One of the most beautiful gardens we have been in Japan. Worth the side trip if you are planning to also visit Hiroshima. Our allotted time was only 2hrs and we hade to rush to the exit just to get to our train. Plan more than 2hrs and enjoy the relaxing view and fresh air!

This garden is a must visit if you are in Takamatsu. We went during cherry blossom season which made the garden even more stunning!

It was a pleasant walk around the garden. Many cherry blossoms were not blooming yet as of today (22 Mar 2023), not sure if you are able to do a picnic here, but it would have been nice if you could. You can opt for a boat ride when you are inside, at an additional fee of about 600+ yen. Definitely a nice place to have some photos taken. 🤗

Even though some of the areas at this garden were under refurbishment, there were still many beautiful areas that were accessible. The ponds surrounded by perfectly trained trees were gorgeous. There are a few nice bridges as well. We really enjoyed feeding the fish and turtles with food that is available to buy inside the park.

The most magnificent garden I have ever seen. Ever step you take, every corner you turn, there lies the perfect composition. Point your camera in any direction and your picture is framed for you. One of the most beautiful places in the world.

On March 30, 2023, my wife and I visited the garden for the first time. When compared with other Japanese gardens, this one stood out as it could be interactive. We wanted to try the boat cruise but couldn’t afford to wait for hours for the available one. We ate udon at the most scenic spot instead.

A nice place to visit, east outdoor parking is spacious and kind staff would guide you to available lot (100 yen for every 25 mins). Admission fee is required and there are various pine trees and houses for rest and old times stories. Autumn and Spring should be best seasons though winter would be wonderful also. Sun protection is suggested if go at summer times.

It is not one of the Great Three Japanese gardens, but it should be. Wonderful garden impeccably maintained. Not as easily accessible as the other gardens but perhaps for it, since it is not as crowded.

When we got there it was temporarily closed for restoration. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t have a chance to look around the castel. However there is beautiful well-maintained garden. You will be amazed to see this traditional Japanese garden and old style temple.

When we got there it was temporarily closed for restoration. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t have a chance to look around the castel. However there is beautiful well-maintained garden. You will be amazed to see this traditional Japanese garden and old style temple.

Great place to visit, great hiking trails, temple and overlook of city and islands

I really loved the shrine and the observation deck. I'd strongly suggest taking the bus (there seems to be no hiking trail anyway). The last bus left at 5:30pm when I was there (couple of days ago). The shrine is very quiet, pretty and has little shops around the observation deck during the day with food, souvenirs and ice cream. You can also buy the lucky charms quite cheap at the shrine!

Climbing the mountain was quite difficult for me but I enjoyed every bit of the experience. It took me about 35 minutes to get to the top

This is the temple on top of the Yashima area mountain- or hill, if you prefer. It’s not the best temple in Japan by any measure, but there’s an aquarium and the view from the mountain is pretty good, you can see the Setonaikai and the downtown of Takamatsu quite well from this lookout.

I didn't realize how large it is--so many beautiful and interesting traditional houses and other buildings from all over Shikoku. It was wonderful.

A must visit, excellent descriptions in English, an educational look at how locals from 1600 to pre-industrial Japan lived in villages. Alll of the buildings are transplants and very quiet with a modern art museum up hill with excellent stories of the artist’s works and life overseas. Only 1000 yen entry. It doesn’t have the demonstrations of other cultural centers but cheaper and a good walk amongst some fragrant forests and flowers. I could hear movement of snakes but didn’t see any. Many butterflies in the summer. Just wonderful.

Shikoku Mura is an extraordinary place for lovers of architecture and landscape design. It's an open air museum with traditional buildings set amongst beautifully curated landscapes. It also houses the modern Shikoku Mura gallery designed by Tadao Ando - a modern art display space with amazing views and water features.

From JR Yashima station, walk north for 10 minutes to reach the place. Entrance Fee is 1000yen/ adult. There is a variety of folk houses - Yamashitas, Konos, Shimokis, fisherman's house, Master Kune. Surprisingly a Western house too. There are also industrial houses - sugar mill & soy sauce warehouse.Ater the visit, can have a coffee break at the coffee house.

Nice display of old houses. Possibilities to see from the inside are a bit limited. But overall nice place to visit. The open air art (bag in a bottle) and the Shikoku Mura gallery are the real highlights. Small but nice collection and a great view!

Some of the little videos had english subtitles but not all did There were many bathrooms in the museum. Be prepared to walk and climb a lot (it is on a hilly area), wear comfortable shoes!

This island houses a mountain that is rather high. YES RATHER HIGH. I warned you. Do NOT rent a bicycle; you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT ride it up to the top, you may be able to drag it up and then ride it on your way down, but the scenery is great so you might as well enjoy your walk if you are a tourist(and went through all the trouble to come here AND climb the mountain). Alternatively you could get a motorcycle if you live in Takamatsu and come here from time to time for a picnic. But for that the island is a bit small. This is the famous site of the Momotaro legend of Japan and on the top there is the cave of the Oni. Not exactly an attraction but might help you enjoy the island... in summer, especially. This was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip to Japan. If you love abstract 20thC sculpture and traditional Japanese buildings, this is a must see. You need to fill in a form on the website to visit. Don’t let that put you off. This is an utterly beautiful place which deserves to be better known. We took the bus from Takematsu.

Everything was absolutely perfect and beautiful all the way to the smallest details. This museum is one of the best on earth. We cannot wait to come back to Shikoku and come to see Naguchi's museum again and again. <3

The once in a life time experience for a Noguchi fan. I remembered falling in love with his sculptures in Noguchi New York. Here is like a Mecca to his work ethic. In Japan, you can take a look at how he worked behind the scene. He also has part of his ashes in one of the huge sculpture on top of the hill in the museum and the rest are in Noguchi New York. This is an only by reservation museum, so prior email reservation is a must. The tour guide lady speaks perfect English. Can take taxi from the nearby train station or a 15 minutes walk through the stones shops which was part of the whole experience for me. Don’t forget to visit the famous Udon shop nearby afterwards.

Busy port with lots of people waiting for the ferry to head to Naoshima. It’s a beautiful ferry ride out there and would love to stay in this area in the future for one night.

The pier allowed both passengers and cars to travel to the outlying islands. The schedule was more for passenger only vessels. Separate lines were allocated for different types of cars in the area. Cool little revitalised area, seems like a local hipster area but less pretentious than its Western counterparts. The Cafe itself is pretty cool and typically stocked with books and niknacks. The coffee is decent, not like the amazing places in bigger cities but alright. For those who like sweet drinks, cakes and other sweets it's good. Also the stew and salad we had were really good. The downside is we had to wait about 30 mins each time even on a Monday afternoon.

I like the Kitahama Alley, but it is important to come at a time when it is a bit more active. There are some places to eat and drink. The atmosphere is very nice in the summer evenings, and the views of the water are really great. If you are a regular visitor to Shikoku, come by again and see how it is growing and developing!

Not interesting. Just few shops with alternative items and just a few restaurants. Not worthwhile to undertake the walking from the Harbour or railway station.

15 mins walk from the train station, quiet in weekdays, only spent 10mins to explore there, not impressed.
