If you want a non-touristy temple to visit with a very nice over looking view of kyoto prefecture. Then, you must not missed out on this one. Just a train away via keihan line. Hands down, the BEST viewing spot for cherry blossom 🌸 in Kyoto, better than Philosopher’s Path IMHO. OMG, this place will blow you mind away. It’s a bit away from the main tourist area but totally worth the train ride. Get off at the nearest train station and walk along the busy street. It’s safe and has a wide sidewalk with crossing guards. You will also get a wonderful view of very expansive river. It only costs 100 yen per adult. There are lots of food trucks and ports-potty’s. It gets crowded now so either come early or later to avoid the crowd.

been there 2 apr 2019 and the sakura not full blossomed. that being said, i highly recommend this spot coz it’s spacious for everyone! the 1300m-ish long sakura tree tunnel means you don’t have to fight or wait for a particular sakura tree. take the train to yawatashi station and follow the crowd to cross the bridge. you can prepare a floor mat for picnic after snapping 1000 shots. there are small food booths, toilets and a smoking tent (could be only during the sakura season, check before you go!)

So you can change track in between to watch sakura from different sides. All have endless sakura scene. Good place for relaxed walk, picnic and photo taking. Though today is weekday, good weather attracts a lot of people to come for sakura watching. Many pop up stalls to sell food and drinks. Or you can buy bento after you exit the train station.

It is quite unique with the different faces of the stone statutes, my favorite part. They offer free parking although limited and a red stamp is available for your goshuin book.

This is an amazing temple and quite cheap to visit, I think it was less than ¥500 per person, it is quite small and contained, but the level of detail from all of the statues, really makes it worth the visit, it's a bit of a trek from the train station, but on a nice day makes for a great end point. There are building that's you can enter, which require you to remove your shoes, but it all feels calm. You can also pay a gratituity to ring the bells. Great to walk around and will make for some amazing photo opportunities with all the styles of statues.

Toji temple is a gem in Kyoto without the crazy crowds of other spots, with the exception of the current night light show going on - not to be missed through mid April if you are here. For extra entrance fee, the night display is amazing especially with the sakura in full bloom currently. Visited here on April 4 both during day and at night. Highly recommend a visit!

The Golden hall (the main one) and lecture hall are massive buildings with many great Buddha wooden statues. Those statues are very impressive in size and details. Make sure to grab the brief guide at the entrance cause there are not many informative panels written in English. The pagoda, all wood made and original from '600 is quite impressive. You can only walk around it, there's no entrance of such. It costs 500¥ for the pagoda and the halls, 800¥ with the admissions to the housing complex (same area).

What a place!! Well worth the 500 yen entrance fee to walk round the gardens and see the pagoda, look out for an INCREDIBLE photo spot by the pond.

However, there's more to see with two halls housing large altars whereupon sit grand Buddhist statues that are quite a spectacle in themselves. Unfortunately, it's not so convenient to sit to admire or meditate, nor can you take photos at the altars, so you tend to go inside the two halls relatively briefly. The temple also has some gardens that make a nice enough stroll through, but there are better gardens at other famous attractions. The temple grounds don't seem to get particularly busy, but if you're in the area and are interested in tall pagodas and grand altars, then it's well worth a visit. You can grab the Toji temple only ticket or the combined ticket, which gets you entry to two nearby attractions, Homotsukan museum and Shoshibo temple.

One of the oldest Buddhist Temples and Pagoda in Kyoto. I should of visited at night because lights shine on all the buildings creating a captivating glow. It was founded in the 796 century and one of only three Buddhist Temples allowed in the city which was the capital at the time. This place feels very old and as soon as you walk into one of the buildings it seems like you used a time machine to travel back to the 8th century. Stop by and take some night shots you won't be disappointed.
