Really nice view with alot of resturants near by and shopping stores

A picturesque lake in the center of town, leading to the see. A great place for a rest and a cup of coffee while exploring the town and the nearby tourist market.

Very nice lake, especially during the night you can take some great pictures there. On one spot the rock and the water is illuminated with a purple light. This makes it look very cool during the night. There is also a small chapel next to the lake.

We have seen the place I n July .Is too hot but is beautiful .Many oleanders in bloom scentet the air ,near the lake we found a bunch of lazy ducks and geese.We took the stairs and saw the lake ,the city and the see .Wiew is amazing . Everywhere nice tavernas of small shops who sale frozen goat yoghurt . Love it!

A very beautiful place with a nice small lake but very special, because it's twisting and connecting to the sea and beside the lake, there are very nice, romantic and authentic buildings. Also, it is very recommended to climb up the stairs and watch from above the lake.

It seems that it is not a lake, it is just a small bay or kind of laguna connected with the sea. But it looks beautiful. There are lot of cozy restaurants around. A nice place to have a quality meal.

Nice beach when there is no garbage. From far away the water looks crystal clear and clean, but once you get closer you can often see microplastic floating on the surface, especially when there are waves. There is a bar on the beach and they basically covered the whole beach with sunbeds and umbrellas which are overpriced. The personnel is very unfriendly to the people who are not renting sunbeds. It's a shame that the bar is destroying such a nice beach with lots of plastic.

Very nice, but at this time of the year full of microplastics and litter in the water and the sand!!!! If it wasn't for that it'd be a paradise, with transparent waters and not very windy. However, here is where you see the big plastic pollution issue that the island must address right away. Such a pity to see a beautiful beach turned into a dump.

Very beautiful beach the most warm one as well , it's in a good area, at the top of the beach there is a nice restaurant "Kavos" they have great food and they are all very friendly, also their menu is in many languages so if you don't know English very well they have at least 6 different languages. There is also kids play area The owner is very nice and makes you feel like home The meals are big so after a nice day in the beach you will for sure enjoy it 🏖

Beautiful beach but the water is very dirty. There’s a lot of plastic waste touching you when you are swimming. It’s very unpleasant. You can rent sunbeds with an umbrella for 15 euros for 2. It’s better to arrive early because it’s a very crowded beach. However, we found parking easily. In conclusion, I do not recommend, it was my least favorite beach in Crete.

Perfect water. Turquoise crystal clear, with fine sand. The beach itself has a more crowded part (easy to get to, on some stairs) and also has a further part where its a bit rocky road to go by car, but do’able, and not so many people. Everywhere there are umbrellas and sunbeds to rent if you want. Overall its a bit crowded beach, at least in july. But totally worth it, definitely recommend going for the water🤩 2’nd day review: we went back the next day. Because of the wind, there were some waves and ofc the water was not as crystal clear as the day before. But the main issue was the amount of plastic pieces in the water, some small, some big, disturbing. Its a pitty this is what happens to waters everywhere because of the huge amounts of trash.

I think due to high winds and waves, the water was disgusting. It was filled with plastic. You couldn't see a cm without plastic.. basically you had to swim through plastic and water.. I hope things will improve, because the location is lovely. Would come back if the plastic situation would improve.. Sunbeds 10/20 euros. After 12 00 you might not find a free umbrella. There s great Internet if you need to work (cosmote). The staff is polite and kind, decent service. Plenty of food options. (Burgers/sandwiches/ cocktails).

Awesome beach, amazing sea views! Can easily spend a whole lazy day there! Go there early to book a nice place as places are quite limited. It's possible to lay on the towels or bring a small tent also 👌

Super beach, with fine sand and crystal clear water. You have to go in the morning, in the afternoon, the beach gets crowded. 2 sunbeds + umbrelă 10€ or 20€ at VIP.

Very clear, warm waters and family friendly atmosphere. It's a little small, not that much room. You have to get there early to grab a sunbed and umbrella. Some plastic floating around the waters, but they have a guy who cleans up as much as he can. Very beautiful beach and view

We absolutely loved that beach, because of its cosiness and charm. It has crocheted parasols and nice beige sunbeds, sandy shore and a nice bar, that serves all kind of drinks and food, so of you feel hungry at certain point, don't worry about it. Surrounded by cliffs, has a great view and crystal clear water! Definitely recommend.

The vest each even in east Crete. Clear waters and comfy sunbeds. Lovely bar with great views over the calm, turquoise water. Beach shoes recommended. Although it's a sandy beach I've been stung by a weever fish.

One of the most beautiful beaches in northern region of Crete. Two sunbeds and parasol are 10€. Water is crystal clear, with white sand. Sea is quiet refreshing and you can go snorkel.

Nice blue sea...sunbeds are 2 for €10. Worth taking a picnic...or the servers are constantly available to get food or drinks for you from the nearby bar. From bags of crisps to drinking out of a pineapple...😁

We were a group of 6 and all agreed that it was by far one of the best experiences on Crete. They not only shared many details about the process of pressing the olives to make the olive oil we had the opportunity to participate in the whole process. We included the cheese making tour after and milked our own goat to make the cheese right there! Excellent experience!!

Great place, the outdoor museum has 10 stations and an audio guide where the traditional cretan products are explained. The place is well maintained, clean and beautifully decorated. Besides various olive oils, cheese, flavoured olives, dried tomatoes and ceramics are being sold. Most of it is handmade. Entrance fee is 5€, 0,5 of olive oil starting from 7€.

A very informative place. You can taste different types of olive. Not only that they have a variety of products made from olive and honey. The product prices are reasonable. Friendly staff and on-site car parking available too.

If u're interested in Cretan products and other local stuff this place is a must. It's a really lovely and beautiful farm. The e-guided tour is made very well and informative. The staff there was really kind and we got a short and very interesting speech about getting the oil in former times - we did'nt expect that before, really great! The offered products are very good and the choice of pruducts is very big. Absolutely a place u have to visit- we will come again.

I really enjoyed the Panorama Tour experience! This farm may be small but the staff were all extremely friendly, and they were very mindful of coming up with things for people to do. We got the chance to have a cooking lesson. We milked the goats and heard about the oil and cheese history of Crete. This is also very family friendly as there were kids on this tour and they seem to have a lot of fun too.

Completed the fish menu cooking class with my boyfriend and really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting! The local chef was friendly, funny, and very easy to follow. The food was amazing and you’ll definitely leave with more knowledge on Cretan food.

My husband and I did the Panorma tour - what a FANTASTIC experience. The learning, the eating, the cooking was ALL amazing. This was an absolute highlight in Crete! Completely worth the 2hr drive each way!!! Thank you so much to everyone involved!!!

A lovely little olive oil farm to visit. You get an ipad with tour information, which was very informative and meant we could take things at our pace. They also make a range of products. In the shop there are some delicious produce to taste and buy. The staff were very welcoming, we particularly were impressed with the gentleman helping people in/out of the car park. I think all ages would enjoy a visit here.

Awesome place to learn about the traditional way things like oil, honey and cheese were produced in Crete. They offer workshops and guided visits but you are also free to explore the farm on your own with the assistance of a tablet which provides you with the stories and details. There is also a shop which offers all the traditional products, most of them you can even try for free. The owners are very kind and provide you with a lot of information. Definitely worth a visit!

Amazing place to visit, definitely recommend it if you're in the area. The owners are super friendly and the produce is of great quality. We did the tablet tour which only costs €5 a person and has some very interesting facts and information about the history and health benefits of cretan food/produce. You don't need a reservation and can just walk in when you would like. There's also a shop with a lot of handmade products for fair prices.

Very kind owner and staff. The panorama tour is absolutely worth its price, you can milk goats, taste freshly made cheese and will have a cooking lesson with a very sympathetic chef. We had an overall amazing time here!

Visiting this farm was a great way to spend 2h and we get to know better process of producing olive oil, wine etc. After a tour is possible to taste and buy in good prices olive oils, honey, olive pastes etc.

When in Heraklion it is worth visit the olive family farm. A large dose of knowledge and possibly to taste the local products. As a part of the tour you get a tablet with language you prefer.

the place is nice, just near the Windham hotel. you can see all the presentations of the objectives on the tablet and for one of them the guide will come to present and will answer your questions. The place could be maintained better in the sense that the crops inside could be better cultivated. They do offer cooking lessons there for the ones that want to participate. There is a shop inside where you can taste some olives, olive oils and honey.

Great experience here doing the olive oil tour. We stumbled in around 10:20am without tickets ahead of time and were able to join a tour starting in 10 mins which was perfect, 50 euro / person. Overall very cool experience. Def recommend Great shop there as well we got a lot to bring back as gifts

For the cost of 5 eur you are getting a very interesting tour with audio/video guide and testing of local products including olive oil, olives, honey, tsicoudia and carob fruits. The place is organized by absolutely amazing people! I very much recommend spending an hour or two in this wonderful place!

Very friendly and chatty staff with a lot of interesting information. Loved the old mechanic olive presses and the tasting of oil, tapenade, raki and honey in the shop. Prices are fair and products of good quality. Do recommend. :)

Please visit this. You will not be disappointed! It was so interesting and you can go round at your own pace and even taste everything the farm produces which is some 10+ olive oils, 10+ types of olives, honey’s, spreads and more!

Can’t say it isn’t interesting, but 3€ for a ticket to enter a small church? You need approximately 5 minutes to see all the frescoes, don’t wanna be disrespectful, but I feel the entrance should be free.

The church of Panagia Kera is located southeast of the small town of Kritsa, scenes of the Last Supper and Feast of Herod are interesting with its own unique profile which played an important role. It dates from the Byzantine period, and grew considerably during the period of Venetian rule (1211-1647). One testimony to the vibrancy of Kritsa is the large number of frescoed churches in the area. By virtue of its size and rich fresco decoration, Panagia Kera is the most important of all these churches. The church’s interior was decorated with Byzantine frescoes from an early renaissance in the 14th and 15th Century.

Cool stop…and also be sure to visit the families a few steps away selling real Cretan handiworks! The church is small but the medieval paintings inside still impress. A few euros each gets you entry and brochure explaining the history. It was featured in the first episode of the BBC show The Lotus Eaters. Plenty of free parking right on the street, then you walk up a very short way to the church.

Excellent experience; surely it is a small church and the visit takes only 10-15 minutes….but the colours and the images are amazing (location is very close from Aghios Nikolaos with an easy road)

A hidden gem. This small, modest looking church hold a surprise when you enter through the low door. The entire inside is covered in colorful, well preserved 13th century frescoes, from floor to ceiling. Each fresco illustrates a different Bible story. We'll worth the two euros entry fee!

Lovely sandy beach with a smooth declining coastline. There are more than enough beds available for reasonable cost. In the far end there's a little stream flowing in the sea.

Nice beach, sandy just till water, when in water is many stones, and that's was really hurtful for feet. Umbrella and two sunbeds 8 euros.

The beach is nice and sandy, but there are a lot of stones in the water, water shoes are mandatory. The water is also very cold for swimming in July

A nice enough beach, though packed to the gunnels with sun loungers. At the entrance it proclaims it's a Municipal beach. But when we erected our own parasol in a quiet corner, we were quickly informed it was a 'private' beach with no unofficial parasols allowed. Strange.

Really nice beach especially for families with children as the water doesn’t get deep until you are far out. We paid 10€ for 2 sunbeds with an umbrella which included 2 bottles of water. Water is really clear and beach has a great and well priced beach bar!

The cold (almost icy sweet water) stream that runs into the sea is so clean and refreshing. Kids may jump from a small bridge (very safe) and swim along to wash into shallow sea waters. Otherwise the beach is sandy, not so crowded ...overall a very nice experience. You can spend a couple of hours.

The most beautiful beach with a fresh water river flowing into the sea. The water in the river is freezing but fun to swim in. The beach itself is very sandy a pleasure to sit on and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

A very nice and calm beach. Water shoes are not needed, there are no rocks in the water. This is not a beach for snorkeling, nothing to see underwater, only sand, but you can go by foot to Beti beach for snorkeling. There is a 10°C river that flows into the sea. We paid 15EUR for two sunbeds with one umbrella.

So there's that little bay north of the beach, which is just perfect for a little swim. The main beach is a nice sandy beach. A cold river flows into the ocean and it makes for an interesting swimming experience.

We had a recommendation from other holiday makers to try this restaurant ( & were warned beforehand that portions were huge). Shared scampi with tartare sauce to start and then made the mistake of two mains - Spaghetti Bolognese with tagliatelle and shrimp curry with tagliatelle. Both were huge but very good. We also had a complimentary aubergine dip and olive and dessert, also a drink of beer & wine. Sadly we could not finish it all. Will definitely return. Sorry I've missed a photo of curried shrimps 🤦

Nice pizza right by the harbour with outdoor seating. Ingredients are fresh and tasty. The crust has a nice texture but could have more flavor. Oven is gas fired, not wood.

My wife and I ate here many years ago during our first trip to Greece. It's always stuck in our minds because of the quality of the food, the amazing prices, and the VERY friendly service. It was a pleasure to escape the resort and come here to experience the village and its friendly people. It's no lie that this restaurant is likely responsible for us returning to Greece many more times.

We visited in April, slightly ahead of the season opening, it had a great atmosphere, really friendly staff, good selection of food for the whole family and child friendly! Would definitely recommend. We even got pleasant little truffles as a thank you for eating there!

If you are looking for homemade pizza and pasta, eat here! They roll the pizza dough out in front of you and have a great menu selection. My husband and I are visiting from NYC and LOVE pizza. We shared the caprese salad and the pizza basil pesto. It had some of the freshest tomatoes we have ever had. For dessert, we ordered the banana and chocolate calzone, which was amazing. The bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. We can't wait to return to try the homemade pasta next!

We are visiting Crete for 2 weeks, we have been to this restaurant every day for the last 6 days! The people who run it are absolutely lovely. They knew us as we walked past each day. They greeted us with such warmth every time they seen us. They were so humbled to have you back in their restaurant! The food! The food is absolutely stunning, truly truly a must have. Myself and my husband are here on our honeymoon and are trying our hardest to try as much as we can on this menu, the food is so fresh and well presented. You will not be disappointed when you come here. All smiles and they will do anything you want. Truly a wonderful place! Thank you!

Came here for pizza, was not disappointed as it was extremely high quality and only for a small price. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Food in Porto Rico was delicious I had the village pizza and chose to get the medium size (8 slices) and it was quite filling the view from the restaurant is great and the atmosphere inside is also good staff are very friendly if you are in Elounda I recommend you check Porto Rico out

Only a 10 minute drive from where we were staying. Lovely small site with remains of Minoan town. Cobbled streets and the palace court yard still evident on top of the hill. We didn't go to any other sites so cannot compare. Wouldn't necessarily say travel a long way to see this but if you are passing ( it is visible from the road but more impressive to walk around) definitely worth 30 mins of your time. 3 Euros entry.

Quite interesting in the layout of the remaining ruins. Don’t forget it’s Minoan and very old so you won’t see much but what is there is impressive.

This small but well preserved Minoan city is a beautiful walk of around half an hour with great views over the sea. It is one of the most interesting excavations in Crete, as most of the other sites on the island focus on the palaces. You can let yourself get lost in its narrow streets and walk inside some remarkable remnants of a winemaking room, a basement and a few more rare spaces. They are Tuesdays closed. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Very interesting archaeological site that helps to imagine how people in the area lived during Minoan times.

Best preserved Minoan town in Crete. The lower parts of the walls of the houses are still standing and this clearly shows the layout of the village. It is easy to get a feel of how busy it must have been in all these little streets between these small houses.

Nice ruins of big ancient settlement of Gournia, as many historical sites in Crete there aren't many informations (few panels) but with some preparation you can easily enjoy the beauty of this place anyway. The place close at 15.30, 3 € entry, bring water and hat with you since it s all under the Cretan sun.

A must-see for anyone who loves history, wants to learn about the Cretan past, or just likes an interesting day out! Really recommend

Beautiful. Just there isn't enough information that explain how the site might have been in the past. However intriguing visit and beautiful view. Easy to access and park your car.

Impressive remains dating from circa 3500 BC. Just lower levels still visible now but you can clamber all over them. Only €3. Toilet available onsite.

Definitely worth visiting if you come by car. There isn't that much information, which is a pity but the place will leave you speechless.

Wow! Fantastic archaeological site. Truly it has to be Crete’s Pompeii. Walk along the ancient Minoan streets and explore the many buildings. I could have spent hours here. Also amazed at low entrance fee of €3!

It's a place of interest. But don't expect anything miraculous. It's ruins. But its historical and interesting Small car park outside is free. 6€for 2 people to visit the settlement. Spectacular views from the settlement out to sea. There's toilets to use. Overall ok.

Gournia is definitely worth a visit as it’s another fascinating Minoan site on eastern Crete. The site is extensive and what was found here is beautifully displayed at the Archeological Museum in Heraklion. The layout as you walk around gives you a much clearer view of what the place might have looked like in its prime. But the views are outstanding as well, and you can visit Agia Nikolaus close by for lunch or a pick me up.

Well worth spending an hour or two walking round these Minoan ruins. The site is in a beautiful location with views across the sea to Agios Nikolaos. Although there are no full buildings left standing, you can walk through what were clearly streets lined with houses and the remains of a palace dating back thousands of years. It's only 3 euros entrance and there were only 5 or 6 other visitors when we went.

Nice beach, great coastal line. Pebble beach, but that can actually be a nice thing. You get less sand in everything. Nice cafés nearby, sunbeds are 4 euro, umbrella 2. And the view is great. Crystal clear water. Highly recommended.

Water is really clean and there aren’t many waves. However it isn’t the best place for kids to play, as the beach doesn’t have natural sand. There aren’t many mini markers around.

Α small beach across town which is always full. Well organised with chairs and tents run by Sven who does his utmost to have each customer satisfied and happy. Great beach in the center of the city. The water is nice and clean. They charge 10€ for the set of one umbrella and two sunbeds, which is fair enough. There is not so much space for the people with their own umbrellas so in my opinion it is better to rent. The sun is merciless.

Very clean and calm beach. The water is transparent at any depth, with pebbles in tbe front and sand in the deep. For the first time on Crete we had a day of proper swimming, because all the turqouise beaches around Crete are shallow and windy as a rule. This place is totally overseen, as the beach is always almost empty. The water goes deep very fast, the pebbles are not as comfy as sand, which may explain why we didn't see crows with children here.

Another amazing statue by the sea, depicting a modernised mythical item. This is the horn of Amaltheia. When Zeus was born and had to be hidden from his father, Kronos, in the cave of Diktaion Adron (also located in Crete), Amaltheia was the goat that fed him with honey and her milk. Strong as he was, baby Zeus accidentally broke off her horn while playing and, since then, that horn provided an endless supply of food, just like Amaltheia provided for the young god. Since then, the horn of Amaltheia (also known as Cornucopia) is a symbol of wealth, abundance and nourishment.

Interesting structure with some decent views of the sea and the city (depending on where you choose to stand). Nothing spectacular, but it seems to look nicer at dusk/night with the lights turned on. It seems the structure has gotten a bit worn from the sun / sea water, so it would be nice if the city could restore it to make it look a bit nicer compared to its current state.

Nice sculpture with a beauty blu light at evening. It symbolizes the greek story/mythology of Amaltheia. The most frequently mentioned foster-mother of Zeus. It's nice for kids to explain the story in combination with that sculpture.

Such an amazing spot to see at night!

My eight year old daughter and I visited this newly renovated museum today and we were pleasantly surprised! First of all it was free for us to enter so to be honest we were not expecting too much. The amount of artifacts they have in display is very impressive and the layout was excellent. We were informed that the displays were not totally completed yet and in some places we noticed this eg. The descriptions are written on paper. However they were still very informative. I would recommend for anyone visiting the area to pop in to see what amazing items have been found in Crete. We spent a good hour there and my daughter did not get bored! I would have given 5 stars but I will change this once the display is fully completed in October.

Absolutely fascinating historical collection of Minoan artifacts with some of the best and most informative descriptions posted (in Greek and English as well). Beautiful presentation of the objects. I think there may be another section not yet open but would return to see more when it does. A shame poor attendance on day we visited - it is really world class. Was free admission. Open weekends only at present but may change so check website. An unexpected gem!!!

Nice local exhibition, but very limited. Am given to understand it's very impressive, but currently the vast majority is closed for renovation. The help desk said that it should fully open in summer 2020.

Incredible museum with a lot to offer. If you like archeological and historical finds, don’t hesitate!

I had a great time. Went midday on a Sunday and entry to my surprise was free. It took me almost 2 hours to in great detail go through the museum which was in a great time period layout with videos showing how things were found or understood by archaeologists. I would recommend to anyone who likes history or archaeology as it is a very detailed exhibition on ancient Crete and Greece

The museum is renovation, there are no exhibitions open to the visitors. The parking near the museum cost 3€. A wait of money and time.

The museum is still closed due to reconstruction works, according to the staff for the next 3 years.

If you like clay pots it’s great! This museum has been recently renovated to a nice standard, however the selection of exhibits is limited. The attendants stood in each room made you feel babysat and weren’t particularly friendly - they gave the place a rather cold atmosphere (which is fine if you’re looking for a break from the sun). The English write ups about each exhibit were long and not very interesting - no doubt the whole experience could be improved with better text that gives you some context to what you’re looking at. Some of the information was actually inaccurate - though that could be down to translation. The museum map showed a shop which we didn’t buy anything in because it wasn’t open. Though to top it all - admission is no longer free! 6 euros each now a just started this season apparently. 🙄

One of the very best small museums I have ever visited. Located near the centre of Agios Nikolaoas, this astonishing collection has been rehoused in a splendid new building, still not fully open (this is planned for October 2023). Great free museum, alot example of ancient Greek. There were some bits from Olous which were of particular interest to me and the reason I went. Lots of treasure type gold and silver items. Only open limted hours at the moment ( be aware is not a lot to read for each item just what it is when it's from and pertinent facts.)

Spent a lovely morning visiting Agios Nikolaos Crete! Wandered along the Seafront and saw The Abduction of Europa Statue, had a good Coffee in the Harbour and a trip to the market! What lovely fresh produce on sale. Just a lettuce was absolutely enormous. I do recommend a visit , there are Tour companies going to The Island of Spinalonga well worth a visit and so many fine Shops and Restaurants We travelled by Bus which was comfortable, inexpensive and easy to use!

Agios Nicolaios in particular nice town,many places to look aroun.Found the Europa sculpture to make children happy that wecare all europeans,childrens of godess Europe.

Its just a statue by a parking lot. Its a nice statue, but its not by anything like a park, just kinda out here by some parking and a navy dock.

Incredible drive up to a superb little monastery. Warm welcome from the monks and a wonderful church built into the hillside. Worth the trip.

Lovely little church. Monk was very friendly and explained everything. It is a really quite place. Please show respect with headphones/ hats and clothing. And also if you are in to cats - you will love it:)

One of the nice beaches in Agios Nikolaos! Its well organized pebbled beach with a big parking lot. Even though beach is pebbled, inside the sea is sandy. The pebbles might have the best shapes to collect.

Nice little sandy-rocky beach close to Agios Nikolaos. More beautiful than the beach in the town. Dogs are allowed. Sunbeds (10€/set) and service available. Also a shower, changing room and decent toilets are there to use.

After reading the reviews we traveled 1 hour by car to visit this beach for the day and were very disappointed. Now I am not sure if it was because we arrived in the first week of the season but the beach that had been described as sandy was full stone, the Tavern was closed and the toilets had no water supply but had been used numerous times and that is an image I will never be able to get out of my head :(

Lovely little beach with some good snorkeling close to the shore. Great for young children. Not too deep but quite rocky at the shore so make sure you have some water shoes to help with that. It gets sandy at about 1.5m deep and there are some nice big rocks with lots of little fish that make for some good snorkeling about 2m depth but not far from shore. Beautiful views. The cafe is nice and clean, staff were nice but we waited quite a while for our food after ordering. Was made fresh though so that was good. The usual foods, chips, nuggets and hot dogs as well as other stuff. We really enjoyed spending a few hours here. €10 for two sunbeds and an umbrella.
