The McAdam train station is amazing. Steeped in interesting history and beautifully restored (the first floor), this is one place you need to check out.
Each year in November the community hosts a week long "Christmas at the Station" event. Volunteers decorate rooms, Christmas music is piped in and the feeling of good cheer is rich.
In the late Spring to late Fall you can stop by for a guided tour with local hosts who really know their stuff. Shout out to Emily and Sam!
Also don't miss the beautiful 3 KM trail around the pond out back of the station. It's incredible. It's accessible all year although it can get very muddy in early Spring.

Thank you so much to our wonderful tour guide who took us through the station. He was very engaging and informative and our whole family had a great time. Definitely a hidden gem just off the beaten path!

I was passing by and saw the place. Of course I knew the place from facebook but never had time to visit. I am glad I went in. The lady at the front info desk was very welcoming and sweet. She offered me a tour but I had no time to go on one hour long tour. But I walked around the place with my little kid and It was awesome. My kid loved the place.
It is a railway museum so expect lots of Atlantic Pacific Railway related stuff. Also there is a diner/ railway themed restaurant if you wanna enjoy the food.
Kaushalya Rathnayake — Google review
We came here to check out the historic station. When we entered the building, we were asked if we were there for the pie. Huh? We had no idea what they were talking about, but we soon found out that on Sundays they serve pie at the lunch counter while a man dressed as a conductor gives a talk on the history of the train station. We ordered two slices of pie, but both pieces were so large, we could only share the one and saved the other for later. We got the coconut cream pie, which was delicious, but they have others. Also, we were too late for the talk, but with pie, it costs $15 each to attend. Without the talk, it is $10 per piece of pie. I recommend that you buy one piece and share it unless you're VERY hungry.

Great service and the young man that did the tour was very knowledgeable.
Ron Whitlock — Google review
What a great experience a must do . Love what they are, doing with the Old Train station. The tour was great the tour guide was engaging and fun. Only disappointment was that the wood carving of the train conductor rotted out fell over. Only thing that would of made it better was a train going by maybe next time lol.
Lisa-Mae MacDonald — Google review
Went up to the McAdam Train Station for a craft sale...we walked the 2.8 km walking trail...you might want some bug spray...lots of places to sit on benches and enjoy the view and take pictures around the train station pond...it is a wood path so watch your step over roots and rocks...I was in flip flops no problem...there was a lunch of ham and cheese sandwhiches tea or coffee and homemade cookies for dessert for $5.50...there is a gift shop where I purchased a recipe book on the pies that use to be served at the Station. Also a train engine for my grandson..there are guided tours available...a lot of history is tied up at the Station

We had a guided tour. It was extremely interesting! This building is amazing.

I enjoyed every minute of the tour. Our guide was excellent. She gave us a wonderful history lesson on McAdam and its beautiful train station.
Lord Daniel — Google review
Like this place very much! Want to be back and to spend more time to read everything that I didn't have time to read having children with us.
Wish they can have some events in the restaurant and train rides to the different cities.
Kristina Shirai — Google review
We biked to McAdam and on a whim decided to do the tour of the train station. What a lovely tour. The staff was knowledgeable. They are constantly improving and saving this important historic landmark. Well worth a visit.
Kingsbrae Garden is a beautiful venue with both old and new themed gardens, sculptures, an art studio, and dining facilities. The garden boasts over 50,000 perennials and is ranked as one of Canada's top 10 gardens. Visitors can enjoy wandering through the cedar maze or taking in the Dutch windmill or sculpture garden. The Gardens are also home to various animals such as peacocks and alpacas.
The relaxing walk through these beautiful gardens is well worth your vacation time and the cost of admission.
Well maintained and laid out. Easy walking, with almost half of the paths in shade.
Surprises included finding the secret garden, seeing a tree from Australia, and enjoying the sculpture garden. To think I almost skipped it!
Restaurant on site offering unique dishes using some herbs and veggies grown on the property.
Some animals and miniature buildings for the young at heart.
The gift shop seemed more expensive than shops at other attractions.

Was a fun day !! Visited there when it was pumpkin festival. 🎃 enjoyed walking around to locate the turquoise pumpkins which had letters on them for a scavenger hunt. They had guess the weight of a large pumpkin. Kids could colour pumpkins and take home. Through out the paths there are benches to stop and enjoy the flowers. Winding paths go through some woodsy areas. They have a tiny petting zoo with alpacas, goats, rabbits. There was also butterfly farm which was vacant as they were already released. A beautiful place to visit when in St. Andrew's New Brunswick
Debbie Theodoses — Google review
We stopped in to see this garden in the summer and really enjoyed ourselves. It was beautifully laid out with a map that was easy to follow. The different sections were well manicured and there was some cool art features to see. I would definitely recommend.
Vanessa Becker — Google review
These gardens are beautiful! Way more to do and look at then I thought! I thought it might be 40mins to an hour we were there for two and could have stayed longer. ( would have too if we did not have tickets to go to Minsters island) They have a few farm animals you can look at and enjoy. Two cool little play area for younger kids. Wood play houses. My nine year old loved them. They have an area full of different art sculpture. Carving and art work all threw out. Lots of benches for little breaks. We when with my inlaws who loved it along with our nine year old so who also enjoyed it. Will go back again to see all the areas we missed out lol.

Beautiful gardens, tremendous staff all the way from the admission desk to the servers, hosts and cooks at the cafe to the folks helping people get around the grounds. Our server, Paige, at the cafe was a real gem and a pleasure. I enjoyed one of their newest creations, the KFC (Kingsbrae Fried Chicken) and it was easily one of the greatest meals I've ever had! To all the behind-the-scenes staff who clean, maintain and keep this place in shape, a big thank you! The amphitheatre was designed to a tee and every little detail thought out perfectly. What a great place to see Jimmy Rankin. He and his band really nailed it on this Canada Day!
Andrew Schuhmann — Google review
A wonderful time spent walking the gardens. So many beautiful flowers and pathways. A reflective place for adults and whimsical place for children. Enjoyed the tiny houses, sculpture garden and a lovely lunch and dessert at the cafe.

Such an incredible spot to visit. Photos truly can’t do it justice. You could easily spend over 2 hours here just looking at everything. So much to see. So many wonderful smells from all the plant life and flowers. The statues and artwork are amazing. Truly a place to go see when in the area.

The food and gift shop is one of the best in this charming town..... and the Gardens are an exceptional exceptional experience showcasing many talented works by gardeners and artists.
Donna Gardiner Thompson — Google review
Beautiful gardens with a classy restaurant and patio. Food is pretty top notch. We had an issue with one dish and it was easily removed from our bill without asking. We come every time we are in St. Andrew’s — we will be back.
negrotski — Google review
My hubby and I spent some time in St. Andrews for our honeymoon. Kingsbrae Garden was one of our favourite places that we visited! They have such peaceful and beautiful gardens to walk through! We spent about an hour there, but could have easily enjoyed a couple more hours!
Mindy Giesbrecht — Google review
A magical place fully equipped with all you need to feel like you're in a fairytale, including a secret garden.
We spent 2hrs in here easily just walking around, reading all the signage for the flowers and even taking in a feeding at the animal garden. From the maze to the windmill, the children's fantasy garden to the peace garden, each section was well thought out and complimented the variety of experiences within. They even have a scents and sensations garden for those who may be blind to have an experience catered for them.
While everything wasn't in full bloom yet, it still offered plenty of colour around the grounds and we loved it, even on a gray day.
Andrew N. Byrne — Google review
Visited late August so some of the flowers weren't blooming but still beautiful and worth the visit! Lot of benches for resting in 20+ acres. Well kept and designed.
Wanda F (angelsidedevil) — Google review
Beautiful place to visit and learn more about the world we live in. The garden was amazing. I like that there is a several million year old tree... Wow. Such attention to details. The groundskeepers are amazing! Working so hard to keep everything beautiful!
Lisa Duncan — Google review
Had a wonderful visit. Gardens fascinating and so well tended. Have never seen so many pumpkins! Staff friendly and all seemed to love the gardens.
Margaret Ross — Google review
Amazing place for family walk! We enjoyed our 2 hours walk completely: each corner full by natural beauty 😍 Various flowers, trees, sculptures, fountains, Memorials, gardens, working mill, exotic samples.
My kids liked animal zone 🐐 🤩
We relaxed in garden with fountain. I didn't expect to see subtropical samples😃
If you have more than 2 hours, you can enjoy walk in Acadian forest. Or to have dinner in Garden's cafe.
Great place!

Kingsbrae Garden Rocks. If I could give this 6 stars, I would. This park has everything: gardens, sculptures, secret gardens, ponds an on and on. Check out the pictures- they are fantastic. Also check out the gift shop.

Woth the stop especially if they have the building open to look in. It's a, quick tour with a, lot of cool history. The two young ladys working the day we stopped in were great. Full of information great at answering questions and chitchat back and fourth. After your done in the building you can go check out the cannons. It's in a beautiful spot to look out if the tied is out go out and walk on a Rocky beach.
Lisa-Mae MacDonald — Google review
St. Andrew's Blockhouse Historic Place is a hidden gem! The rich historical atmosphere and well-preserved artifacts make it a must-visit. In the evenings, it transforms into the perfect spot for leisurely walks, whether you're enjoying a quiet stroll or taking your furry friend for a dog walk. However, do note that during my visit, it was unfortunately closed. Despite that, the scenic surroundings still offer breathtaking views, creating a picturesque backdrop for your explorations. A hidden historical treasure worth exploring, especially for those who appreciate a serene evening ambiance and stunning vistas. Highly recommend for history enthusiasts, but it's advisable to check for opening hours before planning your visit.

Incredible piece of history, in an incredible historic town. If you've any interest in the history of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, or even of England & the U.S.A., I wholeheartedly recommend checking this out.
Jacob Melanson — Google review
Very neat place to learn some history and information on our country. It is humbling to see some of the ways people had to live inorder for our nation to grow. Trade was important to survival and it was neat to read about the local areas putting differences aside for survival in some situations.
Heather M — Google review
It was not wheelchair accessible due to loose gravel trails. It has a ramp that is difficult to use as the path and parking are not good. My wife could see the place while I had to wait in parking lot in my wheelchair as it was to hard for her to push me through all that loose gravel. This could easily be fixed at little cost and if thought about before it would have cost no extra. Hope it is corrected for others to enjoy.

Not a bad pitstop on your way to the downtown area.
The blockhouse itself wasn't open and I am unsure if it ever is. However, the surrounding scenery makes this place worth the stop.

Great information and easy-to-see site! Easy parking and situated on the water. Bring a picnic or eat locally. Nice spot to spend an afternoon.
jem brickner — Google review
This was a great stall that has a lot of history to it. It is a great place to visit at low tide to be able to walk out on to the ocean floor and explore the unique rock formations.
Andy Smith — Google review
Nice little spot highlighting Canadian history. If you come during my low tide there is a spot you can walk way out into the ocean bed, not often you can say you walked the ocean floor.
Trevor Cuming — Google review
A neat defense against early privateers. There are panels with the history on them with pictures to help keep people engaged. Awesome to see this monument in the well kept state it is in. Great photos and just an overall pleasant piece of history to visit.
Cody — Google review
The Blockhouse is a historic site, and a great place to visit. During operating hours there are pleasant staff to answer questions about the building and it's significance. It's close to a spit where you can let your dog off-leash(best at low tide). There is also a parkette immediately across the street with nice landscaping, benches, and public washrooms.
Pretty good little aquarium for a small town. My family, especially my 3 yr old, had a BLAST!! Favourite parts, of course, were the touch pools and seeing Snorkel the seal.😍 Wish we could have seen the seal talk program, alas we were too late for the first and too early for the second. 🤣🤷♀️ Would definitely recommend this place if you're visiting St Andrews and surrounding area....especially if you have kids.
C O — Google review
Small aquarium with a few fish tanks and the star of the show are 2 seals and there's a small tank where kids can pet a crab and a starfish. Don't expect a Ripley's experience but good enough for an hour's fun for most kids. You can also access the beach from there. Entrance is about 15$ for adults and kids under 3 for free. Ample parking space.
Z K — Google review
This place is a must stop for our family when we do our Yearly Saint Andrew's trip. The staff here are fantastic and knowledgeable and we're extremely patient while my 3 kids surrounded the touch tank. They were informative and helpful the entire time. The experience is around 2 hours if you explore the full inside and take your time to explore the beach out back as well. You can go walk on the ocean floor when the tides are our which is always our favorite part of the experience! 10/10 would reccomend.

What a delight to have gone on the the Citizen Science Marine Cruise! This experience is truly one of a kind. It has given us lasting memories that we will cherish. Laura and the two captains, Gary and Pat, were exceptional guides. We learned so much about the local marine life in Passamaquoddy Bay. And bringing these marvels back to the lab to learn and view was outstanding. 🙌🏻
Ann MacKay — Google review
The Huntsman is an excellent place to learn about the diverse marine life in Atlantic Canada. The displays range from large tanks featuring schools of fish to interactive touch displays where you can let starfish crawl in your hand.
The variety of marine life is impressive, and the staff are knowledgeable. This marina is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Trevor Woods — Google review
Such a fun place for kids and adults to engage in learning about our marine life, history, ecosystems and sustainability. Definitely a good addition to your trip. The touch tanks are really fun :)
Scott Anthony Smith — Google review
Don't let the grumpy one star reviews deter you from visiting the Huntsman Marine Science Centre. Our kids ages 5-10 absolutely loved it. Snorkel the seal was a hit (aim to be there for feeding time) after feeding he might disappear for a bit to nap. The touch tank was great (yes not like the big one folks are complaining about) and the employee was very kind and knowledgeable and helpful with the kids. The large tanks for viewing were very entertaining to watch all the creatures. The tanks downstairs are great too, lots of awesome fish and creatures to view. The cutest seahorses you'll ever see. Definitely a visit to this well cared for spot!
Mind's Eye Creative — Google review
Well, let me tell you, this place was a major letdown. The so-called "new" touch tank they have now is a measly 2x5 ft, and they only have star fish, crabs, and clams. Talk about a downgrade! The old touch tank area is practically empty. The whole point of the place was the big touch tank, so with it gone it lost all the excitement. Apparently, they made the change after Covid to interact more with guests and keep the animals safe. But seriously, were they not concerned before? Also, there was no seal anymore cause it never showed the whole time we were there. I spent a whopping half hour there, and let me tell you, it was boring. Definitely not worth the drive. Save your money and skip this place. Trust me, it's a big disappointment, especially for the kids.
The first picture is the “new” touch tank. The 2nd and 3rd picture show the old tank, and it's clear that they had almost nothing there.
M Emzki — Google review
Omg my kids absolutely loved this place!!!
There is so much to see and learn.
They loved the touch tank and the seals. And they were mesmerized by the ghost jellies.
They even had some wonderful art to view. Definitely be back for another day trip
Al Hal — Google review
Nice aquarium with some interesting and educational exhibits. Make the most of your visit with one of their science experiences. Great for kids.
Ruben Stemple — Google review
Kids had a great time looking at the different sea creatures. It was my first time here aswell and I really enjoyed learning about the different fish and sea creatures. I got to hold a star fish and see a woman get soaked by a huge fish lol (total fluke) . I also enjoyed going outside and seeing all the scenery and going down on the beach. Lots of memories created here.
Brenden B — Google review
Beautiful place to visit but was kinda disappointed with what little is available to see there in sea life. The seal tank was also very cloudy. It wasn't clear to see the seal.

Roosevelt Campobello International Park is a vast nature park located on the southernmost part of Campobello Island. The main attraction here is the Roosevelt Cottage, which was once Franklin D Roosevelt's summer home and has now been converted into a museum displaying original furniture and artifacts from his time as president. Adjacent to this cottage is Hubbard House, which was built in 1891 and also open to visitors.
Beautifully preserved and presented house of President Roosevelt. Tours are free and the guides do a great job taking you through the house and telling you about the history. An important stop for anyone visiting Campobello.
TC — Google review
Such a beautiful spot filled with so much history! It was torrential rain when I was there, so I didn't get a chance to fully explore all the trails in the park. I think a second trip may be needed! My tour guide was wonderful and brought alive the spirit of the Roosevelts. The Visitor's Center is full of information as well as fun souvenirs.
Sharon Durkee — Google review
A great park of the history... Its a must to be seen when coming to Campobello Island.. The upkeep of this cottage and the grounds is phenominal...Loved the story telling :)
Gis?le Vautour — Google review
Campobello is a friendly quiet beautiful place. My wife and I spent the day on the island with our dogs. If you're into hiking, there's plenty to do. You can drive to most of the site seeing places. Go there!
Douglas Leonard — Google review
We've been to many national parks over the years, but this was our first international park (as in a park run by two countries). The park offered a fascinating look into the recreational life of FDR and his families. You could tour their palatial summer cottage, have high tea while enjoying a talk on Elinor Roosevelt, stroll along the tree-lined lane, and more. Plus, there's nature trails and a 19th century lighthouse. Well worth the trip over the border for sure!
Nathan Deremer — Google review
One of the best kept secrets of Campobello Island at least each time I mention the Island to a mainlander and they say where. Well home to President Roosevelt's summer cottage, oh really then I have there attention. Got to see the cottage on our recent trip this year from the front and from the water. Have been through the cottage many times as a kid and this past visit was sorry it was closed to the pandemic but hopefully next visit I will get another trip though the grounds and inside.
Tim Chase Photography — Google review
This is a special place, both for it's beauty and the history. Our second visit, with friends who were there for the first time. The buildings are in fine shape, the grounds are lovely and peaceful. The highlight is tea with Eleanor, don't miss it. Fine hiking in the park well worth your time.
E — Google review
One of the best park experiences we've had anywhere, even though it was a rainy day. Wonderful, super-helpful and knowledgeable staff. We learned so much about the Roosevelt family. Start at the Visitor Center, where you can get a map and see a short orientation film. Tours of the Roosevelt "cottage" are in small groups every few minutes. Tours of the Hubbard Cottage are on your own. We had lunch at the Prince Cafe, then went to Eleanor's Tea, which is a very good 45-minute presentation by staff on Eleanor Roosevelt, accompanied by tea and gingersnaps. (Guys, this is not your grandmother's tea--you'll enjoy this. Tip: sit where you can see the monitor over the fireplace--they'll show photos while they're speaking.) All free.
Linda Suskie — Google review
So much history here that has been beautifully maintained. Highly recommend attending “Tea with Eleanor” if you get the chance. The staff were so knowledgeable and kind!
Josie Glidden — Google review
The tour is guided and free. Liz guided us through the home offering many details about the historical aspect of the summer cottage. We learned a lot about FDR and Eleanor, as well as their family. This park is still operated by both the US and Canada. Enjoy lunch at the Prince Cafe. We ate a BLT, Chicken pesto panini, and hot dog. Each entree came with chips and dill dip. We also endulged in a brownie sundae, delicious. Hope you enjoy your trip!
Annie Jones — Google review
A special place indeed. An "international park" as they call it, although you must be in Canada for visit. The site of President Roosevelt's summer cottage and area he met his wife.
When we went the visitors center had just closed, but the staff were extremely helpful in going back inside unprompted and providing us with maps and assistance. They went the extra mile and made our brief trip well worth it.
The cottage itself seems marvelous. There are views looking out to Eastport, Maine which seems so close you could cast a stone to it's shores. The trails make for lovely strolls. Worth a visit.
Seth M — Google review
We had such a lovely visit and our tour guide Landen was full of historical facts and entertaining detail. This is a wonderful place to spend the day and learn about Franklin Delano Roosevelt and family.
Angelia Shelton — Google review
If you're interested in History, you need to visit this park. It's currently the only international park in the world, it's jointly funded by both Canada and the USA, it has been maintained perfectly.
The West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is a well-preserved and picturesque historic site that includes a keeper's house and an on-site visitor's center. The location of the lighthouse at the easternmost point of the United States provides for a unique experience, with beautiful views and walking paths on the grounds leading down to a beach. While the lighthouse itself may be closed during certain times of year, visitors can still appreciate its beauty from afar.
The lighthouse, as well as the setting, was idyllic. I couldn't believe how much cooler the temperature was here than at other spots I'd visited during my trip. Knowing I was at the end of the United States -- from an eastern standpoint -- was fun.
Bobby Painter — Google review
Beautiful place. There is a parking lot up from the light house and handicap parking right by the lighthouse. The park opens at 9 but the visitors center, museum, gift shop opens at 10. There is a pay here box as you walk down from the parking lot that I encourage you to pay at. It costs $4 per person for out of state. This money goes to preserving the lighthouse. There are restrooms by the parking lot. There are several trails that take you down to the beach area and around the state park.
Jill Roaden — Google review
Visiting the lighthouse furthest east on the United States eastern seaboard was a delight, even if the most intense fog rolled in to spoil my pics of it. The bizarre, yet most interesting, things about it are that you can literally AirBNB here and it costs money to tour it. While no park rangers were around, much of the trek back didn't seem to bad. Lots of windy roads and scenic desolation to get there, but once there, the scene is beautiful. Tranquility as a place. There was a family there staying and I think we kind of scared them a little, as they rushed to get into the house while we were approaching. The parking area is dirt and gravel, and the hill down is a subtle grade, but once there, the view could be spectacular. Head out to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and discover what I mean! Then head into Lubec for some delightful seafood at the Fisherman's Wharf!
W. Jeff Crawford — Google review
We drove to see this lighthouse. Grounds are beautiful. Unfortunately, the lighthouse was not open and couldn't climb in this one. It was the beginning of the season for this area. It was very cold and windy the day we went. There is a .5 mile trail that is great to walk. It takes you on a path up to different areas to see "Dangerous" Bluffs and then to steps to look out into the water. Beautiful outdoors. Highly recommend. Be sure to watch the weather as when we arrived the weather was clear and then fog was rolling in after walking the trails. This area does have a price of $4 and is done on an honor basis.
Debbie Ahrens Carr — Google review
The views are awesome, the grounds are beautiful with walking paths and stairs down to a beach. The lighthouse was closed until July 1st but was still pretty neat to see.
Jim DeGennaro — Google review
This lighthouse is beautiful! There are plenty of hiking trails if you're adventurous, but also a fence to just stand and admire the ocean view too. This lighthouse is on the most eastern point of Maine and worth the drive.
Annie Jones — Google review
This was a great Light House! Staff was very friendly. Had a great Trail right off the drive to the Light House and it was a fun little hike! Great place to visit the eastern most point of the US.
Robert Smiley — Google review
The town is a very quiet town. The main attraction (probably the only attraction), is the west quoddy head lighthouse. The views are spectacular, for sunrise and sunset right in front of the lighthouse. Even on the off season people still go and see it but other than the lighthouse the towns a ghost town, at least off season. The fisherman's wharf is one of the very few restaurants in town and it's a hit or a miss when they are open. They also have a hotel as well called the inn on the wharf. We were only there a few days but the owners seemed nice from what we saw.
Lubec is hours away from most people, a long drive but seeing the lighthouse is worth it. Even though the town doesn't maintain it well (it needs painting), it's still a stunning lighthouse with amazing views and photo opportunities.
Overall, 5 stars. One of my favorite places! ❤️
Tonia Taylor — Google review
Very cool! They do close at 4, in summer, so we couldn’t go inside. But the whole area is gorgeous. The picture with easternmost point in US will be memorable.
Nancy M — Google review
Love lighthouses and this one's beautiful. The weather was perfect and the fog was further out in the ocean. The museum is very informative and the staff is successful!! We hiked around the State Park and saw more incredible sights.
Sharon Akiyama — Google review
This charming lighthouse is worth a visit. Easy access and great views. While your there, enjoy the trails.
Carl Pysher — Google review
The admission fee is an honor box (green) near the entry sign at the trail head from the parking lot. There is not a lot to see here unless you are doing a four corners type of adventure. However, it's something to tell people...great bucket list item.
Jim Munroe — Google review
Watched a breathtaking sunrise here at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Lubec, Maine October 11, 2023. Highly recommend this experience! The visitors center was closed but there were 12-15 other people gathered to watch. All who gathered were respectful of this magestic opportunity for photographing.

Great place. Really beautiful lighthouse. Very important Easternmost point of USA. Surroundings are amazing too. Got to see some Bald Eagles sitting on the ocean rocks. And could see the far away island views too. Beautiful ocean views. We also saw here, a porcupine walking from the nearby trees areas. Great visit indeed. We loved our time here.

I am road traveller who would like to take a record at extreme points. This lighthouse marks the easternmost point of United States, and I am proud of myself that I reached this point. Unfortunately, it is a bit raining, if the weather becomes clear, I think the ocean will be much more beautiful.

There are some gorgeous trails near the lighthouse! Breathtaking views! My first time here I saw a giant porcupine about a quarter of a mile in to the trail just chilling, it wasn’t threatened by us at all. Just sat there doing its own thing, it was so cute

I admit to not being super hard to please, that said, I was very pleased with this lighthouse. Of the several I visited in Maine. It was definitely one of the nicer ones and you had a beautiful view of the ocean, the islands in Canada, a museum and a cool little gift shop. It was also nice to go to the northeastern most point of the country has been to the southeastern and northwestern.

Beautiful! Nice stating that you’re at the furthest NE corner of the USA. Very friendly staff, gorgeous art work available for purchase. Handicap parking is limited to about 5 vehicles. Very doable walk around for mobility challenges.
Barbara O — Google review
It was a long ride, but ultimately worth it. It was a very interesting little museum that offered quite a bit of history of the lighthouse and that area of Maine in general. Also, being at the eastern most point of the continental United States is something that you can tell your friends about. The staff was extremely friendly and they had a decent little selection of gifts and also a nice art gallery with local art for sale. I recommend taking a hike on the trails and going down to the beach. Overall very good experience.

An excellent visit and a nice check off the list as not many have been here.
Be sure to take some of the hikes to the South and spend the day in very remote Maine.

West Quoddy Head Light, 973 S Lubec Rd, Lubec, ME 04652, USA
Easternmost point on the U.S. mainland, with trails, varied wildlife & a striped, 1808 lighthouse.
If you're going to visit Acadia, you should make the additional 2 hour journey to reach this lesser known beauty. Even for a rainy, cloudy, and windy day I sincerely enjoyed the trip. I didn't even know there was a trail next to the lighthouse and the view was surreal. The waves crashed against the rocks, and on certain points of the trail I was sprayed by ocean water. I think this just added to the cool experience of the trail. Most of the trail is mud, but there are plenty of benches and well kept walkways for safety.

Quoddy Head State Park is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Please pay the park fee even if you're going to just the lighthouse. It's not that expensive the amount of people who walked by without paying the fee was ridiculous. Doesn't matter if you're just going to the lighthouse, pay the fee! No excuses.
The hiking trails here are fantastic! If you're an avid hiker I recommend all of the trails. If you're not that into hiking, the Coast Guard Trail is very easy. Just come for a picnic too! The gift shop was unfortunately closed due to COVID-19 when I was there. Look out for fairy houses too while you're there. I won't tell you where though! Have fun!

Such a beautiful area with breathtaking views
! The lighthouse is magnificent! Very photogenic place for lots of opportunities to take gorgeous pictures.
Well kept grounds, lots of picnic tables and plenty of parking. We visited in August on a nice sunny day and spent about 3 hours down on the beach.

If you can, visit the Eastern most point in the USA. I have visited this location twice, once in summer and now in winter. I have to say this is a beautiful lighthouse. You cannot go into the lighthouse, but there is a visitor center that carries some souvenirs and down the road is another gift shop is West Quoddy Head Gift shop - both open seasonally.
There is outhouses, trails, and picnic tables near the parking area for the general public. You can walk the grounds of the lighthouse, view The Bay of Fundy, and on a clear day possibly see Canada.

Great spot! It was a hot day today, so we figured we'd go to one of the coolest spots around. Weather was gorgeous, and the views were also.
The hikes were great also- the coast trail had a lot of up and down but the view was worth it.
Also liked the peat bog a lot- tons of pitcher plants.

We came in late April. Took one of the walking paths to the right of the building to some stairs so we could explore down below. Continued on the path for a bit but not the end due to time constraints. Beautiful views !

Such a beautiful area with nice hiking trails along the water. West Quoddy is the easternmost part of the continental U.S. What's not to love about a red/white striped lighthouse? There's a nice exhibit in the house to learn more about the history. Worth the drive and a gorgeous place!

We enjoyed our visit here, even though it was foggy at the lighthouse. We took the 1-mile Coast Guard Trail, a very pleasant loop that takes you to beautiful views of Campobello Island.

Had a great day visiting! Furthest east point on continental USA. So far east my phone was swapping ahead an hour. Saw a porcupine chilling on the lawn, as well as heard some rolling stones sound

Quoddy lighthouse was an absolute must on our most recent adventure. My husband's great grandmother, Ruth Allen, was born in this lighthouse and came from a lineage of lighthouse keepers. The staff of the museum and gift shop were extremely welcoming and seemed to great enjoy learning about my husband's lineage and the stories of his family and past visits to the lighthouse. It is a stunning spot and I highly suggest catching sunrise while there. The museum is nice and offers a lot of local history and there's some gorgeous paths to walk in the park. Including an extremely interesting trail that leads you to some marshlands and some stairs that take you down to the rocky beaches. Definitely worth a visit and we will absolutely be back again.

Nice walking path. Not very many people there the day we went. Slightly humid but nice right near the water. I did not see much for restaurants in the area, would recommend brining food if you plan on staying there for day.

The Easternmost Point in the U.S.! Beautiful lighthouse with gorgeous views. I was there on a rainy, cloudy day and it was just beautiful. Small road that takes you to the lighthouse is scenic in itself.....I hadn't planned to visit here, but so glad I did!

A very beautiful coastline. Some very nice hiking trails. The lower trail is rugged and is not the easiest walk but the views are spectacular. The sound of the waves rolling the rocks is amazing. I have visited the park twice now recently in February 2023 and back in June of 2021. It was foggy both times but I felt it added to a wonder of what lies ahead.

Rather old very well maintained functional light house and worth a visit as it is. But we were even treated to a visit from a fearless young porcupine (amongst a dozen or more curious visitors). It went on about its' foraging even after drawing the surrounding crowd!

Beautiful hikes near the light house. Trail can be muddy, something to keep in mind. The trail goes right along the cliffs and has some amazing views. 100% would recommend.
Ganong has a long family history dating back to mid 1800s. This family operated business still runs today in St Stephen, New Brunswick. It has been through a few fires and over 14 expansions over the years. They still offer hand dipped chocolates as well as factory made candies and chocolates. The museum offers tours to learn the history of the cacao bean dating back to Montezuma and how it's gathered and used today around the world. We enjoyed the museum, food tastings, and the chocolate shop after the tour. There are plenty of options to create the perfect souvenir for yourself and/or family back home. Enjoy!!

I haven’t been in a few years but this has to be one of my favourite places to go when I visit NB. Every time I feel like I learn something new and get to try some amazing sweets. It holds a very special place in my heart. As well it was my late grandmother’s favourite place to take people. She loved sweets and loved the joy it brought to others.

We went here on our last day of vacation 3 weeks ago.
We were expecting a history lesson on how this chocolate company has made their name, and we certainly were not disappointed. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and in fact, her father actually worked at the factory.
We saw a lot of great artifacts of the old museum, even though it had burnt down a few times. We learnt about some strange habits of the older founders, like the fact that one of them use to eat 83 LBS of chocolate every day, and he passed away at 83 years old.
We then went and watch the hand dippers in there special room, which was really cool to see, a specialty that doesn't exist in very many places anymore.
Of course, what's the point to go to a chocolate museum, without getting any chocolate. Once the tour was finished, we headed straight to the store that is in the front of the factory.
This cute little door greats you as you walk in. It feels old, which is awesome. It really makes you think how it would have looked 50+ years ago.
Next time I'm in St. Stephen, I will certainly stop by the chocolate store again. Until next time.

If your interested in the history of things you should visit. Your greeted by very friendly staff & begin the tour with a yummy chocolate. They tell very interesting stories about the Ganong family. Throughout the tour samples are handed out. They show videos of the factory and processes. Very fun and well done.

What a fun and informative tour. The full tour takes around an hour and you should check the times in advance or you may have to wait. I waited, but there is plenty to see around the museum, so it didn't matter.
Our tour guide was great and had so many interesting facts about the history of the company and its founders. Well worth the visit.

The Chocolate Museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm. Adult pricing costs $12.
Fun and informative tour. History about chocolate and history of the Ganong family's business. The tour guide Judy knows alot of information and made the tour fun and interesting. She's also very pleasant to talk to.
During the tour, we got to try some chocolates and candies. And at the very end, we got to see artisan chocolates being made by hand dippers and the people you made the filling for the chocolates.
Would recommend doing the tour.
There's also the Ganong Chocolate store upfront, where you can buy their products - chocolates and candies, such as their artisan made and factory made chocolates.
TheArchitect — Google review
A great Little outing in St Stephens even though the museum had more information about where chocolate comes from then actual details of the Ganong company itself. They give tours but honestly should just be self-guided as there’s really not much to look at since you stop to watch videos which are self explanatory. Younger kids got super bored at the end.
Charlaine Robichaud — Google review
The tour guide was kind, helpful, and informed. She was able to answer all our groups questions and she new little inside stories about the Ganong family. I learned some things about the history of chocolate, the Ganong family, and some of the history of New Brunswick. Lovely tour, and we got a 15% discount in the Chocolate shop after the tour. DELICIOUS! there were free samples during and after the tour. Amazing flavor and consistency. So neat to learn and discover.

Great tour. Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. Plenty of free samples too. Down side is the space is tight for large groups. Having smaller groups would be better.
killer views, moderate hike to well maintained Backcountry campsites right on the coast

One of the most beautiful non-mountain hikes I've ever done! The coastal section is amazing on a nice day.
Brian D — Google review
Not sure how old some of these reviews are, but we did the full 10mi loop to Fairy Point and the trails are not well maintained at all. A significant portion of it has brush covering the trail and you have to just walk through it. The trail is long and the part in the woods is dreadful. DO NOT HIKE THE INLAND TRAIL! It is horrifically boring and monotonous. The coastal trail is much better with nice views, and why this trail got as many stars as it did. Also bring bug spray.

Gorgeous hike! We hiked around ten miles and it felt like a breeze! Easy to follow the sign and it is well maintained. The views are breathtaking!

Perhaps the best coastal hike in Maine. Several remote campsites are available along the way if you want to spend the night, or it's a nice one to do as a day trip. Add this one to your bucket list.
Cort Gariepy — Google review
This is an isolated, wilderness trail system with wetlands, moss-carpeted, cloud-fed forests and incredibly scenic cliffs. The coast has its own weather and can be socked in with fog even when the trailhead is bright and sunny. Parking is limited and you must bring your own water. There are no facilities and cell service is limited and may be unavailable. To walk the whole loop is recommended only for experienced hikers.
Aaron Keller — Google review
Amazing trail. Took kids from the parking area to the water. About 1.5 miles. Longer than we thought but manageable. Kids are 3 and 6. 6 year old made it there and back no problem. 3 year old would have made it there without an issue if time was on our side. She came back by shoulder ride which was very manageable on the fully cleared and maintained trails. Trails are excellent with a lot of flat logs covering muddy areas. It's a wonderful meander with all of the amazing smells of Maine trees.

This is a tough reservation to get but well worth the effort. The small operation is organized and efficiently run. We lucked out with great weather and enjoyed every minute of the adventure. Same is true for year 2. The crew is so well versed in the local bird life, and very professional.

I truly believe this is a very unique once in a lifetime adventure. On the boat expect some Maine facts and folklore from Captain Andy, as he is incredibly knowledgeable and hilariously entertaining. Besides puffins, razorbills, guillemots, murres, you may see whales, seals, and porpoises. It’s a good idea to bring a hat, mittens, and jacket any time of year in Maine, especially on a boat 10 miles out in the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy your trip and let Bold Coast Charter Company take care of everything.

We visited Machias Seal Island with Captain Andrew. It was amazing tour and absolute pleasure to witness Puffin colony. It is a small island with a research facility and thousands and thousands of birds. Captain Andrew and staff was very helpful and informative. We had to cut back our time in blinds because of of the rising tide but then we got to see a group of seal just across the main island. I would highly recommend this place to any birder and non birder alike. By far the best place to photograph puffins in lower 48.

Incredible opportunity to see some truly adorable wildlife. So glad this excursion exists! I loved seeing the puffins from the boat but I died and went to heaven being able to see them from 3 feet away. If you are on the fence, just book this, and thank me later.

This was one of the best experiences of my life.
My friend and I booked three consecutive days for the tour and we lucked out with beautiful weather that allowed us to get onto the island all three days. Captain Andy and his crew took us on the boat ride out and they were very friendly and knowledgeable. Once on the island, we got to go to the blinds and because we went three days in a row, we made arrangements to try out 3 of the four blinds.
It was amazing, there were Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, and Common Mures all over the place. They were in front of us, on the sides, behind us, and even dancing on our heads on the top of blind.
While in the waiting area before and after going to the blinds we enjoyed watching Arctic Terns and their young. On the walk to the bathroom, the terns would dive bomb people and it was a great opportunity for pics. Then on the way out, Captain Andy did a loop to the back of the island where we got to see all the beautiful birds on the cliffs as well as Harbor Seals who were out sunning themselves.
If you get a chance to book a tour, I highly recommend it as it was truly an amazing experience. No other Atlantic Puffin tour in Maine comes anywhere close to comparing to it.
We did the long hike and it was totally worth it. Beautiful views!

We absolutely LOVE Blueberry Land. We make the yearly ride from Bangor to Machias for the Blueberry festival. Last year the festival was cancelled because of COVID and this year too so we decided to just get in the car and drive to Blueberry Land and we are so glad we did, Forest took care of us and we bought lots of pies, scones and muffins. It is SOOOOOO worth the trip.

Fun place with lots of blueberry flavored things and Maine themed gifts. Lots of interesting history and a real old school road side attraction. I only wish I had remembered to pack my blueberry syrup in my checked bag and not my camera bag so I would not have had to throw away a very expensive bottle of syrup at security at the airport :(

I'm giving it a one star out of frustration. We're visiting from out of town and had Google searched for the best blueberry pie, and this was one of the returns. Went to their website to confirm they were open, but no times are listed. Checked the Google site which said they opened at 10. Got there at 11:30, and although someone was there, the place was closed. I understand being closed during off season, but ya gotta make it easier to find out

Fun place to stop on the way to Eastern Maine. It was a nice little gift shop / blueberry history museum. All the snacks we bought were great especially the blueberry pie which was awesome. Blueberry soda, chocolates, syrup, candies and anything else blueberry can be bought there. Tons of cool gift items and nice t-shirts selection. The staff was also very nice and helpful.

Wild Blueberry Land was even better than I anticipated. They have AMAZING blueberry goods at extremely reasonable prices. Fresh baked goods for cheap, blueberry-themed everything, and a little (somewhat corny) exhibit on the history of wild blueberries in Maine. We left feeling like we got good value for our money, and a little more knowledgeable about wild Maine blueberries.
The service was immediate, friendly, and fast and we weren't kept waiting for even a second. The blueberry pie we bought was hot, fresh, and the best pie I've ever enjoyed. The blueberry scone was delightful, and the blueberry muffin was the platonic ideal of a blueberry muffin.

Wonderful and fun place to stop and learn or just enjoy all the product. Please grab a slice or entire blueberry pie. We took pieces to go to enjoy later after a long day of driving. They were packaged beautifully for us and we realized she had even included forks and napkins. This was honestly the best blueberry pie we have had! The flavors were not just overwhelming blueberry like most others where we always need vanilla ice cream to balance, but a wonderful hint of spices and perfect amount of sweet. Now wishing we had the whole pie!

Highly recommend!!! This tour was my whole family's favorite part of the trip. We did do the private charter and it was worth every penny!!!! Captain Jamie was an excellent host for our day of adventure. He was extremely knowledgeable and managed to make it around the fog to allow us some amazing sights! The islands we passed were beautiful! We saw harbor seals and a couple grey seals! An osprey nest was also a highlight as we arrived just when they were feeding the young ones in the nest! We got to see a variety of other birds – eagles, peregrine falcons, loons, terns, eiders, and the elusive (that day) puffin! The puffins were on my bucket list to see and we had to ride around a bit but finally found a few through the fog! We also got to experience hauling up lobster traps which was neat experience that we all enjoyed. Then we got the treat of eating the lobster we had just hauled up! We would gladly do the trip again if we go back to Maine! If you are thinking of booking, go for it – you will not be disappointed!

Captain Jamie was an amazing tour guide! My husband and I had such a wonderful time on the Puffin & Seabird tour! Hands down, this was the best boat tour we've been on in Maine. We especially loved that the tour group was very small too. We highly recommend this tour - you won't be disappointed. Thanks again, Captain Jamie!

Amazing tour ride! Jamie was very informative, providing us with his knowledge on the migration of the Terns and Puffins. We saw a lot of seals soaking up the sun on warm rocks, Bald Eagles fishing, and an osprey nest, there was just too much to list here! Highly recommend using this tour guide, he takes small groups of no more than 6 (I believe, don't quote me) so it was very relaxing, and easy to take photos and videos without a bunch of other people pushing for the same view. The Petitt Manann and Naraguagus Lighthouses are so beautiful and Jamie provided some information about when they were in operation/how they operate now. Overall great experience. A+ across the board. Now, go book yourself a tour!!

Captain Jamie Robertson runs a great tour service. They have several regular tours that you can choose from, depending on your interests and schedule. Or, you can charter your own trip. We took the Puffin tour two days ago and it was GREAT. Saw many Puffins up close, as well as other sea birds and mammals, and the Petite Manan Island lighthouse. Also, Jamie was great taking us to see other interesting sights going and coming. Excellent value and a fun time. Check out their website.

My wife and I took the tour to Petit Manan Island to see Puffins. Wow! A great tour on a well built lobster boat (550 hp Cummins Diesel, will get up and go) with Captain Jamie Robertson. Only six people is a "full boat" so the tour is intimate and a chance to get to know the Captain and fellow passengers. We saw lots of Puffins, other sea birds, seals, and wonderful views of the other islands in the Narraguagus Bay. The Captain even pulled a lobster trap to show how it's done. If you're going to take a Puffin tour, take this one. P.S. YES, there is a toilet on board :)
Super views of the Acadia region. Well worth the effort. Moderately strenuous. This region offers it all for the outdoor enthusiast. Mountains, lakes, dramatic vistas and the ocean to play in...bring your camera. Grab some lobster/crab meat at the Winter Harbor docks and have a picnic at the top, or at Schoodic beach at the bottom. Oh and Bar Harbor is usually crowded if you get lonely.

Short but steep hike. Took us an hour to go the 1.5 miles from Schoodic Beach to the peak. Amazing 360 degree views.

Nice hike and wonderful 360 view at top
Plus nice lake and beach you can easily build into the hike
Bill Mott — Google review
Absolutely love this hike! It inclines quick but is still every bit of the 2.5 miles it says. Amazing views at the top on a clear day. Clear view of Acadia National Park. Awesome view of windmills and also foliage during autumn. It has a beautiful beach at the bottom that you should take some time to admire. My favorite hike in a while!
Patrick Drake — Google review
Nice steady moderate hike through the woods. The top has a fire lookout house, and is completely bald, so you can see all the mountains and ponds surrounding you, and you can even catch a glimpse of Acadia National Park.
QuinnFord — Google review
Somewhat challenging hike/climb, although at 1.3 miles from trailhead to summit, it can be easily completed in three or four hours. It took me 1.5 hours up and slightly less down although I certainly did not rush and spent some time looking around.
There are some pretty steep sections that require strength and agility, although no advanced climbing equipment or techniques are required.
Like any mountain climb, the views are the payoff and Schoodic does not disappoint. 360 views into pristine (except for the horrible wind farm in the distance) Northern Maine: Cadillac Mountain and Mt. Desert Island towards the South; fantastic Eastern vistas across to Black Mountain and Downeast costal Maine.
The trail is fairly well marked, although I did find a couple of spots confusing since the trail could have gone either direction in the absence of trail markers.
On the way down you have an option to take the Donnell Pond trail or go back the way you came. Donnell Pond is a great swimming spot and is only about a half mile away from the trail head.
I wouldn't take kids, pets or anyone not physically able to climb steep, mountainous terrain.
Nick Holt — Google review
Steep hike but wonderful views and a lovely spot to go swimming after. I wouldn't personally bring my kids or pets but have seen it many times.

Beautiful views. Great hiking trails. Even a Jeep rock climbing course for the 4x4 folks. Sorry no mud.
The Schoodic Peninsula is a scenic promontory that spans over 2,266 acres of Acadia National Park. It is renowned for its lighthouses, particularly the candy-striped dream in West Quoddy Head. The peninsula offers stunning coastal views and boasts quieter hiking trails such as Alder, Schoodic Head and Anvil which showcase prehistoric rock formations. The air is filled with the delightful fragrance of Northwoods mixed with salty sea air.
This was our favorite part of Acadia National Park. The pictures are from the East Trail, our favorite. Parking is tough, because there is room for only 4 cars across from the trailhead and it's a one-way road so you can't backtrack if those spots are full. We went in mid-October when the crowds were gone and most businesses had closed for the season.
Be sure to visit the Schoodic Institute. It's a beautiful building and has an interesting history.

For me, this is the most magical part of Acadia. This is based on visiting at seven in the morning on a Saturday, noting that there were at most a half dozen cars that I saw in about a two hour period. Lots of varied terrain and solitude for contemplating life's meanings 🐦⬛
Dionne Joffray — Google review
Don’t miss this place if you are in Acadia . This is outside Acadia . A place worth visiting for the beautiful scenic views .
Mohita Chaudhuri — Google review
Much better than the loop Road in Acadia. It was not crowded and there were many spots to pull over and take pictures of the water and rocks. Visit Winter Harbor on the way and see the fog that hangs around town. If you are from the northwest, you will think that it looks like a snowstorm coming in. I thought that was why it was named Winter Harbor. However, I was told that it was because the Harbor is deep and doesn't freeze in the Winter months. A nice break from the crowded craziness near Acadia/Bar Harbor.
Kimmy K — Google review
Was a pretty place, definitely worth seeing. Unfortunately, my visit was during a thick fog and missed a lot of its coastal charm.
Zachary Cain — Google review
Great hiking trails and less busy/crowded compared to the main Acadia NP area. Definitely recommend checking out the sights here!
Steven Beisswenger — Google review
Beautiful place for a driving tour with pull outs to stop and take in the view. A few short hiking options. Uncrowded and quiet. Recommended in the late afternoon to sunset.
Erica Cousins — Google review
Schoodic Peninsula, specifically Schoodic Point is spectacular. Pictures and videos can not capture the stunning and unique beauty of this place. The rock formations there are natures masterpieces. This is the most beautiful and amazing landscape that I saw in all of Maine.
Sharon Doyle — Google review
Just unbelievably beautiful, much quieter than the main part of Acadia. Enjoyed the hikes on Alder, Schoodic Head, and Anvil trails, with incredible views, huge rock formations and a prehistoric feel in many sections. Northwoods fragrance mixed with the salty air from the sea.
Bryan Laszlo — Google review
It is beautiful with spectacular sunset views at either Frazier point or Schoodic point
Bike trails and places to go kayaking makes it one of my favorite campgrounds on the east coast

The Shore Path is a lovely route to walk along the coastline that leads into Bar Harbor. The trail commences on the street running from Havana eatery and culminates at the town's center. There are numerous stunning residences along the way, and several areas to perch on rocks or benches. In addition, visitors can see Balance Rock, a well-known landmark, as well as a park en route. The path boasts picturesque scenery and provides an opportunity for tranquil exploration.
A nice out and back walk. We were there at low tide. It was great to walk along the path after eating.

Nice walk at sunset. People sitting on the rocks.

A wonderful stroll on the Bar Harbor shore. There are benches closer to the park and few to none towards the end. It's a flat and at least 5' wide in most parts. There are plenty of places to climb down to the shoreline.
Doris E — Google review
Beautiful path along the beach in Bar Harbor. One of the prettiest places we’ve ever visited!
Beth Roach — Google review
Beautiful 1 mile path walk along the shore. You can hop down and play or sit on the rocks by the coast or just sit on the benches.
Victoria Goodwin — Google review
Very nice place to walk along the shore leading into bar harbor. It starts on the road that leads from Havana restaurant. And you can walk all the way into town. There are a number of gorgeous houses along the way and places to sit on the rocks or on benches. There is also the famous balance rock and a park.

Very cute, anyone could walk the trail. If you keep going at the end it wraps back around to the main street!
The Hulls Cove Visitor Center is the perfect place to start your Acadia National Park adventure. The center has a huge scale model of the park, informative rangers, and short introductory videos that will give you an in-depth overview of everything you see and do.
We walked up a lot of stairs to reach the visitors center to get a ticket. After we were pulling out of the parking lot we saw there was an upper level parking lot available...lol. Acadia park was beautiful, crowded but we could find a pull over now and then and the vista's were beautiful.

We were not exactly the early birds, arriving at 11 am on Thursday (after 2 hours drive from Camden)
Found a parking spot after a couple of circles around.
Bought a private car pass for $30.
You are supposed to display this pass while your car is parked.
Then we started driving on the “Park loop”
Nowhere to park along whatsoever. Not at the lake, not at the stables, nowhere.
We basically just drove around the island, seeing nothing.
The we got back to the parking lot, and had a short hike to the Witch Lake (to get to the hike/bike path, walk backwards along the bust stops)
If not for the hike, I would give 1*
Basically wasted the whole day.

The Acadia National Park is such a beautiful place. There is so much to do and so little time to do it. There is hiking, going to the beach, sightseeing, and so much more. I recommend going early because the parking lots fill up pretty quickly. I love the bus shuttle. It brings you all over the place! Be careful of the schedule and route. We got on the wrong one, and it drove us the opposite way. Thankfully, the bus driver was nice enough to bring us to our destination. She went way beyond her route, and we were so grateful. At the information center, you pay the fees, get the maps, and if you need extra information, there are rangers to help you. There is even a jr Rangers booklet for the children. Acadia National Park , I highly recommend it!

Staff was great and answered all my questions. There are 52 steps to get to the visitors center, so if you have a handicap placard or plate, use the back road to get up there. (There is a sign indicating the direction.) Cute little souvenir shop too.
Beth C — Google review
Great visitor center for a great national park. The rangers are incredibly helpful about Acadia’s trails and other activities. You can find countless souvenirs and maps here. It is also a convenient hub for the free bus services throughout the island.
Beware: you’ll have to climb over 50 steps to get to the center!
Aditya Narayanan — Google review
Beautiful visitor center on a hill surrounded by trees! A short hike to include 52 steps/stairs and you are the there. The folks there were all a delight.
Bernard Auger — Google review
Pretty nice place with lots of easily understood info and very helpful Rangers to answer questions. This place does get very busy so highly recommend coming early. Good place to stop for info on hiking as the roads and trailhead locations can be hard to find.
Rick Adkins — Google review
Great place to access the carriage road trails for free (i.e., without paying to get into the park) but also the place to get your park pass. Good free shuttle access to the rest of the park and Bar Harbor. In fact I would say it could often be a better alternative to park here rather than Bar Harbor, particularly if you are doing both Acadia NP and Bar Harbor.
Knud Hermansen — Google review
Super, super busy with a tiny gift shop. If you don't need to go I'm for anything in particular, don't! It's 54 steps that you don't need unless you need the restroom or have questions. The staff are super helpful as are the people down by the Island Explorers routes. They also have a kiosk to get passes rather than going up to the actual center. I recommend doing this as you can then go put it back in your car.
Samantha Ross — Google review
The visitor center I thought was OK, but in need of a bit of tlc. The bathroom facilities at the visitor center is not sufficient for all the visitors.
The park itself is really amazing and one could spend hours and hours there, walking cycling, driving around.
Anton Richter — Google review
The visitor center is where you start your Acadia adventure. Buy your ticket and get a park pass to put in your windsheld. Cost between 20 and 30.00 unless you have a national park pass. Then go on the loop or walk the carrage trail that starts at the visitor center. Be sure to stop and see all the out of this world sites. It was cold and rainy when I was there but still stopped to look around. Make sure to do a junior ranger program. They are free for kids of all ages and you learn a lot.
Moving on with Old man river — Google review
Very busy. Parking is tight-even with scores of spaces. We typically bike from here past Eagle Lake and Jordan Pond to the Jordan Pond house for lunch (easy 7-8 mile ride).
Myles Falvella — Google review
Get there early or you might have trouble finding a place to park. You can catch the bus there that takes you around the island. There is a few stairs to climb to get to the visitor center to get a park pass and to the gift shop. Everything moved pretty smoothly at both places. Even though alot of the park is dog friendly they are not allowed in the visitor center.
Lara Schrimpshire — Google review
The park rangers were very friendly and provided helpful recommendations when we asked about what trails to hike! There is a nice carriage trail that starts in this parking lot with a 5.2 mile loop for biking or walking.

This visitor center in Acadia is really beautiful. The maps and junior Ranger books are free. It information is nicely displayed along the visitor center. We enjoyed the place a lot.
Cadillac Mountain is a 1,530-foot peak that offers a well-marked trail with informative plaques and expansive vistas at its summit. It stands as the highest point within a 35-mile radius of the North American Atlantic coastline and was initially known as Green Mountain before being renamed in honor of French explorer Antoine de La Mothe Cadillac in 1918. This mountain provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination to witness sunrise.
Well worth the early rise and the ride up to see the sunrise.
We beat the crowd and the need to make parking reservation by going in early May.
Beautiful few minutes that you would not want to trade for extra snooze time or coffee in the morning.
S Lee — Google review
Nice drive up to one of the best views in the park. Getting sunrise tickets is extremely difficult. Sunset tickets are easier to grab. Really hard to hike to the top but it’s some great hiking on the way up! Definitely worth doing!
Nathan Bantle — Google review
We missed the sunrise but that didn’t matter much! The first sunrise on eastern side of the U.S. from here is only a few months out of the year. The views from here are incredible! It’s breathtaking! You have to climb a bit on rocks to really get the full impact, be adventurous. There are walkways too for those afraid of heights. It’s best to have sneakers with some great grip, bring sunglasses and pack up the sunblock. The parking is kinda tight. There’s also restrooms and a store for drinks and goodies. Enjoy it!
Frank B — Google review
This was the best hike during my 10 days in Acadia. I recommend submitting at golden hour and watching the sunset from such a great vantage point.
I look forward to heading here again in future trips.
Definitely recommend.
christopher paprocki — Google review
It’s truly a beautiful view from here! We visited off season so didn’t need reservations, but during the season (usually end of May through October) you need a separate permit to drive up to the summit.
Seeing the sunrise from the top of Cadillac mountain is a beautiful (albeit cold) experience. In my opinion it was totally worth getting up at 4am for. If you end up doing that, bring a blanket and then head over into town for some great Maine breakfast.
Iliana Radneva — Google review
The highest peak on the eastern seaboard of the United States was beautiful. I am more and more afraid of heights as I get older and this was a very doable experience. We drove to the top which required a $6 reservation in advance. We were able to book it the day before once we knew the weather was going to be good. The top of the mountain is relatively flat which allowed me to walk on most of the walkways and enjoy the views. There is a gift shop at the top of the mountain that has a special stamp for your National Park Passport but make sure they are open before you head up to the top so you are not disappointed if you miss it.
Andrew Kassouf — Google review
We got up early to view the sunrise. Very cold and windy but worth it. We went during the off season and had not problems and didn’t have to make a reservation. During the season you need to make a reservation. Great view of the area.

Cadillac Mountain: Breathtaking Acadia
Cadillac Mountain, located in Acadia National Park in Maine, is a stunning destination that offers breathtaking views and a memorable outdoor experience. As the tallest peak on the East Coast of the United States, Cadillac Mountain attracts visitors from all over the world. Here's an amazing review of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia:
Visiting Cadillac Mountain was an absolute highlight of my trip to Acadia National Park. The journey to the summit was an adventure in itself, with winding roads and scenic overlooks along the way. Once I reached the top, I was greeted with the most magnificent panoramic views I have ever witnessed.
The sunrise from Cadillac Mountain is legendary, and it's easy to understand why. As the sun slowly rose above the horizon, the entire landscape was bathed in a golden hue, casting a magical glow over the mountains, forests, and lakes below. It was a truly awe-inspiring sight that words fail to capture adequately.
The observation deck at the summit provided ample space for visitors to enjoy the view comfortably. I found myself lost in the beauty of the surrounding islands, the vast Atlantic Ocean, and the charming town of Bar Harbor in the distance. It was a serene and peaceful experience, and I felt like I was on top of the world.
Three things that you should do on this mountain are
1. Watch a Sun Rise
2. Watch a Sun set
3. Stargaze
Viswa Bharath — Google review
The weather was cloudy during our visit and the mountain top was crowded as can be expected for a popular destination. Online reservations are required in advance to enter the road to the summit to reduce overcrowding. Total cost per car is $6. Recommend booking at least 3 days in advance.
ericmtnbiker — Google review
A mountain formed by a volcanic eruption in bar harbor, maine. A great spot to do star gazing, in the late evening you may see a few people with telescopes to explore planets.
You can drive your car up there. It is windy and open are, be careful if you have kids along with you. You will also see people running the trail. Being at such elevation gives you a beautiful view of the areas around from top

Absolutely stunning! And a must do. Get up early and plan accordingly!! We were unable to make the appointment to drive up…all good. Set out alarms for Early and started the hike to the summit at 3am. Gave ourselves 2 hours of hiking in the pitch black! Take flash lights for everyone.
And dress warm as when you reach the summit it will be early and cool and breezy!
Such an amazing experience that I will never forget!
J-Kube — Google review
This is a great location and the 1st place sunlight hits the US in the morning. The mountain isn't all that high and there are numerous hiking trails to the summit and a road/parking area. Anyway the view is just amazing at the top. I will say that with the road it gets extremely busy and you need an Acadia National Park pass to access. Note that during the 'season', which starts May 25th through September you have to go online to reserve a day to drive to the summit to see the sunrise and there is an additional fee. It's very much worth the hassle to make the online reservation and the cost to see the sunrise if you can't or do not like hiking. I've done this twice (hiked once and drove once) so posted pictures of good i.e. clear skies and a rather disappointing cloudy day.
Rick Adkins — Google review
I love to drive up here in any weather. Been here 3 times just this year experiencing different weather. The 1st time i went was to watch the sunset, the second time was summer we went for a sunrise watch and in fall, 😅😅 we had zero visibility due to the incoming storm that day. But a must visit when in Acadia National Park.
Rhea Tulio — Google review
Very beautiful panoramic view. We had reservations and went early in the morning. Very windy and it was cold but the views were lovely.
Jen Smith — Google review
Lovely drive. Once you get to the summit there's ample room to explore. Walk the paths or explore the bedrock - just stay clear of the other areas.
If you go during peak season make sure you have reservations!
Jennifer Nolen — Google review
Definitely worth the effort and time to get up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. The views were absolutely incredible. There are several trails that you can take moderate intensity hikes. When we reached the summit, it was fogged in, but the fog cleared within 30 minutes and the results were fabulous revealing Beautiful views of Bar Harbor and the surrounding area of Acadia National Park. Don’t let bad weather slow you down. Remember reservations are mandatory, you pay six dollars per car regardless of how many people are inside.
Jason Amiama — Google review
A must-visit gem within Acadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain comes highly recommended. To secure your visit, make an advanced reservation through the NPS website, especially if you're planning to witness the sunrise, as these slots fill up quickly. We opted for a sunset view, which was truly spectacular.
Regardless of the season, don't forget to bring a jacket as it can get quite chilly and windy at the summit. Parking is plentiful, and the panoramic views, encompassing Bar Harbor and the surrounding islands, are nothing short of spectacular. Be sure to add this to your itinerary and book your spot in advance for an unforgettable experience.

It is beautiful here, but don't go before May. The bathroom is not on the mountain. We searched for a long time to find a bathroom when we were hiking, but it was a bit difficult to describe. There is a small town about 20 minutes away from the scenic area, but because it's not the tourist season, many stores are not open for business. Many of them will only open for business on May 11th. If you go before this time, you need to prepare some snacks and enough hand sanitizer.

Cadillac Mountain, located in the Acadia National Park and probably one of the highest points of the east coast, is an incredible place to visit. There are many hiking trails to go up to the summit however we decided to drive and we weren't disappointed when we got there. The spectacular views are breathtaking. Wow!!! We had a beautiful sunny but windy day. I presume it's always windy at that height. There are also restrooms and a small gift shop at the top of the mountain. The air up there is so fresh and pure!! We really had a great time and I highly recommend it. Really worth the drive!!
Luce Morin — Google review
You have to pre-purchase the ticket online. It is by vehicle size. The drive is amazing with several stops to view and take pics. The parking at the top is ample, and the views are worth it. You can walk out on the rock ledges for grea pics. The walks are fairly easy. The top is set up for people of all physical abilities. Great place to stay for hours. It's first place to see the sunrise on the east coast.
Bobby — Google review
What a spectacular place, can be reached both by hiking and driving. Drive to the summit is of around 4 miles.
Go for booking a slot for sunrise but if you can’t make it, plan the summit so that you can spend some time till sunset. Sunset on other side of the mountain is as beautiful as sunrise.
Don’t miss if you’re visiting Acadia National Park
Samiran Mondal — Google review
Nice views. It's unfortunate that there is a field of wind turbines in view from the overlook. Parking is limited, so make sure you reserve a spot online.
Ed Conley — Google review
Awesome views, no crowds, & reservations not needed out of peak season. But cold, windy, & still some snow in the ditches at the end of April. We are definitely going to go back to explore more of it in a warmer summer month, probably next year.
Fonzzworthy — Google review
Watching the Cadillac Mountain sunrise is a bucket list activity that does not disappoint! The view from the summit for the sunrise is jaw dropping and is by far the best place to see the sunrise on the East Coast! Make sure to book the Cadillac Mountain sunrise tickets months in advance and when you are up there find a private spot to be the first people to witness the sunset in America!
Andre McMahon — Google review
I've visited 27 National Parks. This one is closest to me. Sunrise at Cadillac Mountain is a bucket list item. It DID NOT disappoint. It'll move you. Passes to see sunrise from this location book out months to even a year out. BUT, from October 15 to December 1, weather permitted, the sunrise is open to ALL. No pass is needed. We took advantage of our close proximity to cash in on this one in a million sunrise. I can't recommend enough if you have the opportunity to get up there and see it. Just dress warmly. I can not stress that enough.

So wonderful my husband decided to take us all out there for some relaxing fun. Take the train ride it is wonderful and scenic way to see a beautiful part of Maine. Family from Texas was out there!
Elizabeth Garza — Google review
This tour was so interesting! The volunteers were very nice and incredibly informative. I learned so much about the history of the area and the railways. The seats were comfortable and there are bathrooms on the train cars. There were some great Fall views, but a lot of the tour involves going through the town, so less leaf viewing than I had hoped, but the information more than made up for it. We also got to see some Osprey nests!
Elizabeth Dunaway — Google review
Fun ride, especially for a family activity. Train staff seemed to enjoy what they are doing. Train is slow and spends about half the time stopping and turning around, so bring a relaxed attitude and some refreshments.
Devon Fernandez — Google review
Got some great fall color change photos. It was a good experience. The volunteers were full of history and information. FYI the train ride includes several stops to reverse the engine and switch tracks, so you aren't moving the whole time.
RVacationer — Google review
Excellent narration and the volunteers conductors and staff were wonderful. Unfortunately, the route itself is not very exciting even if it was part of the historic Bar Harbor express from Philly and NYC. I have been on many of the narrow gauge RR trips in the U.S and this does not compare favorably (and it's not narrow gauge either for that matter). Fortunately it was not a major investment of time or money and though I love supporting railroad restoration efforts, we will not be taking this ride again. A nice thing I that we could take our dog with us and there were 3 other dogs on board.
David Every — Google review
I highly recommend this ride if you're looking for something fun to do around Ellsworth.
The volunteers were amazing and very knowledgeable about the history of the train and railroad.
The cost of tickets was worth the ride and scenery.
I only wish we had gone faster than 20mph.
Christopher Poole — Google review
Unless you have a strong desire to "just ride a train", I would skip this. This basically went nowhere scenic; travelled behind a bunch of houses in Ellsworth (felt like back alley tour) and spent 1/3 of the 1.5 hour tour turning around. 2 stars for the friendly staff. If you do go, take your own drinks and picnic lunch.
Rick Day — Google review
Had a great time I just wish we went a further distance than we did. But it being mainly done by volunteers it was quite amazing
Janet Geiger — Google review
Pros: Volunteer staff was extremely friendly. They made sure everyone was comfortable and had all their questions answered. It was neat to be on an old train. Cons: Not very scenic. Spent more time stopped while they changed the tracks to accommodate our journey. Even when we were moving it was a very slow place. Perhaps I had expectations in my head of scenic views and this ride just was not that.
K H — Google review
3 stars for such a friendly and welcoming staff. However, calling this a "scenic" tour is a stretch. You are stopped for at least the trip and basically take a very slow stroll through Ellsworth. I took a picture of the best part of the trip for you. Enjoy
Brian Ryczek — Google review
Really had fun taking this historic train ride. All the staff and volunteers really make sure you have a pleasant and positive experience. We learned about the railroad and got to experience what riding in an authentic passenger car is like. Great deal on the tickets and wonderful ride for our young son. Definitely recommend this experience.
Edward Parks — Google review
We had a great ride in a former Maine Central Railroad coach on the Downeast Scenic Railroad! All of the volunteer staff was extremely friendly, and it was well worth the $20. Don't go into it expecting spectacular views of mountains or the coast, because that isn't what this is, but if you're there for a relaxing train ride, and to learn about some railroad history, you'll have a great time!
Sam Shirley — Google review
The staff were exceptional !— especially with the children on the train. They made sure that everyone was comfortable, and that no question was left unanswered. The route wasn't especially scenic, except for some woodland and wetlands, but they are hoping to open up an additional 11 miles of track, which would take riders well out of the urban area of Ellsworth. Even without that extended ride, the experience is a good time for all.
Rich Simons — Google review
It's really great to see these restored old trains running. You'll get a history lesson along the ride from volunteers who love old trains. Be sure to ask to see the 470 steam locomotive currently being restored. Really cool stuff.
Mt. Desert Island is a large, beautiful island located off the coast of Maine. It is home to a number of villages as well as part of Acadia National Park. The island is known for its stunning natural beauty, which has drawn millions of visitors each year. Activities that are popular on the island include hiking, biking, and following nature trails.

The boat tour company Island Cruises provides a great experience with informative and entertaining guides. The scenery is amazing with plenty of wildlife to see, making this an unforgettable experience.
This tour is wonderful. The owner is a local celebrity. He knows the island well. I debated if doing another boat tour out of Northeast Harbor would be a waste but I’m glad I did both. They are different enough. The other has a ranger on board who knows a lot about many great things. This one has a local on board that knows many great things also but knows this island even better.

We have been on 2 tours with Island Cruises and both have been amazing. Eli shares so much interesting information and makes sure to give both sides of the boat a good view during the tour. Highly recommend making the trip to Bass Harbor for a tour!

Literally the most incredible experience we had in Maine. The family that runs this place ensures you leave your harbor cruise with a wealth of knowledge. We saw SO MANY bald eagles and seals!! It was incredible. I highly recommend this tour, you will not regret it and it will probably be the highlight of your trip.

Great trip around some of the islands in the Bay of Maine. It was a picture perfect afternoon. We saw eagles, osprey, porpoises, and 2 kinds of seals. We learned so much about lobstering and lobsters as well as the fishing industry, and the history of some of the islands. The captain and his crew (his daughter) make sure that everyone gets a chance to see everything. Great relaxing trip!!

The best tour experience ever! The sights and the animals did not disappoint and Captian Eli and Crew Julia were awesome!! The historical information provided about the area was fascinating and we also learned a lot about the fishing/lobster industry that is so critical to the region. I would go again and will definitely recommend to everyone!
Faith Penney — Google review
Our family enjoyed this tour a lot. We loved that our captain/guide was a local who shared facts and stories from personal experience growing up in the area and on the water. They were very thoughtful and considerate in how they ran the boat making effort to avoid spray from hitting passengers while traveling and in turning the boat in front of points of interest so that people sitting on each side of the boat could see easily. It was the perfect length to accommodate kids and we loved the interactive part of when they pulled a lobster trap up on the boat went through the process of checking the lobsters. Overall we saw seals, lots of birds, lobster, and a really cool fishery. Definitely wear a sweatshirt as it was cold and windy out on the water. Would highly recommend!
Sarah Herbert — Google review
If I could give 6 stars I would. The tour was great. Very relaxing, extremely informative of local history and wildlife, and plenty of photo opportunities. Loved how they would turn the boat to make sure both sides would always get to enjoy the scenery up close. Would highly recommend this tour and would consider booking again for a charter or fishing trip. We booked a tour of the bay.

This was amazing! The boat was comfortable, the guides were knowledgeable and the views can't be beat! What a great cruise, superb narration with area history, summary of the local lobster industry, history of the offshore islands, natural history of the birds and mammals observed. The complete package that included retrieving an actively fishing lobster pot and close up examination of the bounty with. Detailed explainations of the laws and traditions surrounding it all.

My family (2 kids & husband) and I loved the 2-hour nature tour at 11am. The weather was 70 degrees, but we all needed sweatshirts/jackets, so go prepared. There are only port-a-potties for restrooms, so be prepared for that, too.
The tour was awesome! The tour guide and his wife are incredibly knowledgeable. They make sure everyone on the boat gets a good view of everything, so don't worry about not being able to see. Every seat is a good seat!
We saw harbor seals, lots of birds (cormorants and others), and bald eagles. The seals were very cool!
And the tour guide pulled up his lobster traps to show us how lobster traps work. It was all very cool, fun, educational, and worthwhile. Highly recommend!

We did the nature tour and had such a great time. We got to see lots of seals, birds (including several bald eagles) and porpoise. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. He and his daughter (who helped pilot the boat) were also very good at maneuvering the ship around to make sure both sides of the boat got good views

Highlight of our trip. Very informative wildlife tour - we saw multiple bald eagles, sea lions, seals, and numerous birds along our route. They also had some lobster traps laid out so we got to see the process for identifying 'legal' lobsters, crabs, and sealife. It was also cool to go right next to the salmon fish farm and see the salmon jumping out of the water!

We had an awesome afternoon out on the private sailboat charter with Rowan as our very knowledgeable and experienced captain. He taught us a ton about sailing and answered all our questions. The vibe was chill, fun and relaxed. The water was beautiful. We sailed close to the Bass Harbor lighthouse and also saw some porpoises. Definitely recommend this adventure and this company.

Great group of people! They worked with us to get me and my family on the water during a beautiful, sunny day. The captain was very friendly and accommodating! He did a great tour of the surrounding island and we saw lots of wildlife. Great fun for us and the kids! We will definitely be joining Island Cruises on our next trip to Maine!

The Nature tour was awesome. Captain Eli and Robin are knowledgeable and caring caretakers of the Maine Coast and the Lobster Industry. Great history, science, geography, and geology are all provided. Visit a light house, seals, porpoises, birds, salmon farming, and haul in some lobster traps while riding around in a boat - What could be better! This is the best tour like this I have ever taken, even with the fog, which just added to the Downeast mystique.
The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is located on a rugged sea cliff overlooking Bass Harbor in Acadia National Park. The lighthouse is still operational and provides stunning views of the bay. The grounds around the lighthouse are open to visitors, but you are not allowed to visit the lighthouse itself.
Amazing view from the rocks at the end of the trail, but do so at your own risk. If you do try, check the tides first as low tide is the best time. Also, this is a probate residence so be respectful

Stopped to see this lighthouse on the south side of the mountain. It's about a 30 minute drive from Cadillac Mountain. It's a small lighthouse but it's s in a picturesque setting and the drive allows you to see a good part of the island. We enjoyed our time there.

Beautiful sight. Lovely scenery. There is a small parking lot which can fill up fast, especially during tourist season. The lighthouse is ok, but with the rocks and the waters makes for a nice picture. Overall it was a nice, quick stop. It's an iconic and often seen lighthouse in photos of the Maine shoreline.

Pretty little lighthouse .. emphasis on little. Was expecting something a bit grander. That being said, was still very pretty. Best view, in my opinion, is from the trail at the far end of the parking lot. You can climb down some rocks and see the lighthouse from the bottom. Definitely worth a trip.

Nice bit of history learning the this is the only lighthouse accessible by car! You cannot go inside but can view the lighthouse from both sides... Small parking lot but there are bathroom facilities available. Wear those shoes if you want to take pictures from the rocky shoreline on the left side. Be careful. Not interesting for young kids.

Great for a quick 30 minutes to 1 hour stop. We visited two short trails on each side of the harbor. Both sides were just a quick stroll away. The trail to the right will bring you to the base of the lighthouse. However, at the left trail, you'll have to step out to the rocks by the sea, which was somewhat challenging, in order to see the lighthouse. The ranger stationed there was friendly and was giving out nearby Maine attraction guides for free. She said that the lighthouse was not open for the public to get to the top.

A fun little journey took about a half an hour to walk down the trail on both sides of the lighthouse. The wait in line to park was longer than the actual journey itself. We had a beautiful day and enjoyed our time here highly recommend.

Absolutely stunning views from the east-end trail viewing up to the lighthouse. We were standing there with photographers capturing the sunset, which I can highly recommend. Be mindful that parking is very limited and the road leading towards the lighthouse is almost always full of traffic. I recommend parking that the Wonderland Trail Head and walk beside the road from there.

This lighthouse is a great gem of Acadia. An easy walk will get you an amazing view. The secret is to look at the far end of the parking lot and take that trail. It’ll take you down to the rocks in front of the lighthouse. It is truly breathtaking! You have to go

Bass Harbor Lighthouse is an iconic site to see. It is not in Bar Harbor proper but about 30 minutes away. It is worth going.
It is not possible to go into the lighthouse or even to get really lose to it but the view of it is stunning and, again, 'very Maine.'
There is very little parking but since there's not much to see, parking turns over frequently. There are rest rooms.
Be sure to go down the path at the far end of the parking lot since that takes you to the Rock cropping and the iconic views.
Definitely go even if it's raining. We did and it was still great to see.

The view is nice, but I’m not sure it worth all the trouble of waiting for a parking spot. There are very few available and you can’t park on the street as too narrow.
If you manage to get a parking spot after waiting for someone to leave for you to take its place, follow the trail at the end of it and take the stairs toward the sea, to finally take your shot.
It’s not possible to visit the lighthouse. It’s a private property. It’s been converted to automated mechanism in 1974. A large board explain the history of it.

Very nice quiet place to visit. Note that there is no parking on the roadsides leading up to the lighthouse parking area. The parking area has maybe 15 places and 1 handicap accessible parking place. The handicapped parking space is in the first row of spaces closest to the ocean and farthest from the entrance to the parking lot. The way it works is you drive up to the parking lot and if you see an open space in either of the 2 rows of spaces you go for it. If the lots full which you can see from the entrance to the lot or in our case there’s already cars lined up on the entrance road. You wait at the entrance to the lot and if a car leaves your next to go take the open spot. We didn’t really wait that long and actually it’s pretty easy just wait til a car comes out and in you go. While we were waiting on the entrance road there was a 10 point buck grazing 15 ft from our car at the edge of the woods. The deer didn’t seem least bit scared to graze and watch us, however it’s not hunting season and you couldn’t hunt in this area anyway so he knows he’s safe. If you walk to the farthest part of the lot away from the road, there are restrooms available and a trail down to the water to the right of restrooms. The trail is good and the stairs going down to the ocean are very well built and sturdy, solid as a rock. When you get to the bottom of the stairs there are stone natural steps further down to the ocean. Beyond the stairs the steps vary in height and ease of making your way down or up. If your not to steady on your feet there are observation decks part way down the stairs with views of the water and the lighthouse. It’s a very scenic and peaceful place at the lighthouse.

We got to the Lighthouse shortly after sunrise, only one other couple was there. It can get very crowded especially around sunset time, and there is limited parking.
As a young / fit couple we had no problems going over the rocks or down the stairs, however one does need to use caution though! Can become very slippery and some of the rocks are very uneven to walk on.
Besides that, the view of the Lighthouse is beautiful! :) Definitely worth making a stop to see it.
Emilee Hunter — Google review
Beautiful, iconic lighthouse seen on all the postcards and shirts and merchandise from Acadia. However, the best iconic view is down several stairs, over some slick risky rocks down almost to the water to look up and get the best view. You can walk down to it from the parking lot more easily, but it's not as impressive view even if you can get right up to it. The parking lot is super small. There was a line of cars backed down the road, just waiting for cars to leave. Several people just got out of their cars and left a driver while they went down to take a look, take photos, then walk back to the car still stuck in the line of traffic and to leave and not wait for a parking spot. I highly recommend checking this light out, especially if you can get down to the better view safely.

This photogenic spot is very popular with photographers. A gorgeous view of a lighthouse perched along the rocky coastline. this is Maine, which you see everywhere, this iconic lighthouse.
After parking your car, you walk down a short path to get up close to the lighthouse and panoramic ocean views. - that is where the lighthouse is- and that's it.. it stops there and I was wondering where people take those iconic photos?
so I went back into the parking - and there is a small walkway going in the left direction (near the restroom) that takes you down (mind it, it's rocky)... photographers were already there with their setup where normal people won't go. it's a bit dangerous.
From Bar Harbor, it takes over 30 minutes to drive here. Along the way, you will pass Echo Lake
Parking: This is another trendy place to visit in Acadia and the parking lot is tiny.

Get Ready to Scramble.
The trail down to the rocks can definitely be slick after rain and is not ADA accessible. Wear good walking shoes and take your time
The trail to the right is slightly more accessible but is steep.
Fee for Park.
Parking is limited but we were able to park at about 6 pm on a Friday.

This seems to be the Iconic place everyone wants to visit. I arrived with my wife late evening right before sunset when almost everyone was ready to leave. Parking will prove to be difficult during the day, as there is only a small parking lot of 30 spaces or so with 1 road to access in or out. Expect to park further away if coming during the day. I feel the best time to visit this iconic landmark is before sunrise, and before sunset. Don't forget to take bug spray or the mosquito's will feast upon your soul.
The Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor is a contemporary establishment that features warm rooms and suites along with a casino, racetrack, and three dining options. It is recommended to use the booking website HE. as they typically offer cheaper rates compared to others. This hotel is highly regarded in the area and has been a favorite for years due to its well-appointed, spacious rooms featuring comfortable king-sized beds.
Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ when booking any hotel. They compare countless booking websites and typically will have rates much cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This was a surprisingly great place to stay on business! I was extremely apprehensive due to it being a casino but was impressed with the tastefully appointed rooms. I was in an accessible so it was fairly large (I did not book this though). The room was very clean, I really can’t say anything there. The staff at the desk were friendly and I went to eat at their restaurant for dinner which is on the non-21 side/off the gaming floor. The food was great and the service from Drake was outstanding considering how stretched thin they were with a fairly large crowd of people likely living beyond their means dumping their social security at the casino. The location is right downtown within walking distance to other restaurants if you do not feel like people watching the high roller losers combined with feeling like you’re in a nursing home. The only negatives I have are my room was literally equally close to both the ice machine and elevator; combined with high roller wannabes the noise from the hallway was rough, I just used my phone for white noise no biggie this is what I get for staying at a casino. The other issue was that the air conditioner was not working. It was hot in the room so I called the front desk, they gave me some instruction and to call back if it didn’t work. It didn’t so they said they’d call maintenance to come take a look, which they never did however it naturally cooled down so no biggie anyways. I’ll stay there again!

Me and my friends lived here for two nights during our trip to Acadia National Park. It's about 1 hr drive to the park. Large parking lot and free parking if you live or play here. You won't be panic with finding a parking lot. Affordable price to live here. But just be aware that the Casino close at midnight.

Friendly staff, very helpful. Casino is clean and not as crowded as many casinos. Bartender was nice. Plenty of parking. Rooms seemed to have changed since the pandemic (Covid 19), just seems a little cheaper than previously. In room safe and fridge. No microwave in the room. No vending machines for midnight snacks. Toilet paper at Bagel Central is better.

It was so much fun! It was just the right size. I could wander around and play whatever I wanted and still find the person I came with easily when I wanted. The card system was great! It accumulated points that I used for a meal. AND not only did I have loads of fun playing, I came out with more money than I brought. I am from out of state visiting family. I will definitely visit this casino next time I visit Maine.

Always a fun experience, set your limit and you will have the time of your life. I go a few times a year and the place is full of entertainment with slots and card games. I highly recommend trying out Hollywood Casino. If you choose to stay the hotel is really nice. The restaurant on the first floor is also amazing. Every time I've been win or lose I have had such a good experience. So if you're in Bangor and looking for something entertaining to do and the perk of it all is you just might win! So good luck to you and enjoy your gaming experience if you choose Hollywood casino. As a local guide I try to write about positive experiences and I don't typically write about places unless I have had that.

I was actually pretty surprised how big it was in here, looks can be deceiving sometimes! There was plenty of parking, the casino itself wasn’t packed (although I was there around noon on a Wednesday) and staff was attentive and helpful. They had a good (not great) variety of slots, and a small table game area as well. I only stayed long enough to lose my money haha but would definitely be willing to go again and see what else they have to offer. It didn’t seem much smaller than Oxford, actually very similar in design and layout but I was impressed for a casino in a small town in Maine.

I’m a 32 year old grown married man with a kid and I was asked to show my ID 5 different occasions, some by the same casino employee. There’s an extremely poor liquor selection and you cannot order shots, most cannot even be served over the rocks. There’s a nice amount of slots to choose from but the popular ones are always occupied by the same people, for hours on end, notably the dragon cash machines towards the “high limit” area. Not many “high limit” machines to choose from while on that topic. If you aren’t playing a higher limit machine by the way, you’re likely to be passed by the cocktail waitresses. I was sitting at one machine for over an hour and wasn’t asked one time. The hotel amenities are poor, there’s nothing drawing you in the place other than the hallway which is very elegant & decorative. But when you reach the floor you’re met by that dreaded employee asking you for ID. I was told if you look under the age of 30 you need to show it. There’s only one place to choose from for food, which is priced well, but the food is very standard. This was by far the worst experience at any casino I’ve been to. I will NOT be returning nor will I ever recommend a friend or family member to endure the poor experience of this “casino”. Zero stars if I could.

Came in to town for a concert. The room was good, and the restaurants were good. But the people in the Casino were a little over Zealous. I wanted to get to my room from the main road out from and was given a hard time about it. There should be an entrance on that side that has room access if you don't want people going thru that was. Otherwise, just relax and take care of your customers who are paying good money and don't want to be harassed over a hot dog.

Hotel was nice but starting to show it's age. Only microwave in lobby area. Lots of homeless around outside hotel. Walking around is at your own risk. Casino was very small compared to other Hollywood casinos.
Only place I have been that the chairs are bolted to the floor. One size fits all, it was very uncomfortable to play. Good luck getting anything to drink when on game floor. Very few servers walking around.
Lady pit boss was very rude.

Cozy, laid back atmosphere. Quiet rooms. The atmosphere in the casino is laid back, with plenty of options to choose from. Slots start off as low as 1-5 cents a pull. No start off fees or minimum play. It's definitely worth the price for the night or just to stop by and play some slots before heading to your destination.

The loyalty system is REALLY messed up.
Nobody really knew what they were doing.
We had some points but we couldn't use them
They kept peddling this phone app, which is kinda pointless because its for PLAY money. Fake money. Why advertise that in a casino where you can gamble REAL money? Its bizarre. What is weirder, is that you can use your point play and use it to get FAKE coins in the app. WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT!?
I tried to speak with a manager, I was given a phone number. I called it, no reply.
A bit of a disaster to be honest.

Hotel is empty, not a ton going on for night. Asked for an upgrade with the hotel being empty. Told they are "fully booked", with a empty parking garage and no tour buss or large scale event on a Monday night? Are you sure? And the kitchen is closed Monday and Tuesday offering a $5.00 credit. Is that what dinner value is worth when it is open? And great view of the roof!

Room was billed as "city view" but overlooked the roof and side of the parking garage. Other than that minor, minor issue the room was exceptionally clean. I was extremely disappointed with my experience at the Hollywood Casino. The room was far from clean, as evident by the presence of someone else's sock left behind. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT pay the extra money for the suite with the hot tub in the room , the tub is weak and old and doesn't really have any pressure , the bed is HORRIBLE!! overall it's a decent room but not worth $425 ! could've gotten a room at residence inn for half the price! water pressure in the shower fluctuates temperature and pressure. i will give them credit on cleanliness, but the parking is too tight in the garage as well overall just not very impressed and likely will never stay at this hotel again and if i do it'll be the less expensive room for sure

After a nice day in Bangor our group decided to stop in to play some slots and black jack.and there was an issue with my ID. Never had an issue before and always used the same ID. After being told very loudly they need to call security to look at it , was refused by the security saying they couldn’t accept it. Security was extremely pompous and rude . The picture of little man syndrome. Not sure how this guy got his job but his people skills are seriously lacking. Our whole group left. I’ve always enjoyed visiting Hollywood slots but I will not be back. I will be going to Oxford casino in the future. I feel really bad for anyone that has to deal with security Bobby B at Hollywood slots. He’s not a good representation for a business that deals with the public.

The lowest consistent table limits for any legitimate casino Ive been to. Friendly pit bosses and dealers, good table drink service. Small but they have a good variety of table games and your typical slots. I would say more table game variety then some larger venues.

We stayed for a couple nights here during the winter storm. Most of the town (Bangor) was out of power and stores are closed.
The check in & check out process was fast and the staff was professional. We got $5 store credit per day during our stay.
Spacious room, working fridge, and strong water pressure! Very clean overall.
However the AC was not cold, feels like the heater always on. The pillow was also a bit small.
The casino was okay. Nothing special, the atmosphere was lacking and a bit gloomy.
The waitress was nice and accommodating.
The restaurant inside the casino was hectic and service was a bit slow because they were understaffed. Food was ok and fairly priced.

In any case, fun to see. .now want to read more about his tall tales.

We had to check out bih Paul on our first time ever to Bangor! I'm comparing this ole guy from my Minnesotan upbringing - home to many a handsome PB statue - and as a long-time listener of the tales. This is a quirky statue that you would think you could only find in Maine, however, Paul Bunyan is in other cities as well. The Bangor version is quite high and seemingly randomly located next to a medical building. Why? I am not sure. But it can be fun to try to find him while on Main Street.

Myself and a group of my coworkers arrived in Bangor, tired and late at night. The next morning we woke up to find ourselves in the heart of Stephen King's country. It was rainy and grey the next day, but that didn't stop any of us from wandering around. The first thing we saw after leaving our casino lodgings was the Paul Bunyan statue. Naturally, we wandered over for photos. Much later, I would hear about how the same statue attacked characters in Stephen King's novel It....I can see it now.

The Cole Land Transportation Museum is a charming establishment displaying an impressive collection of vintage cars, trucks, farm equipment, and military vehicles. For a very reasonable price, visitors can witness the world's largest indoor collection of snowplows as well as other forms of transportation such as bicycles, tractors, trains, semis, busses, campers and motorcycles.
I was much more impressed than I thought I'd be. The price is very reasonable for all you get to see. The museum claims to have the world's largest indoor collection of snowplows. Lovely place for kids. I used to go to museums like this as a kids. Looking at the slice of life in different times is always fun. Good if you're on a road trip and need an hour or two to kill check it out.

If you are in Bangor I would recommend stopping in. The cool thing before we even started looking, they give free walking sticks to combat era vets, so both my spouse and I received one. Also, they have clipboards listed easy, medium and hard with pictures on them to have a scavenger hunt for items around the whole museum. Our 11 year took a medium one and she found everything, she loved doing it. We also took one and it added to the overall experience. The 2 sections I really enjoyed were the fire department aisles and the military section of a few vehicles and artifacts dating from the Civil War to Desert Storm. Worth the stop!
Fort Knox State Park is a historic site that features a 19th-century granite fort and a modern bridge with an impressive 420-ft. observation tower known as the Penobscot Narrows Observatory. This engineering marvel, which opened in 2006, spans over 2,120 feet and stands tall above the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore the intriguing past of Fort Knox using informative signage throughout the park and enjoy scenic views from the top of the observatory.
This fort is EPIC 🤩🇺🇸
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Best views of any Military installation on the East Coast. Fort George Washington is runner up 👌. Massive is size and scope, this fort is simply awe inspiring 😃. A must see if your visiting Maine …MUST SEE. Moving to Maine? call Liberty Bell Moving & Storage for packing and moving services

This state park is amazing and one of the coolest I’ve been too! Not just cool in the sense that it’s interesting but also cool as in cold when your inside the fort which is great on a hot day! This place makes a great summer time activity! When your inside the stone area’s of the fort are like air conditioning with a cool breeze!
When visiting this park give yourself hours of time… there is a ton to see. Not to be missed are the open water batteries outside the fort. As you are walking to the fort there is one on the left and another just past the entrance. They have long descending stair cases that lead to multiple rooms that were used to heat cannonballs sufficiently enough to ignite wooden ships! So cool!
Inside the fort there is a grassy inside area open to the air/sky and then the perimeter or enclosed area of the fort is all walkable , even the roof which is grassy.
As you walk through there are these really cool hallway that ascend with steps . There are windows to your right and on your left there are different rooms you can walk into. Some were quarters for the workers to stay in or rooms that they would gather and eat.
There is a display in one room showcasing how they produced gunpowder in the fort and even a huge bakery! Like i said there is enough to see to spend hours there! Bring your camera/phone , there are really cool photo opportunities and the fort it’s self is amazing to photograph as well!
When your done at the fort head over to the Penobscot Narrows bridge and observatory! It’s the tallest bridge observatory open to the public in the world! A very cool experience! The bridge itself is a beautiful view but once you take the elevator up 420 feet you’ll have 360 degree views of the Penobscot bay area. Just don’t look down when you step of the elevator… yikes.. that’s a tough one for the stomach! It’s a long way down!
They have viewing from all four walls that are entirely windows and there are great displays showing you all you are looking at, like the mountains, towns, rivers and the bay. Very cool and educational!
I definitely recommend a visit and remember it’s a perfect thing to do on a hot day! Enjoy!

Really cool place to explore and such beautiful views. We went for Fright at the Fort. We drove 3.5 hours and unfortunately the haunt was canceled because of the recent shootings in Maine. But we still went and visited the Fort and explored the grounds. Some parts of the Fort is spooky all on its own. Maybe take the trip next year and try again.

Well worth the trip. There are a lot of stairs and no lighting inside but it is an intriguing look into the past. The signage is very informative and the views are great. The gift shop is filled with interesting objects, books, and shirts. They are currently decorated for Halloween which is fun. There is plenty of parking. There is a beautiful park surrounding the fort with plenty of picnic tables.

Fascinating place. We just happened upon it while driving from Bar Harbor to Portland. The bridge is a true sight to see. Beautiful river view from a very high vantage point. We went up into the viewing tower and we’re rewarded with an expansive view of the valley.
We then toured the fort and enjoyed the historical experience. This location was well restored and maintained.

Really cool experience! The observatory is the tallest in the world and an elevator ride up to the top. Awesome view. We stopped for the observatory and decided to also walk around the fort which, if in the area and you have time, you should do. It's a really cool fort and would be an awesome (and potentially disastrous) place to play hide and seek! Anyway, there are plaques of information at all the sites around the fort. You can walk the whole fort in around 1.5 hours with stops at all of the sites. It was cool to envision what it was like moving around the fort in the 1800s. My girls really enjoyed the rooms and space to run around in the center and on top. Really interesting place! Glad we stopped!

Really cool walk through history you can take at your own pace. It was a foggy rainy day so the fort was nice and cool inside, but the tower offered really no view (we were warned of this but decided to go up anyways). Highly recommend stopping for a bit!

Unexpected stop from Acadia to Portland. Spent over an Hour and a half exploring the different chambers of this fort. Great for families to explore. Also went to the top of the bridge which had absolutely gorgeous 360 views of the area. Highly recommend.

Took the Elevator to the observatory.. not as scary as I thought!! Nice views! Walked through the Fort afterwards. Very interesting! There were some Halloween decorations up for the scavenger hunt but we Diane participate.

I went here on a last second decision and it is definitely a highlight of Maine. Beauty meets history in an incredible experience. You would be able to go for just the fort or the observation tower and still have an incredible time! All of the staff I interacted with were so nice and they had so much information to share. We went on a self guided tour and we were very pleased. Would recommend to anyone.

A must visit!!! The observatory view is amazing and given the weather, we were able to see all the way down the river bank. The park is dog friendly, however the observatory does not allow pets. So, if you are traveling in a group, it is possible to take turns while the dog stays down stairs. My favorite portion is the fort itself. There is a path around the fort, plus 2 stairway entrances on the exterior (A and B) the view is incredible and with easily accessible chairs worth taking a rest at!

It's a great experience for all ages. Lots of steps, not wheelchair friendly. Most places back then weren't. Observatory has a breath taking 360° view.

Must-see if you're in the area.
Pay for the observatory and access to the fort is free. Very reasonable prices.
We went up in the observatory first. The guides were very informative and welcoming. View was great. Wheelchair accessible
The fort was amazing! You can wander at will and explore the tunnels.. You'll need a flashlight! We had a blast.
Restrooms and gift shop available. Plenty of parking.

We just visited here with our daughter for her first visit, we’ve been multiple times but it’s always neat seeing the fort, I was very shocked to see they offer a homeschooling discount it really makes for an awesome school field trip, the facilities are in great shape and always seem really clean (most parks this isn’t the case) they also are fully stocked and handicapped accessible! The gift shop is great too! We always make sure to stop in and purchase a few trinkets!

Great stop on our drive from Bar Harbor to Portland. The fort is great to walk around. The observatory is a must! The views were stunning! It was an amazing way to see the fall leaves.

This park has a very inexpensive entry fee that covers both attractions. The bridge is beautiful and the views are spectacular from the observation tower.
The fort is quite interesting in how it was built and its history. There are lots of places to explore inside and outside the fort making it a great place to spend a day.

We went all the way to the top of the observatory. It's taller than the Statue of Liberty! The employees were knowledgeable and kind. At Fort Knox we were able to explore the whole thing! We loved seeing the ambulance and cannons inside.

I drove by this monument for decades, and I finally decided to visit. I'm so glad I did. The view from the 40-story bridge tower is fascinating. It's a 365 degree panorama.
The fort evokes so many different feelings and emotions. Walking through the dark passages is eerie and standing next to the large canons is awesome! It's easy to lose track of your time soaking in the atmosphere!

Narrows Observatory, nestled amidst the picturesque beauty of Maine, offers and unparalleled experience for nature enthusiasts. Our visit to this gem left us in awe of the beauty of Maine. The bridge is an architectural marvel and we enjoyed learning about the history from the friendly staff who truly care about it. The panromantic views were spectacular especially due to the changing of leaves and you can see for miles on a clear day. The ticket price for entry for 4 people was $36 - a small investment for the priceless memory created. A must see!
The tallest public bridge observatory in the world, with panoramic views of the river & Fort Knox.
This was such a cool experience!! 40 stories up and being able to see the river flowing and all the mountains for miles!!

This architectural wonder is a must-see for anyone traveling through the midcoast region. Just a stone’s throw from Bangor, the observatory at the top of the tower of the bridge offers 360° views of the surrounding towns and out into Penobscot Bay. The interpretive signage is professional (and accurate) and the cost to go up is minimal (especially if you’re a veteran: $2.50). The bridge is adjacent to Fort Knox, allowing a combo ticket to be purchased for both venues, if desired. Take some time to have an ice cream from the gift shop and look out at the placid river. Great summertime stop!

Don't go if it is foggy. But on a day with good visibility you can see Blue Hill and the Penobscot Bay. A good way to get a new perspective.

Amazing views from the observatory. Quick little ride up to the top. The compass on the floor is very nicely done.

You will cross this bridge as we did taking route 3 from Augusta area enroute to Bar Harbor. We actually crossed this bridge for first time about 3 yrs ago. We also went up inside the tower to the observation floor. The bridge is an amazing site and very high off the river below. The construction amazed me as I was in the construction and design field before retirement. The towers are all native granite and the tallest in world that you can actually ride to the top in an elevator. I have gone up in the elevator to the observation deck and the elevator is very smooth riding and quite fast actually to that level. The views from the top are panoramic and amazing. The suspension cables are enormous in size to support this bridge. As you enter the tower, you will see a compass etched in the granite slabs outside the entrance. The craftsmanship of the etchings and the entire bridge structure are amazing! I feel this is a must see to drive across and go up the tower. There is a nominal charge to ride the elevator up the tower. When we went we paid to get into Fort Knox and the bridge tower at the gate to get in.

A neat impromptu stop on our trip up to Acadia. The bridge itself is quit a sight, and you can stop to take a trip to the top of one of the towers. The view includes several nearby towns and beautiful landscape. We did wait in line for some time, as they were only letting one party up at a time, but it was worth it. Also worth walking around Fort Knox next door to experience the history.

if you are in the area you should stop and go up the observatory great views you need a nice sunny day. Cost to go up is reasonable

I have been waiting to go up this tower for years and it was neat. The views are outstanding. We were there at peak fall colors and it is gorgeous. I used to live in Bucksport and watched the bridge be built so it was cool to see the town from that perspective. I wish there was a little more history of the old bridge or more information on the engineering of this bridge. But you can't beat the view and that is exactly what your getting. Try to get there on a sunny clear day for the best view .

This bridge connects Verona island to Prospect. This is the only bridge observatory in the US. It has a great view from the bridge. I did not get a chance to make it to the observatory deck. I should try doing it the next time I’m there. This bridge is the longest bridge in Maine. The view from the bridge is amazing. The design of the bridge is great and it’s well maintained.

This is one of the coolest attractions in the midcoast area. Pro tip: go around 430pm and have the place basically to yourself. Definitely pays to ensure you visit when the weather is clear so that you can see far and wide from the observatory.

We drove by this beautiful cable stay bridge on the way to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park.
The design was modeled after the Washington Monument, which was built with a granite tablet from this area inscribed with Welsh.
It was constructed in 3.5 years starting in 2006, replacing the Old Waldo-Hancock Bridge which in 2003 was found with cables too damaged to repair. The old pier foundations can still be seen in the river.
Photo taken from viewpoint south of the bridge.

A wonderful place to visit. Between the bridge and the fort it was very informative. And the view is beautiful.

Really amazing place to visit! You have to purchase admission to the fort and the bridge at the gate when you drive in. They have an elevator all the way up to the top. If you have trouble with heights I do not recommend going up. The views are amazing and they have plaques with information about the area.
Kayak rentals, boat tours & a scenic beach campground are a few of this adventure outfit's draws.
Fantastic place to rent kayaks for single or multi-day trips in the beautiful Stonington Archipelago! We rented kayaks for a 3 day/2 night camping trip and got great advice from the owner which islands to check out and which ones to avoid
We ended up on Wheat Island for both nights and even saw a Porpoise on the way! (kind of like a dolphin but it's technically a whale :) Had a wonderful time!
Cut short your time in crowded Acadia National Park and come here instead to see the real thing with hardly anyone on the water or on the islands!

We booked two excursions with Old Quarry and both were excellent. We did the Harbor Tour, which we had adapted so that we could stay on Green Island for a couple of hours and get picked up later in the afternoon. The swimming hole there was a lot of fun - but bring bug repellent!! It was easy to schedule and worked out well. We also did a sailing lesson for 6. In both cases our guides/instructors were just great (Hutch and Sherry). Very friendly and knowledgable and made everyone happy and comfortable. My brother and his son also rented kayaks from Old Quarry to use on their own and they were very happy with the experience.

Took a half day guided kayak trip. Pricing in line with other outfitters. Equipment in great shape and our guide Cody was helpful in setting the boats up for everyone; he was knowledgeable about the wildlife, islands, local industry etc. Fun and interesting

SNAPSHOT = details below - fantastic place! Explore Penobscot Bay your way: kayak, canoe or paddleboard.
On your own, guided tour or get some lessons first. My daughter has had both kayak and paddleboard lessons with at least 3 of the instructors here and loved them.
Eco tours are a regular draw along with treks for overnight camping. Outfitters have everything you could need. Food is available.

Bill and his dog Johnny were excellent hosts, even taking the time to help me back in to a difficult spot. The views here are amazing and the trails are clear and filled with history. The showers are warm and the facilities are clean and well maintained. Bill treats the campsite like an extension of his yard and keeps the landscape impeccable. Iwould love to return someday.

A good time was had by all! My wife & I went on a 1/2 day paddle this past Sunday. Our guide, Norris, was top notch. Knowledgeable, friendly, well prepared. Equipment was well maintained, facility is very well organized. We are mid level kayaker's, but not too experienced in sea kayaking. Norris was very easy to learn from. HIGHLY recommended!

Been going for years. Bill is as friendly as always. Bill loves paddlers, either with their own boats or needing to rent one. Perfect for kayaking the most scenic paddling on the east coast. Bill has a fresh water pond for rolling or self-rescue practice. You can paddle out and stay on an island for an overnight and then return to the camp ground for a hot shower and go into town for a nice meal. Always clean and quiet.
I highly recommend this out of the way jewel of the Maine coast.

We rented kayaks and did a half-day tour with our four kids. Bill was super friendly and accommodating with our younger ones. Rebecca (at the desk) and our guide, Kristie, were fantastic-- fostering independence with the kids, encouraging them when they were tired, setting up kayak games to help with their skills and geocaching on the island, educating us re edible plants and hidden wildlife. Fantastic experience... would highly recommend Old Quarry OA.
A 2.5 mile walk through the woods to Barred Island. The views are unreal and the path is fairly easy but there are a lot of roots so wear decent shoes. Pay attention to low tide times so you are able to walk across and enjoy.

Excellent trail with a unique landscape at the start (a lot of moss along the ground). The trail isn't hard, I saw allot of family's hiking it in sneakers though there are some muddy spots as expected. Roots and rocks to walk over. The views of the ocean at the end are nice.

The most important thing to know is you have to park in a small lot then there is a mile hike to the island. If you come to a Y in the road you've gone too far. The good news is the hike is beautiful. Decently defined trail with boardwalks to get you through a few wet spots. Once you're to the water it is just 100 feet of sand bar to the island. Make sure if you wait for a later low-tide you leave enough time because the hike gets pretty dark in the dense woods.

Easy and relatively flat trail. About 1 mile from parking lot yo Beach. Beach is really interesting and you can only enjoy at low tide. It creates Bridge to Barred Island. Barred Island is small but beautiful

A 2.5 mile hike on a carpet like trail that is all but covered in tree roots. Rewarding photo opp features when you get to the water. An adventure the whole way through and very well marked.
Bill Edwards — Google review
Beautiful mossy woods and spectacular coastal views. Be careful hiking as there are a lot of roots.
Bob Bickel — Google review
Great short, medium intensity, hike through lush, moss covered, coastal forest. Once you get to the coast you can find rocky shore mixed with a sprinkling of sand beaches. If rushed you could be out and back in an hour but I'd recommend taking your time to explore the tide pools and beaches along the way.
sphennings W. — Google review
Free parking for this wonderful trail. Room for about 10-15 cars.
Daniel Hefford — Google review
Watch the tide tables and hike out as the tide is dropping, before low tide, if you want to go across the sandbar to the island. The hike through the preserve is a little otherworldly with the amazing moss blanket over the forest floor. Lots of roots and rocks along the trail.
