It's one of the most impressive shrines I've been to. Amazing architecture and detailing. The location is also beautiful and vast, there is plenty to see that's worth visiting for. There are several admission fees for the different temples/shrines, but overall, I think it was worth it.

It has great trails to hike on sunny days. So many stores and restaurants on the way too where you could get refreshments or you may use the washrooms if you needed. Keep in mind as usual, there are no garbage bins in japan so you would have to carry your litter with you until you get to the station or home. I recommend having sunblock with you because it's quite an exposed area and you need that protection.

Went on a weekday just after the rain so no queue. A magnificent temple to worship the most famous army general, Ieyasu Tokogawa. The signs are clear. The site is well-managed and clean. Happy that we got to see this world heritage.

This was just lovely after we passed the historic red bridge and began our exploration with Tosho-gu Shrine. It is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1868. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was built in 1636. I try to imagine who was here a few hundred years ago.

One of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful shrines in Japan, having visited now for the second time. The historical significance of being the final resting place of Tokugawa, the shogun who unified Japan and brought about two hundred years of peace is incredible.

The Toshogu shrine in Nikko is one of these historical landmarks you must see while in Japan. It is one of the most beautiful and revered places in Japan. It is situated in the Nikko natural park and is surrounded by a beautiful nature. Parking is between 600 yens and 1000 yens depending the place. The shrine entrance is about 1300 yens, I don't remember clearly.

Even during bad weather it was a breathtaking sight. It really feels like you’re entering a different world, especially with all the stairs. The price was very reasonable and even without the audio guide there is a lot of information presented in English. You also get to see the „see nothing, hear nothing, say, nothing monkeys“ and other iconic statutes and imagery. Definitely a must-see spot

This is the most famous temple at Nikko and rightly so, for it is a treasure trove of lacquer work, wood carving and traditional architectural styles. There are a great variety of structures at the site, ranging from tombs to stables and ornately decorated gateways. The whole complex is surrounded by majestic cedars, which greatly contributes to the atmosphere. Entrance costs 1300 yen.

I didn’t get to take a picture of the red bridge which I was really looking forward to and one of the reasons why I booked this tour. So I’m pretty bummed. The trip felt was rushed. I still give 4 stars because the shrine was really wonderful. It was so big that takes more than just 1 hour and half. It wa raining that time too so better not come in the summer is was so hot and bipolar rain.

Here is another World Heritage site for its masterpiece's architectural and decorative. Prepare for a long walk and many steps to cover all the shrines and temples around the area. To get to Inner Shrine Pagoda, you have to climb up another 200+ steps. Take your times and Enjoy!

I'm not big on shrines and temples but this was a nice visit. Entering the main shrine was surreal. You have to remove your shoes and keep your phone away. It was quiet even with all the visitors, and just imagining what it was like centuries ago is just a different experience altogether. I went on a Monday afternoon, it wasn't crowded. A lot of locals and just a few chinese and western people. There are audio guides you can rent for 500 yen.

The most beautiful temples I’ve visited in Japan so far. The protection of these buildings is immaculate and they weren’t burnt down in some fire and rebuilt in the 1900’s they are actually four hundred years old and are just taken care of and repainted very well. I could feel the history breathing in and out of this place. Tokugawa’s treasures were well kept and I just can’t describe in clear words how happy that I, a history lover, was to to be able to touch and be so close to something so old and well taken care of for the public. I think Tokugawa would be proud at how many people love and respect his family’s heirlooms and resting places.

Of all the shrines and temples I've visited in Japan, this could be one of the most beautiful I've seen. Set amidst the lush greenery in the mountains of Nikko, the intricate and elaborate construction and design is really awe inspiring. It really helps to put into clarity how much Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu is revered as a deity by the locals.

December 2021 the main gate was still under construction :( sad but this shrine is still worth visiting, amazing sights and colors. Admission is worth it. You can easily spend 2 hours here.

Definitely worth the entry fee and trouble getting here. Highly recommended to visit here if you're staying in Tokyo. This is the best temple you can see from Tokyo without going half way across the country. Origin of the three wise monkeys, has a lovely pagoda. You can pay with an IC card. Very intricate carvings and painting in a fantastic gold and black color scheme. There are details everywhere you look. There is a photoservice that also takes a picture with your phone for free. The inner part can only be entered without shoes and no pictures can be taken inside the building. The steep stone steps to the northern part of the temple become extremely slippery when wet.

You can purchase the entrance ticket on the spot. I would recommend visiting this temple. It covers a wide area and has a lot of architecture to look at. It can be a bit challenging to walk around, especially when the ground is wet, so do be careful. Temple closes on time, so don't be late.

A beautiful shrine with lots to see, definitely worth a visit. Quite a lot of walking with steps so be aware if you have trouble getting around. It was very busy especially with groups of school children so a weekend visit might be quieter. Unfortunately, the day we visited we had torrential rain so not great.

Amazing experience. Take your time and explore Be prepared to walk up steep steps. It’s not easy to get to some of the places. If you have issues with steps, might be better to wait at the bottom.

One of the best. I loved the calm atmosphere, large trees, and minimal tourists. Maybe I was early at 930AM? It was perfect to take my time, take photos, and explore all sites.

The temple complex comprises several temple areas, each of which requires a separate entrance fee. Nikkō Tōshogū is the most popular, the most expensive, and the largest. Tickets must be purchased from a machine, which accepts cash, Suica card, and credit card. All other temple areas have cashiers to handle ticket sales. We spent approximately two hours visiting three paid areas. My favorite was Nikkō Tōshogū, followed by Taiyu-in Temple and Nikko Futarasan jinja Haiden. The ticket to Nikkō Tōshogū included a second ticket for entry to a building. They gather you into a group, as the guides explain the exhibits in Japanese only. At the end, the guide clapping two wooden sticks together to produce a surprisingly loud but crisp echo within the building, something about sending wishes to the dragon in the sky. We had almost forgotten about the second ticket until we heard the pleasant sound and followed it to the building. At the Taiyu-in Temple, visitors can purchase a ticket for admission to the temple only, or a combination ticket that also includes admission to the Nikkozan Rin’nōji Temple, which was not particularly interesting. The Taiyu-in temple was intricate and worth the visit. We drove to the temple and paid 700 yen to park our car in one of the 3-4 parking lots. You can take a bus from town for 300 yen one way per person. The map may give the impression that the temples are a considerable distance apart, but in reality they are quite close. Walking between them did not take a long time, but visiting the interior of each building took up the majority of our time. This is truly a beautiful UNESCO site.

Very beautiful place. There are many marvelous carvings, statues, buildings...etc. It has display boards with English translation giving introduction and special features of these items. Do not rush, take your time to watch.

It's beautiful and interesting at the same time. Very beautifully decorated shrine. We went on a weekend and just before the New year came so it was really crowded. It was quite hike though, it was a long stair. Lol

No wonder this is considered 1 of the most important places in Japan. The artistry and beauty of this shrine is amazing. It is truly a place to visit and admire the craftsmanship of an awesome culture.

It was such a treat to be able to enjoy this wonderful historical site. Many beautiful buildings with gold leaf and carvings and colorful designs with flowers and animals and such. Many stairs to climb with varied heights involved. The shines were impressive going back to the first Shogun in his honor!

Amazing! A few different angles so make sure you find the walkable observation deck from the top, as well as the elevator observation deck. The elevator does not allow dogs. Parking is available but during busy seasons, it’s better to find a spot further from the site. We waited over an hour to turn into the parking lot during the 2022 fall season. There are 2 lots for the falls themselves, but also many others so do a Google map search for them.

One of the best waterfalls in Japan! The view was really amazing I was glad I went. Be sure to take the elevator down to the lower area and check out the gift shop. It can get a little cool there depending on when you visit. Would be a great place to visit in the summer to cool off. Even if you don’t take the elevator down you’ll still have a good experience though.

Beside Kegon waterfall, don't miss the sightseeing boat cruise at Chuzenji Lake too! You will be amazed. It's really worth an hour trip to watch these beautiful red leaves scenery. Visited: Oct 26, 2023.

This place was near our hotel residence. It was cold and rainy when we went there. Hence I rated it a 4 star. We bought a ticket for yen 570 each to take the elevator down to the platform to see the waterfall. There is a shop down at the platform. It was interesting to note that they built the platform in 1930 - boring it through the rocks. The elevator looks very well kept and maintained

A breathtaking spot, I would have stayed there the whole day, even it was foggy and it was difficult to see the full view of the waterfall. You can see a complex of waterfalls and a nice running river in sunny day, also the best time to visit is during autumn, the colour mix of trees and waterfall is unmatched. You can enjoy the water fall for free from view point having 2 floors, or you can enjoy more realistic and more closer look if you go to the lower view point through elevator for about extra 500 yen if I still remember, this is also a great solution if you were unlucky and there was fog, you can check the live screen and go to the bottom view point to have a better view. Anyway, plan your trip well, and make sure that it is sunny at the waterfall area. Access: use bus from Nikko station, there is a good cheap full 2 day bus pass from Nikko station, don't miss it, you may some money.

The waterfall was a sight to behold! Very exciting. The trees near the waterfall basin are also very beautiful. I visited here around 4pm and could not get any pictures of the falls due to backlighting. Morning might be better to get good waterfall pictures at this location.

Beautiful all around, well-deserved spot on 1 of the 3 best waterfalls in Japan! View is breathtaking, sound is powerful and the overall gorge/waterfall/forest combination makes it truly a sight to behold! The elevator down is worth the ride - you ‘ll ‘feel’ the waterfall way better, and perhaps get a little sprinkled. Regardless of taking the elevator or not, it’s really a sight to behold!

Our visit to Kegon Falls in Nikko, Japan during the winter season left us utterly amazed and in awe of the magnificent beauty that nature has to offer. As we approached the falls, we were immediately captivated by its sheer grandeur and the powerful rush of water cascading down from a height of 97 meters. What made the experience even more special was how well the area had been developed and made accessible to tourists. Pathways and viewing decks were thoughtfully constructed to allow visitors to fully appreciate the mesmerizing sight of the waterfall. We were able to get up close to the falls as we marveled at the awe-inspiring force of nature right before us. It was also our first encounter with snow and snowfall. The trees were adorned with delicate blankets of snow, transforming the entire landscape into a breathtaking scene straight out of a storybook. In the midst of this picturesque setting, we couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the beautiful creation of God. The harmonious combination of the roaring waterfall, the peaceful snow-covered surroundings, and the ethereal snowfall filled our hearts with a profound appreciation for the wonders of the natural world. Our visit to Kegon Falls will forever hold a special place in our memories, serving as a reminder of the stunning beauty that can be found in even the harshest of winter landscapes. It was a humbling experience that left us with a renewed sense of wonder and gratitude for the incredible creations of God that exist in our world.

Must visit place during autumn in Nikko. It’s absolutely mesmerizing. One day trip to Nikko from Tokyo is best to spend a weekend or any consecutive holidays. Very easily accessible from Tokyo Asakusa station via Tobu Nikko line, there are passes available which could be chosen accordingly.

I'm really mesmerized by looking at this waterfall.. I visited this place during the Autumn season(weekday). Even though it was more crowded than expected and a freaking cold day, Nikko's beautiful landscape made me forget all odds and thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening.. parking 🅿️ fee 320¥.. I could see many enjoying barbecue fish and baked sweet potatoes... I suggest everyone take the elevator which takes us 100mts down and enjoy the waterfall.. elevator view costs 570¥. this elevator has a history which is almost 90yrs old and quite big to fit almost 25people at a time..🇯🇵🇯🇵

Gorgeous falls, highly recommend the elevator in particular to have a view from the ground level. Do wish you could get closer to the falls, and you'll need to check the weather for fog (seriously, the first day we visited we could hear a tremendous waterfall, but literally couldn't see a glimpse). The nearby lake is beautiful and clear, but the clouds rolling over the mountains are a double edged sword. It makes it frequently mystical feeling, but also makes some days less than ideal. Again, check the weather.

This area is stunningly beautiful but sadly we had torrential rain all day which did limit the experience. Definitely somewhere to visit when the sunshine is shining. It is a popular place for visitors so can get busy. I believe it is the third highest waterfall in Japan. There is a lift that takes you to the bottom of the falls, but be aware that there is then a walk with steps in case of limited mobility.

It costs ¥570 to take the elevator down to the falls. The three levels on the observation deck was plenty of space but the bottom one had the best view. The rock formations were breathtaking and the waterfall looked surreal

A very beautiful waterfall. You go down an elevator to a viewing platform down the cliffs, to see the entirety of the falls. There are some food vendors outside as well as on the viewing platform during season (visited in winter and they were closed).

The observation platform has 3 levels: worth checking all three levels given a small difference in the viewing angles provide a slightly different experience. Winter is not the best season to come as there’s much less water than it is in the summer. Still, it’s a really nice view that brings me a sense of calmness and peacefulness. Also really cool to see the shadows of the waterfall. Definitely recommend a visit!

Super nice, but was snowing today. Made a snowball! Watched water flowing strongly over the cliff edge. Got strawberry ice cream. Lake is nice view. Big and peaceful. Very winding roads up and down - drive carefully!

I visited on the morning of January 29, Monday. From my experience it's better to visit this first since I heard the road to here can get quite congested during peak season (autumn). If you plan to also go to Akechidaira lookout / ropeway, go there first as it is a one way road. I come from a tropical country where waterfalls are fairly common, but Kegon falls in winter is such a beautiful sight. It's quiet with only a few tourists.

Very beautiful. Others are more spectacular (Yellowstone and Niagara, for simple examples). There were crowds, so patience is required. We enjoyed a lovely day visiting both Kegon and other sites (sulfur hot springs) nearby. Don't roll your windows down when you do the road song driving down the mountain after leaving Kegon Falls.

It’s a long trip on the bus up to Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Waterfall. The waterfall is very impressive and well worth a look. I really enjoyed the viewing platform which is accessible via a special elevator - definitely worth the small fee.

We came here after taking the breakfast in the hotel nearby. We took a short walk on a section of the lake shore. Probably no people around, the lake was so quiet and mellow. Enjoyable moments!

Beautiful lake. We were amazed at the colors behind the mountains and as they reflected on the water during sunset we got to witness visions of glorious and colorful colors.

Beautiful views of the lake any time of the day but early morning and at sunset are the most dramatic and moody.

A very beautiful lake. We stayed at the by the lake for a night and it was really peaceful. Although there’s nothing much to shop, there are a lot of waterfalls nearby lake Chuzenji. It is worth it to stay a night here and visit all the waterfalls around the area.

Beautiful lake and worth a visit to see this gorgeous sight. Had a nice day around the lake and even went on a paddle boat 1500 Yen for 30 minutes. However the experience on the boat was quite scary as the cruise sight seeing ships do go around you and generate large waves . So a cautious attitude towards it would be wise to avoid getting splashed by icy cold water or even worse capsize.

One of popular tourist spot you can mark for your visit around Nikko area, 3 hours drive from Tokyo. With the curve and small road, it is required skillful driver. Visit here around 3rd-4th week of October- 1st week of November should be good to see autumn leaves. I found the place was quite, calm and good for walking /wandering around the lake.

Chozenji Lake is a stunning natural attraction in Nikko National Park, where you can enjoy the beauty of the lake and the surrounding mountains. You can also visit the Kegon Falls,or go for hiking from Yunoko lake to Chuzenji.(various bus stations in between) The lake area has a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants to suit your taste and budget. The lake is accessible by bus from Nikko Station, which is about 40 minutes away. The bus fare is 1,150 yen for one way and 2,000 yen for a round trip. You can also buy a discount pass that includes the bus fare and the entrance fee to the Kegon Falls and the Chuzenji Temple. The pass costs 2,600 yen for adults and 1,300 yen for children. However, be aware that the bus service is not very frequent, especially in the off-season. The bus runs every 30 minutes in the peak season but you may have to wait for a long time or take a taxi if you miss the bus. Also, the lake can get very crowded during the weekends and holidays, especially in the autumn when the leaves change color. You may want to avoid these times if you prefer a quieter and more relaxing experience. Overall, Chozenji Lake is a wonderful place to visit if you want to see the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Nikko. Just make sure to plan ahead and check the bus schedule and the weather before you go.

I love this lake view in Nikko. This is one of my favorite spots to visit during the Fall season. The Autumn colors have just started and the climate is getting cold already. The town looks so nice and you can see that many tourits are coming here to visit the place. There are many shops all over the place including cafes, restaurants and hotels. You can also have a nice view at the observatory and you can take a short cruise trip around the lake. It is so nice for fishing, camping, kayaking and jetski.

Peaceful view at Lake Chūzenji, as I cruise along the lake, while Mount Nantai was shying away behind the clouds, didn’t manage to capture the full mountain view. Weather was breezy & cooling during this summer. I met a local who kayak along the lake and few others sitting under the trees just to wind down over the weekend and appreciating the beauty of this lake. Calmness remain even right after I bid sayonara to this beautiful lake!

Totally perfect. We went in late-winter when there was as yet a chill and there was an extremely lovely and serious air. There weren't many individuals and the grayness of the sky, the exposed state of the trees, and the quietness of the lake caused us to feel like we were in the setting of a book. Extremely gorgeous The shade of the lake is extremely unblemished and interesting. It is extremely stunning when it is seen from Mount Hangetsu. You can visit it in 4 distinct seasons since it has four unique looks yet you ought to visit it during harvest time since it will be the most gorgeous in that season. Lake Chūzenji likewise called Ocean of Satisfaction, is a picturesque lake in Nikkō Public Park in the city of Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It was made quite a while back when Mount Nantai (2484 m) emitted and obstructed the waterway. The lake has a surface area of 11.62 km² and an outline of 25 km. Its height at the surface is 1,269 m (4,124 ft), and the water arrives at a profundity of 163 m (508 ft). The Yukawa Stream is the chief wellspring of water. It channels through the Kegon Falls. Chuzenji Lake was found in 782 by a minister named Shōdō when his gathering prevailed with regards to climbing Mt. Nantai. Considered consecrated, the mountain was shut to ladies, ponies, and cows until 1872. In the Meiji time frame and early Showa period, numerous European government offices assembled excursion houses around the lake. The previous Italian estate has been recharged and is currently open to guests. Different destinations around the lake incorporate Futara Place of worship worked in 790, Chuzenji Sanctuary, and Kegon Falls. In spring, cherry blooms are sprouting. In summer, individuals can get away from the intensity and appreciate bird watching and climbing. In fall obviously, there are the popular lovely pre-winter leaves and in winter there is the Snow and Ice Celebration, in addition to winter sports like skiing and skating.

Beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. Will come back again during other seasons.

Famous bridge. They charge you ¥300 to walk on it. You don't need to do that, you can get nice shots from the street. 📣tip: walk up the hill to kanaya hotel. On the right of the main building there is a garden and tiny path with a sign. Walk down the stairs, it's free and you don't need to be a guest. When you walk down you'll get all the way to the rivers edge where you'll get a great unique shot of the bridge.

Since you're paying 300¥ for this, I expected a better restoration/maintenance over the bridge. There were unpainted zones, and a wooden floor over the sidewalk so it was impossible to had an experience as it was on the past. The shrine is just crossing the street but the fence is closed on the bridge side, so you have to make a U turn, to the entrance and then cross to the shrine.

One of the attraction spot in Nikko. Easily accessible by Bus using 2days Nikko pass. Its has entry fee of 300¥ at the time but you cannot cross the bridge. Its only for tour and photo-shot. You can take pictures from outside and road too, so need to enter if you don’t have any historical values to Bridge. I think, it looks great in Autumn.

The bridge and surrounding red leaf landscape are beautiful in autumn. There are so many tourists that it is difficult to take commemorative photos.

Legend says that when the first head priest asked the mountain deities for a way to cross the Daiya river, two snakes appeared and transformed into the crimson bridge we see today. There is an entrance fee if you want to walk and cross over on the bridge. It should be a great photospot if you are attired with props and all. Otherwise, taking a photograph from the modern bridge nearby will justify its beauty just as much. Admission closes at 3pm if I recall correctly.

It was very beautiful and rests over the leanest running water I’ve ever seen…. I so wish we could walk all the ay to the sides of the bridge, but I understand for protective reasons why you walk on this mat type thing, it because of the barriers I couldn’t get the beautiful picture I wanted of this beautiful bridge. It was truly a beauty in the middle of this highway looking road.

A quick photo spot if you are in Nikko. Not worth it to pay to cross the bridge as taking it by the street is so much nicer. There is no parking nearby so you have to park else where.

Famous spot for most tourist who visit Nikko before they went up to enjoy the rest of attractions. Take a moment to enjoy the view at the bridge and encapsulate it in your moments at Nikko. This Iconic bridge remains well maintained and the vicinity was clean. I trust you will enjoy the view even more when it comes to autumn soon.

Small bridge with a mesmerizing view behind. It is the first station before heading up the stairs to see the shrines and temples or keep on walking down the road to the Kanmangafuchi Abyss. Walking on the bridge requires a ticket, 300 yen, which is sold at the adjacent ticket booth .

When I first saw this bridge in person last fall, I was inside a bus. On April 9, 2024, my wife drove near it and asked me to capture an image of it. We have seen many red-painted bridges and this one was still so close but so far away from us.

Well it may seem strange but of all the sights of Japan this one has left a lasting impression. So small but just so beautiful as we walked from Joshuya Ryokan to the temples. The Bridge over the Daiya River is a sacred and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan. The bridge spans the Daiya River and connects the Futarasan Shrine with the Toshogu Shrine. It was originally built in the 8th century, but was destroyed by a flood in the 17th century. It was rebuilt in 1636 and has been preserved in its current form ever since. T

The bridge is beautifull to see and we understand they make you pay to civer maintenance. However it’s definetly not worth paying 300 yen to walk the bridge for some minutes. What more the pictures are best from the main bridge so you don’t really need to pay.

Visited late Nov, the bridge is beautiful from the outside. Did not pay to enter the bridge. Continued the walk up to the Toshogu Shrine which was littered with beautiful autumn colours. I find the least tiring way is to take the bus to Shinkyo bridge then visit the temples and walk downhill back to Nikko Station.

Bridge walk experience is ¥300 for adults, ¥200 for teenagers and ¥100 for children Autumn colors were good, but may be this weekend would be peak. Good view of river flowing bridge and the colorful mountains behind.

Such a beautiful spot for photographers and models or people who love nature. Went at the wrong time though. Should have gone during peak winter or during Autumn to see the true beauty. Best time to visit: early November or late January- mid February (when it snows or after snow)

If you love the old classic Japan that everyone knows, this is a fantastic place to go. Ninja show was amazing. Magistrate theater was hilarious even if I didn't understand it all. But I'll admit my favorite was the fire fighter museum. Truly inspirational. Plan to spend at least 3-4 hours, but all day if you choose to see and read everything, get dressed up in costume, and interact with all the staff who are in costume and character down to the janitorial staff. Awesome!

A wonderful place to spend a day. Easy to get lost in it all. Not as large as some places - it’s like Connor Prairie (Fishers, IN) with ninjas! Love being able to dress up! Street food choices, a few adult choices. Not much by way of souvenirs in the gift shop, though. Beautiful, although probably not something to do more than every few years. This isn’t so much a place to learn about the history, but it’s fun.

Was a lot of fun. We arrived, dressed up as samurai and enjoyed the park. The staff there act as if it were during the edo period and react to how you are dressed. There are many characters you can play. Then there were a few shows that were all awesome. The ninja show was incredible. The water show was also nice. Great place for kids too as they have a ninja and samurai training camp for them. They also have this cave / outdoor maze which was fun. There was a tilted house that throws your perception off and requires balance. They say its to train the ninjas. Great time overall.

It was a fantastic experience! Love it and would recommend it to everyone. I’ve been to the Edo park in Kyoto but this one gave a different atmosphere. The village is small and people are super friendly!!! There’s a lot of things to do here, like experiencing Edo textile weaves or the ninja training. You just need to pay a small extra amount of money. The shows are free of charge, which was great since I enjoyed all of them. However, these shows do not have English explanations (except the ninja show), so maybe it's a little bit confusing for those who don't speak Japanese. The only minus point is that there aren't many shops here and no convenient stores, so not many choices available. But in general, I still want to give this place a 5-star.

A japanese cultural theme park. Guests can enjoy the culture of Edo period and experience some fun activities and try some food and buy souvenirs. I would recommend seeing the ninja show! It's a must. Kids can also do some fun activities there as well. Try to attend all of their shows, it's worth it.

We were glad that we decided to go ahead despite weather report showing full day rain. Almost every shows are great, and special shoutout to Ninja Show, and Ninja Training Course. Highly recommending spending a day here if you are in Nikko! We spent about 6ish hours and we still feel it’s not enough, but was rushing to catch the final shuttle bus back.

When visiting Nikko, my top priority is Edo Wonderland. I love the idea of immersing myself in a small town that captures the essence of old Japan. As soon as I step inside Edo Wonderland, I am transported to the Tokugawa period. The stunning architecture, the attire of everyone working there, and the food all make me feel like I am living in that time period. There are shows in every hour and different theaters, each one uniquely good and interesting. In the end, I wrap a coin in paper and throw it onto the stage as a token of appreciation. In addition, there is a free bus to take you to and from. I highly recommend this experience.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Outfit rentals are a little pricey (up to 10,000+ Yen for some) but worth while for the immersive experience. Admission tickets and outfit rentals can be done with credit cards, everything else inside is CASH ONLY, so come prepared if you plan to eat or drink inside the park. Shows are scheduled a little too close together with not enough showings so you can't exit one show and jump right into the next, specially for shows that are popular and fill quickly. If you REALLY want to see a show at a specific time get there 10-15 minutes early and get in line. Because of the show schedule I mentioned above, I HIGHLY recommend you get to Edo Wonderland as soon as they open, specially if you plan to rent an outfit. There is a 30-45min wait between selecting/paying for your outfit and the actual fitting. My wife and I used the wait time to eat so we could avoid getting hungry while at the park. We did buy some hot drinks between shows: the Amazake and Citron tea were delicious, and they had English menus at the little cafe. Due to the town being Edo themed, all the shop name signs are in Japanese only, although the park map has them in English. There is a free shuttle from the JR Nikko station to Edo Wonderland. The shuttle does not run very frequently so make sure you either catch the first one or arrive close to one of the departures, I'll attach a picture of the JR Nikko Station Edomura shuttle schedule. The shuttle is red says Edo Wonderland right on it, you can't miss it. The stop is just left of the JR Nikko Station exit.

This is good place to visit but I was expecting a little more. It's definitely a nice place for kids. You can rent an custome and dress like they did during the Edo period. It's a nice family outing.

Fun place to visit, not only for the very well recreated Edo houses and townscape, but also for the different shows you can go to (all included in the admission price). You can easily spend the entre day. I recommend staying until they close and exit when you hear the drum... you'll be pleasantly surprised when you exit the park! If you have the Nikko free pass, the bus to the park is included.

There was enough things to see and do from opening to closing. The food was tasty and the entertainment was enjoyable. If you have a translation device bring it. All the shows are in Japanese but still fun to watch if you can’t understand. Make sure to decide on what you want to see most because there is not enough time. I did the Samurai Experience but there are several others to enjoy.

We were here on a weekday and it was a little quiet. The Ninja and Water shows are great. I wish they had more english translation to tell the stories or provide instructions on what to do. The costumes were abit overpriced but food was good.

If you're from Australia, think of this as the Japanese version of Sovereign Hill Ballarat. If you don't know that think of a historic theme park without the rides. Our 10 year old dressed up as a ninja and loved the interaction. We spent over 6 hours here and enjoyed it. We loved the water fight at 12.30 our son loved all the ninja training. Entrance was around $50 assume you'll spend another $20 each on other stuff in the park, either food or a few of the games.

Great experience for adults and kids. Few shows are presented during the day (specific hours provided in a guidebook). Please mind most of them are in Japanese. Snack bars, play rooms, museum, photo spots, and in general - lot of fun. Edo Wonderland is an ancient village reconstruction located in beautiful scenery. Parking fee 800¥ for car.

Although a huge fan of Disneyland and Disneysea, I think adding a visit to Edo Wonderland for an absolutely Japan-centered cultural experience might put the finishing touches on your delicious destination cake. For those who want an immersive taste of Edo Japan, this is an absolute must. I've lived in Japan for 36 years, only a couple hours drive from Nikko, but had never made it to Edo Wonderland, until last Saturday for a special night Sakura viewing event (they apparently have special events throughout the year). What a Wonderland it truly is! I often golf about 30 minutes away in Utsunomiya so I am now kicking myself that I never took the time until now to make my way here. I expected it to be really artificial and touristy, but oh no! The authenticity and the friendliness and welcome from each and every Edo costumed and Edo acting staff, was the real deal. Literally an exquisitely designed Edo-style village, even the carp in the expansive lake are a unpretentious with their deep brown color. The rice cracker osembei offered on main-street comes right off of grandma's clay hibachi and the Ninja show chooses to tell a story about the Ninja lifestyle instead of simply perform cool stunts. We were lucky to witness a beautiful procession featuring elegantly dressed Geisha, sip hot Amazake rice porridge and get the feeling we had time-slipped away from the crowds of modern Tokyo into the every day life of an Edo village. This would be a fantastic place to go in any capacity; solo, couples, friends, family. I was also impressed with the well placed and unobtrusive English language support. The pageantry of Edo-style dress and architecture along with the smiling faces and hearty laughter of the welcoming staff will be a lasting memory for both visitors and those who call Japan home.

Amazing experience, you get to travel back in time and experience Edo period recreations and craftsmanship. Staff were extremely helpful from the get go, you get given the map and a schedule with times for the shows. Very easy to navigate the park itself and try different activities. If it's in your budget, I recommend visiting the costume rental shop and just immerse yourself in it.

This is so much fun! Me and my wife enjoyed ourselves immensely getting dressed up on historic clothes and just walking through this beautiful village. Seeing the children dress up as ninjas and princess run around the town mad me wish i was 5 again. There are shows and exhibits were you can learn a lot about the past. And thers also historical themed food and drink. You dont have to dress up, but i recommen you do!

Edo Wonderland is a good place if you want to experience Japan's Edo period. I came here on April 2023 and it was rainy season, so I didn't experience all of the attractions. The place is really cool with a lot of old style houses and the staffs were wearing outfits that match the Edo period. I had to try the foods in one of the restaurants and it was good.

A great place to learn about and experience edo Japan for all the family. You can dress up as your favourite edo character, eat traditional foods and watch many shows. The team are friendly and professional. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Wonderful, colorful exhibition of scale replicas of famous buildings from around the world. Easy to navigate, with rest areas and an indoor play area for small children. Best time to visit would be in the spring, fall or winter. Gift shop, eateries, locker storage and also a prayer room. Lots of parking. Nearest station is Tobu World Square Station.

Had real fun exploring architectures around the world in one place, the information of those structures are available in English as well. Very beautifully sculptured and well protected sculptures. It was knowledgeable and interesting to take photos and videos. I went with 14 members on the new year holidays and it was not that crowded it was an enjoyable day. The price was 2800 yen normally but with the Nikko pass you get a 1000yen discount which definitely is worth it! And they have a souvenir shop inside and some food stalls if you need a bite.

You can get a discount if you have the Nikko pass so buy the ticket at the counter. No senior discount unfortunately. We liked the place a lot. You need about 1.5 to 2 hrs to visit and take pictures of all the models. My parents loved it. The models especially the churches from Europe are superb with attention given to every minute details of the architecture and design.

This place is fantastic. A lot of very big replica of monuments and places around the world with a lot of small details on each of them. A perfect way to discover the world, even for kids. They even have English explanation.

Since it was an open museum, avoid going to this place in summer.. We visited in the beginning of October and by god's grace it was not so sunny.. Personally I feel the ticket is pricey and in addition to the entry ticket the parking fee is 500¥. Easily you can spend & enjoy 3-4hrs..

Miniature versions of popular tourist attractions and landmarks from all over the world that can best be enjoyed with churros (from one of the shops within the facility). Ok for a 2-3 hour visit.

This is nice holiday escape with your friends and family. All the renowned architecture are created as a model. There is illuminations also from autumn. You should visit in a time so that you can see it day and night as well. Whole park will take about 1.5 hours.

Amazing place. Ended up spending 5.5 hours. The detailing on the 1:25 scale models is so amazing. The ticket fee is discounted by 100 yen if you show them the coupon on their website. The model of sagrada familia church in Spain was very impressive. Also there is a diorama where you can see 3 train running. Thoroughly impressed and amazed.

Do not miss this amazing place when in Nikko. You get to see the famous places and architectures of the world all within an area of about 2 to 3 football field. There are of course a lot of focus on Japanese historical buildings and modern buildings. I do find the great wall of China is kinda under represented the actual.

We visited with family and kids. Everyone explored and enjoyed it to the fullest. The miniature structures were fascinating for kids. Keep 100 yen coins handy for mini shows at each structure. Would definitely recommend visiting if traveling to Nikko.

Miniature buildings are all maintained and well-crafted neatly You can also put 100Jpy to trigger some miniature performances like marching, dancing, working amusement attractions or ships passing the canal. Worthy 2800 JPY if you like nice architecture around the world. Especially, around Japan. If you don't know where you should visit in Japan, I recommend starting with this place

Coming here on a weekday is highly recommended. This can be pretty packed on weekends (I know because I have been here twice), but this time we had the park almost all to ourselves, we spent like 15 minutes each exhibit so we had so much of nice pictures to choose from, I am only posting the ones we are not in though, and it’s not a lot unfortunately, but yeah, it was a visit well spent and I would come back again just for the heck of it. 😁

It’s a beautiful place of the well known places/ sites in the world. Wru beautifully down and very realistic. Loved that the miniature Trina’s and airplanes are functional just like the real ones 🤩

Stayed 3 hours as a group of 3 teens and 5 adults when we planned on 2 and we could have easily stayed 5. The detail, the cleanliness, and the gardening (bonsai trees everywhere to go with the miniature building) were all done exceptionally well. We very much enjoyed comparing the size of the structures to each other - using 1/25 scale for everything allowed us to gain some perspective on how large some buildings really are.

Great way to spend a couple hours. Even my 14 yo was entertained by the buildings. We went during the week and there were few people there. The weather was perfect but if you go on a warm day I would recommend a hat or umbrella as there is little shade. They really are something interesting to see and worth the ticket price. Staff was very nice and the park was clean. I recommend it as a stop when in the area.

I had a fantastic first visit to Tobu World Square! As an art lover, the attention to detail in the intricate models blew me away. The park is a testament to the saying ‘It’s a small world indeed,’ bringing global landmarks right to your fingertips. My weekend visit was especially pleasant due to the lighter crowds. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates the artistry of architecture—it’s a world tour in just a few hours and a reminder of how connected our world truly is!

It's a very cute place especially for the children. However, being an adult I have enjoyed it too.

Worth the 3 hour train ride from Tokyo. Very nice they have a model of the beautiful Twin Towers, the star attraction of the exhibit in my opinion.

A small waterfall. You can view it from near the gallery outside the giftshop. Not super spectacular, but if you happen to pass by, good to stop by here for a little shopping or food. I visited during late autumn where most of the colorful leaves had fallen. Will be much nicer during the peak of autumn.

Less impressive compared to Kegon falls, but quite beautiful nevertheless! If you go on local buses, stop at 38 (instead of 37), and go downwards, instead of all the way up and then down. Well-located inside the forest, quite scenic & aome great views!

Nice fall . Taking the elevator down to the viewing area. Not much water. But overall experience is still worth it. Need to buy the ticket and also walk down the stairs after the elevator.

This waterfalls is near Nikko, in Japan. We took a bus from Nikko Station. Needless to say that the bus and train connections are extremely convenient in Japan. It was a very scenic drive through forest area next to a lake in many parts. It was a rainy day, so we couldn't explore much. The bus stop was very close to the waterfalls. We walked a bit from the bus stop to reach the falls, the twin falls looked great. The trees around had partly fall colors which made it very beautiful. There was a gift shop and a small restaurant. There was a hiking trail to the top. But we couldn't do it because of rain. On the way back to the station, we stopped at a famous temple and took a few pictures of an ancient bridge - Shinkiyo bridge over a gorgeous river and with the back drop of mountains. The whole of Nikko area was very scenic with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, mountains and forests.

I recommend coming here early. it's very beautiful but a short stay, unless you want to hike further. I also highly recommend the chocolate special in the coffee shop nearby. It's very special and delicious.

Recommended place to stop by and take time here. There is a cafe where you can just sit, sipping coffee, and enjoying a close up view of the falls. Or you can walk a bit further to behind the fall, there is a park for relaxation where you can also see panoramic view of Chuzenji lake. I went there a few week late from the peak of autumn period, there is no autumn leave left. But the falls gave me another feeling of winter which is also good.

Easy to view, simply park and enter through the shop in the center to the back to view the dual waterfalls. We missed the peak fall when the leaves were at its best viewing but still beautiful nonetheless. A gift shop, coffee stand and hot ramen is available here as well.

Amazing waterfall and the track up to Yudaki was beautiful so much lush landscape. There are bears and deers in the area so make sure you are aware and we saw two snakes

You can see waterfall at low, middle and high level. The low level is very crowded and small deck for standing to see the view. However, cafe there has very delicious desserts. The middle level is so beautiful too.but the top one is just so so. Photo took at 18 Oct 2023

This falls is so amazing. It has a very nice view most especially during autumn season. It is a long falls that will take some 250 staiway steps going at the peak of it. I love the sound of the waterfalls combined with the cold breeze of Fall season. So many tourists are coming around to take pictures and videos here. I love this place so much

This is a really beautiful area. The main shop and parking area at the bottom offers the 2 split waterfalls. Weekends during autumn are very busy and parking is hectic but free. If you enjoy a little walk (25 minutes) I suggest you park higher up the road near a bridge. It’s also free parking and you can enjoy the beauty winding river and other waterfalls as you walk down the path towards the base. It’s paved with stairs and lovely foliage on both sides. You will be surrounded by tourists and photographers. Definitely worth visiting as the views are breathtaking.

Beautiful falls! About 6 or 7 flights of stairs to get to the stop. The view at the bottom is just as good. Recommend catching the bus to stop 38 and walking down the falls instead of up.

It was a rainy day when we visited. We were the only two people there and while the terrace stairs had slushy snow on the ground, we’re able to get up to the terrace no problem. Definitely worth visiting on a clear day.

Just a short walk from the car park. The viewing platform is part of the tea house. Just look out for the signage. It means dragon head in Japanese and you can sort of imagine the rocks between the falls as the dragon head and the falls themselves are the breath from the dragon’s nostrils?

Nice, easy walk with wide stairs to go along the fall. The Autumn fall color is extraordinary beautiful. The environment is clean but not overcrowded. Parking is an issue but there's always to find a spot.

This area is just special as there are historic temples which are all beautiful. Nikkō Futarasan is one of the most important Shinto shrines in Japan and is listed. It is dedicated to three deities: Okuninushi, the god of nation-building; Takemikazuchi, the god of thunder; and Himegami, the goddess of fertility. It is believed that these deities descended from heaven and established the shrine over 1,200 years ago. But you can just soak in the atmosphere.

Very holy, spiritual place. You should visit the back of the shrine. That's a must-see! You can enjoy and feel holy there.

NIKKO FUTARASAN-JINJA Futarasan-jinja Shrine Futarasan-jinja Shrine was originally established on the summit of Mt. Nantai by the monk and mountain ascetic Shodo Shonin (735–817) in 782. Originally, Mt. Nantai was called Mt. Futara, and the characters for “futara" can be read as "niko." Eventually “niko" became “nikko” giving this region its name. Futarasan-jinja's grounds cover over 3,400 hectares in Nikko-including Chugushi Shrine, located on the shore of Lake Chuzenji; a small shrine on top of Mt. Nantai; Kegon Falls; Iroha road; and the mountains of Nikko National Park. The main buildings of Futarasan-jinja are located to the west of Toshogu Shrine and are surrounded by many sacred trees. One auspicious tree is said to bring luck in finding a marriage partner; a pair that are joined at the base are thought to bestow marital happiness; and another set of three trees bound at the roots is thought to grant a happy home life. The Shrine Garden contains several historically important shrine buildings as well as allowing for a closer inspection of the worship hall (haiden) and the main hall (honden), which were both built in 1619. Within the Shrine Garden is a spring, believed to be a fountain of youth, and a small tea shop. In 1999 Futarasan-jinja, Toshogu Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple were designated the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shrines and Temples of Nikko. Futarasan-jinja alone contains 23 Important Cultural Properties.

Futarasan Jinja is famous shrine located in Nikko area. This is famous about good relationship, friendship, love and any connection between persons.

Nice humble temple near the end. Entrance fee is low(er) than other place. Quite nice and serene here. Hopefully I didn’t mess up the photo. It was a rainy day.

Historic places with very nice scenery. Big tall trees around makes it even better.

Contains one of the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan. Gochuin is available here. Apparently, this shrine is famous for helping people find love.

Make sure you visit the Amazing botanical garden in front of the first building. It's amazing with beautiful greens all over the place. You can purchase a combined ticket for garden, and two other shrines. The one uphill has a wonderful natural trees and all kinds of beuties. Make sure you make it there.

Beautiful place Located next to Toshogu in the Nikko UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded by Shodo Shonin, the monk who introduced Buddhism to Nikko. Dedicated to the deities of Mount Nantai, Mount Nyoho and Mount Taro

This is a famous temple located in Nikko san area. It is very gorgeous style and have many beautiful and interesting statues. This enshrines Iemitau Tokugawa who is one of the mm most famous general in the Edo era.

This temple is my second favorite inside the complex. You can purchase a ticket for admission to the temple only, or a combination ticket that also includes admission to the Nikkozan Rin’nōji Temple, which was not particularly interesting. The Taiyu-in Temple was a beautiful structure with intricate details. It was worth spending a good amount of time examining every part. After climbing many steps amongst a bunch of large lanterns, you'll reach the top and find a lavishly designed temple. Inside, you can remove your shoes, sit, relax, and listen to a dedicated guide explain the history of the building.

Less crowded, but small and beautiful. Two staff people explained a lot of the history and craftsmanship in Japanese. The huge door houses 4 "Oni" (demons?) protecting the place from bad things coming from 4 cardinal direction. The blue one is actually the only one existing in all Japan. Their names were too complicated to remember, but some Japanese words used still today originate from the onis' clothes and face expressions.

Our final temple of a full day of temple touring. None disappointed as they all have different histories and appeal. Taiyuin is the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate. To honor his grandfather, Iemitsu renovated Toshogu Shrine, the mausoleum of Ieyasu, and had Taiyuin constructed to face Toshogu.

For myself, this is the most beautiful temple complex in Nikko. It is a bit away from the others, it has a lot of stairs to climb, but it is well worth it, once you arrive. The complex has several shrines and a Mausoleum, all wonderfully embedded in the nature of Nikko's mountains.

This is really a mausoleum complex for the third shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. Majestically set amongst towering cedars, it is a wonderfully atmospheric place. The mossy forest, full of ferns, adds considerably to the beauty of the site. A stone staircase leads upwards through three sets of ornamental gates, beautifully decorated in black and gold, to a hall and tomb in the forest. Highly recommended.

This is also beautiful temple. The thing is you have seen a lot in a day. Now you are kinda confused where you are at. Ticket is bundle with another temple with 50 yen discount if I remember correctly.

This was my favorite part of the Rinnoji Temple complex. It is the mausoleum for Tokugawa Iemitsu, the 3rd Tokugawa Shogun. While not quite as ornate as Toshogu Shrine, which is for his grandfather Tokugawa Ieyasu, it is still beautiful. You can enter the temple hall in the back and hear about the statues, history, etc. from a monk (Japanese only). Of all spots up here, this was the least crowded part of the complex, even during Golden Week. It was nice to be away from the crowds and have time to slow down, read the signs about the history, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommend!

One of the most intricate and well maintained temple compounds I have seen in any of my visits to Japan. The architecture and design choices definitely fit the high importance of this temple. Built to be the temple and final resting place of Tokugawa Iemitsu, 3rd generation Tokugawa shogun, it is a very important set of gates and buildings. While the mausoleum very likely does not protect Iemitsu's remains (those are likely in his families original temple compound far from Nikko) the compound is insanely ornate and beautiful.

This was mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu which was the grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu which his mausoleum located in Toshogu. This mausoleum location was much better in terms of trees and isolation. I think it’s the most impressive area of Nikko heritage site area.

Definitively one of the most beautiful temple in the area. Highly recommended. It is just a short walk from the Toshogu temple.

Really amazing and pretty! I recommend paying (550 yens per adult). The can see the typical japenese temple but as well as one that have been inspire by the ming dynasty of china

We visited here on 11-February-2024 during winter. It was amazing and surrounded by snow. Bridges and paths were covered by snow it was fun to play and walking on the snow. On the top the lake was frozen and water was falling from under the frozen lake. Anyone planning to visit Nikko you must come here in winter season. I believe it will be much spectacular in autumn and spring also. Overall I enjoyed this trip a lot. Maybe because I went with friends and also snow was radiating positive energy.

Yudaki Falls named as one of the most beautiful 5 waterfalls of Nikko. 70 meter high and 110 meter in length waterfall located at the southern tip of Yunoko Lake. Go to all the way down to enjoy full view of its powerful appearance from an observation platform.

The four star is because I'm the Google was written 24 hours open but when arriving the road was closed and restaurant and shops were closed. But the nature is very beautiful The scenery from top to the bottom is amazing On top there is a small lake which you can come down the stairs to the bottom and see abetter view of the waterdal. They also provided a path with woods which you can circulate in different areas nearby the waterfalls. Inarch it's not that special rather it should be beautiful in autumn and later inay etc.

This is a beautiful fall readily accessible by car or bus. I was there on a winter day and there was hardly anyone there. The short walk from the bus stop got a bit challenging due to ice and snow. But it's well worth it.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls I've seen in Japan especially during the Autumn foliage.. the pictures speak for themselves! The waterfall is hugged by amazing colorful trees.. must visit during Autumn

The track from Ryuzu Falls to Yudaki was beautiful and worth the trip. Roughly 7-8kms and when we got to the top we were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful views and then catch a bus down from the top

Beautiful waterfall on the northern outskirts of Nikko. We were surprised to see well over 10 monkeys hanging around in the trees surrounding the area. For parking, we followed the suggestion of another review and parked above the waterfall by the lake, then walked down to avoid the parking fees. I’m sure this is subject to crowd levels and how much you like stairs. It was nice to see the different views of the waterfall from the stairs and the lake at the top. I would caution people to drive carefully and watch their tires on these roads as we got a flat tire from some glass in the area.

Beautiful falls with a small hiking loop you can take. Loved the walk, but there were warnings about bear sighting in the area. If you're lucky might be able to see monkeys! Parking was 500 yen.

The waterfall was absolutely stunning especially with the leaves changing color. You can drive there, take a bus or hike. The hike is great if you have the time and want to enjoy nature.

The falls are accessible from the top where there’s a free car park. There’s a 500 yen charge for bottom car park. The falls are quite spectacular. You can also walk around Yunoko lake from the top car park.

Yudaki falls is beautiful with autumn leaves. You can see at low and high level. It's quite tired to go up to high level and the top view is just so so for me. Beautiful waterfall and a nice size deck to view the gorgeousness of the water. They also have a trail along the right side that goes all the way up to the top and a small trail along the left near the river. A few good stalls and vendors are right before you each the falls. It’s really a short walk from the parking lot with bathroom facilities. The charge to park and enter is ¥500 for regular size vehicles.

Beautiful view. Could sit and enjoy the way of falling. Small staircase to climb up, where you can enjoy the lake view and waterfall at the top. Nice snack shops are there, where you can buy hot hot Dango 🍡 and grilled fish. There’s small free car park at the top of the waterfall. But the car park down there is ¥500.

We came here during raining day and it’s all mist up here which couldn’t see the waterfalls. But it was very nice atmosphere, probably will right back.

Nikko is best place and must visit spot when u visit Japan. Its around 3 to 4 hours drive away from Tokyo. Breathtaking view is seen at Nikko national park. Lake Chuzenji is also there which is also beautiful place for nature loving tourist. While going to Nikko the sightseeing around you will gonna attract you as its totally greenish and curves on road.

Lovely walk in the forest. Easy walking. Careful of exposed tree roots. Lots of picturesque river sites.

I simply love Nikko in general, it's beautiful, lot of attractions and places to visit and get to know more about Japanese Culture, the Temples and Shrines are worth the visit plus you might get to see the monkeys playing around.

Kegon Falls is located at lake Chuzenji in Nikko, Tochigi, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan. Ryuzu Falls is located at Chugushi, Nikko, Tochigi, Japan.

Beside Kegon waterfall, don't miss the sightseeing boat cruise at Chuzenji Lake! You will be amazed. It's really worth an hour trip to watch these beautiful red leaves scenery. Visited: Oct 26, 2023.

I went there on 11 November 2023. The leave are not completely yellow, but you can catch the nice view at lake. You can use limited express, but you need to reserve or buy ticket in advance, the price around 5600 yen and around 3 hour. For local train are around 4700 yen ( including all pass area for bus ride in Nikko area and some shrine admission, but not include Ropeway which you need to more additional 900 yen) It was so crowded during the weekend and holiday. The popular food is yoba ( tofu skin), there are many restaurants available for yoba soba noodles.

The way to Nikko national park, the water falls and the lake are excellent places to visit and are natural.

Nice place to go during winter but hard to find an Onsen if you go there around February.

Very nice Park with beautiful old Shrines to see and you can walk around in the National Park for hours. Enjoy the nature and quietness if you walk further up. A lot of people around the famous shrines but there is more to see.

A stunningly beautiful national park with many shrines, temples and lovingly scenic views. I was fortunate enough to enjoy a 1,000 Samurai Festival there and it was a wonderful experience to learn and see the historical aspects of the samurai lifestyle. The people, culture and their history is phenomenal. I highly recommend visiting and enjoying Nikko National Park for yourself.

I didn't get to enter, no time. Very well maintained. The colors really stand out. If you're going to visit the Nikko shrine compound area, better go early. The place is always packed with both locals and tourists. There's a tree outside Rennoji that they say has never bloomed in 400 (or was it 200) years. Tickets for the Toshogu shrine and museum complex does not cover the museum at the foot of the Rennoji house. If we had time, it would've been nice to stay for an hour or so, but the train and shinkansen ride back to Tokyo takes a while. The World Heritage Bus route goes around the entire Grand Shrine complex, down to the Nikko train station.

The treasure house is located opposite the main hall of the Rinnoji Temple. You need to pay an entrance fee. We decided to buy combined tickets, which include the main hall, the treasure house&garden, and the Taiyuin Mausoleum. It is a bit cheaper than buying them separately. Photography is not allowed inside the house. There are several antique artworks related to Buddhism and the Tokugawa era displayed inside. The portraits of all the shoguns in the Tokugawa family are exhibited there. It is nice to sit quietly and see those portraits, imagining their feelings and responsibilities as shoguns in their time. Don't miss the garden located behind the house. The garden is small but beautiful, with a pleasant landscape, good design, and it's not too crowded. It must be a wonderful place during autumn when color of leaves change..

The temple is located at the base of Mt. Nantai and the natural surroundings add to the serene atmosphere of the place. The main hall of the temple houses a large wooden statue of the Yakushi Nyorai, which is the temple's main object of worship. The temple also features several other buildings such as the Sanbutsudo Hall and the Futarasan Shrine, which are both beautiful and worth visiting. The architecture of the buildings is amazing and the intricate carvings and paintings on the walls and ceilings are truly breathtaking.

Has a national treasure sutra written 1000 years ago along with other cool stuff. There is a nice garden in the back.

There is a petit japanese garden just in front and its beatiful. The surroundings are also really enjoyable but in comparison the insides of this temple are not as interesting visually or as an expirience. When you go to the other temples first they offer you the ticket of this particular temple as a set and is not expensive, but except that you have some knollege about budism it probably won't be as interesting.

Love Rin-no-ji, loved Nikko. Everything in this whole Nikko complex it feels like it was froze in time and is permanently in the Edo era. The feeling of peace and serenity you get in Nikko is probably unique. Despite the crowds and there were plenty you can connect and be one there.

Tiny garden with a tiny admission fee. Worth it in all seasons in my opinion. You can walk the whole thing in under 10-12 minutes.

The best experience ever, you would need to climb a bit, but it's worth.

One of the best hike I have ever done in Japan. Amazing hike throughout spring-late summer times. From Nikko Station, take the bus to Akanuma Bus Stop (will take you around 50min), and the hiking trail starts right there. The destination is the small town of Yumoto on the other side of Yuno lake (where the bus also departures). The hike is well marked and preserved, and there are not many up and downs (easy level), except from few areas near the lake. There are some nice local shops to rest and taste local delicacy, like fish and rice balls. The destination of Yumoto is a natural hot springs onsen town. The water is natural and can smell sulfuric (you can actually smell it from the lake), but they say it has great minerals for your skin. This is the place where bloody battles took place during the japanese feudal era, and the locals say you can see a ghost during night time, so be alert! Ideally you want to stay over in a accomodation in Yumoto town, or at the camping site. Also make sure to bring water and snacks since there are not many shops. How to get there: Express Train from Asakusa Station (1hr+) - Bus from Nikko Station (50min) - get off at Akanuma Bus stop - Hike 2-3 hrs - Yumoto town (bus back to Nikko Station or stay over to explore the temples in Nikko).

good hike! you can choose the course but you should think of minimum 2 hours to enjoy the scene. The road is rather flat so there is no need to get too many equipments but still it is better to bring some water and snacks. Decent experience

Awesome well maintained hiking trails. Can catch glimpses of wildlife in all seasons. Cute little gurgling streams and large waterfalls en route.

It’s a nature park but you’re not allowed to bring your dog, even on a leash. The sunset with the fall leaves are pretty even just walking on the side of the road.

Very much worth to spend your time here. Just stand still and breath the fresh air. Arrived here just before the sunset. Magnificent view.

One of the most beautiful places ive ever been i dont even know where to start. There are plenty of different trails you can take, varying in difficulty, but the main boardwalk trail through the marsh really cant be beat. Its expensive to get here from nikko main station by bus but if you like nature its absolutly worth it. Serene and peaceful, the only sounds are birds and water and its a nice break from the busyness of tokyo and the other major cities. The air is fresh and clean and the other people on the trails are kind. Unfortunatly i had to leave at 5 to catch the last train back to tokyo, so if you like nature, allocate as much time as possible here u wont regret it.

This is probably one of the best walk I’ve ever had. Most of the walk is wooden boards so it makes the trail easier. View is awesome specially in autumn. I suggest to avoid weekends and public holidays.

Great trail, suitable for beginners. There is facilities along the way. The scenery is diverse from plain to mountain to lake to forest and a bit of snow. Really peaceful along the way.

This place would be incredible if you happened to be here during the right season. Admittedly the foliage was lacking any sort of colour (which I had expected) when I visited, but the hike itself was serene nevertheless. The boardwalk is well maintained and mostly flat, although the northern end of the trail has a few steps in various areas. Several points of interest along the way and constant views of the surrounding mountains. From my experience, starting at Ryuzu and finishing at Yudaki is the ideal route as the Yudaki end is more exciting. This also gives you the option to continue to Yumoto Spa, which I do recommend.

I had a wonderful time hiking in Senjogahara, a beautiful marshland in Nikko National Park. The trails were well-maintained and easy to follow, and the scenery was stunning. I saw many kinds of plants and birds, and enjoyed the views of the mountains,falls and the river. The hike was not too strenuous, and I could finish it in about three hours. There were also some rest houses and toilets along the way. The best part was that I could access the trails by public transportation, taking a bus from Tobu Nikko Station to Yumoto Onsen( bus station number 44 or 46). I highly recommend this hike to anyone who loves nature and wants to experience a different side of Nikko.

The hike to this point is easy. There are wooden floor stalled along the way most of the trail. Hiking from one fall to another is mostly flat. Lots of school kids and elders. Novice hikers can do it.

Senjogahara offers a breathtaking view, and the boardwalk enhances the overall experience. I enjoyed the scenic beauty of the sidewalks and even encountered deer. The place is truly amazing. My boyfriend and I trekked for around 7 hours along the mountain's long route. When I visited Nikko in September, the trees presented a lush, green view.

Perfect place for a relaxing autumn afternoon hike! The entire marshland was painted yellow. Would definitely love to visit again in other seasons to see different colors. The hike was in total close to 2 hours from Yudaki Falls to Ryuzu Falls. There are clear signages of directions. No steep ups and downs. Saw many elderly and yound kids doing this route too :)

Incredible walk along a steam through marsh and woodlands. Views to surrounding mountains. Highly recommended. The raised boardwalk has uneven steps and the woodland path has easy to walk small hill. Access via bus with stops along the way, tourist office at Nikko-Tobu station can provide a map and directions. Highly recommended

Was here in summer and it is one of the best nature spots in Japan. You have well marked and maintained paths and if you have more time I suggest you go all the way to the lake.

You need to learn about the history of the place before you go. If you go in directly and expect to be wowed, you’ll be disappointed. The space is large yes, but all rooms are essentially empty. So you’re left to wonder about the empty rooms and the specific architecture. The grounds are lovely and so is the garden. My suggestion: GET THE AUDIOGUIDE. Otherwise you’ll be lost and things aren’t too impressive right away.

If you like exploring a piece of history, this is perfect for you. The architecture and gardens are lovely. That a former emperor came here every summer, speaks to its charm and regal value. After walking around you can visit lovely cafes near by.

Went during the momiji period. Amazing colors, peaceful garden, very interesting history. There are many short explanations inside, and the staff can also gives you more details. They are truly passionate, and it enhances your experience.

A beautiful architecture with rich history, perfect for a rainy day in Nikko. The villa is quiet large and takes about 1.30h di tour (if you’re a slower, “observe-very-detail” person like me) the outside garden is stunning and the entire place brings a sense of peace and serenity. Entrance is quite cheap and lockers are available for free inside.

This imperial villa is perhaps the most underrated of Nikko’s attractions, which means that it lacks the crowds you will encounter at the city’s famous shrines and temples. What you find here is a beautiful early twentieth century villa and it’s surrounding gardens. The villa features some gorgeous paintings and beautiful views of the ponds and cherry trees. Entrance costs 500 yen.

It was a very huge villa for the Japanese emperor. And it has a beautful garden. You should visit here when you come to Nikko.

A unique experience to see the former summer home of the imperial family. It was also a great rainy day activity.

The Imperial Villa went on forever. Lots of rooms. They look out to courtyards and the beautiful landscaping. This time of year is great because of the changing season. Colors and all. It is worth the visit!

I have been here twice and it's one of my favourite places to visit in Nikko. Always peaceful and a fascinating villa - Mix of Edo/Meiji architecture and Japanese and western interiors. I love looking out at the garden as you go through the villa and then walking around the garden and looking back at the building. The garden has elements of a formal Japanese garden but I find it feels quite natural and peaceful. There is nearby parking and the cafe is wonderful (separate review).

This Villa and it's garden is amazing. If you wish to see original japanese buildings like a houndred years ago please pay this a visit. 106 rooms and 13 inner gardens speaks for itself. It's really worth a visit!

Very underrated place that is steeped in history. The displays were really informative and the whole place is very clean and well maintained. The gardens behind the villa are tranquil and nice to just sit in. You should come during spring or autumn to enjoy the lovely view of the flowers and the foliage.

This is a very interesting place about Japanese imperial family during World War II. There is a beautiful garden and nice (although not regał impressions) interior. Unfortunattely, there is no furniture and everyday items used by Emperor Hirohito and his family.

It's a nice place Interesting architecture of an old Japanese house which the emperor and his family were residing as a villa. The garden is small but beautiful. The ticket for entrance is expensive and many rooms are prohibited to enter and watch except for some. You can't go in with shoes and there's no need for advance ticket purchase. There are toilets inside the building and nursery rooms. There is also a free car park place.

During my visit to Nikko on year end, I have been to this Lake as well. One of the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. At that time it was frozen and was able to walk over it. Place was so silent that if you throw any stone you can hear clear sound of it and stone can go far away due to ice. Nearby there was a nice restaurant and enjoyed local food there. In summer, for hiking also this lake is good place. Must go!!!

A pretty secluded place but the lake can be very beautiful during the evening sunset. Can reach there by bus. A very calm and mesmerizing lake. The few boats there can add alot of flavor to the scene. A great place to take some nice pictures.

This lake is amazingly quiet and beautiful. You can walk around it. It takes around one hour. The path is next to the lake in the woods wich givesyoh great view while staying in the shade. I've been there twice and it wasn't crowded at all.

Silent and beautiful lake. Only 3km to walk around ashore, on the way you will encounter quite a big fall. Try to go steps down, monkeys appeared beside the fall this autumn!!
