Phra Nakhon Khiri, also known as Khao Wang, is a historical palace complex situated on top of three elevated peaks in Thailand. The park was completed in 1860 and boasts a national museum with royal furnishings. King Mongkut built the palace and other surrounding structures in 1859 as an escape from Bangkok to pursue his interest in astronomy. The palace showcases a blend of European, Thai, and Chinese architectural styles.
Amazing amazing temple complex on a hill. Not much English but overall still very interesting. Tons of monkeys as well as monks around. You can walk up takes 15 minutes from opposing side to cable car. If you want exercise than dont get scammed by. Able car people because everyone will tell you to go there. You can walk down. 🚡 is 200 baht. The monkeys didn’t seem aggressive but there was an army of them so be careful.

A short cable ride going to the top. The pathway going to the temples are wide and passable but make sure to prepare for a long walk up to the top. An overlooking sight of the town awaits you up. It is a nice view to see but prepare an umbrella or anything to protect you from the heat of the sun. Along the pathway, be careful because there are monkeys. Make sure to keep your hands free of valuable things when you walk thru the pathway.

I loved the visit here. It was a ton of fun to explore the ancient temples and old castle. The history was way cool to learn about as well. Price is 150 baht if you are a foreigner, but if you look Thai or asian, you can get in for 20 baht.
Jared Johnson — Google review
An interesting palace. It is quite a nice experience to visit and understand the living conditions of king. There is no photo allowed within the palace and no shoe is allowed too.

Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park or Khao Wang (Palace Hill) was a former royal residence constructed during the reign of King Rama IV. It is spread out over three separate hilltops with panoramic views of Phetchaburi and the surrounding countryside. The buildings have a mix of Thai, European and Chinese designs. King Rama IV and King Rama V used it as a summer place and a place to entertain important guests We can hike up the hill or take a short cable car ride. The entrance fee is 230 baht per person inclusive of the cable car ride.
CS Chai — Google review
Palace is interesting but they could provide more historic explanations or insights. Nearly no information signs. Cable car ride was fun but they will keep you waiting pretty long times on unbusy days for a ride up or down. Staff is pretty demotivated and uncommonly unfriendly for Thai standards. Even the local monkey was more polite and welcoming. Overall was a good visit, but many things that could be improved.
Taku N — Google review
Fantastically preserved royal palace on the hill top. Check the cable car is running before you visit or it is a long long hike up the mountain. Remember to dress decorously as usual with palaces - covered shoulders etc and you cannot take photos inside - but the views are spectacular over the city below, and imagine the King Rama IV hosting diplomatic missions.
Stuart Boutell — Google review
I enjoyed my visit here. Walk up and down the steps among the plants, flowers at the beautiful jars all kept in a perfect condition.
Reuven Kogan — Google review
Really great place with so much of interest here. The Historic Park can be accessed by a short cable car ride and is actually spread across three summits along the hillside requiring some uphill walking between each. Try to go early, it's very tiring walking this site in 31C heat. What is now the Museum was previously the Palace of a King Rama IV who eatablished this place in 1859, no photos allowed inside. You should visit all parts of this site, the Phra Kaew Noi Temple, Jatuwech Pariphat Hall and the Great White Pagoda. I love the way these buildings have been laid out in the beautiful surroundings of Shrubs and Tropical vegetation. The Cable Car costs 50 Baht return ticket and entrance to the Historic Park is 150 Baht, which includes the Museum/Palace. I travelled up from Hua Hin for the day, but this one place alone was worth the trip.
Miles Macdonald — Google review
This is a must-to-go place if you are in the area. Rama IV's palace is located high on the mountain with a magnificent view over the entire area. You take the cable car up here, and then it's a walk around between the various buildings that are spread over the entire mountain. The trip is not for people with poor walking. In the past there were many wild monkeys which were a bit of a nuisance. They are now gone from the mountain, there are only a few at the foot of the mountain. For some inexplicable reason, photography inside the palace itself is strictly prohibited, foreigners also have to pay 5 times as much to see the palace. This which costs a star. When foreigners have to pay so much extra, maybe you could use some of the money to maintain the buildings, which are crying out for paint
Olaf la Cour — Google review
This summer palace was settled in Kind Rama the fourth 160 years ago on the hill and become the iconic tourist spot of Prtchburi province in present day. The easiest way to go up the hill by the tram cost 80 baht for Thai and 250 baht for non-Thai. It worth to visit here in the morning and late afternoon to avoid the heat in summer.
Duangporn Phulsuksombati — Google review
Wow - what a museum. To my understanding, the place was primarily used by His Majesty Rama 4. You can tour the museum (no photos) to see how his house was decorated. You can walk over to two different wants along the mountain. There’s a cable car to the top, so you don’t have to walk up. Beautiful grounds and lots of walking around the top to see the buildings and the sites. Enjoy! #travelthailand

Nice Palace and views, best to visit in morning when temperatures are love, you can go up by cable car, but is walking over hill side, but enjoy the views, the Palace is a museum unfortunately no picture taking allowed, staf is helpful, service is good

You can use electric tram to go to the museum/palace. The palace is a bit small for foreigners, but it's very beautiful. The walkway around the hill is bumpy but scenery is great.

The Wat Mahathat Worawihan temple, located at the center of Phetchaburi's old town, boasts a magnificent Ayuthaya-style Prang Pagoda adorned with stucco relief crafted by skilled local artisans. The temple's wihahn features early 20th-century murals that, while damaged, are of historical importance. Visitors to the temple can also marvel at other unique features and structures.
Magnificent temple dated back to the early 1700 AD, during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Actually the stupa built date remained unknown but historians presumed it was built around 500-600 AD based on local folklore and historical script. Inside the main hall, you can still find a quite well-preserved painting back to Ayutthaya eras. Some of the smaller halls built later but still keep the original architectural style with some smaller detail like ship-like walls and also elegant facades.

This site is dominated by the impressive large white stone stuppa. You can get into the inner area of this stuppa by looking for one of the open access doors from the surrounding corridors. The Temple Assembly Hall is also open with Buddha Statues placed so that people can "make merit" adding thin gold leaf strips to the Statues. The inner four sides corridor surrounding the Stuppa is lined with Gold Buddha statues behind glass cases. However the glass cases are very mucky and really need to be cleaned.

Wat Mahathat is a must to visit when you go to Phetchaburi the old town. There are many unique features such as the Prang Pagoda with five tips, and one of the most beautiful mural paintings in the country, and much more to see.

Wat Yai Suwannaram is an ancient and exquisite Buddhist temple located in Phetchaburi. It dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom era and boasts intricately carved wooden buildings, century-old murals, and a standing Buddha. The main temple compound is a must-see with its beautiful guilded artwork and carving behind tall wooden doors. The pavilion gate has an interesting history where soldiers attempted to break in but were unsuccessful despite using an ax.
Fascinating ancient temple, over400 years old. Very well preserved. Im surprised that it’s not discovered that much by tourists, it’s a must see location for history lovers. Also great location for photographers… there is plenty of spaces for parking so it’s quite convenient
oytun — Google review
This temple had the history about the gate of the pavilion. The story said that the soldiers from the opposite side tried to get inside the pavilion. The used the ax attacking the pavilion gate but could not be successful. The army quit and left the temple.

As all the other Buddhist temples are always worth a visit. Remember to remove your shoes before entering and having a look. Some very old paintings, so I used my DSLR to capture these, my phone camera did not do it justice.

Explored the captivating Wat Yai Sunnawaram, an architectural gem hailing from the Ayutthaya era, with a venerable history spanning 665 years. The temple’s alluring teak wood architecture lends it an enduring charm, inviting visitors into a journey through time. Delving into its history, the door reveals a gripping tale of resilience. During a Burmese invasion, soldiers attempted to breach it, driven by the desire to access the treasures stored by the last Thai king of the Ayutthaya era. Despite wielding an axe, they only managed to create a hole, approximately the size of a feet 38, as evidenced in my video. Below the hole, a distinctive crack runs down the door, underscoring its steadfast strength. According to the monk, the treasures within remained untouched, believed to be under the protection of the Buddha enshrined within the temple. Adding to its historical significance, Wat Yai Sunnawaram became a temporary sanctuary for King Rama IX upon his passing, housing his revered remains before the solemn ceremony of cremation. This temple stands as both a guardian of the past and a witness to the contemporary rites of royalty. Exploring this temple was a true privilege, and the narratives shared took me on a captivating journey, immersing me in a world from nearly 300 years ago. The depth of history and cultural tales added an extra layer of appreciation to the visit.

This temple look so clean, all houses are renovated, i guess, it's a temple for girl monks, because I only saw them there. Very cool architecture.

This is one of the oldest and most beautiful Temples in Phetchaburi dating back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom period. Lovely old wooden buildings make up a part of this site. The main enclosed Temple compound mustn't be missed, only one way in through a "spray" doorway for decontamination. Inside the main Temple make sure they close the tall wooden door so you can see the beautiful guilded artwork and carving.
Miles Macdonald — Google review
The elegant and valuable art in the Ayutthaya period combined with Phetchaburi makes it an outstanding work. There is a history of every piece of work. Nowadays, there is an art gallery by a team of passionate and aspiring artists who take pictures of knowledge and historical stories for those who are interested in learning science and art in the past.

Well-preserved ancient temple from Ayutthaya period. Less people than I expected. Must visit when you come to Phetchaburi.

Wat Yai Suwannaram Worawihan, or commonly known as Wat Yai, is a third-class royal monastery of the second grade, Voraviharn. Previously it was called "Wat Noi Pak Tai". It is assumed that the establishment of the temple took place when Ayutthaya was the capital city of Thailand. In one of the royal letters written by Phrabat Somdet Phra Chulachomklao Chaoyuhua(King Rama V of Rattanakosin Era), the king mentioned that "the mural painting and other artistic works in the ordination hall must have been created more than 300 years ago" (400 years until the present time). Etymologically speaking, Wat Yai got its name from the vast area of 20 Rai.
Kullaphut Sene — Google review
I have to find a chance to go to this place everytime when comeback to Phetchaburi province. Inside the temple is filled with many old and precious things such as old Buddhist churches, murals, ancient Dharma pulpit shaped like movable throne located in temple hall, etc. Suggest that if visiting Phetchaburi you must not miss this temple.

Phra Ram Ratchaniwet, also known as Wang Ban Puen, is a historic building that was previously used as a school and barracks. Now operated by the Royal Thai Army as a museum, the 110-year-old palace has been restored to its former glory. The architecture combines elements of German design with art deco interior features. While some areas are beautiful and of interest, there are also malevolent-looking cherubs on the staircase. Unfortunately, photography inside the museum is currently prohibited.
This is commonly known as Ban Puen Palace, and is a former royal palace. Now it serves as a museum and is operated by the Royal Thai Army. It is free admission. Very elegant, 20th century European-style palace, with beautiful furniture and decoration throughout. Outdoor gardens are very well-maintained as well. Historical events are listed in many areas, but some are written only in Thai language. You must go through the gate manned by an Army soldier, and leave your ID/passport in exchange for a parking permit. No photos are allowed inside the building, and the washrooms are outside in a separate building. (I recommend bringing your own tissues, as they do not provide them)

A very interesting palace built for Rama 5 in 1915 by a German architect. The interior and exterior is all of German style. You can go inside and walk around and see the king’s and queen’s bedrooms and the prince’s and princess’s bedrooms the toilets and king’s office. Great place for a quick stop off.

Nice place to visit. The anicent palace of the king rama VI decarated with western style. But prohit it take a photo inaide.

Interesting disused palace, a former holiday home of the previous King, built in European style. It is inside a military base, so you have to leave your passport at the gate and collect when you leave. The soldiers were friendly so I didn't feel intimidated. The staff at the palace were friendly, and you only need to make a small donation to look round as there is no set ticket price. Make sure you dress modestly as it is a site connected to royalty. There is not much left inside the palace, but it is special as you are free to explore. No photos allowed inside.

Don't expect much and you will not be disappointed. The grounds were well maintained . The furniture has mostly been removed , no paintings on the walls .There are information boards explaining some of the history and what individual rooms were used for .Entrance IS FREE.there were no monkeys .You will be asked to leave your passport at the security gate . ( 2 of us and left one ID ) .No photos are allowed to be taken inside.

Considering this 110-year-old palace was by turns used as a barracks and a school, it has been well restored. The combination of German architecture and art deco interior are interesting and in places beautiful, though the cherubs on the staircase look a tad malevolent. Sadly, photography indoors is now forbidden.
Alasdair Forbes — Google review
Located inside a military compound, you will need to hand over an ID to receive an entry permit. This is the House of the family of Rama V which construction started in 1910, the year he died, and finished 6 years later. It's not opulent for our time but must've been quite the villa back then. You can visit most of it including the prince and the Queen bedrooms. Taking pictures inside is forbidden but not really enforced. Outside the school field trip which left quite hastly we were the sole visitors. The paint really needs refreshing and the exhibits are quite damaged. This place could still be a must see if it received more love.
DominiQC Asean — Google review
Originally called "Wang Ban Pun", the European style palace is situated to the south of the town. The construction began in 1909 at the command of King Rama V to be his rainy season palace. A German architect, Mr. Karl Deurring designed the palace, while Admiral HRH Prince Boriphat of Nakhonsawan and HRH Prince Damrong supervised the construction. The construction was completed in 1916 in the reign of King Rama VI. The place was used to welcome and accommodate state visitors during the reign of King Rama VI.

Wat Kamphaeng Laeng is a historic site in Petchaburi, Thailand, showcasing southern Khmer architecture. Dating back to the 12th century, it was initially a Hindu temple before being transformed into a Buddhist sanctuary during the Ayutthaya kingdom. The complex features a central prang and four smaller surrounding ones, with some containing Hindu and Buddha images. Despite its relatively small size, the ruins hold significant historical value and offer information boards describing their architecture.
We stumbled upon this temple after lunch & before continuing our journey to Hua Hin. Absolutely mind-blowing! Felt like we came to a mini angkor wat. Worth visiting!

Beautiful historic temple, with 4 buildings from the 13th century built in Khmer style. There are also more modern Thai style buildings in the complex. It was free to enter, and although the dogs bark when you enter they won't cause you any further problems if you speak calmly with them. There are also free toilets here.
Fern Gleeson — Google review
This place is worth a brief visit because whilst it isn't a large site, the ruins here are of historic importance. They date back to 13th Century Khmer culture. Each of the buildings have information boards (English Translation) describing the architecture of each Tower, all of them contructed using laterite. A more modern Temple surrounds this ancient site, but you're dissuaded from entering by "dog warning" signs.

Extensive menu, but the dishes are somewhat bland; stir-fried morning glory was rather tasteless, dry green curry had fish balls with pieces of egg inside and (it was basically a regular curry sauce, just much less of it; this is not what dry curry should be). OUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANT FROM OUR HONEYMOON TRIP. It was so good that we went there 4 times in 3 days! STAFF - super sweet and friendly. Helped us choose dishes from the menu AND drove us to our hotel when we couldn't get find a taxi! FOOD - the best! We enjoyed the tempura veg and shrimp with a dipping sauce, the morning glory, the curries (oh the curries!), fermented shrimp paste (we were informed that it is a spicy, acquired taste that most foreigners dislike...and I can see why, but I am so pleased I tried it), palm cake wrapped in banana leaf and my favourite - the spicy mango salad. It was AMAZING!!! Not expensive. SETTING - on the river, option of a rooftop terrace. Wooden , traditional interior. So many people we saw here were repeat customers. This place truly is a hidden gem. On my next trip to Thailand I will visit this city just to eat here!

Pen Prik Ped Noodles is a popular Thai-style restaurant known for its bustling atmosphere and roadside seating. The eatery offers a variety of noodle soups and fried-noodle dishes, all freshly prepared as you wait. Located across from Wat Yai Suwannaram, the small but busy restaurant may require some waiting time for a table. While service can be brisk due to its popularity, the food is above average in taste and reasonably priced.
You have to know the rule before -Do not use the mobile phone between take the noodle -The pet not allowed. -Accept cash only. -order dry noodle take more than time 30 minutes. If you accept the rule you will get the intendtion, cleanliness and wonderful tasty.

Good pork noodle with spicy sauce. But it takes ages ordering and waiting for food. Also I can’t do take home cause I had to order it at least one day before!!!! Lots of queue and it hard to find parking space. Recommended to park your car in the alley behind or at the temple across the street

The waiter are fierce as expected which is the result of their popularity. Their service is not an issue though if you just accept things as they are and not expecting something they are not. The taste was above average and their price are affordable. You might enjoy it more if you were a meat lover. The taste lean on a sweeter side which is also to be expected in Petchaburi. Overall we enjoyed it. Except the lack of parking space.

This place did not meet the high expectations we had. Horrible slow service and waitress had to come back several times to ask for our orders again. Quite ridiculous rules, and food's taste was not worth the 30 minute wait. No matter how many condiments and sauces were added, the taste was still unbearable. There were also too many bean sprouts that made it impossible to finish. The only good thing about eating here was the amount of meat they gave us.

The food was fresh, tender and very delicious. Everything was homemade even the pasta. I was celebrating my birthday and had brought a cake with me. The owner was very kind and even included 5 different flavors of ice cream for free. Everything that my fiance and I ordered came out and tasted amazing. It was a great change to have Italian food. I would visit again.

Good pasta dishes. We had wasabi soup, lasagna, pasta bolognese, beef tenderloin, grilled chicken with pasta. All is delicious. Waffle was also very good. Good western food for a change after having a lot of Thai seafood in the area.

Recommended as they are very nice here and make a lovely breakfast. Quiet with little to bother you except monkeys. Be careful if your things and you may want to take a stick with you if you walk outside incase you see aggressive monkeys or dogs.

Traditional Thai Desserts with some local menus which only available in Petchburi, such as Jackfruit stuffed with Sticky Rice, Candied Durian, etc. Prices are slighly expensive compare to other desserts shop in the area.
