This is the real anime paradise, floors and hallways full of endless merchandise and amazement. I think it has a little something for everyone, with great food all around and a super cool arcade that wasn't over crowded. The icing on the cake for me, was feeling like I knew the layout before I had ever been there. I played the Digimon Cyber sleuth game and it's largely based in Nakano and the level of details that match up are mind blowing. No matter how many hours I spent it just kept me in a state of wonder.

It was a fun place to visit, lots of shops to visit which were all very tourist friendly to us. We bought a hand made bag from an old Japanese lady who drew a cat on it. There is some gold to find here but it's mostly a little overpriced anime products and food. It's very close to the train station and they have public toilets available.

Wow! It’s a quiet place with amazing little discoveries.. and would you believe a mini Uniqlo! We were looking for manga and we found so many at Nakano Broadway. An old style shopping area and mall with a really cool vibe! I found Takashipom - Takashi Murakami’s art and there is teh cafe in the 2nd floor. Definitely go visit with really great food choices like the Curry and Naan and Chateraise with daifukus and Mont Blancs and so much to choose from. Type into Google maps and you will get some great choices on trains and platforms. I was so impressed and it even tells you which carriage to get on for the quickest change over. Google maps was fantastic in helping me discover little hidden gems in Tokyo ❤️

I don’t consider myself to be an otaku but I do have an interest in the uniquely Japanese subculture of manga and anime. Akihabara is the center of otaku culture and I have been there many times. I recently learned that there are also many otaku shops in Nakano Broadway, a shopping area close to the train station. I decided to go check it out since I was in the area. There were many stores located on three floors of an older building. I learned that this was one of the first modern shopping malls in Japan and opened in 1966. After more than half a century, there are definitely some signs of decay. Nevertheless, I was happy to explore the mall and was excited to find some vintage Ultraman items. By the way, Ultraman made his debut in 1966 too. “Shuwatchi”!

I had heard about Nakano Broadway as being an alternative otaku mecca in Tokyo versus the more famous district of Akihabara but hadn't had a chance to visit on previous trips to Japan. This time I made it a point to check it out and it was certainly worth the trip and I would highly recommend it to any fellow otaku but with some caveats. First off, Nakano Broadway is primarily a great place to shop for pre-owned merch rather than new stuff. It's an older commercial center with the bulk of the anime and pop culture-themed shopping being made up of the 27 different Mandarake shops scattered all over the second to fourth floors of the mall. Yes, that's right TWENTY-SEVEN, but each shop specializes in a particular category of pre-owned goods ranging from manga to anime figures to diecast cars to kaiju/tokosatsu goods to cosplay items and so on. Mandarake is one of Japan's biggest pre-owned retailers and Nakano Broadway houses their headquarters so you'll find an ample selection of items but that also means a lot of searching through often tightly-packed stores to find any items you're interested in. Scattered amongst the Mandarake shops are various smaller stores selling a mix of new and used items. The new stuff that's for sale tends to be goods from older series and not merchandise from the latest and greatest shows or games – for that you'll want to stick to Akihabara where there's a far greater selection of new release goods. Another caveat is that Nakano Broadway can feel like an absolute maze with a scattershot arrangement of stores and corridors going every which way so allot plenty of time to browse if you're here for otaku goods shopping. The basement level is mainly groceries and the first floor is mainly clothing and everyday items so head straight to the second, third, and fourth floors if you're only interested in pop culture stuff. Yes, Akihabara is far more confusing due to its sheer size, especially to the newbie, but Nakano Broadway can still be pretty maddening considering it's just one building and especially given the normal Japanese propensity for orderliness. If you have the time and can put up with Nakano's eccentricities it can be very rewarding though. After the first few stores seemed to be yielding squat on my visit I did find a new figure for a favorite character from a not-so-recent but still popular anime series for a rock bottom price, several unique die-cast cars, and a promotional Nissan GT-R DVD I'd never seen before for cheap. Other items also tempted me but luggage space considerations helped save my wallet from more suffering. Go into Nakano Broadway with patience and a treasure hunting mentality and you'll be rewarded.

A lot of Madrake shops as well as other places with old-school and retro manga, figurines, games, and much more. There is also a place with original drawings from some old animes that I don't know. The place just has a cool vibe, and remember to stop by the "flower cafe" as it has a very cool interior! Sure some shops are closed down, but still a colorful place to visit 😊

Must-visit place for Anime, Manga, Toys, Video games and Watch collectors. All these under one roof. It was fun browsing the stores, especially if you are searching for a past gem. The Jack Road and Betty shops have a wide variety of used watches, both vintage and recent models. Although you must do your due diligence as the are not always the best (depending where you are from). Easier to navigate/find items vs. Akihabara, where sometimes you really need to dig deep to find the real gems.

Amazing to visit. This place os crazy. Full of little shops with lots of otaku and geeky stuff. The quality of the mall is really lacking, narrow and long corridors, short heights. But rather than taking from the experience it actually brings it to another bizarre level. Worth visiting for fun.

Little Akihabara. it’s the perfect place for any otaku. you will find anything you like, figurines, plushies, keychains, gachas, manga etc. it’s a must visit for all anime fans! I would definitely go back again. 🤩🤩🤩

This place is a gem. Awesome selection of unique and interesting shops. Some really great vintage watch shops, but they have all kinds of stuff here.

Basically the Mandarake headquarters as more than half of the stores seem to be owned by Mandarake. Each store has its own theme. One was for scale train models, other for vintage toys, another for BL manga another for Ero Manga... Overall an amazing place to find figures, toys and collectables.

This place is awesome. Its an old complex and building, a bit dated, but still very clean. Went to Nakano primarily to look for great deals on watches. They have it all! From old vintage time pieces, japanese watches, to swiss luxury watches that costs an arm and a leg! This place has it all too! Spent almost the whole day here just looking at watches and comparing prices from one store to the next. There’s honestly nothing quite like it. I have not encountered a similar place like Nakano in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan or South Korea where watch shops - selling brand new and pre-owned pieces, are just scattered all over an entire floor! The place has an abundance of restaurants and food options too! From snacks to great meals. They even have some pet shops! Some negatives: Nakano is quite far from the usual tourist spots. Although, the place is easily accessible via train. One you reach Nakano Station, take the North Exit and you will see Nakano Broadway. You cant miss it. Another negative is the lack of trash cans/bins. The place is also a bit old and dated, but its part of the appeal.

Loved Nakano Broadway! Only a short ride on the Chuo-Sobu line from Shinjuku Station. Multiple shops here to take all of your money! Everything from Ice Cream to Toys! I highly recommend taking a trip out this way if you are staying in lower Tokyo area. Small alleys with supermarket and great food too. Very old school vibes in this area.

Get down at Nakano station and take the North exit. You can't miss it. Once outside directly in front of you, there would be a lane with shops on either side. Walk around 100 mts, and you would be in front of the Nakano Broadway entrance. The shopping center or mall, depending upon how you like to classify it, is a building of 3 floors, run down and dilapidated but with some amazing shops! If you are into watches or anime or manga, then this is the destination for you. I'm a watch collector, so Nakano Broadway is on my itinerary whenever I visit Tokyo. Most of the watch shops are located on the 3rd floor, which is accessible via an escalator right when you enter the place - why waste time! There are shops where you could find used, antique and contemporary luxury watches and then some more..... quality is well graded, and prices are reasonable. So if you are lusting after the vintage rolex coke, then this is the place which you need to visit 😉

A neighbourhoodly place with many collectible and second hand shops for watches, manga and the second hand kimono shop in the basement. There are also some grocery shops in the basement with great seafood and veggie deals. Was a joy to walk around and window shop.

Paradise for expensive watch shopping. The number of specialised shops is huge and increasing. The price level is competitive mostly (all are checking their neighbours prices and keeping same level) but sometimes you can find sale opportunities or hidden treasures according to your taste.

I remained surprised to find such a place in Nakano: when I first booked my accommodation here I thought it was a plain area, instead I found this beautiful street full of shops, restaurants and street food. Also, the street is attached to Nakano Broadway (another small Mall), the area is surrounded by tons of small restaurants and it is just 1m walk from the North entrance/exit of Nakano Station. I loved every single corner of it, from the location to the offer! A lot of shops offer Tax free and in quite the majority of the shops I visited there was somebody able to speak a bit of English. Good food, good prices and great atmosphere! Rather you live or are staying in Nakano or not, it is worth a visit!

It's always fun visiting Nakano Sun Mall. Lots of shops and restaurants. It feels/ looks like festival all the time you visit this place .

Apart from being a standard Shotengai with wide choices of F&B, sports shoes and supermarket (Seiyu). It has some retail shops for luxury goods like Rolex watches.

Me and my wife visited in this beautiful place last weekend. It has lots of old sculpture which is very rare to see in a open park in Tokyo. Moreover there are lots of old style houses in this area which brings us a thought that how beautiful and simple life was in Tokyo... It's interesting if you know the history and meaning behind the various pavilions, but even without that knowledge it is an interesting and quiet park. Not busy and a bit of an undiscovered gem.

Quite a large and impressive park, but no support for English that I noticed. Most of the philosophers featured were Chinese or Japanese, but there were a few references to Western philosophers. Layout is kind of confusing, but I think that's supposed to keep you thinking as you wander around. Lots of birds and at least one interesting cat. I guess it deserves a high four stars for being thematic.

Ideal location in my opinion. It's right across the street from Nakano train station. But you don't hear the trains or traffic at all. Nokano itself has lots to see and do. Nice, interesting shops. Even better, Nakano borders Koenji - one of our favorite areas. Also, Shinjuku is only 2-3 stops away. The hotel itself is a little odd in a couple ways. It is the top 4 floors of a 20-story tower and requires two elevators to get to your room. Not a big deal. Just pointing out that the building isn't a dedicated hotel. The rooms themselves are the size we expect in Tokyo. But they're efficient and have good amenities like coffee/tea and a hot water pot, hair dryer, toiletries, robes, etc. Clean and well maintained room. Very efficient and helpful staff. I'd say it was an excellent value for the price. Our room was about $128/night including tax.

Great location This hotel is across the road from Nakano station. The best entrance is on the right side when facing the hotel. If you go in the main entrance, the lifts are at the back of the building to the left of the big flight of stairs. Rooms are good size, very comfortable beds, breakfast standard Japanese, western mix. Easy to buy reasonably priced food just across the road along the arcade, or good old 7/11.

Very nice! Room was clean, location was excellent, staff incredibly friendly. And a great deal for the price. Enjoy this landmark while you can - I believe it is slated to be demolished soon. Many famous concerts were held in the concert hall under the hotel, and often when there is a rock album titled "Live in Japan" or "The Tokyo Tapes" it was performed here.

Visited a Japanese restaurant on 20th floor during lunchtime. Very nice, divided into western food left side and Japanese food right side, delicious and by far not as crowded as the area north of Nakano station during lunch time. Worth also mentioning the large parking place in an otherwise very crowded area.

Located really near to the station, you just have to cross the stress after you exit the station. You will be able to spot it really quickly once you exit the station. There are many places to shop and eat around the area with some eateries opening till quite late. The hotel room itself might be a little small (it might just be because Japanese hotel rooms are quite small in general) but it's still really nice. The room walls are quite thick as well. Staffs are also able to understand and speak basic English, which is really useful since I can't really speak Japanese that well. I would highly recommend this place if you are thinking of attending a concert there at the Sun Plaza as well, as the concert hall is literally just below it. That way you don't have to travel down to the hotel early in the morning to queue for your concert. As the Japanese usually start queuing for them quite early in the morning with a queue already forming around 11am. You would also not have to worry about your concert ending late and missing the last train back which is really quite nice.

I can only rate the concert hall but it's a good one. Not so sophisticated and a bit old, but the front side sections of seats are angled to the stage - something you don't often see.

The idea of having a memorial dedicated to an awesome dog is fantastic. The statute in itself is quite small (about 2.5 meters tall) so it's very easy to overlook. That said, there are plenty of signs inside Shibuya station to point you to the statute and it makes a good meeting point. There's no light around the statute (as you can see from the photo taken around 9pm in summer) and often there are many people smoking or just hanging out in the area. So probably not the best meeting spot but still a pretty good landmark overall.

Hachiko Gate, an exit that is usually swarmed with visitors whenever they visit Shibuya, likewise, I found myself amongst the rest, waiting patiently for my turn to keep Hachiko in my album too. One of the locals I bumped into shared that regardless weekdays, Hachiko Gate remain one of the top places to visit among Shibuya Sky. So, wait not, pop by and say hello to Hachiko!

This was a highlight of my trip. There was probably a 50% line for folks waiting to take a photo with the statue so definitely be prepared to wait for that because it is extremely famous. The story goes that even after his owner died the dog continued to wait at the train station for his owner to return which symbolizes loyalty and love. I gave him a kiss :-)

Great place to commemorate Hachiko. A lot of people are usually here taking pictures you will not get a good shot. Come here early in the morning or 3pm in the afternoon few people are queuing during that time.

Located outside the Shibuya Crossing station. Busy area on a Saturday, but definitely a landmark easy enough to stop by if you’re in the area. There’s a good movie based on a true story to go along with this visit especially for families and kids…Hachi: A Dog’s Tale.

Cool story of a loyal dog at such a wonderful place in Shibuya. The statue itself is about 2.5m tall and located at the busiest place in Shibuya, so you won't missed it. Everyone will want to take a picture of it. So please be quick and be prepared to wait awhile for your turn.

Come if you don't mind waiting in a long queue to take a picture of Hachikō. I visited during lunch hour and there was already an extremely long queue snaking all around the entire path. I didn't bother queuing as I was alone, but I can imagine it would make for a good photo-op if you were with someone else. The statue is exactly what you would see online on travel websites, and essentially the poor dog's paws have been rubbed so much that the colour was coming off (see pictures for details). If you are taking pictures with it, be mindful to just take a few quick ones so as to allow other people behind you to take too! Or if you're like me, you could just stand at the side (not in the queue) and sneak a shot of the status, albeit with a random person posing next to it.

It’s a story we learned about long before planning our trip so when we were at the station we had to go see it. I don’t know hope we got so lucky that there were no other people there but it was easy to visit. It would be nice if there was a bigger memorial plaque explaining the significance.

Every dog deserves 5 stars! Area and statue was well-kept and everyone made a line to take a picture. *Good part is the line was made in one direction facing the front of the statue. So I went off towards the side to take a picture. Although I could be right next to the statue, didn't want to wait in line so I took pics everytime someone from the line finished from 20 feet away to the sides of the lines.

If you don't know the story of the dog named "Hachiko", check out Richard Gere's "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" The status is located right out side of Shibuya JR train station entrance next to the famous scramble crossing, and it is always swarming with people.

This is not a judgment on the statue. The area is way too busy. Hundreds of people pushing and shoving to see the dog statue and take their selfies with it. If you want to see it, I'd recommend a less busy time, if there is one for this location.

Easiest meeting point for Shibuya. It’s a Dog statue. Less than a minute walk from JR Hachiko exit & Tokyo Metro A8 exit.

Itself is located at busy area, you saw it when you walked by. People take picture with the statue. The best thing we had as we met a man who is volunteer to taking pictures for visitors. He is very professional and taking pictures good and quick!

Nothing much to say… it’s a small statue of a dog where foreigners where lining up to take photos of it. Is this why some people come to Japan? I think it’s very overrated… no need to see. But if you want to, take the JR exit of the Shibuya station. It’s directly there.

Shibuya Station Exit No.8... The Hachiko Gate, named after an Akita dog famed for its loyalty to its master, opens onto Hachiko Square on the northwest side of the station. The statue of Hachiko here is one of the most popular meeting spots in Japan.

There’s nothing special other that the story behind it. People were handling the dog’s legs as it’s very shiny! The statue nearby is more interesting !

If you know the story and watched the movie, and cried over and over... then it's the memorial you want to visit and have a picture with it. I also went to visit the cemetery where the owner is bared and Hachiko's ashes (?) Or little memorial. Loved the story and heartbroken 💔 thinking how painful could have been for the dog. It's also next to shibuya crossing, so easy to find it. Only problem is the queue of people trying to get a picture

To see Hatchiko was one of my goals in Japan. This dog represents loyalty and so much love from our pets that I wanted to have a picture with that statue. His story is very touching. We humans don’t deserve pets 🥹 There was a longer line to wait, around 10-15 min waiting time. Hatchiko was decorated and costumed which I really found sweet by the tokio government to do so, you can see that they really honour this dog and his story. Also I found out that uniqlo has at the moment at Shibuya any shirt collection called: shibuya Hatchiko with nice designs. A nice souvenir to get 🥰

This statue is to commemorate and remember Hachiko, the loyal dog who went to the train station every day for 9 years looking for his owner. Unfortunately his owner was killed in WW2 and would never return. This loyal dog is considered a national symbol of Japanese loyalty and stoicism. Ironically, you will wait almost 9 years to take your photo next to the statue if you go on during dinner time or, heaven forbid, on the weekend. The statue is right next to Shibuya Scramble so there will be people everywhere. Just line up and wait for the chance to take a photo. We waited about 5 minutes having gone on a Sunday evening. All that being said, it’s a nice statue and definitely worth the photo. I might recommend coming during the day to avoid massive crowds and get a better photo. There’s also a Hachiko mural right next to the station, although with the large crowds at all times it’s hard to get a nice photo in front of it. Still recommend at least seeing the statue even if you’re not keen on waiting for a photo. It’s an somewhat important part of Japanese culture and history.

I didn't know that Hachiko story when I was working in Japan for more than 2 years while young. Finally came back again as a tourist and gave a proper visit. It seems there is always a queue to take a photo with the statue. It shows how many people visit Shibuya/Tokyo everyday and how popular this place is.

Nakano ZERO Some call this public venue the cultural hub of Nakano City. Here in this one, reasonably accessible location, you’ll a concert with wonderful acoustics (more on that later) and a theater hosting every kind of event from dance performances to exhibitions and even movies. When a colleague invited a group of diverse culturally curious folks to a public “community hall” in Nakano to see a local ballet company’s free annual holiday production, my expectations were instantly set to very low. Except for an opportunity to watch ballet live, the chosen venue offered little appeal. I could hardly believe that his plan for the day included having us all arrive hours before the show just so we could “get the best seats.” Perhaps it was my initial low expectations? But oh man, how I was so impressed with this place. Granted, we probably did get the best seats in the house, but the experience was one of the best I’ve ever had for a live show anywhere. And that includes venues like Shinjuku Opera City and Suntory Hall. The acoustics here are truly world class. And the lighting system left no room for complaints as well. The view of the stage from the left side of the hall was quite generous. I could really feel the grace, power, and emotion of the performance.

This is the real anime paradise, floors and hallways full of endless merchandise and amazement. I think it has a little something for everyone, with great food all around and a super cool arcade that wasn't over crowded. The icing on the cake for me, was feeling like I knew the layout before I had ever been there. I played the Digimon Cyber sleuth game and it's largely based in Nakano and the level of details that match up are mind blowing. No matter how many hours I spent it just kept me in a state of wonder.

It was a fun place to visit, lots of shops to visit which were all very tourist friendly to us. We bought a hand made bag from an old Japanese lady who drew a cat on it. There is some gold to find here but it's mostly a little overpriced anime products and food. It's very close to the train station and they have public toilets available.

Wow! It’s a quiet place with amazing little discoveries.. and would you believe a mini Uniqlo! We were looking for manga and we found so many at Nakano Broadway. An old style shopping area and mall with a really cool vibe! I found Takashipom - Takashi Murakami’s art and there is teh cafe in the 2nd floor. Definitely go visit with really great food choices like the Curry and Naan and Chateraise with daifukus and Mont Blancs and so much to choose from. Type into Google maps and you will get some great choices on trains and platforms. I was so impressed and it even tells you which carriage to get on for the quickest change over. Google maps was fantastic in helping me discover little hidden gems in Tokyo ❤️

I don’t consider myself to be an otaku but I do have an interest in the uniquely Japanese subculture of manga and anime. Akihabara is the center of otaku culture and I have been there many times. I recently learned that there are also many otaku shops in Nakano Broadway, a shopping area close to the train station. I decided to go check it out since I was in the area. There were many stores located on three floors of an older building. I learned that this was one of the first modern shopping malls in Japan and opened in 1966. After more than half a century, there are definitely some signs of decay. Nevertheless, I was happy to explore the mall and was excited to find some vintage Ultraman items. By the way, Ultraman made his debut in 1966 too. “Shuwatchi”!

I had heard about Nakano Broadway as being an alternative otaku mecca in Tokyo versus the more famous district of Akihabara but hadn't had a chance to visit on previous trips to Japan. This time I made it a point to check it out and it was certainly worth the trip and I would highly recommend it to any fellow otaku but with some caveats. First off, Nakano Broadway is primarily a great place to shop for pre-owned merch rather than new stuff. It's an older commercial center with the bulk of the anime and pop culture-themed shopping being made up of the 27 different Mandarake shops scattered all over the second to fourth floors of the mall. Yes, that's right TWENTY-SEVEN, but each shop specializes in a particular category of pre-owned goods ranging from manga to anime figures to diecast cars to kaiju/tokosatsu goods to cosplay items and so on. Mandarake is one of Japan's biggest pre-owned retailers and Nakano Broadway houses their headquarters so you'll find an ample selection of items but that also means a lot of searching through often tightly-packed stores to find any items you're interested in. Scattered amongst the Mandarake shops are various smaller stores selling a mix of new and used items. The new stuff that's for sale tends to be goods from older series and not merchandise from the latest and greatest shows or games – for that you'll want to stick to Akihabara where there's a far greater selection of new release goods. Another caveat is that Nakano Broadway can feel like an absolute maze with a scattershot arrangement of stores and corridors going every which way so allot plenty of time to browse if you're here for otaku goods shopping. The basement level is mainly groceries and the first floor is mainly clothing and everyday items so head straight to the second, third, and fourth floors if you're only interested in pop culture stuff. Yes, Akihabara is far more confusing due to its sheer size, especially to the newbie, but Nakano Broadway can still be pretty maddening considering it's just one building and especially given the normal Japanese propensity for orderliness. If you have the time and can put up with Nakano's eccentricities it can be very rewarding though. After the first few stores seemed to be yielding squat on my visit I did find a new figure for a favorite character from a not-so-recent but still popular anime series for a rock bottom price, several unique die-cast cars, and a promotional Nissan GT-R DVD I'd never seen before for cheap. Other items also tempted me but luggage space considerations helped save my wallet from more suffering. Go into Nakano Broadway with patience and a treasure hunting mentality and you'll be rewarded.

The Jack Road and Betty shops have a wide variety of used watches, both vintage and recent models. Although you must do your due diligence as the are not always the best (depending where you are from). Easier to navigate/find items vs. Akihabara, where sometimes you really need to dig deep to find the real gems.

Amazing to visit. This place os crazy. Full of little shops with lots of otaku and geeky stuff. The quality of the mall is really lacking, narrow and long corridors, short heights. But rather than taking from the experience it actually brings it to another bizarre level. Worth visiting for fun.

From old vintage time pieces, japanese watches, to swiss luxury watches that costs an arm and a leg! This place has it all too! Spent almost the whole day here just looking at watches and comparing prices from one store to the next. There’s honestly nothing quite like it. I have not encountered a similar place like Nakano in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan or South Korea where watch shops - selling brand new and pre-owned pieces, are just scattered all over an entire floor! The place has an abundance of restaurants and food options too! From snacks to great meals. They even have some pet shops! Some negatives: Nakano is quite far from the usual tourist spots. Although, the place is easily accessible via train. One you reach Nakano Station, take the North Exit and you will see Nakano Broadway. You cant miss it. Another negative is the lack of trash cans/bins. The place is also a bit old and dated, but its part of the appeal.

Loved Nakano Broadway! Only a short ride on the Chuo-Sobu line from Shinjuku Station. Multiple shops here to take all of your money! Everything from Ice Cream to Toys! I highly recommend taking a trip out this way if you are staying in lower Tokyo area. Small alleys with supermarket and great food too. Very old school vibes in this area.
