How long is the drive from Sligo to Dublin?
The direct drive from Sligo to Dublin is 129 mi (208 km), and should have a drive time of 2 hrs 39 mins in normal traffic.
If you’re going on a road trip from Sligo to Dublin, we did the research for you and compiled some great stops along the way — with top places to visit like Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and Eagles Flying Ballymote Sligo, or the ever-popular Drumcliffe Church & W. B Yeat's Grave.
The top stops along the way from Sligo to Dublin (with short detours) are Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Zoo, and Emerald Park. Other popular stops include Trim Castle, Irish National Stud & Gardens, and Brú na Bóinne.
Drumcliffe Church & W. B Yeat's Grave is located in the foothills of Benbulben, where the poet WB Yeats is buried alongside his youthful bride, Georgie Hyde-Lee. The church has an interesting history, and visitors can read Yeats' famous epithet on his grave. Additionally, there are craft shops for local goods nearby and the opportunity to visit Glencar Waterfall as well.
Enjoyed our visit. A young choir group from the U.S.A. were actually practicing when we visited, which was nice.

Beautiful church. Beautiful views of Benbulben mountain from the graveyard. W.B Yeats grave is located to the left hand side when you're facing the church doors. Good option for a quick stop off on a journey.
Carly McLaughlin — Google review
I like the little church?, very relaxing and different style with the traditional church, Also outside of the church it’s clean and you can see the benbulbin mountain, I would say it’s a lovely place for Yeats to sleep

It's impossible not to visit W.B. Yeats' graveyard when you're in Sligo. I never understood why it's called the Yeats country until I'm here, everywhere screams of "Yeats lived here". 😅
And what a great view of the Benbulben Mountains!

Beautiful Church and graveyard, very well kept and overlooking Benbulben.
W.B.Yeats is buried here.

From being shadowed by Irelands very own "Table top mountain" and being humbled by the resting place of one of our most well know poet's
"W B Yates", Ireland has some truly magical places to visit..
Plenty of parking
Child friendly
Coffee dock available
They site is a must if you're in the area...

Beautiful place to take in the views and the church is beautiful, wb yeats grave just outside the church , great coffee shop in site to which served great treats and sandwiches along with coffee and tea etc

I arrived very early before anything other than the car park and graveyard was open. Only wished to visit the grave of Yeats and remember his work. Was able to do so with nobody else around. Stunning views from the graveyard. There is quite a bit of clutter including card donation points in the graveyard. I know churches need to raise money, yet felt surreal. Car park entrance / exit is just after speed limit sign and cars were driving too fast making a right turn to leave something that needs care.

As a student of english literature, I was interested in Yeats and his grave as well, so of course we stopped there and had a look.
There’s a statue in front which looks really interesting, and then we headed onto the graveyard, but didn’t manage to find his grave, so we headed into the church and had a look there. There’s a nice café and tourist shop neaby, and although it isn’t exactly cheap, it looks really nice and the atmosphere is lovely.
After a sign pointed us to Yeat’s grave, I have to admit that I was initially disappointed – I had expected something bigger, but then again: he was just a normal person, so this standard grave is somehow fitting.

I wandered lonely as a tourist. After a look around the graveyard I had to ask Rev Malcolm where the main man's grave was. Very understated located just to the left of the door into the church. Buried with his wife and in full view of Benbulbin. Nice little coffee shop in site too, busy but quick turnaround with visitors. Worth a visit just to chat to Malcolm, God bless you.

Easy to get to, interesting history, and some cool craft shops for local goods. Swing by Glencar Waterfall as well.
Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is the largest megalithic cemetery in Ireland and one of the biggest stone age cemeteries in Europe, boasting about 60 monuments such as dolmens, passage tombs, and stone circles that adorn its rolling hills. It's located near Sligo and believed to be older than Newgrange by 700 years. The site offers guided tours and a visitor center situated in a nearby cottage for an immersive experience.
Truly an amazing place! You will walk a little in a field but it is easy. Definitely worth it!!

Lucky to have the nice sunny day made the experience even better, lovely walk and great chat with Sally on fairies and the history of the place, worth the visit!

No information about place .. bit disappointed to be honest.
Stars for magic in place ... after all it's historical site

A fantastic collection of old tombs from the Neolithic Era.
This is the oldest of the four large Neolithic cemeteries in Ireland. There are a collection of stone circle tombs. They can be accessed via a visitor centre. The price is five euro entry for an adult and the tour is self-guided. The complex is the oldest and the simplest of the four, and the tombs are not as structurally impressive as Newgrange or Knowth. But the place has a great charm, and the setting is very beautiful, with Benbulbin and Knocknarea visible from the tombs. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in Stone Age history.
David Dancey — Google review
Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in County Sligo is considered one of the “big four” sites of megalithic sites in Ireland, together with Carrowkeel, Loughcrew Cairns and Brú na Bóinne. Carrowmore is the largest megalithic burial ground in Ireland.
There are several stone circles on the side of the road opposite the visitor center. The large passage tombs, several dolmens and stone circles are on the same side as the visitor center. The top of the large passage is missing so that visitors can see the ground plan of the tomb. Unfortunately, ugly chicken wire is used to hold the stones in place.

Haven't been here in almost 20years. Great to see the developments. Halloween and Imbolc Solstice facing Portal Tomb (If I remember correctly). Very interesting. Hope it gets the UNESCO Heritage recognition.

Rainy day but good walking views up lose to ruins. Don't forgeto to check out the rest of them across the street as well as the informational rooms.

Nice place - well, it's just rocks in the landscape and a small museum, but nevertheless: nice place.

Fantastic experience and beautiful area at the same time. Learn about the ancients and how they lived, from the information in the visitor area. You can either have a guided tour or choose to do as you please. The lovely staff (shout out to Sally) are very helpful and friendly, you will get a printed info sheet showing a suggested route to view the tombs with some information too. There are toilets also and large car park.

A pretty cool spot with some great history. The employees were awesome. We arrived at the site looking forward to it, but saw a sign that only cash was accepted. Given that we are from the US and only recently arrived in Ireland from the UK we hadn't yet exchanged our GBP for Euros. The employee allowed us in for free, but I did provide a tip of 10 pounds. The employee would not allow me to leave more.
Bryan — Google review
Great place to visit. The staff were really helpful and answered all our questions. On entrance, you are given a map with a self guided tour on it and the staff explain how to use it. The map is handed in at the end to be re-used which is just excellent.
The tombs are all outside and there is a path to follow.
The little information centre is very helpful to place the tombs in context but it would have been good to see a few of the artefacts that were unearthed here (they are in the museum of archeology in Dublin).
Not dog friendly.
Amanda Stephenson — Google review
If you're interested in the neolithic age this is a fascinating place to visit, with 30 tombs across the area including the impressive 35m cairn at the centre. Also wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and tombs surrounding the area including Meabh's tomb.

We loved the tour, while visiting the Megalithic Cemetery near Sligo, Ireland. Our tour guide, Lynda, was wonderful. Informative, funny, knowledgeable, great story-teller. So interesting. Worth doing! So many cool myths, scientific perspectives, etc. If you're in the area, please go!

Eagles Flying Ballymote Sligo
Farm
Nature & Parks
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Owls, hawks, falcons are available for viewing & flight shows alongside a small petting zoo.
This place is a 'must go to' for animal lovers. To see a mix of rescued animals, for those wanting to learn more about different species of birds, a family day out, a hands on experience, lots of laughs, a warm welcome and all in a professional and relaxed environment... this is definitely the place to go. Thank you so much to all the staff and in particular to the two wonderful handlers.5*
Gillian Black — Google review
Very enjoyable for both kids and adults alike, our group were aged from 4 to 73, all had a great afternoon. The show allows you to get up close to eagles, hawks and owls and there is a pet farm which can be visited afterwards.
Richard Free — Google review
Not sure where all these excellent reviews are coming from but we had bad experience. €60 for 3 of us. We could hardly hear a word of what the lady was saying about the birds.
We were at the back of bird show so saw very little. A long walk in with one lady partially blind but the road was blocked off to go any further to get closer.
Got the impression the petting zoo I could pet the foxes etc, that wasn’t the case.
Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Spent a brilliant morning. Friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated staff. The staff were also patient and engaging with children. Only about 15-20 minute drive from Sligo town. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Absolutely brilliant place staff love there job and there birds and animals. great birds of pray show you'd learn alot about how we should be protecting our native birds.
The petting farm is great plenty of photo opportunities 45 euros for a family of 4 very cheap for what you get and your not rushed in and out very relaxed
Kenneth Jones — Google review
I’ve seen a couple of bird shows by now and this was – by far – the most informative one I’ve ever seen! The birds are really close and as they are well fed and not trained to do any tricks for visitors, some might not play along – as one of the big owls decided to do. But you can really see that the birds trust their caretakers and it was really wonderful!
Flynn On Tour — Google review
Really enjoyed visiting the Eagles Flying falconry the other day! Not only was it an amazing bird demonstration it was super informative and educational too! The girls we met working there were so easy going, friendly and so passionate about the welfare of the animals they care for - they are an absolutely amazing bunch! I think it’s well worth adding a visit to this place to your bucket list! The petting zoo at the end is also a bonus - very friendly goats gave me lots of kisses too what’s not to love ? 😊♥️

Been here a couple of times. Really enjoyed it. It's ideal for a family outing or for anyone who is into wildlife. Eagles Flying have lots of other animals too and not just birds. It's a great way to get up close to awesome birds of prey, especially during a show when they can fly over your head. All the staff are friendly, informative and seem to really love their work. Would recommend anyone to go and see for yourself 🦅.

A truly amazing place to see and learn more about birds of prey, owls and the Heron called Bernie. You will also be introduced to a family of Ferrets and there is even a pettingzoo. The birdhandlers were amazing communicating with the visitors and made this to a day to remember.

Visited with my bird mad, 7 year old Granddaughter. It certainly didn't disappoint.
Ash was a brilliant guide and educator.
My Granddaughter got to catch and pet an owl (her favourite bird).
According to her it was "the best day ever".

A great morning, the birds are amazing and the show is really special. The petting farm afterwards is super, especially for the younger kids. Would highly recommend for a family day out.

Back here after several years & loved it once again. The demonstration show was wonderful. Would certainly recommend it.
A beautiful crisp, exciting day for all ages! The price was very reasonable for two adults and a child of 7! With two hours as a session, 5 larger exhilarating slides for kids and adults; and a toddler pool, plus a pirate ship kids slide and a rip current drift wave pool! The staff was friendly and on top of their tasks! The lifegaurds were excellent and alert to all safety procedures! There's a little coffee and tea souvenir shop. An outside playground! Amusement park with go carts and many kid friendly rides!!! Just beside a wonderful Irish coast with stunning art and sea life slices! We will definitely be going back! A wonderful indoor and outdoor spot for picnics and sea side fun on a sunny or rainy day!

A great place for a family spin out! They've the pool, and then Mammy had the option of going up for a seaweed bath, but she opted out in the end. The place is as busy! I went into the lazy river with the small wan, and jaysus I nealry puked inside in it, I got fierce nauseous from going around it for half an hour. The young wans loved the slides, but I got an awful fright because, at the end they furr you off into a big deep pool! They didn't tell me that before sending me off on it! I swallowed about eighteen pints of water at the bottom! And my togs nearly came off me, and I was mortified! There was also a massive spider in the changing room, and the little small wan ran out and the lifeguard nearly died from the shock. I think they gave him a slap of a mop. The wave machine is very intense... Too intense for the little wans, they had to stay away over at the little wee diddy baby bits, like the dolphin and the mushroom. But the older wans loved it, and they claimed they were too big for waterparks! HA? Tis a fantastic place for the whole family. Twouldn't be too dear either.

Took the kids here for a Day out, staff were fantastic and helpful, facilities Clean, Pool was great, however the Wave pool/machine wasn’t working on our visit. One of my sons was 1.1m at home, measured with a tape as had checked website before booking on height requirments for slides. So we thought we were good to go. But they wouldn’t allow him on some slides with a height restriction of 1.1m, not very clear or technical on the measurement process there. (He was very disappointed, as our last visit to Aquatic centre this was an issue and caused a bit of a stir between the lad who could go and the one who couldn’t, hence why we checked before we went) this made it very difficult during visit to watch both kids with only 1 parent present, and meant a bit of waiting around at the bottom of slides with 1 lad out of water getting cold! All in all apart from this the kids did love it!
Robert Hunt — Google review
Kids had great fun. Good activities, waves, slides etc for all ages. Coming out at the end of the session was chaos in the changing rooms though as next session was coming in at the same time. Had to wait ages for changing rooms. That's why I dropped a star. Otherwise fab!
Bernadette Casey — Google review
We had a great day out here, big lockers, big changing rooms, warm showers, very clean, helpful staff. Only deducting a star because the card machine was out of action as were some of the slides. Kids want to go again! Great for all ages and not a bad price for a big family day out considering it suited all of ours ages 16 down to 6. We'll be back!
Gemma Farrell — Google review
Great place for kids. Fun pool and slides for kids. It is better for slightly older kids who can mange the water alone, but that is just part of teh pool experience. the only problem we had was that the but changing area is so so cold! my 3 were freezing getting changed,
Mary Doherty — Google review
Really disappointed. Place needs a major revamp. Locks hanging of toilet and changing room doors. Changing area is Baltic cold. Staff seem like they just dont want to be there. The pool itself is fine and plenty to do for the kids but for €31 for just me and my 3 year old not worth it.
Helen Kelly — Google review
What can I say? Absolutely amazing! With a family of 5 (3 boys teen to 8 years old) we have been to other water parks, but WaterWorld is the best! Lots of staff on duty, lots of slides & actual pools including a wave pool & lazy river & a toddler section. They don't cram loads of people in to make money, a full session is not jam packed at all. Would highly recommend a visit here when you're in Donegal.
Mary Frances McCullough — Google review
Totally loved it. They have 3 big slides, water was warm. If you are going there, be sure to be there before 2pm. They have waves at that time and they were really big waves. Call them to confirm the time of waves, don't know if it's they change the time. Good if you want to chill out, good if you want to workout climbing up the stairs for slides or running with flow in a tornado kind of circular corridor. Baby pool for babies. Highly recommended.
Billey Bans — Google review
Absolutely jam-packed. Waiting for changing rooms to go into the pool while other people who were finished their time Waiting for changing rooms to get dry and dressed. So we left before our 2 hrs were up so we could get changing rooms before the rush. Even then it wasn't easy to get one. The floors in the changing rooms were dirty. No staff cleaning them . Place felt cold as well. Kids did enjoy it. Staff were helpful and friendly. Plenty of life gards on duty.
Sandra Traynor — Google review
Great water slides, pool size itself is small (understandable its catered towards younger kids and slides).
Limited in changing rooms, where groups are leaving the pool while people are also coming in, could be better organised in that respect. Had to change in toilets both times.
€16.50 is abit expensive for an adult in my opinion for the facilities offered. Again, its a lovely place but could be better with improvement.
Ciara Nevin — Google review
We had a great day out at Waterworld Bundoran with our family. There was something for everyone, from the little ones to the adults. The slides were great fun, and the wave pool was a lot of excitement. We also enjoyed the lazy river and the kids' area.
The park was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend Waterworld Bundoran to anyone looking for a fun day out with the family.
Pros:
Variety of slides and water features
Clean and well-maintained
Friendly and helpful staff
Wave pool
Lazy river
Kids' area
Cons:
Can get crowded, especially on weekends and during the summer holidays
Changing rooms could be cleaner
Overall:
Waterworld Bundoran is a great place to spend a hot day with the family. We had a lot of fun, and we would definitely recommend it to others.

It's a good place. But don't expect a huge variety water slides.. only few slides are inside. But kids enjoyed a lot. Water wave and water loop was really enjoyable with whole family..
Swim Hat is compulsory so if you have one better to take it with you..

We had a great day.. my son and husband enjoyed the pool the slides the waves the little whirl pool..
It was a nice afternoon out which we had a good family day.. price was a little bit expensive but worth it..
The changing rooms were very small and run down and a little bit untidy.. we went on a Monday in august which I assumed would be quiet but it was quite busy..
Catherine Doyle — Google review
I was here as a child and absolutely loved it, so I took my own child, and she loved it. You have to book online, I would not show up without doing so as there are queues to get in. It was very busy when we arrived for our 1 :15 pm slot. The changing rooms are cramped, and there are not enough cubicles for people. We had to wait when they came out of the pool and try to grab one. The pool itself has 3 flume slides, and there are multiple other ones for younger children. There are lifeguards everywhere, very well manned. I would definitely go back, but I think the changing area should be expanded and cleaned more frequently.
C MCV — Google review
Our kid loved it, and we had a great time as a family, with plenty of time to experience everything. The water is regularly checked for cleanliness and there is plenty of staff present to keep things safe for everyone. The showers are super hot; maybe too much for young kids? We will come back again 😊
Rosalie Healy — Google review
Great craic for the family!! Kids LOVED it and so much lifeguards everywhere so you feel so safe. However facilities look about 30 years old, showers and changing room bit rank. Feel like could do with a serious update!
Vast, lush nature area with meadows, walking paths, picnic grounds and a 12th-century abbey ruins.
Lovely walks around lough derg. 👌🏞🏕 👍 beautiful surroundings. Lovely cafe with stunning views unfortunately Food in the cafe is not great at all. Maybe bring a picnic 😵👀 apart from that highly recommended to visit.

Lovely place to walk or enjoy activities. Too bad the parking lot is 5 euros.... if you stay just one hour it's not worth it
Marina Schmidt — Google review
Wonderful place to visit for the entire family especially if your pooch enjoys walking or you could take your bikes and have a lovely long cycle with your kids in safety and away from traffic. The Shannon cruisers Dock there too from further afield. Amazing walks, beautiful scenery. Great amenities too. Luckily Zipit is there too if you enjoy swinging through the trees at height😉
Plenty of parking but it costs €4 for the entire day which is very cheap.
Gavin Pears (Pearcruiser) — Google review
Such a nice place to spend the day with the family,it has plenty of space to walk around and enjoy the view of the lake.
There is a visitor center that offers many things to do and of course has some food and drinks. There is also a self guided tour through the tunnels and on the view tower, will cost you 10 euros for an adult. I would say it is a bit too much for what you see, but for one time it is not that bad. Plus your tour ends of walking over the forest, on the bridge around the tree tops, so that kinda makes it worth it.
But you don't have to pay anything if you just want to spend the day close to nature. Parking will cost you 4 euros for the day, but if you spend more than 20 euros in the visitor center then it is free.
All overall recommended spot.
Enjoy.

I had a fabulous day on a bike trail in Lough Key Forest Park. I hired my electric bike at Electric Bike Trails in the Activity area. I got a great day for it & planned to go back the next day but it was pelting rain all day. The guy picked the perfect bike size for me and adjusted the saddle. He gave me a helmet and told me how to navigate the forest trail. It's really good value for money. I can't recommend it highly enough.
The cafe in the Activity Area I was a bit disappointed with. It's just badly managed. It probably works really well when it's very busy but in the quiet times it's a bit of an unnecessary extra job for the customer. First you have to find a table & take a note of the number. You then have to walk through a cordoned area to see the menu to go back on yourself to place your order, take your cutlery & napkins and they didn't get the order right after all that. I think it was great expectations and mediocre service at best.
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, our guide Michael was great and a font of knowledge on ancient Ireland and the local area with some fascinating theories and never a straight answer in line with Irish custom! We'll be back

The woman in the shop was utterly disinterested and unwelcoming. No guided tour was offered. The "self guided tour" of a few exhibits was underwhelming in the extreme, and one of the two AV exhibits was out of order, which was not mentioned when we were charged full price to show ourselves around. Looking at the other reviews, we clearly got unlucky with the staff member we encountered.

Too academic without covering many sites/areas. Good for ancient Irish Tain history enthusiasts but not much physical ground covered. Only saw a couple of sites...

We visited in October, and did the Samhain tour. The tour was INCREDIBLE - Mike is an amazing guide!! We were blown away by how knowledgeable he was, and he was extremely accommodating with our request for time in the cave. We will be forever grateful for the experience. Thank you to Mike and everyone at the visitor centre!

Visited with a large group and Mike was very knowledgeable! Very neat museum displays and sites to visit nearby. Also has a great cafe adjoined to grab food or coffee/tea.

Truly a wonderful experience - the museum has a stellar selection of artifacts from ancient Ireland that my sister and I enjoyed thoroughly, particularly the video activations. We also participated in a tour with Mike of the local heritage sites, and WOW was it very cool and informative! Overall, such a unique and brilliant tourism destination, providing insight into ancient to medieval to modern Ireland from an archeological, historical, and mythological perspective. We will certainly be returning someday, and truly cannot wait! 10000/10 recommend.
P.S. Their gift shop is really cool too (:

This was a highlight of our visit to the area. We did the tour, Elaine our guide was brilliant- a wealth of information and so passionate about the subject made it all come to life for us. This is a community based project which is appealing. Worth every penny of the small entrance fee.
We visited the site and the cave.
Afterward we went back to the centre where we had a late lunch- the food was freshly made and very tasty.

Absolutely brilliant ! 👏
Very informative, beautiful displays.
Rathcroghan Visitor Centre is run by a local community group who have a passion for the area, history & folklore. The well informed staff have archaeological backgrounds and lots of enthusiasm for their fascinating subject. They expertly deliver stacks of facts understandably.
I had longed to visit Owenygat Cave, ( Cave of the Cats) the Origin place of Samhain aka Halloween for some time, but tickets to their annual Halloween tour into the Cave are rare, as only 1 tour of 8 visitors operates on weekdays at that time of year.
I got the last available ticket.
Tour guide Elaine went into some depth detailing the stories and connections of the Cave to Samhain.
The Cave itself is amazing.
The bookshop is exceptional, with a plenty of books on Rathcroghan, texts, folklore, archaeology, children's books. Check out the fascinating Rathcroghan guidebook.
Lovely gifts also are on sale. Everything has a touch of quality.
I will return for the longer Rathcroghan tour to learn about the many monuments and the seat of power for Connacht, Queen Medb and The Tain.
A superb day out.

A group of 4 of us booked for the 12pm tour, the tour had a total of 6 lead by tour guide Daniel. We were given a brief rundown of the next two hours at the Rathcroghan Vistor Centre, before jumping into the tour bus and heading off to the Rathcroghan Archaeological Site. A short distance up the road, the Mound was quite visible from the carpark. We gathered at a number of information boards and were taken on a mythological / archaeological journey through Daniels story telling before taking the short walk onto the mound it's self. Daniel is a mind of information and has an easy-going charm, we were told this, along with being such a handsome young man were due to him being from the fertile lands of Roscommon! Once we had recieved an extensive overview of the site and the multiple archaeological sites around us we walked back to the tour bus and took a short drive to Oweynagat (the cave of cats, or the gate to hell!)
We were greated by a small tunnel into the ground, tucked under a hedgerow. Now I have to say, I wasn't expecting to go 'caving' but... Don't be put off!! The journey down into the ground was wet, muddy and pretty tight in places. Daniel was always on hand to help, was calm and reassuring. I'd never done anything like this before, but am so pleased I did! It was actually quite a buzz!! Just to experience the enclosure and darkness of this place, whilst hearing about the myths and history was just incredible.
I'm giving this experience a solid 5 Stars, there are a few things to note if you are intending on booking the tour. Dress appropriately, good boots or walking footware are a must, be dressed for all weathers, this is a year round all weather tour, be prepared! You'll most likely get muddy if you go into the cave, take it on the chin.. It's a really amazing experience.
I'll definitely be recommending this to friends and family.

Last week my mother and I booked a tour at the Visitor Centre and we both loved it! Mike was our tour guide and even though I've read quite a bit about Irish Mythology I still learned a lot of new stories, especially information about Medb.
My mother has trouble walking and isn't the fastest lady out there, but Mike was very patient and she could take her time to get out of the bus and up the hill. So thank you so much for that!
My personal highlight was the cave. But if you decide to crawl into it, wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and maybe bring an extra pair of everything if you decide to go somehwere else after.
All in all it was amazing, the people were lovely and one day I will visit again!

Always a delight visiting the visitor centre and the cafe. It's great when you walk into a tourism hotspot and receive a professional welcome.
All the staff are knowledgeable and very welcoming. The prices are incredibly affordable, breakfast and lunch are great value. I usually struggle to finish the generous portions and I'm a big guy.
Plenty of secure parking and clean toilets with access for everyone of all mobility.
Highly recommended.

Fabulous tour by Elaine... very cold and windy, but spectacular views and loads of information from our guide.
Museum in the Visitor Centre is incredible!
Arigna Mining Experience is a tourist attraction located in the hills above Lough Allen, Ireland. The site serves as a testimony to Ireland's first and last coal mine, which operated from the 1600s up to 1990. It offers light- and sound-enhanced tours of an underground coal mine, including a geology and history exhibition. Visitors get to experience working conditions and dangers faced by miners with ex-miners leading the tours.
A truly amazing experience, beginning with Valerie at the front desk. The tour itself is given by a former miner which adds real authenticity to the experience. Gerry was interactive, funny and informative, with great personal experiences to share, and all the staff were very friendly. A real gem of a day out. A lovely cafe to top off the visit. Highly recommend this whole experience.

Absolutely terrific experience and Gerry the tour guide was an ex miner and knew his stuff!
He was very informative and enthusiastic - always engaging in our group and animated in everything he talked about.
Excellent trip and the family tickets were very reasonably priced.
I had wanted to do this last year but COVID restrictions were still in place so delighted to do it this time visiting Eire.
I have only advised you buy tickets and have a short wait because it's time slots you buy online.

Michael was our guide, lovely man, ex miner with plenty of tales. Not for the claustrophobic or if you have issues walking, as some parts are a bit steep, and if it has rained, can be slippy. Great experience and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon if you have food in the cafe or your own picnic on the benches outside. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

Had an amazing tour with Gerry here today - learning straight from those who have worked in the mines is fantastic. We got a level of detail that no other guide could have given us! Such an amazing visitor center.

A really enjoyable visit to the Arigna Mines. Our tour was conducted by Gérard who was full of interesting facts and banter. He was able to talk about his lived experience of working the mine which really added value to the tour. Some terrific photo opportunities both inside and outside of the mine!
Well worth a visit! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An amazing tour thanks to our wonderful guide that was a miner in this coal mine for decades. That great man has experienced so much and is so kind that he can tell you plenty of amazing stories from the day he first worked there up to the incredible work made to bring this unique tour experience (I visited many cave but that's the first coal mine I ever visited). The tour is really an immersion to the working conditions of the time in the mind but also the town life and the industrial background. So don't hesitate to question the great guide to get the full experience. Really, truly enjoyed.

Absolutely amazing experience!! Gerry our tour guide was a great man! So knowledgeable from actually working in the mine when it was open. He made sure we had as close to an experience of what it would have really been like in the mines in those days. Highly recommend this experience and leaving Gerry a nice big tip at the end! 💗

Awesome Mining Experience from a Mine worker. So much to learn here about metals and mining in Ireland with machinery they used over time and how the work flow was managed. Very well organized tour. The location has beautiful views of the village and lake nearby.

Great place to visit. All tour guides were working in the mine when in operation and are very informative. Jimmy was out tour guide and he was very friendly, funny and answered all questions. To see and hear about the conditions they use too work in is unbelievable. Some lovely views from the outside too.

A wonderful insight into what the working life of the miners must have been like. Michael, our guide (& former miner) was terrific. Very generous with how he shared his lived experience of working at Arigna. This Exhibit is worth a visit. Very nice coffee shop to avail of after the tour.

Great experience for the young and old. Very accessible also baring in mind that it is an old mine. Cant remember the name of the guild unfortunately, but he was amazing. He worked the mine from he was 15 as did his father and his father's father before him. There was nothing he didn't know about the mine and mining. Great day out had by everyone

Absolutely fantastic. Come an hour before your tour so you can soak up the view and eat in the cafe. The food was excellent and the view from inside the cafe is hard to beat. The tour itself was brilliant and the tour guide was great craic and very knowledgeable.

Fascinating. The guide brought us into the actual place that was once a main source of coal for generating electricity and contributing to the national grid. Through the smaller paths of the mine, you will see a slight fraction of the story of what our human civilization has come from. The pursuit of an energy source and how it transforms the life of the community.
As the space inside the inner part of the mine can be limited, if you are a big group (10+) maybe it's a good idea to call the museum and arrange.

Outstanding tourism experience. Knowledgeable guides and actual staff with experience of the mining times. Gerard is a wealth of knowledge and information, along with being hilarious. Tour itself is fascinating, going underground allows for a real understanding of the times. Well worth a visit.

Great little place to hear about the mining experience and workings of a drift mine. Micheal was the guide and he was very knowledgeable about the mine (he used to work there) and will answer questions if you have any. Not too pricey, lovely little gift shop and restaurant but don't go Friday if you want hot food, it's the chefs day off, Fabulous views from outside the mine and the valley is stunning.
The National Famine Museum, Strokestown Park, offers guided tours of a Georgian Palladian mansion, walled garden, and museum focusing on the 1840s famine. The mansion was commissioned in the early 18th century and is surrounded by gardens that reflect the estate's original wealth. The museum is well-designed and includes a memorial center. Visitors can take guided tours or explore independently with amenities such as a cafe/restaurant, souvenir section, and parking facilities available.
The Park's House has been opened after an extensive refurbishment and it's spectacular.
The fairy woodland walk and Victorian Gardens are a treat too.
The House now also boasts a cafe and gift shop with the entrance akin to that of a five star hotel. The staff are courteous, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating for families.
Can't wait to go back again.

We visited the famine museum and the grounds. The museum is informative and well worth a visit. The audio guides are useful and included in the admission price.
(I'd say the museum is not really suitable for young children - there are darkened rooms and lots of detail to read or listen to.)
Outside, the gardens have the potential to be lovely, but at present some parts are very overgrown and filled with weeds.

Did the Easter hunt in the gardens.
The new visitors centre is very well upgraded and the coffee shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. Coffee and cakes were very nice. One of the party had soup and a toastie, simple and tasty.
The gardens are in the winter phase. Need a lot of attention.
I look forward to coming back and seeing the gardens in the summer and visiting the famine museum.

If you like the EPIC museum in Dublin, you will like this one as well. If you like this one and haven't visited EPIC yet, visit it.
There's a family/group ticket, which can be cheaper. Check with reception.

Heartbreaking but what an excellent experience 👏 , your tour is self-lead around the museum with a handy audio guide that you link with a numbered trail. Found it emotional but we can only learn from the pass . It has a great wee café and gift shop , might consider becoming a member of the IHT as only €40 / €47 per annum PP which is not only a great saving but your contribution helps the up keep of these old buildings .

National Famine Museum was very informative about the famine (as the name suggests) and its effects on the country and its population.
Strokestown House had an hours long tour available at 12, 2, 4. The history of the 300 years old and its owners was brought to life by the guide.
A great day out with walks, walled gardens included.
RRB — Google review
The national famine museum is located in the grounds of Strokestown Park House but I will review both separately. It stated on the website that parking was plentiful but we had to park on the grass verge as there was so many visitors. We went on October 1st and a fate was on with stalls, vintage cars and other things which would explain the large crowds. The visitor centre is clean and spacious but it was a 20 minute queue waiting to purchase tickets. The staff seemed overwhelmed and waiting times for everything were huge especially the cafe at 30 minutes plus. We paid €39 for a family ticket which included a tour of the house. If we didn’t want the tour we would have paid €31 for the museum and gardens. To be honest it was okay. A lot of letters and interactive things which was nice but failed to grab the attention of my 11 year old anyway. The museum directed you towards the forest walk and the walled garden. The forest walk was a huge let down and the walled garden was nice but nothing I would call amazing. If you’re visiting the museum I would suggest getting the house tour which I found the best bit by far. I will review that separately. I would recommend a visit if you find yourself in Co. Roscommon with nothing to do.

This was a great way to better understand the background of the Irish famine. Not only do you get a the facts of what happened, you get it in the context of a wonderful museum, manor house, and grounds, which all combine to help inform you of the great tragedy that unfolded. So many things combined to create the actual suffering of the people, and a bit of mysterious murder helped increase my interest and understanding.
Btw, the ground are pretty wheelchair friendly, though the upper story of the manor house is limited to just stairs. Regardless, it was a great place to visit!

We never knew this place existed before now and decided to visit on Sunday. We also didn't know there was a vintage fair day on until we arrived. It was hard to find parking, and most people were parking in the grass verge of the driveway ( I say it was the day that was in it). We were in a party of 3, 2 adults and 1 child, so we got a family ticket for the museum and the house tour @ €39. There was a long queue at the ticket desk with only 1 person working. There was only 1 tour happening that day because of the fair, and that was at 4pm. So we had over 2 hours before the tour. The museum was very nicely laid out and had lots of different features. I think we were supposed to get an audio player when we paid, but it wasn't offered, so you didn't really get the full grasp of the museum. The fair day was good, and the old games were great fun.
We decided to get a coffee at the cafe, there were about 7 people in front of us and 3 staff behind the counter. 20 mins later, and the queue barely moved, I grabbed cold drinks out of the fridge and went up to the till skipping the queue. A better system is needed here. Again, I say it was busier than they expected. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The forest walk is just that, a small walk with a few benches if you wanted to sit ( they could have cleared the fallen leaves off the benches that morning, as all them where covered and wet). The walled gardens were lovely, I wished we had more time in them, but we had to run for the house tour. The house tour was by far the highlight, and the guy giving the tour was great, friendly, and he had a great easy and love for what he was telling us. There ares a few things this place could improve on, just small touches, no soap in the bathroom when we arrived or when we were leaving. A better system in the cafe and make sure everyone is offered headsets. But overall, we were glad we popped in.

Marble Arch Caves, located in Fermanagh within the Marble Arch Geopark, form the longest known cave system in Northern Ireland at around 11.5 kilometers in length. Visitors can enjoy guided tours on walkways and by boat through these UNESCO subterranean caves from March to September. The tour is available in English and pamphlets are provided in multiple languages including Spanish.
We had a great time at Marble Arch caves. Our guide Jordan was excellent. He said the boat tours should be returning soon. We enjoyed the short walk from the visitors centre too. Lovely cafe. A great day out and everyone was very friendly.

We did not book in advance but phoned to check if needed to. We did not spend much time in the cafe/information area or gift shop as we only had a 15 minute wait but the caves are stunning. I have not heard all these caving terms before and the explanations were all clear. Lots of walking but that's all good. Mind blowing to think it was discovered by those with basic tools!

Well worth a visit, something different that the kids really enjoyed - the tour guide had lots of little kid friendly bits that kept it interesting and fun for them. I think we got a bit of extra luck in being in quite a small group - think that's just luck of the draw re: demand for the tour slot that you book. The caves are also located on a nice looped scenic drive that's worth doing afterwards.

Our tour guide Niamh was very knowledgeable. The caves were lovely and cool 10 degrees. We took a boat trip which was probably the highlight of this for me as I am aware some people don’t get to experience it as it depends on the water levels.
I bought tickets online which I recommend.
There is a cafe and a souvenir shop as well as a vending machine selling fizzy drinks.
I recommend arriving early enough to enjoy a cup of coffee or even to stroll around before the tour starts.

Very beautiful natural caves but not my cup of tea. Understand they can't control the water levels, and the boat part is water level dependant. But how is the cost still the same if you don't get to do the boat trip part???? The whole experience needs a shake-up and revamp.

Cool experience. It's a bit of a long tour (1.15 hr) so you should definitely plan ahead. Try to go when it has been dried for a few days so you get the full boat experience as well (the first time we went, I guess the caves were flooded so no boat ride). Also, don't forget to bring a sweater. It gets chilly inside the caves.

As a young lad I never really appreciated it as much as I do now.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit even if its a little out of the way.

Some real cavers heading under ground were just ahead of me as I walked through the woods so the skeleton caver was quite funny..

The caves are so worth the drive to them through lovely woods and snow capped mountains {March). Large car park, friendly reception, small gift shop and restaurant. Our guide was superb and in no hurry as he took us along the river to different caverns. Amazing history, geology, and sights during our 1 hour 20 minute tour. Clonmacnoise is a ruined monastery in Ireland that was founded in the 6th century by St. Ciaran. Located next to the River Shannon, Clonmacnoise was once a thriving Christian monastery and served as a center for learning in Ireland. Today, Clonmacnoise is a beautiful and atmospheric ruin filled with stone ruins from centuries of monastic life.
Awesome place to visit. Lovely visitor centre and film to watch. Grounds are stunning (you can explore at will) and you can walk down to the River Shannon jetty where visitors arrive by boat and moor up to visit. I can highly recommend this place for a wonderful peaceful and thought provoking experience. There is a shop and usual facilities. Welcoming and helpful staff too.

First time here in years. We took a notion and came to visit on a beautiful summer day. The ruins are beautifully preserved and there is plenty of information inside about the area.
I also appreciate the staff telling us to pay as a group as it saved us €2 apiece. That kind of customer service deserves a mention.
I would give it 3.5 stars if that were an option. Some small points are lost with me because I feel it is a little lacking for a visitor centre with overheads. (Please don't let it dissuade you, it's just a personal feeling).
The main let down for me was I had hoped the offering in terms of entertainment could be a little stronger. It is a remarkable space to walk through and explore. Nearby there is the ruin of the castle and gorgeous views of the water. It was spectacular to swim in.
But the water offering is outside the centre and I just felt there could be something extra for visitors to make the place stand out a little more.
Still well worth a visit, especially if you are a history nerd like yours truly

A haunting, beautiful, historic location. Visit first thing in morning or last hour of the day, I was there for when it opened on a day with heavy bursts of rain. When I was ready to leave about 90 minutes after I arrived the serenity was disrupted by the amount of people walking around. There is a small museum where the original crosses are preserved with a good chunk or reading on the history and a room that plays a movie of this type of information on a loop. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Pay the entry fee to help the site run, don't be a tightwad and walk round to the cemetery and enter from the gate there. Use this route after paying to walk less than 500m to the Nun's Church up the lane.
The car park is not the biggest and looks like it could get full on a busy day. Good restrooms inside the site. Outside of the site, ruins and view, there is not a lot more, this is a focused visit for history and beauty.
The shop / cafe that is in the car park area (and not part of the historic site) is well meaning, yet not great. Stuffed full of tourist tat, expensive and the coffee is self service from a machine. If you need refreshments head to nearby Shannonbridge e.g. Shannonbridge Fort & Cafe (has a car park) or the other side of the bridge, The Hatch & Co.

Pity there was work going on and no cafe etc at nothing even near it (and it was cold as we visited in November)

As an Irishman, it is our monuments, such as these at Clonmacnoise, that instill in me a deep sense of, not only my own history, but the history of every Irish person worldwide. I would advise a brief Google search of the ruins before visiting to get a deeper understanding. There is a short explanatory movie included in the entrance price, and a wonderful display of Celtic Cross stone carving. Located in a beautiful setting with the 40 shades of green jumping out at you, this, and the Spirit of the Christian Gael rising from the ground and puncturing your soul, let's you know that this is the real deal. THIS IS IRELAND. Expertly maintained. Bualadh Bos to all concerned.

The Normans built this castle in 1210 after asserting their power over Athlone's ancient river ford, which played an essential role as a crossroad on the Shannon.
With the staff being well informed about both Irish and Scottish history, proved the information centre to be really informative. As a traveler, it’s always good to find recommendations of local places that Google may not tell you about. This tourism centre was easy to find and it’s part of the Adamson Castle.
You are greeted warmly by friendly staff and they’ll ask you a little bit about why you’re visiting, they can give you the right information as long as you ask.
If you didn’t know, they also have self-guided tours inside the Athlone Tourist Information Centre, if you’re trying to waste a little extra time for your flight, also assuming you’re interested in seeing the remains of the Adamson Castle that was built in the 12th century.

Very interesting place, small museum, I set 4 stars, just because of several rooms and attentions have been closed, and also in was not for free as others do in during pandemic, overall I really recommend to visit, it can be also not better then Bunratty castle, but anyway good enough

A wonderful way to get an overview of Athlone’s history. As a rule I don’t really like interactive exhibits but found those in the castle enthralling. I recommend making it your first stop in the city. I believe another reviewer criticized the mannequins but I think they are brilliantly made and have a fantastic theatrical feel. Well worth seeing!

It looked good from the outside then it was dearer than Kilkenny castle so I didn't go in
I don't know how you can price something in Athlone higher than Kilkenny

Very nice to visit. Interactive stuff for kids, plenty of interesting artefacts, costumes, to see Video presentation of history of castle. Nice views of city from the ramparts. Very good value for 10 euro per adult.

Amazing place! Plenty of interactive stuff to do, which is fun for adults too.
One of the tour guides showed us some hidden gems, and even recommended a (free) exhibition (just across from the castle)
Defunct distillery restored as a museum of whiskey history, with much old machinery on display.
What an amazing tour, distillery and place overall! Our tour guide explained everything and answered all of our questions. The old distillery makes you travel back in time, it's kinda magical. I didn't try the whiskey but my partner did and he said it was delicious! Highly recommended!

Seriously Enjoyable.
Distillers Cask Bottling really quite unique. I am no connoisseur, but this experience was so rewarding. The enthusiasm from the member of staff was so infectious . From the word go I was made by to feel so welcome, which I really appreciated. Deirdre continued in this vein and made for a very very pleasant and enjoyable time. Of course the whiskey is exceptional, but (and this is my second visit to the distillery) to me the wonderful staff do make for one of Ireland’s absolute gems!
Thank you so much.

Oldest distillery in Ireland. Price/quality of their whiskeys is amazing. Had a small tour with interesting info, great history and nice and patient staff. Will come back a next time to buy/taste some more; it's worth the drive!

This is a unique working small distillery. It is the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland. The setting is absolutely charming in a quiet almost pastoral setting. There's a small gift shop and a tasting bar where you can sample more than their bottles.

Caveat:
The date of the tour ended up being a bank holiday hence last production was a week before Xmas. No new brewing took place.
The tour guide was brilliant. While the tour did not drink whiskey she did her best to provide an great experience.
Being the oldest brewery is already worth a visit. The watermill are still operational. I have been told the Steam generator also works but did not see it.
The tour overall is 1 hour with no rush. Friendly atmosphere where whiskey tasting can be enjoyed.
Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely worth it. The tour is very interesting and the guide was quite friendly and knowledgeable.
The tasting at the end is great, as expected, and you can ask for the “driver experience” meaning you’ll take home all samples in tiny bottles so you can try them later, which was a nice surprise. We also got to take a small glass home. They have a nice shop so you can take your favorite whiskey home, plus their bar is quite cozy. Amazing experience :)

A working distillery with a fascinating history, making great whiskey. Michael, a local lad with “tuns” of knowledge, made the visit far more worthwhile with a tasting at the end. The tour is a must, with a wee drop. If you can’t drink at the end of the tour, they can put the samples in little bottles for you to enjoy later. 😄

Had a good time at the distillery, did the tour and also got to drink a few samples. Spent well over an hour or two here.....
Very friendly staff at front desk, and the tour guide was very informative, fun, and kind.
The visitor centre is quite big, with a lot to see and take in. Also can sit down and have a some refreshments, and a shop.
All in all a good morning drinking whiskey and learning some history.
(only negative was the price of the tour was 30 Euros, a little steep me thinks)

Pascal, our tour guide, was knowledgeable, friendly and funny. The location is very impressive, one of the best distillery tours I've done. We also loved the gifts, they were a really nice touch!
Mika Ce — Google review
The tour is interesting, the process of creating the whiskey is explained well, and there are opportunities to try alcohol at the beginning and the end. It is a pity that the old machinery isn't in use, and that the distillery there only makes a tiny fraction of the companies output.
Still very worth visiting especially if you like peated whiskey.

As visitor centre tours go this was a compact but informative tour. There's plenty of history here which was well explained by our tour guide. Tour finished with a lovely taster session and a free gift of a kilbeggan water jug. For those driving you can opt out of the taster session and get a driver pack which allows you to taste at home a great idea. The gift shop is well stocked with plenty of kilbeggans products. Give yourself time to browse even take time to enjoy the coffee shop. All in all lots on offer.
Duncan Young — Google review
When we visited Ireland we had a goal of visiting as many distilleries as possible. The Kilbeggan Distillery was on our list of stops and it was great. They offer tours and have a shop to purchase any of their signature whiskeys. Between our group we bought 6 bottles after tastings because their whiskey is fantastic. A must stop for original Irish whiskey.
William Lankford — Google review
It's worth a visit to see how whiskey was made in the old days. Having said that, tasting was average and should at least only include whiskeys of the Distillery rather than from other distilleries owned by the same company...
The Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery Visitor Experience is housed in a 19th-century warehouse and offers tasting tours, a restaurant, and a bar. The brand's whiskey has gained global recognition since its establishment in 1829, with the initials D.E.W. representing Daniel E. Williams, the distillery's former general manager.
A great way to pass a few hours, this is a beautiful visitor centre wore a great retail shop with lots of merchandise, there is also a restaurant on site with a delicious selection from small bites to a proper lunch. There are a number of various tours available do a little research before you get there, staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome. I really enjoyed the your and got yo taste some really great Irish Whiskey at the end.

We had a fantastic time on the tour today with the very pleasant and knowledgeable guide Michele & Alan our driver. The Irish coffee at the beginning of the tour was a great way to relax into the experience. Michele was very engaging and had an instant rapport with our group. We loved everything about the tour but the drink in the snug hidden among the caskets was the highlight for us. We would highly recommend the tour. Sláinte!

My father and I really enjoyed the distillery tour.
It is a beautiful distillery, and the staff were very welcoming and delightful on the tour.
Our tour was led by Vivienne and Ray. They were very knowledgeable and Vivienne made a wonderful Irish Coffee. The walk through the still house gives a good view of the process with a great bready smell of the wart and brewing process. We then rode to the warehouses and were able to enter one and get that wonderful smell of maturing whiskey from the casks through evaporation, or "The Angeles Share". Then back to the production building for a tasting / blending of 3 expressions of Tullamore D.E.W.
I highly recommend a tour of the Tullamore D.E.W distillery and the nice store there on site.
Thank you for a wonderful experience Vivienne and Ray.

Tullamore DEW Masterclass was a brilliant 90 minute introduction to Whiskey and what sets Tullamore apart from the others. Our guide, Toni, delivered all the information in a way we could all relate. The tour started from raw ingredients all the way up to maturation and tasting. Begrudgingly I was designated driver so my partner had 2x 6 tasting paddles, all delicious. I'm keen to go back for more of the tour and for more whiskeys not available on the shelf.
Ali Lloyd — Google review
Probably one if the greatest tours I have ever tried. The Tullamore DEW distillery experience tour is clearly focused on delivering the best experience for the visitors rather than making money from it.
The tour started with a correctly prepared Irish coffee and then travelling around the destillery and grounds also having several samples of their whisky.
The tour guide was very knowledgable, nice, and helpful. Big praise to her.
The tour groups consist of a maximum of eight people, which is really great - having too large groups can sometimes lead to worse tours. Hence, eight people is great.
The tour took roughly two hours.

Amazing visit to the distillery! We took the 100 minute tour and it was worth every penny of 39€ a piece. I have been to many distilleries and taken the tour but this one was tops. From enjoying an Irish coffee with our incredible tour guide, Ita, and listening to her tell the history of Tullamore DEW and how they make their blended whiskey, to going into the distillery itself and then on to the warehouse full of whiskey barrels, it felt like you were part of the family listening to an old friend talk about the family business. Solomon was our driver for the tour outside and he took care of everything for us. If you are in Dublin, take the 90 minute ride out to Tullamore. The town is wonderful to walk, and you will not be disappointed with the experience at the distillery. Highly recommend!!

Very nice tour and tasting. Quite a good deal at €39. You get a lot in the package, and the tour guide we had, Antoinette, was fantastic and quite knowledgeable. The historical aspect was neat, even though the distillery itself is pretty new, the tour was well steeped in history.

Very interesting visit. We got lots of information from our lovely guide Daria who really masters the subject, makes a delicious Irish coffee at the beginning, speaks a very understandable English (for non-native visitors) and is dynamic and funny. The venue is beautiful and well organized to receive the tour.

If you like Jameson, do yourself a favor and try this distillery. From the states, I hadn't tried it before and fell in love. The tour was incredibly informative and the flights are perfect for sampling. We did the cheapest option and got three. You can choose the high end to get six. They also have a €150+ option that (I believe) shows their production. As a side note - Sundays are sometimes the busiest. Long live the city of Tullamore and DEW.

Definitely the best distillery tour I've ever taken. (Although also the most expensive at 35€.) Our cozy group of 7 allowed us all to hear our fantastic guide Antoinette as she brought alive the story of Irish whiskey, and Tullamore's place in it. A masterful tale weaver, she spiritedly informed, entertained and painted a picture as she prepared a traditional Irish coffee and led us through the beautiful facilities. The tour lasted nearly 2 hours, and connected the "alchemy" of distillation with the "sacred" of maturation. At the noteworthy gift shop, you can top off your experience, by blending your own unique Tullamore bottle with variations on grain, malt and pot-stilled whiskeys (for 75€.) You can also enjoy a complimentary espresso or tea. #TullyTours

Brian was our guide and the tour was the last of the day. Considering he was relatively new, he was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining throughout the tour. The facilities are superb and everything is explained well without becoming too technical which some may or may not like. Lots of tastings included so good value for money. Recommended!

This was a great tour! Finley, the tour guide and Will was the driver on account of the rain. Both friendly people. Finley was very knowledgeable on the history of Irish whiskeys and had a lovely sense of humor about him.
I do know there are right ways and wrongs ways to make a drink, but his Irish coffee was top-notch! My 1st coffee was in Shannon, and it was just straight hot whiskey.
As far as the warehouse and the tasting room. I really enjoyed it. I've been to a few distilleries in the States as far as whiskey, bourbon, and beer go. This distillery is one of the nicer places!
10/10 Finley was absolutely great, and thanks, Will, for driving!
Took a couple of souvenirs home for further tasting and comparative analysis

It’s only taken a month to share , but a highlight of my trip to Ireland was visiting the Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery. Michelle and Solomon were fantastic guides and I learned a lot.
The nerd in me loved the history, the science, and the lessons. The drinker in me loved the tastes, the smells, and the varieties to sample. Their gift shop loved my wallet.
I want to stress that all rules were followed and a certain photo was taken from the outside, not in.
Thank you Tully!

By far this is the best distillery tour we've ever been on. From the minute you walk in, you're welcomed with an Irish coffee that they make right in front of you while you're sitting in comfy dining chairs. You then move to the more comfortable couches, with your Irish coffee, where they go through the process of distilling before you start the walking tour through the whiskey barrel storage warehouse then ending at a bar with some tastings and more educational info about the whiskey. They then walk you to the shop where you can purchase whiskey, merchandise and even make your own blend. It was a super fun experience and I recommend it to anyone going to Ireland. It is well worth the $40. Our guides Daria and Richie were fantastic. Daria was super knowledgeable about the distilling process and the whiskey itself and Richie made the delicious Irish coffee. Highly recommend! Purchase your tickets in advance as the group size is small, which makes more intimate and enjoyable.

One of the best distillery tours I’ve been on. Get a walkthrough of the whole process and see all of the equipment actually in use (including seeing the warehouse full of aging barrels!). Had tour guides Richie and Ray and we learned a great deal from them; I feel like I can talk intelligently about whisky now and actually understand what all the words mean. I can’t recommend enough, excellent value.

Took the train from Dublin to tullamore. Taxi from the station to the distillery. Was a little disappointed to find all the tour slots booked for the day…but there’s a shorter tasting tour which we managed to get into. Costs $20 euro each takes around 30 mins and you get to sample 3 of their whiskies. Our guide was Richie and he was fantastic. Very informative and friendly. In fact the all the staff were great. Even offered us complimentary tea n coffee whilst we waited!
It’s also possible to buy some extra tasting samples too. The 18 year old single malt and the Honey are well worth the extra euros!
Highly recommended.

Even though this is a fairly new facility, the tour was very thorough in a relaxing atmosphere. Let's just say the first part of the tour was about the education of whiskey making while lounging on couches with a custom made authentic Irish coffee. This was our favorite distillery tour in Ireland

What an experience, learned quite a bit! The experience and sights of such an establishment was breathtaking to say the least. Thank you for a once in a lifetime experience.
Belvedere House Gardens & Park is a stunning estate that features a Palladian-style villa from the 1700s and Victorian gardens with charming follies. The highlight of the park is Belvedere House, an enormous 18th-century hunting lodge designed by Richard Cassels, which overlooks Lough Ennell and boasts exquisite rococo plasterwork in its upper rooms.
We had a fab afternoon visiting Belvedere House and Gardens. The place was absolutely beautiful and so well maintained. The fairy garden was the best we have ever visited. Our kids were in their element! The only downside was we didn't have enough time..we happily could have spent the whole day. We will definitely be back.

Well worth a visit. You can book your ticket online, choosing the time of arrival. There is plenty of parking. The folly itself is very impressive, with the visitor centre and cafe built into the folly. The story behind its construction is the most interesting part, one angry brother blocking a view towards another angry brother's house (you can't choose your family!!) There is plenty to do once you're inside, tho note the house itself is closed for renovations. There are a series of walks of varying lengths. For smaller kids there is a decent playground, a fairy garden and a woodland swing (literally one swing down by the lake). The walk along by the lake is worth doing, some lovely views and it eventually loops back around to the walled garden, fairy garden and restaurant. The walled garden was possibly a bit run down, but note we visited in winter. A lot of the signs were fallen and broken etc. We finished up with a bite to eat in the cafe. Food was good.

We had a fantastic time shooting with a beautiful couple in the midst of a serene forest and sparkling lake on a crisp, cold day just a few days before Christmas. The scenery was breathtaking and the couple's love for each other shone through in every moment. It was such a joy to be able to capture these special memories for them to cherish forever. It truly felt like a winter wonderland and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting for this photoshoot.

It's a beautiful place to visit for nature lovers... Loads of walking to do and can take up to 2 to 3 hours to fully explore the place. 23 euros for a family of 4 which I felt is worth. The horticulture area mainly pertaining to the plants were well kept but the water bodies require a little more attention. I was amazed at the collection of beautiful flowers they had in. The fairy garden was cute but was small. We were there by 0430pm, but there were unusually tonnes of tiny flies which I was afraid would hit our eyes or nose. Absolutely loved the place, however was disappointed that the Belvedere house and cafeteria closes by 5pm even when the whole premises stays open until 8pm for the season.

Nice place for a walk, picnic or family time. Adequate parking spots. There is a cafe inside, washrooms and children's play area inside the visitor centre. We went for family picnic with friends at the start of Feb so the garden wasn't blooming.

The Cavan County Museum is a hidden gem, located in Ballyjamesduff. It showcases the history of the region, including a replica of a trench from World War I. The museum also features a peaceful reflection garden and informative exhibits that provide insight into the hardships endured by service personnel during the conflict. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, making it an enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Ah just the fact it's in Ballyjamesduff is worth a visit alone. We loved the World War trench experience is a must and the reflection garden so peaceful. A lovely addition to outside. So much to read about and learn about. Somewhere to go when you are discovering Cavan.

Waze took me into someone's house, better look out for signboards. Worth dragging the kids on the 1 hour trip from Dublin. Small but well organised museum. Covers history of English occupation, Cromwell's invasion and story of Lough Oughter Castle. Each room in the museum has a specific theme, like life in the convent, artefacts and a lot on the was of independence. A lot packed in a small place. The main attraction of this museum is the replica of ww1 trench. The trench is worth the visit to the museum. We covered the museum in about 90 mins but definitely need more time to read everything.

Amazing museum in Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan. There's something in the museum and outside grounds to keep eveyone interested. There are great displays on Gaelic football, Camogie, ancient Irish artefacts, life in a World War 1 trench, Irish Independence and rural Cavan life. The exhibitions are based on 3 floors and outside in the grounds at the back. Wheelchair users were visiting the same day that I was there and were able to use the lift to access each floor. You'll need to allow at least an hour to get around the exhibitions. The museum has a lovely cafe serving coffee and snacks, a good shop, toilet facilities and free parking. The staff are very welcoming and pleasant, I left my money in the cafe and one of the staff found me to return it.

My second visit to the Cavan County Museum, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first visit. The WWI Trench Warfare installation was open this time, though only about half, it looked like. It was still interesting and informative about what the soldiers would have experienced in the trenches. The indoor museum is amazingly thorough and two visits aren’t enough to take it all in. This visit the top floor has a new exhibit about the Irish War of Independence, and there is so much history, pain and eventual triumph, though many years before peace.
Here are just a couple of photos of the archeological exhibits that are so fascinating.

Loughcrew Cairns, located in North Meath, Ireland, is a collection of Neolithic burial chambers dating back to around 3300 BCE. While not as famous as Newgrange, these ancient passage graves are a must-see for anyone interested in Ireland's ancient history. The site features clusters of megalithic cairns on the Slieve na Caillaigh hills, with public access to Carnbane East where Cairn T is the main attraction.
The history and view are well worth the long long walk up hill to this amazing place

I realize how out of shape I'm in when you take this walk up the steep hill to experience this awesome place. It was worth the walk up. The burial mounts was impressive. I could understand why this spot was used for putting your love ones ashes to rest here. The surrounding views of Ireland and the mountains beyond, even a lake, was seen from this location. All this happened many, many centuries ago. It's worth seeing if you have some extra time on your hands!

The loughcrew cairns are an amazing site. Entry between working hours will get you a private tour for free. It is an incredibly steep hill in places, so make sure you wear the right footwear and rain jackets.

A long climb, but well worth every step! It's just a breathtaking view and a very spiritual experience. I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful sight!

Definite must see to experience Ireland's ancient east . Megalithic cairns on hills around the area. Stunning views taking in many counties from the top . Glamping/camp site nearby. The hill leading to the main site is very steep so something to consider if you are taking small children or the elderly. Recon first.

A bit hard to find but do not miss this site. The walk up to the top takes at least 20minutes. Give yourself at least 90 minutes to see it all. Take a rest halfway up, it is not too strenuous. We are 70 and made it. We'll worth the effort. The view on a clear day is incredible.... one can see for 50 miles easily.
I think this is better than Tara. Don't pass this one up. You will thank me, I promise. Oh, there is good parking and it is all free. Bring a camera.

A stunning location. Knew so little about it, one of Ireland's best kept secrets.
It is a healthy uphill walk to reach it.

My husband, aunts, and I went to Loughcrew on our holiday to Ireland. I was glad I packed some tennis shoes (I’m normally in flip flops) for the hike up to the top. It was somewhat physically challenging since it seemed like we were going straight up, but the view was worth it. We poked around a bit until it was time for the tour, and we really enjoyed learning from the guide. Would definitely do it again.
Chastidyi Parrott — Google review
It's a somewhat steep walk up to Loughcrew Cairns in County Meath, but there's a 360 degree view from the site. The cairns are 5,000-year-old Neolithic passage tombs and are considered one of the "big four" of Irish megalithic sites, together with Carrowkeel, Carrowmore, and Brú na Bóinne. According to legend the cairns were created when a giant witch, striding across the land, dropped her cargo of large stones from her apron.
The complex is spread across three hilltops, Carnbane East, Carnbane West, and Patrickstown. Cairn T (Carnbane East) is the best preserved and most accessible tombs at Loughcrew and is the central tomb of the whole complex. It faces the rising sun at the spring (March) and autumnal (September) equinoxes, which shines through the passage to illuminate the back wall of the chamber.

The most beautiful peaceful and powerful place in Ireland. I hope the government bodies take better care of this place before its lost forever .

Amazing historic site. A series of burial chambers with a central cairn (sadly closed to the public at the moment) with spectacular views and some lovely examples of prehistoric stone carving. There were two ver knowledgeable guides up there to talk to as well. Great visit

Very nice place. A lot of greenery around. We were told thereare free tours at the top but when the tour was supposed to start no tourguide showed up. Also, you can't climb on the top of the biggest cairn since it's unstable.

Moderate hike up to gorgeous views. These passage tombs are thousands of years old and there is a bit of information at the site. However we recommend a guided tour to get the most out of it. Very much worth it!

Awesome megalithic site. It's a bit of a trek up the hill but great views of the countryside when you get there.
James Conn — Google review
Cold and extremely windy the day we went. Be prepared to hike. A little hard, but worth the hike once you reach the top. Great tour and experience to see the burial mounds and to listen to the history behind it.
Sweeping views are offered from these ruins of a historical castle in a serene country setting.
Great hidden gem with a rich history. Free parking. Dog friendly. Excellent place to take photos of loved ones. Perfect picnic spot.

This is a little hidden gem. We loved walking around and getting a feel for what it would have looked like when it was in use. The views from the top are spectacular. I highly recommend taking your camera with you.
There is no fee to enter. It is steep and as expected rocky in places. We managed in normal trainers so no need for special equipment or shoes though.

This was a perfect stop! You can really take in the scale see these ruins! It sits atop a hill that has panoramic views of the world below. I could have spent hours climbing around the rocks! This is a free stop!

Nice ruins integrated into the landscape. It's usually very windy at the top. It is worth going to see the sunset because sometimes it can surprise you with its beauty. the remains of the castle are raw and have been slowly decaying for 300 years. A nice place, luckily not yet commercialized

Super casual walk. Astonishing views. A must see. Worth visiting to take the stunning views and to take a moment to appreciate the rich history here.

Amazingly beautiful view of the area of this historic castle. A great place to bring kids. Be a little mindful of where you go, you could fall over the side if you are goofing around. There are no guides here.

From the top of the rock, you'll be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside. It's a perfect spot for capturing unforgettable photos or simply soaking up the fresh air and scenic beauty.
The climb to the top is manageable for most ages, and there's plenty of space for kids to explore the ruins while learning about the castle's past. While it's a gravel path to the top, you'll only be able to take a stroller to a certain point; so do keep that in mind if you're bringing one!

Lovely spot for some exploring and visiting a piece of history. Also has a small church across and graveyard with some very old headstones. Be warned the walk up is very steep and some areas do not have railings - not wheelchair accessible due to steps at the entrance.

It's a peaceful place with excellent views. It was not very crowded which makes it even more peaceful.
The views from the top were breathing. You can see the whole county from above.
The entrance is free.. If you are planning on visiting in Taxi, you might face issues on the return journey as most of the drivers might reject the trip due to the steep road that leads to the place.
It's also a single road so your driving skills might be tested :)
Overall a good place to visit if you are in Portlaoise.

Trim Castle, located in Ireland, is a well-preserved medieval fortress and the largest Anglo-Norman fortification in the country. Originally founded by Hugh de Lacy in 1173, it was destroyed by Ruaidri Ua Conchobair within a year but was later rebuilt around 1200 with little modification since then. The castle served as a shooting location for the movie 'Braveheart' and has interpretation panels on its grounds.
The castle is beautiful and free to walk around the ruins. There are guided tours as well to the inside of the castle. There are no rooms inside but the guide tells you interesting historical facts about life in the castle, famous residents in the town and about battles, etc. The tour goes up to the bastion where you can enjoy the sight. It is interesting and funny. Trim itself is a lovely little town with friendly people and nice cafés and restaurants.

Unfortunately, we missed the chance to do a tour of the keep as the next was scheduled several hours after we arrived at the site. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the grounds and there are several informative plaques near each structure detailing the early medieval history. The sunlight being diffused by cloud over made the fall colors and green grass more vibrant than ever! Gorgeous views!

On Saturday, we toured a splendid Castle that has been meticulously preserved without any embellishments. The castle is set amidst delightful surroundings, offering pleasant strolls around its premises and along the picturesque river Boyne. Entry to the grounds is free, while a €5 fee provides access to a 45-minute guided tour of the castle's interior. We opted for the guided tour, which proved highly informative and comes highly recommended. Our guide, Margaret, possessed extensive knowledge and skillfully painted a vivid picture of life in and around the castle. Any notions of romantic Anglo-Norman knights, enchanting maidens, and idyllic peasants were quickly dispelled. Margaret made sure to engage both children and adults in the group. However, it's worth noting that the interior of the castle can be challenging for those with limited mobility due to numerous winding staircases intentionally designed to restrict access. The castle grounds are dotted with informative notice boards providing insights into the castle complex and surrounding structures. This visit is definitely worthwhile, especially for history enthusiasts, but be sure to allocate ample time for your exploration.

A significant and massive piece of Irish History well worth the visit. A guided tour with the very knowledgeable and witty guide Brenda were very well spent 5 euro. Trim itself is a very charming place and its several church ruins are also worth the walk all the way to the eastern side of the town.

Great piece of history, super windy, beautiful early medieval ruins, more then one to see. Don't bring strollers and make sure your children are ready to go up many narrow stairs. Guide was excellent and some beautiful drawn cards and poster to sell of the Castle's early glory. Wonderful city with plenty to do and lots of commerce.

My favorite castle in Ireland!! Our first stop and a fantastic place to visit. Easy access and parking, lots of little cafes nearby, and beautiful grounds. Its well maintained and has amazing employees working here! Its free to see the grounds but i recommend taking the tour inside, especially on a windy day.
Awesome memories here, i cant wait to return one day. Thank you!!

At one time in history Trim Castle was the largest fortification in Ireland. Buy tickets to see the Keep with a guided tour, we missed out as they were sold out for the 4:45 tour. The grounds are free to visit and there are informational signs. Easy parking nearby and within walking distance of shops.

We arrived right at 10 o'clock, but had to wait for the 10:45 tour, as a private group had the first slot. The tour was informative and the guide was funny. Don't forget to buy your Heritage Pass if this is your first stop! I forgot and the lady was kind enough to refund my tickets and then do the pass.

Simply incredible. By far the largest castle in Ireland, with very well preserved ruins of massive walls and main tower. The location by the river ford is also quite impressive - and you get a perfect view at the Medieval monastery ruins as well.
Admission at the grounds is free, you only pay 5 EUR for a guided tour around the tower.

This was an amazing experience! We went on a group tour of Trim Castle, and learned so much about it's history. It was fun walking up ancient stone staircases to the top of the castle and looking out over the countryside. You can see everything from up there, the river, both moats, and part of the city. We went on a Wednesday in March, and it wasn't busy at all. We walked up to the gate and got tickets for the next available tour.

Very interesting place to visit! The access to the castle is very easy. You can have a walk around the premises outside. You need a ticket if only you want to get into the castle building. Next to the castle there is a parking. Don’t miss to have a walk around the village and have a nice meal at the local restaurants.

Well worth a visit, you can only visit the tower with a tour guide so be sure to buy a ticket at the gate (5€/ adult) it’s definitely worth it. The tour guide (Susan) was super knowledgeable, friendly and pretty funny as well. Visitor Safety and comfort was emphasised which made for a very inclusive tour. Visiting the grounds is free. You’d need about 1 hour for the guided tour and -/+ 20 minutes for the grounds. Parking is limited but you can park for free in the street on Sundays or max 2 hours on Saturday during the day.

If you are looking for a place to visit and learn a little more about our history ,then Trim castle is a fantastic way to do it .You can walk the grounds for free or take the castle tour (€5 for adults under 13s are free !!! ).Fantastic value and the guide we had kept everyone informed but more so entertained .
I will say though ,the climb up and down the spiral stairs was a bit nerve wracking but worth it for the view !!!
I do think there should be a tip jar for the guides though , fantastic knowledge and funny also .Check the times for the tour so you don’t time it wrong and end up waiting … it’s only half an hour but it’s Ireland …. You don’t want to to be standing in the rain ….

One of the best places to know more about the history of Ireland and Anglo Norman era. Guided tour available at the castle, which was absolutely brilliant as she talked each and everything about the history of the castle. Beautiful and historical castle which is well worth a visit. The castle is in the town. The grounds are free to visit but if you wish to in the tower, there is a regular tour which is only 5 Euro.

The castle has an area of 30,000 m², it opened in 1174. Hugh de Lacy and his son Walter built the castle over a period of 30 years. The central fortification is a three-storey keep that's 20-sided and cruciform in shape. The keep was protected by a ditch, curtain wall, and water-filled moat.
Access for those with disabilities is restricted due to the narrow, steep staircases throughout the castle.
There is no parking on site, but there's on-street parking in the nearby town of Trim.

Stallion-breeding stud farm, plus formal Eastern- and rugged Irish-style gardens, plus horse museum.
If you love horses, and beautiful gardens, then this is the place for you. Stunning setting, beautifully presented, and just so much to see. A picture around every corner you turn. If you have a thing for horses, you will love this even more, as there are horses, horses, and more horses everywhere. It is very well priced, the food is a bit pricey, but absolutely fantastic. All In all, a highly recommended experience.

Amazing experience! Japanese gardens are beautiful. We chose to go with guided tour of grounds and it was a great experience. Tour guide was amazing and friendly. Race course experience was new and exciting activity for me ,especially the actual race at the end. Overall a great day out. The only downside if any is how restaurant is organised. There is a huge hold up at the till . Other than that, its a place everyone should visit.

A fabulous layout, the gardens are intricate and interesting. There are lots of fun surprises in the layout of the Japanese gardens too, we had small children with us and they were safe and able for all the steps and climbs. I would say some of it isn’t suitable for prams or wheelchairs but a lot of the grounds are. The plant diversity was wonderful. The food in the cafe on the grounds is more dinner food, it is quite expensive but the portions are big and the food is well worth it. The staff are polite and the cafe and grounds are very clean.

We were lucky enough to fit this in before our trip to the airport and I wish we'd had 2 or 3 more hours. It is an incredible facility. The animals are clearly well looked after. We missed the gardens because I lingered too long in the interactive experience and visiting the horses :)
There were lots of babies and moms as they haven't been weaned yet this time of year. The weather was gorgeous which made for an even better experience.

What a beautiful place ! What can I say ?! Yesterday all our family had our annual Santa Visit and chose Clonfert due to its great prices and word of mouth from other families that have been . We were not disappointed ! The farm is a great day out , there is no limit in time spent there unlike other Santa visits and even if the weather isn’t great they have a beautiful cafe selling hot food , snacks , drinks . Their Christmas cupcakes are delicious and look amazing , a family can even get a large pizza for €10. Kids meals also available . They have outdoor heaters throughout the farm which really add to the cozy atmosphere , and a lovely shop which sells soft toys , candles , cards , Christmas decorations and gifts. .
The kids especially LOVED making their reindeer food with the elves while having a hot chocolate , Santa looked like he just flew in from the North Pole , they even have a reindeer at the farm ! What was great also is the kids get to choose their Santa gift unlike other Santa visits , they also pick this out at the elves workshop , another great festive activities for the kids. I couldn’t get me nephew off the bouncy castle and all the kids loved the carousel which is included in your elli key . Lastly all staff could not be more friendly , the elves are great with the kids. Making the reindeer and Santa visit is not rushed at all , and the kids can spend ages at the playground and costing all the animals . We will definitely be visiting again throughout the year , especially for Easter and Halloween , and will be having my nieces party there in the Summer when the BBQ stations are open. .Well done to all the hard working staff, Christmas can be very stressful also when staff are so busy , none of this shows however , they deserve a great review for all their hard work . Thank you all to clonfert for making our family outing one of the best days out we’ve had this year !

A nice place to spend time for families, especially one with kids. There are a lot of facilities for kids including a mini zip line. However for adults only group not much, except the cafe is decent.
This is more of a zoo with games for kids, than a farm. Though I understand zoo like facilities are required for kids to see animals, the concern is cramped spaces are very tough on animals. It hurts!
ARUN Thundyill Saseendran — Google review
A good place to spend a few hours if you are with small kids. It is like a very small zoo with playgrounds, a bouncy castle, go-karts etc. I wish that it was planned differently - so that you could do a loop walk and end up in the area with all activities. Otherwise, the first thing that kids see is a bouncy castle

Awesome place to take the family out. Kids will love it! Animals are all cute and taken good care of. Lots of things to do such as carting, zip line, football pitches, and mini golf as well as a restaurant and small gift shop. Also you can arrange a birthday party here - it seemed like lots of fun.

Great place for kids, lots of fun with domesticated birds and animals. They have a soccer field, zip line, and mini golf along with a bouncy play area.
The restaurant is very good with limit options, but good food.

They are very well organised. They have time slots, so it's not too crowded. Two parking areas. We really enjoyed our stay. Two and half hours just flew by.

Great fun for all ages. Our 3 year old grandson loved it. Friendly staff and really nice food which was good value. Highly recommend.
Brú na Bóinne, located in the Boyne Valley of Ireland, is a well-known prehistoric site featuring 3 neolithic passage tombs and 90 additional monuments. The burial mounds, including Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, are around 5,000 years old and have been fully excavated for visitors to explore. Newgrange stands out with its carved granite boulders and white quartz face.
Great tour. The docents were knowledgeable and very engaging and know the history well. Knowth was an exceptional experience. Visitor Centre really well done, efficient, clean and memorable. Tour very good value for money to see such extraordinarily special place.

Enjoy my visit to this location. Had my 10000 steps done early every morning. Two most beautiful walks on the grounds. This was a gift given to my wife and I by our family. It is expensive but well worth it for a very special occasion. All the staff were brilliant and friendly.

Amazing experience where you can see and touch stone markings made by someone over 5000 years ago. The tour guides are very nice. You get an explanation and a tour inside the tomb (you can't take pictures inside) and then you can explore the outside on your own.

Fantastic archeological site! This is an UNESCO heritage site and the guides were awesome. The inside of Newgrange was amazing and the only other place, I've been, like it were the Great Pyramids of Giza. A major difference here is its much older than the pyramids dating back to the neolithic era. Adults and children all learned a bit and enjoyed. The carvings are impressive and it was impressive how old they are.

Had an amazing and very informative visit last week, have been intending on going for years. Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Sinead and Jackie for helping us out (I'd booked for this Weds instead of last Weds, but they managed to sort out our tour....thankful after driving for over two hours to get there!)

Part of a bigger tour amazing. You get to go inside a 5 thousand year old megalith. Need to book 8 weeks in advance. Well worth every pence(cent). The accompanying tour guides were both engaging and knowledgeable. 3 hour tour two sites class.

Lovely to be able to walk in and see the craftsmanship on the interior. I’m sure it’s spectacular to see on the winter solstice. But they do a mock up of that for you with the lights off and then the sun rising. They give you a lot of history so there’s really no time to look around on the outside. The buses are very timely.

Highly recommend scheduling your trip in advance, but so worth it. We started at Knowth, and our guide was knowledgeable, funny and overall excellent. I believe his name was Kiernan (he just found out he is from royalty). It is incredibly scenic and fascinating. There looks to be a lunar calendar etched in to the stone, from 5000+ years ago. Newgrange is incredible. Will say- if you are claustrophobic, or are on the bigger side (i am 6’3, 250) be prepared to be scraping along the walls as you go to the chamber. They simulate what happens on the winter solstice. It is awe inspiring. Throw in the river Boyne and the story of Finn McCool…and all the sheep- one of the best days ever, not just of the trip.

Great example of a mostly complete neolithic site dating from at least 3500 BC. Our tour guide at the site, Aegnus, was amazing. You could really tell he genuinely loved the material and was excited to present it.
Additionally, the visitors center was excellent. The material presented in the exhibition was very much a information gathering before the trip to the site. The way they displayed the info was just right - not too technical nor too simple.
Pat Zalesky — Google review
Life-changing site to visit. I can't recommend the tour enough, very knowledgeable and approachable staff. The feeling at these sites was special. Not far from the busyness of Dublin, this was a paradise full of history, culture, and magic.
Carolyn Klassen — Google review
Very interesting historical tour of more than 7000 years in the past. Good price (€10 per adult) for the "sister" version of the larger Newgrange site. The exhibition was fun as it immerses you into the lifestyle and the foot path of the neolithic population. The guided tour lasted for 30 minutes with some archeological descriptions together with theoretical stories opening to your own interpretations. You can then walk the site at your own pace for about 15 minutes and watch a video.

A great experience even having caught the tail of hurricane Agnes. Not even 80 kph wind gusts and stinging rain stopped our guides who forged ahead anyway. One thing’s for sure—the Irish can weather a storm! The history, culture and the tombs themselves are amazing. Our guide, Lisa, was particularly good at sparking our imaginations and closing the time gap between us and our ancient ancestors. The center was very nice and a welcome respite from the weather. The best ham and cheese sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. Of course, Irish butter instead of mayonnaise! The Boyne Valley and River—scenic delights. Even caught a rainbow. Definitely, a must see experience.

Can I only give it 5 stars? Deserves more! This was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. If you're interested in this sort of thing then you've probably seen plenty of photos and documentaries about New Grange.

Amazing place, worth to visit. You are traveling from tourist center to Knoth and Newgrange by bus. In both places guides were great. Better reserve tickets earlier, I was alone and lucky that they had 1 place for me in the bus. Tours for every hour were fully booked that day and it was not even weekend.

We went with a home-school group to visit this site. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. She lives in the area and has been doing the job for a long time. She told us of new information about the other cairns in the region as well. Overall, this trip is worth it just to see what they have uncovered. This tour is highly recommended!

Great experience, especially being able to go inside the monument. The guides are great and you can tell that they are very passionate about it. It's amazing how these structures are still there after 5000 years.
Book at least a month in advance. Tickets sell very fast. You go there from the visitor centre and a bus takes you there at the time you booked.
Newgrange is a prehistoric monument featuring a mound and chambers, as well as an interpretive visitor center. Its round white stone walls stretch 80 meters in diameter and stand 13 meters high with a grass dome on top, giving it an eerie futuristic appearance. Built around 3200 BC, this impressive passage tomb predates the pyramids of Egypt by six centuries and was likely designed to act as a calendar based on its precise alignment with the sun during the winter solstice.
We had a lovely tour around Newgrange but we're unable to go into the Monuments due to Covid which was a pity, but still amazing to be able to see the dedication if the craftsmen who not only built them, but also restored it.
It was a lively introduction by our guide to the Spirals and also the stories behind how the monuments came about.
We were there on a beautiful day and had the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and wonderful scenery.
Recommended visit for families especially if the Monuments are all open for a visit.

We went to New Grange on a Saturday from Dublin for a day trip as it’s only around 1.5 hours away. The tickets to see this place was free although you have to book them online and there are limited tours. We opted for an afternoon tour. I think there are a few tours every few hours. Once you reach Newgrange, they arrange another vehicle to take you the actual monument. Now this place is ancient and dating almost around 4000years ago. There was a person/tour guide who was explaining the history of New Grange. You can only see the Winter solstice on a lottery basis which is pretty cool. Once the tour ended we went to the museum. There is also free parking and a cafe at the premises. Overall a fantastic day trip and a must visit place!

Amazing place. We missed to book tickets to get inside tomb so had to take the shuttle tour and museum. With the shuttle we can get an outside view of the tomb. Our tour guide Siobhan was lovely explained the history behind it and how it might have made use in the past. It also happens to be one of the UNESCO world heritage site. Pleasant sceneries and they had nice museum where they have replica of the portion of the tomb. Must visit place ;) N.B OPW priced the tickets reasonably but the cafeteria inside the new grange is really expensive.

A must visit when in Ireland.
To enter a tomb circa 3200BC and to be able to take the guided tour where you enter the passage tomb and experience what the winter solstice lighting inside would be like was emotional.
The drive and dedication to make such a place over 5000 years ago. Wonderful experience.

Newgrange. I can't believe this amazing neolithic monument built circa 3200 bc. At least 1000years before The Great Pyramid at Giza. Is only one hours drive from Dublin, and I haven't been to visit sooner. This burial chamber has so much in common with the pyramids and the burial of "kings"is mind blowing. Anyone with an interest in ancient history will have to see these monuments.
It is a fabulous day's excursion. To be able to walk inside this sacred place. Also demonstration of what occurs on the winter solstice when the sun enters the chamber.
Wish I could have scored it 6 stars.

A truly wonderful experience. The guided tour was very informative, and the experience of being inside this 5000-year-old neolithic monument was breathtaking. You somehow feel that you become a part of a very special place in human civilisation. The exhibition is very creatively designed and answers all the questions one may have about this place, and the cafeteria and an observation deck are good add-ons. The staff at the reception was very nice and somehow arranged for us a tour though we didn't book online and almost exited the place to go back home. They surely saved the day for us, and just to make it extra special, they gave it as a compliment. Completely blown away by their kind gesture 🙏. Will surely come back again, and with pre-book tickets this time 😀

I have been wanting to see New Newgrange for years! I finally made it, and it was everything, and then some. A must-see! A little secret, if you walk down to the public toilets, there's a coble stone wall you can stand on and get a full panoramic shot. Tour guides fail to tell you this.

Emerald Park in Ashbourne is the largest amusement park in Ireland, offering a wide range of attractions for visitors of all ages. From thrilling roller coasters to a zoo with interactive petting areas, there's something for everyone. The park also features historical sites such as Kells and Mellifont Abbey, as well as the Battle of the Boyne Site.
The park ist perfect for families and compared to others not crowded. Prices are fairly low and the combination between fun rides and zoo is ideal. Especially the bird show with eagles, hawks and owls was great fun. We had an awesome day with 2 kids and will definitely come back. 6 stars if this would be possible 👍

Overall experience was nice, the amusement rides are exciting. It takes actually 2-3 whole days to explore everything that's in the park. Due to long waiting queues for each and every rides, a lot of time is wasted, hence you end-up skipping rides and shows , and not making use of the amount you pay for complete access. Kids play area and kids rides and sensory friendly play space are all great for the age groups.. It would be good if you make sure your toddler-school age kid is meeting the minimum height requirement before booking all access ticket for them. Because, height restrictions apply on the most exciting rides in the park, kids will be very disappointed, otherwise.
I don't know whether there is any seat limit for each day, but for sure , long waiting queues inside for each ride, didn't look like there is any calculation on head for booking..., which was absolutely exhausting..
They have animals and birds to watch too. But, not so many exciting ones.
There are adequate food courts, restrooms, nursing areas for mom's , wheelchair access toilets, waiting areas, etc.

Immaculate. Well organised and managed. Shame you can’t get a non ride pass though. Ended up spending €33 online to walk around it with the kids. Plenty of food pit stops, seats and toilet areas along the way. Great selection of amusements and rides for the very young to the adventurous. Had a petting zoo and we were able to get close to the lemurs which was a first anywhere! Brilliant. Huge parking area which is also well managed. Last trip here when it has been run by Tayto 😞 Highly recommend the park. Tickets are cheaper online.

My one-day trip to Emerald Park in Dublin was an absolute blast! From thrilling rides to mouthwatering food, it was an unforgettable experience.
The highlight of Emerald Park was undoubtedly the rides. The park had a great variety of attractions suitable for all ages and preferences. Whether it was the adrenaline-pumping roller coasters or the classic Ferris wheel, there was something for everyone. The rides were well-maintained, and safety measures were strictly followed, ensuring a fun and secure experience.
Now let's talk about the food, starting with the twisted chips. They were a true delight! Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned, the twisted chips were a delicious treat that satisfied my snack cravings. They were a unique twist on traditional fries and definitely worth trying.
As for the ice cream, it was the perfect way to cool down on a sunny day. Emerald Park offered a wide range of flavors, from classic options like chocolate and strawberry to more adventurous ones like salted caramel or cookie dough. The ice cream was creamy, rich, and bursting with flavor. It was evident that they used high-quality ingredients to create their delectable treats.
Overall, my experience at Emerald Park was fantastic. The thrilling rides provided hours of entertainment, and the twisted chips and ice cream added a delicious touch to the day. If you're looking for a fun-filled day with exciting attractions and mouthwatering food, Emerald Park in Dublin is definitely the place to go!

The map of the park is so confusing, there are no numbers for the rides and overall the park organization could be much improved. The best thing was the Birds show, probably the most fun and interesting one we have ever saw!
Compared to other parks, we also appreciated the possibility for the kids to drive small cars in a “driving lesson” attraction and the fully equipped rock climbing attraction

Good day out with children. Have done the bird show a few times now and it's always great. The biggest coaster is very fun and there is lots to do for smaller kids with the zoo, park and other smaller rides. Some negatives were the wait times for some of the kiddie coasters is very long for the fun you get out of it, the flight school line was pretty dirty and the drink refill machines didn't have a massive selection.

My family and I had a great day. The customer service is fantastic. Even if there is a storm the time we went and some of the rides are not available, we still had a great time. Always a great day out when the sun shines. Park is clean, plenty to do for 4-6 hours. Queue times can vary depending on the day visiting, but the most we queued was 15 minutes (wooden rollercoaster). Animal zone is always a great place to walk around, and grab a twisty potato crisp.

The informative shows and interactive exhibits provided a great learning opportunity for visitors of all ages. The picturesque landscapes and well-maintained grounds added to the overall ambiance. Food options were plenty, offering a variety of choices to suit different tastes. The staff's friendly demeanor and efficient organization enhanced the enjoyment of the visit. So I did have a detailed 2 star review of Tayto Park here based on my experience from 2022 and 2021. I commented on how rough Cu Chulainn is, how the park badly needed the new rides, how there was no music in most areas of the park, how Viking Voyage was very run down, how some staff were just uninterested and looked untrained. I was back today at Emerald Park with the European Coaster Club to experience Tir na nOg and all it has to offer and I was so impressed. OK, so Cu Chulainn is rougher than ever and I see the (in my opinion) awful Power Surge is still there but there are so many improvements to be thrilled about. Tir na nOg is stunning, the Vekomas are the perfect coasters for the park, ops were good even considering all the delays with TV crews and interviews etc, there was themed music playing at lots of locations, there is some great new merchandise (though some ladies fitted t-shirts would be a nice addition) and staff were polite, friendly and efficient. I do think there is a lot of empty space around Endeavour so hopefully the park has plans to fill this up a little while overhauling those flat rides and retracking Cu Chulainn. All in good time, I'm sure. Emerald Park is on the up which is so exciting to see. It is now firmly on the world stage for coaster enthusiasts.

Good amusement park for the island of ireland. Ticket price is high considering the waiting time. The best ride is clearly the wooden roller coaster, where as the other ones are not as exciting really. Beautiful park! We started off by going to the visitor center where parking was plentiful. We went into the garden by the parking lot that had many interesting fruits, vegetables, and flowers. We also visited the fun playground next to it that has great equipment for all ages. We then headed to the café where we had delicious tea, scones, and a raspberry coconut pastry, all for a reasonable price. After that we visited the visitor center and got free castle tour tickets. The castle tour was very interesting and informative and we got to visit the ground, first, and second floors of the castle. Finally, we drove to the fort and walked around. I loved the park and felt it was very well designed as there is a clear straight road the cars could take making it easier to go to each part of the park. There is also a public bus that goes through the park in case you don't have a car.
You can also easily play games in the park grounds.

Stunning Parkland in the middle of Dublin City. From wide ranging trail runs, cycle paths, open expanses of greenery as well as roaming deer and the wonderful Dublin zoo, this has to be one of the best parks in Europe.

A beautiful way to spend a few hours. There is so much to see and it is a gorgeous park! It was great for an afternoon stroll on our first day in Dublin. So much greenery and history all in one.

Best place for a day out with kids, they gonna love it. Prepare to walk a lot. Staff here is very friendly, you can bring your own food l, there is a lot of people paces to eat as well. Toilets are very clean and tidy. Giraffe and zebras are a great attraction. Tiger is very active and worth watching. Lions were very lazy. If the climate is good, your kids gonna love it. There are lots of play areas for kids. You will easily loose your path, I would suggest to but that guide they offer. It’s 3 euros and the quality is really good.

Great and huge big area to share with family and friends, you can walk, run, cycling, and play with plenty of space. There are coffee places and the zoo access as well. The most beautiful part is to meet friendly and cute deers around the park.

What a great park ! You should definitely visit. If you are lucky, you can see these amazing deer. You can also get lost in the greens and get fresh air. It's a great place to get away from the crowd of the city and breathe. It can be much better if equipped with social opportunities.

Great park to visit when in Dublin if you’re looking to get away from the busy streets for a bit of fresh air. At the park you can easily find the deers by the trees in the middle of the park, they are friendly and love to be fed. Well recommended.

Incredible and huge Phoenix Park, located in Ireland.
We were here last year in the summer. This is a must visit place.
But I warn you right away, you need to walk a lot here). You can also rent bicycles at the gate.
As soon as you enter the park, you see many different trees, shrubs and flowers. Somewhere in the middle of the park there are already large green meadows where you can relax and enjoy the views of various historical monuments.
There is a zoo, a cricket club and various cafes. The park is very large, so it will take more than one day to explore everything. My friends and I purposefully walked to a clearing with deer, many said that we might be unlucky and there wouldn’t be any, we wandered for a very long time and finally found it.
It was simply an unforgettable and fabulous moment. We saw a herd of deer roaming freely. We were able to pet them and feed them.
It was the most amazing walk through probably the largest park in Europe.

Such a pleasant day to wander through the park and build a muse in your mind. A real spiritual energy permeated through my soul from the moment I stepped foot within. The chilly wind hit my face and I felt a tingly shudder against my neck and I just knew I was going to have a great walk. Nice dears too. Very tame. Not aggressive.

This is a fantastic amenity. A wonderful green space within the city of Dublin.A meditation haven.Sports a fine herd of deer,so I am told..but no luck for me. It has many pathways both hard and soft underfoot. Perfect for indulging in outdoor activities ,e.g walking, jogging etc,.It houses Dublin Zoo, The American Ambassador's residence, sports areas, children play area, among others. Has monuments, sculptures and the Papal Cross. We'll worth a visit in any season.

A wonderful place. So clean and well-maintained. The deer are located near the cricket club. A huge park that would require a whole day to enjoy fully - even a whole day might not be enough for this beautiful place.

Beautiful public park with great hiking and biking trails. It can feel like you’re in a rural forest even though you’re still in the middle of Dublin.

One of the biggest park in dublin.. I think we were able to visit one side of the park only which is where the deer are. better if you will bring snack/food(i dont know if this is allowed but we saw there are some who brought foods) for the deer so you can take a photo with them upclose

Highly recommend visiting for a breezy walk, to have deep conversations, or just lay back looking at the sky and bird watching. I’m positive there used to be more trees, sad that they’re minimal atleast where we walked.

A huge park in Dublin. Stunning place full of green. What's more, if you're lucky you can see a herd of deer which live in this park.
One of the largest zoos in Ireland, Dublin Zoo has a great selection of exhibits for kids including an African plain, fringes of the Arctic and Asian forests. With scheduled feedings times that offer a way to learn more about the animals, it's a great place to spend a day with family.
Amazing zoo. Been here multiple times since I was a child. Lots of animals from around the world and all staff seem to be friendly. Food and drinks served around the zoo too with toilets placed along the route. Was here today for the Wild Lights display. It was amazingly done and their was food stands (hot dog, burger + chicken stands inc. vegetarian options) + coffee stands around the route. Really nice display and is worth a visit.

Worth a visit. Located inside the Phoenix Park. Spacious zoo with different areas, you can easily spend a couple of hours in it. There are also some kiosks to buy food and drinks and areas to rest. Nice and well kept.

Great place especially for kids! The park is huge, you need around 2-3h to see everything. There are food stalls everywhere. We visited on a Friday and didn’t prebook a ticket, we didn’t even have to wait on the line although it was quite busy that day. The best thing about Dublin Zoo is that its spacious and the nature that’s surrounds it is beautiful. All the animals look happy and healthy and there are indoor and outdoor areas for them with lots of space !

This was a lovely zoo. They were setting up for the Christmas light show and it looked incredible so shame it wasn't on when we went.
All the animals looked well cared for, highlight was the savanna. There were lots of picnic areas, toilets and little adventure/ play areas throughout the zoo every few minutes walk which is great for families. There was also a big adventure indoor playpark.

Visited this evening with my grandson to enjoy The Wild Lights at the Zoo , was my first time for lights and I had to say that was great ! Can only imagine what a job had been done to create all those animals etc .. bring your kids there , it's a fairy tale 🤩 the only con - in some spots the music is far too loud , enchanted garden sounds should be moderate..

Dublin Zoo offers a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. From the moment we entered, it was evident that the zoo is meticulously maintained, with immaculate pathways and well-kept enclosures. The cleanliness of the facilities added to the overall enjoyment of our visit.
While exploring the zoo, we encountered a variety of fascinating animals. However, we were disappointed that we couldn't catch a glimpse of some of the more elusive species such as the lion, snow leopard, and tiger. Despite this, we were thrilled to see magnificent creatures like the giraffes, elephants, and California sea lions. Their habitats appeared spacious and enriched, providing a comfortable environment for the animals.
The highlight of our visit was observing the playful antics of the giraffes and the graceful movements of the elephants. The California sea lion exhibit was also captivating, offering insight into the lives of these charismatic marine mammals.
Overall, our experience at Dublin Zoo was enjoyable, especially on a day with good weather. Although we missed out on seeing a few animals, the cleanliness of the zoo and the opportunity to witness captivating species made it a memorable outing. We look forward to returning in the future to explore more of what Dublin Zoo has to offer.

Great hours spent walking around enjoying the sunshine and animals. We did stop on our way for a bite to wait around the zoo. We queued up to 40 minutes when we did get to the counter it was only one young lad on the till taking orders but another closed till beside him, there was a huge queue formed by the time we got our food but it tasted good. We really enjoyed our day, always staff about picking up loose debris, emptying bins etc.

Let's start with the booking system: excellent. I'm not sure if we got lucky but it's much better now than my last visit.
Anyway, you don't go to a zoo to talk about people or the tickets!!
The zoo itself is very well laid out. It's easy to walk around and there's plenty to see and do to keep kids (and adults) occupied. We brought a packed lunch and spent several hours exploring.
It's great to see so many different animals.
The exhibits are also very informative.
Parking is free and close by.

Excellent! We visited on 20th September and had an amazing time. There was hardly anyone there, which made the experience even better with zero crowds so we could walk around at our leisure. The animals are amazing! Such a nice zoo.

Great day for family and friends. We spent a half day taking our time going around the zoo. The Gorillas are very impressive as is the seal enclosure. There is some construction ongoing as they improve the zoo so expect a small few sections to be closed, nothing major.

Went on a weekend with kids, family and friends to see the Dublin Zoo lights for the first time. Was lucky to have a good weather, didn't rain and wasn't much cold. The lights and shows were truly magical and mystical. Seemed like a wonderland. Kids enjoyed and loved it so much.
Tips: Try to avoid weekends which gets very crowded. Had to park 1.2km away from the venue, so try to be early on the weekends.
Will highly recommend and revisit next year.

"Visiting Dublin Zoo on a Friday day trip from Cork was an unforgettable experience for my family and me. From the moment we stepped through the gates, we were immersed in a world of wonder and excitement. The zoo's sprawling grounds are beautifully landscaped, providing a natural habitat for the diverse range of animals housed here.
What truly stood out was the dedication of the staff, who were not only knowledgeable about the animals but also passionate about conservation efforts. We enjoyed engaging with them during feeding times and educational talks, gaining insights into the importance of wildlife preservation.
The zoo also offers numerous amenities, including cafes and picnic areas, making it easy to relax and recharge between adventures. Overall, our day at Dublin Zoo was filled with laughter, learning, and lasting memories. It's a must-visit destination for families seeking a fun and educational outing.

Loved this zoo! Large and full of some great animals with most being very visible. You can bet very close to the animals which is very nice! The only thing I didn't prefer were the enclosures in the middle where you have to backtrack to get back to where there are additional animals to see.

Great way to spend a nice sunny day. The tidbits of knowledge scattered around the zoo along with the animals in their beautifully crafted habitats are a treat for senses. Really nice cafes around as well and good spots to just sit and relax while taking in the sun.

Should you go to one of the oldest zoos in the world? Yes. Do they have nice habitats for the animals? Yes. Are there activities for you kids? Yes. Is the staff friendly? Of course they are. Is the food good? Yes, what we had was good. There is a lot to see. You also have a park nearby for more walking if you are up to it. Book your tickets online beforehand and show them your bar code, easy. I thought the place was also clean
Check it out.

Dublin Zoo was amazing! It’s situated around a large lake which is beautiful. There are so many different animals, some of which I’ve not seen in a while.
I especially loved the sea lions. My boyfriend Pete loved the gorillas and monkeys the best.
The snow leopard was gorgeous!

Excellent, we had a really, truly lovely time & it was a brilliant experience.
The animals are really well looked after & it shows. Staff are naturally caring and seem to really enjoy their job and it shows.
Toilets used were clean & there’s a variety of vending machines, cafes, ice cream stalls & other places for food on site. Loads of places to sit with a picnic too.
It was really good to see kids put their phones down and embrace the experience.
Truly brilliant.

very fun day out!! all of the wild lights decor was still up when we visited which had some fun photo ops. one downside is that a lot of the food outlets seem to have shorter opening hours than displayed on the website - gift shop closed quite early too.

Wonderful zoo with fantastic choice of animals to see, well mapped and friendly staff. Only down sides were parking wasn't sign posted and it was a warm day and no ice cream stands open. Apart from that we loved our visit and would visit again. Fantastic value for money as well! Pic added of my favourite 🦍😁

Very cool. I was impressed with the amount of animals. We went earlier in the morning which was nice since as we were leaving a bunch of younger kids and teens were very loudly showing excitement.
They have very nice enclosures with the ability to view the animals if they are inside their shelters. I loved the seals and all the information provided on the signs. Very cool zoo.
MK Yoder — Google review
It was a great trip, I love giraffes, and they apparently have an ok sized enclosure, compared to some other zoos I've seen, the animals generally seem fit and healthy, the monkey enclosure is huge, it looks like they have a good portion of forest for them to live. I took an animal care course and did behavioral observation work with African wild dogs, and they seemed fine and healthy, we didn't observe abnormal behavior. It's definitely worth the visit. Inside the zoo there is a restaurant, it is a little expensive, but the food is very good.
Kilmainham Gaol is a museum where people can learn about Ireland's history of political prisoners. The prison was built in 1796 and held many Irish leaders involved in the 1916 Easter Rising prior to their execution. It is a must-see attraction for tourists in Dublin and can be booked months in advance.
Highly recommend if you enjoy history. Book ahead as they tend to sell out the tours. Our guide was excellent and passionate about the information he shared. The prison has a fascinating place in Ireland’s history. There were younger children (under 10) on the tour and I think it was too long and a lot of information for them. I wouldn’t recommend children unless they have a passion for history.
Terri Griffin — Google review
As an American, I didn't appreciate the prominent role that Kilmainham Gaol played in the struggle for Ireland's independence. The museum is well preserved (after apparent extensive renovations in the late 1960s). The museum staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Cost to enter the museum is very reasonable too. Definitely worth the price of admission. Transportation from downtown Dublin is not super easy although bus stops are nearby.

If you are going to Dublin then I would highly recommend starting your trip at the Kilmainham Gaol and doing the guided tour. The tour also gives you access to the museum, so if you choose an earlier time, you can visit the museum after. Although it was raining the day we went, it was very tolerable as most of the tour is indoors. Bring an umbrella for the outdoor part.
Our tour guide was Andrew - he was great!! Very thorough, informative, funny and nice.
The museum is indoors, making it a really great place to visit in the rain. It is multiple stories with tons of history about the Kilmainham Gaol and the Republic of Ireland.

Really enjoyed this guided tour - local and very informative tour guide that went at a pace was easy to absorb whilst not feeling too lengthy. Great to see the actual jail and walk through whilst hearing about the lives of some past inmates many of whom were political activists. Would recommend as I would prebooking which can be up to 28 days in advance. Our holiday days were all sold out but some additional tickets are released each morning 9-9:30am and we managed to get some of those.

High recommend visiting here if you appreciate history and/or you just want to explore an amazing old jail. The tour was about 45 minutes and the guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about Kilmainham and its history. After the guided tour you can explore a museum at your own pace with plenty of exhibits and information. I only wish I had more time on the tour to take photos of all the creepy halls and cells.

This place was unreal to experience. The prison has so much history and the tour guides were so informative. They did an amazing job restoring the prison as well. The tour took just over an hour and got to see the east, west wing and the museum.
We had to buy tickets online.
Note: if it's full the day you are hoping to go online, check in the morning of. There was TONS of availability the morning of compared to being sold out days prior.

Great place to learn about some Irish history, in particular history of human rights. Great tour and our guide was very entertaining and enthusiastic. Good deal for the price and a must do for anyone wanting to learn about the Easter Rising and mistreatment of the lower class, women and children. A must do in Dublin. Easy to buy tickets in line, but they run out fast. When we booked, only three days out of the next ten had a few slots open. Book ahead!

A huge thank you to the Kilmainham team! I was welcomed by the security person in front if the gate who kindly spoke to me in French, big kuddos to him ! As I was a bit early he recommended me to visit the nice French garden of the hospital near the prison. Great walk before starting the tour. The prison visit itself is an amazing experience. The guide shared his emotions and passion with our group, he really brought us to tears. Every single place was a surprise, the building, the stories, everything was incredibly interesting and full of emotions. The 3 floors museum visit with artifacts was a great wrap up. This is a must to see in Dublin.

Our tour guide Ellen really made the life in the prison come alive. The tour takes 1h and there are tours every 15 minutes. The desired tour slot need to be reserved online ahead of time. The easiest way to get there is to take bus 79 (dublin bus) which cost 1.7 euros.

This is the place where the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were detained and executed. Visits are by guided tours only, and I would recommend booking a number of weeks in advance as they tend to be sold out quickly. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and clearly demonstrate their passion for the subject. The courtyard where the rebel leaders were executed is especially poignant. There is a museum at the end of the tour which provides a good overview of Irish history.
I highly recommend a visit to this place in order to get a deeper understanding of Irish nationalism.

Our tour guide Adam was nothing short of spectacular. I‘ve taken a lot of guided tours through museums, walking tours and whatever. But Adam got us involved in the story of the prisoners with such an immersion that this will remain an unforgettable experience to me. I think he holds a PhD in Theatre Sciences or if not he should be awarded one.
The 1 hour tour is well worth it, but take some time and stroll through the museum as well. It‘s not overloaded but provides the exact right amount of very interesting pieces of Irish history.
Best combined with other tours that get you warm with Irish history, otherwise i could imagine the real context of all that might be a bit hard to get - that‘s not on the guides, within an hour you won‘t learn everything about Irish history.
Thanks staff and thanks particularly to Adam!

Buy your tickets in advance, you need to pre-plan for this one! Parking is available on the street in front (pay & display with a max of 3 hours), or in a lot that’s 5 minutes down the road. We parked out front as we had a tour at 9:45am and there was parking available. I loved this tour, the history and the space is incredible. Our guide, Harry, was very knowledgeable and very kind. The admission price was also very low and that was nice!
My only negative is that this tour felt rushed, not by our guide, but in general. There is so much more to see and learn about, but you are limited to one hour and you are unable to see it all. Options for a self-guided walking tour should be available, as there are many of us who would prefer to learn, discover, take photographs, and roam on our own.

One of the most powerful experiences we had in Ireland was visiting the 1796 Kilmainham Gaol. We saw both the old section and the east wing which was replaced with a new, updated design in the late 1850’s. Our tour guide, Mary, did an excellent job of telling us about the history of the jail/prison. She also shared the circumstances of some of the inmates and how they came to be there, including children during the Great Famine, and leaders of the 1916 Uprising. The museum provided interesting additional information.

Outstanding tour that gives a comprehensive look at modern Irish history over the last 200 years. Arguably, this prison was the site of the beginning of Irish Independence! We had a tremendous tour guide who provided a great overview of the former inmates and the significance of the jail in Ireland's overall historical perspective. Must book 30 days out, or log on at 8:30-930 local time on the day of to book tickets.

I like history, so Kilmainham Goal was perfect.
Our guide, Daisy, spoke very clearly. It was easy to understand her no matter how far away we were from her.
Kilmainham Goal has an interesting story and played an important part for the history of Ireland.
It also has a little museum which is very interesting, too.
You need to book your tickets in advance, because it is often sold out.
Not far from it there is the Irish National War Memorial Park. I recommend taking a look because it's stunning. On hot days it is perfect for a little break.
The Wicklow Mountains are an expansive range of mountains that house ancient Neolithic passage tombs, rare and unique bird species, and a diverse array of flora and fauna. Visitors can take a tour from Dublin for only 22, which includes transportation to the mountains where they can enjoy picturesque walks, capture stunning photographs, and even have lunch. This location has also been the backdrop for famous movies such as P.S. Love You.
Beautiful stunning landscape!
It has 2 beautiful lakes and several tracking paths. Ideal for having a walk or a picnic.
It has 2 car parks but if you decide to go on a weekend or bank holiday i would advise to go really early. Roads are narrow and you'll get stuck in traffic for at least an hour.

Breathtaking views, amazing greenery, great walking paths, lovely fresh air....need I go on? Don't hesitate and get yourself down there.
If you are a picture taking enthusiast then this place is for you. There are many amazing points for you to angle that camera and take shots from: Poulanass Waterfall, Nature Reserve points, Ancient Burial grounds, Wildlife (we saw a Fox and some Deer). The Glendalough Upper Lake was absolutely stunning and my favourite spot.
This is a great place to take the family or even your loved one to. A day trip to explore history, take long walks and get some exercise all at the same time with some of those much loved 'selfie' moments. Why not bring your dog along too if you have one - plenty for them to do!
There are tuck-shops for you to buy food from and I would recommend the chips as they were absolutely brilliant (especially on a cold day!). If you are a family with kids, you could bring your own picnic, and set-up in the various parts of greenery. Bring a Frisbee too for the kids/adults.
*You can use Gas fire BBQ's if you are planning to do this here but not Coal fired BBQ's I imagine due to safety reasons.
This is a good site for hikers as this is within Wicklow Mountains and we saw a lot of hikers preparing for camp.
Fishing enthusiasts will be pleased to know you can fish here amongst some of the lakes and rivers: most common fish found is the Brown Trout.
It will get cold so do wrap up warm if the weather is anything below 10 degrees.
Enjoy the panoramic views and beauty encompassing Wicklow Mountains.
