Night life and restaurants within walking distance are also wonderful. Unique piece of history to remember those who sacrificed and to learn from.

No need to buy ticket. Will be great to visit early in the morning before the crowds passing this old bridge. We can enjoy the river and some boats passing by. You can also visit the temple nearby (go down from the stairs at the end of the bridge) Make sure not to wear slippery sandals.

Full of history, this is a must stop for many Commonwealth country members. There are a number of tours to get you here, where you can view the bridge above and below, as well as walk across it. You can also ride a replica 1940s train service. The area has a number of facilities, stalls and restaurants to cater to your needs.

Definitely one of the bucket list when visiting Thailand. Full of history. Once in lifetime must take the normal train to reach there. You can walk on the train railway but at own risk, no handrail or any safety features.

The River Khwae Bridge is a historical bridge over the Khwae River in Kanchanaburi. The historical significance is the main reason for visiting this site. For the rest, it's just a bridge, in my opinion. The area around the bridge is nice too, like the Chinese temple, from where you can get a great view of the bridge!

This is such an interesting place to visit with so much history involving the POWs in World War II. We were able to walk over the bridge and then we took the train that still runs for an hour and a half and rode over the bridge on our way back. Don't miss doing this, take a tour when yiu are in Bangkok. We took the Trip Advisor tour and it was well worth the $40 Canadian for a full day tour with a great lunch included.

A truly amazing place to visit. So much history behind this iconic structure, a must see for all who visit Thailand. There are a number of small museums around which I would also recommend, as they are very informative about the bridge and the human sacrifice made during its construction. Took the bridge from the train so didn't really see the bridge. It is a unique bridge with rich history. But it's not really worth the time to travel just to visit the bridge. It is best to combine it with other attractions nearby like the nature reserves,etc. Stop at River Kwai Bridge station (one stop after Kanchanaburi Station) if you want to take photos of the bridge. It stops just before crossing the bridge. I made the mistake of taking the train across the bridge and the next station is very far away from the bridge.

Great little stop just for history's sake. You can walk across the bridge. The view is pretty nice. It's a fun little stop for half an hour or so. If you want to eat, there are food shops and a floating restaurant right next to it. The train still runs on this track!! We had a little Stand By Me reenactment on our trip. My daughter was checking the rails, Wonder when the next train comes?🤣 Walking back, we here a train whistle, turn and look, T R A I N ! ! ! 🤣🤣 It runs really slow so no danger, but we kinda laughed about it🥰

Yes, we'll worth a visit, and catch the train for a further one hour ride up the track that the poor prisoners of war built. The museum is well worth a visit, as is the beautifully maintained cemetery. Recommended for a day trip.

It was fun to stand there and see the train pass through. The train was old and looked like trains in Vietnam. There were many people there to see the train and after that take pictures of the railway, the temple nearby and the river. We spent some time there to take pictures and walk along the railway. After that we found a place where the street vendors sold coconut. We decided to try some. The coconuts were cool, sweet and fresh. The price was cheap.

I am told the train over the bridge stopped 8 years ago. However walking the bridge still felt special. Odd how I only heard the Great Escape music in my mind lol Update/ later saw a diesel train cross the bridge.

Very modest and well done. It is both very well kept and subdued. I went and found Chaplain Alexander Dean's grave although the sign at the front did not indicate anything that stood out about him. Well worth walking through for a half hour and letting the names and significance of the cemetery wash over you.

The cemetery is well maintained ... at least it was when we stopped by: watering and weeding. Incredible reminder of just some of the lives lost during that brutal campaign. Suggest you combine with a trip to the Death Railway Museum across the street if you want to learn more about what these people experienced.

A good reminder that Tham Krasae Railway Bridge and River Khwae Bridge are not just some random tourist attractions. A lot of people died here after forced labor during WW2. May want to combine this with the JEATH war museum.

The last resting place of 6982 Australian, British and Dutch Prisoners of War who perished while constructing the Burma Railway, also known as Death Railway, under extreme duress during WWII. Imperial Army of Japan treated the POWs inhumanly leading to 16000 deaths. POWs were given only 600 calories of food everyday and had to work 12 hours daily living in sub-human conditions. Commonwealth War Graves Commission owns and maintains the cemetery 1939 - 1945 The citation at the entrance reads - " IN HONOURED REMEMBRANCE OF THE FORTITUDE AND SACRIFICE OF THAT VALIANT COMPANY WHO PERISHED WHILE BUILDING THE RAILWAY FROM THAILAND TO BURMA DURING THEIR LONG CAPTIVITY..... "

On our day tour we went at first to this cemetery. This is a clean place at the main road, nothing to see then tombstones. Only interesting for visitors which have relatives their. I can't recommend the stop their.

This was definitely a place worth visiting. I went with a friend who's grandfather was in WWII and it had a definite meaning for him. Seeing a place where so many have sacrificed for others leaves a lasting impression. The place itself was beautifully built and decorated.

Visited yesterday remembrance Service, by the RBL with Veteran's and guests in attendance. Grounds are well kept, "we will remember them".

This well maintained war cemetery has the graves of martyrs of World War II and some workers that were died during the construction of railway. Around 5000 Graves are there. This graveyard is located very near to the Kanchanaburi railway station

This is another major attraction in the kanchanburi area . In this area there are graveyard of the people died in making the death railway . There is all together 5000 people's graveyard . You can see the in the graveyard stone that most of the people died before the age 35 in making this railway . Most of them are forced labourer from India, Malaya, British, Dutch and chines .

Very humbling museum with lots of personal items of soldiers too. A good short film running with accounts from survivors. Crowd of noisy schoolchildren in there, but we tried to blank them out, being grateful they were being taught about the horrors inflicted by the Japanese. Free coffee token for the cafe upstairs, but we didn't realise we'd been given a token till we got home!

A small yet incredibly informative museum that goes into great detail about the Thailand-Burma Railway that was constructed during the Second World War. One of the best museums that I have visited and the amount of real items from the railway is amazing. All of the text throughout the museum was easy to understand yet provided a lot of information. I definitely left feeling much more knowledgeable about this small piece of history. For anyone who wishes to visit the Bridge on the River Kwai itself, I cannot recommend this museum enough as it provides a truly great insight into the railway, its history, its construction and the human sacrifices made when it was built.

A must for history buffs. I never personally understood what actually happened.. but this museum represented all points of history from this time with dignity and respect for the suffering and will to survive.. perhaps also the worst and best of humanity. Entrance fee is a 150THB including a free tea or coffee in the coffee shop upstairs. The Coffee shop offers a quiet view over the cemetery.

It was a wonderful museum with a great variety of displays to make the visit engaging for both children and adults. The content was, of course, a bit gruesome since it was about the horrid part of WWII history but sobering to realise how much suffering PoWs had to endure. The museum is also right next to a cemetery so the visitors could understand the cause and the effects of the war immediately. For us Thais, it was an eye opener that so many foreigners suffered here in Thailand but good to know that the Thais were at least hospitable to them. Personnally I could visit more than once to read more in details.

This is by far one of the best museums on WW 2 in Kanchanaburi regarding the construction of the death railway. It tells you the story from the beginning of why the Japanese Imperial Army wanted to build this railway in their effort to fight against the Allied forces, how it was done and what happened along the way before they lost the war after the Atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The content is well done, well laid out, well maintained and well organized. After the museum, you can also visit the War Memorial cemetery nearby. Please spare at least 1 hour for this museum.

To get a picture of one of Thailand's dark history of recent, it would be recommended to go to the Death Railway museum. Yes, it sounds morbid, because it is. This took place during WWII and tells the story of prisoners of war and Asian forced laborers to build a railway from Thailand to Burma for the Japanese. The Japanse at the time had ambitions of taking over India and needed a way to get supplies and troops there. It's a grim tale of POWs worked to death, building a railway that was estimated to take 5 years in 16 months. It costs 160 baht per person to enter and you get a free tea or coffee at their coffee shop. It overlooks a cemetery dedicated to the veterans that died working on the railway. Anyways, it's good to learn some of the history that helped shape how we are today. Enjoy!

A well coordinated museum explaining a hard and sensitive subject. The displays are well thought out, from the reason, inception, till the end of the death railway. There are a lot of actual relics displayed with interesting diorama. Tickets are affordable at 160 baht. It includes a free coffee. Parking is just opposite the museum.

I appreciate this museum. Well organized and explained, easy to follow, lots to learn, for young and old. Only handful ppl there. Provided in English and Thai language. Coffee/tea included in the ticket. War Memorial Cemetery view from upstairs. Take the time to read the stories, watch the videos. You will witness the best and the worst of our humanity. I spent 2 hrs there, but I read everything.

Very, very important that you visit this Museum, had to work very hard to stop myself from crying in Public. The Museum is not too long and not too short, it basically gives you a bit of everything from the history to personal stories to displays to explain more. Definately a must see to make you think and reflect.

I felt sorry for the many sacrifices. However, it is unfortunate that the information about Koreans being forcibly conscripted is omitted. The Japanese and Koreans were recognized as the same enemy. At that time, Korea was under colonial rule and no one liked Japan. The country was forcibly taken over by Japan for 36 years.

The place is right opposite the memorial cemetery for the POW lost building the Burma railway. An educational and historical centre for those with connection to the building of the bridge during WWII

Impactful I highly recommend coordinating a visit to Hell Fire Pass in conjunction with the Death Railway Museum and the Memorial Cemetery. The Memorial Cemetery is across the street from the Death Railway Museum.

Fantastic, haunting museum. It’s fairly little but very dense. My friends and I read practically every plaque in the place. The history is fascinating and the exhibits are concise and impactful. I highly recommend you visit this moving museum.

If you like history, this place is a live museum. You can walk on or under the railway to see how hard this railway can be built in just around 2 weeks-time. Please be careful while walking on the railway.

Arrived here after the last train passed for sometime, so the whole place seems deserted. It feels serene, and peaceful, oblivious to the hardships and numerous deaths that took the POW and Romusha to built it. Some tracks are new, while most hugging the cliffs are still original. The sleepers tells the difference. There's no safety railing along the tracks so walking along it is a risk every one takes on their own, which I prefer it that way to preserve its originality. After visiting the Death Railway Museum followed by visiting this tracks in person gives me a real sense of respect yet sorrow for the fallen people who were forced to built it. An impossible task made possible, albeit hundred of thousands of sacrificed. A must visit if you are at Kanchanaburi. One bucket list of mine..... cleared.

Great Spot and and Historical Railway Line built on the edge of the River Kwai famously known as THE DEATH RAILWAY. We can walk thru some distance on the railway track to enjoy the beauty of the Historical Railway. There is small station with local vendors selling snacks and water.

Due to many forced labourers who died during its construction, the line is known as the death railway. Be sure to visit this plade, very scenic !

Great scenery with a historic railway above the river. You can enter this part of the railway from both Suan Sai Yok Resort and a market side. The first one is recommended because you can take a walk along the rails to see natural and man-made landscape for awhile. In the late morning, a train will approach this route at 11.00 a.m. and you could take a picture with a train at the sidewalk safely.

Took the railway here. According to the tour guide, this is one of the recommend pit stops to take the railway. Nice scenic views, and there’s a small cave nearby. Do try to wear proper shoes though! I was unaware and showed up in slippers - not the best footwear for the tracks.

Just this part of the railway is worth a visit, but don't wait too long, the Thai railways are doing a renovation and I fear they are replacing all the wood with concrete. If that happens, it is finished as a tourist attraction. Take a walk on the track, but be ready to step aside when the train comes. It drives quite slowly, and the horn is honked in good time.

This small museum contains some interesting things, which are not always well promoted. The explanations are succinct and the English translations are sometimes approximate. The museum can be done quickly in 15 minutes, but you'll need more time to look in more detail.

Compared to the other Railway Museum (at half the price) in town this one is so much better. More "stuff" (see pictures) to see including WW2 propaganda printing presses, rail cars, pictures, motorcycles, etc. Not meant to be the British War Museum. Well worth a look if you are roaming around the bridge area. (I'm guessing Jeath is just a mistranslation of Death or just to distinguish it from the other Death museum).

Bit of a haphazard museum, but overall the exhibits are interesting. The subject is of course sobering. In combination with the Death Railway Museum and Hellfire Pass, this works well. Pleased I visited the others first.

For me an awesome place especially if you are a keen observer. Dozens of items related to the World War 2 era. Most items on display are that old. Probably not perfectly cataloged and labelled but very interesting all the same. Near the parking lot of the Bridge Over The River Khwae. A modest 50 baht entry fee at the time of writing this review. The engine that transported ammunition for the Japanese is right at the entrance - really takes you back to that time. Many other items, that are no longer manufactured. You should see this place it is on 2 floors, make sure that you walk through all that space.

Not in good shape. But to pass the history to next generation this is the only option. Old bikes.war heads (of course used ones), pocket watches , old notes, coins, car, train with track etc . Separate liquor 🥃 and smoke packets that were used at that time of 1942 by japanees/thai/prisoners/etc

A bewildering collection of objects many relating to the Japanese occupation, and the cruelty to prisoners of war. Additionally there are potted histories of the world leaders of the time, and some fine statues of former rulers of Siam. Many grainy old photographs, part of the old wooden bridge, free toilets I didn't have time to visit it all, but on a previous occasion I went to another part, and they had a tribute to the Miss Thailand beauty competitions. Finally a splendid view of the river, and the bridge

To be honest this Museum was a little disappointing. With is being right next to the River Kwae Bridge, I expected it to be a lot more informative on the history of the bridge and the area. Instead it was just artefacts, vehicles and stuff on display from WW2. No information at all really, unless we missed it. They did have the old wooden bridge there though which was cool to see and a great view of the bridge!

The 2nd stop on our day tour was at this museum. Entrance fee is 50 THB each person. That museum is absolutely in terrible condition and is not recommendable to waist time at this place. In addition an animal shelter is placed underneath the museum which creates very bad smell.

A small museum, good to visit neaby the river khwae bridge. Takes about 5-10 minutes to go through. You can find news articles, photo's and more showing the conditions in which the captives had to work on the bridge. Note, the actual museum is more to the south.

Really accessible museum, a lot of large visual items which made it easy to take in information. Also quite quick to go round and you can see the bridge from it too. I recommend going to the Thailand Burma death railway museum for more information.

It's a small museum in a former prisoner of war camp. It's a 15min look around, usually visited on the way to the infamous Bridge over the river Kwai. It's probably not worth a visit to this alone. It's cheap, and tour guides will take you through it in detail. It reinforces the horrific conditions the prisoners endured.

Many relics from the WWII era. There is not a lot of structure and the history given in the plaques around the exhibits is lacking. There are a lot of interesting relics from that era and the admission price is very reasonable. I would not rate it high from a lesson on history standpoint, but relics contained make the visit worthwhile.

This place is good enough to enjoy the nature. It has enough facility for visitors. It is well known by people. Many visitors are from bug city like Bangkok. One day trip is enough to enjoy this place and other spots.

Beautiful waterfall with strange landscape but very good place for kids and family to join showering by waterfall plus capture good view and photo. The tide is not high and not deep so that even small kids are safe to play here.

It was nice but during peak season it is crowded with local people. Good for adults & kids but the big rocks where the waterfalls run are quite slippery. If going with kids they should be accompanied at all times.

Intresting location , its not only the waterfall , you can sit around at nature at water everywhere, just take somthink like carpet and go with friend there to talk , picnic or anything , its soo good place , Personaly i go at the end of July and waterfall not much water but still i enjoy a lot , you can join also at small cave behind the waterfall , you can go everyware around just need a little be careful .

Nice place for short-time visiting. Playing the water in summer is a good idea, but water volume is pretty low here. I like the environment here. On weekends, it is crowded. Some people suggest visiting here in the winter season.

This waterfalls is convenient as it takes only 100 meters from the entrance to the waterfalls. We went there on Friday and It was a little bit crowded. However, the water was cool and refreshing. Everybody was having good time playing, enjoying the water. Nice place.

I really love this small waterfalls. No matter how small it is, still it was breathtaking to look at. The water is cold and just refreshing. There are places to eat and enjoy the view of the waterfall.

Nam Tok Sai Yok Noi (Thai: น้ำตกไทรโยคน้อย, lit. I was traveling by weekend tourist train from Bangkok. It cost 120 baht for return. The train crosses over sections of the death railway (Burma Railway) and River Kwae bridge . This waterfall is located at the end of train journey. The train stops here for 2 hours and all the tourists had food and relaxed. There are many restaurants inside the national park and outside; some other shops are also there. The entry to this national park is free; tourists can swing or take bath under the waterfalls. There is parking area outside the park for those are driving here. Better to carry umbrella and additional cloths.

A lovely scenery with water sliding down rocks mildly, creating many poodles for swimming especially for children. Many serene shaded areas for a picnic or relaxation. Has many restaurants, beverage booths. Nice place for a couple, family or team hangout.

A puddle more than a pool. Water is very shallow, troubled and brown. Probably because of the extreme dry season. Too many vendors and shops for this otherwise small location. The historical train, even if not mantained and left to rot, is beautiful though.

Sai Yok Noi waterfall in the Kanchanaburi Province is a very unique waterfall. One can practically walked on it without slipping. A nice place to chill with the cold water during the hot days. The park is not only free, it is also beautiful. Families and friends can buy or rent a mat and picnic there with the many options of ordering food from the many hawker stalls there.

Parking was slow due to high volume on public holiday but it was great in peak rainy season! Biggest waterfall I've seen in Thailand. The cave at the top was awesome!

I visited this place mainly for the giraffes Encounter experience . You need to book this experience at least 3-4 months ahead by sending a message on their Facebook page. They might not reply right away. They'll ask for details like how many people and when you want to go. If your preferred date is full, you'll need to choose another. Some suggest trying to go without booking, but it's better to book ahead to be sure. The giraffe encounter package costs 1,000 baht per person, and regular entry is 550 baht per person, which you can buy at the counter. It's about a 2.5-hour drive from Bangkok. I took a taxi at 7:30 am for about 3,500 baht, arriving at 10 am for my 11 am giraffe encounter. You wait at the entrance, and they're on time. A jeep takes you to the giraffe area, where food for the animals is included. The whole thing takes about 15-20 minutes, then they bring you back. After that, you can buy carrot slices to feed the animals and go on a mini-bus safari park to see deer, giraffes, zebras, tigers, lions, and more. You have to lower the windows for safety. After the safari park, the bus drops you off at the open zoo area, where you can see monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, and have lunch at the restaurant.When you're finished, you can take the bus back to the entrance. Overall, the giraffe encounter is great, with helpful staff for photos. The safari park was okay, but I prefer the Bangkok one. The open zoo section was disappointing and didn't meet my expectations.

Nice zoo. You can feed giraffe with carrot here (2 buckets : 100 THB). There's many activities at this place, so it's good to come here with your family or friends. Also, you should follow the guideline from the zoo's staff if you want to feed the animals, since not every animal can digest carrot 🥕.

Superb place to interact and engage with animals in a open zoo concept. Able to drive your own vehicle in the park to view the animals or take the bus provided by the zoo. Take note of the timings for the animal shows, which is in a separate area that requires the parking of vehicles. Can purchase food to feed the animals. Animals look lively and energetic, seems well kept. Will recommend for families.

Very nice, but feel sorry for some tiger as they seemed thirsty with the heat in Thailand.. please provide more water sources in the area. Also, for pet feeding.. they should have break time as the young tigers also are very tired. 5 stars for giraffe photo 2 stars for animal welfare 1 star for ticketing staff who don't know how to communicate clearly.

This opened zoo is best for kids and family and there are schedule of animal shows too for tigers, elephant, crocodiles, and so on. Joining activities and see lots of wildlife animal are very impressive, foods for animals are sold to bring yourself close to the animals. The giraffes and deers are come close to the car while you are feeding them. Parking lots are large. Toilets are provided.

I had such as amazing time here. Highlight of my trip to kanchanaburi. We were able to go up close with the animals and that was really an experience. We initially didn't know we could drive in to the Safari with our own car, so we took the bus. Was bummed at first, because a car would be more fun. However, taking the bus was a blessing in disguise, as the bus was high enough to feed the giraffes! If we used the car, the giraffes probably can't get to our level.

I had a great experience at the open zoo here. The animals look very healthy and familiar with human. You can feed the giraffe from the open-air bus. Good place to go with family and friends.

Nice safari experience. For up close and personal with thrle girrafe you have to pay another 1000baht. But the experience was priceless❤❤. Best to spend half a day here so u dont miss out every shows. Located in Kanchanaburi, about 1 hr and half to 2 hrs drive from Bangkok. Animals were friendly i guess because they are used to people. Why this camel's lashes are better than mine hhahaa. Anyway, the children loves the animals so much and they capture every moments. Do not buy ticket online. Just come directly. However, if you want to have pictorial with the giraffe, have to book in advance in their site. Be careful also of booking this zoo. Different from Safari world which is in Bangkok. Private car is able to drive in, 550 baht per person, what a great experience to enjoy the Open Zoo. We bought 8 basket of carrots at the entrance. 100 baht for 2 basket. Buy more as there are no stopping point to buy once u enter. I am able to see that animal are provided with food, so they aren’t starving, but they seems to love the carrot a lot and rushing to our car to have carrots. The giraffe are shyer, once the zebra cloud came, they tend to give way. We did not check on the show due to hot weather. Walk a little on their walking area, not much to see. Staff are friendly and surprised on how much basket of carrot we got! My girl enjoy feeding them.

A lot of interactions with animals such as deer, giraffes and zebras. They can be fed but you need to pay money for the food tray. There are also elephant and crocodile shows which I feel a bit uneasy about. I heard that these animals are treated well but I don't know. Parking space is extremely dusty as the ground is not paved. The first visit after the zoo went viral on social media. I was here about 15 years ago, and there’s no guest around. So empty back then. But this time everything changed! Lots of people in the zoo. There was also a queue to get on the safari bus so we decided to drive in. Animals are much more than before and also look healthier. There's a leopard section as well! Be prepared to buy enough food to feed zebras and giraffes at the last section. And they do cash only!!! 💵💵💵 No wired or transfer money or even no ATM onsite.

We visited this place as part of our Klook tour package. You can buy food for the animals for THB 100 (2 bowls). Managed to see some deers, black bears, tigers, cheetah and giraffe. Lion was in the cage as there is some sort of repair being done to its cage. It was an enjoyable experience for all ages.

Animals are poorly treated and starved. Really terrible, please avoid! There is definitely animal cruelty and abuse going on especially seen in the crocodile show whereby the staff is constantly poking the crocodiles with a big thick stick. I don’t know how the public can clap and even give tips? Please boycott the park and do not support such abuse!

This safari park is popular recently. You can enjoy a private photo shorting session on a jeep with giraffes (Not including in the entrance fee). If you have no budget to the Africa, it is a good choice to interact with giraffes here. And you can choose to interact with baby tiger, baby lion and baby leopard with extra charges. Unforgettable experiences for animals lovers!

Visit on a weekday morning. There’s not much crowd then. Fuss free as well. You get the ticket and hop on to the bus which will take you through the enclosure. You can grab the carrot slices for 100b before boarding. There are antelopes, deers, giraffes, zebras, couple of camels, abd some of the big cat families are there as well. Following the bus tour, they will drop you at the mini zoo which you may skip if you don’t enjoy seeing small animals being kept in poor conditioned cages or silly animal shows involving the crocs and elephants. Overall, ok for the feeding experience. The rest, can be skipped.

There are many elephant sanctuaries in Thailand. Please look at Elephants Haven Thailand. You will have an amazing experience and no elephants are harmed there. Do some research on elephant riding before you book.

The animals are NOT treated well at this place or any place where elephants are doing cute tricks or giving rides. Go ahead and look up how such elephants are trained (learn about bullhooks for starters). It is not fun, it's not cute, it's not OK. You're not a bad person, you just didn't know. Avoid stuff like this now, please. These places count on loads of tourists who just don't know any better.

There is no reason of not paying a visit to this tiny elephant camp. You'll get a chance to feed both big and small jumbos. They are cute and friendly, although some of them looks mischievous. Pitty little ones seem to wait for some bananas.😢. Above all, a petite coffee cafe is a hidden gem.

I was disappointed. They charge a much higher price for « foreigners ». What is the point to come to Thailand if they want to charge us like in our native country ?… but besides this, guides don’t speak English at all. They see you as a walking wallet full of cash. Talking about you in Thai and laughing - disrespectful. When they took pictures , they ask me fee for it. 2 stars for those beautiful elephants who deserve much more than this life.

Beautiful and cute elephants. We just made a quick stop here for some feeding and pictures. One baby elephant tried to climb over the fence all the time. Maybe he watched prison break.

We were here as one stop in a guided tour. When booking the tour in our hostel, my partner and I had stated explicitly that we didn't want to go to a place of elephant riding/trecking but to a sanctuary instead (where supposedly they offer a no riding bathing adventure with elephants). To our surprise we ended up here, at this place. It was all very rushed and confusing to me and when our guide told us to climb on the elephant's back (directly on skin), I was taken by surprise and just did as I was told, but the second I sat down I realised that this was so, so wrong and I actually wanted to get off. But the elephant was already moving, that was a bit scary and I had to focus in order not to fall off. So my partner and I went along with it and did as we were told. They let the elephants do tricks, even throwing people into the water with their trunks. It's very entertaining for tourists but the elephants are totally degraded to an extravagant form of entertainment. 'Our' elephant was so obedient and did exactly as she was told by the guide... From what I know, there are multiple ways of teaching animals desired behaviour and tricks, ranging from ways that seem ok for some animals such as positive reinforcement (e. g. give treats for desired behaviour) to positive punishment (apply unpleasant stimulus to discourage undesired behaviour). The elephants at this place didn't seem happy at all and I think teaching methods are probably chosen for efficiency and not maximum animal welfare. I regret having participated in this and I wish I had had the present of mind to just say: 'No, I don't want to do that'. Elephants are highly sensitive creatures and, in my opinion, Taweechai Camp is not a good place for them. I feel ashamed of myself for taking part in this and I would advise anybody who genuinely cares for elephants not to support this form of animal abuse.

Thats not a place you should visit! The elephants only there to enterntain the tourists. Animal exploitation at the expense of the amusement humans should not more be a thing in 2024.

Very unethical. Do not ride / feed / bathe an elephant. All activities distress these poor creatures If you want to understand the impact of riding an elephant, Google “breaking an elephants spirit”

Terrible. Please do not support elephant abuse by going to this place, the tour guides were holding an axe the whole time to poke the elephants and even one of them was bleeding. So sad to see how they are chained up. Please don't ride them.

Great local experience for Thais and foreigners alike. The camp is very natural, refreshing and relaxing. Elephants are playful and enjoy themselves in the river. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

We went during summer in April. The place was extremely hot though the trees seem pretty dense. It would be good for historical traveller lover. The buddha is well preserved.

Mueang Sing (Thai: เมืองสิงห์, pronounced [mɯ̄a̯ŋ sǐŋ]) is a historical park in Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. It protects the remains of two Khmer temples dating to the 13th and 14th centuries. It was declared a historical park in 1987. The history of the site goes back to the period between 857 and 1157, a period when the Khmer Kingdom was flourishing. Records show that the town was abandoned until the reign of King Rama I. The name Mueang Sing first showed in the chronicles of the reign of King Rama I (1782-1809), when it was a fortified town protecting the town Kanchanaburi. In the reform of provincial administration at the end of the 19th century its status was reduced from Mueang to Tambon (commune). Built in the Bayon-style, the temples date to the Khmer kingdom in the reign of King Jayavarman VII (1180 to 1219). A stone inscription of Prince Vira Kumara praising his father, 23 cities are named. One of these cities was named Srichaiya Singhapura, which some scholars identify with Mueang Sing. Four monuments are located inside the area of 736,000 m² enclosed by a laterite wall. The south wall winds along the Khwae Noi river course, while the other three sides are quadratic. The main monument is in the center of the area. Northwest of this are the foundations of a second temple building. The other two monuments are of much smaller scale.

It's a nice park with some interesting history. To do your own tour you can scan a QR code and listen to a video at YouTube for severalvisiting points. Small area for food, drinks and souvenirs. U can use the car, motorcycle, walk or ride the bike to visit the different places. U can enjoy a great view at the river to take a rest. Like always: too expensive for foreigners... everywhere the same

Very quiet and beautiful place. Full of greenery. Not much rushy place. So you can take photos and videos easily.

This is a well maintained historical site. The surrounding area is very clean. You can drive around and take a look around (the ticket price depends on the vehicle type and the number of visitors). The restrooms here are clean. They have drinks inside. This place is located on the way to Sai Yok Waterfall, suitable for taking a break.

Very well maintained area, interesting ruins. It is quite small though, only 4 ruin sites, so unless you are passing through the area I don't think it is worth it.

These ancient ruins are absolutely stunning, they where temples built by the Khmer kingdom in the 13th century and some are still standing today. It’s a great place to take your family for an afternoon and walk around the ground, get some fresh air, and learn a bit about history. Definitely stop by while you’re in Kanchanaburi

This small museum contains some interesting things, which are not always well promoted. The explanations are succinct and the English translations are sometimes approximate. The museum can be done quickly in 15 minutes, but you'll need more time to look in more detail.

Compared to the other Railway Museum (at half the price) in town this one is so much better. More "stuff" (see pictures) to see including WW2 propaganda printing presses, rail cars, pictures, motorcycles, etc. Not meant to be the British War Museum. Well worth a look if you are roaming around the bridge area. (I'm guessing Jeath is just a mistranslation of Death or just to distinguish it from the other Death museum).

Many relics from the WWII era. There is not a lot of structure and the history given in the plaques around the exhibits is lacking. There are a lot of interesting relics from that era and the admission price is very reasonable. I would not rate it high from a lesson on history standpoint, but relics contained make the visit worthwhile.

I’ve never been here, but elephants are not physically designed to carry people and a saddle on their back. If you truly love and respect elephants, you shouldn’t ride them – it’s shameful behavior.

Don’t go there - elephants are tied with a short chain by the leg. In elephant care places isn’t possible to ride elephant where here we saw equipment for such activity. We asked why elephants don’t have constant access to fresh water, response was that they going for bathing three times per day…

I m still confused about this place. It looks that elephants are not treated bad... But Mahouts (elephants traineers) with their sharp hooks cause the feeling that there is something wrong. For sure riding, bathing, feeding, this are not the activities elephants want to do. But elephants needs us and our money and every camp is focused on earning money and keeping elephants in a good shape.

I have mixed feelings with this place. Elephants there looks healthy and happy and it is hard to say how they life looks everyday. It is nod needed to ride an elephant in there. One can go and feed them with bananas for few Bats.

I have come here with two people they went inside but I refused to get in. Have ideals, one or two pictures can mean a moment of joy for the tourist but a whole life of imprisonment for elephants. Do research, go to places where people at least treat them with dignity don’t give money to places where they profit. It was very painful to see from far. Consider to go somewhere where people treat animals with dignity, mounting elephants leads to permanent spinal injuries.

Please do not visit this place. Elephants are chained outside, separately to attract tourists. A good elephant sanctuary does not allow people to ride elephants, to feed them or to play with them. I hope this place will be closed soon and that the elephants will get a better home.

Definitely worth a visit. A humongous tree! There are other interesting things / activities. Bought a bunch of local bananas, only Baht15. Taste delicious different taste and texture from the others I used to have. The weather has been very kind today and hopefully for the next few days.

Only when you stand underneath the gigantic umbrella of the Monkey Pod tree can you appreciate its overwhelming size. It reminds me of the 'Mother Tree' in Avatar with its massive sprawling branches. She watches over all beneath and within her bounds. Being near a tree like this makes you feel closer to nature and loving its natural beauty. Had to give her a hug and imagine how many generations she has witnessed in 120 years. I came to see just this tree and be in her presence, with no other distractions.

We only reached this place very late at 4:40pm. That was good because there weren't many visitors left and we were able to take a lot of photos and videos undisturbed. There is a large parking lot. If you want, you can also feed goats or ride elephants. There is a small pond with watercraft for children on a small hill. Otherwise you can of course eat and drink a lot on site or buy to take away. The tree itself is really big and impressive as can be seen in the photos. If you are in the area, you should definitely visit him.

This is one of those amazing sites that doesn't require a long hike and cane appreciated in 15 minutes or contemplated for longer. The cantilevered branches are amazing as is just taking in the whole canopy. Plenty of parking, bathrooms, and food vendors. Good visit to combine with the Wat Bam Tham and Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple).

Very big tree. No entrance ticket and there are shops around selling snacks and local products. Quiet area so it's good for those who prefer less people. You are not allowed to touch the tree or having picnic under the tree.

Very entertaining to be here. The tree has become a tourist attraction for the area and around it you'll find many shops for food and drinks. Toilets are available and everything around the property is maintained well. Nice to spent an hour or so.

Huge Gigantic amazing tree, one of few I've came across. The conservation efforts are amazing too, injecting chemical into the huge stems around. It's ok for a drop by, but not a must see. Around the area lines the usual eateries and make shift gift shops.

On week days a tranquil and nice spot to look at the 120 year old Raintree. Small shops and restaurants nearby. No admission, its in an army-area where horses is bred.

Never seen a tree this big. It's out of this world! When you go under the tree, you can see its branches spreading as far as you can see. I feel that this tree is like an alien and doesn't belong to here. Imagine it can move and transform like the movie is fun. You have to come here so you can see what I mean.

(August 2023) I came here with low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the giant tree, it’s quite impressive and there is no entry fee. I actually wanted to post this review to highlight the great food we had at one of the food stalls near the parking area (see the last picture). Two dishes cost less than 100 THB and the ladies there were super nice to us ☺️ There was also a cool camping-style coffee place near the giant tree called The Vanaheim, I had a great latte there, although quite pricy (85 THB).

This tree is symbolic of the one Buddha sat under while he attained enlightenment. A breathtakingly massive tree set in a very peaceful area where you can sit and sip your coffee.

Great food 😅 just make sure to leave some space until you completely done in the food area, some really nice tasty desserts and very very cheap. Head through a little earlier than when it's dark. I went late the night before and there wasn't as much food stalls as there was tonight.

Interesting local market some food was great some no. But really you need to come here. One portion cost from 20-60 bath.

JJ Night Market is the daily night market in Kanchanaburi, open everyday except the last Wednesday of the month. There’s a good selection of reasonably priced food; fruits, sweets, desert, BBQ meats, noodle and rice dishes as well as clothes etc. There’s even a lady in a food truck selling Thai green curry. Well worth a visit.

A great market, just outside the train station. There are lots of stalls selling a wide variety of food. You can also buy clothes, electronics, toys, shoes etc. It's not huge, but large enough. It's nice to just wander round and we found the stall holders to be very friendly. There is lots of parking space behind the market. We went back tonight to pick up dinner. We arrived later than on first visit and the place was very busy. Lots of parking, but not easy to find a free space. We got one on our second circuit.

If you are looking for variety and cheap foods in Kanchanaburi, this is the right place. Big night market, a lot of foods are ฿10, grill sausage only ฿3 per stick.

Such a good night market, there's almost anything for everyone. Too bad today is raining. You can get lots of great food, for almost every palate and every taste. Also the non food item stalls are a plenty... Will try come back if there is no rain. Really enjoyed my short time visiting.

Great night market, very large place with lots of fun vintage clothing shopping. You'll definitely find something great to eat! Prices about half compared to the restaurants that cater to the tourists in this town

While this was expensive for foreigners I did find it very interesting to see. It’s an easy activity to start or end your day if you are staying on the river. The “rangers” are kind and the young tour guides and sweet. Definitely use a flashlight (it would be nice if there was more light installed inside the cave). The last chamber has a beautiful cascading stalactite. It was VERY humid inside, you will come out sweaty. Price aside, its a fun and easy activity to add to your agenda.

Tickets for Foreigners cost 300 each, kids 150 each. Take your time to climb up, then go inside the cave. The cave has only one way in and out.

It's not the most well maintained cave, but a convenient one to explore if you're staying at the Floathouse. Really up close with the bats... and go all the way to the end to the highlight if the cave: a mega shimmery blue limestone pillar.

We loved this place, the cave was set up a steep face which was easily accessible via well maintained stairs. A headtorch is provided and you can explore the entire cave, it had many different chamber, at least 8 and some of them were as big as cathedrals and amazing rock formations everywhere and a few bats. Lots of people complain about different pricing for foreigners but this is standard practice for national parks in Thailand and helps them maintain attractions and natures so just don't complain. Well maintained and would recommend.

The Lawa cave was a great visit. Not many people so you can enjoy your experience one on one with the bats! There are many cutie bats hanging to the ceiling and sometimes flying pass by you. Also you will see many beautiful stone structures. You have to pay the 300 THB entry fees per adult, which unfortunately are based on double pricing for foreigners vs. Thai people. Inside the cave a guide will go with you, though his English being relatively limited, you won't be able to ask too many questions. You go in to the end and come back via the same path. They provide you with torch lights. If you stay in the floating hotel nearby, you can easily go there with the bicycles and the duration of the cave visit should not be more than 1 hour. Take note that there are a few stairs to climb to get to the actual entrance of the cave.

Place is wonderful must visit. Very good experience walking inside cave for 300 meters and watch your head while walking. For Foreigners even if you have work permit they charge you 300 Bhat.
