Goatfell

Mentioned on
Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Mountains
Goatfell, situated on an island, is the highest peak with a height of 874 metres. It can be reached through hiking routes adorned with rhododendron bushes. Climbing the well-tracked path to the top provides breathtaking views all around the island and also offers glimpses of Northern Ireland on clear days. The climb is challenging but not too difficult that one would get lost easily.
Did this hike early January, and did not expect there to be this much snow at the top. It was raining on the bottom and snowing at the top. Spikes are highly recommended for the snow at the top.

It’s a lovely hike and not as challenging as it looks. Allocate 4-5 hours. We were worried about scrambling close to the top but it turned out there are two paths available, with or without scrambling. Lovely hike, highly recommend it when visiting Arran.

Great climb, and the climb is pathed too so it’s not difficult to get lost. Once at the top the views are breathtaking; you can see all around the island, and if the day is clear, you can just make out Northern Ireland! At the bottoms of the climb; there is a little shop called ‘Enchantments’ and they sell little pots of local ice cream with an outdoor seating area, this completes the hike! Fantastic place, great views, well tracked.

Stunning views from the top. It works out just over 8 miles round trip from the wine port pub car park just outside of Brodick. We did it with our 6 year old and 4 year old (he was in a backpack most of the way, and that is no easy feat to carry a 4 year old up). Our 6 Yr old daughter managed it but it took us around 6 to 7 hours in total with lots of stops. The last few hundred meters get very steep up rock steps and scrambles but they are achievable. I would set off early if trying to achieve this with younger kids to give them a lot of breaks as it feels a long way. The 4 1/2 hour estimate at the bottom of the trail is a bit unrealistic in my opinion even if you didn't have kids. Definately worth a go for the 360 degree views of the island though. It did get a bit cold and breezy at the top so even if it's sunny you may need a coat, and stuff for the midges near any water!

Walked up from Brodick, clear path leaves from car park outside Saltwater gallery, up through castle woods and onto fells. Passing a bridge and deer fence you cross a moor and ascend up onto a spur which leads upwards to the summit, last 500 feet is like a steep staircase and quite tough. Summit view is truly outstanding, on a clear day we could see the paps of Jura 35 miles away. View over Brodick, Glen Rosa and the west of Arran is stunning......

Hiked 08-01-2024, set off at 10:20 and returned 14:50. What an amazing trail! We parked at Arran Brewery where there was plenty of parking (this time of year), the trail starts around the back of the brewery and is well signposted. There are a few other points to start from, like to the southeast at the castle’s NT car park or to the east off the A841. Climbing up through lush forested hills where the paths twist and turn, it opens up to moorlands with amazing views. The views even from this point are stunning. Further up, it becomes more rugged and the granite stones become bigger. The last 40-45 minutes of the incline becomes steep. This time of year, it is quite icy for this last section and it can be very slippery where the trail has been well trodden. Unfortunately, up on the summit we had no views as it was covered in thick grey cloud. The wind was not strong, but it was very chilly on the face. If the wind is strong down in Brodick, then it is likely to be very windy up at the summit. So, it is essential to keep check of the weather conditions. Overall, the path is well signposted, easy to follow, not too muddy in the forested areas, and fairly easy to walk. We will definitely be coming back again soon to grab those views from the summit!
Our Road To Nowhere — Google review
A great hill on the Isle of Arran. The most common route from Cladach is a steady climb for the best part of the ascent before reaching a steeper section for the final push for 700m and climbing 243m
JS Haggart — Google review
Walked the route from Arran Brewery. A very tough but rewarding walk. Took me about 6 hours to get up and back, but I did stop for rests with dog and took some stunning photos. Definitely need a head for heights as the final part is almost vertical. On a good day weather wise, take plenty of food and water, but the views are amazing.

Good walk/climb great views, bit stiff the next day, would l do it again YES 😃

Great walk to the island’s highest point. The path is easy to follow and clear apart from the small climb at the top. The views from the top on a clear day are amazing!

Amazing but challenging mountain to climb. Our family of 4 (with 2 teenagers) attempted an assent today (13th Feb). It was a clear sunny day with a little wind at sea level. We started from the car park at the Arran Distillery at 10am. The mountain top was covered in snow and posts suggested crampons & snow picks ⛏️ in the winter months. We had neither. The trek is 20% woodland 🌲walk from the car park then 80% rough path with rocks, boulders 🪨 so you need to be reasonably fit. We had two short breaks and a 20 min lunch. It took us 5 hours in total and we walked 16km. Unfortunately the snow was too thick and treacherous so we only managed 90% up when we took the decision to turn around. It was in touching distance. ☹️ An experienced climber with crampons on managed the peak and said we had made the right decision like a few others who turned around. We live to fight another day 😁. Some other advice: it's windier 🌬️ and colder 🥶 (1 °C less per 100m climbed from sea level) so please be prepared. We look forward to returning to Arran in the Spring / Summer to try again. 😎 See pictures of the stunning views.

Blessed with the weather. Did circular route from Brodick, up Goatfell, across to North Goatfell and down from the Sadle through the beautiful Glen Rosa complete with a wee dip in the blue pools. Lovely.
Mark W — Google review
A lovely hike. Its steep at parts and in summer it can be like a motorway but if you start out early you will miss all that. The first boat over is the best. The trail starts behing the arran brewery and leads up through the castle country park before you break out of the wooded area into the open then its over the bridge bear left and follow the path. The peak is a good walk and is easiest if you bear right above the scramble stones at the top. Bear left and you have a silly climb which is dangerous. The view from the top on a clear day is unbeatable out over Brodick and across to the three towns.

Amazing hike, saw the sunrise from the ridge and enjoyed a very sunny day. Saw a few golden eagles as well :)
Aida Ovalle — Google review
Easy to follow route from the brewery with stunning views throughout. The colours from the rhododendron bushes really adds to the landscape. The last section was particularly rocky and steep but worth the effort for the views at the top. Bring midge spray!
Huiyao Tang — Google review
Beautiful view, good trail to the top. Go in mid summer for the best sunsets
Tommi Brooks — Google review
A very enjoyable climb and teenager/dog friendly route. The last half an hour is more challenging as the rocks become more uneven and steeper as you get towards the top, but it's worth it! We got caught out by the weather a little (not a cloud in the sky when we started, but sideways rain by the time we got to the top) but that just made it more memorable :oD

Amazing place to visit and a challenging climb to the summit. It will take a good few hours to complete. The climb to the very top is extremely steep but the views from the top are incredible and extremely rewarding.

Giants' Graves

The Giants' Graves is a tranquil location that boasts of two ancient burial chambers with a rich history. The site has been around for many years and features breathtaking panoramic views of the coast. It is an area that has stood the test of time and remains a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.
I went at sunrise. Beautiful and quiet! It's a long hike in via a logging road.easy walking and stunning views
S Bassett — Google review
Despite hitting this during torrential rain, it was certainly worth the visit. Coming up from the Falls, it's an easy walk and the descent back down to Whiting Bay is nowhere as steep as some make out.
Donald McCaskey — Google review
It was raining with a low cloud base so no views from the top the day I visited. I walked anti-clockwise, so I'd already walked to the falls. Signage is less good in this direction. Their is no signpost showing where to go once you are at the Giant's Grave. The path, leading back to the starting path is accessed directly from the Giant's Grave at the far end from where you gained access.

Well worth seeing, especially with a guide who can tell you all about it. Recommend Mogabout forest safaris

One of the best preserved, considering its age and that stones were removed over time. Worth seeing even in rain and wind. Thanks to the FC for the info board, but we could t find the others on the OS map. They must have been amongst the planted trees around.

Be prepared for a steep walk up lots of steps. We parked in a small car park by the beach and then walked up the no entry to vehicles road. We then followed the steps up to the graves where you get some brilliant views of the island. You can also walk to some waterfalls from here. No toilets
Mighty Red80 — Google review
What a trek up the hillside. But we'll worth it for the atmosphere. Just magic and amazing views.
Christine Redmond — Google review
Note: we walked to the site via the shorter, steeper path, not the longer path via Glenashdale Falls. So the walk there isn't fun for most. It's steep and doubles back on itself in zig zags because the hill is so steep. I think that it's not an easy climb for most. The path is quite uneven and has rough steps which I assume get quite slippery. All maps make the walk seem short, but in reality it's quite tiring!! The site itself is high up, with gorgeous views. The cairns are interesting to look at, and the scene is very dramatic. The cairns are also well kept, which is lovely to see as they're so historically importnat. I wish it wasn't such a climb, however there is an alternate route, which we didn't take because we thought it would be longer. Next time we will go via the waterfall!!
Hermione Gerrard — Google review
Stunning loop walk up to this site, heading to Glenashdale Falls first then on to the Giants’ Graves. This Neolithic site is remarkable and the location is beautiful.
Char Binns — Google review
Well signposted for Glenashdale Falls and the Giants Graves from the south end of Whiting Bay. I'd reccomemd the circular route (nearly 3.5 miles) and go straight up to the falls first which is a little over 1 mile with a fairly steep last 5 mins so. Back down the forestry road to the Giants Graves and then keep on the path past the graves which winds back down the hillside to Whiting Bay. Stunning views along most of it. Can be a but muddy at the bottom if it's been raining and it's a well worn/maintained path so hard to go wrong. One of the nicest medium walks in Arran.

Lochranza Distillery

Food & Drink
Lochranza whisky distillery is a great place to visit if you're looking for a taste of Scotland's famously smooth whisky. The distillery offers tours and tastings, as well as a cozy cafe where you can savor some delicious soup and snacks.
Unfortunately we were not able to do a Tour of the place because of the ferry/bus timetables, but we went to the Cafe and had some nice food and a couple drams instead. The food was great, lovely staff (they even checked up on our ferry before we left) and we were able to try some nice whisky, even without a tour.
Maresa — Google review
Fantastic tour of the distillery led by Scott. Really informative about the history of the distillery and the area. Brilliant local knowledge including the wildlife in the area. Lorna was wonderful too. Would really recommend the tour. Looking forward to our next visit if we come back to Arran in the future.

What a fantastic place! Tour was brilliant and delivered with such passion by Sarah, she really knew her stuff and was able to answer all the questions that were thrown at her. The staff were great. Bought some whisky at the end of the tour which we decided to have shipped home. Highly recommended.

Tour was fantastic. In-depth without being overwhelming. Our guide Pam was absolutely amazing and can't speak highly enough of her. Well worth the visit and the whisky was, somehow, even better than the tour!!

Lovely location and really friendly staff at this distillery. Tried my hardest not to be tempted by the single malts but failed and bought a bottle of the 10 year old in the end 😉. Highly recommended visiting here and sampling some of the whisky - the whisky tasting experience is superb 🥃

What a great spot to visit! Scott was a fabulous tour guide of the distillery and I had a very tasty lunch in the cafe. Everyone was very friendly and it was the perfect place to escape from the storm outside.

Arran whisky is distilled here, I will let you judge the whisky however the distillery is well worth a visit. The location is stunning and only about 5 minutes drive from the ferry port of Lochranza, which sails from Claonaig on the mainland. The shop has a good variety and the staff are excited about the whisky and experience they give visitors, especially on special release days. Also worth a visit is their sister distillery Lagg, who h is literally the other end of the island.

Yesterday I did The Arran Malt Experience Tour, which was very informative. Mark & Amy did a great job in explaining the whisky process and the history behind Arran Whisky. A totally enjoying experience and loved sampling some of the whisky too.

So interesting! Very well presented. Tasting session very well received. Bottles provided for the ‘drivers dram’ so they can be enjoyed by drivers once the car has been parked up for the night. Wonderful idea.
Bev Simcock — Google review
Sarah was AMAZING, the best whiskey/distillery guide I’ve come across in 50 something visits over the last decade. I rocked up for my 2:30 premium tasting at 11 due to some ferry issues and she was able to sneak me onto an about to start tasting. She perfectly accommodated a couple with limited English who had really never had a pour before and myself. They got exactly what they needed to have a great time, and so did I. She had recommendations for my togo bottle, contacted their sister shop and located a bottle they were out of for me. It is so obvious to the enthusiast when we are presented with a guide who matches our passion for the final distillery product. While it's nice to hear from the ops side of things and I’ve had some good tours from non-whiskey drinkers, this was truly a fellow enthusiast who speaks the language from my POV and she made my trip to Arran so amazing.

Everyone's whisky taste can be different, but the quality and variety of spirit made here is really impressive. As is Billy who led us on an excellent chocolate whisky pairing which had some good talking points. Definitely coming again

Had a great tour with Scott. The cafe is very good but the 10 year old whisky is the best.

This was a great experience for whisky novices and aficionados alike. It was presented in a warm informal way in a comfortable environment. The tasters were encouraged to give their opinions and feedback on the varied and interesting whiskies that were given to us to taste .The host Olivia was so knowledgeable and keen to share it with us. All in all a first rate experience. I shall definitely look for future events hosted by Lochranza and Lagg distilleries in the future.

One of the best Distillery Tours I have had the pleasure to enjoy. Thank you Mal for providing an exceptional tour, and thank you to the kind and wonderful team at Arran Lochranza Distillery, I look forward to returning in a few years' time! Until then I shall sip on the Arran 10 / Bodega and remember good times.
Tom A — Google review
The tour captures the essence of the distillery itself, warm, approachable and with a bedrock of craft. Many thanks to Mal for his enthusiastic tour - many larger distilleries could learn much from his approach.
Bob Spencer — Google review
This is a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours on the island. Really interesting and great fun! Our guide, Mal, made the tour especially enjoyable - he’s clearly incredibly passionate about the Isle of Arran and about Arran whisky - his passion and enthusiasm were infectious. His sense of humour also made this a really fun experience! As souvenir we each got to keep our wee dram glasses after a tasting in the cosy bar area, unfortunately I was driving but Mal offered a “drivers dram” to take away meaning I didn’t miss out which was so appreciated. The gift shop is great too, loads to choose from and reasonable prices. We didn’t visit the cafe but it looked lovely. Money and time very well spent and would definitely visit again!
Julie Robertson — Google review
An absolute gem of a whisky distillery and one of the most picturesque distilleries there is around in the whole of Scotland, which is situated on the north side of Isle of Arran in the village of Lochranza. The distillery looks absolutely fantastic on the outside blending in well with the mountains in the background but is even better on the inside with a variety of stellar tours around the distillery learning about the process of whisky making and to tasting the different drams they produce. The range of tours are The Basic Distillery costing £15 lasting 1 hour where you walk through the distillery seeing the whiskey making process up close and personal and try a 10 year old single malt and Arran Gold Cream Liqueur and one of the other tours is the Lochranza Select Tasting lasting 90 minutes and looks deeper into the range of Arran Single Malts made at the site and allows people to try one of their cask strength and limited edition whiskies. The Lochranza Select Tasting costs £40 each. There are other tours besides the ones mention and these can all be viewed on their website to get further relevant information. The tours themselves are absolutely amazing where the whisky making process is discussed in absolute enthralling and informative detail by the tour guides who are very enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable about the subject matter well. As stated earlier on the tours you head right up into the distillery which can be very hot and noisy where the tour guides show the equipment used in the Whisky making process and how they aid in the process of whiskey process allowing you to have an idea and a full picture of how whisky is made. The distilling room in particular is an absolute awesome sight with the stills in particular being the standout with their imposing copper structures which do look great and are an iconic reminder of the whiskey making process. Another great aspect of the tour is the introductory video you watch about the history of the distillery how it started and how it is grown to being a top distillery and renowned for making the Arran Single Malt and this is further complemented by a nice interesting display the historical synopsis of the distillery and how it grew, which is housed in the downstairs area of the Visitor Centre and the display can be viewed prior to any of the tours starting and is a great way to wet your appetite for those tours ahead and get an idea of how the distillery has grown in size over the years. Another fantastic element of the distillery and the tours is the fact that the single malt is made from the purest methods used by any distillery in Scotland with natural freshwater coming from Loch na Davie which is located further up the valley from the distillery and the water comes down the stream which is located behind the distillery. The tasting at the end of the tour is excellent and you can get the great tastes of the renowned 10 year single malt and also the Arran Gold Cream Liqueur. There is a gift shop on the site selling a range of Arran Malts and also related merchandise at reasonable prices and also there is a cafe with a range of food and drink at affordable prices. The outside of the distillery offers some of the most breathtakingly picturesque views on Arran there is and also you can also see one of the stills from yesteryear on display and looks magnificent in the grounds. Overall this place for a fabulous and enjoyable day out to see the whisky making process up close and personal and also see one of the purest methods around for making it. Definitely an attraction worth visiting whilst on the Isle of Arran.

Ancient Ruins
Machrie Moor Standing Stones is a popular tourist attraction consisting of six Neolithic stone circles. The site features information boards and a car park for visitors, with easy access to the mostly flat walking trail spanning about 2km across fields. Some of the standing stones reach up to 5m in height, with markers providing historical and environmental context for each circle.
Nice trail walk to the stone circles. Well marked and easy to walk on. From the parking lot, the stone circles are about 2km away. Lots of sheep to stare at on the way there as well as a derelict farm stead. Be warned, no restrooms in the area and very little trees to do your business.
Richard Armstrong — Google review
A must see for those interested in ancient sites, as well as those interested in an atmospheric view. Even in rainy conditions the hike is worth it, and takes about an hour or so return from the small car park. The stones themselves are from around 1800bc, and the overall site is contemporary with Stonehenge, with the areas still visible replacing older wooden structures. Beautiful colours and quiet, a place to contemplation and one not to miss on Arran.
Juliette S — Google review
Several circles of standing stones all within a mostly flat walk on fields for about 2km Car park is signed and the rest is quite easy to follow. Some stone circles have markers explaining details about them and their history or about environmental initiatives in the area. Some of the circles are really impressive, with a few standing up to 5m.
Chris Bowman — Google review
Ancient stone circle. Easy walking along the farm path. The trail can be wet and muddy and full of cute circular sheep poos. It's not difficult to walk from the car part by the entrance of the farm path. The information of these stones and slates are well addressed. Definitely worth visiting.

If you like prehistoric history and the enigmatic mystery of stone circles this is an ‘Amazing Place!’. Loved it. I’d never heard of it until my wife and I visited Arran for the first time. Well worth the boat trip from Kintyre!

Easy walk to the stones. Probably one of the best collection of stones I have seen. The area itself is just amazing, very peaceful and tranquil. Would thoroughly recommend a visit. Could have stayed there a lot longer.

Simple walk from car park (although could be busy at times). Simple walk but there can be sheep grazing

Well worth the visit but be aware the first set of stones are only the 1st of many so keep walking another kilometer to reach the man complex of monuments.
Andrew Flood — Google review
Second trip to Arran and first visiting Machrie Moor Standing Stones, we put this off in September due to getting soaked visiting the Kings Caves and guess what, it rained almost nonstop on this trip too, the walk to the stones is easy enough on a farm track, takes no more than twenty minutes where you are greeted with three separate sets of standing stones, worth a visit when touring the Island.
Gary Gilbert — Google review
Incredible walk, especially in the sunshine, especially for little ones. More or less a flat walk but with so many interesting things to see along the way. My kids loved being close to the sheep too. They found it very amusing, which made the walk full of giggles. The standing stones became discussions about our favourite movies, folklore, and myths. I would say go with your little ones, you'll all enjoy the experience.
Christie Cirignaco — Google review
This was fantastic! The drive was fun - such beautiful sights. The parking lot is frightfully small & full for such a popular attraction. Excellent sineage & path upkeep. So many great things to see & experience. I'd reccomended washrooms and a seating area at the parking lot & seating halfway. Lots of seniors & disabled walkers would appreciate this addition. 90% of walkers fit this description. It's not wheelchair friendly. There are a lot of sheep in the fields you walk, so this is NOT dog friendly unless your dog is leashed and not a psychopath. Unfortunately, out of control, madly barking dogs happened while we were there. This is inappropriate. The stones were fabulous & we enjoyed the entire experience. More interpretation and interactive signs/information would be great. Great visit!

Not too far of a walk from the car park to the stones. First thing you come across is the cairn, then a bit later on are the circles. The circles themselves have a magical quality to them, with their surroundings nothing short of beautiful. Lovely ruined farm too, if you want to be a tourist and have a poke about.

Beautiful sunshine made for a lovely walk and there was enough to see along the way to stop our 6 year old complaining too much. The stone circles themselves were impressive sights and I was left feeling as though this was once a far more important location than is let on. By the time we got back to the carpark it was quite busy so we clearly timed out trip well by arriving in the morning. Well worth the visit.

Auchrannie Resort is a luxurious hotel on the Isle of Arran, with three award-winning restaurants. The spa offers treatments such as massage, body wrap and facials. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi and modern bathrooms with free Arran Aromatics toiletries.
What a lovely resort. We stayed in the suite in the hotel for 4 nights for a much needed rest and break from busy lives. This hotel gives excellent service, good facilities within easy reach, delicious food, comfortable beds and quiet peaceful accommodation. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. Every area is stylish, clean and well maintained. The pools are big enough for a really decent swim. We did not use the spa area, and the only criticism is that any treatments need to be booked at least 8 weeks in advance which doesn't fit in with a booking made any later than this. We will definitely be returning to visit the beautiful island of Arran and will choose Auchrannie for our accommodation.

Just returned from a 2 night stay in the spa hotel suites ( room 319 )and it was amazing. Second time visiting the hotel and Auchrannie knocked it out the park again. Room was fantastic very comfortable and spacious bed, very clean and tidy room. The hotel, bar and spa staff where lovely and really friendly nothing was a hassle for them to accommodate me and my girlfriend. The young lad looking after our table in cruise bar Jack, was outstanding Brought a bit of character and laughter and really good vibe while we dined there. Food at brambles in the old building is unbelievably good. Roof top hot tub was amazing highly recommended using it. Aspa treatments highly recommended back neck and shoulder and felt great after it. Swimming pool, sauna and steam room where great. Views around the hotel are great. The hotel overall is great, i highly recommend it and will definitely be back again. Only down fall I didn't book longer.

Good afternoon , You'll see from our rating above what we thought of our recent visit . The staff make this place tick . We couldn't fault any of them . We must though , give a mention to three individuals who are definately in the right jobs . These are --- Amy , from Cruise and Lucas & Cassandra from Brambles at breakfast . It is expensive to stay but worth every penny . A couple of constructive comments . The rooms could do with reading lights beside the beds , the shower heads could be more adjustable and perhaps larger TV's - they are a fair distance from the bed - - in room 2 anyway . Other than these minor details , it is a fabulous place to stay a would certainly return . Thanks to all the staff .

I booked a motor home pitch outstanding quality, great service, stunning location immaculately kept, regular security patrols and a lovely warm welcome, even when booking in after reception has switched to night security. ALL AROUND GREAT SERVICE.

A true nature and wellness getaway! We stayed for a weekend end of October, the staff was very helpful, the rooms were perfect and beds very comfortable. The best part was the calmness of the time spent by the chimney in the bar and the food in Brambles! Best mussels we have ever eaten (and we are living in Belgium!). The spa facility could use some improvement, e.g. extra place to rest, aromatic saunas but overall it was really great activity to do after a day of hiking! Also, it’s a very pet friendly hotel if you are thinking about a holiday with your fury friend.

Absolute pristine hotel. Staff are friendly & attentive. Stunning location with great facilities. Good food & drinks - for me personally I preferred the more casual atmosphere of the spa hotel restaurant. Clean comfortable rooms.

My partner and I booked a room at the spa hotel for a single night and ended up staying an one more as the ferry service was disrupted. On arrival staff were very polite and friendly, the hotel runs a shuttle service which is for me is that be over and above a standard service. Booking in very nice welcoming. We booked a standard double room and they were very nice, clean and fresh, the tvs have Netflix and the beds are comfortable. Over all 10/10 for the price. Liesure Facilities are also exceptional they have 2 pools, saunas, steam rooms, and the areas are finished to very high standard, no expense spared. Again the staff in these areas are a credit to the hotel. They have a gym which is well equipped and fresh and clean badminton, table tennis, tennis, bowls, I'm sure a few other things I've forgotten also. The spa staff were very friendly, little bit of a miscommunication when entering and signing the usual disclaimers when asked specifically why I wasn't wearing a mask but no harm done. My partner and I agreed the treatments were a little limp but not bad. Food & drink, the cruize restaurant was the only one open on our visit. We booked in and the starters were very good, mains not so much and had to return them, however they did offer us complimentary desserts which was a nice gesture, sticky toffee pudding was delicious but the chocolate cake I'm afraid was very dry. Over all could have been better however again the staff were on point and attentive and friendly. Personal opinion based on that meal, over priced a wee bit for the quality of what was being put out. We decided to go out for a drink and were directed by reception to the ormidale, they booked us a taxi which was with us in ten minutes. The atmosphere at the ormidale was great, local place friendly staff and patrons, made feel very welcome. Breakfast the next morning was my only disappointment of the trip, I was asked not to go to the buffet as I do not wear a mask which I wasn't pleased about, so went down to talk to the resort manager/owner I think. Though he was not directly rude, it was quite clear anything I said was of no consequence to the outcome, and I was taken back after being implied as a liar about asking pre booking if there would be any issues with not wearing a mask on arrival, and also the previous days misunderstanding in the spa. However I was nursing a hang over myself and probably could have just sucked it up accepted table service and not rocked the boat. The rest of the day we enjoyed the leisure facilities which again were brilliant and in the evening we tried another local restaurant, the driftwood which has fairly priced friendly and enjoyable. On return we went into the gift shop which offers a good selection of items including a local children's book author which I though was great. The next day we were booked on an additional ferry service which the staff kept us right up to date with any changes of and set up extra early return transport to the terminal. Overall very welcoming friendly well run establishment which appears to be a great thing for locals as well as guests. We would visit again I think if we were back on the island.

We just spent 5 days here and took our daughter, her husband and our 5 month old granddaughter. We had a suite which was fabulous - spacious and modern and very comfortable with super comfy beds. Our daughters room was also lovely. I would say that the overall decor is dark in the hotel - dark brown walls...can feel a bit claustrophobic. My only bug bear would be that after spending a lot of money (eating every night in the hotel) we were charged £8 for a 5 month old.... after a bit of a battle it was waived. They also automatically add a £1 per night donation to their charity to your bill. Great location. Spa and spa staff wonderful.

Loved our stay, which was unfortunately cut short due to a family emergency. All facilities looked amazing, staff were always welcoming, chatty and easy to talk to. Special mention to reception staff who were super helpful and understanding in our extremely fast departure. We will definitely be back and would recommend.

Nice place, good location, but the check in time is extremely late and checkout is very early which means you're paying a lot of money for not much time in the resort. They also ask you to clean absolutely everything after you leave which makes you wonder why is the checkout time so early if they're not even cleaning the place. Seems a bit stingy, doesn't set the best tone and feels hostile.

We booked Auchrannie for our 1 year wedding anniversary and we’re extremely disappointed in the way the hotel handled a certain situation. Or better yet, the way they didn’t handle it. We paid extra money to be upgraded to a more premium room, but received a substandard experience due to someone smoking cigarettes/marijuana on our floor. We initially contacted the front desk as soon as we checked into our room, and we assumed something would have been done about it, but that wasn’t the case. When we came back from our dinner, the smell was even stronger and more pungent to the point that it permeated into our room. We contacted the front desk and they stated that they couldn’t do anything about it as they were unaware of what room it was coming from, and couldn’t wake up guests. As a solution, they offered us an air freshener. I do understand that it’s a challenge to deal with this in the middle of the night, however, if this was handled appropriately when notified at 3pm in the afternoon, then there would be no need to handle this at night time. We’ve been told numerous times that it was out of their control but they could have: •Found out who was smoking during the day time. •Or moved us to a different room. Neither were done. The next morning the hotel manager called us and stated the same thing. Basically reiterating that it’s not a huge issue to them, and didn’t find a need to further investigate the situation. Not the level of service you’d expect from a 4 star hotel on a special day that we only get to celebrate once. This has definitely left a bad taste in our mouths.

The only reason i didnt give 5 stars is because of the price. They used to do great offers and we always took advantage but now its a bit too expensive for an ordinary family to go. It has 2 swimming pools and sauna steam rooms. Food is very good but again has seen a huge increase in recent times. Breakfast used to be a much bigger affair and has been a little scaled back but is still very good. A fantastic games hall is also available with football, basketball, table tennis, tennis and badminton.

Stayed for two nights, Christmas Eve, and Christmas night. The first thing is that the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The service from reception to bars and restaurants was exceptional. The food was outstanding, especially the haddock and poached eggs for breakfast 😋. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I look forward to our next visit. Hopefully, in the near future. Beautiful setting and a real luxury feel to the hotel. Restaurant staff were pleasant but some came across as not quite knowing everything about their menu and took time to serve drinks, even when very few people were in the bar. Great place though, would go back

Stayed here for 2 nights during last week as we had been gifted one night for an Xmas gift. We added on another night and also bid for an upgrade, which we got. The room was great, lovely big soft bed and access to the Executive Lounge and hot tub (which we took advantage of on our first night - the weather was clear, sunny and cool so perfect hot tub weather). The Spa was fantastic - my only regret was not booking treatments in advance because by the time we got there, there wasn't much left. We did manage to get a 50min treatment each and I highly recommend the Indian Head Massage and Facial. We then lounged by the pool, dipping in and out of there, the sauna and the steam room - very relaxing day! On the first night we ate in Cruize, the second we went across to Brambles. The food was excellent in both restaurants and the service first class. The breakfast is brilliant, really tasty and well cooked. I was sorry to leave and have decided that next time will need to be at least 3 nights! Going at this time of the year has it's advantages - it was nice and quiet, which I really prefer over a busy summer season, so I imagine we'll be back in later this year! All the staff were fantastic - really friendly and helpful but shout out to the team members Graham on reception, Tom in Cruize, Heather in the Spa and William in Brambles who we dealt with directly - credit to the team!! Can't wait to come back!

Have had 3 stays here in the Spa building over the last few months with various family and friends. Would highly recommend. The staff are excellent and nothing is any trouble. The hotel just keeps getting better. Just back after a lovely Xmas break. The hotel was decorated beautifully with Xmas trees and sparkly lights everywhere. Unfortunately the weather caused a lot of ferries to be cancelled so the hotel was very quiet. Felt so sorry for them because they had it perfect awaiting all their Xmas guests. That being said, the staff were so attentive. We went over to the main hotel to sit by the fire. They lit the fire for us, kept it fired up, opened up the bar, put out baskets of crisps, lit tea lights on all the tables and dimmed all the lights. The atmosphere was just magical. The food as always was excellent and good value. We were allowed to stay longer in our on departure due to the ferry delays too. Can’t wait to go back again. Thank you Team Auchrannie!

Just back from a beautiful weekend away in Arran. Auchrannie resort is absolutely beautiful and the many different rooms to choose to sit and drink and relax is astonishing. Food was beautiful, drinks were plenty and facilities were lovely. Service from many staff was very friendly and informative. Very quick to get us out the rooms even know we were uncertain about if the ferry's were canceled or not but other than that I couldn't fault the place at all.

I took my hubby to Isle of Arran for two nights as a gift and we stayed in this amazing hotel. We both were blown away but how stunning it was, the service everywhere was totally amazing, our room was beautiful and spacious with big shower , bed was very comfortable as well. On both nights we dined in Brambles seafood grill and food was heaven in your mouth !! Very good drinks selection, food menu was big with so many fabulous choices ! Restaurant is very cosy with beautiful decor. Bar has numerous drink launges with fire places. There is also 3 pools in the resort and plenty of leisure facilities which are super clean and very well maintained. Overall resort is perfect and we didn’t want leave cause we had such a wonderful time !

Well you know how I feel about Facon! I love it. This was a scrumptious vegetarian breakfast (minus the mushroom). The setting with the open fire, and continental buffet was first class. Additionally, all staff working all over the resort had a great energy which transmuted into a joy of service - for this we give the most thanks.

Stingy and unwelcoming. We had to stay an extra night because of the ferry being cancelled. We had already dined in both hotel restaurants and spent over £1000 already at the hotel. So we ordered some Chinese takeaway, which we had to walk 20 min there and 20 back to get. It didn't come with cutlery, but the hotel restaurant said it was policy that they didn't give out cutlery unless with room service. I went to reception, they couldn't help me and suggested I go to the co op. My family of six were tired, had hot food ready to eat, and they wanted me to go walk another 40 minutes to the shop and back for six forks. I went back to the restaurant and said I would order a room service, and asked for some extra forks. The manager there got exasperated with me, like I was being ridiculous for being willing to pay for room service that I didn't want, in order to get forks to eat with. After quoting policy to me again, she went back and found some one-use cutlery. I couldn't believe she hadn't just done that in the first place. Then they asked for our room number when they knew we were upset about the situation but offered nothing to compensate for the trouble when we checked out. They also charged us full price for two breakfasts that final morning, when I got one roll and some fruit and a coffee, you'd think they could have offered us free breakfast at least, due to how upsetting the whole fork fiasco was. Also, the people in the spa were never very nice when we tried to schedule a massage and there were none available. Rude service over all.

The Parlour offers top-notch service and is a must-visit for those looking to indulge in delectable pizzas and delightful ice cream flavors while exploring the area.
Great Pizza, and amazing ice cream. The staff was absolutely great, very lovely and they had great recommendations for us. They also had some veggie/vegan options and sorbets without dairy. An absolute gem!

Amazing pizza - competes with any of the expensive city pizza eateries we have near us. My wife's comment was that it was the best pizza she had ever had! They had a delicious vegan pizza and a gluten free pizza base option which was really good, and much appreciated. The staff were very attentive, pleasant and professional and all was well priced. We liked it so much that we returned for ice cream a few hours later after a hill walk. Very glad we found this place and that they had space - we will definitely be back next time we're on Arran!

Decent pizzas. We visited for a takeout order on a recent trip. Upon entering around 18.45 the staff appeared extremely flustered and cold, and were unsure they could take our order. Ultimately they agreed to take it to pick up at 20:00. Which was fine. Upon returning, everyone was much friendlier. Our pizzas were good and flavoursome. We had also had ice creams from here earlier in the day. The ice creams were great, and they guy serving the ice creams was lovely. Ultimately, the food was good. However, the atmosphere was awkward as the staff appeared stretched with regards to their workload.

Popped in while waiting for the ferry. Staff was helpful and quick to take the order and get to work. It looked like every pizza is made to order with ingredients all on display to see. Within minutes we had our hot, delicious pizza ready for take-away. It was very well made with a good balance of ingredients. Crust was perfect. Really made for a great quick dinner.

Arran Gold ✨ the ice cream of Isle of Arran. I have tasted mango and passion fruit flavours. Both were really nice with rich essences of the fruits itself. I have also noticed there are quite a few places in and around Edinburgh where you could get Arran gold ice cream if you fancy giving it a try. But then if you are visiting Isle of Arran, this is a must thing to do 🥰

Went twice out the 3 days we were in Arran and I honestly wish I didn't. As now I'm going to want there pizza again and unfortunately it's a boat trip away every time I think about it. Beautiful small restaurant. Very very friendly staff and pizza was amazing!!!

So hear me out, I know it's hard to get pizza wrong but it's also hard to get it this right! The place itself is very chilled vibes and the staff are super welcoming. But the food is something else! They were a finalist for the best pizzeria and it's really easy to see why. We shared 2 pizzas: Christmas special and the diavola. Both were mouth wateringly good but the Christmas special was something else, if you're a meat eater then deffo go for this one. But to top it all off there are a number of dips to choose from, one of them being GRAVY MAYO. As a Yorkshire girl and lover of gravy again I can highly recommend. I'm only sad that we are here on our last night and couldn't go back!! We also had Arran ice cream to finish off, the bus off flavour was stunning. Thanks for having us

Super friendly, I dropped in to ask about ordering a pizza for the following day, when they saw how disappointed I was that they'd be closed I was offered a spare to try... It was excellent. Will make sure to catch them next time I'm on the island! Update! I returned and bought pizzas for myself and friends - hugely impressed. Great, fresh, tasty, hot, and too good to save until tomorrow when we felt full 😁 Very easy phone order made perfectly to time.

Outstanding place. Very warm welcome for 2 of us plus baby. Beautiful home made chicken pate was recommended to us and it was delicious. Tapas restaurant
Eighteen69 is a Scottish tapas bar located within Auchrannie House Hotel. It has a unique and pretentious name, offering a different dining experience. Situated in a charming glasshouse, it provides natural light and beautiful views of the hotel's gardens. The restaurant is known for its classier ambiance compared to Brambles Seafood & Grill, which is also housed in the same hotel. With its emphasis on Scottish tapas, Eighteen69 promises to deliver an unforgettable culinary adventure.
Absolutely lovely - all of it. A very nice building in Nice grounds, with cosy seating areas and dining in a large conservatory. Service was good - a friendly waitress and the food came fairly quickly - not quite all together, but we weren't waiting. As it's a tapas style, it was small plates, and with plenty of choice. Everything was lovely, plenty of meat & fish dishes, fewer for veggies. The food was beautifully presented and cooked. 3 main plates and a side of carrots and I was nicely full, :-) The whole place had a feel of being upmarket and tastefully done, well looked after and well run. The best meal out I've had for some time, beaten for me only by Michelin starred dining on Skye.

Never been to Scottish tapas before! We arrived as party of a hen party, much to the dismay of the other diners! But for a group of 13 they split us over 2 tables. It wasn't ideal at first but understandable as the actual eating area isn't huge! The staff were very welcoming and explained the ordering system. We probably over ordered as we were all stuffed by the end but the food was just fantastic. Some at my table didnt enjoy one of the chicken dishes but no complaints over anything else. I'd highly recommend the haggis scotch egg and the cullen skink pie! Cocktails are also lovely! Definitely a place I'd return to when visiting Arran as there's something for everyone and a great variety.

Been once before and there was a dog friendly area. Booked ahead online this time and was shown to the dog friendly lounge, which was basically a room with a couch in it. The dogs ended up in the car as that was a completely unsuitable place to enjoy tapas. Front of house was a bit snippy about it and suggested we move to brambles. In the end we ate there. Food and rest of staff lovely. Leave the dog at home!

I was extremely impressed by Eighteen69. As a vegetarian I had a huge amount of choice, and it was fantastic to see such creative vegetarian/vegan items on the menu instead of the usual. Watermelon sashimi with wasabi foam! I was in heaven. The restaurant has an extremely attentive allergen policy too. Service was impeccable. Some of the best I've ever had. Let me give an example: a lady with limited mobility got up from her seat, and without hesitating the waitress passing her table offered the lady her arm and walked her to the bathroom. I was speechless! Everyone I encountered was wonderful.

We had a gorgeous meal at eighteen69, we ate in the beautiful lounge area with our dog on a sofa and decent sized coffee table which was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff were all friendly and attentive and squeezed us in at the last minute due to some booking confusion. The food was incredible - we had all of the vegan options between 2 of us and even ordered a second serving of the vegan burnt ends, which were incredible! This place certainly has the best vegan selection we found on the island, and we loved every dish! Lastly, the bar staff were incredible, from delicious cocktails, friendly chat, and an excellent selection of local beers and spirits. Overall, we're so glad we stumbled on eighteen69 and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone and will certainly be making a return visit next time we visit Arran. Other reviews have criticised the pricing, but for the quality of the food and service we would have paid more.

Seafood restaurant
The dining experience at Brambles Seafood + Grill was enjoyable, although slightly pricier compared to the nearby Cruize in the spa resort. One downside was the uncomfortably high temperature inside the restaurant, as acknowledged by both a fellow couple and the server. This issue deterred patrons from indulging in desserts and affected their overall perception of the establishment. Despite this setback, the evening was wonderful for a group celebrating a birthday, thanks to delicious food and attentive staff.
We had a wonderful evening with friends for my wife's birthday. The food was great and the staff couldn't have done enough to accommodate us. The young lady in the photograph bringing the cake was a credit to the hotel. We'll done all round.

We ate at Brambles in May 2022 while on holiday on Arran and looking for seafood restaurant to eat at. Brambles is a real hidden gem with fantastic, super friendly service from the staff and a relaxed atmosphere. I'd particularly recommend the Cullen skink for starter and the monkfish curry was sensational, the giant onion bhaji was cooked to perfection and really made the dish a spectacle.

Everything was cooked to absolute perfection and all the meat was so unbelievably soft! The atmosphere in here is lovely! And a hint of luxury.

Overpriced, dinners mixed with items I did not want and could not get without. What I did order was mediocre at best and unsatisfying. Tip to chef if your fish requires a bed of potato's to be any good then it is not any good.
James Mann — Google review
The hotel has the guests staying in the resort in the palm of their hand but it seems cutting corners is chasing the guests away to dine elsewhere sadly. Portion sizes are not adequate and certainly do not reflect the prices charged. My husbands venison portion was shocking. Plate covered in kale to make it look like it was a generous portion. The sweet potato ‘’dauphinoise’ was served cold and didn’t seem to have any cream or garlic. I was served half of a fillet of hake. We didn’t order desserts because we didn’t want to be disappointed again and ate and drank out in Brodick the next 2 nights. If we were served a decent meal we would have happily dined there each night. Another set of guests we spoke to had exactly the same issue. The continental breakfast selection was great but the Scottish breakfast was left too long keeping warm in the kitchen and wasn’t good. We got the haddock and poached egg next 2 days which was decent because it had to be cooked fresh I assume.

This place should be commended for putting out some very tasty food. The soup was obviously tasted and seasoned when made which believe it or not isn't always a priority in some places. Meats were moist and portion sizes were sensible. All on well done to the kitchen staff. Also this place has seats out back with nice view of the hills. Average price and the gardens here are lovely.

THE worst attempt at a fried fish I've ever been served. Well done doesn't cover it, I actually picked it up and rapped it on the table when I was asked why I was returning it. Second attempt wasn't a great deal better. Criminal. The chips were incinerated monstrosities too. Unbelievably bad.

Food was great, a little more expensive than Cruize in the spa resort. The negative was the restaurant was absolutely roasting, we wondered if it was just us, but another couple who were seated 20 minutes after us mentioned to the server how warm it was too. He actually agreed, and said he thought it was too hot too but 'not everyone agrees'. I was actually sitting there in a sweat! I wanted to get a dessert but needed to get out into the cool. It's a shame actually as just the temperature of the restaurant has impacted my opinion on it.

We ate lunch in the Cruize Brasserie today. First impression was one of delight at the bright and beautifully designed room. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our seats in the window. The food was first class, l ate the super salad main with roast chicken. My husband ate the haddock with the most amazing batter. The rhubarb desert was out of this world. The service was very efficient and friendly. Such lovely people! We enjoyed our lunch and are definitely going back.

Amazing place, food was great, service amazing. Staff were so great with our toddler and the soft play was really good. I left my jacket accidentally and staff had it posted too me. Genuinely couldn't ask for more. Lovely place

Amazing restaurant. Food cooked, as expected, to a very high standard consistently. My wife, child and myself were treated to excellent dishes picking different things across 2 different evenings. Service was prompt, efficient and very friendly with our wee family group made to feel welcome at every sitting. Staying in Auchenrannie so was the obvious choice if not picking other Arran eateries but glad we chose this one 😀. Sirloin steak tonight was cooked slightly over for a med rare but the meat was so succulent it could be forgiven a few extra seconds in the pan. It was fantastic. The risotto I had the previous visit was superb in every effort. Rice was soft and succulent with perfectly cooked fish, and salted just to my taste (very lightly). Would look forward to returning if we get the chance.

We were there for a birthday lunch with a mix of age groups including children. Good points Menu looked promising Staff were helpful Bad points Service was slow and children became very very bored. The meal did not live up to expectations, the worst being the burgers. The brioche buns had been seared and tasted like bitter burnt toast. Worst one was the Cruiseburger. £20 of inedible burger in a burnt bun. At least we weren’t charged for that. They did bring replacement buns but they weren’t much better. The pizzas lacked ingredients and flavour. Altogether quite a let down.

The food was fine. My portion of butter chicken was quite small. The kids mac and cheese is half what it used to be. To the point that the kids finished their food before us. Which never happens, and they were still hungry. W

Popped in as a non-resident for breakfast. Great value @ £14.99 for a full hot buffet Scottish breakfast with cold buffet, cereals as well. Pastries and good toasting area also. WiFi available for those who need to update even when on holiday. Food was well cooked with plenty of variety and constantly replenished. Good coffee machines. Pleasant staff who were very attentive. Family atmosphere. Large dining area. Pleasant décor and surroundings. The Auchrannie site is almost colonial as a building and has palm trees outside the entrance I took a couple of photos to show everyone
