The bridge was built in 1954 mainly for Zvezdochka (in the same year the first government order was placed at the ship repair yard). In 2014, a new railway part of the bridge was opened. P.S. What “epic” “shooters” took place here between the “Yagrinsky” and “urban” ones in the eighties... :)

(Translated by Google) The hard-working bridge has been in service for more than 60 years, it allows a huge traffic flow through it. Previously, heavy special wagons walked across the bridge, road trains with a total weight of 90 tons passed, it withstood everything, although it is actually in a state of disrepair. The margin of safety is huge, they knew how to build before. It's time to think about major repairs, otherwise Yagry Island will be cut off from the mainland.

(Translated by Google) The Andoma geological section is one of the unique places in the Vytegorsky region. A small section of the coast, only three kilometers long, is a landscape, mineralogical and paleontological reserve.
Andoma Mountain is famous as the most powerful and beautiful place on the coast of Lake Onega, special and even “witchcraft”. A steep shore, covered in places with spruce forest and alder, stunning views of the endless expanses of Lake Onega, the mouth of the Andoma River and taiga forests to the very horizon. There is shungite and crystalline quartz, shells of the inhabitants of ancient seas - fish and shellfish, and fossilized ferns that are approximately 400 million years old.
The oldest sediments of the Devonian and Cambrian periods formed bizarre stripes of various shades on the steep banks - light gray and blue, yellow, red and even dark purple. The glacier transformed these layers into intricately abstract paintings. From the colorful clay slopes of Andoma Mountain you can read the history of the planet 350-400 million years ago.

I'll never travel to Rovaniemi without this trip planner again
Kizhi Museum is an open-air complex in Russia that showcases a wooden church dating back to 1714 and cultural exhibits from various time periods. It features numerous log buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, some of which are furnished in period style. The highlight of the museum is the Transfiguration Church with its impressive 30 miniature domes. However, visitors should note that renovation works are currently ongoing and may impact the view.
Wonderful, ornate wooden churches from 18th century and secular structures that may date back to 16th. We had a personable, knowledgeable guide. Island well maintained and easy to navigate.

Great place to visit but not very on hot day as there are almost no trees, no shadow. Repellent is a must! Rent a bike to explore the northern part of the island. Visit gift shop, it's cheaper then most of other shops in petrozavodsk.
Natalya Kan — Google review
It was the best part of our trip to Russia. You'd spend 50$ just to get to the island and see the open air museum but I believe it is worth it. We even changed our schedule to stay one more day in Petrozavodsk as on the day we planned, tickets for the hydrofoil was finished and there was no other way so I suggest booking in advance if possible. In the short time allowed to be on the island we got the chance to fully visit all parts, taking the route clockwise and then even reach some villages out of the touristic area.

Open-air museum on an island featuring a church & historical wooden buildings from around Karelia.
This open air museum is really great and well organized. You arrive here by ship and then you stay there for 4 hours before return. The 1st 2 hours you have a guide, also in english, the other 2 hours you are free to do whatever you want. There is also a restaurant there and souvenir shops. The main church is still closed for reconstruction.

I was searching for a spot in the St. petersburg area online and decided to look for Kizhi, just out of curiosity --- I visited this place back in 1973...
Yes, that's 47 years ago!! I was in high school at the time, and taking part in a Russian language study summer trip! This was one of several excursions while I was staying in Leningrad (St. Petersburg!) Back in the cold war era..!!! Anyway, seeing all the online photos now sure brought back some memories! I remember seeing those wooden churches with such amazing detail, and wondering how and why they were built. Going by the recent photos, it looks like this place has been well maintained, which is good.
If you find yourself in the area for any reason, this is a worthwhile side trip.

Wooden architecture can be found throughout Russia, but Kizhi Island boasts some of the nation's most famous, and most intricate, examples. These structures on Kizhi Island date from various centuries (the oldest from the 14th century), Blessed with one of the most picturesque ensembles of Russian wooden churches, the Lake Onega island Kizhi provides the most scenic destination on Russia’s greatest waterway, the Volga.

Famous Kizhi - the legend says these churches and other buildings were built without any nail. Truth it or not, doesn't matter as Kizhi quite popular among tourists either Russian or International (On the day we were visiting Kizhi, huge ship had arrived with dozens of tourists mostly Americans and German). Kizhi is a magic place, quiet and like no other. The way people used to live here was recreated - students and volunteers dressed in relevant clothes will tell you some stories about how Kizhi was established, what people ate and how they survived long and cold winters. Beatiful choir consisting of 4 or 5 singers will bring you some sense of this place

Therefore, we highly recommend asking Sergei Ivanovich to take a tour of the surrounding area: along the Finnish defense line during the Great Patriotic War, along the locks of the White Sea-Baltic Canal, stopping, of course, at Sandarmokh (the burial place of political prisoners killed by the NKVD), as well as to the filming site "Love and pigeons". Many thanks to Sergei Ivanovich for his sincere attitude towards every guest who visited the museum! Strength and success in everything!

The ecological park Водопад Кивач features a stunning 35-foot-tall waterfall created by the River Suna as it cascades over a ridge. The area serves as a nature reserve and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the beautiful northern landscape. This location is known for its second-largest flat waterfall in Europe, and it boasts amenities such as restrooms, a museum, and a cafe.
Nice place. This is not the huge waterfall, but they call it second biggest flat waterfall of Europe. It has nice territory, nice stuff, toilets, museum and cafe. You can take a walk around and enjoy the northern nature. We came at 7:30 p.m. (summer time it works till 9 p.m.) and there were no people around. So I guess this is the best time for visiting. Still bright and noone around.

Of course, these places are worth visiting. But there was a volcano in our heart.
Girvas Volcano is an ancient extinct volcano in Karelia, more than 2–3 billion years old. It is located 1.5 hours drive from Petrozavodsk and is currently almost completely destroyed by nature and time. Only more than 20 solidified lava flows up to 32 meters thick and traces of the crater have been preserved. But this is already enough to understand and feel the whole atmosphere and power of this place.
Due to the fact that we got there in the evening, it turned out that there was no one here except us! Therefore, we enjoyed the extinct Girvas volcano under the rays of the setting sun...

(Translated by Google) Until recently, this place was not called a volcano, and entry was absolutely free. It was positioned as the gateways of a hydroelectric power station. It was fun to climb on these stones that had been worn away by the water. But recently this place has turned into a kind of Eco-park. So far there is no fundamental difference, except for the fence and entrance tickets. But I don’t mind paying for “viewing the failure” if this money actually goes towards improving the territory. Overall, I definitely recommend watching it.

They ask for 100 rubles for entry, but we drove a little further from the main entrance and no one demanded anything. And what they are asking for is not clear. The only thing made for convenience is a rope with red flags. There is nothing more interesting. It will probably be very interesting for city residents.

The exhibits featured many exhibits about livelihoods such as slash-and-burn farming and hunting, as well as the war with Russia, which I felt were important for understanding the local culture of the Karelia region. Although the display of slash-and-burn cultivation is not that conspicuous, Finland has traditionally burned forests for agriculture, and when you think about it, the image of a ``land of forests and lakes'' is a very modern image, and perhaps I can understand that this is a new representation created in the Finnish tourism campaign. The Open Air Museum is a relocated and reconstructed farm house and sauna from the area until the early 20th century. Each building has a number, and you can read the description by comparing it to the map. There is also English notation, which is helpful. It was a very large museum for a small town museum, and was visited by many tourists and locals. It is about 1 to 2 hours drive from the famous tourist destination Ukko Koli on the other side of the lake.

IMPORTANT: guys, when you go there, remember three things. 1. One is when you rent canoe, it is NOT for three people but for two. 2. Two is when you go by canoe, there are two lakes - make sure to CHOOSE the blue one shown in the picture. 3. Three is when you go to hike to see the canyon and the hanging bridge - do NOT take the main entrance route but the red one shown in the picture.
Now why do I recommend those three?
1. If you are odd number of people, like us yesterday - we were 5 and rented two canoe, it kinda made it uncomfortable for the fifth one to sit without the seat.
2. The southern lake is objectively boring in comparison with the right northern lake - amazing views are waiting for you there.
3. The left route is objectively more difficult than the right one: three times more difficult and wet.
Of course, the "brilliant" Finnish service will never tell you that. Be prepared. Otherwise, the place is beautiful, and if you do the right things - you will definitely enjoy it.

Hossa National Park is a relatively new national park in Finland. It's located on themiddle eastern part of the country in Kainuu and Northern Ostrobothnia regions. The park is full of crystal clear cozy lakes, connected by streams and rapids. Other great features of the park are the ways of affections between gorgeous rock formazions, eskers and lakes. The park is literally the Finnish version of Plitvice National Park

Waanzinnig mooi park.

Insanely beautiful park. The river Oulanka, which largely flows through a gorge here, is more than beautiful, together with the very dense primeval forests make this park a real winner. There are several parking spaces around the park, from which well-signposted hiking trails lead through the park. Various routes are suitable for a day trip, others such as the bear trail take several days. The park also has a number of simple overnight huts and a beautiful visitor center (stuffed bears).
Although the park is located on the Russian border (many bears) and has a large bear population, the chance of seeing a bear is minimal.
The park can suffer from extreme numbers of mosquitoes, multi-day hikers be warned. The Finnish multi-day hikers we encountered were still completely covered in lumps, despite wearing all kinds of equipment, including surgical gloves.
Nevertheless, the park is highly recommended.

Very nice appartments. Ruka Ski Chalets are very comfortable appartments that would be suitable for a couple, a famliy or even two couples. Rooms have their own sauna. Ruka Ski Chalets are located aproximately 100 meters from the ski lift and 200 meters from the town centre.

The location is perfect next to he ski lifts and the restaurants. Of course not to forget the grocery stores and all the other services available next to the accommodation. The lack of parking places is an issue, although there is a indoor parking hall in the village usable for a fee of 15 euros (Winter 2023).
The apartment we were staying in the number 1 part of the building was pretty uncomfortable due to the noisy corridors. You heard all the people walking in the corridor, like there the door wouldn't have sealed any of the noise. The same was with the stairs, the apartment we stayed was next to the middle stairway between the parts I&II.
I wouldn't call this a luxury but a commodity instead.

Great place for all ages. Best to arrive when the place opens (or schedule your exit to closing time) as it is less crowded.

This is a favourite venue for us and our children. We have visited kajaani twice and both times have ended up driving to the superpark. It's reasonably priced with lots to do.

It is a great update, my son loved it. We stayed for a week I wish they had an ALL included bracelet though, maybe 120E a week instead of the 60E month. Lasers, VR, ER, meal plus a treat like a T shirt. Would be totally worth it.

Awesome place where both kids and adults can find things to do. There is golf simulator for those who rather play golf then ski in winter.

A bit far away from the slopes but very friendly personnel and a good selection of stuff to do for everyone.
By far one of the best things to see when visiting Kajaani. These might be the oldest castle ruins in all of Finland. The ruins are a great way to explore the history of Kajaani and Finland. Some info boards in the castle tell you about the wars that the castle was used in 👌 The only bad thing about this place is that there is an actual road that goes directly over the castle. At least I assume that the bridge could have been built elsewhere.

In the central Kajaani you can find what probably is the oddest castle ruins anywhere. The old ruins are fascinating, full of history and worth visiting as such as there is even no fee to enter. But then there is the road - a lively trafficked road runs straight through the castle. And I mean right in the middle. It's such a disrespect to the old castle, shame on you Kajaani!

Really nice ruins in the city centre with good accessibilities!

Very lovely castle ruin with nice history!
For Finland, where castles and ruins are rare, this was a pleasant surprise. Ruins are on a small island, under a bridge, and they are bigger than what they seemed from a picture. Nothing special for people who aren't fans of ruins or history, but we really loved the look and on a sunny day it was a very nice trip. You can combine with exploration of Kajaani.

Old ruins in the middle of the city. Parking option on both ends of the bridge where you can find a bridge going over to castle

Very nice place to learn about some of the Finnish Swedish Russian history. The place are ruins of the castle with the remaining base in place, and now a road going through it. The place looks great in the winter time as well as in the summer. It can be an adventurous place to wander with nearby activities for all the family.

Ruins are interesting to visit. Though the entrance is closed (for the renovation probably) and you can see them only from the bridge.

Nice place for short visit. Ruins well preserved and well presented for the public.

Cool castle in the middle of a road and water. It is cool to see how it is still standing. Quick visit to watch and possible to walk inside

Incredibl meal, can't recommend this restaurant enough. We shared the creamy salmon, potato and dill soup that was just amazing. My chantrelle mushroom risotto and my boyfriends perch were both delicious as well. Service was friendly, atmostphere was lowkey and laidback. We would definitely visit Oulu again just go to this restaurant again.

Perfect in its category! A very nice, cozy, unpretentious gastro pub with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious Finnish food! The alderwood smoked (leppäsavu) salmon was to die for. We will definitely visit this place again before we head back home!

One of the best restaurants in Oulu. Price is high, but quality of food is according the price. I suggest to try reindeer meat. Smashed is good and alsO slowly cooked. Big portion, very soft delicious meat!

Probably one of the best steaks in Oulu. No, don't order anything other than tenderloin steak. Expensive, but definatively worth it. This one with goat cheese and new potatoes.

Nallikari beach is a beautiful and serene destination situated in a winter wonderland. The white sand beach offers many activities such as swimming, water sports rentals, cafes, and cycling routes to explore the scenic beauty of the area. It is located only 3.5 KM from Radisson Blue Hotel, making it an easily accessible location for tourists looking to enjoy a clean and less crowded environment without having to travel far from the city center.
I went to this place in winter and had an amazing experience walking on the frozen sea. It was an out of the world feel. People have been walking, running, skiing, skating and ice fishing on the frozen sea. The first experiences are one of the best experiences and this was one such for me. Lovely landscape, completely white all around and a peaceful surrounding. In summer this would be another best spot to swim, camp and spend some quality time outdoor
