Pension Na Kovárně
Boarding house
We stayed on 19.11.2023, and it is a very beautiful 16th-century house that recently renovated . The room is very clean and tidy, provided with strong hot water for bathing. The breakfast is good with a lot of choices, even at low and not much customer, the owner also prepared scrambled egg and sausages for us and very tasty. The owner is very nice and helpful, The most important point is location , it is located at the entrance of the beautiful town and akso a short distance to the bus station, if you carry with large luggage it can avoid the difficulties to carry the luggage to pass through those rocky roads within the town.

We had a very nice time during our 2 nights stay at this inn from 5,Feb. this year. The owner is so helpful and welcoming. Everything we asked through WhatsApp they always do their best to help us. The tasty breakfast as well as its excellent location are also bonus for the pension. Sure is the best choice for you to stay in Cesky Krumlov!

We decided to stay another night than expected, and couldn't extend our AirBnB, so we booked a room here just one day ahead of time. Cozy rooms, affordable pricing, and very responsive staff - even with the language barrier. The location is right at the entrance to the historic city center, and was incredibly convenient.

Peres Castle is a neo-renaissance royal residence in Romania, located in the mountains of central Transylvania. Completed in 1873, it was commissioned by Romanias first king, Carol. Today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Romania and features hundreds of paintings, sculptures and objets d'art.
A must see when in Romania. Magnificent Palace in the middle of wonderful nature.
Nice history as well (although shortly lived) and the decoration inside is brilliant. I liked the main hall with the great combination of marble, woodwork and carpeta. Also, the huge mirrors are pretty impressive for their time.
I only did the short tour (no extra rooms) but I think it was sufficient.

A must-see for any Romanian or foreigner! The way the furniture was decorated/built shows how seriously the art of sculpture used to be taken. Props to the architects and carpenters! It's a marvelous building. Unique and breathtaking. It takes about an hour to visit the entire palace. Very nice staff, they let us visit the top floors despite being slightly late! Thank you for a memorable experience!!

As an architect I really adore this castle. Nearly every room embodies a different historical style, one could practically teach architectural history by touring it. The outside is gorgeous as well, with a well decorated garden and excellent mountain view. Strongly recommend.

The Castle is preserved in good condition.
Interiors are interesting and there are a lot of items to explore.
If you are visiting during a weekend or a public holiday prepare to spend a lot of time in a queue, even if you have bought tickets online in advance.
There are no guided tours as far as I know, only audio guides.

This is definitely the most amazing and castle in Romania. It's a must see if you visit this country.
It has a lot of beautiful details and furniture.
The downside is that some rooms are not open like the theater room which is amazing in pictures, and the fact that most descriptions are not translated in English and other languages
Traian Mihalache — Google review
A very disappointing experience.
After we bought a parking permit for 5 Euros and received no ticket or other proof of payment, we walked up to the castle. A long way with no resting places, no benches, or other possibilities to sit down and rest.
Outside the castle, in the surrounding area, some buildings are better looking than others. You can immediately see that the restaurants and cafes are somehow limited to price, offer, and space.
Positive: it is a national cultural treasure built by the Romanian nation, now re-owned by the former royal family who used to rule the country.
Negative: the administration of this place with all the sides and effects of such lousy management.
Suggestions: the entry ticket should include in the price the entire castle and not just a part. You have to pay more than double to visit the other sections, which is wrong.
Recommend: it depends! If you haven't visited it before, yes, you should see it. If you did, don't mess up your good memories.

It is a magnificent Castle with its surrounding buildings and Garden. They charge a separate fee per floor to visit the castle. I'm warning you in advance. Don't waste money on the top floor (floor 2). I'm uploading the photos of all floors. Please check. The other two floors (I mean option 1 ticket) are more than enough. The castle closes at 17.00, but ticket sales end at about 16.00. Check out the photos I've uploaded regarding ticket prices and hours. Parking is 30 lei.

Seriously like a fairytale. Magical place to visit, if you can ignore the thousand tourists. Some really amazing pieces of memorabilia inside, and of course the castle and it's surrounding are just superb. The only reason for the one star deduction is the 50 Lei that we were charged for parking and the rude attendant charging it. Absolute scam

Wonderful and beautiful place. The territory is cleaned, there are many places for photos and in general the atmosphere is excellent. The castle itself is impeccable, the interior is richly and beautifully decorated. Beautiful furniture, chandeliers and mirrors. You can pay separately for visiting the first floor, or two, or the entire castle at once. Children really like this place. I hope to return.

Beautiful castle, outside and inside. Perfect location as well, natural place, nice promenade to the castle. Luxurious piece of architectural and historical jewlery. Be careful and leave the area before the night comes, as bears might appear, there is forest all around and brown bears sometimes come lured by the trash bins.
Deea Di — Google review
Beautiful place, with interesting story. But does not look like Romania, looks like Bavaria, but it worth visiting. From my point of view Bran’s Castle is better, it really looks like a medieval castle.
Ramiro Machado — Google review
We visited with a group and a tour guide and we didn't regret it! The castle is truly amazing and it's definitely worth paying the ticket to see it from the inside! It was a great experience. everything has been preserved so well, it's impressive! I definitely recommend you visit it! Probably buy the ticket online if you're not with a group. We were there pretty early and also with a group so we didn't have to wait long, but I imagine already having a ticket will speed up the process !

One of the most beautiful castles I have ever been to. The king lived here in the beginning of the 20th century, and that really shows! The interior is worth a visit for sure - there are exquisitely preserved rooms, with a fantastic range of styles.
Harald Ringbauer — Google review
Great castle. Loved all the wood throughout and the mixture of cultures seen throughout the art and furniture pieces. Not a huge castle, can get done in 15-30min. I would recommend bringing a student ID card even if you're coming from overseas, the discount is a great deal.
Nicole Valladares — Google review
The beauty and scenery of this place is truly breathtaking. Of course it was absolutely PACKED with people and so busy. It’s interesting to hear the history of this place and later grab a coffee (pricey) with the view of the castle.
Definitely worth going!

The Peleș Castle is truly awesome and makes for an amazing day trip when you're visiting Romania with your family. It's worth planning an entire day for this visit because there's so much to see and do.
First, you'll need to walk up for about 20 minutes, especially if you're unlucky and have to park your car farther down. However, this uphill walk through the forest on a cobblestone path is quite pleasant. Once you ascend, you can grab a snack like boiled or fried corn and apples in a sweet red syrup, so you don't need to worry about skipping lunch.
Pro tip: When you spot the castle, you can take a shortcut by crossing the grassy area leading to it. Not many people do this, but it saves you time, and you can overtake those following the predefined road. Upon reaching the castle, you should get your tickets, and they don't mind whether you purchased them online or not; everyone goes through the same line. The prices are 59 for the first floor, 100 for the second, and 150 for the third. We opted for the first and second floors, which proved to be more than sufficient. Consider bringing your student ID as it may get you a discount. The castle is stunning and incredibly interesting to explore, well worth the money. However, by the end of the second floor, you might start to feel a bit tired, and you'll notice similar things, so it's perfectly fine to stop there.
The castle's garden is also exceptionally beautiful and offers plenty of photo opportunities. Additionally, there's a souvenir shop on-site.
Pro tip:
• Make sure to use the shortcut to the castle
• See two first floors
• Bring your student card
• Wear comfortable shoes

A truly magnificent and picturesque location. The grounds are immaculately maintained, with ample photo opportunities and an overall enchanting ambiance. The castle itself is nothing short of resplendent, its interior adorned with opulent and exquisite décor. Exquisite furnishings, lavish chandeliers, and gleaming mirrors adorn the halls. Visitors can opt to explore either the first floor, both floors, or the entire castle at their leisure. Children will be particularly enchanted by this enchanting site. I eagerly anticipate returning to this gem.

Incredible castle. The detailed craftsmanship in each room is just astounding. I loved seeing the different styles in each room. We went with a guide and had limited time but if I went again I'd add on the optional second floor to see more. We also went to Pelisor, and recommend doing that - it can be seen quickly if you have limited time.

Peleș Castle is an architectural gem in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania. Built in the neo-romantic style, this impressive castle exudes a beauty rarely seen. With its exceptional architecture and intricate details, Peleș Castle captivates you at first sight. Among the fascinating historical facts, it served as the summer residence of the kings of Romania and as a meeting place for famous personalities from around the world. Its construction began in 1873, commissioned by King Carol I, and was completed in 1914. I heard an interesting saying about King Carol I, that goes "The greatest Romanian was German".
Personally, I have never seen a castle quite as impressive. Every corner exudes a unique elegance, and its richly decorated interior transports you to another era. Peleș Castle is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful castles in the world and an unforgettable destination for anyone passionate about history and architecture.
The Black Church in Brasov is a grand Gothic church, renowned for its unique architecture and rich history. Its name derives from a fire that occurred in the 1600s. The interior of the church is adorned with murals and Ottoman rugs, adding to its atmospheric gothic vibe. A visit to this iconic landmark is recommended for anyone visiting Brasov. It's not just a religious site but also serves as a historical attraction filled with valuable information about the city's past.
The Black Church is a must-see if you are going to Brasov. It's a big quiet place, filled with history and information. The church is built in a Gothic style and it reflects the architecture of the city. You can also go on a little "easter-egg" hunt in order to find the statue of the falling child.

A great experience! A beautiful church, a lot of history that takes you for a couple of moments back in time.
A lot of German writings that impress through the meaning of it, but also through the old language used previously.
Highly recommended when in Brasov to visit the church.

Beautiful, striking gothic church just at the back of the main square in the old town. Pay for tickets (20 lei for adults) in the small shop opposite the main entrance.
The church has beautiful high vaulted ceilings and beautiful carpet decoration and murals. Well worth a visit to gain some history to Brasov.

Great, solemn building. Has the feeling of a museum more than that of a church. And it is. Entrance requires a fee. Still, very much worth going inside.

Big building. Very cold inside. The inside air is antique ❤️Beautiful architecture. Great history. Tickets cost as 20 lei Ro each.
Easy to find.
Stela Caraus — Google review
A very amazing place, you need to pay a ticket in the little room in front but the church is very well kept, with a lot of sign and history, we can see it was built by the catholic, but it then became protestant, and the whole story is written there, a very beautiful place full of history...
i highly recommend if you love history and you can also enjoy the beautiful town of Brasov.

Nice church with tons of history. Lots of trilingual information inside. Many beautiful statues and historical spots. Pity it's just 1 floor. It's definitely worth checking out. Tickets are 20LEI

A must see when you are in Brasov. Tickets: 20 lei for adults 10 lei for students. Is a quick visit at just one level (ground level) 15-30 minutes. The Black Church is a monument full of history, inside is cold and smells like old wood. The pieces of art (picture, sculpture) are interesting to observe and the huge organ is a unique view.

Always a pleasure to return to the most Eastern Gothic cathedral in Europe, magnificent proof of more than seven centuries of Saxon (Sachsen to be very precise) civilization in Kronstadt~Brasov, in the South-Eastern tip of Transilvania~Siebenburgen. Beautifully restored several years ago and carefully preserved by a small but vibrant German community, proudly surviving in the heart of 2021 Romania.
Silviu Radulescu — Google review
So simple and clear design. Unlike in France, you need to buy ticket to visit this church, which is a good way to raise money to maintain these beautiful buildings (why don't we do the same in France ?).
The explanation of the church history is quite well done, in 3 languages, with some very interesting and beautiful tombstones.
Coming from Bulgaria, with many Orthodox churches , the contrast is striking. The Romanian Lutheran churches are very straight forward, beautiful.
Xavier Gaubert-Amy — Google review
Amazing building and was made from bulgarians. It was very spectacular. Hope next time we can see inside too.
Elica Kircheva — Google review
Visiting the Black Church in Brasov was an awe-inspiring experience that left me utterly mesmerized. This imposing Gothic marvel, also known as Biserica Neagră, is an architectural gem nestled in the heart of the picturesque city.
The Black Church's location in the heart of Brasov's historic center makes it easily accessible, and its towering spires can be seen from various vantage points around the city. Be sure to explore the charming square that surrounds it, filled with cafes and shops offering a delightful taste of Transylvanian culture.
Whether you are a history enthusiast, an architecture aficionado, or simply a traveler seeking a moment of serenity, the Black Church should be at the top of your list. It's a place where the past meets the present, and where the beauty of human creativity and devotion truly shine. Don't miss the opportunity to witness this Gothic masterpiece; it's an experience you'll treasure forever.

Brasova is the place I regret not being able to get into. It was closed when we arrived as there was a long traffic jam on the road. but it also has a very magnificent and intriguing appearance from the outside.

A stunning piece of architecture and a must visit site when in Braşov. This is a really large structure that is stunning and stands out greatly. There is a really nice little store attached to the church that is great for souvenirs and gifts.

Great historical place with information in several languages. Second time I visit the church, first time in 2007, and it have become much better information wise than previously. The 20 lei entrance fee is not a bother as it is well worth the visit.
Clabbe Bjurström — Google review
Majestic gothic cathedral. The exterior is centuries old. Don't miss the impressive organ on the inside. You have to buy tickets from the gift shop across the street, opposite the main entrance.
Stavros Tzelos — Google review
One of the best churches I have ever been in. Although the entrance isn't free, and inside it's very cold, I can say that it is worth it to visit the church once and look at all the paintings.
The Chosen One — Google review
Not great, not terrible. Just an average experience.
Don't be fooled by the reviews on the internet; most of them are written by Romanians who love their country and do their best to promote it; in addition, in Romania we don't really have awe-inspiring castles and cathedrals, so it is understandable why someone who has never traveled to Western Europe is impressed by this church.
I'm not saying that the monument is not worth a visit, I am only saying that the entire experience could be a little disappointing for someone who has seen the majestic european cathedrals.
Positive points:
- those who appreciate organ music (not my case) can attend the numerous concerts organized in the church
- the collection of carpets
- finally, money was found for the restoration of the statues on the exterior wall of the church

Bran Castle is a 14th-century royal residence and alleged inspiration for the legend of Count Dracula. The fortress is located in Brasov, Romania and has been a popular tourist destination for centuries.
Very cool and cozy castle. Fascinating history and beautiful surrounding scenery. Well restored and maintained. Interesting and informative narrative on folk superstitious beliefs. Additional fee elevator ride down was cheesy and disappointing, don’t waste your money on this part. Interesting items in gift shop.

Cool site to visit. It is definitely a place where most tourists will be so be prepared for a lot of visitors taking photos etc. i suggest buying a ticket ahead of time so you can skip the line when the site opens. Also be prepared to walk. The entrance alone is a pretty steep walk before reaching the castle. All in all it’s a cool place to visit.

Lovely castle with a huge garden and nice park. I will recommend to be visited in summer as it looks great. As it's promoted as Dracula's Castle I think it would be nice to have more details about the history of DRACULA. The tour doesn't take too long and at the end you'll find a gifts shop for buying some souvenirs.

Fiind din Judetul Brasov, Branul este o atractie importanta atat pentru judet, cat si pentru Romania. Castelul este foarte frumos si are in spate o intreaga istorie.
Merita sa-l vizitezi macar o data!

Being from Brasov County, Bran is an important attraction both for the county and for Romania. The castle is very beautiful and has a whole history behind it.
The entrance price for an adult is 65 lei and if you want a guide, you pay another 25 lei.
The ticket seems quite a lot to me, compared to a few years ago.
There are quite a few impressive sights in our country, even more beautiful than Bran Castle and it doesn't cost that much.
It is worth visiting at least once!

We all know the legends. It has the vibe, the beauty. The Bran city is very cozy and nice to spend some time in. In the castle there is place to sit and have something to eat or drink. You buy tickets at the front gate. There is three levels of your. The basic and two others with tour guide. Even if you buy the basic one, you can upgrade once you are inside.

A wonderful experience. Although the castle it self is not anything spectacular to see, the atmosphere is amazing. The castle is situated near a lake full of green while there are many small shops with souvenirs and quick traditional food that you can taste. Tickets are easy to get and relatively cheap. There is a 5 min que thought to enter inside.

Go with the tour guide because that's the only way you can get and understand a lot of additional details about the history of the castle and each room. One of the most visited sites in Romania, I have to say it's really worth the trip! Gorgeous mountainside location, the castle is really beautiful and greatly preserved and the "time tunnel" is highly entertaining with all modern technology to throw you back in medieval days filled with scary stories and brave knights and princesses. Loved it!
Alina M. — Google review
It's okay. Very nice and well preserved castle. I don't like the atmosphere there. Vampire story is just made up to bring more tourist to the castle and get as much profit as they can. If you really know the history of king Vlad, nothing makes sense and actually then you discover his castle is even in completely different place. Fact that some American guy (current owner) just made some cheap and overcrowded attraction from this beautiful historic place is sad. Ticket price is definitely too high comparing to what you can see in other castles in this region.
Is it worth to see? If you love castles as I do then you may consider it. There is plenty of tourists and kids making this place hard to enjoy. But there are some quiet places, especially at the gardens :)

It was raining when we went, but it helped that there was no line at the entrance and we got in in 2 minutes. You can get a ticket at the entrance, it's easy and very fast. It takes 20-25 minutes to see everything in the castle. There is a very nice park next to it and from there you can take great pictures.

I found my visit to Bran Castle, also known as Dracula's Castle, to be intriguing and historically significant. The architecture and surrounding landscape were captivating. However, the tour lacked depth and could have provided more comprehensive information about the castle's ties to Vlad the Impaler. Overall, it's a decent experience for those interested in history and folklore.
Daniela Dahan — Google review
The castle was amazing to visit, all the rooms and imagining how it used to be a long time ago, that was great. The interior courtyard with the fountain is also amazing. Exiting through the elevator outside is cool. There were A LOT of people though, it would have been more enjoyable if there were less people in order to enjoy the rooms more but still it was worth it. Long, long queue to enter
Gina Barta — Google review
Overall a very nice experience but rather crowded. Maybe it would be better to have time slots as there was quite often a queue to get from one room to another. Otherwise, very nice and well maintained. The garden area is also good for a walk. Also, it’s a steep walk to the entrance of the castle.
Susanna Müller — Google review
I had higher expectations before visiting the famous “Draculas Castle”.
The fact that it’s incredibly busy does not help either as you can barely walk and everyone walks over each other.
The most interesting thing is the outside of the castle and the torture room with graphic pictures.
Generally even the few furniture that’s inside is not even original as the castle was empty and they had to buy furniture to fill it in solely for the tourist attraction.
I would definitely not go back again! One time is enough!

This castle encapsulates two captivating tales: the legend of Dracula and the enchanting history of Queen Marie of Romania. The time tunnel provides an immersive experience, transporting visitors through the ages. However, the true magic of this destination lies in its breathtaking natural surroundings, which offer an unforgettable aesthetic experience.

A beautiful castle and location. The supernatural themed displays in the attic of the castle are interesting and atmospheric. However, the section of the castle that is open has some very small rooms. Large numbers of people are present and there is a lot of overcrowding and pushing. For disabled people there are many many narrow winding staircases, many without ropes or rails. I saw a lift but I have no idea if its accessible to disabled people. Finally, if you are a larger person there are some exceptionally narrow and low ceiling corridors which could be very difficult to access. Its very beautiful but very busy.

Impressive castle in Bran, Romania. Interesting history, and the museum aspect is good, too. Lots of Dracula-themed features, which are amusing. We spent around an hour or so walking around the castle, and it's mainly linear, so it is easy to navigate. Worth a visit if you're in Bran. Tickets can be purchased at the foot of the castle, and payment can be made by cash or card. Under 7s are free entrance.

Very nice. But there's much nicer castles in Romania. The time I went there, there was so many people that the experience was not so nice. I wished to leave, and avoided seeing some parts. I went a saturday around 2pm, i guess I will try to go another time when there's less people. There's night excursions that you can arrange for a group. I recommend to go during the week or finding a time when it is not so crowded. People stacked everywhere, you have to walk very slowly and it's a constant flow, so you can't even wait until it's over. When this happens, It's not even nice to take pictures.

It's a cool castle located in a beautiful countryside. If you buy a ticket online in advance you don't have to wait in a line outside (costs about 9-10€). I was expecting it to be more "Dracula themed" but it has little to do with that besides the few pictures and some notes from the writer. It has an interesting Museum of torture (you have to buy a separate ticket to enter that area it costs around 2€)
It was a bit crowded when we were visiting.

It's a beautiful castle and it's been turned into a real tourist attraction. The grounds all have signs to shops, restaurants and inside the castle you follow a set path. All around the castle are little Souvenir shops and some snack stalls. We went on a Thursday and arrived at 4:50pm, there was a really long line. The castle stops selling tickets at 6pm, but it seems that people who get in late can hang around and explore. We got in around 5:30 and were able to explore and shop at the museum shop even at 6:30pm. It took us 1 hour to see everything, but others definitely stayed around a bit more. By the time we left the restaurant was closed, so if you want things to be open make sure to get there early as parking around the area can be tough in high season.
Some stairs and hallways are very small so if you're claustrophobic be aware.
The castle has 2 additional add on to the standard self tour: tower/tunnel that looks like a long elevator down and the medieval torture devices.
We did the medieval torture devices add on and it was a few rooms with replicas and some legitimate devices and explanations.
The history and the views are worth it :)

Very cool! The tour is an hour and you see a well upkept piece of history with the Dracula legend attached. There were some creative components woven into the tour so it wasn't all just dry history. Also, there is a tour of the torture chamber and the Time Tunnel is short but creative. The grounds are beautiful and the sights looking from the castle and looking at it are awesome. Definitely recommend.

Super cool castle. Took about 1 hour to tour with taking time to read most plaques. They are in English.
The time tunnel at the end took 2 minutes. Kinda cool but not necessary. It's just an unique exit.

I really enjoyed this castle visit despite the hordes of other tourists. It's smaller than the typical castle with many rooms furnished to mimic the original look it historically added. They have a small section about monsters and myths that's fun too.

It’s an amazing castle with stunning views, would definitely recommend a visit. We didn’t have to queue to get and and it wasn’t too busy when we went.
The walk around the castle was so pretty. The grounds around the castle were beautiful as well.
One thing to note is the small corridors and stairways.

Beautiful small castle associated with Count Dracula, but only by the novel written by Bram Stoker. (Dracula has never been here)
The age of the castle is unknown, along with its original owners. It was renovated by Queen Mary, the wife of King Ferdinand, and used as a retreat.
The village of Bran has certainly made use of its location and similarities to Stoker's novel and turned the castle into a must-see location for those who love history, vampires, and spooky happenings.
Tickets are required to enter, which can be bought either on arrival or online. There is a fairly steep incline to reach the entrance made if cobbles, which can be slippery, so care is needed.
Below the castle, in the grounds is a market selling locally made crafts and souvenirs, and refreshments.

The castle was very fascinating, and the grounds were full of history and a real basis for most of the folklore you hear surrounding the castle. The castle itself has a lot of areas closed off and it was more of a museum rather than a full focus on the mythic lore. Still very cool place and would recommend
Noah Leach — Google review
Nice place to visit, there's an interesting mix of history and local myth. It is aimed towards tourists in the morning and hosts varied events and activities in the evenings. It can be quite a challenge if your mobility is reduced as there are many stairs and narrow winding passages.

Very cool castle to walk through! Especially with a tour guide as they can give a lot of extra detail on the history of the castle and each room. It also has very nice views from various points. I did not see the torture areas, but did pay for the elevator. It was interesting and the final tunnel was neat, if only because of how isolated and quiet it was. At the end of the tunnel/bottom of the castle was another gift shop with almost no one in it.

When in Romania, the Dracula / Vampire legends are everywhere, and this is the source of them!
Convenient off street parking, fabulous tourist trap market (check out the traditional masks), then wander up the hill to the castle. We did not use a guide for the tour and may have missed some finer points. The torture chamber is an eye opener!!

An absolutely fantastic castle and probably one of the most famous castles in the world. It is a stunning piece of architecture and the inside is set up in a really nice museum style display to see how rooms would have been during the key parts of the history. It is really easy to get tickets and walk around both the inside and outside. Parking nearby is slightly difficult as there are limited spaces and you have to just drive around until you can find a spot, but it is well worth it.

Beautiful castle with an amazing environment built by Austro-Hungarian empire. It has many things to see inside but also if you are here, it worth to visit the surrounding mountains. Recommend to visit it!
Balint Balint — Google review
Highly overrated castle and for the ticket price you pay it doesn’t include all the things to ser inside castle and for torture museum and timeline show you need to purchase separate tickets. Might be of interest for the people visiting castles for the first time but not for people who visited big castles before. Its a tourist trap for this castle, there are even nicer and beautiful castles in Romania

We're doing a trip that involves castles and palaces and Bran was my #1. Luckily it met and exceeded my expectations. Very well restored, and a beautiful, simple design. Interesting history that is clearly explained. We went in early spring and got there early so there were no crowds and we could move around easily.
From research I'd expected it to be overly touristy with respect to Dracula, but it really wasn't - I really liked the section dedicated to local folklore and thought it a great way to acknowledge the Dracula connection.

Draculas Castle is a must do! When we went it began to snow so it made it more awesome. I recommend doing the extra torture room but I don’t recommend the time tunnel. There wasn’t really much to the tunnel worth the extra money. We didn’t have to wait during when we went and you can go at your own pace. There’s plenty of stores outside the castle that sell cool things to buy. The castle is cool to walk through and how they lived before they even have some rooms that are Dracula themed and even the cool secret staircase

Salina Turda is an exceptional salt mine located at a depth of 120 meters below the ground. It offers visitors a range of exciting tours and attractions, including an amphitheater that hosts concerts, a Ferris wheel, mini-golf course, and boats to explore the underground lake. This unique site is known as the Coolest Underground Place on Earth and is considered one of Romania's top tourist destinations.
Wow! This was an amazing experience. This place is just fabulous. There's otherworldly views, it's very interesting everywhere. You can read the story of this magnificent place in the wall signs. I recommend you taking the stairs.. And breathing. This is for sure one of the coolest places I have been. It's one must do when visiting the beautiful Romania. I think this is something that you don't usually see anywhere. It's incredible how they digged this hundred of years ago. Really deep. I didn't take the boat, but it might be something nice to do too.

The highlight of our trip to this location. We came early - around 10 in the morning and had some problem with online ticket (they did not arrived to mail) but the stuff was super helpful and in 10 minutes we were in. The first impression is just WOW. It’s massive! I don’t understand why there is a Ferris wheel 🎡 inside…just stupid. But the opportunity to take a boat 🛶 inside is amazing and you shouldn’t miss it - it cost 30 ROM for 20 minutes but you will be done earlier. Read the history about horses 🐴 inside the mine, it’s interesting. We spend there easily 2 hours. It’s definitely a cool place to have on a trip list.

You need to visit this place! So beautiful! We were only tourists but you can spend the whole day there, there is so much to do. You can even go in there to read a book.
Entrance is 50 RON during the week and 60RON in the weekend. Additionaly you have to pay 5RON per hour for parking. Try to be early there because you move up and down via elevators inside and they are pretty small, so when the place is full you will spend a lot of time waiting for an elevator.

Must see. It is amazing to be able to visit the Salinas 13 and 26 floors underground. Well lighted and various amenities in the 2 Salinas we visited it misses instructions and description of the place you go in, depth , historical information ... Dear management, add informations or attendants at the elevators so the visitors can find out where are they going and the facts about the place. We had to guess where we are when we went down, long line up at the elevators, the tourists don't know what to do. Please improve the logistic to make this place a great place to visit. And market it better.
ella anca — Google review
Overall the experience was exceptional and I had no problems throughout my visit. Everything is well maintained and sectioned off for safety reasons. The hallways accommodate sufficiently everybody and aren’t slippery from water dropping or warmed salt.
The saline requires a bit of hiking inside; completely manageable by the average. However, the stairs and elevators are severely crowded and lack enough space for everybody to go at once. The elevators can usually only hold 3-4 people (depending on weight capacity) making the wait to go to the bottom floor significant as well as going up. You would be better off simply using the stairs at all times.
For those wondering, it isn’t as cold as it says. The temperature is more like 18 degrees Celsius to begin with, plus the added muscle thermal production from doing cardio it feels like 22 degrees. To some it may be different, however it isn’t as cold as they say. Wear a thin sweater just in case.
Wonderful experience, I highly recommend!
Blessings,
Andrei

It's one of the most interesting Salt Mines I've seen. A selection of routes through the mine. Easy parking with decent overflow parking is also available.
Bring cash with you for the rides and souvenirs. There is NO ATM on site. They do have a ferris wheel there, which is cool.

Wow, it's amazing to think they ate all that salt to build a boating lake and a ferris wheel in an abyss. Amazing place with incredible scale. Ignore the little voice you can't fly. Beautifully air conditioned so dress warm if you get cold easily. It's a constant temperature wasn't any warmer in summer! Worth a visit and you could spend half a day there if you use, read. all the features. Interesting, historical place being put to good use. Leave the push chair in the car as it isn't designed for them. Use the stairs it's good exercise and there are lots unless you want to get old waiting for the lazy lift. A multi lingual sign requesting fit healthy people to use stairs would encourage them to leave the lifts for the less able. Just a thought.

One of the most visited places in Romania... Why? I have been in Poland Wieliczka salt mine and that is the place to see. In Turda you go down... ride the wheel, row the boat... and then you have to get up again.. stairs are narrow, no air, lifts take only few people and the lines are long. Nothing much to buy... I have never been more disappointed, sorry. Not worth the money. Boat attraction take cash only, also the wheel and pool. Extremely small shop took card also. You can download app to listen the story... but it did not work.

It's worth a visit. It's preferable to go during the week because it gets quite crowded on weekends. You can explore the salt mine on foot or take the elevator (although there's usually a substantial queue).
Unfortunately, the entrance ticket price keeps increasing (now it's 50 RON/adult), and the conditions remain the same. There are a few additional paid attractions (ping pong, mini golf, billiards, a Ferris wheel - which wasn't operating when I visited in September, or you can rent a boat for a 20-minute at a cost of 30 RON for 3 people).

Love this place. You feel like on the other planet here. You go deep in the ground, for
Me Felt like 25 floors below. It has coffee shop, has souvenirs, like small lake where you can rent boat. Lot of lights that really brings the beauty to the mine.

A nice place to walk. Take an outer garment. Go early to get in on time. You can rent a boat and have a romantic date in the pond. There is a ferris wheel, a children's playground and a lot of interesting things. A place to sit and rest. On the upper floors there are nice and cozy rooms where you can relax, read a book and breathe salt. Kind of like a salt room

A wonderful location, with many relaxation and leisure areas. It is clearly one of the wonders of the modern world. You are speechless when you realize that you are more than 26 floors underground. It's the 3rd time I've visited it in 8 years and every time I'm speechless. It is absolutely necessary to visit this salt pan if you arrive in Romania!

An amazing sight to see as you descend into the mine. It's really cold down in the mine, even in the summer, so I'd advise wearing layers. There are numerous activities available indoors, including golf, pool, and ping pong. A ferris wheel and a children's playground are also present. You can row a boat around in the pond, which is very awesome. There are also more expensive but worthwhile private trips available within the cave, where you can get up close and personal with the salt rock formations. The view is breathtaking.

We bought tickets online to skip waiting at the ticket office, it can get crowdy. There is paid parking outside the main entrance, 3 lei per hour. Mine is very nice, it has two 3 levels in total. Firts you go downstairs (~ 100), walk through a tunnel and visit few rooms. Then you can take the stairs or an elevator to first level where is also a ferris wheel and some other attractions. From this level you can see the salt lake, before you again take the stairs or elevator to another level below. On the salt lake you can rent a boat. Overall it was a nice experience, but bear in mind that it gets crowdy during the day and you can spend a lot of time waiting to get on the elevator to take you up or down.

The salt mine is very interesting to visit although I had higher expectations. We paid at the entrance. There was a long line waiting for the elevator so we used the stairs to go down. We took a boat in the lake, it was fun.

The mine is in itself impressive, with two main "rooms", incredible colors on the walls, an underground lake. But we didn't like the whole "attraction park" thing the built there. It's ugly, make the cave noisy with loud kids running around, and completely spoil the beauty of the cave.
Still worth the visit, but they shouldn't have done that to the salina.
Sarah Zup — Google review
Very well maintained facility and it's vast. Very interesting to spend a full day in these old salt mines. Might be a bit cool inside so bring a light jacket. There were quite a few people in there, so walking up and down took some time. The light installations were beautiful.

Visited on Thursday morning, got to the entrance around 11, was a small queue but totally fine. Entrance cost 50ron/adult. It was busy, but nothing dramatic, you could find available places to sit, available ping pong tables etc. The air is nice, especially down at the water in the deep end of the mine. The main halls are absolutely massive and awe inspiring.
On the negative side:
- the elevator queues were really long, we took the stairs, which was perfectly fine for us, except that to the lower level (where the water is) there is only a single stair case and people and randomly going up and down. The staircase is narrow so you often are squeezing through people. Something like traffic lights would be an easy fix for this
- parking is close to the entrance, costs 5ron/hr but motorcycles are forbidden from the main parking and taxed at the same price as cars. Do yourself a favor and park about 200m before the entrance for free and not support practices like this.
The Grădina Botanică "Alexandru Borza" Cluj-Napoca is a vast, well-established botanical garden that boasts an impressive collection of exotic plants and flowers. Even during the autumn season, the gardens remain beautiful and inviting. Although some plants may not be in bloom during certain times of the year, visitors can still explore numerous trails that make the garden feel much larger than it really is.
We had the pleasure to visit it during late autumn. The garden was beautiful even at this time of year. There were no tulips, roses and the plants that look amasing during the summery days. Yet, personally, i found the gardens very relaxing, cosy and ready to be explored and fill yourself with good energy. A numerous number of trails make the garden look bigger than it actually is. It's actually a small maze that is worth exploring at any time of the year even, i guess, during winter with everything covered in snow.

A breath of fresh air in the middle of the city. Worth taking a long walk around, the huge trees and various plants can offer a hideaway from the summer heath. It is a good place for photo shooting sessions. The carnivorous plant exhibition was pretty interesting. On a Saturday afternoon too bad there were more people in the shopping mall than in the garden. Entry fee for a family with 2 children is only 32 Ron.

It's a great spot to spend an hour or two walking in (manufactured) nature.
I visited in January, and there were barely any flowers along the paths. Just empty planters. Maybe in another season it's more colorful.
The Japanese garden is nice, and there's a hike trail with bridges and a small stream underneath.

Stepping into the enchanting garden, I found myself immersed in a world of captivating beauty and serenity. The garden, a stunning amalgamation of nature's wonders, revealed a harmonious blend of vibrant colors, melodious sounds, and refreshing scents. It was a sanctuary where time seemed to stand still, allowing me to bask in its captivating ambiance.
The first thing that caught my attention were the diverse species of birds gracefully flitting through the verdant foliage. Their melodic songs filled the air, creating a symphony of nature's finest melodies. It was a joy to witness their playful interactions and to observe the intricate patterns of their plumage.
As I continued my exploration, a majestic water tower came into view, standing tall against the clear blue sky. Its rustic charm added a touch of nostalgia to the scene, reminding me of simpler times. The tower served not only as a functional structure but also as a captivating focal point, contributing to the garden's allure.
A small river meandered through the heart of the garden, its gentle flow lending a soothing soundtrack to my wanderings. The sound of water cascading over rocks and the occasional gurgle of a miniature waterfall filled me with tranquility. I couldn't resist dipping my hand into the crystal-clear water, feeling its cool touch against my skin.
Nestled on the bank of a small pond, a tiny reading room beckoned me to unwind and indulge in literary pleasures. The intimate space, adorned with comfortable chairs and shelves filled with books, offered a quiet respite from the outside world. I could feel the stress and worries melt away as I lost myself in the pages of a captivating novel, accompanied by the gentle lapping of the water against the shore.
One of the highlights of the garden was undoubtedly the expansive greenhouse, a haven for tropical plants from around the world. Divided into different sections, it housed a breathtaking array of flora, some of which I recognized from my home country, St. Vincent. The vivid hues, exotic foliage, and intoxicating fragrances transported me back to the lush landscapes of my childhood. Each step through the greenhouse revealed new wonders, and I couldn't help but marvel at the diversity of plant life thriving within its walls.
My visit to this delightful garden was a truly unforgettable experience. The tranquility and natural beauty that enveloped me were unparalleled, leaving a lasting impression on my soul. Two hours seemed to pass by in an instant, and as I reluctantly made my way back, I couldn't help but yearn for more time in this enchanting paradise. I highly recommend this garden to anyone seeking solace, inspiration, and a connection with nature's awe-inspiring wonders.

A nice garden, and now, in spring, a big variety of tulips in many colours. It started to rain, and a place to sit under a roof would have been nice and a place to buy a cup of coffee and cake, even better lunch. It's a bit sad to see the turtles in a little, dirty kind of well. With nowhere to climb up like a rock/stone and so little room to swim. And people could touch them and bother them. Also, the fish in the place where the water lily's had dirty water.
Laila Haugslett — Google review
In my experience, if you want to see a lot of color, the best time to visit is either in the fall, or around April (for the tulips) or June (for the roses), but it’s beautiful and peaceful anytime, with something interesting to see whenever you choose to go.
For instance, even though I had just missed the tulips this year, so it happened that the rare Himalayan blue poppy was beginning to bloom.
The Japanese and Roman Gardens are both beautiful.
There is a pond with ducks and koi fish.
In the fall the little hill (where the water tower is) was full of squirrels, the kids loved them.
The top of the hill is especially beautiful when the leaves change color and cover the ground.
It may be a bit more modest than some botanical gardens you may have seen (in the movies, if not elsewhere), but it does have its own charm.
You can buy ice cream or something to drink from a small stand in a corner, and souvenirs from the ticket booth right next to the entrance, where in the spring they also sold tulip bulbs.
There are benches to sit down, so you can have a snack, relax, or take a book and spend the day there. Or you can just walk around listening to birdsong (may take a couple of hours to see the entire garden), either way it’s a nice break from the city.
The greenhouses close in the afternoon (around 5PM I think), so if you’ve already seen them before and you go later, then the tickets are a lot cheaper.

It was a gem close to the centre of Cluj. There is a water tower turned into a viewing point, which is quite unique. The Japanese garden is well designed, but at present closed for maintenance. 15 lei entrance. The roses are savagely pruned, but that's obviously the way to do it.

The Hunedoara castle Castelul Corvinilor is one of the top medieval attractions from Transylvania. It is a beautiful Gothic castle dating from the 14th century and remains one of the most impressive castles in Eastern and Central Europe. Visitors can walk freely around the compound and let their imagination run wild, or download an app for a self-guided tour.
WOW!! A must visit. This castle has much to offer, with lots of rooms to explore, prisons, artifacts, and beautiful views. From the very entrance of the castle it’s breathtaking and offers views from high up of the towns below. The history of the castle is well explained and offers translations from Romanian to English for all tourists as well. The only downside to our visit was the rebuilding of the entire right side, meaning most of it was closed off to public access, but regardless, still worth the long drive and visit. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure!

The castle is beautiful, and it is worth visiting, but only one time if you are in the area. I think a long trip just to visit the castle is not a good idea.
Also, the interior is in renovation and a great part of it is closed.
However, the exterior of the castle is really beautiful.

This finally feels like a real castle😁. One like in the movies. With it's tall wooden bridge over a stream, high towers, but no Princess. It really looks and feels midevil. The visitable rooms are just a few because half of the castle is still under renovation. Don't expect high tech gadgets in there. It is as bear as it was when it was constructed. Only a few pieces of furniture and some weapons. The view is spectacular from the tower. A lot of gift hops in the court. Some are cheap chinese fakes but there are a lot of local hand crafted items too. Overall, for the 35 Ron (7€) paid, it's worth visiting once in a lifetime.

It's one of the most beautiful castles I have ever seen! 😍 walking in the beautiful big rooms with bolted ceilings takes you back in time. The castle is extremely well preserved, especially considering that it was built in the 15th century (1440s). You can easily imagine how the nobles lived in those times. Absolutely gorgeous! We loved it so much and were so impressed by the architecture that stood strong till this day, that we decided to return and take our post wedding photos there, and it was the best decision we could make ❤️
Go visit!!! You will not regret it!

There are hundreds of different reviews detailing the mighty castle and it’s beauty. I want just to add the fascinating location of the castle, surrounded by the remains of the biggest steel complex of the communist era, the XIV century castle survived almost 700 years. Also, you will notice the exquisite conversion of some industrial buildings into hotels or restaurants and, together with the communism private(sic) museum nearby, it will give you a taste about what is present Transylvania.
Part of The Saxon House private tours, we are amazed to discover each time how the renovation work advances at the castle but also how the surroundings are changing.
I highly recommend visiting the Castle but also the entire little town, the core pf the historical center being renovated.

Beautiful location, the castle is in renovation, still there were lots of turists.
The history of the castle is beautiful and has its own strong impact on the visitors. I loved walking inside and checking every room and corner.
I highly recommend it.

The castle is beautiful, but the surroundings, well... Hunedoara is an old industrial city, as a result, you can see an abandoned factory just near the castle. Desolating I would say.
Again, the castle: the entrance fee is about 18 EUR for 2 adults and 2 children. Reasonable.
There is even a torture room exposition, you can enter for about 2 EUR per adult and 1 EUR for a child (above 12 years).
You can find junk food and souvenirs right at the entrance.
What you can't see in photos in brochures or at their website: the castle in under construction, and many rooms are closed. Actually the castle in under construction since the last fire in 1854.
The place should be visited and it's wonderful, but don't expect a 100 percent restored castle like in fairy tales.

Amazing castle ! Really impressive and nice views of the city . We walked threw the whole caste in 1 hour or so.
I give it 4 instead of 5 because inside the rooms are empty or have very few furniture. It could be magnificent with period correct furniture and decoration.
The city where the castle is located is average to poor. Has a nice pedestrians road for 500 Meters with around 10 restaurants on it. Other than that, very old and neglected at places.
Panicos Nicolaou — Google review
The castle is gorgeous from the outside! The inside yard is being renewed now (June, 2023), and some of the chambers are under renovation as well, but it's a great 2 hour trip/activity to have, for sure!
Zsolt Elekes — Google review
It is truly an awe-inspiring location with a rich historical significance. This place undoubtedly deserves a 5-star rating for the profound representation it holds. However, there are a couple of aspects that slightly hinder its overall ranking.
Firstly, there is a notable concern regarding the maintenance of numerous items. While renovations were in progress during my visit, it seems that some items have been neglected for quite a while. Prioritizing their upkeep would greatly enhance the overall experience.
Secondly, the customer service personnel could use improvement. A more welcoming and accommodating approach would make visitors feel not only valued but also connected to the historical essence of the place. Feeling welcomed and a part of history should be an integral part of the visit experience.

Impressive looking castle from the outside it's an amazing view. Inside it's really big, lots of stairs to climb. Some of the rooms were ready but there were still working on parts of it but I think once they finish everything it will be spectacular. We managed to get a car park down below and walk up. There's some food and drinks up in front and also souvenirs walking up to it

The castle is beautiful. The architecture evokes the dark ages and, overall it is a very nice way to learn about both local and Romanian history in general. There was a nice exposition in the castle, which showed how people were tortured back then. It was fascinating and interesting to learn about. The only things I can complain about are the staff and the cleanliness of the toilets.
Natalia Szatmary — Google review
A castle worth visiting for its history and preservation. The view of the city from the towers is extraordinary. At the entrance you can scan a qr code for a free audio guide.
Alexandru Diaconu — Google review
Beautiful castle with impressive architecture. The interior is pretty empty though but the outside compensates for all that. Loved the legend of the Turks and the fountain located inside the castle.
Simona Rosoaga — Google review
A gorgeous piece of history, the only reason I took out a star is due to the fact they had many doors closed (to certain rooms). Ah! And the 6 RON picture tax :)) that was something new. But otherwise, nothing to say - a worthwhile visit with a few German colleagues, which were very happy with the experience!
Ana Chirila — Google review
An absolutely beautiful castle. Even though the castle is currently being renovated, you can still see most parts of it. If you are curious about Romanian history and want to learn more, then you should visit this place. If you want to avoid long queues for tickets, you should come a bit earlier in the morning.
The fee for the castle is about 40 lei. There are plenty of shops from where you can buy food and drinks. You can park your car in the nearest car park to the castle, about 8-10 minutes' walk. The fee for parking is 10 lei.
Marina Trencheva — Google review
Nice place to visit, lots of history to learn.
Some of the rooms are pending renovation or are under renovation.
We went with 3 kids, the small ones (3 &6) were not that enthusiastic about it as there are not so many attractions, some of the rooms are less 'interactive', rather static.
I think of some small animations on some screens or projected.
They loved that in some rooms there are some persons dressed like few hundred years ago and they played with their sword etc.
We need more of this.
Also, please solve the parking and toilets.

The place is absolutely beautiful and a definite must see within Romania's tourist destinations. Everything is clean and orderly and you can enjoy a nice walk in the castle then take a sweet break afterwards with some traditional dishes. Event though the castle is not as richly decorated as I was expected, it's a nice place if you want to combine beauty and some history.

I was very impressed with the whole place and how professional everything was from the tourist information in multiple languages to the condition of the Castle. They also offer civil weddings in the chapel.

Castelul Corvinilor, or Corvin Castle, is like stepping into a fairy tale! Nestled in Hunedoara, Romania, this castle is all about dramatic towers, winding staircases, and legends of knights. It's one of the largest castles in Europe and seriously looks like something out of a movie with its stunning Gothic-Renaissance architecture. Inside, you can roam through the grand halls and imagine the medieval banquets once held there. Don't miss the courtyard and the well — the stories behind them are super intriguing. It's a bit of a journey to get there, but totally worth it for the awesome photos and the feel of real-life history. Plus, the surrounding landscape is gorgeous!

Lovely castle, completely saved as it was, not commercialized like one in Bran which is more famous and more visited. Ticked is around 10 euros per person and you can go through whole castle. Lot of rooms, towers where you can go and explore. It was not crowded at all and allowed us to enjoy in this beautiful castle and his history.
Parking is available little bit down the road, it is private parking but it is just around 6-10 lai per hour.
Lot of small museums, souvenir shops.

In one side there is a tiled walk with animal pictures that surround the park you enter in to walk up the Fortress. It is free 😊 you see the local people hang out with their families. There is an attached small church Petr Church. It over looks the river.

The Belgrade Fortress is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Serbia's capital city. Steeped in history and surrounded by lush greenery, this fortress is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Belgrade. As a history enthusiast, I was in awe of the rich cultural heritage and stunning architecture that the fortress offers.
Upon entering the fortress, you'll be transported back in time. The ancient walls, towers, and gates stand as a testament to the city's resilience throughout the centuries. The blend of various architectural styles, from Byzantine to Ottoman, creates a unique and captivating atmosphere. It's fascinating to wander through the fortress, exploring its nooks and crannies, and imagining the stories that unfolded within these walls.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the panoramic views from the fortress. Perched high on a hill, overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, the vistas are simply breathtaking. Whether you visit during the day or at dusk, the sight of Belgrade's cityscape stretching out before you is mesmerizing. Don't forget your camera, as this is a picture-perfect spot!
The fortress also houses several museums and exhibits that delve deeper into Belgrade's history. From the Military Museum to the Museum of the City of Belgrade, there is something to satisfy every curiosity. These well-curated exhibitions offer a glimpse into the city's past, from its medieval origins to the turbulent times of World War II.
Furthermore, the grounds surrounding the fortress are a tranquil escape from the bustling city. Walking along the ramparts and enjoying the well-maintained gardens is a delightful experience. There are also plenty of benches and picnic spots where you can relax and soak in the peaceful ambiance. It's a great place to unwind and appreciate the beauty of nature.
Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply seeking an awe-inspiring view, the Belgrade Fortress won't disappoint. The combination of its historical significance, architectural beauty, and panoramic vistas make it an unmissable attraction. I highly recommend allocating ample time to explore and truly appreciate this cultural gem.

Located in Stari Grad, the fortress constitutes the specific historical core of the city. One of the most important representatives of their cultural heritage, it was originally protected right after World War II, among the first officially declared cultural monuments in Serbia. It was built in 297 BC, with an area of 66 hectares, or 160 acres.

The history of the castle gives a better understanding of Serbia in general. Plus the fortress boasts very well preserved walls and the moat (used nowadays as a part of the military museum, exhibiting weaponry from various times).
Inside it’s mostly a park with some historical landmarks. Especially worth seeing are the Ruzica and Saint Petka Orthodox churches which demonstrate a pretty unique architecture and are considered the most loved holy places in the country.

It should be one of the first destinations you should visit when you come to Belgrade. Located on a hill rising at the point where the Danube and Sava rivers meet, Belgrade Fortress has a magnificent view. There are many artifacts and parks from the Ottoman Empire inside the fortress.
The imposing citadel of Petrovaradin Fortress looms over the Danube river on a volcanic slab that rises 40 meters high. This well-preserved fortress is Europe's second-largest and was built between 1692 and 1780 using slave labor. It boasts dungeons where notable prisoners, such as Karadorde and Yugoslav president Tito, were once held. The fortress offers stunning views of Novi Sad and is home to the EXIT Festival.

The imposing St. Stephen's Basilica, built from 1851 to 1905, offers spectacular views of Budapest from its cupola. The building was damaged during World War II, but fortunately most of the mosaics that decorated its walls were saved. This popular attraction is dedicated to Hungary's holy king and the founder of the Hungarian state St. Stephen.
This is very beautiful basilica in center of town. It is one of the postcard image place of Budapest. There is no charge to see the Basilica, it is free of charge but you should give some donation. Also you can go on the top to have a panoramic view which cost you around 10 euro, there is an elevator. There are lots of good restaurant nearby

St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest is a magnificent architectural gem that left me in awe. The basilica's imposing dome, reaching a height of 96 meters, dominates the city's skyline and offers a visual treat for visitors. As I stepped inside, the grandeur of the interior took my breath away. The ornate decorations, intricate carvings, and stunning stained glass windows created a serene and majestic atmosphere.
One of the highlights of my visit was the chance to view the basilica's most precious relic, the mummified right hand of St. Stephen himself, the first king of Hungary. This sacred relic is housed in a beautifully adorned reliquary, and its significance adds a spiritual touch to the basilica's historical importance.
Climbing to the top of the dome was an unforgettable experience. The panoramic views of Budapest from the observation deck were simply breathtaking. I marveled at the stunning architecture of the city, with its iconic landmarks and the sweeping Danube River.
Exploring the basilica's interior was a captivating journey. The intricate details of the statues, altars, and frescoes were a testament to the skill and artistry of the craftsmen. I enjoyed wandering through the various chapels, admiring the beautiful artwork and feeling a sense of peace and tranquility.
Overall, my visit to St. Stephen's Basilica was an absolute delight. The impressive dome, the sacred relic, the awe-inspiring views, and the opportunity to explore its magnificent interior made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend adding this architectural masterpiece to your itinerary when visiting Budapest.

ST. STEPHEN'S BASILICA
It is named in honor of Stephen, the first King of Hungary (c. 975–1038), whose right hand is preserved in the reliquary. The basilica features a Greek cross ground plan. While we didn't visit the interior of the church, we purchased tickets from the ticket office located across from the right side of the church and ascended to the exterior balcony encircling the church's dome, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding city. The steps to reach there are quite a few, but the experience is truly rewarding, especially as you reach the vast area beneath the external dome, where you can glimpse the interior dome of the church.
Orestis - — Google review
Such a stunning building. The ticket office is just off to the side. Expect to queue to buy your ticket. We bought the combined ticket which I recommend so you can get the fantastic views from the top. There are lifts to each part but you will have to climb a few stairs regardless. One of the most interesting things was St Stephen's hand kept in a case.

For sure, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Budapest and Europe. The outside is beautifully lightened during the night, and the details of its facade can be viewed during the daytime. In December, you'll also have the chance to visit one of Europe's most astonishing Christmas markets here. The inside is also a strong recommendation for all tourists. Usually, prices and waiting times are okay if you're not visiting during prime season.

Beautiful by day, beautiful by night. It's well worth paying to see the panoramic view, especially the sunset.
To go up, you have the option of a lift (there are two - with a long queue) and stairs. Be aware that there are a LOT of stairs and spiral staircases. Be prepared 🏋🏻♀️

Got the ticket for inside the church, treasury and terrace dome. The Full ticket is definitely worth it, inside is amazing and the terrace views are second to none on this side of the river. The treasury is less impressive and can be missed imo.. There's 307 steps and Further steps at the top so not suitable if you can't climb the steps

Absolute Empfehlung!

It is the most beautiful basilica I have seen so far. The red marble on the walls combined with gold looks incredible! The altar and the ceiling painting are beautiful. The best thing to do is find a chair and admire everything from there. Tickets can be purchased online or in an adjacent building. There are discounts for seniors and children. Absolute recommendation!

Very nice basilica. We can go up to the view point near the dome to get a good view of the city. You can choose either elevator or stairs!

Very nice place to visit. The interior is beautiful. Climbing the tower part was awesome. A lot of steps, but it's worth it. There is a toilet at the middle part of the tower. The views are incredible

St. Stephen's Basilica, a masterpiece of architecture and spirituality, graces Budapest with its neoclassical beauty. It is as beautiful from the outside as it is from the inside. The soaring columns and mosaic-adorned domes inside look truly gorgeous. Don't miss the panoramic lookout offering stunning city views.

One of the Budapest must visits. Come early as it's very busy here. I suggest getting the rooftop combo package.
A striking basilica from outside, it's a great photo opportunity. Inside is mind blowing. Such beautiful and reverence. A true blessing to the almighty creator.
There are roped off spots for quiet prayer and reflection. Please take your hat off indoors. A group of Chinese tourists unfortunately showed a lack of respect by refusing to do so.
The treasure room is interesting with luxurious and historical relics from previous bishops.
The rooftop had great views on rainy or sunny days. It's worth the extra effort. You can take the lazy elevator or take the stairs like I did.
Combined ticket is 3500HUF or free for teachers

What an beautiful Basilica! We purchased tickets to hear Ave Maria and the acoustics were excellent. Take the time to wander around inside and see the art and altars. This is a functioning church so act accordingly. The Christmas fair outside is well done and had a lot to offer (much more than Vienna). This is on stop you should not miss.

Indeed, a treat for the eyes. St Istvan’s (Stephen’s) Basilica is one of the best architectures of Budapest. Although we didn’t get a chance to enter inside Basilica, we were delighted by the minute details of the arts engraved on the exterior walls.
I am looking forward to visit the church again so that I can get a chance to enter and enjoy the panoramic view of Budapest from its terrace.
Krishanu Chakraborty — Google review
It's not a place to pray for free. The Basilica and its grandeur come with a price: 6,000 HUF. The church hall at a lower fee is worth the money, I think, unless you want to see the surrounding view at the top. The Treasury is composed of very ornate robes, monstrances, and paintings. Going down the spiral steps is not for the faint-hearted or weak knees. 4-man lift is available, but the queue is long. The view at the top of the dome is breathtaking. However, there's no need to pay this extra fee if you've already gone on the Budapest Eye. The church hall is impressive and quite popular with weddings. Its decor is breathtaking, and as with all Basilicas, it gives you that feeling that God actually resides there. If you want to light a candle, make sure you have the right coins as the paying boxes do not provide other methods of payment.

The place at the time of visit was crowded, but still had the time and space for observing and appreciating the architecture. It is of great historical importance to the people. There was a service going on but the experience was wonderful especially the amazing sounds from the pianoforte. Highly recommended.

Lovely Basilica. The center of the city. Extravagant interiors but nothing different than say, St Peter's Basilica in Rome which is FREE. If you feel like giving a forced donation by buying a ticket, please do make the pope happy!
I loved getting the free (voluntary tipping) walking tour with the guy in the red umbrella everyday at 11 am - i tipped as much as the entrance and was the best introduction to Budapest for 2.5 hours.
andraci Avenue just behind it is fantastic to walk.

A beautiful basilica, we really enjoyed our visit there. This is the largest church in Budapest. To access the dome, you can use 364 steps or the elevator, and this offers amazing views. The entrance is approximately £10 pp.

Really nice place.
If you want to go in , you need to buy a ticket from the ticket office next to the church.
There is 2 different tickets
Either just church or church and viewing gallery.
The viewing gallery has a lift ( actually 2 ) to get up and down or if your daft as a brush. You can use the stairs.

The view from the panoramic terrace is definitely worth the price of admission! You can see the entire city skyline from atop the basilica. I also saw the treasury, which had some very nice art, statues, and various Catholic accoutrements. The basilica itself has some beautiful architecture, finely detailed with statues of many saints and religious figures. I would say that anyone would find this place interesting. If you are a fan of architecture, history, or religion, it's a must-see.

Stephen's Basilica is already very impressive from the outside, and it's even more impressive inside! The size of the basilica is huge and interiors are very richly decorated. It's worth buying a ticket with entry to the Panoramic Terraces, because the view of the city from above is beautiful!

If you're visiting Budapest, the Basilica is an absolute must-see. This stunning architectural marvel is not just a feast for the eyes but also offers an enriching cultural experience. The highlight for many visitors, including myself, is the organ concert held at 5 PM. The acoustics of the Basilica paired with the skilled organist create an unforgettable auditory experience that resonates deeply within the grand walls of this sacred space. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, a lover of classical music, or simply seeking a serene and beautiful place to reflect, the Basilica in Budapest will not disappoint. I highly recommend scheduling your visit to coincide with the organ concert for an experience that is truly sublime.

Yeah I don't get why you'd need to pay a few to enter a place of worship.
Having said that, the fee paid is peanuts compared to the Jewish place not too far away, which is absolutely ridiculous.
Nevertheless, back to this Basilica.
I was impressed by the architecture and design. Truly amazing.

Attempted to purchase tickets online but somehow the website wasn’t working so I returned the next morning before the crowd. Just simply amazing, probably the most grandeur thing in the city of Budapest.

Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the majestic sight of the basilica's vast nave, illuminated by the soft glow of stained glass windows and bathed in the echoes of sacred music. It was an amazing experience the building itself was absolutely magnificent and the architecture humbles you. Spectacular church, opulent from every angle. It is certainly worth a visit while in Budapest. The treasury is a little disappointing as it's very small..the view from the tower is impressive. Expect to take some 145 steps. However there is a lift (and toilets mid way up).
Like St Peters in Rome it is a masterclass in craftsmanship, and work that can be enjoyed by any regardless of faith.
A certainty for a visit while in Budapest.

Its a bridge that joins the old towns of Buda and Pest. It's both practical and beautiful. Very close to the hotel we stayed in, so an easy walk to get there and get over. It is pedestrian and public transport only, but the pedestrian bit is quite narrow. On the north side is the funicular that goes up to the castle. It's a great walk to get there if the weather is good.

Absolutely magnificent! The lions, the views from it, the views it is in it, the walk on it, Great bridge. The only thing that could be better is if there are no vehicles and it's just pedestrian. But even now it's awesome. And the lights at night make it glow and shine in gold.

The Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial commemorates the 3,500 people who were brutally murdered by Arrow Cross Party members during WWII. The bronze shoes that are scattered about the riverbank just a short distance away from the Hungarian Parliament Building make for a moving sight.
A very historical surreal experience. And it was lovely to walk down the whole Danube promenade where there are plenty of other statues too!
There are not scripts to tell you the story behind the shoes if you don’t already know. So googling the history is advised

To get there you need to walk right on the edge of the river. We were there after a few days with heavy rain, which made it muddy 🤷🏻♀️ as there is no real pavement. Hope that in time they will build the beautiful promenade.

Very beautiful and magnificent structure.
We booked a English guided tour of the Hungarian Parliament Building which lasted for about an hour and half.
The tour was amazing and you get to know some interesting facts about the parliament building and Hungary history. This is really a must to go destination for Budapest.
Here are a few tips to know before you plan your trip for the Hungarian Parliament -
Try to book the tickets online from their official website well in advance (2-3 weeks in advance) since the tickets get sold out very quickly. For e tickets, you need to exchange your e tickets with the physical tickets.
Chances of getting a ticket on the spot from the ticket counter is very difficult. However, if you want to try, reach the ticket counter around 8 am in the morning (it's opening time) and you might get a few tickets for the day.
The ticket counter does not sell advance tickets. They only sell tickets available for that day only. Use online booking as much as possible and plan weeks in advance.
This will be a audio guided tour where in you receive a radio and a headphone. The tour is available in multiple European languages including English.
Please Note - You can buy the tickets with any language available for a time slot, once you enter inside, once you get the audio guided machine, you have the option to select the language of your choice. Thus contradicting the entire idea of slots based on languages.
Last but not the least, the tour is amazing.

Certainly it looks much better from outside it's massive and very photogenic. The area around it is very well designed & landscaped.
It’s very symmetrical and gigantic. You can not miss the sight from almost anywhere around the Danube from many kilometers. The inside view of this beautiful monstrous building is equally incredible. This is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world, and for good reason. We had a guided tour here and were at times astonished with the excellence in workmanship that went into this building. If you love architecture, this is indeed a place to visit. Tickets should be booked well in advance, or you will simply miss out. It is that popular. There is also a tram passing around the building, and we found it easy to travel there. The parliament, furthermore, has a good souvenir shop, but a bit pricey. Do visit it, there are a few unique items to purchase. Should you happen to visit Budapest, this is definitely a must visit.

If visiting in the winter like we did i would suggest you wear proper shoes as we wore trainers and was icy on some parts! Also it is very worth waking up early to visit this place with less tourists about.

It's like a dream😴💭. Amazing beauty. The best place after Hungarian Parliament is the Fisherman's Bastion. Free. No charges. You can have a great view of Danube & Budapest. Great place to click photos not only of views but also of yours. Loved. Nearby good eating joints. Spend at least half day here.

This is a really pretty place to visit, it does feel a little like a fairytale as there's quite a number of spires. You can visit the church as well as the bastion itself. There are some great views of the city from here and is quite a romantic setting (if it's quiet). Nonetheless, its picturesque views offer great photo opportunities and is not one to miss if you like that.

A very nice place to visit for free. You can take very nice pictures there. There are some shops and coffee places, but they are always full. The best part is Matthias Church with its beautiful roof (this can be accessed by payment only). There are plenty of places to sit, and there are some toilets but you need to pay for them.

The architecture of this landmark is truly stunning. It takes you back to the monarchic times. It provides probably one of the best views of the city. If you want to avoid the crowd, go there early (before 10 AM), otherwise, you might need to wait for a good photo spot. But the best lights are around sunset (and obviously the place is packed at that time)

My new favourite place in Budapest. We visited 3 times on a 4 day trip! Not only is the architecture beautiful, but you get incredible views of the city. Absolutely breathtaking and worth the visit!
Tip: Visit early morning or evening to avoid the crowds.
Tip #2: You need to buy a ticket to go up to the top sections in the day, but in the evening, they're free!

A very beautiful place to visit as much for the view of Budapest as for the magnificent architecture!
Not difficult to access and free (except for certain viewpoints but this is not really necessary).
There are a few shops, bars and restaurants up top and note that it is a very busy place.

Definitely the most Instagrammable spot in Budapest, it's always a nice place for a picture. But be warned, it's full of people trying to have their picture taken. Better to go early in morning or late at night. Free to visit of course. Souvenir shop and coffee place on site. Highly recommend.

Amazing place, beautiful architecture. Fisherman's Bastion you can visit all for free. No charges. A great view of river Danube and Budapest is given from here. Nearby are good eating joints, places for coffee, you can spend whole day here.
You will enjoy in every corner of this beautiful Bastion.

Absolutely stunning location, the highlight of our visit to Budapest. Most of the site is free, but for a small fee you can walk along the ramparts and take pictures away from the bulk of the crowds, which I would definitely recommend. The view is also lovely but the architecture is truly spectacular and it was hard to tear myself away from it!

Free to enter, only few places in tower for fee. Very nice to chill out, an good view from the top. But better to get there in early morning or in the evening special in summer. It wad hot and not comfortable.

Beautiful architecture and high vantage points for some of the best panoramic views of Budapest and the Danube river. Entry is free but fairly crowded depending on when you go - best views would be during sunrise (with the fewest tourists) or sunset.
The Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the must-see sights when in Budapest so I would highly recommend it.

Beautiful place in Budapest.
Fisherman's Bastion is located at height. You can go by stairs. Or take the funicular from the starting point.
After a bit of trek you will arrive at beautiful landmark. From where you can have completed view of the city overlooking Danube river.
Architecture is at its best at this place.
Must visit if you love to see old buildings and get connected with ancient times.
Strongly recommend 👍👌

Such a beautiful place with a lovely lookout over this city and clearly the best picture spot in town as there were so many people there taking photos. But the whole place reminded me of Hogwarts. I just loved being there. Get a coffee or a chimney cake and just enjoy it.

This place is really lovely, the architecture is great. It has a great view of the pest side. Lots of people during the day but if you go there earlier, it’s really a different vibe and feel. You can appreciate the place more.
There’s also a fee if you want to reach the highest wall in Fisherman’s Bastion. Tickets can be bought online or on site.

One of the most incredible views I have ever seen, the building and surroundings are astonishing, and the views of Budapest itself just wow!! It is a MUST visit for anyone!! Make sure to leave plenty of time to visit this place so you can view from every point of it and see every single bit of detail on the buildings. No other words than WOW!!! Not to miss: this the place, which you do not want to miss when visiting Budapest...it's very high on the hill with lots of stairs, if you search on Google maps it's recommends you to take stairs, and not many people are aware but a bus goes up to the Bastion...and it drops you right at the spot..no need to take single stairs. It's such a beautiful place with a mesmerizing view over the City Budapest...I would highly recommend to go there...it's an experience to be there...:)

If you can visit in the late afternoon and stay until the early evening, you can get a nice view from here at sunset. I opted to walk up from the Chain Bridge because the weather was nice and I wanted to see all of the autumn colors as I hiked up to Castle Hill.

The castle and fisherman’s bastion is right beside one another - It’s a visitors main attraction spot, but I most say extremely hassle free. I’ve travelled a lot, and most tourist attractions have creepy men trying to sell you items, or stick tacky bracelets on your arm then ask for money. Here none of that happens at all. You can walk around freely which is nice. Which should be the Norm to do anyways - but I found it good. Not too overwhelming (again this might depend on the time you go). February not that busy, and in the evenings very quiet. My apartment was close by, the views are spectacular. The downside you’ll see just LOADS AND LOADS of phones all over the place, in your face, in your space 😂 when are we ever gonna live in the moment 🤷♀️ you can see Budapest city from here. Look it’s definitely nice to see, to get into this little castle you’ve to pay a fee but you’re basically paying to see all these “travel bloggers and insta” people taken up the entire balconies 🫡

Very pretty. Shops locally and very expensive chimney pastry stalls €10 for one 😳). Can use scooters up here but check parking as we had to walk all the way back down to find parking or lose minutes. Restaurants up top. Areas to visit have to pay for them all about €3. Great views of the city.

Beautiful architecture, it is honestly impressive even more so during a sunny day! Reaching the bastion is quite easy by foot. However, as it stands on a hill, it can be quite steep at times (there are a lot of stairs, too!). It does have good bus connections (bus no.16 takes you straight to the main square).
I would recommend going to the bastion not only for the amazing view of Budapest but also for the tour of the underground caves as it's really interesting!

We visited during the day, dusk, and night, and each time was amazing.
There’s something truly special about this place; it feels very magical. The views are stunning too.
My favorite time was 7 pm, just as the sun was setting (in April), as there weren’t many people around, and it was beautiful. It’s lovely during the day as well, but it can get crowded, so if you prefer fewer people, evening and nighttime are better.
It’s really worth seeing at different times of the day as it makes Budapest look even prettier.

The Basilica of Esztergom is a grand neoclassical church built between 1822 and 1856, situated on Castle Hill in Hungary. It is the largest church in Hungary, with an ornate interior, towering central dome that can be seen from afar, and a crypt. Jozsef Hild contributed to the final stages of its design. The original 12th-century church was destroyed by the Turks.
It is simply HUGE. Must visit from Budapest. It’s super close and the view from there it’s very nice. Also cross the border to Slovakia 🇸🇰 it’s recommended. There’s a small art exhibition at the entrance which was, surprisingly, good. All in all a great day trip

If you're looking for a really cool place to visit, you should check out the Basilica of Esztergom. It's a big, beautiful church that's super old and has lots of interesting things to see.
One of the best parts is the really tall tower you can climb to get a great view of the whole city. It's a little bit of a hike, but totally worth it for the awesome views. And don't forget to look up at the ceiling inside the church – there are some really cool paintings and decorations up there.
There are also lots of statues and artwork around the cathedral that are really fun to look at. My favorite was a big, shiny crown that's hanging in one of the rooms. It's super fancy and sparkly, and it was used by lots of important people a long time ago.
Overall, the cathedral of Esztergom is a really neat place to visit. I bet you'll have a great time exploring all the different parts of it. Just make sure to be respectful and quiet while you're inside the church part. Happy exploring!

TBF when I visited, there was a renovation going on so I'm not so sure I'll be able to rate it with %100 clarity. The basilica itself was great and it's so cool to see that nearly every part of the building is still standing. The remnants inside and the treasury were great. I'm not that into body parts being kept for viewers though. Still, it was pleasant. Suggest you visit it. And while you're there, drink a tea in Slovakia.

While the renovation makes it difficult to see the Basilica in its full glory, it is still an amazing sight to visit during a day out in Esztergom! The church interior is amazing and we were still able to appreciate it despite the work and drilling in the background…The basilica also offers a tour of its dome. It is a place full of history and is the biggest church in Hungary.

Must place to visit if you're in Budapest or you visit as a tourist . This is the oldest church and is situated in Esztergom where you can take a local train from Budapest. You can take a peaceful walk before the Church premises and we need a ticket to have a look from top view. We can see the Slovakian bridge from the backside of the monument. Treasure kept inside is worth watching and the relics of kings are kept safe.

Nice basilica, unfurtunatelly currently under reconstruction. The entry is free, you have to pay for the treasury and/or crypt only. However, the treasury is must see if you like treasures 😀 Parking is free below the basilica on the right.

Even with the construction site it is impressive. To see how they rebuild it is actually a nice extra.
To climb the stairs to the cupola is fun. Start from the Alley of Cats!
Well organized and clean.
It would be even better if there were no cars and parking directly in the front, cars just make the scenery ugly.
Prepare yourself with some history of Esztergom before visiting.

A great day out with family. The weather was perfect for a walk around the top of the dome. 400 steps up inside the Basilica and then a walkway around the outside, not for the faint hearted. I'm glad we went. The views were spectacular. It's worth visiting even if you don't want to go to the top. The treasury and crypt are well worth visiting.

It`s a must to visit if you have the chance. Second largest building in the country and very important one. Unfortunatly it is under renovation which will take up to a few more years so inside is a big of chaos, the statues are removed, a great part of
the pavement is picked up, there are just a few benches for the ones who attend the mass. The 80 m high tower however is worth visiting, there are guided turns every hour, must climb more than 400 steps but the view compensates all.

Fascinating and amazing. We had an excellent and interesting guide in Julia (SP)
Large lake featuring warm waters for alleged health benefits & an indoor/outdoor spa with services.
This is a lovely thermal lake which also is huge. Everyone gets an armband that also gives you a personal locker for your belongings. Note that you can not pick any locker you have to blip the armband at the screen when entering the locker room and then you are assigned a locker.
I recommend going around the lake to the "relax" section where there are a lot fewer people and a much more calm setting. The lake is quite warm so do not expect to get cooled down on a warm summer day.

The staff 1 star (if you are foreigner)
The communication was complicated with the staff since they don’t speak English, and that’s understandable even tho it is a very touristic place and the signs inside are all in English.
However when they tried to buy other tickets they spoke in Hungarian and realized we didn’t speak at all, one person started to yell at us and was obvious she was complaining while her colleague was laughing loud, she called one person to speak to us while they kept having this XENOPHOBIC behavior for some minutes.
Its a paradox you go to a place to relax and the staff are rude and disrespectful.
We forgot after some minutes the situation and we were able to relax and enjoy the place

Honestly I thought this was going to be gross and super packed with people. But it was very relaxing and therapeutic. The Lake is gigantic and there enough space to spread out in the water. There are different depths and parts to the spa as well. There is a super deep part and then there are sulfur baths. Spent most of my time in the outside lake part and on the sun chairs. You pay and get a wrist band that tracks you. Different pricing for how long you want to stay.

I stayed in Heviz in a little private Pension, for a week. Yes, things might be not hypermodern and a bit out of date...BUT...it is therefore that things are still very much affordable for everyone ( not only well off people) and it serves every inch the purpose. Our host at our Airbnb, Veronica, kindly gave us two tickets for cheaper entry to the baths. There are loungers everywhere but finding a free one is a bit of a challenge. The water is very warm, about 32—35°C in summer. My daughter swam 2km, I just stayed at the edge; nearly everyone has a float in the water. The cafe was winding down so our chips were nearly cold which was very disappointing. Cafe closed at 6pm; we were there at 5pm so why cold food an hour before closing?

The unusual Čumil sculpture park is a must-see attraction in Bratislava. It's home to strange statues of all shapes and sizes, some with a point and others well and truly pointless. The most interesting are found in the wooded area outside the park, with great poses to take funny and cute photos.
Unique and special statues are around Bratislava city centre with a story behind them and great poses to take some funny and cute pictures
Claudia Ximena Mazo Vargas — Google review
The ever famous statue of Cumil is well known in slovakia, especially in the old town bratislava area. Several stories were shared on how this came about, either he is relentlessly working hard due to nonstop work and he did this post to depict that even if he is tired, he is still dedicated. Another story goes that he is a slacker, and just rests the whole day. Either way, he is now a symbol of hardwork.
They say that you need to touch his head to receive goodluck. You can see this figure in tourist souvenir shops along with the other statues in the old town area.

This is surely a quirky statue in Bratislava, the Capital of the Slovak Republic. His name is Čumil, the Slovak word actually means “watcher”. It only takes a quick glance at the face of the man at work at the junction of Laurinská and Panská Streets to understand why he goes by the name “the watcher”. The bronze statue, with a grin on his face, peeks his head from underneath a manhole cover in the Old Town and he is popular among tourists and locals alike. You cannot visit Bratislava without saying hi to Čumil! And make sure to take a photo – this is actually one of the most photographed objects in Bratislava.
Čumil is one of many statues in the Old Town of Bratislava. Other statues include Paparazzi, Schöner Náci, and Napoleon’s Soldier. These statues appeared in 1997, a couple of years after Slovak independence. This was at a time when the city was polishing its image after its Communist past. Čumil is the work of Slovak sculptor Viktor Hulík. The artist was born in 1947 in Bratislava.
As for Čumil, there are a couple of theories about his name. Maybe he’s resting after a hard day’s work cleaning the sewers or perhaps he’s a typical communist-era worker who works little and watches a lot or maybe he’s just trying to get a look under the ladies’ skirts.... Anyway, this sympathetic man seems to enjoy his surroundings.
There are careless drivers everywhere and Bratislava is no exception! The poor statue actually lost his head twice. Because of this, he was given his own road sign that reminds passers-by of the man at work.
Legend has it that those who touch the head of the man will get a wish come true – if they manage to keep it a secret forever.
How to find Him?
The best way to find this spot is on foot. Amongst the cafés, restaurants, and shops of the Old Town, you will find the statue. It is situated in the front the corner of Rybárska brána (Fishermen’s gate), at the junction of Panská and Laurinská streets. Just follow the crowds and as I already said, bring your camera! There’s often a street band playing in the corner as well.
Dinh Tuan — Google review
Just as Bratislava Castle is a symbol of the city of Bratislava, the bronze statue of Čumil (literally "the Gaper") is a symbol of busy streets in the center of Bratislava. Čumil peeks out of the canal, smiles, and looks dreamy into the distance. The bronze statue of Čumil enjoys great popularity among children and tourists from every corner of the world who are happy to take pictures standing next to him.
Čumil has been decorating the intersection of Laurinská, Panská and Rybia gates since 1997. The statue was made by Viktor Hulík. The statue was not based on any model and no ancient story is associated with it. In fact, it is the embodiment of the heart atmosphere of the historical center of Bratislava.

For free and hard to miss in the heart of the city. One of the many sculptures on the road downtown. Nicely done and during day time there is a queue for taking pictures. If you stay overnight you may consider going in the evening or earlier morning. Consider to see some of the other spots as well and not only the ones marked in the maps. There are plenty around.

Difficult to find this, as its not a very huge sculpture. Please observe properly on the street and there is a pole beside that where Men in Work is displayed. Something very unique. Firstly, I didn't know about this statue. I just came across and saw it. I had a feeling that I needed to take a picture here. I was looking into details deeply. Translation of the word Čumil as “The watcher.“ The first rumour says that he is a typical communist-era worker who is not bothered about the work he’s presumed to be doing. According to the next rumour, he’s staring under the women’s skirts. This most photographed statue of old town. It also attracts many tourists at the junction of Laurinská and Panská streets.

In search of a unique identity, many cities in both Eastern and Western Europe have sought ways to make visitors remember the location. This is an example of effective communication. To some extent, the window, which appears (has appeared) in too many forms of souvenirs, on postcards when they still existed, in glass balls, ... It still attracts visitors who take photos in all possible and less possible and tasteful forms. Still nice and interesting. Two different recordings, two different occasions...

Čumil - There are two possible explanations for his name. One explanation refers to the worker resting at his work. Another explanation claims that the worker took advantage of his workplace and looked up the skirts of women walking past. A legend says that if you touch the man's head, a wish will come true. This is also one reason why the head is so polished. It’s definitely worth to see the sculpture. I can highly recommend it!
Alper K. — Google review
The statue's name, Čumil, translates to "watcher" or "looker" in Slovak, and it is thought to represent someone who enjoys observing the world around them.
It has become such a beloved figure in Bratislava that the statue's head has been polished shiny from the tradition where people rub its head for good luck.

Not the most exciting thing ever, but still a must see in Bratislava, since it is pretty iconic and neither costs money nor time to visit.
The captivating Old Town in Bratislava houses the stunning Bratislava Castle, which offers panoramic city views. Adorned with vibrant glazed tiles, the Blue Church is another must-see attraction. Medická záhrada park features numerous sculptures, while designer boutiques are located along Nedbalova street. Main Square is packed with clubs and cocktail bars, and dining options range from traditional Slovak pubs to vegetarian cafes and international cuisine establishments.
The beautiful white box on a hill high above the Danube is Bratislava Castle, which is often overlooked because it's not a popular tourist destination. However, despite its lack of visitor traffic, the castle has some great sights to offer including fantastic views over the Old Town, the Danube and housing estate Petrzalka on the banks of the river. The castle also contains a history museum with many chambers that are underused but still worth visiting.
Really nice little town famous for its colourful church. The short but steep walk to the castle affords great views. One route is by many steps, the other by a steep slope, it can be a bit slippy underfoot

A landmark of Bratislava this castle is situated on a hill overlooking not only the city but Austria and Hungary as well. It has been reconstructed many times throughout history and it has well preserved gardens and yard. We did not go inside, maybe another time. It offers unique views of the city's bridges, the river Danube, the cathedrals and the old and new buildings. Apart from the tourists and tourist groups, we saw local people there doing sports, taking their dogs out or just going for a walk. It's a lovely place to visit anytime of the day and at night it can be seen beautifully lighted from many parts of the city.

It was a one in a life time experience for me and my family. The history was incredible, and the views were fantastic. If you ever decide to take a backpacking trip across Eastern Europe with a friend or family, you have got to stop and take your amazing pictures here! And go through the museum too.

Beautiful castle on top of hill. The views from there are amazing. There is also a playground there in the shade. There are chairs around for the adults. The grounds are free to visit, which is fantastic. The baroque gardens are well maintained and beautiful.

Beautiful Castle! We didn't spend much time here, probably 30 minutes. We were on a tour of the City, and we were only able to walk around a little bit before getting on a bus to visit the rest of the City. There are great views of the City and the Danube River from here. The gardens on the north side of castle are beautiful as well.

It is a very well maintained castle with beautiful gardens. But I feel like the 5 were missing. There is one panel at the entrance with details regarding the castle, but after this point, I couldn't find any other explanation. If you are bad with memory, like I am, you wouldn't know what you are seeing. Overall, the experience is nice and worth it. The views from the castle are amazing!

Beautifully restored castle. There's tours here and great informational rooms here. Price is decent too. Best to book in advance so you don't get caught up in queues. Very scenic from the front of the castle looking at the Danube River. Would recommend as a must see attraction when visiting Bratislava!!

A nice Slovak monument, though, a place that could use a bit of detailed attention. It seems new but somehow falls behind similar places, missing soul somehow.
I like it the best at night when the surroundings are not full of people (you can, however, meet younger people drinking there at that time. Still worth seeing and walking in and around. Makes up for nice pictures.

Very nice place. Enter is free. Amazing view on Danube and Bratislava. Danube is green and strong with many tourist boat. There is souvenir shop, but it is very expensive. You can walk through castle and yard. It is unbelievable and unforgettable. Recommend to visit.

The must-visit place in Bratislava, which written history begins in 907, can be seen from many places in the city. The castle offers panoramic views and a rich historical experience. Take a leisurely stroll through its grounds, explore the museum, and be sure to capture breathtaking photos of the cityscape from the castle's vantage point.

A nice place to visit while in Bratislava. Honestly, for me it's just a castle 😅. But have to admit that you see a nice view of the city as u go up. It overlooks the UGO tower and city bridge. Plus u can see windmills in Vienna and there is also a beautiful meadow to relax.

Not the traditional castle looking, it’s rectangular building with towers at each corner. It’s historical and nice looking you can overlook Danube river. We enjoyed our visit. 2-3 hours requires to see entire building and surroundings.

I liked the walk up to the castle and the views of the city from the top. I didn't get to go inside because it was closed, but I still spent about 2 hours wandering around and absorbing the beautiful views of the city and the river.

We enjoyed the views from the outside and walking around the exterior of the Castle but the inside is very odd. It's not expensive but, there isn't much to see, it's all spread out inside so there's lots of walking and stairs and the architecture isn't very interesting. For some it might appeal but, we weren't very impressed.

Nice walk from the Old City but be prepared for steep climbs. Amazing views I’d the city and surround area. Didn’t go inside the castle but you can wander the grounds freely.

Very cute place. You can enjoy the views and gardens for free.
If you want to get inside you have to pay for a ticket, the museum was not very big and with different things not related to the castle such as more contemporary history and modern art. If you are not a big fan you could skip it and enjoy instead the views and take pictures from outside the castle

Nice castle and a fun walk through little streets to get there. The castle had been destroyed and rebuild so it looks pretty new and doesn’t have that typical castle feel. Fun to walk around it and enjoy the view and the garden without having to pay entrance!
It’s not a very big area, we walked around for about 30 minutes.

What a beautiful view to watch another leisurely day come to an end. Worth the short hike up. A must see for any tourist. The bathrooms were not open after hours when I visited though or I couldn't find them. The map was not helpful in that regard.

Castle is well worth the visit - and it’s free. The view is great. But, the museum costs money ….. however, it’s half price for seniors and students and it’s absolutely brilliant. I rushed around and that took two hours. It’s massive. Archaeological and History. Great icon art. It’s well worth a visit

We didn’t go inside the museum, but the grounds are beautiful and so peaceful! I was surprised how few people were in the gardens. I sat on an bench out there for a while, and it was very relaxing. It’s way up on a hill, but definitely worth the walk!

I really love this castle; it's so pretty, even when you're far away. Just a little climb from the bus station, and you'll be there. The view from up there and the castle itself are both incredibly beautiful. If you're into stunning sights and don't mind a short uphill walk, you'll be amazed by this charming castle and the fantastic view.

A very nice place for a walk. There is a museum on the territory (paid).
I wanted to get into the garden near the castle, but it was closed (it was late, in the evening).
A particularly beautiful view opens onto the old town and the river.
I recommend coming at sunset, when the sun's rays are soft and you get very good photos!)

Probably my favourite sight in the city. The outside is quite striking with great building views, the art is religious themed and can be thought provoking. I liked the views of the city too.
It's well worth the entrance fees. Lots of walking required so be prepared.

Definitely a must see in Bratislava! The rebuilt castle made an incredible impression on me. It looks fabulous from the outside, the gardens are also beautiful, and the interior of the castle is very elegantly decorated. It's actually a castle, but there is a large museum there that is really worth visiting! You can easily spend 3-4 hours visiting. the tower offers a great panorama of the city. A ticket to the museum costs €12.

Definitely a must see in Bratislava! The castle looks stunning even in the winter from both outside and inside, the gardens are also beautiful, and the interior of the castle is very elegantly decorated in white and gold, and red. A ticket to the museum costs €12 per person and I love the Christmas market outside in the yard, one of the best wines I have tried, I definitively recommend visiting.

This is a very basic caste on the outside and inside. The museum was minimal. On the first Wednesday of each month the entrance fee is free. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit. The best part is the view from this location to the river and city below. There is a castle parking garage that has stairs that go up to the castle hill and it’s not a far walk to the castle entrance.
Travelbuff — Google review
Great views over the city and pleasant park. The castle itself is a cold, soulless rebuild from the 1950s, with empty and white interiors. Decent museum collection though. Can't miss it when here but not a must see either.

If you are in Bratislava, you must definitely visit its castle. The area that you see around the castle, as you walk to it, it's very nice and it's something different than the old town. The castle is quite big and located on the top, which makes it a great spot for photos and a view of the city. You can enjoy a walk around it, do some contemplating while your eyes run through the city and go down from the small roads on the rear side, for some mote exploration.
I read that the castle inside hasn't got much to offer, so I can't have an honest opinion, as I trusted the fellow reviewer and didn't visit sas well..
+ a lot of labes, price is good and with saves,

One of the best outlets in Europe. Quality shops and a lot of good restaurants and cafes in the complex. They have most of the popular brands here. Only down side the the commute to the area if you are staying in Vienna. Specially going back at night. Since the traffics can get bad at closing time. I suggest leaving 1-2hrs before closing. Pls also check their operation hours specially holidays and they are close on Sundays. Overall. It is worth visiting specially if you have a 3 or more days in Vienna.

Belvedere Palace is a museum in Vienna, Austria that contains a wide range of art from the Middle Ages to today. The collection has particular importance for its holdings of Gustav Klimt paintings, which are some of the most beautiful and iconic works in the whole of Austria. The palace and its gardens make for a lovely place to spend an afternoon, and it's worth visiting if you're interested in Austrian art.
This is a must visit location in Vienna! The gardens are stunning in their elegance and memories of a bygone age abound in the architecture and layout.
The views of the hills around Vienna are wonderful.
You have beautiful water fountains to calm body and mind, and there's a lovely cafe at the Upper Belvedere where you can sit indoors / outdoors and relax whilst contemplating life in Vienna.
In addition, last, but certainly not least, you have the Gustav Klimt exhibition and the palace itself.
Time well spent, I'd say!

The complex of palaces and gardens Belvedere is just a masterpiece. Two palaces (upper and lower), a complex of fountains, landscape design, a huge square. Therefore, this place is always crowded. Gorgeous art exposition of Gustav Klimt, including his most famous works. If you decide to see the palaces from the inside and see a collection of paintings, then it is better to take tickets online (the difference is noticeable). On Belvedere it is necessary to have at least 5-6 hours. It's worth to see it by own
The buildings look amazing as well as the garden. Sculptures and fountains located along the paths are pleasing to the eyes.

*Note, I didn’t go into the Museum. This is about the gardens. I didn’t feel like going to see “The Kiss” which is the main reason you go to this Museum.
The gardens are absolutely spectacular. All three levels of them. The bottom level is fun to kind of walk through the hedges and find a little spots. Some of them have sculptures and some of them just have park benches but you don’t know till you enter. The two main fountains are beautiful and super picturesque one side you can see the beautiful palace on the other side you can see Vienna making both sides beautiful in different ways. You can easy spend a good 2 hours just walking and enjoying the gardens

My visit to Belvedere Castle in Vienna was a captivating journey through both art and history. This splendid palace, with its magnificent architecture and stunning gardens, is a true gem in the heart of the city.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the incredible collection of art housed within the castle. The Upper Belvedere, in particular, showcases an array of masterpieces, including works by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. These paintings are not only artistically significant but also culturally and historically important.
The beautiful gardens, with their meticulously landscaped design, provided a serene backdrop for the castle. The views of Vienna from the terraces were absolutely breathtaking, making it a picture-perfect spot.
The staff at Belvedere Castle were informative and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply seeking a taste of Austrian culture and history, a visit to Belvedere Castle is a must. It's a cultural treasure trove that offers an unforgettable and visually stunning journey. I highly recommend it to anyone exploring Vienna.

Absolutely stunning palace. If you are short on time, do just the upper palace. Keep in mind entry is per the time given for your ticket. They don't take you in early and only give you a 20 minute window if you are delayed. The exhibitions are on three levels and it takes at least an hour to see each of them properly, 90 minutes for each level if you want to do justice to the beautiful paintings, sculptures and the rooms of the palace. The lower level has medieval and modern art if that's your thing. The gardens between the palaces are lovely too.

A beautiful palace with astonishing architecture and stunning gardens! The interior isn’t what you would expect as the palace was restored after being bombed in WW2. There is a beautiful ballroom made of marble on the second floor. The palace is filled with paintings from different periods and styles and can be considered more like a gallery.

It's hard to put this in to words how much this is worth visiting. You need to like art and you need to have patience to walk around and enjoy the culture. It was spectacular to see Klimt's the kiss. We were fascinated by this incredible piece of Vienna’s history. Upon entering from the main gate you have this huge space with a lake and manicured flower beds.
At the entrance of the museum you must deposit your backpacks in a special room at the "bag storage" and you can choose which direction to take first. The visit inside the museum has no time limit, you can go inside for as long as you want. It really is a must-see tourist attraction. We recommend making tickets online so you can skip the line at the ticket office.

We only visited The upper Palace at Belvedere as this has a great art collection in particular the works of Gustav Klimt and many other great works of art. The building itself is spectacular as it was built as a Palace and never occupied as such, now serving as an Art Gallery. It also has a very nice cafe which looks out onto the gardens and Lower Belvedere.
There is, of course, a gift shop where one can buy memories at all budget levels.

Very impressive grounds and buildings - worth a trip just to walk around outside. Of course, the main attraction is Klimt's "The Kiss", but there are many other wonderful works of art. It's not as large as some other galleries and as such, it only took us about an hour and a half to look around. We went towards the end of the day and it wasn't too busy.
We had the Vienna Pass and couldn't see how to pre-book tickets on line, so went to the ticket sales on the day to find out we didn't need a ticket and to just show the Vienna Pass at the main entrance.

Beautiful Palace- the art collection well worth the visit. Beautiful building. Some areas in the grounds a little run down/messy which was surprising. We bought tickets online and there was no waiting time. But there was a small issue, they were renovating the part where you can store your luggage, so it was an extra effort to take it back to the HBf, to store it and to come back. The online ticket was valid for one hour, so you need to be careful to not miss it. The museum itself is a bit overrated and 17€ is really too much for it.

Don't buy ticket. Just go visit the garden.
Well the palace is huge and is ticked. However, the garden behind it captures its essence is what I had heard. The garden is open for all for free. It has beautiful sculptures, a lot of flora, and fountains. The sculptures are unique and perfect for time travel. The garden is extremely well kept and has flowers like tulip and lavender. One can breath the fragrance in the air. A lot of tourists stop here and so should you!
You can sit around and take a moment to absorb the beauty.
There's a small cafe there as well which too is open for all. They seemed to have a decent collection but they don't allow takeaway... They are strictly "dine-in" only. We were in a rush so couldn't sit in, but if you have time - the desserts looked good

I loved the Palace itself, it’s so gorgeous it’s actually a little overwhelming. The view is breathtaking to the point I felt like I was not paying enough attention to the art displayed inside.
This is one of the best, if not the best overall museum I have ever been to. Unfortunately my visit has been a bit tainted by the way I was greeted at the entrance. I was told to use the lockers on the left hand side, to my surprise those required a €2 coin to be inserted, which I did not have so started panicking a little, understandably - this visit was the highlight of my trip and having spent close to 8 hours travelling to Vienna, tiredness started catching up to me. I saw no mention of this on the website. In fact, I checked the FAQ prior to my visit as I contemplated heading to the hotel first, having been on the move since I arrived in Vienna earlier in the morning. For those interested, from Belvedere website: Yes, you will find lockers, free of charge, at all Belvedere locations.
How come was I directed to paid lockers? I can only imagine this was an attempt to get even more money from those visiting. Extremely disappointing and distasteful. I eventually headed to the cloakroom, where I was able to leave my backpack indeed free of charge.
I am the kind of person who always visits the museum gift shops to have something to bring back the memories, however on this occasion I decided not to purchase anything, purely because of the locker situation.
The Gothic cathedral St. Stephan's Cathedral is located in the heart of Vienna and boasts an ornate spire, catacombs, and a treasury museum. It is a popular Instagram spot for panoramas of the cityscape from either the tower or the outside.
Very very stunning church in the heart of the city. Made it there during mass in the evening, but will definitely be going back today to get the feel of the place during the day.
Amazing architecture from both inside and outside. It’s jaw dropping. And it has such an amazing/positive/calming energy.
The is no entrance fee to the church itself but if you wanna climb the tower and its 300+ steps or to see the catacombs you need to pay. Will add an update after I do the tours today.

Totally worth visiting it's free to enter. We visited in the evening and it was almost empty likely because tour groups go in the morning. The amazing detail in these buildings is always amazing and something worth experiencing. You can enjoy it inside and out.

Beautiful church, most of the main parts are free to visit so I can't think of a reason to not visit.
There are some parts of the church which you need to pay to enter, I paid for the catacombs tour and recommend that. I also paid to go up the north tower, you get good views of Vienna and a good look at the amazing tiled roof, however I am not sure it is worth the asking price of EUR 6 - take a look at the photos below and decide for yourself whether you want to pay to go up.
You can only buy tickets in person at the church, you cannot buy them online in advance, also they only accept cash, no cards.

Be fit if you're going up the south tower worth it for the view. North tower little lift ride to the top great to see the tiled roof up close. The catacombs tour was good. I got out of the afternoon heat for half an hour, which is very informative. Highly recommended to buy an all-inclusive ticket

This was an incredibly interesting and beautiful place to visit. There are several options for tickets, we chose the € 20 all inclusive per person one.
This allows a visit to the Cathedral itself plus both the North and South towers. One has an elevator and the other over 300 steps.Even though we could access both, we went with the elevator.
The view was fantastic, both of the city and the rest of the Cathedral. Then we had a guided tour of the crypt, absolutely brilliant and a great tour guide. The tour was in German and English and highly worth taking.
I would highly recommend this tour and if at all possible, try to be there for 10 am at least before the crowd. This part of Vienna is incredibly busy with tourists..
Also tickets are not available online and must be purchased in person in the Cathedral. This is cash only, as is the gift shop.

This is a must see for Vienna! The architecture is stunning. Once you’re inside the cathedral it is totally majestic and grand. My 69 yo father and I climbed Stephansdom South Tower - 343 steps in total. The views from the top were grand. Highly recommend!

St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna is a majestic masterpiece that truly captures the essence of the city's rich history and architectural grandeur. The awe-inspiring spires and intricate details make it a must-visit landmark. The interior is equally impressive, with stunning stained glass windows and ornate decor. Whether you're drawn to its religious significance or appreciate remarkable craftsmanship, St. Stephen's Cathedral stands as a symbol of Vienna's cultural and spiritual heritage. A visit to this iconic site is a journey through time, offering a glimpse into the heart of Vienna's enchanting past.

Behold the majestic splendor of Saint Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, a timeless masterpiece that transcends mere architecture to embody the very soul of Austria's rich history and cultural heritage.
As you step through its ancient gates, you are transported to a realm where the whispers of the past mingle with the echoes of the present. Towering spires reach towards the heavens, their intricate facades adorned with intricate carvings that tell stories of triumph and tribulation, of faith and fortitude.
Inside, a symphony of light dances through stained glass windows, painting the hallowed halls with a kaleidoscope of colors that inspire awe and reverence. Each step unveils a new wonder: from the grandeur of the nave to the serenity of the chapels, every corner holds a treasure waiting to be discovered.
But it is not only the physical beauty of Saint Stephen's Cathedral that captivates the soul. It is the palpable sense of history that permeates its walls, the echoes of centuries of prayers and praises that linger in the air. Here, amid the hushed whispers of pilgrims and the solemn strains of organ music, one cannot help but feel a connection to something greater than oneself.
Saint Stephen's Cathedral is not merely a building; it is a living testament to the enduring power of faith and the indomitable spirit of humanity. It is a place where the past meets the present, where the sacred and the sublime converge in a harmony that transcends time itself.
To visit Saint Stephen's Cathedral is to embark on a journey through the annals of history, to walk in the footsteps of kings and queens, poets and peasants. It is an experience that will stay with you long after you have left its hallowed halls, a reminder of the enduring beauty and majesty of the human spirit.

I recommend you to take all in one ticket. You can buy it inside, go to the left and you will see the entry to the South Tower. Buy a ticket and go to the North tower. To get there, go out and walk around the church to the left side. You will see the entry to the North tower. It was not easy to get to the top, pretty narrow staircase corridor and long way up. The reason why you should go to this tower first because it closes earlier (see photo). You can observe night city from the South tower only.

I had the opportunity to go inside and check out this incredibly historic cathedral located in the city centre of Vienna. Both the inside and outside of the cathedral are stunning and picturesque. It is free to enter the church but there is also certain areas of the church that you need too pay to enter. I definitely could have spent more time in here and would definitely do it again when in Vienna and definitely recommend stepping inside if you haven’t at least once for a few minutes. At the time we we’re here it was mid November and there was a large Christmas market set up in the city center and we were wondering around on the evening when the area was most lively. Definitely wish to come back in the future.

Amazing cathedral! This cathedral is one of the highlights of the city. The exterior is very beautiful (especially the Eagle on the roof) and interior is also really impressive. Going inside is free of charge but if you want to go further or to the catacombs there is a charge.

Such a stunning piece of architecture! One of the most beautiful cathedrals I’ve ever been to in Europe. The detailed work here is marvellous. I’d say it’s a must visit if you’re in Vienna. You won’t regret it.

Check times. Closed for tourists during mass. Free entry but pay for central bit and catacomb tour. Very busy when we went around 13.30.
It is truly subjective as it does depend on how much churches and cathedrals you’ve visited. We have visited too many I think especially the ones in Italy and even in England, hence this was a bit underwhelming. Gothic design. Tick. Ornate carvings. Tick. Not all of the outside has been cleaned which is authentic I think. We could see how history and time have affected it. Black soot/smoke from centuries gone.
One thing to commend it for being different - amazing roof!! That, I love. ❤️

Wow, St. Stephen's Cathedral is incredibly impressive, its size is breathtaking. The beautiful Gothic building is a symbol of Vienna. From the cathedral tower is a wonderful view of the city, but I warn you, there are 343 stairs to climb and it is very narrow, but it is worth it, I went up in June at 36°C outside 🤣

Beautiful cathedral! The view from above is worth all the effort to climb the narrow staircase with 343 steps. The acoustics inside is fantastic. If you manage to attend to a concert, consider yourself a lucky ! The cathedral choir is very good!

Beautiful Cathedral in central Vienna. While you do not have to pay to enter the church, there is a fee to tour the entire inside of the church. The line was too long the day we arrived, so we did not visit everything. Still beautiful and can take great photos from the free area.

Wow. I'll be yet another person to add a 5* review to this magnificent church! Stunning in its exterior, the beauty manages to extend to its interior. We made it during a mass which was great to experience and then visited again in the evening. Let the pictures speak as opposed to my review, and in reality, if you're in Vienna you're probably going to visit :)
Ultimately, my only gripe is that they only accept cash for tours.

The church is beautiful! A must see in Vienna. I like that they have divided their tour into sections and prices and you can buy an all inclusive or just buy the ones that you want. We bought the cathedral and catacombs. Cathedral has a QR code tour on your phone that is very informative. The catacombs were amazing and a little scary. Must see. We wanted to go to treasury too but the timings didn’t work for us. Do check opening times because they seem to open and close for visitors throughout the day/week, depending on services and mass.

Very beautiful cathedral. Since I came on Sunday, it's a good time for praying and no ticket entry but you can donate with buying souvenirs, and you can buy ticket inside if you want to look further more. 🙏🙏

We loved St. Stephen’s! We decided to buy tickets to the catacomb tour and the South Tower and we felt that we saw plenty. I think we spent about 10€ per person total to see both.
We loved the catacombs tour. Our guide was very enthusiastic and gave us a lot of information about the catacombs. It was very in depth and in both German and English. You pay at the end of the tour in cash (they have change).
The south tower was quite a trek - not for the faint of heart or claustrophobic. The stairs are very narrow and you end up walking past people going the opposite way. It gets very hot as well, so I’m not sure I’d recommend going on a hot day. We went on a rainy day and it was cooking, but thankfully the windows at the watch tower were open with a nice breeze to cool down at. You pay for tickets at the entrance of the South Tower.

You must visit this cathedral when you are in Vienna. It is the most beautiful church in the city and probably in Central Europe. The exterior of this gothic cathedral was build from 1300-1500. It used to have the highest church tower in the world, and when you enter this cathedral you will be amazed on how much effort the Viennese put in building this master piece. This church entry is free. But you can also visit some of the paid areas of the cathedral

An awesome inspiring cathedral inside and out. The outside is amazing with the tiles and spires . Inside doesn't disappoint with ornate interior , stained glass, high buttresses. A must while in Vienna . It is free but you can ppay more to see more.

I think it is one of the most important cathedrals in Gothic architecture. It is truly a magnificent work, it also has ties with the Ottoman Empire. It was used as a shelter during Ottoman sieges, and its bells were also used to warn Turkish raiders...

I visited St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. It was a magnificent building with a rich history, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling through its grand halls, one can't help but be awed by its beauty and the stories it holds. It's definitely a must-visit for anyone exploring Vienna, offering a glimpse into the city's rich past and architectural marvels.

Amazing gothic cathedral. The main cathedral in Vienna.
You can get an all inclusive ticket for 25€ to go up both towers, the museum and the catacombs or it's about 7€ for each thing individually. We just visited the catacombs as my husband had been up the tower previously. The catacombs are well worth the visit! The tour guide we had was very good. The tour was done in both German and English and very informative and the tour guide was very charismatic.

The construction began in 1137 and completed in 1578, however due to circumstances such as fire and WW2, it needs to renovate or reconstruct until to this time.
Anyway, this century old cathedral is one of the marvelous I've ever seen.
It is an iconic tourist spot located in the heart of Vienna.
The interior and exterior are jaw-dropping.
It is a free entrance and yet a long queue especially in the afternoon.
There is a portion inside the cathedral to purchase ticket entrance.
During my visit, a throng of people passes by and you can't concentrate nor roaming around.
It was such an honor to see, feel and experience a hundred centuries structural buildings.
Recommendable tourist spot but I prefer you to come here as early in the morning to avoid people.

St. Stephen's Cathedral, or Stephansdom, is a stunning Gothic masterpiece situated in the heart of Vienna. Construction began in the 12th century, and the cathedral has undergone various modifications and expansions over the centuries. Its iconic spire, reaching over 136 meters (446 feet) high, dominates the city skyline. The cathedral's interior is equally impressive, with intricate stained glass windows, majestic altars, and a beautifully crafted pulpit. St. Stephen's Cathedral is not only a significant religious site but also a symbol of Vienna's rich history and cultural heritage.
The historic city center of Vienna, known as Historisches Zentrum von Wien, is a magnificent sight filled with elegant buildings, baroque castles and parks. The 19th-century Ringstrasse boulevard is the highlight of the area with numerous incredible buildings adorned with fascinating designs, carvings and statues. The location is exceptionally clean but can be overcrowded during holidays making it difficult for taxis and cars to pass through.
A truly beautiful sight. There are several buildings in this location. All with amazing and intriguing designs, statues, patterns and carvings. The area is very clean. Taking pics and stopping to admire can be uncomfortable as the area is extremely busy(as it should be). So better go in the morning or early afternoon on weekdays. During holidays, the area is decorated beautifully. Taxis and cars will find it difficult to pass the streets here due to excess pedestrians. All in all, amazing place, definitely a most visit when you are in Vienna.

A truly beautiful area of Vienna. There are numerous buildings in this area with amazing architecture, sculptures, patterns, museums and carvings. The area is very clean and has lots of opportunities for taking photos. The area is most busy in the evenings and nights when everyone comes out. During holidays the area is decorated beautifully and has many Christmas markets around the area as I experienced when I visited here. In my opposition from what I saw the best one was the large Christmas market near and around St. Stephens Cathedral in the historic city centre. I would definitely recommend this area as a must visit when you are in Vienna.I would definitely visit this area again when I am in Vienna

No other city in the world can be like Vienna. It would take three life times to see it all, and then a fourth to see what you have forgotten! Don't get into the tourist traps, but read about Vienna, get a good city map, learn some German, and venture out into the city filled with secret, small passages, Cafés, wonderful museums and very good food.

Schönbrunn Palace is an important and popular tourist destination in Vienna,Austria. The exterior of the castle is brightly painted yellow and its gardens are meticulously maintained. Within the palace walls are many ornate ceremonial rooms, including a world-famous rococo maze.
Beautiful palace. Great place to visit during the summers to enjoy the enormous gardens and grounds surrounding of the palace. The sculptures and fountains designed are stunning. From the topmost point it has a great view of the city. The garden is enormous even for a quick walk it would take hours. The trees are arranged in a maze like structure and there are zoos and greenhouses inside along with a Japanese garden. Would recommend 🌻

An Austrian palace with big gardens, rose garden and a botanic garden. Easy to get using public transportation.
I took the 22 rooms self-tour (Imperial, 18€), and got audio guide included. Most of the rooms are not special or beautiful, the last 4-5 are the interesting rooms.
If you have 2-3 free hours, it can be nice (but not a must). I was on February and the plants are in hibernation. I believe the gardens are beautiful on the spring / summer.

It is one of the most beautiful and famous palaces in Vienna. This place has a great historical background. This place is amazing for a walk 🚶♂️ or run around. Spectacular building and gardens, really very big and as I realize, perfect for runners - the surface, shadows, small hill to run up. Grand tour with the audio guide was very worth it, a bit of history that makes the whole story interesting. I suggest to book tickets one day in advance though!

A superb palace in every way, very well designed. The yard is huge where you can spend the whole day without realizing the notion of time.
Unfortunately, I didn't have tickets to view the interior of the palace, but I am firmly convinced that it is worth to se it.
I recommend to buy the tickets in advance because they are limited.

Free entrance to the exterior area. It's a beautiful place for a walk in the city surrounded by nature. The Christmas market was open on the 1st week of January, it was lovely. I recommend booking tickets online if you wish to visit the palace inside.

Got to the ticket office when it opened at 8:30am first available opening for the palace was at nearly 4pm. I highly recommend booking your ticket(s) in advance otherwise just walk the grounds and see what you can. The 'other' gardens this time of year aren't worth the extra money in my opinion. If flowers were in bloom it'd be worth it, but otherwise see as much as you can for free. If you want to do the zoo do the combo for that and the palace. Zoo is currently under a little construction. If you're on a bit of a budget I recommend leaving the grounds to find food for something more affordable. I highly recommend getting there early if you're interested in walking around to take photos. It gets really busy after 10 am so if want photos without a bunch of people there go early. Also take some euros with you. The bathroom at the ticket office isn't free but there is one in the palace as well as one in the park.

Just amazing! An amazing thing: we did not have time to visit everything (we were left with Desert house and Palm house plus the Maze) but it closed by 16:30 and we ran out of time (we started at 10:00 touring everything on the Great Tour plus). But we came back the other day and tickets were still available, which was amazing! So you can come back anytime and finish your tour the other day :)

One of the highlights of my visit in Vienna. It was just too hot in the whole place because there are no shades. But the views are awesome. Definitely a Muss-see-attraction in Vienna.
The entrance to the garden doesn’t cost anything. There are also free water stations around the area, so don’t forget to bring a water bottle when you visit.

Beautiful palace .. fantastic tourist attraction in Vienna. The palace looks stunning in the night lights. The inside tour of the palace is nice. Photos are not allowed inside the palace. All the antique items and treasures of the palace are preserved very well. Great place to visit. Such a long area of the whole place. It might even take a full day to see the complete palace. The palace viewing tickets are sold here. A bit expensive though. Tickets are also sold to cover the half side of the palace only at half price. A lot of souvenir items are sold at the exit. The Christmas market is held here in the grounds of the palace during Christmas time.
Karthikeyan S — Google review
The palace was amazing. There was a handheld small device which provides audio guide throughout your tour in the palace and tells you interesting stories of the royals who once lived there. I got the imperial tour which let me toured through most of the rooms but I regret not getting the full tour because the palace was truly magnificent and I would love to see more of it.
I visited the palace on 1st November, which is also a Viennese public holiday - All Saints’ Day. The waiting for 3 hours for me but crowd regulation was really well done. When it was my turn to go in it wasn’t crowded and I actually had the space and time to enjoy every bits of the palace. So try to get tickets prior to arrival and you will not have to wait.
But even if you have to wait there is no worry as you can wander around the garden of the palace like I did (where I took the pictures attached) and walking about the small let me oversee the entire Vienna. The scenery and gardening was amazing.
There was a small castle, which once was the dining of the royals, on the top of the hill and has now been turned into a coffee shop and an observatory. But be noted that you can only go all the way up to the observatory if you have bought the most expensive ticket type. I did not get that so I missed the opportunity to go up.
Overall, I would say this is a must-go when visiting Vienna for the first time. You learn a lot about the local history and can enjoy amazing view. :)

Great palace, lots of content in, and around it.
Takes at least full day to see it all, and being spread on a great area, there is lots of walking!
Due to lots of tourists, there might be few hours between you buying a ticket and entering the palace.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. The whole family spent the day here, just wandering around the castle gardens. It is worth taking the long walk to the back of the castle grounds to see and eat at the coffee shop. Had cake and coffee and a rest before coming back down the hill. It took almost 3 hours. No charge for entry. Cheers big ears

I have to mention we have not been inside the palace (there is an entry fee if you are interested to go) but the outside and the park is pretty itself and free to visit and a really nice walk too! The view is amazing and if you visit during spring/ summer everything is blooming! Not far from Vienna city center and definitely worth a visit. Bathrooms available.

Went late afternoon as was doing other things.
€24 euro for standard ticket which will get you in the palace on a audio tour. Nice tour and some history along with it, about one hour or less to complete.
You can go to the right side of the palace and walk the extensive gardens etc for free, which I didn’t realize initially as some other adjacent gardens you can pay for.
Once you reach the back of the gardens you can go part way up the larger monument, to go to the top for a better view is €5 more. For the view it’s nice.
Scott Walmsley — Google review
This place is magnificent. It is free to enter and roam around the vast land area. There is a costly ticket at different prices (depending on which part/s of the palace you wanted to tour) to enter the palace. There is no line when we bought the tickets, but somehow there’s a lot of people freely roaming around the park, only few would buy tickets and enter the palace. Before entering, people need to surrender their personal belongings and get their audio phones for an audio guided tour, with different languages. It would took some time to finish the tour depending on your ticket, but the cheapest would be around 30 minutes to finish the tour. It’s not really time bounded as it depends how fast or slow you pace across rooms. Photography and filming are generally not allowed, one needs a permit for such activity inside the palace. There are souvenir shops at the ticketing area, at the end of each guided tour of the palace. Overall, it was a great experience.
For tourists who does not know the history of Austria, they may not find the guided tour fulfilling so I may suggest to read some history facts about Austria and Europe, in general, or just roam and take pictures around the park and the garden for free.

It was my second time visiting the palace though we remained in the gardens without visiting any of the rooms. This is a very beautiful castle with fantastic gardens. You will need several hours to spend time here and will definitely be rewarded for photography efforts as there is very nice contrast to use. The souvenir shop was one of the better ones and had several unique items to purchase. Just be prepared, these places, including this one, definitely aren't cheap with merchandise. It is still a place worthwhile to visit, and I recommend it to others.

A must for visiting Vienna. Manicured gardens and a well narrated prerecorded tour of the residence. Plan for timed tickets with a 60 to 90 min wait after purchase which is enough time to walk the grounds. Tours can be a bit crowded, but worth it! Bring cash to use the bathroom at the entrance.

Although I never got to see the inside, I enjoyed the grounds and the lovely Easter Market they had outside. My visit to the palace was tater spontaneous and hadn’t purchased a ticket online. If you wish to do the full tour probably best to book in advance. We managed to do the basic entry state rooms tour without delay but it was a 2hr wait otherwise, this bit really doesn't take long to view.
That said seeing the actual external architecture & vast grounds was the best bit and that's free to enjoy.

For the palace it’s a very huge palace with so many rooms. Each room had their own story and design. Beautifully decorated, with different color and furniture also the artwork in every room. I recommend to took a longer tour, so you can get to see the whole palace plus the audio guide provided insightful information.
For the other part of the palace they have an enormous size of garden. The garden are free to enter except some like the orangery or the maze. We spent a few hours walking around the gardens. I know it would be beautiful in the summer when the flowers are in bloom.
It will be very busy during weekend/public holidays. So make sure to buy the ticket beforehand.
Spilberk Castle is a medieval fortress located in the center of Brno, Czech Republic. It has been used as a royal castle, a baroque fortress, and as a prison during different times in Czech history. Today, the castle is part of the City Museum which hosts exhibitions on architecture, history, and art.
Beautiful castle - a highlight for any trip to Brno. Give yourself plenty of time for the visit as it’s large and there is a lot to see.
Lots for all the family to see and do.
Good food and drink options.

Although the castle itself is not worth visiting, but the castle ground and surrounding is just breathtakingly beautiful. Summary and caveats: not great for kids. Great for adults *if* you like 20th century art and/or photography, or early-to-late modern artifacts like old weapons, furniture, clothing, etc. Also, skip the first floor of the museum entirely, it was really not worth the time.
We spent several hours wandering through the museum and prison. The museum was delightful, aside from the first floor which is basically a tedious collection of historical illustrations with poorly translated explanations in English. Every other floor made up for it, especially the modern art exhibit. The prison was arguably something you could skip, though I personally enjoyed walking through the long dark spaces and reading about what transpired there. If you are short on time, it's very reasonable to cut the prison from your tour.

City’s big attractions aren’t appealing to me, but I’m so glad I walked up the hill to the Spilberk Castle. Don’t pay to go inside. Simply walk the trails finding views of Brno, waterfalls, and sculptures. Then walk into the castle’s courtyard and around to see the moat and more views of the city.

The view from the castle is amazing, and free.
There's also several very cheap guided tour options that allow you to enter the cast buildings. I did the "History of the Castle" tour, which I found very interesting. The tour was in Czech, but we were provided an English guidebook and our guide was also very happy to answer questions in English afterwards.
Included in our ticket was entry to an art gallery that is part of the Castle, which also gave a cool overview of some of the history of Czech art, especially in Brno.

Great variety of exhibitions for the fare price of muzeum ticket. I was surprised and very enjoyed the muzeum on a rainy day. This castle is much better than Karlstein! I learned a lot of information and history, enjoyed the pictures and art, saw the prison and more. I highly recommend to spend here 1.5-2 h. It is worth visiting.

If you like castles, I definitely recommend visiting Špilberk! It is a huge castle with a lot of exhibitions, ranging from the makings of the castle over its history as a prison up to modern-day Brno. There is art and sculptures, you can see old parts of the walls and castle, there are interactive exhibitions for kids, rooms showing how the prisoners lived and torture methods, and much more.
It includes the MMB Museum, the Tower and the Royal Chapel, the Treasures of Armoury, the underground water tanks and the casemates.
You have to buy all the tickets individually.
I bought one for the Museum, the Armoury and the Tower and Chapel and paid around 15€.
Sadly, the water tanks were closed at the time I visited the castle.
How much time should you plan:
A whole day if you want to see everything the castle has to offer
3+ hours for the exhibitions in the Museum
20 min for the Treasures of Armoury
30-40 min for the Tower and Chapel
What I would have liked to be done differently:
All the rooms with exhibitions in the museum have detailed info panels in Czech. The translations for tourists are found in booklets hanging on walls or given out by the staff. The booklets only cover an overview of the parts that are exhibited. They are not detailed and for some things, there is no translation at all. You have to translate it yourself if you want to know more. Some of the signs for orientation were only in Czech, too.
The booklets are in English and German, only in some rooms they were in French (if I am not mistaken) and only in the Treasures of Armoury I found an italian translation.
The quality of translation could be better, the English was good, some of the German (in the Armoury) was pretty bad and the sentences didn't make sense, otherwise it was okay.
It would also be very helpful if the castle could offer an estimation of time for the average stay.
There is a Bistro outside of the castle. The park around it is beautiful, especially in autumn and ideal for walks. The view is stunning, you can see the whole city of Brno and the mountains around it. It is definitely worth a visit, but plan your time accordingly.

Amazing Castle, most beautiful view
The art displayed around the castle grounds does not go well with the style of the castle (plus it looks disturbing)
Service in the bar/restaurant is typical for Europe, long waiting time and if you don't call them to your table, you won't get served

Very beautiful place to stroll around and admire the entire city of Brno.
12th-century church, constructed similarly to Viking longships & moved to this site in 1842.
Historical landmark worth visiting, the square holds a few things to look at and the church is worth visiting inside where a tour is given and information about its origin. It is not free and it costs 2 PLN to walk around the square alone or 10 PLN to also enter the church. The tickets can be bought at the shop near the gate entrance.

Beautiful Architecture and engineers have done great wooden work inside. It’s an oldest Church in Poland 🇵🇱 since 12 Century.
I wish , I would visit this beautiful Holy place once again.

We really loved visiting this church. It's definitely worth it to pay to go inside and see all the cool engravings on the wood. Very interesting history! It's also really beautiful to just walk around the church and see the cemetery and sculptures there

Beautiful church located next to Karkonoski nation park. This church was moved from Norway and re-erected in 1842. The entrance price is pretty cheap and will give you access to the church grounds and short audio history. Worth the visit.

We watch a Christmas Carol Concert here. It's beautifully done, small and cozy. It's made of wood without any nails used to build this Church.

The church is very interesting. What we did not like was that there were other buildings very close to it. Also everything is paid, if you want to have a look inside, you must pay, if you want to take pictures, you must pay... Otherwise nice architecture.

The best Norse church you can see in Poland! Formerly a church in Norway from early middle ages moved to Karpacz and built again in 19th century. The area is very nice, although packed with tourists and entrance to church is paid. However the adjacent cemetery is really nice and the sights from the hill to the valley and mountains too. A must see when visiting Karpacz.

Very nice old wooden church, originally from 12th century Norway, transplanted to Poland, lovely old details remain, cozy ambiance, comfortable place for quiet reflection. The grounds offer a little bit more to see and ponder, one or two memorials, an old graveyard and an excellent panoramic view. Good visit.
