How long is the drive from Armidale to Stanthorpe?
The direct drive from Armidale to Stanthorpe is 153 mi (246 km), and should have a drive time of 3 hrs 20 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Armidale to Stanthorpe, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Hillgrove and New England Regional Art Museum, or the ever-popular Saumarez Homestead.
The top stops along the way from Armidale to Stanthorpe (with short detours) are Suttons Juice Factory, Girraween National Park, and Australian Standing Stones. Other popular stops include Tenterfield Railway Museum, Saumarez Homestead, and Wollomombi Falls Picnic Area.
There's a story here set in a beautiful family home. Original furnishings. Large residence of the period and well maintained. The tour was of the home and the Saumarez family. Although it wasn't included it would have been good to see the servants quarters and how the home functioned.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. Our guide was so informative and there was so much history to take in. Mary's garden was delightful too. Great place for a picnic.

Our guide Penelope was fantastic! We got a lovely tour of the house and got an invite to what it would have been like to live here in the late 1800's through the 1900's

Only got to do the garden today, am very impressed indeed.
I had a fall on a spot where water has run and made a trench.
Very happy to such beautiful old plants.

100-year old place with interesting history. Highly recommend the guided tour as you need to go inside to learn the whole history. If you are in the New England region, you must visit this place!

Such a wonderful tour here, what amazing history and overall such a pleasant way to spend the afternoon in Armidale.
I would definitely recommend this tour if you are visiting Armidale!!! ❤️
Beatrice Arabella Henzell — Google review
While the homestead could have some restoration dollars spent on it and the garden definately needs work, this is an extraordinary time capsule of a wealthy but parsimonious (read Presbyterian) family's home life.
Not to be missed by any visitor to Armidale. The house is only accessible by guided 1.5 hour tour but it is worth the time and the $12.00
The White family handed it (and the 20 odd acres it sits on) over to the National Trust and left. Everything was left behind, even the spectacular silver hair brushes, books, family pictures and family Bible.
Didn't have time to get down to the farming sheds but assume that is equally interesting.
Don't miss it. If you want to see the gardens and farming sheds and are going for the 3.30pm tour, make sure you arrive at least an hour beforehand to do so. No time after the tour.

The gardens at Saumarez are amazing, especially Mary's, which is maintained by Jarrod the friendly gardner.
Inside the house is a time capsule full of significant historical masterpieces of its time, and Lez the property manager was a warm-hearted welcoming man with extensive knowledge. If you love exquisite antiques, ambience, bygone architecture and the highest standard of customer service, then this estate is not to be missed whilst visiting Armidale !!!

Stunning Edwardian NTrust house filled the White family's original furniture & posessions. A wonderful place where you can step back in time and learn a bit of local history from the knowledgeable tour guides. You can also wander around the extensive grounds.

Great piece of Australian history preserved. Congratulations to all the volunteers. A photographers paradise would love to see it in the spring.
Hillgrove is a Northern Tablelands historic goldmining town, now a village with a population of about 95. The village lies about 30 km east of Armidale and 5 km south of the Waterfall Way, at an elevation of 1,000 m on a granite plateau above Bakers Creek, near the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Really nice little gallery. The lady at the counter was super nice and knowledgeable. Great selection of gifts and souvenirs by the locals.

Such a lovely free regional Gallery! I visited with my sister and was greeted by the front of house staff. She was warm and welcoming. The exhibitions on show were historical, dynamic, and humorous! Displayed beautifully. Thank you for making art accessible to the regional community.

Different exhibitions along with the Hinton collection. Staff helpful and friendly. Noting high quantities cannot be purchased or held in the shop, variety of larger prints to be purchased of the Hinton collection would be great OR from a reputable Australian printer. Rather than having to order from 1000 museums.com in USA, on this occasion for the print wanted nearly $100 USD postage and I live in Armidale . Six counties lovely coffee and great variety of food
Karen Freeman — Google review
Nice museum with quality artwork, good ambience, and an enjoyable cafe attached for after your visit. And of course a gift shop, with interesting artifacts and prints. This visit they had an exhibit from the collection of Howard Hilton featuring very interesting paintings of Australian and International topics, a Ken Done exhibition, plus assorted contemporary works including some amazing water colours. Entrance is free, and you can make a donation by tap-and-go to support the museum. Also check out the various sculptures spread outside the museum and cafe!

This is a great attraction for Armidale, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety of the museum artwork.
The staff were welcoming and helpful. For kids they have activities such as a artwork treasure hunt.
The gift shop sold high quality goods. We purchased a couple of items.
The Cafe on site was also worth a visit, our food was delicious and sitting outside amongst the trees in the courtyard was relaxing and enjoyable.
Highly recommended.

Such a nice local art gallery. Perfectly organized, it has a very nice feel to it, and a coffee shop to seal the deal. And very helpful staff.
Thank you very much for such a great experience.

There was an event being held so we couldn't see all the exhibitions. The lady at the front desk was so nice and explained everything before. We still left a donation and saw the rest. We liked the exhibition with the food paintings, not the best when you are hungry. They look so real. Woukd definetly go another time to see what we have miassed. Quiet a few parking spaces on the road. We found 2 to park with a trailer.

Terrific gallery. Lovely welcome. Wonderful permanent collection and interesting visiting exhibitions. Very fortunate to have the significant Hinton collection with many Streetons. Make sure to visit the printing museum underneath too.
You just HAVE to go on the free (donations accepted) bus tour - starts at 10am from the visitor centre, but get there 15 minutes earlier to book your place,
Carolyn was an amazing tour guide, giving us lots of really good information and gave a great running commentary. Norm our driver / tour guide backed up Carolyn with other useful information and gave us a great tour of Boomloominbah House.
In the visitor centre itself, really friendly staff and lots of relevant information.

The ladies in the Centre were very helpful. We did the guided tour the following day. Norm the driver and John the guide gave us such a wonderful incite into the heritage of Armidale. It is a very unique tour that should be on top of the list for all visitors to Armidale. Highly recommended.

One of the best visitors info centers that we have been to on the east coast.
Great range of local and interstate maps including the top of the line Hema maps. Very comprehensive amount of info regarding local points of interest and local restaurants.
The venue manager. Kath is so incredibly helpful and passionate about what she does.
Highly recommended.

The Armidale Visitors Centre really is a must! We were warmly greeted by Faye, who has lived in Armidale for a very long time as we found out, and who is a wealth of information in and around the area. The experience was very much like discovering treasure with what we were provided. Not just on what to see but the history as well. We were able to tailor our own touring experience with the information provided and can not thank Faye enough! I heard locally about the council possibly replacing people in the information centre with machines. I hope this never happens. We have had experiences with information machines, they never give you exactly what your looking for, they can't tell you about the treasures you might be interested in but don't know there there, or which way to go to get the maximum visits in areas depending on when they are open. Faye made it a breeze, and we will have to come back as there was far too much to do and see in one day. Thank you again for the experience, education, information, and your warm, friendly nature Faye, you are a gem!
Gaye Carney — Google review
The staff were fantastic and helpful; they helped with my request and asked if I wouldn't hesitate to return.
Malcolm Dryden — Google review
Not the best visitor info centre I've been to not the worst either. The fellow who served us had a lot to say we just did not need that information. Could not tell us about times and stops for local bus. Considering Armidale was celebrating the Autumn Festival there was not a lot available about related events.
Stephen Mawson — Google review
Toilets locked after a good search to find them. Parking spacious but exit route was an obstacle course. Reception area crowded with bus tour victims. If you just need a quick relief break, stop out on the highway, or a 10 minute stop may become 25 or 30. Notwithstanding, Armidale is a beautiful and historic city, particularly attractive in the autumn 🍂

A very well run centre in my opinion. Spoke to a lady on the phone yesterday and she was very helpful. Patrick in the Centre today was also very good.
We thoroughly recommend the Heritage Bus Tour that runs from the Centre 6 days per week.

I popped in to get some suggestions on what to see and do on our way from Armidale to Tamworth. I'm so glad I did! I was armed with brochures, suggestions and recommendations. The lady I spoke to was really knowledgeable and helpful. They also have driver reviver from here. Given we were in for a drive and I hadn't had a coffee yet, I grabbed a cup. Highly recommend visiting here to find out all the inside knowledge on how best to spend your time in the area.

Waited for 25 minutes whilst the lovely women took a couple through the entire life history of nsw and did not even care to show us any attention. Very knowledgeable obviously but oh my goodness. All we wanted was a map.
Wilderness area with bushwalking tracks, a campground, a striking waterfall & a shelter with BBQs.
Wow, this place has one of the best views of a water fall. We really loved the picturous views. Car park has reasonable number of parking slots, there is a public toilet as well. We had our lunch over there since we brought our own food.

AMAZING !!
Spend as much time as you can there. So many viewing points to see the breathtaking place from.
Camp grounds are 🏕 a nice setup. Come prepared.
The General store about 10mins drive up the road has amazing burgers and basic supplies.
Please take your rubbish with you.

Beautiful viewing deck! You don't realise how deep the valley is till you walk to the edge. We were told this first viewing deck is the best, short easy walk - wheelchair accessible.
Melita Mous — Google review
Nice drive to see a large gorge and a waterfall in the distance. There wasn’t much rain so not a huge waterfall but great scenic view of the area. The walk is easy and only 300 meters from the parking lot to the observation deck. There are lots of picnic tables but would suggest the one under cover as most had ants on them. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
David Webb — Google review
The waterfall was not so huge when we reached there, maybe because of the season. It's a nice view from the lookout point. We were lucky to see a Lyre bird and some rocky wallabies. A hike down the steep trail led us to Chandler's lookout point. It's a nice place near Armidale for a picnic.
Prasanna Malla — Google review
Amazing views! I had no idea something so spectacular was so close to a full country highway. Definitely check this out if travelling between Dorrigo and Armidale. The tracks are easy to walk, well maintained and signed.

Very easy 200m walk from the carpark to the waterfalls lookout. Falls still have water flowing. Picnic area is big, but insects are there.
Parking is plenty
Waterfall is beautiful and looks so vast. If must be a sight to behold when the falls is in its full bloom. Visited on 23 Dec 2023

A great place to unwind, quite and cool. Basic amenities include such toilets and water. Barbecue is provided and mostly cleaned and well maintained by the authorities looking after the park. Awesome bush walk and breathtaking views around the gorge. Highly recommended to drop by and rest while driving along the waterfall way .

Free camping. Close to the shops and cafes of Guyra and a lovely walk around the reserve. You are very close the the bowling club with two local supermarkets in town to stock up. Toilets and pump out available.
Go check out the old station which has been kept fresh and the museum too.
Currently the Lagoon is chockers with bird life now the Lagoon is full of water again. Come check it out especially at golden hour for all you budding photographers and it's awesome when the most and fog roll in.
Sooo good to see it wet and wild.

Wow, great place. Highly recommend visiting and staying there.
Great place for the kids.
They have utilised everything that is on hand from the rocks for the paths to the steel for the swings etc.
Take your time. People with a disability need to look where their walking. My daughter got around the property slowly but carefully and she loved it as did her children.
Staff are fantastic. All amenities were clean and the cleanest camp kitchen and restrooms i have ever come across.
Great sunsets

Just spent 3 days here camping and it was just awesome. We love the animals and the freedom that comes with the whole area. It’s also fantastic that you can get dinner from the kiosk delivered to your campsite!
Perfect for the whole family. Babies, toddlers, young kids, older kids, parents, Grand parents - the lot.

The most amazing family run EXPERIENCE we've ever had! There's so much to do & see for all ages, young & old!
& the owners were nothing but warm & welcoming!
The kiosk is a fantastic addition. The only thing I could suggest would be another swimming area for the older ppl that's warmed, but otherwise my family & I just want to thank your whole family, for being so amazing!! & we will see you again soon!

This is an experience you must have if you are in this area, if you miss Green Valley farm and the museum, you are missing out on the things that make life great,
Bernadette C — Google review
This place is out of this world and well worth a visit for any family on a holiday or passing by. We were the first to arrive on the day we went and the place has an eerie feeling… no front reception desk demanding money as you enter which is quite refreshing, you get to see what you’re in for before parting with your cash. The place is a huge playground full of old school rides and thrills that the older “kids” will remember from their childhood. There is a huge area with animals that you can feed… the most beautiful gentle kangaroos, an ostrich, Guinea pigs and even a deer!
There’s mini golf, a jumping cushion and you can buy some surprisingly delicious lunch from the kiosk.
And don’t forget to visit the museum before you leave. A broad range of a bit of everything…
Summer brings a water park which it was too cold for when we went.
Camping and cabins also available.
Don’t miss this place!

Green Valley Farm is an amazing place, run with love by the owners. Our kids have enjoyed trips to Green Valley for years. We just took our 2.5 yr old Great Granddaughter to visit and enjoy the facilities, meet the animals and see all the interesting displays. The food was great and the new pool area for kids is wonderful.
It truely is a wonderful family atmosphere in a bush setting. The gardens that started it all are wonderful too.
Peter Cupitt — Google review
An amazing place to see ...greeted with smiles and a little bit of banter ...a little oasis in the Aussie bush created seemingly "just for me" ...with a museum of wonders and an assortment of rides (waterslide in schoool holidays) to a kiosk with historical pictures and a burger to chase hunger away ...not forgetting the animals and birds that abound ...I found it a great place to chill and wind down **beaming smile**

Its an easy drive from Armidale, through Guyra, and only a $15 entry. It's a great spot to spend time with family or friends. there is BBQ facilities or a cafe for refreshments and a range of activities, including a pool and water slides, park equipment (which are a throw back to the 80s being full arse burning metal, but fun non the less), a bounce pillow, and lots of animals to check out.
Candice Dawn — Google review
Green Valley Farm is a must for any family who wants to have a fun getaway in regional NSW. We have been and stayed three times with our kids over the years and each time it has been brilliant.
So much to see and do, mini zoo, putt putt golf, museum, water park, play equipment everywhere and a kiosk.
Not a strawberry shake fan, but after reading several reviews, decided to get one strawberry shake.
Fresh strawberry were used generously in the shake, the strawberry shake tastes naturally balance in sweet and sour with a big punch of strawberry aroma as though you are having a bite into a fresh strawberry. Dddeee.....delicious :p
A definite must try for anyone that visit Glen Innes.

This place was great. Loved the strawberries and cream dish.
Had a pure strawberries milkshake made with real strawberries. Not as sweet as expected but still great.
Had a lot of stuff to look and buy as well. Very popular

Don't buy the scones and jam and cream. Scones frozen and badly defrosted. Couldn't cut one of mine possibly because it wasn't wrapped before it went into the microwave. Cost$13.50 for 2 small scones a nice amount of delicious jam and the smallest plonk of cream on the side of a paper plate with coffee on a paper cup. Very disappointed. Do not recommend

This business is for sale and there's plenty of room for improvement.
We ordered 2 Devonshire teas, 2 waffles and 2 Strawberry milkshakes at the counter. Went to find a table and every vacant table was dirty. It was a Monday afternoon, so certainly not your typical busy period. Our order was delivered promptly on a tray. The waffles were a generous size but unfortunately the waffles has chunks of sugar about the size of a tooth all through them. The scones, were VERY dry and the premeasured sugar was stirred in the coffee and was found stilling at the bottom the paper cup. All of our items were served on paper plates and cups and wooden utensils. The milkshakes were more like smoothies. The prices were a little on the expensive side especially when it didn't match up to the quality.
The young staff members, left tables dirty for the whole during we were there and there were only 3 other customers during that time.
We all left very disappointed.

Best strawberry milkshake in the country, so far. Lots of local pantry goodies available to pick up as well. The place had a steady stream of locals and tourists in for a takeaway coffee. Must be doing something right. The Berry goods are grown directly behind the cafe, so you can't get fresher than that.

We stopped along here for a coffee break on a road trip and it was well worth the stop. The cafe serves Strawberries with cream/ice cream, scones, shakes, coffee etc. The strawberries were very fresh and super sweet and well worth the stop. The cafe also has a shop with spreads, jams, sauces etc - some made on premises and some from other local providers. There is also a shop with souvenirs. There is cafe seating indoors and out and we quite enjoyed sitting under the shade of a big tree out front. There is a mini kids play area but is only suitable for under 5s.

Quick stop after hearing great things and was a little underwhelmed. The scones were ok, reheated and didn’t taste overly fresh. Served on a plastic tray with paper plates and wooden cutlery. The tables weren’t all clean, would have liked to sit outside as the fans were on inside which made it a bit chilly but the tables outside were a bit of a shambles as well.
Friendly service and we also bought some jam to try at home. We will stop and give it another go on our next trip!

One of the recommended places to visit while you are in Glen Innes. It is such a fun time to pose among stones. It will be a good memory of visiting Glen Innes Town. As one of the attractions in town, the standing stones reflect a good place to keep the memory of the travelling. It has enough parking spots. It is also allow visitors to take photos with the town as the background.

I loved the human sundial. And it actually works!! There are couple of fun things you will find for yourself. But don’t suppose this place must be in a bucket list. If you driving through and looking for unusual place to have a stop - this is a good one. There is public toilets and cafe.

This area has a lot of cultural significance for many people. There are gatherings here throughout the year and at these times there are lots of people around along with markets etc. When I visited, the grass was nice and green and there were only a few people here. The Skywalk is also worth a visit - further up the hill.

This is NOT an aboriginal site. This is for the local Celtic community. (Not to say it is more or less important because of this but I’m pretty sure many people are like me - looking for local aboriginal sites to visit while traveling). Got a few shots still.

What a fascinating place, plenty of room to park and turn your caravan around. There are toilets and plenty of space for the kids to run around. Each stone is marked with a no, which means something. Try the sundial, it really works. There is a festival on every year on the first weekend in May each year from Thursday to Sunday.....

Pretty cool spot if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Glenn Innes. Nice little celtic inspired cafe on-site. Lots of big stones sticking up from the ground.

This place should be the highlight of the entire B76 highway and definitely it is the highlight of Glen Innes. the place is so beautiful and with all the standing stones there is information about it as well.
Beautiful autumn leaves and trees give this place so much of a nice vibe.
When we were there, the cafe was closed though.

If you have time to hang around the town, do yourself a favour and talk to the guy in the information centre. Not only a super down to earth fella, he will give you heaps of ideas to do with your future trips. And I didn’t know this town would have snow in winter before talking to him. I’ll be back mate.

One the best mineral and rock collections I've ever seen. This place is a must see...more than rock and mineral collection, it has a wonderful history of "back in the day". small gold coin donation $2 and worth every cent. Allow plenty of time to see everything.

If you’re ever in the area you need to stop in to Walk through this amazing museum looks are so deceiving it looks small but it goes on forever. An amazing array of gemstones. This little town Emmaville has so much history the volunteers that run the museum have put an amazing lot of artifacts from the mining era together. If you will really want to read everything you will need at least 2 to 3 days to go through everything. An Entry fee of $2 you will be blown away with what you can see and learn about this amazing little town.

It is by far the best country museum with an incredible range of minerals. It also contains a good display of military displays, an old bakery, shop etc.
We were lucky enough to be guided by a local gentleman with a great wit and an incredible knowledge of mining and minerals.
The visit to the museum at Emmaville has been the highlight of our current travel across South Australia, NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
Thank you Emmaville!

One of the most interesting Museums we have seen. There are crystals, petrified wood, historical buildings, old tools, old coins and wartime memorabilia. It's a great shame that the trans no longer operate on this line.
It's well worth a visit.
To the volunteers who put their time into the museum a big thank you.
Quite an unusual museum, which I loved. Bring walking shoes, so you can climb in and out of the trains and walk around their extensive grounds. Highly recommended.

The volunteers have done a great job!
It feels like the ticket and station masters offices were vacated yesterday. There's 2 trains from way back with carriages you can walk through as well as workshop displays and a 3x5m diorama of Tenterfield with a trainset.
There's photos of the men that cut the sleepers and their monster chainsaws are in the workshop.
Its well worth a visit to imagine the challenges of their way of life.

Great way to spend a couple of hours. So much to see and enjoy. My husband loved looking at all the old machinery and engines. Hats off to everyone who works so hard to preserve this important part of Australia's history. Make sure you go back at night to take photos of this beautiful building under spotlight.

The Tenterfield Railway Museum really takes you back to a time when our railways were vital to NSW. Mail, livestock, machinery, and passengers were transported short and long distances.
The old steam trains and the various types of carriages are on display and you can board them and, if you're like me, wish that they were still in operations.
You can even sit in the driver's seat of one of the trains.
Thanks to the many volunteers who have worked so hard to create this wonderful museum.

What a great step back in time.
For a very reasonable fee, you can spend a couple of hours seeing railway as it was.
Getting a better understanding of the environment of rail and the complexity of running it.
They have quite a few train carriages that have been restored.
It is certainly one of the better step back in times in Australia.

Am sure the people at the centre do a great job however our sole purpose for overnighting in Tenterfield was to visit the Saddlery.
We arrived on advertised hours and
unfortunately it was closed.
Feel perhaps if this happens, maybe
someone from the Centre could open. After all, majority of people visiting from afar, do so because of the Saddlery history, thanks to Peter Allen.

As caravaners with just three days to spend in Tenterfield, I thought to ask the experts. And I sure did! We travel with our dog which excludes so many things. The lovely lady (forgive me for not remembering your name) was so helpful. She went out of her way to think of spots we can visit.
I had done the usual search engine looks with some conflicting answers. It was great to have places we can confidently go.
Tenterfield is an iconic place to visit in Australia. Why oh why is the Visitors Centre closing????? I do not understand!
People like us who arrive next month will not have access to this service
Surely the wonderful volunteers could be accommodated in a small shopfront.
Minimal cost……big financial input from informed travellers. JR

Barbara who works there gave us really interesting insights into the building, the museum and some local history. She was quite knowledgeable and patient and warm, which we really appreciated. The hall where we were supposed to hear Sit Parkes’ speech didn’t work well - the speech was playing intermittently, you hear two sentences then there is silence of a few minutes then another sentence or two.

A small, concise (3 room) museum about Parkes and Federation. We'll worth a quick trip.
There's also a cabinet on 'Breaker' Morant (with not much context) and we were guided around the on site cinema which seemed to have not much to do with anything.
Lovely volunteers, dog friendly which is wonderful to see. A beautiful place to see.

Sadly Tenterfield Saddler was closed , when I visited
Hopefully my next visit to Tenterfield
Marty — Google review
Went here a few days ago and had a look around when we were there one of the ladies told us all the interesting history associated with the saddler.
Most known from the Peter Allan song Tenterfield Saddler. The song was written about his saddler grandfather George Woolnought who owned the saddlery from 1908-1960.
The song highlights the central role played by the traditional tradesman and his place of work in the life of Tenterfield in that time.
Originally the building was constructed as a residence in 1860 by Sir Stuart Alexander Donaldson from Tenterfield station.
I then become a saddlery in 1870 by saddler C H Pavel. In 1874 it was sold to the Australian Joint Stock Bank until it reverted back to a private home 1895-1887.
The next saddler to own the property was Dan Edgar he had a client who turned out to be the famous poet and author Banjo Patterson. Banjo Patterson married Miss Alice Walker from Tenterfield station in 1903.
In 1972 the cultural architectural and social significance of the Tenterfield Saddlery was recognised by the National Trust Australia. Today the building is a retail outlet for leather goods and as a tourist attraction for the town.

Everyone loves a family story, and Peter Allen’s famous song Tenterfield Saddler celebrates his grandfather’s story.
The first visit to Glenlyon Dam showcases a delightful lunch from the kiosk, followed by a drive down to the water level. Although currently at only 4% capacity, it is reported that ten Murray Cod were caught on the day. This makes it an ideal location for picnics, camping, caravanning, fishing or simply exploring. Witnessing the dam at full capacity would undoubtedly be a magnificent sight worth experiencing firsthand.
We went for a drive to have a look at this caravan park. We where very pleasantly surprised, such amazing views a very well kept park.
The lady in the shop was very helpful, and very welcoming personality, and very informative about the area, we decided to stay for a Devonshire tea, The home made scones and the homemade jams absolutely delicious.
Just a short drive up towards the Dam wall well worth the drive
The amenities block we saw near the shop was very clean.

It was very quiet for some reason. Good covered picnic tables and facilities. We stopped only for lunch down close to the boat ramp.
Hilly terrain with unique rock formations & hiking trails, plus picnic spots, campsites & restrooms.
Lovely spot for a walk. Various degrees of difficulty. Many easy walks. Bald Rock more challenging, but fun. Take plenty of water. Flies can be bad in summer. Nice picnic grounds.

Huge boulders and stunning rock formations. The pyramid is not for the faint hearted, well worth the scramble to the top for an experienced hiker, hiking boots strongly recommend. If you don't want to hike there are lots of lovely walks for most abilities. Don't forget to check out underground creek, worth the little drive from the main camping and day use area. Stop off at The chocolate shop for a treat on the way home, if chocolate is not your thing, pick up some onion jam, so yummy!

Great place to stay and unwind. Recently renovated so amenities are excellent (no showers though, as with other state parks). Fires provided on camping spots, bring your own off-ground fireplace for caravan spots. All plots ate large, flat and a good distance apart.

So many walks. We went after rain so the creek and cascades were amazing. Went up to the Pyramid. Really nice area and so much to explore. You could spend a week. We did two nights. Qpws fees apply. You can get wifi at the visitor centre to book camp. Limited spots so we had a drive through first. For vans the best one is the first.

Big car park, toilets, gas bbq’s, grassy area for kids to roam and visitor centre. There is camping available across the road. The area itself is like a moon landscape with a creek that runs through it. Many walking tracks well signed. Lots of kangaroos and wildflowers. Easy short walk to Granite Arch.

Really lovely place to come and explore this granite marvel. To reach the top of the pyramid is a 1.2km walking track. This includes some steep stairs and then a steep walk up the granite rock face. The view at the top is beautiful showing all the granite areas surrounding the pyramid. There is the granite arch which is only a 300m walk through the bushland. At the bottom there is also a water hole area for some swimming.

Beautiful national park with some great walks for all fitness levels, and good facilities at the day use area, highly recommend. There is camping spots available which look quite nice, though no showers.
The Junction is an easy walk along an amazing solid granite creek bed with rock pools.
The Pyramid is a more challenging climb up a large number of steps and then a scramble up pretty steep rock face that can be quite dangerous if you’re not careful - don’t attempt in the wet. But spectacular views of the park and surrounds.

This is the coolest national park I’ve been to in Queensland. The boulders are absolutely magical. It really does feel like you’re in the forgotten land of the giants. I was in awe the entire time. We went through the Granite Arch and hiked up the Pyramid. The Pyramid was very steep and there were some areas that were wet and slippery so it was a little scary to navigate around but we made it to the top and it was breathtaking.

I searched for a wine tasting experience and chose Tobin Wines based on the positive comments regarding their high-quality wine. Although Adrian Tobin was not present at the cellar door, I was served by his friendly and professional staff. They explained the meticulous production process that contributes to their exceptional wine. I had the opportunity to taste three red and three white wines, and particularly enjoyed one of their white wines, which I purchased.
We had the pleasure of meeting Adrian Tobin at Tobin wines’ cellar door. His knowledge of wine and his passion for his craft were a privilege to share - it certainly made the tasting experience a very memorable one.
Ian, is an equally charming host .The wines are wonderful! If you are lovers of red wine( as we are), the Block 1 Shiraz and the Tempranillo are super.

Let's start with the cellar door - rustic but classy. Quality glassware where every new tasting is served in a clean glass. No one does it this way in the GB because it is the Tobin way. Ian was the perfect host giving you time with the wine, time to discuss with a friend and then opened with a discussion about the wine, it's journey and future. We were also given the opportunity to a tour of the barrel room. A Tobin's tasting is never a quick experience, but always a rewarding one.

Got to go to Tobin winery again after a 12 year interval between visits. The wine is spectacular, amongst the best in the Granite Belt. We actually got to have Mr Tobin himself do our tasting. He's a wealth of knowledge of all things wine and it was an absolute pleasure to have him share his enthusiasm for wine with us. Tobin Winery is definitely one if the wineries in the area that is on our must visit list. Cannot recommend it enough

Amazing experience on a quiet Sunday. Oliver was a fantastic host, very knowledgeable and passionate. He showed us the fermentation room, the grounds and the old wine crush. The wines are great, we took the Reserve Merlot and will be back for the whites.

Sarah was knowledgeable on the wines and took us through the process they follow of wine making and what makes Tobin Wines unique. We don’t normally love Chardonnay but found it hard to not walk away with it and the entire wine collection. It was incredible to see the process of wine making and the barrel room. Highly recommend stopping at Tobin Wines it was a highlight of our trip

What a superb experience being served by (I hope we remember correctly) Sarah this Saturday. So knowledgeable and welcoming. We really didn't need or expect to spend more money after our shopping extravaganza but learning about the wines and history of the winery , we were won over. It's just a shame her male colleague kept interrupting and bullying her in front of customers. Such bad form. We will be back and looking to be served by her, a credit to Tobin Winery.

Love this place. Sarah and Ian were wonderful hosts for both wine tasting and tour. Very educational and the wines are of a very high standard. Excited to try all the different wines we purchased, and moreso for our next visit.

The best winery experience. Superior wines and fabulous company. Knowledge about their wines and history is second to none. Sarah blew us away with her knowledge of wines. Sarah and Ian you are a formidable pair. Thank you and see you next year.

Loved the wines. Loved them. We bought some lovely bottles. The place was nice and the atmosphere was good. The owners were detailed in their explanations and clearly knew their stuff.
Now. We were sharing our tasting with our wives. When the men were there, we got wines quickly and with great explanations. When the wives sat down, they waited twenty+ minutes to get a single taste.
At one point we told them to leave and the men sat down. Seconds later we had glasses of wine. They had waited 15 minutes with nothing.
Really disappointing. I loved everything else. Why not treat all people equally? What happened here??
Edit 18 October 2022 - I had a forthright, candid and honest conversation with th owner, Ian, concerning the situation. I would like to commend him and the staff for taking my concern seriously, and am willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
To summarise - lovely wines, wonderful location, room for improvement. Could say that about most of us.

From the moment we were greeted by Sarah at the door, to the wine tasting and tour by Ian, we felt very welcomed and relaxed all throughout. The space is comfortable and the wines are beautiful - would recommend the Luella Plum Cabernet.
Thank you Ian and Sarah for making this experience one of the highlights of our trip ⭐️

I searched for the wine tasting and decided to pick Tobin Wine as people all commented his high quality wine. Adrian Tobin was not at the cellar door and we were served by his friendly staff. She’s also professional and she explained to us their high standard of production process that’s why their wine is the best. We tasted 3 red and 3 white and we particularly liked a white wine so we bought one. His wines are among the best in this country. We saw some return customers who just walked in and bought the wine. Definitely worth visiting if you are interested in wine tasting.

Great intimate wine tasting experience with Sarah. Sarah took the time to walk us through each wine and it's process along with some history of the vineyard and its owner. Couldn't recommend Tobin Wines enough for their outstanding service and in depth knowledge. They were also extremely understanding of a booking mix up.
Thanks again to Sarah and Tobin Wines.

Beautiful location with a great host. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth stopping by and restocking for your wine collection with some local wines.
We end up walking away with a few (sagrantino) :-)
Hiking trails through granite boulder clusters & eucalyptus forest, with summit views of Queensland.
A must do if you are in the area. We drove from Casino and it was definitely worth the couple of hours drive. The view is magnificent and the granite formations are stunning. Photo opportunities around every corner. If you are fit - and game - going up the rock face and coming down via the back track (Bungoona Walk) was a great way to do the summit for the diversity of scenery and formations.

It's a splendid walk from the parking area to the top of Bald Rock. The parks staff have done a great job tidying up after the bushfires. Nature is taking its course and vegetation is greening up everything. We did the long track to the top not the short, steep climb. Lots of wildflowers out.
Martin Witchard — Google review
What an awe-inspiring little hike; I totally loved this! You can be bold and brave and head straight up the rock face or you can take the gentle route to the Summit via the Bungoona track. Either way the views are simply stunning. About 3km in total. Truly, it's nature at her best. Easily accessible via the New England Highway and ample parking with toilets and picnic facilities.

Limited number of camp sites makes it nice and quiet. Tons of shade. Walking trails very close and the actual climb is achievable by people with even below average mobility and fitness. Picnic tables on every site and several water taps.

An incredible sight, well worth the visit. The drive alone is fun (Mount Lindesay Road is epic across its entire considerable length) but even if it wasn't, this is a must see destination and walk up to the summit.

Up there with the best views in Australia, we had the entire mountain to ourselves on a weekday afternoon and watched the sun set from the summit. 45° incline to get to the top, but no more than 3km return from car to summit. Very worth the steep walk.

Love this rock. It's huge! Fun to climb and explore. Surrounded by attractive bushland dotted with granite boulders and views to distant mountains. Quiet camping area and lots of tracks to walk or ride bikes. Lots of wildlife. Good access to rock for all levels of fitness. Take care on road to avoid hitting wallabies and roos as they're everywhere.
Donna Duffy — Google review
Bald Rock is amazing for the fact it starts about 300m from the carpark. The slab to walk up while steep is extremely grippy, though I would not recommend doing this in the wet.
This is achievable for people of most fitness levels, I've seen many families with small kids go up, but you just have to take your time, even if it's take 10 steps and have a break.
I would not recommend this to unfit elderly, or those with poor moment as it is sightly uneven terrain.
Once you've climbed the slab it's maybe 1km of walking a relatively flat path to the Cairn making your final destination.
I love this one is so quick and easy, great to take you non-hiking friends.

Amazing spot, short hike with huge payoff views, we drove all the way from the Gold Coast, and it was a spectacular end destination. A beautiful national park, big trees and plenty of wild life.
The hikes themselves are short and steep but because the landscape is so flat around the park you can see for miles all around.

Absolutely worth the visit, even if you're coming from far. The scenery is fantastic, the walks can be as long or as short as you want, and you're always near this picturesque river and the incredible waterfall.

A perfect place for families through to experienced hikers. Plenty of tracks for everyone. As a family we did a few of the smaller ones. A very short walk out to the top of the falls and the same distance to the rock pools! Both definitely worth the look!
Plenty of shade and tables around to sit. A few long drop toilets placed around, but not well maintained.
Also remember being a NSW park you will need to pay to enter so having cash with you is helpful or you can use an app!

Only 27km from Tenterfield, Boonoo Boonoo National Park has a stunning waterfall, secluded swimming holes, hiking tracks, camping areas, accommodation and picnic spots.
After Banjo Patterson proposed to his sweetheart, Alice Walker, at Boonoo Boonoo Falls lookout, there was movement at Tenterfield cattle station. Word had passed around that the station owner’s daughter had got away. Presumably she loved the guy, but it’s possible that his charming choice of setting in which to pop the question might have helped sway her answer. Alice didn’t have a chance and she and Banjo married in 1903.
Today, Boonoo Boonoo (pronounced bunna-bunoo) is still the ultimate romantic setting, especially after a good rainfall. From the lookout is an uninterrupted view of the Boonoo Boonoo River cascading over the granite cliff edge to become a spectacular waterfall that plunges 210m into the gorge below. Nearby, you’ll find walking tracks and shady places to picnic. Secluded rock pools along the river, lined by wildflower-filled bushland, are the perfect way to cool off on a hot day.
Gordon “Hawkesbury Campground” McDonald — Google review
Well worth the drive in from Tenterfield, picnic area and toilets are well maintained. Spectacular views down through the gorge and waterfalls cascading down the side. There is a large pool at the top that you can swim in tho we did not as it was cold a a little discoloured from all the recent rains and bushfires in the area. Still well worth it for a drive and a sausage on the BBQ.

Thank you Simon & Cindy for a wonderful "Wine Discovery Tour" of the Granite Belt Region including Stanthorpe, Ballandean areas, loved the small group and how you were able to personalize the tour. The lunch location was excellent along with the Heavenly Chocolate stop and Cheese factory. Absolutely great fun and not just for the kiddies. Our group of 9 adults had a ball completing the maze and the riddles and became very competitive (as you do). Unfortunately, we ran out of time for the putt putt golf but would definitely visit again when we are back.

A lot of fun running around to find the clues in the maze. Well run place. The colourful paintwork and silly signs give it a lift.
The bag inspection on entry to check we aren’t bringing food in (or glass) is a bit over the top. Leaves a bad taste when kid-focused places insist on you buying their food that might not suit your family, especially when you’re already paying $62 entry (2 kids and 2 adults)

Kids (8 and 7) loved the mazes and mini golf. The riddle solving adds an extra bit of excitement to the large maze; and the smaller mazes are a great warm up. Highly recommend for families. Super clean and well kept. Lovely owners.
Amanda van Keimpema — Google review
Our family really enjoyed the Granite Belt Maze. The owners were very friendly. There is in fact three mazes to go in. The main large maze was really well set out. What we enjoyed the most was the riddles we had to solve. This was done by finding the dead ends and deciphering a code. We really enjoyed this twist on maze walking. The other two mazes were smaller with special short cuts only our daughter could get through, which she really loved. Also a nine hole mini golf course was included in the entrance fee. All in all we had a great experience.
Geordie Lavers-McBain — Google review
The kids had fun but there’s things that just leave a bad taste and make us not want to return. 1. They don’t let anyone in unless you pay full price… I am pregnant and unwell and wanted to sit and wait for my sister/husband and the kids but was told no, had to pay, so I sat in the car park and then went for a drive.
I noticed other parents in the car park too which is ridiculous. Also, the bag search to make sure you don’t bring food and drink is ridiculous… it’s a tiny ‘amusement’ park so clearly just after more money. Even inside they only had 1 sausage roll and 1 pie.
Easy solutions.. give wristbands to people that pay and have a seating area inside.
Ditch the bag checks!
Also for a family of 4 it will set you back nearly $70 which is also ridiculous for a tiny maze and basic mini golf.

What a little gem! A must do with kids if you visit the Granite Belt. Three fun mazes, mini golf and lovely gardens. The funny signs show the owners have a great sense of humour. Picnic tables available and snacks and mains can be purchased in the kiosk.
Davinia Munn — Google review
Enjoyed this with the kids. The big maze isn't that hard to navigate, but they've made it more interesting by getting you to solve one of many riddles using letters found at the dead ends. Kids loved that so much we each did 2 riddles. Putt putt was challenging enough for kids and adults. Enjoyed the funny signs and photo spots like a guillotine and stocks.
Andrew Cowin — Google review
Was lots of fun with the kids (18, 16, 13). Had a crack at the maze for about 1 hour, collecting all the clues to riddles, plus we found the exit! Few fun photo props plus a smaller maze and playground for younger children. Entry includes a game of putt putt golf which was a lot of fun. Small canteen available for food and drinks. Only allowed to take in water, all other food and drinks must be purchased from their Cafe. We ate before entering as no real gluten free option other than hot chips.
Clean amenities and friendly staff. Allow 2 -3 hours to enjoy all the facilities.

Fun little stop for a maze and min golf. Maze is helped by doing the riddle and solving the puzzle. My friends (adult females) had a good laugh getting lost.
We did both the maze and the mini golf in about 1.5-2 hours for a group of 5.
Mini golf is very mini, but still a laugh and something a bit different than the usual in the area.

Great wooden maze with puzzles to solve that will keep the whole family entertained; there is also 2 more smaller mazes for kids and mini golf ; thoroughly enjoyable!

Great maze for all the family. Set on 3 acres. With 3 mazes. 2 smaller ones for children and a larger one for the whole family. The large one comes with a riddle. You need to navigate the maze to solve the riddle. Lots of fun. There is also a mini golf course. There is a lovely garden area where you can have lunch or snacks bought from the on-site Cafe. There are a variety of birds there including Apostle Birds and Satin Bower Bird. Your hosts, Craig and Sandra are friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Great for people of all ages as there is lots to see and do there. The only negatives were that on such a warm day there was nowhere to have a little rest in the big maze (I did mention this to the staff at the end) and not dog friendly, so someone missed out. Otherwise great place to visit.

An informative, interesting 1 hour insight into the training and workings of this dog training facility. The narrative is clear and suitable for adults and children alike. Enjoyed it because it was something different. These are working dogs in training and not trick dogs so it doesn't always go as planned, which adds to the experience.

What a wonderful experience. The dog show is worth it and one gets an idea of how patient one needs to be if doing specialist dog training. Also did a very short tour of the truffle nursery and bought some truffle oil. Using the latter in cooking (very small quantities) and it adds amazing taste and complexity to a dish. There is also local honey one can purchase.
Definitely pop in if you're in the area. Check the website for opening days as they are not open that often. When we went they were only open on Wednesday and Saturday from 11am. Also check when they do the Alpaca feeding.

Castle Glen, also known as the "Castle in a valley," was founded in 1990 by Cedric Miller and is situated on the Granite Belt. The cellar door offers an amazing experience with its award-winning reputation. Surrounded by apple orchards, cattle farms, and natural granite formations, the drive to Castle Glen is truly spectacular. Visitors are greeted with a well-maintained castle and vineyard upon arrival.
Hey look, I don’t drink but this place is worth a visit. I bought all sorts of beverages that my family and friends would love as gifts. Something that you wouldn’t find in other places. The staff were amazing too! Not to mention the ambiance, I mean seriously its in a castle, just perfect!

We visited Castle Glen during our visit to Stanthorpe. It was great speaking with the owner who makes all of the products. So much effort goes into making each item which are preservative free. Very cool building here. A little dated inside and needs a revamp. The owner says he's cutting back on how many different spirits he's making so get in while they're available. Be great if they did a small tasting tray.
Phillip O — Google review
Well I was going to write a great review, as the place does the cutest bottles of liqueurs and has a great setting, however I found their customer service for any issues very disappointing. In store it wasnt particularly outstanding but I was too excited about the cute bottles to worry about that at the time.
I purchased several items, two of which were really cute bottles of liqueurs. I drove home to Brisbane, then my friend and I sampled these at one location, before I drove the few KMs home. When I went to unpack the bottle lid of the round bottle was not on the bottle and despite being in a cardboard box and upright, had leaked half the bottle. I figured this was on me for not securing the lid, however I have found the lid does not stay on. There is obviously an air pressure issue with the design of lid and bottle, so I now have a half empty bottle that the lids won't stay on.
Now here comes the issue. I am assuming I have a faulty lid, so I contact Castle Glen to let them know, and to ask if I might have a replacement (as I really love the bottle and wanted to display it after). I was basically told that these lids often don't stay on, hence why they shrink-wrap them when they make them. So I suggested that is a fault and that perhaps they should be informing the customer about this, both at time of purchase and on the box. Basically (in a friendly way) told me this is how it is and they aren't going to do anything to help me. They also suggested they haven't had this complaint before, which I find strange if this is a common occurrence. And if it's not a common occurrence, then surely you would just err on the side of caution as a business and replace it.
Needless to say I am disappointed that I have half a bottle of liqueur and will now need to find a new home for it and can't store in the bottle I wanted it in. Apparently once empty, my bottle can still be used for the aesthetic purposes I wanted it for, although my plan was to fill it with a coloured liquid, so I guess that won't be happening. Surely if you have a design flaw, you would want to ensure you fix that rather than telling your customers that's just how it is.

I really wanted to see this castle, sit down and sample a variety of good wines and maybe food being lunch. Driving in I was not disappointed at the castle building and large green grounds. The front entry needed a bit of pruning, the front yard provides a differentiation and good photo location. Going in I was impressed by the display of goodies until I looked closely to find that there offerred a plethora of distilled spirits or liqueurs but not a wine to try and sample. The interior needs a bit of tlc. I tried the banana creme liqueur, blueberry liqueur, caramel liqueur which would probably be nice served with ice and one other spirit that was too strong to enjoy as a ready to drink and needed a cold chaser. No food, im told that they use to serve them but the kitchen has been closed indefinitely. No seating area. The castle is not setup for visitors staying and enjoying the view so do not expect this kind of thing relaxation after a long drive. Otherwise, friendly service and the proprietors clearly have the passion for mixing flavoured spirits. I did buy the banana creme, green fairy and a couple of jams which I hope will taste good.

Suttons Juice Factory and Cidery, located just 10 minutes north of Stanthorpe in the town of Southern Downs, is a popular destination for tourists seeking authentic apple pies. The family-owned establishment offers a variety of freshly-baked pies and other goodies, all made with generous servings of flavorful apples. Visitors can also enjoy the cozy atmosphere with indoor seating by the fireplace or outdoor seating in the grassy backyard.
Any visit to Stanthorpe is incomplete without a visit to Sutton's. We have sometimes made the journey to the area just to visit Sutton's and stock up on their amazing apple juices. I also love the amazing hospitality here as well. Everyone is always so friendly, helpful and attentive all the time.

I was really looking forward to Sutton's. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Just lower your expectations a bit and you'll be fine. On return to Stanthorpe, Sutton’s is always a must-do. The home-baked apple pie and other goodies are just so flavourful and loaded with apples that it’s impossible to say no. Their servings are generous and it certainly helps when you get the apple cider ice cream to help it go down. There’s quite a bit in store to check out, as well as the occasional taste test. Very slow service so I guess everything is fresh. It’s good to pick up some souvenirs for a trip to Stanthorpe here.
The cheese is a bit ordinary but a fun experience to try the tasting plate- $3 per person.

Fantastic cheese, service with many many smiles and a great selection of products inside the shop. We loved it so much we went 3 times in 5 days.
