Def one of the coolest place! Best view point of the file puy de dome is actually from the nearby puy, park your car and 20min walk to top and enjoy the whole view! We even camped a night to watch sunset and sunrise from the tent. Puy de dôme itself can be approached from either north (steeper zigzag way all the way to top) or south (gentle ascends followed by well built wooden stairs). Make sure you take a wind jacket! The view from the top to all directions are amazing! Watching tens of craters! Worth the trip! Super easy hike

Amazing nature, the welcoming building is nice. You can go by train or on foot. The top of the mountain has a restaurant with good tasting food and the views are cool.

Wonder rare phenomenon visible in Puy de Dômes Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne France. As the sun warms up another corner of the earth, the majestic shadow of the volcano rises like a pyramid to be reflected in the landscape and even the clouds. I stand there with my dear friend, lost sight of for so long, admiring this magnificent rare and ephemeral moving fresco, a real gift from Heaven on this first day of the year!

What a great place to spent a couple of days walking biking and learning. Once at the top of Puy de Dome there are many placards explaining about volcanoes and the history of the area. Very interesting reading. In the afternoon the other volcanoes are great for biking down too! There are pathways everywhere so find your own peaceful path or join the crowds up Puy de Dome!

If you have a couple of hours to kill in Clermont-Ferrand with your kids, this is a nice educational place to go. Not too big not too small. Just about the right size.

Fun museum for all ages about the history behind inflatable tires. Try to come early as a line may form during the day! There are lockers to keep valuable stuff but bags can be brought insight. Toilets are clean. The giftshop is extensive. The topic of inflatable tires might sound uninteresting, as it is such a common object nowadays, but I personally never knew how innovative Michelin was when they first came up with the idea and how many iterations we are already on! The museum is interactive enough for kids to enjoy and the story throughout the years is very interesting for any adult.

Magnificent place. The views are stunning. The ride up and down on the train takes around 20 minutes each way. The train is €15 euros return for an adult. Dogs are accepted on the train. €4,30 return. Get their early, we left around 1pm and the queue was huge.

My only disappointment was no cycling allowed up the road, wouldn't normally irritate me but they were happy to try and sell loads of tdf stuff in the shop and promote the tdf but not allow cyclists. When you just want to escape the busy city life and have a moment to yourself, just visit Puy de dome and you'll find it. For Clermont-Ferrand residents, it is particularly accessible since it only 20-30 minutes away from the city center. Also, the Municipality of Clermont-Ferrand provides public transport till the base-camp. There are two ways to reach the summit- the panoramique train and a trail of about 90 minutes. While the train do provide convenience and save a lot of time, I'd suggest to go for the short trail since that'll truly make you appreciate the place in it's purest form. The trail is pretty safe to follow and quite enjoyable. There is good options on the top for refreshments and entertainment. There's also a museum which one can enjoy. All-in-all, a must visit place if looking to escape the busy life.

Well worth a visit. The train was clean and comfortable, with clear views all the way up. The pathways at the top, are mainly concrete, and are well layed out. Traveling around the site, is therefore easy, although steep in places. The views of the surrounding countryside are fabulous, and there are many picture boards pointing out the many and numerous view points, giving each its name. I can sit here for hours all together admiring the beautifully carved pillars made out of black volcano stones and just sit in silence. Right outside is the town square with hustle and bustle. Once in, the atmosphere of cathedral takes you back in time.

I had an amazing and a peaceful experience visiting this Cathedral. It is truly magnificent. There wasn't much rush so I was able to take time to see and appreciate the glass paintings and its overall architecture. I will definitely go back again for this experience.

I like it very much because it's different, completely dark because It is built entirely in black lava stone, which makes it highly distinctive, and visible from a great distance. Its twin spires are 108 meters tall, and tower above the town's rooftops. Definitely worth a visit if you're around. You can also climb up the tower which might be a little exhausting but rewarding. This looks like a remarkable restoration, and I only wish I had more time to explore, especially the crypt, which appeared to be open. For a 12th century restoration, the works appear to be sensitive and the site feels very fresh. We did not locate Puy Pariou easily. No visible sign boards to guide you to Parking des Goules for the hike up. The linked directions send you on a road around its base:-( Once we stumbled on the parking it was a great hike up through the forest to the peak, down into the crater & back up again. We then descended via wooden walkway . I would recommend that you wear good comfy boots or similar, backpack with some basic supplies as it is not commercialized at all :-) Parking space allows you to picnic at your leisure 🍽🍶 - rubbish bins supplied!

But from there it started with the fact that none of the waiters knew what he is giving as an appetizer, they had simply no clue at all, on top of this most of the food already reached a critical temperature where everything was only soggy and no tasty at all. And that was already 5 min after we where allowed to enter the ball room. After we took our seats the next thing came up, the staff had no proper service plan, everyone was running around asking at the same table multiple times for drinks while other tables were completely forgotten about. So it took nearly half an hour until even the first bottle of water was put in place at our table. And it wasn't going to be better from that on. 230 people is already a larger group, but with roughly 8 persons at service it is no big deal to set in the starters within under 10 minutes. But here as well, they where completely unorganized. And so we got our first plate when half of the room had already finished. The real problems where starting with the main dish, every special food order was ignored, the vegetarians and the vegans got first of all the meat dish as well, then it was exchanged, that took more than 30-40min, everyone else was finished at that point, and the surprise was pretty big, because the meat was simply exchanged by a spoon full of green beans everything else was the same, and two baby carrots and an salat leaf are not that much as a side dish. But also for the meat eaters, it was not a pleasant experience, the meat was something in between raw and extra well done, depending witch plate you got, and it was always chewy. The next two dishes were of the same poor quality, and one of it was a cold cheese plate... So all in all it was neither a pleasant or a tasty experience. The staff was friendly no doubt about that, but had definitely now clue what they had to do, or how to serve such a large group. To be clear about this, if done this job for 8 years, and that was an outstanding failure on all fronts, from the kitchen chef down to the waiters. Never again, especially not if you have seen the bill for that. There are way better restaurants around the city.

A small museum of natural history and nature of the region. About an hour for visit, lots of reading, only in French. Free for students. Separate sections devoted to history and minerals. Can be interesting, depending on your interest in nature and knowledge of French, but not everyone might enjoy.

Very interesting museum about the history of science. A part of the museum is dedicated to Blaise Pascal, who was born in Clermont-Ferrand. It stores some of his calculator machines, which were the early predecessors of the modern computer. On the second floor, there is a small geological collection, and some taxidermy. Additionally, there is a collection on the different senses, and there is a temporary exhibition. It is not a super big museum, but definitely nice and interesting to pay a visit. Free entry for students. The only downside was that almost all information is only provided in French, which sometimes makes it hard to read everything when you're not a native speaker.

Small, but nice museum with a very diversified exhibitions. Unfortunately for me everything was in French.

Great collection with both good detail for adults and teens and simple explanations for children (though there's no really in depth stuff on display, ask staff for more). Covers geology, biology, zoology, archaeology as permanent displays. When we visited we arrived when the temporary wildlife habitats exhibition was on. Filled a whole afternoon for just over a tenner for six people!

Nice overview of local traditions, customs and dress. Well worth your time if you are close by. We enjoyed the use of photos to show how tools were used and costumes were worn. Be sure to sign the glass wall.

Gorgeous view at the top!! The hike there is pretty tiresome but the view is well worth it. There is also a tram available for those who don't want to do the hike. Once at the temple most of the information was written in English and German, not just french. There was also a very cute museum to get more history of the site.

Beautiful yet simple. Highly recommend the museum.

The site of the Temple of Mercury ruins is on the summit of the Puy de Dome(H1464m). The Temple was built in the Gallo Romans period (2nd century). There is a small archeological museum called "l'Espace Temple de Mercure" with audio-guides in several languages. Free entry.

Even though it is not all fully there now, they are starting to reconstruct some of it and you can really get a sense of how big it was and how far you could be to see it when it was built in the past.

Perfect place! Make sure to check the train hours in advance... you will need 1 hour at list at the top, so dont come late. You can wal down the volcano, it will take uou about 1 hour. Make sure you bring some warm clothes with you

We were awestruck by the idea of the Romans transporting so much material up here to build such a large temple! That said, only the foundations and very bottom of the walls remain and you can't get anywhere close to the ruins. Impressive, but I hesitate to recommend people take the trip up to the top to see this site it's a lovely bonus to the spectacular views up top.

A cute museum to voyage back in time.

As an international student of Ancient History, I was particularly excited to visit this museum and access its collections. It is, by all reports, an excellent experience. However, on arriving, there was simply a sign on its closed doors stating that it is CLOSED until 18th April 2023. Whilst museum closures for renovation works are completely understandable, there was no mention of this online via any of the official websites (including the regional tourism website). Very disappointed with the lack of communication, and this combined with the lack of public transport to the Puy de Dome temple site in the region meant that there was no accessible ancient history sites within the region. As a result, I cut my stay short (4 hours total) to return to Lyon for a few days, where ancient cultural sites are abundant and excellent.

It was a great visit on the weekend! A must for a family and all age groups 👍

History, from early man (in europe) to medieval times with regional/local archeological samples and explanations of provenance that is well ordered and relevant for Auvergne and Clermont-ferrand. A real gem, set in a beautiful building. Not a "large' collection like many big museums, but very informative. We spent a few hours here pouring over the details of each exhibit and were enthralled. It was just what we were looking for and helped us appreciate Clermont-ferrand even more.
