How long is the drive from Udon Thani to Buriram?
The direct drive from Udon Thani to Buriram is 198 mi (318 km), and should have a drive time of 4 hrs 39 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Udon Thani to Buriram, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Wat Pothisomphon and Central Udon, or the ever-popular Nong Prajak Park.
The top stops along the way from Udon Thani to Buriram (with short detours) are Phimai Historical Park, Nong Prajak Park, and Wat Nong Waeng. Other popular stops include Red Lotus Lake Kumphawapi, National Museum of Ban Chiang, and Save Elephant Foundation- Surin project.
Nong Prajak Park is a spacious and stunning park in the city, offering various activities and attractions for visitors. The serene ambiance of the park is complemented by the lively atmosphere generated by many people engaging in exercise during late afternoons. From designated walking and cycling paths to suspension bridges, children's play areas, and relaxation zones, there are exciting things to do for anyone who visits.
One of the most extensive and beautiful city parks I have visited. The park is both peaceful and buzzing with activity... especially in the late afternoon when throngs of local residents arrive for some evening exercise. With dedicated pedestrian and bicycle paths, suspension bridges, children's play areas and spots to just chill, there's something for everyone. Bikes are available to rent including tandem & triple seaters so you can get some extra foot power on your ride. If you visit Udon Thani, don't miss a sunset stroll through this wonderful park.

A nice place to spend a few hours or have a picnic. Nicely landscaped with plenty of shady places to sit or stroll on the small island. Sizeable children's playground, toilets, even a tai chi area. There's a bike path that rings the park, not sure of the overall length, maybe around 3 km. Across the road along the east side of the park, there are many local restaurants (at the north end) and a whole row of massage shops (at the south end). Prices at these massage shops are lower than those near Central Plaza, so if you're on a budget you might consider walking over to this part of town. All together, this park is absolutely worth a visit for a relaxing morning or afternoon outing.
John K — Google review
Starting at the main entrance on the east side, you can do a very nice circular walk crossing two pedestrian suspension bridges to include the island in the lake. Some lovely tropical plants and trees line the walking and cycle paths. There are several children's play areas, including the Dino land, as well as workout/ exercise stations dotted around the area. On the east side, there are several huts where you can get food and drink; a chilled drink was most welcome in the scorching heat of the day. I think this place will be much busier at night when it's cooler.

Very nice place.
The whole walk around the lake is 3,150 m, information for runners too!
There is a special way, dedicated for biking too!
Very safe for people who only walk or run then!
Daniel Choquer — Google review
My favorite part of the park is the 3Km bike lane that circumnavigates the lake. It’s well maintained and flat which makes it a great ride, whether for just taking in the scenery, or exercising. There’s also a bike rental place.
Michael Bruck — Google review
I love this place and visit every time I come to Udon. A beautiful lake, cycling and walking lanes plus bikes to hire. When you've finished exercising there are heaps of massage places and cafes.

Huge public park in town. Good location for joking. Don't forget to say hi to yellow duck family. Beware of the sun if you plan to visit around 12 to 15 o clock.

This park is a good travel spot for chilling and exercising. Areas of the park are expansive, and you can picnic with friends in the park. Park close to museums and cafes. There will be many people after work. Around the park, there are cycling lanes and ponds. There are trees along the way. Nights can be a little dark, and sometimes I go cycling, I can't see streetlights. An interesting point is the inflatable duck doll that floats on the pond. There are festive decorations, and there's a duck boat too. Whenever I go to this place, I head for the bridge across the ponds and take pictures of the views. The atmosphere is very comfortable.

I have been several times now and I go for a specific reason, to birdwatch. Having plenty of ornithological experience in the uk, Thailand has many more species of birds. This park in the winter is home to Coppersmith Barbets, Green Bee-eaters and Two-barred Warblers to name a few.
Tony Hedges — Google review
Excellent public park with water, playgrounds, exercise area dance area, and running/biking track. I went at around 7 pm and saw plenty of locals exercising. The entire park is well lit at night. Just be careful about the plentiful mosquitoes.
Fred Liu — Google review
My experience as a solo traveler at this park was overall pleasant. It offers a variety of children's play areas, making it a great spot for families. However, I was disappointed to find that the food places were permanently closed. On the positive side, the park provides bicycle rentals and offers lovely walking paths surrounded by exotic flora. The only drawback was the closure and apparent disrepair of the duck boats. Despite this, I had a nice time exploring the park on my solo trip

Nong Prajak Park is a wonderful place for an evening stroll. It's approximately 3 km around and has separate paths for bicycles and pedestrians.
I particularly enjoy the event. From marathons to music, there's often something new.
Wat Pothisomphon is a Buddhist temple complex from the 20th century that boasts a central chedi covered in gold and offers an observation platform. Situated in the heart of the city, this area offers various attractions, including lovely Thai temples that are typical and abundant around. It is advisable to visit early due to the intense heat.
Great looking worship place. Also discover that this place cremeate the dead too.

The Wat looks so majestic with the Naga lining the stairs. You can climb to the top that gives you a commanding view of the compound. There are 3 floors where you can enter the temple to pray. On the 3rd floor, the mural on the wall is beautiful. You will have removed your shoes to enter. After the temple visit, you can walk over to the Nong Prajak Park, which is across the road.
peter liew — Google review
The Temple grounds cover a large area and include many attractive buildings, but the centre piece is the beautiful Pagoda. You can climb the steps of the Pagoda where there are galleries on two levels. It's worth going upto the 2nd level for the best view of the whole site. Plenty of space for parking and free to visit. I noticed that apart from buildings like the Ordination and Assembly Halls which unfortunately were closed for access, there is also a funary building complete with Crematoria.

Close to the city. Very famous temple and kept in the Thai Buddhist traditions. There are many famous monks who have stayed here. Beautiful Chedi that has 3 levels and statues of monks. The top level is for meditation. Not a tourist attraction but a real indication of what being a true monk and Buddhist is about. It is free and doesn't have people trying to sell you things free entry

Beautiful Thai temples
Located in the middle of the city there's a few sights to see in this area. Not to mention the lake with large inflatable ducks. It's the normal standard beautiful Thai temples you see everywhere.
Probably a good idea to go early because it gets so hot.
A little tip is if you take the tram card city tour from Central plaza around Udon Thani it takes you here with a 20 min break. These tours depart 11:30am and 2:30 pm from memory.

Has alot of stores if you want go shopping. And also have alot of food.
Fixed my phone who broke, was very easy there 1 hour and done.
Have all the big banks there and alot of ATM machines to take out money.
Overall a very good place to spend a few hours.
And if you have kids top floor have games and other things for doing.

The mall isn't cheap, but it has good airconditioning. So it is nice to look around during the hottest parts of the day.
They have brand stores, but also a lot of different kinds of food. Including some sort of food market which would have been a lot more enjoyable if they didn't put up a full sound system just to tell you about the food they're selling on this market. It is literally so loud you cannot even hear yourself when you try to speak.to each other. I would rate it 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't so absurdly loud. As an alternative you could go to the basement where you have something more of the likes of a food court. You buy all the food you want and then eat it at one of the tables.

Visited on a Monday in early October 2023. Is it the main shopping center in town? There are movie theaters, specialty stores, restaurants, food courts, game corners, and more. When I arrived after 10am, it was quiet, but by 2pm, the place was packed with people. Especially the food court and the relaxing plaza on the 4th floor? The place was packed with student-like people.
Prices are lower than in Bangkok, including the surrounding shops, so if you're a Thai-loving Japanese person visiting a major city, I highly recommend you visit here.

It's a modern big shopping complex with multiple storey. There are major brands of retailers here, including Mark & Spencer, Tag Hauer, Victoria Secret, Starbucks, H&M....etc. Supermarkets and Food Centre is in the basement. Top floor have a cinema and children's play entertainment. Restaurants are mostly on the 4th floor. There are also major banks on the 3rd. You can spend a whole day here without stepping out.

Like all Central's, I love them. Great selection of places to eat and different cuisines and some great market stalls to get the wife some decent clothes at reasonable prices.

This shopping mall is big and has popular shops and food places inside. They have Uniqlo, and Mcdonald's, KFC and Sizzlers if you're looking for a break on Thai food. There's plenty of food offerings at their food park as well. There's money exchange, cafes and shoe stores too.
Bathrooms are well stocked and clean. Udon Thani is a busy city and there is a university too so there's a lot of students and families shopping here.

Udon Thani's best (only?) Huge shopping mall.
The food court and other restaurants are very abundant and easy to use.
It seems that it also fulfills the function of Rotto's bus center.
The supermarket section is also a little expensive, but it handles relatively solid items.
If you come to Udon Thani, I think you will be taken care of once.

One of my absolutely favorite destinations when coming back from Isaan or arriving from SouthThailand before travelling on to Nongkhai.
Always worth a visit if you like totally friendly people around you, hundreds of shops and good Restaurants.

My absolutely Tip is RYUSHIN Sushi in Ground floor, next to the huge FoodCourt infront of my second favorite YAMAZAKI Bakery - Great Bread here, try the buns and the baguette.
.
RIYUSHIN is one of the best places of Sushi to go i know, and i am kind of Sushi addicted and travelled a lot. Its like a Sushibar in Tokyo. Taste is great and always new inventions on how to arrange this little things.... Check it out you won`t regret it

I walked by the food court as well as the floor with restaurants. There was a wide variety of food available. The restaurants upstairs were mainly Korean and Japanese food restaurants. In the food court on the ground floor, you have to purchase a food card and use it at the stalls. There is no cash being paid directly by the customer to the stalls.

This is Central Plaza, one of the first places we visited because we wanted to get some Thai baht. Has a food court on the ground floor with a variety of tasty, delicious, spiced foods. Yummy 😋 And a grocery store. Modern and pleasant in it's design.
The Train Night Market in Udon Thani is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. It's actually a combination of three night markets that come together near the Railway Station, offering an abundance of food and clothing options. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of local dishes from numerous food stalls, as well as shop for clothing, shoes, and jewelry. The market provides a great opportunity for people-watching and bargain-hunting.
Wow what a place. This place is huge I have never seen anything soo big that is opened every night. So much food to pick from and so many options. Also lots of other things to look at from shoes to jewelry. If you are looking for something then you will find it here. So many people here also so if you not a fan of being around people then don't come but you will be missing out on one of the highlights of Udon Thani

Great place for dinner. Many food stalls serving tasty food at reasonable prices. Unfortunately some of the tastiest foods are available for take away only. They have a bigger selection of clothing than UD Town night market. It's a good place to spend a few hours in the evening - shopping, eating, drinking, and people watching. Muxh more a local feel than UD Town. I only knock it down to 4 stars because the toilets aren't as modern as those at UD Town.

A large variety of "shops" selling Thai food, snacks, fruit etc. 90% of the shops are food oriented, plus some selling clothing, imported plastic stuff from China. There are eating places, some with live music. The food is, of course, very authentic Thai. Prices are very inexpensive...a basic dish with rice is less than 2 dollars . grilled whole fish with trimmings around 5 dollars.

Chao Pu Chao Ya Shrine in Udon Thani is a picturesque site located along the Nong Bua Lake, featuring vibrant pavilions and traditional oriental architecture. The shrine exudes a rustic charm that transports visitors to ancient times. Notable for its 99-meter-long golden dragon, the shrine comes alive during the Thung Si Mueang Festival in December.
A Taoist worship place. You seldom see Taoism in Thailand, this shows the strong influence of Chinese culture in this region.

Having read other reviews, I want to return here at night, but it was very nice if somewhat hot during the day. It's a small but beautiful shrine, and I loved the mosaic floor with its colourful stone inlays and design. The shrine is next to the lake, which has several pavilions above the water. These pavilions make for a nice shaded place to sit with a cooling breeze blowing in off the lake.

A beautiful shrine. We were there when the shrine members were doing there ritual for paying respect to pu (grandfather) and ya (grandmother). So we were lucky and we just tagged along. There were six spots to pay respect. The prayers were all in Chinese.

This like so many other temples in Thailand are immaculately presented.
This is a famous Chinese temple because of the strong cultural influences of the Chinese in this part of Thailand.
It's right next door to the Thai - Chinese cultural centre near UD Town. It's just on the other side of the railway tracks.
Or around a 15 min walk from Central Plaza area.
Some of the artwork is beautifully presented and in excellent condition.

I love the fountains and ponds here; it gives this place a sense of peace and relaxation. As soon as I approached the first pond, all the colourful fish came swimming towards me, I guess expecting food. Apart from the beautiful surroundings, it is also a culturally significant place. The museum describes the impact of Chinese entrepreneurial migrants on Udon in the late 1800s, bringing trade, mechanisation, and processing to the agrarian economy. The basement of the museum is dedicated to the life and achievements of Confucius.
Whilst this place is free to visit, I think it is only fair (if you enjoy the experience) to give a small donation. Tip boxes are available to do so. There are also several shops by the pond selling various items, garments, ornaments, etc.

Centrally located adjacent to Nong Bua Public Park and a short walk to UD Town, with ample car parking, so the location is super convenient too
The National Museum of Ban Chiang showcases the history of the region through displays of ancient artifacts like tools, pottery, and jewelry alongside dioramas. The exhibition is informative and well-organized, with written materials in both Thai and English and audio presentations in several languages. The staff are particularly noteworthy for their exceptional service, such as when a guard found a lost 20 baht bill and took it upon himself to track down its owner.
Highly rated museum with internationally validated information that was fun to walk around. The staff was helpful and eager to share insights. There is an audio tour and a video to provide additional background and context. The pottery and burial sites of the prehistoric people who lived here thousands of years ago are extremely significant archeological and anthropological findings on a global scale. To understand the impact of these findings in Southeast Asia, and Thailand in particular, is fascinating and wonderful. The ticket cost was 150B for foreigners and 30B for Thais. It's a UNESCO site.
Deborah Long — Google review
The exhibition was educational and we'll put together. What I really want to add is a story about the staff. They were all great but the gentleman who is pictured with my review was exceptional. While I was at the ticket booth at the entrance I accidentally dropped a 20 baht bill. Unnoticed I went into the museum. This guard found the money and tracked me down to return it. I am overwhelmed by his kind action and it is my hope that he is rewarded for his integrity and honesty. People like him make this world a better place.

The museum contains the collection and history of the archeological UNESCO heritage site of Ban Chiang. This area could be problaby traced back to the neolithic age (around 10,000 years ago). The common settlement is around the bronze age (3000-300 BC).

Spent a good 2.5 hours here. Helpful staff. Worth every penny! Pictures are allowed but no videos. There is also a nice lake adjacent to the museum. The walkable excavation site nearby is also worth visiting. There is a very old peepal tree in the complex. The town has its own charm but I advise not going much in the interiors since wandering dogs attack and there is no proper sidewalk.

When we arrived, we thought there were no lotus and its off season because theres no bloom at the docks, only the tiny green floating baby lotus plant. We rented a small boat since there's only 2 of us and our boatman took us to the lake itself with endless of pink, red and a few white lotus flowers in full bloom. There's a lot of different kinds of birds, most of them we have seen for the first time. Our boatman took us to some spots with really beautiful views for photos and turned the engine off. It was so serene hearing only the birds tweeting and surrounded by beautiful flowers and occasional cool breeze.
We cant get over this place even after we left, we spoke of it at the cafes and revisited our pictures and videos! A must see in Udon Thani!

Wonderful experience. We had a very patient driver who stopped many times and allowed us to see everything without rush. Beautiful lotus and also so many birds -amazing! Loved the experience. Rented larger boat to be able to sit to each other. Rather cold at sunrise we had jumpers on but socks and / or a fleece blanket would have been nice 👍🏻 wrap up 😀 highly recommended tour. Small boat for 2 is 300 THB larger boat for up to 6 people is 500 THB.

The lotus blossom will close up as the day get hotter. Come in the morning to see these beautiful lotus blossom.

Amazing experience, beautiful and calm. Important that the flowers open between 7 am and 11 am, to go after you will see only the lake and nothing else. Flowers only from december till february.

Amazing view of red lotus lake. definitely should go in the morning or you will be scorched. The boat costs 500 baht for 4 people. Not too expensive for me.
Iori Nozaki — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous. We went mid December so the flowers stayed open longer. Plan to go early morning, even in winter. The flowers begin to close as they warm in the sun.
The boat driver was kind and patient. Lasted about an hour. Boat could comfortably fit a party of 7.

I went here today early around 6.50 am. If you can go for the sunrise it would be awesome I think we just missed it. We took the boat for 2 people 150 per person. The driver helped with some nice photos. This is one of those places in the world that photos don't do justice. It's absolutely beautiful and a must do if in Udon Thani or nearby. November to February is the season to go.

Visit here around 10 am in the middle of Feb
Cool in the morning but a bit hot under the sunlight
500 baht per boat (loading for 6 people)
There're lotus for you to snap but would be more in Dec - Jan
Lots of bird to watch and many spot to take photos

One of most beautiful places you can visit if you are a nature lover like me. Millions of Lotus flowers around you, birds following the boat, a temple in the middle of the lake... Go early and only in the flower season December to end of February.

What a Wonderful experience. Just make sure you be there at least at 8.30 AM before most of the buses arrive. Lotus flower time is from November Till end of February.
Julia Scheuerer — Google review
You can go at sunrise but the lotus flowers are not full open in bloom. I were there at 930 at a weekday very quiet and so beautiful! 11000 acres of lotus flowers in bloom. I took a private big boat 500bth and the boat men made a lot of nice pictures for me :)

It is a 40 mins drive from Udon Thani Town. A boat for 6 persons is 500 Baht for 90 mins. The lily is in the middle of the lake and takes about 10 mins to reach.
The boat will stop for you to take pictures and admire the beautiful water lily. It is so tranquil with only the chipping of the water birds.
Do come early in the morning to enjoy the full bloom of the water lily.

ทะเลบัวแดง is the absolute BEST thing you can do in Thailand if you’re here during December-February. The lotuses do start to close up midday, so it’s been to be here around 6am so you can watch the sun come up and watch the lilies open. Absolutely other-worldly stunning!

Beautiful place to visit, we went out on the lake early December which was early in the season but already there were lots and lots of flowers. We stayed near the lake at Bua Daeng Homestay Resort which also has lotus in the ponds which are lit up at night with floodlights so we already saw them the night before. We plan to go out on the lake again in January when the flowers will be at their peak.
Phu Foi Lom National Park is an expansive ecotourism destination designed to preserve rare flora and fauna. Visitors can wander through vibrant gardens, explore various trails, and admire picturesque landscapes. The park also features dinosaur statues and offers picnic areas. While the visitor center may be closed, the park provides a free and accessible retreat from urban life. Located near Khon Kaen and Udon Thani, it offers easy access for a day trip or weekend getaway.
I couldn't believe this place was free to visit, the only negative was the visitor centre was closed and no information or leaflets available to provide a plan of the area.
The signposted viewpoint is actually not the best viewpoint; carry on up the road from the main site to find the best views.
There is a Caffè and Toilets in the Park. I think many Thai people come for the beautiful flowers and to have their photos taken with the flowers.
It looks like you can camp for free on the site, could see an office where you would pay.

Beautiful gardens
This is one of the many places you can incorporate into a day trip around the Udon Thani area.
Probably an hours drive from town and is about 600m above sea level.
The garden areas are not massive but there's enough there to be worth a visit.
The arrangements are very nice and colourful. The place is kept tidy and clean.
Maybe a morning visit would better as in the afternoon it's quite hot and not as enjoyable.

One of my favourite places not too far away from civilization - easy to reach from Khon Kaen and Udon Thani. Free entrance which these days is a rare find. A convenient drive up to the National park station and good paths up the mountain not too difficult even for the elderly, yet still natural. The temperature up on the mountain tends to be much cooler than down in the plains even though it isn't really that high at just some 600+ meters.

Great place for a short or day visit. Make sure to go when the season allows for water to be present. Food and snacks are sold at entrance. Many people brought their own food and ate along river. Can swim in the water up and down river. 40 baht entry fee per car. Waterfall is 200 meters from car park. My 65 year old mother made the walk but i had to help her as some points are steep. Public toilet 5 baht.
Steve Cooper — Google review
The waterfall was relatively easy to get to and signage was good. We didn't see much water even though it was the rainy season, and there was trash around the water path. Still, it's a placental area and not too bad.
Matthew Watkins — Google review
Not so well organized nor as beautiful as though so much promoted in many car-rental & map brochures. Could be better when there's much more water for the waterfall.

Animals from all over the world feature at this large zoo with transportation & a gift shop.
Under the circumstances with COVID there wasn’t many people when we went and the live attraction shows went on but at least we got to have the day to ourselves and have fun and see the animals the kids loved it we got to ride around in a golf cart that we hired which saved us from walking
Big Boy — Google review
Lots of animals. For 50 baht you can get food to feed the giraffes, elephants and deer (and sometimes other animals, but we were there in off season). Small water park. Bouldering is also available. You can rent a crash pad from a place right outside the zoo for 250 baht/day.
Emily Berlin — Google review
So today decided to go to the Zoo for a day out with the wife. I saw the star ratings and read a few reviews and that was it...we were on our way.
The place was quite easy to find and would have been a reasonably quick trip however seemingly every major highway is under construction here in the kingdom.
The zoo entrance and parking area is quite impressive and it is easy to find your way around.
The park is huge so they have shuttle services constantly circling the park dropping people and picking up from 10 stop points that have a particular group of "like" animals in various habitats.
There are a number of petting areas for the kids and many different animals to check out. I loved the fully enclosed aviary that you can walk through with various cool birds just walking around amongst the tourists.
Hippos, big cats, alligators, birds, great apes and various monkey species are just some of the animals you can view here.
The habitats are pretty clean, spacious with efforts made to recreate a more natural environment for the animals which I appreciated.
Getting around the park is quite easy. As mentioned you can take one of the multi seat shuttles 8 rows of 4 seats per row (that are never filled to capacity) as they have a fleet of least 8 shuttles circumnavigating the park constantly. Hop on when you want get off where you want...quite convenient really.
The cost is 30 baht per person.
If you want you can also rent your own golf cart (you drive it) which can carry up to 6 persons but be careful. The road ways are winding with a number of substantial hills. I saw 4 carts stopped on the hill and abandoned when they just didn't have enough oooomph left in the batteries for the final leg. Also they are so slow that you can easily burn up your rental time just trying to get your cart to go up the hills faster than you could lightly jog especially with a full load of 6 persons. 4 max trust me on this one :)
The price for the cart is 300 baht per hour.
The park entrance fee is 150 baht for foreigners per person.
Due to covid a number of exhibits and shows were not open but all in all it was still a nice day.
4 stars due the covid closures but I would consider bumping it during full operation.
Oh and PS.
There are many shaded areas at each of the ten zones with beverages and toilets at many.
JP Canada — Google review
The first time I visited here about 5 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised at how many animals there were, and how healthy they looked. It was a really great experience. I returned a couple years ago and there were less animals, and the habitats looked less vibrant, but it was still enjoyable. I visited about three weeks ago and it will be the last visit. My daughter even said she doesn't want to come back. There are now even fewer animals, and many exhibits are closed or "under renovation" with no sign of any work being done. The bears especially did not look well and two of them seemed to have a very uncomfortable skin condition.

Huge area with different attractions. On a high skywalk you can watch giraffes, zebras and ostriches. Kids can feed giraffes and elephants (20THB/portion). There's also a water park.

William Mitchell — Google review
The place is about 7-8 kilometers from the highway. The entrance has local food, grilled chicken and papaya salad for you to try.
Go inside the place looks old. The entrance fee for Thai people is 100 baht for adults, 20 baht for elementary school children, there is a golf rental fee of 300 per hour, a tram ride is 30 baht for adults, 15 baht for children.
There are not as many animals as before. The place is dilapidated, lack of improvement, clean bathrooms, good service staff. Quick service inquiry
Esther Jichaya — Google review
More than triple the price for people with white skin and now the buses are not free 80 baht each for thai adults and 40 baht for Thai children the whole place is a complete rip off the animals are in small enclosures seems really unfair. For the amount of money they charge the place should look nice but it looks terrible.
All the adult rides were not working in the waterpark so why charge 350 baht for white people it's very racist for what so I can lay on my own towel with no sunbed surely charging 350 baht you can afford to buy some sunbeds , no wonder I was the only westerner here and I certainly will not be coming back khon kaen zoo and scampark
Jim G — Google review
One of the best zoos I have ever seen, and certainly much better than the Bronx Zoo or the one in Washington, DC. They really put a lot of effort into recreating each animal's natural habitat and giving them as much space as possible. I love that you can rent a golf cart and drive around at your own pace.
Adam Rogers — Google review
We heard about this place from some friends and were not disappointed. It’s easy to get to. We found Google now takes you straight to the entrance. The layout of the zoo is in animal areas linked by short roadways. So they offer options of renting your own buggy or jumping on and off the regular open sided mini bus. We opted for the minibus as it meant no “backtracking” to collect the buggy after walking through an area. The whole day was pleasantly spent and made easy to handle the heat due to the well located, reasonably priced, snack areas scattered through the park. Definitely on our re-visit list!
Nik Bailey — Google review
We rented a golf cart to tour the zoo. I don’t know if you can just walk in, but it looks like you need to take a tram to the main area.
Pretty good overall, but seems a bit old. Some areas we drove through were closed down/abandoned.

The staff is helpful, friendly and polite. The animals have big enclosures. We got there at around mid day for the visit and it was very hot so most of the animals were hiding in the shade and sleeping so I definitely recommend a early morning visit.

Such a beautiful walk up to the temple! The steps are not steep but it's longer than it seems. It's a lovely walk up as the Buddha statue gets bigger and bigger in front of you. From the top, you get a good view of the never-ending stretches of land in front of the temple. Behind the temple, you can get a bird's eye view of the beautiful lake. There are benches and pavilions to sit around to enjoy the view.

Must visit if you are in the area, be careful if you decide to drive to the top of the mountain the road is quite narrow and winding with sharp curves. I was fortunate enough not to come across any other cars on the road either going up or down.
To locate the road to the top of the mountain pass the base of the stairs drive approx. 100m then take a left turn and drive approx. 700m to the top.
Vendors selling food and cold drinks by the car park. Toilets also available at the top of the mountain.
Excellent views of Ubolratana lake and the Buddha statues.
Must revisit the location and take some photos when the sun is setting over the lake.

The museum provides a glimpse into the overall history of Esaan (North Eastern) cultures spanning from early historical periods to present times. I'm actually interested in SE Asian history and this museum has potential if it were bigger but charging 100thb to foreigners for such a small place that can be seen in 15 minutes is a joke. It's not fair charging foreigners 500% more for a place that is nothing special. It shld be 40thb tops which wld still be double the price Thais pay. Contrary to past reviews though there's actually a lot of English descriptions in the place and some decent sculptures that are 1,000 years old plus. It's just so small there's no point coming here unless you're actually interested in this stuff. Being closed Mon and Tues also doesn't make it easier to visit if you are just passing they KK. Please stop thinking you are accomplishing something by overcharging foreigners, it just lowers people's opinion of Thailand

Plenty of art, photography, storyboards (static and interactive) and sculptures. Khon Kaen walking street is a vibrant market that offers a more relaxed and authentic Thai-style shopping experience compared to other touristy markets. Wat Nong Wang (วัดหนองแวง) is Khon Kaen city’s biggest, most important temple, and also its one must-see tourist attraction. It was founded in 1789, the same year the city was settled, though there are no old buildings left. It became a royal temple in 1984. About 55 monks and 225 novices live here.
It’s ordinary in most regards, except for the stunning nine-story Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon, a stupa unlike any other in Thailand. Many of the links below take you to other articles explaining the art in detail.
Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon
The ground floor is open 6am-5pm and floors 2-9 are open 8am-4.30pm.
Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon stupa was built to celebrate both the king’s golden jubilee (celebration of 50 years on the throne) and the two hundredth birthday of Khon Kaen city. It is 50m long on the side and 80m tall and has nine floors because he was King Rama 9. Construction was started in 1990 and it was inaugurated in 1996.
The idea for the stupa came from the highly respected Luang Paw Koon Kantigo, the then abbot. The design was inspired by the Eiffel Tower and the Shwedagon Pagoda, both of which he saw while travelling. The most important of the abbot’s ideas, however, is the stupa’s curved shape, chosen to be that made by a hanging fishing net – called a catenary curve in physics.
People’s ashes are kept in the stupas at each of the four corners and the naga-topped wall around the stupa. Before construction, when this area was still rice field, a naga came to tell a high-ranking monk in a dream that there was a naga breathing hole where the stupa was going to be built. So, the stupa was built about 10m from the original intended location and these naga were incorporated into the design.
The shape of the top part of the stupa was inspired by Phra That Kham Kaen stupa (notice the redented corners) north of the city and has a golden-colored vine pattern similar to that on the very important Phra That Phanom stupa in Nakhon Phanom province.
Ground Floor
The temple’s center of activity is the stupa’s ground floor, which has a Buddha relic inside a chamber with a nine-spired roof. Next to it is a life-like resin statue of Luang Paw Koon Kantigo, the previous abbot (Unusual, because these are normally made after an abbot has died, but this one was put here many years before.), and in the back is a copy of the Chinnarat Buddha (from Phitsanulok); two copies of Phra Kaew (the Emerald Buddha), one green and one orange; and a baby Buddha. They are facing west, rather than the usual east, because the original Chinnarat Buddha also faces west.
Along the northern wall is a table with 108 alms bowls (for donating 108 coins) and another full of daily Buddhas. The number 108 was important in ancient India and so it is found in many Buddhist stories, most importantly the 108 signs of perfection to show that he was the Buddha – this is also why there are often 108 symbols on the soles of many large Buddha footprints.

One of my favourite Temples in Thailand and definitely in the city of Khon Kaen. This Temple is a Khon Kaen land mark and tourist destination. It hosts 9 levels each with artworks, artefacts, shrines, and information much like a museum. Each level represents the ascension to enlightenment and there is a 360 degree view of the surrounding city on every level. The ground floor is the main floor where locals come to greet the monks and pray. I really like this Temple because of its beautiful architecture and surrounding grounds, the view of the city from each level, the artworks, artefacts and information scattered all around. Artworks include paintings that depict traditional every day Thai life, correct behaviour as taught by the scriptures as well as the story of the life of the The Buddha carved into the doors and window shutters. It is easy to spend a whole day here getting lost wandering around discovering new area's while viewing the surrounding city from one of the best vantage points in Khon Kaen.

This temple is a famous temple in Khon Kean. It is also a very unique temple in the way its built. There are 9 floors, all of which you may visit. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary to visit. This is the place. You can easily spend a few hours walking around the entire area.
Ty Hanson — Google review
Almost fourth time visit this place but never boring. I like the vibes around the temples. When I touch the highest floors, feel relax and fresh. I also can see whole Khon Kaen city above.
Wat Thung Setthi is a popular attraction in Khon Kaen, known for its distinctive gold and blue exterior, unlike the typical gold and red colors of other temples. The temple features beautiful white statues scattered throughout the premises. Located near Route 230, this relatively new Thai Buddhist temple translates to "Temple Millionaires Field," hinting that making merit here will bring prosperity.
A very beautiful temple that must visit! Unfortunately it is closed on Songkran 1st day.
Sneaked in and took as much pictures as possible. If given the time and opportunities there will be better pictures.

I came here on a bit of a last minute whim when Mama wanted to stop by to pray for a bit. Why not.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the main temple sitting in what appears as the middle of a small lake is impressive.
I really don't have much to tell with respect to the cultural meaning of the place as everything is in Thai only however luckily there are a number of Thai reviews here that give you a bit of background.
From my perspective many of the statues were very unusual depicting strange little creatures somewhere between human and NOT, seemingly guarding the shrines on the 4 corners of the main temple. My wife new little about the temple but mentioned that these are children caught between living in the real world and spirit world.
In general it is a great place for some photos and the awesome beauty of the entire grounds make for a nice place to check out.

Just like many temples in Khon Kaen, this one is a bit far off out of nowhere. It’s better if you arrange transportation for both coming and going as there may not be any grab available in the area. Awesome complex, feels almost like the Taj Mahal of khon kaen. Make sure you check out the basement space too!

But well worth the trip
It's my travel tip
Wat Thung Setthi means Temple Millionaire's Field, implying that people who make merit here are, or will become, millionaires. It is located at Ban Nong Hai near Mueang District of Khon Kaen province, and is a relatively new Thai Buddhist temple near the Route 230 ring road.

This is a very beautiful temple. Recently built; there are images on the windows inside the main temple with the black Buddha structure detailing different stories and lessons using modern day images (Disney characters) to make it more appealing and relatable to younger generations. Highly recommend 👍🏼

Beautiful temple/place , very quiet and relaxing, not so many staff around, so i recommend ask the staff before come in here, the sign is clear and directive, recommend coming here

This is an absolutely beautiful temple that is quiet and free to enter...see the stunning pictures that many people post. Even though I have been to dozens and dozens of temples, this one is extra special... Highly recommended and worth going the distance to.

Well worth a visit if you are in Khon Kean and only a few kilometers out of the city. The inscriptions on the glass windows explain the various elements of good versus evil (n Englush & Thai)

Beautiful temple based on principles of India. Beautiful and picturesque areas and really good morals to learn. There is also a heaven and hell part that is really good. Definitely worth a visit.
Dino Water Park is an attraction that offers aquatic entertainment for people of all ages. It is a park with a dinosaur theme, and it features various activities such as a wave pool, enormous slides, and rafting experiences. Visitors can partake in thrilling adventures while enjoying the water at this park. With its unique theme and array of exciting options, Dino Water Park provides an enjoyable experience for families looking to have fun in the water.
Excellent place to come and hang with kiddos!!! The kids slide area (pictured here) is fantastic, and really feels newly updated! The wave pool is huge, and super fun, too!! Right now you can pay only ฿200 for the wave pool and the giant kids play zone pictured here for the day. Then, it’s only an extra 200 baht for three big slides, but we had so much fun at the two previously mentioned spots, we didn’t even need to do that. Yes, as others mentioned in previous reviews, there are a lot of slides closed, probably a COVID season casualty, but the stuff that’s open is great, and a really great value! We’ll be back, Dino Water Park!
Chris Barbee — Google review
I used to bring my daughter here a few times a month before Covid. Since they’ve reopened, we’ve only been back three times. The first two times, it really wasn’t very clean, but I thought maybe they were still trying to recover from being closed for so long. I took my daughter today and I don’t think we will be coming back. The water was a very dark green color, not the clear/blue like it was before. It also had a very strange smell. We didn’t stay long, maybe an hour. It’s sad to see the park is not being taken care of the way it should be. They should shut down, clean and repair the park, then reopen. I think they would attract more people if this place was repaired and cleaned up. I have spoken to quite a few people, foreign and Thai, many of them refuse to go because the water is never clean.

Highly recommend this Dino water park! I took our kids to the park and they had a blast. They have so many variety of water slides!

Perry Hobden — Google review
The first moment I thought this Park seems really nice. I best describe it in plus and minus points:
+ beautiful rides
+ wave pool has white sand around and a nice blue colour
+/- 600 baht (£15) is not expensive for a water park but expensive for Thailand
- staff doesn't speak English
- there are no signs explaining what equipment you need to carry up to the slide. E.g. Spaceshuttle requires to wear a helmet but no signs telling you that.
- I hurt myself on every slide due to badly designed water flow
Elia Franke — Google review
The water is not clean but the kids didn't care. Majority of slides working. Wave pool is good. Everyone was satisfied with the experience.
But some extra maintenance and cleaning is required to make it acceptable to tourist's.
Graham Young — Google review
Fun for the whole family. A lot of room. Not crowded but a lot of people.

Visited weekday (Thursday). Only half the rides open . Friday to Sunday Park fully open.
Great fun for the kids
Shade , food and drinks for the adults
Brent Hopkins — Google review
Checked the water park website today. It said it was open and not too busy. Travelled to Khon Kaen for the day to visit the water park and it was closed. The security guard said it was closed for the week for repairs, from looks of things it had been closed a lot longer. This information should be posted on their website so people do not waste their time. Disappointing!
Travis Humphreys — Google review
All coasters are out of function, except the ones in the kids water land and the wave pool is operating (maybe because of the season?) I'm sure the kids gonna have a blast of fun, but that would also be the only reason for going here (to drain your kids energy), not much for adult when all the coasters is closed. Food and drink options limited, but okay. You are not allowed to bring food and drinks. Current price: 200 adult (foreign and Thai) kids under 90cm get in for free. If no swimming half price.
Flemming Silleborg — Google review
Plenty of potential but mostly run down. Out of the many water slides and pools only 2 are working. But these are working ok.
Also they need to sign post directions as it's hard to find even with google maps.

As opposed to some of the other reviewers here, I fully understand why this park does not have many visitors - it is a straightforward scam! We paid full price at the entrance, to find out many of the attractions are not in operation any more. Entrance fee is already quite expensive (THB 500 for us per person) while the park has certainly seen better times. On top of that, you get this feeling they are taking any chance to rip you off after you have already entered the park. Of course a place to sit for a family is not included in the entrance fee! The so-called 'cabana', a few wooden benches with a table and roof will cost you THB 400 and another THB 200 deposit (no idea why), wood splinters in your hands and feet included. You basically have no other choice but to rent this thing anyways, I mean who wants to sit in the sun for several hours at 33 degrees! Some of the waterslides are a safety risk to me, at least I got my back injured on one of them. Food and water are unnecessarily expensive, and of course you cannot bring your own inside. They are charging THB 20 for a small bottle of water. I hope some people will read this review before going, so I can save you the money, time and help you avoid exposing your children to this unsafe place.
This is a gorgeous place for visit and know the history in Thailand. Beautiful structure 🤩🤩🤩

It is worth a visit. it's about 45km from Khon Kean. It's a small ruin, so you can walk around it in half an hour or spend 2 hours just taking in the tranquil beauty of the buildings.
Prasat Puei Noi or “Phra That Ku Thong” is the largest historical site in the region. In the Khon Kean Province, it is more than 800 years old. It is assumed that it was built between the 11th and 12th centuries. Combining the Khmer arts of Bapuan and Angkor Wat. To be used as a place of worship for performing rituals.
According to Hindu (Brahmin) beliefs, the plan is Mount Meru. which is considered the axis of the universe, which is the dwelling place of the gods called "Sasana Banphot," in front of which the main prang's crypt is carved.
It is a Nagarat shape with a beautiful pattern. The lintel is carved with the image of Narayana Banthomsin. which is still in good viewing condition, complete there is also the Kachalakshmi lintel considered that this is the only place that faces west, (all other buildings face east) and the door is closed. This is different from the general religious place in front of the gopura, and there is a door to pass through for good fortune.
There is no entrance fee, and there was no one else viewing.

There is no cost to enter. It is in the middle of a grass field next to a pond. Very tranquil location there was a mother and her young boys who left shortly after we arrived so we had the place to ourselves. Very glad we made the effort to get here. We caught the train from Khon Kaen to Ban Phai and there engaged a private driver to take us to the ruins wait and then drive us back for 1000 TBH.

The huge holy sacred banyan tree with incredible scene under the its shade. Shady and feeling cool. There are many shrines inside this place. A little market at the entrance. 350 year old banyan tree not fast from the historical park. If you have a spare hour or 2 in Phimai it’s worth a visit but wouldn’t go out of the way to come here. It’s very cool and peaceful. Lots of picnic tables and chairs to sit under the tree and relax. There are also a few vendors selling food, souvenirs and fish to release into the water.

The Phimai Historical Park is a rectangular temple complex filled with intricate carvings and stone sculptures. It is an impressive Khmer ruin located in Thailand, known for its grand scale and detailed designs. Built as a Mahayana Buddhist temple, it features carvings of Hindu deities and design elements similar to those found in Angkor Wat.
This place was stunning!
I remain amazed - after visiting ancient ruins in other countries - how much of this complex was accessible to the public. There’s not really anything off limits, and only the normal rules binding visitors to decency in a holy site.
The structures are all incredible, and the details truly ornate. Plan at least a couple of hours to wander and soak it all in.
There is a higher density of visitors here than some of the other sites we’ve visited, but for good reason.
It’s an amazing feat of human engineering, and something worth witnessing first-hand.

This is a smaller version of the Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It is worth stopping at if you are in the area. I would take some water along as climbing up and down all the stairs "rocks" in the heat will make you thirsty. The stairs are not bad there are few steps but many stairs. It took us abount an hour and a half to walk it all. Take cash its 100 bht a person.

The wonderful Khmer cultural sanctuary. The largest ancient Khmer temple in Thailand. It was taken care of very well. The inside has beautiful scenery, clean and a lot of photography corners. I really enjoyed my visit to Phimai Historical Park. The temple is a beautiful example of Khmer architecture and the carvings are simply stunning. It was fascinating to learn about the history of the park and the Khmer people.
I would recommend Phimai Historical Park to anyone interested in history, culture, or architecture. It is a truly impressive site that is well worth a visit.
Specific comments about your suggestions:
The parking is very limited. I would recommend parking at the main entrance and walking to the temple. The walk is about 10 minutes and is a great way to get a feel for the park.
The entrance fee is 20 baht per person for Thai nationals and 100 baht per person for foreigners.
The museum on site is a great place to learn more about the park and the Khmer people. It is well worth a visit if you have time.

Historical park, set in the town of Phimai (Prasat Hin Phimai) is definitely worth a visit. You can experience the remains of a Khmer style temple without having to leave Thailand. I have been to Angkor Wat (in Cambodia), and the similarities are amazing. This is considered the largest Khmer temple in all of Thailand.
This project is just great. The team is always very open to the discussion around elephants, their conditions ... I advise all lovers of elephants to go support project and spend at least 1 week . These shows typically run for approximately 30-40 minutes and feature various activities such as elephants engaging in football, painting, and playing darts. Visitors also have the opportunity to experience an elephant ride, capture memorable photos with these majestic creatures, and enjoy up-close interactions with them.

Visit 20th March 2022. I turned around and drove away. For being the Royal animal of Thailand they are not treated so Royal. Chained up with little room to move. Surely build better humane places to house your Royal animal. I have visited other elephant parks in Thailand and they do much better. Its a shame you don't see the many statues of elephants around with leg chains. Then it might convince companies like Chang Beer to donate to fix the problem. I would give 0 stars if I could. No photos - too distressing.

Located in Ta Klang Village of Kra Pho sub-district. From the north of the city, go along Highway No. 214 (Surin-Roi Et) and turn left at the 36th kilometre to the Ta Klang Village.
The villagers are formerly Suay or Kui people who are skilful in rounding up, taming and feeding wild elephants. Most mahouts have to go to round up the elephants at the Cambodia border. Nowadays, although the rounding up decreased because of the political problem, the villagers still feed and tame the elephants for the annual show of the province. They feed elephants like being their friends and children, not like people in the north who feed elephants for working. Travellers who are interested in the elephant show, please contact in advance at Tel. 0-4451-2925, 0-1878-1221 or 0-1977-6304
The entrance fee for the Elephant Study Centre is 100 Baht each for foreign tourists and 50/20 Baht for Thai tourists. The elephant ride is 200 Baht for foreigners and 100 Baht for Thais. The ride lasts about 20 minutes. There are two elephant shows daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Below there is a map showing the location of the elephant village. It should be noted, that during the period of the annual elephant roundup, you probably won’t find many elephants at this village.
Thai people have lived in harmony with elephants as both working partners and friends for a long period of time. Since the old Sukhothai Kingdom during the reign of King Sri-inthratit, up to the present day King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the elephant has been the 'court animal' of the royal families.
A survey conducted by the Royal Forestry Department in 1994 showed that 5,548 elephants remained in Thailand. Of this number 1,975 were living within wildlife sanctuaries and national parks National Parks, while 3,573 were domestic elephants. Among the domestic elephants, 1,500 were working in logging camps, while about another 1,000 were dotted all around the country. The main places were domestic elephants are found nowadays in Ban Ta Klang, Krapho Sub-district, Tha Tum District, Surin Province. Here there is a long history and tradition of raising elephants going back several generations, although there are only 180 elephants living in the community. Most of the elephants seen plodding along the streets of Bangkok and those in tourist sites or amusement parks come from this community.
Elephants from Ban Ta Klang take part in the Elephant Round-Up in Surin once a year, where many people come year after year for the festivities. The Tourism Authority of Thailand in cooperation with Surin Province, Elephant Conservation and Protection Foundation and other organizations are joining hands in developing and elephant village as a new tourist attraction, with an elephant performance being staged every Saturday between 09.30 - 11.00 am. This will be better for the elephants and the mahouts, as they will no longer have to trudge disconsolately around the smelly cities.
Any visit to Thailand will be incomplete without a visit to Ban Ta Klang Elephant village in the province of Surin. The village comprises of people from the ancient tribe of Kui, and they have been rearing these gentle giants for hundreds of years. This area is highly conducive for elephants as it has the plants and grass that elephants like eating. During the Ayutthaya period, the people from the village used to send the elephant feed to the king so that they were not recruited for wars. This was like a form of tax against being drafted.

Our mistake. This is a tourist amusement park. Unfortunately the elephants do not roam free and are chained. Wasted our day driving here. Location should be closer to the main road. Our choice we left after seeing the baby elephant chained away from its mother. If you really care for them then you should really care for them
My opinion.

A must see for everyone!! Elephant shows, rides, etc. Wow, and they paint, too. Fun for the whole family.
