Ebony Forest Reserve Chamarel

Mentioned on
Nature preserve
Outdoor Activities
The Ebony Forest Reserve Chamarel is a conservation initiative in Mauritius that aims to recreate a small pocket of indigenous native forest, which once covered the entire island 250 years ago. This protected forest spans 45 hectares with around one-third already completed. Visitors can explore the reserve through 7km of hiking routes, two raised walkways, and safari jeeps. The reserve features flowering plants, pink pigeons, and giant tortoises.
Really nice hiking trail up the hill and on top there is a fantastic view. There is also a small cafe near the top, with some nice view. One way to access this hiking trail is through Chamarel area and there is also Ebony forest museum which is really interesting.

A very peaceful and rejuvenating place where to spend the day. Breathtaking views, beautiful forest paths, and bird songs all along the way. We were fortunate to see many birds including the Echo Parakeet thanks to the app "Birds of Mauritius". In this app, you can play bird songs and the real birds respond to those recordings. It was extremely beautiful to welcome the sunset from the top view while enjoying cocktails and snacks. Special thanks to our guide Jean Francois who educated and accompanied us with his friendly, sincere, and calm personality :) Amazing day! Thank you Ebony forest!

The ebony forest is well worth the visit! A few people complained about the paths and signage, but this wasn't really a problem for us, there is usually only one way to go! The walk is beautiful and goes quicker than expected. We recommend walking along the ridgeline trail nd walking back along the main path. The walk back is very easy and relatively quick!

The best experience so far on Mauritius! We did the jeep drive with Avish, who guided us and answered thoroughly each of our numerous questions. By the way, if you travel with toddler (our daughter is 2,5 years old), the jeep drive is a very good option- very manageable amount of walking and the jeep seats are rather nap-friendly
dominika zakova — Google review
We took the Jeep tour through the forest, which was a very great idea in retrospect: Our guide Avish explained a lot of interesting details about the different endemic and exotic flora and fauna you can find in Mauritius, especially the great efforts that need to be made to protect and restore the original flora and fauna. His enthusiastic explanations made the trip an amazing experience and we can definitely recommend spending the extra money for it, especially given that this will also help the ebony forest project to keep up their great work of protecting the endemic wildlife. Taking the Jeep tour also won't just help you spot details you would miss otherwise, you also won't need to hike up the quite steep paths in the heat.
Samuel Hopstock — Google review
Nice walk, beautiful viewpoint but also so lovely to walk through the endemic forest. Very well done welcome shop. They have a little snack/drinks place at the top of the viewpoint which is definitely worth stopping by. Recommend going early as it gets really hot.
Sarah Gujadhur — Google review
Had an amazing time and a refreshing place to be at. We opted for the 'take a drive' and the guide (Damien) was very friendly and informative. Spectacular viewpoints. And pathways are well-maintained. Overall very satisfied. Highly recommend!
Snehaa Sewpaul — Google review
Super nice walk in a rather beautiful scenery. Everyone talks about mosquitos, however I haven't been bitten once, despite wearing shorts and sleeveless top. If you are even slightly fit and fancy a better experience, near the access to the pasarelle ditch the road and take the ridgeline trail - so much more worth it. Once reaching the cafe, follow the signs towards the toilettes and you'll find another trail leading to the very top - Pinon Canot. Its behind a gate that appears locked, but isn't, it is only asked to keep it closed after passing through it. This one is somewhat more challenging but the view from the top is excellent.

Must visit to understand Mauritius and their Nature! Highly recommend to talk to the staff during the 30 min guided tour and ask all the questions you have. Also, you will be rewarded by a spectacular view at the end.
Arite Mickan — Google review
One of the best place to discover nature, the history of Mauritius, the andemic trees, about birds and the hiking is breath-taking.... If you love nature, it is highly recommended. Tour Guides are excellent.
Brian Leung — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience. We opted for the love tree package which included a jeep ride which is amazing and an excellent tour guide who was not only knowledgeable but genuinely funny. The snacks at the view point were a nice touch and it felt good to plant a tree and help with the conservation efforts. Well worth your time and money.
Daniel Baruch — Google review
Lovely little hike, does climb at times not for everyone. The 30 minutes introduction to the Ebony forest and what is being done to preserve it while walking amongst the trees is quite refreshing and instructive. Amazing view at the top 🤩
Ihab D. — Google review
For hikers it’s an easy track no need to be accompanied by a guide. You can also easily access to the mountain Piton du canot. At sublime view point is amazing views of le Morne mountain and île aux Benitier. You can also visit the museum.
Lutchmee Seen — Google review
Visited the Ebony Forest in Mauritius and started with an informative short museum tour about the island. The walk through the forest was refreshing, showcasing the native ebony trees leading to the summit. For an easier or quick ascent, a guided jeep tour is available, where guides like Krish offer friendly and helpful insights. A must see for those interested in Mauritius's natural history and scenic beauty.
Emanuele — Google review
Well i decided to take the shortcut thinking it was "easy" according to reception, it was obviously shorter but wayyy harder, i don't recommend the shortcut for someone with children! It was steep and slippery. I decided on the way back to walk the cemented route (the one supposed to be longer, it was so much faster because it was actually easier). So if you like hiking difficult routes, take the shortcut. It will be in the forest. I knocked off a star, because the signage was awful. They don't tell you "you are at point F" when you get there, they can do better.

Wonderful Experience! The Ebony tree section tour was very good, with a well prepared guide explaining all the details of endemic Mauritian flora and fauna. The ridgeline trail through the forest was nice and not difficult. The view from the top of ridge at Sublime Point, spacing from Le Morne to Filc en Flac was amazing. Mosquito repellent was advised but not necessary in our case.
Leonardo Saccardi — Google review
I thoroughly enjoyed my hike in the Ebony Forest Reserve. Well maintained paths with some spectacular view points. Getting to the restaurant is a bit of a hike up, but well worth it. Take some money and enjoy a refreshment and some time on the deck. Definitely recommend when you're in the area.
Greer Blizzárd — Google review
It is a wonderful place. Well looked after and so important for nature. A great project to have a piece of Mauritius as it used to be before people arrived. The easy guided walk was informative and beautiful . We have been twice on this trip. There are various options to reach Sublime Point. We hiked and it was enjoyable. The bar and snack bar is delightful. We also hiked to the top of Piton Canot. It is steep and care is needed and worth it for the fantastic view.
Angela Horrigan — Google review
Totally highly recommend this place. It is really paradise in paradise. I recommend buy online ticket and take a drive with a guide. It was our best decision. We saw endemic animals (birds and gekons) and flora. The guide told us many interesting things about nature history of island. I think everybody should visit this place to appreciate the island nature and undestanding of island. Thank you our guide and everybody who works here. And the viewpoint on the top? The best view I have ever seen. The jeep tour is also good for kids. Dont forget to your mosquito protection! And we got the umbrellas when the rain was starting. Super idea for visitors.

Very nice place ..the food and services were too good.

Room is average with rustic decor. Nothing luxurious! Only cold water was available in the shower, no a/c and the TV remote wasn't even working. The food was good and it's a very quiet place. However, I feel the rate for room use is overpriced.

welcoming was below standard mosquitoes all around the eating place as per deals proposed on call, same wasnt applied on place road to the location has to be done !
Ashfaaq Hussein Curimbaccus — Google review
The location is sublime: quiet and cosy. A good place for cut off from daily routine. The structure is beautiful as well as the nature surrounding it. We were taken good care in restaurant and hats off to the chef, loved the meal. However, as a hotelier, i find some things that cannot be compromised with: dust behind the tv, dirty fridge and smelly too. Hygiene factors cannot be compromised. A lounge music in the restaurant would have been better than hearing the staff yelling, no signage of reception when you arrive and no one to assist with directions neither. These can be improved
Ankush Sungkur — Google review
Total disaster... We dropped in for coffee and a dessert. We asked for two bills, the waiter brought... two beers. We ordered coffee, hot chocolate, fruit salad and ice cream. The coffee was terrible, as was the chocolate - both instant. Ice cream - just three scoops with no additives, and the salad was just two spoons of a disgustingly sweet, flavorless fruit mix from a can. The view is also rather overrated. You can see part of the lake, but the main thing that catches your eye is the photovoltaic farm.
Magda Krupinska — Google review
horrible place, disgusting service, the staff was not welcoming, I’ve never seen a room that is so dirty and disgusting.🤮 the waiter was rude don’t recommend this place ever to anyone. save your money.

I was alone - no business so they refused to make me even coffee…. Do not waste your time.
Jaromír Kriz — Google review
We never felt that unwelcome as a guest. That staff is absolutely unmotivated and I’m sure the restaurant isn‘t owner managed and the stuff acts like guests are disturbing and means work for them… The food was nothing special but very well prepared! The only great thing is the nice view! This place could be great but therefore the stuff (especially the woman who seems to be the restaurant manager) would need a complete change.

Curious Chamarel

Specialty Museums
Curious Chamarel is a unique and interactive gallery of illusions and art in the southwestern region of Mauritius, located opposite to the famous 7 Coloured Earth of Chamarel. This one-of-a-kind tourist attraction features several attractions such as an upside-down room, a laser room, and other mind-bending activities that challenge your sense of perspective.
Great place on the opposite side of the entrance to the Seven Colored Earth Geopark. If you would like to experience something funny, get here fast. Interesting for both small kids (mine is 3 and 5) and elder kid = adults with interests of fun and stuff 😎 Some things on the outside, but more than you think is also inside, if a rainy day. Mirrors, upside down rooms, secret rooms with hidden locks, tricks for the mind and eyes, things only seen funny after viewing it on a picture taken during the trick etc. Also very friendly staff helping out taking pictures and explain how things work if you are like me a bit slow during vacations times 😉 But watch out for the mirror maze, one of the kids saw me and run towards me - right into a mirror.. Ending up with a nice memory bruise on the cheek 🤣😇🙈

Very cool!! From the optical illusion photos to puzzles to unlock your next experience to the very friendly staff. I’m been to a similar place in Dubai, but I would say there’s more to do here and more twists to the plot which make it an overall better experience. Highly recommended place to visit when in Mauritius.

Quite interesting and unique place in Mauritius. Seems ticket prices are increased. A place of optical illusion. When I visited some work was going on in the premises, some new things will be installed or exhibited. If you have Mauritius residents ID card, make use of that get discount in ticket price. I think a 3-hrs visit will be good enough to observe and explore each and everything there. Make sure you have a good camera (DSLR/smartphone) because inside the building, light is very low, it's just the ambience maintained for the illusion. Outside garden also has many things to explore and mainly to have interesting photos. The staffs are helpful and friendly, they will guide you on how the photos should be taken for best results (read illusion). There are puzzles to solve and that will keep you engaged for some time. Very good place for kids especially. When I visited , their official website was down for upgradation, hence couldn't book tick online in advance, but you can buy tickets at the place itself using QR code and cards payment. It's just opposite to entry of 7-coloured earth geopark.

Corona has had a great impact on this place. Place is amazing for its illusions but was more fun with a guided tour where the person explained exactly what one needs to do to enjoy the illusion better.

Curious Chamarel is located near Seven Colored Earth, is a good place to have fun with illusion and puzzle. Other than blue lagoons and natural beauties this a is one of the top attractions of Mauritius. They have the upside down room, the mirror maze the ames room , the laser music room and many more. Though compared to such places in locations in the world, their offerings are limited. Yet definitely a must visit place while you are in Mauritius.

My second visit to Mauritius and second trip to Casela. Really enjoyed it. Shame some of the attractions have not reopened since covid. The safari was a long wait and bus's were filled too full (small seats). Other than that no real complaints.

It was such an amazing experience. I highly recommend anyone going to casela to do the eco rider safari tour. We were up close with the animals. The guide we had was really nice too. He explained a lot about the animals and made our experience more fun.
Neha Walter — Google review
we were there for a few hours, and cant really say that is so special and wonderfull, as some others say. one restaurant closed up at 14:00, because of sone wedding. The already quite pricy entrance fee is quite high and for any other attraction, you have to pay a lot! from initial price of 1200MUR, you could easily spend a few thousand more... guides are bored and not really helpfull. The animals look in good shape and well taken care off wich is a plus.

It is very (!) important to arrive an hour earlier, as the organizer informed you in advance via email! They don't inform you just for fun. The park is very big and you should be there on time so you don't miss any of the activities. Unfortunately we arrived late, but the slim lady at the reception reacted really well and changed our tickets to another day. Thank you for the great and uncomplicated service! Now to the park and what it has to offer: Highly recommended. The park is beautifully laid out and the animals are doing well. Most of the animals run around freely (not the dangerous ones, of course). You can see the joy and love of the animals from the employees and you can learn a lot of interesting facts about all of the animals. The park's infrastructure is well organized and strictly timed! I highly recommend doing the safari and the drive-thru. A great experience that is very close to the African original!
Ludwig Simmet — Google review
Nice experience although not long (about 45 minutes). You better book in a day earlier or so as it can be fully booked on the day. Also, if you wanna visit the entire park you should go early and spread your activities throughout the day. They close around 5pm on weekdays (including restaurants) so keep that in mind

What a gem in flic en flac! A great restaurant with fantastic curries. I was sceptical at first but many people in the area recommended it. It did not disappoint. Enteranc is through the bottom door, you go up a staircase and there you are greeted with the restaurant floor. It felt like a tree house. The staff were very attentative. Price excellent. All around a great experience!

Zub Express is an interesting mix of Indian and Chinese food; we ate a wonderful choice of the Indian selection. The outdoor terrace with a view into the beach and forest is well worth climbing 2 flights of stairs! Service was very attentive, and we saw the staff clean tables very thoroughly in between guests. The best recommendation: tourists were the minority – most of the clientele were Mauritian. Highly recommended! Takeaways also available.

During our month-long stay in Mauritius, my friend and I discovered a true gem in Flic en Flac: Zub Express. This Mauritian Indian restaurant quickly became our go-to spot for dinner, and it never failed to impress us with its delightful flavors, warm ambiance, and outstanding service. One dish that stood out as our absolute favorite was the Prawn Coco and Taranka Rice. This delectable creation featured succulent prawns cooked in a creamy coconut-based sauce that was simply divine. Highly recommend!

Food was average. Some were okay (Indian food was okay) but some were bad (grill, Chinese). The steak was horrible. Was so difficult to cut it as it was hard. Couldn't even chew it as it felt like I was chewing rubber. It was tasteless. Grilled fish had a weird watery taste. Lassi wasn't good at all. Service wise: average as well. The waiters were nice and friendly but service was slow. The atmosphere was okay. They don't make reservations. We had to wait for about 40 mins to get a table but that was not an issue. The place was clean but crowded, especially on the ground floor. The cutlery was clean as well. Overall, everything was average but was disappointed with the food.

Good food, reasonably priced, generous portions. Selection of drinks could be improved. We appreciated the fact that our meals were served quickly on a busy Friday night even if we arrived late. Conveniently located on the beach front of flic en flat beach. Parking opposite under the trees. If u order take out u stand outside and order at window. While u wait for order u can take a walk to the beach or sit at the table and benches outside. Order took about 10mins. Spent Rs540 for a garlic naan, aloo paratha and chicken kadai.... It was lovely. I should've gone with spicier option as the kadai had flavour but no heat. Was offered chilli and mango atchar. Will be back.

A great Indian restaurant with extremely friendly and attentive staff and very good food. They serve Indian, Chinese and European dishes and only non-alcoholic drinks. The naan bread is amazing and tastes fantastic with every dish! The location is very cozy and well ventilated despite the balcony atmosphere. You hear little to nothing from the traffic on the main road. All in all, a great place to celebrate food. It is also very inexpensive. The restaurant lives up to its Trip Advisor Choice Award!

From the outside looking in, the busy nature of the restaurant, filled with customers, appears promising. We were part of a large group (10+) so had to wait a little while before getting a table. Getting our orders in was fine, with attentive service. We got a range of starters including samosas, crispy chicken and crouistillant. Apart from the samosas, they tasted fine, well cooked accompanied by some fine-tasting condiments. As each order arrived it was all looking fine, until mine. As I received an incorrect meal. The look on the assistant’s face told the story and quickly retracted the incorrect order. The mains did take some time to arrive (no problem, really), but the correct order seemed to arrive incredibly quickly, which concerned me at the time. I had a whole grilled fish with a side of chips, salad and garlic sauce. I do like a grilled fish, however I do believe it was probably grilled a bit to well and charred too much; drying it out. The garlic sauce did not do much to alleviate the lack of juiciness in the fish. I’m not sure whether the trying to amend the incorrect delivery of the meal played a part in the quality of the meal as it was given fairly quickly after the mistake had been realised. Overall, it is a decent family restaurant without it being spectacular and hopefully the mishap with giving the wrong meal is a rare occasion for the business as it does seem to be well visited hungry eaters.

A very very good place. The place is beautiful 😍 The atmosphere and ambience. A very intimate, romantic or family friendly atmosphere created by the lake, dimmed lights, and private tables on the lake. The restaurant is massive. A lot of effort has been put into this place. Lobster was good. Sauces and dips were great. Starters were good. Lamb steak was a bit dry and the food presentation could be improved to take this restaurant up to the next level. I would recommend this place. A very very good value for money and a superb restaurant.

An excellent place to have a romantic lunch or dinner with an outstanding view surrounded with water. The Chinese food is good and they have varieties of seafood as well. An excellent place for a first date.

Amazing anniversary party we had at Domaine Anna. Food, service, music, and location were excellent.

We visited the place in the evening. You find Domaine Anna in lush tropical surroundings. That opens up in different scenic pockets. When you walk through you have aquariums, waterfall and lovely setting of tables and dining islands that gives you privacy. All that is accommodated by a delicious food and live music. However, when the place gets busy the service may be sketchy. Overall, we loved the experience and would recommend to anyone who is visiting an island.

Domaine Anna is situated in the west of our island. It can accommodate more than 100 guest at once. Very huge place for birthday celebration and wedding events. I am so happy that they reserved the best seating near the lake. It was a get together with my girls. We really enjoy our 3 dinner course. So flavourful mood and dishes. I highly recommend to go for dinner with dashing clothes and makeup The price is quite affordable for a good set up and tasty food.we had Mauritian meal : fried noodle and Fried rice accompanied with some sautéed lamb. Cocktails were really good! The dessert was marvelous.we couldn't resist the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. We had taken some picnics along the lake, the garden and park. The place is really beautiful and the lightings are well organised. Will come back soon ✅🙏📍❤️ Highly appreciate the generosity of the staff. So helpful and kind. Highly professional and quick service. I highly recommend this place for special occasion. Food: 10/10 Service :10/10 Price :10/10

The service was good. Overall food was good except for the steak which was hard to cut and keep chewing it for some minutes. The starters, other main food and the dessert was very good. I recommend the 'peche melba' it was excellent. I don't know for the other table but where we sat it was very hot and the ventilator was out of service.

Worst experience ever.. -Been there on the 10th of january. -No lounge or background music whatsoever. -Staff doesnt have any customer service experience. -stray cats walking everywhere. -food disgusting, frozen food aerved and main was just disgusting. -No local beer. Overall i would not recommend this place to anyone.I asked for a refund.

We expected better food quality and taste for the price. Cold fries while we expected mash potato to go along with the roast meat and been charged 315rs for a bland fried rice with no veggies which was supposed to be a side to a dish. You can expect better food else where for less. Nevertheless some dishes were good and atmosphere 5/5

Enjoyed our table on the deck. Really peaceful to eat surrounded by the lake. Really cozy if you are having a meal as a couple or even in a group. The food itself was really good. Only minus is it took a few tries to get the attention of the waiting staff. Other than that it was a great experience and it is highly recommended
Umar Khan Kheerdali — Google review
Domaine Anna falls short of expectations, with its A4 flying paper menu seeming more gimmicky than practical. The cocktails disappoint with an excessive amount of alcohol, leaving little room to savor the flavors. Moreover, the tables were disappointingly dirty, detracting from the overall dining experience. If cleanliness and balanced drinks are priorities, it might be best to look elsewhere.

Rib & Reef is a popular seafood restaurant on the coast of Mauritius. The menu features traditional favorites such as crab soup and seafood salad, but there's also something for everyone to enjoy, like chicken curry or spaghetti con squid ink. There's even a vegan section! Reservations are recommended, but seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
We had a superb dinner here on the 3rd of May 22. Highly recommend the Seafood grill for 2 which was very lavish. They actually serve 2 huge platters of perfectly grilled seafood. The Beer was also perfectly chilled and the staff were also very accommodating.

The place was nice. Comfortable setting. The service was good and friendly. The food was good and the portion relatively okay. I said okay comparing to other places we have been on the island. Prices are fair. You can have a three course meal without ruining yourself. The only negative point was other guests smoking. Actually we were sitting outside, so I guess the policy allows for those sitting outside to smoke. I think it's general rule here on the island. So I'd advise to sit inside to avoid inconsiderate guests who don't understand that you don't wanna be smoking with them and you sitting outside means you just wanna enjoy the fresh air and not their smoke. Other than that as I said, good place by itself. Edited. I came back here again months later, the service was perfect. The food perfect, the starters, the main course, the desert and the drinks...just perfect. Their beef roulade as starters just great, their prime beef steak perfectly seasoned, tender and juicy though I ordered it well done. It wasn't dry, it was really great. I enjoyed it and had to update my review. I definitely recommend the place.

Well situated restaurant with nice set-up. The cocktails are quite good. The staff is friendly but the service was very slow. The restaurant was at half capacity and we waited 1 hour for the food. The food was quite nice, had the grilled fish and it was very tasty.

Great restaurant. Staf very fest, also when you order in max 5 minute food is prepared. Only one suggestion portions are small. We eat babun fish it was great. Recommend.

Very nice place, very professional aproach. Latest hours can be full. It is better to make reservation after 9-10pm. Food was very good, local and tasty. The creme brulee I had was a little bit disapointment. Was good, but without stroger flawours of vanilla. It wasn’t spread in volume of the cake but the vanilla fell to the bottom. And the caramelised suggar on the top was a little bit burnt - was bitter. But the fish and shrimps were outstanding. It may by only a onetime mistake.

Best food in Flic en Flac! Superb fish, seafood, and beef, and the dishes are cooked to perfection. Try their speciality, the Fisherman's platter for two. It is just heavenly with a good variety of the day's fish & seafood. Nice, helpful staff, too! We stayed in this area for 14 days, and went four times to this restaurant. The food was excellent each time.

The place was a little disappointing. The service was very slow. We had to actively look for the attention of the staff to order something, and the food took long to arrive. We all ordered a pasta which was amazing. It tasted fresh and flavourful. Just a shame the service was slow, as this place has potential.

Very good restaurant! We were here on dinner, we found this restaurant od google maps and check reviews - this restaurant is worth 5 stars. Service was very kind and professional. I choosed grilled lamb medium for 895RS - for me it was smaller portion, but taste was awesome. My GF choosed penne 3 cheese - this taste very good for price 300RS For drink we have mochito and virgin piña olada - both drinks taste awesome. Overall, I definitely reccommend this restaurant, you must visit it when you are in Flic! It it's worth it! :) We come back for sure :)

Went here because of the positive reviews. It is recommended to reserve! I've eaten a lot of steaks in my life but what I was served here is the best steak 🥩 I've ever eaten! the sauce was perfectly balanced and homemade to the point cooked to my liking. Even as an industry professional, I can absolutely recommend this restaurant! Service is also very good and the prices are absolutely justified 👍 gladly again

This restaurant is a really wonderful place being situated in front of the beach and also providing a cozy interior. The food is delicious and the service is suitable. Staff are always kind and smiling. The steak was by far the best steak i've tasted in Mauritius. For the price, the quantity and tasteful sauce is very much worth it. Desserts are also absolutely delicious making you want more. Definitely recommend!

The food (apart from the burger) and drinks were really delicious, the staff is nice and competent as well! However you cannot enjoy those aspects due to the long wait. We had to wait about 1h30 for our food, other customers had to wait even longer. I recommend that you order the next course immediately after the last one has arrived. If you have enough time and patience, I think that you would definitely have great time at Rib & Reef, but if you are in need something quick I would go somewhere else.

Absolutely delicious steak and that peppercorn sauce was no joke! The chips it came with were delightful. For dessert we ordered a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and our taste buds exploded! The chocolate is mmmm yummy and the ice cream is very nice and natural. Kisses to the chef xx 💋 Only complaint is the wait for the main dish but man is it worth it.

Well, that was simply very good. Staff, location, and food were quite outstanding. If you should be staying at the Hilton, by all means avoid their restaurants and go here. Ten times better at half the price, if even that. Commendable.

Nice place for dinner. The food was just great. We had the chicken skewers and garden salad as starters and both were really tasty. The lamb chops with mash and veggies was amazing. Wish the serving was bigger 😅. For dessert, we took the crème brulée which was just delicious. The service was good and prices are fair. I would definitely recommend

Le Chamarel Restaurant is one of the most popular restaurants in Mauritius that provides stunning views of the Black River Mountains. The restaurant is located on Main Road in Chamarel, and it offers a wide variety of gastronomy options for customers. Some of the highlights of this restaurant include its wonderful view and delicious food.

Visited in August as a couple, as part of a day tour. We had no idea this restaurant existed prior to being taken there for lunch, ad part of a tour around the South of the island, but what amazing views it has! The food was a tasty pre-arranged three course with still water and bread also provided. Service was quick and efficient, we didn't need to interact with the staff much so can't comment o the service. Would highly recommend a stop for a bite if in the area, if just to take pictures from the viewing platform!

Staff are SUPER friendly and nice. Not an uptight place at all. Views are unreal. The MOST scenic view top restaurant I have ever seen in real life and I have been to rooftops across the world! A must visit in Mauritius even if you drive 2 hours to get here!

The restaurant location is great and it is worth visiting for the sake of views and taking pictures! I suggest it for some appetisers and few drinks. The food is not tasty, hence I don't recommend spending money there on main courses. We tried food, drinks etc, spent lots of money but left hungry. We did take lots of beautiful pictures and it was also raining, that made it even better. The service is overwhelmed by high numbers of customers, hence expect order delays! Overall, worth visiting for the views and small bites/drinks, but not the main food.

Lovely place, such a nice atmosphere and the ‘chef’s special’ dessert - was like a cheery on top - LOVED IT!❤️ Everybody is really friendly. I advise booking a table in advance if you are coming on a weekend/public holiday, this way you will be guaranteed with a perfect table spot and views from it.

Lovely restaurant in the midst of nature with spectacular views of the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean . Quaint environment, very cozy and staff attentive to customers' needs. Creole and international menu. Recommended stop even if only for a coffee or a drink and enjoy a unique experience.

Discovered this place purely by accident and managed to wander in on a day when they had no bookings and so we had the restaurant pretty much to ourselves. The food was as tasty as the views were glorious from the balcony where we sat. Chicken tikka was especially nice and the chips on the side were all divine. We dined whilst drinking in the view, spotting birds and monkeys in the trees and chatting with the owner. We returned a week or so later as a walk in and found it to be very busy and could only gain access to the bar and snack area (snacks were still awesome) I would recommend if you plan to visit you book a table and try to book for bang on noon to avoid the tourist busses turning up at 1pm. The views are awesome, especially on a blue sky day, it's a bit out the way but so worth the drive! FYI the road from tamarin up to here is currently closed and you have to divert past le Morne and climb the back way. No idea when the road will be reopened but Google maps hasn't updated the road closure state yet. Please allow for this in your travel times.

The restaurant has got a nice view and we used parking to go to Piton du Canot for better view. We were hungry and ended up eating there. The fish was nicely cooked and quality was great. The staff was not friendly or smiley at all and they seemed to be annoyed by the job, which made sense as there is a lot of people having arranged lunch with the tours. To us it seems to be overpriced as we ate half price at fine dining restaurant.

Fantastic view and great restaurant design. Perfect for sundowers. The menu is via QR Code, so my elderly parents struggled, and I had to read it to them from my phone which kinda killed the vibe. The menu is quite fancy, no pub grub. Definitely worth a visit.

The focus on this restaurant is obviously the panoramic view and that is subsequently where your money will go towards. Food was good but there are much better and cheaper places all over the island. Be adviced that the service is not included. The service itself was okay, at times uncoordinated (we got asked the same questions twice multiple times). No smiles, not thankful for the tips. Good place for the views, bank for your buck mediocre.

Highly disappointing for the prices you pay. Arrived and the waiter said they were full so we were happy to sit at bar tables until we could get a table. There were 5 tables available in that section. I ordered the chicken and prawn curry. Meal arrived luke warm, flavours non existent, dry with no sauce, rice was dry and tasteless. It also looked that way. For the price 1/10. My wife had the grilled aubergine and cheese stack, completely the opposite, hot and very tasty. My food obviously stayed at the serving station for hers to get done. I ordered a draft beer, it was warm. Service from waiters was poor. We should not have to hand signal waiters for some service. I'm not interested in that it's a busy season. It's the same every year and it's not for a lack of waiters.

After reading some reviews about the Resto, I was really excited to drop by and try the food. However, i was quite disappointed. Despite proposing the food with an appealing visual, unfortunately the Taste was not there. The seasoning and sauces really need to be uplifted to bring more flavours to the food. This issue sorted out, i'll drop by someday again...

Food was very good I did enjoy what I ordered. Loved the ice tea that is home made -it was not too sweet and you could actually taste the tea. Could get a bit noisy due to the proximity to the street but in general not bad. The staff were friendly and forthcoming.

My friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat in Flic en Flac and saw Pakbo had rather good reviews. The aesthetic of the restaurant stuck out to me. I loved the design and ornaments displayed in the outside dining around. The staff were attentive and keen to speak in English. The seafood tagliatelle and prawn coconut curry was delicious with fresh seafood.

A cozy little restaurant on the side of the road in the middle of the lively area of Flic en Flac. You should make a reservation in advance at the weekend as the restaurant quickly fills up. During the week you'll probably have more luck if you want to eat out spontaneously. The food was wonderful and, above all, fresh. The drinks were unusual and delicious. The atmosphere was very cozy and the noise level was very pleasant. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The price of the restaurant fits every budget. Highly recommended!

This is probably a better lunch place in my opinion. We went for dinner. The starters were amazing, the soups were great, the dessert good, the main however could be improved. The mains were a little bland and overcooked. The presentation was good but the steak and scampi were both lacking in flavour. Also would recommend switching the contrasting bright yellow lemon sauce with a simple garlic butter (mb a dash of saffron if wanting to keep the theme?) and lemon wedge. The vibe was fun and seats comfy, the staff were helpful and I liked that they waited till finishing entre to do mains (nice for group talk) but service slow considering the mains were just ok. Oh yeah, and the cocktail / mocktails taste and look great too.

Overall, it's a lovely spot, but our patience was tested with a nearly one-hour wait for our food. The seafood pasta, crispy calamari, and chicken skewers were delightful. However, the 'bol renversé' had an overwhelming turmeric flavour, and the chicken spaghetti was a bit too heavy on the flour.
