This is a fantastic place to bring children! Interactive experiment areas are set up in a fun and engaging manner to ensure that the experience caters for each individual mind. The museum has multiple stories each with a different experience. From the top floor an amazing view of the bridge and Spike Island can be seen. Outside of the center is a nice play area and zip line for the children to enjoy. Duck and swan food can be purchased from inside at the desk to feed them in the water outside on the water. This is an interactive experience I would definitely recommend.

Thought we would give it a go and glad we did. The kids loved the different exhibits and it's not a huge place but they seemed entertained for a couple of hours. Lunch in the cafe was nice and quick. The service from the staff was really good both the cafe and front desk. I would give it 5* but there was a couple of exhibits that didn't seem to be working. The kids didn't mind they just moved to the next ones. Also the age appropriate workshop was already fully booked Buying a ticket seems to give you an annual pass so will probably be back again after a while

Very interactive science museum. Great use of space and variety of science activities to keep children and adults engaged. Lovely space outside for picnics and there's a good playground as well as walks nearby. Impressive and recommend you take your family there.

We visited during lottery open week so received free adult entry. We had a brilliant afternoon. Kids ages 3 and 7 both enjoyed all the hands on activities. We particularly liked the stop motion video creator stations. Wasn't particularly busy when we visited on a Sunday. Kids didn't have to wait to do anything. Deducted one star as a few niggles like only one ball for 3 magnetic walls, no paper at drawing station or at air blower experiment, broken parts/handle on circuit boards. Would still recommend. We also enjoyed a walk by the water, the small play area outside and seeing the swans and geese. Spent about 3 hours there in total.

Great fun for the kids, informative talks and the cafe is pretty good too! There's also a playground right outside so if you have time there's some outdoor fun too

What a brilliant interactive museum for children and adults of all ages. Great information about science, and ways to put into practice, microscopes to look up close at the smaller details (money, flies, material for some examples), stop motion learning and flying scarfs and paper cups. We were lucky to go up to the observation top for - what views, even on a rainy day we could see the roof tops further a field. Live shows and demonstrations by Rob - so engaging and enthusiastic, really got the kids thinking and shouting out. So many questions asked by all. Given web searches to answer further questions when we ran out of time. Do recommend going if you want a day out. Make it a full day for walk round Spike island and watch out for the wild life on the Mersey and Sankey canal

I came here as part of Girl guiding brownies sleepover event where we slept in the observatory, this is a very hands on child friendly museum! The staff are lovely and friendly! We took part in keyring making and science space shows, fantastic experience!

If you're in the Chester, Liverpool, or surrounding areas and looking for a simple, fun activity for the kids, Catalyst Children's Science Museum is worth adding to your itinerary. While it may not be worth travelling out of town for, it offers a time-consuming, enjoyable experience for the whole family. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of simple science activities available for kids to explore. Before we knew it, we had spent over two and a half hours immersed in the exhibits. However, it's worth noting that tickets could be more affordable, and while the toilets were clean, they did appear a bit dated. Overall, Catalyst Children's Science Museum provides a fun-filled day out with the kids, perfect for those looking for a low-key educational experience.

Great place for the children 4 floors of interactive experiments, spent nearly an hour on the 1st floor alone. Going all the way to the top of the building you are able to look out and see for miles over the river mersey, runcorn bridge ect. Has a park right out side for children to play on aswell.

We had a great visit here with the kids in the summer holidays. It's a fun, very interactive museum with loads of fun things to try. They particularly enjoyed presenting the weather forecast in front of a real TV camera, and making their own animations with various props. We paid to see the 'light show', which was actually a short presentation of interesting facts about light and some demonstrations of things like an infrared camera. The viewing observatory on the top floor has great views of the new bridge over the Mersey and had an interesting glass elevator to get up. There is a cafe which also sells ice cream. You can't take your own picnic food in the cafe but there's a big separate lunch room upstairs with plenty of space to picnic (also lots of space outside on a nice day). The playground was a hit with the kids despite the rain when we visited. The parking is free and there are disabled spots available. Finally, remember that when you pay full price you get free visits for a whole year- we'll definitely be back!

Great place for all ages. Interactive activities for everyone. I've had more fun than kids. Additional workshops are amazing, too. Please remember to book a space for child and adult, as the kids have to be supervised at all times. Entry fee = annual pass.

It great way of gaining knowledge of science specifically for kids. Adults enjoys it too. We had fun. There is free parking. You can have food and drinks at cafe. Toilets are neat and clean. Beautiful view from glass lift. You can convert you day ticket to annual pass.

Not a bad local attraction , highlight heing the glass elevator . Some of the areas things not working . Will try the laboratory session next time and book as this looked really good.

Been here many times and it's always such a lovely place to visit. Big play area for the kids, the bonus of Espositos cafe and ice cream shop too. Great food and the ice cream is gorgeous, lots of flavours to choose from. Lovely little nature trail to walk through and spot the fairy doors on the trees. My grandaughter loves it there.

Brilliant park with great facilities. Includes splash pad, water fountain, gardens, skate park, tennis court, rock climbing, gym equipment,play park and cafe. Only down downfall is lack of parking it can be very hard to find a space on a dry day. Early Saturday morning is a park run, it can be hard to access the cafe and navigate around the park.

I took a stroll with my family in the afternoon. The laughters of the children mixed with the birds' songs. The swans swam leisurely...

Nice big park, very well kept no real litter. Big play areas for kids and a big duck pond with a fountain that pretty Huge skate park with vert ramps, half pipes Also 2 coffee shops, 1 you can sit in and a take-out at the opposite side of the park. Dogs are on lead but there is an off-lead fenced-in area for dogs to play. Great park, highly recommend

Great Park and every Wednesday 12pm until 3pm there is a Wheels for All inclusive cycling in the park near to Esposito's and the band stand.

Butterfly House, cafe and ice cream self service shop, free to enter and free activities....also excepts card payments at the cafe and the ice cream shop... Granddaughters loved it and they are both under the age of 3yrs.. Going again in the future.

Fabulous huge park brilliant for kids 4 different areas in the play park. A water and sprinkling area for the extra hot days so the kids have fun running through the water. Huge field often used for festivals shows and fairs. We stopped and had ice cream from the small parlor, and it was lovely. Walking around the lake was beautiful until we went to the far side of the lake it was filled with bird poo. All over the paths field side of the water, Benches. Was a build up which would suggest its not cleaned regularly. Other than this the park is beautiful. And the enclosed area for the dogs is fantastic.

It's a nice, medium-sized park with a generous kids play area, a pond with lots of ducks, geese, swans and other birds. There's one or two dog areas as well along with two cafes, a tennis court, Basketball area and so on. Overall I'd say it's a great place located close to the town centre however my only issue is the fact that the park is always windy, way too windy for my liking however, should you be lucky enough to visit it during a sunny day you will be enjoying it to the fullest.

Best Park I have ever been, always clean and tidy. Love the little lake with the swans(the male Swan is dangerous tho 😄😄😄). Great place to get out with kids too, there is a big playing area.

Park that has everything. Great water play area for kids, superb cafe near the band stand and an ice-cream and coffee shop at the top end of the park. Skate park with decent ramps for the kids, boulders for climbing, tennis courts, fenced 5 a side pitch, bowling greens, loads of green space, nature trail for walking, big lake with swans and other wildlife, butterfly house and public toilets. Always well maintained and clean. Well worth a visit.

I have been coming to spike island since I was very young and have recently started using here for running. I always love coming and being in the large open space, the views of the mersey gateway bridge and the jubilee bridge are great and i think the cafe has been a great addition in recent years. There are always lots of dog walkers and people exploring with their children and using the park area. It is somewhere i/we will visit again and again.

Saw those posts in a cafe shop. Had a nice walk along the water and saw a few big fish swimming there. Nice place for cycling as well. Love the view of River Mersey.

I live not far from Spike Island, so it's part of my home. It depresses me to see that there's no water in our canal anymore and that the council almost seems to be willingly incompetent in trying to restore it. Shame on Halton Council for neglecting such a beautiful area. The fix is as simple as turning a water pump back on and doing some landscaping to bring the canal back to its beautiful self, but Halton council are too greedy to be considerate about conservation.

Spike Island a great place for a walk and lots of wildlife too. Cafe food is really good and cheap! Don't know how they do it for those prices. Well with a visit.

Lovely place to visit, for walkers, families, dog walkers, and anyone who likes wildlife or a good view. There is a small café on site at the boat house. Nearby is The Catalyst Museum, with another café and a play area outside, which is popular with families. After the closure of Fiddlers Ferry Power Station, the canal is currently being kept full of water by a team of volunteers, the boat owners, who are doing a fantastic job. If you visit, don't forget to make a voluntary donation in the bucket at the boat house café to help with the upkeep of the water pump run by the boat team.

A great gem of Widnes! Loads of wildlife due to the canal, river mersey and woodlands. Right next to the Catalyst museum, with free parking! Cafe nearby next to the canal. Lots of water fowl present in the canal and are quite tame. If you are in the right place at the right time, you may meet Hermon the Heron!

Peaceful place to walk and right on the edge of the water with a shop to get a coffee during the day and they've even got the water back in the canal!

Lovely area for a revitalising walk. There are many ducks and swans in the water which are quite friendly and can be fed by purchasing some food from the Catalyst shop. There is a play park for children to enjoy and a little zip line. This is also a great area to walk the dogs while enjoying the scenery. I would recommend going for a nice relaxing walk here.

A beautiful area right on the banks of the Mersey. The remains of its industrial heritage are still there including the wrecks of some "flats" (flat bottomed boats designed to carry cargo on the shallow river). Kids love the open space and the large number of extremely friendly swans and geese. There is also a well maintained play area.

What St Helens market should be. It's a shadow of the market in the 70s, but still worth a visit, with lively well presented stalls. Still has fresh fruit and veg, meat and fish.

Excellent selection of stalls under one roof. My visit was to purchase an item from the excellent Widnes Vikings Club Shop on a non-matchday though google maps currently shows the location for this shop as Tesco's Extra,i can confirm it's position (as of May 2024) is in the Market. The stalls are very diverse, the market is always clean and the stallholders; (some of whom have been operating since the new market opened and were at the old market) are extremely helpful. Even when it comes to advising on other stalls availability of goods! There's food, sweets, clothing, bags & shoes and, a fantastic Optician in iCare Opticians. Helen is very helpful when it comes to choosing new frames as is Mr Ali himself when examining your eyes. All the Stallholders very professional and friendly at Widnes market and it's still an old fashioned market atmosphere. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Widnes market is a great place to shop and retains a lot of the character of the old market but is central to the town's main hub. Parking charges have been introduced but at only £1 for full day this is not expensive.

Love this market as it it a proper market. D and S Fisheries have the best fish and prawns in the North West. I won't buy my prawns from anywhere else.

I always love my days out at Widnes Market. It's a proper Market feel. Easy and cheap to park. Plenty of shops to look round as well Plenty of places to grab a drink or a spot of lunch. Really look forward to my days out there. Can highly recommend it there is a bus that stops as near to Market as possible for those that don't drive

Said it was open online, but all shut when we got there. The shutters were all down apart from 1, looked In 1 person sitting by the door at the side. Shutters down by the toilets, by the butchers.

Go to flea market most Wednesdays. Had some smashing bargains. You need to mooch regularly. Not as many stalls in cold January but still enough for us. Also plenty of Charity shops in town centre. Nice morning out

Nice market. Plenty of stalls offering varied items. Health shop is very good staff friendly and informative.

Well maintained Widnes Market starts becoming my favourite spot in Town. Great management as well. Very clean public toilets as well.

A nice place to go for a walk by the banks of the River Mersey. Used by many dog walkers, not all of whom are great at clearing up after their dogs. Also, some woodland to explore. Excellent spot to see a large variety of wading birds feeding at low tide. River is fast and deep here, with steep banks, so stick to the riverside path. There are quite a few picnic tables which are nicely situated, and some seats dotted about.

Lots of wild life to be seen across the Mersey estuary and a brisk scenic walk through meadow paths a must. Industrial views and the iconic jubilee bridge and railway bridge can also be seen...rangers hut viewing hide free parking and dog walking . plenty of wildfowl and fresh air to enjoy.

Pickering pastures is a beautiful nature reserve. With multiple paths and routes around the area, you can be sure of a pleasant walk along the river Mersey, through wooded areas or open fields. Many people use this fabulous location to walk their four-legged friends. With bins situated along several of the routes, there is really no reason not to tidy up after yourselves either. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen. If you're of the bird watching persuasion, there are many birds to be seen on the river or in the reserve. There is also a bird watching spot at the western most point. On the main car park and along the main path, there are several picnic areas that look out over the water. Also, on the car park is a visitors centre, unfortunately this is seldom open. Down sides to this area are that the bins are regularly overflowing as the council tends not to bother with the ones away from the car park. Dog mess on the paths away from the tarmaced areas. And finally, depending on what time it is or what the weather is like, it can be very busy. These are all personal points of view, of course. As part of the trans Pennine trail, going from Southport to Hornsea, it is a beautiful spot along it. The trail will take you to some local areas such as Spike Island and Fiddlers Ferry.

Pickering Pastures is one of my favourite places to visit with views of the Jubilee bridge and the Mersey gateway. The path is tarmac and small gravel if you cycle it's fine. There are about 6 flights of stairs and a bridge over Ditton Brook you will need to carry your this up and down and it's not wheelchair accessible. You get wonderful views of Runcorn over the Mersey River and on a sunny day its perfect. If you've never been its a must there is a car park and many dog walking routes.

A local beauty spot fantastic for bird watching and dog walking or just taking in some air. It is wheelchair accessible it is well paved although there are a couple of steep slopes. Run entirely by volunteers. Picnic area with tables.

Kids loved the arcade. Staff were terribly slow, at one pont there was 4 people discussing how to process a refund with a queue of customers waiting the be served. Sold out of some menu options but still allowed us to order. Replacement food then came out 10 minutes after the rest.

Play area is excellent. Everything else about this place is shockingly poor. Food is awful, and is not what the menu promises. You're lucky if they actually remember to bring out your order. Just had my sons 4th birthday party there. Arrived to be told they had no parties on the calender. Had to show the manager the confirmation email. Then they half arsed it. We basically ran the party ourselves. Don't get a beer from the bar, smells funny, and tastes bad.

Visited here recently for thw first time since it had a refurb for a game of bowling with the Mrs and kids. It's great to kill a bit of time, they have bowling, a kids soft play, arcades as well as a bar and restraunt where you can either sit to eat or order food and drink to your lane if you're bowling. Food isn't brilliant but ive had much worse. Although they did take a considerable time to cook it for what it was . Bowling can be expensive but they have some great deals on if you at certain days and times the kids soft play is very reasonably priced.

Staff are miserable, no hot drinks and the toilets were disgusting. £7 for one child also is a bit expensive. Won't be returning.

I booked advance ticket as their website required for their 1£ offer. When I arrived they asked me to pay for my child as their website is not updated properly, bringing us in a very uncomfortable situation. But of course as a parent I will not dissapoint my child once we arrived. I complaint and as a costumer the fair step would have been to not let me pay but inform me that next time they charge the full amount so not to follow their website as proving my booking this would be the right step. It happened me twice already. At the first instance they had their advertised offer so we went and when we arrived a paper were sticked under the till saying because its half term they charge the full amount. Really bad management!!! Costumer service 0 Cleanliness 0 I also consumed in their bar in the previous night and asked for a napkin. The lady gave me blue cleaning roll... What a bad service is this!

Just been to the Halloween party, and was served kids meals like this. Went to the counter to ask can we change it? Was told no! I was spoken up quite condescending. The Halloween party has a lot to answer for also! Absolutely awful! Staff was buying bouncy balls out of their own vending machines after i had asked where is the party games like the st Helen’s branch? As We usually go there, and it’s ace all songs and pass the parcel ect! This was such a disappointment! The effort we had gone to with the kids outfits and cost! And the place absolutely stank of drains! Manager so was so rude! I honestly wouldn’t go back and I live in Widnes! Been going for years I don’t know what’s happened to the place! Please see the party games that was pieced together after we asked at 6:15 where the games was like st Helen’s do? 3 disappointed kids! The staff just didn’t have clue how to interact with kids! Just couldn’t be bothered with them! So sad! I checked with the st Helen’s branch and they had their usual disco and pass the parcel/ entertainment person! Why do they not all follow the same criteria?

Great place for the kids to play freely and safely. My 3 year old loves it here and she loves the food too. Costa instant is also available, cold drinks, snacks and slushies. Staff can sometimes not notice you are there when they chat among themselves and can be quite ignorant when serving (I.e. Still chatting to their collegue) but some are really lovely.

I am given 1 star because, I can’t give less. We went there twice and not allowed to get in. The first time was about 5:00 and the lady did not allow us to come in, because we havent booked. The next day, I called them around 1pm to book space for 5pm. The guys who I spoke with said to me, I do not need book space for 5pm because it is not a busy time. I explained to him what happened the day before. And he said again, you can come with out booking at 5pm. Guess what? When we come, once again we are not allowed to come because it is a private party. Staffs aren’t trained properly and I think they don’t have a good communication between them. Very very disappointed.

Really poor service Ordered a child's bacon and cheese burger at the till. Burger come out with no bacon. They wanted to charge me an extra £1.6 per rashon after the food had already come out. The food here is expensive and the service is poor.

All quite sad. So many places have closed down. Such a shame. Got diabetic socks in Schush 3 pairs for £2. What a bargain. They're not the heaviest weight but if you like a finer sock they're perfect. In fact the charity shop had some new ones dearer than that!

It used to be a great area to shop and stop for a coffee. Some great shops but the local council put the rates and rents up that much its now almost all empty shops to be turned into housing. It's disgusting

Very sad place. Many of the shops now closed and empty. WH Smith store now closing down. Grim. Even grimmer in 2022. 2023 update - The place needs rejuvenation and fast.

It was like a ghost town most shops had shutters down. So sad to see. When the pay for parking come into effect it will have a killer effect on people visiting Widnes.

Slowly dying as a shopping area. One side is full of empty units save for Lloyds and the Viking Café. Needs complete overhaul.

Local shopping square not much there but was is there is worth a look

First you need to change the photo of Albert square, WH smith no longer trades there. It used to be busy in this part of Widnes but there has been so many shop closures in the past few years. I can't see it staying open for much longer. There are 3 pound thype shops in this location, and with the current cost of living crisis I can understand that they would profit ffom this. It's very sad to see this happen to the town, more and more businesses are closing and there are fewer places to shop for variety. I fear that if any of the remaining shops were to close in Albert square it would be the end. Don't let this put you off visiting the town as there is free parking adjacent to Iceland and sports direct, and this is central for the other shops in Widnes road.

A sad remanence of an old town centre. Plenty of nice units, great parking and a good layout but every shop is either empty or filled with charity shop, vape shops or junk shops; a real shame. i'm sure the high business rates and extortionate rent don't help local business owners compete with online only companies.

Empty shop fronts just a few good ones left. Not been here for a while and half fronts are empty. Come back next year probably be none. Except for B Heart Foundation. Still be there after the next ice age

Best Park I have ever been, always clean and tidy. Love the little lake with the swans(the male Swan is dangerous tho 😄😄😄). Great place to get out with kids too, there is a big playing area.

Busy place when the sun is out. Quite a hang out for teenage youths, which is good but overwhelming for younger children. Better than St Helens parks.

Lovely park with a pond, very pretty and relaxing. I've visited a few timed with friends and never been disappointed. Would return

Park that has everything. Great water play area for kids, superb cafe near the band stand and an ice-cream and coffee shop at the top end of the park. Skate park with decent ramps for the kids, boulders for climbing, tennis courts, fenced 5 a side pitch, bowling greens, loads of green space, nature trail for walking, big lake with swans and other wildlife, butterfly house and public toilets. Always well maintained and clean. Well worth a visit.

A decent station allowing for easy access to both Liverpool and Manchester. The trains are fairly frequent and the station feels clean and looked after.

Shoddy station, the bridge is creaky and does not feel safe at all- along with the litter around the station that is sometimes there. Got harassed at the station while waiting for a train back to Liverpool. Not great at all and it is really uncomfortable using the station.

Very handy for Liverpool and Manchester with usually 4-5 trains an hour. Arrive early if you're a commuter and want to park in the car park. Use an old cheap bike if you can - plenty of cycle paths nearby for a lot of commuters. Also, it's a pretty station.

Widnes station building may be lovely, and the little shelter on platform 1 may well be a monument to my daughter's childhood (her words) but it smells of urine. Come on Widnes station, it doesn't take much to clean and refresh a couple of times a day. And no WiFi... Still in the dark ages!

Good enough station with a ticket office and ticket machine easily accessible on the platform. Car park and limited shelter are provided here as well. Trains roughly stop here at least 2 an hour in each direction.

Next town over. You can get trains to LVP or MAN from here... small station, though, with two platforms.

Great to go early shopping at Morrison's this morning. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the cafe. I was shocked to see people walking around vaping inside. Selfish people don't they know no smoking means just that.

Really good shopping centre. Be careful as the public part of the car park is now chargeable. Only £1.00 per day but if you forget to pay it's a fine. Morissons part of the parking area is still free but a bit more crowded.

Decent parking and a good mix of shops, got everything we needed in one place, very convenient.

Some great bargains on the car boots. Every shop you can think of and some homemade pastries and cakes loved it

Always shop here would rather go here than St Helens ( where I live ) great for free parking and plenty of shops and great indoor Market for all your needs.

Only popped in to visit Boots Store. Plenty of parking, easy access to all shops in general area. Large Tesco nearby.

Use the gym here and sometimes shopping, it's good because you can always get a car park space underground and get the lift up to the shops.

I only went into Halfords then poundland ... Salfords prices are an absolutely extortionate whilst people are really struggling financially and its not as good without wilko's there

Not visited Widnes in a while so I was surprised there's a few nice shops worth a visit

The atmosphere has disappeared from the church the new signage outside is very misleading just not give you information of service times they are trying to make it it into to a Pentecostal Church which does not suit that traditional old building
