Papohaku Beach Park

Mentioned on
State park
Nature & Parks
Pāpōhaku Beach Park is a beach park spanning 10.4 acres with amenities such as picnic tables, BBQs, campsites and restrooms. The beach itself is 3 miles long and has light golden sand that stretches for an impressive 2.5 miles in a straight line, making it the longest on the island of Hawaii.
Huge sandy beach with good restrooms and lots of parking. Also picnic areas under shade trees. Beach is good for sunbathing or walking but not for swimming or snorkeling. Waves are big and shoreline is big long rocks - looks beautiful when the waves hit them. Lots of room to spread out - on windy days the sand will pelt you. Bring shoes, lots of prickly thorns until you get to the sand.
Stacy W — Google review
Great beach for hiking, flying a kite or watching a sunset. The wind is usually pretty strong and will sand blast you. Swimming here is not recommended due to the strong current. Local surfers are used to it, but unless you’re familiar with the area - stay out of the water.
Jeremy — Google review
Huge sand beach with plenty of room. We were the only ones there in the middle of the day, but even with other people, there's plenty of room to spread out. If it's too windy though, the sand is so fine, it will feel like pellets hitting you so keep an eye on the wind. The water is fairly cold, potentially harsh, not always the best to swim in, especially for kids. But at times and in certain areas, it is safe to go in the water.
Joel Weigle — Google review
Fantastic long beach for walking. Water's too rough to recommend swimming though. Available bathrooms and a outdoor shower for rinsing off.
Michael G. Barash — Google review
The widest, longest most deserted beach in all of Hawai'i. It's name refers to the giant slabs of stone that are just offshore, which are awesome to look at with a mask and snorkel, but don't go too far out the current is wicked. You can see Oahu at night from the beach there and deer and rabbits roam.
J Kainoa Tabar — Google review
It was a mixture. It is very beautiful. But the only shade on the beach was riddled with thorns from thorn trees. The waves were too intense in late October for swimming. And the sand is that kind of sand that is hard to walk on.
Jayne Romero — Google review
Beautiful white sandy beach! Clear blue water! Absolutely paradise!
Diane Wissing — Google review
Wow this beach is the lost beautiful I've seen white sands blue water waves aren't that big but do t underestimate the under tow be safe when you out there
Gale Jokhoo — Google review
Do you like miles of pristine white sand and absolutely clear, turquoise water? If not, you'll hate it here. For me, this place is perfect. We went on a Thursday and were 3 of the 5 people on the beach at all. We went back in Saturday with the weekend "crowd"- I counted 20 people spread out along the more than 2 miles of beach. Reviews say the beach is unswimmable- we swam. There is an undertow, but it was nothing compared to any California beach I've been to. The water is crystal clear and breathtaking. There were locals swimming far out, children wading and a few snorkelers. The kids loved the crashing waves, and I liked that they were never more than knee high. It made it easy to supervise (no life guards on duty). We loved this beach. There are bathrooms with showers and a tree trunk shower, which we thought was very fun.
Erin S — Google review
Located on an easy drive to the west side of Molokai. It was easily accessible and parking was ample and flat. We were the only people at the beach at noon on a weekday in March. This is not a swimable beach. Watch children closely. The waves are mezmerizing and clearly unpredictable. From the parking lot, it is an easy, short, level walk thru a beautiful shaded park with bathrooms, outdoor shower, picnic tables and charcoal grills. The sand is soft and squishy then slopes down toward the shoreline where the sand is firm and walkable. A few shells lay in the tide wash areas. Be careful of waves that wash away your footing. The colors of blue in the water are beautiful.
Leah Baker — Google review
The beach park is a spacious area with grills and a few tables. Bathrooms are open but stalls have no doors. Showers available to wash off. You need a permit to camp overnight and can get that from Parks and Rec. There's a path to the beach that's easily accessible. Swim at your own risk. The water is known to be quite rough in this area.
Dylan Guerrero — Google review
Beautiful, empty beach with crushing waves. Not always safe to swim, but certainly a must do when in Moloka'i. Also recommend for sunset and stargazing.

The Kalaupapa Lookout is a stunning vantage point that offers panoramic views of the Kalaupapa Peninsula and the surrounding ocean. Situated on a 1600ft cliff, this overlook provides an excellent opportunity to survey the area and appreciate its natural beauty. Visitors can also explore interpretive plaques that detail the historical significance of various landmarks. While it is possible to walk along part of the trail for closer views, caution should be exercised due to slippery conditions.
So beautiful. Powerful. We were there alone for a long while, and it c was a bright sunny day.. It's really worth a visit..

Short hike to the lookout and to Phallic Rock. We went early in the am. The weather was cool and breezy.
Lisa A — Google review
What a gorgeous and breathtaking view! You can drive up to there too! If you want to get closer to view the Napali coast, you can walk partially on the trail, but it is very risky since it is slippery. If you’re up to it I think it’s totally worth it!
Lily Bloodworth — Google review
Great views and only a very short walk from the parking lot. Bring binoculars.
Michael G. Barash — Google review
Currently the only way to see Kalaupapa. Also a short walk to the phallic rock.
Kate Retherford — Google review
So beautiful! Just a short walk from the parking lot to the lookout. The overlook is quite windy so take a light jacket. Such a gorgeous peaceful palace to visit.
Brandy Bailey-Van Kuren — Google review
The closest you can get to seeing it now that the roads and hikes are closed. Either way beautiful spot! Bring binos if you can!
Anis Sakr — Google review
Beautiful lookout! Love the information on the history of Father Damien and the leper colony. Unfortunately the north side is still shut down unless you fly, so this was the best opportunity to learn about the crazy history of what happened not even that long ago!
Joel Weigle — Google review
This is the best viewpoint on Molokai. The times we've been here the wind has been howling and the weather is moving over Kalaupapa. The sheerness of the cliff is so impressive, it's hard to imagine what kind of trail is required to safely get down. The trail from the parking lot to the lookout is short and easy, this is worth the visit while on Molokai.
Fronty Parker — Google review
Such beautiful views! You will be stauend, because this part of the Island you won't be able to access easily otherwise. Go and check out the phallic rock on the other side... definitely something to explore if you are already there! In case you need to use the bathroom: Very clean bathrooms!! Just a short drive from wherever you are, so why miss it! On the way back "post a nut" in the post office close to the airport (Post Office open: Mo-Fr).
Sascha — Google review
This lookout is the best way to see the Kalaupapa Peninsula if you don't have a permit to go down the trail. Breathtaking view. It's also the way to see the *ahem* Phallic Rock. A great spot to visit on your journey around Molokai, for sure.

Hālawa Valley

Sights & Landmarks
Discover the scenic Hālawa Valley, a picturesque destination featuring lush cliffs adorned with foliage, hiking trails leading to the impressive 250-ft. Mooula Falls and inviting swimming coves. Led by the Solatorio Ohana (family), hikes through this valley reveal its rich cultural history as the oldest recorded habitation on Molokai with two sacrificial sites. Gain authentic insights into Hawaiian and Molokian culture while enjoying a moderate hike up to the stunning waterfall at its apex.
Well-presented familial, Molokai and Hawaii history, in a personal setting (the presenter's farm and home), followed by a hike through stream crossings in a forest, to the Mo'oula Falls. Unlike any other tour we've been to in Hawaii. Worth the long, twisting, (at times, single-lane) but beautiful drive to Molokai's eastern shore. Will highly recommend to friends and family.
Rajesh Parekh — Google review
Greg exudes a warm, intelligent persona that is wrapped with his amazing passion for preserving the rich culture of the Molokai. On the hike, you will be able to taste the fruits growing naturally along the trails, walk through the ancient foundations of a Hawaiian village, and end at breathtaking waterfall that has stood guard over the people of the Halawa Valley for hundreds of years. It is easy to see why this land is so sacred. The hike is walked at a strolling pace so you hear the stories of the people that once inhabited the area. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone from the outside to understand what true life on Molokai was and is like, and to share in their aloha. I would highly recommend to anyone. It was truly a highlight of all of our time in the islands.
Ryan Beck — Google review
Greg offers an authentic insight into Hawaiian, and Molokian culture on this moderate hike up into a valley with a magnificent waterfall at the terminus. A highlight of our trip to six islands, and hands down the best experience on Molokai.
Geoff Gordon — Google review
If you are visiting Molokai then you have already decided to visit the side of Hawaii that most tourists never see, Hawaii as it used to be. Molokai is truly the “island that time forgot”. The Halawa Valley Falls Cultural Hike should not be missed if you are visiting the Island. I lived on Molokai from 1993 to 1995 and had the opportunity to hike in the Halawa Valley to the falls several times. The property owners in the valley allowed travel across their property until litigious visitors who got injured began suing the property owners. Understandable then those owners began posting “No Trespassing” signs and started shoeing people away. At the present time you can still hike the falls if you know someone who lives there and receive the appropriate permission, or you can book a tour with the Halawa Valley Falls Cultural Hike. I did this in August of 2018 along with my wife and 2 children aged 7 and 10 years. There were also 5 others in our group, all from places around the world. This tour is owned and run by a lifelong resident of Halawa Velley, Anakala Pilipo Solatoria and his son Greg, who are wonderful hosts. We flew from Honolulu that morning on Mokulele Airlines, the only one that could get us to Molokai early enough for the hike. We arrived at the airport, picked up our rental car, and drove the 75 minute drive to the east end and the Halawa Valley, stopping briefly in Kaunakakai for breakfast at Kanemitsu Bakery. We arrived on the east end at 9:00 am and met Greg Solatorio and the handful of others in our tour group. For the hike you will want comfortable hiking clothes over a swim suit, perhaps a change of clothes and a towel, all in a backpack. Closed-toe water shoes or sturdy water sandals are needed; flip flops just will not work as you will be walking over slippery rocks, crossing streams, and hiking on paths with tree roots trying to trip you up. Don’t forget sunscreen and mosquito spray, and take some with you in your backpack because swimming at the waterfall will wash off your initial application. The hike begins by meeting Greg at the Halawa Valley Beach Park where cars are left behind. The group then walks up the valley and into the dense forest toward the family home where we met homeowner and lifelong valley resident Anakala Pilipo Solatorio. An ancient Hawaiian greeting ceremony is next to welcome visitors, and then we gathered on his porch for a discussion of the early Hawaiian ancestors in the valley and what life was like there in earlier times. There was also much discussion of how this early history is often warped and twisted to fit modern tourism interests. Greg then took our group further into the forest and up the valley for an incredible hike to Mo’oula Falls. There we swam, ate snacks, and “talked story” for about an hour before heading back down to the family home. We spent more time talking with Greg sharing many interesting stories about the valley and its history. Soon afterwards we were hiking the short trip from his home back to the cars. I was quite surprised to see that it was now 2:30 in the afternoon, and that we had been on this adventure for a full 5½ hours. We did see some other Molokai “attractions” that day, stayed overnight, ate some good food, and the next day flew back to Oahu. We spent 2 weeks in Hawaii, with only 32 hours of it on Molokai. For me it was nice to see the island again after living there so long ago. To be sure, Molokai is far different than most everywhere else in the Islands, and Molokai is not for everyone. But the Halawa Valley Falls Cultural Hike is an experience not to be missed. The valley is beautiful, remote, pristine, and the Mo’oula Falls are magnificent. To be able to hike to the falls, swim beneath it, and spend time with Greg Solatorio is something unique that has produced lifelong memories for my family. Greg and his father are warm and caring people who welcome visitors with open arms. I highly recommend this tour.

An incredible day learning local cultural and traditions while hiking through temple ruins and swimming beneath a postcard perfect waterfall. The guide, Greg, was eager to share his family's history and knowledge of the valley. This is THE Hawaiian experience!
Alana Adventures — Google review
Halawa Valley Cultural Tour Highly recommend. Can confirm that it is operating during COVID-19 (Year 3, Feb 2022). Please wear a mask if Pilipo (Greg's dad & kumu) is wearing one, even if outside. Show respect from the beginning, please. You will be learning other ways to show respect during the tour, so demonstrate early that you are a willing pupil 🤓 * Prepare for things to not be perfect. If it rains hard the day before,  the tour can be canceled for safety reasons. So bring some beach stuff and take advantage of the great swimming spot just beyond the meet-up point. You drove all this way so you may as well take advantage of this awesome little beach with tures nearby. * Tour is roughly 9 to 2:30. But it may start up closer to 9:30 to allow for people to navigate the twisty road. And it may run until 3 or 4, depending on who is in your group & how well the group can manage the trail. No one gets left behind, which means you go the pace of the group. It is more fun if it runs longer imho More stories, more laughing. * Bring food. Bring filling snacks. Pack a good lunch in a cooler to keep in your car & enjoy when you return. You will be quite hungry. Bring food to share at the beach afterwards with people you meet on the tour. This is a good way to build on the experience that you just enjoyed together. * Bring water shoes. They are sold in town at a few places. You do a ford immediately upon starting the trail so if you opt to go in with your walking shoes, that's a long time for them to be wet. * Trail poles are provided. It's usually a good idea to make use of them. Even if you only use them to help ford the rocky water crossings, they will be useful. * If you know how to properly greet and request permission to enter someone's land, you may bring gifts and follow the protocol. Otherwise, a basic one will be taught by demonstration. * If you have a longer stay, try to book a tour date that falls at the beginning of your stay.  There are important cultural protocols to learn that will infuse the rest of your stay if you go to Halawa Valley early on. * Book early using the calendar on the website. Website works well for payment & even took our Canadian credit with a postal code, instead of zip code. Tour was booked 2 weeks in advance in Feb 2022 so do try to book before you arrive.

Kamakou is a volcanic mountain peak standing at a height of 4,961 feet. It boasts of unique native plants and offers monthly nature tours to visitors. A major attraction for hikers is the Pepeopae Trail that takes them on a journey through three million years of evolution. The trail is surrounded by an undisturbed Hawaiian montane bog, which resembles a miniature primeval forest with stunted trees, dwarf plants and lichens.

The United States Postal Service offers a fun and unique way to send personalized souvenirs to loved ones, such as coconuts. This creative idea allows for a comical and memorable surprise when the recipient receives their unexpected package. The friendly assistance at the post office makes this experience even more enjoyable, making it worth trying out for anyone looking to add a special touch to their mailings.
Very fun to create a personal and quite unique coconut-by-mail souvenir for your loved ones. Great and very friendly help in the office and really worth doing!

What a comical and unique idea to send a coconut in the US Postal Service. My friend sent herself one we picked out and when we got home it was there waiting for her. Truly a novel idea. You must try it.
t k — Google review
This is the "Post-a-Nut" Post Office, where you can mail a personalized coconut to your family and friends rather than a boring ol' postcard! Gary Lam, beloved Postmaster at this AWESOME Post Office, is the kindest, most patient and helpful person that I've met in recent years. Gary helped me find the largest, lightest weight coconut that "sat well" (sort of like choosing a pumpkin), and also told me that I could use coconuts that I found myself, as long as they didn't have any pin-holes (bugs), and not too much liquid (heaviness factor, although makes for more stamps). This wasn't the first time I've sent a coconut from Moloka'i. What I did learn though, is that you can also send them from the two other post offices (the ones in Maunaloa & Kaunakakai), but Post-a-Nut in Ho'olehua is the only one on the island that will post it with a special variety of stamps and not just an ugly barcode. I don't think the other offices offer supplies to use either. They have bins of different sized coconuts to choose from, and they'll weigh them for you to let you know how much it would cost to mail. They also have a large tub of Sharpees so that you can decorate and create your own designs, and they will often let you bring some back to your condo with you to work on during your trip as long as you bring them back. They have always been so honest and trusting. I usually donate my extra supplies when I leave to pay it forward, and I'm sure others do the same. If you want to get super crafty, there is a hardware store in Kaunakaki called Take's Variety Store (closed on Saturdays), and they have a lot of things to use, including paint, collage podge, acrylic spray varnish, etc). Make sure that if you decide to do this, you give yourself ample time, as it takes longer for things to dry in that weather. (I did a collage one and ended up using a hairdryer at the last minute which actually worked pretty well). And don't forget that this post office closes at 4 on M-F, and are closed on the weekends, so make sure you've mailed it by then. I brought mine in at the last minute on Friday, and Gary was able to let it sit and dry more over the weekend. I also had found a few small coconuts around our property I was staying at, (get the ones that look the best with the least amount of liquid inside), that I didn't have time to do, so I used a black sharpee, wrote my name and address on them and asked Gary to please stamp them like the others so that I could make them as thank you gifts to family when I got home. They may be able to do that for you if you call them and order over the phone (I read that somewhere, so don't quote me on it). If you want to bring your own supplies, don't forget that you can't mail or even bring spray paint, etc on the plane. To save on money, bring your own supplies from home (water based ones for the collages are much easier to work with), foam brushes, etc. For the collages, stock up on the free HoloHolo magazine they offer on most planes, as well as the pamphlets they give out for each island at the airport baggage claims. The "Moloka'i Drive Guide" that they should have at the MKK airport is great, and the newspaper called "The Moloka'i Dispatch" (each issue of that paper has different colored headers). You can also pre-print images from home that you might not be able to find there, like pics from the last trip... Keep in mind that you can print it out on your inkjet printer, but it must be copied on a color copier because of the kind of toner used so it won't smear). FYI, postcards and things of the sort are too thick. Another thing I learned about finding your own coconuts (because they're everywhere), is to look for the ones that are actually under the palm trees. Many that you find around and on the beaches are cracked and ugly because they have been washed around in the ocean for some time. The King K grove is fenced off, so don't go there. All in all, if you want to send the most special postcard ever (and the coolest thing for the recipient to receive), this is the place to go!

We were fortunate that the restaurant squeezed us in (after our reservation message was missed). The atmosphere was delightful & right on the ocean as the sun was setting (especially with the Hawaiian live music in the background), the food delicious (and plentiful...no tiny portions) and the service exceptional. Honestly a wonderful, wonderful experience. Would highly recommend:)

This is truely a family owned and operated restaurant. Most of the staff are related. Menu could use a few new options or daily specials. but the food is very good. Actually met the cooking staff. Really cool folks. It's a bit pricey for some of the menu items , but most hotel restaurants are. Try the eggrolls and garlic chicken, they were delicious.
Tanicka Turner — Google review
Given the plethora of positive reviews, we were very surprised that the quality of the food and especially the drinks was so poor. The fish of the day (red snapper) was excellent. The poke was possibly the worst I've ever had. There's no question that THE MAI TAI AND MARGARITA WERE DEFINITELY THE WORST I'VE EVER HAD. I'm not sure they even remembered to put tequila in the margarita. And what's with a menu that sneakily says "starting at" before listing the price of drinks? The lava cake was tasty but a bit chalky. The musician was awful, although I give her credit for trying. The sunset was great, otherwise I might struggle to give even two stars.

Quick Summary Located in Hotel Molokai, this is the nice restaurant on the island and one of the few establishments that open on weekends. Food was fantastic. Service is pretty solid. And the sunset views are spectacular. Highly recommend to book a reservation, especially on weekends Food- 4 stars Dined here twice. Really enjoyed their hamachi collar appetizer special, kalbi ribs, and catch of the day. Wasn't a big fan of their saimin dish on their special. Would stick with kalbi or the fresh seafood if I were to come back Service- 5 stars Servers were fantastic both times I dined here. They can be a bit short-staffed but luckily the beautiful views make the time go by fast Views- 5 stars Fantastic sunset views and able to see plenty of whales breach during the winter. Definitely a romantic and exciting venue with the ocean backdrop Bottom Line Good food, excellent service, and beautiful views. Definitely worth trying once while you're on Molokai

I came from out of town to visit my parents, but I am no tourist to Moloka'i. The atmosphere here is more than beautiful, it's breathtaking. The food is exceptional. The list of "5-star quality" dining experiences on this island is almost null, so if that's what you're looking for, this is the place to go. Price point is $$-$$$ (comparatively). You can't go wrong though - it could be fun & social, or intimate (depending on the day of the week), has live music, and is right on the water?! I wish I had more pictures to add, but here are a few.

This is probably the best dining on Molokai. Service was friendly and the pace leisurely. Many menu items unavailable, depending on when the shipment from Honolulu last arrived (twice weekly barge). As the only bar on the island they don't have a lot of competition but that clearly doesn't stop them from going above and beyond. As a group of 4 all of our food was very good and delicious and even when they got busy we still had a steady supply of drinks. To top it all off there was live music from a local entertainer that was really pleasant to listen to.

If you are craving for your American "regular meals" during this trip, this is a place to go! Limited selection of draft beers but their cocktails were amazing! Our servers were friendly and attentive! You may come across many of the reviews about their poke bowl.... it's TRUE! They're amazing. I ordered mine with spicy sauce and my friend had shoyu. Are you looking for the perfect size of appetizer to share with 3-4 people? Get the Paddlers fries! Fries topped with spicy mayo and furukaki. It was full of flavors and the perfect combination! Friends ordered lamb dinner and shrimp burger. Highly recommend!

The staff were great and friendly and really wanted to get orders right. Lillikoi lava flow with Malibu was a good recommendation from the server. Got the Pina Burger special but should have guessed it would be slathered in mayo on top and bottom. I didn’t, and ended up scraping mayo off of everything and losing various parts of the e burger in order to get rid of it. They give you a tiny dollop of the pineapple jalapeño sauce but gave me more when I asked. The bacon seemed nice and crispy but I took it off because it was covered in mayo. The burger doesn’t come with any sides. I ordered medium rare and it was medium. The burger itself was not a standard fast food thin patty, maybe a half-inch thick. The bun was nice. The live music was a nice touch and the outside seating was comfortable on a cool May evening.

It was great to be able to find a vegetarian option in the menu that was not just salad (I had the spaghetti with mushroom sauce and added tofu). Saloon-style bar with live music, food and a good drink selection at decent prices. Food was OK, but definitely not the best we had on the island. But overall fun atmosphere with communicative staff, guests and musician... Well worth spending an evening. Come early, because on Moloka'i, late nights are not very late... ;-)

Kamoi Snack-n-Go, Inc. is a remarkable ice cream shop on the island that has been serving delicious treats since 1995. Known for its wide variety of flavors, which surpasses 30 options, this establishment offers an exceptional selection that is hard to find elsewhere. Customers can sample several flavors and should not miss the delectable pink and blue cotton candy, caramel macadamia nut, or Kona coffee varieties.
Amazing ice cream! Definitely the best on the island and has been a go-to since it opened in 1995. Dave’s Hawaiian Ice Cream inside the Karoo Snack-n-Go is truly impeccable! There are over 30 flavors which are all great and you can sample if you are between a few. The pink and blue cotton candy are great along with the caramel macadamia nut and the Kona coffee. There are also Hawaiian flavors which are unique and hard to get elsewhere. Overall truly amazing ice cream that you can’t miss! The price is good as well being $3.50 for a scoop or two scoops for $4.50.

Excellent ice cream shop with lots of original flavors. Their regular milk is pretty thin and milky but they do offer a thick option for an increased price. They use canned whipped cream which turns into sticky slop after a few minutes. Service was quick and easy.

We are ice cream lovers and enjoyed our visit here. Highly recommend, great assortment.

Amazing!!! Not sure why this place doesn’t come up in the top places to go in Molokai. Has amazing range of ice cream option with almost each of them tasting great. Ube is super good flavor. I will highly recommend this place.

We went here strictly for Dave's Hawaiian Ice cream. It is on the consistency and quality of gelato. Absolutely fabulous. There are way too many choices to make. SO just take your time. The people working here are quite friendly and offer helpful advice when they can.

Yuuuummmm! Lots of great ice cream choices. The ube ice cream was recommended by the girls working the counter and it was so good.

Wonderful ice cream! There are many flavors and it's hard to choose. It's very clean, their music adds atmosphere, and the employees are friendly.

Nice place on Molokai for ice cream. They have a wide variety of flavors and let you have sample tastes. They also have several different Icee flavors to cool you off on those warm Hawaiian days. It's a great place for a cool treat!

Came here for the ice cream, of course. Lots of flavors to choose from. Prices are kind of high for the amount you get. Tried the blueberry cheesecake and Hawaiian mud pie flavors, and both were excellent. Good service from the workers too.

Sundown Deli, located in Molakai, is a sandwich haven that offers a wide array of delectable options. With an extensive menu, it's regrettable that I didn't visit this delightful place on my first day. The BLT with avocado and tuna sandwiches were particularly outstanding, leaving me craving for more. The oat bread served as the perfect accompaniment to the crispy bacon and thinly sliced avocado in the BLT sandwich.
I love this store. Thank you for your kindness and delicious sandwiches.

Not bad, we ordered a couple of salads and the reason I'm giving two stars is because the oriental salad is supposed to come with chicken and we got maybe 5-7 tiny pieces. Be sure to call in your order! The woman working there is lovely.

Sandwich perfection. Went here on my 3rd and final day on molakai. Wish I had visited day 1 because I would have tried every thing on the menu. Had the blt w/avocado and tuna sandwich. So delicious. Maybe the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. The oat bread was perfect compliment to the crispy bacon and thinly sliced avocado. The tuna sandwich was topped with yummy sprouts and green lettuce and cucumber. They do have coffee/mochas and open early so go here if u want a breakkie sandwich (the other coffee place in town was sold out of everything and coffee wasn't the best). They are very nice and have a cute place to boot!

Small (2x2 tops), cozy, cute deli, serving made on demand cold and hot sandwiches, and saimin. I had a hot turkey sandwich on a croissant that was excellent. My wife had a cup of saimin which was ono (delicious). The staff is friendly, the food was reasonably priced, and I recommend this if you find yourself hungry as you walk Kaunakakai town.

YUMMY. Custom-made sandwiches to your ultimate Delight.! Service with a beautiful smile! Really good food. And just flat-out a good place to grab a bite to eat cuz it's good!

Sandwiches are good and the ladies are nice. Broad selection, considering the difficulty of getting things to the island.

Bakery
Breakfast restaurant
Simple, down-home bakery & cafe serving breakfast, lunch, pastries & fresh-baked bread since 1922.
You must stop here when you visit Molokai and ensure you go for sweet bread at night... Everyone is so kind and loves what they do.

Nice local restaurant whose menu and atmosphere reminded me of the places I grew up going to on Guam. I had the kimchi fried rice for breakfast, and my partner had the fried egg sandwich. Also purchased taro donuts to go. Everything was delicious. They were short staffed that particular morning, so service was slow. But perhaps just a classic observation of island time, cause truly, what reason is there to rush? Cool that you just seat yourself at your preferred seat, and they'll get to you when it's your turn. Otherwise, you can just order from the bakery up front for pastries and take out orders. We didn't make it back for the hot bread in the evening, but trust that the hype is real.

Stopped by this gem while I was waiting for the poke bowl across the street. Bought macadamia nut cookies here and had to come back for more. Saw a sign about hot bread so we came the next night. There's hot bread serve starting at 730pm. You can park your car in front of the store. There is a small alley to the right of the store to get you there. We ordered ube cream cheese filling(seasonal only), mango, and cinnamon cream cheese. I like the ube cream cheese the most, but my friends like the mango. One of the locals recommended cinnamon butter cream cheese. Honestly, you can't go wrong on anything on the menu.

It's a decent breakfast joint and is also a local favorite. We were pretty much regulars there for the entire month we lived. Taro pancakes are an absolute hit. Best time to go for the popular hot bread is 7 pm, when it is served fresh out of the oven. It was huge and enough for two people. One thing which disappointed me is the they were using readymade jams and not fresh which I was expecting. The best combo is cream cheese, cinnamon and butter.

One of the few restaurants on the island. They bake great bread and pastries but we went their for breakfast. I ordered eggs over easy and got eggs over hard. Absolutely no yoke in the eggs. I did not return it trying not to be impolite.

Great place for breakfast! They have the usual breakfast menu eggs, bacon, French toast, and hash browns with good coffee. Very family friendly with lots of locals eating there so it gives you a clue. Want to escape the hotel it is a good choice.

I've been all around the world but have yet to step foot on an island just 7.5 miles away from Maui: The island of Molokai. Some say I'm not missing out on anything, but I disagree. I love to experience new places, from its people, to its beaches, to its eateries. So how did I end up writing a review on the infamous Kanemitsu Bakery? The People Who Clean company of Maui generously donated loaves of bread to healthcare workers on Maui! THE GOODS: Molokai Enriched Bread (plain, no filling) I've heard about it for ages but never tried it until now. I'm not a "bread person" or fanatic per se, as it's just something that holds other foods together or served as a filler before your entrée. Don't get me wrong as a few have floored me, like that good sourdough which held up my eggs benedict at Kitchen Story (restaurant) in San Francisco. This sucker is hefty at one whole pound! But cut into it and it's light and fluffy as can be. I asked others how they ate theirs. Some warmed it up then lathered with butter and jelly while others stated that the cream-filled ones are to die for. I simply sliced an end off and spread some strawberry preserve on it. It was good - soft and airy but there was no wow-factor for me. It was just... bread. Perhaps I should've used a more creative topping/preparation or need to have it pre-filled by the bakery (with strawberry, blueberry, butter, crème cheese or cinnamon flavors according to pictures) to knock me off my feet. OVERALL: While I totally appreciate the 5-star gesture from PWC Hawaii, the Kanemitsu's bread is a 3-star for me.

Worst service I received in my life, it was hilarious. First coffee shop I’ve been to without wifi. Angry manager who didn’t want to break a $20 to tip a server. Very slow and forgetful staff. Salty French toast. Good fried rice though. Probably what I get for being a haole tourist.

The hot bread at night is pretty bomb. I got four loaves of the strawberry with cream-cheese inside and it was great. Everyone I gave it to on Oahu the next day were stoked to get it, and it still tasted great. I can't wait to go back to Molokai one day and stay overnight.

After going two nights in a row for their nightly hot bread in the back alley, we tried their breakfast on Monday morning. Delicious! What a gem. We enjoyed the corned beef hash , taro pancakes and all the perfectly cooked eggs, sausages, bacon, and rice. We bought 3 pastries to go and wow, they were perfect. Thank you! And you will never regret getting hot bread with cream cheese and mango or cream cheese and ube. One of my top 5 food experiences of my life for sure.

Nice breakfast spot. Good food and service. But it’s Molokai’ so everything is on old Hawaii time. Don’t expect to get out quickly. My husband devoured his banana pancakes while I savored my omelette. Definitely worth a stop. We still haven’t ventured out for their hot bread after 730 pm!

Love their breads, sweet breads and pastries. Totally recommend. At night, after 7:30pm, go to the back alleyway on the right of the bakery and walk until you see light. Order a hot bread with cream cheese and strawberry or guava. It is so good!
