An absolutely striking church. Thanks to Rodolfo Morales for restoring this treasure. The ceiling is one if the most beautiful in all of Oaxaca. Loved the ornately carved doors. Worth the trip. :)

This is definitely worth seeing. It has an exhibit of many of the works of Rodolfo Morales, one of Mexico's greatest artists. Located in Ocatlan, Oaxaca, Mexico. Cost only 15 pesos to get in.

Attached to Ocotlan's lovely church, this art museum is ensconced in beautifully restored rooms. Many of the modern pieces were done by native son and philanthropist Rudolfo Morales. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy out-of-the-way places.

Ex convent is home today to the many art works of Rodolfo Morales. A native of Ocotlan, I enjoyed his many styles of drawings paintings pottery murals. Truly a master of his talent. I enjoyed the motif of seeing three dogs in many of his works. One of the three being yellow. As I continued visiting through out Oaxaca, my family couldn't help but notice every place we vistied. We would be great ed by a yellow dog. Rdolfo's house is also close by the ex convent.

The trail, or road, begins in the tiny village of Benito Juarez which is 28 km up a curvy, but well maintained dirt road.
You go to a building and pay $100 pesos per person to enter. The money goes to support the village.
There are many trails or you can walk or drive the 3km to the lookout and footbridge. If you want to hike the trails it’s best to hire a guide for $300 Mx since you can easily get lost on the trails. The walk up the road you won’t get lost.
In early May there were wild flowers everywhere and great views as well as lots of cows, donkeys, horses, goats and chickens.
A long ways up a mountain on a dirt road—but so worth it.

There are several dining rooms where you can enjoy food from the region. In 2019 I visited Oaxaca and took 4 different cooking classes. Reyna's kitchen was so friendly and inviting and was my favorite class. In May I returned to Oaxaca with my wife and introduced her to El Sabor Zapoteco. She loved it too! Reyna's class has inspired my cooking for the past 3 years. Recommend her class as a must do event.
Rockford Samborski — Google review
As a professional chef working for more than half my life in food and taking loads of classes throughout the world, this was hands down one of the most authentic, educational and inspired experiences I have had. Reyna was the most gracious host and educator. She was able to share her own personal cooking journey while providing history of the ingredients, techniques and dishes. I would recommend this class to all ages so one can truly appreciate the work that goes into making food and learning about Zapotec traditions.
Ezra Malmuth — Google review
Wonderful experience with Reina and her family! By going to their village instead of taking a cooking class offered in Oaxaca, you're supporting little family businesses who are struggling with lower visitor numbers. VERY worth it! Reina and her family are very sweet and their open air cooking space is perfect! Learned how to make delicious Mole, from start to finish, following her mama's recipe. Plus some yummy accompanying dishes! Buying produce in the local village market is a very nice, truly local experience also.Very relaxed atmosphere.

We thoroughly enjoyed our market tour and cooking class with Reyna. She is warm, knowledgable and happy to share her traditions. We felt at home immediately upon arrival to her lovely open air kitchen. We really liked making and eating enchiladas with mole rojo. We highly recommend this experience.
Yvonne Coyle — Google review
We all loved the classes! The trip to the market to buy the ingredients necessary to make the planned recipes was a wonderful and informative experience. Preparing our menu was hands-on and lots of fun. Reyna did a great job of explaining and demonstrating the process. Then we got to eat it all!

Reyna and her family provided my husband and I a wonderful experience. Hands on instruction and a beautifully presented lunch. We plan on visiting her again and highly recommend her class. 💐

I am a food blogger with more than a casual interest in how traditional foods are made, and I had a wonderful experience here learning to make Mole Negro, Stuffed Squash Blossoms, and other delicious foods. The whole experience was so unique and interesting, the instructor was so knowledgeable, and the food was delicious. Just can't say enough good things about the day I spent here!
Super One, also known as Mercado Tlacolula, is a renowned market in Oaxaca that takes place every Sunday. It is one of the oldest and largest weekly markets in the region, offering a wide variety of goods including food, household items, woven crafts, and alebrijes. Visitors are advised to be cautious of pickpockets due to the crowded nature of the market. Despite this, it is generally considered a safe and vibrant place to explore.
Amazing market with a little bit of everything you might need from food, household goods, woven crafts, and alebrije. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Oaxaca on a Sunday!
Also be careful of pickpockets and keep your backpack in front of you. As per any crowded area, it's always good practice to have your phone and money tucked away safely (and not in your back pocket!). It felt safe to be there, but it's never fun to lose something.

01/15/2022, This place is amazingly beautiful are of Oaxaca. The name of the town is Tlacolula, Oaxaca. This place on Sunday it is so busy. However, we ended going on a Saturday. Regardless, I had a lot of fun meeting all the vendors. First, I had to do a stop to get a bite to eat were they sell goat and sheep soup and tacos. Unfortunately they were out of goat so, I had sheep soup/tacos. So, I may add, it was very delicious 😋. Oh my word, the flavor of the soup itself it was absolutely delicious add, cilantro, lemon, and shredded cabbage. I honestly had to ordera...lol
My next stop same place there was an alley of sorted meats..I selected the meat I wanted with a slice of fat. So, how it works. You select the meat you want to be grilled...(fyi: you grill your own meat grills are provided for free). So anyway, before you select your meat, same area there are Oaxacans selling like your veggies you will need to add to your meats. As for us we avocados, onions, Anaheim chili aka..agua chilli. And, don't forget to buy your tortillas..unfortunately only corn tortillas are sold there...but, they are homemade. So, back to the meats. We were lucky bcs the lady cooked our meats. Afterwards we made tacos...see pictures...if you are ever visit Oaxaca. Make a trip to Tlacolula. Make sure you catch a cab by their baseballs station next to McDonald's..the red taxis that will say on the windshield Tlacolula. You looking at $3.00 to and from..it is worth it..take your appetite.

Hierve el Agua is an ancient geological site that boasts towering rock formations resembling waterfalls, as well as natural pools and springs. Visitors are encouraged to bring their bathing suits in order to take a refreshing dip in the saltwater springs. A comfortable private transport is provided, along with delicious Oaxacan coffee for the two-hour journey to reach this unique destination.
The view here is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! My son and I had a blast. The pools and hiking trails are serene. The ride up and down the mountain is beautiful, but it's also long and bumpy. It definitely reminds me of something out of a movie. You'll pass by so many little villages within Oaxaca. The experience altogether is very photo worthy :)

Had a great visit here with one of the local guides. Very knowledgeable and amicable. And awesome place with amazing views. Bring your swimsuit for a duo in one of the pools. Expert tip hire a local driver and get here early before all the buses arrive.
Dave & Kirsten Phillips — Google review
Came here via private driver from Oaxaca on Friday morning in early July 2023. If you want to have your mind blown, definitely check this place out. It's under 2 hours away from Oaxaca and MX$2,500 (including tip) for the driver for the seven hours from pick up to drop off. The driver also took us to a rug making factory - that's why the trip took so long. We spent two hours at Hierve El Agua.
We did the tour with the tour guide there and it was wonderful. They are paid by tip so we gave him MX$250. He showed us the different plants to avoid and which rocks were slippery. The tour guide only spoke Spanish though. He took us to see the petrified waterfall down below the pools. He was super worth it because not only did he give us the history of Hierve El Agua, but he also took incredible pictures for us. He even got on his belly to get some of the shots!
We also took the toll road into Hierve El Agua which was MX$96 each way and cut the drive time by 25 minutes. Once in the small town there were check points that required a fee - one that was MX$20/person and another that was MX$50/person including the driver. Super worth it. There's only two petrified waterfalls in the world - this one and the one in Turkey.
Osula Lam — Google review
Gorgeous location. A must see when visiting Oaxaca! One of 2 places in the world like this. The other is in Turkey. Get a guide so that they give you more information about this place. But beware, our guide had us doing vertical hikes up the mountain. We’ll with it.
Arcy Hernandez — Google review
A lot of stairs to walk up so keep it in mind if you have any health issues. Water super cold and refreshing. Be careful, the bottom of the pools are slippery. You can buy food and drinks in the entrance. They have bathrooms and changing rooms for an extra fee
Xime Acabal — Google review
It can be crowded but it's truly amazing. The views of the countryside are amazing this high up. If you want to go swimming in the pools know there doesn't seem to be any lockers, so plan accordingly. We put our stuff in a backpack and just set it by the pools.
Mark Smith — Google review
Great place.
It's unique as it's the one of two places in the world with calcified waterfalls (great other one is in pamukale in Turkey).
The road to reach it is an easy dirt road that goes up and down the mountain with some traffic.
The payment is very small for something like that!
The view and the cold water are exceptional!
Highly recommended for all !
It's worth the trouble!
jim pap — Google review
Beautiful place with waterfalls "frozen" in lime.
These are still fed from small springs (water eyes).
The place is developed for tourism, which means on the one hand there are well-maintained paths and toilets as well as small shops for food and drinks, but also some local guides and you pay for road use, parking / entrance, although relatively little - road with the car 20 pesos ( 1 euro) and parking / entrance 50 pesos ( 2.50 euros) - so reasonable prices.
Getting there by car is still a bit of an adventure on partly unpaved roads - but I've driven on wilder roads on Crete.
The view is very nice and there is the possibility to go into the water - but you should not expect clear pool water.
There is a path with steps leading to the second larger waterfall and down to its foot - this is a somewhat longer and steeper path.
All in all, a beautiful place worth seeing.
Yo Lo — Google review
Interesting place, one of the major tourist attractions near Oaxaca. Petrified waterfalls are indeed an amazing view.
If you go by car expect to pay 20 mxn per person at the entrance of the village and another 50 at the entrance to the waterfall area.
Then walk down the path along the food stalls and in 5 minutes you will reach the pools located at the terrace of the waterfall. Some people finish their journey there having some bath and Instagram photos looking like an infinity view at the edge of the pool. More endurable walk down to the foot of the waterfall enjoying great views on the way there, then they go around from the other side to the entrance. The path is quite challenging, especially when it's hot so take a lot of water to drink on the way. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to walk around, and at the end you can chill in the pools. There are no pools at the footage of waterfalls as someone mentioned.
At the entrance there are a lot of food stalls with basic mexican tapas, fruits and beverages. Parking is free of charge.
You can get there by buying a guided tour in Oaxaca but then expect to be hurried. If you want to take your time organise your own transportation.
Szymon L — Google review
If you're looking for another great spot to visit in Oaxaca, you should definitely check out Hierve el Agua. I recommend exploring it at your own pace instead of doing a tour, as you may feel rushed to see everything in just a few hours. It's truly an amazing place to see, and I hope you enjoy your visit!
SIRLUNA (David) — Google review
I visited this place like 20 years ago and it has changed a lot, it seems more touristy, but the petrified waterfall, the pools between the mountains is something that you do not see in many places, I believe the other petrified waterfall is in Turkey. So if you are in Oaxaca you must visit it and hike instead of swim, or if you have time to do both, I paid a tour because I didn't want to drive the only bad thing is they give you 2 hours only. If you choose to swim, bring your swimsuit under your clothes because you have to walk to arrive at the pools, the place has changed rooms, but we used them to change the wet clothes to dry clothes! And bring a towel the win is cold! Be aware the road is very narrow and rocky, wanding with plenty of cliffs road!
Ariane Hernandez Garcia — Google review
You did not travel to Oaxaca if you didn’t stop by to visit the beautiful scenery of Hierve el Agua.
There’s various ways to arrive. I chose the bus and taxi route in order to not feel rushed.
I would highly recommend getting a guide to help with the hike since it’s very easy to get lost. Abraham was very informative and kind where we learned about the wildlife, geology, and history of this beautiful land.
Entrance is 50 pesos and the hiking guides are donation based. However, very much worth it and they have guides who are bilingual.

If you are into mother nature’s natural wonders, this is the place to go!

My kids loved it. I took a tour that gave us the chance to stay in Hierve el Aqua for 2 hrs. Which I think is enough if you do not take the tour to the bottom of the waterfall. We stayed in the water and had a great time. I took a panoramic image to give you a layout of the place.
Roly Rodriguez — Google review
Stunning area. I recommend taking a walk (around an hour - hour and a half) with a local guide. It's free, just tips. You will see stunning views of the waterfalls and get away from the swimming crowds.
Amy S — Google review
this place is absolutely stunning and delivers on the beauty promised on pictures most of us saw online. the water is not warm, but the scorching heat of the day will make it super pleasant to swim in. the views of the Oaxacan Sierra are breathtaking, plenty of view points and hiking trails to observe all of its beauty.
i recommend showing up early, if you want less crowds and better photos. the cost is $50 pesos to enter, i took a collective and was charged an additional $20 pesos to some locals to get into the road to get here. so should have booked a tour instead.
highly recommend getting a tour to get to this spot, it’s much cheaper than a private taxi, or busing/using collectivos. I wish we did, we waisted so much time to make it to this location. You can find tours in Centro, for $250-$400 pesos there and back.

Can't recommend this place enough. Honestly, the scenery is just gorgeous and breathtaking. Very windy so be prepared! Unbeatable views that will remind you how wonderful Mexico is. Try to get there early, as buses start arriving around 10ish... You can get drinks, food and guided tours as well.

What an amazing place. Truly awe-inspiring. The calcified falls have to be considered one of the world's wonders. It is absolutely essential to get a certified tour guide to explain the history of the falls, the people who lived there, and the context of the issues facing the region. It was sad to hear that the main spring was about a meter high in flow over 50 years ago, and now the flow is down to a couple of inches at best. Putting your feet in the water or better still swimming in it is an experience that should not be missed.

Very cool place! So glad I visited. You can see the rock waterfall rather quickly and move on if you wish or you can spend hours hiking the trails and taking in the incredible landscape. I hiked for a few hours and loved it. It’s not easy, though. Some serious incline and many many steps/stairs.
Geordie McManus — Google review
Beautiful petrified water cascades. You can hire a local guide for 50 pesos who’ll show you where to go for good photos but note it’s around 300 steps downhill and the steps are big so the walk back up is a bit unpleasant. Good to have a dip in the pools after! Entry fee is 50 pesos

Fantastic place less than 90 minutes from Oaxaca city. The water pools, the falls, the natural beauty, the terraced farming in the distance is all so good to experience!
There are many food and drink stalls at the beginning of the way down and have good options for drinks, fruits, snacks and lunch.
There are clean bathrooms at the top (have to pay MXN$ 5 for use.
Don’t forget to get your bathing suits as the water is cool and very inviting.

Incredible place. All I can say is I should have visited it years ago. Also, if you really want to experience an unforgetable trip. Take the dirt road from Mitla instead of the main paved road, unless you have fear of hights. Also, make sure you do the full hike all the way down the dried waterfall. Bring water, and good shoes. Good workout but well worth it!

This may be my favorite thing we have done in the entirety of Mexico. It’s difficult to describe but truly impressive. The highway is good from Oaxaca most of the way. Once going up the mountain the views are spectacular, the site itself has all the food and drinks you could ever want. I Strongly advise you to take the guided tour. The views are amazing. Bring a hat for the sun. The “falls” themselves are very beautiful and the natural spring pools are just too cool. We spent the entire day there and I look forward to going back!
Danny Diaz — Google review
It takes about 2 hours and 15 mins to get there from oaxaca city
First need to catch a collective or a taxi to go to a little Pueblo called Mitla and from there another collective to get up to Hierve El aqua.
In Mitla we had to wait about half hour because they wanted to fill the truck before he could leave
When arriving after a long and curvy mountain road ,there are a bunch of family owned restaurants and bars where you can eat , drink and refresh.
Hierve El aqua is about 10 mins walk from there,
Even when I only walked in the pool, there were a lot of people actually swimming and sunbathing.
We spent about 2-3 hours and headed back.
Make sure to bring sunscreen because it's very hot and sunny.

I say you should still visit this place even thought a lot of people say it’s an “overhyped” place. The Valley view, the waterfall and pools are very cool. Again, we went there with very knowledgeable guide and learnt a lot during our hike. Note that majority of tours there guides in Spanish cause none of tour guides (outside of the local indigenous community people) are allowed to guide people. I would recommend going there around sunset time, it’s gorgeous there!

EL MADRESAL is a serene beachfront ecological resort that offers cozy cabins with terraces. This tranquil retreat is perfect for both families and couples seeking a peaceful getaway. The resort features well-maintained accommodations surrounded by natural beauty, including one of the most stunning beaches in the area. The friendly staff ensures a pleasant stay, and the restaurant/bar serves delicious food.
To travel to Madresal is quite a trip. But for those who strike out on the travel to Madresal it will pay handsomely! We were looking to stay for 2-3 nights but ended up staying 5 nights. You'll arrive by a small boat through the mangroves, over the lagune to the hotel area. The hotel is made up of a collection of huts with a restaurant at the beach. The huts are basic but all you need to enjoy a few days away. The beach is clean but the current can be strong and is nothing for small children. The restaurant serves simple but excellent food and the staff is very friendly and professional. Let them know if you want something not included in the menu and they will get it done. The hotel arrange an excellent boat trip to see crocodiles and birds. The local turtle conservation use the beach of the hotel to release turtles and there is a good chance that you will have this experience during your stay. Laundry can be arranged. The staff is overall super helpful and professional. If you are looking for simple beach life, this is the place for you

Active stratovolcano, the second highest mountain in Central America, for hiking & views.
It is a large walk, but once you get to the top you know it was worth it.

Views from the Tacaná Volcano
You are watching Tajumulco Volcano and Santa María and a little bit of Atitlán Volcano
🌋💙🙌🏼
If your plan is to hike this 4092 mts Volcano, go to sleep to Casa Yolanda, on the base of the Volcano, in Los Trigales Toniná.
You can access going from Tapachula (Mx) with a Van to Cacahoatán, then, another to Unión Juarez (ask to go to Talquián).
You have a 1 hrs walk up through “La Línea” until Los Trigales, and another to Casa Yolanda.
You can sleep there and eat beautiful food from their own garden and it’s not expensive at all.
Incredible to live and share this local life experience with them.
The hike from there to the top is between 4 to 6 hours. To start around 3/4 am is highly recommend it so you can see the sunrise really high.
You can rent some tents and sleeping bags over there if you wanna camp up on the Volcano ( they will tell you where).
I also really recommend to do a Temazcal on the house of Severlú after the hike to complete the whole local experience 🙏🏼.
Hope this review can help you!
Wish you a great hike 🙌🏼🌋💙.

It is a beautiful place but we did not have the same experience as some others have shared and we were not prepared enough. We started from Juárez and we did not bring much food, water or camping équipement as we were told there are 2 places along the way to sleep and buy food.We left at 10 am at 5pm we were not at the top and did not find the places to eat or sleep. We found a camp site were we decided to sleep and nearly froze to death overnight. There was snow on the ground when we woke up. Still without food, we reached the top after few more hours of hiking. And did the ascent back until dark. It was beautiful at sunrise but make sure you are well organise and I still don’t understand where those places to sleep and eat are...

You can rent a tent and sleeping bag at Casa Yolanda for 300 pesos, but it's not the best...so bring warm clothes.

Izapa Archaeological Zone
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
Ancient Ruins
First of all, be aware that the archaeological site stretches more than a mile, N-S and is divided into several "Groups" of [largely unexcavated?] mounds, ruins and stelae labeled A-F.
Most tours go to the easily-accessed (as in right next to the highway) reconstructed mounds, 'ball court', etc. at the "Group F" site on the north side of the highway.
To see the noted [but largely illegible] "Tree of Life" Stela 5, you have to go down a narrow, fairly bumpy, rough road south of the highway to the "Group A" site. You don't just drive / stroll in, however: access is through a Mayan household's compound and a guide / chaperone is likely required. Presumably, there are permissions, fees, and the like that have to be arranged in advance. I was on organized tours to both the "Group A" and "Group F" sites.
The field in which Stela 5 is located is dominated by a massive, living 'Tree of Life', said to be sacred to the Maya.

Lot of history here. Not too crowded when we were there and so we could take our time in a relaxing manner.
Volcán Tajumulco, the tallest volcano in Central America, offers a challenging and rewarding overnight trek to its summit. The crater provides spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, including a beautiful sunrise. One can access it via a two-hour hike from the highway or drive up further with a high clearance vehicle. However, visitors are urged to respect and preserve the natural environment by not leaving any garbage behind.
Awesome volcano you hike. Really easy to do on own without a guide as the path is easy to follow. Takes between 3-4 hours to summit at a steady pace. Views are amazing from the top and sunrise from the ridge was great. Gets cold on top so need jumpers, coats, hats, gloves etc…

I hiked alone up from hotel Villa Real 2 weeks ago. There was police and military at the trailhead and a bit up too. When I came down there where even 4 police guys climbing all the way up to the peak. Lots of locals coming down from overnight stays on Sunday. Seems like it's safe now.
Stephan Schoenenberger — Google review
Tajumulco is the highest mountain in Central America. The peak is sitting at 4'202 meters. It is important to get used to the altitude before going on a hike there. It is for instance recommended to stay at least 2 days somewhere around 2000 to 2500 meters before.
I did a hike with a guide. We started at 3'000m from the small roadside town of Tuichan and walked up to base camp around 4'000m to spend the night. That way we could watch both the sunset and the sunrise from the peak. The views were specular.
The total distance was 18.2 km / 11.3 miles and a positive elevation of 1460m / 4800 ft over the 2 days. The hike isn't that difficult (I would qualify it as a moderate one) but the heavy backpack and the altitude can make it challenging if you're not used to this kind of activity...
Note that there is an entrance fee of Q30 (included if yiu take a guide) collected by people with some sort of uniform at the beginning of the path about 30-45 min from the road.
Overall, this experience was great and I highly recommend it.
Julien Dumont — Google review
Awesome view. I suggest you go up for sunrise! It took me 2 hours to hike up from the highway, as is directed by AllTrailes.com. However you could definitely drive up further if you have a high clearance vehicle and shorten the hike to literally half the distance of what I did. I had to pay $25Q to get through. Please for the love of this volcano don't leave any garbage!

Incredible views from the summit makes the high altitude hike worth the effort. Hiked up at midday and the views from the summit above the clouds were awesome. Glad we did not do sunrise hike as it would have been incredibly cold (-10-20c) and windy.
Samuel Brown — Google review
Be careful if you go here - ask the locals if the way is safe. Nobody told us there was a conflict until we were being shot at. The locals then told us to take cover because we were walking slowly, oblivious to the fact that bullets were hitting the mountainside. We thought it was fireworks, which are common in cities year round in Mexico/ Central America. We should have realised it wasn’t safe when we saw men sitting with guns talking, sand bags, and ammunition casings on the ground, but we would never have thought somebody could shoot at us when it’s a normal tourist hiking trail. They told us 6 people have died so far, and some days they shoot every bus and car that drives by on the road. They took around 10 shots at us.

I'll never travel to Antigua without this trip planner again
One of my favorite places to visit every time I’m in Guatemala!
This trek is most enjoyed with a truck ride heading up then down. And hiking is only necessary when you make it towards the craters entrance and from there you hike down hundreds of stairs to the beautiful lake.
Coming back up to the stairs requires more energy so be prepared for that!
If you have bug nets consider bringing them just in case. The bugs were swarming over our heads the first time we went so having them handy would’ve made that moment a bit more enjoyable.
Please head to this lake early and coming past afternoon wouldn’t be advised in my opinion. You’ll need more time to enjoy this trek before the sun starts to set.

A nice lake in a Volcano crater. At the lookout on the top you have a great view of the lake and Santa Maria Volcano. The walk up is hard if you are not in shape, but you can pay a pickup to take you most of the way.

Beautiful setting, interesting cultural site. Get there early and go to the mirador first then walk down the long steep steps to the lake. Otherwise there's a good chance the clouds will roll in and you'll miss the view. Don't kid yourself, the walk up from Chile Verde is quite steep in places. It's doable but you'll need to be ready to make a serious effort.

We took the combi/chicken bus from av.15 calle 6 in xela to san martin chiquito (10Q). From there it took us was 2/3h by foot to the laguna. The path was very steep but wide and easy to walk. There’s also the possibility to pay a 4x4 taxi and get to the laguna. We camped there. Entry fee 50Q pp and 15Qpp to camp. It was very quiet and we were alone. At sunrise at mirador you can also see the lava of volcan santiaguito

This palce is amazing ! I've gone to many waterparks in the US and this one is on the top of my list of favorite waterparks to go to! I used to go here when I was a kid and it was my first time as an adult, at the beginning was a big shock because I thought they forgot to take care of the park but it was just a memory I had as a kid. The park is well maintained, has new things and it’s great for families with kids. I enjoyed being there for a couple of hours, the best part is they still have funnel cake and corn dogs :) if you have a membership entrance is free if not you will have to pay approximately Q170 adult and Q70 kids (if I’m not wrong). Recommend this place!

This amusement park features roller coasters & reproductions of famous world landmarks.
Excellent park with fun rides, good variety and a well crafted experience for families. If I where to complain about something is that everything is very small. I couldn’t ride the rollercoaster because the safety lock clashed with my shoulders and legs. Be careful with the tickets, though. If there’s even a mild rain, most rides are closed and you get no refund!

Visitors have the option to hike, bike, or drive up to the summit of Cerro El Baúl, a lush volcanic formation that offers breathtaking city vistas. It is advisable to avoid following Google Maps' walking route due to potential safety issues with dogs along the way. Instead, refer to a map for the trail's starting point and make your way there independently.

DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS TO THIS LOCATION! It will take you on side roads though what could be private property with vicious dogs. I was attacked by a dog en route ending my trip to Guatemala. Fun hike. DO NOT FOLLOW THE GOOGLE MAPS WALKING ROUTE. IT IS DANGEROUS WITH DOGS. Look at the map of where the start of the trail is and walk there. Google has you take the “fastest” route which is walking to the end of a neighborhood’s road, cutting through someone’s backyard, and then joining the trail buy hiking up the side of the hill. There is a clear and easy trail, do not follow Google.
Alex — Google review
Location is incorrect on maps. The view point is right at the top, you have to follow the road all the way around. It's hard to get lost if you just follow the road. It's near the slides area and sort of ring road which is correct in google maps.
Walking from Parque Central took us 3 hours return, with 2x 30 year olds going at a leisurely pace and stopping along the way for photos.
There was a couple of vendors set up up top selling fresh fruit and other small snacks, which was super nice.
I've heard this path can be quite unsafe so it's best to go on the weekend when there's a more people around. But leave your valuables at home just in case. There were quite a few people walking, running, biking and driving along the road when we were there around noon on a Sunday.

They've made some great upgrades here over the years. Beautiful pools, very warm water, ample bathrooms and changing area. Be sure to bring a jacket as the air gets quite cool at this elevation. The water really is warm, not just room temperature. Great for kids, adults, families, school groups, etc. Not great for people who have issues with balance as there are some areas that are uneven and slippery.
Callie Luckadoo Lopez — Google review
Lovely experience, range of pools at different temperature, the additional “anexo” we’re lovely and quiet felt in the middle of the jungle, well worth the additional $25Q.
The big pools might have seemed a little dirty but nothing to put us off.
Sam Delo — Google review
The water was tepid/lukewarm & now I understand the complaints people had in other reviews. You pay to get into the property, then they charge you again for parking, then they want you to rent a locker for while you are in the water… it gets annoying quickly, I’m glad I brought my own towel, who knows what they would’ve charged me to dry off! I saw someone else say they charge you to use the changing room, so I arrived in my swim shorts.
I was considering getting a bungalow for a couple of nights, but there was ongoing construction & even though I was only 1 person, they wanted to charge me for 2 for each night. Nice try fellas, after experiencing it, I’m glad I didn’t commit to staying there upon arriving in Xela.

It's on the top of a mountain, so it's a difficult and complicated way to get there, but it's a worthwhile place. Not many foreigners coming almost local vacation placed. It is very cold, but it is good to enjoy the hot springs. The water is not very hot. They change the water on Monday once a week. If you go on a Monday morning, you can bathe in very clean water, but on the weekend you will be in very dirty water.

A destination by itself and the view on the way is Amazing. Definitely worth the day tour from lake atitlan. The water is unique, sour & sweet, natural fountain hot spring, the temperature is around 40, close to the mountain/ fountain is hotter, away is cooler, as you prefer. We went to many hot springs in Japan, Europe, Asia, etc. this is unexpectedly one of the best ones! 100% recommended. Come early in the morning or later in the afternoon weekdays, then you have no crowds at all ;)

This place was a true disappointment. We did 6h of bus in total to stay less than an hour on site. The pools are not maintained and cleaned and there isn’t a proper flow to allow a good circulation and maintain cleanliness of the place. The locals seemed to enjoy the place very much and were gatekeeping the few spots of incoming hot water at the far end of the main pool. We waited 40min to touch the warm water and we left afterwards. The water was filled with organic debris including human dead skin and more… the place was no clean at all. The bathrooms were filthy and we also got scammed for the entrance price. We got the tourist price of 60q when we were told it would be 50q. The pictures on Google make it look nice and all but save yourself the detour and waste of time. Antigua is much nicer and the nature park in San Marcos if you want to go for a safe choice.
Maolibox — Google review
It is not as good as it used to be; years ago the water was hot and you could enjoyed a cold drink. The water wasn't clean. There was not enough space in the dressing room and the bathrooms. The price is not fare keeping in mind the water's temperature.
Jonatan Contreras — Google review
A great place to go. The changing rooms are nice and you can rent a locker for Q20
Orson Davis — Google review
There is a different entrance fee for locals vs tourists, and an incremental fee for parking. The water was on the lukewarm colder side except right up against the rock where the water was coming out from. Overall a fun relaxing experience but I wouldn’t say the water will soothe any sore muscles or anything. A nice activity to go with family. There is not an abundance of seating areas and most are just benches with a few tables here and there. The hotel was under renovation so I do not know what normal amenities are available from there. There was nowhere to buy food or drinks when I went so it’s good to prepare with at least water to rehydrate.
Adela Brigitte De Soto — Google review
It's a cool place. Good for a bit relaxing. I wish the water was hotter though. There are more pools. The first one before the parking is warmer and deeper. The second one the water was very low this time. Also if you pay 25q more there are some others. Apparently more private and no children allowed. I haven't checked those out though

Nice hot pools with nearby restaurants and bars. Only one pool is really hot. Cubicles to get changed in. No cell reception at the pools themselves. Interesting drive there past small market gardens. Lots of parking.
There is a restaurant under construction that will overlook the main pool. It’ll be great when/if that opens.

One of my nicest experiences in Guatemala so far ! We went at the closing around 5pm without knowing when they were closing , and they offer us to sleep there and have the hot spring for us alone all night long ! What a night !! 500Q for both of us , pool and rooms included , they even have a natural stone bath in the room with running hot volcano water so you have your own hot spring in the room !! Such a unique experience. You can also hike the mirador that start nearby the pools , 45min up . Not the nicest view though as there is a lot of trees blocking the view. Only downside. Also , really good pancakes in the morning 🥞
TheJZXProductions — Google review
I booked a half day tour for 160Q which included transportation there and back (private car) from my hotel and the entry fee to the hot springs. I paid the extra 25Q to access the private pools which was totally worth it. There are many steps to walk down so be prepared for the trip back up with altitude. There are around 5 pools of varying temperatures. All were clear with no sulfur smell. There are changing rooms, bathrooms, but no showers. There is a waterfall that you can access to cool off with cold water. I arrived around 10am on a Sunday and there were only 2 other people there. When I left sometime after 11am there were around 10 people, still plenty of space to enjoy the pools. The restaurant has a good menu, the food was tasty and came out quickly.

It's nice to go and chill for few moments but there's not much to do. They got like 4 ponds to be in. The water is warm and kind of dirty, but the place is nice.
It becomes expensive if you go by yourself cause transportation is about 100-120GTQ round trip from the town.

Loved it oh so much. Room was a bit moldy though. Not a problem for me but helpful for anyone with an allergy. The fireplace was lovely. The rock tub was beautiful. Water was heated spring water and not from the hot springs. Kind of better that way honestly.

We only spent 20 minutes there and not worth the transport both ways (tuk tuk for us was 60 each way). Drive was scenic at least. They were also doing very loud construction. A real, real let down.

I have no comment on rooms or service because I came here as a tourist from the US for the hot springs. Before I continue with my review, I'd like to give a COLD SHOWER warning. Yes, the showers at the got springs have only cold, freezing water. The water from the showers at the hot springs was cold AF.
There was construction happening when I was at the hot springs which took away from any peaceful relaxation. The hot spring was also not as hot as expected, except when touching the scalding hot waters falling onto the rocks at the far back of the pool where the source of the water lives.
A fog also rolled into the mountain pass when I was there on a SUNNY day and so it got very cold. Overall an unpleasant but fun experience.

las piscinas están demasiado frías. la ubicación es hermosa.
Traveling Central America since October and stopped here on way back to the US as we were needing to soak sore muscles. The pools were lukewarm and the climate pretty cool so mostly ended up with a cold instead haha.. the area is beautiful but socked in with fog. Too many cabanas and not enough hot water. Ice cold showers
Mayan Face Mirador is a popular spot for hikers and nature enthusiasts, offering stunning views of Lake Atitlan. The hike from Santa Clara is relatively easy, taking about 45 minutes, with the option for more challenging routes from San Juan or San Pedro. It's recommended to go with a guide for a safe and enjoyable experience. Many visitors suggest catching the sunrise for an unforgettable view, but going in the afternoon also offers a unique and peaceful experience.
One of the best spots to view the perfect sunrise in Lake Atitlan. It’s a short 45 minute hike with the initial path flat, but the last 20min or so is pretty steep and tough. But once you reach up there, you’re gonna be in awe! Highly recommend doing this quick hike! The views are definitely worth it.

We went there after sunrise without a guide (from Santa Clara) and didnt feel unsafe. Theres a very friendly local on the top who asks for 50Q per person. He explained us the way down to San Juan, avoiding the "loco man" and paying extra.
Irene Klaassen — Google review
Well, perhaps the best view of entire Atitlan. Most people go for sunrise but I decided to go in the afternoon which was amazing because I got the place to myself. The hike is easy (15-20 minutes if you’re fit) but the path is narrow. There are viewpoints along the way. Can’t recommend this place enough!!!

Amazing experience. We went with a tour we found along the streets of San Pedro for 90Q/person. They were great, we even got free hot chocolate and bread at the top! Quite difficult especially at 5 am in the morning, but super worth-it. Highly recommend

Beautiful place for sun rise! Paid $8 pp for trip! Don't pay $20 some have. Search for best price! Great view over lake

Amazing views at sunrise. The hike from Santa Clara isn’t that challenging. A mere 45 mins. If you want something harder go from San Juan or San Pedro. Be sure to go with a guide. We paid 200Q pp which with think is pretty expensive but that seems to be the going rate. This is probably the best view of the lake you can get right now, whilst Volcano San Pedro is unsafe to hike at this time due to bandits robbing people at the top of the summit.

A fairly quick hike, straight up hill. Worth it for the views alone and the chance to meet the sun along its daily entry into our lives. All of the volcanoes in the area are visible and you’ll likely see Fuego erupting. I saw it 4 times in under an hour. Go with a local guide.

Again another beautiful lookout. It's stunning views over the lake and the walk isn't too crazy. Takes you some stairs up but you'll get rewarded with a coffee if you're doing a sunrise walk. Absolute must do if you're around the lake. If you're lucky you see a glimpse of the fuego eruption too!

We did a sunrise tour for Q100. It was 40 minutes to the top with our tour. Some jungle track and steep steps, but not that hard. Lovely view at the top.
Anita is amazing cook, with great story and information about the town and the culture of the area. Highly recommended!

A must do on your trip to Lake Atlilan! Anita is a true local. She has a wealth of information about the food and people of Guatemala. The food you make is prepared as a group and Anita will teach you ways of traditionally preparing the food. Her way of cutting an onion has changed my life. You will make a snack, main meal, side dish, and a dessert. Menu is chosen as a group and can be made vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free. As you sit and eat the delicious meal you made, Anita will tell you her story. She is the true definition of a "badass". Not only has she elevated herself, she is helping other women in her community.

This is not a comprehensive review of the class, as unfortunately I did not have a chance to take part in one.
I did want to note that this place does NOT have a class every day as their google hours would indicate.
While I wish my schedule allowed me to stay in San Pedro for longer, as I heard many great things about the class, unfortunately cannot.
The cost of the class - when it does run - is $35 USD currently - and they accept credit card, and PayPal options too.

The BEST Cooking Lesson, Anita is such a nice and interessting person. You can ask her anything about culture and people, she will patiently explain it to you. She is also very passionate about giving back to the community. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to not only get to know the food but also the people.

My family took Anita’s cooking class today and truly loved the experience! It was certainly one of the highlights of our trip to Guatemala. From fresh produce shopping at the local market to communal cooking guided by Anita step by step the entire five hours were fun and fully immersive! Our group consisted of 13 people and Anita managed to keep all of us busy hands on the process quickly and efficiently rotating participants through various tasks. We enjoyed the process and the food came out tasting great and exotic. In the process we learned a lot about local culture and cuisine! This was exactly what we were hoping for and more! Highly recommend! It was also a pleasure to support a local business run solely by a woman!

This is a rich, rewarding and fun way to connect with the local farmers who provide the community with incredible fruits & vegetables. If you enjoy food, conversation and working with your hands, you'll have a blast with Anita in her gorgeous open-air kitchen overlooking Lake Atitlan. This was a real highlight of my trip to Guatemala. Educational, productive & delicious! Highly recommended.

A must do experience while at the lake! Anita is an inspiring woman and a great cook! This cooking class was by far the best food I’ve had in Central America and I also learnt so much about Mayan culture!

This cooking class was amazing. We started the morning going to the local market to get the ingredients, and then went to Anita’s kitchen to cook our delicious meal. We learned so much about local foods and how to cook different things in different ways. Anita accommodated everyone in the group, made everyone feel at home, and made the whole experience fun and light hearted and shares so many stories and insights into her life experience, culture and history. Anita is doing a lot to create changes in the local community and contribute to the local economy and her passion and energy really come through in all she does. If you are looking for an authentic, cultural experience in Guatemala, a way to contribute to local businesses, and prepare and eat really good food, I can’t recommend this cooking class enough. This was one of the best things I have done on my entire trip.

When I booked Anita's cooking class I expected it to be a unique experience, but I didn't realized how unique it is!
It is far more than a cooking class - starting at the local market (after choosing dishes from the menu) buying fresh ingredients and interacting with the locals, from there proceeding to Anita's home kitchen to prepare all the food with her patient and professional guidance, and finishing with sitting at the table, eating what we cooked and hearing Anita's truly incredible story. She is an inspiring women.
We had a great time, and at the end we had the pleasure to support their local community by buying a bag of coffee beans from their own fields (superb coffee!!!) and an apron made by local single mothers.
Incredible experience, can't recommend enough!

Hard to describe how special today was cooking and spending time with Anita. She was extra accommodating for me after I got my dates mixed up and had to reschedule!! I truly can't recommend spending a day with her enough.
Visiting the market you are totally struck by how Anita invests in and supports the community, and particularly the women of San Pedro. Everyone knows and loves her which makes it so fun to go through town with her - it's like you're with a local celebrity lol! The food was obviously amazing and I learned so much about Guatemalan and Mayan culture and food. I was traveling solo and enjoyed meeting people from all over the world in the class. Thank you Anita and I hope I am back at Atitlan to see you soon!!!

Highly highly recommend this - you’ll leave with both your heart and belly full. Thank you Anita!

I recently led a retreat at the lake and half of our group chose to participate in a cooking class with Anita. It was by far one of the biggest highlights of the trip for many of them, as well as for me. Anita took us to the local market to purchase all of the ingredients for our lunch and even taught us a few phrases in Tz'utujil (the local language). We loved her zero waste approach to shopping with baskets, small pales, etc. to carry the food to her lovely outdoor kitchen. Anita gracefully demonstrated and instructed us in various methods of cooking so that each of us constantly had a job. When we sat down to our delicious meal, Anita shared her own personal story of becoming an entrepreneur, learning English, and following her dreams despite the odds being stacked against her. Anita's story touched all of us in a profound way. I look forward to bringing more people to experience Anita's magical kitchen experience!

Volcán San Pedro is a conical volcano in Guatemala, offering forest-carpeted hiking slopes and stunning lake panoramas from its 9,908-ft. crater. The hike is moderately challenging but rewards hikers with great views. The trail starts at 1800m and reaches 3020m, making it more challenging than Acatenango according to some hikers. There's an entrance fee of 100 GTQ and police presence along the trail for security.
It was ~ a 2 hour steep hike with unlevel, precarious terrain in the dark (haha!). However, when you make it to the top ... pictures do no justice to explain the beautiful sunrise over the volcanoes and the caldera. Absolutely breath taking.
There were locals handing out free hot chocolate and coffee. Once in a life-time bucket list type memory with buddies.
Tony J — Google review
Great view. Too much for the entrance fee.
Ewelina Magaczewska — Google review
The ascent to San Pedro starts at 1800m and reaches 3020m. The trail is moderate, and in my opinion (as well as Juan’s - our guide), it’s more challenging than Acatenango.
The entrance fee is 100 GTQ (April 2024). The trail is always easy to spot and well-maintained. Police presence is also available at 2300m. Once at the top, the view is fantastic. Unfortunately, there is limited space at the viewpoint, so it can get crowded with 15-20 people. Tip: Go early to avoid the crowds.

You pass coffee plantations on the way up and the views of Lake Atitlan are incredible!

The view is amazing ! Took us 3hrs to climb up and 2hrs to get down
We went with a guide but it is not necessary you can just pay 100qtz entrance fee and go by yourself !
Go early tho , as it gets cloudy at midday
Police is now at the middle of the volcan and apparently since then no robberies happened but I would still be careful and not take valuables
Emilie Denis — Google review
Quite a hike given it'll consume your day to get up and back down, but well worth it for one absolutely amazing view.
Some parts of the track need attention, and the way back down will be harder than the way up.
Don't be discouraged by the police who will run up and down the track past you - they use this track for training and are clearly super fit!

Went up today without a guide, took 2 hrs 15 min to the top and 2 hrs down. Also met other solo hikers without a guide. The rangers at the bottom and every guide I saw on the way said that the route is safe, always good to make sure before you go but it seems to be totally safe now, and the view from the top is awesome!
Elina — Google review
Great hike and view on the top. Path might be a little slippery on the way down.
Police are stationing 15 minutes from the top, but only till 12. They also stay at 2300m for longer.

Very easy to do. If you get to the volcano before 6am the ticket office is closed and you get in for free. The volcano is safe. Policemen are on 2300, as well as on 3000 meters. There is no need for a Guid.

The views from the top were amazing.
The hike was definitely the highlight of our days around lake atitalan.
We took a guide what was not really necessary since the way is quite obvious.
Furthermore he most probably could not avoid any robbery in case as well.
On the morning everything was very quite and we did not meet any other person.
On the way back we met several other travelers and the police was present at 2300m.
We started at 7am in San Pedro and were back shortly after 12.

It cost 100Q per person to enter. I started at 6am. It took about 3 hours to climb to the summit and a little less than 2 hours to go down. I didn't see any Ladrones at the time, but I hear they're very common. (Aug 2017)
Asher Richardson — Google review
100Q per person to enter, the climb is steep and sweaty but so worth it!!! We started around 7am, to get to the top before the clouds start to gather. For us, two well trained people (girl and boy) took us 2h 10min up, we kept a high pace. 2h down.
Since an robbery and attack with machete on tourists (in beginning of 2022) there are policemen about 1h in the trail. They offer company and security for the rest of the journey to the top. We did not take (we walked alone) it but I think the price was 50-150Q. Since the police has been stationed there it has not been any robbery.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our kayaking experience with Humberto. Humberto was a knowledgeable, fun, and laid back guide. His approach to life was really refreshing. I had so many more questions to ask him! The kayaking pace was good, neither too fast or too slow. Altogether a beautiful and enjoyable day getting to know Lake Atitlán and learn a bit about local Mayan culture and history.

We were there with our little 5-year old daughter, and she did archery, kayaking and rock climbing. Our guide for the day, Alex, was so much fun with her! They were friends at the end of the day. All activities were fun but also very safe, according to US standards. The owners were so friendly. They served us a delicious home cooked lunch with refreshing lemonade. This is a peaceful place to relax, and there are a lot of different activities to try. Definitely a must when you'll visit Lake Atitlan.

The hike with Alex, a local Mayan guide with perfect English, simply made my trip to Guatemala. I did the upper Mayan trail - and the hike plus visit to the towns right after was worth every penny. I was traveling by myself, and Alex made sure I was safe every step of the hike, from carrying a walking stick for me to use whenever I needed, to creating little "stairs" with his feet on the particularly steep parts of the hike. The best part though, beyond the incredible views and the exhilaration of the mountains, were the stories. Alex is from the area, he knows the history as well as the current day events, and his stories and infectious joy for life are priceless. It was exactly what I wanted out of my trip.

I did the private Mayan shaman ceremony in a sacred cave. It's advertised that you take a chicken bus up to the cave and your guide will explain the ceremony and the caves as well as the Mayan calendar and you will receive your Mayan horoscope.hen a shaman will do a ceremony based on one of 5 topics: healing, protection, safe travels, cleansing of bad energy, or insight into challenges in your life.
I will start by saying the location and the cave itself were amazing and the shaman was great. He was professional and and I felt a powerful energy during and after the experience.
My 3 stars is for the guide and what I feel is a misleading description of the tour. First off, I was given a location to meet my guide, who was not there at the time. I asked someone nearby who brought me to him (he was sitting in his car). We then drove to the cave (no chicken bus, which might be a pro for you but I was looking forward to it).
The ceremony is done completely in a local language and Spanish. If you do not speak fluent Spanish, do not do this tour. My Spanish is intermediate and I had difficulty understanding the shaman, when I asked the guide to help translate, he completely mistranslated what was said. He also wasn't able to answer any of my questions (in Spanish or English) about the cave, horoscope, or ceremony. It felt more like he was a driver than a guide.
The owner was very responsive when booking/taking my money, but when I had a follow-up question about the horoscope reading, she became unresponsive. I then received a Whatsapp message that was copied from google about my sign. For $150 private tour, this seemed like I was ripped off a bit.
If you're interested in this experience, book with another company or ask around for a local shaman and book yourself.

This was a colorful, unique, and fascinating cemetery. The bright colors jump out at you as you walk along the paved or dirt paths from gravesite to gravesite. From grand mausoleums to small crosses, there is a range in how people are remembered.
The cemetery is a quick walk from the nearby market.
Very cool place. Lots to see and buy and beautiful colors everywhere. Check out the Maximon figures (the Mayan/Christian hybrid deity who smokes cigarettes and drinks rum, very cool).
I would suggest being careful after dark in Chichicastenango. MS-13 has a pretty strong presence here. They don't hassle tourists, but it's still a good idea to be careful.

I can see why this place is so talked about, it is a massive flea market. With thousands of stalls filled with beautiful Mayan textures and Guatemalan art, for cheap prices! We were interested in getting a mask, but were kind of disappointed in the quality (of the painting, the carving seemed good) so we didn’t end up getting one. Once it gets busy (around 11am) I’d recommend heading to the next place. Ideal if you have your own vehicle.

Traditional Mayan market that combines food, merchandise and crafts. Thursday’s and Fridays are market days, and therefore much more crowded but with a larger variety of products. Rest of the days also display goods. Visit the churches on both sides of the market, as they are the main tourist attraction. Both combine catholic and Mayan rituals and both date from the XIV century.

It’s a market crowded busy and if you don’t know what to look for a lot of manufacturers products not hand made if you ask them they will tell you what is hand made or not be ready to haggle and walk away a 500q could go down to 80q over interesting to go to every one was dry nice a little pushy but they are sales people tring to make a living
Always a beautiful place to visit where catholic and ancient traditions collide. Last visited in 2010 and 13 years later does not fail to impress us with its location at the heart of the town. During the week, you can enjoy the scenery of many ladies selling flowers and during market days, it is vibrant with so many locals, tourists and shops. On some days you can enjoy fresh made tamales and atole at the shops that set up at the bottom of the stairs.

The Iglesias de Santo Tomas is simply magnificent. Said to have been built on the remains of a Cakchiquel Maya temple. A visit here on a Sunday brings the technicolour spectacle of the market directly in front of the church, whilst inside is a blend of Roman Catholic mass and ancient Maya tradition. Copal incense is burned inside and around the church steps. Making the air thick with the sweet scent - not unlike that of Frankincense. A true sensory experience.
Lake Atitlán is a picturesque crater lake that offers accommodations and eco-tours. Visitors can also partake in hiking to the top of the nearby Atitlán volcano. The lake is renowned for its breathtaking sunsets, making it a popular tourist destination despite Guatemala's rustic infrastructure. However, there are no airports near Semuc Champey, and many travelers are put off by the prospect of an 8-hour bus ride on bumpy roads.
Lake Atitlan is beautiful, and there’s plenty to do. Panajachel is a good landing point, and seems to be the main hub for catching a boat across the lake. San Pedro is where you’ll find bars and parties, whereas next door San Juan is quieter and filled with coffee and art. The views are spectacular no matter where you are on the lake 🙂 I recommend hopping from town to town to see everything this area has to offer.

They also wait for you to finish and take you to the next towns. You can get a tuk tuk taxi cab around to were the locals take the boats for Q25 I believe. We did the private boat. Always bargain with the sellers. They’ll try to overcharge you. Beautiful sights and culture.

Encircled by the volcanoes of Toliman, Atitlan and San Pedro, there are Mayan villages around inhabited by small communities of farmers and fishermen. Some of these have become tourist spots filled with galleries, handicraft shops and cafes. The beautiful scenic surrounding of lake, volcano, nature, boat ride, rustic local ambience created an unforgettable tour experience.

Pre-Columbian city ruins dating from the 15th to 16th century with palaces, temples & ball courts.
First time visiting this ruins and was quite impressed with how well the ruins that remain are preserved. There wasn't a lot to see but it is an interesting place due to its historical significance. It was very pleasant to wander around the grounds imagining what this place looked like when it was bustling place 500 years ago. Would recommend spending and hour or two if you're in the area.

It's a pretty nice place to go and the ruins are kind of intact. Most of the area is outside ruins, though there is also a museum that shows some artifacts and explains some stuff about there. I personally had the chance to see a ceremony though I do not know how common those are or if they are common. My only complaint is in the museum there is not any English for the things to read in the museum. There are also tour guides so they may be able to explain it though I am not sure.

The site is small, but of historic relevance. It's well kept. Entrance bathrooms a clean. Short drive from Guatemala city.
Book a guide on site to understand the history and what the buildings are.

Iximche was a great surprise during our last visit in Guatemala.
A beautiful archeological place!
Lots of visitors, a lot of local Mayan people visiting as well.
Our favorite part about the place was the respect of the archeological pieces.
Some pyramids are still below some trees 🌲
We like also that some people still practice some Mayan rituals at this place.
Some local people also come to have family picnic 🧺

Tranquil archeaological site with an active ceremonial site. There is a small museum, with information only available in Spanish. There is no to very little info on the site itself on the buildings or places. Very peaceful environment

Had a wonderful time at this intimate Mayan ruins site. Cost $7 USD to visit the site and the museum. We had a connection to a local guide, Melvin. Wonderfully knowledgeable and spoke enough English to communicate very well! This made the trip for us. He studied for a few years to understand the history—not to mention he is comes from mayan descendants. He made it worthwhile!
Hard to hire guides on the spot, in fact, we had a family join us along we way.

Nice ruins. It's the first ruin that i visited in Guatemala so nothing to compare it to. I suggest making this apart of your itinerary if are near Antigua or Lake Atitlan. We visited three tourist attractions in one day. This was definitely worth seeing. A great road trip.

We had a wonderful guide, Alex, who shared with us information about his culture and the history of his people who lived at Iximche when it was the capital city of the Maya. We also had the privilege of watching a fire ceremony taking place in the ceremonial plaza.

A nice little step back into the history of Guatemala. It’s a nice site, nothing like Tikal but definitely nice in its own way! We were driving to Antigua from Xela and it was a nice break for the legs and not too expensive. It is worth the stop at least once. I was here 15 years ago and it’s still beautiful.

It's a different kind of Mayan ruin. Not tall, no Pyramids, but still a large site and nice little museum. It's quiet and you can feel the spirits of those who came before.

Fun are to hang out and lots of space to explore the ruins. You explore on your own, it was nice to have a local person able to explain things for us. The museum was informative as well. Would recommend stopping in there.
