Very nice water fall, bridge too! Good parking spots. Worth it for the scenic ride from Beppu alone

A very beautiful waterfall formed from the eruption of Mt Aso iabout 100,000 years ago . It has a drop of around 20 m and width about 120 m . It also carried a nickname “ miniature Niagara Falls of Japan ‘“ due to its horseshoe shape . There’s a suspension bridge near by where you can watch the full view of the waterfall. There’s restaurant supplying good food near by and from the restaurant, there’s a path leading to the basin of the waterfall. Very easy assessable by car . A very magnificent place to spend a few hours .

A beautiful falls, alongside there is a long rope bridge. I went on a rainy day, little slippery condition yet another level of beauty.

Nice waterfall. There are food shops and restaurants around. It is worth a visit if you are around. As we went there with a local people who drove there with his car and we made a stop of 30 minutes only, we don't know if the place is reachable with pubblic transportation and what are the activities that can be done around.

Beautiful waterfalls. Great place for photography and drone shots. There is a bridge also. You can enjoy the view from the bridge. Washroom and free parking available.

Beautiful! The path on the other side of the river is blocked though so you can't (temporarily?) walk the small loop when crossing the hanging bridge.

A very beautiful place with amazing waterfalls. You can go down to get closest spot to take pictures, crossing suspension bridge and walking along the sides with beautiful trees. Take some yummy noodles (next to water wheels), play the water games while enjoying your food. Staffs are nice and warm greetings, they played with my son and keep him entertaining :-)

I though Chinda falls were more impressive even though they don't get as much attention. These were a bit underwhelming compared to Chinda.

Waterfalls
Chinda Falls is a picturesque location situated in a wooded valley, featuring a wide cascading waterfall and the remnants of an early 1900s hydroelectric power plant. While the falls are pleasant, it may not be worth traveling over 100km to see them. However, it is highly recommended to visit during golden hour to capture stunning photographs of this scenic spot.
Great

Lookouts
The Inazumi Underwater Cave is a picturesque location that boasts a distinctive limestone cave submerged in water, alongside an exhibit featuring Buddhist statues and a museum. The cave is sizeable and can be reached via taxi from Miemachi Station, which takes roughly 4020 minutes one way. Visitors can explore the surrounding area beyond the caves within two hours of arriving, and staff are friendly enough to assist with calling a taxi back to the station.
Very cool cave. Pretty big too! It's $40/20 minutes one way in a taxi to get there from Miemachi Station. On site the area is larger than you think, there are other things to see besides just the caves. But you can do it all in 2 hours. The staff there are very nice and will call you a taxi to take you back to the station. You can also go diving in the cave, which we would have done if it wasn't so cold. The gift shop is not very good...I was disappointed there was no cave memorabilia to buy!
Caitlin Meadors — Google review
If you want a nice easy walk through some caves then yes it is nice. Some random outside stuff to look at. Don't expect too much and you will not be disappointed. Definitely out of the way so will need own car but that is a fun adventure in it self. Plus the Harajiri falls are close so make it a day tour.
Roger Moo — Google review
The cave is very eerie. They also started to entertain requests to dive within the cave. The showa display was very fondly remembered if you lived through this era.

One of the best place to visit in Oita ken. The beauty inside the cave is wordless.
Aravinda Wijesinghe — Google review
Definitely need a car to get here. Cost 1300 yen per person for adults. It’s not just a cave, but also a few museums, shops, temples, and more. Only need 2 hours to see everything, so make it a day trip and see Chinda Falls or Harajiri Falls or Lamune Onsen. If you want to book a reservation to scuba dive in the cane, reserve in advance on their website.

(Translated by Google) It is a place where you can enjoy a walk with different elevations. The focus is on maples and ferns, so the season of fresh greenery and autumn leaves is beautiful. It's a major fall foliage spot in Oita, so you might want to be prepared for parking congestion on holidays. On Sundays and holidays during the autumn leaves season, shops selling dango and sweet sake appear.

(Translated by Google) Although the road to get there is narrow, it is a famous park for viewing autumn leaves. Although it was a little past its peak, the carpet of autumn leaves was amazing. There are Fukoji Temple Buddha statues, Oka Castle ruins, Harajiri Falls, etc. in the surrounding area, so I think it would be a good idea to visit them as a set. (Translated by Google) It is written as yaku and read as ``yuujaku''. It seems to be the ruins of a garden at the villa of a chief retainer of the Motooka clan. There are maple, maple, ginkgo, and acorn trees planted densely around a small pond, and their reflections on the water surface like a mirror can be seen from any direction. You can enjoy the autumn leaves. It's not a very big park, and you can walk around the pond in no time. Due to the strong winds a few days ago, half of the leaves were scattered, but the carpet of autumn leaves was still beautiful. Parking is free, but there is a considerable difference in elevation to the pond, so it may be difficult for people with limited mobility. There are benches here and there. Water chestnuts live in the pond, so if you stir the bottom of the pond with a stick, water chestnuts (locally known as demon whistles) will float to the surface. When I was a child, I used to hollow out the inside and use it as a whistle to play with. Nature is abundant, and on this day we encountered a large tree frog. About 20 years ago, I saw my first 7-8cm giant turtle in this pond and haven't seen it since. It is also a wonderful place during the fresh green season from spring to summer.

Fukoji Temple

Buddhist temple
Sights & Landmarks
Fukoji Temple, a Buddhist temple with a historical significance of past battles, has become known for its stunning hydrangea gardens. The temple's chief priest previously worked as a gardener and takes exceptional care of the hydrangeas. Additionally, an unexpected discovery was made that there is also a Makai Buddha on site. Fukoji Temple is connected to Kongobuji Temple on Mt. Koya and surrounded by various types of hydrangeas which visitors can enjoy during their visit.
Lots of hydrangeas in bloom when i visited, it is a historical place where war had been fought ages ago. The hydrangeas are said to be planted for the fallen of that war.

(Translated by Google) It is located deep in the mountains of Asaji Town, Oita Prefecture. It is often used for filming dramas and movies 🎬 The Fudo Myo-o statue carved into the cliff is said to be the best carved stone Buddha in Japan. The first time I saw it was about 20 years ago. At that time, Fudo Myoo stood out more clearly in white, and I was really surprised by its size. The stains seem to be getting darker and harder to see. The hydrangea season is very beautiful, but due to the abnormal weather in recent years, the hydrangea flowers are few or withered, and the scenery is no longer the same every year. Sometimes you can go to the inner temple, so if you have time, you can enjoy the view from that side. It's very quiet and has a good atmosphere, making it a very relaxing place.

There is no admission fee and no fee to view the hydrangeas, so please consider making a slightly larger donation to this temple. The chief priest seems to have worked as a gardener, and seems to be taking care of the hydrangeas. (I saw it on the internet) When I visited, I was surprised to find out that it is connected to Kongobuji Temple on Mt. Koya. Because I had visited there a few years ago. Surrounded by lots of hydrangeas, we went as far as the Magaibutsu. Nowadays there are many types of hydrangeas, so I thought I would be able to enjoy it even more if I had those, so I gave it one star. Even though I have lived in Oita for many years, there are still many things I don't know. I was grateful to visit.
