A must see in Punta Arenas, beautiful graves with stunning Mausoleum. We spent almost 2 hours there.

Very nice cemetery, looks of history of the settlers of Puenta arena. Tickets are not required, entry was free.

A tip for our foreigner friends: don't bother. They charge nearly 5000 pesos for entry, and both my partner and I felt it really isn't worth the price. If you're planning to go to Santiago, the Cementerio General there is much (and we mean MUCH) more beautiful and it's free! Buy a good meal with the money instead.

This cemetery is well maintained and it doesn't look like cemetery at first glance, more like gardens. There was no fee at all when I went here.

The cemetery is a popular tourist spot in Punta Arenas. There is a small admission fee to visit, guess that’s why it is well maintained. Lots of large trimmed trees lining beautifully separating the mausoleum. The area was donated by Sara Braun and her grave can also be found in there

THIS IS A NOTICE FOR TOURISTS: The cemetery is charging $5,000 chilean pesos for tourist entrance (only in the principal entrance). That is not supposed to happen since it is a PUBLIC area, do NOT pay. This is advice from a local resident. It is not legal to charge for entrance, if you are not permitted to enter from the principal gate, there are other entrances on the sides of the cemetery which are not guarded

Good for a quick wander around. Some interesting tombs but nothing very special. A bit too modern in most areas to be of interest.

Didn't know what to expect but every one recommended it. Only thing I'm bummed about is wishing I had more time as I did this in an hour before I had to leave...bad decision as I didn't get through even half of it. Beautiful place, rich history, and you could kill a half day here with ease.

This is a very nice maritime museum in Punto Arenas. We had a very educational experience as we toured the boats that were there. A nice piece of history, well kept!

A must visit! I have always wonder the feeling of being side an old school ship... my god this is one locatuon that will take you back. You can walk on the ship and has access to everything inside. You become a crew member of the ship. They have so much information and so much to see. They charged around 6 dollars to get in. It's worth it!

The Punta Arias port provides access to several museums documenting the Spanish conquests. Some museums contain artifacts, scribes accounts of the peoples and customs and depictions of the indigenous peoples including the very large Patagonians whose intimidating size and athletic abilities led to the Spanish annihilating this magnificent culture. This museum is a testament to the sailors and navigators who risked life and limb to traverse the Atlantic in these tine ships laden with mercenaries seeking wealth and the Kings favor. This museum is interesting and provides a history of Magellan's influence in this region, beautiful waters and kind people.

I really enjoyed my visit to this tourist attraction. It is a reproduction of Ferdinand Magellan's flagship, the Victoria. The ship sits on the shore of the Strait of Magellen at the far eastern end of Punta Arenas. The site is located about seven km from the downtown port facility. Visitors can freely climb about the upper decks and climb down steps into the very belly of the galleon. There is a very, very small gift shop and exhibit in the adjacent building at the foot of the steps.

A good space to see a real size ship replica. It needa more work inside the ships. For example more info regarding the internal spaces, a sumarise intro in each space. A real guide will be helpful too.

The replicas of these ships are really cool. They seem pretty accurate but I really do not know. They are in some need of repair and information regarding life on the ship is lacking. That would be nice. This is not a tour you just walk around the ships. There is good information re Magellan, his route and all his troubles. There is interesting info on the Beagle too. The best way to get there is Uber. It is maybe 6 km out of town.

Super low key and affordable museum! You get to go inside 4 of the boat replicas and see how they work/operate. Would be slightly improved with a bit more information on the boats but otherwise a fun little excursion while in Punta Arenas!

Fascinating and enlightening experience. You can enter the two ships here and gain an appreciation for what early explorers of this continent endured on their journey. The ships are very small in comparison to the distance they traveled and the weather encountered en route.

Pretty impressive! We especially liked that you could visit literally every part of the ships. Entry fee was 5000CLP.

This is totally awesome, especially for people who are into history. To imagine that 500 years ago, people sailed the seas in those ships… To see this amazing 1:1 replica of the one ship of Magellan’s expedition that actually went around the entire globe is really worth a visit. Very impressive and very recommendable !!

Saw replicas of Magellan's ship. The Beagle(Darwin's ship), and a small ship that brought original monks to the area.

It was an unique museum experience, because you get to see the inside of three historical ship. For the price (5,000 peso), it was a worthwhile visit while we were in Punta Arenas looking for things to do. Though, I would not necessarily plan my day around it if you are short on time. We rented bicycles from a local business to come here. There was a place to park them, should you choose to do the same.

A really nice experience visiting three replicas of old ships, two of them with great history. It is definitely worthwhile a visit so as to appreciate how difficult it was to explore the seas centuries ago.

This is a simple monument, after we protested a family with five brats who kept climbing the sheep and the horse toally disregarding us who wanted to take pictures, they finally stepped aside and we were able to tale our picrures

All crafted in bronze, not the most impressive thing to see, but reflects with good point the lifestyle of the shepherd.

A cute little park, with plenty of benches to sit and enjoy a few moments in this tranquil town at the end of South America.

Nice plaza. It has a statue to Magellan in the center and, if you kiss the statue (see my photo) you will return to Punta Arenas. There are nice souvenir stands. I recommend going to the Sara Braun house/ museum and the adjoining hotel that was part of the house. We also went to a great store half a block up from the plaza on Presidente Roca street. We bought leather belts and other souvenirs.

This is a beautiful, clean and shaded park in the center of Punta Arenas. It has benches for visitors to rest and enjoy the view. It is the best part of this clean and wonderful town.

After tour of city high spot, Silesian museum and Magellan and Beagle replicas, we spotted in town Square where we found some wool accessories to give add gifts and saw the Magellan monument. Great time.

The square is peaceful , have a lot history behind the wall , is a tourist place where you can take a rest or just take a break and read the newspaper El magallanico .

Lovely place. You can sit and watch Magellan's statue with a cold Chilean beer in your hand.

A beautiful mini palace in the centre of Punta Arenas. Enjoyed room decor, ceilings, paintings and other objects of art. We came 30.mibs before closing, were kindly greeted by a man, paid 2000 Chilean pesos, There is also an excellent bar and restaurant Taverna in a basement of the building with its own entrance. Both worth visiting.

Certainly worth the $6 entry fee, we enjoyed the bougie decor of this museum and the sweet man who minds the place. Think beautiful architecture, stunning crown moldings and gorgeous frames that line the walls, this old private members club has an interesting history and no shortage of grand decor.

This is a small museum in the Sara Braun Palace, later used a club. The interior design indeed looks like an oldschool club. When I arrived, the front door was locked, and visitors had to knock or ring the doorbell to enter. As one past reviewer noted yet others disagreed, the building is indeed shared with a hotel, which has its own entrance, so the museum is very small and covers only a few rooms. However, for the farely low price, 2000 pesos or 3 USD (end of 2021 prices), it's a fair price for an opportunity to see the interior of the building. It's OK, but don't expect too much. 15 minutes is more than enough for the visit. I'm not sure if this is done regularly, but I was given access to another, more modernly looking section, that's shared with the hotel and had a collection of paintings telling the story of Shackleton's 1914 expedition.

Limited hours and cash only. More expensive if you pay in USD vs. the local currency. You'd think they would be more flexible with their operating hours when cruise ships come into town and make it easier to pay.

The cost/benefit ratio is great, 5*. There is not much to see in Punta Arenas and this place is worth your time and 2000 CLP. In Europe, you would not care, but here... 🤷🏿‍♀️

What could have been a great and historical hotel mange’s to thrive more from its arrogance and and underinvestment in service and engagement. The hotel inside showcases a great potential of historic structure which only through poor taste and dated redecorating manages to portray what could have been a grand hotel. The reality is a far miss. The front desc could not be beaten in its arrogance and a bell boy is no where to be found and the effort of service is close to zero. Unfortunately another one of those properties with lots of potential but no engagement. As they say it takes generations to build a reputation but only seconds to destroy it.

Nice statue of Hernando De Magallanes and nice garden around it with trees covered with yellow flowers, at least in November when I was there. This statue and garden are the heart of Punta Arenas. Some say you have to kiss someone in front of the statue if you want to come back to Punta Arenas. OR maybe it was something else like touching a toe or even some other statue, well better be safe than sorry. Kiss and touch toe!

A very odd collection of taxidermy, religious artefacts, some original indigenous items collected by the missionaries, polar exploration and an exhibition on fossil fuel extraction. For me it was celebrating activities of human and natural exploitation that are now considered rather unsavoury but it's a social history that we need to be aware of.

Very interesting place to visit. I stopped here on a tour and found it clean and well presented.

Highly recommend! Although the museum might not be the most modern one in the city, it is defintely very interesting and exhibits many different artifacts and information about local history, flora and fauna and geology. I was amazed by the number of animals that are presented and described in the museum. I also quite enjoyed the newly added part about fossils, Drilling and hydroenergy. The staff is very friendly and the prices are decent.

This museum is certainly 'good' - some interesting exhibits, generally well-curated and worth a visit. However, I found the lack of criticality of certain captions - particularly those regarding the role of religious leaders, the plight of indigenous peoples and the role of fossil fuel companies - to be highly problematic. Fortunately, the image of the last member of the Yagan tribe speaks volumes without any proper analysis of how this came about. To take one example, a particular religious leader who died during World War I 'gave his life for the welfare and salvation of the native peoples of Patagonia'. Did the indigenous people need 'saving'? If so, from what? Can the annihilation of a people and their culture be described as 'welfare'? Similarly, a different Catholic leader is described as 'loving' certain groups as his 'children'. The uncomfortable patronising tone of this kind of comment sounds even more uncomfortable when one reflects on the abuse of so many people in all parts of the world at the hands of some, though not all, Catholic leaders and the systematic covering up of these actions. Finally, one floor, probably sponsored, does well document the contributions of fossil fuel companies to this region; however, there is extraordinarily little attention given to the environmental consequences of these activities. The museum is rather cramped. If new premises are secured, then it would be useful to provide places for visitors to rest other than a few chairs just inside the museum entrance. The Antarctic section of the museum is very good, but could usefully be expanded.

Brilliant experience - a must do in Punta Arenas! The parts about Antarctic Exploration in particular were a highlight. If they could perhaps change the section on petroleum exploration to something a bit more relevant to 2020 it might be beneficial. Still a wonderful experience and worth the entrance fee.

I stayed at Dreams for 32 days in a row. Loved some parts and I did not like other things. The View is just amazing, when I needed to recharge my physical and mental batteries I just sat by the window and I got energy from the ocean and the view. Don't get me wrong, I ate breakfast every morning and it was very good. I asked for Sunny side up special made for me most mornings. The rooms are great, large and have both bathtubs and separate shower. Only bad thing was it did not have any Coffee maker or battle. The gym was nice with city view however I never used the indoor swimming pool or the spa erea. Checked it out once and it looked good. I never went to the Casino. The staff was amazing and specially Sebastian who helped us often during our stay. I would definitely stay here again if I ever come back to Punta Arenas.

Horrible experience. We reported there was no hot water at 6pm. Then again at 6:30, then at 7, then at 7:30. Each time they told us someone would be up to help. Finally after the 4th trip, I told them I would wait at the front desk until someone came up. Finally an employee showed up, told us he'd be right back. Never came back. 2 hours later, we go back to the front desk to only be told it's going to take at least 2 hours for a fix. We woke up with hot water finally. In addition to the hot water issue, the air conditioning worked but barely blew any air. We had to open the windows but there was so much noise outside we had the weigh being hot inside the room or not falling asleep due to the noise. We also heard from other folks to not eat at the hotel - which we did not. Lastly, while there is a tv, there's no stations. You have to link your phone up to the YouTube app.

Great location within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Check in was smooth, easy, and pleasant. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and clean. The bathroom was big and stocked with toiletries. The shower had multi jets with great water pressure. Water facing room has a great view and the glass generates a lot of heat with the morning sun. The TV wasn’t working correctly but we never contacted the front desk to address. Breakfast had allot of options but was rather bland taste wise. Coffee was good. Parking is available and validated. Great experience.

The most expensive and worst hotel in Punta Arenas! We spent 3 nights in this hotel during our 5 weeks holiday in Chili and Antarctica. There is just one conclusion: it is really really bad !!! Don't book this hotel and please take a local hostal for half the price and you will get a perfect service with a smile. Some examples: First night we got a room on the front side of the hotel. There was no airco in the room, whilst they state this on their website, and the temperature in our room was 27 degrees Celsius and increasing.... Opening the window did not help at all, as it automatically closes due to the bad system. We discussed this with the staff, but there was no cooler room available. In the morning we had a cold shower….. Besides, bad /no WiFi connection in our room. The above mentioned was the experience of multiple travellers in our group. Checking in a group of 54 people was also something the hotel was absolutely not prepared for: just 1 to 2 persons helping and also this took up to more than 30+ minutes. We indicated that we would be back in their hotel, after our Antarctica tour, as part of that tour, and after multiple reminders we finally got the confirmation that we will get a room on the sea side with a proper working arco. We got indeed the sea side room (thanx!), but also in this room the airco was not properly working... again a night in 23 degrees Celsius. Up to the breakfast buffer. First there was no space available, so waiting till somebody leaves the room….. After a little while a table was available and we were standing in queue for about 30 !!! minutes to choose from the breakfast buffet. No support was given to the just 2 persons working there. Poor them! Waiter James is the hero. Big thanks to him!!! He speaks very well English, nobody else does, and knows what customer service is. We reserved the swimming pool. No bath robes or slippers in our room. It might be strange, but for US$ 200+ per night, we had expected this…… At the swimming pool they told us, we need to wear a cap, which was mentioned nowhere. So, if we would like to swim, we need to buy 2 caps.... also not included in the room price. Just for a reference: I travel around the world for our 30 years, so I have some experiences, but I have never experienced such a bad service for such a high price. Before I forget… they also have a casino…. without staff to play at the tables….. Support the locals and book at a hostal. We changed to a hostal and that was just amazingly good!

This place is pathetic especially trying to masquerade as a 4 star hotel. Rooms were nice but overwhelming hot! 82 degrees and the AC doesn't work!. The room keys were one working try out of 100 swipes. Elevator is slow. At 200+ night this needs to be fixed. Casino is joke as well very small looked to only be slots. Restaurant is okay but not for 4 star hotel at best I'd say 2.5 stars. Whoever gave this a 4 star review had to have been paid! I'd recommend an air bnb for $50 over this joke of a hotel. Shower is fancy but you have to let it run for 10 minutes before it gets hot Staff is helpful and kind but that doesn't overcome the terrible heat

Please remove as a site from Google as this is no longer valid. The penguins do not hang out here as apparently they relocated due to coal mining ships and big boat traffic in the area. Unfortunately, there is still a big advertisement board on the main highway in Punta Arenas for Seno Otway.

I tried to go here this morning, but the gate leading down that road was closed at 9:00am, with a sign to the right saying private property. Not sure if they open later, or if it’s just not accessible anymore. (The king penguins over on Isla Tierra Del Fuego were good though)

Right now it's closed and it should be closed for 3 or 10 years totaly (it is hard to find correct information about that). But you have to ride like 20 kms on gravel road to find this out. Not cool,man... Like really...is it so difficult to change the sign on the beggining of the road?! Eventhough I like to drive on gravel roads, I like penquins more..

My favorite viewpoint in Punta Arenas. Other places like in the wilderness higher up in the mountains has greater and better view, however more difficult to get there. This one is maximum view for minimum effort. Do not forget to check out all the signs pointing to many cities or countries around the world few steps away from here. If you only have one day this will be on your ToDo list.

Wonderful place to get a view of the city for only a minimal amount of effort walking up the hill. The walk through the neighborhood felt really safe as well. There are some mosaic artworks on the way down as well as some amazing lupine.

This area is an easy uphill walk from downtown. The view is amazing! 👏 Definitely worth a visit to see the city, ocean and sky at once!

There is nothing really except the view of the town. And the view is not that beautiful, still I will visit the Cerro because also there is not much to do in the town.

IT is a great place to see the city. The view towards the Strait of Magellan (Southand East) is superb. If you follow the Señoret street North (if you are facing the view, North is going left) you get to another lookout (mirador de los soñadores) that has a North view.

Nice viewpoint of Punta Arenas, definitely worth a visit. Easy walk down to town from viewpoint or from town up to viewpoint, 10 minutes from Plaza de Armas.

Muy bien mirador. Nice concrete bench across the lower platform, able to drink wine and spend some of the afternoon sitting in the sunshine. Much of the bus crowd Will not bother to walk down the stairs from the Street, so it is much More chill at the lower bit.

This is is a free museum with limited hours so check ahead before you visit. All the signage and descriptions are in Spanish. Small backpacks are allowed but you need to wear them on your front. Shoe covers are provided to protect the floors.

They only give you a couple of minutes to "visit" the museum, but don't tell you beforehand (maybe because nobody working at this touristic place knows English), so you're basically thrown out without seeing anything. Seems though that there is no critical mentioning of the genocide of the indiginous people.

Housed in the Braun-Menendez mansion dated back to 1969 after the Braun descendants donated the property. It has many objects and furniture from the Meagallanes' era.

Pretty nice and a large exhibit for a free museum. Definitely worth a look while in town! Great displays on period furniture and rooms.

Very friendly staff. The exhibits were all in Spanish but they hand out a booklet in English for you at the entrance that explains what each room has. Good way to spend an hour at most.

Museum itself is not bad. But There is no mention of the genocide of the indigenous people supported by these colonialists and their followers. Elsewhere it is clearly explained.

It’s just awesome to see so many Magellan penguins from up close! You are only allowed to spend 1 hour on the island which flies by! The reason of the 4-stars is the high price and the unfriendly staff on the island. Photographers please note that tripods are not allowed, also lying on your stomach for a more stable position with your telelens is not allowed.

Love it for the loads of penguins. Quite wind-swept but fascinating and worth the ride.

A DEFUNCT LIGHTHOUSE, ominous even on a sunny day, sits on the island’s high point and reminds visitors to what is a Chilean national monument that the resident penguins are the VIPs. Guests, like us, get timed visits, instructions to keep to the roped-off pathways and plenty of move-along guidance from staff. There’re also relentless winds and limits on camera tripods. But what guests, often arriving by the hundreds in gang boats, do get are thousands of flightless penguins and other birds fabulously indifferent to human presence. They waddle over rocks for fishing, go about nurturing their young, and fight off predatory skua birds looking to steal the chicks. Quite memorable. (Inero 2023)
