accommodating!
The Ute Indian Museum is a unique establishment dedicated solely to the history and culture of the Ute tribe, who are indigenous to western Colorado. The museum contains an impressive collection of artifacts and ceremonial dress, as well as being situated on the homestead of Uncompahgre Ute chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta.
Great smaller museum telling a history that has been ignored. Recommend a couple hours if you want to watch all videos and read the stories.
K Ga — Google review
Good effort to present the history and life of the Indians. However, not much awareness of the duress these people endured during the western occupation by the colons.
Also, the exhibit is quite crowded, thus a bit confusing. A path with more chronological order would benefit to clarity.
But overall it is to be recommended to visit, and see the outside exhibit as well.
Patrick Hurt — Google review
Small museum with informative videos, and artifacts highlighting Native American history plus gardens outside. There's a hallway filled with woke art but it is easy to skip. The rest of the museum is historically objective. Worth visiting if you are in Montrose.

This Museum is awesome. I have lived around this area for years and I have drove by this place a lot. I never stopped in to see it. My sister in-law had her wedding here and it was a beautiful place for a wedding. The staff was amazing.

It's a wonderful museum, so much to see. There are tv"s where you interact with and are able to watch many different things about the Ute tribe of the history and many of things. Many benches to set and take in the views. Outside was also very interesting and informative. A great museum.

A really fun museum, lots of history. Lots to see and learn about, a great place to bring kids. Definitely recommended stopping by here if you're in the Montrose area or close by.

Interactive exhibits for all ages. A first-person history told through video, science, art, dance, and image.
Grant H-M — Google review
There is much care and beautiful effort put into the displays. The attention to details is magnificent. Even the videos and movies tell great stories that need to be told. Some of them are heart breaking, and yet make you think about the details even more. The education is well worth the price of admission. They even teach classes such as moccasin making, beading, and others.

What an amazing tribute to the Ute tribe. Gorgeous artifacts and displays. The grounds are so well kept and informative. Loved my time there.

One of the best museums I have experienced. I have gone to the new and polished Oklahoma tribal museums and this is more interactive. Really helpful videos throughout and hands on activities such as making beading patterns with glass stones. Worth a stop, even for 30 minutes

It's not huge inside but there are a lot of displays and information crammed into the space. Also, the staff there were extremely helpful. It's also worth checking out some of the things outside.

We really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the Utes— Colorado’s oldest residents. They are the only Indian tribe in the US that never migrated and lived continually on their ancestral lands in CO for over 1000 years until forcibly relocated to southern Utah in the mid 1800s.

I walk with the dog here in the mornings. Its quiet and peaceful. There is a wooden walkway that leads to the Uncompahgre River. I've spotted cranes, geese and ducks on the river. Lots of people like to start river trips from this spot. On the other side of the road is the museum. The architecture is interesting and the museum has informative displays. Children enjoy exploring the many yurts built on the grounds. There is a trail beyond the grounds that lead to Riverbottom and Cerise Park.
This was one of the coolest museums we have ever been to! Our guide was super knowledgeable and Mr. Richard was an amazing person ! He started his collection at 4 years old !! 🤩 😮! We learned about Bob (his story made me cry) and got to see all the artifacts and rooms. My mom even got a visit to the dentist ;). If you’re in Montrose, go visit ! You won’t be disappointed!!

We've gone once a year as we've been able, and there is always something new to see. Knowledgeable and friendly guides, with the option to not take the guided tour as well. This collection is fantastic and you can miss something easily, so multiple trips is really what it takes to get a true appreciation for what's been amassed. Original buildings that have been moved, etc. Great trip for kids and adults alike.

Fascinating to see the collection from one man’s lifetime! Indoor and outdoor exhibits on display. I encourage a guided tour to get the most of your visit to the museum. Enjoyed this stop!!

This was a spur of the moment stop along our road trip. We circled back to see what this place was about and were just in time to join the next tour group. Everyone that worked there just seemed really amazingly friendly. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough! The tour ended up being about 3 hours! And there was still so much to look at but we had to get on the road. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that loves antiques and old buildings. All the buildings are authentic and were carefully refurbished. This whole thing was put together by one man who started his collection of antiques at age 4! The collection is quite large and curated well! It was really enjoyable and we appreciated it a lot! It was well worth the price of admission!

We have traveled this nation extensively and we love to visit museums. This is one of the most extensive and complete collections of Western America we have seen. The buildings, artifacts, knowledgeable and kind guides and learning environment is incredible. Our children were just as enthralled as we were by the wide variety of antiques and history lessons. We are big history buffs, but learned and saw so much! This is a absolute must-see stop! Worth a trip to Montrose simply for this museum alone. We feel lucky we “stumbled” upon it!

Incredibly lovely and vast museum with original collections and buildings (transferred in situ) with well thought through living situations. Lovely staff and all run through donations and the entry fee. Well worth a long stroll!

The Museum of the Mountain West was one of our best stops. We met the owner Richard Fike, who talked to us about how he started collecting items at age 4. He is now 83. His collection of old western artifacts is unbelievable. The tour guide Jim Wendt was an excellent guide. A must see if you're ever near Montrose, Colorado 😁

Hands down one of the best museum experiences I've ever had.
I had to wait for a girl scout troop to clear out before there was anyone around to help me out, but eventually I was able to secure the self-guided tour as I was told the hosted tours are about 2 hours and I didn't know if I wanted to spend that amount of time there after pulling over on a whim.
The owner/founder is a retired archeologist who started collecting at the age of 4 and he has a deep love for western history. I highly encourage everyone to take a trip there and hear him speak before he retires.
From what I was able to hear of the guided tours, the hosts are incredibly knowledgeable and you can tell the entire museum is a labor of love for them.
I will definitely try to make it back next time I'm through the Montrose area.

My Wife and I had a great time here, everyone was extremely nice. The way this Museum is set up really walks you through the times and places of the past. The knowledgeable tour guide (I recommend the all take the tour to get the full experience) introduced us to many facts that were previously unknown. Had a great chat with the owner. He’s been collecting for lots of years and is a very respectable person. We’ll be back for sure. If you’re into the History of the Old West. This is the place for you.

If you’re on the fence about visiting this museum, *definitely* do it, and *definitely* get the guided tour! This was an unexpectedly fantastic and amazing museum! Our family really enjoyed our time here. I would 100% recommend getting the guided tour for a few more dollars - you learn so much more and go in many of the buildings you can’t go in on a self-guided tour. Jim was SO knowledgeable and we went early in the morning (about 8:30/9am on a Wednesday) and ended up having a private tour for about 1.5 hours. Jim knows SO much about everything and had an answer for every single one of our many questions about the artifacts. I thought this was going to be more of a “road side attraction” type place, but it turns out Mr. Fike, the collector/curator of all of the items, is an actual renowned archaeologist and everything is historically accurate and original. It’s like stepping back in time and seeing things exactly how they were in the late 1800s. Plan on spending at least two hours here for the guided tour + time after to walk around and see the additional buildings. If you like to read everything and are interested in history, you might want to spend more time than that - there is a lot of very cool stuff to see (including a hunted house!)

amazing museum. Highly recommend going for the guided tour, we had Jim as our tour guide. Full of knowledge and answered all our questions. We even got to have a chat with the man who started and owns the museum. Much more personable than your usual museums.

The kids really enjoyed being able to go into all the different buildings outdoors, and they had lots of questions about the items on display indoors and out. Even without a tour, they learned plenty and enjoyed the freedom to explore. We adults appreciated the care that went into collecting and arranging the displays both in the surprisingly extensive indoor facades (two little streets worth) and in the historical buildings outdoors, as well as the stories behind the preserved structures. We spent about an hour-and-a-half browsing through local history here. Prices for adults were pretty standard ($15 with tour, $12.50 without), and kids 6-17 were only $5.

Not much of A history buff, but this museum had alot of antiques and I would recommend that you visit this place if you have the chance!!
Lodgelike facility, open year-round, offering maps, a park video & Black Canyon panoramas.
Beautiful and unique sight to behold, it’s hard to see the magnificent and breathtaking
depth that these canyons are, it was an easy walk from the visitor center to a great overlook. There is some informational content in the visitor center. There is no water up here. Outhouse was clean and heated

The visitor center was partially closed due to the delta variant of Covid on 8/3/21. There were Rangers and information outside; limited, masked entry into the gift shop. The Rangers were very helpful despite the challenges. Absolutely stunning and dangerous place to visit as it’s easy to slip on the loose soil/gravel near the edges of the canyon, so be cautious as ppl fall hundreds of feet every year.

Great views from the visitor center. The rangers/park volunteers are super informative and positive. Absolutely one of my favorite National Parks I've had the pleasure to experience. I would 10/10 recommend visiting both the North and South Rims.

The Park Rangers at Black Canyon of the Gunnison are all incredibly kind and helpful. Our car broke down and we coasted into a spot right by the visitors center and were there from about 10a to 4p waiting on a tow truck. Our cell service was nonexistent and they let me use the phone numerous times. At one point a Ranger by the name of Paul brought us some freeze pops since we had been sitting in the heat all day.
While this was not the visit we hoped for, we greatly appreciate the kindness of all the rangers stationed at that location on 9/7/21.
Andy — Google review
As always I checked in at the Visitor Center to get the cultural and geology history to better understand the national park during visit.
Qihua M — Google review
We went to the South Rim with our 40 foot class “A” motorhome and tow vehicle to the south entrance. I would caution anyone traveling there with anything more than a medium class “C”. The road is narrow and access to the Visitor Center doesn’t allow for anything longer. The camping sites are also a limiting factor when there. A better option would be to find a nearby RV campground and use the tow vehicle to get to the center. Beyond this the National Park is as wonderful as the reviews and comments suggest. We highly recommend for a visit for its history, beauty and a hike!
David Hesterly — Google review
The main attraction is the views of the canyon from the trails just outside the visitors center. The parking lot tends to fill up, so we parked at a pull out that was about a half mile from the visitors center and walked along the rim trail to the center. You get many different glances at the gorge, and it is not as crowded as the area right around the visitors center.

5* for the kind gentleman at the park store and the park. 1* for the nasty lady working at the park store at 4 pm on 09/29/23.
The gentleman was very kind and informative. The park is beautifully maintained. The lady working in the store was mean and bitter. I was looking at a shirt, waiting my turn to turn the display while another couple was looking at them. The mean park lady told me to just turn the display. I answered that I didn't want to barge in front of the couple. The couple and I were now uncomfortable. I walked away to look at the books. The mean lady followed and watched me in the store. When the display was free, I turned it to get my size. The mean lady walked over and turned it hard to the extent I had to quickly pull my hand away. Then her phone started ringing pretty loudly. The kind gentleman told her that her phone was ringing. She sarcastically said she was a mediator and that it was one of her clients and that if they called to schedule again, she'd make them wait until November.
I don't know how she got that job at the park, but a nasty, bitter person like her would be fired from the firm from where I'm retired.

Excellent location for this visitor's center! Inside there's the typical ranger's desk complete with maps and all the information you could need; a store; and some fascinating information regarding the geology and history of the park. Just outside there's a picnic table (having it labeled as a picnic area on the park maps is a little misleading) and some benches, and a boardwalk a short distance down to an amazing overlook. There's also 2 separate restroom buildings, so potty opportunities abound here!
For what it's worth, we did just about everything the south rim has to offer (short of going into the canyon) in under 8 hours or so. Kids did the junior ranger program, we hit all the overlooks and did the Warner Point Trail, as well. Did the Rim Rock Trail from here to a little ways past Tomichi Point, but turned around as it was getting dark. Also drove down the East Portal Road and got as close to Crystal Dam as we could. Skipped the Uplands and Oak Flat Trails, but did stick around after dark for a pretty cool astronomy program near the campground.

Nice little vistor center with some interesting facts. If it's a busy day, prepare to park on the main road. They have a nice lookout on the back side of the vistor center that is worth checking out.
Awesome river canyon trail into a beautiful rock garden park. Can make this jaunt any length you like but be sure to bring lots of water as it can get very warm on hot days. Great camping spots near the river and creek, petroglyphs and nice wildflowers in the spring.

Had a blast on this trail. Such a beautiful area, and the petroglyphs were amazing. Sadly people do have to add their own graffiti.

We chose to take the actual trail across the ridge going out vs the RR tracks at the beginning of our hike. The views were really nice from the ridge. I would recommend taking it if it's your first time. We found at least 3 waterfalls before turning back. We ended the hike out by walking along the RR tracks for a total distance of about 6.4 miles RT. The only negative for us was not knowing where the waterfalls and other features were located along the trail.
The public road off US 50W had really bad washboarding, but to be fair we aren't set up for off-road (stock vehicle, stock suspension). Once off the public road, the rest of the way was smoother and, in dry conditions, standard cars should have no problem.
This trail was a pleasant, unplanned side trip. Give it a try if you like walking by the river and finding waterfalls.

Nice trail for a quick walk to stretch your legs or for a day. Great view. We chose for just a leg stretcher.

5-6 horse trailer parking spots. Pit toilet. Narrow road, 1 1/2 lane w drop off sharp blind turns. About 1 mile immediately next to track… potential serious hazard for horses. Long hi bridge over Dominguez River, creaky, enclosed, echoing wood and metal. Have to ride hunched over, my horse is 15.1 I’m 5’5”. Follow along the river and turn R about 1 3/4 miles up the canyon from upper parking lot. Dominguez creek on the L. Can find spots to water the horses. I ride spring/fall as heat can be brutal. Lots of water needed. Big Dominguez goes R and there are towering sandstone walls and petroglyphs here and there. Some people have been defacing them, please be respectful. I did 9 mi round trip 800 ft elevation gain. You can get all the way up to Uncompaghre plateau I understand, but confirm. Some spots cut down to ancient black ?Volcanic rocks. Waterfall hard to see unless you cross creek to other side.
Little Dominguez goes L with little Dominguez creek to the L. About 4 1/2 mi up an old settler was born and lived there for 95y. Old horse drawn implements, his cabin still remains. Please respect and leave artifacts for others to admire the grit and guts it took to survive. 9 mi RT 400 ft elevation gain. His trees all died quickly once he wasn’t there to water them. One fell on his old buckboard. 😭10/7/2022
Remember a personal locater beacon can save your life. Cell service at upper pkg lot.

It's a little over a mile walk along the railroad bed to the foot bridge over the Gunnison River. Once one gets to the Canyon it is beautiful. We came upon the largest cloudy quartz stone I have ever seen, about the size of a basket ball. Amazing. The arid climate and rocky floor support many low growing cactus. Some were in bloom during my visit. Make sure to take plenty of water and sunscreen. Even in the early spring during my visit, it was very hot and dry. This is well off the beaten path and is most suited for those that prefer something a little different. I will do this again in the early winter when it's cooler. Most of the folks that I encountered on our walk were backpacking and appeared to have spent at least one night in the canyon. I am a day hiker only so did not get more than a mile back in the canyon. I recommend for those that are prepared.

Great hike with waterfalls, petroglyphs, mild temps, and not very crowded. Very much enjoy this hike and first one of the season

One of my favorite trails in the area. It’s a hike in hike out route so choose your own distance. Great camping. Great views. Great way to feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere.

This is a great trail. There's an upper and lower parking area. The trail starts at the train tracks and there's a nice dirt road you walk along that later crosses the tracks. It's not shady so I recommend a hat and water bottle. You could probably handle a stroller if you want to put kids in there.
Jenny Morgan — Google review
The drive was pretty going to the trail. Road was a little rough but not that bad. We didn't encounter any passing cars and the trailhead had only three cars there... all local license plates. There are restrooms in the parking lot. The first trailhead had a sign posted saying it's closed so if you go just a bit further down the road you'll come to another parking lot with the actual trail that goes along the train tracks and eventually crosses them. It was too muddy and we didn't want to get too dirty so we turned around early but I'd like to come back.

the charts! They were professional but also extremely personable. Our kids keep

My 14 year old Daughter wanted to go skydiving for Spring Break. We live in North Carolina and contacted Ultimate Skydiving Adventures last week. From our first conversation to her jump on April 5th, everything was perfect and professional. She had one of the greatest experiences of her life and we couldn’t have been any happier with this Company. 5 stars plus. The best. Thanks you. The Pike’s

Man what an amazing experience our daughters had jumping today. You won't find a nicer bunch of folks, and they really know what they're doing. This place drew us to the area from Dallas since our 17 year old can't jump anywhere else, and I am so glad we came. It was an experience they will all remember for the rest of their lives. We will come back.
Thanks so much!

My family has been on a road trip across the country, but this will standout as the Pinnacle of the entire experience. My wife and oldest sons are 9 & 7 were eager and apprehensive to go skydiving. When we arrived that all changed into excitement and enthusiastic thanks largely to the incredible team at ULTIMATE SKYDIVING ADVENTURES. I hope to be back soon with more friends and family to take part in this incredible experience.

Since my daughter was 11 yrs old, she made me promise her that when she turned 18 we would skydive. Today was her 18th birthday. The promise she had me make so many years ago had been forgotten by her. But I didn't forget.
Wow! The only thing that comes to mind is phenomenal! This experience is one of those epic moments in your life. that you never forget!!! Isn't that what it's all about? Creating those memories for our children to always look back on. It was a beautiful day. My daughter and I flew today. What a bonding experience that was! Thanks.Ben. What an awesome time. We're already planning to do our next jump.

The experience was absolutely amazing, extremely helpful and friendly staff. I highly recommend this to everyone. 100% worth every penny. The views are amazing when you're heading up to the jump height and it's just a surreal experience. I can't wait to go again. Just amazing.

Wonderful and safe experience! Thank you to the entire team for an AMAZING time.
We made a week long trip from NY to CO just to take our 3 oldest, 14, 13 and 10 years old, skydiving. As such we reserved our jump about 8 weeks ahead of time and ensured all of our paperwork was in order BEFORE we left NY and also made room for 2 alternate days in case of bad weather. Thankfully the day of the jump was a BEAUTIFUL day.
The office manager Bri was very helpful from my first phone call through a few e-mails to my 4th phone call, she was great. Additionally all of the other staff and other skydivers at the facility were helpful, friendly and encouraging to the kids, high fives and fist bumps abounded.
Ben, the owner and instructor for the kids, was awesome the entire time with the kids. He interacted with them very well from start to finish. Thanks for taking great care of my kids Ben!
The end result is that all 3 kids would JUMP at the opportunity to skydive again, can't ask for more.
Thank you again to the entire USA team!

The Colorado National Monument is a must-see attraction in the Grand Junction area, known for its stunning canyons, red rocks, and sandstone towers. This natural wonder offers picturesque views that cannot be missed. Take your time to explore the vast and beautiful landscape of this monument. On Day 11 of your trip, plan on visiting the Colorado National Monument before driving to Montrose.
Colorado National Monument is a great place to visit if you want to drive an area without needing to do strenuous hikes to capture the beauty of Colorado! There is a drive that lines the park and allows you to capture great shots of the park without having to go away from the car too much. There are tons of pull offs, and this is one of the best places in Colorado to capture a sunrise! I have chased the sunrise across this ridge a number of times and the sun coming over the horizon and hitting the sandstones is amazing to see in person. This park honestly looks like it is a part of Utah or Arizona, but we are lucky enough to have this in Colorado!

Saddlehorn Campsite was amazing! Took a little time to get up the top where the camp site from Fruita, CO, but well worth it.
Only downside: there isn't much shade if you're going to stay during the summer. Make sure to bring your own, but also be aware of the wind that kicks up from time to time.
Cool amenities here include: clean bathrooms, water, and picnic benches.
Highly recommend this place!

A must see if you are in the Grand Valley. There are 2 pay entrances. Switchbacks will take you through the breathtaking landscape with canyons and monoliths that are truly amazing. There are plenty of hiking trails from easy to moderate, check for weather before, and bring plenty of water. There is a campground that fills quickly. Pack it, take it out so others may enjoy this beautiful monument.

I LOVED this place!!! I ended up getting there way later than intended but all the views were absolutely amazing. I did 3 of the short hikes for like 4-5 miles total but I would absolutely go back and do some of the harder ones with more time! The overlooks all provided so many photo ops and I love places like this where I can just sit on a rock and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I couldn’t have asked for a prettier skyline for my pics! Don’t skip this little gem. And the visitor center had lots of interesting info as well so don’t forget to spend a little time in there!

Warning, please read! I was hiking Serpents Trail yesterday 6/30 and parked my car at the parking lot at the bottom, which is also the trailhead for Devil's Kitchen (the first lot once you pass the Grand Junction entrance into the park). I was gone for about 2 hours between 12-2pm and someone broke into my car. They picked the lock on my 2023 Mazda, rummaged through my belongings, and stole my $600 drone as well as my cologne. If you're the thief and you're reading this, I hope you enjoy my $20 cologne and sleep well at night. Please make lots of money reselling my drone. I hope you have fun. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to get a new and more expensive drone; better cologne too! Other than the incident, I truly loved Colorado National Monument. I really thought an area run by the National Park Services would be safer than this...

Most scenic, most spectacular views. In aww at every curve. The 21 mile drive was breath taking to say the least. I wanted to stop every mile or quarter mile. High winds blew in while there. Still managed a little hike. Visitor Center had nice things. Rangers were helpful.

This place was awesome. For the record I don’t think I’ve rated any park less than 5. Spent the morning in the park. Hiked devils kitchen and serpentine trail. It was cool to think they used to take cars up the serpentine trail. Great place to do some trail running. The devils kitchen trail starts out very well marked them goes natural and you’re on your own. It was a great couple hours hiking the two trails. Drove through the rest. Very impressive.

Definitely worth a stop! Decent hiking opportunities but this is one of those national parks/monuments that caters to those who are less mobile. Tons of pull-off and park-to-view spots, good signage describing the landscape, great visitor center, and the pictures do NOT do it justice, go experience it for yourself!

When I was planning a roadtrip of Colorado's national parks and other similar attractions, I came across this. Two parts of me suggested we skip it, thinking maybe it might be too similar to or even less impressive than a place like Canyonlands, which we'd visited two years prior, or that because we'd be stopping by in mid-July, it wouldn't be enjoyable at all, since it's a high desert. I'm glad I ignored those two voices. While we only spent about 3 1/2 hours here, it was well worth the extra 90 minutes of driving on our trip.
We entered at the West/Fruita entrance, and stopped at all but maybe one or two of the overlooks along Rim Rock Drive. Several of the overlooks offer excellent views of unique geological formations; others allow you to just soak in the beauty of the sandstone and the river valley off to the north and east. We also spent about a half hour at the visitor center, as our kids completed the junior ranger program booklets.
If time were less of a factor, I would've liked to take Black Ridge Road out of the park toward Rattlesnake Canyon, as that seems to be a great, short trail to see a couple of amazing arches. And if weather were less of a factor (the temperatures were in the upper 90s the entire afternoon we were there), we almost certainly would've hiked at least a couple of the shorter trails (Coke Ovens, Otto's, Canyon Rim, Window Rock). But it felt like over 100 degrees outside, and just getting in and out of the car and walking a short distance to each overlook was exhausting enough as it was. Maybe another time.
Ultimately, this park deserves to be reclassified as a National Park. My hometown has a "national park" that's way less impressive than this.

This review is for Monument Canyon Loop Trail which was a ~4.5 miles round trip that took ~2.5 hours to complete.
Started the loop by going counterclockwise. A few extremely steep inclines and snow further in. Stunning views of the canyon and rocks! Not a fan of the fence adjacent to the trail near the beginning and the end.
Short video of the hike for those interested! https://youtu.be/-CTPNnfPIlo

Always a Great drive. If you need to take time to get away this is a great drive its easy to get to the price has changed so cost a bit more for trip. Be careful on the roads as bikes seem to like to race down the roads and blind corners you can not always see them. the devils kitchen hike is one of the family's favorite stops for a hike that will take a few hours after stops along the way. Many of the over looks will give you a view of the Mesa or book cliffs. there are many little hiking spots along the out skirts of the park that will give you a shorter hike and great for the small kids to enjoy a bit of exploring.

Located outside of Grand Junction, Colorado, the Colorado National Monument is a unit of the National Park Service that is worth a visit. We spent a few hours driving along the 23-mile Rim Rock Drive, stopping for a couple of short walks along the way. The first stop was for Otto's Trail, which was less than a mile round trip. At the overlook, you have excellent views of canyons and Independence Monument. We then drove to the Upper Monument Canyon to see the Coke Ovens; this walk was a little over a mile round trip. We even saw a big horn sheep crossing the road, so look out for wildlife! There was more to see that we'll have to go back for on another visit. Highly recommended.

This should be a National Park. This Monument is better than most parks and is one of the better sites in the National Park Sytem. The 22 mile drive through is amazing with numerous pull offs and viewpoints. It can be a little scary at spots. There is a good visitor center with epic views. It has trails and a nice campground. All the glory of a National Park with none of the crowds. Just outside of town it is very accessible.

I was fortunate enough to visit the Colorado National Monument and Park back in February and breathtaking isn’t even a strong enough word to describe the beauty! I visited on a bright sunny, hot day. There was no wait at the entrance and the Ranger was super friendly. Most all of the overlooks on Rim Rock Road are only a very short distance from the road. Very weird vibe. Was ignored in Several stores. Never greeted like other customers when entering stores. In a restaurant, not waited on or spoken to for 15 mins. ( It was not slammed & had several wait staff walking around) Even had a couple outwardly aggressive looks. Very unnerving. Later we were informed by a local the history of the town & researched the bronze statutes in the area which explained alot.

I came to Grand Junction to visit a canine friend who moved here last year from Oregon. So I had zero expectations about the town.
Yet I found it delightful, charming, artistic and hip.
The dog (Memphis a boxer) and her human parents and I went to a nighttime farmers market, brews and music festival, and the vibe was all what you would hope for from a middle sized Colorado town. Laid back, family friendly.

SO much local art (there is a specific program name, which I forget). Our local friends took us visitors up and down the main street. We even ran into a bagpipe and Celtic dancers group - best I've ever heard.
I could've used a public restroom or two - I saw the Sign but not the place.
On a weekday evening the parking was easy, convenient and free.
Of course, the art was the best part.

Being there at a cold winters day was most likely different than on a summers day. It was a bit empty as it was cold, but I thing it will be a very nice place on a summers day. At least it was not all done for cars but there were room for walking down the main street.
Hands down the best winery we went to while on our trip. Kenneth Dunn Jr. was the highlight of our trip and he have us some of the best facts and his wine was amazing. We all ended up leaving with a bottle and a smile on our face. Sincere thanks from four girls from Northern Colorado (not Denver). Also give us a call if you make that trip to Argentina and we will come with!

Worse winery we have ever been to, owner was rude and disrespectful. My family of 4 were out for a nice day of wine tasting. Three of us had the tasting at 20 dollars each and my husband ordered a glass of wine for 15 dollars. I offered my husband a sip of my first sample of white wine. He scolded me— asked if I had read the menu?? It says 20 dollars per person. I thought he was kidding and giggled. He sternly said I am not kidding and will charge person!! What? He wasn’t giving me more wine I was sharing. He liked to talk about himself the whole time. My daughter did not like a sample so poured it out in the water pitcher instead of the bucket. He yelled at her saying that was the water pitcher. We were the only people there. He was so upset about it. On top of all this the wine was mediocre at best!! We always buy a few bottles of wine when we do wine tasting but not here. Even if I liked the wine I would not buy anything from him. The atmosphere was awful as well. Unkept landscape. We thought about turning around but gave it the benefit of the doubt.. We were soooo wrong with that decision. Our advise don’t go!!

My sister and I had a FANTASTIC time tasting Hermosa Vineyards’ wonderful wines this afternoon. We were very fortunate to have our wines served by Ken Dunn, Hermosa Vineyard’s extremely personable, enjoyable and witty owner.
Ken had a wealth of information at his “fingertips” about each of the special wines we tasted and he shared his knowledge with us in a very easy-to-understand and “down to earth” way.
Although I usually don’t care for red wines, Hermosa Vineyards’ red wine samples were so delicious. I also really loved the special dry white wine and cherry dessert wine that I tasted.
My sister, who always enjoys red wines, raved about the Hermosa red wines she’d tried. Both of us will definitely savor the four bottles of Hermosa Vineyards’ wine that we bought — 2 red wines, 1 special dry white wine, and a cherry dessert wine.
We had lots of fun talking to Ken and appreciated his hard work and deep commitment to producing great wines, regardless of the adverse affects of climate changes.
My sister and I definitely intend to return to Hermosa Vineyards this coming spring.

Owner was rude. The place does not look very nice and the wine is so expensive when it all tastes the same and tastes VERY cheap mind you. My mother wanted to share a little sip of her tasting of ONE of the wines with my father who was driving and owner threw a tantrum like a child. Very shocking to sit through. Wine was just so boring with nothing good to remember. So many great wineries nearby that you should go to instead.

A beautiful vineyard with a relaxed atmosphere. Kenn is welcoming and knowledgeable and his wine is the best in the valley. You’ll often run into friendly locals who are regulars - always a sign of a great place! Start with a tasting and end with a wonderful experience that includes great conversation and new friends (and maybe even a few bottles of that cherry dessert wine 😉). Hermosa Vineyards is a must-visit when you’re in the Palisade area.

Local favorite! I’ve been to all the wineries and this is always a must when visitors come from out of town. Kenn knows what he’s doing and his knowledge and experience is a great way to learn more about wine making and viticulture. If you’re stopping through or visiting the area Hermosa is a must!! And if you like it BUY IT! Cause he doesn’t go to the festivals or distribute to liquor stores. Quality wine and a great time!!

We stopped by on a hot afternoon after a ton of hiking to relax and cool off for a while. We had the chance to chat with Kenneth and discuss our pasts and the lives that had walked us here. He was very nice and full of wonderful stories. We shared our times of struggles and joys all while he told us about his wines and all the things that go into the production. We really enjoyed the Sweet White and took a bottle home as well. If you are in the area, stop and chat with a great guy and enjoy some amazing wines.

One of my top favorite vineyards in the area. It was a unique experience where Ken (the owner) talked with us through the whole experience. He answered questions and told stories. He was confident and knowledgeable, some could say cocky and arrogant but he is very good at what he does and needs that confidence to be successful. The wine was my favorite out of the several vineyards we visited. We look forward to visiting again.
Wine was great and good prices. They let you bring your own food and your dogs on a leash. Very relaxing nice music in the background. Very very nice friendly staff.

We visited Carlson during the Barrel Into Spring event, and we had the most amazing time with these wonderful people! The wines were diverse and delicious, and several of them were made specifically to raise funds for nonprofit causes. The staff, wine maker, and owner are approachable and kind. This was truly a wonderful winery to visit! We'll definitely be back!
Olivia — Google review
Let me start with their wine still taste as delicious as always… when we finally got our correct flight. However after visiting the winery, this August 2023 I was very disappointed and very concerned about the lack of attention paid to the wine seating area with multiple trees with multiple dead limbs, one tree having a large dead limb that had already broken off and was being held up by the other tree limbs. This is very dangerous to the patrons. Each seating area was not well groomed either. Some seats were right under some of these dead limbs. Other seating areas were uneven and the tables were rocking causing the drinks to top over easily. Moving forward I will be buying my wine at a liquor store and bypassing the winery-too scary for me.

The best wines in Palisade, especially on a hot day. I wanted a bottle of every single wine I tried. I left for other wineries and came right back to Carlson later in the day because nothing else could compare. I was also in love with their two cats, one of which is named “Gunny” (as in Gunnison) and loves scritches. What’s not to adore about this place?

Today was the third time I have been to this winery, so I thought I would make a review! Every time I have come in they have been so welcoming! The wine is absolutely the best in Colorado! Thanks Carlsons!

Wine was great and the atmosphere pleasing. Fall colors surrounded us out in the sipping yard making for a great experience. Amanda was very pleasant and courteous, especially since we showed up toward the end of the day. She sets the stage for what a winery should be like. Not pretentious, just enjoyable. Rest of the staff were nice as well. We'll definitely return.

Always the best time when we visit Carlson Winery. I love their wines and they have an awesome selection for every taste

Great view and place to kick back and drink wine. They have 3 or 4 flights to choose from or you can build your own. Really liked the blushes and the Sweet Red. Pet friendly space as long as your pet is ok with cats. Beautiful scenery on the ride here.
Exhibits include collections of real fossils, a simulated earthquake ride & robotic reconstructions.
It’s a dinosaur museum! A really good one too! If you’re an adult looking to kill some time it’s good for about one hour and you’ll learn something! With kids who knows, you could spend a lot of time in there. That said the best part are the interactive displays, I imagine covid might have taken some of those away unfortunately. Will update!

Honestly this was a really good experience. My 3 year old was kinda scared at first, but she loved it me and my husband had a good time and learning new things about dinosaurs. We were just passing through and it was a nice fun break to have from driving. Would definitely recommend!

My sister and I used to come here as kids and always had a blast learning and seeing all the the dinosaurs and different fossils that are on display. I was able to take my 2 year old (kids under 3 years old get in for free!) daughter and she really enjoyed herself! I was bummed that the place hasn't really been updated in the 20+ years it has been since I was a kid running around. I think it would be nice to have a bit more interactive things to do for little kids, but overall still am happy with our visit. We will continue to keep visiting and learning 🦖🦕

This is such a great museum. They also have a nice gift shop with a wide variety of items from kids toys to kids books, memorabilia, coffee cups and knick knacks.
The museum itself is also great with a mixture of fossil exhibits, skeleton recreations, and animatronics/models.
I love when museums have more interactive type exhibits. There are several trivia questions in the museum where you lift a latch to find out the answer. They also currently have an earthquake simulator you can stand on.
I think any person with a love or interest in dinosaurs, and other extinct species would find enjoyment here.

This dinosaur museum may be small, but is packed with lots of information. It has exhibits about things I've never seen before, like how we can tell if a dinosaur was sick or had a disease. We spent about 1.5 hours here and were able to see most of it. It was a great stop on our roadtrip. Great place to bring young children as well.

I had been trying to visit this museum for about 3 years. 3 years ago pandemic hit and I believe it was officially closed. Finally 3 years later I took my 13 year who liked it but stated "low budget" museum. I don't really know what he meant by it. My 10 year old loved the whole experience and said "thanks dad". I myself loved it and gave me a lot of dinosaur's history here in Colorado. I would recommend it to anybody with younger kids who might enjoy it as well. My 4 year old was handsy with everything. He said, "this is so cool"

This place was very cute. It was small but overall the kids enjoyed it. Very clean museum. The girls at the front desk were lovely. The gift shop was pretty cool. We found a few things to get. Great variety in merchandise and prices.

Wonderful museum. Absolute blast for kids. Lots to learn and see here. Well worth the 23 dollars to get in.

This is a great little museum to spend an afternoon in, especially if you like dinosaurs or have kids! Lots of fossils, some hands on/interactive exhibits, a few live fish, tons of information and photos, and a very cool observation deck that offers a bird's eye view into the paleontologist lab. The gift shop is also very cute and full of very good gifts for the dinosaur lovers in your life--young and old!
Olivia Collison — Google review
Interesting museum. We loved that you could see paleontologists working on fossils in a huge fossil room. They had a few interactive things for kids and lots of dinosaur facts. The size of different hearts compared to dinosaur and human ones was neat. I think we were there for about an hour.

Amazing display of dinosaur artifacts and a few interactive areas. It was a bit with the kids and I had fun too. A must visit in Fruita

It's a small museum, but it's jam-packed with exhibits. There's an excavation sand pit for the little ones and a cool water table area. There's tons of information and a very affordable and entertaining way to spend an afternoon for anyone who likes dinosaurs. There were clean restrooms and a great little gift shop. We got a dinosaur claw replica and a geode we could break on our own. Super fun place for the whole family.

It's good to go learn more about dinosaurs 🦖 but it's lost a few mechanical dinosaurs,it's fun for the little kids! I think they could put a new fish tank in and a little bigger. Make it something more different to look at and give those beautiful fish more room , they are very long fish, maybe give them large tubes of water to swim through to a larger tank and back in there part of the museum and let them have a better life. The long neck dinosaur is so big have to go check it out 😜. Enjoy your visit.

Small and but has a good interactive activities for all age groups. Price was reasonable as well. For sure worth a stop if you are visiting grand junction area.
Kevin Thompson — Google review
A smaller museum, but a lot of good exhibits! I think it might possibly be a little more aimed towards families with smaller children, but a lot of the information is good for adults to read (as in it isn't super dumbed down or obviously written for small children).
Lots of skeletons and bones, plus some models of what some dinosaurs may have looked like in real life. Many things were from the local area, which is really cool to see so many things from this part of the world. There's also a paleontology lab.
There were a few areas for kids to play, or at least interact with things. There was an "earthquake zone" with a shaking pad, which I remember from visiting here as a kid almost 30 years ago. There was also a sand pit the dig up replicas of bones, and a water feature that we couldn't get to work but you were supposed to build a dam with rocks. There's also a dinosaur that growls at you when you push a button.
Honestly one of my favorite parts was the aquarium with the little gar and catfish. Gar are so neat!
We spent a little over an hour here. If you're looking for something to do, have some time to kill, or have little ones, I'd recommend a stop.

This is an excellent museum. Very educational and fun! Plenty of great exhibits. The dinosaur van in the front caught my attention immediately. The admission was very affordable and so is the gift shop. They have a viewing area to watch people working on artifacts. Perfect for children
When I feel like there is nothing else I can see to make me fall deeper in love with Colorado… here comes Azura. Y’all I don’t know why it took me so long to find this piece of heaven. It’s like you travel to Europe, but I take it back Azure can definitely compete with any European winery. The views is absolutely amazing 😻 the tastings are a great deal where you try 4 for $5. Coco is the official mascot and he makes sure to show you around the grounds. Cachi also enjoyed the location. Make sure to add this location to your bucket list. We want to try the other wineries but I am not sure they can beat the view. Also the service is friendly and very helpful.

Tasty wine, INCREDIBLE view! Can't go wrong with $10 for 4 wine samplings (and you get to keep the wine glass), pretty great deal. The winery has a yacht club just a short walk away and it was so much fun. We read about an RC sailboat race and were so pleasantly surprised when they told us we could participate! Jack with the yacht club taught us how to "sail" and we had an absolute blast. Super wonderful place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, would highly recommend!

I absolutely love this place. Views are unworldly, food was top notch, and wine was extremely tasteful. This place really is a slice of Italy in CO. Everyone there is so nice and can tell that it's very family oriented by the way it's run. They have a true passion in the things they do and it shows. I will be back without question.

Absolutely 10/10 experience. The winery is set in the most beautiful location with a spectacular view. There is ample seating, from patio couches, tables overlooking the edge, and waterfront chairs, all of it excellent. We were immediately greeted and the service was superb. The wine was very good and we both found something we liked easily. My only regret is not buying more bottles to take home!
Brianna Staubo — Google review
First of all, approaching the winery was like rolling up to an Italian villa, with beautiful grounds and lush landscaping. The wine tasting was very reasonably priced, with the ability to sample 4 different wines for $10, and even included the glass. They were all very well done, and I honestly liked everything I tried. I settled for the yacht club red for my full glass, and settled down under their pergola patio, which sported incredible views and offered shade as well. We were really impressed with everything, and while we didn’t get food, we came back with 2 bottles of the Yacht Club Red, as it’s only available at the vineyard and not distributed locally. Guess just a good reason to come back! Azura was by far the best vineyard of all the ones we tried in the area and we’d absolutely come back!

First off the staff is very friendly and proud of their establishment. (as they should be) we LOVED the atmosphere and view. This place is classy and well thoughtout. My reason for giving only 4 stars is the lack of snacks. We shared 3 bottles of wine during the several hours there and hoped for a few more food options. This place is still a must... Make the time and come here... Bring snacks and sit back to enjoy the breathtaking sights

We stopped by to taste some of your local wine and spent the afternoon. We had planned on visiting many other wineries around the valley but decided that after we were treated so well at Azura we’d just head back to Crested Butte. Thanks for making it personal and engaging with us on our visit!!!

Very nice outdoor dining in the vineyard with views of Mt. Garfield. We went on hamburger night (Friday). They only make so many so you need a reservation. The peach Bellini was really yummy. The charcuterie was nice.

We didn't care for the wines, the wine slushies or the mojito slushies but the charcutier board was amazing.
The venue is beautiful but the staff was mean to us. We got yelled at to get out of the inside and go sit outside to order... "sorry we didn't know..." Honesty if we were not there on a horse carriage tour we would have left.

The location is beautiful. The charcuterie was delicious. My husband loves wine, I’m more of a beer gal so I got their sweetest wines some of which were not sweet at all and simply not my taste. Service was sub par, hence the 4 stars. Very casual atmosphere.

There are so many wineries in this area. We were late and many of them were either booked or closed. We ended up in Maison La Belle Vie Winery. The atmosphere was awesome. We liked all things we tried the wine flight, burger and roasted caprese.

We enjoyed a romantic evening under the stars. It was 48 degrees outside and they served us under the stars as we watched the moon rise. While everyone else was dinning inside we requested to dine outside. They were not set up to serve outside at night but man did they make it happen.
Our service was out of this world. Kind, humorous, attentive but not hovering. They tended to every need including blankets and heaters to make a memorable birthday celebration by moonlight. True romance. Our wines were paired extremely well and our food was not only delicious but artistic and beautifully plated.
The new owners knocked it out of the park. Thank you for making our evening so memorable.

We absolutely adore this place. Great outside seating. Wonderful food. Their soup in the fall time is a must. And we always take home about 5 bottles. The Syrah is our favorite!! Somehow we always end up here multiple times on our trips. Just a chill relaxing environment. They need some more staff but other than that, no complaints!

Really friendly staff. The vineyard and restaurant are gorgeous, with nice trees and a great view of a Mesa. There is a very friendly garden chicken, and they have umbrellas and misters outside to combat the heat.
These are some of my favorite wines from palisade, the Pinot Noir and Marechal Foch are particularly good. The food is also very tasty, my friends recommended the pork chop with peach and the burger.

One of my favorite places to stop in for lunch when I'm in Palisade. Excellent wine choices. This day was a frozen peach bellini to cool off on a hot summer day. A delicious charcuterie board, warm bread, warm roasted caprese salad.
Last year during the peach festival they had a magnificent dessert made with peaches, cream and a warm flaky confection.
They have lots of seating, shade and cool misters as the temps rise.
Excellent, friendly service here. Best to make reservations...its a popular place!!

I absolutely love Maison La Belle Vie! I have been a tour guide for over seven years. I take guests from all over the world here and they have all had an amazing experience. I love eating lunch in the courtyard. I love our waitresses and wonderful staff. I am impressed with the owners. I have always had great service and the most amazing wines. If you appreciate quality wine made from a winemaker who has two viticulture license that has been making wine for decades, then you will enjoy premium red wine, if not, may I suggest you go to the liquor store and buy some Boonesfarm or some TJ Swan ! They have a true pastry chef on hand with elegant tiramisu and some wonderful macaroons. If you can’t afford wonderful food and relaxing while you’re dining here, may I suggest you go to Taco Bell or McDonald’s. This place is one of my top three places to go while visiting in Palisade if you enjoy , red wine and delicious food.! I absolutely cannot wait to return here tomorrow for Mother’s Day to treat myself to a fabulous lunch and wine. See you guys tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that and next week and the week after that love you to the moon and back I will always support Maison La Belle Vie.

A Captivating Escape to Maison La Belle Vie Winery: A Culinary Delight!
Nestled in the picturesque beauty of Palisades, Colorado, Maison La Belle Vie Winery is an absolute gem that captures the essence of a true wine lover's paradise. From the moment I set foot on the property, I was enchanted by the stunning vineyards, the warm hospitality, and the incredible culinary experiences that awaited me.
The winery's ambiance is nothing short of magical. The sprawling vineyards, with their neatly arranged rows of lush green vines, create a serene and romantic atmosphere. The staff at Maison La Belle Vie were exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable, eager to share their passion for wine and provide a truly unforgettable experience.
But let me tell you about the highlight of my visit—the baked caprese. This culinary masterpiece is a true testament to the skill and creativity of the winery's culinary team. The flavors of the traditional Italian caprese salad were elevated to new heights with their unique twist. The combination of juicy and ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, aromatic basil, and a drizzle of balsamic reduction, all baked to perfection, created a burst of flavors that danced on my palate. It was a symphony of textures and tastes that left me craving for more.
The baked caprese was just one of the many culinary delights that Maison La Belle Vie had to offer. Their menu showcased a range of thoughtfully crafted dishes, each carefully paired with their exquisite wines. Whether it was the delicate seafood dishes or the succulent grilled meats, every bite was a revelation, perfectly complemented by their exceptional wine selection.
Speaking of wines, Maison La Belle Vie boasts an impressive variety of wines, each crafted with precision and dedication. From crisp whites to bold reds, their wines cater to a range of preferences, and the knowledgeable staff was more than happy to guide me through the tasting experience. The quality and complexity of their wines were truly remarkable, showcasing the winery's commitment to excellence.
Beyond the culinary and wine experiences, Maison La Belle Vie also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards and the stunning Palisades landscape. The winery's outdoor seating area, with its cozy and inviting atmosphere, provided the perfect backdrop to enjoy a glass of wine while basking in the natural beauty that surrounded me.
To sum it up, Maison La Belle Vie Winery deserves every accolade it receives. From the moment I arrived until the moment I reluctantly left, I was immersed in a world of wine, gastronomy, and unmatched beauty. The baked caprese, in particular, was a culinary revelation that will forever remain etched in my memory. If you're looking for a truly exceptional wine and dining experience, a visit to Maison La Belle Vie Winery is an absolute must.

What a lovely Valentine’s dinner evening! We went in, gave our name and there was no reservation for us!! I realized that I never actually made the reservation. I was very willing to leave quietly but we weren’t allowed to. Even though they were already full, they sat my husband and I at the bar - creating a space for us. We were treated so wonderfully. I wish I could remember the lady’s name who treated us so well. The food was superb and the wine with each course matched perfectly. Perfect evening! I have already made a reservation for next month. I have a feeling we will be visiting monthly!
Plain quarters in a relaxed ski resort offering a restaurant & a bar, plus ski storage & rentals.
Great, laid back resort that is a hidden gem on the Western Slope. The 2023 snow is amazing and the slopes are empty compared to the bigger resorts to the East. Get out there before the season ends.

A great place to ski in Colorado. Powderhorn has a perfect amount of trails for people who only have limited days to visit compared to other giant ski resorts. However, most black trails aren’t groomed, which limit the options for intermediate-advanced skiers. There are little to no lines and wait times are short. A lot of snowfall in the mountains reduces the need to make artificial snow. The lodge has a microwave. Staff is friendly and welcoming.

Stayed at a Goldenwoods Condo for the better part of the first week of 2022. The condo was decent and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. This place is a great little local ski area. Ditch the crowds and enjoy some of Colorado’s best powder and glades. The rental department can get busy. The line of cars winding up in AM can be annoying. But once there it’s a great little ski area with fun for all levels. Bring a lunch if you don’t want to spend $10 on a cup of chili. They also don’t have shredded cheese. What is chili without cheese?!? Just beans in a bowl!

Great place for camping, fishing, boating, swimming, biking, hiking, and picnics. When we went, they had just treated the lake, so you couldn't fish, swim, boat, or let your dogs near the water. There's a great playground equipment set for the kids and a nice campground. There's something for everyone here!

I wasn't sure what to expect at this Park. I have fished their many times, but never spent the night in Bookcliffs Campground. After spending a few days there at the end of September, I can honestly say that I will make this an ongoing, yearly experience! What a beautiful, mellow, secluded place! It appears to be a local secret, and I can totally see why. There's so much to do considering the activities this lake affords its visitors. Do yourself a favor and visit the website for all the details and options available. There’s something very special about seeing Eagles, Osprey, Blue Heron, Hawks and other birds almost every time I visit this park. And being able to catch Bass in this lake is a blast for the otherwise typical Trout fisherman. The staff in the Park Office and Visitor Center go above and beyond to make sure you are well informed upon your arrival. They can offer and provide you with any information or outdoor essentials you might need during your stay as well. Special thanks to Alan, Leah, Vicky and Sue for their ongoing hospitality! I hope to see you again soon!

As an out-of-stater, we were looking to do some birding in CO. For a $10 entry fee, we hoped to see and photograph new species. Not disappointed! The Western Kingbird on a branch a beak away from the Bald Eagle gave us a great story. The store provided both great souvenirs and an ABA Colorado birding book I had been searching for. I left it with family after our visit--which they ❤️. While it was quite windy, it took nothing from the adventure. The paths (which were very well maintained) are mostly ADA compliant. One can walk; mountain bike the trails, or just enjoy the lake. Learning about the local flora was a bonus. We visited the campground, meeting locals and sharing travel and birding stories. Thanks "Colorful Colorado."

Camping in the off season here is glorious. I have been the only one on site for days. Fabulous trails to hike with your dog - washer/dryer/bathroom and hot showers too. No electrical hook ups but there is access to water. Not bad for $21/night. Note that in addition to the nightly price, you have to either have a daily park pass or annual. It’s also a bird watcher paradise. I’ve seen red tailed hawks, bald eagles and so many owls (keep a close eye on your small dogs). The office is y always open but when it is, the staff is beyond helpful. Got my Colorado State Park pass and will be coming back here again and again!
Grand Mesa is a breathtakingly beautiful mountain with a flat top that offers scenic views of lakes and forests. It is an ideal location for camping, fishing, and hiking activities. We visited Grand Mesa in August of 2023 and I am so glad we did! The weather was perfect.
We stoped and walked along many of the larger lakes (there are over 300 lakes) . We entered from the South 50 to 65 . Visitor center is far in, nearly at top of Mesa first 6 of 12 mile drive was gravel rough road and the drive itself is pretty shaky. The visitor center was nice, the lakes around the visitor center were pretty. Overall nice experience but be prepared for mosquitos in the summer bring a repellent for the mosquitoes.

It is a wonderful place full of beautiful views and great leather for fishing. We love going up for camping in the summer, and it has great trails for cross country skiing in the winter. Our favorite trailhead is county line, it has hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and in the winter wonderful cross country ski trails. Super family friendly!

I'll never travel to Glenwood Springs without this trip planner again
Year-round, 1,830-acre mountain park with hiking paths, boating on a reservoir & lots of wildlife
Amazing lake to fish for trout! Crystal clear water, and amazing views as you fish. They have a nice boat ramp, dock, and parking area as well. Highly recommend fishing, or boating here!

Great ice fishing. Lots of small trout action and an occasional big one!

This park is tucked between the mesas and mountains and has quite a drive to the entrance but it's well worth the voyage.
It's quiet out here. So peaceful you can loose yourself in your hiking or fishing experience.

Very clean restroom and shower in early settlers rv park . Nice hiking trails and dog friendly leash required. The visitor center has lots of information and a gift shop. Make reservations early if traveling on weekends, it fills up fast.

I love this place. It was still quite fun even tho the water level was way below normal. The walking paths and fishing are still wonderful and the camping area was still occupied. We went on a monday and expected not to see many people and the place was packed!

Beautiful drive to get to Vega through Collburn from Grand Junction. The reservoir itself is big. Plenty of water to boat or fish in. Very nice. There are places to park your camper and it is big enough to explore over a few days. This year very green. The weather wasn’t great today to fish, but I did see several people trying to catch some. It does have a Visitor’s Center and like I say, a big lake! Looking forward to coming back to fish. The drive is worth it. Beautiful country!

Beautiful area. Really enjoyed lunch at theodge, which is not part of the state park but it is right there.
Fast and Cool! Such a fun experience! First impression, my daughter said the outhouse smelled really good. Lol. Driver was fun to listen to. Service was exceptional. Kids 6-14 loved it. Jackets fit well and were nice for a rental outfit. Photos they did were done really well. Got wet, went fast, and zipped up some tight sections.

Definitely worth the drive! This company blends a mix of thrills, scenic beauty, and fun history dialog while riding in an awesome boat down the open Colorado river! If you're lucky you may spot several of the local Bald Eagles as they nest right off the river as well as many other wildlife. This was a blast!

Hiking trails & natural springs fed by a waterfall in a mountainous setting, plus cabin lodging.
Stayed here twice on Skiing trips.
Awesome place to return from a day of Skiing.
Multiple pools with varying temps. Cozy cabin with comfortable bed.
Kitchenette in cabin that we used for cooking as well.
Perfect spot to get away from others.

Love this beautiful place. I am so grateful to have it so close to home for a getaway. You just have to plan ahead because it books up! The pools are amazing. We love going for a couple of days to soak and chill. A kitchen is available in the cabin we rent so we can cook our own food. Sometimes, we just bring in sandwiches so we don't have to do anything. The gift shop is charming too

Great experience, went with a friend and I’d never heard of the place before, but I will definitely be returning! Very nice, laid back, hot pools with varying heat, cute cabins and wagons to stay in, and very close to Penny hot Springs as well.

This place is absolutely lovely. We stayed here twice and enjoyed our stay. That said, the reason why I’m rating a 1 star is because they have some farm animals including chickens. The owners of this place feed chickens to their chickens. This was very uncomfortable to see with our 3 year old.

Absolutely love it! The cabin was clean and comfortable, they had everything we needed! Beds were very comfortable, the hot springs were beautiful and relaxing. Check in and check out process was very smooth, we arrived after hours and the instructions left for us left us with no questions. Highly recommend and I will be returning!

This place is what you make of it. We love hot springs and so we stayed in the Covered Wagon to be as close to the pools as possible. It was rain/snow the entire time we were there which seemed to scare people out of the pools so we had them to ourselves. Since the weather was so cool we were able to hop in and out and soak for hours without getting too hot, it was gorgeous and incredibly relaxing. The hosts are very accommodating, I highly recommend staying the night to see some stars. The wagons stay warm and the beds are comfy.

Loved our mountain getaway. Very private. We went with a group with 4 cabins rented total. The one and only downfall was no microwave in our cabin (first world problems). We used the hot Springs multiple times and had such a great time with amazing friends. Thank you for having us! We will be back.

Great cabins and enjoyable outdoor hot springs with views of Mt Sopris. Access to shared facilities in the Lodge, with Table Tennis, ice machine and cooking facilities. Trout fishing in the pond, 100m from the lodges - great for beginners. We caught a 10oz fish, pan-fried for breakfast - delicious.

I was finally able to get a day access to the hotsprings . We went on a snow day but it was really fun and we had an amazing experience. They have 3 pools with different temperatures. Views were really nice too except it was cloudy so it was covering the mountains.
I will definitely go back here and stay at one of cabins.

I had booked a small tiny house for my birthday yesterday. One of the biggest storms this winter rolled in and completely packed in McClure pass. My partner and I live in Paonia and scrambled to get our 4 Wheel Dr car fixed that same day and did thank god.
The storm just got larger and the snow just got deeper, cars were sliding off of the road in the pass.
So we realized driving over would be impossible at that time we were due to go.
I was so excited to celebrate my birthday and finally get a date night with my love.
Instead of working with us because of the storm, which ended up resulting in an avalanche on the pass, they pretty much told us that it’s our fault we weren’t prepared and kept all of our money.
I will never spend a night here or recommend this establishment to anyone.
People warned me about booking here because of the manner they choose to treat customers.
Honestly, super bummed out.

Really enjoyed our stay at Avalanche Ranch. The hot springs are open 24 hours to guests which was great. It was nice to unplug from Internet and cell phones in the cabin but could get wifi in the communal lodge area if needed. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have snowshoes available for free to use on the local trails. The cabin had everything we needed to cook meals. Would definitely return. Highly recommend heading down the road to Propaganda Pie for dinner if you stay at Avalanche Ranch.

Our new favorite hot springs in Colorado. Booked another trip for next year already. Could only be improved with a sauna (*hint hint*). Then we’d be making multiple trips throughout the year.

This place was pure magic. It was November, and we'd take a fairly risky journey from Ohio in an electric car, to do acroyoga here. I've never seen such a wonderful place before. Being from Ohio, that's not surprising. Regardless, this place has been on my list of favorites ever since that visit. We had the fishing cabin, which was super cozy. I wish we would have stayed longer. Looking out the back window over a snowy river and mountain, then sitting in the hot springs all day was just what I needed. I could imagine spending the rest of my life in such a place. Everyone was fantastic as well. It was well worth the trip and I regret nothing. Go sit in the springs in the winter and look out over the snow covered mountains and ponder life for a while. It's good for the soul.

Excellent place to get away from the everyday rush staff is friendly cabins are cozy and the hot springs are just magical. You are about 10 miles from any town so if you don't want to leave to go eat bring something with you to cook as the cabins are furnished with fridges, stoves, and grills. They also sell grass fed beef and lamb at the office and the beef is amazing...

I'm a Colorado native and have never heard of this magical place. We were only there one night and it was the most amazing/enjoyable stay. We will definitely be back! I think we got lucky on the timing because it was absolutely beautiful. Appreciated the little welcome bag with two delicious cookies.

Nice, quiet place to go to.
Water was nice and warm, hard to complain with the snow falling and in a hot spring. Only issue I would say was with the cabin, I wish there was a fan to vent out the smoke when cooking. We made pancakes one day and things got a little hot. I couldn’t vent the smoke out as there isn’t a vent and the loft area filled with smoke and then triggered the smoke alarm. Other than that we enjoyed the grounds and feeding the sheep and picking plums and apples.

Beautiful area in the mountains. We stayed in a wagon with a dog. These wagons are tiny. Common bathroom was clean and warm with updated tile. We had friends staying in a cabin which is much nicer than the wagon. Be sure to bring food & drink if you are staying here as there is very little nearby.

Sunlight Mountain Resort offers a variety of winter activities including snowmobile tours, cross-country skiing and access to 67 trails. During the summer months, visitors can enjoy hiking and biking. The staff at the resort are known for being very friendly and helpful, particularly those working in the rental area. Children's ski school is also available with instructors who take pride in teaching young ones how to ski. Visitors with little experience are able to learn more about skiing and enjoy it over multiple days.
Love Sunlight ski resort! We were staying in Aspen but heard such good things about Sunlight we decided to try them out. The price for all things was on point and us being somewhat beginner skiers we wanted something affordable. Right from the start when renting out gear the staff was amazing. They joked and had fun with our whole family and made us feel comfortable as soon as we walked in the door. The staff all around was helpful and friendly. Plenty of seating inside and out. I loved how the locals and the visitor's we're pretty much ready to talk or lend a helping hand when me or my son fell. My husband hung out on deck watching and chatting with the friendlies. The last run of the day I fell wrong and hurt my wrist, hip and knee so had my son go get help since I wasn't able to make it back down the hill. Bobby came to my rescue and helped me onto the sled and safely down the mountain. We will for sure be back and this time we'll stay and play here at Sunlight and highly recommend.

The lifts are old and slow, but no one seems to mind since you will wait in line for it for 0 minutes usually. The runs are fabulous and totally unique vs other places in Colorado. The lift tickets are also relatively cheap. This is the best place to avoid a crowd and have the mountain to yourself.
Laura Stewart — Google review
Sunlight is a beautiful gem! Has all the views and great CO snow but isn't crowded. The lifts are definitely a little ancient but our family had a blast at this resort. Everyone is so nice! Has runs for everyone! We stayed at the Gnarly Inn at the bottom which is an experience in itself. About 20 min from Glenwood Springs.

Very friendly staff! Guys at the rental area very helpful, my best experience with ski resort! I loved the experience and definitely will come back! I can tell staff in kids school enjoy teaching kids skiing! It was nice to see how they worked with them. Overall great experience for a person with very little experience like me. I was able to learn more and enjoy skiing both days, i even went on the top on the mountain!! Views are breathtaking!!!

A great "locals" ski resort! My son and I took ski lessons which were fun and exhausting. We were placed in a large group but the four instructors kept it fun and real. From the lesson window, rental store, to the lifts , the staff were helpful and smiling. The place is off the beaten path and the parking lots filled up pretty quick. There are enough slopes that it seemed like the runs were fairly empty. The lines moved quickly if there were any. Family friendly, Awesome staff everywhere and great environment overall. The prices were cheaper than the Fancy resorts nearby. If you enjoy skiing or snowboarding and not needing the frills of stores at the base then this place is a must experience.
Larry Griffis — Google review
I can't say enough great things about this resort. It has everything a skiing-loving person could want, but in a low key, laid back, family friendly way. And perhaps more important, it's as opposite from the big corporate Colorado resorts as possible. It's exactly perfect the way it is. No lines, no selling your kidney for a lift ticket... just skiing on a beautiful mountain. The varied terrain is amazing and has as many challenges as one could want while skiing in the most beautiful of mountain scenery. Along with challenging terrain it has equally relaxing, pure fun, long green runs that take you though the easy route of those incredible mountains. Most importantly, did I mention there were no lift lines?

Me & my significant other went to snowmobile here. We went for the longer trip (2.5hrs). It was an amazing experience. It was our first time trying. The instructors were very kind & very very helpful. They made it 10x better to be honest. Views were absolutely astonishing. The snowmobiles are very fun & fast as well.

Fun times to be had here for sure but be warned that it is particularly tricky in many places to have sufficient momentum to make it up the rolling hills that many trails take you through. I had to take my bindings off and walk in several places, several times at this resort. Still had a great day and will definitely come back
Drew Lynes — Google review
My son and I had a wonderful time. Great location for families with tiny skiers and boarders.
Weather: Beautiful sunny day in the high 30s.
Things we enjoyed were reasonable ticket prices, great food and beer at reasonable prices, and fun slopes. I really enjoyed the tuna melt and zucchini Fries. For me the zucchini fries were a new thing that I enjoyed with a good beer. Slopes have slow ski lifts but I personally did not find this to be an issue as it gave skiers plenty of room to ski.
I personally found this location great because the slopes all lead to the restaurant where I can take a break and keep an eye on the kids.
We stayed at Glenwood and really enjoyed the hot springs after a day of skiing.
Ian — Google review
I give this resort 4.5 stars! It would receive 5 stars if the kids in the rental shop were a little better trained. This resort shined in other areas though! First, it's very uncrowded and has some great long runs. The lifts were not the greatest but so many times I would look ahead and behind me on a run and...I was the only one there. The staff was super friendly, from the lift attendants to the lodge cafe workers to Bill in the locker office. The food was great and reasonably priced compared to other resorts.
We did not have great snow unfortunately and there were some icy patches but did I mention that I had the mountain to myself many times? I improved so much. We put a 13 year old in ski lessons the first morning and not only were they super reasonable, she graduated to blues by the second day.
We visited NYE weekend. The first day we arrived at 8.30 and parked right in front of the entrance. Second day we arrived at almost 10 and had a 1 or 2 minute walk. We used our Indy passes and it was super easy. Just show them at the lift ticket window in exchange for lift tickets. Only once was the beginner lift busy. Again, the lifts could themselves could be better (my boots and skis felt like 500 pound weights without foot rests) but if you want wide open spaces to ski, this is the place!
Justine Vild — Google review
Fantastic IndyPass resort, nice long greens, fast blues, and nice expert terrain. Yes, very slow lifts but 0 lift lines and affordable food and drinks. The parking lot could be paved but really nothing to complain about. We decided to try this place on a whim and definitely worth the drive. We'll be back for sure.
Phil Leotardo — Google review
I love Sunlight Mountain. It's not crowded, reasonably priced, and has varied terrain. Most of the time I go on ski trips, this is where I travel to. The nearby town of Glenwood Springs is lovely and a great place to stay. Food on the mountain is good and not as expensive as one might expect. Only drawback is they removed the ski lockers and now you have to take them home nightly.

Great variety for a pretty small ski resort! Eastern ridge is ungroomed and pretty rough/ challenging. But the western side blues are fantastic, and the greens aren't too flat. Beautiful view of Sopris Mountain.
Camping, fishing & boating, plus windsurfing & jet-skiing, on a long, narrow reservoir in a park.
This is a nice little lake with plenty of picnic and camping areas. There were several boats and a few jet skis out on the water. We didn't stay too long but did try to fish a little. We didn't catch anything but it was still fun.

Camped here in late October, after leaving Rifle Falls. Nice to have a dump station here since the falls campsite did not. Other than the camp host we were the only people camping in the park. The lake was beautiful but crazy low, like 30-50 feet low. Boat ramp was closed. Hot showers (fee required) are available and the bathrooms were super clean. We stayed in the Cedar campground with power hookups only. Cell service for us (Verizon) was zero at the camp site. Note the main office has a Verizon booster that syncs up if you are near the building for a few minutes. Deer came through the camp which was cool. Overall, great campsite just wish the water level was higher.

This place is absolutely incredible! The cleanliness and impeccable maintenance of the sites, along with the convenience of full hook-ups, make it a top-notch destination. The spaciousness of each site ensures ample privacy, allowing you to fully unwind. The stunning view adds another layer of beauty to the experience. Additionally, the reliable Starlink connection is a major plus, keeping you connected even in such a serene environment.
There's never a dull moment here, with plenty of activities to choose from. Whether you're into invigorating hikes, thrilling water sports, or simply indulging in relaxation while savoring the breathtaking view, this place has it all. The sunsets are truly awe-inspiring and will leave you breathless.
While there are a few minor challenges to consider, they are easily manageable. The occasional strong winds warrant some caution when it comes to keeping your awning secure, ensuring a worry-free stay. It's worth noting that the cell service can be a bit unreliable at times, but with such a remarkable setting, it presents an opportunity to disconnect and embrace the tranquility.

Very nice State Park campground with a beautiful view of Rifle Gap and the reservoir. We stayed in Cedar Loop site 69 which is the highest site in that loop and had a decent view of the lake and was set off kind of by itself. We had a doe and her fawn make their way through the back of our site several times on their way to the lake and back. We only stayed one night on our way home from Utah but I would highly recommend this campground. The bathrooms were clean with pay showers, $1 for four minutes. Bonus feature was the covered picnic table in each site, which is a feature I don’t believe I have ever saw in any campground.

Rifle Gap State Park and the reservoir are a delightful place to visit.
There are numerous vantage points to view the water and mountains by car, a cool trail that circles the water, and of course access to the reservoir for boats.
The water was beautiful and high, though I heard it was low for a while due to drought. Many people were fishing, so I assume it's a good spot for that though I didn't have any gear along.
Definitely worth the short drive from town.

Beautiful State Park in Rifle not very far from Rifle Falls. It would make a beautiful picnic and swim Beach experience. Great place for family to hang out. Your park pass is $10 make sure you take cash if the park ranger is not there. They have bathrooms and tables in a shaded area . I wish I had more time to explore this place. Next time I go I'm going to spend more time here.

We decided not to stay in rifle gap State park because we found a road from the park into the BLM land at the top of one of their RV parks. From there you opened the gate and drove through a wilderness area and then you had access to the BLM land. The road was extremely rough, however our four-wheel drive Sprinter 170 wheelbase van made it up and we found a beautiful campsite with a view of the reservoir and mountains below. There was no one else up there just us. There were many campsites with fire rings to choose from on the way up.

We stayed here in early March at 006 in Cottonwood and it was great! It was a little cold as we were tent camping and it dropped below freezing, so the warm bathrooms were greatly appreciated. They were very clean, had hot (!) running water, and warm heaters! The showers were also functional.

We had a beautiful and very clean campground in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed swimming and kayaking in the lake. We enjoyed geocaching. Love that the island in the middle of the lake has picnic tables and wish we knew beforehand so we could have planned a picnic meal on the island. We happened to be camping here during a meteor shower on a clear night. We were treated to quite the show. It is so dark at Rifle Gap, (though not a certified dark sky) that my partner and I both experienced phenomena we have never experienced before such as the stars twinkling , and stars appearing to move around in place. We looked up that this happens in darker places as the atmosphere scrambles the light from the star. We also saw very bright streaks of shooting stars and very big shooting starts. The pinion loop is a great place for star gazing, will never forget our experience camping at rifle gap.
Doc Holliday's Grave Trail head - Certainly NOT a climb for those who need help or out of shape (kinda-sorta). This takes a bit to get there.. Advice - Don't wear flip flops, you won't make the climb with a stroller and MOST certainly take your time. Of course you can stop and rest AND catch your breath. This is an elevation of 6000+ feet (Welcome to Colorado) already. This climb is about 1/2 mile higher.
We completed this trek during July and the weather was 72 degrees and sunny.
The road to the top starts off nice and easy with an entrance that is maintained very well (Don't be fooled). As you start to ascend the road turns to gravel and sand. The trail is about 20 foot wide in most cases and there are some stairs and a few obstacles to overcome, nothing hard.
There is a tree of shame about 1/2 way up. (For those who wanted to leave a ribbon, or something that marked "I was here")
Once you reach the top, you're offered a few ways to get into the actual graveyard. In our experience, we continued to the last entrance and proved to be a good choice.
Now the reading and exploring begins. We spent about an hour going through each site and staying on the well marked paths. MOST of the sites are marked off and fenced so be respectful of the barriers.
Going down is certainly a LOT EASIER than going up but be careful not to twist your ankle on the rocks and loose sand.
In either direction, the views of the surrounding Gypsum mountains and community was very nice.

GHOST TOUR put on by the Historic Society during spooky season is top notch. They lead you up after dark (bring a flashlight) and you stop at a few grave sites where actors dressed in historic garb tell the story of their life before being buried there. It's a great time! Tickets on the historic society website, fun for all ages, cider and treats at the end!

Such an interesting cemetery. Short little hike but definitely worth it! So old and full of history! Must see in Glenwood! The hike takes about twenty minutes and there is a bunch a shaded area to stop on the way... I like that it’s tucked up in a neighborhood so you can check out old houses too!
Kay West — Google review
Very very short hike but it's right up the mountain and has AMAZING views of Glenwood Springs the entire way. We met a very friendly trail cat, clearly he belonged to someone local because he was well fed and clean. Not too sure what the tree of ribbons is about but it adds some color to the trail. The cemetery is extremely overgrown and old. Doc is buried somewhere there but no one is sure where.
Korrine Rudderow — Google review
A somewhat steep hike takes you up to the Linwood cemetery, with breathtaking vistas of Glennwood Springs and valley. The cemetery is small but old for the US and a great example of frontier burial grounds. The star of the show is Doc Holliday's grave marker - while they don't really know where he is burried and it's actually more likely that he would have been placed in the Potter's field as he died indigent. Great for dogs and kids - as long as they don't throw rocks!
Brian East — Google review
A bit of a climb, nothing too bad. Super interesting cemetery. I wish we had more time to explore it. Besides Doc Holliday, I bet there are some interesting stories that go with the people buried here.
jkd — Google review
It was a gorgeous day for a hike and the views over the valley are breathtaking. The trail is about 1/3 of a mile at a steep incline. You will go up about 220' or so in altitude. So consider that is about like climbing the stairs of a 22 story building. Totally worth it though. Don't just stop at the markers for the two famous people buried there, there are some amazing other headstones in the cemetery that are worth looking at. Headstones are a work of art!
You should know that there is only one bench about 3/4 up the trail. So if you need to sit, it is not really great for you. The trail could be a little better developed (but the cemetery is really just run on donations) and that is the reason I gave it only one star. Also, a few of the headstones are literally overgrown and could use some attention.
Do yourself, and Linwood Cemetery, a favor and donate at the donation box on top of the hill. This place is a treasure and should be maintained for future generations.
Bryan Nowak — Google review
This cemetery is up a mountainside. Check out the wooden wagon hearse in front of the Frontier Historical Museum and then imagine that thing cranking up the mountain. You KNOW a coffin came sliding off at some point. There has to be some microfiche newspaper article out there somewhere about the wagon breaking a wheel or hitting a rock and a coffin goes bouncing off the back. Anyway, this was a really interesting old west cemetery that includes Doc Holliday and Kid Curry. Well worth the mild hike, with beautiful valley vistas and further hiking opportunities up behind the cemetery.
Doc Holliday's Grave Trailhead is in the Linwood Cemetery, just outside of Glenwood Springs. This short but moderately challenging hike leads up to a grave marker where visitors can leave a memento in honor of the legendary gunslinger. There's also a nice view of the cityscape from the top.
Beautiful and peaceful walk around history.
I would not recommend pushing a stroller up to the cemetery, you have a pretty big hill in the beginning of the walk and then the paths around the head stones are pretty narrow.
* I would also recommend bring a piece of ribbon with you to put on the ribbon tree! *

I really enjoyed visiting this historical site. It is a bit of a hike so prep for that. The trail is nice but made of dirt and gravel and is quite steep too. Also, we went in the middle of summer when it was super hot and sunny and I wished I had brought water and a hat.
Nevertheless, it's definitely worth the effort. There are plenty of great views of the city and it's just really cool to see this gravemarker and read about this historical figure. Don't miss out on visiting Kid Curry's grave nearby.

This was an absolute blast, about a half mile hike up hill. Definitely recommend proper footwear, no sandals or flip flops. Take some water. There is a bench about halfway up. Lots of spots to take pics of Glenwood Springs. I love history so seeing this was awesome. After coming back down there is a western shop on the corner of 8th and Grand . This is the spot that Doc had passed away.

It was a 1/2 mile up. Be prepared for loose rocks, gravel, and debris to maneuver around. His grave is located in the far corner of the cemetery. It's an old cemetery with lots of interesting gravestones to visit.

This is a great piece of history BUT definitely not something to do during the winter with snow and ice on the ground. The trail can be a bit steep and slippery. A rope to steady yourself would be nice.
That said, the cemetery has some interesting markers and information about Doc Holiday and Glenwood Springs plus the view is very interesting. It is definitely worth seeing if Tombstone is your favorite movie or if you have an interest in western US history.

Such a great piece of history! Easy hike and the views are beautiful. If you are in Glenwood Springs, take 30 minutes to go see Doc Holidays grave.

Great short hike. Good for some casual High intensity training if you are on the front end of a new diet of fitness routine. Great views and just really cool and Interesting Walking around an old historic cemetery.

When in the area, it's worth taking a trip to check out the old cemetery. Doc Holliday and Kid Curry are buried here with headstones. A good view from the top of Glenwood Springs. The hike is a dirt trail that is moderately difficult due to its steepness, but still easy enough to do.

Was a nice hike. About 1/2 mile or so mostly uphill. Little tricky with snow and mud but overall wonderful and very scenic! Parking is the only real trick
Nick Adkins — Google review
A nice hike above the city of Glenwood Springs. The view is worth it. The city has no idea where the Doc is buried. So they just placed a memorial. They know he is in the grave yard though. Kid Curry is also here. His stone was placed in 2009 so it looks new still.

I recently embarked on a hike that led me to the final resting place of the legendary Doc Holiday, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience that deserves nothing less than a five-star rating!
The trail itself was captivating, offering a scenic journey through nature’s beauty. As I made my way along the path, I was surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and awe-inspiring views. The hike provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and appreciate the serenity of the surroundings.
Reaching Doc Holiday’s grave was a truly special moment. Standing before the resting place of a historical figure with such a colorful past was both humbling and fascinating. The grave served as a poignant reminder of the legacy left behind by this legendary figure, and it sparked a sense of curiosity and reverence within me.
The hike to the grave was well-marked and easily navigable, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. The trail offered a moderate challenge, making it accessible to hikers of various skill levels. It was a rewarding journey that combined physical activity with historical exploration.
While the grave itself holds significance, the entire hike provided an immersive experience. The trail allowed me to connect with the natural surroundings and immerse myself in the history and lore associated with Doc Holiday. It was a truly memorable adventure that left a lasting impression.
If you have an appreciation for history, nature, and a touch of adventure, I highly recommend embarking on this hike to Doc Holiday’s grave. It offers a unique and enriching experience that combines the beauty of the outdoors with a glimpse into the past. Five stars without a doubt!

A lovely little hike before we headed out of town. It's a short and relatively easy hike up about a quarter mile hill. Beautiful views of Glenwood springs are all along the way. The graveyard is full of tombstones from the mid to late 1800s and some early 1900s. Doc holidays tombstone is just representational as they're not sure exactly where in the graveyard he is. A very nice experience.
James Roberts — Google review
The trek up is a steep, challenging 1/2 mile hike or so. If you are out of shape, have bad knees and trouble breathing. This may not be for you. The whole time walking up this step climb, I couldn't help but wonder how they got most of the bodies to the cemetery 🪦 at the top? Clearly had to be done by horse drawn carriage back in the day.
You come across a tree about halfway up that has cowboy red bandanas attached to a tree in different colors. Visitors have left everything from hair ties to their trail shoes hanging.
Just after the tree on the next bend, you can see cracks in the walkway that looks as if it was to break away, maybe inaccessible in a few years. Saw a couple of spots just off the cliff that were questionable.
Once you see the first tombstone off to the right, you think you made it and that's it? It is NOT. The signs directing you to Docs grave are a little hard to find. You must keep a look out. Upon the first grave, go to the left and look for the flagpole with the American flag (which should be retired by the way and a new one installed).
After Doc Holiday battles with tuberculosis, he came to Glenwood Springs in hopes that the hot springs would cure him as they were known for their healing factors. He was only there for a few months before his condition deteriorated and eventually died. He died in a hotel which was burned down and then rebuilt and now stands a Western store.
Holiday died a penniless man and a local business man collected money to fund his burial and memorial.

Short, steep hike to Doc Holiday's grave, not really where he's buried, Kid Curry's grave, and the potter's field. It's a dog friendly area that is full of history. It's a beautiful cemetery with some really interesting tombstones. It gets so hot, bring water, be respectful, and take care of this for the next generation.

The old cemetery, Little bit of a hike to get up to it Great view of the adventure park on top of the mountain when you're up there. They have a nice guided tour of the headstones. Be sure to go to the History museum downtown and pick up a brochure of notable people buried in the cemetery. In the fall it sounds like they do a ghost trail that would be interesting to go see.
Z Harris — Google review
Pretty steep 'hike' up, but worth it for the views and the history.
Sarah Paul — Google review
I enjoyed the hike up the trail to his grave. It's not his grave grave. They are not 100% sure where exactly he's buried. It's a bit steep in some areas, and it's maybe a 20-minute track to get there. Take water with you and rest if needed. There is a bench along the way. This is a cemetery with many interesting older tombstones. It's worth the hike and seeing the grave dedicated to him.
Eve White — Google review
The absolute best views of Glenwood Springs, in my opinion. Came in Winter and had the entire trail and cemetery to myself.

Wonderful experience. I didn't think it would be where it was in town, closer than I thought. The hike up is short but has an incline. Very peaceful and beautiful.

It’s really interesting how people end up in this place. Doc Holiday’s history is very interesting and I learn more about other westerners who was buried in this area. Must visit if you come in Glenwood easy to find and short hike.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is a family amusement park located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado that features a variety of activities such as cave tours and rides. The park is known for its alpine coaster, zip line, and theater with moving seats.
Sooooo fun! We had a blast! The view is amazing! There weren’t any lines to wait in and the staff were so kind! We had Becca as a tour guide through one of the caves and it was a great tour! She was funny and very knowledgeable about all of the tour!

Great unique experience. Small mountain top adventure and thrill ride park. The thrill rides were so fun. Cave tours nice and the staff guides were so knowledgeable and engaging. Resturant reasonable, food good, views excellent. Small size of the park made it perfect for a relaxed day. Lines were not terrible. Good stop for sure.

We travel all over the country visiting as many amusement and theme parks as we can. This park has been a bucket list for us and it exceeded our high expectations.
We went on a perfect early summer weekday. It was a little busy and allow a lot of time to get through the process of ticketing and getting up the mountain. We bought our tickets online, but there was still a long wait to sign waivers and get on board a gondola.
Once up top, you are greeted by amazing views everywhere you look. Alpine Coaster is the main draw and the lines were long. Your experience on the coaster will depend on who is going down the hill in front of you. If you like speed and adrenaline, you’ll probably come up on someone going slow.
The other long wait for us was the giant canyon swing, but totally worth it. Ride it twice, one trip on each side as they both offer completely different experiences.
The food and drink was great, with a restaurant kind of hidden behind the gift shop that offers great views while you eat.
One thing that stood out was how friendly and eager the park staff were towards the guests. It really made for a delightful experience.
We hope to come back someday, because the park must have a different look and feel as the seasons change and it would be nice to experience more!

This park was a great deal of fun even in winter. The two cave tours were very interesting and had great guides each time with cheesy jokes that made it fun. The gondola ride to the top was smooth and without incident. The Alpine Coaster was very fun and rather fast. Great little restaurant and gift shop. Laser tag was also very fun. Altogether the staff was very friendly and helpful and made time spent enjoyable. Greatly encourage a visit for singles, couples, group events and couples with kids over ten (height restrictions limit some of the rides and the cave tours might get a bit overwhelming for younger children).

This place is a ton of fun. It starts with a gondola ride up a mountain to the park. From there you can venture to the caves which is a neat experience. Get the funnel cake fries with apples and ice cream. Super yum! There is the Alpine coaster which my 3 year old loved. We went the week before Christmas. I do not recommend this as 80% of the attractions are closed. Although this does mean you have a very small crowd so there is not much of a line for what little is open. We will come back during summer to check everything out.
Steven Cody — Google review
It was about $300 for a family of 8, it was super fun! I recommend going on a week day because the weekends would be more crowded. We didn’t stand in line for more than 15 minuets for rides. Make sure to go with kiddos that are 6+ years old or it’s not as fun. The food is reasonably priced and the ride up is super fun! We saw the caves and that was super cool too, tour guide Shae was awesome! Make sure to check out the mountain side swing ride with Thomas because he’s a great instructor for your first crazy ride! Overall a 10/10 experience!

This place is amazing. What else can you ask for?? Roller coasters on a mountain?! Dope. Would be nice if they had vegetarian/vegan options and a couple rides were closed. Otherwise, I can’t wait to come back here with my whole family. Caves were great, the coaster is SO FUN, and the tree swing is my favorite ride ever.

Always a crowd-pleaser--visited with an extended family group with ages ranging from 2-70. Everyone had a great time with lots of options for the elementary-aged kids, the grandparents, and more challenging attractions for the group in their 20's. After our gondola ride up, we all enjoyed several trips on the Alpine Coaster--always a thrill! The 20's -30's group set off for a previously scheduled "Wild Tour" while the over 60+ group stayed with the kids. We alternated between the 2 caves tours--always informative & engaging as they are led by guides who truly love what they do--and a multitude of age-appropriate attractions for the kids, including laser tag, fossil digging, both smaller roller coasters, a small Ferris wheel and pictures with the trolls after a troll hunt. It was so nice to be able to say "yes" to everything the kids wanted to do with a Fun Day pass. After we reunited with the Wild Tour group, we had plenty of time to explore the Canyon Swing, Defiance, Crystal Tower and the Tree Swings together. The staff is always attentive and friendly and the park is just the right size to explore fully in a day. Even the rest stops in the central plaza were pleasant with live music, convenient restrooms, water bottle refill stations and sunblock. Highly recommended that you spend a day here. You won't regret it!

We have vacationed in different parts of Colorado a few times over the years, but this was far and away my favorite thing that we have done while there. Such a neat experience. The rollercoasters were fun, the restaurant was great, the cave tours were a relaxing way to get out of the heat for a little while, and the staff were all so friendly. We did go during the week so that may play into it a little bit, but the waits were not bad at all, the most that we had to wait was for the mountain coaster and even that was only around 20 minutes. Even just the gondola ride up to the top is a fun experience. We will definitely be back.

This place was amazing! Both adults and kids loved it. We spent most of the day here - lines got a little longer in afternoon, but nothing terrible. Cave tours were very interesting and neat to see. Highly recommend this place! Not many pictures as we had phones locked away in handy lockers available at park.
Kathy Chabot — Google review
I had a fantastic visit here! Buy tickets ahead of time - get there when they open (or before!) and ride the coaster and the zip line first, before the crowds arrive! The coaster isn't much fun when you're slowed down by all the people in front of you.
The proper roller coaster here - the cliffhanger - isn't much to shout about - it feels like it's about to fall apart any minute. I enjoyed more the swings, the giant swing, and the cave tours. The drop tower is definitely the most thrilling/scary - it all happens a lot faster than you would think. The weirdest thing about the park's rides in general is the overall lack of anything to hold on to to make you feel more secure. The zip line, the drop ride, overall - you have a lap belt and nothing more. I guess that adds to the thrills?
I really did enjoy the cave tours a lot - King's Row is smaller and on a holiday weekend or anytime it's extra busy, it's self guided. But if you show up early or on a less crowded day, you get a guided tour. The larger system, the Fairy Caves, is always a 40 minute guided tour and it was the highlight of the day - super fun.

This was even better than I imagined it would be! To be honest, I thought the price seemed a little steep for what I expected to find. We ended up loving it so much we went twice. The views are incredible, the caves are gorgeous and have great guides, and the rides are SO fun! A perfect day of fun for the family. Get there early before it heats up, the lines are shorter too!

We had a nice time at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. We just bought tickets to the caverns and Gondola. The caves are big and there are 2 different ones to go into. There are lots of rides up top. Definitely a fun time. You can add rides to your ticket if you decide to do it once you are up top.

Great little adventure park! A few big rides, some which really get adrenaline going.
The crystal cavern drop was intense. Their new coaster drops you straight down before whipping around with amazing views of Glenwood Springs below.
Stopped by the restaurant for a break and food. The staff was awesome.
Happened to see a fire on the way down. A little scary, but seemed to have been taken care of.
Grant Mellor — Google review
Came here during the week in Summer. Arrived around 2p, so many from the morning crowd was already gone. It was still plenty of time to ride all the rides.
After buying tickets at the bottom, you ride the gondola up to the main entrance. It's a small park, but there's a lot of fun rides for every age group or level of adventure. Lines weren't long at all, with most rides having no line at all. The longest wait was about 30 minutes for the Alpine Coaster which was my favorite ride. The coasters didn't have any lines. The Giant Swing was about 10 minutes and was my second favorite ride that was both exhilarating and had a great view. The tower drop didn't have a line. The Canyon Flyer was less than 5 minutes.
If you don't want to do rides, there's 2 cave tours as options as a different ticket than the Funday ticket.
Fun place for the family to enjoy some rides without long lines.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Fairy Cave tour, the tour guide made it an enjoyable experience, I think his name was Patrick.
The Alpine rollercoaster was super fun, much faster if you do it with 2 people! And the park overall was nice, many activities were closed due to winter but our group still had a blast. There were plenty of things to see, the Trolls, the big bear, the breathtaking views.
There were no lines for what was open due to it being winter and it being morning. I want to come again in the summer and expect lines at that time.

Fun Theme Park! Visited in August 2023 so the temps were pushing 90 during mid-day, but a Cavern tour was a great way to beat the heat. Stayed in Vail and drove 1 hour to Glenwood Springs but the drive thru the Canyon on the way was breathtaking.

Amazing! The caves were breathtaking, unbelievable and unique experience. We had the best tour guide! Forgot his name, but he made the cave tour so much fun!
We went during winter most rides were closed but that’s okay. The pricing and cave tours were so worth it. On top of the gift shop you have an amazing view of the mountains and the city. Breath taking! We want to return for a Sumer experience!

We had such a good time! On vacation from Indiana and passed through Glenwood Springs. We decided to stop and stay there on a whim, so glad we did!
Caves were awesome, the rides were all thrill rides. Even just riding to the top to look around would be worth the money.
It is off season, so some rides were on an alternating schedule but we still made the best of it. Our kids are 7 & 9 and loved it. Would highly recommend! Also had military discounts for tickets.

Update: Feb 10, 2024 - We still had a great time. We went through both caves and rode the Alpine Coaster again. I highly recommend the visit! They do charge $5 for parking now if you don't have an annual pass.
We made 3 visits in two days. Love the ride up in the gondola. The Fairy Cave tour was interesting and educational. We also rode the Alpine Coaster each visit. Very fun and exciting. The Annual Pass is very much worth the cost if you can get in a couple of visits.

Rifle Falls State Park, located near Glenwood Springs, is a picturesque park boasting stunning waterfalls, limestone caves and an abundance of wildlife. With several hiking trails and picnic areas available, visitors can enjoy the park's natural beauty while exploring the diverse flora and fauna that call it home. The triple waterfall is a must-see attraction within the park, along with its small yet fascinating limestone caves which add to its unique charm.
This is an awesome state park. It can be very sketchy if it is icy. Very, very sketch. But, it is beautiful. The Limestone Caves are very neat to explore. Lots of trout swimming around. Just pure beauty... and make sure to drive up the creek into the Gorge. It is better than some national parks!!

This place is awesome, the views from below, behind and above the waterfalls are breathtaking. There are caves throughout the park some are easily accessible others are a bit challenging but doable. There's several trails and some have handrails when needed. On the top their is a gorgeous pond and other scenic adventures. Entry fee is $9 for day pass or they offer state park yearly fees. Would highly recommend this place.

The Falls are pretty neat to go visit. I recommend going early, before 10 am, if you want a parking space at the bottom side. There is only room for 32 cars and it's very busy over the weekend. There is a little space to park up above next to the Fish Hatchery, but it's also very limited and it's a decent walk from there to the top of the falls. It will also cost $10 for the state park pass but it's good for any Colorado state park until noon the next day. That's if you don't already have a pass or the special license plate tags.

Definitely worth the price of admission. The falls are beautiful and the caves there are equally interesting. The trails are easy, not too long. Some sections have stairs. Scenic around the falls and caves.

We have been taking the kids here for well over a decade and always have a wonderful!!! They have multiple trails and all are fairly easy to trek with the chillins throughout the whole park. We have definitely had the opportunity to camp in a trailer as well as a tent. This place accommodates both very well. Very gorgeous views the whole hike through. Also we like to hit the fish hatchery and the ice caves when we do come out this way

Great price at $10 for a day pass for entire carload of people. Easy hiking trails for all Abilities of hikers young & old, main part of trail in front of waterfall easily wheelchair accessible, not much past that first big trail though. Caves were great for the kids to crawl through and many brought their 4 legged friends also. Overall the beauty was well worth it and wasn't too over crowded on a weekday around 11am.

Small but beautiful park.
The falls: No hiking required to view. Parking area right by the falls. There are several different viewpoints from the above, behind and below if you hike the short trail.
The caves: Several small caves you can go in and one large one that goes about 90ft in. Went in at dark with flashlights. Neat experience.
The campground: Very small and at the park entrance, so every visitor to the park will be driving through the campground to view the falls. As you are entering the park, the campsites on the right side have a small river behind them.
Wildlife: Saw turkeys and mule deer
Other things to know: 2 restrooms, no showers, free wifi access.

One of the best camping trips and it was so beautiful. Rangers and attendants were very helpful. The tent site 014 was the best one in my opinion not to far from parking lot surrounded by nature. Hiking trails were not very difficult , short and beautiful. Nice caves to explore and the trail above the waterfall was spectacular. Loved this place... Definitely want to come again and again.

This was a beautiful little gem we found in this quaint town of Rifle. We paid the 9-dollar day use fee and took the small hike to the 3 beautiful waterfalls. These waterfalls flow into a cute little fairy tale type brook. The 3 waterfalls, by themselves, make you feel as if you've been transported to Hawaii for a minute. You can easily climb/hike up behind the waterfalls to explore some small limestone caves that look pretty cool. If you continue on the coyote trail, which is up and behind the falls, you will see a little fishing pond. You can also get a fantastic aerial shot at the top of the falls. There are picnic tables around so you can bring a lunch and enjoy a nice picnic.

Rifle Falls are such a beautiful triple waterfall that exceeded our expectations. The trail takes the hiker up to the falls then around to the top and back down to the other side. There are some really cool rock formations as well as caves along the trail. There view of the falls from each point is spectacular!

This was a wonderful surprise to find outside if Rifle.
The loop walk takes you past small caves, and up to the top of the waterfalls where they have several platforms to view the gals from the top. Once you come back down there are also multiple viewing areas with great photo opportunities. The mist coming off the falls was so refreshing on a hot day.
The park is clean with multiple picnic tables and overnight camping spots

Great short hike for the family. Not difficult at all. The caves were so cool. I wish I would have had a better flash light than the one on my phone. So we could have explored them a little better.
The falls were really cool even late into July early August, running strong. We hiked up to the top of them to the look outs.
At the top there are some ponds and I believe there is some fishing there.

We enjoyed our time at Rifle Falls state park. We hiked a couple of the trails and stood in the mist of the waterfall on a hot day. Between the sound of the water and the birds, we found the park to be tranquil. We traveled from AZ and camped somewhat close to the park at Elk Creek campground. There was limited parking, but thankfully we were able to find a spot in the last lot. There is camping available within the park, which we may try on our next trip up to the area. We're planning a return trip next year so that we can explore the park and surrounding areas more. The park has a small entrance fee - if I remember correctly it was around $10 which is well worth it if you have time to explore.

It's about 20 minutes north of the interstate, but well worth a stop if you're near Rifle, CO. We just stopped to visit the falls but they have some camping there as well. The falls were wonderful and depending on the time of day you go they cast a great rainbow. There are pit toilets for restrooms. You do have to pay a entrance fee.

I had a few spare hours while in Rifle and decided to visit the falls. It was well worth the visit.
Hit up the Coyote trail for the best views of the falls. Around the base things will be crowded, but at the top and the vantage points on the way down aren't, and give you a great view of the falls.
The park itself was clean and well used. Staff were very helpful, but parking may be an issue.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit! Terri was very informative, knowledgeable, and personable. You can tell she loves the museum and her role! One of the days I stopped by she was actually working outside on some windows getting her hands dirty and getting stuff done! Wishing more people were as dedicated! This museum was amazing! One of the best me and my wife have ever been to. If you enjoy stories about the old Wild West and want to see everything from Native American artifacts to old cars from the 1940s or 50s this is the place to go. Their displays were so impeccable and informative. So we'll taken care of. It's a must go for western Colorado. The lady working there was so friendly and informative. Me and my wife will definitely go back again one day!

I visited the museum to try to see whether an ancestor of mine had actually lived in Meeker (as our improbable family legend had it). The museum is much bigger than it looks from the outside, has a fascinating (but, as someone else says, chaotically-organized…) collection of everything from photos to stage coaches to barbed wire to dolls to furniture from Meeker's past, and the curator I met went beyond the call of duty to research my ancestor (yes, he did live there, a long time ago). Worth a visit if you're curious about how people lived around here back then.

Free Museum with lots of artifacts. A large portion felt like an antique collection museum, but if more signs were added about the significance of the objects it might make more sense for local history. One building definitely was about the history of the area including a notorious massacre and a particular battle field. Could spend 30 min to an hour here easily... more if you want to read a lot. The lady there was super helpful in filling in details of any questions I had. Super friendly.

We had an unexpected, but completely wonderful experience at the museum today. We showed up late but the volunteers still showed us around and gave us an awesome mini tour. They could not have been more kind or accommodating to our boys. We loved all the many things to see inside as well. This has to be one of the best family things to do in Meeker, especially on a not so great weather day!
