The Anchor Lodge Bed & Breakfast is an excellent value B&B on the sea front over looking Roker Pier in Sunderland. Almost all of the rooms have ensuite facilities and digital TVs. They are clean and have excellent sea views. A very tasty full English breakfast is available and is freshly cooked. Overall great value if you are visiting the North East.

It’s support of living place and the staff are rude and don’t understand why half them allowed work with disability people, the whole house is disgusting and my family member is never right support that she is supposed having. Whole place is joke not worth living there or staff rude to family member

Some fabulous exhibitions with somone on hand to explain processes if you're interested. Lovely little shop with some fab stuff ( yes I did). Cafe great homemade food. Cakes, scones, leaf tea. Definitely worth a visit. Then you can walk along the riverside. Don't miss this before they VERY SADLY re-locate it in 2026.

This is about the cafe.. Not the centre exhibitions. Visited twice this year so far. Both times the car park payment meter was broken. That's fine as far as it goes because we parked for free ( £3.20 for 2 hours is the normally rate) but it does say something about the general management. The roof, with its glass panels, is still closed. The sculpture at the front is gone. This time we came for lunch oh dear ... The cafe servers good coffee but the food is beyond basic. Sandwiches, soup, baked potatoes (cheese, beans or tuna... Not exactly exciting..), fish and chips, veg lasagne. Around £6. Children's meals, fish fingers etc, are £4.95 which is a real rip off. Lovely shop and we have seen glass blowing in the past which is wonderful.

I spent less than an hour in National Glass Centre. The venue is small but still I saw some stunning art pieces made of glass. Unfortunately, I missed the free glass blowing demonstration, but I didn’t even know they offered one until I got there. It would have been even better if I have timed my visit to see the demo in action.

Excellent place to visit. My little boy (Age 5) was asking how you curve glass so brought him to here & watched the demo on making a glass vase. He loved it and there was lots of other things for him to do here like jigsaws, drawing, playing with blocks. Great place for learning and having fun

Easy to find. Decent parking. Had to pay for the parking though 😒. Long ramp down to the centre which does have lifts so ok for wheel chair users. At certain times you can watch experts make glass things which is really cool and a Boffin tells you all about it. Recommend you sit at the back, quite a heat comes off the furnaces. Toilets clean. Cafe food ok. Recommend you do not order between the showing times of the glass works as it took 45 minutes from ordering for the food to arrive. It was not worth the 45 minute wait in my opinion. Perhaps if the glass centre did some shuffling around with hand on deck at the cafe at lunch time and maybe had its “business meeting” customers have their bit elsewhere. I noticed the same 3 people at the same table before and after I saw the glass making. The shop is amazing. I will be making a trip back just to get some lovely gifts for people.

Visited this amazing place with my 3 adult daughters as part of my BD weekend treat. If you like glass in any form you'll love this place. We watched a great glass blowing demo where the resident glass sculptor formed a beautiful 'RUBY RUBY RUBY' bowl from a blob of white hot glass "fabulous". The gift shop has a great selection for all tastes and pockets....the marbles section will take you right back the playground. And I have a beautiful blue vase to remind me of a great morning with my girls. Deffo worth a visit 🏺🥂🧿🪩

It’s definitely worth a trip to see the NGC in Sunderland - lots of fascinating things to see, lovey location and a nice cafe, the highlight for us was the glass blowing demonstration though, it was fantastic!

A superb exhibition of beautiful glass work from around the globe including locally. The demonstration of glass blowing was enthralling. Comments about the cafe are quite wrong in my experience. It was a wonderful place and the food and coffee in the cafe very acceptable. Maybe grumblers are yoiks themselves?

Because of storm damage there is less to see. Downstairs is closed. Great glass exhibition is currently on. Gift shop and soon to open coffee shop.

We visited the National Glass Centre in Sunderland as a school trip. During the morning, we completed some investigations around reversible and irreversible changes. We then watched a glass blowing workshop where we were able to see the changes in glass – from a molten liquid into a solid. Finally, we were able to complete a glass fusing workshop. We designed our own tile using glass squares, grains, and sticks to make our design. Nigel, our guide was really friendly and patient with us and made our day at the Glass Centre a beautiful experience.

Beautiful place to walk through and explore. I had an iced latte at the cafe and walked along the river. There is plenty of seating in the cafe and outside. The displays are breathtaking, as is the glass blowing demonstration. The center is free. The front desk helped me get a taxi when it started raining, the lady was lovely.

Had a fantastic day, every thing was amazing. Great to keep kids entertained,our nephew said it's the best day he's had. Especially the staff,Stef was his favourite,she was great with him,still talking about her when we got home, so thank you Stef. Had a lovely light lunch, staff there were great too. The National Glass Centre is an absolute treasure! This captivating venue beautifully celebrates the art and craft of glassmaking. From stunning exhibitions that showcase the versatility and beauty of glass to engaging workshops and demonstrations, there's something for everyone to enjoy and learn from. The architecture of the building itself is a masterpiece, blending seamlessly with the riverside surroundings. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate making every visit memorable. The National Glass Centre is a must-visit destination in Sunderland.

Once you actually find your gate it is a long way up to the sky where you watch a game of subbuteo. The stadium is good for a third level club. However don't linger in the area outside for long. Suggest you leave quickly.

Was there for an Ed Sheran concert. Stadium is fine, staff are great, prices about what you would expect. Traffic management is a joke. No supervision at all after the concert from stewards or police. Putting cars and drunk pedestrians on the same path is simply an accident waiting to happen. Will not be visiting this venue again until they sort that out. Ed Sheran was fantastic even if you're not an out and out fan like me. He is a great showman.

It was lovely to visit Stadium of light. Though I came for graduation ceremony of University of Sunderland. The facilities look good and the hospitality staff very friendly. I have to come again to watch a game.

Nice stadium of the beautiful club Sunderland AFC. Good facilities for 90’s standards. We went for the match against QPR which unfortunately ended in 0-0. More than 41,000 people attending, excellent attendance for a Championship club and testament of the local support through thick and thin. Crowd lately with low expectations after 5 losses and dropping out of the playoffs ranking. As a result little chanting and crowd interaction other than the usual complaints in the typical Northeastern fashion. Let’s hope next season brings better fortunes for Sunderland AFC and promotion to the Premier League.

I was worried for attending such a busy and crowded event while pregnant but it was all safe and good organized. Only annoying bit was when people had to stand up to let people get past you, first to get drinks and then when they had toilet needs, too often.

Fantastic venue for a concert. Especially your favourite artist. Ample loo facilities, there was plenty of food favourite facilities for food and drinks. Bottles of water £3.50 at the bar, outside in catering vans were as bad at £2.50

I recently visited the football stadium and was overall impressed with my experience. The high capacity of the stadium ensures a vibrant atmosphere during matches, and its convenient location with easy access adds to the overall positive impression. However, navigating the stairs in the away end proved challenging, and the stadium's distance from the southern and central cities might be inconvenient for some travelers. Despite these drawbacks, the overall experience was enjoyable, making it a solid 4-star venue.

This was a treat from my neighbour and good pal Dan...I've never been to a football match in my life and it was on my bucket list.. Totally shocked by all the people cheering...great atmosphere..just unfortunate Sunderland lost 3.0... Many thanks to my Pal Dan for the experience

Great day out. Took my 10 year old son on new years day and a few times in 2023. Sat in different parts of the ground to find where he likes best to eventually lead him to become a season ticket holder.

First time at the stadium. Very impressive when you walk out into the stadium. Stewards Very friendly and helpful. Catering staff terrible..no patience..mo understanding of customer needs..rudecat times. And as for the food Absolutely disgusting ..I had avegan pie..it never touched my lips...the inside was all on the outside. It was very slimey..soaky pastry on the bottom rock hard pastry on the top. Went straight in the bin. There were no other vegetarian or vegan options . Can't say the rest of the food lood any better. Pukka Pies disgusting.. So guys, beware and take your own food . But take that away, and as a family, we had a great day away .

Visited over the weekend after a gap of several years. Excellent hospitality, Sunderland really rolled out the red carpet making all of us visitors feel welcome in their home stand. Black Cats bar has been recently redecorated & looks far better than before. Only issue on the day was the WiFi went down meaning that card machines in the bars stopped working. Hats off to the hosts though as they actually gave drinks away for free to those who didn't have cash. Really good day out, can't wait to return.

Amazing 1st time at football to see the lionesses. Felt safe and welcome. Staff were excellent even the lady that waited with us in the long park n ride queue

100% fact! The North East is simply the best when it comes to a match day atmosphere! Sunderland fans were superb! Went to all the boozers and had no trouble whatsoever. Great club, great fans, and a great city. From a Bolton Wanderers fan. All the best!

The playground is great for kids. It's not getting the full 5 stars as it can get very uddy and full of puddles, even at the height of summer. The rest of the park is great for walks, there are toilet facilities and a café.

Lovely area and walk. Plenty of wildlife and doggos to see and everyone on the walk that we passed were very friendly. It was easy enough to get there with plenty of parking - extra parking down the road from the main car park. There is a children’s park nearby the car park and toilets. Finished the walk with some ice cream and it was an all round nice place! Would return again to take my dog for a walk.

Wonderful park. Large and open, even on busy days you can walk for a while without encountering anyone else. Beautiful bird ponds and a great view of Penshaw Monument.

Although very wet and muddy, I hadn't visited the park before. It is a vast open space with lots of places to explore. Well worth a visit, especially in dryer and warmer weather!

Lovely place for a walk with the dogs, and the other half. Free parking, and although car parks were busy, you don't see many people because of the sheer size of the place. Quite a flat walk, but nearly managed to walk 6 miles. Will be back again to have a venture up to Penshaw monument. Dropped a star, as there's plenty of bins, so why do dog walkers pick up their poos and dump them??? Shame the amount of full dog poo bags around the place, no need for it.

Large country park with great paths ideal for prams and wheelchairs etc. Large lake with smaller water like fishing lake and lily ponds. The park has a amphitheatre in the middle also cafe and toilets 🚻 on site. Great sculptures are the park aswell as a miners memorial garden. A must visit while at penshaw monument.

This country park is fantastic. So much space and so much to see. The views from different parts of the park are amazing. There is plenty of free parking and a huge kids play area. We spent 2 hours here and could easily have spent longer

A great place for fresh air and a park walk. Lakes full of swans, ducks, geese and other wild birds and plenty of car parking and seats around the paths. Ideal place to take families for picnics, ride their bikes and just have fun. Only rated 4 stars as although an ideal place also to take your dogs for walks, spoilt by thoughtless dog owners discarding their dogs poo bags on trees and just on the paths, trees and hedge rows. Along with cans and plastic bottles randomly discarded after use by the thoughtless few, instead of keeping till a bin located, or taken home. Why is it so hard for some?

Loved it, like McDonald's 😍 Educational, interesting and so much to buy in the gift shop. Unfortunately the cafe and toilets was closed because of plumbing issues. Didn't spoil the day.

i didn’t know what to expect but i really liked it. i’ve never seen so many different types of plants in different types of climates all in one small place. it’s not really that small but they’ve done great job of fitting so many into one place. plus they’ve got a dinosaur theme which was awesome

Nice place to kill an hour or two. Not the museums fault, but beware of screaming kids and groups of obnoxiously loud teenagers. Aside from that loved the Grayson Perry exhibition!

One of the nicest winter gardens. The tree top walk is short but so enjoyable ... You can see different parts of Sunderland from it; city centre and the beach. The museum has some good exhibitions and keeps kids occupied for a couple hours. There is a lovely little shop in with some souvenirs and also a library with some good book options for kids. Enjoy your visit.

Came for the first time in 4 years to show my 2 year old granddaughter. A little disappointed by the number of things not working..... The worst being the lift in the winter gardens. No way for a buggy or wheelchair to get to the viewing level. One walkway closed off. Bits of the exhibits broken. Various dinosaurs half heartedly hidden in the foliage... One fallen sideways. Still got the lion and the fish though!

Went first time on Easter half term with 7 and 5 years old. So much to see🤩 Kids really enjoyed and me too. Park with playground just across the street. Highly recommended. Free entry

Winter gardens weren't open due to essential maintenance work. Lovely museum. My son's 2 so we only really came in to see the fish.

Wow. Just relocated up north . Visited this with family. It's brilliant. Inside winter tropical gardens is wow. Has a little waterfall. Koi karp in pond You can go up in the lift to get a fantastic view. Out back is the gardens pond .Park area. There is the library. Amazing feature on life n times down the coal mines. Upstairs. Has a feature on 200yrs old paintings in the art gallery As a few hours out n about if the weather is good grab a picnic to eat to . I thought this was brilliant and the gift shop. Please give a donation to keep this going for many more generations excelled for all ages . I.ll definitely be going back . And getting a gift from that lovely gift store to. Highly recommended

Great place to spend a wet Bank Holiday Monday. Lots of interesting exhibits from Mining to Glass and Shipbuilding to Pottery. Loved the life through the 20th century exhibit. The Winter Garden is lovely with some very impressive plants. Not so keen on the cheap plastic dinosaurs, though, and I'm not convinced they do much to keep children interested. We had tea and cake in the cafe which was very nice. Definitely pleased we visited.

Good displays, even has a smallish display on the miners strike. Free in! Opposite Weatherspoons! What more can you want?

Very great place, and a good view from the top of the lighthouse out to sea. Lots of information around the museum and lots to see including the diesel engine that was used to power the lighthouse. It is a great visit if you are interested in things like that, and you can also have live demonstrations of the lighthouse as it is still in working order! Would definitely recommend!

Lovely place to come and visit especially if you have dogs as you can go for a walk first tire them out then you can visit the lighthouse and learn the history of it. The staff were absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. Climbing to the top of the lighthouse all 74 steps is a great way of burning that scone you had before hand.

Amazing experience in lighthouse. You have to pay for admission in reception or use national trust membership to get the discount. Please check the official website. Tou can go in higher level of lighthouse which has a giant light. The staffs will help you and explain you in any section. Also they have the climbing experience for people from top of the lighthouse to down but you have to book it in advance and has a cost per person. Nice experience

The light house is worth a visit. Alot of interactive information about how the lighthouse ran, though there are steep stairs to get to the top. If you climb to the top, you're welcomed with amazing views and a national trust staff member who explains how the light works, and you might even get a demo. Outside the lighthouse, in the summer, there is an amazing poppy field, don't miss it, the pictures show lovely it is!

What a lovely walk to the lighthouse. Some car parks are chargeable. There are some walkways however can be quite boggy so walking boots are a must. We stopped for coffee and snack at the cafe which is dog friendly would definitely recommend.

Nice place for a cliff top walk, take in that sea air. Probably best on a nice warm sunny day, but they have a small cafe. Avoid the sandwiches they're bloody expensive.

Didn't venture into the actual light house, but as you would expect from the National Trust, it looked well kept, freshly painted and tidy grounds.

Beautiful historical lighthouse to look at. We stopped by at Souter lighthouse at beautiful weather. Had a quick walk to see the cliff / coast. Beautiful area. Inside tour, little shop and toilets available. Parking needs coins (no card/no phone) or NT member card.

I went with my mom's age concern group in order to help out with the allotment there. The location is excellent, great part of the north east seaside, easy to travel too. Very convenient parking which helps fund the national trust, but was very accommodating to my moms disability needs. The cafe is brilliant, great selection of homemade baked food and coffee. I didn't have time to fully visit the visitor centre and tour of the lighthouse building but what i saw looked accessible and educational and pleasant. I enjoyed my visit.

Even on a rainy day a brilliant place to visit. Lots to discover, climb to the top of the lighthouse to see the amazing views. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Cafe serves the most amazing cheese and onion pasty I've ever tasted and prices are reasonable too. Then a walk along the coast again amazing views either side of the lighthouse.

It's definitely worth the visit. We came in through the shop entrance and was greeted by a very enthusiastic and happy man. The buildings were a pleasure to explore without the usual guided ropes, and we very much enjoyed the engine room with giant compressed air tanks. The steps up the Lighthouse weren't too difficult, until they turn into a ladder style, but my 4 year old managed them OK. The volunteer at the top of the Lighthouse was brilliant, very knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed his role. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit, thank you!!

Great visit on a lovely day. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. They took time to explain the mechanics, the history and the view from the top. The stairs are fine if you take them slowly. However the last 20 or so are more like a ladder so depends on your physical ability. Great cafe on site and small NT shop. Lovely walks on the cliffs with places to get down to the sea.

It might not be the largest of Military Museums but it is packed full of history and was well worth the visit while up in the area. We got a lot of insight into the displays from the volunteers on site, and it was great to listen to some of the stories from years gone by. And not to forget one of the best parts is they have an Avro Vulcan on display, and we got told the story of the Vulcan that crashed locally with no injuries to crew or members of the public.

We visited NELSAM on a Sunday, it was cold but sunny. We paid as a family ticket in the entrance office, the guy in the office wasn’t very enthusiastic, but the museum cost is cheap to be fair. We started in the main muses which is really well laid out, and has lots of memorabilia. It leads to a big hanger that’s loaded with planes to have a look at. We did think some of the planes could have done with some better info. The harrier definitely could have done with something, we had to guess what plane it was. The hanger was really cold, it was actually warmer outside, something to consider when going. There was quite a few places to see really interesting stuff, the Nissan , trucks , trams etc was interesting for me. Like I said, there’s loads to see and it’s bigger than we thought. The best thing for me personally was the huge Vulcan that’s outside, what a piece of kit. A guy came over to us after a while, he gave us a bit of a personal tour, inviting the kids to sit on a keep, a jet training seat, passenger plane etc, he really went out his way to make it more interesting. One the whole, if there was more placards explaining, informing what we were looking at, it would be a 5/5. I guess some people will know what they’re looking at, some may not be interested, but I’d have liked more. We spent 2 hours there, we didn’t rush, but I think 4 hours would be too long.

Always a great couple of hours with my little lad. Added more planes since last visit particularly impressed with the Tornado and the Lightning.

Great visit with the family. Vulcan bomber was a highlight but really hadn't expected to be able to sit in the cockpit. Absolutely fantastic experience worth the admission alone. No cafe on site only criticism.

Brilliant little museum (situated behind the nissan factory SR5) with some interesting pieces, particularly the Vulcan which we had the opportunity to sit in at a recent car show there. Lots of things for people of all ages. Would be good to see some more interactive stuff for people interested in the mechanical and electrical aspects, although there is lots of information on the history of some of these aircraft. The site isn't huge so you aren't going to spend all day there but a morning or afternoon is a great use of family time. There's also a little park and play area for the kids and some benches so I guess you could take some food and drink for a mini picnic. Look out for other events like the classic car show too so you can combine two things at once. Entry was around £6.50 which is great value or a family of 4 was £18 .. hard to find stuff to do for this kind of money these days! Payable on entry at the little shop at the main gates.

Brilliant! It's not very big, so it doesn't take long to get around. The volunteers are very friendly and helpful, I can't speak highly enough about them. They are happy to spend time talking and educating you and actually seem to enjoy talking about the planes, etc. The vulcan is awesome! They even showed us the atomic bomb the vulcan once carried. My kids loved it, you can even take the dog.🐕 AAA+

Went many times as a child, took my toddler this afternoon and had a great time. Lots to see, shame some of it looks a bit shabby, but if they don't get support they can't afford to look after it. All in all nice few hours walking round slowly looking at the exhibits and lots of different things to see.

It's nice but not worth it. What did they charging. All plans are covered with dust and rust. A few planes have descriptions and some engines on the floor, which makes it hurt to anyone.

Plenty to see and its spread over a few buildings. Short of volunteers which is a shame but the volunteers there when we visited were great, very knowledgeable and helpful. Great for all ages.

Had a lovely walk around the museum nice friendly welcome lots to see. Very impressed with displays & exhibits definatley well worth a visit just outside Newcastle will be going back lots of great aircraft to see and many interesting items not just aircraft.

Museum is great, kids loved learning about the planes and tanks. There could be more on offer in the little tearoom bit as it is quite far from anything else. Unlikely to have a picnic on a rainy day. Pleasant staff!

Great place loved the staff so kind and helpful and happy to talk about the history. There was a wonderful selection of aircraft and cars. The outdoor aircraft were in a far better condition than the national Air museums aircraft, which look like the aircraft came from a scrap yard. Also, a nice little section to remember those lost in combat missions. Would highly recommend it (the gift shop was nice)

The museum is very interesting and informative with the history of many of the exhibits. You can go inside some of the vehicles.

Great place to visit. Interesting items with local connections. Good to see current restoration projects. Dress warmly as the site is windswept. Toilets, small shop but no cafe.

Staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. The food was poor though. The seasoned chips were just plain with no seasoning. The stacked burger just looked like something thrown though the microwave. Very poor. Other than that, we had a good night.

Never been dog racing before. But what a great night out. We really got into it. The people here were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going again.

Regardless of the fixture the facilities could have offered so much more place for a free event should have been heaving but with no food on offer after 3ish nor no cold drinks on a hot summers day can see why the place was empty

We went for the trackside restaurant the service was brilliant and view of track from table was the best available. Reasonable priced drinks and a good quality pint. The only negative from the whole night was the chicken was a bit dry(but I still ate it). A very good night for all.

Were here on Friday 17th November paid but were not told upstairs was closed £7 to go in a room that was packed the toilets no toilet roll in two cubicles then no hand dryers working not acceptable we left but no one on front desk as would asked for my money back cramming people into one room

A really good morning and great Sunday lunch

The worst poker setup I've ever experienced. I won't be back. I entered the Texas hold'em tournament and during my re entry I had to get cash from the cash machine just 20 yards away on my return a set of chips I had not yet paid for where in play and I had been blinded out loosing a small chunk of what was already a short starting stack. The setup here is just an absolute shambles. Needs a lot of work to get to other G casino standards.

Great place for socialising not just for gambling. Staff are great and good food also. We are going for our Wedding Anniversary Xmas Dinner and probably for New Year's Eve.

Did the Cinema and Meal deal pay £12 for a cinema ticket and a meal in the casino after and you also get a drink included, Wasn't expecting much from the food but we was pleasantly surprised I got the cajun chicken breast which was very moist in a lovely bun, My partner got a steak medium rare which was cooked perfectly, The side of onion rings was also 👌 We will definitely be back again soon, Been back using same deal I got Cajun chicken again and my partner went for the smothered chicken both excellent.

It's ok for a bit of entertamment it's a liitle quit the drinks are cheap for a casino the pizza was nice they do black jack rolullet and poker slots and so on but I would not advice you to gamble when drunk unless it's just for a bit

Went for a managers dinner (which was very nice) and live music on Saturday night with my wife. The singer was Alex Hall (you can find him on Facebook) We have been to a few of these functions now at the casino. Unfortunately because of the layout of the restaurant and stage, they are not near each other, so you can hear the singer, but not see him whilst you dine, which is a shame. However on this occasion Alex was fantastic and left the stage to "croon" amongst us whilst we ate. Great choice of songs too! So 5* for that "cabaret" feel Alex. Top man👍👍👍 we'll be back.

Casino looks like an amusements section from a fun fair, the music and the slot machines sound trying to over power each other (annoying) no promotion no atmosphere no customers, the staff look bored on the tables, the staffs attitude very unprofessional, hearing them bad mouth the company and management just sit back and let them get on it, the bar I’m afraid to order a drink incase the banging of the til will end up breaking it I’ve seen people who are dying happier, no hospitality or interaction.. entrance in the building It looks like something out of the the pass machine on the metro no welcoming attraction … it could do a lot better if there wasn’t out dated point of sale … shame

If you want to unwind, to have peace of mind for a while, come to one of the parks here in Sunderland, the Mowbray Park. You can bring your dogs, it has a playground where the kids can play and you can walk around to feel the nature

Gorgeous park, well worth a visit while you're in the city. Filled with wildlife also, with ducks and swans in the pond, to squirrels and rabbits in the bushes. The pond does start to smell a little in the summer, however it is not too offensive. The smell is the only think keeping the park from 5 stars for me. Enjoy!

I love this park, it was one of my favourites as a child and now I'm a lot older I still make sure to walk through it on the way to school. The children's playground has good equipment and is often a very sociable place for a child to be, the park makes for a great day out with anyone really. It is kept really clean and is tended to by a group of gardeners which would be happy to help if you were lost or wondered about the park. I also walk my dog there every weekend and the rule to keep dogs on leads and no bikes to be ridden through makes for a lovely calming walk for my dog with really bad social anxiety. The pond/small lake is full of birds and a few turtles and fish. The local ecosystem is great with diversity in wild life ( e.g., there is squirrels, rabbits, birds, etc) and there are many flowers and tree species. I'm writing the review after the festival of light was held there and it was amazing and the park is undergoing a clean up still to make sure it is restored to its original state before the show. There are messages in places if you know where to look and it is a really relaxing area. Would recommend to everyone of all ages! The photos included are off the light show.

Lovely park found in my home city of Sunderland. Great monuments of famous people from the area. Cenotaph with a new veterans walk very moving. A museum as well plus the Winter Gardens a glass house with a high level walkway. Also a great play park for children and a large lake for wild life.

Criminally underrated by the local public. Beautiful little park that is very well maintained throughout the year

A leisure spot for a morning or an afternoon. Best place for walk dog. Beautiful scenery. Lake, trees and Knolls construct pretty pictures in a town.

What a very boring place that's not changed for years and years but some things just never change. There are some fantastic parks in Newcastle and Gateshead that inspire and captivate yet Rocker park and the whole of Sunderland is just so utterly depressing I just don't want to set foot upon its rubbish and rat infested streets ever again. Sunderland is only significant for the invention of the Monkey Rat, not to forget Peter Reid and his Monkeys heed.

Really a great place for going with family and kids. Epic view of the sea and the beach from the hilltop.

Lovely new cafe called Ruhr which has only just opened. The coffee was great and hopefully the problem with the technology will be ok soon. Staff were great. Could do with a waste bin in the immediate area!!!

Another brilliant display at this year's Festival of Light. This is a very popular event and rightly so. Apart from the themed light up figures there is an eating area, toilets, vendors selling led things for the kids. If you need to catch your breath there are plenty of park benches to do so, including beside the duck pond. All of this for £3 ticket. Well done to all who organised this event. A lovely well maintained park, clean and tidy. Well worth a visit, for leisure, exercise or just for relaxation. Close to the sea, with some amazing views. Well worth a visit.

A great park that links straight down to the beautiful coast and bars along the promenade. Park is always in great condition and tidy, has a brilliant play park for older and younger children, miniature trainlines that are frequently manned by volunteers a pond and much more. Puts on an impressive show for the illuminations every winter as well.

I went here to see Roker Park illuminations. Great family fun. Money well spent. I have allso been here during the average day not to bad to have a walk around. If you go through Roker Park it will give people with disabilities access to the beach wich is also a pleasant place to go.

It was good, as usual, except the mini train rides weren’t working. Nice weather. Could be nicer with more warm weather. Overall it was good

Three feral ducks have been dumped on the pond and they are chasing all of the other birds away. There are no ducklings at all this year which is probably a good thing as these ducks would have killed them. Perhaps the council could remove them?

Lovely clean well kept park. Kiddies playpark, adult exercise park, kiddies ride along train, duck/boating pond, bowling greens . Refurb/building in progress of a new cafe area

Lot's of new lights this year and love the ticketed time slots, means the park isn't too busy. However the entrance could be better sign posted and clearer directions round the park would be good in future. Disabled and pet friendly!

We went for the illuminations last week which was really good with plenty to see. Our little lad loved the miniature train which only required a donation. The fire and water show was good as well for little ones.

We visit here regularly with our dog and he love's it, loverly Park to walk around and has a designated children's play area....

Great park for a nice gentle walk which seems very accessible. As I've only visited during the illuminations I've not walked around this park during the day so can't really comment on much else. Though for events this park seems ideal. If you've got little kids I'd recommend going to visit in the early evening just as it's getting dark, if you leave it any later they might struggle to see any attractions past the sea of people!

Been to a kids' birthday party, hear. I've not been in before, but I think it's a hidden gem. Will be back, excellent memorabilia. Thanks you

I'm not a huge football fan, but I find it hard to pass on a free museum. And I'm really glad I visited. It's a small museum which you'd spend very little time in if it wasn't for the amazing guide we had who really knew his stuff. Lots of football memorabilia, all with great stories.

This place is unbelievable. Its a credit to the owner and its invaluable volunteers who help out. Free to enter and the memorabilia on show is a joy to behold for any football fan. Parking outside makes it easier too. On a non match day it's easier to take your time to look around. Just brilliant

A great free museum for things Sunderland AFC a must for any fan or just football fan

Lovely little bar just off the road with lots of outdoor seating. Visited as we were going to see p!nk, they had her songs playing outside and a very nice atmosphere.

Had a lovely time walking round the museum lots to see lovely memories. Met by a lovely man at the door who showed us round the full museum worth a visit.

This is a fantastic place & can't recommend it enough. The staff & volunteers are brilliant. Even if you don't like football it's still an interesting place to visit

If you're a Sunderland fan or just love football history, this is a must visit place. Red and white memorabilia in abundance, accompanied by a cafe and licensed bar. All this and its free entry! Even better atmosphere for pre drinks before a home match

International Fans Day, they went all out to making us feel welcome. Bar staff were so friendly l, even going out to get us more of a particular drink when they ran out of stock.

Sunderland as a fan base, and football as a community are privileged to have places like this. Took my sons there today and would urge anyone with an interest in the sport to pay a visit and support this amazing museum. An absolute credit to the hard work and dedication to those involved in the running of it. Will definitely be back for a pre match pint when the new season gets underway.

Take a pleasant tour of what is possibly the oldest church in England AD674. The venerable Bede trained there as an eight year old. It contains a very detailed and ornate glass window. See photo. The closer you look the more details you can see. The church also has a nice cafe with very cheap prices. All within 5 minutes walk from the National Glass Centre, so could be a combined visit.

Wonderful Saxon church, friendly man showed us round and told us all about it. 5 minute visit is enough. We parked at the Glass museum and walked round

Went to St Paul's Jarrow the day before so was expecting a pleasant experience here at one of its sister sites but there was opera playing on the speaker system, so not able to sit and reflect in the church in quiet. Also staff or other volunteers contradicting each other regarding the places I could access.

I was born in Sunderland and knew very little of the history in St Peter's church. I was treated to a personal tour by Eddie, a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic historian, who volunteers at the church. Very beautiful and interesting to visit. There is also a café which uses food grown in their own garden

This church is beautifully maintained and a guide through it is essential when visiting Sunderland as the history of the place is iconic. Gardens surrounding are also well maintained and peaceful for a walk around.

7th century church. Amazing and beautiful building along a vast yard makes the place perfect for a rest with the family. There is a parking lot at the gates of the church yard.

Although the body of the church, founded in the second half of the 7th century by Benedict Biscop and in which the manuscript now known as the Codex Amiatinus was made, has been changed in later centuries, the tower and western archway are just as they were when the Venerable Bede would have been a regular visitor to study in the monastic library around the year 700AD.

Beautiful church were bede lived from age of 7, wasn't open to public today but worth the visit, interesting history laid out in the grounds with dates and facts, ample parking and plenty of seats , ground even and good for the less able to use, quiet even though the road is nearby, also linked to St. Pauls in Jarrow.

Visited today, very impressive, volunteers were extremely knowledgeable and made the visit most interesting. Classic Car Exhibition at Ryhope Water Pump Station was brilliant today. Fabulous atmosphere and Keith Bell organised the whole event marvellously. 1st Class Day as always!

We went along to visit the Museum and the Steampunk stalls. Everyone was very friendly and the grounds were lovely and clean. The museum has a very small gift shop and donation box; the pencils were 20p each. They only sell a few items all at amazing prices. I can remember seeing pencils, rulers, badges and postcards.

I went with a classic car on one of Ryhopes' special open days. The entry was free, and the machinery was operating. There were knowledgeable volunteers to explain the workings, a blacksmiths forge, stalls selling automotive memorabilia and bric a brac. There were also drinks and hot snacks for sale. The car shows here happens only twice a year and the machinery isn't operating every day. Worth a visit for a couple of hours, even on a normal day.

Pump station hosted a classic car show, very well attended with a mix of cars. Pump house open to the public with the vast steam engine running, very interesting and mesmerising to watch.

Great place to visit with kids or on your own, it's also free. Ran by highly knowledgeable guide's who are more than happy to explain and interact with visitor's

This museum is open weekends and usually has a rally or theme, but check the website to be sure. Great little cafe ran by volunteers.

It's great. Part of our North East heritage. Worth a visit. Free entry. Cafe serving home made cakes and sandwiches etc. Fair pricing too- not extortionate. Small museum inside the cafe building and then the beautiful architecture where the water pumping equipment is and sometimes someone is doing blacksmithing. I can't think of any bad points.

This is one amazing piece of engineering which must be preserved. It is well worth a visit especially on their steam days when the pump is actually working. We have visited previously so check the website as they have steam dates with classic cars etc. on site. There is a lovely little cafe with excellent staff selling food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Incredible museum with wonderful people. One of the volunteers, Mike, gave me an amazing guided tour around, explaining all the workings of the pump house. Seeing 150 year old machinery in motion and working flawlessly is amazing to witness.

Car show today free entry some amazing old school motors great people car loads of rare spare parts for good prices

We visited twice last weekend when the engines were running. It is an excellent place to visit if you like historical engines. The staff were very helpful and explained the engines and boilers in detail. There was an exhibition on with old army vehicles and equipment which was a good bonus.

End of season steam weekend . Historic pumping station for water . The volunteers are friendly and helpful and do great job in keeping it running . Plenty of parking , Toilets and cafe . It's a must to go and see the engineers skill and strength of days gone by . Poetry in motion

If you like historical places t his is a good place to go to nice couple of hours out very informative there are no disabled parking spaces you park on the grass there are no toilets as well

Was at a car show there but went in the museum. Unbelievable engineering and ran by a team of friendly helpful volunteers. Great food and drink on sale too

Lived here for 15 year and never been in. Went past with the dog and noticed a car show on so I decided to have a look. The car show was great but then I went into the steam room. Wow! I was so impressed. I didn't realise how big it was. Great piece of history I would recommend seeing.
