Sensō-ji

Sacred & Religious Sites
Sensō-ji, Tokyo's oldest temple, was constructed in 645 to honor Kannon, the goddess of mercy. It is located in Asakusa, a spiritual and historical center of the city. The temple features a 3.3-meter-high red paper lantern and incense believed to have healing properties. Surrounding the temple is a vibrant street market offering various traditional items for sale.
Beautiful temple The shopping street and district around it are full of life. There are plenty of restaurants to dine at, cafes to eat at, shops to buy souvenirs from.. if you like Shiba, I'd recommend checking out one of the Shiba Cafe nearby Note, it's extremely crowded on New Years, and entering the temple to pray can easily take an hour or more. Enjoy!

Awesome place to go see. A must go destination in Tokyo. It does get very busy so I recommend taking the train but there is parking available nearby too. So many cool thing to see here and do. A great day trip location. So many shops and restaurants and neat things to take pictures of.

Absolutely one of my favorite spots in Tokyo. Yes, very touristy but if you want iconic photos I'd argue this is THE spot for them. Lots of food and trinket vendors in the area and if you time it well, you may catch a local celebration which brings even more energy and food vendors to the area! As a bonus, you can purchase a range of blessings inside the temple. There are a range of Wonderful and historical items to view in this general area as well.

We went there at 8am as it is a stone away from our accommodation. It was raining that morning so maybe that is the reason why only a few tourists are there, and we pass by the stores that mostly close at that time. Lovely to see the intricate connection details, the big lantern, pagoda, and the main temple. After a short tour, we decided to buy some snacks that are filled with red beans and it was delicious. When we are heading outside the temple at 9am, we were greeted by the big influx of tourist.

The place was crowded but it was well worth it. Many stone carvings and statues around the grounds. There were lots of stands selling things or all types statues, mask, food and other souvenir worthy things. The temple itself was beautiful. A whole lotta red. You can pray or give thanks and they sell charms inside too.
Don Carrion — Google review
The temple buildings and grounds are beautiful. The architecture is stunning, grounds immaculate, and vibe amazing for Tokyo. Coming from the main gate, you go through many vendors selling food, drinks, and souvenirs before you get to the temple itself. It's an extremely touristy in that area, and after early morning, it gets extremely busy and crowded. After you pass the crowds in the street market, it gets quieter so you can enjoy the temple itself more. So whether you go for the street vendor atmosphere or the temple itself, it's definitely worth a visit.

Visited before during the day in the past, felt like I was drifting in a sea of people, ha ha. This time I visited at night on a weekday and it was awesome; fewer people and the structures were far more vivid at night under both spotlight and moonlight. Surrounded by markets and restaurants, cool place for a late night stroll. Pagoda was my favourite structure overall, seemed like fewer people were interested in it for some reason.

Beautiful and must not be missed on your Tokyo trip. Best if you go early in the morning to avoid congestion at the temple. Arrive by 8am to enjoy and watch the shops open and begin to fill. Plan to spend a few hours here enjoying the architecture, traditions, food and other vendors. You will not be disappointed.

Sensoji is a very famous temple in Tokyo. Everyone knows this place. I often go to this place to shop at the shops around the temple or to take pictures with the beautiful scenery here. This place is always crowded with visitors especially on holidays. Many Japanese people come to pray at the shrine here. But for a foreigner like me, this place has become a favorite tourist spot in Tokyo.

This temple is a good start for new tourist to Japan. A long shopping street leading to the temple is nice for photos or souvenirs. sellers are nice, can speak English, offer Japanese stuff. The surrounding is full of restaurant and all kinds of Japanese food and desserts. Tourists are crowded in the front of the temple but getting inside will give you more air and better photos. You can also see Tokyo Tower from here.

One of the famous places must go in Tokyo, Japan. The shrine is crowded all the time; along the way to the main shrine, you will find souvenir shops where people shops for snacks and window shopping. Also, Japanese wears by travelers are also popular there. The shrine inside is less crowded and travelers are pay respect and meditation pray there for happiness and etc.

Very crowded and popular tourist attraction. I went on the weekend and I am sure it was much busier than on a weekday. I came by train and the station was very close and convenient and very crowded. Many tourists were dressed in traditional Japanese kimonos which made the experience particularly nice. The temple itself is very beautiful. There were a lot of people burning incense which I assume has some religious significance. Also there are these boxes that have fortune telling papers. You shake a container and randomly pull a stick out of it which has a number which tells you which drawer to get your fortune. The adjacent shopping area has a huge selection of shops selling traditional Japanese souvenirs and products. Also many restaurants offering primarily Japanese cuisine including Sushi restaurants. This tourist attraction is well worth a visit for the ambience alone but also for shopping and eating.

It was my first time at this beautiful temple. I was super busy, lots of people came to visit and definitely could see why. There were lots of small shops and food stalls. When you made it to the temple it was stunning. There was also lots of shine and a beautiful little garden you can walk through. I would definitely recommend coming to see this temple. Five out of five

You guys probably already know that this is an amazing great tourist attraction to visit. Even though the vendors are closed in the evening or at night, I recommend coming here at night as the shrine and temples are nicely lit and it is just different vibe compared to during the day. It is also less crowded for all the introverts who just want to enjoy a stroll. If you come at night when the shops are closed, you can see the mural paintings depicting the festivities that occur in the shrine throughout time. It is pretty cool.
GANGIS — Google review
This beautiful temple is not just a cultural marvel but also a hub for local businesses. Street like Food stalls to charming souvenir shops, it's a delightful marketplace. Consider renting a kimono for an immersive experience. We explored day and night; the crowd was manageable, and lines were short. The temple grounds are free, with stunning landscaping. While there's a fee for full temple access, the partial view is beautiful. A must-visit iconic spot for tourists in Tokyo, blending tradition with commerce.

An iconic location for Tokyo. A must visit for tourists. Tons of small shops around that sell food and goodies. You have to expect crowds. We went in the late evening, so we couldn’t get inside. Everything is beautiful and well maintained. You can pay 100 yens for trying a fortune. If you get a bad fortune, just fold it and tie it to the string. On a nice day you can see the Tokyo sky tree from there too.

It’s one of the main tourist attractions in Tokyo. Beautifully constructed temple in Tokyo. Lots of shops are available on both sides of the lane in the temple. It’s also called as Asakusa temple. Night view is really awesome. During Sakura season it’s a delight to see the beauty. It’s of the picturesque spots in Tokyo. Every photographer in Tokyo will atleast have 50-100 pics of Sensoji temple. It’s the first temple I visited in Tokyo. So I personally like this place. A must visit temple to any foreigner in Tokyo who believes in god.

It’s even more amazing at night. A definite must see for any traveler/tourist when visiting Tokyo. So many cool shops around the temple as well. Great place for photo opportunities and enjoying the whole Japanese experience.
Matthew Pascual — Google review
Beautiful Buddhist temple, centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. Get there early in the day for a less crowded experience, however before 10/10.30AM you’ll likely find most of the shops still closed. You’ll find public restrooms and some food stalls. Food isn’t great but not bad either.
Ricardo Santos — Google review
We came here ourselves and not with a tour group. This temple and the whole complex is bigger than we realised, and it was definitely worth coming to see and so remarkable. There were just far too many people at the main gate and along the main street leading to the main great. With the benefit of hindsight, we should have come here early in the day, and not mid afternoon. Absolutely stunning and definitely worth seeing, but be prepared for all the people.

During my visit to Tokyo, Japan in 2019. I had a wonderful time visiting and exploring the various cultural opportunities the country provided. Ranging from historical landmarks, to temples, to delicious food stalls and souvenir shops that offer a variety of goodies to take back home.

This place was bigger than I expected. We visited here on a National Holiday. It was crowded but we managed to move around easily. You can visit this place in 30 minutes or longer depending on the time you have. We spent about an hour here and I felt it was plenty of time. It's worth the visit, and there is no entry fee.
Judy McConnell — Google review
I love this place. It’s so relaxing and peaceful. There’s also many stores surrounding the temple where you can enjoy buying food, souvenirs, or just walking around. It remind me of a anime and feels unreal. We went late at night and there was still a lot of people and the surrounding of this temple have so much late lights restaurants. I love the atmosphere and highly recommend coming here.
My Lam — Google review
Cool place, but it's a tourist trap. You need a paid guide to tell you where you can buy things at cheaper prices. The gates and overall market is cool, but not alike any other "Chinese town" (obviously this is japanese) from anywhere. Well on that point, I wish we had "Japanese towns" everywhere.
Cesar Alejandro Arias Canto — Google review
The must visit place in Tokyo in my opinion. This whole area is worth spending a day in. A perfect mix of old, and new. You will be amazed at the age and beauty here. This is what I thought Japan would be like. It is a little crowded but everyone was so nice and helpful. Shops everywhere with awesome souvenirs at every price range. You are missing out if you don't go here. Enjoy and best wishes.

The temple is truly majestic! Its grand, solid architecture and vibrant colors stand out. Particularly famous for its colossal lanterns at the entrance, guiding visitors into the magnificent hall. Surrounding the temple are numerous shops offering food and various trinkets. An enjoyable activity is dressing up in a Kimono and strolling toward the temple for picturesque moments. You'll find several excellent rental shops near the entrance. Located just a 10-minute walk from the rail station, plan for 1-2 hours to explore the temple and its surroundings. If you're opting for the Kimono experience, allocate a generous 3-4 hours for a leisurely stroll. They also offer handwritten goshuin, making it a definite must-visit.

Very busy with lots of families. But honestly, it just gave off a lively experience. There are market shops and little food stalls along the main walkway. The temple is simply impressive. Beautiful architecture. I loved reading the signs about the history. Finding out that I had a “regular fortune” for ¥100 was honestly hilarious and nothing short of expected. Overall, it was a great experience and I definitely recommend.
Kevin Jiles — Google review
Came in the morning and night, and was surprised at how different the vibes are. Hands down I liked night better as it’s more tranquil and more temple vibes compared to morning where there are so many tour groups even though we came at 9am. The temple looks nice when lit up too. Maybe it’s nicer if the sky is clear as we went on a cloudy day. See pictures for comparison. Can go there both morning and night to see the difference for yourself.
Seah Jia Hui — Google review
Beautiful temple providing a nice oasis amidst the bustling Tokyo city, but extremely packed with tourists. The otherwise peaceful nature of the temples and the garden are not noticeable amongst the chaotic crowds jostling for the best angle for a photo op. Leading up to and encircling the temple grounds are vendors galore - food, snacks, trinkets, souvenirs, you name it. I stopped and got some street food nearby which was pretty good and capped my visit to Asakusa by walking along the waterway to admire the cherry blossom trees. As long as you don’t mind the crazy crowds, then this is a must-see spot in Tokyo.
Matt Smith — Google review
Went here early morning November 2023. The best time to go is really early in the day, otherwise it would be packed and difficult to go through. Lots of shops leading up to the temple but they look like tourist traps. The temple though is beautiful, even the gardens outside. A bit further out is a memorial garden dedicated to haiku poets.

Must visit shrine in Tokyo! It's really crowded during the day, but it didn't really bother us very much. I also really recommend going at night, where the shrine is lit up beautifully. There's also food stalls and shop in the streets around the shrine and the area is very beautiful. Don't miss this place when coming to Tokyo!!

Must-go place in Tokyo. Even though the place was extremely crowded, we enjoyed the Asakusa temples and neighborhood. Along the way you will find many unique vendors and fun eateries. So many people walked around with beautiful kimono. Highly recommend this place to visit while in Tokyo.
Amy Kang — Google review
My hubby and I visited the temple during the day and at night. If you want to see the temple without the crowds (and be able to read the signs), I'd highly recommend going early in the morning (before 8am) or at night. It's an incredible temple and regardless of your religious or spiritual views, it will be worth the visit.
Tash Leam — Google review
The temple as well as the Asakusa neighborhood are beautiful, although the latter can feel a bit touristy. It is a very popular destination in Tokyo, a must see, so even though we arrived relatively early (8 AM), the place was already pretty crowded making it hard to take good photos and enjoy the site. It probably didn't help that it was on a week-end, during cherry blossom season. By 10 AM, the place was so packed that it was hard to move around, let alone take any photos. So lesson learn, better arrive early to beat the crowd and have a more pleasant experience.

Yomiuri Land

Mentioned on
Amusement park
Yomiuri Land is a popular amusement park in Tokyo that attracts both locals and tourists. It features thrilling rides like the Bandit roller coaster and Japan's first standing loop coaster, MOMOnGA, as well as numerous kid-friendly attractions. The annual "Jewellumination" event from October to April lights up the entire park with colorful displays.
Great amusement park close to Yokohama! The park was really busy during my visit. The park was clean, plenty of food and shops open, and the staff was nice.

It was a very big park with a variety of rides. There are rides for both kids and adults so it was fun going with my friends. The lights that lit up at night were beautiful. I gave it a 4/5 because although it was very fun, it was very expensive. If you visit Tokyo, I recommend this park.

(Translated by Google) My daughter, grandson, and I arrived around 3pm on January 21, 2020. My daughter and I came here about 10 years ago on a return bus tour. At that time, the purpose was illumination. This time, I have a 2-year-old grandson, so I decided to enjoy not only the illuminations, but also rides, a sea lion show, dinner, etc. at my daughter's invitation. It was raining in the morning, but it stopped by noon, so I'm relieved. When I entered the park, I was surprised to see so many people wearing cosplay, and even though it was after the rain, it was quite crowded. Since he is 2 years old, the rides he wants to ride are limited and he only enjoyed two types. At the sea lion show, he just stared at the sea lion at first, but when a large sea lion appeared, he asked mommy to hold him, and he was able to see the sea lion up close, and I was satisfied with his versatile skills. The illuminations are so beautiful that you never get tired of seeing them. We had a great time in the park for 5 hours watching and eating. P fare: Regular car 2000 yen My daughter bought tickets in advance.

Spectacular place but there are some issues with it. #1 bring cash , they don't accept credit or phone app payment even Suika or other IC cards. #2 if you have a free entry ticket, you have to either repurchase a normal entry ticket to be able to get into rides or buy a paper coupon for each ride when Inside the theme park. The purchase of those coupons or ride tickets is at one of the vending machines around the park, in cash of course, about an additional 300yen each per ride per person. Kids under 2 don't need a ride ticket. #3 lines. Like any theme park, the most interesting rides and things to do have about 30 minutes to an hour long queue. So don't miss buying the coupons if you're on a "free" entry pass. To make things easier just buy a normal ticket with a - fast pass. Makes it more expensive but during the light up months it's worth it to visit at least once.

Good old amusement park since 1960s. Too many people making line for most of ride on weekend or holiday season (have to wait 30-60min) , I suggest to visit there on weekday if could. And school kids might have more fun as many fun ride says “ For more than 120cm tall”

We went to their winter illumination. A zillion lights on everything. Magical and beautiful. Rides all working, most for younger kids, but two serious roller coasters. Also a great water show in the evening with fountains moving to the music. Twice a night, human dancers do a number with the fountains and music. From the subway you can take the aerial ropeway up the hill. Low cost transport up the hill.

(Translated by Google) Even if there are no flashy roller coasters or major attractions, this is an amusement park that can be enjoyed by everyone from small children to adults, families, and friends. It is located on top of Inagi Hill, and when you ride the top of Bandit or the Ferris wheel, you can see the buildings of the city center in the distance, and the scenery is beautiful. During the winter, illuminations begin at 4pm, and the park is bathed in beautiful light. The fountain show is elaborate and impressive every year. The amusement park is located in the suburbs, so it is convenient to go by car, but the parking fee is 2000 yen. With the diversification of leisure activities, the number of traditional amusement parks is gradually decreasing, so it is an amusement park that I would like to see continue for as long as possible.

Went in with a free entrance for their 60th anniversary. These photos were taken at night and I would post the photos for daytime in the photo updates section. The night time is the better time to come because the lights are so beautiful. Didn’t get to try any rides but the park is big enough to just explore especially if you will also visit Hana Biyori.
Bernadette Estepa (Gaijin Guide) — Google review
Its most attractive and popular feature isn’t all the roller coasters. It’s the light-up from late fall to winter. Popular among families, friends and couples. Almost the entire amusement park is decorated with beautiful lights. There are lots of food stands as well. If you are only interested in enjoying the light, they got the entrance ticket and you can go there cheaper. I would recommend to go there on a weekday which I did. There are still people but it’s not so crowded.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this theme park but was pleasantly surprised. We went in at 3pm on a "after pass" so reduced price entry but were able to have a fun afternoon and evening in both the theme park and then at the Wai waterpark on the same site. The theme park wasn't busy at all - we went during a weekday - and only queued for about 15 minutes for the most popular rides. Some rides had no queue. The waterpark was busier but not absolutely rammed so there was space to set up a camp and enjoy the pools and waterslides. Thoroughly recommend!
Benjamin Brook — Google review
For a relatively reasonable entrance this place was lots of fun. We weren't the only ones. In true Japan fashion the place was full, even on a school weekday. For someone used to American water parks where coolers, tents and the like are banned here they appear to be welcomed and it looked more like an overfilled campground. Of course also in true Japanese fashion everyone was polite, civil and respectful. The good first: Food prices were reasonable, they had a fun show while cleaning the pools at 5:15pm, we were able to find a place in the shade and lockers were plentiful and free (though hardly used). The bad: for a park pass there were only 2 adult slides included. The other one you had to pay extra for. The wave pool, while fun, was a little short for me and the lazy river was very congested. In summary: We had a great time it was well worth the trip. Great for families during the day, evening felt more like a social gathering place to show off cute swimsuits.

Super fun. Facilities in a good condition. Staff are nice. Support English and Korean for some games. Many restaurant choice here. VR games are excellent. The only cons is waiting time is too long during holiday. Highly recommend buy the One-day pass.

You can take a gondola from the station up to the entrance. Don't wait for the last gondola to go back down. You can buy tickets for single attractions or a day pass with or without the waterpark. You should research what option suita you best. It's not as spectacular as the two major theme parks in Japan but you dont have to queue nearly as long here. The rollercoaster was more thrilling than I thought and the swing boat should give you a kick too. The rest is more family friendly and chill. The food options are pretty good, alltogether very enjoyable. The water park was great too. It's very different from an onsen, it's much more western. It has slides, a wave pool with light and music shows, a pool with a current, a regular pool, and a children's pool. They are nicely arranged. The ground is covered in tartan, no earth or lawn at all. I have to say most people where just there for taking pictures in swim wear, it was a bit sad. People were having full on photoshoot on the edges of the pools, not an ideal atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) There are attractions that both adults and children can ride, and you can enjoy them all day long. A one-day pass (admission fee + unlimited rides) was 5,800 yen for adults and 4,000 yen for elementary school students. If you buy from Yomiuriland's official website, you can get it for a few hundred yen off, so it's a good deal. The food was plentiful and delicious. I went there during my children's winter vacation, and it was empty from morning to evening, so I was able to ride the attractions with little wait time, but at night, it was extremely crowded with people who had come to see the illuminations. It was so beautiful that I could understand why so many people came for the illuminations. There is a parking lot, a bus stop in front of the building, and a 7th station within walking distance.

This is a nice place to bring your children, the rides are fair for all ages, there is some amusement for the adults but most of the amusement is for children. I went at a later time during the evening to check out the lighting decorations, It was nice. I recommend going at an earlier time to squeeze more amusement out for your time at the park. The parking was adequate and creative, ticket prices are more then fair for what you get in terms of entertainment and amusement. Parking prices are up to 2000 yen per vehicle, depending on the size of vehicle. (I recommend coming with a loaded car to save money or use pubic transportation.) There is plenty of food options nothing to extravagant, but it is "very" affordable and satisfying. (They even have a Starbucks for those looking to recharge their batteries after the evening starts to whine down) I really didn't get to experience the majority of the park due to not arriving at a more reasonable time. I believe its worth a second trip though. The only thing I wish they had as an offer are express passes for rides or a scheduled ticket line. But again it is a responsable amusement park and I'm sure your kids will love it and hold memories.

Skip disneyland, this is the place to be. Cheaper (by a lot), more attractions, beautiful to look at, whole place lights up at night. There is something for everyone, pay for rides separately or get an unlimited rides pass. Friday afternoon (3pm-8pm), first week of April, wait times were averaging between 15-60mins for everything popular (roller-coaster and thrill rides)

Yatsu Rose Garden is a serene park showcasing a diverse assortment of blooming roses located near Yatsu Station. It is the smaller of two rose gardens in the area but still offers a pleasant experience for flower enthusiasts with its charming pathways, fountains and alluring fragrances. Adjacent to it lies Yatsu Higata, a Ramsar protected marsh sanctuary which makes it an ideal destination for nature lovers who can spend half-day exploring both sites.
They have so many types of roses and what is great, they have new roses too, not only the old classic ones that you see in every park. The newest section is autism back of the park behind the big bushes, they have many WABARA roses there. They also sell potted roses but not cheap. On a sunny day it gets crowded at the ticket gate you must line up some 15 minutes especially in high season. In winter they have some Pro Staff with Rose trimming lessons that you can attend for free just buy the entrance ticket. You can find such lessons ontl their website. And after watching the garden you can have a delicious Indian lunch at the restaurant along the small central shopping alley towards the Yatsu station. Will definitely go again, half as expensive as Keisei Baraen and they have newest roses too!!

A good place to see shorebirds. There is also a bird hide at the visitor center. I recommended visit if you come to Japan to watch birds. Bring picnic lunch and enjoy the birds while eating

One of my friend likes to jog here almost everyday, so people should be careful not to be blown away by his shikensen speed!?

Two 50 meter pools in one facility. It's steps away from the station and a nice exercise room as well. In order to use the diving pool you need a special licence. It's not too crowded when I have used it in the evenings. 500 yen for 2 hours is a bargain for this place. The rules are posted in English and some staff speak English as well. The natives are very friendly and many times I have been approached by kind Locals who have checked up on me to make sure I am doing ok and enjoying life in Japan. You cannot use shampoo or soap in the showers. A swimming cap is a must as well. Fortunately if you forget anything, Mr. max and the 100 yen shop is next door. There is also a very nice public bath next door as well if you want to bathe.

(Translated by Google) The pool at Shin Narashino Station. As it is right in front of the station, it has excellent access unlike Tatsumi's pool. Both the main and sub pools are long waterways. Admission is reasonably priced at 500 yen. The pool is very beautiful. It's a little disappointing that you can't use shampoo in the shower room. In the case of the pool, you can stay for 2 hours for 500 yen per adult. The pool is divided into general use and competition use, and both are free to use when not in use. It's quite spacious, so you can swim without feeling cramped even if it's a little crowded. There will be a 5 minute break every hour. Also, the lockers and poolside are thoroughly cleaned and beautiful. There are regular competitions, so be sure to check the official website for release schedules and more. Also, please note that this is not a heated pool. (Translated by Google) I stopped by for the first time in a few years after watching Roki Sasaki, but... The lockers are really noisy. There are so many people hanging out at the entrance that it's too much of a nuisance! etc. I wish the user etiquette was a little better. (What no one pays attention to or notices is a problem that predates sports.) --- The water temperature is quite low compared to other pools, making it a good place to stretch your legs. I stopped by to see the (cute) tiled Jacuzzi, but unfortunately it was closed. (I usually use 50m pools in Tokyo. The other day, I swam at the Yokohama International Pool for the first time in several years while also watching basketball.)

(Translated by Google) The appeal of this course is that you can practice your start, and since it's 50m long, it's easy to check your own time level. Weekdays are recommended, as the main and sub-sites are busy on holidays, so you won't be able to complete the training menu. There are many people who are good on weekdays, so you can set a goal and improve your level. I'm practicing basic crawling through practice videos, land training, and pool training. My body still can't catch up with the old sensations😮‍💨Low resistance form is difficult😓 (Original)

Daichi Suzuki won the gold medal in the 100m backstroke at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and his swimming style, basalo, became a buzz word at the time. It seems that the monument that was located at Okubo Library in Narashino City was moved here in January 1998.
