What a wonderful find! The Fall colors were beautiful and the camp spots were so big. Felt like we were really out with nature plus a very nice dump site on the way out and water. The park Personnel was awesome!
It was 4 miles off of Highway 94 and very easy to get to. Well worth the short drive. We definitely will be back:-) oh and the bathrooms and showers were very nice and very very clean:-)

I gave it a one star to write a review. I booked site here for the end of July, I had to cancel because of a family emergency (had a death to death with). I had a month roughly a week before my stay and when I cancel, they charged me 5/day of length of stay which was 25 for me. I asked for them to refund the card I paid with and the lady I was talking to advised me that she would send me a check in the the mail that may take 3 weeks to get I just hope. Just so everyone who stays here is aware they only have electricity hook up on your site. They do have a dump station and portable water at the entrance but only electricity at site, which means you have to move every time you needs water. This site looks like a good place, but I think it should be more RV friendly ready then it is. Just remember if you're going to cancel even if your a month away they will keep 5/ length of your stay and then send a check in mail to you.

This state park is beautiful and very big. Fairly easy to reserve an RV site online, but must create an account first. It’s nice they have a map to choose a site that your rig will fit into. We have a class A motorhome, 38 foot with a tow and chose site 46. It’s a back on site, but worked perfectly for us, easy to unhook. There is water to fill up at the entrance if needed. Sites have electric only. Close to town of Bismarck, N.D.
Rebecca Bingaman — Google review
Huge, green park, lovely mature trees, with well-spaced, all electric sites. (There’s no water at individual sites). But water and dump station at entry. Brand new vault toilets. Mid-week it was nearly empty and pretty quiet. We used #86 which was on the river with a worn path to the water. Friendly, helpful staff. To book online, you’ll need something other than safari..we just called for a reservation with no trouble.

We hold a strong affinity for this expansive park, appreciating its generous proportions and open layout—a perfect locale for leisurely canine strolls. The copious trees offer commendable shade even during the most scorching summer periods. The presence of a conveniently situated boat launch further enhances the park's appeal. The strategic placement of waste receptacles throughout the premises proves to be a thoughtful convenience, particularly when indulging in outdoor grilling or discarding pet waste.
Regrettably, during the midsummer months, the prevalence of ticks in this area poses a notable concern. Consequently, we take measures to ensure our canine companion's safety by confining activities to the sidewalk. The park's pavilions serve their intended purpose effectively, accommodating larger gatherings in a pleasing manner.
An attribute we admire is the allocation of designated areas catering to campers and those seeking a primitive camping experience. This enduring feature is indicative of the park's commitment to meeting a diverse range of recreational preferences.

Camp site #12 was long enough for my 38' trailer and pickup to park easily. Great trees for shade and hanging a hammock. Clean firepit and nicely mowed. This site is close to the playgrounds and maybe 50 yards from hole 7 of the frolf course. Frisbee golfers walk by periodically but not too close to the campers.
Jesse Roth — Google review
Originally planned to stay 2 nights, but extended it to 4 total. $25/night for spacious sites with 20/30/50 @ the sites, and showers, water and dump in the park. It was a lovely stay and will be our go to everything we return to visit family nearby.
Enjoyed the playground with family, and campfires twice, and exchanged books at the little free library next to the office! Peace and beauty.
Terri Lynn — Google review
Beautiful park south of the North Dakota capital filled with cottonwoods on the bank of the Missouri River. Great trail, boat launch, disk golf and sand volleyball court. 50 amp electric service but no water or sewer on site. Would give 5 stars if water and sewer were on site.
Kyle Bell — Google review
Lovely, quiet campground. We stayed one night while on a road trip. The attendant asked whether we wanted to be close to showers or have privacy. We chose privacy. Site 79 was perfect and completely surrounded by mature greenery (and just a bit of a walk to the showers). The cosy fire pit area is secluded and you can’t even see the road if you sit back here. We passed by several easy pull through sites as well which we might try next time. The pit toilets were very clean and well maintained.
Nikki Germain — Google review
Beautiful place to visit for a solo walk or with other people. Camping is available, horse shoe pits, frisbee golf, multiple playground areas, shelters, pit toilets, campground office is located at the gate/entrance. Lots of shade and green grass!
The park McDowell Dam Recreation Area is a delightful place with an enchanting trail surrounding the lake. It offers a diverse array of bird species and an abundance of trees, plants, and flowers, providing captivating views of the lake from various vantage points. The park is highly regarded in the Bismarck area for over three decades and has been cherished by families who have brought their children and now their grandchildren to enjoy its amenities.
This has been one of our favorite Bismarck area parks to come to for over 30 years! We brought our children here and now are bringing our grand children. Love the beach, the play areas, the walking areas. Great memories are made here.

Always a great day at McDowell! Whether you're BBQn or having fun in the water this place doesn't disappoint. I've been to a birthday party here, celebrated the 4th, and we plan to come back

Nice and easy walking walking trail with birds and other wildlife. There is parking and grills for people to barbecue. You can do water activities.

Spacious, with a couple good fishing docks. There's some designated swimming areas, and kayaking and boating is very common there as well. A pleasant place to take the family.

The trail around the lake is wonderful! I saw dozens of bird species and a great variety of trees, plants and flowers, with excellent views of the lake from different heights and angles. I will certainly be returning. I expect it will be especially glorious in Autumn.

Went to the haunted house/fort. Had 2 adults and one 14 yr old and one 9 yr old. We all had a blast! Will definitely come back again. The staff and park rangers were great! Got to shoot some zombies with paintball guns. Had good food at the concession stand. They even had merchandise/clothing to purchase. All reasonably priced. If you paid online it saves $5 per person for the haunted house/fort tour.
C. S. — Google review
Ticketed tours every hour. Tourguides are done in full historical attire. They really get into their role. Watch out for the rattlesnakes. Especially near the boardwalk around the house next to the well.
Rasikanand Harvind — Google review
We needed more time here. Arrived late in the day, but still managed to get some sight seeing in. We attended the 4pm tour of the Custer house where our guide (Sergeant Josh, I believe?) was witty and knowledgeable. We then looked around the Barracks and Commissary before heading out. Lots of history to be seen here!
Crystal M — Google review
No hours of operation listed. No one decided to take a minute to answer any questions. Don't know if you can just drive in to look. No information anywhere. What a disappointment.

It was fun and plenty fun historical facts,I love going there.

Very much enjoyed the history and walk-through of the Custer house and barracks. Hard to imagine the life they endured back then and the ending all those men met.

It was really great and our tour guide was so fun, he helped the kids go back in time, which made the tour feel more relevant. I took my 4th graders and we had a blast

I've been here 3 times in 5 years, it's like a pilgrimage. Joshua was knowledgeable and kept the tour light. Maisey makes a great Custer tea, and the on a slant tour was very educating. Thanks to all, I'll be back.

Located outside of Mandan, the Custer House is found in Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. We were lucky enough to be visiting on memorial day when Soldiers get free entry to the park. The visitors center has a informative display that is worth reading. The house itself was locked when I approached it but there was plenty to see and do around the area so I didn't mind.
Betsy Lawrie — Google review
Positive note Actors were very well dressed, costumes were very good, great decor, great atmosphere. Negative , sent to many people in at one time some were very slow getting through witch made everyone bunched in there at one time and it made the timing off for second and third group to be scared by the actors. I literally followed 2 of the actors out following the group in front of me. Just bad timing on their part and overwhelmed the actors to do their part. Can’t scare 3 groups of people walking through at once. 5 at a time until that 5 exit would’ve made this experience way better and worth the $40 admission.
Chad Perry — Google review
Great place to visit providing a deep insight to history and the way things were. Ample parking, just watch the way you enter the parking lot, one way in and one way out. You can walk around the house any time however, tours are provided by a guide on the hour currently 10AM to 4PM. The house is one thing however take the time to look at the views of the house including the Missouri River.

An outstanding living history presentation! Well worth the price. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job. Don't forget to walk over and check out the barracks and go up and check out Fort McKeen as well. Much better than overpriced, overrated Medora.

Excellent tour guides who were so knowledgeable about Custer history. Fascinating place. You could spend at least half a day or more. Great coffee and book shop onsite.

Lots of history and the actor giving tours is very knowledgeable
Recreated fort led by Gen. Custer, featuring his home, a Mandan village & other rebuilt structures.
Extremely nice park for camping, hiking and history! I slept in a tipi which made this experience even better! Haunted Fort was fun also. I want to give thanks to Ranger Eric who helped me get my car unstuck at the stables! He went above and beyond anything I expected! Restroom and shower facilities were clean. The Fall colors were spectacular!

FALSP. Great hiking, biking, horse trails. Camping, fishing and activities and events throughout the year. This is a beautiful park along Missouri River. Dog friendly but must be kept on a leash.

None of the buildings were open. It costs 7 dollars to just get in the state park. The Mandan mud huts were cool. But overall not really worth the price.

Very nice and beautiful state park. The On a Slant Native American Village is really cool. My kids 8-12 really enjoyed walking through each earthlodge. We also liked the Custer House.
Jessica Cox — Google review
The State parks are so beautiful and very well kept. This park is right on the Missouri River and Heart River. So neat there. We stayed at a site with water and electric. There's also a dump station. Many hiking trails and playground, pic-a-nic areas and modern clean bathrooms. At only $25/night plus the park daily fee of only $8. There's also an amphitheater, fishing and just watching the Bald EAGLE that was circling as we walked with our cat. I think it was hungry. I could have stayed there much longer. Oh and check out time isn't until 3pm. That was nice too.
Darlene Skinner — Google review
This is a wonderful site for recreation and history. Price is reasonable. Visitor center is an historic CCC project. Nicely recreated Indian village. And, of course, lovely views of the Missouri. Hiking, biking, equestrian, and more activities available.

I visited Fort Abraham Lincoln during my summer vacation to North Dakota. The is a wonderful state park filled with so much history. I enjoy a guided tour of the reconstructed Custer House. The costumed guide was excellent, her knowledge of the Custer's and the life on a frontier fort really added to a most enjoyable tour. After my tour of the Custer House, I made my way up to the post cemetery and the Site of Fort McKeen which affords visitors wonderful views of the entire area including the Missouri River. I also found my tour of the On-A-Slant Village to be very informative. All total I ended up spending much of the afternoon (about 4-hours) touring the site of the fort and its buildings. Fort Abraham Lincoln is a must-see site for any History Buff.
Garry Thompson — Google review
Great campsites here because there is a lot of space between the backyards of the sites, maybe 50 ft. and there are many rustic and modern sites. If you are into history and Custer, you can tour the house where he lived and was the Post (Ft Abraham Lincoln) Commander. This was the house he occupied when he marched off with his calvary to the Little Big Horn and he modified it to his and Libbys liking! All of the current base buildings have been reconstructed because the lumber, etc, was carted off the 1890s by the locals. There is also a great museum in the Visitor Center that covers both the Mandan life and Army fort life. Next to the museum is a slant village built by the Mandan. It is called slant village because it was built on a slant of the hill and had 75 lodges! However, the earth lodges now are reproductions based on their original designs. The Mandan lived on the Missouri river for 500 years but were decimated by smallpox in the late 1700s.
Mike L — Google review
Park with a ton of history as most havee. 7 dollar car entry was a fair price. If you plan to enjoy the whole park, plan at least half to full day, closer to full if you want to see all the trails and such. Block forts and the mud huts are staples, yet trails galore and exploring the wide open spaces. Native American culture and history are things we should all understand more of.

Lots to see and do here at this park. All facilities are well maintained and it offers events throughout the year. Great mt bike trails too

My mother is from Mandan and I have family that lives there still, also in Bismarck. I’ve visited the park countless times since I was a little girl. I’ve had the privilege of creating memories here with my own family. We’ve done the Custer house tour, climbed the block houses, sat in the earth houses, fished the river, had barbecue gatherings with 3 generations of families, walked the trails along the river. It’s all around a incredible place to visit. We will be back to visit for many years to come.

Great campground for chilling. Nice pa ed partaking river and camp sites. Very friendly and helpful park staff. I would recommend a stay here. Clean bathrooms and showers too.
Bryan Stewart — Google review
Arriving, had a nice chat with the ranger at the gate getting some recommendations. From there, we went to the Custer House for a tour (additional fee above the entry fee) and well-worth it. The one hour guided tour with Don was excellent and informative. We then crossed the parade grounds to the barracks, then up to the blockhouses for an excellent view of the Missouri River/prairie and visited the cemetery. Back down the hill to the Mandan village where you can go into some of the earth lodges and finishing up in the visitors center which had some great artifacts for the fort, the Mandan village and local tribes and the Civilian Conservation Corps. All in all, a great time.

Kirkwood Mall is a convenient retail center in California, offering a diverse selection of popular chain stores, casual eateries, and beauty salons. It presents a well-maintained and orderly environment that leaves visitors with a positive first impression. The mall features an array of great stores catering to different needs, including sporting goods, clothing outlets, and even a Barnes & Noble bookstore.
Place is pretty nice good place to get out and walk and do some shopping. I could use more food court options in my opinion but overall nice experience

This is an ok mall. If you want to call it that, there is not alot of store choices here. Now there is several in the area. However, you do get the small town feel, which I think is great. I hate to see these dieing off.

I enjoyed my walk around Kirkwood Mall due to the number of upscale stores and the climate controlled interior. There was not a food court inside the mall but ample dining opportunities a five minute drive from the mall. There is ample parking with three entrances to the mall. A big plus to the mall is it seemed to have ample seating where you can wait while other members of your group shop.

The ultimate place to shop in Bismarck. Scheels, Target and JC Penny have been mainstays for years. With all the various stores; there is something for everyone. The staff does an outstanding job of keeping the mall clean.
Laughing Sun Brewing Co is a popular tavern and brew house situated in the historic Laskin Building in downtown Bismarck. The pub aims to create a welcoming space for the local community, featuring the work of local artists on its walls. Visitors can observe the brewing process through a glass wall upon entering or enjoy their handcrafted beers at a unique custom-made concrete bar.
In town for a couple of days and stopped for lunch after we left the airport. OMG this was the BEST way to start our vacay!
Every single thing we ordered (6 of us) was amazing. Pulled pork nachos, tacos, sandwiches, ribs, Mac n cheese, chips...even the pickles are good. Got the Flying Axe Red Ale...went perfect with it all. Wow!!! We are discussing ending our trip here before heading back to the airport...
Grateful it wasn't busy...but why wasn't it busy....locals need to come here often!

Love the food here! The smoked turkey is my favorite, the dijon aioli on it, yum! The brisket is fantastic! The sauce is just the right tang and spice. The Mac & cheese is dreamy creamy! I can’t believe have not done a review sooner because we have been her many times. They did a fantastic job in catering my daughter’s wedding in 2022. The beer is tasty I heard from my kids, I don’t drink beer. Our grandson was a super fan of the brownie dessert, it is huge.
We love coming for the entertainment. Axe throwing looks fun but everyone would run if I attempted it.

Great customer service, but I thought the food was mediocre. The baked beans were among the best I’ve had, but I was disappointed with the brisket. It seemed to be a too greasy and lacked flavor. My wife did enjoy her pulled pork sandwich, so maybe it was just me? Great atmosphere. I would give it another shot if ever in the area.

This place is incredible, great customer service, great atmosphere, great beer, and even better food. They were serving samples at our convention, liked the beer so we decided to check it out, glad we did. I had the pretzel with beer cheese for starter, homemade pretzel with really good cheese. Had Burnt Ends and Mac and Cheese for main, both were delicious. Coworkers had brisket, which was tender and juicy. Had the Feast Like a Sultan IPA, one of the best I have had. Highly recommend, should be the number one restaurant on any list.

My husband & I were in Bismarck today visiting someone in the hospital & decided to try Laughing Sun because it was in close proximity to it. Love the ambience, friendly staff & the food was very good. I had the chopped brisket sandwich & my husband had the pulled pork, each with a side salad, that was huge, & a large helping of kettle chips. We would definitely recommend both sandwiches! Also, the portions were very generous! If you go away hungry, that’s on you. We didn’t try any of the beers, but they had a good selection & I’d like to go back & give some a whirl.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Laughing Sun Brewery, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The first thing that caught my eye was the tastefully decorated interior. The brewery had a rustic charm, with wooden accents and cozy lighting that created a relaxed and comfortable ambiance.
Now, let's talk about the beer. Laughing Sun Brewery truly knows how to brew exceptional beer. They had a wide variety of options on tap, catering to different tastes and preferences. Whether you're a fan of hoppy IPAs, rich stouts, or refreshing wheat beers, you're bound to find something to suit your palate. Each beer I tried was expertly crafted, with a perfect balance of flavors and a smooth finish. The staff was also knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, always ready to offer recommendations and engage in beer-related discussions.
One aspect that stood out to me was the presence of board games. Laughing Sun Brewery provides a great selection of board games for patrons to enjoy. It added a fun and interactive element to the experience, allowing friends and family to engage in friendly competition while enjoying their delicious brews. It was refreshing to see a brewery go the extra mile to create an engaging and entertaining environment.
Another highlight was the brewery's child-friendly atmosphere. As a parent, it can be challenging to find places where you can enjoy quality beer while also accommodating your children. Laughing Sun Brewery managed to strike the perfect balance. They had a dedicated area with games and activities for kids, ensuring that families could have a great time together. The staff was friendly and accommodating towards families, making it a welcoming environment for all.
In summary, I highly recommend Laughing Sun Brewery to beer enthusiasts and families alike. The combination of excellent beer, cozy decor, availability of board games, and their child-friendly approach make it a fantastic destination for a relaxing and enjoyable outing. Whether you're looking to unwind with a pint or spend quality time with loved ones, Laughing Sun Brewery is the perfect spot to do so. Cheers!

Just wondering why there’s no railing to go up to the upper portions of seating. Saw many people struggling not to fall. How is this building ADA compliant? Not impressed.
Denise Weikum — Google review
Building is getting old as there are buckets to catch water, lines coming out of the roof into trash cans. The prices on the food is down right crazy. I understand the need to pay people to staff the event but 5.00 for a 20oz drink or 4.00 for a bottle of water is crazy. Staff was super friendly and made up for the crazy prices. They all should get a raise!

With 600 animals of 125 species, this zoo features tigers, grizzlies & a large grazing animal area.
We went on a weekday and it was pretty empty from customers. It was fantastic. From petting animals, feeding them, and just watching them interact was lots of fun. They have a great selection of animals you don't see in the south! I suggest go earlier when. It's cooler and the animals are much more active!

Omgeee I loved it maybe because I don’t see animals like that in Florida but this zoo is amazing. We saw camels , bisons , donkeys , grizzly bears, wolfs and the list goes on . It was very spacious and no big crowds which was another plus. I love this zoo!!

love this place. visited on tuesday for the first time and lady at the front was very accommodating. there’s a huge variety of animals. even though i came on a weekday, it was somewhat crowded so that’s nice. there’s a cute gift shop by the front that’s surprisingly cheap from other places. if you want to go on a train ride on a weekday, i suggest coming after 4 pm because most of the drivers are high schoolers i believe? btw if you buy food for the farm animals, make sure you use a dispenser that’s somewhat full, if you don’t, there’s a good chance nothing will come out but it’s no big deal. will definitely come back!

Visited from out of town and spent family time at the Dakota Zoo.
I'm used to bigger zoos that are very crowded and the animals are 20 feet away. I was expecting to see animals I see at my home zoo; I was wrong. The variety and habitats of the animals is fun and interesting.
The zoo was not crowded. My family could wander around at their own pace. The zoo is very well covered by trees which provide shade in many places. The paths are a bit run down, but fine for wheelchairs and strollers. We did not have a map of the zoo which made it confusing to me. My daughter knew her way around and there are info signs periodically to show the exhibit locations.
I did not see many food stands that I'm used to in bigger zoos. I think everything is near the entrance. There is a petting zoo at the entrance as well.

This is a beautiful place to go. The walk around the facility is beautiful. The grizzlies are my favorite, along with the elk exhibit. There are penguins here, too. There's fun activities to do with the kids as well.

Large variety of animals! Some of the enclosures are a little small but overall great fun. They have two trains to take around the facility. Reasonable pricing.

Everyone was super nice and shared a lot of cool info about the animals. Got a nice tour along with getting the chance to pet snakes! Only issue I would say I had was almost tripping a few times on the uneven paths. The rest of the park was very nice and was bigger than I thought it was gonna be with lots of cool animals! Thank you for the awesome visit!

Fun, fun, fun! We’ve visited here for many years. It’s such a welcoming place. There is so much to do and see. It’s a refreshing change from the Texas zoo’s.

Fun zoo with a good amount of stuff to look at. Staff was friendly.
It was hot today, there are NO drinking fountains. They do sell 20oz bottles of water for 4 dollars, huge ripoff. They have all the spigots locked too.
Todd Jorgenson — Google review
The zoo is fairly well put together. There were a few animals that should have had better enclosures.
Better signage placement for almost all the animals explaining what they are, do they have names, etc would also be nice.
The goats were my favorite

Well kept surprisingly large zoo. The tram ride was good to get an idea of how to get back to animals you want to look at closer. New otter enclosure was very nice. Lots of birds and raptors.

We had a perfect day at the zoo. It wasn't too hot so the animals were quite active. It wasn't too busy, and it was very clean. They really have put a lot of effort into the landscaping. There were a lot of baby animals which was fun. We were all impressed that the animals looked very content, not stressed at all.

We love going to the zoo! So cool they added penguins; we could just sit and watch them for the longest time. Right along with the moneys, bears, wolves, otters… The train is fun, too! One year we even stopped by for their public Easter egg event; we recommend it!

For a small state this Zoo was awesome. I absolutely loved how the animals were up close & were all out for everyone to see. This Zoo looks small from the outside but is really big. I love the feeling that they are all about the animals rather than profit. Make sure to take quarters cause you can buy pet food for the goats to eat which is so much fun for all ages.

Excellent zoo fun for kids and adults-with tigers, giraffes, bears, monkeys, bison, lemurs, camel, alligator, tortoise, fox, wolf, alligator, llama, pigs, goat, dear, and many types of birds like eagle, emu, pheasant and swans.
Log building & headquarters of an 1872 military installation featuring exhibits on local history.
Lovely, peaceful grounds. A pretty covered open building housing the rail engine. Plenty of pigeons/doves roosting above it so don't get past the railing! There is also a gorgeous old church on the grounds and the weather service building. Lots of sweet scented peonies on the grounds, a well maintained lawn, the perfect tree to frame photos of the beautiful church from the back, a pair of soft stained glass windows complete the site. The railroad runs behind it and the front of the site is framed by the street with lamp post signs.
Anupa D. — Google review
Historical place only open fully on weekend but the grounds are always open and free.
Freedomat51Rock — Google review
Nice and quiet place.
Unfortunately the church was closed when I was there and had no chance to visit it
A good opportunity to see an old steam locomotive and to be impressed by its dimensions. The left side of the locomotive, the one facing the nearby railway, would need more maintenance as in some spots the paint is falling off and in general, mainly considering the pigeons living under the roof, it would require some cleaning.

The nicest and ONLY Green space in downtown Bismarck. Nice place to sit outside and eat your lunch!
Kid-oriented attraction with a giant slide, a Ferris wheel, mini-golf, go karts & concessions.
I have to say, the staff today was on fire!! They rocked it. One dude, was so cool, he would like pump the kids up and say things like, "3-2-1 full speed engaged" and they just loved it! Best place for carnival rides!! Thank you for a great day you guys!!
Jenny Mac — Google review
No lines to wait in, plenty for our 8 year old to enjoy... most of the attendants were friendly, but some stood in a group on their phones and seemed annoyed when we were wanting to ride things. Also wish the height limit was not so minimal for Go-Karts, but the bumper cars made up for it!
It was nice to poke around and do something my mother in law used to do with my husband as a kid. Core memories!
Crystal M — Google review
Could this place use some fresh paint? Yes. Could some of the rides be updated? Yes.
Do they need to be for the hour and a half that my toddler enjoys this park? No.
What I love about this park is its general easiness. No one is waiting long in line, the park isn't so big that you lose sight of your child, the workers all seem at ease, lots of shade underneath beautiful trees, everything is clean, and there are plenty of places to take a seat and relax as your child runs hither and thither between carousels, bounce houses, swings, and tea cups.
I have fond memories of this place playing wacky basketball and cheating at mini golf, and I feel lucky that I get to share it with my kids.

Fun, good for kids.. one warning, no water for sale except for a single cash vending machine... employee told me its a deal they have with Pepsi not to provide access to Water at a childrens amusment park...
To reply to the owners comments, you are wrong. You may have 2 vending machines, but only 1 works and either does not accept cards. So again NO WATER. Should I post a video for you?

What I expected for a family fun park. We wished there were enough workers to cover all the rides. Some wait times were really month for the little kids rides. Batting cages were pretty outdated. Overall fun and fair prices.

Restored 1884 Victorian home & carriage house, the residence of ND governors from 1893–1960.
Beautiful house. There's an attendant there as well so if you have questions or anything he can help....the gentleman we had was very knowledgeable and friendly. There was no admittance fee. Plaques mounted to the walls to describe the different living areas. They've actually peeled away different layers of wallpaper and paint as well as the lath and plaster. Definitely worth stopping to see.

Very haunted and very charming. Lost all track of time when in the attic playroom. My children had a blast but when they would quit playing with something, the item would roll or move back to my children. We weren't scared but definitely worth looking into.

This is a beautiful place and it's definitely worth checking out. The gardeners are all volunteers and I love swinging by to see what's growing. Most plants have placards which is great for those of us new to plant love. The only downside for me is that, like many places in this town, dogs are not welcome regardless of how well they behave. I find myself not frequenting (or spending my money) at most establishments in town as result.

Very cool and free activity. Don't miss the attic and "playroom" upstairs. It's kind of hidden!

Gorgeous, well-kept historical part of history! Self-guided tour throughout this place allowed both my son and I to really take it all in! Donation box at the entrance and I'd suggest a donation of any size to help keep this part of Bismarck history.
The North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum provides exhibits on the state's geological prehistory and early cultures, including details on Norwegian farmers and nuclear missiles. As the largest museum and archive in the state, it offers a comprehensive view of North Dakota's past and present. Recently renovated, the museum is family-friendly with a treehouse for children to play in and free admission. It also features sanitation stations throughout the facility for visitors' safety.
So many great things to see and learn about. If you need further convincing or were second guessing on going, admission is free! We were practically the only people inside. Sanitation stations all around the facility. Family friendly and they even have a treehouse upstairs for the littles to play. My only regret is not taking more pictures.

We had so much fun! There was not only a dinosaur (with the skin still on it!) But there was so much more to see and do. I cant believe it was free! The kids had a blast pushing buttons, watching videos, and listing to phones. There was a Case tractor simulator/game the kids had an absolute blast in. We even found something called "the tree house" for kids ages 2-8. It has an actual tree house- complete with green tube slide, fire house, fire truck, exploratory tree- we thought the snail home was super cute, cockpit of an airplane, and a ship with kaleidoscopes! Honestly we had so much fun and time just flew by! Could have spent so much more time here.

This place was really neat to walk around. I was kinda concerned since it was free, what it would be like. Lots of really neat history. We had fun hearing story's from our dad about what he used when he farmed as a kid. He was also impressed with what they use now, he hasn't farmed in 60+ years. So fun, we walked over to the capital, and walked around the observation deck. We spent 3+ hours there, and everything was completely free!

This place is a must-see FREE museum!!! If you have kids, definitely go! The museum is great but there is also a “tree house” on the top floor! Kids of all ages were entertained! There’s a space ship and fire truck and so many other fun things, if we lived here we would visit all the time! Such a cool place!!! We will visit every time we are in ND! So much that the photos don’t even capture! They also have a super cute gift shop, great place to buy souvenirs that aren’t stupid. It is such an incredible place!!! Oh yes, and let me repeat…. IT’S FREEEEEEE!!!!!

Exceptional! And free!!! The building itself is very modern and deceptively big. We were warmly greeted by the gentleman behind the desk, welcoming us to the state and gave us a 3 minute overview of the Center. The special exhibit featured Native storytellers and the land which was very well done with some amazing photography. The three main permanent collections were geologic time, early people’s and yesterday/today. There were so many artifacts, you could easily spend all day and still not see everything - did not know a mummified dinosaur existed. Ended up learning a lot about North Dakota. Well done! And to finish it off, go to the capital building 18 floor observation floor and check out their wall of fame on the main floor. Good way to spend a day.

The North Dakota Heritage Center was such an amazing place to go see and that fact that it's completely free is fantastic! The exhibits are well-done and a ton of care was put into the design and layout of every aspect of this place. The Center itself is huge and there is SO much breathing room which means almost no one to get in the way and interrupt your time! We're went early afternoon and a couple of small groups of children were there on a field trip, but the place is so big that we only ran into them once and never again - not even in the nearly 3 hours we were roaming and browsing. The taxidermy is certainly museum-quality - absolutely gorgeous!
There were some older gentlemen seated near the cafe playing folk music with guitars and singing. As we spent more time at the Center, even more people arrived and were participating. What was especially nice was the volume they were playing at and songs they were saying were not offensive or too distracting to enjoy the exhibits or carry on a private conversation. It made for an especially calm ambience when wandering around and seeing what the Heritage Center had to offer.
We visited the center with an almost one and a half year old and found out from an employee here that there is a playplace for children called The Treehouse on the upstairs level. He absolutely LOVED playing here! It was not super busy and it was also absolutely free. With our son being the youngest and the oldest child being maybe 7/8 years old, there was still plenty to interact with without the kids constantly running into each other.

One of the best museums we’ve been to in our travels. You can spend several hours and learn so much about indigenous culture as well as natural wonders. The Geology and Paleontology exhibits are amazing but the Native American storytelling was our favorite part.

So much to see! Several sections of varied content, kid play area, audio informationals, interactive educating gems scattered throughout. Of course there is a cloud spot and gift shop. This is located right beside the ND capital building with a beautiful garden.

Great free museum with a a dinnomummy or a dinosaur body part with preserved skin. The architecture is nice. There is a very cool dinosaur exhibit and Native American exhibit. The history of North Dakota has cool industry points. It’s kid friendly but interesting for adults. Entry is free but there is a cafe and gift shop. The museum is open relatively early and has parking.
Pools, tube slides & a lazy river are highlights of this summer park with a snack bar.
Looks awesome too bad it's sooo cold. Would have loved to be here in the summer. Have to stop by again when the weather's better.

Good price for the what is there! It is clean as it can get. Life guards do not instruct people when going down the slides. The lazy river is full of kids not on tubes when the sign says walkers stay along the wall. They are just lazy. It’s a liability waiting to happen and scared to see someone get hurt. Never heard one of the lifeguards give instructions. Super quiet. Good for a fun day though.

Very clean and lots of fun. Only complaint is lazy river gets too packed with people (kids), you can barely move. They need a pool as well! Weather was hot. There was a line up to enter waiting to open but it was only a 15 minute wait to get in.

I love the cleanliness of the park. I also love that they have lifeguards. Several of them in the kiddie area!!! The water appears to be clean. I have been several times and each time I have not been disappointed. I gave 4 stars out of 5 because of the lack of seats/chairs for such a busy place. As well as the water not being heated.

We have made the trek from Canada twice for all the fun at Raging Rivers. I suggest arriving for opening so you don’t wait for entry. The main water slides are awesome and not too scary. The staff and park rules are fair. When it gets busy no one has to wait long for a tube. The lazy river is nice and relaxing with a fun wave area. Fun for the whole family, indeed!

We love coming here every summer. The last couple of summers have really noticed wear and tear of bottom of pools, decks, and stairs to slides. This year the new pool liners are an amazing upgrade!!! Great job! Also love that the ticket windows opened before the gates this year! That will help the line sooo much! I forgot to check the decks when I was there, but be careful. My young child ran over to one and got several huge slivers in her foot in the few seconds it took me to go catch up with her 2 summers ago. They required a physician removal! Please update all your wood finishes and stairs next. 🙂

The park itself is fun but the reduced hours make it nearly impossible to go there. August is a hot month. There’s no reason to close at 5pm when most people aren’t even off work yet.
Erika Gallaway — Google review
Loved it. Food is pretty pricey. It was hot and a good snack tho. However admission is pretty reasonable. There are 2 large slide for 48" and taller. 2 smaller slides for 48" and taller. they have a splash pad for kids and the lazy river. Lazy river does have a spot where waves come out. Additionally the life guards did get after people being too rowdy in the lazy river.
Asyrria Skie — Google review
I’ve been going here for years and have always loved it. It’s a great place to go with a group and all of the slides provide a thrill the first few times you go on them. The lazy river can be pretty relaxing, depending on the amount of people. I completely recommend this place. But I feel that the food prices are a little high, good food, but high. Go here on a hot day if you get the chance.

Went here for my nephew's birthday party last week. It was really a lot of fun. Scooting around the lazy river in the sunlight was well worth the cost of admission.
State capitol complex featuring numerous administrative facilities in a charming park setting.
We really enjoyed the tour we took. Cindy, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of good and interesting information. She also answered all of our kids questions and showed us things she thought would be of interest to our specific group. The House and Senate were closed due to some remodeling, but it was still worth the tour.

Not a usual building for a capitol in the US, but at same time it's a better example of the capitalism feature of the country and the old boring office style.
Fortunately, it has some places of history and it looks really nice at night with good lighst around (but what doesn't?).
Enough parking spots, at least at night.

The history of North Dakota is amazing and seeing the museum exhibits are great. Only thing is you need more then one day to check everything out. It, to me, is a great place to bring your children because there are hands on exhibits as well.

This state capitol might look unassuming outside, but is very interesting inside. The history dramatically affected the design and architecture.
I appreciated the simplicity and yet detailed touches for the interior design. The downstairs lobby has an unusual hall of portraits of famous and influential North Dakota residents, rather than the typical government position holder's portraits. The history mentioned with each of the portraits is worth the trip to the capitol.
I've had several guided tours and each have been informative. A visit to the top floor is fun to read more history of North Dakota but especially for the views in all directions.
I highly recommend visiting the North Dakota state capitol and the guided tour.

Cool place to check out. They have a free guided tour most hours. Or you can always self-guide yourself through this beautiful building founded in hard working North Dakotan spirit. Our tour guide was knowledge, informative, and obviously very proud of her home state. Great views on the top floor.

A practical but beautiful state capitol building. Guided tours are available during limited hours but self guided tours are allowed as well. Visitors can access the observation level on the 18th floor for nice views of the town. Both chambers of the house and Senate are also open to view.

Different from most State capitol buildings, this skyscraper offers a nice view and a few art deco touches. It's worth a visit, especially since it is free. Don't miss the elevator to the 18th floor. Plan on a half hour.

Another stamp in the boys state capitol books 😉
The elevators are a bit high tech here with a touch screen to request an elevator going up to the observatory floor (or back down). There's a bit to see here (mostly photos and views from the observatory) and the ND Heritage Center is a quick walk from the Capitol building.
I'll boost a review with pics for the heritage center separately since they are technically two separate areas.
Kids' museum with interactive exhibits on electricity, robotics & other scientific topics.
My kids spent hours here and i still had to drag them away! Our family has been to a lot of science and museum places but i have never seen a lot of the items they have here. A lot of interesting science activity. You can do a bunch of interesting activities with your kids. It's not too big, and tend to get crowded. You can also pet a iguana there, and you can also learn about aquaponics, and if you get lost on the trivia quiz, the guy or girl at the gateway to science will help you solve the quiz. They also gonna expand the building and bring more exhibitions. Me, my wife, my daughter and my son have a fun time here!

The museum is small in comparison to other ASTC museums, but it did have a lot of new things we hadn't seen before, and some old as well. The kids really enjoyed it we spent 2 hours, but I think the kids would have liked longer. There was lots of staff around to make sure kids were behaving, and toys didn't go missing. They were all really nice, and did a great job of correcting kids kindly. Definitely a fun stop.

I am a Science Olympiad coach and we brought our 7th and 8th grade students here. It was an amazing stop! The kids had a wonderful time being able to interact with the incredible tools and stations set up through the whole place. Each one of the 14 students showed me a different interactive exhibit that they thought was AWESOME! The people who were working were so kind and informative with both the adults in the group and the kids. If you are looking for a great place to stop, 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good amount of time to spend keeping kids busy and seeing it all. I would absolutely recommend it. It was also very clean and well maintained. I would absolutely stop through again!

If you think you can go for a half hour and leave, you will have to snap your belt and threaten a spanking. 3.5 hours! I stayed for 3.5 hours!! I thought I could leave after 90 minutes, but then my girls pulled a wronski feint on me, split up, and went separate directions. One was practicing being a meterologist with a green screen (8 yr old) while the other was getting wet while building a Hydro Electric generator (5 yr old). They beat their old man down. One would be launching a paper helecopter while the other wanted to digitally disect a pig. To leave, I had to lie and say they were going to close. The introvert in me was glad the overcrowded newness calmed down, but it also allowed me to geek out with my daughters and absent lines. If I was a teen, I'd take a date there... if mini golf wasnt available. Mini golf was always 🔥 when i was a teen... or that is what I told myself. 🤷 For the curious at heart and those wanting screen free interaction, this might be worth your time and money. I just have one suggestion... play with your Littles and pretend you know how to reassemble the human brain. This certainly helped with the development of fond family memories.

Pretty cool park during either day or night.
During the day it's a nice walk by the shore, while during the night it becomes a small swarm of teenagers listening to loud music and (kinda?) partying while driving caressly around the parking lot.
In any case, it has some good facilities and nice sculptures around.

Nice lil boat ride for a cool date night. We went to the 8 pm Sunday ride so we just had drinks available but apparently they do a variety of things on different days and hours. Go early if you want to get seats on the top to enjoy that fresh air. We got to sit on the bottom but it was still really nice by the windows enjoying that view while having a couple beers. We made a quick stop here while passing through, mainly just to say we did something in Bismarck :) We did not have time to go on the cruise and much of the park seemed to be under construction or repairs when we were there. I got a few quick pics of the river and the neat old river boat on display. Hopefully the construction will improve things and we will have more time if we end up here again. We had discussed the dinner cruise, but time didn't allow.

Beautiful place. However, it should be patrolled by the police or security as it seemed like it could be a dangerous place. Alot of ppl going 20+ MPH in the parking lot.
Jade — Google review
The riverboat was nice but as far as the Park itself. It wasn't the most well kept.
Weeds and grass overgrown, the parking lot could use some paving.
I kept getting small stones in my shoes everytime I took a step which didn't feel that great on my feet.
I thought it really needed some security and lights in the parking lot.

Keelboat Park was a fun park to hangout at. There was skateboarding and skating, bicycling and tricycling. There was walking and talking and a few runners too. From pontoons and JetSki’s in the water to a novelty boat ashore, this place was perfect for a sunset and not an eyesore.

If you need a moment to relax, to chill, just a moment to let go.... Or simply have a bite to eat and enjoy some quiet time. Then.... This is the place you need to be. Quite often I hang out here with company or by myself and it never disappoint.

Very nice park with plenty of space, paved trails, good sand volleyball courts and a view of the river. Was a nice place to stop and stretch the legs on a road trip. Not far off the freeway.

This place used to be a good; safe park to visit. As of this last year, however, it has become overrun with high school-aged kids who drive like psychopaths and apparent drug deals/fights/shootings weekly. Its terrible that bismarck pd allows activity like this to take place.
Great historical site overlooking the Missouri River. Plaques and kiosks provided history I was totally unaware of. To have a quick look at everything in the park I would give myself an hour. If you brought your own chair you could spend half a day at Chief Looking’s Village.

This location is very special to my family as well as others. I would like to know who decided to change the name of location, there was no chief lookings. When the City of Bismarck made that change, they removed some of the historical facts about the Mandan Tribe. All of this for a bike path! Enough with the bike paths, no one uses them!!

This place never fail to amaze me with its beautiful sunsets and picturesque views
Chief looking Village is a fine place to relax, chill, take photos , dates or take a walk in the near Bismarck trail.
This place is closed during winter . And on regular days it closes at 10pm . But we went home past 10pm and there are still a lot of people Vibin’ there 😊

Probably the best view of the Missouri river that Bismarck has to offer. I've gone multiple times at either sunrise or sunset, and each time I feel the love of an ever present God! Great place to take pics.

This is a really cool scenic overlook. There are small trailers with detailed information about the Native Americans that inhabited the area. If you looking for a peaceful place to enjoy a good view, this spot should be on your list.

This is my favorite spot in Bismark, North Dakota. The view is amazing!!! It is a short loop walk with historical information to read. Absolutely breath taking.
Very nice park in the North side of Mandan. Lot of picnic tables under covered areas. Play area set up for children with disabilities. Clean restrooms. Lots of grass. Great place to let kids burn off energy. Convenience store across the street.
Charles Bohe — Google review
What an amazing place to bring your kids to. I absolutely love the sponge mat they have down on the ground, instead of gravel, or wood chips because the mat doesn't get soggy and turn into a soup hole. Lots of different structures for the kids to play on and they even have a little area where you can sit on picnic tables in the shade if it gets too hot. Definitely recommend this park over all others.
Anjel Voigt — Google review
One of the best playground in the Bis-Man area. It was loads of fun going here with my daughter. Lots of room to run around and plenty of different things to keep you entertained. A large variety for all ages as well. There is also a lot of activities for children with special needs as well which I thought was very nice. The only complaint I'd have is the parking lot had a lot of cigarette butts everywhere and had some garbage. The playground itself was clean though. Definitely will be coming back here!

Excellent playground. The kids love the zip line. Lots of unique play structures to climb on. Unfortunately the benches are in the sun and the adults have to hangout under the play structure to get any shade.

Great park with amenities for all. Horseshoe pits, bathrooms, covered picnic tables, green lawns with trees, off street parking, and a newly built playground with squishy pads. I went here recently for Mandan's police department "Grill with a Cop" event.

Really awesome park for kids of all ages. I love that the floor is a rubber material and the play equipment is so well built. The variety of things to play with is also unique. I've been to a lot of playgrounds and this one was definitely different in a great way. Also has facilities which is a must.

What an amazing playground! Soft padding on the ground without small pieces getting stuck in the shoes. Good amount of shade and different options for all ages to entertain

Wow such a cool park! Large variety of playground equipment to choose from. Our 5 year old had a blast, especially on the zip lines. Nice clean restroom nearby. No space to really walk dogs at the park, but plenty of sidewalk to walk dogs through the neighborhood next to the park. Highly recommend!

Eagles Park is my first pick when needing a large variety of playground toys/equipment, and is worth the trip from Bismarck to Mandan. It has plenty of options for the little ones: slides, swings, monkey bars etc., and the area is nicely kept and gives the impression of being newly-built. The ground beneath the play structures is covered in a flexible, soft, foam-like material, reducing the impact of falls & scrapes (personally I prefer this to wood chips or gravel). There's plenty of shaded tables as well.
Wild area along 7 miles of the Missouri River, popular for fishing, hiking & cross-country skiing.
Informative, helpful and kind rangers (Jessie and Terry).
Beautiful visitor center with interactive activities for the kids, great gift shop, cross country ski/snowshoe rentals…even hot cocoa!
I rented the art link cabin for the weekend-beautiful!

This park was just a campground and leave park but it was very pretty. Our campsite was right next to the mighty Missouri so you could hear all the different wildlife. The showers there were also very nice along with the bathrooms. Although they were not in the the campground for say they were more towards the entrance to the park so across a field.

We did the Ma-Ak-Oti hiking trail for the first time today (5.3 miles total according to my smart watch) . The trail is wide enough for 2 people to walk side by side for the majority of the distance. There were a few short sections with stairs and steeper hills, but overall it wasn't overly strenuous. The views of the river were great! We just followed the mowed trail, there are not a lot of signs pointing you along the way.

Me and my husband just rented the York cabin for a couple of days, and it was so very peaceful. The beds were very uncomfortable I recommend bringing a mattress pad with like memory foam. The cabin was clean and peaceful. My favorite part was the fireplace easy to use, it has a remote.

Was there for the bluegrass festival. Beautiful area full of cottonwood trees. The park staff were friendly, helpful and patient. The visitor center/park office was nice and cool, big and had activities (it was 97 and humid outside). Nice areas for camping and picnic tables. The little amphitheater was nice. Paths were nice and many were cement. Can't wait to go back and stay in one of the cabins or yurts.

We stayed in the Bagnell Yurt and had such a blast! Beautiful location along the Missouri and nestled in among Cottonwoods. When we arrived the Visitor Center was closed, but soon a park ranger came by and helped us get where we needed to be and some more helpful information. I grew up going to this park, but had not been back in many many years—facilities have been upgraded and new yurts and cabins and campsites are available. We did a trail run in the morning and spent some time reading at the Visitor Center. My fiancé was totally impressed and said we’d be back. Thank you for all your care in maintaining this beautiful park!

The park was beautiful however we stayed in Levis yurt and after moving our bedding in the morning found bugs all over the bed. Not sure if they were bed bugs or not but looked like they could be and left right after. We sent an email asking for confirmation of if they were in fact bed bugs and received no response. Will not be staying in this park again.

PS. The jingle dresses in the gift shop do fit American dolls.

Wonderful museum with two different ways to experience Lewis and Clark history. A modern facility with stunning art pieces and displayed artifacts. The other is a short drive to a full size reproduction of L&Cs encampment. This structure is filled with tons of replica items to touch and feel. Our guide was a chipper young lady named Cameron. Gave a nice presentation, answered questions, and added cute little personal remarks about time period comparisons that made the tour fun.

Very nice place that's a lot bigger than it looks. Take your kids and have them do the junior Ranger thing. The oath at the end is awesome, although a little long we loved it as we heard a little girl take her junior Ranger oath. Plus, it's not just about Lewis and Clark. They talk about much more than I didn't know about and about the origins of farming in the area. We didn't go to the ban deck view. Wish we had now. It looked too have an amazing view. Oh, and just give yourself 5 to 10 minutes to get to the fort
They have tours on the hour. We almost missed the turn, if you get to the dirt road, you just passed it. And at the dead end loop there is a beautiful view of the river and lots of paths to walk in the area.

An easy, educational day trip from Bismarck. This interpretive centre is also a rest stop on US83. The museum has done a nice job depicting the events in a chronological manner. There are also ample artifacts, from surveying equipment, weaponry of the time to a preserved prairie dog. Admission also includes a guided tour of the reconstructed Fort Mandan. Although the ruins of the fort are nowhere to be found, possibly due to the change in course of the Missouri River over time, it is believed that the expedition team constructed Fort Mandan in the vicinity of the Hidatsa people.

AMAZING! Had so fun on the tour, the tour guide through the rebuilt Fort Mandan; Grace, absolutely crushed it with information and quizzes.
The interpretive center has a great selection books and the info around the center was vast. I walked away learning so much more than I had previously known. 100% recommend the $8 for the pass.
Every employee loved the history of L&C and so much more. It was truly a pleasure to converse in conversation in history.
Don’t pass out on learning about Fort Mandan and the winter of 1804/05. There is so much more…
Reconstructed fort dating back to Lewis & Clark & now housing a state-of-the-art history attraction.
Excellent interpretive tour of a historic and very important site for the Lewis and Clark discovery of America tour of 1804 to 1806. This camp was the longest site they stayed at (nearly six months) on the entire trip. They befriended many leaders of local tribes. Traded with the native American people. Hunted and fished. This is a great place for families to take children. You can literally touch history. For Active Duty military this is a Blue Star museum site.

We paid for entry to the museum and got our wristbands for the fort. The guide was nice, but he didn't have any extra info when asked questions by our little group. Maybe they should go through their own museum and anticipate questions.
Fort is small. The entry visitor center is small but nice. Nice little covered area near for lunches, etc. Good to know what it was like before they started on their journey. The main interpretive center is bigger and had a lot more than it looks like.

Very interesting and informative! Our guide Eric was so personable and knowledgeable. I really liked the way he let us interact with him and even some of the artifacts.

For Lewis & Clark fans, this is a required stop. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The fort itself is quite rundown, but gives a good idea of the conditions the L&C group faced. There are many good examples of tools, weapons, and clothing from that period. Be sure to visit the nearby L&C Interpretive Center before going to the fort. It contains a great timeline of the expedition and many additional exhibits.
Tim Martin — Google review
We visited the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and admission there includes admission to the fort. Our timing in mid afternoon was fortuitous. An Interpretive Guide was there, having just finished a tour group. He was great about letting us ask questions. So knowledgeable and personable! It's an easy place to visit and if you enjoy large outdoor sculptures, the 1400 pound metal sculpture of Seaman is wonderful.
Sue Berg — Google review
We visited Fort Mandan with our 8 and 10 year old daughters. Our guide was fantastic! He opened all of the rooms in the fort, then took out various artifacts and explained how the expedition would have used them. Touching is very encouraged, as everything is a replica. Nothing of the original fort survived the harsh North Dakota weather. The original Fort burned to the ground.
Using Lewis and Clark's diaries, the fort was rebuilt so that later generations can understand this part of their voyage.
Everyone we encountered at the Fort and the interpretive center were very knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share their knowledge.
If you visit with kids, make sure they ask for the junior rangers program book. Our girls had a blast and earned their really cool badge.

Unique fort replica (@2 miles from Lewis & Clark Interpretive Crt and museum) with history of Lewis & Clark who wintered here from 1804-1805. The museum covers ND history, several local Indian tribes & Lewis and Clark explorers. No discounts but only $8 pp for museum & fort tours. Great gift shop. Park Rangers are very nice & helpful.
Rho M. — Google review
Impressive site to visit the history of Lewis and Clark with their expedition.
The Fort Mandan is a recreation of the original fort that was located a little more up river and now underwater or otherwise not accessible. This site definitely gives the impression of how the expedition lived. Each room of the fort is a particular topic for the tour guide to discuss and illustrate the life of expedition members.
The rooms were very well laid out with re-created artifacts that demonstrate life in the fort. My 8 year old thought this was the highlight of our vacation.
The tour guide was exciting, knowledgeable, and patient with questions. I believe there are several tours per day. We visited on Saturday (last tour?) with only one other party participating in the tour.
There are bathroom facilities that were open and perhaps more that was closed perhaps due to a slow day.
Adrian Nagle — Google review
Lovely fort with a wonderful ranger showing us around on a private tour and answering all of our questions we got.
Doreen Buschhoff — Google review
Very interesting piece of American history. The guides are very informative and don’t melt in 90+degree weather. Lol. You get to see how the fort was set up. In the museum area, there are copies of the maps that were made on the journey. With the tour and looking through the museum, it took about an hour. (This was in the extreme heat of summer) It is not a long walk from the museum to the fort. There are benches in the fort for those that need them. One price gets you in the Louis and Clark interpretive center as well as fort Mandan.

Had a planning retreat up there. It was convenient to have food brought to the gym so we didn't have to scatter. The bar had food, drinks, bingo and E-tab machines. One star is one to many. The service was no good to say the least. Was ok as soon as we walked in the door. Got our drinks (soda). Our waitress was busy talking to people she must’ve known or on her phone or not even in sight. After waiting over 20 minutes for a refill on our drinks (still no food), I took the glasses to the bar. It was at that point, the waitress asked if I wanted refills. She came over with the drinks and told us there was a problem with one of the other servers and that’s why it took so long. Then when the food finally came out, she said there was a problem in the kitchen. The only problem there was, was her. There were 2 tables with people and 2 guys at the bar. 11 people total. Their prices are also sky high. Next time I spend that kind of money for a meal, it better be fine dining with a personal chef. Never again. Don’t waste your time.

The rooms here are clean and the halls are acceptable. The service is deplorable. The man who answered the phone was surprised that I asked to make a reservation, which should have been red flag #1. When I arrived same-day less than 4 hours later, I had to ask another guest where to find a worker. Both employees seemed aggravated by my presence and the first thing the man who took my reservation said to me in person was "you'll just have to wait." Finally, I was led to the desk where the same man said he had ignored my reservation in order to accept a walk-in guest. When I finally got a room and PAID IN FULL, I was told the restaurant would be closing nearly 4 hours earlier than the advertised time. A little while after finding food elsewhere, I returned to my room and walked in on someone else -- the owner had given my PAID room away. He then sent me to a second option that was clean, the bed was comfortable enough. Both the ice and drink machines were broken.

I recently took my 40 students here on a field trip. This had the potential to be a showstopper of a hit... But despite calling ahead in advance, there were no guides or rangers to be found. We entered and visited the indoor center and looked at the exhibits waiting for someone. We finally talked to a human being and they said they had something set up for us in the meeting room. Sure enough there was an AMAZING activity: using plaster to cast footprints from silicon molds. But no adult to tell us the instructions. No directions, no instruction, just 40 styrofoam cups and 40 molds. With no background using plaster, I fumbled my way through experimenting to find the right consistency, students accidently poking holes in the cups, poor releasing molds, and a massive, MASSIVE mess.
The center was nice, informational, and interesting for my 8 year olds. The walk we took to decompress and recenter ourselves was a perfect length. But please, please, send a human to meet groups of people like that. Give us direction. Don't assume we know how to use the materials.

Beautiful park and campground. Two marinas, swim beach, boat ramps, museum. The two sites we stayed on for a week were #129 and #135. Both are pull in. Picnic tables and fire rings on all sites. Huge sites. Lots of locals with boats and plenty of room for boats and vehicles. We had full hook ups, but there is a area with only electric and water but there is an RV dump area. Very quiet. There's a trolley that's free that comes around on Saturdays to go into town.

But in last year or 2 has really not ben maintained like the rest of the park. Swimming area ropes gone and it's all grown up weeds. Diamond in the rough if they would just look after the swim area for families that like that sorta thing. Large park, lots of bike trails.

Bathrooms (Outhouses) were some of the cleanest ones we've seen in a state park! Keep up the lovely work maintaining this nice park!

We were blown away by the amazing staff, helpful rangers and how well the rental equipment and picnic shelters were maintained. We had a group of 30 people and it was one of the best days lake days I've ever had.

We went to the annual kite festival here. It's a 3 day event and is very interesting and fun. Nice view of the lake and a small museum on the grounds.
