Hiking Trails
A bit of of a tough trail for non experienced hikers, but one of the best hiking trails for a majestic destination.
Horalia Mora — Google review
Beautiful trail, now one of our favorite hikes. The views for most of the hike are beautiful. If you're going to the lakes, make a left at the fork and go clockwise. If you do so, the incline will be gradual. If you go to the right, the incline will be painful and more steep for a long stretch. The views are also better if you go to the left. While you're walking uphill, it's always nice to be able to stop and see a beautiful view around you, but the view isn't as good if you're walking counter clockwise.
The lakes are beautiful and different. There is mud between the two lakes, and maybe a bit before/after (depending on which way you come from) the island lake.
We got to the parking lot (outside of peak season) at 7am and there were already several cars there. By 7:30, all of the spots were taken. By the time we got back from the hike, there were cars crammed into every little spot you could think of, and parked down the street. Get here early or you might be fighting for parking.
Either way, this hike is 100% worth it.
There is a pit toilet at the trailhead.
You will see lots of dogs on this trail, and several of them will be off leash.

My husband and I hiked this trail in July and it was beautiful, we loved all the wild flowers on the way to the top. We had to take breaks (we're casual hikers) so I recommend getting an early start. I would also recommend bringing *lots* of water, bug spray and a jacket, the weather can change quickly and even though we started with a sunny day and felt warm at the start, it rained a bit when we got closer to the top and it was pretty cold! One of the most beautiful hikes I've done, highly recommend it for nature lovers!

(Hiked early October 2023) Took this trail to island lake and surrounding areas and WOW it's beautiful. I got here before 8am and there was plenty of parking. When I got back around 3pm it was full. The trails here are really well maintained

This was an amazing hike. Just driving through San Juan and decided that this would be our only San Juan experience and it was the perfect hike that wowed us at every turn. It was stunning. I am a casual hiker and this trail was tough for me. Extremely tiring, quick acclimation, non stop switch backs and dizzying high views. Ultimately 100% glad we decided on this trail although the 550 hwy I could have done without!!
Hunter Powell — Google review
The reason for 3 stars is because of my own demise!! My wife and I were NOT ready for this. We made it to the lower lake basin and almost to the very top but just couldn't do it. If you aren't acclimated to the quick elevation change don't think you can do this. The recovery time gets worse the higher you get. I think we went from 9,850ft to right at 12,000ft in 5 hrs and we were spent. To be honest, the hike down was horrific as well. The sights are beautiful the entire way up though. Good luck!!
Dougie Fresh — Google review
I won a photography contest with over 2500 entries with a picture of Ice Lake. I took it on my phone. That just goes to show how beautiful this place is. I’ll put the picture below.

Parking is scarce, but you can find something. No restrooms on the trail, there's restrooms at the campground at the start point only. Hiking was amazing. Best hiking I've ever done so far. It is tough, but take your time and you will make it. Warning: the section of the trail that connects both lakes is super sketchy, not sure if there was a landslide or something , but people were afraid of it including myself.
Rodrigo Castilho — Google review
It was a really nice hike! We got to the parking lot at 8:45 am and snagged one of the last spots! Would recommend getting there sooner, to beat the afternoon thunderstorms and to get a good spot. It looks like there a lot of people in the parking lot but it wasn't that busy on the trails. There is a bit of elevation climb, but it's gorgeous! There were lots of flowers blooming and the lake was great! Not going lie we are sucking air going up there since we are not used to the elevation!
Dylan Wesson — Google review
Get here before 7am to find parking and to avoid getting baked by the sun.. I took the Island lake - Ice Lake loop. That way you get to see both lakes.
If you go to ice lake first, you'll be discouraged to keep climbing.
It took me exactly 5.5h with all the stops and rests.
As a grown large male I used less than four 500ml waters.
I went early July (8th) and most of the wild flowers were still pre bloom.
The lakes look unreal at any time.
esseGesse Et — Google review
One of the greatest hikes I’ve done in my life. Stunning scenery, multiple waterfall crossings, beautiful fauna and breathtaking views. Then you get to the lakes. The shades of blue and the way they shift in the light.
We were recommended to get off the mountain by midday!
No toilets on the mountain nor many sneaky places to wee as a lady.
There is a steep part of the track between the two lakes. A few people were struggling to cross it, yet it was walkable if you got over the height.
Rachael Holt — Google review
We did Island and Ice lake in July which is a moderate to hard loop. All along the trail were hundreds of flowers. Once out of the woods there is a fork in the trail that is unmarked. Left for Ice and right for Island. The hardest section is between the two lakes. I would recommend bug spray and 2L of water.
Meigan Winfield — Google review
The Ice Lakes area is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Colorado! If you time it right you can see a plethora of wildflowers, the powder blue water of the ice lakes, and so much beauty you won't know how to capture it all! The area can get pretty congested so get out early if you can. The area above treeline is also very exposed so it gets hot up there as well! Bring plenty of water and food as this is a pretty strenuous hike, but it is totally worth it for the views at the top! If you want a wonderful hike that has all the beauty of Colorado in one place this is it!

Best place to park to ride the gondola, it's free!!!! This is also the best way to visit Telluride, since parking is so limited and expensive. Just ride the gondola into town

The San Juan County Historical Society Mining Heritage Center in Silverton, CO is a must-see for history enthusiasts. The center offers self-guided tours with well-preserved period artifacts from the town and surrounding mines. Visitors are encouraged to consider making a donation to support the upkeep of this amazing museum, which spans three stories and provides extensive documentation and exhibits about the area's mining heritage.
Having some time to kill in Silverton before I board the Durango-Silverton Railroad for my trip to Durango, I had the opportunity to walk about the town. It was during my walk that I happened upon the San Juan County History Museum. I assumed that this would be a typical small-town museum and I could easily complete my tour in 30 minutes or less. Boy was I ever wrong. The gentleman manning the gift shop where I bought my ticket was very helpful and informative and gave me a brief overview of what to expect. I began my tour in an adjacent building that was once the county Jail. There are jail cells, artifacts and medical equipment used to treat ill or injured prisoners. From the old jail you make your way down some stairs to an even larger part of the museum which deals with the rich mining history of the area, starting from the early days when mining was largely performed by manual labor all the way up to the largely mechanized mine of the late 20th century. This museum is larger than it appears, and I ended up spending the better part of 90 minutes in the museum. Needless to say, this museum was more than I expected but I highly recommend taking the self-guided tour.
Garry Thompson — Google review
You'll need some time to take in everything. It seems cluttered as there is really not enough space for everything.
Tim C — Google review
After years of driving by, we finally stopped to check out this museum. I’m so glad that we did. At first the price of admission seems steep ($10/adult, $3/child)… but it proved to be well worth it. From the road it looks unassuming, but there are multiple buildings, floors, basements… it is quite large.
It covers Victorian age and the restored old county jail. There’s lots on mining and equipment, even a fully dressed mock-up mine that looks very similar to a real one. There’s town and railroad history.
The rooms are huge with tall ceilings and well-lit exhibits. We could tell that a ton of time, effort, and money went into to this place. The number of historical artifacts is overwhelming. If there was a negative, it would be that not all if the pieces are explained, so are just displayed.
Very well done and worth the stop!

This place is amazing ! Definitely worth a visit. Jail, minerals, mining history. Detailed explanation. A real trip into the past.
ludovic gros — Google review
Great attention to detail! Signs explaining what you are looking at. This place has three floors in two different buildings, almost got lost! Very fun to just walk around and explore!
Also, there is a small gift shop right inside the main door.
Jelly Ko — Google review
Great attraction here in town for those who appreciate history.
Self guided tours, so you can make your own way and take your time. They have done a great job of gathering and preserving period artifacts that are actually from the town and surrounding mines and communities.
Please consider a donation while here. Hopefully it will be here for years to come and other folks to enjoy.
Brandon Cravens — Google review
Very cool to learn about the history of the San Juan mountains and Silverton. So many artifacts from 1880-1920 it really gave me a sense of what life was like back then in a mountain mining town.
Ben Blue — Google review
Such a wonderful museum! So much history! The rocks and stones. The pictures! Mining history. So much hard work. I recommend this place highly. If you love history, you'll want to visit this gem!

This is a must see if you are in Silverton, CO.
$10 per person...and that money is well spent on upkeep of this amazing museum! Looks small from outside but is a labyrinth of information!!! 3 stories, and what felt like a mile of documentation, exhibits, and ...just...stuff! You must see it!

Yankee Boy Basin is a stunning alpine valley that can only be accessed by a 4x4 trail. This picturesque ravine boasts an array of rare flora and fauna species, making it a nature lover's paradise. The trail to Yankee Boy Basin requires hiking up after driving as far as possible, and visitors are advised to bring pants and rain jackets in case of sudden weather changes, such as hailstorms.
Yankee Boy is one of my favorite Basin in Colorado. We always come here every year. The wildflowers here are spectacular if you are lucky you might see wildlife such as bear, deer and many more.

This was a very pretty trail! We attempted it in a 4 door Jeep last year, but had to turn around because it felt pretty sketchy. We returned this year with a 4 door razor and it was much easier! There was only one spot that we ended up on 3 wheels, but it was much easier to navigate in the smaller vehicle.

Beautiful. Really fun road to get there too. We were stopping sooo many times for scenery. Absolutely gorgeous.

Take your car as far as it can go and just hike up -you will love every second of it. Just bring pants and a rain jacket -it hailed on me last week right as I reached the base of mount Sneffels

Unbelievable views! We drove over from Telluride for the day looking to get away from the city and closer to the mountains. It was the perfect choice. The higher you go the more challenging the drive. But the scenery near the top is worth it. 4x4 vehicle with some good ground clearance is recommended and is almost a must for the final leg of the drive.

Bear Creek Falls is a must-see destination in Ouray, Colorado. It offers a spectacular canyoneering adventure with incredible rappels into pools and stunning panoramas along the way. Box Canyon Falls Park is a rocky terrain which boasts an 85-foot waterfall and several trails for hiking. The park also has picnic spots and a visitor center. Visitors are in for an amazing scenic view of the valley from the bridge, perfect for photography. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and worth visiting, however, photos don't do enough justice to capture its true beauty. If you do plan on visiting during winter, be careful due to snowfall.
It was a wonderful hike back to the waterfall. and the view from the bridge of the valley was a amazing photo. Wish I had more time to look the area over.
Jason Armstrong — Google review
Amazing park the water fall is breathtaking!! A great park for hiking around in. You can hike to the bottom of the falls through metal bridges and stairs. The birds are nesting in the summer season and the waterfall is running strong. In the fall time the birds have migrated and the waterfall is not running as strongly but the fall colors all around you are amazing. So grab your camel packs, cameras and your loved ones and have an amazing day together exploring this wonderful park!! Stay safe and have fun everyone!!! Keep exploring ☺️

This is our second time visiting Box Canon and the falls and it is splendid, the waterfall is a sight to behold with power that never gets old.
We took the high bridge this time & traveled through the tunnel that connects the Ouray Perimeter travel.
Be prepared to climb & enjoy every minute!
Brandy Leonard — Google review
Great place to visit. Don't attempt the hike up to the bridge and tunnel unless you are able to handle steep terrain and uneven trails at times. If I were to do it again I would have continued back to town vs returning against the arriving masses. Best advice is to go early to enjoy relative solitude.
James Cooper — Google review
We parked at the parking lot for the ice park since the road was closed due to snow and walked down to the Nature Center. The Nature Center was not staffed, so we bypassed the entrance fee and strolled right in. The fees would've been $5 for 4-17 yo, $7 for 18-62, & $6 for 62-74 yo. It's free for kids under 3, seniors 75+, and military. If you go straight down the stairs to the left, then you can go on the metal bridge that leads to the falls. Feel free to explore and go down the metal stairs to rest on a small bench or get a closer look of the falls at your own risk. If you go up the stairs to the left instead, then you can go on the high bridge on the very top that has pretty views of the water/rocks and a cave tunnel that leads down stairs to a short trail. Be careful though - the trail eventually can lead down to private property where there will be signs. You can hop on the Perimeter trail from here too, which is cool. Overall, it was a great memory of Ouray and I would recommend
Katherine Boulton — Google review
Absolutely Amazingly Beautiful! Be super extra careful if there's a lot of snow!!! We fell a lot lol but it was totally worth it!!
Sam Pucket — Google review
Easy parking with bathrooms and picnic areas. There is a small fee you can make at the office. The path to the falls takes you along the sides of the rock then down a staircase to the falls. It was incredible to see! If you look out towards the trees at the bottom of the stairs you’ll see an old piece of machinery on top of a boulder. After the falls I took the path above and was in awe of the views. Highly recommend making a visit!
Kasey Docherty — Google review
Great spot for video amd pictures. You may get wet so be prepared. Gorgeous park and vigorous waterfall. Worth the visit.

Beautiful must-see area. We visit here every chance we get. We went in December this last visit, and it was a beautiful icy wonderland. Be careful in the winter, and please pack out your trash. There are a lot of stairs, but they are absolutely manageable. There are a couple of short hiking trails here to see the bridge above the falls, which is part of the Ouray Perimeter Trail and a nature trail that gives a little information about the plants in the area. The small nature trail is easy, but the one to the bridge requires a bit of climbing. This really is a beautiful treasure, and the falls are so loud. Fun for the whole family!
Diana Orr — Google review
If you have the chance to come here please do. It is definitely worth it. Photos just cannot capture how beautiful this trail is.
Michael Singer — Google review
There is quite of a hike involved with going to the bridge that goes over the falls but only a few steps to get to the base of the falls. The entrance fee was only $5. And the lady working there was super friendly and helpful! I HIGHLY recommend seeing the natural beauty!
Dan Newman — Google review
Wow! A must see when in Ouray. Wish they allowed dogs but it is a pretty narrow walkway and that would just make navigation too complicated. Easy walk to see the main attraction or hike 200 steps for a different view above or 50 steps down to get an even different view.
Scott Latimer — Google review
Amazing in town hike and waterfall. You can drive south out of town and go to the parking lot or you can hike up the “ car exit” road from in town. The hike to the lower falls is very easy. The upper falls is a moderate hike. We did it with 3 little kids with no problem (3,5,7). It’s worth the hike up to the upper falls. The bridge and cave are fun for the kids
Jake Zobrist — Google review
Loud waterfalls! Yeah. Keep in mind there are metals cages, walkways made of metal gratings, high bridges and a dark tunnel! Lots of fun. Happy people. Exhaularating in some places. Small wildlife, squirrels and chipmunks and some birds. Light rain in August 2023, price reasonable $7adults at time of this review.
Tammy Jones'Lee'Hafer — Google review
Hiked in January, packed snowy trail, sturdy metal hand rails, and/or cables. Not too crowded, the views are amazing. Crews were completing some welding and maintenance on the final path on the lower trails leading to the falls, so viewing there was not spectacular. The upper high bridge is worth the steep climb.
Kendra Decker — Google review
Out of this world amazing!! We visited this place in Dec. Snow and ice made this more of an out of this world experience! Not for the unprepared. Steep and slippery accents. Once you reach the Falls, be prepared to be completely awe struck!
Jamie Quint — Google review
You'll not believe once you get into the falls area how powerful the water is. Truly amazing. Hopefully on your visit, the gate is open so you can walk all the way back. If not, take the stairs down atleast. You can check out the falls from below and take in a little mist.
Matt Cloutier — Google review
This place is beautiful and a must-visit when you are in Ouray. Went there during Winter and would like to come back in Springs, Summer and Fall.
We went down to the falls first then went up to see the view of Ouray.
R M — Google review
We went during December and trail is closed however you can find parking at bottom in town. Make sure you park way of traffic or you will be ticketed. It is a hike up to Box Canon Falls but worth it. No restrooms are opened and you are basically on your own. I highly recommend this falls. Also look for Box Canon sign light up on side of mountain at night.
Christy McCleese — Google review
Really pretty area, hard to beat the mountains in these parts. I was only there in summer where you can hike some trails (they want you to buy tickets), but in winter you can ice climb the canyon!! Would love to see that in person. Just outside of town, not a far drive at all. Worth checking it out!
J. Barrett — Google review
Definitely worth seeing if you are visiting Ouray! It’s a very unique waterfall in a canyon that you can see from below and above. The hike to the bridge above is a little strenuous. The parking lot is somewhat small. It is possible to walk from town but easier to drive. The Box Canyon is a part of the 6 mile perimeter trail that around Ouray.
Animas Forks is an abandoned settlement that can be found in San Juan County, Colorado. It is considered a ghost town and is situated approximately twelve miles northeast of Silverton. Scenic wilderness area with a reservoir & swimming beach, plus yurt camping & year-round birding.
Ridgeway State Park lies in a dry, scrubby area. Most of the vegetation is typical of what you'd find in the high desert steppe or plains. Plants like: piñon, juniper, bitterbrush, sage, cactus and such dot the landscape. Animals are plenty and we often see cottontail, eagles, deer and occasionally, coyote. We only live 10 minutes away but we love this place. It's typically quiet, easy to get to with easy parking. Trails are simple and parallel the reservoir.
There are three different access areas with camping and one has a boat launch.
Daily fees are reasonable. It's a good place to kill some time while in the area.

We can't wait to come back. We did a couple programs with the kids at night and they enjoyed. Fishing, hiking, parks, and more. Stayed in a few camp sites and all were good, some great. Amazing camp hosts...we miss you already Tom and Peg (and Jerry and Cheryl!). Carrie, who ran the educational programs is a gem. So great.

Beautiful park nestled among the mountains. There is a $10 entrance fee but it’s worth the price of admission. There are nice trails, a swimming beach and boat/watercraft rentals if you don’t have your own. We rented a kayak in the Dallas creek area and spent an hour on the lake taking in the view and the cold water.
Caitlin Rodgers — Google review
It's one of the nicest state parks in Colorado!
Park is surrounded by Ridgway reservoir with stunning views of the Sneffles mountain range to the south and the Cimarron mountain range to the east. You can launch power boats and kayaks at the marina or drive to a 'beach' area to launch or rent a kayak (summer only).
There are plenty of treed camping sites to include electric and water, walk-in tent sites in Elk Ridge campground, and Pa-Co-Chu-Puk campground near the uncompahgre River and 3 yurts in Dakota Terraces campground. Note: This is a VERY popular park, and you need to make reservations months in advance!
Only 6 miles to the small town of Ridgway with great restaurants and access to hiking/biking trails. 10 miles to Ouray, the 'gateway to the San Juans' and also known by locals as "little Switzerland." Fabulous area to explore the great outdoors by hiking, biking, and jeeping and soaking in the hot springs in Ouray. Something for everyone to enjoy!
Photos include one of the yurts in the park. The rest of the photos are from hikes in the surrounding area.

Great spot to pull over and enjoy some fresh air, cool off your feet, take a walk, or enjoy a picnic. Park is well maintained and the lake is pristine. Plenty of picnic tables throughout the park and a couple of restroom facilities. The “wildlife watching” area didn’t turn up much wildlife, but other than that the place was a home run.

It was our first time at this state park and we really like it. Even it was cloudy day and beach was empty we got to swim in the lake, got ice cream and went fishing at the evening (did not anything but still had fun). Campsites are huge. Bathrooms clean.

Went paddle boarding and loved this lake! The no wake area is very large, so it’s nice going all over instead of strictly by the shore to avoid speed boaters. You have a gorgeous view of the mountains. Lots of parking spaces right near the shore. It is super dog friendly, which we obviously loved.

Great spot with water, electricity and clean warm bathrooms
Given the season, there were only a few other campers in the entire loop.
Some are pull through sites, some have a shade structure, but not all of them
It was very clean and well kept, if you don’t have a account, you need to set one up for reservations because they are done online

What a beautiful State Park! Nice trails, the Uncompahgre River running through was beautiful. The main visitor center was filled with information about the park that you could read and any questions you might have the people there would gladly answer. All of them were so friendly and helpful.

A truly beautiful spot. You can take your car right in the dry parts of the lake bed and launch a boat. Dogs are welcome. Also there are covered spots for picnics. There is plenty of space. You won't regret it.

Nicely developed state park. Only 4 stars due to lack of a bike path from CGs to day use beach. Elk Ridge CG loops are nicer, shaded in the trees and have no hwy noise. Also a cell tower is up there on Elk Ridge that does not reach much into Dakota Terraces CG

A new favorite camping spot for our little family! We enjoyed the large pull thru camping pad with electric, plenty of restrooms nearby, many easy trails to hop on and explore, and the lake: wow!!! The lake is just GORGEOUS! Bring your kayaks, paddle boards, peddle boats...whatever 'floats your boat'! The weather is cooler than areas north of it like Grand Junction, but the water was still nice and warm for our early August visit. Definitely recommend!

Great campground with lots of space between neighbors and the view from the overlook are amazing! The hosts were very sweet and accommodating!
The Ute Indian Museum is a unique establishment dedicated solely to the history and culture of the Ute tribe, who are indigenous to western Colorado. The museum contains an impressive collection of artifacts and ceremonial dress, as well as being situated on the homestead of Uncompahgre Ute chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta.
Great smaller museum telling a history that has been ignored. Recommend a couple hours if you want to watch all videos and read the stories.
K Ga — Google review
Good effort to present the history and life of the Indians. However, not much awareness of the duress these people endured during the western occupation by the colons.
Also, the exhibit is quite crowded, thus a bit confusing. A path with more chronological order would benefit to clarity.
But overall it is to be recommended to visit, and see the outside exhibit as well.

Small museum with informative videos, and artifacts highlighting Native American history plus gardens outside. There's a hallway filled with woke art but it is easy to skip. The rest of the museum is historically objective. Worth visiting if you are in Montrose.

This Museum is awesome. I have lived around this area for years and I have drove by this place a lot. I never stopped in to see it. My sister in-law had her wedding here and it was a beautiful place for a wedding. The staff was amazing.

It's a wonderful museum, so much to see. There are tv"s where you interact with and are able to watch many different things about the Ute tribe of the history and many of things. Many benches to set and take in the views. Outside was also very interesting and informative. A great museum.

There is much care and beautiful effort put into the displays. The attention to details is magnificent. Even the videos and movies tell great stories that need to be told. Some of them are heart breaking, and yet make you think about the details even more. The education is well worth the price of admission. They even teach classes such as moccasin making, beading, and others.

One of the best museums I have experienced. I have gone to the new and polished Oklahoma tribal museums and this is more interactive. Really helpful videos throughout and hands on activities such as making beading patterns with glass stones. Worth a stop, even for 30 minutes

We really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the Utes— Colorado’s oldest residents. They are the only Indian tribe in the US that never migrated and lived continually on their ancestral lands in CO for over 1000 years until forcibly relocated to southern Utah in the mid 1800s.

I walk with the dog here in the mornings. Its quiet and peaceful. There is a wooden walkway that leads to the Uncompahgre River. I've spotted cranes, geese and ducks on the river. Lots of people like to start river trips from this spot. On the other side of the road is the museum. The architecture is interesting and the museum has informative displays. Children enjoy exploring the many yurts built on the grounds. There is a trail beyond the grounds that lead to Riverbottom and Cerise Park.
Great place to take a walk & get some exercise. There are a few exercise equipment to use around the lake. There is a spot to take your kids to play. Several seating areas, some with charcoal barbecues. Great walk for your dogs, too.

Beautiful grounds with trails, lake, playground, and more. It's definitely a great place to spend the day at. Also, if you travel in an rv, they also have a dump station for no fee. Unfortunately there is no rv camping in the park. They also have nice picnic area and firepits for any type of grilling, and it's also dog friendly #BeeHippyLifestyle

A peaceful and quiet place to relax and enjoy nature and enjoy watching the abundant waterfowl. Watch as a Great Blue Heron patiently waits lakeside to catch its next meal. You may even get to witness the skill of an Osprey or a Bald Eagle as they drop out of the sky to pluck a fish out of the water.
Picnic tables, playground, restrooms, walking trails and a fully fenced in dog park.
This was one of the coolest museums we have ever been to! Our guide was super knowledgeable and Mr. Richard was an amazing person ! He started his collection at 4 years old !! 🤩 😮! We learned about Bob (his story made me cry) and got to see all the artifacts and rooms. My mom even got a visit to the dentist ;). If you’re in Montrose, go visit ! You won’t be disappointed!!

We've gone once a year as we've been able, and there is always something new to see. Knowledgeable and friendly guides, with the option to not take the guided tour as well. This collection is fantastic and you can miss something easily, so multiple trips is really what it takes to get a true appreciation for what's been amassed. Original buildings that have been moved, etc. Great trip for kids and adults alike.

This was a spur of the moment stop along our road trip. We circled back to see what this place was about and were just in time to join the next tour group. Everyone that worked there just seemed really amazingly friendly. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough! The tour ended up being about 3 hours! And there was still so much to look at but we had to get on the road. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that loves antiques and old buildings. All the buildings are authentic and were carefully refurbished. This whole thing was put together by one man who started his collection of antiques at age 4! The collection is quite large and curated well! It was really enjoyable and we appreciated it a lot! It was well worth the price of admission!

We have traveled this nation extensively and we love to visit museums. This is one of the most extensive and complete collections of Western America we have seen. The buildings, artifacts, knowledgeable and kind guides and learning environment is incredible. Our children were just as enthralled as we were by the wide variety of antiques and history lessons. We are big history buffs, but learned and saw so much! This is a absolute must-see stop! Worth a trip to Montrose simply for this museum alone. We feel lucky we “stumbled” upon it!

The Museum of the Mountain West was one of our best stops. We met the owner Richard Fike, who talked to us about how he started collecting items at age 4. He is now 83. His collection of old western artifacts is unbelievable. The tour guide Jim Wendt was an excellent guide. A must see if you're ever near Montrose, Colorado 😁

Hands down one of the best museum experiences I've ever had.
I had to wait for a girl scout troop to clear out before there was anyone around to help me out, but eventually I was able to secure the self-guided tour as I was told the hosted tours are about 2 hours and I didn't know if I wanted to spend that amount of time there after pulling over on a whim.
The owner/founder is a retired archeologist who started collecting at the age of 4 and he has a deep love for western history. I highly encourage everyone to take a trip there and hear him speak before he retires.
From what I was able to hear of the guided tours, the hosts are incredibly knowledgeable and you can tell the entire museum is a labor of love for them.
I will definitely try to make it back next time I'm through the Montrose area.

My Wife and I had a great time here, everyone was extremely nice. The way this Museum is set up really walks you through the times and places of the past. The knowledgeable tour guide (I recommend the all take the tour to get the full experience) introduced us to many facts that were previously unknown. Had a great chat with the owner. He’s been collecting for lots of years and is a very respectable person. We’ll be back for sure. If you’re into the History of the Old West. This is the place for you.

If you’re on the fence about visiting this museum, *definitely* do it, and *definitely* get the guided tour! This was an unexpectedly fantastic and amazing museum! Our family really enjoyed our time here. I would 100% recommend getting the guided tour for a few more dollars - you learn so much more and go in many of the buildings you can’t go in on a self-guided tour. Jim was SO knowledgeable and we went early in the morning (about 8:30/9am on a Wednesday) and ended up having a private tour for about 1.5 hours. Jim knows SO much about everything and had an answer for every single one of our many questions about the artifacts. I thought this was going to be more of a “road side attraction” type place, but it turns out Mr. Fike, the collector/curator of all of the items, is an actual renowned archaeologist and everything is historically accurate and original. It’s like stepping back in time and seeing things exactly how they were in the late 1800s. Plan on spending at least two hours here for the guided tour + time after to walk around and see the additional buildings. If you like to read everything and are interested in history, you might want to spend more time than that - there is a lot of very cool stuff to see (including a hunted house!)

The kids really enjoyed being able to go into all the different buildings outdoors, and they had lots of questions about the items on display indoors and out. Even without a tour, they learned plenty and enjoyed the freedom to explore. We adults appreciated the care that went into collecting and arranging the displays both in the surprisingly extensive indoor facades (two little streets worth) and in the historical buildings outdoors, as well as the stories behind the preserved structures. We spent about an hour-and-a-half browsing through local history here. Prices for adults were pretty standard ($15 with tour, $12.50 without), and kids 6-17 were only $5.

Not much of A history buff, but this museum had alot of antiques and I would recommend that you visit this place if you have the chance!!
Stayed 3-nights at Silver Thread this past week. Very quiet and well maintained campground. Full Hookups. Spaces are not on top of each other, and many are well shaded under tree cover. Some reviews stated that the curves are quite tight for larger campers. While true, if you take them wide and go the required 5mph, they are easily navigated. While we were there the first evening, some clown drove fast with a long trailer and cut a corner too close, hitting his trailer into a tree in the reversal area nearby our camper. Clearly his own doing. My wife and I plan to visit again next year. Was very satisfied, and there is much to see in the area.

Since my daughter was 11 yrs old, she made me promise her that when she turned 18 we would skydive. Today was her 18th birthday. The promise she had me make so many years ago had been forgotten by her. But I didn't forget.
Wow! The only thing that comes to mind is phenomenal! This experience is one of those epic moments in your life. that you never forget!!! Isn't that what it's all about? Creating those memories for our children to always look back on. It was a beautiful day. My daughter and I flew today. What a bonding experience that was! Thanks.Ben. What an awesome time. Wonderful and safe experience! Thank you to the entire team for an AMAZING time.
We made a week long trip from NY to CO just to take our 3 oldest, 14, 13 and 10 years old, skydiving. As such we reserved our jump about 8 weeks ahead of time and ensured all of our paperwork was in order BEFORE we left NY and also made room for 2 alternate days in case of bad weather. Thankfully the day of the jump was a BEAUTIFUL day.
The office manager Bri was very helpful from my first phone call through a few e-mails to my 4th phone call, she was great. Additionally all of the other staff and other skydivers at the facility were helpful, friendly and encouraging to the kids, high fives and fist bumps abounded.
Ben, the owner and instructor for the kids, was awesome the entire time with the kids. He interacted with them very well from start to finish. Thanks for taking great care of my kids Ben!
The end result is that all 3 kids would JUMP at the opportunity to skydive again, can't ask for more.
Thank you again to the entire USA team!

In addition to the wind, we were completely blown away by the view of the pink looking veins in the mountain across the canyon, a 2,250-foot wall of rock, and then the Gunnison River at the bottom, sparkling in the sun. A truly incredible view. Make sure to find the Angel's Window.
Be cautious, as part of the viewing area has a railing, but some of it is unprotected. That first step is a big one...

The views from the narrows on the north rim side are absolutely breathtaking. Standing on the edge of the narrows overlook and looming over the edge will captivate you, but be very cautious of loose rocks and big wind gusts!
Lodgelike facility, open year-round, offering maps, a park video & Black Canyon panoramas.
Beautiful and unique sight to behold, it’s hard to see the magnificent and breathtaking
depth that these canyons are, it was an easy walk from the visitor center to a great overlook. There is some informational content in the visitor center. There is no water up here. Outhouse was clean and heated

The visitor center was partially closed due to the delta variant of Covid on 8/3/21. There were Rangers and information outside; limited, masked entry into the gift shop. The Rangers were very helpful despite the challenges. Absolutely stunning and dangerous place to visit as it’s easy to slip on the loose soil/gravel near the edges of the canyon, so be cautious as ppl fall hundreds of feet every year.

The Park Rangers at Black Canyon of the Gunnison are all incredibly kind and helpful. Our car broke down and we coasted into a spot right by the visitors center and were there from about 10a to 4p waiting on a tow truck. Our cell service was nonexistent and they let me use the phone numerous times. At one point a Ranger by the name of Paul brought us some freeze pops since we had been sitting in the heat all day.
While this was not the visit we hoped for, we greatly appreciate the kindness of all the rangers stationed at that location on 9/7/21.

As always I checked in at the Visitor Center to get the cultural and geology history to better understand the national park during visit.
Qihua M — Google review
We went to the South Rim with our 40 foot class “A” motorhome and tow vehicle to the south entrance. I would caution anyone traveling there with anything more than a medium class “C”. The road is narrow and access to the Visitor Center doesn’t allow for anything longer. The camping sites are also a limiting factor when there. A better option would be to find a nearby RV campground and use the tow vehicle to get to the center. Beyond this the National Park is as wonderful as the reviews and comments suggest. We highly recommend for a visit for its history, beauty and a hike!
David Hesterly — Google review
The main attraction is the views of the canyon from the trails just outside the visitors center. The parking lot tends to fill up, so we parked at a pull out that was about a half mile from the visitors center and walked along the rim trail to the center. You get many different glances at the gorge, and it is not as crowded as the area right around the visitors center.

5* for the kind gentleman at the park store and the park. 1* for the nasty lady working at the park store at 4 pm on 09/29/23.
The gentleman was very kind and informative. The park is beautifully maintained. The lady working in the store was mean and bitter. I was looking at a shirt, waiting my turn to turn the display while another couple was looking at them. The mean park lady told me to just turn the display. I answered that I didn't want to barge in front of the couple. The couple and I were now uncomfortable. I walked away to look at the books. The mean lady followed and watched me in the store. When the display was free, I turned it to get my size. The mean lady walked over and turned it hard to the extent I had to quickly pull my hand away. Then her phone started ringing pretty loudly. The kind gentleman told her that her phone was ringing. She sarcastically said she was a mediator and that it was one of her clients and that if they called to schedule again, she'd make them wait until November.
I don't know how she got that job at the park, but a nasty, bitter person like her would be fired from the firm from where I'm retired.

Excellent location for this visitor's center! Inside there's the typical ranger's desk complete with maps and all the information you could need; a store; and some fascinating information regarding the geology and history of the park. Just outside there's a picnic table (having it labeled as a picnic area on the park maps is a little misleading) and some benches, and a boardwalk a short distance down to an amazing overlook. There's also 2 separate restroom buildings, so potty opportunities abound here!
For what it's worth, we did just about everything the south rim has to offer (short of going into the canyon) in under 8 hours or so. Kids did the junior ranger program, we hit all the overlooks and did the Warner Point Trail, as well. Did the Rim Rock Trail from here to a little ways past Tomichi Point, but turned around as it was getting dark. Also drove down the East Portal Road and got as close to Crystal Dam as we could. Skipped the Uplands and Oak Flat Trails, but did stick around after dark for a pretty cool astronomy program near the campground.

Nice little vistor center with some interesting facts. If it's a busy day, prepare to park on the main road. They have a nice lookout on the back side of the vistor center that is worth checking out.
It is such a fun place that has several different buildings you can explore that give you a glimpse of historic times. We really enjoyed seeing the silos, ringing the school bell, and the arrowhead displays. There's a house full of dolls, a saloon, cabin, main street, visitor's center, and more. We went on a rainy Saturday before Christmas, and the ladies on staff (as well as Chico, the dog) were so friendly and inviting. We had the place to ourselves, and it was very reasonably priced. I recommend stopping in when you are in the area and taking the self guided tour of Pioneer Town.

Pioneer Town is such a great place to see some historical buildings and learn a few things about what things used to be about 100 years ago and how much things have changed.
They have everything you would commonly see in a town a like police station, jail, fire station, salmon, barber, post office, barns and church.
It’s was great to see the doll house that’s the building we stent the most time in.

Curecanti National Recreation Area is a network of three alpine reservoirs that offer recreational activities such as boating, canoeing, fishing, bird watching, camping and hiking. It is situated on Ute land and has stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The Dillon Pinnacles are a popular hiking spot with several viewing points along the road. While water levels can decrease in summer like most of the west there's still much to enjoy throughout other seasons.
This is one of our favorite spots to pull over and hike and/picnic as we head west from Denver. The water dries up a lot in the summer (like most of the west) but it's prominent in other seasons, giving you gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape. We love hiking to the Dillon Pinnacles, and there are plenty of spots where you can pull off on the side of the road to view the pinnacles from afar. Curecanti is on Ute land.

This is a beautiful recreational area for camping, fishing, boating, and living. The Gunnison River flows along Route 50 into the Recreational area and fills up into a lake. The water level is low at the lake but you can still put your boat in. The National Park Service visitors center is brand new and just opened recently. Camp sites are plentiful. Enjoy!!!

Windy mountain beaches. Lots of likable spots around the lake, but I liked the Bay of Chickens best. Cool, calm water lapping up the shore, facing the western sun, armada of chicken cloud-gods soaring through the skies—what’s not to like?

Absolutely gorgeous, the train, the dam, the river, creeks and hiking trails were amazing. Well worth the drive out there. Free and much more scenic than Black Canyon National Park.

It's not bad, and the hikes down to Curecanti Creek and Pine Creek were nice, but this area **as it exists today** with damned dams and all, per Marc Reisner in "Cadillac Desert," shouldn't exist. Add in that National Recreation Areas like this, designed around damned dams, shouldn't be in the National Park Service because they violate its Organic Act, and you have an additional issue.

It's great to have an electric hookup option in the shoulder season. We were able to roll up with no reservation in April and easily grab a spot on the electric hookup side of the campground. Limited facilities otherwise (no water no toilets) but everything we needed was there when we needed it. The main loops were plowed as were many options for spots.

Very petty and interesting place. I wish they still allowed visitors in the dam.
The campgrounds are also closed.

This place is great. Try to get out th we re atleast once a week on the weekends to fish wakeboard, and water-ski, and knee board with my wife and our friends. Boat inspections are fast and Jason at Elk Creek inspections is a pleasure to deal with.

Curecanti is a beautiful area. My hunting club and I hunt elk there. This summer I took a buddy hiking there and we had a great time. It doesn't matter if you are a hunter, an angler, hiker, camper, or road tripper. If you like the outdoors, there's something here for you. Take a whole day and drive up the drainages. My favorite is red creek.

Go enjoy yourself, it's a great place. If you don't have fun here, then you need better travel companions. And please 🙏 clean up like you were never there so everyone after you can enjoy it as much as you will.

Some sites have restrooms, some have covered picnic tables. Most have incredible views. There are a lot of options along the Gunnison river, the Blue Mesa Reservoir basins, and heading to the north rim of the Black Canyon along CO-92.

Didn't do a ton here - we were mainly in the area to visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison, but saw we could do some kayaking here. Which we did, successfully, with rentals from Lake Fork Marina.
We also stopped at the Elk Creek Visitor Center to learn a little about the area. Our kids were able to complete the junior ranger program (which they've enjoyed immensely at other NPS-operated properties over the past year) and earned a badge, plus a couple others the rangers working here gave them for other programs offered.
Another stop worth making is the East Portal. This is accessible only by entering through the National Park's entrance, which is a pretty substantial drive away from Cimarron and points east (especially if you have to wait in construction traffic on 50), then taking a steep and winding road down to the river's level. But also a really cool canyon experience without having to hike down into it (and the permitting required for that).
Also, the area's official map notes the Cimarron Visitor Center is open seasonally, but I'm not sure what season that is. The official website only mentions the Elk Creek VC. And when we stopped by on our way to check out the Mesa Creek Trail, it was a ghost town, and while the building appeared occupied-ish, the grounds weren't as pristinely maintained as you usually find at other NPS sites.
When I feel like there is nothing else I can see to make me fall deeper in love with Colorado… here comes Azura. Y’all I don’t know why it took me so long to find this piece of heaven. It’s like you travel to Europe, but I take it back Azure can definitely compete with any European winery. The views is absolutely amazing 😻 the tastings are a great deal where you try 4 for $5. Coco is the official mascot and he makes sure to show you around the grounds. Cachi also enjoyed the location. Make sure to add this location to your bucket list. We want to try the other wineries but I am not sure they can beat the view. Also the service is friendly and very helpful.

Tasty wine, INCREDIBLE view! Can't go wrong with $10 for 4 wine samplings (and you get to keep the wine glass), pretty great deal. The winery has a yacht club just a short walk away and it was so much fun. We read about an RC sailboat race and were so pleasantly surprised when they told us we could participate! Jack with the yacht club taught us how to "sail" and we had an absolute blast. Super wonderful place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, would highly recommend!

I absolutely love this place. Views are unworldly, food was top notch, and wine was extremely tasteful. This place really is a slice of Italy in CO. Everyone there is so nice and can tell that it's very family oriented by the way it's run. They have a true passion in the things they do and it shows. I will be back without question.

Absolutely 10/10 experience. The winery is set in the most beautiful location with a spectacular view. There is ample seating, from patio couches, tables overlooking the edge, and waterfront chairs, all of it excellent. We were immediately greeted and the service was superb. The wine was very good and we both found something we liked easily. My only regret is not buying more bottles to take home!
Brianna Staubo — Google review
First of all, approaching the winery was like rolling up to an Italian villa, with beautiful grounds and lush landscaping. The wine tasting was very reasonably priced, with the ability to sample 4 different wines for $10, and even included the glass. They were all very well done, and I honestly liked everything I tried. I settled for the yacht club red for my full glass, and settled down under their pergola patio, which sported incredible views and offered shade as well. We were really impressed with everything, and while we didn’t get food, we came back with 2 bottles of the Yacht Club Red, as it’s only available at the vineyard and not distributed locally. Guess just a good reason to come back! Azura was by far the best vineyard of all the ones we tried in the area and we’d absolutely come back!

First off the staff is very friendly and proud of their establishment. (as they should be) we LOVED the atmosphere and view. This place is classy and well thoughtout. My reason for giving only 4 stars is the lack of snacks. We shared 3 bottles of wine during the several hours there and hoped for a few more food options. This place is still a must... Make the time and come here... Bring snacks and sit back to enjoy the breathtaking sights

We stopped by to taste some of your local wine and spent the afternoon. We had planned on visiting many other wineries around the valley but decided that after we were treated so well at Azura we’d just head back to Crested Butte. Thanks for making it personal and engaging with us on our visit!!!

One of very best in the region. Whites are a standout, incredible Gewurztraminer. But the reds are great too. Great tasting wine, beautiful setting. There was a snack platter available as well when we were there that was really good, too. Don't miss it!

Very interesting location, with a small stone cottage with friendly service and a nice wine tasting. Excellent "Il Diavolo" (not a beautiful name, but a great wine), a Port-like wine. Other good wines are available. You need to drive a gravel road for about 1 mile, the road is not wonderful but it is short and you can drive slowly. Another nice place to go in the very interesting winery network of this area.

We did a side trip up to this charming little winery on our way to Crested Butte, not knowing what a gem of a place we’d find. We've been on at least 1 guided trip with Robby every year for the last 7 years and let me tell you, he's the best. Spring, summer, fall or winter. Trolling, jigging or ice fishing. Lake trout, brown trout, rainbows or Salmon, sport fish Colorado is the way to go.
Recently I took my daughter out for her first ice fishing trip. I couldn't have picked a colder day as the temperatures at the start were -20. Robby took excellent care of us and we had a fantastic fishing day. She was so amazed with the snowmobiles, shelter and all the equipment that she didn't complain about the temperatures once. We caught a ton of Salmon and trout, even ended up with a couple lake trout.
I've fished all my life and am happy to say that some of the best experiences I've had have come when I use sport fish Colorado. I will continue to use them and highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a great experience as well.

Robby Richardson with Sport Fish Colorado is the best fishing guide in all of the western slope area, not only has he been featured in several magazines, voted best fishing guide in the gunnison valley he was also just recently featured on fox 31 news doing a special on ice fishing. Not only is he the most professional guide out there, it's refreshing to see someone with the utmost integrity and genuine passion to help others achieve their goals!!

My 11yo daughter and I have had 2 trips with Robby. Both were ice fishing for lake trout. The first we went to catch numbers and Robbie put us on fish right away and the action was good the whole trip. The second trip we went for a trophy. While the action is a little slower, Robby did get us into big fish. Two of which qualify as fish of a lifetime. We highly recommend a trip with Robby.

Living in Florida and being used to catching large offshore fish, I really didn't expect much more than just a good day out on the water with Sportfish Colorado. Boy I couldn't have been more mistaken. This has been some of the funnest fishing I have done and with such talented guides working for this great company. I have now taken over 5 trips with this company and our family looks forward to many more trips in the future. I would highly encourage anyone looking for an honest, family friendly and incredibly talented fishing outfit to not overlook Sportfish Colorado. Thanks again guys, looking forward to our next trip.

Kebler Pass is a scenic gravel road that stands at an altitude of over 10,000 feet and provides breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains. The area is serene and tranquil, especially during the night when it gets dark. It's a popular camping spot although it may be challenging to find available spaces during peak summer weekends. Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the exceptional hiking trails available around Kebler Pass while cyclists can navigate through the gravel road on road bikes.
We drove our camper-van eastbound on the Kebler Pass Road from CO Hwy 133 in August 2023. The road is unpaved most of the way, and is, generally, in good condition. Spectacular Colorado Rockies scenery all along the way.

Perfect location for fall colors! whole drive is beautiful and doable in a 2wd vehicle. High clearance is not needed.

Kebler Pass is the best place in all of Colorado to see the changing Aspen and fall colors. They have removed most of the mining paraphernalia so you won’t see a lot the history that made the west. Another drainage, Ohio Pass is near Kebler Pass and makes for a great loop to Gunnison and then the historic town of Crested Butte. If you are in the area you will surely want to see these spectacular mountains and alpine scenery.

Incredibly BEAUTIFUL drive through the mountains! Drove from Marble to Crested Butte and WOW! I can only imagine how amazing the fall colors are with all the aspens. Any type of vehicle can drive this - very well maintained road that switches between gravel and pavement. Can't wait to come back!

Great place to go for when there is fall colors. Small hikes here and there also great car camping if you can find a spot. It’s first come first serve when it comes to camping spots, well the free ones are. In my opinion this probably the best spot to go see the fall colors. It’s not too crowded on the trails but the roads probably so since the majority of the people who come here don’t travel more then 10ft away from their car

We stayed in 149 and the heat in the floors was glorious. We took full advantage of the hot tub despite (or maybe because of) the fair amount of snow that fell while we were there. Our family of 11 was perfectly comfortable there. I will say, however, if you have more than 2 couples the bed situation can get a little weird. It all worked out for us though. We had a wonderful time!

The cabin we stayed in was perfect for the three of us and our dogs. We ate at the restaurant our first evening and cannot find a bad thing to say. Friendly staff, great service and the food was excellent. We will be returning for longer next year. A boot tray and wader hanger would be a great addition to the cabin.

This adventure was a blast and skillfully done. Staff knew what they were doing and could answer questions if needed. The river ride was an adventure and we felt safe the whole time. And we were able to still get our photos after a year had passed! We would definitely do this again if we come this way and recommend to anyone. Very professional. Thank you!

Stayed here several times on work trips to Gunnison. We got the luxury of staying in the humpy (cabins are named after flies) and this cabin is impressive. Great for staying with kids 2 queens in the loft upstairs and a separate master downstairs. With recreational activities all over this is a great place for a vacation. They even have a private fishing spot on the river that only guest have access to.

These people are the real deal. The property is clean and well taken care of and the rv spaces are nice and with plenty of room. The location is also perfect - we went off-roading and hiking and everything we wanted to do was close by. The restaurant was still open for a few days while we were there (at the end of the season) and their food was really terrific!! Our family had a great time in the few days we were there! We would love to come back someday.

We had a wonderful trip here the river and scenery are beautiful! We had cabin 13 which had plenty of beds but sharing one bathroom can be difficult. Cabin 13 is directly on the main and very busy road. Cabin 13 also has a leach field in it’s backyard where some of the caps were broken so we did not sit out back at all as the smell was overpowering and did not open the windows. We were not given any heads up on the leach field being there so that was disappointing because we payed so much more for a larger cabin that would fit our family, when our friends all had river front cabins. We loved the restaurant and property in general, just wish we had a different cabin.

It was the best decision for our first time Colorado trip. The staff was so helpful and friendly. We couldn’t get enough of the food from the smokehouse. The fly shop had so much to offer. Willow Fly Anglers guide Audrey led us straight to so many fish. There wasn’t a day we weren’t catching beautiful brown and rainbow trout.

We stayed in one of the cabins by the river. They are like tiny houses, very small with just enough room...mostly. I'm 6'4" so things were a bit small in the cabin for me personally. The covered deck was really nice and there is a picnic table out back (it was covered in snow while we were there). Close to the river. It is a bit of a drive to either Crested Butte or Gunnison. I did not get cell service nor WiFi at the cabin. The only WiFi they offer is unsecured. Not bad, but probably won't come back.

Signed up for the Garlic Mikes float. The restaurant was outstanding. On the boat they put 8 full grown older adults on a raft that would comfortably seat 6 at the most. 4 would have been even better. We were so heavy the guide couldn't effectively navigate the river. We were very uncomfortable the entire trip.

Wow!!! What a day this was. The staff were super friendly and the river rafting we did was simply AMAZING! Vito our guide was simply a great guy with so much knowledge of the area it was bursting through like the waves he guided us through! He was also a Jack of all trades as he was the van driver, the river guide, the trainer of several new recruits AND a comedian! It was a BLAST to have such a great time with the staff and the experiences had this day! The gift shop was a bit sparse for items I wanted. But we’ll stocked for the normal vacationer. Thank you for a great experience!

We really enjoyed our stay at Three Rivers! Our cabin was such a comfy and quaint little space, our kids LOVED the loft! The cabin came with everything you'd need to prep your own meals, although you may want to take a stroll to their restaurant because that was pretty darn good bbq! The cabin was generally pretty clean and maintained, although they require a little TLC and maybe a little updating. Just two cent, not a deal breaker, but small stains in the carpet take all of two seconds to "Resolve" (lol, see what I did there?), and a squeaky, springy mattress shouldn't be a think in 2023, overall small potatoes. Three Rivers is located in relative close proximity to all kinds of fun things to do, which is great. That's why we, and all of our great neighbors stayed there. Not to mention the great wifi, that surprised us, it tends to suck in similar places. Would we return? Heck yeah, overall, great experience!

Not happy at all with the rooms. My little cabin was almost 300 per night and I walked in and it was 85 degrees Fahrenheit (seriously). I called the front desk and they said there's no air conditioner but that it would cool off at night. It did cool off but was so hot I couldn't sleep till well after midnight.

Best experiences! So many hikes to choose from, delicious food, & best of all river rafting. Enjoy the beaty of Colorado in a safe, family friendly environment. Cabins provide all your essentials along with a neighborly feel. Minus the talent show, staying here is the closest to the 1950s Catskills as you can get.
There are so many activities, fishing, fly fishing, hiking, & river rafting/kayaking. Each visit there are more experiences. This time we experienced river rafting. The best guide ever- Geecho- takes you down the Taylor River with just enough thrill & safe feelings. I took the plunge into the cold mountain waters with my son. my son & husband "road the bull" which is setting on the front of the raft bronco style. You not only get the best experience, but with the photos - OMG - you take your professionally captured memories home.
I had a wonderful trip in late January/early February. I went during the week, it was very uncrowded, no lift lines. Employees were friendly. Snow was great, well groomed runs. They have two high speed quad chairs at the base which get you to the top of the mountain quickly.
I have read all sorts of bad press about Vail Resorts ownership and mismanagement. I witnessed no problems, I think the locals naturally are adverse to big conglomerates buying their resort. The town of Crested Butte down below is a short and easy drive with lots of neat and funky bars and restaurants and shops. If you want to escape the crowds and have more laid back atmosphere than Vail or Aspen, Crested Butte is the way to go ! I stayed at the Grand Lodge and it was a nice property, only a five minute walk to the lifts.

It is so nice to see an employee that is helpful and caring about his job with this great resort. Thank you Vail resorts for another wonderful experience!!! EPIC!

This mountain has everything from beginner hills to extreme advanced mountain terrain. The chair lift staff are amicable. The base of the mountain has several ski shops and several restaurants. It's only a couple minute walk from your hotel room to the chair lifts. There are free busses that run every several minutes from the resort to the nearby downtown area that open up your options for food and beverage. One of their ski shops does board and ski maintenance such as wax and sharpening, and were able to get my board done overnight. Great place to visit!

Loved this beautiful mountain. There’s a good amount of wide-open terrain for training and plenty of advanced runs. Heads up, it's a bit isolated, and a good portion of the staff/ski instructors go out of the way to make sure you feel unwelcome.

READ IF YOU ONLY WANT TO RIDE THE LIFT TO THE TOP DURING SUMMER- Beware! I wanted to take my family to the top of Crested Butte to have lunch. Went to the desk to pay for the very expensive $39 per person fee to ride the lift one time. I specifically asked the seasoned adult staff member who was selling me the tickets about the restaurant at the top of the lift as we wanted to enjoy a nice meal at the top of the mountain. He said the restaurant closed at 4pm and provided instructions on which direction to walk and how long it should take us to find it once at the top. It was 1:30pm. I paid the $200 for the 5 of us to ride the lift as I thought it would be a special thing for my family to do. After arriving at the top, we began to head into the suggested direction. After wondering around for an hour in the blazing sun (as there are NO signs directing walkers to the restaurant) we learned the restaurant closed earlier in the day and was not even open! Frustrated, hot, and hungry, we all rode the lift back down. I went right back to the ticket office to confront the staff person who sold me the tickets. He reminded me that he used words like should, might, ought, and could and that he made no promises and would not stand behind the information he provided me which is why I bought the tickets in the first place. I asked for a manager who was ironically standing right next to him and who had already heard my disappointment about what happened. She rudely spouted back about some fine print located within their policy and that I was just buying a one time trip up the lift and not a guarantee to an open restaurant. She was not willing to accommodate me in any way. LESSON LEARNED>>Crested Butte staff will tell you anything you want to hear to deceive and mislead you into buy a lift ticket. If they even take the time to respond to this review, I’m sure they will reply with some hollow apology and mention some pathetic policy as to why they responded the way they did. Crested Butte only cares about scamming you out of your money and not if you are happy as a patron. AND THEY CERTAINTY ARE NOT CONCERNED ABOUT DOING THE RIGHT THING! Staff is not equipped with accurate information to answer your questions. They act like they hate their jobs and don’t even want to be there. It is so sad that managment supports their staff by allowing them to treat their customers this way! Crested Butte staff has no clue what is happening at the top of the lift, do not trust them and purchase tickets based upon the details they provide. You have been warned!

Crested Butte is a wonderful ski area. While I was there, conditions were excellent with fresh powder the first three days. The Saturday lift lines were expected to be the longest, but it was way better than ski areas closer to Denver. The other days... We got so many runs in because of the short lines. It was fabulous.

honestly feel like the place was better before Vail bought this mountain. considered giving you 3 stars but your employees deserve 5stars. so because of them you got to keep a 4star review.
still love the spectacular views on the mountain.
feel like with only a small portion of the mountain being open the tickets should be way cheaper than they are. kind of ridiculous the price for the lifts and runs that were open.

Absolutely amazing resort. Wide trails, great snow, fast lifts, cute ski town, breathtaking views. Not at all crowded, never waited more than 10 minutes for a chair lift on a peak season weekend.

Love the mountain, the people and the town! Service is a little lacking due to the worker shortage. Since Vail purchased the resort, you can tell things are in transition and a lot of the original appeal of CB is lacking. We stayed at the Grand Lodge for Spring skiing and it's always a tried and true place that's perfectly located for skiing, shopping and transportation at Mt. Crested Butte.

First time at Crested! We stayed at the Grand Lodge thru Airbnb. The only reason for the 4 stars for rooms is the beds. It's sad that the Airbnb owners think that the cheapest hardest mattress is OK, for what is paid a good pillow top mattress would be recovered quickly. Onward! The short distance to the base lift was fabulous! We had 5-8" of fresh powder the first day and perfectly groomed runs the next! The rental at the base was helpful and easy to work with. There is a bus service, FREE, that takes you into town and back. In town we ate at Stash Pizza and Bonez, both were amazing and offered Vegan options! Crested even has their own local brewery, Irwin Brewing Company! I had their Mexican Lager at the mountains base and it was wonderful! I wished I could find a way to get it here in Kansas. All said, I'll be back!!!

Stayed at St Moritz apartments which was ski in ski out. Ski school for kids was very convenient and had really good teachers. 4 ski days and never got bored. The lines were short. Max of 5 minutes. Often just skied up to the lift. I will definitely return.

BEAUTIFUL mountain that wasn’t too busy on 12/26! Very friendly and welcoming staff. Plenty of greens and blues open, with a few blacks groomed as well. Enjoyed the umbrella restaurant on the mountain too!

Crested Butte is a nice mountain with all levels but is on the smaller side. The views are simply amazing. The town is quaint and prices for everything is reasonable.

Great skiing. Got EPIC passes for after Christmas for a couple days. Stayed in Almont. The mountain was well staffed. Staff was friendly. Ski lessons were good. Lift lines moved along. Has slopes for every skill. Enjoyed the wide open runs. Some were more narrow than our family preferred (Gunsight). Ate at the Umbrella Bar (brauts) and the line crawled. It is probably hard to keep buns moist at altitude, but staff kept the water jug full and the bathrooms were fine. Enjoyed the Painter Boy runs numerous times.
