A must visit place! I was really impressed with the beauty of the Old Town of Lijiang. The Old Town at night or day has its own beauty. Explore the town at day if you’d love to admire the beauty of quiet time and ancient architecture. To enjoy the hustle and bustle and the culture here, you can visit the town at night. The Old Town of Lijiang comprises three component parts: Dayan Old Town (including the Black Dragon Pond), Baisha and Shuhe housing clusters. Lijiang also possesses an ancient water-supply system of great complexity and ingenuity that still functions effectively today.

A beautiful place to walk through during the day. We heard the night life is even better. Tons of bars and restaurants to choose from. Streams of water run along side the buildings.

That’s a beautiful traditional Chinese city. I recommend to visit it during the day and night as there are different things to do. Very safe place. December period is best as it is not too cold and it’s outside tourists season. Avoid hotels inside the old city not because they are not good but you may find it difficult to carry your luggage there as it’s going up and down and the roads are not flat. When I was there I stayed at Hotel Indigo Lijiang which is located at the south west entrance of the old city. The hotel was fully renovated, very clean and staff were very helpful and help us organizing our trip to the Dragon Jade Mountain. The first day he offered us tea and we talked for an hour. You can visit the Shizi Mountain from where you’ll see the panorama. They also have beautiful gardens and lots of small traditional shops, rose cakes, tea and coffee. If you love coffee but some beans there as they produce their owns. I recommend staying 2 to 3 nights as it’s enough time visit the old city and the Dragon Jade mountain area.

It's the most beautiful old town I have ever been to. It's an amazing experience immersing myself in hundreds of years of history. The place is clean and well kept. Strolling down the streets you can find good street food, nice souvenir shops. At night, you must not miss the bars along the main street. Also, don't forget to enjoy the great view of the whole town from up the hill.

Amazing experience visiting this place at night. The colours, the energy. Vibrant and incredibly surreal. It is like having night markets, restaurants, bars and bistros, night clubs all in a same area. So many people, so alive; all framed into an ancient city setting of cobblestone streets, water canals and very old buildings. Overwhelming.

Clean and fantastic system of waterways and bridges around. However, it's too crowded and noisy, and not as ancient as I expected.

I do not recommend this place for anyone expecting a genuine old town. The whole place is newly built or renovated, full of Disneyland-style stores.

Shuhe ancient town is not bustling as Lijiang, not many things to see.

This is one of the best ancient towns in lijiang. With its less commercial and easy to access, its the most livable town. This is the only town having crystal clean water passing through its waterways. It even carries koi fish inside.

Our tour group brought us there. This is yet another outdoor shopping center masquerading as an "ancient town". This is largely an effort made by the central government for minority groups to earn a living: people live above their shops. The only thing I found interesting was the strange looking cat-like creature on the roof of many buildings that supposedly protects the inhabitants. Relatively speaking, this ancient town is very laid back as most shops open later than other "ancient towns". Even when the shop is open, there may not be anyone inside. We went inside a coffee shop and the guy from the next shop told us to stay put while he called the owner who was still sleeping. Overall, this looks truly like an ancient town and it is not fancy and crowded with young people like lijiang where young people take selfies and post them on douyin (tiktok).

Not sure why this is rated so highly but Shuhe Old Town is a total tourist trap. There’s a ¥30/person entrance fee if you enter from the main gate. As we walked around the town we did see side entrances you can sneak in from for free. The whole town itself is basically a run-down and less interesting version of Lijiang Old Town. Sure, there are less people but it was almost to a point where it felt deserted. Also, many of the shops were closed adding even more to the desolate feeling. Maybe it was because we came on a Tuesday afternoon...but according to people we have asked, it’s a pretty peak season for Lijiang travel. I also didn’t feel like anything was authentic about this town. All the buildings featured stalls after stalls of the same tourist shops: tea, textile (scarves and “ethnic” clothing), flower cakes, and silver. I walked into an indigo textile shop only see to “made in India” on the tags... It’s almost like Shuhe wanted to duplicate Lijiang Old Town but it did it in the most tacky and unthoughtful way. Oh also, there are horse/donkey drawn carts going through the streets (for the tourists) so you gotta be careful you don’t step in a steaming pile of poop. The buildings are quite pretty though so if you’re looking to take some nice photos without anyone in them, this would be a nice place. Otherwise, I’d totally give this town a miss and just stick with Lijiang Old Town.

Another ancient town in Lijiang, with longer history than the main one. Since it is a little less know and not in the center of the city, it attracts less tourists, making the area quieter. Don't get discouraged by what you see in the beginning, go to the further ends of the town to see narrow valleys and feel the spirit of the old town. There are numerous cosy cafes all over the place, but I cannot say anything about the quality of their service, since I have not entered to any of them. A lot of couples are having photo shoot sessions in the upper part of the old town. The entrance fee is 40rmb.

By the time we visited this town (June 2019), some of the roads are still under construction, so it is a bit dusty (so wear your face mask). According to the tourist guide, the items sold here is much cheaper than at Lijiang Old Town. But personally, some items are still a bit pricey especially the silver items. Love the old town vibe especially the cafes near the waterway. It was beautifully decorated with flowers and other ornaments. The waterway flowing along the town is also very clean and crystal clear. In terms of shopping, so far most of the shops only accept cash (but I actually saw some locals used WeChat pay). Ability to converse in Mandarin is an advantage as you may be able to have a better bargain or deal as compared to when you're not. 😅 If you are planning to come during summer time, please remember to bring umbrellas or hat and apply your sunscreen (SPF) as the UV rays here is FOUR times higher than any other places.

Other old town that Lijiang has, is Shuhe. This one is quite far, we need to take a bus and have a little walk. The different between Shuhe and Lijiang Old Town, Shuhe is more likely as an attraction where tourists can sit, eat, take a horse trip, shopping, and taking photos. I found Shuhe is not a great place to stay since it far away from town and I agree with someone say that Shuhe is like a tourist trap. What I like about Shuhe, is at their back side. The main side is quite boring, nothing authentic and too many shops than something to see. But if you walk thru inside the area, when there’s landscape, rice fields, small river, it’s more calming. And so many pre wedding session as always haha.

Pleasant enough park, but 50RMB entry fee is a rip-off. No option to pay cash so for foreigners it's the usual Wechat / passport number nonsense (despite poor mobile phone reception).

Scenic park with great view of nature - few hundred years trees, crystal clear pool and underground spring, view of Jade Dragon mountain, Na-xi musium, relaxing local Na-xi people doing their morning folk dance, exercise / tai-chi, peaceful stream and numerous plants and flowers. This park also connect to Gucheng 古城walk path. Beside Jade Dragon mountain, this is another must-go place for Lijiang.

This is just a beautiful place everyone should visit!! I brought my parents here because they both are nature lovers. We were all so amazed by the scenery. Thanks to the good whether, we managed to take all these beautiful photos and had such a good family trip! I would suggest rent a car or book a car with driver to travel around and capture all these views on the way. We stayed there for only 4 days but if I would go there again, maybe a week is enough. Just relax by the lake, do some yoga and mediate :)

It’s a crystal clear lake with blue sky. Amazing landscape here. You can also sail a boat for lake tour. It’s a quite huge lake that you can travel around the lake enjoy the different view from every spot. Sailing is one of my favorite way to visit the breathtaking lake.

Nice place to stay for a couple of nights. Beyond that it gets boring. Very touristy. There are some nice trekking trails. Transportation was a bit difficult to figure out. Didn't quite understand the park admission fee either.

Scenic place as imagine, went on the traditional boat tour, it was obviously no pollution at both air and water. However, scenery observation decks can be small and overcrowded. Can't get a good scenic picture with over crowded tourist.

Absolutly the most beautiful place I have been so far. Pristine water, great weather, away from the crowds, calm. And the views... Just amazing. If you plan to go there, stay in Luoshui, as it is most developed of all the towns around the lake (others are really basic and in construction). When you're there, rent a bike and cycle around the lake - the distance is around 45km, but the surface is mostly flat. It took me 6h to complete the trip. The sun there is quite strong, don't forget about sunscreen.

A beautiful place to visit. A bit touristy as you would expect in a place like this but still has a local village feel to it. Try venturing out to the surrounding areas and you will see a very traditional side of China.

Big stage, beautiful background with the scenery of Yulong Snow Mountain. However, Impression Lijiang Show is not as good as Tianmen Fox Fairy Show I saw in Zhangjiajie.

It is fantastic open air theater telling the stories of Lijiang natives in a series of plays. Some are fun, one was tragic and terribly poignant. The scale of the production is admirable, hundred of actors, lots of horses, stage that looks like the sides of a mountain and to top it off - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as a backdrop. Do bring an umbrella as it can be very warm when the sun is high. Location on google satellite image are 27.100725°N, 100.256527°E.

Has seen this show for the third time over many years and it still worth my one hour there. The weather here can be a little tricky as all 3 times i am here be greeted by slight to moderate rain.

Lovely series of lakes cascading from one onto the next. Marvelous view of the waterfalls and surrounding hills. The water is beautiful in turquoise in some lake and azure sky in the higher lakes. The area is also well done up with soft and hard landscaping. There are well made pathways and platforms making the areas around the lakes very accessible. You could spend half a day here if you wish to explore fully. Enjoyed my visit here.

Beautiful site, with stunning views of the snow mountain and valley. If you want to go, it’s about 20 minutes from Lijiang to the tourist centre. From there you leave your car and take a bus up to the valley. The tourist centre is very new and has a number of other sites to choose from. On a side note, unless you are asthmatic or have some other breathing condition DON’T buy the bottled oxygen. It’s a waste of money and more importantly completely pointless. There is no strenuous hiking at the site and the empty bottles are seen littered everywhere. Overall this is a must see spot ❤️

It’s a beautiful place for photo ops. That’s what most people really come for. On this Friday we probably saw 20 wedding photo shoots. There are some legends about young couples and this valley so many come just for that. There are some trails along the water but never saw a map so can’t tell you how far they take you. Most people just hop on and off the green golf carts to take them to the next photo opp. Very easy to explore.

Nice place and a lot of Photo Booths there. Crowded but the area is worth to witness the snow mountain with water fall and some natural forest. good for nature lovers. you can even observe some girls wearing the traditional costumes and taking photos.
