I am currently staying at the Tokyo Station Hotel, and wow, what a fantastic experience. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at, and I am traveling a lot, staying at various 5 star hotels. The breakfast is outstanding, both in terms of quality, quantity and dish variation. I love the room and the style. In particular, I like the classy details -- everything is also extremely well thought out with numerous luxurious details that you might not think of at first, but that adds to the whole. The staff is very respectful and helpful (they even helped me get back my iPad that I lost in Fukuoka). The location is perhaps the best in Tokyo. I am going to be back here soon!

Staying at the Tokyo Station Hotel is always a must for me. Excellent friendly staff that make us feel so welcome every time we return. The Rooms are so luxurious, the location is right in the middle of everything. Easy access to the subway or JR rail. Restaurants, cafes, luxury shopping & everything you could need is right there. It’s always something I look forward to whenever I’m in Tokyo

A fantastic hotel on top of Tokyo station making journeys to and from Tokyo easy. The rooms are comfortable and despite being on top of the station are incredibly quiet. The bathroom is spacious and the toiletries are replaced daily. The breakfast is a buffet and there is plenty of choice throughout the large dining room. There are a number of tea and coffee options too. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and are attentive when in the dining room. If I return to Tokyo, I will look to book this hotel again.

The hotel is a destination. That’s for sure. And it is above the tracks so you will hear the wheels rumbling. The corridors are epic in length so use the alternative entrances and exits. And the housekeeping was hit and miss. Great location for the city transportation. And the bar makes some tasty cocktails too. ¥1000 a day to use the gym.

We were treated absolutely atrociously by reception staff, in particular the duty manager, after having mixed up days for our booking. We arrived a day earlier by mistake, for a one-night stay, and the hotel shows absolutely zero compassion, courtesy or care. We were offered a standard rack-rate room replacement for the night which was considerably higher than what we’d already paid. We may have originally made a mistake on our end but ended up being absolutely humiliated when attempting to check in with shameful treatment tinged with what I can only describe as racist undertones. In over two decades of visiting Japan regularly, I’ve never experienced anything like this. The Tokyo Station Hotel is not an international hotel and it clearly does not want to be one. Avoid. Thankfully we managed to get a last-minute room at the Marunouchi Hotel which is only a short walk away, a fraction of the price, but an infinitely better and more welcoming experience.

The service at The Tokyo Station Hotel is impeccable. It’s always a great experience for me staying here. The hotel itself is rich of history and décor shows the influence of Japan. Not to mention that the hotel breakfast buffet is one of the best I’ve had. The only thing I wish they had was prob an elevator that takes you right down to the JR train platform (🤣).

Excellent: Location, breakfast, service, amenities. The only downside is that you may end up walking quite a bit to and from your room. They do have access points away from the reception desk, but it can still be quite a walk.

Excellent service and great breakfast! We couldn't believe the hospitality we experienced during our stay. We asked for basic directions to the NRT Express from the lobby of the hotel and one of the kind concierges assisted us with purchasing tickets and walked us all the way to the platform and chatted with us until the train arrived. She was so kind, thank you!!! You obviously can't beat the location of this historic hotel. Such a cool experience with a view of the Tokyo Station lobby!

Location! Location! Location!!! Located in right next to the train platform entrance of Tokyo station. Super convenient. Beautiful hotel. Trains goes around but inside hotel was very quiet. I stayed with my husband and 2 little daughters at junior suite. It was decent size of room and high ceiling. Bed was little small but comfortable. Their breakfast and room service were delicious. Staffs were very polite and friendly. I’d love to stay again.

Although my family had a nice stay here, I can't give this hotel 5 stars because the room cost was so outrageously overpriced. The location is very convenient for early morning trains from Tokyo station, however the service we received at check-in was less than ideal for this price range. I'm referring specifically to being informed quite directly that breakfast was not included in our ¥110,000/night room rate, when I was already aware of this and I didn't ask. It was as if I was being sternly reminded that I was being ripped off. On top of that, during the walk to our room, I was asked what time I would like breakfast in the morning...as if it was an included amenity. I felt like the hotel wanted our money only, as it's first priority.(For comparison, if you want an example of impeccable service at check-in, then check into the Shangri-La, next to Tokyo station). There are some definate pros to this hotel though...our room was 2 stories which is an enormous amount of space by Tokyo standards and the decor is very classy. The location is unbeatable and most impressive is that for being located at Tokyo station the room was completely silent. There was ZERO train or city noise, I tried to listen for it which I thought was amazing. I slept well and woke early feeling well rested and ready for my trip. The breakfast (which was not included) was very good by Tokyo buffet standards. We were given a semi-private dining room with our 2 small children which was appreciated. Although, I felt like I had a ¥110,000 sleep, my husband was not impressed and said he would not stay here again based on the level of service received at check-in for this price range.

If gorgeous turn of the century architecture and boutique hotels are your thing, then this is the hotel for you. The hotel is quaint, intimate, well connected and luxurious. It has character and history. Def one for my must return list.

As always, the Tokyo Station Hotel provides outstanding accommodations and superior service. Rooms are furnished beautifully, with every need met. The staff is warm, welcoming, efficient, and offers personal service. The Hotel is extraordinarily convenient, and remains a highlight of each trip.

Top hotel without a doubt. Room upgrade and breakfast buffet was comped due to being a Hyatt member. Buffet by far the BEST EVER. Service was top with concierge taking us all the way to our departure line!! So conveniently located to Ginza stores, Tsukiji Outer Market by taxi.

This is a luxury, elegant and sophisticated hotel. The services are amazing. We were here for our wedding anniversary and the hotel organized to take a wedding anniversary photo for us. The picture was put in a delicate frame and give us as a gift when check out. The breakfast is nice and you can enjoy the meal in a bright and beautiful restaurant which is on the top the train station. The room we stayed is right on the Tokyo Station and you can see the passengers walking inside the station from the window. The bed, pillow are so comfortable and relaxing. Strongly recommended.

There is no doubt that this is a special hotel being of cultural importance and history. The location is excellent, right at the station so that it is very easy to catch any train to any destination from Tokyo station. The rooms are small but are very attractive with extremely high ceilings. Ours was a dome room which, unfortunately, didn't have an outside view but looks out onto the station forecourt which made it rather claustrophobic for us. The main issue is one of value for money. At the high price we paid we did not think that the hotel offered value for what we paid. There are other hotels in similar proximity which are much cheaper. True they would not be of such cultural and historical interest but as on holiday you don't spend that much time in the room, would have been a more economic solution.

One of the best hotels we’ve stayed in. Room was super comfortable, luxurious & quiet. Loved the location away from the crowds of the day. All staff are extremely polite, helpful & attentive. We particularly enjoyed the Bar Café Camellia, which serves wonderful cocktails, wine & offers a small menu, all items we tried were excellent. Bar Oak serves first class cocktails.

We spent four nights at the Tokyo Station Hotel. I would rate the entire experience more than 5 stars if possible. Upon arriving, we were immediately greeted at the front desk and we were guided to our room and they also transported our luggage to the room. They were also very helpful in setting up the luggage forwarding to our next hotel. We did not have to do a thing, they filled out all the forms and had everything ready at check out. Breakfast was included for our stay and the food was amazing. Service at the breakfast buffet was also superb, everybody there was very attentive. The room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room was also very quiet, you could not even hear other doors open and closing in the hallway. When we checked out, we simply asked how to get to the Shinkansen platform from the hotel. And instead of them just telling us where to go, one of the ladies at the front desk actually guided us throughout the entire Tokyo station up to where we would wait for our seats on the platform. I will forever be grateful for her. Unfortunately I did not get her name, but she was very kind and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel for the service, comfort and convenience of being so close to the station!

Our best accommodation experience in Japan. Friendly service. Elegant accommodation. Spacious rooms. Presently surprised with an upgrade to the Ambassador suite featuring multiple bathrooms, large parlor, office and dinning room, all with views of the imperial palace. We will definitely return and stay at this immaculate property again.

It is with my 100th review on Google Maps that I talk about my outstanding time stayed at the Tokyo Station Hotel. I’ve walked through the Tokyo Station (and got lost) dozens of times. It’s grand halls full of humanity going to and from is quite a sight for the senses. During my recent vacation to Japan I wanted to stay in a luxurious five star hotel and The Tokyo Station Hotel fit all my needs. The staff went above and beyond to cover all my needs. From shlepping my huge duffel bags to my room, to arranging me a private taxi to Handeda Airport for my return trip to the US. The room was 5/5 with high ceilings, room to walk, a full size amazingly comfortable bed, with a full sized bathroom (please look at my photos). It was quite a change from places I’d been staying earlier in my trip. Their buffet at The Atrium was also superb with many types of food to accommodate a Western or Japanese style meal. It was simply fabulous and I won’t forgot the relaxing and memorable time I had at The Tokyo Station Hotel.

My room was large and had a pleasant view. Did not find anything to fault and would gladly stay here again if cost is not an issue. Would have been better if I could spend some proper time at the hotel or use its facilities and services, not just use it as a bed to sleep at night.

This hotel was absolutely amazing, it was in the perfect location right next to the station so in the mornings you can easily catch transport, the interior of the hotel was very modern and clean with the miniature version of the bullet train as decoration. I stayed at this hotel for a vacation and it was perfect. The rooms are spotless and the bathrooms have extra things like toothbrushes skincare kits headbands and more and the view from the rooms is incredible. I would highly recommend if you are going to Japan stay at this hotel 💗

Imperial Palace is another major tourist spot in Tokyo, Japan. Imperial Palace is pretty huge to wander around and need to walk a lot to see the places around palace. Good to carry water bottle and snacks in hand for quick sip and bite. Pretty amazing historical place and neatly maintained by the officials and peoples as well.

This review is about the outskirts of the place. You’ll need to book a ticket in advance if you want to enter inside the palace grounds which I still haven’t done yet. Easy walk around the entire place, gives you different views of the city. I also like the different flowers on the walkway. Lots of joggers and bikers so be careful walking.

We visited imperial palace gardens and it was just amazing experience. I liked the relaxing atmosphere although we were not alone there. It must be even better in warmer months when flowers and trees bloom!

The grounds of the Imperial Palace are very well maintained, and is a great place to visit for a walk. We visited in January, so it is most likely less crowded during that time. If you're in the area, it's a great place to stop by to see the gardens and buildings.

The immaculately maintained gardens, the intricate woodwork, and the traditional designs all contribute to an atmosphere that exudes elegance and tranquility. Exploring the palace grounds was like stepping back in time. The vast gardens, meticulously manicured and bursting with vibrant flora, offered a welcome respite from the bustling city outside. Strolling through the picturesque landscape, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of serenity and connection to nature. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the tour of the palace's interior. The intricate artwork, delicate sliding doors, and breathtakingly beautiful interiors left me in awe. It was a privilege to witness the preserved living spaces of the Imperial family and gain insight into their daily lives. The combination of historical significance and architectural brilliance was a feast for the senses.

There are two free guided tours available per day. The guided tours are available in multiple languages and provide an outside walking tour of the inner grounds. Prior planning is necessary if you are interested in the guided tour. The tour consists of information regarding the history of the various buildings on the premises and their uses. The tour can be interesting for those who like the historical information, however the buildings themselves are not that intricate to look at. There is also an East Garden that is available to walk though and visit with no planning necessary.

OK. I may get some flack for this one. We spent about 2 hrs walking around the garden area of the Imperial Palace. It is nice, quiet, but also does not directly connect into the Palace grounds where we were hoping to see and take pictures of this historic area. We walked from the garden area to a bridge that we believed would grant us entry. However, the guards were giving us mixed information. One told us it was closed. Another pointed towards the direction we just walked from and said we needed to buy tickets. There isn't a ton of shade out there and the heat from the sun, humidity and hunger set in and we decided, this was as close as we were going to get. Honestly, without seeing the Palace up close - we kinda just walked around a lack luster garden. Sure it's nice, but was it time well spent? Not really. Unless you can find how to actually see the Palace up close or have a guided tour - this may be a pass for you. We still found it interesting and peaceful but without seeing thr Palace itself... it just felt like we made a poor decision. Especially because time isn't your friend on vacation. Maybe if there had been clear signs, in English and other languages to help guide visitors on proper entry this might have been worth it. There were other travelers who seemed just as confused as us.

It's rare that an active royal palace is open to tours like this one. That being said, don't expect to see much up close, as the tour only covers the outside grounds of the palace facilities. The guides are very friendly and knowledge, too. I recommend getting tickets in advance or getting the the queue 1:30h before the tour starts.

There are free guided tours at 8 am (?) and 1 pm most days. Definitely check out the official website to make sure that they are open for visitors. Sadly, did not have time for the tour but there are gardens where all visitors are welcome. I imagine it to be much prettier during warmer seasons.

I was staying in Tokyo for one night and got off at this train station which happened to be the Imperial palace There are 2 scheduled tours 1:00 in the morning and 1 at 1300. No reservations needed they can take up to 70 people per tour or tour with It was very informative and had plenty to see they have multilingual Tour guides. It is very it is very well put together and recommend it to anyone with family or by yourself.

I visited here in summer. It opens only morning time and limited only 70 visitors per round. All visitors need to walking tour as group. There are available for 5 language guide such as Japanese, English, French, Chinese and Korean (Not sure). Japanese guide is always available, but other language subjected to available guide in that day. I did't make a reservation before visiting, but lucky me there was an English tour. The tour started at 10am, but I recommend to arrive before at least 15 minutes. Open to queue from 9am. The walking tour takes almost 1 hour. Visitors are not allowed to walk tour by themselves. There are toilets and vending machine only at waiting area. Better to be ready before tour.

Well worth a visit. We took the free tour through the palace grounds, not much possible to see otherwise as you are not allowed through the gates other than in a guided tour. Still, you can see the moat and main gates. The tour takes you through the palace grounds, though not inside any buildings. There is Japanese, English, and sometimes other languages available. Tour takes about 2 hours (incl. orientation, etc.), quite interesting if you enjoy history and architecture, otherwise you may find it boring. It's also very warm and a lot of walking, so be prepared. Would recommend reserving a spot on the tour in advance, otherwise you need to show up at least one hour in advance to be sure to get a spot on the tour. There is one at 13:00 and one in the morning (11:00?)

A very breezy place to visit and learn about the history of their imperial palace history. However, you need to make sure you have booked the ticket online or queue in advance as the ticket will send out completely after a certain number of visitors. It’s FREE so I will recommend to book it online.

A very beautiful open area with some amazing scenery! You can also learn the history of some of the buildings and what purpose they served at their time of use. We did not go inside the palace itself but explored the surrounding area, if you want to go inside you should book in advance or arrive very early as it is extremely popular.

Awesome free walking tour with an English speaking guide. The gardens are brilliant and the layout inspired by the elements of Japanese culture. Great for getting a few elevated pictures of ‘old and new’ buildings of Tokyo.

Beautiful beautiful scenery! A lot of land to cover even though the main garden was closed. I went on a Sunday and they close at 5. Security does check your bag at the entrance. It’s free to get in. Cherry Blossoms, Plum trees and different quarters I seen! Just beautiful! Would definitely go back when the weather breaks and also when the other gardens are open. The whole area is just so serene and peaceful. Would love to see the Emperor but I missed his birthday by a week!

Book a tour time slot (free) a few weeks in advance and check back for cancellations. The tour isn’t really informative but it’s a leisurely stroll. After everyone checks in, they do an orientation indoors then everyone disperses to find a tour group in whichever language they want to listen in. If you speak a major language besides English (Spanish, French, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and maybe some others), try to go with that group as the English group is at least 5 times bigger than the next biggest group but only has one tour guide so it’s hard to hear and see the photos they hold up. Ideally, they should employ more English tour guides and make the check in process electronic. Not a big deal if you don’t get tickets to enter the palace grounds. I don’t think you’re missing out on a ton. There are only like 2 times during the tour where the photos would look super cool but there are so many people that it’s hard to get a good shot.

Pretty cool to know this was once the largest fortress in the world, but I wish we did more research beforehand. I was expecting to see the interior, wondering what a Japanese "Castle" was like after seeing various European builds. Naive, I didn't realize the Imperial Family still lives here. So, it's like visiting the White House. Viewing the exterior is okay to the public but the interior is completely off limits. I. SERVICE Security is strictly enforced everywhere you go. The entry to the Imperial Garden wasn't very clear so we walked quite some ways around the moat to get to the entry. II. QUALITY The inner-walls, containing the gardens weren't anything impressive to me. No floral arrangements or hedges set in a decorative way. Mainly trees and grass, like anywhere else within the city. III. CAPACITY We came on a rainy day and there was no crowds. No line to enter the gardens.

It’s an absolute maze to find the entrance. Do your research beforehand because there are just a few gates and they go to different parts of the gardens (which are free) The gardens themselves are relatively nice but there are lots of people on a weekend. There’s a long inward spiral to get closer to the palace itself. The security guards are extremely strict about you walking in the same direction (literally had to be escorted on the side to walk 50 m backwards to the toilet, after assuring the security guard that no, I was not willing to speed walk another 500 m to the next toilet), which feels like people enforcing rules for the sake of enforcing them. This part of the garden is plain and easily skippable. This is also when we found out that the palace itself is closed (they have two tours daily at fixed times, otherwise) because of an event happening that weekend. Pretty disappointing. If this park were more accessible or there were communication about the palace being closed or the security were less authoritarian, it would have earned a better rating. 2 stars for the decent initial garden area.

There are a couple of free tours in the palace per day, but you need to come early to get a spot. Otherwise, you can’t enter. A pity I missed my chance and only managed to walk around the area. Still very nice in any case.

Nice to look at and walk around the parts you are able to visit. However, as other visitors mention, you do need to book a slot in advance (free to book) for the Tour in order to visit the Gardens inside. Or queue up early before 8am to grab one of the daily spots available that way.

You can choose to explore this place on your own or do it along with the guided tour of the imperial palace. I would recommend the later. There is not much of the castle left here, it is more of a fun exercise imaging how things would have been back in history. The imperial palace tour is good.

Edo Castle, or Chiyoda Castle, the biggest castle in Japan is part of Tokyo Imperial Palace and was home to the powerful Tokugawa Shogun. Now, the site houses the imperial family palace and residence, and some areas are open to the public, such as the gardens and several museums. The garden is gorgeous and peaceful; I spent a few hours for walking around, enjoying the scenery in this park and the beautiful trees; one side of the view is city buildings and the other side is the view of the Imperial Palace. It is open daily, from 9 am to 5 pm, and closed on Friday. Admission is free.

Edo Castle (aka, Chiyoda Castle) was originally built in 1457 by Ōta Dōkan in Edo, Toshima District, Musashi Province. Now, what’s left of that castle, the Edo Castle Ruins are officially part of Tokyo Imperial Palace in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Unlike other major castles around Japan, the main buildings are all gone. All that remains of the ruins are the outer gardens, some minor structures, outer gates, and the inner and outer moats. Even though the main buildings are gone and the majority of grounds are usually off limits to commoners, there’s still lots left to explore. The usually accessible grounds are vast and you’ll have to quite a bit of walking to cover even a fraction of what there is to see. I wouldn’t recommend trying to see everything in a single day. Besides, some parts of the ruins are better enjoyed either early in the mornings or after dark.

Great place to visit in Tokyo specially because it’s outdoors, wear confortable shoes.

Very beautiful during the cherry blossom (Late Mar - early Apr) crowds are large everyday but less during weekdays. Admission is free. Beverages are allowed (non alcoholic) but you must take a sip in front of officers for security reasons. Parking lot gets packed early so plan ahead or just walk. Highly recommend if your in the Tokyo area.

Amazing to see this much open area in the middle of Tokyo. I visited the gardens the only bad part was it was raining so I didnt get to stay or explore everything that I wanted. Worth a visit if you like walking around. Also the walls are built with such intricacy crazy.

The castle ruins and the surrounding park are lovely to explore. We spent a few hours here and it was really nice. Its worth noting that the park is closed two days a week, and you should check if it is open beforehand.

Edo Castle (江戸城, Edo-jō), also known as Chiyoda Castle (千代田城, Chiyoda-jō), is a flatland castle that was built in 1457 by Ōta Dōkan. It is today part of the Tokyo Imperial Palace and is in Chiyoda, Tokyo (then known as Edo), Toshima District, Musashi Province. Tokugawa Ieyasu established the Tokugawa shogunate here. It was the residence of the shōgun and location of the shogunate, and also functioned as the military capital during the Edo period of Japanese history. After the resignation of the shōgun and the Meiji Restoration, it became the Tokyo Imperial Palace. Some moats, walls and ramparts of the castle survive to this day. However, the grounds were more extensive during the Edo period, with Tokyo Station and the Marunouchi section of the city lying within the outermost moat. It also encompassed Kitanomaru Park, the Nippon Budokan Hall and other landmarks of the surrounding area.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We witnessed a traditional show, the whole place is full of cherry blossoms. It was thrilling.

A peaceful place, nobody was there when we went. Probably not that famous, but the story behind is intersting. If I get it right, every kamikazes' souls during the the WWII reached this place after death and it's told they still reside here. I got Goosebumps.

It's beautiful. The shrine is dedicated to the respect of all those who died fighting for Japan from the Meiji Era onward. There is the shrine proper, the Yushukan a museum to preserve the memory of the kami, an archive, a beautiful garden and several monuments. The shrine is very important and there is a lot of people there during the day. The best time to be there is very early in the morning.

Very beautiful and peaceful place. They were doing construction before an event so there was scaffolding, but even that was pretty. Inside the museum is a nice gift shop and a pretty public toilet. Quick note, if you want to take a photo of the shrine, take it from the side near the gravel (or the guard will politely remind you).

A kind of “hidden” museum which subscribes the more recent history of Japan. Descriptions are also in English language. Certainly recommended when you want to see the real history of Japan.

Museum is situated in a historical precinct, which is impressive. The museum itself covers Japanese military & foreign policy from Shogun period to WW2 period. Exhibits & presentation is outstanding although tended to concentrate on navy over army I thought. Some aspects of military history missing or lightly covered..Pearl Harbour, the bombing of northern Australia. Whilst it has 2 real aircraft, and one model of a Zero, I would have thought a collection of Japanese aircraft models would have enhanced aviation history telling, especially as there were some impressive WW2 ship models exhibited. I particularly liked the the collections and individual story gallery. Also a good exhibit on submarine visits to Germany. Overall, enjoyed the museum and environs..worth a visit if a history buff.

Must see in Tokyo. Beautiful Shrine. Established in the Meiji era

Came here last week. Not far from Lidabashi station. Better to enter from the east entrance where there is a small park. The temple grounds is quite large, worthwhile to explore.

True to its reputation, this shrine has some interesting galleries and exhibitions on the more sensitive topics. But otherwise, it’s a pretty huge shrine/park with seats every couple of steps for you to rest and enjoy the atmosphere.

Shrine itself is beautiful and peaceful. Inside the compound is a museum with deep understanding about Japan imperialism, and pay a respect to people who died to protect Japan. Some exhibit may causing concern and disturbing. If you are a historian this is the must.

Well known for controversial annual visits by Japanese Prime Ministers. This shrine is to respect the fallen war heroes and as they all perished giving their lives to the Emperor, it is perceived as a Mecca to extreme right wings. The politics aside, the place is pretty with big bunches of cherry blossoms in spring. Their cafe has the most lovely loo just for your information.

Very big temple with - parking, vending machines, museum, food stalls and largely many festivals and ceremonies held very frequently. One of the best places to visit and experience the difference - pleasant and lively location with lot of Ginko trees and tree shades to beat the heat while in summer, beat the cold with fantastic views in winter, thrilling views during autumn with the color changes … a place one should never miss.

Very beautiful shrine. The yearly Mitama Matsuri is a must see in Tokyo. Japanese people honor the spirits of the dead on these days. The shrine is decorated with 30,000 lanterns during this time.

A controversial spot for a lot of people, therefore don't miss this temple. In the park u can also find a Noh Theatre space for outdoor performance, just as in the first days of this beautiful form of theater.

Nice, modern gathering venue for concerts and exhibitions. 5~10 minute walk from JR/Tokyo Metro Tokyo station, or 1~3 minute walk from Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Station. Lots of shops and restaurants in the area.

Nice outdoor area to eat and congregate. Lots of Lunch Wagons along the walkway and Shake Shack, if you like burgers

My first time at the Tokyo International Forum was only walking at the underground walkway from Yurakucho Station 有樂町駅 to Tokyo 東京駅 . We were really impressed by the New Year deco at the TIF underground walkway. The 3 Dragon toy trees with different color theme have really brightened up the walkway . The cute robot on guard to march along the hallway is the interesting part. That was early in the morning during the new year holiday, not many people around.

An incredible structure and architectural piece. I’ve never seen anything like this, on this scale. definitely not located in the center of a city. Go there and experience the place.

Tokyo International Forum, 1997 by Rafael Viñoly Architects The Glass Hall, one of the most daring and imaginative structures ever built in Japan, consists of two intersecting glass and steel arcs, which enclose a vast central lobby and unite the elements of the complex. This dramatic structure is composed of seven stories above ground and three below. The Hall’s 60-meter-high (197-foot-high) curtain wall, a thin veil of heat-strengthened laminated glass hanging from the roof, was designed as transparently as possible to allow visual connection from the theatres and the plaza to the curved granite wall housing the conference center beyond.

Tokyo International Forum is a very impressive conference Center. The event spanning several modern buildings in glass and steel with suspended beams carrying the glass facade and the walkways connecting the rooms and buildings. The facilities are modern and special attention has been paid to the lighting.

Was in and around this building for the Oedo Antique Market. The building is pristine and the architecture is stunning, somehow reminiscent of a large ship inside. They also have clean public toilets, perfect for a pitstop as you explore the market.

For photography, it’s one of Tokyo’s best architecture spots. You don’t have access to the entire building, but plenty of spots to explore and snap photos. Worth a visit.

Went there for WebX event. Great architecture opening spaces and usages. The design is astonishing. The public space and the space semi-outdoor is also very good to sit around. This is a great place for big exhibition in the center of Tokyo.

Very spacious convention center. Quiet place to sit and rest, as if you are in a separate place from the outside city. The convention center halls' entrances are on the basement level. There's a few different restaurants as well, usuallu all quite busy. A very large Krispy Kreme restaurant is in the courtyard area. Lots of benches to sit at.

Fantastic venue for conferences and large events. Multiple levels, restaurants and cafes. Easy access to subway. Adjacent to shops.

As an architect, this was on my can't miss list. From the outside even the shape pulls you in. The space explodes upward from the second you enter. As you move through the space the whale-rib like structure becomes readily apparent. Knowing the complexity of structural design in this earthquake zone, this is a phenomenal design. Having known this space from it's once having been in Progressive Architecture, I had to see it. We simply do not have spaces like this in America. Be sure to take the elevator to the top level and walk around on the upper level. The ramps down and across the upper levels give you a great changing view of this vast multistory open atrium. Stand in one place and pan around to help you truly understand what and how the structure is resisting both gravity dead load and seismic loads as well. The huge cross tube in the middle must be necessary to contain lateral forces present in the tension of placing two convex systems in on each other sort of like a reverse buttress system as in cathedral walls of old. The forces here bear not hidden agenda, and all the members can be understood to be absolutely in synch with each other. A beautiful example of Japan's habit of focusing on rhythm and repetition as a design them. Well done. This is a definite don't miss space.

It was an interesting Sunday market, there were so many stores, from selling their own designer pottery to actual antique, also kimonos and Yukatas. The prices do vary but towards the higher end. You can easily spend a few hours if you're keen to buy. The Market has a really nice atmosphere as most of the stores were under the shade of the trees so it will have problems if it rains. One special mention, the 2nd hand kimonos and Yukatas are very affordable and lots of choices if you're looking for one.

Pretty quiet on a random Tuesday afternoon, but still photogenic~ There are many shrines in this complex, too. Plus a little museum. If you’re in the area, I would recommend going. If you are a stamp collector, as a forewarning it is looseleaf and in the same area as the museum (at least right now) As per usual, please be respectful when visiting. Especially since this a popular wedding spot. Randomly jumping into the couples photos really isn’t the way to go (as I saw some people doing while I was there).

Beautiful shrine complex 1200 years old. The site is very peaceful, with several small shrines and a major sized shrine. The gate is also beautiful and very well ornate. There is a water fall to the right of the main shrine with beautiful iron cast lions. There is also a small pony living in the premises.

A nice but regularly crowded shrine. Has a heavy focus on generating an experience for tourists. It's not terrible though, as they actually put a lot of effort into making it an enjoyable experience for each visitor. The shrine horse is a tiny pony that is very cute.

I went here for Hatsumoude Really nice Jinja, definitely worth a visit.. it's open 24*7 and is of course, free..

Stumbled upon this shrine as, what turned out to be, a happy accident. If you're in the area, then I recommend stopping by. It's beautiful and the lion water feature is very impressive. It is a smaller shrine but definitely doesn't lack impact.

We visited this place back in early March with a family of four, and the children were Ges five and seven. There were plenty to do for all ages, we visited this shrine around 11:00 and at that time it was already filled with tourist and local so it can get little crowded at parts of the shrine. We decided to hire out kimono's for the day at a rental shop nearby and that was a very good experience while visiting the shrine. We stayed near Ginza and this place like most of places I visited was very easy to navigate using the trains, it's tool roughly fifteen minutes to get there with mixed trains and walking children paces. There were probably alot of the area we didn't explore and will revisit next time we are in Japan.

Vibrant with bright gold & red colors on the shrine buildings. They have anime ema available to write & hang. They have a gift store to shop in, along with free parking on the shrine grounds.

I’ve been here a couple of times so far. Great place to take photos. Very nice shop to the left as you enter the grounds. I’m posting about the Bon Odori event. Had some food, watched the dancers and had an overall good time. There were a lot of people there. The staff did well with crowd control. If you get a chance, this event is something you do not want to miss. A great summer tradition to enjoy.

Beautiful shrine with a nice shop for gifts. Free to just walk in and take a look. It even had a miniature horse.

My wife and I visited briefly during the Kanda Myojin Noryo Matsuri, and it was absolutely bustling with visitors, traditional performers, and street food. It was really awesome to see, and with it's super close location I recommend everyone check it out if you're staying in Akihabara. It's also unique as a Shinto shrine in that it very clearly integrates technology into the shrine and its festivals. During our time stopping by, they had V-tubers present on a big screen in the middle of the courtyard. It was very charming, and everyone was having a lot of fun

This is one of the best shrines in Tokyo. It's a beautiful combination of older architecture and modern, with some of the most important Shinto deities honored. I highly recommend their summer festival, or going for the first shrine visit of the year.

You have to visit the Kanda Shrine when you are in Tokyo. I visited a Thursday at 7h30a.m. There were very few people. It was calm and serene and I was able to take beautiful pictures of the Shrine. I would recommend that you go back after sunset and take those beautiful night pictures with the Shrine lights on. Bring mosquito repellent

Beautiful visit on the second day of the Japanese new year. Was lucky to see the Japanese lion dance just before noon. Crowd management was wonderful. If you do not plan to pray at the shrine, you could enter via the side entrance.

It hidden in between residential and commercial buildings. Small and quiet. Locals really go to pray in this place. There is a special exit to kanda Shrine in G14 (Ginza Orange line). It will bring you to an elevator, go to Level 1 and take your right. Walk straight and it would be in your left short after crossing a traffic light. Walk all the stairs up and the Shrine will be in the top. The best was the walk from Kanda Shrine to Ueno Park. You get to know how locals live. Very tiny houses populated Electric distribution cables. Everyone has beautiful flowers on their walkways. Kindergarten kids with color coded caps. It looked like a nice are to live. Passed a very nice supermarket, Plenty of prepared meals and snacks. On the way it is another Shrine which is also cute.

This was a second time when I visited Kanda Myojin, it was interesting to enter the shrine via Otoko Zaka 男坂(a steep of stairs). It is always a different feeling and positive vibes when you enter the shrine like places. There is interesting character inside for Omikuji (try the fortune). One must visit this place if roaming nearby Akihabara area.

This place is the guardian of the central Tokyo area including Toyosu fish market. In early March I visited, and plum flowers were in full bloom. It's sick!

What a nice peaceful shrine. Finally I get to visit a more friendly attraction place. It wasn't busy when I got there but later by 2pm it was starting to get busy but not crowded like other temple in the advertisement for tourists. A nice 30 - 45 mins and quick pray visit. And I continue to do other area for city site viewing walk. The cleaning fountain is outside of the temple before you go in.

very enjoyable experience! Nothing to complain about. The shrine was beautiful and everyone was very respectful. The souvenir shop also contained a lot of items that are worth looking at.

Kitte is located in front of the Tokyo station from Marounochi gate. The building includes shops, restaurants, offices and the Intermediatheque museum. There is a nice rooftop on the sixth floor which is perfect for trainspotters.

This is located in front of Toyko station. The architect is famous architect, Kengo Kuma. The building has a lot of high quality Japan made products to welcome tourists. There is the vintage letter room at 4th floor. Anybody can use here to write a letter to your friends and family! :))

Great place to stop by and look for something you might like. You might find something you will love. Each store is organized very nicely, and there are many reataurants as well.

Great mall for Japanese brands and shops, also awesome observation deck on rooftop

This is a specially designed building, they are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year (2023) . The building was attached to the Tokyo Central Post Office old building. From the 1st floor to the 8th floor are shops and restaurants . The 9th floor is the roof garden, the best place to overlooking and take photo of the Tokyo Station . A nice place to take a break in the heart of Tokyo city. I am lucky to watch a musical event during my visit. Two places in this building you should visit, on 2nd & 3rd floor, the Intermediatheque ( the Museum of University of Tokyo 's research ) , also the mini museum of the Tokyo Central Post Office .

Beautiful and modern shopping mall must visit! Stores are specific Made in Japan / design in Japan. Very cool design, not a typical shopping mall.

It's Good atmosphere place, but, on the lunch time of weekday, a lot of business person came to here to eat and break. Post office on 1st floor has nice goods.

Very modern design with many dining options. You can find unique souvenirs featuring Japan Post, and the rooftop offers a good view of Tokyo Station.

For train lover kids, "6F garden" is great spot to see many trains come and go through Tokyo Station! This observation deck is open to public, you can enjoy Tokyo's skyscraper and Tokyo station's real view from above. There are many restaurants and shops in this building, most of them are children welcome.

Lots of good food (including three sushi restaurants). Direct conection to Tokyo station. Can however be a Little tricky to find. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for authentic Japanese meals! :)

I've got a nice vibe from this mall. Good for shopping unique and small things for self, family, friends and home! Recommend to visit while you go to Tokyo Station.

Like previous Christmas tree, this year's display was beautiful. I look forward to visiting each year to see the decorations. There are many good viewing spots and the staff manage the crowd well.

Beautiful shrine that is largely focused on business success. The beautiful red stairs that lead to the shrine are adorned with flags with the names of businesses. The shrine itself is very spacious and peaceful. A great place to visit if you’re in the area, or in need of some business prayers!

A beautiful place. The stairs upside reminded me of the movie "Rocky". You definitely know what you have achieved when you arrived this place. Upside at the temple you can throw a coin into the shrine and pray. On the back yard that you find by walking to the right side (perspective: you see in front of you the temple) you may leave this spiritual place by taking the stairs downside through the many red coloured portals. Entering this place is for free.

Entry to the shrine is free. The shrine is located in the city center, but has many greenery surrounding it. The map of the temple is provided in the photos. As shown in the map, there are 2 entrance - one that leads you to the red Tori gates while the other one leads you to the temple directly. You will have to climb up flights of stairs at the Tori gates, while at the other entrance, they have escalators up and down at both sides of the stairs. Really a safe saver. In 🇯🇵, the way to pray or worship is to make a bow and then throw the money into the offertory box. Bow twice, clap your hands twice and then make another bow deeply Locals come here to pray for blessings in love, success and prosperity.

Visited during sakura season and they have a few trees in full bloom on 3/31/22. It was not crowded during the midweek. They have several beautiful goshuin books and stamps to choose from. Also many omamori and emas as well. A long staircase lined with many red torii gates is nice to walk through.

Great option if you want to escape the crowds. Would recommend a quick stop but don't plan a full day here. We were here for about 15 minutes, most of the time just waiting to take beautiful pictures of the Shrine. Be prepare to walk up or down steps. There is a road up to it, but most take the steps.

If you're staying in Asakasa, definitely give a little time one morning to visit Hie Shrine. The people looking after it are lovely, you can ride an escalator up the hill, and it's usually busy with something seasonal and full of local people doing their devotions in one way or another. The goshuin is lovely, and is given with a lovely wee amulet charm & bookmark.

Very pretty at night. I sort of stumbled upon it during a night time walk. The red torii gates were lit up and it was possible to see things from the outside even though it was closed. It was very serene and peaceful.

This shrine is a beautiful and peaceful oasis in the heart of bustling Tokyo. I was particularly impressed by the cleanliness and well-maintained grounds. The shrine's main building is also very impressive, with its intricate carvings and colorful decorations. I visited the shrine on a weekday morning, and it was relatively quiet. This gave me a chance to really appreciate the beauty of the shrine and its surroundings. There are also the iconic small torii gates to take a picture, overall a great spot to stop by!

This was my favourite shrine we visited in Tokyo, it was very quiet before 10am anytime we went and is a great unobstructed photo opportunity for tori shrines. There is a little shop where you can buy charms and dedications in the form of white foxes or tori gates etc. We also saw some weddings and kimono phot shoots happening here. Very active and very beautiful spot.

A beautiful shrine in the heart of Tokyo. It has a small walking path of Tori gates you can take into the shrine. If you time it right, you can see beautiful wisteria in the spring. Not very large if you are visiting, but do remember this is an active shrine, so try not to be disruptive while there!

Walked from First Cabin Hotel to Hie Shrine at 8 am. Weather is cold at sunrise and people are coming for first new year blessing. I recommended if anyone want to visit local shrine and get good blessing plus charms (lots of !!!) this is one of good and cleans place in Asakasa area.

I stayed at the APA hotel nearby and were on the way to Akasaka for dinner when I saw the festival (it was June 14). There were many locals doing a dancing ceremony at the big square, they even invited foreigners to join. Normally the shrine is closed at night but the escalator was still operated late that day. There were many lanterns and a big inflated elephant. I did some research and think it was a part of the Sanno Matsuri Festival.

Great place to visit the temple. When visiting the weekends, have high change to see the seven, five, three celebration. An alternative to take photos of the Tori gates. ⛩️

The Tori Gates here are amazing. It’s like you’re entering a portal to a different dimension. The place is also spacious. They even sell charms here. There’s also a very long escalator available which is great for senior citizens and tired people. We had a lot of great photos here and videos as well. The staff here are also polite. While they are not fluent in speaking english, they really did went out of their way to explain the charms that they’re selling. Totally recommended

I found tranquillity in the middle of big city when I accidentally came across this shrine while walking around Tokyo. It's a quite small temple but worth visiting. It was in autumn and I saw some locals celebrating Japanese holiday by dressing up in Kimonos. I captured some beautiful moments with my phone camera. I suggest that you should visit this place when you're exploring Tokyo.

I came specifically for the Tori gates. Nonetheless, it is a gorgeous, relatively quiet temple within the crowded Tokyo. There are many locals who'd do photoshoots at the gate too so come early to avoid a wait and get nicer photos. Their goshuin is pretty too.

Surprisingly beautiful shrine in the city of Tokyo. Once you are here, it doesn't feel as if you are in the city. The Tori gate stairs are very picturesque and make for a good tinder picture if that's what you want people to see. It's definitely a break from busy city life.

An amazing and surprising escape from the city in the middle of Tokyo. A place to find some peace & serenity. Easy to get to with a quick walk from the Harry Potter cafe. Lots of other food options nearby by along with the house of parliament only a few minutes walk away.

Nice shrine hidden in the middle of tokyo city, lots of helpful staff and traditional blessings going on. I was able to witness corporate blessings during my visit. There's also a stairs that feels like fushimi inari kyoto if you want it in Tokyo, they have the tori gates stairs too.

It was really good. Small but well maintained garden( Except water at the base of the waterfall) we couldn't stay there to see light effects but could enjoy greenery . You need to walk, climb up and get down the stairs. There are wooden benches if you want to sit. There was a parking lot but i think not for the private vehicles. IMP:no vending machine nearby so carry your own water bottle. If staying there in the late evening Carrey mosquito repellent too.😅 We forgot to carry so have to leave early !!

What can i say. This places really makes you feel like in the forest, the quietness the trees, the waterfall sound, and all in everything has a peace vibe. There were few restaurants but not open at this moment, there are some really old type buildings. It’s a nice park to sit down to have a peace of mind.

Absolutely stunning garden! You might feel severely underdressed when entering the hotel, but don't be discouraged! The garden is open to visitors not staying at the hotel until 10pm, and no one seemed bothered that I wasn't dressed to the nines.

A hotel with over 400 years of history. They have a garden open to guests and visitors for free to stroll around and explore some nature right in the middle of Tokyo. The waterfall is one of their epic symbol however it was smaller than what it’s been depicted in media and TV shows. Don’t expect too much, but still a nice walk around from the busy Tokyo life. Very quite and massive carps in every pond around the garden. They also have night lights to spot the garden which seems spectacular in many of the pictures so would love to come visit again at night .

Exceptional archetype of a Japanese garden. Go at night when it's more serene. We visited this every day when staying at the hotel, a respite from busy Tokyo.

Very comfortable rooms, excellent staff and lovely breakfast. The Japanese Garden is a delight. Restaurants were pretty expensive, so we ate out, but those who did eat in said the food was very good. It's a very large hotel with many guests but still felt quite cosy. The views from our room on the 22nd floor were fantastic.

What a beautiful Japanese garden in the midst of concrete structures around it. In the heart of Tokyo, you can enjoy the beauty of this very well kept garden in Hotel New Otani. Mesmerizing waterfalls are the highlight of this garden, however its other sections are also very beautiful. Koi fish populate the ponds around the garden. Trees and rocks are placed beautifully.

Kinda awkward to get into and find where you're going, but maybe it was cause I went just after sunset but very pretty! I recommend stopping in and relaxing by the waterfall with the koi fish.

Gorgeous garden and a great spot for a relaxing walk in a busy area of the city. Some of the areas weren't kept that well and the water was dirty at the bottom of the waterfall which detracted from the experience. Overall, there's plenty to see and do and I would recommend coming here to anyone.

It's hard to believe that there is such a beautiful Japanese garden in the middle of this office building. The garden is in New Ohtani Hotel and is free to get in. It has a couple of luxurious restaurants sparsely in it and it even has a waterfall in the center of the garden. We came at night this time but I'm sure it's a good place if you go in the daytime. It is worth going once.

Some guides say the garden is only open to hotel guests, but we walked into the hotel and asked if we could see them. They said yes and pointed us in the right direction for the discreet staircase that leads to the garden. It's a lovely haven in central Tokyo.

Amazing bookstore, specialized in photography, fashion and design. From those giant Taschen books to vintage magazine and rare fanzines, they have a huge inventory. One of my favorite bookstores in Jinbocho.

Foreigner-friendly book store This is my favorite book store in Jimbocho: a great deal of books are in english, the photo/art/fashion/design selection is second to none, all at very reasonable prices. There are also lots of French fashion mags, and vintage UK such as i-d, The Face. Best of all is the permanent (and often changed) art displayed from top to bottom.. As buyer, I find them disorganised and/or disrespectful. A true mecca for photobook lovers. Such an impressive and big collection of out of print and first edition classics. Could have spend days here!

Not really all that much to see. It is in the middle of the city, where land is at a premium, but still.. it just feels like the vibe sorts misses the mark. Going to this shrine almost feels like doing your grocery shopping at a convenience store because you don't have the time to go to a proper supermarket. It's just not as satisfying. All that said, you can find some peace here if you work at it a bit.

this place came highly recommended for the best shrine in the city for 🥰😍👩‍❤️‍👨. fingers crossed ! easy to locate via google map and quick walk from the train station. i guess this is by far the most reasonably priced lucky charms and ema (¥600)

I visited the shrine for the first time. Due to the influence of the corona, there are not many people, but I was able to back quickly.I got a romance fortune and my feelings became easier. I also bought a lot of amulets. Tokyo Daijingu is famous for its love charm, so I definitely bought it. It's located near the station and there are many universities around. I hope you can get the peaceful morning there.

l have just visited this temple. lt was quite cold outside and they provide us hand warmers🙏🥰Thank you for the kind initiative. It was a compact temple. However, it is cosy and beautiful, I quite enjoyed it.

Did my Hatsumode here and there were so many Japanese who visited the shrine as well, it took me at least an hour queueing to get in. It is not as big as the major shrines were but clearly it is just as popular. Said to be one of the shrines you visit if your priority is success in romantic endeavors :)

Very nice Shinto shrine with fine architectural details situated in a busy yet quiet district. This shrine is said to bring upon good relations shops to its worshippers and attracted lots of young women looking for romance. The shrine looked exceptionally cute lit up at night. Beautiful shrine, I came through just after lunchtime to do a quick prayer, there was a good amount of people but not a long wait and had everything I expected in a shrine.

A very sleek, modern shrine. Place is popular for traditional weddings, which visitors may be swept up into accidentally. There's not a lot to do while there, but it's clean and picturesque.

Goshuin: YES Entry Fee: No Has a beautiful layout and had a few sakura trees nearby. Sadly, the vendor (young man) couldn't speak English at all which made the purchasing of charms difficult.

Very nice ambiente compared to other shrines. You go there to wish for luck in your relationship (or for a lucky relationship if you have none). They do sell lucky charms. However, here it's done with love and in a worthy way. The rest is "believe it or not"

We visited the July 7th for the Tanabata festival. Here is a quote about the history: “Tokyo Daijingu Shrine. Visitors write their wishes on colorful papers (Tanzaku) and then hang them on bamboo stalks at Tanabata festival. The annual celebration of Tanabata in Japan has been held since the Edo era. It celebrates the meeting of two lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi, according to legend Milky Way separates these lovers, and they may only meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month.”

The vibe is perfect for 七夕， you may make a wish there. Many pretty 御守for purchase, if you want to sign the book do arrive before 4:30pm This event have light up at nighttime

A beautiful shrine said to bring relationship and romance happiness to those that go to worship there. It is a very popular shrine with many visitors but very peaceful and with good and spacious seating for nice contemplation. I definitely recommend a visit!

I was much more interested in the building, architecture and surrounding grounds than the art exhibit that was on display. They were a great deal of traditional wood block prints, which were interesting, but all were very similar, and I just didn’t have the appreciation for that work. As I walked around the building and the grounds, I was very inspired by what I saw, and tried to take many photos to help remember the experience. It’s certainly worth the time and effort if you have an appreciation for this architecture and this gorgeous historic red brick building.

Very nice exhibit of impressionist art. Snapped a pic of this introduction to the exhibit and a staff worker tolde no photographs are allowed. Not even of the intro text, let alone the artworks. They're awfully strict about this here. The images below are just some shots from the exhibit flyer and a few postcards. The exhibit included works by Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cassatt, Sisley, Chagall, Cezanne and others. Good stuff!

This museum may not house some of the most comprehensive works of the impressionists or realist masters, but it does have enough of a representative set of works by Manet , Renoir , Van Gogh, and Picasso to make any art enthusiast appreciate this collection. Add to that, the art work is housed in a Victorian style building - something that is truly unique in Tokyo. I am tempted to take away a star for them not having English audio guides however their collection speaks for themselves....

I visited here in 2018 during the Les Mondes de Chaumet exhibition. The entire exhibits were extraordinarily stunning and tagged with well written explanation. The souvenirs are equally elegant too. My visit was a wonderful experience. Classic looking, tranquil ambience, well maintained museum located in quiet neighborhood.

Both inside and out, Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum is likely one the most stylish art museums in Tokyo, making it the perfect site for exhibitions exploring fashion and style, as well as culture. Designed by the British architect, Josiah Conder, the original Ichigokan was built in 1894, as the first office building in Japan. Though the original building was completely demolished, the building was painstakingly recreated to recapture its original charms, and reopened as Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum in 2010. To both celebrate and perhaps more importantly commemorate the era in which the building was originally l designed and constructed, Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum hosts a collection of late nineteenth century art, featuring works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Odilon Redon, and Félix Vallotton. The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum usually presents at least three major exhibitions a year, focusing on late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century modern art. Permanent don’t-miss features here include the interactive Archive Room—where you can learn more about the museum, the building, and the surrounding area—the museum shop, Store 1894, and the museum restaurant, Café 1894.

5 star review as enjoyed the exhibition but... it’s 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 expensive to get in! We are talking a cool 2K! 😳😳 So... it’s up to you and your wallet and just how important perusing artwork is to you... 😎

what's the point of a museum if it's going to be "temporarily closed"? great disservice to Tokyo visitors if a museum hoards art and then prevents viewing. artists do not create are for museums to lock up. very shameful.
