Friendly, efficient service. So impressed by the quality waiting staff. Drink orders were taken and delivered quickly. The food was of a high standard with reasonable prices; and was excellent fare. A wonderful two hours!🥇🌞

Beautiful rocks to climb up! Relatively easy to climb it, almost like stairs, and you get a view over the whole beach. Stunning place to just relax

Love cave rock and sumner beach! Such a cool vibe. The beach is beautiful with soft sand and driftwood and there are lovely wide pathways to walk alongside the beach and surrounds. Nice cafes nearby for coffee and ice cream.

Great place to have a wee walk and explore especially when it is low tide. It was a very windy and blustery day. Amazing views of the beach on both sides. Bring a hat ona hot day like this

When late Tueday afternoon, many bars and cafes open. Good place to visit

A lovely natural feature for the shoreline. You can walk right through the "cave". A short rough climb offers a grand panorama.

Wonder on the beach. We can climb on the top also. Go inside and come out from the other different exit. It's on the beach. Clean place. Can have a fun time with fly and friends. Next to this cave there is a restaurant with hot drinks and beer too. After playing, you can chill with a beer from them or ice cream ..

The rock has a small cave in which you can walk through. Even within the cave you have beautiful views of the ocean which makes for great photo opportunities. You can climb up the rock and admire the view from the top. The sunset is amazing from there and the spot is fun to hang out at. I'd recommend it for a date. Also it can get a bit chilly in winter.

Feels like a hard solidified Lava rock formation cut through by water over years. I may be wrong but it's interesting.
Jagmeet Singh Hanspal — Google review
Unusual rock formation - a rock hill with a cave through it. You can walk through the cave without any difficulties. We went diting low tide, so I am not sure whether the sea water reaches this cave walkthrough. There were stairs that will lead you up this rock hill. There were a lot of people hovering around this place. Someone lit some wood for fire. I am definitely sure this wasn't allowed.

Cool small cave. You can walk you through the cave.

Beautiful day out, recommend a walk and ramble on the rocks.

Go during low tide, how you gonna make sure that it’s low tide?! I also don’t know but go during low tide 😂

Awesome fun in the cave and climbing the rock. Nice icecream shop across the road and beach is suitable for sunning and swimming with kids - ie without crazy waves. Easy walk to cute Sumner shops.
Kim Seaward — Google review
Lovely place to explore with the children. You can climb on top, or go underneath. Either way, the children thought it was great. The beach here is lovely and wide, and the nearby food places are good, including the ice cream shop and cafe across the road.

Located in Christchurch, Orana Wildlife Park is an open-range zoo that offers a range of animal encounters that can be customised to suit individual interests. With more than 400 animals from over 70 different species, the zoo is a great place to visit if you want to get up close and personal with some of the world's most fascinating creatures.
Pretty cool experience to hand-feed giraffes. Don't go when it's too hot because there is limited shade and some of the animals will be asleep in the shaded part of their enclosures. The feedings and talks are a great way to see the animals and learn more about them.
Leinad Diaz — Google review
Had a great time at Orana Park, lots to see and easily managed about 4 hours there. Staff were friendly and easy to talk to. Did notice some rubbish (plastic, cardboard etc) in a few of the exhibits and some areas weren't overly accessible with a pram but all in all we thoroughly enjoyed it
Josh Honeybone — Google review
Staff were so kind and friendly. Also very imformative. Was easy to get around the park, good facilities. Staff in the cafe were not as friendly but made a decent coffee thank you. Highlight was watching Tiger feed and feeding a giraffe. Thanks heaps for an awesome day. Thankfully weather was great too :)
J Martin — Google review
The park is very nice, it seems they take care a lot of the animals, the animals look healthy, they have some interesting animals, I really enjoyed see them. The feeding activity is pretty nice. I was so happy to see kiwi and more animals from New Zeland. The can improve two things, the first is was about the transportation, it is too difficult for tourists come back to city or airport. The staff can get a taxi, but It is too expensive. So check your transportation before you go. The park should put more water/beverages stations, it is needed with the walking and sun.
ESTRELLA RUBI REYNA QUIROZ — Google review
Great park, amazing animals, nice family day out. Got to see a kiwi for the first time. Great place to have lunch as well. Only unavoidable down side is that you must be prepared to walk a lot ... the park is obviously huge to give the animals enough space. There are however shuttles you can catch if you get tired.
Carl Papenfus — Google review
Would've like to have given a 5.. but there were a couple of things that bothered me. I think it's a nice park, because some of the fields are way back it's hard to see some of the animals from afar, especially take good pics of them, I guess the good thing about that is it means more space for the animals to move around in. Guess you need a good proper professional camera. Also lots of fence between you and the lions hard to take good photos without getting fence in the way. It's a big park, alot of walking and it does make it hard for those who are not good at walking and although there are shuttles you still need to walk a bit to see some of the animals up close and visit other enclosures that aren't close to the shuttle stops. The shuttle is nice. Possibly needs one more section on busy days as really didn't want to wait another 30mins to get from one stop to the next because no one else wanted to hop off. In the end on another round I was offered a seat up the front so that was nice. I saw a bit of rubbish around in the grounds and quite a bit of over grown grass or rubble... the gorillas are amazing, and feeding the Giraffe is cool. I didn't get to see all the animals because of all the walking. And I don't think the wheel chair would be good for those paths.. lots of gravel and slopes unless it was an electric wheel chair. But I did see what I majorly wanted to go see.. the Gorillas.. because I've never seen them before.. just majestic.. hope to get the money to visit again to see other parts of the zoo. And see more feeding times. The staff are nice.. the hot chips in Cafe weren't cooked properly and the Chai tasted weird I didn't even drink half of it..
Overall it's good eh..
Ash Gibson — Google review
Fantastic wildlife park, what a great experience!
I recommend following the feeding schedule of the animals to get the most out of your visit and to pretty much guarantee seeing the animals up close. Also suggest getting there by 10.30.
Feeding the giraffe was a highlight.
Cafe food was very good.
Laura Freeman — Google review
Loved the place. Lots of happy and active animals. All the staff were very nice and all had smiles on their faces. The lion encounter is well worth it too.
Nice size place and didn't have to try and rush around to try and see everything, we got to take our time and still got to see all the animals. The natural looking enclosures are also great.
Andrew Payne — Google review
Absolutely loved everything! Took the family for a whole days adventure at Orana park. First time seeing most of the animals which was very exciting for us. Our kids loved feeding the Giraffes and seeing the monkeys and wee farm animals. Highly recommended to anyone planning to visit in future!
Lorna Reece — Google review
Best place in Christchurch to visit wildlife and nature. We had the family pass and the price was not too bad for a standard family. The place is well organised and you can feed the animals following the day plan. You can also arrange birthday parties and kids will have a blast. There is a shuttle that goes every 30 minutes. Highly recommended to enjoy the weekend or a great family day.
Isfaqur Rahman Siddiqui — Google review
Absolutely love the gorillas, this is the big ticket item here as can't see them anywhere else in NZ. Giraffe feeding highly recommend too.
The park however would really benefit from a massive cash injection as clearly suffering right now on the cosmetic front.
Some displays were hard to tell if they were no longer in use with no animals, or just overgrown grass hiding sleeping animals?.
More 'rustic' than pristine zoo, and had to think of it as a donation rather than value for money
Brenda Kemp — Google review
What a great wildlife park! Lots to see including the baby giraffe. Great for the whole family. We walked the entire park, on a hot day definitely need sunscreen/hats although there were shady places to stop reasonably often.
John E — Google review
Lovely Zoo. Nicely spaced out and quite a few animals close up. Cafe coffee maker was a little too busy as Sat in school holidays but overall a relaxed experience with a teen.
Andrea Van Rinsvelt — Google review
The animals seem healthy and have plenty of space. The park is huge, maintenance must take a lot of work so it's understandable. I hope the silverback is well, he seemed lonely the day we visited. Maybe because the other one was asleep. I'm not sure how they ended up here.
danielleleilalu — Google review
The park has a wonderful open layout, much more natural than other zoo's. The animals in general were active in these nice environments, which is great to see. Gorilla's that were moving, monkeys swinging around and lion's happy enough to come close to feed. Very helpful staff, Highly recommended
van Dutch — Google review
Beautiful place to spend half a day. It is a big zize zoo in natural habitat. There is a lot of walking to do if you want a close-up look at animals. The shuttle is nice, but you can't see much from it. Will be nice if the stops are longer to allow you to jump off, see the animals for 5-10min, then jump on and go to the next stop. During the visit, it was impossible to spot some animals like the tiger or some big apes because the building door was locked or they were hiding somewhere. It will be nice to be possible to see them. Otherwise, it's a great encounter, and if the weather is good, it will be a great day.
Vasile Remus Coman — Google review
Its a huge zoo, great experience! Though it was hot at 26° today and was a long queue, it moves fast and feeding the giraffes is fun and exciting.. The lions are healthy, the gorillas are aloof and adorable, lol.. Plenty of parking and picnic tables. The toilets need frequent check as it was dirty on peak summer season.
Faye O — Google review
Holy cow, my kids (and myself) absolutely loved this place. Lions and tigers and keas, OH MY! Seriously though it was great. We got there at around 2:30 on Sunday Dec 31 and had the place to ourselves it felt like. We fed the giraffes. Saw the kiwi. Had a blast. Obviously you didn’t come all the way to New Zealand for a zoo. However, we did this on our last day and thought it was wonderful.
Andrew Barch — Google review
Beautiful place to look for wonderful animals and birds.
This is the only safari based zoo in NZ. You get to see lions, tigers, giraffe, gorilla and more.
Nice Cafe and souvenir shop.
Free parking at the premises. Family pass for 2 adults and 3 children for $91 is a good deal.
Vinay Karanam — Google review
What amazing experience! There was so much to see and do, I enjoyed seeing the Tiger, Meerkats, Otter's and the Giraffes..of course the rest of the animals but didn't finished the whole park as the kids were getting tired and grumpy hhaha but overall amazing experience! :D job well done !!!
Liz Kuil — Google review
Such a great place to enjoy a day out with the kids. We celebrated a 3rd birthday here and so much fun doing so. Recommended hiring or taking a buggy if you have young toddlers. There is a shuttle that goes around every 30 mins too if someone has difficulties walking long distance. Quite a walk around the place so don't rush it.
Saumya Amarasinghe — Google review
Great Wildlife Centre with a really impressive variety of animals. The enclosures all look pretty good and the animals are healthy. I like the fact they offer an adoption box system to help contribute to the long term welfare of the animals and the upkeep of the grounds etc.
Even though it was very busy when we visited it didn't feel crowded at all, and it's very cool that they offer a little hop on hop off cart that drives around the whole park for those who don't want to walk far.
Would happily visit again.

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a great place to visit with kids as they can learn about the different animals that live there and see some of the native New Zealand birds. The reserve also has a restaurant where you can enjoy Maori cultural performances (for an additional charge during the school holidays).
Wow. We spent the whole day here. The place really is top notch. Animals are clearly will looked after. They look shiney and healthy. Only one kiwi was active but it was worthwhile. Most people walk out before their eyes adjust. If you have patience, it will be the best experience as long as one of them is awake. We will come back again.

A fantastic day out for all ages. So many gorgeous animals, many you can pat and feed. So nice getting up close and personal with the animals. Very tidy and well kept park. Feeding the Eels was a highlight. A must visit for anyone living in or visiting Christchurch.

Came here wanting to see the Kiwi birds (which we did) but ended up loving the other wildlife that there is to see. A MUST visit when coming to Christchurch. Highly recommend purchasing a bag of food to give to the various animals for a more close and personal experience. Just amazing.

This place turned out to be much better than anticipated. My adult daughter wanted to see Kiwi’s and this place delivered. I really enjoyed the eels and all of the animals wandering around. It was a calm peaceful day during our 2 month vacation. A+

It was such a fun place to visit! The animals are beautiful and while taking care of. The staff seems very knowledgeable and caring for their fur babies.Great Zoo & Great Experience! The habitats were of good sizes for the animals, they looked healthy and the place was clean. Excellent place for kids and family. Very friendly staff, very well maintained animals. You get real close interaction with the animals, much better than at regular zoos. Really cool place. Such a nice and relaxing setting to walk around with the kids and enjoy the animals so up close and hands on! We had a wonderful time! ♥️

We got an annual pass and go regularly with our 2 year old. Easy to spend 1-2 hours here. Great way to get kids used to animals with plenty of opportunities to feed and observe them. They are constantly improving and upgrading various areas as well which is great.

incredible for the admission cost. for most people, by far the easiest way to see a live Kiwi. be warned, the Kea are very friendly! the farm animals in particular are all very docile and cute. felt a bit sad seeing the parrots though. some of the exhibits are clearly way too small, even for a zoo or "wildlife reserve". in any case, well worth the time and money to come here for an hour or two.

Amazing place. Allow plenty of time to walk around. Really impressed by the quality of the exhibits and structures. Very well kept. Lots of different types of animals to view and feed. Beautiful cafe to relax and warm up in by the fire. Top 10 members get 10% off entry too.

This place is amazing!
We did the capybara feeding and it was so nice. All the animals there seem well taken care of, even the ones that follow you string down the paths. Highly recommend getting a couple bags of food. All the birds aviaries were great, the kea parrots were especially cheeky and chewed at my camera strap while sitting on my shoulder. Super close and beautiful :)
Kate Skinner — Google review
Great place for at least 2 or 3 hours entertainment! Buy some cheap food there if you'd like to feed the birds or animals. Wait for at least 5-10 minutes for your eyes to adjust in the dark Kiwi room. We were lucky to watch a kiwi searching for food right below us for over 10 minutes. The Kea enclosure is also an awesome experience along with the Wallaby enclosure!
Sam Davidson — Google review
Love the park where you can interact with different animals in close proximity (I had ducklings chasing after me which was real fun!). I went on a relatively quiet weekday and the walk in the park itself was relaxing. I was also impressed at how they tried to incorporate NZ history in their decor. Not my first time seeing real kiwis, but I liked how we could see them up close (without glass barriers) in the kiwi house. If you have time, do try the optional experiences (of course, book ahead of time - their website is easy to navigate and they reply to emails quickly too). I managed to book for the capybara encounter and it was definitely the highlight of my whole trip to New Zealand! The lady guiding us knows her stuff and was awesome with the capys (and their goose friend Bambi). I also enjoyed a banana milkshake at the park cafe served by the friendly staff working there.

After visiting 3 different spaces in NZ I finally came face to face with a Kea
This wildlife park is a pleasure to walk around, it is beautifully set out and never obtrusive, it's almost as if you're meant to be there.
You can buy food for the animals and hand feed them, which is customary for most wildlife parks, the animals are used to this which results in them approaching you, and sometimes following you around!
Some animals are a little excitable when trying to score food from you, with amusing results (looking at you, goat who tried to climb the fence) or seem to pop up out of nowhere
I absolutely recommend a visit if you're in the Christchurch area.
Melissa Adams — Google review
Lovely weather. $3 per bag of food. There are buckets of food too. Pathways pretty wide, watch out for the occasional tree root. Monkeys, capybara, goats, horses, otters, macaws. 32.5 for adults and 12.5 children. Not too bad a day today
Michelle C — Google review
Had a great day out with my wife and 11 month old. The park is split up into 3 sections exotic animals, farm animals and animals native to new Zealand. The park had a very natural feel to it with lovely walk ways with duck ponds and birds throughout meaning you never felt like you weren't near something to look at. Even managed to stop for a lovely coffee watching the deer.
You can buy food to feed some of the animals but we didn't as our child was a bit small. Saying that she still loved to get close to the farm animals and stroke the goats/sheep.

First time for myself and two under 4yo. Was enough to keep them engaged through the entire park. The pathways are great and easy to move through even with a buggy. Great time, thank you :-)

It’s a good place, staff are nice. We saw kiwi. Feeding is a little more expensive than farm. We had a pleasant afternoon.

Lovely place to bring young children. Lots of animals to feed and see. Place was nicely decorated and has a rustic feel. There are benches and tables for picnic in the middle of the reserve. Reserve just feels a little small and cramped. All else is good.

This was an amazing zoo / wildlife reserve lots of animals to get close to you are able to even feed some of the farm animals for an extra $4! Favorite bit when staying in Christchurch would recommend!

I absolutely love this place. I visit every time I'm in Christchurch. It's definitely something to do if you're planning on being here the whole day. The shortest visit I've had here was 4hrs.
I've done both the Capybara and Lemur encounter. Both were amazing. Highly recommend.
Nicole Jorgensen — Google review
Great experience to explore with your kids. There are many different kinds of animals which can be found in this zoo. They can be watched from close distance, and even you can buy food to feed them. There are 3 different types of food you can buy at the front desk, for eels, small animals, and big animals. All of them love food.
It is a nocturnal house inside where you can find kiwis. It's slightly dark, and you need to keep silent, but interestingly, you can find kiwis by your naked eyes; there are just right in front.
There is a cafe inside with nice food you can order for adults and kids. Additionally, the car park is also quite spacy.
izzatil isma — Google review
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is lovely. You walk through the park and don't really feel like in a zoo. It is all very interactive and you get to see the animals very close bye. Or even closer if you decide to buy food for them. For us the highlight was clearly the lemur encounter! It was absolutely super cute and a wonderful memory.
Heidi Nigg — Google review
Really nice, interesting wildlife reserve and nicely laid out in a great location. There is a pathway for people to walk on and signs all around the reserve showing the way to different kinds of animals.
As kiwis are rare, they are in a very specific place where you can see some live kiwis.
It is a great place for families and kids to enjoy and on occasions you can feed some animals.
The reserve has many kinds of endangered animals and species and it is a really amazing and wonderful sight. Photos and videos are very popular and there are also guided tours and some programs organised for kids, but you will have to check the website for information.
Prices for entry are quite affordable for singles or families with kids. I would recommend a visit to this wildlife reserve. You don’t have to book in advance.

Stunning place with lots to see and do. We have lived in NZ a few years and I have never been before as it's quite a large cost for a family day out, that being said you can see all the animals are well cared for and I love all the trees and the beautiful walk through the reserve. Very special seeing the kiwi so close that was the highlight for me.
Now that I have been I think I will definitely be back as it is a very special place and well worth it for all the beauty it offers. However it would be nice to have special prices every now and then so that it's a bit more of an affordable day out. We brought our own food and drinks to save on that aspect.
The eel feeding was something unique and something I'm sure we will talk about again :)
The staff were super friendly and facilities well looked after.
Thank you for a beautiful day out in nature, surrounded by trees and enchanted by birdsong.

The animals are so cute! I spent around 3 hours here with my partner and it was great to walk through all the paths and find more animals, the farmyard animals are very gentle with feeding & the geese surprisingly don't go crazy!
They have extras that I will go back to do at some point, but for now, it was definitely a great day out just walking around.

a great combination of native and non-native wildlife plus a farmyard petting zoo, a perfect outing for the whole family. the kiwi house and wood pigeon area offer the closest encounters of anywhere I've ever been, and walking amongst the keas in their habitat was also a highlight. the whole area is set amongst lush forest and bush, which attracts various other visitors, so a good opportunity for birdwatching

Pegasus Bay winery is located in Waipara Valley and offers a divine wine tasting experience. With an extensive wine list, the restaurant serves contemporary NZ cuisine and exquisite paired wines.
What an incredible wine tasting experience, with first class support, information and care provided by Ayla and team. Absolutely enjoyed both the wine and your company today, thank you for looking after us and making our experience one to remember. Phil and Hayley

The estate is absolutely stunning, there is plenty of parking and the cellar door is part of a mansion that overlooks the hills, gardens and ponds below.
The restaurant here is no longer open which is a shame but the wine is still excellent. Tastings provide you with many options of reds and whites, and it’s free if you spend over a certain limit.
Once you’re done with tasting, it’s worth taking a walk in their gardens below, it is amazing and so serene.
Only note is that the tasting room gets very very busy, we only had one person serving more than 10 groups at one point, got a little out of hand where you just get poured your wine and they’re off helping the next customer. Gotta be patient!

Our absolute favourite winery during our NZ trip, for how beautiful it is. We also learnt a lot from the cellar tasting on how they upkeep this garden and the vineyards across the season. Insightful and relaxing time here. Very memorable picnic in their picturesque garden

Very pretty winery with gardens and a beautiful lake, there’re ducks, swans, fish and eels in it.
Love the way food is provided, you need to pick a cute wooden box to collect a variety of wine pairing snacks like prosciutto, cheese, olives, pickles, bread etc. The kitchen also provide several flavors of homemade meat pies, they taste super yum especially the pie crust, very nice bakery!
Pick any indoor or outdoor seats you wish, both are comfortable and relaxing.
Staff are friendly and caring.
The interior design has some wine bottle creations, and I love the wine related quote written on walls, give you lot of feeling and smiles.

Drove all the way down from Christchurch to visit Pegasus Bay for its Riesling wines and wasn't disappointed. They offer a tasting of several wines for about 10 NZD which could also be counted into the purchase of a bottle of wine.
I enjoyed the Riesling wines the most and the late-harvest ones have varying sweetness which makes excellent dessert wines. The Encore was pretty nice, it was richly sweet like honey and leaves a nice lingering sweet aroma, something that is bound to leave an impression. There is also a much lighter version: The Aria if the Encore is too rich.
There is also a garden to stroll around and a deli to chill and relax. The pies by Hope River is pretty delicious. I had the Lamb, Rosemary and Kumara which has nice tender, juicy chunks of lamb and delightful crust. The pricing is reasonable too.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Waipara Hills, a vineyard in Waipara, Canterbury, New Zealand, and I have to say, it was a stunningly beautiful experience. The wines are truly fantastic, with a wide range of varietals to choose from. The flavors were well-balanced, and the prices of bottles were more than reasonable. The real highlight of my visit was the restaurant, which exceeded all of my expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, with a menu that featured a variety of dishes that were expertly prepared. The restaurant truly felt like a 5-star establishment, with a focus on providing a unique experience to patrons. The staff were also top-notch, and they were incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and food. I would highly recommend Waipara Hills to anyone looking for a fantastic wine-tasting experience with delicious food. It's truly a hidden gem in Waipara, Canterbury.

We stopped in on our way back to Christchurch and were lucky enough to get a table for 2. Bookings are recommended. The setting is lovely, the service is really good, absolutely lovely staff. The food is also really good. I had the falafel main, and my husband had the steak sandwich, both of which we enjoyed. The rating is because their wine is not vegan friendly, which is disappointing. They can provide a sparkling rose for vegans, but that's it.

Simply Fantastic !! The glorious setting and the great wine is kind of a given but the brilliant food and world class customer service was a real "surprise and delight " moment.
Right when you walk in you are greeted by a very special woman who knows all about great customer service and that service just continues with the Wait staff and Cashier.
The food is relatively simple but it is cooked and presented with a lot of pride and love.

An absolutely delightful experience! Recommend booking before coming as they get very busy and don’t always take walk ins. Paired the food very nicely with wine and everything came out promptly and tasted very fresh. The location is also stunning!

Great lunch with pretty good service. Enjoyed the share plates of the chicken bao and the pork sliders. Also a very good wine selection as well. Would be best in the summer I reckon to be able to sit outside.

Great place to spend Sunday afternoon , sit in the sun eat great meals and drink fine wines.
Meals are quite large and easily shared, the wine matching is helpful.
I had the mussels and chorizo, great. As was the beef ragout
Friendly staff and no smoking, that I noticed, nearby

A great venue for all sorts of functions. Great atmosphere and superb wines. Enjoy the venue either as a private function or dining out with friends. I am writing this as I am at the venue while listening to good background music and a nice warm comfortable temperature. If you want something uniquely different then give this place a go.
It was a great choice to stop here for lunch. Food was delicious. Service was outstanding. Will be back for sure.

Customer service, not the best on the day. Felt embarrassed and belittled, with my friend wanting to leave immediately. We cycled along the trail. As we walked in, walking our bikes in along the edge of the grass to place against the wine barrels, we were yelled at from the reception area, to take the bikes off the grass and put them outside against the fence. It had been raining. No obvious bike racks. Everyone looking at us. Next faux pas, was not to have a reservation. I said we hadn't made a booking and could we be fitted in. No greeting no response other than to pick up menus and 'follow me, did mention the step down.
Great food menu. Food was first class. Presentation outstanding. Taste was incredible. Paired with the nominated wine. Both agreed the food was delicious but my friend not so keen on returning, due to arrival greeting.

well, what a wonderful place. The setting is beautiful. We sat outside in the garden area. The service was great, and the menu was varied. We ordered the Winery platter for 2 people. YUM. will look fwd. to going back soon to a repeat performance. Thank you for such a lovely Saturday lunch.

Made a last minute booking 2 days before for my mums 70th birthday and given that they had several large tables they were more than accommodating. The wind had picked up so even though I asked to sit outside we were seated inside as they didn’t want us to get hurt by flying umbrellas which worked well and suited us even better. Food was outstanding. We had my 5 year old son with us and the kids platter gave him a little bit of everything which he loved. We had the white wine platter between two and two small glasses of house sav and were not disappointed. Every visit here has been wonderful and the staff are so attentive and polite.

Walked There from our motorhome just after 10am .The staff were fantastic . A family owned business , old school . Andrew was ever so obliging and helpful in coming forward with information about the history of the wine making. Andrew and his family and staff members Nicole, Alex and his father were all part of a well oiled machine. The dinning area was packed , with two Xmas lunches bkd . I try not to get people in the photo's for privacy reasons . There is a large area for parking and out to one side you can park up your motorhome for the night . Behind the top parking area is a wine trail to walk or bike and is very enjoyable .

Fabulous place to visit and dine. The food was amazing and the staff do a fabulous job of welcoming and catering for your needs. We went with a party of 30 people in classic cars and everyone loved the food, wine and atmosphere.

I recently organised a group lunch for our car club. As we were a large group we had to order from a set menu. My only frustration was that we all had to have the same option - so either all order entree/main or all order main/dessert. However, after speaking to the very helpful staff (particularly Tania), who was able to offer some other options, we selected the 3-course lunch menu and I am so pleased we did. The food was amazing - the platters were large and had a great variety of cheeses, meats and spreads (we struggled to finish them). The mains and desserts were also enjoyed by all. The communication from the winery prior to our booking was excellent. Thanks also to Leeann who was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Very nice! We really enjoyed our afternoon tasting time despite bad weather, the place isn’t huge or fancy looking, but surely homey. Their wines taste real special, I especially like the Riesling. Also, very surprised to know about their Gin and Limoncello, both of which are exquisitely delicious. Cheese board are nice and generous in size, and the waxy honey is a great touch.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch with the family for my mother-in-law’s birthday. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon so we sat outside with a view across the fields. Great food with a thoughtfully designed menu & wine selection. Catered for gluten free & options for kids. Lovely, friendly staff & relaxed atmosphere. Easy drive from Christchurch. We will be back again!

Amazing! Some of the best customer service I’ve ever had in NZ! Food was lovely - seafood platter was good value and beautifully presented! Tried a couple of their gins and they were beautifully refreshing. Setting was stunning and they also had a live musician playing who was extremely talented.

We made this stop on a wine tour and found this place to be exceptional. The team members are very friendly and helpful. The service was spectacular. The food was definitely the best we have had during our trip in NZ. The wine was delicious and, even though we cannot transport bottles easily in our luggage, we bought a bottle to enjoy later tonight. I am so glad this winery was on our tour. When they can export to the US, we will investigate having it shipped.

Lovely site for our wedding anniversary (19). was just the two of us with an outside table for lunch, on a beautiful autumn day. Taken to a choice of tables inside or out and order was taken after a suitable period. Wine suggestion was perfect for our choice of lunch starter and main. Both were cooked correctly for us and enjoyed more wine. Moved to a sunnier table later in the day as the sun moved and the wine continued. Perfect spot for a couple or especially group events. A polite and efficient service so thank you. We will be back with friends.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Waipara Springs Winery and Restaurant, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The premises are simply wonderful, with a charming ambiance that perfectly complements the surrounding vineyards. The food surpassed my expectations with its delicious flavors and impeccable presentation. Each dish was expertly crafted using fresh, local ingredients, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. And let's talk about the wine – particularly their Sauvignon Blanc. It was absolutely superb, with its crisp, refreshing taste and delightful aroma. Paired perfectly with the meal, it elevated the dining experience to new heights.Overall, I highly recommend Waipara Springs Winery and Restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. From the picturesque setting to the delectable food and outstanding wine selection, it truly exceeded all my expectations.
I recently rode on the 12 day Tekapo trek (& have previously ridden on a 6 day trek) with Apline Horse Safaris.

Have stopped here many times in the past but has been a couple of years since last here. Your establishment is devoid of all character they staff don't smile or chat and that's from the till down. One young man on today is very polite and the only one smiley, he must be happy in his job. The food was fine, no complaint there. Will be stopping elsewhere on our back through.

Enjoyed the winery tour, lovely people working there, very informative tour.
Recomend it .
Just one comment we bought some of the wine, which is delicious!!
But what is going on with the foil on the top of the bottles?? very poor design i have cut myself twice trying to open the bottle, you have to wedge a knife under the foil and work your way up, reckon you guys need to review that or put a tear tab on it, even then by the thickness of the foil i doubt whether it will still be easy to open.
This is a constructive comment for you.

Well worth a visit. There is no admission charge, just a short nature walk. It is a short drive from the town centre. Clearly marked walking trail with various length and intensity of trail to choose from.

It's not just a forest. It's an experimental exotic plantation a century after it was begun! With a humorously cute sculpture trail to explore.
We loved the walk as a family with a 4yo in tow but it would also have been great on bikes, even for the youngest.

A quick stroll in the forest. We did the 'Forest Amble' track. A quick track rated at 30 minutes that was an easy stroll. We stopped at all the signs and attractions - it took us 50 odd minutes. Great walk. The carvings are very good.

We walked the Sculpture Track and the forest journey and it was a lovely place. The sculpture wall would be great for families and along with he beautiful scenery of the forest you can find the sculptures along your journey. An easy flat track to walk. The journey track is nice for a longer walk.

Super interesting European forest, lots of beautiful walks, right next to freedom camping sites, with DOC facilities nearby. The sculptures are beautifully done. Its a shame they dont do a very good job of representing NZ wildlife. Just possums and squirrels and rats?? What on earth where they thinking?? Like the craftsmanship is fantastic but where is the pride of kiwi animals? It did have fantails and tuatara which was why I gave this 4 stars.

100 Jollies Pass Road, Hanmer Springs 7395, New Zealand
Lewis Pass, located in the South Island of New Zealand, is a historic mountain road that winds through a natural reserve area, offering breathtaking scenic views and a variety of trails for outdoor enthusiasts. The pass serves as an alternative route between the northern part of the island and Christchurch. Travelers can experience diverse landscapes including alpine hills, open valleys, and dense beech forests along this route.
We came across this pass while on route to the Western part of the island. We stopped for a short coffee stop and had a medium to short walk during our visit. I remember this place had some magnificent views and sure ones to not pass when in the neighborhood. Beautiful place overall.

Take this pass to get to the west coast instead of Arthur’s if you are towing a trailer or don’t have chains. But check on the NZTA website to make sure the pass is open before you hit the road. Road is in good condition though and the pass is not as steep as Arthur’s.

My family and I did the Arnold Family Raft 1/2 Day Tour with Nathan and it exceeded all expectations.
It was my children's (11, 10 and 6 years) first exposure to white water rafting and it was perfect. Nathan was so clear on what to expect and made it fun for the whole family. He regularly checked in with the kids to make sure they felt comfortable and we all had a blast.
Nathan took us rafting, let us go for a dip in the water and even fed us and gave us a warm drink at the end of the day.
Would highly recommend Inland Adventures.

Just returned from an awesome 4 days rafting the Waiau River with Nathan (AKA Reefton), Simon (AKA Chunk) and Samson, Quinn and Bree as our guides. What a team they made! So much experience being shared with younger, newer guides = great to watch. It was a super adventure down a truly stunning part of S Island. The journey was full of amazing views, gorges, rapids, mountains and a few surprises. The food was really delicious (& plentiful). We felt safe, valued and entertained throughout the full 4 days and would highly recommend this expedition for any adventurous travellers. Thanks Nathan et al.

We took the 1 day grey wilderness rafting tour a few days ago. My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time! The rapids were fun but not scary or too strenuous. Nathan prepares a delicious "create your own" sandwich spread and takes pictures periodically on the trip. We got to swim a bit in the water as well where it was calm. A++ would recommend to anyone looking to connect with nature more on the South Island.

I had a great day's rafting with Nathan. He's an excellent guide, interesting to chat to, very experienced and knowledgeable. He collected me from outside the Ikamatu hotel bang on time and we drove to the entry point for the river. Once there we put on the wetsuits, boots, helmet and flotation aid before carrying the boat to the river, a few minutes away. Nathan gave a very good safety brief along with paddling instructions.
The time on the water was just right and the mix of excitement through rapids was balanced by stretches of calm. I've rafted elsewhere and it can be exhausting, this wasn't but that didn't detract from a great day out.
Thanks Nathan. 👍

Locally run by bearded volunteers. This little living museum is a tribute to days gone by in Reefton. These dedicated men have put together a working replica of a little mining hut. They work and play around the hut and are very knowledgeable about the gold mining era.
When we were there we we're offered scones made in a cast iron pot over a coal fire.... Beautiful flavour!
This is a free museum with a donation box if you choose.

Great locals run this museum, to recount mining in Reefton and local area. With hands on panning available and a wealth of facts about the local mining operations it is a great place to check out.
Make sure you drop in a donation on your way out to keep this local knowledge open for everyone that comes through the town.

A must see when visiting Reefton. The volunteers have vast local knowledge to share and are entertaining story tellers. Our 3 boys where even shown several magic tricks. The replica miner's hut is very authentic.
Amazing hike through magical beech forrest, stunning ridge lines and mountainsides. The hut facilities were above expectations and toilets well maintained and clean (love composting ones!). Well graded trails for walking just be mindful of mountain bikers approaching. Two semi fit 70+ year olds we took enjoyed it! Lots of water along track depending on recent rains. $160 pp for up to 4 nights, bunk rooms vary by hut but everyone very welcoming and shared cooking facilities. Even a trickle shower available. Outdoor sleep outs good option for family or couples but not heated/no cooking - can use main hut facilities!

Superb walk, easy grades, spectacular exposure and great views. Excellent huts with lots of interesting points all through the hike. Great achievement to put this track through pristine country. It's a long walk but as it's built for bikes it's easy going.
Steve Warne — Google review
This is a sensational track – to walk or cycle. They have done an immense job to create a proper track over the entire 85km. This is fantasy back country stuff. Not just orange stickers nailed to trees, but dynamite and diggers and aggregate. The track is so well graded for cyclists that walkers stride up hill, barely noticing the climb. The huts are beautifully positioned and very well equipped – there are even bush showers. Each day has its own interest; 1st – Rising through beech woods, 2nd – ridge above the tree line, 3rd – skyline ridge (and the steps), 4th Boneyard (1929 earthquake carnage), and 5th – Mokihinui Gorge. I walked it in five days and will be back to cycle it in two, though there are other more heroic options.
Ashley Mooney — Google review
AMAZING HIKE!!
The history of the track is just awesome! (You can read the all story in a very interesting book available in each hut)
The huts are perfect, always in incredible spots, comfy, fully furnished (fireplace, gaz stove, cutellery, pots and pans, thick matresses, compostable toilets...)
Well worth the 160$!
Some sections are harder than others but it's not too challenging.
You can decide to hike or to bike this road, you'll find good atmosphere every evening joining all the trampers/bikers! 😊
That was fantastic!
Thank you!! 😃

I'd recommend taking 3 days to ride the length of the trail. This will allow you plenty of photo opportunities! Trail is in great condition, with only a few places where it is difficult. Trail difficulty is intermediate with a few advanced sections, the most difficult section is between Ghost Lake hut and Skyline Steps

You'll be hard pressed to find 85km of anything this amazing!!
Old Ghost is the result of many thousands of hours spent by local men and woman punching the mountains until they yielded a trail.
And what a trail!!
Whether running, biking or trekking, few trails offer such varied scenery on such a manicured surface.
It's with good reason that the huts are booked out many months in advance.
I highly recommend checking out the trail in one day at the Old Ghost Road Ultra. Simply magic.

A great 5 1/2 hour ride up to highest point (Heavens Door) and back out to Lyell with a lunch break at Lyell Saddle hut
Don't forget to make a donation to the hard working track maintenance team fund if you are just doing a day trip and avoid paying hut fees. A fine snapshot of NZ native bush and high country scenery with some cool mountain bike track to boot
Buller Gorge Swing Bridge is located in the Upper Buller Scenic Reserve, 14 kilometers west of Murchison, New Zealand. It is the country's longest swing bridge at 110 meters in length and spans the Buller River. The bridge is part of an adventure park offering activities such as zip lining and boat trips. Visitors can enjoy a thrilling walk across the bouncy and narrow bridge, with the option to return via a zip line.
This place was awesome. My husband chicken out because he's afraid of heights bouncy bridges, bridges made out of thick wire mesh and very narrow bridges. If you are afraid of all four, don't go. This is a bridge that you "cannot close your eyes when you are crossing it !!" You need both eyes open and free hands to hold the railings to walk across. I was lucky that I was the only one crossing the bridge that day because it was raining and cold 🥶. You can either walk back or use a zip line to get back. I walked. Entry fee is NZD 10 per pax I think. There's a nature walk to experience the surrounding area but I skipped it because my husband was waiting for me at the entrance. A must visit..

Liked this place cause I love swing bridges and this was a long one. We did a Loop Walk and saw how much damage has been done by recent storms. Lovely walk and went back across swing bridge. Was a short zip line you could do across but hey, it's a swing bridge.

I am not sure about prices for kids. $5 no matter of child's age seems little bit dodgy. Most of the attraction like this are usually for free or half price up to 5years old.
Bridge was good fun but happy it wasn't busy. Bush walk 15minutes took us approx 7minutes. Beautiful views on river.
To be honest not sure if I would pay again for it.

Entrance cost is 12.50 per person. Which is not cheap considering that the walks on the other side are nice but not mindblowing. There is parking and its free.
If you have time make sure to stop anyway. The bridge is very cool and it’s definitely an experience to walk across.

We had a great time, gold panning entertained the children and adults for quite some time. Lots of informative history on the walk and the kids loved the comet line. Watch our video on TikTok by searching @centralfmchb

Quite expensive for what it is! We did the walk across the bridge, walk around the property, and the zipline back, which was about 15 seconds of flight (that's a generous amount).
The end of the zipline where it braces your impact is quite a loud noise, just be aware.
We have a top 10 membership that we could have used to save some money but didn't realize we could use it here unfortunately.
The walk was fine, and the unique part of that was the climb down to a beach you where there was some brilliant white rocks half in the water you could climb. and the deep fault-line walk was neat!
Pretty views on the bridge.

Despite my fear of heights I was encouraged by staff and managed to overcome my fears and enjoy the bridge crossing and walks on the other side. Coming back I was more confident. Recommend to one and all

Nice little spot to visit. Swing bridge was great fun. Zip line a little pricey

Longest swing bridge in NZ. It's much fun, especially for a family. A beautiful brisk walk through the natural wood. It's definitely a must!

It was a bit scary going over the swing bridge in pouring rain, thunder and lightning. But we lived to tell the tale. We didn't spend too long on the walks due to weather conditions, but still had a great time. The Buller River was in fine, fast flow.

Buller Gorge Swingbridge Adventure and Heritage Park is a must-do for everyone. We walked across New Zealand's longest swingbridge, did some hiking, and rode the Comet Line and Supaman ride on our way back. Far out.

Riding through the Buller Gorge on a motorbike is on of life's epic events right up until you get stung by a bee on the back of your neck.. I eventually pulled into the swing bridge site to see if I could grab a plaster as the swelling from the sting was rubbing. All the staff there were nothing short of amazing. Antihistamines were offered and taken. I paid to go for a wander and have a drink and chat with the guys there. Amazing place. Gorgeous venue and people. Thanks guys for your help.
Shaun Minifie — Google review
An incredible experience that I can't believe I nearly missed! The entry, which is around $12 per adult, $5 per child, is well worth the experience of walking across the swing bridge. The views are absolutely amazing, and despite it being a daunting experience, I felt safe the full trip.
As I simply discovered the place while driving down the West Coast, I couldn't spend much time there, and I was very ill equipped. I crossed the bridge in my high heels! I'd recommend coming prepared - with sensible shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, and water. The tracks can be slippery, but manageable. I did the gold panning experience and though I had to really rush through it we still managed to find gold and the guide was really informative and helpful! If in the area I would DEFINITELY come back and do all the full experiences! Also a great way to conquer your fears!

A not be missed experience for young and old. Absolutely stunning views of Buller Gorge if you are brave enough to take a photo on the bridge. Friendly staff and clean amenities.

$13 entry for a walk over the bridge, 15min trail in the forest (20min other trail add ons). Various fox slide variations you can do up to $70.

Great experience, not too fond of heights but the bridge felt safe and the view was worth it. The 15 min round track was really cool. Great river views. Husband did the ride.

Fantastic jet boat ride on the buller river. Mark was great fun and really went all out to give us an exciting ride. So so good. Excellent value for money too with 40 mins on the river and plenty of spins and close calls with the gorge walls. He also gave interesting stories about the river and area. I highly recommend this! Thank you for a great time!

Had an amazing trip on the Buller with Mark. He was such a good host and guide. Never done jet boating before and not sure we’ll ever top this one as it’s a stunningly beautiful place. Thank you for an amazing afternoon Mark.

Awesome trip with Mark who made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. Really informative and well worth doing the trip be prepared to get wet and have fun

This was shut the front door fun, Mark is the best operator in New Zealand, smaller boat than in Queenstown but more crazy, more professional and much much much more adventurous. You get your bang for the buck and then some.
I can't stress this enough, this is the BEST one and I highly recommend everyone to go here and enjoy it. We did others as well but this one... OMG, the speed, the thrill! Thank you Mark for really putting the F in fun for us 🤣 A 360° greeting from the Public Speaker from Sweden with special request 🤣

Have rode Shotover in Queenstown but this was miles better. Excellent 'Driver' and amusingly commentary. Suspension Bridge just added to the overall experience.
Looking forward to returning sometime soon.

We stopped here on the drive to Westport, and were so glad we did. There was a swing bridge going across the buller river, different walks to go on ,long or short, interesting things to look at for all ages. A zip wire ride, and best of all there was Marc with his Jet boat, what an incredible experience up and down the river, through the Rapids. Marc was an amazing character and really made the trip. Not the cheapest thing to do but well worth the money.

We had a fantastic time with Mark on the river. The scenery is stunning and actual ride is so much fun.
Mark is knowledgeable and his commentary was great, he is hilarious!.
And on a personal note, I want to thank Mark for his patience, support and kindness when dealing with myself getting on and off the boat when I was having difficulties with my legs, truly appreciate it. Such a gentleman.
100% recommend this trip.!!!!!
Thanks, Alisa, Rod and Sam.

My Husband and I had a spectacular time with on the jet boat. Mark, our driver went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. We wanted to take photos and videos, so Mark was very clear at communicating when was an appropriate time to video/ take a photo and when it was best to put the camera away to ensure we held on for some 360 spins. Highly recommend Buller Canyon Jet Boating. While there you can also experience the Bulla Canyon Swing Bridge. Thanks Bulla Jet Boat company and Mark for a wonderful day it is truly a holiday highlight.

Thanks for the awesome experience
We learnt that the company is under the new management and that we were their first customers. We're so happy that we did this awesome experience with them. We're grateful that Sonny and his friends were very accommodating despite booking with them few days before our preferred date. The communication was good, instructions were very clear and we were well taken care off, given that most of us doesn't have any experience with rafting. We had calm, chatting moments and some mouth dropping encounter with the rapids. We ended up the experience with some yummy treats that they've provided. And also the pictures that they captured were so cool and they even sent the copies just few hours after the rafting. Highly recommended! 👍

Booked on for the 1.30 afternoon rafting trip. Our guide, Jaren was great. Super friendly and welcoming and gave us loads of local knowledge about the river. Instructions were clear and made it really enjoyable, even for the slightly nervous adventurer. Holly took some great photos of the trip and her banana and chocolate cake which we had at the end of the day was superb!

We didn’t do the family trip, but the full one. We had a nice young “apprentice” guide and an experienced one as a supervisor. 5 guests on the boat. We had to reschedule on short notice and that was very easy. You have to do some paddling yourself (as usual). The gear was in good condition. The shoes however open themselves a bit with a chance to loose them. I enjoyed having free photos (a link to a file repository was sent on the next day). Everyone was nice, fun and professional. The scenery was very beautiful. The rafting itself was great, there were several good rapids.if you want to get completely soaked go to the front. I loved it. On 2 occasions we had the opportunity to jump from the cliffs. In one case it was right into the white water after a major rapid. The other was calm, but the cliff is higher. Super fun! There was coffee and cake afterwards.

I would highly recommend Ultimate Descent for white water rafting. Sonny provided an exceptional experience down the rapids and Jono captured these moments with awesome photos!

This trip was something special. The guys made us feel like we were friends and almost ""family".
We were the only two clients that day, but they bought along another raft to train one of the guides, Quinn. There was lots of laughing and banter between the rafts.
They took us on an upper stretch of the Buller River that they rarely paddle on with clients, but that made it so much more special to us. We went on a smaller sporty raft with Jared which at the biggest rapid did flip, but that was a load of fun anyway.
After coming off the river, we sat round having a beer and cake with more laughter and banter. They even gave us recommendations of things to see and do on our journey further south. Local knowledge can be really valuable and it was so worth it.
This company was so much better than some of those companies that deal with mass numbers of clients rafting trips. At Ultimate Descents we were people whom they took a lot of care of. Top class morning of rafting!

Great team, great experience! Good mix between calm floating and chatting and current rides. Highlight: Jumping from the rocks just behind a fall into the river and floating with the current - priceless! January 2020.

My kids had a great time rafting. Although the water was low when we went, the rapids were still fast and exciting as they revealed more rocks. This means that you can go at any time of the year. The staff were also friendly and fun to be around. My teenage boys started off as beginners with no prior experience in rafting but the Grade 3 Buller River rapids were exciting and with guidance from Nathan and his team they had a really good time. Jumping off a high rock into the water and rafting across the bigger rapids were the highlights of the trip.
Would definitely reccommend commend this and I am looking forward to letting my kids try this again in the future.

Happy Chinese New Year! We had a fun time rafting and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you to Nathan and the rest of the staff for providing a very enjoyable experience. Although the water was low, the rapids was still fast and exciting because the drops got steeper and the rocks rose up.

These guys are great. Very professional and nice. We did the buller gorge rafting (160$) and it took about three and a half hours, but it could have been shorter, because we took our time. The river was quiet most of the time with only a few rough patches, but this was ok and to be expected. They give you exact and reliable information.

Maria, who was our guide on our overnight trip (down the Waimakariri river) was exceptional. Great yarns all round, good river safety and made the trip super fun for the kids (especially the one she threw overboard, he loved it). I cannot stress this enough: she probably deserves a raise. Ten outa ten would do again!

Not just a rafting trip. The years of experience and knowledge of the area was a history lesson too. Our guide Jaron was quick to put the nerves at ease and made our first rafting trip an awesome adventure that we all walked away wanting to do more. Our boys( 12 & 14 yrs) are still talking about the EPIC jump off the rocks into the water. We are already planning when we will be back for a multi day trip. Sweet as Bro

These guys ran an excellent white water rafting tour for me and my two mates. All gear and equipment was provided, and we had an awesome time rafting down the Buller with our amazing guide Jaren. Even with zero experience, we were shown the ropes and got used to rafting pretty quickly. The rafting was fun and exhilarating and the (optional) cliff jump at the end an exciting way to finish. Muz took some amazing photos too which we got to take home for free!

Absolutely awesome! Five amazing days rafting down the Clarence River, lots of swimming and fun, even the camping! The guides (led by the indefatigable Frosty), were wonderful and they can cook as well as they can raft - aided by Ruth's amazing baking and Chunk's untiring sense-of-humour (seriously how hard is it to spot a goat!). I really can't recommend this trip enough, especially with family and friends! So go book it!

We had a fantastic experience on the grade 3 Buller river section. Our guides Samson, Rata, and Quinn were very competent knowledgeable, and friendly. We made a detour to Ultimate Descent for the kids (age 11 and 13) to enjoy the rafting. Went through a few grade 3 rapids.
The guide Shania was very clear with her instructions. We also had the benefit of watching Tim assessing a guide for NZ rafting certification.
Well worth the detour. The teenagers thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted more !
Booking was easy. Checked in smooth. Our camper was plug at riverside Holiday park while on the trip.
Highly recommended !
Lake Rotoroa is a stunning alpine lake located in Nelson Lakes National Park, just 90 kilometers from Nelson. It's a popular spot for picnics and boating, as well as the starting point for various treks, including the Travers-Sabine Track. Visitors can enjoy activities like canoeing and hiking while taking in the picturesque scenery. However, some caution is advised due to the presence of wasps in the area.
Very nice picturesque lake. Canoed the length of this lake acquiring a very sore backside and stayed in the D'Urville Hut at the top end. What was very concerning at the time however was the population of wasps in the bush. The bush was absolutely rancid with them and in the heat they could be quite bad tempered.
The native bird life and insect life must be extremely stressed. Very bad scenario happening here with the wasps at plague proportions.
Seriously needs dealt with.
Gerard McCall — Google review
Absolutely beautiful spot. Very similar vibe to nearby Lake Rotoiti. However unlike Lake Rotoiti, it's a sandy lake rather than rocky. That might make Rotoroa it slightly nicer to swim in for some (both are pretty cold even in the summer though!).
The sandiness and waterfront vegetation at Rotoroa meant that when we visited (summer, on a sunny day) there were a ton of sandflies/midges, which were pretty unpleasant to deal with.
A couple of nice walks available but the path to one of them was not easily accessible due to surface flooding from recent rains.

I couldn’t appreciate the lake due to the amount of sandflies I encountered the moment I stepped out of my car. Wanted to walk one of the tracks but changed my mind after having multiple sandfly bites within 5 minutes of reaching the lake.
Clare Sim — Google review
Feb 2020. A just adequate campsite with short walk needed to reach the toilets. Extreme nuisance from sandflys (blackfly), and many wasps in the upper canopy. However bush walks were thankfully free of sandflies (but not wasps). Lake is lovely for kayaking (and free of sandflies). Water Taxi available (for a fee) for transport to and from opposite end of lake. Spot the huge eels (protected species) from the jetty at dusk.

I was there on a Monday so not many people there, which mean no queueing for the tows.

We camped at the DOC campground next to the Lake Rotoiti Wharf recently. Incredible views, so serene with a number of walks nearby for better views of the lake. There are several campground locations here, with really good amenities at all, this one had flushing toilets, a shower block (cold showers), playground, rubbish disposal area and kitchen block. We considered it glamping with how great the amenities were. Highly recommend staying here, its popular so book in advance if you can, about an hour or so from Nelson.

We had an absolutely idyllic day in the Abel Tasman. Sailing along the coastline is a totally relaxing experience with the breeze in your hair and just the sound of the water lapping against the hull. We had time on shore so we could go for several swims and have a wander through the bush. The pace was relaxed, giving us the flexibility to explore the coastline and make the most of the changing tides. The scenery is just magic - photos don't do justice to the incredible colours and the clearest water you can imagine. Martin is a great skipper, giving interesting info about the history and geography of the area, but also just allowing us to absorb it all quietly too. The whole day was a fantastic way to catch up with friends in the most beautiful surroundings - active and ourdoorsey but super relaxing too. I loved the serenity of this journey, powered mostly by the wind and knowing we were being gentle on the planet.

Our work had our Christmas Party on one of the catamarans. Our expectations were blown away, we couldn’t have faulted any part of the experience. What a beautiful way to end the year with our work team. My wee two-year-old loved it too, and was even allowed to steer the boat at one point – what a cool thing to experience.
Special mention to the boat skipper and his boat hand who were so hands on with organising the food, keeping us relaxed, and becoming a part of our little team. They were incredible.
I couldn't recommend this experience more to anyone thinking about booking. Hoping to be lucky enough to do it again!

We were also allowed to take champagne on the trip so we got to relax as we sailed sipping champagne and enjoying the sun. The catamaran was stunning and very clean. Our transfer back was also effortless and all the way through, Abel Tasman Sailing was very professional and down to earth. I highly recommend if you have the opportunity to enjoy the Abel Tasman, a sailing trip with this company is a must.

Best way to experience the coastline of Abel Tasman. Beach time, water time and plenty of time to lay back and enjoy the exceptional views! Served lunch as amazing, my sandwich devoured. Crew was lively and excited to share with everyone on the boat.

Great day out - we did the full sailing day, with a fun, informative commentary. We
saw lots of fur seals, some small blue penguins and, best of all, a pod of about 50 dolphins, which played (twice during the day) around the yacht for about 30 mins. Thanks Claudia and Mark for such a memorable day.

Such a great ride to Anchorage Bay! The views are amazing, got to see a blue penguin and plenty of baby fur seals learning how to swim! The ride was amazing to be able to hike part of the Abel Tasman Coast Track in just a few hours.

Such a fun day! Do not miss a full day sail with them. Nick was such a highlight of our trip. He was engaging, interactive, and you can tell he truly loves his job. The only thing missing was some music!

The Full Day Cruise was an incredible way to experience Abel Tasman in just one day. It was so cool to be able to cruise around the park and pop into smaller bays and get up close to seals and dolphins. We also got off several times to do some short walks which mixed up the day quite a bit. Plus we had plenty of time to just relax on board and take it all in. Martin was a top-notch skipper with a head full of interesting and unique Abel Tasman knowledge plus decades of sailing experience. Jane-Maree and Tui provided wonderful customer service from start to finish. Thanks for an unforgettable day!

We had an amazing day out on one of Sailing Adventures combined Kayak, Stroll and Sailing trips. From being collected to take us to the starting point for the kayaking, to stepping off the catamaran at the end off the day, their staff could not have done any more to make our day special. The kayaking took us up the coast close to the rocks and beautiful sandy bays and the instructor told us all about the rock formations, plant habitation and pointed out the various birds nests clinging to rocks and over hanging trees. They even provided hot drinks for us while having a stop at a small inland lagoon we had kayaked into. We were then dropped off at a secluded beach from where we walked over the headland to the beautiful Anchorage Bay where we joined the catamaran. Packed lunch and hot drinks later, we motored out of the bay via some small islands to see seals basking in the sun before sailing further out to sea where we were joined by about 40 dolphins who spent about 30 minutes darting around the hulls of the catamaran posing for the cameras. A truly memorable day. 5 Stars to SA. John Davis - UK.

I booked a Nelson Harbour 4 hour cruise for a Hens party/Bachelorette and it truly exceeded our expectations. Martin was a fantastic skipper, and everyone said it was the highlight of the weekend. Highly recommend and will be back! Thanks so much team - super appreciative of the efforts and putting up with 17 ladies! ☺️

Went on tour #6 with Wilsons Abel Tasman last Monday and it was perfect! The boat ride was very nice and they even stopped to watch the seals and split apple rock! Would recommend

An absolute highlight day of our trip to NZ. You absolutely must go. The stunning beaches and hiking in between each beach we visited was absolutely breathtaking and Wilsons boats make this water accessible only trip the easiest way to visit with excellent and super efficient options to be dropped off wherever you decide so you can customize your day to suit your needs. We also bought a picnic lunch on a bag from them and it was perfect for enjoying on one of the stunning beaches ma we stopped at. I will forever remember this magical day.

We did the seal walk which was fantastic. The trip out was great, well organised, efficient and informative. The actual walk etc was perfect.
The trip back was a bit frustrating. We were held up at one of the pick up points for about 20 min. It was hot, not many people wearing masks, and lots of noisy uncontrolled children. My advice would be to take a jumper that allows to sit outside regardless of how cold the wind is.

This is a must do attraction if yours in the area! They have 3hr, half day, full day, or multi day trips! You can walk the track and glamp at one of their lodges (my inlaws did that and LOVED it) — they pack all your gear to the next stop for you so you can just enjoy the walk!
We did the half day trip to Anchorage Bay, and just hung out on the beach with the kids. It was a magical place, and the water was perfect temp and gorgeous turquoise color.
There isn’t a lot of shade on the beach so plan accordingly! Be sure to explore around, and we heard there are a couple short hikes around, including up to the rock pools! 😉

Probably the greatest tourist attraction I've visited in NZ (and I'm from NZ). You will see the most beautiful beaches and scenery in the world. Wilson's was an excellent way to see and experience these great sights.

My partner and I did the full day kayaking trip and this was the highlight of our trip. Seeing the national park from this angle is incredible and you get to go to gorgeous bays and lagoons that you otherwise wouldn't. Our guide Doc was awesome - super knowledgeable, really lovely and honestly made the trip a thousand times better!

Great trip, beautiful day, calm seas. The walk took just over an hour, steepish hills up at beginning and equally steep on the down hill side. (Tonga Quarry to Medlands Beach)

Wilson provides a fabulous variety of cruises and trips to allow you to enjoy exploring the beautiful Abel Tasman. You can choose whatever trip you want that suits your travel plans and / or fitness level. The staff are informative, and friendlt. If you are lucky enough to see dolphins (which we were) on your cruise, they will stop the boat to allow you to enjoy the view and photograph the experience. An absolute must to do if you want to explore this region.

We did the 3 day southbound walk in mid-November 2023 and absolutely loved it! A great boat ride to Totaranui and 3 days of walking through the park, with luxurious lodges and delicious meals. I can't recommend this trip highly enough. And if you aren't keen to walk the whole way, you can kayak days 2 and 3, which is also spectacular. if you haven't got 3 days to spare, do a day trip with Wilsons instead, mixed walking and kayaking.
Thank you Wilsons, this was a real bucket-list trip.

Sam is an incredible kayak guide. His knowledge of the Abel Tasman National Park is thorough and so interesting. We loved the way he told the stories. He has a keen eye and was able to point out the unique birds around Adele island and the seals hiding in rocky outcrops. He had great kayaking technique tios and we felt very safe in his care.

Wilsons offer an excellent water taxi transfer service to multiple locations along the Abel Tasman National Park coastline. We loved our Anchorage / Pitt Head day walk. The tide was out at Torrent Bay so a tender transferred walkers to the Wilson’s boat for their return to Kaiteriteri.

We really enjoyed kayaking to Split Apple Rock and back by ourselves for 3 hours. We had time for lunch on the beach and a swim. It is such a beautiful place. The young girl who gave us our safety briefing was very helpful, thorough and kind.

We had a fantastic day with Kaiteriteri Kayak. From the easy booking to the tour, bush walk and half day paddle it was great. We really enjoyed our paddle with Hannah our guide. Hannah was very informative with local information and shared local lore. We enjoyed afternoon tea and exploring the rocks.

Kaiteriteri Kayak Adventures was one of the most exciting, comfortable, safe, and beautiful kayaking expeditions that I have participated in to this day!! Aaron and Sharon were such a powerhouse of tour-guides! They made sure to check-in with the group to ensure everyone felt safe, and the lunch they provided for us was delicious. The tour guides were SO knowledgeable, and truly made our Honeymoon so memorable!
Cannot wait to come back again, and would HIGHLY recommend the Heart of the Park experience!

I did the kayak tour from anchorage to kaiteriteri and it was just incredible!!
First I was worried, because I maybe kayaked 2 times before and came alone, but it wasn’t too difficult & I felt safe at all times! (I just kayaked with the guide)
The kayaking itself was just fun! We went to several caves and beaches, took our time and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery with lots of wildlife and information provided by our guide!
We even sailed back together, which was just totally fun!
Would totally do it again, it’s the best way to experience the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park! :)

Fantastic day trip on a calm sunny day. Private guided trip laid on for us because we had 4 kids, two very young (6). Sarah was amazing and patient. Kayaks in very good condition, altogether a wonderful day out.

Kaiteriteri Kayak is a nice company that brings you guided tours along the coast of Abel Tasman national park. They offer half day and full day tours with the option to walk a part of the way back through the park with great sightings into the bays and the second part with the kayak. We enjoyed it very much!!
