Futagoji is a unique 8th-century Buddhist temple located on a peninsula and surrounded by maple forest. It was also used as a hospital during the Edo-era. Though the purified water entrance to the shrine is currently unavailable due to Covid-19, visitors can still pray for their health and that of their family at this temple. During autumn, visitors can enjoy a challenging 2-hour hike up to the peak which offers stunning views of changing leaves.
Very nice temple complex and forest. Must see.

A must visit place in Kunisaki. I visited the place in early Dec tht is in autumn. The autumn leave is amazing.

Beautiful and very unique aspects. Unfortunately the purified water to enter the shrine is unavailable due to covid. But if you wish to pray for health for you and your family, this temple will receive your prays. If you come during the fall season, there is a tough 2 hour hike to the peak and back where you can see a beautiful view of the changing leaves. There are two incredible bridges (one is a natural stone bridge) and the Nioh Guardians are a sight to see. Take your time taking in everything this temple has to offer.

This place is magical. It’s like walking straight into a Ghibli movie. It’s unforgettable. I went in the late Spring so everything was a mossy, vibrant light green. I’m sure it would be beautiful in any season. Must go.

A must visit if you are around Kunisaki. Futago-ji is a congregation of small shrines, temples and numerous sacred artifacts in deep mountains. I visited there in May when leaves were shining with vivid yet subtle light green. Surrounded by deep forests and the serene and profound atmosphere, I literally felt I was spirited away. It was surreal.

Serene Buddhist temple in wooded environs, with ancient trees, rustic wooden gates & stone statues.
Refreshing energy.

Smaller temple than some of it's neighbors, but still worth a visit as this area is very quite and peaceful.

(Translated by Google) The wisdom of Monju if three people come together. I went to the temple where this proverb originated. The stones on the road are very steep, so I don't know if the car with a low height will rub against it. If you head to the Higashi-Sando, you don't have to climb the long stairs, so people with bad legs should go there. All Goshuin are 300 yen, and a Goshuin book is also available for ¥2,000. It's a very splendid temple, so why don't you visit it once? (Translated by Google) The main image is unveiled once every 12 years, so it is recommended for those in the Year of the Rabbit. It was a wonderful temple that I would recommend even to those who don't. Climb up over 100 long stairs to discover the wisdom of Manjushri when three people come together. I worshiped Manjusri Bodhisattva. Those praying can also see Oni Daishi's face. The Higashi-sando road has no stairs and is a slope, so it is not suitable for people with walking problems or pregnant women. It said it was recommended. I wasn't sure if I would be able to climb all the way to the top. (Translated by Google) I went there for the opening of the Gohonzon, which is held once every 12 years. The Gohonzon has a very quiet and peaceful impression, and the temple staff gave us detailed explanations, allowing us to take our time to view it. As for the surrounding environment, I climbed about 200 steps from Omotesando. There is also an approach path closer to the main shrine, but you still have to climb some stairs. The whole precinct had a solemn atmosphere, but the autumn leaves were just changing color, giving it a gorgeous look. There were huge stones and giant trees all along the approach, and since it was a weekday, there weren't many people, making it a very relaxing place. Since it was my first time, I mustered up the courage to climb up the stone steps, which seemed to have about 300 steps. The steps weren't very high, so it was easier to climb than I expected. The monk gave an explanation in front of Manjusri. I wish they had told me about it when I paid the entrance fee, but since I didn't know about it, I was choosing an amulet and the monk coldly told me to come early, so I had mixed feelings about it. Would say it’s pretty much a no-pressure airport. Also when you get to the exit, there’s a person helping passengers buy a bus ticket. There’s a short gap before the bus leaves so you could squeeze in a toilet break or if you need to do something. Pretty neat place.
