The Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum is a museum which preserves the history of Lowry AFB operations from 1938 to 1994. The museum has a large collection of aircraft, including American bombers and space vehicles, as well as an excellent research library. The museum runs educational programs such as Wings Aerospace Science Program (WASP), Kid Space, and Air & Space Camp for children of all ages.
Very well done. Self-guided tour let's you get up close and personal with all the aircraft. Starting with the B-52 outside to the B-1 Lancer inside, it is a walk through aviation history. I mean seriously, they have a B-1 inside the building. The planes are meticulously restored and very well displayed. Admission is very reasonable and and you are not rushed at all. There were a lot of people there when we went but it never felt crowded. If you are even mildly interested in aviation, this is a must-see.

There is a plethora of information and an impressive display of aircraft at the museum. The volunteer staff have a great deal of knowledge are are very friendly. I have to say that since I have been to other museums (Pima in Tuscon & the Smithson in DC) I cannot say this is the best I have experienced. I know that this is a great collection for our location so I am rating it 5 stars. Very interesting & informative for all ages ..... I loved it!

There's a plethora of information available as you walk through the museum. Almost every aircraft has some interesting details about it. It was cool to see some Star Wars models. They even had a model of the inside of the ISS station. You could also get on a flight simulator that costs about 10 bucks. Great place to bring the kids to do their activities. They had paper airplanes and paper rockets 🚀. Overall, fun place to visit 5/5.

Wings Over the Rockies Event Center provided the perfect backdrop for our recent event, and we couldn't be happier with the experience! From start to finish, the staff went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was taken care of, making the planning process a breeze. The venue itself is absolutely stunning, with its unique aviation theme adding a memorable touch to our event. The spacious layout allowed for seamless flow and accommodated our guests comfortably. Additionally, the amenities provided, from audiovisual equipment to catering services, were top-notch and contributed to the success of our event. We received nothing but positive feedback from our attendees, who were impressed by the venue's ambiance and professionalism. I highly recommend Wings Over the Rockies Event Center to anyone looking for a unique and memorable venue for their next event. Thank you to the entire team for making our event truly unforgettable!

I went to the museum or specifically for the candle light concert, that was happening inside hangar 2 of the airfield museum.
I find it very clean and lovely.
We were able to see part of the museum and airplane's.
It was very clean, warm and well maintained.
I definitely find it interesting and I would definitely visit the museum Only.
Great experience overall.

We attended a concert called "Candlelight: A Tribute to Taylor Swift at Wings Over the Rockies Air Museum". The venue was super unique. We had a chance to visit the museum before the concert. Great hangar showcasing various aircraft. The live musical performance was magical, the musicians were extremely talented. All the candles made it exceptional.

I went here on a Thursday and really did not have to wait due to purchasing the tickets through City Pass. Additionally, they gave me an additional 10% discount on all gift shop items with purchasing tickets through City Pass.
The Museum rhas many different variations of planes and models that were cool to view. If you fully immerse yourself in the experience, it should take about 2 hours to complete.
Overall, I would I highly recommend to everyone to visit as it was a great learning experience.
Great Job! Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum.

What an amazing performance! If you get the chance, absolutely go! My wife is a cellist and I’m a bassist and as musicians, we loved the talent every member of the quartet brought to the table. They all had their own features and their own moments they took the lead. It was all impeccable! Great intros and humor from the quartet members, the phenomenal acoustics of the airplane hangar, and the delicate ambiance of the candlelight made this an experience to remember. We loved it!

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid after moving up to Colorado from Atlanta Georgia I always liked coming here and seeing the old airplanes and other aircraft that they have here I noticed when I was here on the 23rd of September of this year that this place has changed significantly since I was here ten years ago and that it looks a lot better than when I first started coming here back in the early 2000s and what I mean by that statement is that back then I noticed that the building had a more run down look to it unlike now where it looks more modern but also that was back in the early 2000s the place had been abandoned by the U.S. Air Force a little over 10 years prior I also noticed that some things were missing like the astronaut hanging from the ceiling and the glider that looked like a giant bird I also noticed that the museum is only in one of the two hangars I don’t understand why they didn’t have it in both and build a rectangular building down the center of both buildings connecting them and having an even bigger museum but whatever it doesn’t matter the flight simulator was incredible other than the 12 dollars it cost to ride it the x wing was really cool to see back when I first started coming here I remember there was an older lady who was at the gift shop I don’t remember her name but i always remember her being very friendly with me and my mom And while on that subject the gift shop back then had much better stuff unlike when I went this past time where it looked like it was full of just regular generic stuff you would see at just about any gift shop the only thing that looked appealing to me was the die cast hot wings planes I even bought one of the die cast planes I ended up getting the space shuttle but I guess you don’t go to museums for the gift shops but for the exhibits other than that it was a good experience I bought a. Membership so I’m definitely planning on returning hopefully with my two younger brothers who have never been here before but I know they would enjoy it just as much as I do this place honestly made me remember how much I love aviation

So great for everyone! The early aircraft here help you appreciate all the modern advances. I really appreciate that. They describe the basics of a jet engine, and principles such as left in a way that was really easy to understand. I felt like I left a Museum with new knowledge and not just a fun experience… but I did have lots of fun, too. The admission price was well worth it. The staff is friendly and the bathrooms were clean. Easy parking.

It was an incredible experience. I attended a private event. It was an excellent venue! All the staff was great. Everyone was engaging and knowledgeable. I saw display of items I had only seen in private collections before. I would make it a point to visit.

What a great exhibit. I'm only giving 4 stars because the mezzanine wasn't open so I could look down on the F-14. My first love. There were several planes we hadn't seen before and a good variety oof fighters, bombers, experimental. And it wasn't really crowded during the week so it was easy to take pictures. The staff was very informative. Easy parking.
C W — Google review
Went on a Monday. Plenty of volunteers there for information but almost no visitors. We took our time and read through all the displays as well as were able to really look at the aircraft. Gift shop is small but well stocked and there are several flight simulators which require payment. Mostly contains military aircraft but has a good smathering of others. Some really interesting planes here. You can easily spend several hours here.

An amazing place with planes throughout the history of mankind's time in the air! Lots of historical information throughout the museum. Fantastic staff! Extremely well-kept facility! I recommend giving yourself at least 3 hours to view and explore everything. Worth the cost! Great little beer garden with lots of food options next door!

Great place for kids and adults alike. Spend about 2 hrs, abundant parking with brewery and restaurant right next door. Great location, must visit with a lot of airplanes to see with weapons. Friendly helpful staff.

Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum offers an unforgettable journey through aviation history.
From a wide array of aircraft and engines to vintage communication systems and boiler plates, jet engines the museum showcases the evolution of flight with unparalleled depth. Visitors can immerse themselves in the past with hands-on experiences like cockpit simulations, making it an engaging and educational destination for aviation enthusiasts of all ages.
A must-visit for anyone with a passion for flight and innovation.
Entry Fee was $20.

This place is a wonderful tribute to our air force throughout the years. Coming from a military family, I appreciate the history lessons. If you enjoy reading through the exhibits, give yourself extra time.
My first visit was early 2000s. Since then they have closed the steps that allowed access to view the cockpits. The gift shop has more trinkets for kids than anything else. Very few gifts that have to do with the museum or the air force.
Stephanie S — Google review
Not what you think. Very simple hanger of planes. Probably awesome for the plane and aerospace enthusiast but nothing else for others. My kids were excited at first but then it got boring really fast. The simulators had a 2 hour wait and cost extra and the ones that were on display were out of order. I do not recommend this place. We should have gone to the nature and science museum instead- more to see and do.
Viva Nsair — Google review
Went to a candlelight concert here and it was such a cool experience! The venue is unique and the performance was amazing as well! You can walk around and see the museum part before getting seated for the actual concert. Very cool!

We LOVED this place. It was very reasonably priced, easy to purchase online tickets, easy to find and we had a blast exploring. While it’s not a huge museum, there was a lot to look at and a few options for VR experience and a couple ride experiences. My son was 16 so this is great for kids of all ages IMO
Shari Morris — Google review
Great place to visit. There was a lot to do and learn. My husband is an aviation enthusiast and my daughter is getting into it. It wasn't very busy and the staff was very knowledgeable. Besides the VR stuff I think learning more about the Berlin drops was one of my favorite parts. Definitely worth the stop and we will be visiting again.
Kaydee Barker — Google review
Excellent place to go with the family. This museum has a ton of aircraft to include some iconic platforms that are super neat to get close to. I recommend bringing snacks and water if you have kids, the place is huge and no real snack bar. Make sure you park in the museum parking and not the Extra Space Storage parking lot.
Jeff Paul — Google review
This place isn’t as big as Palm Springs or Pima, but the planes and helicopters on display are almost in flight condition, with all the cockpit avionics in place. My wife arrived on an open cockpit day, with the actual pilots of the planes talking about their experiences and answering questions.
I’m only giving it 4 stars as the day we went has a drone competition running which felt like all the planes had been push back and squashed together to make space in the middle for it.
The old control tower was also a disappointment as it was just an empty room, it felt light being in a studio apartment and the views we were sold of the mountains didn’t really exist.
The B-1lancer was the star of the show and it’s nice there are two levels to view the planes from. The staff are really nice and the entire museum is indoors, so it’s a great place if the weather is bad. There is plenty of parking also. I just wish there was a bit more on display and the shops sold kits or models on the planes on display - which would have been a nice touch.

It’s a place to go when you are in Colorado.
First and foremost, the wings at Wings Over Rockies left an indelible impression on my taste buds. The flavors were exquisite, and the perfect balance of seasoning made each bite a delightful revelation. I must commend your talented kitchen staff for their culinary expertise.
Beyond the culinary delights, the atmosphere of your establishment is nothing short of remarkable. The attention to detail in the decor and layout creates an ambiance that is both inviting and comfortable. The knowledgeable and friendly staff further enhance the experience, providing excellent service that is second to none.
Moreover, I was thoroughly impressed with the cleanliness and organization throughout the premises. From the entrance to the dining area, everything was immaculate, ensuring a pleasant environment that truly enhances the overall dining experience.
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude for the promptness and efficiency in arrangements. Despite the popularity of your establishment, the wait time was minimal, a testament to the excellent management skills of your team.
All in all, Wings Over Rockies exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I highly recommend this extraordinary place to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. Thank you for providing a haven for wing enthusiasts.

This was a calming, yet invigorating experience that kept me enchanted for the whole 60 minutes.
If you enjoy Vivaldi's 4 Seasons at all, this unique candlelight concert in the Air & Space Museum does not disappoint!
Be sure to arrive early enough to check out the museum. We were pleasantly surprised to see an X-wing fighter amidst the exhibits.
TIPS:
If sitting is a challenge, bring a cushion as the chairs are not comfortable.
Be sure to arrive early, the concert starts at exactly 9:15, and the lights go out at that moment.
Aurora Reservoir is a sprawling 800-acre water body offering various recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, and non-motorized boating. Visitors can enjoy paddle boarding or rent kayaks to explore the reservoir. The park also features an archery range and picnic shelters for gatherings. While it can get busy during peak times like July 4th weekend, the water is generally clean with designated swimming areas and lifeguards on duty.
This reservoir is a great place to spend time with family and friends. A group of friends and I went fishing and had a great time. Bathrooms were clean and the staff was friendly. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a good place to spend time outside.

As a native of Colorado, surprisingly, I've never been here. I came out for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of open space on the beach and throughout the park. There was plenty of parking, paved ramps leading to the beach, and not too many people swimming in the dedicated swimming area. The restrooms were clean, and so was the beach. There were several lifeguards on deck. You can also rent shaded gazebos for parties and whatnot.
Lorenzo R. C — Google review
My favorite place to hike and fish close to home, always clean bathrooms and trails, the rangers and staff make you feel welcome and the most amazing they will move out of the trails making sure you and your dog are safe. They take always time to answer and educate yourself about this beautiful place in Colorado.

Great place to catch some sun. They have a beach area. You can rent paddle boards or kayaks per hour. Kayaks are $20 an hour. The time flys so keep track of your time on the water. Lots of parking. Definitely highly recommend this location to chill with family or friends. Come check it out to cool off.
Zesty Zebras — Google review
Busy on July 4th weekend. Water appears clean. Swimming area is small and crowded but a separate lap swimming area was available. Lifeguards were on duty. $10/vehicle to enter. Kayaks/paddle boards available to rent. Electric motor boats only. Dogs allowed on grassy area only (not on sand). Families bring tents and grills as well as speakers so expect dueling soundtracks. Bathrooms are gross but not terrible (not the worse that I’ve seen at a public beach) and only foot showers available.
Jennifer Le — Google review
An incredible reservoir/beach/park that has everything you need for a great weekend beach visit (for Colorado). A purchased day pass or season pass is required to get in, but the season pass is very well priced for a whole year of access to this body of water! Went last week with our dog to learn the area and it was a great time not even getting in the water at all. This weekend we went out early to go paddle boarding/kayaking and the experience was next to none. Beautiful calm blue water and great views of Colorado that stretches for miles completes the experience of a great boating session! I anticipate many more visits here as this small little area packs a lot of fun!

I had a great time with my family. There is a beach with lifeguards. Children's playground, places for cooking meat. Everything is clean and tidy

Fun sandy beach for a summer swim. Water in July was a little cool but perfectly swimmable. There's a playground for little ones and separated shallow wading area, swimming lanes, and boat area.
Scott Woods — Google review
The reservoir is a staple in the community. I was a little surprised to see that they raised the weekend price to 15$ instead of the standard 10$ no matter the day. regardless we took our paddle board, our kayaks, canoes and dog to the beach. Dogs are allowed as long as they stay on the opposite side of the white fence ( not on the actual beach) but it’s still pretty close to the water line where we were swimming/using the water products. There is many people on the water using kayaks and canoes, the same rules stand that only electric motors are allowed , nothing with gas or chemicals like that. Good to know that they continue to care for the well being of the water quality. The quality of the bathrooms were also quite nice. Very clean and multiples stalls available. Very nice place to spend the day with family and friends.

A definite respet from the daily grind. Quiet and quant during the week. Lively and happening on weekends. The lake is amazing... especially without motorized boats... a very tranquil experience paddle boarding. Great picnic places and a beautiful walking trail around the lake.

The stunning lake boasts crystal clear water free from gas motors, making it the perfect spot to catch a glimpse of a giant rainbow trout. With two state fish records already under its belt, it's only a matter of time before this becomes a gold medal fishing spot. The eight-mile loop surrounding the lake offers breathtaking views of the natural surroundings and a plethora of wildlife sightings. Keep an eye out for deer, antelope, coyotes, snakes, bald eagles, and a variety of fascinating water birds that call this area home. Each moment spent exploring this beautiful landscape is sure to be unforgettable.
Brad Hutchison — Google review
Absolutely the best place to go!! It wasn't crowded at all. The water levels where low but what can you expect when there hasn't been any rain. The beach was clean and there was life guards and park rangers on duty. Everyone was having a good time.Glad I found this place.
The Cherry Creek State Park is a great place to explore the outdoors in Denver. The park has many activities such as fishing, hiking, biking and swimming, which are all great in the warmer months. However, because it is located around the city, it can get a bit noisy at times.
A beautiful state park in Denver. Especially beautiful in the fall when the trees are changing. The walking/cycling trails are really relaxing to take, and the beach is nice. The lake is cool as well, and is a good place for paddle-boarding and sailing. I’ve never camped here but the campgrounds look nice, especially for cookout style camping. Forsure a great little spot to try out if you live in Denver or are just visiting

Excellent place! Extremely pleasant camping area. The representatives are useful and pleasant. The camp hosts were excellent. Our site was truly perfect and faultless. There are a lot of bicycle and climbing trails. There is an exceptionally huge ocean side region with a lot of regions to excursion. Mainly, there is by all accounts some wrongdoing in the recreation area. There are various signs posted about keeping things secured, particularly bicycles. Be back soon.

Very beautiful park. I absolutely love the prairie dogs!!! Definitely the highlight of the trip. Walked my dog along the path and she loved seeing the prairie dogs as well. Lots of picnic areas by the lake. We had a nice lunch there. They have Porta potties.

Feels great to recreate! Cherry Creek State Park is full of walking, driving, biking paths. You need a sticker to drive a car in, but it costs only about $3. I've visited a few different spots within, and it's great to enjoy sweeping views of the mountains while visiting. Many benches located throughout, great for viewing wildlife like ducks, birds, geese, and a random buck or two here and there. It's a well used area but you can still manage to find a trail that can make you feel lost. .

This park is GREAT. Boating, camping, fishing, Bbqs and just a great little place nestled away. I paid $11 for a car to get a day pass and it was an all day thing. Taking photos and just taking it all in. Great place to bring the dogs or/and the kids.

The beach by the lake is great! Nice and helpful staff. It was a good time watching my young son play in the sand and watch the boats come in and go out. The wildlife is very diverse even for being in the city. When you are in the park you don't feel like it is in the city.
Dylan Beazley — Google review
Love this park. Some areas are much more well kept when it comes to trash but overall this place brings me much joy. I enjoy viewing the water with the mountains & Skyline & playing I SPY with wild animals here. We've seen deer, rabbits, hawks & other beautiful birds, fish, coyotes, fox & more here!
MsToxiic — Google review
I visited in autumn for a short day hike. For a long stretch of the trail I walked, there were tons of adorable prairie dogs running around just off the path. Seeing their little colony in nature was the highlight of the trip. Other than that, I didn't see many super compelling landscape features. The area that I explored was fairly flat and dry, a typical (if well-preserved) prairie landscape, with not much in the way of flora. The experience may be very different if you come to camp or go on the water, but I'd only be back to find those prairie dogs again.

10/31/21 - it was cold. Nice place, around the city. It has a lot of entrance. Almost all trees leaves are gone. Great place to fish, walk, bike, etc…..mostly during summer even swimming. Right now it’s quiet, you will mainly bird sounds. Pelicans and seagulls are together in one area.
Joseph B — Google review
Great bike trails, running, walking, etc. Also features a swimming beach! Certain trails you cannot bike on, but are great for walking or running. There are picnic benches near the lake and lots of places to park throughout.
Entrance fees are included in the colorado state parks pass, or are a separate cost.
Worth it as it is a great bit of nature in the middle of the Denver / Aurora metro. Highly recommend!

At first glance I was disappointed in coming here—especially at the harbour and beach line. Better to head to the mountains. The water is green and putrid, and there is nothing to do unless you bring your own boat. Even then, there are so many hotrods zipping around on their jetskis I could hardly see how that could be enjoyable. HOWEVER, there are some nice bike paths and walking trails that are quite peaceful and with plenty of wildlife, especially birds. If, that is, you can ignore the pop-pop-pop from there nearby gun range

Wow, what an amazing jewel in Aurora. We really enjoyed it, very clean, operational and peaceful.
Lots of trees, bike, walking paths. We spent 4 days there camping just to use our camper one more time before it gets cold. Here are a few pics.

Great place to walk your dog or even walk without a pet. The park is clean, and the lake is great to take your boat out on. There are restrooms, but not during the winter.

We stopped here twice, on the way to and from Yellowstone to use the RV park. It's pretty close to the highway so you can hear the cars from the Gold Rush loop which also felt pretty open. I liked Coyote loop better. Felt more enclosed/private/foresty. The spots are clean and other guests were quiet. We walked around a bit and enjoyed the lake/sunset.

It's Colorado in the plains area so it's a lot of beige most of the year. But the park is a good size lots of little trail areas and a great spot for nature photos. No complaints, just nothing to say Wow! Great for locals but not a place I would take visitors.

Beautiful state park, so relaxing to spend the day. Perfect place to hike swim when it's warm enough, spend time relaxing and enjoying the nature, decently clean, good amount of picnic tables and grills, fun bird watching. Cheap 10 $ fee for the day spent at the lake and grilling with the family. Gorgeous sunsets, and so beautiful in the fall

Here at end August 2023, there were at least 2 roads I'm trying to cross through to make a loop were closed for construction and I had to walk through the dog park to make a complete loop. It would've been super enjoyable if the trails are not closed. It's a beautiful park, especially the flowers under the dam area. Plenty of picnic location available, restroom and water stations. Great place for outdoor activities, people were fishing, chilling, shooting ranges, flying mini planes, boating, biking etc. Very uncrowded, park could've been further utilized.

BE AWARE: Despite being listed as a state park you can access with your CPW pass you buy with your car registration... They will charge you an additional $3 fee here... Seems a bit bait & switch and borderline illegal but whatever. Once you pass them putting their hand out again for money it is quite a lovely state park especially in a Fall afternoon with a few nice trails although some were blocked with "closed" signs

We loved it! Although there was a lot more trash than expected. I suggest water shoes for the kiddos. I saw tons of bottle caps. Plastic and metal on the beach.

This is a wonderfully, clean park right outside of Denver with many options for recreation-biking, walking trails, boating, bird watching, etc. The campground is very peaceful with widely spaced, paved sites! Nice, metal picnic tables sit atop their own concrete pads. This park has a very nice laundry facility with reasonable rates as well! We really enjoyed our time here! My only gripe is that the park’s entrance fee is not included with the camping fee.
Marie Klinikowski — Google review
Beautiful view of the lake with beautiful tall trees covering the campsites. Restrooms are fancy. The park seems a bit upscale from most state parks I've been to. The showers have credit card readers.
I thought it was a beautiful place to visit and camp. I recommend it.
Working farm offering trails & bird-watching spots amid wildflowers, plus seasonal butterfly house.
Trail of Lights is awesome! A decent distance and really well done lights! It was definitely crowded but they also do a pretty good job of staggering people in. I would definitely recommend it for all ages! Be sure to wear appropriate clothes and shoes. There is not a paved path the entire way so it could get a little messy if it rains or snows.

My daughter and I went on one of their free days and had an amazing time. I grew up in Littleton but have never actually been to this location though I have visited the Denver location on several occasions. I must say I think I prefer this location now! It's easy to get to, laid back, tranquil and stunningly beautiful. I particularly enjoyed seeing all of the edible plants worked into arrangements, including kale, cabbages, and a wide variety of herbs. I especially appreciated the kindness of the staff toward the younger crowd. Everyone I encountered was very pleasant, understanding and patient. We can't wait to come back!

We had a wonderful time visiting Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farm in Littleton! The house with antique items was a delightful experience, and being able to interact with adorable farm animals up close was a real treat. The volunteers' dedication and friendly nature made the visit even more enjoyable, as they happily answered all our questions. The Butterfly House was a highlight too, with well-cared-for butterflies and beautiful plants adding to the magical ambiance. There is plenty of space for kids to run around and play and even a dedicated kids area. There is so many neat things to find along the way we find more every time we come. Highly recommended for a lovely day out!

Absolutely beautiful and relaxing place to spend the day! I was impressed with all of the features and the atmosphere. Denver Botanic Gardens was more of a historic sight than bountiful flowers and plants and such, much different than the one downtown. I believe it was between seasons when we went 2 days ago (May 2nd, 2023).
About a 1.5 mile loop, saw a field of open space with Prarie Dogs, was about 50+ of them in this field running around enjoying life, pretty cool to witness from a distance.
Pictures of the house is from when German settlers came and picked that spot for their farm which apparently still feeds a few thousand people. Beautiful day to just spend outside learning something new. If you've never been, worth a visit if in the area. Cost is $7.00 if you're a vet, I think 10 for citizens.

Great place to come with the family, or without, to enjoy the amazing plants/trees/foliage! If you feel like it, you can probably learn something. A special shout out to Elyas who was friendly, knowledgeable, and pointed us in the right direction. Thank you for a great day!

Went to pick up pumpkin at their pumpkin patch. Great pumpkins. Corn maze was fun to escape from. Lots of food trucks, drinks and snow cones. It's a great event for family with kids to hangout and have fun. Lots of activities for kids.
I got here at 9:10am and there was a long line for parking.

We'll have to plan our next visit for a time when it's in bloom however today was still pretty and relaxing. Lots of walking paths, shady places to relax, a small kid's playscape, some animals, and clean restrooms.

I had been wanting to visit this garden for quite a while, and I wasn't disappointed. When I got there, the first thing that occurred to me was how necessary this little oasis from the city was. You hear all the sounds of nature while your eyes are full of bright, vivid flowers in the intriguingly-designed layout. I let my eyes guide me around the garden encouraged by my curiosity. I discovered the garden of irises and lavender, which I can't wait to visit later in the season. Then there was branch-constructed maze that made me feel like a kid again. I wondered over to the native plants and the survival garden, which inspired me for my garden. I stumbled upon a trail that led me to the children's play area with a tree house followed by the stables and barns. There's a little bit of history here to teach kids what life was like when the farm was established. I could go on and on, but I think you should see it for yourself. I'll be back for sure to see the gardens in other seasons.

Simply wonderful! Butterfly garden, indigenous gardens, and farm run by veterans and volunteers. Lots of walking, would make a great outdoor event space. Large scale sculpture by Patrick Dougherty.

Lovely gardens near Chatfield Reservoir. The fall colors were fantastic, in October 2023, and the unusually warm weather made for an easy stroll through the corn maze. Met other, friendly people there and saw a wedding venue in a nice corner (wedding was the day before). Looks like a great place to host events, too, for family or work

Could not love this place more. A cute little farm by Chatfield Reservoir. We recently went during the holiday lights and it was great!! They had local artisans, hot cocoa, and the best caramel apples!!

We went on a perfect weather day. The corn maze had a long and short option. We did both and it probably took us less than an hour at a leisurely pace. Look for and take a pic of the treasure chest in the longer maze to win a candy at the exit!
After, we went on a free (they accept tips) tractor ride that loops around a section of the property. The area is beautiful and scenic. Even though we went in the off season, there were still plenty of beautiful flowers. The butterfly exhibit was closed until May, we went in October.

We love this place. It’s mellow and quiet. Although they did make some changes by the barn and Silo that we thought they shouldn’t have, we still like this place very much. They took away some of the old animal stalls, and other things that show how old the place is. Wish they would keep with the old and authentic.
In the summer you can see many hummingbirds by the yurt. Also by the silo.
There’s a pond in the back that they now have a fountain, it would be nice if they would have some picnic tables( but they don’t) so bring a picnic blanket if you like water to sit by. By the other house on the east side of the property, they have some animals that kids love to pet. They also have massive vegetable gardens.
We have never come in the winter, we’ve only been there spring through fall, but have never been disappointed .

Chatfield State Park is a picturesque location in the foothills of Denver that offers a range of outdoor activities for visitors. It boasts scenic views of both the foothills and Platte River Valley, making it an ideal spot for biking, hiking, camping, and boating. Despite its close proximity to the city, Chatfield State Park provides a true camping experience with clean campsites and friendly staff. The park features numerous trails to explore on foot and plenty of water to play in.
Very beautiful state park. You are able to stay 2 weeks in a 28 day period. We stayed twice for two weeks each. Both sites were very nice. We enjoyed the nice bike trails around the entire reservoir. There are plenty of places around the park to picnic. There are several beaches. We saw deer regularly. We did hear howling at night. One night we suspect a mountain lion got on top of the camper, we heard it jump up there and walk around, and the next morning we found a bloody mess on the roof. We did not see any during the day and there were no actual problems with wildlife during our stays. I would just recommend being safe by keeping clean and food contained. All and all we had beautiful experiences here. The view of mountains in the background is amazing. There are plenty of places to shop and eat fairly close to the park.

My family and I had a great time at the park. The staff was very nice and helpful. We got a snack from the snack bar and the kids had a great time.
There are a few suggestions and a couple things to note. The bathrooms aren't always open. When we got there we noticed the men and women's bathroom were locked. This caused a line to form and a few small delays.
The view is beautiful (especially the mountains!) However, other than that it is a very simple park. There is limited shade and the trails were either overgrown or too short.
I think this is a nice stop to bring your kids and your family for a nice quick dip in the water. There are plenty of activities for the lakes for sure. This is a great place to cool off!

Loved Loved all the trails to walk and the Trailer parking was spaced out very well !! I didn't get to fish, but looked great!!
Many attractions nearby also.

This park has a lot to offer!! Open spaces, swim beach, picnic areas, fishing and other water sports just to name a few. Also has paved walking paths that pretty much circle the whole reservoir. It's approximately 13 miles around. Also has access to other trails not associated with the park.

July 2023 water at swim beach was high. Beach was clean and people were nice and respectful..well minus the random speaker blaring Mexican music at a deafening volume. Parking is not an issue if you arrive before noon on a weekend. There is only a bank of port-a-potties and there is no drinking fountains or rinse showers which is super frustrating.

Tons of people here during the summer months. Long lines just to get in the park. A lot of fun activities like horseback riding, hot air ballooning, swimming, boating, camping, hiking, biking and so much more. Get there early and start have fun.

Been boating on Chatfield a few times, this was the first time I ventured around the lake on the paved path, nearly 11.5 miles if you're interested. I have to say it was quite nice! Very well maintained path suitable for walking, running, hiking, and biking, with plenty of restrooms for pitstops along the way. Just a relatively small section of dirt road on the east/ northeast side approaching the dam, nothing a cold on a bike could not handle. I will certainly return!

All the years I've lived in Denver and Chatfield has been 10 minutes from my house.. I never knew how much fun the camping there would be. What I love about it is you get that camping feel but you're still so close to the city. Very clean campsites super friendly staff. Lots of trails to walk on lots of water to play in. Just a super fun time. Definitely be coming back.

This state park is extensive and has lots of walking trails, horesback riding and picnic areas. The trails however are not properly marked so you may end up getting a big confused. There are a lot of benches surrounding the area to sit and relax so that is indeed a plus. A simple, unassuming state park in the area!

Really pretty and very open. I will say that the line to get in was kind of slow and it was suuuper busy first thing in the morning but, because it's so big it was still easy to find a fishing spot around 10am. I will say because of the boats and the amount of people swimming in non-designated swim areas fishing was harder. Had people next to us that knew we were fishing and they threw a football and ran right through my fishing line as I pulled it in. Guy almost stepped right on my hook. But hey, things happen and it wouldn't have been my fault - I warned them multiple times.
Restrooms are by each of the parking lots and you'll want to bring some hand sanitizer.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Chatfield State Park from August 6 to 20, 2023, and our experience was nothing short of delightful. Nestled in the picturesque landscape just outside of Denver, Chatfield State Park offers a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts and campers alike.
Upon arrival the park staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and readily available to assist with any inquiries. Their commitment to maintaining the park's pristine condition and ensuring the satisfaction of campers was evident throughout our stay.
We were in Loop D, site 166, a back-in site with full hook-ups on a concrete pad, complemented by a serene gravel sitting area with a fire pit and picnic table. The site was long and spacious, well-maintained, and provided easy access for our RV. There was plenty of room to park our Truck and car side-by-side in front of our 5th wheel with plenty of room away from the road. The site's layout allowed for a sense of privacy, with ample distance from neighboring campers. Allowing you to enjoy the view and nature around you.
The amenities include clean restroom and shower facilities, a laundry facility, outdoor vending machines that have a variety of snacks and drinks for purchase, as well as firewood and waste stations. The park's well-maintained trails provided ample opportunities for hiking and biking, and the lake offered a tranquil setting for water activities such as boating, kayaking, and fishing.
One of the highlights of our stay was the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds Chatfield State Park. The sprawling landscapes covered with patches of beautiful yellow sunflowers, scenic trails, and the shimmering waters of Chatfield Reservoir create a postcard-worthy backdrop. Whether you're an avid photographer or simply seeking a peaceful environment to unwind, the park's beauty is sure to captivate.
In conclusion, our two-week stay at Chatfield State Park was a rejuvenating experience. The combination of comfortable camping facilities, stunning natural surroundings, and a variety of recreational opportunities make this park a top choice for those seeking a tranquil retreat near Denver. Whether you're an avid camper or a first-timer, Chatfield State Park offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

This was the first park I visited in Colorado, and it's worth a visit! I went in march about 4 days after it snowed, and got to see a bald eagle and lots of prairie dogs! This park has walking/biking trails, campground, and a field for flying RC planes and drones! Fantastic views of the mountains from anywhere in the park.

I hadn't been here for over 20 years.
Wasn't expecting a full transformation of everything around me. I was just surprised about the water level coming past the trees to the shore. In the days when I went there that was all usable space. Now all that space is taken away and full of people on paddle boards, paddling around in the trees. It's not that I don't mind that, it just seemed like all that space that I used to enjoy was just taken away. It just felt to me driving around this area that it kind of lost its serenity and became a water world.
Chatfield is a beautiful state park If you enjoy paddle boating and boating. There's a good sized beach with food and restroom accommodations coming in from the west entrance giving you wonderful views. There's camping and model airplane flying right when you come in from the south entrance of the reservoir. The winding roads throughout Chatfield have plenty of benches and picnic tables to enjoy. There are two docks to put your boat in. The one dock from the west entrance is pretty basic, were you just ramp your boat into the water. The dock on the south side has plenty of area to dock your boat and storing it there is an option. The views from the top of the damn are amazing and peaceful with benches and picnic tables.
There's also a very cool secluded area on the north side of the damn with walking trails and picnicking areas hidden within the trees. Bathrooms were available all across the reservoir. I do enjoy Chatfield and have been back several times already.
Chatfield is definitely a great place for the family.

We camped 3 nights on C-loop in October. This park is very popular. All of the Full Hookup sites were booked. C-loop is electric only. Fill water tank at dump station as the water spigots in C-loop are designed to thwart use of a hose.
Sites are spacious. Driveways curve alongside the loop rather through to the next loop.

Chatfield is a very nice state park! It offers a lot of different activities for a lot of different levels of athleticism and interests. We went there to stand up paddle board and kayak and found lots of different access points and calm coves to be in that weren't too choppy or out on the main lake in completely open water.
The restroom facilities are clean and the park staff is super nice!

Roxborough State Park in Colorado is a geological site offering hiking trails and a visitor's center. It boasts stunning red-rock formations and wildlife, making it one of the best state parks in the area. The interplay of lights and shadows against the rocks is truly amazing, providing visitors with a unique experience every season. One recommended trail here is Willow Creek Loop, which offers breathtaking views.
Roxborough State Park is one of the best state parks in Colorado in my opinion. The red rocks really make this park special and you have a completely different experience depending on which season you hit the park. The lights and shadows interplaying with the rocks are amazing to see in person. The Willow Creek Loop is my favorite trail here and you get amazing views on the loop. I highly recommend doing this park after a fresh snow because the contrast of the snow against the red rocks is epic. This is also one of my favorite places to shoot in the fall but no matter when you go you will love this park!

I've been to Denver several times but this place was a first and I really loved it! The rocks are dramatic and cast beautiful shadows. We followed the trail to the overlook, which is an easy walk on gravel, and we took lots of pictures. There's a house along the way that appears to be a historic site but it wasn't open, it would have been fun to have visited the inside. The area is supposed to be especially beautiful in the snow with the white as a lovely contrast to the red rocks and also in the spring with green against the red.

Really enjoyed my first visit to Roxborough state park! As most people know, it is a $10 fee to enter Colorado state parks. I went early September, and had no issues with lines entering the park. Nice visitor center with a great, spacious picnic area with a large awning. Restrooms are located inside the visitor center. Hiked the popular Fountain Valley trail and boy did I regret going mid-day! This trail is HOT. The high was 82° and I was drenched in sweat. Minimal shade, with lots of direct sunlight. Hiker beware! Looking forward to returning once fall temps are here to stay!

This park is a gym. It's fun to hike in both the summer and the winter. In the winter the trails are still very well used even shortly after a snow. You don't need snowshoes because of so much use. Some of the trails go up the mountain and some go parallel to the mountain and both have unique views. I would recommend giving this Park a shot if you have a little time.

The Roxborough State Park is incredible - lots of trail options, short and long, easy and difficult. The views of the rock formations and Denver in the background get better the higher you go. The gates open at 7AM - I got there early and was almost the only one on the trails. It does get busy quickly, though. A park pass is required, but it can be purchased at the entrance. It's going to be my new go-to park for hiking and trail running.

My husband and I went here yesterday to end 2022 off right! It was our first time coming here and the park is so close to Denver! It's beautiful and you get to see plenty of red sandstone rock formations. We also saw some deer in the distance and plenty of wildlife trails.
The hikes are all relatively short but you can combine them to get more mileage. We will definitely be coming back here and are excited to try out the other hikes. Might come with our snowshoes after the next storm and see if we can use them.

This is a great state park. It is similar to Red Rocks or Garden of the Gods and had similar rock formations formed in the same way. This park is very protected and they do a nice job encouraging people to leave no travel, stay in the trails and preserve the beautiful environment. There are some nice picnic tables on the visitors center patio to enjoy a picnic. There is no off trail use permitted in many parts of the park. Additionally pets are not allowed in the park. This park has some excellent hiking and views of the rock formations. Every time I have been it has been less crowded than Red rocks or Garden of the Gods however in the summer months I think it is a very highly used park so you may have to wait to get in. Parking lots are small. The visitors center has some very nice and informative displays. The fountain valley loop is a great trail for families and begining hikers. There is a board near the visitors center that displays the conditions of each trail. There are some historical buildings along the fountain valley loop that are cool to see. Great state park!!

Roxborough state park continues to be an amazing park. It's beautiful, well maintained, peaceful, and the main hiking loop is great for all ages. We had a group ranging from small children up to in their sixties. We all enjoyed the hike. Good parking, friendly visitor center, and chances to see lots of wildlife! We appreciated the wildlife log in the visitor center to see what we might be in store for seeing that day.
Expansive park with hiking trails, rock climbing walls, wildlife viewing opportunities & more.
Fantastic area to hike and run. There's a good amount of parking there, with a few restrooms/portas at the lots. A big loop will take you around 6-7 miles, but you can go smaller loops or even a simple out and back - the scenery is pretty regardless. Enjoy some quality outdoors time out here.

Beautiful state park! We explored mostly the surface because our daughter is still fairly small. But she enjoyed the playground and managed to walk down and back up from the creek. There were mosquitoes at the bottom so plan accordingly. Parking is $10 but definitely worth stopping to see all the natural beauty this spot has to offer.

Pros:
Really, really beautiful scenery. Plenty of hikes. There is a dam and you can hike parallel to a creek. At one point you have to cross the creek which makes it a little adventurous. Overall, the hikes are mild to moderate and kids of all ages can do it easily. There are plenty of picnic area, some spots have sheds, and plenty of parking. Dog friendly.
Cons:
Most of the hiking trails are in open so if it's sunny, you will feel the sun. Carry plenty of water.

I thought I'd try a trail run this morning on the 4 mile East trail. I quickly realized that parts of the trail were challenging to find. I was grateful for the piles of rocks/stacked rocks marking the trail. Needles to say it's not a great trail running 'trail' in several spots, but it was a great trail! I'll be back when I have more time to wander in there. I'd definitely recommend it as a hike. I'm adding a few pictures that look like landscape when they are actually part of the trail (they're obviously not the ones with a paved sidewalk or view of the canyon). I also added a quick video from under the bridge, I thought it was cool how they made space to go under the highway. The stacked rocks were my guide! I got a little lost in one area and noticed when I backtracked that the stacked rocks were toppled over, so I really did depend on them. If you hike this trail, watch for the trail markers and give yourself plenty of time, and most of all enjoy the journey!

This state park is the scene of a dam failure in 1933. The canyon is filled with rock formations with Cherry Creek running below, it provides a great habitat for a variety of wildlife. There is a viewing platform near the bridge. There are two accesses to the park, the main one off CO 83 and the 2nd off CO 86 coming out of Franktown. From CO83 you can really explore the Canyon. From the CO86 side, you can see the failed Dam and the homestead. There are several beautiful trails on this side also. Both sides have plenty to explore. You can't drive from one side to the other, but you can hike.

Very near to centennial Colorado. It took me and my son 2hrs 30min to do a loop from castlewood state park parking towards the mountain in middle you see one side of dam and then post looping down and back you see other end of the dam. We also came across a rattle snake on the trail so took pictures and maneuvered around it. It was hot but it rained a bit that kept the temperatures down. Loop is around 6 miles and runs around many bridges with flowing water. Scenes down hill are also amazing. Nice to do this trails over weekend.

This is a beautiful park with a lot of history. My daughter loves looking at the old buildings and the plaques describing what they were used for. There are a lot of trails criss-crossing around so be careful not to get lost. I also love the way the park smells in the spring there are so many wildflowers and Russian olive trees and it smells amazing here. The trails are very easy with slight changes to elevation and only a few trip hazards here and there. Just take care not to go off trail because there are cacti.

What a great find!!! The upper trails are very easy, wheelchair/stroller accessible! Once you go down into the gorge it’s absolutely stunning, more rugged and the stream is so bubbly! I didn’t make it to the dam site..next time! Highly recommend!

Moderate hiking trails (with a lot of paved walkways) through a beautiful state park full of unusual lobed "cobble" rock formations and the ruins of a mass century dam. Because it's a little off the beaten path, there are few other hikers. Dogs allowed on certain trails. And the visitor's center was a delight, with Sid & Nancy (two bull snakes) and Tig (a tiger salamander) on view.

This is an amazing trek around the cherry creek canyon. The trail is known for bird sightings and a great hike. Entry will cost you $10 and they have plenty of parking space and restrooms near the visitor center. Compared to other great trails across the region it may not the best but worth visiting once for an early morning hike. Do not carry your bikes or skateboard.

Absolutely gorgeous area! Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to stop and explore before heading to the airport. The scenic drive was fantastic, low-stress, and riddled with wondrous sights to behold! The plains appear vast, in comparison to the mountains in the west.

It's amazing that there are so many state parks so close to the city of Denver. We just got chance to explore only two of them. This is a unique place in that you will be on flat land one minute and the next you are seeing these beautiful canyon made by cherry creek. We had a great time hiking some beautiful trails within the park and saw lots of birds, wild flowers and some nice people along the way.

Nice place to visit, walk and hike around. Saw several people with dogs, beautiful birds and completely brush and trees. I could see this as a great place for a wedding, with beautiful views all around. Misty people stop at the first two parking lots to see the gazebo you can see from the highway. But make sure you go ask the way back further to the west. Great place for picnics with places for covered gatherings

Beautiful place. Been here many times, but this was the first time when the trails were covered in snow. Walked to the old dam, excellent. Another great Colorado state park.

Big rock, shallow canyon, river walk, bird watching, cliff dwelling, 3 ish mile hike with moderate terrain. Ice lasts a bit into spring in some spots. A very pleasant way to spend a few hours outside, in nature, subsurface exploring with the family. Great place to bring a picnic. Leave no trace.

A hidden gem! From the road you catch yourself thinking “there’s no way there’s anything good out there. Its flat for miles!” WRONG. As soon as you enter the park, you drive into a lovely canyon! Wonderful trails and views! Don’t skip out on this State Park!

What a great place to go for easy hiking and viewing the wonders of Colorado scenery. On the East side entrance there is a nice visitors center, great parking with nice paved pathways winding though the rocky landscape. We saw a lot of beautiful wildflowers, magnificent rock formations, cactus, and interesting trees. One of my favorites was the large grasses lining the pathways. some of them were still green, but some of them were turning fall colors of purple, red, pink, orange, & yellow. Take the time to look closely at the natural little rock gardens.
Unique open space with distinctive color variations & rock formations plus 4 miles of trails.
I went early to avoid the crowds and glad I did. It’s a very interesting area with lots to explore. When coming from the parking lot, you don’t see the coloring on the rock/clay formations but keep walking! The pinks and yellows are gorgeous. There are other hikes around the area with a definite marked trail system. Given I was still adjusting to the elevation in Colorado, I didn’t make it the entire loop. It’s free exploring and definitely worth the visit.

I loved the Paint mines!!!! They are so pretty!!! The trails are easy to read and are an easy hike! I had such a good time walking around and experiencing the joy of nature! The colors were so unique which I thought was so cool! I can't say I'm mad about my experience at all! If you're ever in the area and want a really cool place to visit, I'd highly recommend this location.

What a strange and beautiful place. This is coming from someone who grew up in Florida and spent the last 10+ years of her life in Alaska, so, I have never seen landscape like this. Lots of wild flowers blooming everywhere and a very nice walk. We only did about half of it due to having a young child with us and rain coming in. I will definitely be back to explore the rest!

This place rocks! Went on the 3.8 mile loop. Trail conditions were great and there was a lot of interesting native plans and views. Something about looking at the painted rocks settled into this vast grass plain was relaxing.
The interpretive guide Chris was teaching us all kind of cool history about the area and gave us a bunch of information about local wildlife we had seen.
Was an awesome time.

A worthwhile point of interest. The rock formations are colorful and fascinating. I recommend going straight to the geological formations; the longer hiking trails are not very scenic. The interpreter on site was friendly and informative. No admission fee. Free parking.

Interesting place - nice easy hiking around a historical and geologically interesting location. Soft, multi-colored rock layers have been eroded into interesting shapes, and small canyons have been used by indigenous peoples as a source for coloring, used in pottery. Location is really off the beaten path (seems like it is in Kansas), but is right next to a huge wind turbine farm - strange juxtaposition of modern technology with the past. Well maintained, has (primitive) bathrooms. Looong drive on county roads from the North if you follow Google maps. Better to come across on Rt 86 before hitting the long dirt county roads.

Lovely geological formation tucked into the prairie! I didn’t have time to explore the entire park, but I definitely wanted to! It was a great place to stretch my legs a little while passing through eastern Colorado. Plenty of nicely kept trail. The north entrance is the best place to start. There is no visitors center, but there is a map at the north entrance and information placards along the trail. There was a staff person walking around answering questions and providing additional information about the geology and history of the formation. There were restrooms at the north entrance and a port-a-potty at the southwest entrance.

The landscape at this park is unlike anything I've seen before, with its vibrant and surreal rock formations. The vibrant colors and unique geology make it a photographer's dream come true📸🤳🏽
The trails are well-maintained and offer a variety of lengths and difficulties, making it accessible for hikers of all levels. The interpretive signs along the way provide fascinating insights into the geological history of the park, adding an educational aspect to the experience.
I was particularly impressed with the efforts to preserve and protect the fragile formations here. It's clear that the community values this natural treasure and is committed to its conservation.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast, hiker, or simply someone looking for a serene and picturesque escape, Paint Mines Interpretive Park is a must-visit. It's a place that will leave you in awe of the Earth's artistry.
I highly recommend a visit to this unique and beautiful park. It's a hidden gem that deserves to be explored and appreciated💖😍

Absolutely gorgeous free park. It features what can be miles of walking if you walk all the way around and back, rock formations, and the ability to take lovely photos. Pets are not allowed. Most people seemed to be following the admonition not to climb, but it was disappointing to see that people had painted smiley faces on some of the rocks & we found and picked up some trash someone had left on the rocks. The path has gotten wet and been stepped in and hardened so if you have mobility considerations it would be best to use an electric device. There are about three outdoor bathrooms, two at the lower lot and one at the overlook. A couple benches but they are spread out.

Beautiful landscape. Colorful formations that built up millions of years ago.
Named "Paint Mines" as native Americans were using the colors as paint by mixing them with oils.
Good for open walk but be prepared as it gets windy on the trails.

Beautiful, unique and very clean geological formation park, with strict rules. This shows at least that the park is really caring. The Paint Mines have a free car park, clean rest rooms and park rangers you can bombard with questions. The ways are very good for hiking. Would definitely recommend coming here. It’s just 30min from Colorado Springs by car.

This place is a nugget of Colorado. It's free to come here and walk the trail/see the formations, but no dogs, bikes, or horses are allowed on the trail. I'm pretty sure that's to protect the formations, because otherwise these trails are literally perfect for all three of those things 😆 Anyway, the formations are great - if you have kids or low mobility people with you, I'd suggest heading straight for the mines (make your first right from this parking lot). If you do so, the formations are maybe 1/2 mile away, if that. Take your time and enjoy it because there is really only one spot on this trail where all of these formations are. The rest of the trail is pretty much just a view of hills and wind turbines (which I enjoy, but not to say that's for everyone). There are "interpreters" that walk around, if you have any questions about the formations and they're really nice people. They will tell you to stop climbing or walking on the formations though -- don't be that person. Please be respectful and follow the rules.
There is a bathroom at the trailhead and there is also a way to donate listed on a sign, if you'd like to do so.

We stayed in Colorado Springs and drove about an hour to see the paint mines. It is totally worth the trip! It was beautiful and unlike anything we’ve ever seen. The kids loved having a cool place to run around and explore. Pictures don’t do it justice! We spent about an hour and a half here. It’s really cool and peaceful… and free!
Augusta Nguyen — Google review
From the lookout areas, it looks cool. But that's nothing compared to going down into the mines. You are walking through a maze of rock formations and colors. The shape of these formations seems to change as your viewing angle changes. I spent a whole morning in just a portion of the park. I liked starting early when it was cool, quite and fewer people. I'm planning to go back to explore the rest on future trips.

Short 30 min drive from Colorado Springs.
There is several trails to explore within this park. I can’t remember but I think there’s a set of washrooms at the beginning of the park. Plenty of parking.
No dogs, no bicycles, no motor bikes, just walking.
A ton of wildflowers in the summer time, it’s really windy in this area. Bring sunscreen and bug spray!
The mines are beautiful, you can get close up and personal. Not too many people but very quiet and relaxing park. There is benches along the way to sit and watch the view. No water fountains, bring water!
Normal walking shoes are okay, no need for hiking shoes
They offer guided walks, make sure you go online and research the times

I ended up visiting before a storm hit and to be honest the overcast weather was perfect. The pigments in the rock formations were even brighter because the sunlight couldn’t bleach out any of the colors. There wasn’t much of a crowd and as the rain started it was a humbling experience to be surrounded by the echoes of thunder rolling in. Of course my phone could do the experience no justice.
Audrey Klunenberg — Google review
Beautiful place! If you have more limited mobility, I recommend parking at the West Overlook parking lot. I was pleasantly surprised to find a newly added trail that connects the overlook to the badlands, making it much easier to access the hoodoos. (See edited map attached.) However, the only pit restroom is located at the main parking lot.
We enjoyed exploring the area all to ourselves around 230pm on a Friday in December at about 38°F. Come prepared with water and layers as the mines are in high prairie territory where there's not much around, and it can get pretty windy. We went on an overcast day, but I could see sunscreen being a necessity as well.
Great free place to see with great history, not far from the Colorado Springs area!! 👍

Beautiful hidden gem that I almost don't want to share because of the serene, peaceful atmosphere it embodies.
If you want a nice little walk viewing incredibly colorful and vibrant canyon-like rock formations, filled with wildlife, clean and easy walking trails and some of the most beautiful sunrises, this is the place to see at least once.

I read the other reviews before we joined to the Paint Mines. However, I did not realize the park is larger than expected. We spent a few house going through every section. I would recommend a visit to everyone. We didn’t park at the restroom parking lot. We drove a little farther South and parked at the Overlook.

Probably one of the coolest areas I’ve ever seen. It’s in the high desert plains just east of Colorado Springs. Very interesting rock formations and varieties of colors which you don’t see every day. This area is very exposed and has little shade or anything to protect you from the sun and various other elements, so I would advise wearing proper clothing depending on the season and bringing water no matter what time. Hikes/trails were easy and everyone can access this area. Last section of road to get here is gravel.
Nick Walters — Google review
I don't know that I would go more than an hour out of my way to visit again, but I'm glad we made the trek from Denver this once. It was not crowded on a pretty weekend day, but it was extremely muddy in the winter, to the degree that I almost lost a shoe once or twice. That said, it's very unique. No dogs are allowed and I think that is definitely acceptable because this is a clearly fragile environment that needs to be protected. If you want a place to take a gentle walk with out of town visitors, or need photos of you on Mars for a dystopian futuristic film--- this is it ;). And bring a separate pair of shoes for the car ride home.

Super pretty, 100% worth it and free. about 40 mins from Colorado springs, 15 min from food and gas. bring water and a hat, no shade, lots of walking. Porta potties, but only in the parking lots about 1 to 1.5 miles away from formations. Don't wear your best, you'll scuff whatever you're wearing, and if you don't, you didn't explore enough.

Beautiful and gem of a place tucked in Calhan, Colorado. Probably underrated. Should have been more famous. There are 3 parking points the main one at the Interpretive park, one in middle at the overlook point and one at the upper lot. We parked at the Overlook point. We parked here and it took about hour and half / 1.5 mile easily. Avoid on rainy days as it gets can slippery and muddy. Carry water, no water on site. No dogs allowed. Worth the drive. Close to Calhan town with gas stations and food options.
Fox Run Regional Park is a nature lovers paradise, with hiking trails and playgrounds perfect for families. The park also has a beautiful lake and views of Pikes Peak.
The most beautiful park around. Great for families, going solo and even fun to bring your pet. Absolutely love being surrounded by all those trees and trails

Great park, with a little something for everyone. There are two play structures, open fields for running and games, this neat little grove of trees for kids to wind in and out of, and much longer trails for the hikers as well. There is a great little mash of trails around the two little lakes; very woodsey but with lots of benches and a gazebo and water feature. Seems to be a favorite with dog owners. Kids will also enjoy the koi fish in the ponds as well as the turtles! Trails are dirt, but packed enough for a stroller as long as it hasn't rained recently.

First time at the park. It was beautiful. Perfect place for autumn pictures. Besides our group, I saw at least 3 other groups getting photos taken. Must be the place in C Springs for photos. It had the perfect atheistic for a Halloween witches shoot. Also had a creepy little wooden hut built to make it even better.

We absolutely love hiking in this park. There are many trails to choose from. My absolute favorite thing is smelling the bark of the Ponderosa pine trees. This park has posted reading material on all the trails we’ve been on, I always stop and read. 🤓Being outside in nature is my happy place! If you’re hiking during the winter consider the icy slush.. I saw a few folks with walking sticks, prbly is a good idea as there are some hilly areas. This park also caters to family picnics with nice grassy areas for playing games or just relaxing in the sun or the shade, we frequently see folks tie up hammocks.

A scenic park located in the secluded Black Forest north of Colorado Springs, Fox Run is home to many trails and woods, and is maintained by the county. There's a pond with a rest area, and a good amount of parking as well. I really enjoy the park, and it's never busy so if you're looking for a quieter spot to hike that's not too far out of town, Fox Run is a great option.

Best dog park around. Great area for letting the dogs out to exercise and socialize. Please make sure your dog obeys voice commands or keep your dog on a leash.

This is a great park for everyone.
I enjoy hiking here regularly. The trails dry very quickly after it rains. The trees block the sun and the wind, making it more enjoyable to hike here in the summer and winter. While the trails aren't necessarily flat or easy, there are few, if any, hazards like gravel to slip on or roots to trip on. The only downside to hiking here is that being in the woods, you get relatively few majestic views of the mountains.
My toddler enjoys the playground and swings. My dog (and I) like the huge, shaded dog park.
There are also picnic pavilions and grills. I've seen many large groups and birthday parties.

Great, big park with wide open spaces and clean places!
Beautifully maintained area with an updated playground that has fun colors and safe low-to-the-ground features, has gazebos, even a wedding gazebo, picnic pavilions with tables that are kept clean, dog park, horseback riding, volleyball, 4 miles of hiking trails, a horseshoe pit, water fountains and big, clean restrooms, But beware of the compostable toilets they have as anything that goes down, will not be easily retrieved!!
All facilities are able to be reserved. We enjoyed the park during a company picnic where a petting zoo was able to be brought in, a bounce house, food vendor, corn hole set up and made use of the volleyball set up.
Plenty of parking and good signage for figuring out which pavilion you need to go to or other attractions you may be trying to get to as you enter the park.
Lots of rolling hills and healthy trees that provide natural shade. Nice open fields for playing catch, football, or soccer. For dogs, the grass is well maintained and dog park is kept clean.
We look forward to going back and spending more time there and enjoying the pavilions with water features.

Great park, where you can find long hiking trails, and a very easy trail around two pounds, several parking lots and nice playgrounds, with a sandy volleyball field. And dog park has real trails too. With pine trees it's never too hot, even in summer. In one pond there are turtles, in the other, with a bridge and gazebo - huge coi fish, kids adore it. In fall, the place is perfect for photo sessions, so you can barely walk without avoiding them!

I love this park!!! As Colorado Springs continues to grow, every park with hiking trails feels overcrowded regardless of what time you go to the park. I typically go to Fox Run earlyish in the morning, before 9:00am. It never feels crowded, I can always find a parking spot, and when I do cross paths with other people, they are friendly and say good morning.
The US Air Force Academy is a prominent military training facility in Colorado Springs, which attracts millions of tourists each year. It offers visitors a glimpse into the history and training of pilots and other airmen.
Visited the United States Air Force Academy in early August and was simply awestruck by the history, mission, character and quality of people who first organized the institution, all the graduates over time, and the proud character of the individuals attending the academy. Beautiful campus nestled in the north part of Colorado Springs, with plenty of space and neat, air-themed buildings. The chapel was under renovation/construction when we visited so we could not view it, but there are plenty of images and models around to get an idea of how beautiful and majestic the building is. We don't have any family members in the military, but we greatly appreciated the valuable opportunity to learn about this wonderful institution and the amazing work of the people associated with it. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

We visited the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in hopes that our daughter will be attending next year. It is a highly respected institution that is known for producing some of the most dedicated and skilled military officers in the United States Air Force. With a focus on integrity, excellence, and service, the Academy prepares its students to meet the challenges of military service with honor and distinction.
Beyond its academic and ethical rigor, the Air Force Academy also offers a vibrant and diverse community for its students. Cadets come from all walks of life, and the Academy prides itself on fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging.
It would be a blessing to be a part of this prestigious academy.

What an impressive place! Not just the beauty and the organization of it, but the respect for the academy and the respect for the service is present. The size of the grounds is immense, and we only stayed on the roads, not having time to go on any of the walking paths. Even though the chapel is currently closed, we still learned a lot through the visitor's center, and the video they showed was informative as well. Would have loved to have had more time here.

My husband made a second trip to get my prescription which said on the recording that it would be ready on Friday after 2:00 pm. He tried calling but they would not answer the phone and of course it was not ready again. Have no idea what is happening at the USAF Academy but the prescriptions now are never ready when they say it is in their recording. From now on we are not going to pick it up until we get text from them saying it is ready. Of course I am going to run out of this important medication.

Amazing showcase! We loved every second of the place, and Danny - our tour guide - was knowledgeable and kind, even dealing with our random interjections and tangents hahaha.
There are so many large and beautiful specimens here, along with a cleaning lab with active cleanings in progress - My fiance and I spent a solid 3 hours enjoying the tour and museum. You can even touch real dinosaur bones here!

It's a fantastic visit. You can see the work being done to recover the actual fossils through a wall of windows. There are countless displays of dinosaur skeletons, both actual and reproduction s. It is self guided with attendants available to answer questions. They also offer guided tours. Many hands on displays and a small children's corner. The gift shop is huge and well stocked. There is a photo corner that offers the chance for you to be seen being menaced by a large dinosaur.

I was honestly so impressed with this museum given its in a smallish mountain town. They had way more actual fossils than I ever expected! The info around the exhibits is sometimes funny worded but good info. They had a ton of really cool fossil replica in there. Staff was friendly and helpful. The gift store is huge and has tons of options for kids and adults, including my fave thing ever frame butterflies and other critter. They have amazing stone chess sets available as well. The building appeared to be clean, well lit, and well maintained. They had their 3d printer crafting things but i would not be so trusting with the location of the printer with some of the people coming into the museum. They also have one of those room where you can see the guys working on new fossils. I really loved the frogs skeleton cause i have those frogs on Ark Survival Evolved. Overall i had a great time and this place is a really cool experience!

A unique experience. I think $14 per adult is a bit steep considering the smaller scale of the museum. Was happy to see my favorite dinosaur, the Quetzalcoatlus, even if it was only a 1/3 scale replica. Very cool but I probably wouldn't recommend a drive here if it's more than 30 minutes for you, I'd say it's roughly half and half replica skeletons vs real bones. Staff were very knowledgeable and great to speak with!

We walked the trails and took some amazing pictures. Nature is beautifully created. And it's free, you can't beat that.

Such an amazing experience! There are short walks and longer walks. A nice public restroom next to parking lot 2. The visitor center is awesome! They have a nice little gift shop and you can pick up a map there. It also has some amazing views too! It also has a little cafe if you want to grab coffee or snacks before going hiking.

Beautiful rock formations. You will be greeted with balanced rock with a narrow road to the visitor centre. The road is a loop with various scenic spots. I believe the place would be more beautiful during dawn or dusk. Great for hiking, walking or just being with nature !!

Our first stop was at the Visitor’s Center. The man at the information desk was helpful and courteous. Since we were pushing a baby stroller he pointed the paved route for us. The view from the Center is beautiful and a great place for pictures. It is a good idea to bring water. While the paved hiking is not strenuous the dry climate will leave you thirsty!

Such an amazing and majestic place. This was a great place for the whole family. The scenes are gorgeous and the kids loved climbing around on the rocks. It’s super clean and the paths are well taken care of. Add it to your “must-see” list. You won’t regret it.

This place is amazing. Such beautiful vistas, I could spend an entire day just taking it all in. You can drive your car up the road and there's a parking lot that meets a trailhead. The path is concrete and well maintained. In fact, the entire area is meticulous. We got a good way down the path and turned back because it started to rain. But this is a wondrous place that is good for the soul.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. No joke. There is something for everyone here! There are concrete sidewalks throughout the park, as well as more primitive trails with some elevation if that’s your thing. The visitor’s center is also very nice.

Fun experience walking around and seeing the formation of the rocks there and the surrounding areas. The park is kept very clean and tidy. You can see caution signs if you're not clear if you can go or do certain things. Maps are well placed around to make sure you know where you are at all times. People there are friendly and the views are even better. Everywhere you look is a sight to see. Traffic is not that bad, but I didn't go at their peak times. It was open till late, which was great as we got to see the sunset.

We visited on a Monday afternoon, not too crowded. The visitor center is really cool, all the touch screens actually work! The staff were very helpful and the gift shop has some cute stuff. Everything is very accessible on the paths, if you have a wheelchair or stroller you can navigate safely. It’s a great time and it’s free! The weather was great, just a little snow here and there.

Absolutely amazing place to venture. We spent hours enjoying the sights and could have easily spent longer. There are many trails. Animals to watch for. The restrooms are very well maintained, as is the whole park. Dog, kid friendly. There are areas that are not mobility friendly for wheelchair access and strollers, but there are plenty of other areas to explore that are.

It's absolutely beautiful. Did the Siamese Twins trail. It was a little tricky to stay on coarse. We started at the trading post, its probably better from the actual trailhead. the paths were clear but it just wasn't clear if you were on the correct path. The map was not too helpful. But we had GPS on so could always see where the trading post was and the other people on trail were helpful in letting us know if we were on the right track. But aside from that the scenery is absolutely amazing. We saw deer and a cute, way too accustomed to humans squirrel. And lots of cool birds. Could spend all day just staring at the beautiful views of valleys hills and rock formations. Super grateful there is no charge to enter, although we did our part by spending money in the gift shop and trading post!

It doesn't matter whether it's your first time or you've been a hundred times it will always be breathtaking and connect you with nature no matter what time of year it is! The drive is absolutely beautiful through the park. Trails are well maintained and many are handicap accessible. Access to Rampart Road will take you on a fun 4-wheeling drive.
Bucket list stop for visitors for sure. Beautiful trading post with lots of local gifts.

Unique, wonderful, picturesque place to go for a hike/walk.
Mountain Biking, there is a designated area for mountain biking.
Only downside, it is so popular that it can be a bit crowded and difficult to find parking at times.
Most enjoyable at off-peak times.

This was amazing. It was so cool to see and actually walk around and climb on these rocks. So many trails and spots to park. There are some trails that are shared with horses. So watch out for horse droppings. They even have picnic areas with tables so you can bring your own food and eat with your family and friends. Pretty cool to actually see and touch all that stuff. One of my favorite spots I found.

they have a cafe in the visitors center and a cute gift shop. there are plenty of paved paths to walk along around the park, along with dirt paths that are less busy. we saw many people climbing on the rocks and the weather was great so there were many animals wandering around. lots of birds too

My overall experience has been incredible here. Definitely not a place that you get to explore in a few hours or even a whole day. I'd say to plan the spots that you want to explore and revisit if you have time. If you are a hiker, on the map the Scotsman Picnic Ground has a great trail, just watch out for horse poop everywhere as this is a pretty popular riding for horse owners.

Such a beautiful place! I went hiking one day but didn’t get to see everything before the sun went down. I went back the next day to catch the sunrise and see what I missed the day before. There are so many cool things to see all over the place.
I went later in the day on the first day so it wasn’t too crowded. The same for the sunrise, there was hardly anyone there. So amazing that there’s no charge for this park!

It goes without saying that this place is beautiful. The visitors center was really nice all kinds of information about the area. It was a little bit crowded but it seemed to be pack with the kind of people who loved where they were so it was great vibes. My kids loved it and didn't want to stop hiking. There is a lot of area roped off I'm sure with good reason but i wish we could explore around off the path a little bit.

This was my first time in Colorado Springs and this is a must see. The park is easy to drive in and through. The actual area is at the foot of the mountains and not in the mountains. The terrain is easy to walk. I has areas for you to walk and many, many people do that. It has areas to bike ride and it also has places to horse ride. The are separated places so you can enjoy whatever you are choosing to do. You can drive through the area and it is a nine mile trip, I was told. You can take a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenery. The trails are wide and well worn so that anyone can walk them. There is a lot of traffic but it is worth the effort and be ready to take pictures. You could definitely spend a day just walking and riding. Loved it. There is a trading post there as well. and the nature center is kinda nice but average.

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Colorado Springs area. Best of all, this park is free to the public. Parking is free at the visitor center but it can fill up quickly during the day. There are plenty of parking spaces with free shuttle about 5 minutes from the visitor center. You can drive into the garden but there are limited parking spaces there.
There are lots of hiking trails but if you are looking for a short hike, the park rangers will recommend the 1 mile paved loop around the famous rock formations not far from the visitor center.
If you are interested, you can buy tickets for a 45-minute Jeep tour around the entire park for $20 per person. There are bikes for rent as well.
This park is open from 5 AM to 10 PM in the summer. We also visited the park the following day to take pictures and see the sun rise over the rock formations. It was beautiful and there were very few people in the park during sunrise.

Immaculate, breathtaking, mind boggling. These words don't even begin to describe the feelings you get when you try to think about how everything about these dwarfs your existence. When it comes to the time and resources at play to bring you these amazing views. Recommend watching the 15 minute video at the visitor center to get an idea of how these formations can't about.

Free to enter. I wished one of the main parking lots was bigger, it took awhile to find a parking space. You have to sit and wait for people to leave. Hiking is easy and you can go as leisurely as you want. It’s better to do this one in the morning to avoid the massive amounts of tourists coming. You can easily spend a few hours here.

No doubt this place is one of the best small hike locations to explore in the area. Lots of beautiful views and hiking paths. Bring water and make sure to stay hydrated. I would also advise proper shoes that cover your ankles and toes, the sand is red and will dust your shoes with a fine coating (easy to clean off, but be aware it's part of the experience) all in all, I highly suggest this park.

This place was absolutely beautiful. We made a trip out to pick up my daughter and she encouraged us to check it out before we left. They did have a picnic area, restrooms, and if you’re into rock climbing they had designated areas for that as well! I would love to fly back to Colorado and explore this place some more!

The beauty of the park is breathtaking, and the array of colors, especially at sunrise or sunset, is simply mesmerizing. The well-maintained trails offer easy access to explore the landscape and get up close with the unique rock formations. Each viewpoint and trail presents a new perspective of the park's grandeur, making it a photographer's paradise. Climbing is epic! As a new outdoor climber, the grades are sandbagged. There are few bolts, we used trad gear on most sport routes. The first bold is often 15ft+ from the ground, may not be able to get it even with a stick clip. Not a place I would recommend for beginners, but for those up for the challenge, it is a playground of old classic routes with incredible views.

Incredible experience. We chose to do the audio guided tour in our vehicle. There are many places to park along the way and explore on foot. The views of Pikes Peak were great once the clouds clear.

Love the formations, but not all the tourists... we go when it's not expected to be bust, much better people wise. Big park, drive around to the different spots and park, lots to see. Don't step in the red clay mud, it will ruin your shoes.
The National Museum of World War II Aviation is an aviation museum located in Colorado Springs, CO that features a large collection of restored aircraft and artifacts from World War II. The museum is also home to a gift shop which caters to aviation enthusiasts from all over the world.
We had such a great time on what is sure to be the first of many visits! It was an incredibly well put together museum, the displays were top-notch and filled with information and pieces of history!
The tour was worth the extra $5.00. It was a great way to get perspective and be able to ask questions. Not only did we learn about the aircraft, but about the painstaking details that go into restoring them.
Definitely worth the time and money!

This is a must-see stop if you are a museum or history lover… or, even if you are not! The collection of aircraft here is amazing. Equally amazing is that almost all of them are in flying condition and the few that are not are in restoration to be able to fly.
Make sure you allocate enough time to make your way through the exhibits. I highly recommend taking the guided tour. It takes about 2 hours and is well worth it. Our docent was very knowledgeable. He spoke to the group at a level that was understandable for the beginner aviation enthusiast and could quickly answer questions posed by the more experienced in our tour group.
The displays are nicely arranged. You can get up close and personal with the aircraft and learn details with the accompanying graphics and memorabilia on display.
WestPac Restorations is included in the tour so you have a chance to see all the work that goes into restoring these planes.

Awesome place to visit, loved the history and was accurate, which was very refreshing. Even had a witness of pearl harbor (As a child) that gave us a tour and rundown of the restorations. I highly recommend this as a place to visit if you are in the area and want to see real life, actual operable planes from that era.

We had a great time. Visiting the area where the plane restorations was amazing. These guys perform miracles putting these planes back into flying condition. The museum itself has several aircraft to view and a bi-plane simulator that was pretty darn cool. Definitely worth the visit!

This museum rivals the Smithsonian in terms of WWII history. Not the easiest to get to but well worth the visit. All the planes on displayed actually fly. Saw several planes Ive never scene in any other museum. The artifacts and attention to detail were incredible. They restore WWII era planes in a separate hangar. A guide shows you each of the projects and was quite knowledgeable. The restoration hangar is included in price of admission as well as two other hangars. Added bonus the day we were there - C130s from Peterson, adjacent to museum, were training. Well worth the admission fee.

This WWII museum is unique in that nearly all of the planes still fly. Great collection of planes, take the guided tour for an extra $5. On the 2 1/2 hrs tour, our guide provided great background on the history of each plane. We'll worth the visit.

This is a wonderful Museum. Very informative and well laid out. The docents are very knowledgeable and entertaining. My husband enjoyed the simulator ride in a biplane that they offered. If you were able to tour the World War two museum in New Orleans and enjoyed that then you will be equally as impressed touring this museum. So grateful to all the men and women who sacrificed to make our world a safer place.

Wow! I've never been a huge history buff, but I could have stayed here for days! There is so much to read, learn and look at in this museum, and the docents are top notch! Everyone was so friendly and informative! It was cool to know ALL of their planes are in flying condition, and I look forward to bringing my son to the air show and to visit the museum this August!

Great museum, well worth the time. If you have the time, take the guided tour. It takes about 2 hours but gets you access to Westpac where they rebuild the airplanes. You can reserve a time online. The tour itself is fairly fast paced and skims through a lot of the museum exhibits but focuses on the airplanes themselves. Very friendly and helpful staff, extremely clean, airplanes are beautiful. I will differently stop by again if I'm ever going through Colorado Springs. Thank you keeping them flying!
Zach Mayer — Google review
This place is very unique. It is the only museum of its type where everything isn't roped off. You can walk right up and touch the aircraft. You can stand under them. You can stand beside them. The staff are all very passionate, knowledgeable and experienced. Our tour guide had served in the military using some of the aircraft he was showing. This was awesome for me. It was a great glimpse at our country's history, and the history of our great military. We went on a couple of tours that day and didn't have enough time to spend at this one. I recommend 2 hours at very least. Three would be better. I will be back. I will spend much more time at this museum looking at the sites and listening to the stories of the soldiers turned tour guides.

If you are in Colorado Springs, this is one of the best private museums with World War Two aircrafts that are in flying condition! Museum is near Colorado Springs airport. There is an entrance fee which is very reasonable considering they have to maintain a private museum which is open to the public. There is also a tour hosted by a museum docent to visit the hangar where aircraft restoration is taking place. I learned it can cost between $3-5 million to restore a P-51 Mustang completely to flying condition. We spent about 2 hours here.
Peter Tan — Google review
Wow, what an amazing and well maintained collection of WWII aircraft. This museum will blow you away with what they have on display, their interactive simulators, and tours to the shop that does the restoration work. Seeing the internal workings of stripped down aircraft at each stage of the restoration process was something you don't get to see often! Dan, our docent, did a great job touring us through the museum and restoration shop. Everyone at the museum was eager to talk and share stories and info on the planes and the exhibits. One of the best museums I've ever been to.

A Wedding Amidst the Wings: An Unforgettable Experience at the National World War II Aviation Museum
As someone who has visited quite a few museums and attended more weddings than I can count, I was skeptical about how these two worlds could harmoniously merge. But, let me tell you—the National World War II Aviation Museum in Colorado Springs pulled it off spectacularly.
From the moment we drove up to the sprawling complex, the vintage planes parked as if ready for a history-rich flight caught our attention. The staff—courteous and attentive—had artfully arranged the aircraft to serve as an awe-inspiring backdrop for the wedding ceremony and photos. It was as if the past had come to celebrate with us, and it was mesmerizing.
The ceremony itself was nothing short of magical. Chairs were neatly set up, creating a sense of both intimacy and grandeur, a difficult balance to maintain. The acoustics were incredible; every heartfelt word from the unmic'd officiant and the delicate chords from the violinists resonated beautifully, easily reaching all of us among the nearly 100 guests.
After the "I dos," it was on to the reception, which was equally—if not more—memorable. Tables were elegantly prepared, and the venue's wide-open spaces allowed for an array of catering options, a DJ booth, and even a dance floor. The museum had transformed into a venue where history met modern celebration in a dance of epic proportions.
What set this venue apart was the museum experience embedded in the wedding festivities. Guests could wander off and explore the exhibits—touching artifacts, reading about incredible war stories, and relishing the unique, detailed models of planes and wartime machinery. This was not just a treat for history buffs but a delightful experience for all attendees.
The younger guests were enthralled by the simulators, and I heard more than one kid declare they were going to become a pilot when they grew up. It was heartwarming to see how the museum not only entertained but also inspired.
So, whether you're a first-time visitor, a history aficionado, or someone looking for an unforgettable event space, the National World War II Aviation Museum offers an experience unlike any other. As a wedding venue, it exceeded expectations, fusing history, education, and celebration into one unforgettable experience.
Would I recommend this venue for a wedding or any other significant event? Without a shadow of a doubt, yes! Come for the history; stay for the celebration. It's an event venue that truly soars.

I love World War II history and this is a great place to see and to learn.
I spent a little over two hours on the tour and I still had only seen about 50% of the museum. There is a lot to see!
If you have any interest in history, in World War II or even aviation, schedule a visit here. You will not be disappointed.

Blown away by this place. My Son and I went to check it out. If we had the time I'm sure we could have spent the whole day here. Only had 2 hours to spend but sheesh the exhibits and the knowledge of the staff and the attention to detail on all of the exhibits was top top notch. We can't wait to return my son's continuously asks to go back. Also afterwards there is a really neat place to grab some food right down the road called the airplane restaurant would recommend going there after.

This museum is AMAZING. We did a 2 hour guided tour with Eric as our guide and it was so interesting. I’m not a huge history buff, but everyone was so enthusiastic and the exhibits were so interesting, the time flew by. We ended up spending over 3 hours there. Almost all of the planes were in flying condition which is unbelievable. Getting to see the restoration process in the workshop was so unique. Verne and John in the simulation area were so wonderful. This place is absolutely worth the trip and you would get the most out of the trip with a guided tour with one of the docents. Everyone in our group said it was the best $5 they’ve spent.

We traveled about 150 mile round trip to visit this.... and it was so worth it! As noted by the oil catch pans under all the aircraft, just about every one of them is airworthy! Lots to see, and everything is laid out in chronicological order related to World War II events. Even if you choose to tour the museum on your own, you can join a guided tour of a separate hanger where all of the aircraft are worked on at no extra charge.
Pikes Peak is a well-known mountain peak in Colorado that stands at 14,110ft and is made of pink granite. While not the tallest of Colorado's 14ers, it's famous for its stunning views and attracts over half a million visitors every year. The Ute tribe originally named it the Mountain of the Sun, which accurately describes this majestic peak that rises straight up from the plains.
Hiked up through Barr trail and drove back from the top. Thanks to my friend who came up in his car to pick us up. Hard and enjoyable hike with beautiful views along the way. America's Mountain is an amazing place to visit. We took the Cog Railway to the top and we were left awe struck. It's no wonder America the Beautiful was inspired by Pike's Peak.

This is a unique high elevation summit experience. There are not a lot of mountains you can drive, hike, or take a railway to the top. The visitor center is nice. The views 360⁰ are spectacular. The summit is very busy.

One of the very nice outdoor spots to visit in the Denver area. We visited during Labor Day weekend. It was so crowded. It needs a pass to visit the top of the peak. We got lucky to visit the peak despite no planning from our side. The view from the top was absolutely gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised to see the train service to the top. Next time, I will plan for it. The 360 degree view from the top was spectacular. Sitting at an altitude of 14000+ feet, I could feel the altitude and reduce oxygen levels. The rangers also check for brake pads temperature on the way down and provide recommendations based on the result. In our case, we were asked to wait for 30-40 mins as the brake pads temperature reading was too high. The rangers recommend turning off AC on the way up and using lower gear on the way down.

I’m terrified of heights and I had to drive along those narrow roads with those steep drop offs but I’d do it again to see that view. It really makes you appreciate nature and just how vast the Rocky Mountains are. My photos couldn’t do it justice but just go and see it. If you’re considering it just go do it. Ridiculous that they charge $50+ to drive up a mountain... But it's definitely something to check off your list if you're in the area. The $15 admission is if you're not going to the top.
We did not make reservations and were allowed entry with no problem.
Make sure your brakes are in good condition and that you know how to drive downhill without using them (using low gears instead).
Set aside around 3+ hrs for the trip depending on how long your stop offs are. Bring snacks and water.
Beautiful scenery. Be sure to go when the weather is clear and have some high altitude donuts at the top... They really are amazing. The gift shop sells some cool stuff that you can only get there.
If you have kids, be sure to check out the North Pole amusement park.

Wow!! Is the best way to describe this experience. The drive up takes about an hour and it is best to go slow and steady especially around the turns. Just amazingly worth it. We tried to get a reservation to drive to the top, but couldn’t. But we were able to drive to mile 16 and park and then ride the free shuttle the next 4 miles to the top. It was a pretty cold day, but we did it in shorts and it really wasn’t all that bad. The views were amazing.

A definite MUST see if you are in the Colorado Springs area! The pics do not do this ride justice by far. A few things to note.
Train is about 1 hour up and a little less back down with about 30 minutes at the peak, so plan for about 3 hours.
It will be cold at the top, so plan accordingly! We went up in July and there was still snow.
Also, check the weather and buy tickets in advance. I would recommend sitting on the 3 seat side. We were lucky to have a break in the clouds on the way up, but at the top and the way down, we were in the clouds and had little visibility.
Still an awesome experience that we will do again!

This place is so beautiful! The views are incredible.
I did not trust myself to drive up or down the mountain so we used Buggy Tours. I highly recommend checking them out. Joe was very knowledgeable and explained all the cool things along the way. Stopped at the best spots for a picture. The summit was cloudy the time we went but the views up and down were perfect.
I highly recommend going to the summit (I’ve been there in the past when not cloudy) you will not regret it, I also recommend checking out Buggy Tours for a ride up and back.

Wow!! What an incredible time! Make sure to make reservations for your drive up. There is a great map they give you with points of interest on the way. Plenty of places to stop and get some really amazing pictures. Make sure if you are going slow to pull over to let the faster traffic around you. They provide a lot of areas to pull over so you can take your time and enjoy your drive while not holding up people that want to go faster. At the top there is a visitor center with a little museum, gift shop and cafe. Make sure to get your donuts in the cafe! There is a great amount of parking and you can walk around the whole area and get some amazing views. Don’t miss out on this adventure!!

Breath taking views that we will remember for ever. Must do adventure but please bring jackets on any date if the year. Loved the cog train.

I highly recommend this if you’re visiting Colorado . I also recommend this opposed to taking the train ride up to the mountain . The ride up and down is an hour… it’s about 15$ a person… and obviously gas to go up and down the mountain. But beautiful views.. and get a donut they’re good!

Beautiful and tiring. Went to the trailhead straight from the airport and started the hike at 2am on last Saturday 8/26. Paid $30 at the parking lot so don’t forget otherwise you’ll get a $50 ticket. Didn’t see a single soul for first 4 hours and it was pretty dark, reminded me of Blair Witch movie. Last 2-3 miles are tough but worth the payoff. Also, definitely chilly as you get higher so have layers. There is a cafe at the top so enjoyed the cheeseburger and drinks. Water is available to refill along the way so have a filter bottle. I went through 4Liters; Barr camp opens around 7.30am so I was too early but that’s a good stop to rest on the way around 6 miles in or camp at if you want to do this hike over two days. Beautiful views once you get out of the Forrest. There is a train that takes you all the way up and back so do that if you don’t want the workout or you can drive up the paved road. Took me 11hrs total to get to the top and back, around 23.88miles. Hike isn’t technical so anyone can do it as long as you’ve endurance. Highly recommended!!!!

Breathtaking views! We were only able to go up to mile 13 due to the weather, but it was some of the most beautiful views! Highly recommend taking this journey. We were able to see a couple of moose as well! And we found Big Foot!

Pikes Peak is definitely a must see tourist destination for anyone to visit because of the unbelievable views you get from a top the mountain. The drive up to the top of the mountain is beautiful in itself and is quite invigorating. The amount of switch backs and curves while traveling up makes for an exciting experience. Once you make it to the top, you get a view that is quite unique and truly unbelievable. They have a restaurant at the top where you can grab lunch at. There are multiple spots where you can pull off the road and get some great photo opportunities.

Probably one of the best things I've ever experienced. I would recommend spending some time in Colorado Springs for a day or two prior to driving up. Get used to the altitude and drink LOTS of water because the lack of oxygen up here WILL make it difficult to walk. Seriously, don't drive up and get dizzy and then not be able to drive back down. There are no guard rails.
Mozz Bagels — Google review
This trendy place is still worth seeing. Yes, the road is steep, and some may be frightened by the sheer drops, but don't let that stop you. The views are spectacular, and it's most likely you won't ever be at that elevation again, especially after being able to drive there! Next time I come here, I want to hike it or take the train. We also saw a Bear near the cliffs below us. Not too often you see them in the wild.

Views for miles and miles. Constantly changing panorama. There's a reason America the Beautiful lyrics were inspired by a visit to Pikes Peak and not New Jersey. Take it slow on the winding road, make sure you have plenty of gas and pack warmer clothes than you think you need.

Drive your own vehicle, ride the train, bike, or hike up to the top of this 14,000+ foot summit in Colorado Springs and experience one of the most beautiful views you'll ever see in your life. Photos aren't enough. You have to see Pikes Peak with your own eyes!

Broadmoor Seven Falls is a magnificent waterfall series located in a 1,400-foot-wall box canyon. There are walking and hiking trails, as well as an optional Broadmoor Soaring Adventure that culminates in a rappeland.
This was a cool experience m. I booked a ticket with my mom and her fiancé! We took a trolley to the actual site and it was a beautiful experience! There is a trolley once you get there to take you up to the views or you can walk (we chose to walk). Then there are elevators to get up. It’s definitely more of a sight seeing thing than it is a hike! Well worth the time and money spent!

You cannot drive directly to the falls. There are couple of parking lots closer to this location where you can park and walk. But, there are shuttles from this location which will take you the park area (free of cost), where you can purchase the entry tickets. It’s $17 for the adult and $11 for the kids. The falls are around a mile away from the ticket counter. You can purchase a shuttle ride as well for an additional $2 dollars but we liked to walk and enjoy the views. Once you get to the falls, take the elevator to the seven falls sign to enjoy the beautiful view of the seven falls. You could take the stairs too if you’d like. Afterwards, you could visit the actual falls and if interested take the stairs to the top of the falls.

We got an opportunity to visit this amazing place. We visited without any prior planning, so we wasted lot of time because of this reason.
We reached the right place but we could not get the opportunity to park our car because there was a shuttle bus service for this park. We spend like an hour to wait for our turn in the specified parking lot to get our turn.
When we entered the park, there was lot of walk to reach to the right attraction place but there was still a shuttle inside the park to take to the right place and also the lift to go to the high mountain spot from where we could see the broad view for this park.
one visit was enough to see this park or the surrounding attractions for this park, we may visit sometimes again.

Great place to get back to nature! Beautiful waterfall! Ticket is $17. Drove up to the main parking lot then took a shuttle to the 7 fall location, they have a ticket booth onsite. 15 mins walk up to main water falls and 224 stairs up to the major hike trail! Great sightseeing spot.

Went to Seven Falls to visit the water falls and hiking routes. First, you must park near the equestrian/event center and take a shuttle to the park entrance. Free Shuttle service runs from 10:00 am to 5:45 pm. There are guides to help you through the gate to the ticket booth. General admission is $17.00. Extra $ for a park Shuttle service to the Seven Falls cliffs. It's about a mile walk to the actual water fall. It's a beautiful walk if your willing to walk up hill all the way.
There are restrooms along the way and a gift shop near the Falls. There is a self guided tour through a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel their is an elevator that takes you to the Eagles Nest. The restaurant was closed. They claimed it was due to COVID-19 , but rather I believe it is hiring issues. It's hard to find employees right now.
The Seven Falls were incredible but climbing the ladders were steep. But once you get on top their are a couple of trails. You can get a great view of Colorado Springs at Inspiration Point from the top of the mountain. It's a great way to spend hiking at Colorado Springs.

I absolutely loved this gorgeous place. I know there are many great locations with free entry in Colorado, but this place is definitely worth the entry fee. Strategically located photo spots provide excellent spots for those who need to expand their photo libraries. The Bubble Waffle Sundaes Food Truck with their delicious Ice-cream adds a little extra to your wonderful experience.

All employees that I encountered were very pleasant. It was quite the walk from where you were dropped off by the shuttle to the base of the falls, but it was so beautiful. The stairs mixed with the altitude made for quite the challenge but we made it. It would be nice if the stairs had been a bit wider to accommodate people going up and down at the same time. But otherwise the views were amazing and we truly enjoyed visiting. Will be back the next time we visit Colorado!
Ashley Cook — Google review
There's a scenic and gentle 1-mile hike to the falls from the gate. Then two sets of steep and challenging stairs go straight up the falls or from the Eagles Nest top there is a separate high-up view of the falls, which is also elevator accessible. The waterfalls and views are spectacular and the trails at the top are worth the extra effort to explore a little more of the area. Sep 2023

Had a wonderful time. The parking is about 9 minutes away if you want to park and take a free shuttle. There are other places you might be able to get a spot close by and walk to the entrance.
You can buy your tickets online or at the site but it's best to do online. The "tram" that takes you up the walk to top is good if the 3/4 mi hike is too much. But it's a decent incline hike to the top. Where the restaurant is and where the falls are.
The stairs are steep and straight up with a small rest at the middle. It's a good climb but the altitude is probably more of an issue for people than the stairs. Take your time. All the staff we met along the way were great. Cute little souvenir shop. Lots of picture opportunities.

Just beautiful and breath taking… Awe inspiring… I could just saying poetic things about this experience! If you are in the area it’s a must see. It wasn’t high on my bucket list the day I visited because I didn’t understand what I was going to see. I wholesomely can say I wish it was the place I spent the most time that day at. The views are breath taking. The park is clean and orderly and the staff attending the park were incredibly nice and you could tell they really cared about the park. The water falls were fun to see. The stairs I’d you climb up can be scary to take caution before attempting it! Other than that! Just enjoy cause if you’re anything of a nature lover this place will fill you up with Joy. They also have shuttles for those who may need those services to enjoy the park as well! The park fee I believe is $16.50 plus any additional options. Check their website for more details as weather changes etc.
Have fun!

Despite the rain, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience! My wife and I walked to the falls instead of taking the shuttle. Plus due to the rain, we were handed umbrellas for the time we were there. Although it was little under a mile, the scenic views made it totally worth it. Plus viewing the falls from the elevator was incredible. The walk up the stairs to the top was nerve racking (rightfully so especially in the rain) but totally worth it.

Cool place to see. Once we parked, they bused us to the falls area. There is a tram you can take up to the falls if you prefer not to walk up there. There is also an elevator you can use to view the falls (or stairs if you want a challenge, I did). Also, there are stairs up by the falls that you can take and view the falls from the top (I did not). Around 7-7:30, they light up the falls. It wasn't dark enough at that time when we went and the lights were hard to see. We did have to wait in line to be bused back to the parking area since it was closing time.

This is such a beautiful place to visit! You walk quite a bit and there are a lot of stairs, but the views are so beautiful and breathtaking. The hikes above the falls are so serene and worth the visit. Well worth the $18 entrance fee. Bring your own water and snacks. Drinks are $5 (water bottle or soda)

Park across the Walmart (you will see signs everywhere) and a trolley takes you to the entrance. Beautiful weather, gorgeous scenery, stroller friendly, couldn’t go up the stairs because of the snow but luckily there is an elevator that can take you to the top. We enjoyed our time here and highly recommend having lunch at the restaurant called 1858 within the park, it’s a must!

Love this place! Professional and clean. The falls are beautiful and there are options for all ability levels. The walk to the base is lovely. The stairs are steep but doable. This is a unique experience you should definitely take part in. Senior tickets (60+) are $15 and adults $18. But well worth the price. Spent about 2 hrs there and loved every minute of it. You can purchase tickets in advance, but I did not and was able to buy them at the park. But if you are going in the summer (which is peak season) I would recommend maybe getting tickets ahead of time so you can be sure you have a spot to get in

Very professional operation to help the flow of visitors transport. Free shuttle to the Seven Falls location from a designated parking area was very efficient. The short hike from the park entrance gave time to take in the surroundings. So glad to see this canyon up close. Very spectacular. The restaurant was perfect for our birthday lunch.

This place was amazing to visit, definitely a must if you're visiting anywhere within an hour of it. The trails are all kept neat and picked up along with having clear paths to ensure you don't lose track of where you're heading. The trams are very timely and worth the $4 a ticket. The restrooms are very clean but there's no handicap access.

This is a beautiful place to visit and get your exercise. The steps up to the eagles nest was somewhere around 175-185 steps. There was an elevator that you could use. Then for the waterfall, there was about 285 steps. If the gift shop would have had a t-shirt that said "I made it to the top and survived", I probably would have purchased it.

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is an award-winning zoo with more than 750 animals across varied terrain. It is only ten minutes from the resort and guarantee genuine animal interactions.
This zoo is so good! If you're local I would definitely recommend a membership as it's a much better deal. We come every couple weeks and the kids are never bored. It's a bit of a hike in places so wear comfy shoes and I always bring my stroller for the younger kids and to pile our stuff on. Feeding the giraffes is always a highlight. Parking is free and they have a few options for eating but we always pack a lunch. Will definitely be returning often!

Best zoo I've ever been to! The animal enclosures are large with shade and running water. You get to interact with the animals not just stare at them from a distance. Feeding the giraffes was amazing! My kids were excited to stand right next to penguins, wallaby and feed tropical birds. The best part is that the zoo has a timed entry which really helps control the crowd size, we went on Memorial weekend and had zero lines.

I've been to the zoo 3 times in the past year. It's hands down the best zoo I've ever visited. The giraffe feeding experience is so exciting for all ages. But they have several other animal feeding experiences as well. They teach you a lot about conservation with their amazing staff and daily demonstrations. Time entry also keeps the crowds to a minimum so you can get up close with the animals. The Wallabies hopping around at your feet is one of my favorite attractions. And their Primate area is top notch. With informative employees all around to answer questions and teach you more about conservation. The views are breathtaking, and the food is great as well. I recommend the BBQ place first, but the others are also good 👍 and don't forget to visit the Shrine of the sun after the zoo, it's worth the drive up and included in your entry to the zoo.

Fantastic zoo! The giraffe exhibit is my favorite part! Getting to feed the giraffes is such a cool experience! But be sure to walk around the exhibit to feed the giraffes away from the entrance! They want lettuce too! Lots of walking at this zoo, and a decent amount walking up hill. Brings lots of water!! And sun hat and sunscreen highly recommended!

Incredible zoo experience! The exhibits present in a more natural environment being on the side of the mountain. All the zoo staff we have encountered have been very friendly and knowledgeable. The food court is awesome! Very easy to navigate and great prices for what is offered. The sky ride is a must as long as you're not afraid of heights. The view at the top is absolutely beautiful. The HUGE win associated with this zoo is the ability to feed the giraffes and have that interactive experience. The kiddos absolutely love it and adults do too!

COZY AND UNIQUE LITTLE ZOO! LOVE GIRAFFES? MUST SEE!
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a little out of the way but well worth it. I've been to tons of zoos but this one was unique in its location and a far more relaxing experience than some of the larger zoos in the states.
If you love Giraffes, this is a must stop. There are eateries on site with amazing views from decks and a one-of-a-kind view from the gandola lift up and down the mountain.

Amazing zoo experience. Just WOW to the people that trained the Grizzly bears. They are so trained and is so fun to watch. I felt like a kid watching that. Besides that organization in the zoo is perfect. The water fans are amazing for this summer season. The feeding experiences are with it. Highly recommend

I loved this zoo! What a beautiful day it was. I enjoyed feeding the giraffes ($3 or $5 bundles). They've got other animals you can feed as well. It was a little crowded today. Definitely recommend it to others. Parking is free. Remember to purchase your tickets in advance too.

I am only giving 3 out of 5 because they have the sky ride. That’s a major bonus. If it didn’t, I would give 2/5 based on animals and presentation. Staff was nice and helpful. Also, you can feed the giraffes, hippos, and elephants during certain times of the day which was pretty cool. You can pet the goats and giraffes fairly easily. It is high elevation so required comfortable shoes. You can pay $3 for all shuttle.
Shaneequa Henderson — Google review
It was one of the best zoos I have ever visited. I like that they have a set number of allowed visitors per day, which helps to keep the zoo less crowded and allows for a better quality exploration process. You definitely want to buy tickets in advance because there is no chance you get them at the gate. I have to say, tickets are very reasonably priced for a large zoo like that. Plus, they have military and senior discount.
We ended up walking around the zoo for hours. There is so much to see and do! Excellent location for the whole family. You can feed giraffes and budgies, admire elephants, and rhinos, enjoy the picturesque views of Colorado Springs and Cheyenne Mountain during the Sky Ride, and much more.

This is one of the best zoos we have visited. The fact that is is built on a mountain was amazing. We went on 10/8/2023, the weather was great and the animals were active. Their enclosures seemed like their natural habitats. But even if the animals were not as active, the scenic views are breath taking. Love how they made look out spots to take the sites in. I have already recommended this place to other friends and family making a trip to Colorado Springs. We are from Bryan, Texas and would definitely go again when we make a trip back that way.

This zoo is one of the best I have been to. It’s built on the side of a mountain and it is so beautiful. The highlight is the 16 member giraffe tower which you can purchase lettuce to feed them anytime from opening to closing. Plus check out the animal encounters, they are fantastic! Some of the animals will even paint you a picture during the encounter. I highly recommend them. Check their website for details. You can easily spend the day.

Was great to be able to finally visit after hearing wonderful reports of the experience.
Visited with a toddler and a 7 year old who loved the experience especially feeding the giraffes (take cash for the lettuce) and the budgies!
If you have a toddler bring a STROLLER or something they can be carried with or your biceps are going to get a workout at altitude!
For any South Africans feeling homesick you can see the penguins from Boulder Beach!

It is very windy near the entrance but gets better as you go. The zoo is 6,000 feet above sea level, so dress warm 😀 gloves are a must, especially for the little ones. Overall, the zoo is very nice and well built they also have a nice selection of places to eat and shop. We will be back on a warmer day 😀.
Brandon Tindle — Google review
The thing that sets the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo apart from other zoos is the number of ways you can get up close and interact with the animals. Most animals have feeding experiences (giraffes, tigers, elephants, goats, chickens, birds) that are reasonably priced compared to similar experiences at other zoos. There are also multiple ways to interact with the environment as you make your way around (two interactive plays areas, beavers dens, caves, large sculptures to climb). It felt like equal parts modern art gallery and zoo in places and made for a great immersive experience. Many of the animals were active while we were there and staff went out of their way to interact with guests and answer questions about the animals.
The only underwhelming exhibit, IMO, was the reptile and bird house. It had more of a pet store vibe looking at the snakes. For how well designed the rest of the exhibits are, I felt like they could do more in there.
If you want to buy food they offer a decent selection of standard zoo food (burgers, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream), although prepare to pay zoo prices. I appreciated that they sold specialty coffee drinks at the Cozy Goat that were decent. We went at lunch time, and while it was hectic and busy, the line moved quickly.
Be prepared to walk! Lots of incline walking because the zoo is in the side of the mountain. I loved the unique views this provided and the extra exercise, but for those not able to walk far, they offer a shuttle around for $3/day.
The ski lift wasn't operating when we went, but looks fun! There's also a carousel to ride for a fee.

Seriously the best Zoo we have been too. You get up close and personal with a lot of the animals. They take great care of all their animals and it's a very clean zoo. My favorite is feeding the giraffes and seeing the penguins up close! We are locals and bought a yearly family pass because the savings are amazing and we get to visit often! Well worth the trip, even in the winter!

This zoo is definitely one of a kind! We got to feed the giraffe and walk up the mountain for amazing views. You could also feed elephants during specific times, but we missed that. There are also restaurants here to grab a quick bite or something to drink. Word of advice is to dress comfortably and bring your own water! Sunscreen is a must and definitely bring sunglasses and / or a hat!
Mae Bangtan — Google review
This was the best zoo I have ever visited. Of course the giraffes were amazing. (There are so many and many people fees them right by where by food but walk down and around the circle and they are on both sides hungry). There fans and water stations everywhere. Kids 4-16 loved it. Each animal area has a "play area" like a hippo that sprays water, jungle gym by monkeys, alligator play. The interactive place has a 🦥 sloth just hanging above your head!
VERY IMPORTANT- it is a timed ticket entry. We arrived at 10 and were not able to get ticketed entry until 1. We went to old Town Colorado Springs and walked around and got ice-cream. (Recommend getting tickets ahead of time). We brought our wagon full of drinks and snacks in a bag and no one said anything. Highly recommend.

The variety of species on display was truly impressive. It was a joy to observe these incredible creatures up close and learn about their behaviors and unique characteristics.
The staff at the zoo were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate.
To top it all off, the zoo provided a clean and well-maintained environment for everyone to enjoy. The pathways were well-marked, making it easy to navigate, and there were plenty of rest areas and refreshment options available.

Fantastic zoo. I've been to both the Omaha and San Diego zoos and while those are also great, there was something special about this one. It felt much more intimate than those. The layout of the zoo is great and you really felt like it was an experience. It being on the side of a beautiful mountain certainly helped the ambiance. It felt more natural than most zoos. Highly recommend.

What a great experience! We came late Sunday afternoon to fill our day in CO Springs and this place did not disappoint. The cold kept most of the crowds away so it felt like we had the place to ourselves and it seemed like the animals loved the lower temps too because every enclosure had active and moving animals. The indoor buildings were spaced perfectly that when we felt chilled we could duck right in and warm up. The staff was also very friendly and helped me get some great selfies with the penguins while they were out too!

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is such a unique and beautiful zoo to visit. It is the only zoo that is built upon a mountain side. This makes this particular zoo very unique because of the elevation change that you get when visiting the zoo. You can be higher on the mountain side and look over the rest of the zoo sitting below you. They have a lot of very spacious and well put together enclosures with many different and unique species of animals. I would highly recommend visiting the giraffe feeding area, where they is a tall boardwalk setup that you can walk around and be at the giraffes height and feed them by hand. I've visited many zoos and this one is probably the most unique and cool zoo to check out.

I've been to several zoos but never expected one so nice at this high elevation! It's very well maintained and has more giraffes than any zoo in the country! My granddaughter loved feeding them! So did my wife! You can easily spend several hours there, and there are several places to hide in the shade on a hot summer day. This place is really worth seeing!

This zoo is AMAZING! 5 star experience. Beautiful, clean, lots of interactive areas, clean bathrooms at every turn. Reasonable food prices. Very active animals and friendly staff. Feeding the giraffes was so fun and the first thing you walk in to upon entry. We’ve been to several larger zoos but this one takes the cake. Winding paths up and down the mountain made it unique to other zoos.

I've been to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo a total of four times while I was stationed at Fort Carson, CO. I got the privilege of visiting the wonderfully cared for animals on Christmas day 2023 during the beautifully orchestrated Electric Safari event; I've been to two Electric Moonlight events; and one "regular" visit with my mother. Nothing is "regular" about this zoo!! Every time I got to visit, it was a new experience! I highly recommend a membership, and the advance ticket system works splendidly! All the staff is warm, kind, knowledgeable, and professional - you can tell they love the animals! The interactive experiences are fun for all ages!

This is an AWESOME zoo! There's a big variety of animals and several opportunities for animal interaction. You can feed some of the animals and many of them you get to see up close. The tiger walked right up to the viewing window it was great. Big animals like elephants hippos and rhinos, small animals and reptiles like snakes, lizards, penguins, birds and many in between. It is up and downhill but it's so worth the walk.

This is a must do when in the area. Feeding the giraffes was definitely a highlight, but having the pleasure of almost being nose to nose with mating penguins...AMAZING!!! I absolutely recommend driving up to the shrine (this is included with your zoo pass admission) as a delightful addition to the zoo. They are a non-profit that does not rely on tax income. So feel free to spend 💰 for a good and fun cause.

Sure we have great history. Rustic and rusty with what used to be a mountain reduced to rubble. If anything this place serves as a reminder of all that is flawed with the world. Come see how humans will RIP nature into pieces for their "precious" metals. FYI The Mayans believed gold was the excrement of the Sun. Google it! :-P Happy Trails!

I don't work there; nor do I go there often... As far as I can tell; they're in the business of recycling mountains!
^^^ - Oh, come on; that was pretty creative... I make the administration building sound fun! BTW: I still can't seem to get past the job-application "criteria-screening" rejection emails! I've been applying to a lot of positions, some were even "entry-level" and I got an almost immediate rejection for all but one; it took two-weeks for that one!

Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum houses more than 24 old planes and other exhibits, along with a souvenir shop. Despite being located in a small town, the museum boasts excellent displays featuring historical artifacts like donated uniforms and valuable, large aircraft. The staff members are knowledgeable and have interesting personal stories to share about the exhibits. Visitors can ask for details on anything they see at the museum. It is worth visiting on Saturdays when it offers a great experience for people of all ages.
Especially for such a small town, this museum is absolutely excellent. Tiny price of entry and extremely rich history on display.
They have all kinds of incredible displays, from uniforms donated by remarkable individuals themselves to massive aircraft with great historical and technical value.
The staff themselves are excellent people as well, all with their own great personal stories too. Ask for details about anything and you will not be disappointed!

Fantastic spot to not only view some aircraft, but also explore inside of a few, more then just aircraft though! They have half-tracks, artillery, large munitions and a pretty large space museum. 10/10 I'd definitely recommend.

Great and knowledgeable staff! Very friendly! My kids loved how they could get inside some of the planes and helicopters. Lots of NASA stuff and two hangers to go into full of things and air crafts to explore and look at plus a bunch of airplanes outside to see and you can get on the tank and take pictures. Highly recommend

You will be taken on a tour by extremely knowledgeable volunteers that makes the experience like no other.
You will have the rare opportunity to see(sometimes touch) a variety of retired military aircraft, gear, memorabilia, etc. that will capture everlasting memories.

Great hidden gem! Lots of excellent options with several you can board!...no slouch of a museum (even though you wouldn't expect much from the outside). Look for a BOGO coupon! The docents are wonderful, passionate about the museum offerings, and have been there for years!

Such a cool museum! Everyone we spoke with, from the guides to the office staff, were incredibly well informed about every subject my very inquisitive child could ask them about. We even got to meet a WWII veteran while we were there. So glad we stopped in!

Very cool- Lots of planes and vehicles, as well as a well put together layout. They have active relations with many companies so seem to get new items/displays dropped off periodically (NASA included)! A bit of walking if you want to see everything, but we'll worth it. Interactive displays and allow you up close and even in multiple planes/aircraft! Well thought out, large selection, and great staff (some of which were lived the history on display).

This a pretty good Air Museum. Plenty of warbirds, a few vehicles and a nice assortment of Space items. You are able to enter multiple aircraft both airplane and helicopter. Bathrooms in both hangars. 5-8 aircraft located outside. Staff was friendly. Nice little gift shop. For a small community this is a pretty good display. It was not crowded, kids welcomed.

This place is awesome!! Only ten bucks a person to get in and worth every penny. There are veterans there that are more than happy to give you a tour and explain the history of some of the items there. Thank you to the staff for being friendly and knowledgeable.🫡

Fantastic first trip to the Pueblo air and space museum! Two full hangers of vintage war birds and NASA equipment. Lots of signage and descriptions of various artifacts. The cost is ridiculous low for the level of museum it is. The best part is the friendly and informed staff. Well versed in each item on display and many are veterans with experience in some displays.
The pair of WW2 vets were a bonus and had amazing memories to share.
Highly recommend!

Rosemount Museum is a Victorian mansion that was constructed in 1893 and boasts 37 rooms furnished in period style. The museum offers guided tours led by knowledgeable docents, volunteers, and staff who provide insightful information about the lifestyle of its former owners. It's an impressive testament to the love and charm of Pueblo, with a 2000-gallon water tank installed in the attic and an Otis elevator - perfect for home builders looking for inspiration.
If possible, I would give this place 6 or more stars. Super friendly staff did a great job giving us a perfect tour of this incredibly beautiful building. The overall experience was much more than we expected, and we are thrilled we decided to go. Not only is the home incredible, but seeing an Egyptian mummy on the 3rd floor was quite an unexpected bonus at end of the tour.

I just finished my private tour with tourguide Shirley who was an absolute treat and full of so much knowledge of the home. I was absolutely taken aback by the beauty of this place. Ive toured several other victorian mansions but this one takes the cake. Every room is in pristine condition and the beauty of each room is breathtaking. I wont give details because every person deserves to visit and see it for themselves. I will say the dining room was the glimmering diamond of the house and my personal favorite. I will be returning very soon with others!

I haven't been here since I did field trip in middle school in the '80s lol. I forgot how amazing this little museum is in the amount of history it has for our cool little town of Pueblo. Really enjoyed my tour. Highly recommend doing this, especially if you've never done it or it's been a while.

Absolutely fabulous museum in quiet park of the city. Our docent was exceptionally thorough and explained things in detail to paint a picture of life for the Thatcher family. The artwork and surprises throughout the house were amazing and the full tour of the home is impressive. One of the best museums like it in Colorado, well maintained and kept to honor the home and the details the family housed in it.

The Docents, volunteers, tour hosts and staff were beyond incredible. They enjoy being in that home and sharing the life style of the owners that cherished it for over a century. This is truly a statement to the love and charm of Pueblo. I can't help to think that the last living heir left this home to the people he loved dearly. As a real estate broker I still can't get over the 2000 gallon water tank installed in the Attic! No apparently as far as I could see... And ask them about the Otis elevator -this is the home builder of your dreams.

This is an absolutely beautiful mansion and very unique. Originally built as a home in 1893 by the John A. and Margaret Thatcher family, this house has 37 bedrooms, and the estate covers an entire block. The Thatcher family resided in the mansion for 75 years. Almost all the original custom woodwork, paintings, and furnishings are original to the way the Thatcher family enjoyed it. I will post photos of the interior when they become available. ☀️🥀

Two lakes for fishing & boating, plus camping, hiking & views on the site of a historic coal camp.

We have stayed at Lake Alice campground 3 times in the past 4 years and have enjoyed each stay!
Pros:
-Beautiful area with trails and lake nearby
-Somewhat secluded so no city/road noise
-Tent sites have a fire ring, table, bear box-water spigot is found near entrance
-Vault bathrooms were clean
-Camphosts were informative and super nice
-Showers
Cons:
-Sites are close together, therefore you may hear the noise of your neighbors and RVs.
-No cell reception
Tips:
-There are few sites so book early.
-Bring bug spray, mosquitoes and biting flies were present in early September
-Be cautious of wild animals, we had a cougar growl at us while hiking a nearby trail.
-Buy firewood beforehand, didn't see any for sale at the park
-Site 16 is a big site! Room for multi tents

This place has amazing views. We were looking at some boon-docking areas. We went to Soda Pocket Campground. They have several lots with great views. Each lot has a covered picnic table & trashcans to lockup (bears). There are some restrooms available & some great hiking. There is NO CELL SERVICE (AT&T). We smelled a few skunks. We can't wait to try this place out!

A family favorite to stop by this beautiful park. The hiking trails in the south end are very pleasant for beginners. On the north end by the lake, a bit more challenging but well worth the effort. The lakes are surrounded by the terrain, so you have to work hard to not appreciate how beautiful this place is.

Just breathtaking trails, 22 miles of them, that wind all around the area. Sites and trails were clean and managed. While I was there, they had no drinkable water and the showers were closed. Additionally, there is no cell coverage unless you bring your own satellite equipment.
The Rangers, notably Ranger Nick were very knowledgeable and helpful as was the camp host.

Came for a small hike and was not disappointed. Ours was a late afternoon hike on the Wapiti trail located just east of Malaya Lake. Nice parking area. the first 250 yards was moderately steep but as soon as you get to the first "y" trailer marker... go right. Left would be the greater incline going up. The trail was freshly groomed and well marked but was still a beautiful and natural feeling. My complement to the park staff. Great views and great weather. Didn't see any bears but did see many signs of recent bears in the woods deposits (f you get what I mean). Great views overall and of the lake below!

This was our first stop on our NM State Park tour, October 2023.
We stayed in Lake Alice campground. Only 12 sites. Weekend, sites were full. Weekdays, people leave early morningby 1-5pm, RVers are arriving. Probably 75% full midweek.
We got a full hookup site, 38 Renegade Valencia. 30 amp only. Theres a water boil notice. Fine for toilets, showers.
Several sites are large enough for 35-40 with a tow vehicle unhooked. Parked in front of the site.
Staff were fantastic and offers wood for sale daily. Quietest State Park I have ever been too! We camped at Sugarite Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

This campground is several miles outside of Raton NM. We planned on Kayaking and were able to, but the campground we chose was up a rough, two mile road, from the main road. It wasit was a major hassle getting up and down that UNMAINTAINED road to get to our campsite. Once you got to the main road it was a mile to the lake. Showers were a mile in the other direction. Unfortunately I did not get the name of the extremely rude ranger, who when my husband jokingly asked about his uniform responded with, "call the governor if you have a complaint". Beautiful park, just needs attention and staff who care.

Very sweet spot to enjoy the night sky. If you don’t get your choice of camping spaces, bring a canopy because not all spots have full shade. It was also cool to drive into Colorado while exploring the park. Cleanest vault toilets I’ve ever used. The air freshener was an adorable touch. Very blessed to get to enjoy the free camp showers. The very best part of this park, I had absolutely zero cell service. We stayed here to try to get used to the altitude slowly & it did help. Oh and there’s about a million hummingbirds here, watch out, they definitely get in your personal space. The only downside is the RVs that will have their generator on at 5am. But the sweet camp hosts made up for that for sure. We did take the opportunity to go to Capulin volcano which was a nice scenic drive or a quick highway drive, dealers choice. The scenic drive allows for you to see Johnson church & the small town of Folsom. Given the opportunity, I will be back again.

Absolutely loved this out of the way State Park. It's so close to Raton, but most people don't know it's there. 2 great fishing lakes. A couple great campgrounds, and showers!. I've stopped here on my way back home from camping above treeline in Colorado just to get a shower. Sota Camp ground, site 2 & 3 are the best with good tree cover but near open meadows where the Elk and Deer graze.
There are old sites to explore from the mining town that used to be here. Lots of history and trails to follow.
I even saw a black bear while exploring the old town site.

Nice stay for the price. Our 30’ travel trailer with 2 slides and pick up truck just barely fit. Water at spicket had a notice to boil if you’re drinking it. $14 for water and electricity with nice fire pit and picnic table make this place a bargain. Zero cell phone service but we used Starlink which worked fine.

Loved our day here. Hiked along Lake Montoya trail into Colorado. Was still snow on the ground which made the trail very muddy in places. Still loved our hike at this park!
National park featuring a dormant volcano with hiking trails around the base & in the crater.
This is definitely worth a visit. If you are going by on the I-25, its not that far a detour to go. The whole area is fantastic with little craters and peaks. The drive up the volcano is lovely, with amazing views. Once you get to the top, the hiking trail around the rim is a must do, but it is quite strenuous. However its worth it for the views. This really is an amazing landscape and really unique.
The visitor center is nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our visit here.

It’s a nice easy drive to the top. Expect high winds. Really great views, but I don’t recommend hiking the rim in 60 mph winds. Inside the bottom of the crater was nice, but not the views for 50 miles

Capulin Volcano National Monument is a unique and fascinating destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The volcano is an ancient cinder cone volcano that offers a great hike to the rim, and the views are spectacular. I have been wanting to stop here for decades. I finally did it, and it was better than expected. I showed up at 8:30 on a clear morning. I hiked the rim and into the crater. Such amazing views, especially with the snow covered mountains in the background. Really cool.
I enjoyed watching the deer run around in the crater.

How often do you get to drive to the top of a volcano, get out and hike the rim or go down into the vent? Stunning views. Rocky mountains to the north and volcanoes and lava flows to the west.
Staff at the center are awesome and very knowledgeable. Say hi and learn about the area.

Great place for a quick hike around a volcano. I highly recommend the short walk down to the crater. We would to have loved to have hiked some other trails (like the rim of the volcano) but the wind was out of control the day we went.
The drive to the crater is kind of intense as you drive the mildly windy road with a drop off and hardly any guardrails…though the scenic views of New Mexico are picturesque and worth it!
Can be a quick trip and hike down to the crater, just a drive up to the crater, or a day trip spent hiking and exploring the volcano.

Beautiful place to stop along the drive through New Mexico. Unplanned stop but so glad we saw it in passing! If you have kids with you make sure to do the Jr. Rangers program for a badge. Fun drive up to the volcano and super cool hikes down inside and around the rim. Loved it here!

On a road trip, I saw the sign and had to stop. I was unprepared for this and could not make the hike in good faith (no shoes/water/sunblock readily accessible) but very happy I stopped by.
You check in at the visitor center to show your pass and collect a map and then drive to the top parking lot where two trails are easily marked and ready. They post the estimated time to hike and if you come prepared, the views would be amazing. The pictures posted are readily accessible to anyone and worth the trip.

This is one of my favorite places that I never expected to encounter. Found this in passing while I was driving to visit my son in Colorado. A freaking volcano in New Mexico!
This was my second trip to the volcano! There is a trail that takes you down to the volcano vent and another trail that takes you around the rim. Both are very steep and will give your legs and lungs a workout!
That said, the views are amazing and worth the burn!

There's a trail around the rim of this dormant volcano that's well worth the effort involved in taking the one mile walk. It's steep and the air is thin, so take your time. The views of the crater and the surrounding lava field / plains are incredible.

We’d never visited a volcano before and saw the signs off the highway on our way back from Trinidad. Very friendly staff. Drive up the volcano and took the short trail down. Easy going down but for those not in shape, it is a hard trek back up. Because of that, we didn’t get to hike the rim trail. We did love what we saw though. Very interesting. Would love to come back and do the longer trail next time.

Capulin Volcano is a hidden gem for those seeking a serene escape into nature's embrace. My recent visit during the winter season left me enchanted by the tranquility and beauty of this natural wonder.
Despite being the off-season, the park was not busy, allowing for an intimate exploration of its breathtaking landscapes. The snow-covered trails painted a picture-perfect scene, transforming Capulin Volcano into a winter wonderland straight out of a storybook.
What truly made my visit memorable was the warm welcome and hospitality extended by the Park Ranger on duty.
Navigating the park's trails looked like a delight, but it was too icy to attempt the small hikes. From the rim of the volcano, I marveled at the vast expanse of the dormant crater below, a testament to the earth's raw power and beauty.
As I ventured deeper into the park, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of peace and wonder wash over me. The crisp winter air, the silence broken only by the occasional rustle of wildlife, created a sense of harmony with nature that is truly unparalleled.
My visit to Capulin Volcano was nothing short of extraordinary. Whether you're a nature enthusiast seeking solace in the great outdoors or simply looking to immerse yourself in the beauty of winter, Capulin Volcano offers an unforgettable experience that will leave you in awe. A heartfelt thank you to the Park Ranger for their hospitality and dedication to preserving this natural treasure for future generations to enjoy.

Beautiful place. I was only passing through, but decided to stop and see. I drove right up to the entrance and realized it was $20 to get in to see it. Seemed silly, as I was already looking at it and had been for 15 minutes while I drove there. I got out and walked around a little and did some meditating, and had a great experience. It’s probably a lot better if you pay to get in, but I had a great time there anyway!

It has been quite a while since we were here but we love this park and want to go back. There are hiking trails down into the volcano as well as along the rim. Be prepared for extreme winds on the rim. Some of the trail is completely exposed and the sudden gusts could make you lose balance. The views here are absolutely beautiful. You can drive part way up the volcano to a parking lot where there are restrooms. This provides amazing views and you may see some wildlife. We arrived as the park was opening and saw several mule deer on our drive up. We also saw a herd of Pronghorn ib the distance. The hike around the rim is definitely worth the effort. There is a visitor center that has some souvenirs and restrooms. There is no camping here. Definitely worth a visit.

A fantastic day trip with several relatively short trails around lava flows, the crater rim, and down into the crater. The views from the crater rim are breathtaking and the hike down into the crater is an interesting experience.
The roadway to the top only has a few spots with guard rails, but it did not feel unsafe. Drive carefully and enjoy the views once you’re on the top.
Overall, I would highly recommend a detour here on a road trip.

Absolutely beautiful views from the top of the Volcano. You can walk the top rim all the way around and even down to the bottom of the crater. Walking the rim is a 45-90 minute walk, and the crater path is 20-40 minutes. Totally worth the $20 a vehicle to go to the top.

Amazing views! Breathtaking! We got to the top around 3:15. They cut the trails off at 4:15. We were able to circle the mile long crater loop in 30 mins. It has an elevation change of 305ft.
The trail to the bottom of the crater is .2 miles & a change of 105ft. Bring water & a something for your hair, it's windy.
The Crown Jewel of the Scouting program!! So much history and so many young people have hiked here and have taken life long memories back with them. Philmont is a unique experience. My family has been involved with scouting for many years and my wife, Daughter and Son have all been participants and have such great experiences. My daughter was so impressed she worked there for 3 summers. My Son also did a Rayado experience. he now works at Northern Tier and has for the last 4 years. If you have a scout and you want to give your scout a life experience, a chance to grow in spirit and into the person that they may become. The hike builds self confidence , self reliance and most of all it builds the scout knowledge of the many jobs they may find themselves performing in thier future. And as in my case test the scouts nerve and inteligency . while at Philemont 3 or 4th day in. I was giving a cooking class and one of the items on the. Menue was a apple pie in a Dutch oven. A few minuets into the meal. We heard loud banging of pans and people yelling I looked up at the group of about 15 scouts that were facing me I could tell by thier expressions something was wrong and I jokingly asked There's a bear behind me isn't there? All of the guys slowly and altogether shook thier heads yes. I slowly moved around the table I was preparing food on. And there about 25 ft.away was a large 400 to 425lbs cinnamon bear. I looked down there was the 3lb bag of apples. Slowly I retrieved the bag. Then I told the scouts if I get his attention I want you all to slowly start down the hill side to the rangers station about a mile away. I threw the first apple it hit the bear on the head bounced off behind it.the best stopped nose up in the air and followed to the apple. It sat and began eating it. I threw about her further behind it then about her soon I had one apple left I.looked all the scouts where gone and I took that moment to slowly start towards the rangers station myself. I saw the bear look at me so I threw the last apple. Pulled my knife cut the rope that was holding our food stored up in a bear bag in a tree and I took off running. Don't know when but by the time I reached the rangers station I had somehow passed the others and beat them down the hillside. Later the rangers had to kill the bear the noise we had heard earlier was when the same bear had come into a campsite and do to candy in a tent a scout had been bitten and severely hurt.
I found my calling that summer I completed my Eagle scout and after finished school I became a law Enforcement officer and had a career That. Philmount truely helped me find.I got to spend my life being there to help and care for my community and knew that if I could face a bear with just a bag of apples facing any situation from that moment on would be easy. And with training and the unity scouting builds in to scouts I was able to use those lessons to build commodity with all the officers I was so blessed to have worked with. Protecting, serving and being a active member of my dept. City community and this wonderful nation despite its political turmoil. When tradgity strikes unity stands tall.in America.
Proud to stand with my brothers and sisters first responders not only fighting a war but continuing to perform thier duties . from the fire fighters EMS and police to thier president.
Ukrain is fighting a war to save Democracy throughout the world.

There is nothing like Philmont - nothing. It's the pinnacle of the Scouting program and the highlight of many scouts' childhoods - my own included. I will always remember my trek (13-7-12-D2) in vivid detail. It was one of the most difficult things I did growing up - living off my back for 12 days - but one of the most rewarding. It took the suburban city boy in me out into the wilderness in a way that no other Scouting experience can. It's hard to isolate what exactly made it so memorable - there was so much. Climbing Baldy and the Tooth, making it to camp just before the thunder and rain rolled in several days in a row, carrying everything you need on your back, and being in a place where cell phones, if we even had them, just didn't work.
Scouts who might be reading this - please, please, please do everything you can to make it out for a trek at Philmont. It doesn't matter who you are - Philmont will make you a better version of yourself in ways you won't imagine, and in ways you won't fully appreciate until years later. It's worth the sacrifice to come out, experience the backcountry, and earn the arrowhead patch.
I'll be back some day. Until then, IWGBTP!

Great place and all that, just keep in mind if you are planning to go there that the gear in the store is relatively cheap, at least compared to the gear in stores that sell similar items. I would recommend waiting until you get there to buy the gear to save a few hundred dollars

Most memorable experience of my life. Went there in early July of this year and it's really an unforgettable experience. This is some of the most strenuous terrain in the country. Me and my crew endured 72 miles of these mountains throughout 12 days.
If you're planning on going here, I suggest adding Mt. Baldy to your itinerary.

One of my favorite places in the world. Scouts, take a trek here! It will be the adventure of a lifetime.

It has been well over 30 years since I went to Philmont and to this day I still remember my trek. It was amazing

This was my first time ever to Philmont but it will for sure not be the last time! What an amazing place and what an amazing experience! If you want to.really get in touch with nature, take the climbing directors course or one of their many trdeep woods backpacking trips. Nature finds you!

Philmont absolutely legendary experience. When your in the heat of the moment in the NM mountains your ready to take in gods country. The other people are what make the trip special.

Philmont was a great experience for me, and I'm sure it would be for any other scout looking for high adventure. I attended the NAYLE (National Youth Leadership Experience) course here, and it was a lot of fun, as well as pointing me in the right direction to improve my leadership skills. I do wish more control was given to the scouts and less teaching was done for scouts with high adventure experience, but the trip was still beneficial. Not to mention the great veiws.
Zackary Tileston — Google review
The greatest high adventure camp for Scouts, period. I've been here twice, and I was extremely impressed with the quality of the scenery, the facilities, and most importantly the staff. It doesn't get any better. I will be back, and my son will be in a few years. I'm hopeful that he will want to work on staff.

Called.Disneyland for hikers there is a lot to see here. While you can't go into the back country, you can tour the Villa Philmont built by Waite Phillips in the 1920s before he donated the land to the Boy Scouts and visit the Rayado camp that was a homestead and stop along the Santa Fe trail. Then visit the Seton Museum. Before you leave stop at the Tooth of Time trading post at base camp to pick up outdoor gear or souvenirs. Best of all there is no cost for the tours. Make reservations before you go.

I have had two great treks here! Unfortunately the quality of the closing ceremony was cringy at best. I have many good memories here and tons of fantastic photos. Everyone should come here once if you're into scouting and the outdoors. My bus to pick up my crew from the trail was late so we missed the lunch at Basecamp.
This place is amazing, but it is not for the casual camper. First it is 9 miles on a good dirt road to get to the edge of the canyon. Then you have 4 miles drive down a narrow and steep at times dirt/rock road to the valley floor. The campsites are great. They are clean and have a table, fire pit and grill. There are also very nice, clean toilets. However, there is no water available of any kind. There is also no power if you need it and shade is sparce. A pop up canopy is a great addition especially in the summer months. It can get very hot during the day in the canyon. Bring a couple of gallons of water per person per day. There isn't any good river access and in the summer the river is not flowing or inviting. The ruins are interesting and the canyon is spectacular. There are old roads you can use to hike on but there is not a formal trial system. Don't expect to see people either so you need to be ok being alone in the wilderness with no cell signal. Labor Day weekend there was only one other party in the entire park.

Beautiful spot for free camping! Large campsites with picnic tables, grills, fire pits and stalls for horses. Clean bathrooms (no running water.) We stayed at the upper campground in a 25' travel trailer. We hiked down to the lower campground in the canyon. About 7 miles round trip. Bring drinking water.
Gin Woolsey — Google review
Nice place. Be patient when driving down to it.

This canyon is a true hidden gem. Yes, the reviews are true. It's a bit of a trek getting down into the canyon. Has a sign that says RVs and Trailers are not recommended. From pavement to the campsites is over 5 miles at least. There are a few hiking trails, old settlement buildings, and information panels for the canyon. Very well maintained area with very clean vault toilets. This is primitive camping, meaning no water or electricity, so be sure to plan accordingly to enjoy this beautiful place.
Chase Bailey — Google review
Camped by the river on 31 May 23. Only person in the canyon. Sign on the bulletin board said they were considering adding a fee, but it was dated 2022. No fee yet. Good campsites with fire pits, grills and tables. Better have an ATV/4WD if you plan to drive down to the valley campground. Good luck getting a trailer down there, too. The upper campground should be accessible to almost all vehicles, and it has corrals in some of the campsites. There was only 1 vehicle in that campground when I drove through. Worth a slight detour to visit and learn some local history. Beautiful location. Wish I had time to hike some of the trails. Thanks for a great campground!
Eric Brenkert — Google review
First trip here. Road is definitely a little nerve racking but well worth it. No campfires 🔥 were allowed but still had a great time. Ended up being pretty full but was Easter weekend. Toilets were clean and well stocked.

Loved this place. Quite and peaceful. We are going back.
Terry Stewart — Google review
Perfect for a night, vault bathrooms are clean as are the campsites
Ron Peel — Google review
Upper campground is very dry and windswept. Several sites have covered corrals. The road down is an adventure, but no real problems. But it is quite a bit further down and further along, to the bottomland campground. Several miles, the first two being real doozies. The campsites at the bottom are nowhere near the river. A scramble through snake infested underbrush for about 40 yards will get you to the river bank.
John Byrne — Google review
Very nice campground. It takes a while to get there and the road is bumpy so if you don’t have high clearance, drive slowly. The canyon is also real pretty.
Rachel Reed — Google review
I stop here every time I drive across the country. Epically beautiful, generally pretty solitary. If you run into anybody, they're guaranteed to be very interesting.
Warning: the sign at the mouth of the canyon road says "RVs not recommended" I would venture to say that no wheeled vehicle save for a 4-wheeler is recommended, it is very rough and full of switchbacks. There's actually an old Rv trailer that fell into the canyon wedged between some rocks along the path.
How do you tell the difference between an alpaca and a llama? A llama is cute and an alpaca is ADORABLE!! This place is a hidden gem in the area. They have an excellent gift shop with reasonably priced alpaca clothing, blankets, yarn, and many more. The tour was fun as we fed alpaca out of our hands. Impress your friends with an eye to eye alpaca photo. Overall a wonderful time! If I'm ever back in the area I'll be sure to stop by. Absolutely worth the drive from Angel Fire.
While I don't knit, you can buy yard that has a picture of the alpaca it came from. Amazing!

The Victory Ranch is a great place to take the kids; they will get hands-on and up-close interaction feeding these beautiful docile creatures. Make sure to call ahead first; they may not be open that day, or the animals may have just been shaved. I visited here with my parents in 2007.

It is a fun place to take kids. We feed alpacas and learned about them and the working dogs on the tour that they do at the ranch. The owner is super nice and helpful. They have a good selection of alpaca yarn and just aquiered a good selection of standard yarn that they sell.

The llamas were fun to watch and the store had a few interesting items.

Very educational. You can take a tour of the animal areas and even feed them. The store is very well kept with a huge selection of luxury Alpaca wool items. Pretty pricy too. Beautiful ranch too.

What a cool place! I was able to talk with the owner, Carol, and her ranch manager Eric and ranch hand Alex at length about alpacas. This is definitely a stop you NEED to make. We got to feed the alpacas and the store is lovely. I'm literally loving the boot socks I got and my daughter wears her hat and gloves everywhere. Stop in, say hi, enjoy the day!

This is a must do! Educational & fun for all. The owner & staff make you feel like family & who doesn't want to be with the cutest Alpacas on earth. Gift shop also excellent!

This was an interesting place to visit. We came when it was a little dreary outside and the lady in the gift shop was very pleasant to us. However, the man who gave us the "tour" was very distant. He wasn't very welcoming and kind of mean. This was a nice place to come for an hour.
Wagon-wheel ruts on the site of 3 successive forts, designated a national monument in 1954.
Interesting historical information, very educational and worth taking 2 hours to enjoy the interpretive trail. Information displays throughout the walk that explained the timeline of use and what daily life was like for enlisted soldiers through the commanders.
Path was packed fine gravel that would be ok for strollers or wheelchairs.

It's a very interesting place with a lot of history. Not only do they have the ruins but they also have a very informative meusum inside the gift shop. When we went there wasn't much of a crowd at all which was nice. We got to enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature all to ourselves.

A neat place to explore the historic Fort Union and learn about the Santa Fe trail. There is a long and short trail that tells the story of the Fort with open vistas of the valley and mountains. It was a windy day when we visited, so be prepared for potential gusts.
Vicente Panizo — Google review
I thought Fort Union was an awesome stop off of interstate 25. The park rangers at the fort were very informative and had a lot of knowledge on the forts history. We spent about 20 minutes chatting with the ranger about the history of the fort and the surrounding area. I enjoyed seeing the Santa Fe trail ruts and the marker in the center of the fort displaying the altitude above tidewater. Really a cool place, highly recommend.

Another awesome Park to visit. I won't go into the history, but a nice 1 hour walk through the grounds will describe the unique history of this place in relation to the Santa Fe Trail...
Mike McGuire — Google review
Beautiful scenery with an easy 1.5 mile walk. You can still see ruins from a distance in the parking lot and there is information indoors as well. Pretty chilly out with a little snow on the ground early March 2024. Sun was shining and there is information about these historic ruins along the trail that explains what each of the buildings were used for when they were functional. Would love to go again and spend a few hours to take it all in.

Excellent history lesson at this National Park site along the Santa Fe Trail. Ruins of the adobe walls are all that remain of the largest Army post at the time west of the Mississippi. Incredible setting in the New Mexico grasslands with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the background. Walk the 1 mile self guided fort tour to get the full experience. Worthy of the short trip off the interstate.

Fascinating history of 3 types of forts at this site and the evolution of its role in early US history. Ranger Barley was awesome as was the store and displays.
We got to watch live history at the park. Definitely worth the ride to see

We visited on 12/20/2023 and had the monument to ourselves. The rangers were friendly and shared a bit of the history. We were able to walk around what remains of the fort. The visitor center was nice and informative. Our kids enjoyed it quite a bit! Entrance is free.

The whole tour was great. Guides were excited to share their knowledge and impressed with the number of Diné students participating. New knowledge was accumulated. Not only did the guides give a tour but went out of their way to do a fun real-life activity with the group with 95% active participation. Everyone including myself looked forward to the card drawing at every stop and ending with 3 pops. See you next trip!

Love Love Love it!! Sooo much history…you can just feel it! Seeing the SF Trail and realizing what they endured. The passing of time and how things change so. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Sweet Visitor Center and Gift Shop. Clean restrooms. Several picnic spots that are nice and clean. Great for a family outing!!!

Be sure to visit the office first to take a brochure/map of the trail. No snakes on any of the trails I took luckily but they do warn you could encounter one. It's pretty windy in Aug and also very sunny but it was a nice walk around. Lots to see and intake, souvenir shop also located inside the office and restrooms too. Be sure to take your time and bring covered shoes, there's cactus in the grass too.

Lovely museum. Attached to a functioning courthouse. Looks small from the outside but theres plenty to see on the interior. Small but interesting gift shop section. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. Inside contains the history of the area, as well as a large portion dedicated to Teddy Roosevelt, particularly during his Rough Riders era. Worth the visit! There are also cute downtown areas and other historical locations in town.

Small, quiet and hidden but any Teddy R fan would/will love it. Only place I've seen a World War One brass spun mechanical time fuze and some of pretty nice quality cuban/Spanish era uniforms.

Great little museum with local history and artefacts. No cost to visit, but they have a small shop and a donation box to support their mission.
Former location of an Indian village, Spanish mission, Civil War battlefield & Greer Garson's ranch.
Arriving into the town where the park was at, there was two options. The historical park and the state park. I wasn't sure which one to go to, so we chose to go with the higher rated location. Arriving at the historical park, it looked small and not much other then the gift shop. It has a little museum in it with some great Native American artifacts. We decided to try the trail and found that the Pueblo was not only real but accessible. It was an incredible site and experience something that's been up for such a long time. Beautiful environment and so very thankful we decided to go this amazing place.

We visited during the wildfires, so only the Ancestral Sites Trail was open. But that turned out to be perfect! It was warm out, so the quick 1.5 mile round trip trail was perfect. We loved reading all of the information and seeing the historical sites. Very cool! I highly recommend it! And if you’re bringing a stroller or wheelchair, this is a great path for you as well!

Enjoyed our visit to Pecos National Historical Place. The visitors center provided an excellent introduction through a series of thoughtful exhibits. Appreciated that many exhibits had items to touch and feel that would engage children in the content. There is also a short orientation film. From the visitors center there is a self guided trail of about 1 1/4 miles through the ancestral sites It's done in packed gravel. There's a slight elevation gain of 80 feet. For those who find that too much you can drive up to a second parking lot by the church and explore that area.
Mary Morrison — Google review
The only word that really comes to mind is wow. A history lesson on top of live ruins and absolutely gorgeous landscape all around. 1.25 mi hike, which was very easy. Our entire party had on hiking boots but they really are not required (although they do come in handy if you don't want to stain your regular walking shoes with red clay). The weather was perfect on the day we visited. There is no charge to enter, although I highly recommend the $2.00 booklet which takes you through the 15 or so stations giving the history of the area. The remains of the Pueblo style Pecos church were quite gorgeous. You can spend about an hour and a half here pretty easily taking it all in. This was sort of an afterthought, discovered when we were driving from Carlsbad to Santa Fe. Honestly, I think we would have missed out on either the second or third coolest thing that we did the entire trip had we not discovered this place. This is not a gigantic National Park so it will not consume half of the day or more. But you will be thankful that you decided to stop and take in the beauty. My 9-year-old was able to get a junior ranger patch here. All of the park rangers are very friendly, and this is definitely a hidden gem of a National Park.

What a wonderful place to commune with nature while honoring the history & culture of the area's indigenous People! Such a well preserved park, along with it's ruins, native foliage & wildlife...
The views along the trails were absolutely breath-taking. Highly recommend this park for history buffs, nature lovers, future conservationists & the those who gravitate to spiritual or shamanistic places to connect with the Past while appreciating one's Present.
Noted: Though the Park continues to upkeep the grounds & it's ruins, I'd like to see the local gov't office provide their grounds keepers a suitable place to stow away the materials necessary to maintain it-- out of plain sight-- so the trails & the views it holds remain the focus of one's experience. ^=^
Don't forget to stop by the visitor center & gift shop for your memorabilia! They offer tours & historical movie shows to learn more about this little gem just outside of the Pecos National Park.

The whole area is such a historic place and a crossroad for such different civilizations throughout history. It is totally worth the time to visit it. This is a very cool park. If you can join a ranger walk I’d highly recommend it. The movie and museum were both very well done. The trails are easy but somewhat challenging with a stroller or wheelchair due to the rock and inclined. There is RV parking for about 4 rigs although I’m not sure if you would be able to access the further picnic area. The staff is very friendly

Welcome to one of the largest travel centers in America, complete with a head shop section full of glass, grinders, and goodies as well as 5 other inner stores, under one roof, disguised as a truck stop. Mexican blankets and southwest decorations to suit every taste (?). Clothes and ice cream. T-shirts and slippers.
Wow………..
As previous reviewers have mentioned, and the billboards on I-40 have declared for the last 5 miles, the bathrooms are impeccably clean and well-designed. Be careful to pay obeisance to the fortune teller boxes though, straight out of Coney Island, as you walk the hall leading there.
There are at least a dozen gas pumps outside under the tall metal ceiling that can accommodate even an over-sized load of giant dozers on a flatbed truck without even coming close to the roof. The parking lot is massive as well so remember where you parked if it’s busy.
Having a Subway restaurant is a big plus for a travel center way out east on I-40 so dive in and tip the serving staff well.

Good place to stop for a restroom break. On the walk back to the restrooms I had to grin at the retro fortune telling machine…brings back memories of my childhood when we would drive across country and stop off at these little places to gas up and go to the restroom. The restrooms here were pretty good, clean, spacious, and lots of stalls. Better than the cold rest area a few miles up the road!
Didn’t explore anything else here but the exterior has a neat retro facade.

This was a fun stop. It's huge inside with all kinds of souvenirs. Stop by the fresh fudge section. The lady behind the counter was making fresh fudge. We bought 1 pound, four different flavors. So creamy and good.

The best thing about this place is the restrooms because there's a lot of them and there is clean.
It's under construction especially the diesel part.
There's a Phillips 66 here there's a Conoco here and a Chevron here but Phillips 66 is the only one that functioning.
There is a lot of tourist stuff inside and you can have a Subway if you want.
They also have a lot of nice truck parking that is really really popular and sometimes truckers block each other in. At least the parking spots are marked.
I hear there's an employee that is always saying there's a lot of truck parking once an hour even though the trucker's say there is some parking and it makes it so the parking lot gets jammed up when truckers run out of hours.
Thanks employee, not really.

They have lots of things to offer from food to souvenirs. Hate we missed the souvenirs part, was only able to look at that side and not walk around :-( Didn’t eat the food so have no clue about the quality. Restrooms were clean and lots of stalls. If you're a truck driver, parking is wonderful. Everything is overpriced. The washer and dryer are new but need to be maintained properly, did not spin out water. Tourist trap with semi truck parking. Truckers have to walk all the way around the building to the Phillips 66 because the chevron is closed. There is no entrance or exit on the trucker side of the lot. Normally not an issue but not cool in the dark or cold. Half the store is closed. Half the bathrooms are closed.
