Really neat place! Small gift shop. Limited seating in the station, so if you require to sit frequently you may need to arrive early. The train ride itself is very cool and nostalgic as it is a steam engine. Our particular train ride had light snow, but a heavy snow the night before. So the scenery looked absolutely astounding. They serve refreshments and food. But also encourage you to bring your own. Masks are required however people wearing them may be hit or miss.

We went way out of our way to add this train trip to our itinerary. I paddled the Upper Animas in 2001 and knew how beautiful this trip is. I slept on tickets so we ended up doing the Cascade Canyon trip in a gondola car (the only way to go, IMO). It turned out great! It was amazingly beautiful and I enjoyed our hour long excursion by the river much more than I would have spending three hours in Silverton. YMMV. Conductors were friendly, knowledgeable and very informative. Allow time to visit the museum on-site in Durango. It is packed with cool stuff. Absolutely buy tickets in advance for weekends in the busy season.

Fun train ride, we did the train both directions, I would say only go one direction! And take the bus back. It's 3 1/2 hours each way, beautiful views of the river gorge and river and mountains

Our family had the opportunity to ride the train on the Cascade Canyon Excursion while we were there for Labor Day! All I can say really is WOW!! We had debated if we thought it would be worth the cost when we were planning the trip out to Durango and it definitely was! We chose the open air gondola and it was super nice. Being able to take in the fresh air was great! We had read elsewhere to pack layers for warmth and we likely overpacked to make sure we didn’t freeze! Having blankets, hats, jackets, and such was great for the first part of the morning. We were able to see the view from both sides, because the train turns around, which was super nice. The views were incredible!! The stop in Cascade Canyon was very nice as well! Best suggestion would be to bring lunch! The snack/food car often had long lines which took away from your ability to sit and enjoy! We were glad we’d packed our lunch! The 5 hour train ride was perfect for our family. We had two babies with us and they did great, but we’re definitely done by the end of the day. I would totally recommend this trip to anyone and especially those with kiddos!!

I can't say anything bad about this trip. We booked a seat in the coach car (enclosed) which was probably for the best because it rained at times and we were sitting pretty inside while others on the open air cars were getting soaked. If you have an entire day to devote to this tour, do it.

We took the train from Durango to Silverton and back. What an amazing experience. A must for anyone traveling to Durango. If I had any complaints is that the stop at Silverton felt a bit short. The two hours there seem to have flown by. But the views, during the entire ride were beautiful. The train rides alongside the Animas river the entire way, which makes for some picturesque views. We already can’t wait to do it again.

LOVED IT Had first class seats and the last car in the train. We were able to go outside to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. Issac was a great attendant. Price for alcoholic drinks were very reasonable. Amazing ride to and from.

The bus ride up to Silverton and Steam Train ride back to Durango was absolutely awesome. We got to see the scenery from the road and the train. Amazing staff working there. I enjoyed the experience. This whole experience was worth every penny. I cannot stress how much fun this was. If you are traveling or you are a local you have to go. The scenery is unreal.

Beautiful scenery, great hosts aboard the train, very informative conversations with the tour guides on the train. The price was more than expected but enjoyed the ride. It was fun to be able to ride on a narrow rail road that was old and pretty much original. We reserved on line and did have to wait.

Great family adventure. Friendly staff and splendid sights. We will be back to take the Durango to Silverton trip. Don't forget to visit the museum at the end of the train ride. The model trains in there were really awesome to say the least. The creator payed attention to detail. We bought our tickets online. No waiting in line. We arrived, parked and walked right over to the train.

We had a blast! The train was perfect, the weather was exactly what we hoped it'd be like, and the staff were awesome, too. Silverton citizens treated us like family and we highly recommend Lone Spur Cafe. Live piano music and delicious food.

This is a super cool way to see some of the best views in colorado. The steam engine was really cool. The trip is long but very fun. We had so much fun. The time in Silverton is short but you can see the town and get lunch. You do have an option to ride the bus back which can save time.

Really enjoyed this. It’s a long day to take the train ride up and back in one day. I would recommend taking the train up and staying the night and coming back the next day or taking a bus back instead of train.If you do take it on the way up, sit on the right side train on the way up and left side on the way down if going one way. But the train ride had some amazing views.

I love everything about the NGR. The employees are wonderful on both ends. I recommend a first class car so you have a train host that can point out all of the points of interest to you along the way including photo ops. This time i rode one way in first class and back on coach. Both fun but glad i had the host for the first leg of the trip. scenery is beautiful no matter where you look! I've done this ride 3 times now. once 45 years ago, once 30 years ago and again this week. Its consistent and always a joy. Recommend buying tickets as far in advance as possible.

Our Group rode the Durango-Silverton Railroad from Silverton to Durango. We were scheduled to board between 1:30 and 2 p.m. for the approximately three-and-a-half-hour ride to Durango. We were in an enclosed car with windows that could be raised depending on the weather. There were other types of car available including open air cars with a roof. I would recommend these if the weather were warm and no chance of rain. However, in cooler temperatures the enclosed cars would be your best option. Our Trip from Silverton to Durango was not sold out so we were free to move about the train and enjoy the scenery from other cars. There are snacks and beverages available for an additional charge. Keep in mind that this is a three-and-a-half-hour journey with no stops, other than one brief stop for water if you are travelling on the steam train. The trains’ top speed on the journey is about 22 miles per hour and only averages about 15 miles per hour for the entire journey. There were several small children on the journey that became bored and somewhat unruly. The length of time on the train should be considered when travelling with small children. The scenery along the route is amazing and the conductors and staff very informative about the sights that you are seeing along the way. The only drawback was the loud and unruly children. Other than that, the train ride itself was very nice and the scenery was magnificent.

What a magical experience with the glittery snow falling. We saw a bald eagle perched atop a dead tree and we're delighted there were no children in our car! The Alamosa cart in the Caboose was the best and we got to step out into the back and watch the train tracks go by. Can't wait to go back in the summer to get a new perspective! I wish I could remember the name of our hostess. She was absolutely incredible and a retired geologist with lots of fun facts to share. She also made us a very special mocha beverage that was delicious. The free museum was so delightful and I really enjoyed the Taxidermy as well. Especially getting to see all of the Taxidermy birds that usually never sit still long enough for you to look at them. There is a haunted cart in the museum and I went inside and felt nauseous for an hour after being in there. Very creepy!

Definitely worth doing. Beautiful scenery. The day I went they were still on the winter schedule which only went to Cascade Canyon, but you have great scenery the whole trip. Don't worry about which side of the train to get your seat, they turn the whole train around at the wye at Cascade Canyon. Pack a lunch, you have about an hour to eat at picnic tables, check the train out up close or do a little hiking. The train sounds 4 long whistle bursts 10 minutes before heading back to Durango.

This is a "bucket list" level activity for me and my family. My kids were happy and enjoyed it thoroughly. We did a polar express and cascade canyon trip week after Christmas (first time for the 2 younger ones). My kids smiles and compliments say all I need to hear. My oldest (son) is almost "to cool" to enjoy things like this, but he was very happy and just enjoying our time. My second oldest (my daughter) was happy and enjoyed things I didn't expect her to. The two younger boys were much easier to please, although the attention span is much shorter. This experience is a super reasonable cost for the return. I like to call this type of experience "organic" because nothing is manufactured it's just the same as when people first experienced a train ride 100 years ago. You can go on your first or 100th train ride and still be mesmerized. If in Durango or anywhere else, it's a sure thing.

I have taken this train 4 times in my life and planned my honeymoon to include a ride. We chose fall to see the amazing fall colors from an absolutely incredible vantage point. I simply love this train, the town and entire area. I can not rave enough about what a magical place and experience this train and area are. The bus ride was enjoyable to due to the friendly, funny and informative driver. We had an amazing lunch in Silverton and made some new friends who also were taking the train back. It’s absolutely amazing!!! Just FYI. After our Honeymoon we brought her kids and Parents back at Thanksgiving to see the Polar Express! Highly Highly recommend this train any and all times of the year.

It's fun for the first few minutes, until you realize you're spending half of the trip traveling through town to get to the mountains and back to the station. Some views were pretty, nothing we can't see at places we camp. Luckily, our car had a good group of people so it wasn't loud, and people were considerate of others unlike the other cars. The seats were OK, got uncomfortable towards the end. The restrooms were pretty clean. The concession options weren't bad. Pretty standard menu; sodas, coffee, hot chocolate, cider, options for alcohol (beer and cocktails), buttered popcorn, chips, candy, hot dog. Customer service was awful and unorganized. The stop in Cascade Canyon was exactly like another reviewer said, a random picnic area by the river. Nothing special. I'm glad we experienced it, but I would never ride again. I couldn't imagine how long and frankly, boring, especially for children, it would be, going the entire way to Silverton and back, and paying that price 🤷🏻‍♀️ lots of people napping on the way back.

We went on this not knowing what to expect and it was spectacular. Going in the depth of winter, we got up close and personal views of the mountains no one except crazy mountain climbers may ever get to see. As good as the pics on the website look, they really don't do it justice. Have included a few on here to try and give you a sense of the terrain you are looking for. Best part, you do it in old railroading comfort and style, as fancy as you like it with hot drinks and refreshments available. Would def recommend again

This place is out of business. It's currently being remodeled into studio apartments. We're doing a level 3 drywall patch job on them. River Roost will be the new name. Approximately 112 units.

Very disappointed considering the money you pay for these rooms. They need updating and maintenance badly. Rooms smell very old and musty. Hair dryer sparked and smoked when I tried to use. Plugs were are all old and loose wouldn't hold chargers in the socket. Gross stains on the carpet, no exhaust fan in the bathroom, the light switch for the bathroom had to be held and wiggled to stay on. The AC made a awful mildew smell in the room. We stayed 5 days and had cleaners come in mid week, they didn't changed out sheets and upon getting into bed didn't even make it just threw comforter up. Didn't replenish TP, Coffee, ice bucket liner or soap. When I found one to ask, she was eating her lunch in one of the rooms she was cleaning. This hotel has a great location and nice amenities, it's a shame it could be so nice. The pool could be really nice too, but they have all of the sliders in the room blocked so you can't open them, and the knob for the jets on the spa was broken off. Also, don't be fooled into paying river front view for 70 dollars more, you'll have cars and trees blocking your view. It's not really a river view. Front desk receptionist was very nice.

Stained carpet, bathroom door hits the toilet seat so you have to lift it to open/close the door. When we got back to our room after the Silverton train ride we found the door wasn't closed after the room was serviced. Fortunately nothing was missing. The ice machine on the ground floor wasn't working. We cut our stay short because it was so frustrating. The location is great but not worth staying here again.

Location - easy two block walk to middle of historic downtown. Staff - very accommodating and pleasant. Room - clean nice beds, prefer the courtyard view, river view is across motel parking lot. Other - laundry on site, pool good for little kids, nice courtyard with tables and benches. Would stay again.

Place was decent. Hot tub was great. Pool was way too cold!!! For an indoor pool I felt it should have been heated. Andrew, I believe his name was, was the best at the front counter! Very personable, knew his way around town and gave us great advice. Also got us more coffee for our room. 😘

The room is basic. It's old, no fridge, no microwave, feels damp, tub didn't drain well. That being said, the room was clean and the AC worked. It's super dog friendly as I saw several grassy areas for dogs to go potty and socialize. It's connected to an Applebee's. There a great walking path behind the hotel with views of the river and more grassy areas. Best part of the hotel is its location. Just a few minutes' walk to downtown restaurants, shops, the sky steps, and the Durango train. It was really awesome being so close to downtown and leaving the car in its parking spot the whole weekend.

Convenient location along the river and the river trail. Connected to an Applebee's for convenient eats. The room was simple but clean. The green areas between buildings were beautifully landscaped and maintained. The pool and hot tub were clean. Tim in maintenance helped us get quarters for laundry. He was so kind.

We stayed here 2 years ago. Its definitely not a five star. Its in real need of updates in the rooms! And refrigerators! But if you get a room in back, on the river...its Lovely! The rooms are clean, comfortable and don't smell! 👍

Nice! The location is so convenient. The room is clean, no fridge though, we didn't need one. I love hearing the train across the way. There is an Applebee's in the same lot, gas station across the street and a kroger too! Great great

The location was not worth the poor quality of the rooms or the terrible service from staff. We we’re told that one of our two rooms booked through Bookings.com could not be found in their system. They checked us in using one room from our reservation and then gave us another without telling us that the price would be different from our reservation. The next day we received a bill from booking.com that included a no-show charge, and a charge almost double the price as our reservation for the second room. When we brought this to the front desks attention they just kept saying it was booking.com mistake and they couldn’t do anything. However, they were able to go into their system and find the reservation for the second room a day later. The staff never took any responsibility for not checking their system throughly and we ended up with a bill significantly higher then what we had reserved. And this doesn’t even include how we had to get our room switched because the first one smelt strongly of animal urine! Incompetent and unprofessional front desk staff who have no concept of customer service, plus dingy and urine smelling rooms.

We love Purgatory! The staff are family friendly, helpful and informative. The skiing is top notch! The beauty of the mountain is breath taking! If you have the opportunity to come to Purgatory take it! You will become a yearly visitor or in our case a future property owner! All resort amenities are within walking distance. Once there you don't have to leave unless you want to. The accommodations will not disappoint.

Took the family there for the summer activities. The roller coaster was down and they actually cared enough to give us a partial refund. People were so nice! It was a great tune. If your a Dad be careful you don't go too fast down the alpine slide. Road rash stinks

This place was my second time snowboarding 🏂 It was very intense I do not recommend it for new snowboarders. However if you can make it the view on the lift is amazing. The course was really nice especially the park.

The place is beautiful but when my friend had to go to the ER I had to cancel the tickets as I wasn’t available to use them. When I called the first time they canceled everything over the phone and all was fine. But the second time I called to cancel my personal ticket I got told that isn’t how they cancel or refund tickets??? Then when I told the woman over the phone what was going on she said “Ok I get that but, this isn’t our policy and that isn’t possible.” TERRIBLE workers and people all around the area. 0/10 and would NEVER recommend family or future friends to ever show their faces there.

Great area to ski. Scenery is absolutely amazing and beautiful. Runs were great. Knowing where to pick up your pass and where to go after you park your vehicle should be marked better. Food is way overpriced. 50 dollars for two hamburgers with chips is way overpriced no matter where you are.

I love this place so much. My husband and I went skiing for one day and I was amazed by this beautiful place and lovely people. It was my first time skiing so I got a ski lesson the first day and I was so fortunate to have Mel as my ski instructor. She was so patience and easy to work with. I would fall several times and she would come and help me. I spent half of my day with Mel and it was worth it. She is a big motivator. Keep it up girl. Thank you so much for your help Mel.

We had a great time on the snowmobile tour. Great trail into the forest. Fantastic guide and additional staff. Stopped at several places for pictures and even had a stop at the end where it was wide open and people could “zoom” around. Good equipment, great scenery and even better staff. Highly recommend

As a family, we came here to play today. Adults and kids alike rode the roller coaster and sleds. The rest of us enjoyed the scenery and beers and food. Our only complaint was that the tables could have used some umbrellas for shade. Fast service on hot food. Bathrooms were clean.

We took our grandkids for a day trip alpine slide was the most fun, coaster was a nice addition. Going back this weekend to try out the carts. Pizza at Paradise was excellent!

I booked room which had problems. Management realized and immediately upgraded room for the same amount. Outstanding people, location, clean... it was pleasure staying on these resorts for a week. Perfect stay for the family with kids.

Room is a little smaller space than expected (even with only 2 adults and an infant) but worked for what we needed. Our room had a kitchenette and lots of kitchen utensils stocked. Very nice view from our room! Lots of options for food and activities on-site.

We go during the summer for a fun-filled day with the kids. Check out the calendar to go on a "double" day which allows you to go on the Alpine sled and Alpine roller coaster twice. I recommend going in the mornings because of potential afternoon showers. The three-and-a-half-hour window will go by fast so get there early and knock the rides out before doing the rock pan handling and go cart dune buggies. Don't forget to take the lift on the left for a beautiful scenic ride up the mountain.

Fantastic family ski resort with significant terrain options. We are wrapping up our fourth season of skiing/riding Purg as our home mountain and I have no regrets for the decision we made in 2020. In fact, each year gets better.

I've been going to Purg for about 30 yrs. Parking kinda blows if you want to use your car as a hub for lunch etc. Great family mountain. Nice intermediate runs with great rollers that are always a blast for everyone. Some nice bumps off of chair 8. Enjoy!

We had a great trip skiing and snowboarding. For the most part the mountain staff was helpful, and the snow was great. Very expensive, not sure how people can afford ski trips anymore, really appreciate the fact 12 and under ski and board free. Would recommend visiting and shredding the mountain!

We went to Purgatory during the summer to experience the rides and ski town. It turned out that most of their stores were closed and the price to buy ride tickets were $59+ per person. We were expecting to buy tickets for the alpine slide, but we couldn’t buy individual tickets and could only ride one time with the expensive package deal. We ended up leaving after 20 mins. If you want to go to a ski resort during the summer, go somewhere else.

We arrived during the early morning here with no problems. The room is a airbnb. The owner was able to give a lot information about location. We wish she should of list other adventures this condo resort includes. We did the utv's up the mountain and the other activities in this resort. They do open around 9am and close early around 6pm, restaurants around 9pm. We will come back soon!!

Would love to see it ‘in season’! Had some plumbing and communication issues with the unit (stay’s number of days, checkout time, water pressure, bathroom dry-wall damage) requiring multiple trips back and forth to main lodge. Boyce was a very nice wedding ‘stage’ and the shuttles to/from Main Lodge was a premium perk; Purgy’s™️ did a nice job with Tuesday night’s festivities!!

Beautiful scenery. Our check-in process was horrible. We waited for an extended period of time with no one at the front desk. They changed the rooms we picked that had a view of the mountains to a room with no view. Then they sent us to a room with people already in it. It finally got straightened out after close to two hours. Not what you want after a long road trip. The room was small but nice.

We stayed in one of the East Rim units, and getting to the lifts couldn't have been easier! We booked early enough to get adult tickets under $50 a day- you can't beat that! Variable pricing is amazing for those that buy early!!! Our party had two that took youth lessons (7-12yo) and two that took adult lessons, and they all enjoyed it. I miss the Relive Your Lesson emails I got last year though! Possible improvements: Service Lift 3. It stalled many times on our last day, indicating it needs a little TLC. Add more signs on the mountain so it is easier to find certain runs. Keep shops open later (Purgatory Sports had doors locked before 5 on a Friday afternoon)

We’ve been coming to Purgatory for years. Our kids learned how to ski on this mountain even though we live at a ski area in NM. Great staff! They are friendly and happy to see you. Lifts and facilities are always well kept. We return yearly for skiing and enjoying the area. One draw back: spring skiing brings warmer temps and LOTS of mud in the parking lots. Management would do well to spend some money on gravel during this time to minimize the mud mess that’s all over your boots, your vehicle, etc. Also, we always pack lunch instead of eating at Purgys. The food is really overpriced and pretty sub-par. I get it though-tourist trap. Other than that-we absolutely love Purgatory and will continue to return.

We took a family ski trip to Purgatory for the first time this year. It was recommend to me by a colleague of mine. We were impressed with the whole experience and will be back for more. If staying at the resort everything is extremely accessible and so easy to navigate. What a wonderful experience!

I just went here to ski not stay in a room. I have gone for 2 years now. The slopes are fun with many options. The tree routes for beginners are fun and manageable. The lifts are comfortable. Staff is friendly, food is good.

We really wanted to like this place . Everyone was really friendly from employees to guests. Fairly good sized mountain with decent runs but a lot of flats . We stayed at the Peregrine condos which was excellent. The Village had a decent pretty good Pizza Place but that’s it when it came to restaurants. Purgys needs help in every way and the Village as a whole needs help. All in all we could not recommend as a destination

I didn't stay on site, but the onsite lodging looked humble, maintained, and located nicely to the lifts. It is a skiers' area and not a place with a lot of local entertainment for the non-skier part of your family. We had fresh powder every day I was there. Almost too much powder (Am I allowed to say that?) Great and unique runs across the entire area. Quality lifts that didn't require a whole army of employees to manage them. I was on a chair within just a few minutes each time I arrived at any of them. Mid-February 2024.

I wouldn't recommend this place if you're learning how to ski or snowboard. I don't think it's a great place to learn. The runs aren't insane, but I wouldn't want to teach someone on them. I wouldn't recommend if you're extremely well off and looking for the Ritz Carlton experience. If you're an average skier / snowboarder and looking for a low-key mountain that's affordable, not crowded, beautiful, and has great vibes, this is it.

I skied at Purgatory for three days. Willy P local since 1995 and MC P just bought my home hill. Purg is a fun place! Great terrain and well-managed. Would be nice to add some approved RV parking for those of us on a skiing road trip to all the MCP ski hill.

We did the snowcat. Awesome experience. It is private tour. You get to enjoy the view and snow alone with your party. Hot chocolate was served while up in the mountains. They take you to a perfect view. We also bought a snow sled at the toy store and enjoyed the little hill up the stairs. Great place to have some fun.

12/2021 They have a big sign by the highway that says "national forest information". Don't believe it. In my experience most forest service employees are friendly, helpful folks. Not here. The person I spoke with was without a doubt the rudest and most unhelpful person I have spoken with in recent memory. Must have been in a hurry for lunchtime to roll around or maybe she had gas pains, but she clearly didn't have any time or any inclination to help me. This place is not meant for interaction with the public - it seems to be an office for their own business and they obviously don't want to be bothered by pesky citizens and their questions. Don't waste your time, keep your happy disposition, and just drive right on by.

We had better success than some of the other reviewers. Though we had to wait and wait and then wait some more. We we able to get the maps we needed and advice on USFS road conditions. To the lady staff person who helped us: you were so right about the back roads in the Silverton area. We made it through but they were very rough even for our AWD and we managed to cause a brake line to fail! We visited September 20th 2021.

Talked to the nicest woman who gave us maps and tons of information about dispersed sites. Also had cute stuff for our kids. When my sister came into town I sent her here for all her questions.

I didn't blame the forest service when firewood permits couldn't be issued thanks to Trump and company, but now that they're sending chainsaws into wilderness areas, you wonder what the people in charge here are even for. It's a wilderness area for a reason. We have plenty of trees they can go in and cut down in non-wilderness areas and team up with their BLM buddies east of town to drill for oil, leave the wilderness areas alone. Whoever made this decision should be ashamed and move back to Ohio where they can trash nature all they want.

Super helpful! Was able to give us great advice on what roads were open. We come to Durango almost every summer. We always stop by for maps and information.

Beautiful river. Depending on what part of the river you are visiting, there are paid and free camping, 4wd trails, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing. Pretty much the typical things that are associated with rivers, however the beautiful location makes the Animas a particularly special river.

I went to Durango Colorado for a 3 day vacation at the end of October. The Animas River is beautiful! These pictures were taken on a train ride up to Silverton Colorado. If you can, take the train, you will get more amazing shots like this.

Beautiful river running through town. Anywhere and everywhere, an opportunity to observe, utilize, and enjoy. Floating, fishing, listening, something to suit your needs. What a lucky town to have this attraction. Recommend that you find your use.

James Ranch is a staple in our home. We are a part of the raw milk herd-share, and my kids and dog love to tag along for dinner when we pick up our milk. Not only is the raw milk a daily favorite in our household, we enjoy the high-quality ingredients and family-centric atmosphere. I have enjoyed purchasing James Ranch's cheeses from local distributors for years, and since becoming a mom, I am grateful to be able to take my children to the Ranch for a kid-friendly dining experience and delicious treats (they love the lemonade and cream bean berry ice cream).

The restaurant is delicious and kind of pricey. We ate here multiple times and were never disappointed. Staff is friendly and works hard. Beautiful spot for lunch or dinner! Something for everyone - the younger ones can pet the goats and play in the nicely kept yard; the older ones can enjoy live music on the weekends or sit inside.

We come here everytime we're in Durago. Great spot with good food. Restaurt part of the building is beautiful and roomy with places to also sit outdoors. Store attached is cute and small but carries so many wonderful items including different fresh packed meats to take home and cook. They even have prepacked ready made food that you can heat up or throw in the oven like soups, empanadas, cinnamon rolls and pot pies (just to name a few). I liked that they also carried different spices and dairy products. Everything is so fresh. If your ever in Durango I recommend giving this place a try. We have been coming here since it started as a food truck. Not only will you enjoy the food, but the views are beautiful too.

Incredible burgers and fries. Almost everything is home-made and you can absolutely tell. Staff were also very pleasant and kind. Will definitely return! Make sure to walk around the farm and learn about the work they do!

ME and my wife love to drive around and find the smaller places. Well let me tell you about this place . WOW from the 1 st person to the last everyone loves there jobs and I see why the burger was awesome the fries were out of this world. We have drove bye so many times you were closed we are so glad we got to try your place 10 star all the way .

Lots of cool and unique things to look at and/or buy for tourists like me and my family. Friendly folks. Clean and sanitary looking. Reasonable prices. Beautiful setting. Plenty of parking.

The market was amazing. The buy and bake cinnamon rolls for breakfast the next morning were phenomenal. Ate at the restaurant for supper. The Signature Burger and Fingerling Fries were recommended, worth every bite. I had the J/R Patty Melt, so delicious. This was our 32nd wedding anniversary meal, we were also treated to live music. Also indulged in the house made hard ciders, again,, were not disappointed. We also did the self-tour and enjoyed the walk of the property. The James' have it figured out. Anyone going through Durango should do a fly by and stay a few. It is off Hyw 550.

Amazing place to grab lunch - great view, delicious food - with various healthy options for both vegetarians and omnivores, and a great little shop to pick up some gourmet options for at home. Really enjoyed my visit!

AMAZING! If you’re visiting Durango or driving up to Purgatory, this is a MUST stop. The food at the restaurant is all fresh and tastes amazing. There’s picnic tables to sit at outside or you can sit inside. The market next door also sells their meat and seasonal crops as well as other products! Everything is so fresh and so delicious!

We had a wedding rehearsal dinner at James Ranch in June of 2023. I can’t say enough good about our experience. Everything from when we walked in till when we left we top notch!! There was 2 ladies taking drink orders and the scenery is just beautiful! Our guests said that those were the best burgers that they had ever eaten!! Love this place!!!

A wonderful place to see what a fish hatchery is and learn about the wildlife in the area. A nice stroll across the bridge is also a great way to see the river. Definitely worth stopping in. A note to remember is it along the river and you have to look for the driveway into the museum as it is not clearly marked.

This is a must stop in Durango. Don't forget to bring quarters so you can feed the fish.

For a small museum it had a lot of good stuff. It was very informative and the two guides there knew so much and helped make it fun for the kids too. Who knew that elk had ivory?

The museum is still closed to the public (possibly opening Fall 2021)but the fish hatchery is open and the raceways are full of trout! One of my favorite go-to's for a quick nature activity with the kids. Be sure to bring some quarters and feed the fish.

Lovely little Nature center AND fish hatchery with opportunities to feed the baby trout (hard to explain how cool this was, it was actually a really neat experience if you're into these type of things). As of July 2022, the museum was open to the public. We had a great time feeding the baby trout at the hatchery and then enjoying the displays at the museum. The museum is quite petite, maybe think more "nature center" than full scale natural history museum? The staff are super friendly, can exchange dollar bills for quarters and also have sandwich bags to help coral the fish food! (You can also bring little baggies or little containers to help collect fish food b/c the machines dispense a LOT at one time... hard for little hands to collect). My kids REALLY liked the museum and their hands on activities! VERY SUN EXPOSED - bring hats, sunscreen, etc and lots of water. The riverside sites just next door are a great way to cool off and have a picnic!

A small museum with some cool animal mounts (my personal favorite was the golden eagle). The staff was friendly and helpful. The adjacent fish hatchery was a cool experience even though all you get to see are the raceways. When we were there, you could see the fish jumping and trying to swim "upstream."

This place may seem tacky and not as much in a big scale of things to see, but however there's much to learn in Durango in general. Just visiting here makes you feel like you time traveled in the past. There are 15 Acres of land here and there's much to learn.

Very cool place to stop in for a few minutes. They have a bunch of really cool taxidermy animals that are great to look at. They also have a nice little video about the fish hatchery. The staff was super nice and friendly. The museum is free so if you find yourself in the area I’d recommend checking it out.

It's such a cute place and you can get little coupons! It's dog friendly and also has an area where kids can color. The bathrooms are super clean thank goodness! Overall just a cute place!

If your new to town or vacationing, this is a great place to begin. First of all, they have a public restroom (sometime with a bit of a line so be prepared). Most importantly, there is a pamphlet for every available activity in the town as well as surrounding communities. If your not sure where to go, make a pit stop here 1st and see all your options.

Giving 4 stars because the ladies working in the visitor center never acknowledged me or my wife the last two days that we have been here. They are helpful once you talk to them but don’t go out of their way. Durango is a cool town, stop by and check it out sometime. 👍

This “welcome” center should be renamed info center bc we were there over 3 times and not ONCE were we spoken to even when we greeted the angry rude women “working” there. The only bonus was clean bathrooms. These women should remember if tourist didn’t come to the area Durango wouldn’t even be what it is today. Pitiful.

The lady at the counter was very friendly. Even with her special English accent... 😉

It’s so terrific to have a judgement free place to use the bathroom. One of the toughest things about main before was you’re out doing a big shop and no one has public restrooms… or you get side eye for using a bathroom without purchasing anything. They keep everything so tidy and the staff is always friendly. They have tons of pamphlets and info for what to do around town too.

We visited the center looking for guidance and were very happy we did. Renee welcomed us and provided extraordinarily detailed information to help us during our visit. She is a wealth of information and it is obvious she truly enjoys sharing her knowledge. Thanks Renee, we are now prepaired to explore!

We stopped in to get tour tickets for the next day for Mesa Verde and ended up exploring the whole place for more ideas about what to do while in Durango. The displays are beautiful and have information on everything you need to know to visit Durango and the area. From restaurants, to breweries, to outdoor activities and shopping, it's all here. Super friendly staff, too, and a nice little selection of Mesa Verde merchandise as well.

Very helpful and kind staff helped us make the most of our short visit; maps, pet friendly restaurants, trail access with free parking, clean and well organized, filtered H2O, treated our dogs.

There are clean restrooms and lots of literature and information. The lady behind the desk did not even acknowledge us or offer any information. Very different from Pagosa Springs visitors center.

Don't bother going here if you're looking for a friendly greeting or useful information. The older woman with short hair was putting on a facade of working inside. She immediately seemed annoyed that we walked in. We asked about what museums were open and she recommended the Powerhouse Science Musuem. (Were mid 30s mot 5 year olds) but she informed us it was very much for all ages and a great place for adults. She gave us directions and we decided to give it a shot. The directions sent us in the complete opposite way (thankful for Google maps before this lady directed us right into the river) but the best part is when we arrived to the science center, we walked into a building that had two kids under 5 leaving with the parents. The place was clearly made for little children and we looked like creepy adults walking jn by ourselves. We took one look abd b-lined it out of there. To the lady at the Welcome Center, you are worthless!

This is a cool little roadside attraction. I definitely recommend checking it out if your in the area, but don’t drive out of your way for it. I spent roughly 15 mins there, but this was the first time I’ve seen something like it! Wouldn’t recommend swimming in the man-made pool because of runoff from the road and legality of it. Overall it’s a great location to explore. 5/5 ⭐️

What a unique and beautiful natural structure right off the side of the highway. We actually drove right past it and wondered what it was, googled it and turned around to stop and have a closer look! It was under 30° out so you could really see the steam coming up off of the hot springs. There's a plaque with information and it's honestly just a cool experience to stop and see this cool spot. We really enjoyed checking it out!

Awesome little hot springs right off the road. If you are headed there from Durango and using Google maps go about 1000 feet more than it says. It's right off the road and you can't miss it. Maps will tell you to turn right into a neighborhood street that's a dead end.

Wow! Lots of history and geology with this place. The colors were amazing and you could walk right up to the formation. The 4-stars because it’s very close to a noisy highway and it was not really a place to soak. I did dip in a toe and found the water to be nice and warm. We visited on a weekday in July and it was not busy. I was surprised to discover this hot springs had been moved, but it did allow us to park our rv right along the hwy! Very nice visit!

It's not everyday you see a hot spring located this close to the road. You pull off onto the highway shoulder and there's a small parking area but the spring is literally right there. There were such great colors from the red rock to cloudy pools of water. Be very careful because the area around the spring is wet, smooth and slippery. If you can make an extra 5 minutes on your trip through here, it's worth the effort.

Fun roadside attraction for about ten minutes unless you want to take a dip, but this isn't filtrated like some spots and would not recommend. Beautiful "natural" site with some history but very muddy, wear boots.

Pretty neat little road side thing to see. We accidentally went down the wrong road to the old "resort" that's been turned into a boarding house. Was hoping there was some sort of pool we could wade in but the springs just run off and it was raining when we were there so couldn't really investigate. Still neat to see though

You have to make a quick stop. It's so cool to see this beauty right off the highway.

This is a nice little spot to stop on your way to somewhere else, but I absolutely would not go out of the way for it. This is a free thing to see, and there's a little parking area on the side of the road for it. It's open 24/7 so no need to worry about getting there at a certain time. You can bring your dog here, but be very careful around the springs area - and I would absolutely not let your dog drink the water.

Cool to see. It was muddy to walk around, the water is warm not hot like the Hot Springs in Pagosa. But if you are driving on 550 in the area at stop and take a look.

Very rude woman at the front desk Took my son to a birthday party where kids and parents were covered for admission. I went to the car to grab my sons goggles he forgot and was hassled by one woman upon re entering trying to make me pay even though I told her I had already been in, and was covered with the literal birthday party happening right in front of her eyes. The rest of the time spent there she gave us annoying looks and smirks. Older woman. Short blonde/grey hair who clearly has no idea what she’s doing. Our friends birthday party was great though and the kids love the pool.

This place gets ZERO stars from me. Absolutely all they care about is money. Parents can’t go in with your kids unless you pay as well. Even if your not swimming. Can’t even watch them through the glass because there are no chairs and they won’t bring you one. Way to help out parents on a budget trying to get their kids out and active 👏

Great community rec Center with all the fixins'. Amazing views of Durango from the treadmills! If they had at least one extra set of dumb bells I would add the fifth star, but sadly, even when it's not too crowded, there is frequently a bit of waiting at the weight rack. The amount of free classes offered makes the membership worth it, but the facility has something for everyone - indoor track, free weights, weight machines, cardio machines (bikes, stairs, treadmills, etc), basketball and racquetball courts, a large indoor climbing wall, a huge pool and aquatic therapy space, lockers, food, water, and the list goes on. It would be even better if they were open longer on the weekends!

There are always people swimming laps in the adult fitness part of the leisure pool, even when the lap pool is empty. It gets in the way of everyone else who wants to use it to do water aerobics or physical therapy. Instead of multiple people being able to fit in the pool, it is taken up by 3 people swimming laps for hours. I bought a pass for this pool just to not be able to use it.

Best deal in town for multi sport training and pool access. They just redid the kiddo pool and my kids love it. Gets crowded at peak times.

The pool area at the Durango recreation center had more features for kids to enjoy than expected. They have a huge pool with 2 diving boards, a 3-story water slide, a water play area, lazy river, a huge hot tub inside, and a splash zone outside. Well worth the $6 to get in.

The fitness classes are amazing. I really enjoyed the variety and the level. The daily pass is $7.5 and you will find there everything you need to work out: swimming pool , climbing wall, cardio, weight,... this kind of recreational center should be in every town.

Durango has a really cute recreation center. We came here for the pool. I love how they have an indoor swimming pool. It is pretty big and the heated water surprised me. Now I know why people swim here year-round. They have a lazy pool which is nice when you just want to float. And the kids section is so cute. It’s basically a playground in water. There’s also a frog slide for the little one’s. They also have a normal pool where I enjoyed swimming laps. But for a toddler learning how to swim, my son loved it! The warm water made him jump right in without hesitation. It really made the day so much better, relieving stress and adding to a perfect day to relax. Swimming here really was the highlight to our day. Thank you Durango!

The most complete package in town if you are into team sports and/or sports in general. Great if you play basketball, volleyball, racquetball, pickleball, want to get into climbing, need an indoor track swim, kayak (Wednesday night you can bring your own kayak for roll session for $5), do yoga and/or dance classes and indoor cycling/spinning classes. Not so great for heavy lifting or switching equipment during primary muscle rest for antagonic muscle workout w weights: equipment is limited and weights are limited for the volume of people in mornings and afternoons. For the price, though, hard to beat and you'll notice in weekday afternoon.

Hard core lifters will be disappointed in the weight room, but then again its not a hard core lifting place. A deadlift platform would be great. All in all its a cool place to take your family, everyone can have fun. You might even get a back work out in. Good place

They aquatic center just got new play equipment for the kids, it’s great! We always love coming here. The water is nice and warm, there is a lazy river, and the water slide is really fun! The hot tub is huge and feels great. They have life jackets for kids that might need them, which I loved when my boys were a little younger (5&7 now), such a great place to go during the winter. They have family changing rooms with showers which is great when you have children.

At the Durango Community Recreation Center in 2024, every visitor can count on friendly hospitality from the fitness professionals who work at the front desk and throughout the facility. Can basketball players take over the entire pickle ball side ? Because they lifted the goals and came over until I had to leave. It's very easy to balance. Everyone pays , there's 6 goals if 5 are taken up that's basically everything there's halves already, they shouldn't make it where we can't even play. I'm simply not coming back if I'm going to be kicked off for unscheduled events

Always recommend. They have everything anyone needs. I had foot and ankle surgery. Their life guards watched me and made sure I was OK. I was very pleased with today's service. And I plan to keep going back.

We have always wanted to check this out and enjoyed our stay here. The staff were mostly friendly, the rooms were beautiful, and the location/views were nice. We could not adjust the thermostat in our room (it is locked), so it was about 76 the whole time we were here. There was also a lot of outside noise throughout the night, but that comes with being centrally located on the strip. The bar/restaurant downstairs seemed to have some great music and was a popular hangout. Disfruta / Enjoy! 🏔 🏨 😎

My boyfriend and I had a great time here! I love the romantic, old building with its timeless design. The rooms are lovely and cozy. The hot tub was a ton of fun. It’s so full of detail and careful design elements that newer buildings so sadly lack. Also, great service, live music that sounded amazing, good drinks, and I’m pretty sure the place is filled with ghosts. So that’s all a plus. 10/10 will come back for more fun!

Booked top floor Premier room but was downgraded to a second floor room at check-in even though we booked it first. We were not provided with a Privacy Do Not Disturb door sign. Housekeeping knocked around 930 and we told them no thanks. No means no or so it should. We went to the Diamond Belle for breakfast ( food was mediocre) and upon returning to our room there were 3 people standing in the wide open doorway while other guests walked by. A surly manager and 2 housekeepers. They had rifled through our personal belongings, some very personal. They just came right in with no phone call, text or email. We felt violated to say the least. Great location but not worth the price or the attitude. One staff person who deserves kudos however. Tina was the best. Helpful and courteous. I’m afraid she’ll be face some consequences from the GM.

The Strater Hotel offers such an incredible experience! The staff are professional and friendly, the atmosphere is great, and really emphasizes the historical nature of the hotel and town. Three different restaurants/bars available in the building, and writhing walking distance of some of the best downtown sites. The room cleaning service was great, and made each day feel like it was the first day walking into the room. I cannot recommend this experience enough- one of the most enjoyable vacation experiences I’ve ever had. Bonus: try to find the hidden compartments around the hotel! Good luck!

Where do I begin? First and foremost, I'd like to give MASSIVE KUDOS to Tori and Megan. We missed a flight which ended up putting us 12 hours behind on schedule. I called the hotel and left a voicemail about the situation and received a call back/voicemail from Tori. She was SO KIND. Tori left me the sweetest voicemail and let me know that she would let the night staff know to expect us in the wee hours of the night. When we arrived at 2am to the hotel, we were greeted by Megan who was just as friendly and kind. She gave us information on the hotel, was also apologetic toward us for how crazy our travel day was (shy of 24 hours of traveling and layovers), and made us feel so welcome. The staff overall here was fantastic. The rooms are SO CUTE, we loved reading the journal entries and history about the hotel and the area. We are very familiar with this area and have always wanted to stay here and are so glad that we did. The hotel is located perfect to everything you could possibly need, everything is a SHORT walk, and I mean SHORT. I'm typically the kind to want to drive everywhere and this location is PRIME. The food and drinks in the attached restaurants and saloon are fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Thank you!

What a fantastic stay. This hotel is so unique and so cool. Right on the heart of Main Street, this hotel takes you back in time to the late 1800’s. There are three fantastic restaurants and a jacuzzi here. Rooms are small but very clean and well maintained. The staff, specifically Holly, were all extremely happy and helpful. They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities, and accommodated my dog. They even gave him his own dog bed and dog bowls. The hotel was also walking distance from almost every restaurant and hotel you could think of. Be prepared to not sleep in though as the train does make a lot of noise early in the morning. Other than that, this place was fantastic. Skip the holiday inn if you want a cool more authentic Colorado experience! Will be back!

Really nice looking hotel with that real authentic old Western feel. Beds were more comfortable than I thought they would be. White noise maker in the room was appreciated. Slept well. Cool decor. Parking is generally a little walk because it's very limited on the premises but it is free. Not the best place if you want to bring in your mountain bikes. We won't leave ours outside in the truck. We were lucky to be on the first floor. I don't think there are elevators. There's an awesome river walk trail close by to walk or bike.

Wouldn't stay here again. Overall: D+ grade -The great location and old west theme and ambiance is all this hotel has going for it. -Food in both restaurant and Diamond Belle Saloon is of cafeteria quality and overpriced. -Drinks overpriced -Sleep quality was bad. Stayed one floor above the saloon. Noisy until late. The beds, pillows, and linens are of poor quality. We stayed at the Strater Hotel the day before Christmas Eve because my son really wanted to stay in a haunted hotel and we love coming to Durango. We have been to the Strater before and knew what to expect in regards to the lack of quality in the food, so that was not surprising, but our experience was yet again reassured. The only thing good about this hotel is it's location on main Street and the Old West ambiance. Other hotels in the immediate vicinity offer better accommodations and amenities.

The hotel is gorgeous and Dom at the front desk was awesome. Bed was awful, although the room was spacious and well decorated. Most of the staff was courteous and helpful. However, the restaurants only serve food until 9pm, even though they say they’re open until 11pm.

We loved our 3 nights at The Strater! The staff were so friendly and eager to improve our stay any way they could. The property itself is oozing with history, and I really appreciate the lengths they've gone to preserve the details that make The Strater so special, from the wood carvings to the furniture to the window coverings. The beds were quite comfortable, and we also enjoyed the jacuzzi after a long day of hiking. It's location is ideal and walkable to anywhere in town. You really feel transported to 1890s Colorado when staying here. Plus, the Diamond Belle was a wonderful place to grab a drink either before or after a night on the town. We really enjoyed the nightly ragtime piano music, and the manager at the Belle was kind enough to give us a special tour of the hotel at the end of our night, showing us all sorts of secret areas and telling us the history of the place. Can't say enough good things, we were lucky to stay there and hope to return someday!

The Strater Hotel is one of the most unique and wonderful hotels we have ever stayed at. The premium room we stayed in was gorgeous and the decor all over the hotel was historic and so fun to explore. The location is perfect to access the train, food, and anything else downtown you could want. Parking is reserved and easy. The staff was pleasant, helpful, and always available and even went the extra mile to show our children special hiding places from the prohibition era. What a truly special stay we had, and we will be back!

Overall a cute old-timey hotel with very nice staff. The restaurants and atmosphere were good but not having AC in the rooms when it’s in the high 70s outside was a hard no. The front desk did offer a fan, but the nights got too cold so we were constantly getting up to open & close the window. There was also a blue grass band that was playing in the 3rd floor alcove right in front of our room until 11pm which is just too late to have a jam session on a guest room floor nowhere near the lobby. Someone also started vacuuming the hallway at 9am on Saturday. Don’t know that we would stay here again, but it was worth one weekend to experience!

Hotel was great with historic atmosphere, and the staff was helpful. Great location and easy to walk around town. The rooms were small but clean, you would expect this in a historic hotel. Carlos the night shift manager was very helpful and nice. The only thing I would change would be to have coffee in the room. Would strongly recommend staying here.

This place is resting on pretty! Whilst the building and the historic atmosphere is fabulous and the hotel is very conveniently located, some of the rooms are not sound proof at all. We could literally could hear our neighbours' full conversation through the interconnecting room doors. We had not been warned of this; when we told the hotel staff, we did not receive an apology for the inconvenience and paid for an upgrade to a room with no interconnecting doors and therefore with more privacy and silence. This is an easy fix and I feel hotel staff should really let patrons know of these issues, especially considering the price compared to other options close by.

Great location, but everything else is average at best. Beds weren't great, no a/c, no laundry, no fridge or microwave in the room. In the morning couldn't find staff to get utensils or to check out. It was nice to walk straight out onto Main St. to eat and shop but if I'm in Durango again will stay elsewhere.

this place was amazing. me and my family got to eat in the restaurant and it was absolutely amazing! the band that was preforming was The Blue Moon Ramblers. they where amazing. our waitress Hannah was amazing! she was so kind! the dinner was very delicious and I highly recommend this place!

Rooms are very old but comfy. Service was amazing. Bravo to Matt and Lena at the saloon. There was also another waitress and bartender that were both great. It is like family there. Local hang out with music. Good food and people watching. The hotel is very old but has so much character. Location is ideal!!!! We will be back. Just wish the bathrooms were updated but that is my only comment that is not very positive!

The rooms are small, but nice. Tiny bathroom and shower, but adequate. The restaurants are cozy, 2 with live music. The food was good. Coffee in the lobby in the morning, but no breakfast. No coffee, microwave or refrigerator in the room unless you ask. Walking distance to main street area

We just spent 3 nights at the Strater to celebrate our anniversary. This vintage hotel is beautiful! It's decorated perfectly and has many displays you'll enjoy. We enjoyed the music in the saloon and the office. Our room smelled good and was clean, the bed was comfy. We will be back. I recommend.

Very nice ambiente in the lobby, the reception and in front of the artificial "wood fire", and then - you go to your hotel room ... small, crappy, noisy; no way to work with a computer on a desk ... we are very disappointed; if the ambiente of the rooms would be similiar as the lobby etc, it would be excellent (price-performance ratio) but so this place is nothing but a heavily overpriced tourist trap with a friendly receptionist. Stay away!

What a cool place. The rooms are decorated... well the whole place is like stepping back in time. The elevator is not very big and slower than a tortoise and the stairs definitely predate any architectural standards. You may be winded by the second flight and/or the overall elevation. It does get the blood flowing. It's location is ideal if you're there for a train ride as it's just a few hundred feet to the depot. Good restaurants are even closer. Would do it again.

My kids (7, 4, 3) LOVE the Powerhouse. Thank God for Priscilla the snake who meets my little critter-loving child's desire for slithering things who eat not-slithering things. My oldest had his party there with much ease and joy. My kids especially love Priscilla (of course), the current rocket exhibit, and the new sound exhibit. Every staff member is personable and kind. Heather has an especially open and sharing personality that makes my children feel comfortable and excited about science.

The Powerhouse museum in Durango offers a delightful experience for families with young children. From the moment we arrived, Heather warmly welcomed us and guided our 5-year-old and 2-year-old through various activities, including a fascinating tour of the bee hive. Climbing the jungle gym to discover the secret room was a highlight, and Mark's magic tricks added an extra element of fun. He engaged the kids with challenges, like building a containment for toy bugs, where mom's design triumphed! Mark and Heather's enthusiasm and personalized attention made our visit truly memorable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mark and Heather for providing us with such a memorable experience at The Powerhouse. Their warm welcome, engaging activities, and personalized attention made our visit truly special. Thank you for going above and beyond to ensure that both kids and adults had a fantastic time. We can't wait to visit again!

Super cool Dino exhibit. Our kids are young but likes the hands on activities. Probably more appropriate for ages 4+ to maximize the fun!

We entered using our ASTC membership from another museum.M so it was free for us. Our kids loved the space and Mike who volunteers his time entertaining the kids. They have an outdoor space that could use a little more decoration. The inside exhibits are also pretty nice and educational. The whole place is kind of small but the entrance fee is also cheap or free in our case. Worth a visit if in town.

We had a great time playing and learning here! My kids (aged 11mo, 3, 5, and 7) all found lots to do. Great learning opportunities and fun for the little ones as well.

Our children LOVE going to the powerhouse, it has become a weekly visit for my four and two year old who always want to stay longer. Also interesting information on Tesla, power, and its correlation to the surrounding geography. A must stop for anyone on vacation with little ones.

Durango Devo has held many awesome events at The Powerhouse. We have hosted our DEVO film Fest and host our annual Halloween Parade and Party there. The Powerhouse staff is great to work with and they are very professional. The accommodate your needs and we are always so stoked to have their amazing interns engaging the kids.

Absolutely awesome museum. My kids loved all of the exhibits, and especially Ms. Heather's experiments. We spent about half the day here before catching an afternoon flight out of town and it was perfect to let them have time to roam and explore.

The Powerhouse is a fun and educational place for kids to interact with a variety of engaging exhibits. Grownups have plenty of space to tour most of the exhibits and interact and learn right along with the kids. Exhibits change from time to time and they offer a variety of fun programs with a variety of focuses, so check out their website to see what's available when you plan to go. They're also part of the ACM reciprocal network for children's museums as well as the ASTC passport program, so if you're visiting the area and have passes from either of those organizations you'll find the Powerhouse to be very welcoming.

By far, this is the coolest museum experience we have had. In November, the museum was open with reservations only and only for members. This included those with memberships in the conglomeration of nationwide museums. We are from out of state, but have membership for the museum near us that is in the network, so we were able to get an appointment. When we got there, I was very surprised at what we saw when we walked in. There was a note at the front welcoming my family and we were the only ones there. The woman played with my kids, answered their millions of questions, did a science activity with them (made slim), and let the kids see, touch, and hold her snake. There is also a animatronics dinosaur that she let my kid touch and explained how it came to be in the museum. Cute story. She told us about how the museum used to be an old coal powered electric plant. She also told us some of the history of how it became a museum. When it was time to go, I let me kid look through the gift shop. I collect cups from places we have been, but I didn't see a museum cup. I asked her about one and he said she didn't have any and apologized. As we were checking out, she asked me to give her a minute to check something. Cool. She came back triumphantly holding a museum cup telling me she wanted to check the back one last time and happened to find one last cup. Best experience ever. I would definitely go back if we are ever in the area.

My wife is the red wine connoisseur. She loved this nice little winery shop located in town. My wife was especially excited about the unique personalized wine bottles this winery offers. You can get custom labeled wines of your choice from this winery with any picture you care to submit becoming the wine bottle label. She ordered several bottles for her sons wedding featuring the groom and groom. These bottles turned out being one of the most cherished gifts.

Very cute winery. The owners were super friendly. I got the deal where you try the 5 samples, they were all so tasty. I really liked the raspberry dragonfruit one.

We hosted our school staff holiday party here and it was lovely. Our staff all seemed to really enjoy the wines they tried and the service was stellar. Dean and his wife were so kind and treated us well and made it a nice, relaxing evening for us all. We'll definitely plan to have our holiday parties here every year!

A very cute and cozy hole-in-the-wall spot. Our party did not receive the warmest of greetings from one of the bartenders upon our arrival, but after a few wine samples it was quickly forgotten. Four Leaves offers 3, 4 and 5 sample flights that provide plenty of variety for a curious palette. There is quite a selection of in house wines. The Black Cherry Pinot Noir and Malbec were our top picks for the evening and earned their spots in our wine cooler back home.

Love their wine! A fun atmosphere where you can hang out and try flights of wine. We made a special order of our favorite wine and we will have a labeling party there when it's ready.

The staff was very friendly but not really interested in talking about the wines, which was weird since that is their business. They buy grapes and then make wine in the back (I think), but when we asked both of the staff to explain the process, neither had any interest in doing so. It was nearly empty, so perhaps they thought we were going to steal their secret recipe, lol. It’s a nice place, but there are plenty of other locations to try before returning.

I don't know much about wine but after trying this Winery, I don't think I can ever buy wine from Walmart again 😬😬 the wine is delicious, and the owner is very kind, knowledgable and inspiring. He has affordable yet generous options for tastings and you can adapt your experience as you go. The interior was very dreamy and clean. My favorite wine was the blackberry merlot !

We had the greatest time in Durango right here! First of all the interior was so nice and unique with all the wooden tables and walls and floors. And the wine tasting price is super affordable. Extremely recommend their Sangiovese and their sea salt chocolate. And shout out to our sweet server! She took care of us with every little details and recommended us good places to visit in Colorado since we are from Texas. If you travel to Durango, this is a must go place!

Found this sweet place on a little day trip. Wonderful and knowledgeable bartender helped us. We had great helpful service and got to sample some amazing local wines. I’m excited to return!

Such a cute, quaint experience. Came here on date night away from baby with my husband and we were treated with great service. Super friendly and AMAZING MADE IN HOUSE WINE! What's better than that. We will definitely be back!

We've been in twice and it's so good! We just opened a bottle we bought last year and it's so FREAKING GOOD! I highly recommend checking this place out and getting a few bottles to go!

Insane number of wine varietals to taste at Durango's Four Leaves Winery (see my photos)! The customer service is FANTASTIC as they explain their background/love of winemaking and grape purchasing. Their wines are not aged, yet very drinkable today. Four Leaves Winery offers appetizers and chocolates samples for pairing. Come take a break from walking main street and relax with a flight of locally-made wines. Military and LE friendly!

This is my first time in Durango, CO. I found this winery just across the street from train station. The owners are so sweet and friendly, I loved atmosphere so cozy and inviting, wine..loved loved even had to take 2 bottles home. This place worth to return for.

We stopped in and were met by the owner, Dean, who was a gracious host making us feel right at home. The ambiance is warm and inviting with plenty of seating. We sampled a glass of the Tempranillo wine and ended up buying a bottle to bring home. Definitely a place to try if you like wine and in Durango.

Great little history museum about this part of Colorado.

Visiting this museum demonstrates hiw Durango was at the cutting edge of the country’s movement westward. Many relevant and unique items in the collection, including 2 small houses in the museum’s yard. One unexpected pleasant surprise was the museum docent; he makes history come alive.
