Well worth the hike. It's only 0.4 miles to the falls. Asphalt walkway the entire way. The falls is gorgeous and so is the path to the waterfall. The entire state park is scenic and beautiful. People bring their dogs out and families to this place, it is dog friendly It doesn't get much better than that. Nature's lovers will enjoy for sure.

Probably one of the most beautiful water falls I have been to in a while. The trail up there was amazing and everything was clean and so lovely. To be one with nature really recharges me and it was such a memorable trip. Will be returning with our family to share this hidden gem. The ride to the water falls is amazing as well. Driving through the mountains is always an all time favorite.

It's a beautiful place. You enjoy the environment from the principal gate until the falls, the way until the top is a little hard, but the falls are so beautiful.

Full disclosure, I rarely write reviews on anything but restaurants. This was such a highlight of our trip that I felt like I needed to write a review. What an awesome place to visit! My wife and I took my 82 & 84 year old mother-in-law and father-in-law with us and they LOVED it. They both use canes and it took us a while to get to the falls but it was so worth it. The trail is paved and has wooden rails on portions of it for people to brace themselves. It is well maintained and only has a few spots with a steep incline. I’m not sure you would want to go if you were in a scooter or wheelchair but I suppose you could try. The pictures I attached do not do it justice. Highly recommend!!!

We visit this Falls about twice a year. It is beautiful when the leaves are changing. I did not upload a picture of the actual falls because you must come and see them in person!

Wow, I didn’t think we have such a beautiful place within 75 miles. The place is magnificent. The falls were beautiful, give you a feeling of calm and serene. It was a short to the falls from the parking area, it may be hard for toddlers to hike but you can take wagons if you would like. The falls flows from the top to the bottom of the city Helen, it was such a beautiful view. It is a must visit. Plenty of parking, national park pass works here. Carry cash with you as it’s a small place and lots of vendors do not carry a swiping machine. There are a lot of picnic areas and playground for kids too. You can do either barbecue or pot luck or takeout. We enjoyed an every bit of the park! Love to visit again.

We absolutely love nature and being 6 1/2 months pregnant this was a perfect hike! It was pretty busy for a Sunday! All paved hiking trail to the waterfall and scenic! Has several rock benches along the path for pit stops. To go to the Falls it was 5 dollars per person so be prepared to have funds with you :) The gift shop does accept cards along with having nice gifts. Definitely will be back especially when the little one pops out! Perfect family trip for all to enjoy!!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. When I lived in GA as a kid my family would come here all the time. Anna Ruby Falls is a place to enjoy nature. The walk is beautiful. The hike up to the falls is great.

There is a $5 fee to get in the park. The hike to the falls is a moderate half mile but there are places to stop and rest if needed. It is a paved pathway. If you are able definitely make this a priority. The view is unbelievable.

This beautiful, romantic place is filled with amazing trees and flowers. Trout swim in the crystal-clear river 🤩 and comfortable walking trails wind through the lush landscape. There are many places to take stunning photos, from the picturesque bridge to the cascading waterfall.

Great location and easy to drive, but please note that the park charges $5 per person instead of per car. Overall, it's a lovely place to relax with your family and enjoy the fall foliage. I highly recommend it.

Such a beautiful falls!!! It opens at oak and I was there early, not a lot of ppl were there. The hike can be strenuous depending on your level. I was in and out within 25 minutes.

This was such a beautiful hike, paved pathway so made it easy to walk. It was not very long, I would say it was about a mile round trip once you park. We went just after a bunch of rain so I feel like we got lucky with great views of the waterfall and river with the water coming down off the mountain.

It's an easy hike if you're in shape. If you're not it's challenging but doable. It's not the length but the incline that will get you. It's worth it when you get to the falls. It's paved the whole way and kept nice and clean.

We visited Anna Ruby falls on Christmas and it was beautiful! You can choose to do a longer hike but we chose the short high as it was freezing! Nice gift shop and clean restrooms!

A MUST SEE! Very easy beginner hike. amazing reward and view. Took amazing pictures on my camera here not very crowded. Went on a Sunday and had a normal amount of people there. Still very easy to take pictures. If you’re coming to Georgia, definitely check this place out!

Fairly easy paved path to the waterfalls. It does have an incline, but they have a few stone benches along the way. To the right of the information board by the falls, is a longer hike on a dirt path. We only went a couple of miles in. We had to cross a creek, a few places were a little steep climbing over rocks. We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.

Absolutely beautiful park! Entry was $5 per car, and they have a wonderful visitor center/ gift shop / restrooms at the parking lot. The walk up to the falls is fairly easy, with plenty of places to rest if needed. They have seating at the top to sit and admire the falls, plenty of vantage points for viewing.

Nice drive, Fall leaves almost gone but it’s a nice escape from City Life! You feel so serene . Open at 9AM . I went there early as they are opening the gate, in about an hour or two lots of visitors came gets crowded.

And an amazing adventure for my grandchildren. The excitement when they saw the waterfall, priceless!! Great exercise !! Great way to allow the grandkids to experience the outdoors and learn about history along the walk. This is truly a great place to come and visit and relax. While in North Georgia I went to Anna Ruby falls on a beautiful February day. Short walk to the falls from the visitor center is very pleasant with rapids along the trail the entire way. Arriving at the big falls the platform provided many beautiful views of the falls. Not too crowded and people were courteous about getting their selfies and letting others get into position for their pictures. Ranger at front gate was very friendly and suggested cool things to see while at the park.

Entry is now $5 person in the car and it was very busy but that's to be expected since it was a weekend. This place is beautiful and very well kept. It's definitely worth the walk for the amazing views.

Beautiful tourist spot with wonderful views of the forest around it as well as the waterfalls at the peak of the hike. The hike is relatively short and is paved through its entire length so it is more friendly than similar hikes. The entire hike to the falls is uphill, so this may serve as an issue to certain patrons. It cost $5 per person to get inside the gate and park, and there is a visitor center with free bathrooms available. Cellular service is very spotty once inside the premises so plan accordingly. Definitely a spot worth visiting while in Helen, GA.

Such a beautiful waterfall, with just 0.4 miles easy hike. 15-20 mins drive from Helen, totally worth the views. National park annual pass also works here.

Had a wonderful experience at the Unicoi State Park & Lodge. Beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. There are so many adventures this place will keep you busy. Friendly place for self and kids. My room was clean & cozy bed was made out of real wood. Almost had a feel of a hotel cabin.

I stayed here a couple years ago but always come back to do activities in the state park. We loved stayed at the lodge. Anna Ruby Falls is inside this state park too. You should definitely stop by. There are also areas with picnic tables that you can use and a park. There is a stream right there that the kids can play in too. There are many activities that you can do at the lodge. You can kayak, paddle board, do archery, and lots more! I definitely recommend looking into all that it has to offer.

The park is beautiful. We especially love the trails and creeks. At the beach portion there was a ton of goose poop. I know they can't control it, but it was very off-putting and our only complaint. We will definitely go back.

Love this area. Right outside of Helen. The lake is gorgeous, picnic areas, hiking, a lot of activities. The lodge is pretty. Nice rooms, the restaurant is good too. Just a wonderful place to relax.

Highly recommend Unicoi state park for good hike, kayaking and relaxing time. It has small beach area too. The Anna Ruby falls entrance that is through Unicoi state park. It closes at 5 pm est for exit and 4 pm for entry with a few of 5$ per person above 16 years of age. Loved the falls and hiking around the Unicoi park. I haven't stayed at the lodging so cannot comment on it. But from outside looks neat. Anna Ruby falls gift shop area has restrooms.

There is literally so much I could say about this lovely place. My husband and I took an RV trip for our honeymoon and I have absolutely 0 complaints. From arriving to leaving we were treated with such kindness from Mike our shuttle driver to Chris at the lodge as well as Patti! They went above and beyond to make sure our stay here was perfect and it was. We honestly did not want to leave. The scenery was gorgeous and we really enjoyed Helen. We will come back to see all the kind people we made friends and I encourage anyone to come here during any time of the year. You won’t regret it.

The Unicoi State Park and Lodge is the perfect place to have a nature or romantic retreat! The actual park is so beautiful, it has a beautiful lake surrounded by trees and mountains.. it’s an espectacular view. They also have the Lodge where you can find beautiful “barrel style” cabins that are amazing. This place is 100% recommended! 👍 Just look at the photos attached ;0)

Beautiful facility. A good selection of trails for different skill levels. For RV folks the visitors center is well stocked and interesting. There are beautiful (although quite tight spots) and a dog park! The lake activities look really cool! We just came for the day and hiked a good 6mile round trip! Good day! Definitely a come back spot.

Just spent two days here an Unicoi Lodge. Rooms were perfect! Clean and loved the common areas at each building. We spent two night playing board and card games with our granddaughters! Omg! We had fun! Very reasonably priced(I’m a veteran). We’ll definitely be back! The staff were VERY friendly and helpful at every turn!

We stayed here over the summer & came back to experience the Fall colors & this place doesn't disappoint. We tent camp & the welcome center & employees are top notch. Park is very well kept & there a bunch to do for the whole family!

We went to the RV area, very nice park and quiet. Everyone we met was super helpful. Loved being on a creek. Dog friendly. Full Hookup service. Comfort stations were clean. Great hiking. Will definitely be going back.

This is a nice lodge. Roomy rooms; day rooms in each building; fire pit; conference center; restaurant serving breakfast and lunch; Tavern serving alcohol and dinner. The food was very good. From a conference perspective, the A/V setup was absolutely unacceptable. Do NOT pay for the use of their equipment or sign a contract with them without first viewing the A/V setup. Unless they invest some money in it, it is not suitable for a good conference. Most in the room could not read the slides; it was an embarrassment for the conference hosts. There are two parking lots. There are nice views; it’s in a lovely area. Lodge staff were friendly and helpful.

Hosting a convention here this summer so we came to check out the facilities. Our room was recently remodeled, it’s fabulous! New furniture, fantastic bathroom. The staff has been extremely helpful and friendly. Bar food was good, and lots of gathering spaces throughout the area.

The park is huge & beautiful! The service was great. We stayed at the RV camping site, but they had a lot of different lodging options. The walking trails were nice. We were surrounded by a lot of trees. Each site had a fire pit with a grill, a picnic table.

We stayed in our camper and we have to say what a park! This place is amazing, the staff are fabulous and the available activities are exceptional. Kudos to the park staff. We had an electrical issue with the circuit box and they fixed it right away. Keep on doing what you're doing cause it works! We'll be back!

Just missed getting to eat at the lodge. The area is very well maintained and tranquil. We loved walking to Anna Ruby waterfall and along a few of the trails in the Park. All the park personnel we encountered were very helpful and friendly. Loved our time here.

About 150 of us showed up for an outdoor adventure convention here at Unicoi State Park & Lodge in Helen last month. Everything seemed to go smoothly for our various events over three days. All accommodations were excellent. My room was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping was above what I would have normally expected. Desk service was friendly and helpful. Everything you need is here in one location. You can even zip line adjacent to the parking lot. If you’ve got a couple extra bucks treat you and your family to a little something special. Very much recommended.

Renovated rooms are very nice. I was there for a conference with buffet only service was good but limited menu due to the meeting. Great for meetings, near Anna Ruby Falls. Didn’t explore the area but I will go back.

We had the most incredible time at Unicoi last week and will definitely be back. We stayed in a two bedroom barrel cabin and it was absolutely gorgeous! The rustic feel was a welcome change from our usual suburban lives. We had gorgeous views of the mountains and the lake and even saw some snow flurries! We came fully stocked with what we needed to cook with not expecting there to be as much offered in the cabin as there was. It is on our “must return” list.

While exploring in Helen Ga , we came across Unicoi State Park. We road up to explore . It's beautiful..well worth the drive. You will find the lake , picnic areas, camping and cottages. It costs a few dollars per person if you're going to stop for a while. You can drive through to Anna Ruby Falls.. which is a National Park and it costs $5 per person..well worth going to. We were there in Mid November. There were still a few leaves left on the trees, and it was still pretty. I'm bet this place is amazing through the peak season. The picture of the water fall is located at the Anna Ruby Fall at the National Park.. look up my review for the falls, and there will be more details and pictures.

We just completed participation in the 49th annual Fireside Arts & Craft show at the lodge. The coordinators - Danielle and Jenny did an amazing job advertising the event and making it a great weekend for all the vendors. They were super helpful. I highly recommend the event for next year. We will surely attend again. Great job to all involved.

We normally love to stay here for Christmas and we have been coming for the past several years, but this year didn't seem as festive because there were not as many decorations and the huge fireplaces were off most of the time. The place seemed so plain and sad for this time of the year. This morning at breakfast time the restaurant opened 30 minutes later than it should've and the server didn’t show up. It's seems as if under staffed. They are usually top notch but this year was just not as good. Pretty disappointed.

My experience at Unicoi State Park and Lodge was excellent. It is not too far from the main places in Helen and the location is very quite and comfortable. I also need to say they have a very professional and respectful team members because I lost my golden necklace from my childhood and they recovered for me and sent it inside the envelope you see on the pictures. That was a valuable action for me and I will always be thankful for that. Thanks!!!

Stayed in a 2-bedroom barrel cabin. Sparse is a good word to describe it. Beds were comfortable enough, sofa bed was horrible. Kitchen was very minimally stocked with very worn pots/pans and missing utensils. Dishes were dirty. Will stay at a hotel next time. Location was good though…scenic and close to Helen.

Used to be nice years ago. Now it's nasty and disgusting, even before the sewage spill. I would like to know how they are going to clean it up considering it hasn't been done before now

I love fishing on this river! It's just down the road from where I live. You can catch anything from small bream (bluegill, sunfish, rock bass), to crappie, to perch, to largemouth bass, to shoal bass, to chain pickerel, to striped bass, to hybrid bass, to white bass, to flathead Catfish, to channel Catfish, to long longnose gar, to bowfin, to carp in this river.

Went tubing on the Chattahoochee years ago. Really fun!

Rowed on this river for four years. The hooch is a lil nasty, but that’s not its fault. It holds a special place in my heart. I’ve seen a lot of sunrises and sunsets on the river, and to its credit, they’re always beautiful. There’s also a walking trail beside the river that’s a great time!

We were excited to be able to see the river since we are big Alan Jackson fans.

Nothing to see here, if you've seen one river you've seen them all... Rocks here, water there, some beavers, turtles, gators, birds, velociraptors, foxes, etc.

Fun river for activities. The Troup and West Point stretch has a few small runs. Very good beginner float. There will be lots of trash after rains. We always pack out a small trash bag of trash when we leave. Good luck! BTW, I'm on YouTube!

Really great experience! My Fiancée and I visited last month during our holiday vacation to try out their selection of wine. They definitely had a great variety and a wine for every taste. We loved the Scarlett wine! Will definitely come back when we return to Helen.

A bit disappointed. Read so many good reviews and was excited to come only to be greeted with a bad attitude. It was pretty disheartening but oh well. We stayed because my bf kept trying to encourage us to not be brought down and still have a good time since I was so excited for this. For the wine tasting they just brought us a flight of wines that I ended up just choosing at random since there was no one to talk to us about the wines or give us recommendations. The wines were fine… upon buying two bottles of wine so that we can take it back with us, my bf was greeted with yet more bad attitude. Definitely will not be coming back again… this whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

Super cute winery we stopped by on our trip to Helen,GA. We have a split of wine tastes and we were pleased on both spectrums of the red and white options. Triesten (unsure of spelling, sorry love) was an adorable. He was very knowledgeable in all of the wines even though he is still young in his years 😉. There are a variety of knickknacks as well as some snacks. Tasting are 12.00. They also offered wine slushies for 10.00. They do offer a military discount for bottle wines, but not the tastings.

Did the Wine tasting. Jolene was our server. What a delightful experience she provided us! Her knowledge & manner was truly exceptional. Wines were great & we took a couple of Bottles with us back to Florida! Will definitely be back & recommend! Noel & America

We were visiting from Michigan and decided to do a wine tasting. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Louisa! Her knowledge of grapes, wine and the whole process was amazing! We have done taste testing for years and have never had an experience where we were so informed about wine. Thank you for the great experience!

Pretty good wines for Georgia. The Merlot and the Chardonay where are favorites. If in this corner of the world step inside for a tasting.

Nice winery just outside Helen. We stopped in to have some wine and beer while we rested our feet and ate some snacks. The outdoor seating area was nice and clean. The service was iffy but overall we enjoyed our visit.

A genuine wine tasting experience. Wish the wines had been better, but if you like sweet wines, you'll enjoy their offerings. Wishing I had bought a bottle of the Muscadine bubbly to take home.

Tina was so nice & knowledgeable about all the wine options. There is a variety of wine and beer options. They even have a fridge with juices and water for the kids for purchase. Clean and nice staff. There’s a nice patio to sit and sip.

Came for our honeymoon and had the best time. We had a great time during the wine tasting, and the wine slushies are delicious!! Ended up getting 4 bottles of wine and my husband discovered he loves wine after saying he hates it for years.

This is the same bridge that was featured in the movie “I’d Climb the Highest Mountain” with Susan Hayward (see 2nd photo). There are picnic benches on each side to hang out and have lunch by the Chickamauga Creek. It is vandalized by graffiti often. Occasionally people leave trinkets behind. Come at night if you want to say hi to some ghosts. Smallest covered bridge in Ga.

A nice covered bridge that is easy to find and walk across. There are numerous attractions in the Georgia mountains area and this is an easy one to visit and access. It is right off the main road and easy to find (and see) from the highway. There are gravel parking lots with 2 stone picnic tables and bear-proof trashcans on both sides of the bridge. So it would be good for a picnic. There is a fair amount of shade and trees near the edge of the parking lot and over the bridge and stream. There is an informational sign that you can read on the west side. The sign describes the history of the bridge and includes an appearance in the 1950 movie, “I'd Climb the Highest Mountain” starring Susan Heyward. The bridge is open to the public 24 hours and you can walk across the bridge and view it from both sides. The bridge construction is solid and explained on the sign. Unfortunately, it is covered in graffiti. The adventurous visitors can hike a few feet down to the river below the bridge and see from that new viewpoint. It is worth the trip if you can get there.

Nicely preserved Covered Bridge. Although I'm a fan of graffiti. This is more trash and defacement than art. So much for signs and cameras.

Lovely place to stop and see a beautiful covered bridge. Sadly, graffiti covers the majority of the inside. Still, you can see the charm and functionality of a cover protecting the boards that carry weight. Sans the cover and the life of the bridge would be dramatically less. The stream by it is pristine as well. Nice stop.

Neat little place. The graffiti is getting a little out of hand taking away some of the rusticness of it. So some respect people come on. But a cool Old bridge good photo opportunity for those looking for one for like family portraits or couple photos or something.

My friend and I came here for a picnic lunch and some people in a truck pulled up behind us and parked so close that we felt uncomfortable and had to leave. Bummer. The bridge was small and old, but really cool.

Nice little swimming hole and the bridge is neat, lots of signatures/graffiti. Two tables to eat at on the other side of the bridge. Other side of the bridge has an area to possibly fish depending on activity in the swimming hole area. It's deep enough to jump off the bridge but there are signs posted..no jumping off bridge ...possibly because it's the main road. Parking area does need some repaving.

Pretty cool local history here. The River is pretty. The water is really cold. There are a couple places to sit and have a nice bit of lunch. Too many bugs though. If you like history, check this place out.

This was a neat little place to stop and enjoy a quiet moment. It has a few tables to have a picnic by the stream. I just wish people hadn’t graffitied the inside of the bridge. My kid enjoyed himself.

As a tourist stop this one can be skipped. The old bridge is covered with graffiti. The parking area was not well kept up. Spend time at the beautiful nearby waterfalls and walking trails but this stop was not worth the trip.

Super cute. And SO MUCH DETAIL. When we went I think there was only 1 train working? But honestly it didn't even matter. There's just SO much to look at. Definitely worth the cost of entry. I'm pretty sure we spent a good 2-3 hrs in there, and there were loads of little fun things hidden around that kept the toddler completely occupied.

Very enjoyable experience. Was not expecting to be entertained as much. I'm not really interested in model trains, but the exhibit is very well done and there's lots to see. Would not recommend for young children since they won't be able to see over the railing. If you do bring small children, expect to hold them up most of the time so they can see the exhibit. There's several trains that move around tracks which can be entertaining. It's all enclosed in one room which you walk around. If in the area, I would recommend stopping by. It's not free, so expect to pay before heading in.

Absolutely loved Charlemagne’s Kingdom it was one of the best places to visit in in Helen if you love miniature stuff I love how they had a little UFO crash on the side of the mountain! So hilarious!

Great display!! Really enjoyed seeing all the detail and hard work involved. Staff were super friendly and answered all our questions. Strongly recommend visiting, especially for train nuts!

Fun place for railfans of all ages. Great details with a lot of whimsical touches. Not having a restroom hurts the rating by a star, but the delight my youngest shared at discovering all the little surprises earns a solid 4 stars.

Great place to visit. I was a little disappointed as they only had one train going when we went, but instead of charging us they asked for donations. Anyway the work and the level of detail is amazing. Definately a must see when you are in Helen!

Made me go back to my childhood! I was so excited by the whole setup - I used to dream of stuff like this as a kid. This exhibit is a little old and faded but still beautiful. I can only imagine all the love the owner has poured into this setup. Don't miss a chance to see it. Quietly take the whole scene in. Don't miss the football (soccer) ground!

We had a great time here with our 4 kids. Ask for the scavenger hunt. The museum has a gift shop with Melissa and Doug train sets and some rock themed gifts. The model train room has two levels where we could see the mountain town from above and below. There were three trains running and the kids love following them around the room. We stayed for over an hour. Had to bribe the kids out of there. So many little things to see. The setup has some wear and tear but overall well maintained. Bathroom is off the gift shop. And can buy drinks there too. If you like this review tap the thumbs up.

Amazing model train setup with an incredible amount of detail. Being able to go look at it from the upper balcony is neat, since it gives you a better overall view and lets you see things you cant from the floor level.

The more time you spend here, the more you will appreciate the beauty of it. There is so much detail to everything, like people playing, an accident, fire at a building, farmers etc. When I visited, there were only 2 trains running, it would so much better when they have all the trains up and running, but the cashier gave a discount to make it up.

This is the burial mound of Sautee and Nacoochee. According to the legend of Sautee and Nacoochee. Here is a brief summary of the tale- The Chickasaw and Cherokees we're constantly at war with each other. During a moment of truce, the Chickasaw tribe was allowed to rest on Cherokee land. This is when Sautee, the son of the Chickasaw Chief’s meets and falls in love with Nacoochee, the daughter of the Cherokee Chief. Nacoochee's father, Chief Wahoo, instead of seeing this as a peace opportunity between the two tribes is blinded by hate and orders Sautee to be thrown off of the cliffs of Yonah Mountain. Nacoochee escapes her restraints and jumps after him. At the foot of the cliff, their fierce love allows them to embrace one last time and they perish locked together.

It's interesting reading about how and why these are formed. You can only see it from the road. It's protected on private land.

Very cool slice of history to see while in the area. Hard to park though, located on a busy street. Wish you could get out and walk closer as this picture was taken with my back pressed against the car pulled over on the road.

I Went once almost 30 or so years ago, while still in attendance at Sarah Rawson Smith elementary school, I was so blessed for that opportunity and that 🫡 “M&M program” and them long bus rides from the West Side on N.Side Dr. (playing BINGO 🤣) it’s because of that and those awesome field trips!! that exposure, stimulation it’s places like here, for me and those with similar situations like mine, from so-called “under privileged” areas or backgrounds it (honestly) made you really feel like a “Super Stars” … and continues for me currently (obviously) 🤣🫡😎 #SarahSmithElementary #superstars 🌟✨💫

I love comin here just to think and check out how beautiful it is. So much history behind this property, you should learn about it. It’s a must visit if you’re anywhere in north Georgia.

It’s history! What more can be said? It’s an Indian burial ground. It should be respected with honor. Is it history that we should never forget our ancestors and the role they played in established us as a free nation. We should remember that was history and it is historical.

There it is. That's pretty much it, with Yonah Mountain in the background. It's fenced off so you can't walk up close to it. There's a shoulder right off the road for a few cars to pull over. But it's part of our history and I'm glad it has been preserved.

You can't walk up to it or around it, since it's in the middle of a huge cow pasture, but there is a pull off with an informational sign and take pictures. During the Hardman Farm tour across the street, they told us it was the 2nd most photographed site in Georgia, after stone mountain. I'm not sure that's true but I did take several pictures!

Cool local Indian history. Good thing it can only be viewed from a distance. Small road pull off, but the calves were curious and photogenic.

It's a beautiful view! You can observe it from a distance but it's still an amazing place! Don't miss Hardman Farm right next to it, it's beautiful!

The two women working in the welcome center last Sat. were the most unknowledgable that I have ever seen in a visitor's center. They barely spoke when we came in the door. They acted as though they didn't know the place where we were staying and it was on the same street within walking distance. Come on, it's a small town. They didn't know where the items in the display case were purchased. We happened to run upon one item before we left town. Aren't you supposed to be promoting your city? If you don't like your job, give it to someone with more enthusiasm. You are sometimes the first people see when they come into town. Do better.

Front desk information specialist provided the perfect information and plan for our short trip at Helen Perfect customer service .. If you are visiting Helen you will get free parking space next to welcome centre . From free parking area to Helen downtown is just less than a mile in distance and avoids paying $10 parking fee at other parking areas ..

First of all my heart vanilla chai was not hot and the flavor was very very strong and I could actually taste mold in the drink, needless to say the pot needs to be cleaned out and someone needs to learn how to make a hot vanilla chai. I tried to call them to explain this to them and the phone rang and rang and then it finally said this phone number was not set up to take messages goodbye. I do not blame the little girl that made it she was sweet

What a fun little Bavarian town. Super nice with the Christmas lights lit. Food was very good also. Plenty of hotel options.

I have never felt so unwelcome at a “welcome Center” ! Julie was nice at first but both her and her coworker Alta were extremely rude, especially Alta, She took it upon herself to yell at my oldest son because my 1 year old was laughing and screaming and running around. My oldest had no idea why she was yelling at him. She embarrassed and disrespected my son! She made my whole family uncomfortable and to keep the peace we didn’t say anything to her about the situation until we took the kids outside. She was rude to my husband after telling her he didn’t appreciate the way she yelled at our son. She completely ruined the Helen experience. As someone who works at a welcome center I’m sure she should know that people drive from far away and kids get excited to be out of the car especially a toddler. Definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone to stop by here.

This is a beautiful German Style City! We was there a coupe of days ago and it’s a wonderful place ;0) The food (specially the German food) is amazing, they have a bunch of small pubs and coffee shops where you can enjoy hot chocolate or drinks. This is a perfect place to walk around and take wonder full pictures. It’s a small city that you can explore in half a day just walking around

Helen Georgia is a charming little alpine town. There are plenty of interesting shops, resteraunts & bars and hotels /cabins to ensure you have a great time. The alpine sledding is a lot of fun. During the Christmas season, the town goes all out to decorate and is wonderfully festive! My recommendation is to stay in a cabin or one of the chain hotels. Some of the mom and pop motels have their challenges. Great place for summertime exploring as well.

My friend and I came to Helen to celebrate my birthday. It was very nice drive and because this was my friends first time visiting and I had visited in years we decided to stop in Welcome Center to get advice on things to do for the afternoon. The staff was friendly and helpful and even gave us free map and coupons which we later used to save 10% on our lunch.

A great Welcome Center! The two ladies who were manning the desk today were wonderful! Both were friendly, and gave our group of three lots of information and handouts about Helen and nearby Anna Ruby Falls. And, the restrooms were clean.

Nice and beautiful place. We were enjoyed our time alot. Will be back and discover some other Falls.

Dukes Creek Mines is well worth the price!!!! We did the large Gem bucket white tier and split it between the two kids. They both got an amazing amount of rocks and gems. The man working that day was so amazing to our family and let our kids crack open two Geodes!!!! Dukes is located right outside of Helen and Clarksville and absolutely worth visiting!!!!

A place that has been open for over 50 years by the same family! When you meet the owner, Dave, you know why. A GREAT guy who knows his stuff. Costs you nothing to pan for gold or gems. Their shop is full of awesome one of a kind gifts too.

Our girls loved it. Clean areas to sit and the gems and stuff are in a dandy mix and not red staining dirt like another place we tried. Guy and his daughter were super friendly, and my girls kept pulling out their finds so he could identify them for them! We picked them because they had a fossil bucket option.

Let this Texan tell you! DUKES CREEK is amazing and well worth the price. We did a deluxe bucket and split it between 3 adults and 1 child. We came just an hour before close (completely unintentional) and Zach was the absolutely kindest, friendly, and hilarious soul I met in Georgia. He explained everything so it was simple! His customer service was what made most the experience. Plus you get what you pay for! We had a lot of sapphires and rubies!! This gem mining experience sits just outside of Helen. It's a great activity for kids and families. Not to mention it was well kept and is covered just in case it rains on you like it did us. ALSO Zach looks out for military and their families!! I do not recommend going anywhere but here! But if you do you should visit their other location on main St Helen it's called Outpost gem mining and jewelry store. Here you will meet Ryan and Zach as well where they will help you identify your finds and get you set up with stone cutting and setting your find into jewelry! I honestly can't say enough about such a positive experience that they both provided! Thank you gentleman! on just a side note I hope you guys extend your online stores to include like your deluxe buckets I WOUlD DEFINITELY BUY!

Even though it is open 6 months of the year, I went in February for my Dad’s birthday, yes it was closed but looking around was surprised that the gate was fully open and the facility unattended. It be nice to have private openings for the other 6 months though. I will return during the summer months next time, since all family members have their birthdays during winter except me… 😞 unfortunately I won’t be able to visit during my birthday this year since been sick so hopefully next year Do y’all have birthday specials???

Everything that interested me was just way over-priced. It seems to them that if it fits on a shelf it is worth $8+ no matter what it is, old, new, junk,doesn’t matter. There is also just so much to look through it can be overwhelming. Definitely quantity over quality here though.

we come here about 7-8 times a year when we visit Helen. We always find things we like, but today the customer service was just lacking. The minute I walked in with my one year old in my arms I got a look from the lady behind the counter. Then when my husband went and dropped his items he said “I am going to start a pile.” She said nothing. Then when he checked out she was just absolutely unfriendly. We antique often and 9/10 the people at the places are so friendly and welcoming. Here’s the fact: this isn’t a grocery store or gas station. It’s not stuff you need. Therefore we won’t be returning when visiting Helen. You can’t have a store that is not a necessity and treat people poorly. I wasn’t surprised to see previous recent bad reviews saying the same about the service. If you don’t like your job please hire people who do. It goes a long way.

This store is well organized as they have a huge collection of antiques and more recent items. You will need a lot of time to look at everything. It was somewhat overwhelming as there were a few floors and many rooms full of thousands upon thousands of items on shelves to see. If you're a collector of random things, you will probably find something here. It's worth the drive if you're within an hour or two. If you're visiting Helen and looking for something to do, it's worth checking out as the store itself is neat to walk through.

These are absolute Great places to find one of a kind items. The prices are higher because of the location but the quality of three items make up the differences.

I love stores like this one! There are three stories of old stuff, packed in tight. You have to take your time to see what is in there. The store is in a beautiful house built in 1976.

First time in Helen on a mother daughter trip and decided to stop by the Antique Mall before going into the winery next door, and I'm so glad we did! We were able to find the perfect set of Royal Warwick Lochs of Scotland china for my cabinet in my new home. Fawn was more than helpful and we really appreciate her enthusiasm. We were able to fill the cabinet, make memories, and meet great people while we were there. Thank you Fawn and everyone else at Nacoochee Antiques!

While traveling through Helen, stopped here. Didn't know stores hours, but since this is resort area, thought they'd be open late. Upon entering instead of being warmly greeted, were curtly told we had less than 15 minutes to shop on first floor only. Gee, nothing like feeling "welcome". Most antique stores welcome your business and are willing to stay a little past closing. Apparently not so here. This mall/store is packed with lots of items, so if you are a vintage collector, it will take an hour or more to go through. Since this is resort area, prices are eBay similar. Although it is fun to hunt.

Holy cow!three stories of a really neat house with more antiques I have ever seen. Male sure you leave ALOT of time for yourself to see everythjng vintage from A to Z. WORTH the trip and the items bring back many memories from my own childhood!

So excited to stumble across this place! I love thrifting and antiquing so seeing this 3 STORY shop was like heaven. Taking my time strolling through the rooms and the levels. There was so much to look at and even more I wanted to by. I managed to hold back and only walked out with a vintage Wizard of Oz Dorothy porcelain doll for the low price of $20! As a Wizard of Oz lover and collector, being able to add this to my collection made my heart so happy. We will definitely stop here every trip.

My husband and I were visiting for our 1 year anniversary. We saw this pink globe and thought it would be so cute for our daughter’s room as a piggy bank but decided not to buy it. 2 weeks later we lost my husband in a tragic car accident our daughter was 9 weeks old. I called and asked if they had the globe still months later and they did. They were so kind to look for it & ship it to me .

There are 3 floors of vintage and antique items at the Nacoochee Village Antique Mall. Honestly I do believe there is something for everyone. The house itself is a wonder let alone all of the goodies inside. If you like antiquing and you are near Helen Ga, you should stop here. Go across the street to see the Mill too! It is beautiful.

Unique treasures and collectibles can be found right here. Huge assortment!! I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door. There is plenty of parking right infront and a winery next door.

Beautiful spot! Wetlands Loop (1/2 mile) is a great easy hike but be aware: loop does not begin until after a 1.2 mile hike on paved road. And this is rather hilly and steep in some spots. Beautiful woods—should be lovely later this spring!

This is a cute little state park that’s close to home. It’s more of place to go for a nice walk or to enjoy a picnic rather than to stay at though. The cabin prices are OUTRAGEOUS and there’s not much to do there, but the staff is just wonderful. The rangers are so nice and they have a really cool section in the gift shop of all kinds of animals and information. It’s small and quaint, but not too much for the kids to do. And for real, like $400-500 a night for the cabins…no way.

We only spent a little bit of time here visitor center is absolutely fantastic. However, any place that can charge $1000 a night for a cabin (in October) I don’t care where it is, is an absolutely ridiculous place. The whole area is very strange and it’s not your normal state park. It looks like this place is a for-profit company run by the Ritz Carlton. With the rates that they charge on their cabins. I just don’t get it.

I was there 3/10/24. It's a nice park. It was very easy to get to. My friend has AT&T had internet service. I did not with Verizon. I would be cautious about bringing your dog unless he/she is used to hiking with you. Otherwise I would walk my dog on the level areas. The only restrooms i saw were by the visitor's office. I didn't see a playground nor a picnic area. Maybe they were in a different area. There were more trails to be found if you left the park and went a little ways down the road. Thats what we were told by the person in the visitor's office. The trail we were on was nice. Pace yourself. The trails could be marked more clearly. Apparently the trails do not overlap. We were a little confused with the trail map. I think the people in the visitor's office should be able to explain the trails a little more clearly. But all in all, we had a great time and will be back again.

We hiked this trail on 1/21/23 (Pato's Gotcha Day!!!). We only did the Martins Mine Trail. As pups, we did enjoy this trail. There were lots of smells and very little people. Something that, as pups, that wasn't our favorite about the trail was 80% of the trail was paved and felt like we were walking down the highway. It's not great on our puppy joints, and it was boring for Mom, Dad, and quite frankly us. We did LOVE the trail once we got to the Martins Mine Trail. It was a very narrow trail, but honestly that was fun! The waterfall was beautiful and we enjoyed taking pictures with Mom and Dad! We definitely want to come back and do other trails!

Did the Laurel Ridge trail, 1.6 miles for a whole loop. Was very hot but the view on top was good. Note that there is only one resting bench at the view point.

We did the Laurel trail. It is 1.6 miles. Great for a family with kids and a dog. The view from the clearing was spectacular. The weather was a bit chilly, but no ice to deal with. I imagine on an icy day it would be tough to do. There are no trash cans on hike; however, the people were respectful enough to not litter.

Had a great hike with my wife and pups. It's not too steep up, then the view of Yonah Mtn is beautiful! It's a little steep on the way down but not bad. There's a cute little area to picnic and a visitors center. Don't forget to check in there to pay for parking!

Wonderful state park with many northern forest trails to delight. The Laurel Ridge Trail is closest to the visitor center and offers interesting sights, vegetation, and a guided trail map of landmarks. The best vista is a southern view of Yonah Mountain and Sal Mountain, with a bench to pause and take in the serenity. Walk it year round.

We came early to avoid heat of summer sun. it was quite relaxing to hike or walk through trails at Smithgall Woods State Park, it's relatively easy 6 miles, very quiet. At end of Martin Mine trail, I decided to climb to the top of that small fall, after struggling quite bit with thick woods, managed to get on Shackletford Road, then I had to take off shoes to get cross that creek. That's bit of adventure for myself, I enjoyed it:)

We hiked the Laurel Ridge Trail with our pet dog. It was a nice walk with some fairly steep parts. The summit was nice. There is a bench there and you can see several nearby mountains. Yonah mountain is easy to see from there.

A great moderate hike. Active dog friendly and a great view at the top. Bring plenty of water. The trail is shaded the whole way. Took about an hour with stopping for pictures. Bathrooms and gift shop at the parking lot.

Lovely hidden gem in the heart of Helen! Very nice playground perched on top of a hill. However some of the equipment is in dire need of a few coats of paint, the metal shows through in large spots. Did not see any public restrooms immediately available but there are some about a block or two down the street. The parking lot can't be seen from the main road, you have to turn up a twisty little hill road and the parking is at the top. Do not recommend trying to push a stroller up from the bottom unless you're in excellent shape, the hill is quite steep.

Our first experience with this park, it was mostly new. It is still a great place to bring the little ones. Helem needs to pay this wonderful place a bit of TLC. Fresh paint, some minor repairs. Again, our little one loves this place lol

Nice park for kids to play in. It’s designed in dinosaur theme. Park is nearly 90% shaded which is amazing. No restrooms at the location but there is a public restroom a block or two done the street. Love to he park benches and swing sits to enjoy the area as well. Trash cans are on site if you are wanting to bring food and eat while the kids play.

Great playground for the kids, and plenty of benches and porch swings for the parents/grandparents. Nice walking paths for dog-walking and restrooms nearby. We will definitely stop by again when spending the day in Helen!

We loved it! It was not difficult at all. A few switch backs but not what you typically think of when you hear that. They were very gradual and manageable. The trail is wide and well groomed. It was gorgeous. I would imagine a completely different scene during the summer.

Free parking, nice nature walk, and visit Alana Falls

My kids have a lot of fun at this park. It is also really shaded which I love. There are bench swings and benches to sit on while the kids are playing. The gazebo is beautiful and we love the little waterfall (Alana Falls). The landscaping is beautiful as well. There are nearby bathrooms in the downtown shopping/restaurant area.

Very beautiful little State park. Starts right about from where the North main Street of Helen starts. Entry is free. Perfect for a family picnic or even kids. There are picnic shelters also in the park. It looked unbelievable when there were Christmas lights. It looks stunning at late evenings. The view from the park is also great. Plenty of photoshoots take place during the day in the park. Parking could be an issue, but there are plenty of paid parking options nearby. Overall a great experience. Would surely recommend.

This is a great clean park in downtown Helen. The equipment is suitable for children 5 and over. There are some swings for the little ones. The slides are really steep though, quite scary but maybe a little rush for the littles.

This park just keeps getting better and better. I proposed to my wife here in October of 2016 when the leaves were changing, and we kept going back every year to enjoy the park and enjoy helen. We now have kids, and they love it! I would definitely check it out. They are always updating it, so every year, there's something new to it!

A great little park! There is a playground, a little covered bridge over a waterfall, and a big gazebo overlooking the main square. It is a hill, so you're walking up steps/uphill. A trail to the Unicoi Lodge leads from the back of the parking lot. I feel sure you aren't supposed to park here to explore the town but we did (understanding it was the additional parking for Hofer's and that's where we were headed) and no one stopped us.

We had an absolutely beautiful adventure traveling to this waterfall. When you first turn on the road that heads to the campground it can be a bumpy ride but you really don’t need a 4x4 whatsoever to get there. If you’re in a low profile vehicle you’ll want to drive slowly but you won’t have problems riding the 5 miles or so in. In your way to the campground entrance which is how you get to the main waterfall you’ll see a smaller waterfall right away that worst stopping at for a few minutes. I’ve included photos of that in the beginning of my review. Eventually you’ll hit a parking lot where you can’t go any further (gate) when you go in the winter months and the campground is closed. You can park right there and there are a good number of parking spots there. When you cross the gate it’s a few minute walk down a rock covered path to get there. You’ll see some beautiful nature (see my pics) and then you will hit a bridge over a creek which is also beautiful (pics included). Then you’ll be able to see the waterfall soon after. There is an observation deck where you can view the entire falls but if you walk around that on the right you can walk right up to the falls. It wasn’t difficult to cross from rock to rock to get right up to it. It was so beautiful and majestic in person. We loved how lucky we were to be the only people there at the time we arrived. When we left we took the road that curves to the right and followed that Forest Service Road out about 7 miles where you pass Jesus campground and another campground. It follows along the Chattahoochie River and it’s such a beautiful drive where you’ll see another small low waterfall (see my pics) and then another. The mountains views on this way out were also a site to stop for! I included a video so you can see what the Forest Service Roads are like while driving. Definitely make the drive to this beautiful area!! It’s so worth it. Would be awesome in the summer to hang at the waterfall and cool off.

Cool waterfall accessible through the Upper Chattahoochee Campground. The drive in after turning off the Unicoi Turnpike is a little over 4 miles on a pretty narrow and sometimes bumpy gravel/dirt road. Don’t need 4x4 to traverse but if traffic coming from opposite direction, you will need to find a spot to pull over to let traffic pass if you’re lucky enough to be near a wider portion, or back up until you reach one which can be interesting. Once to the campground it’s a really easy walk through the campground to the waterfall. There’s a small wooden deck there for observation or you can go past it and walk right up to the base of the fall. Warning, the rocks are very slick, our daughter took a short fall slipping on a rock. We watched another group walk further up and a gentleman in that group took a big slip and fell completely in the water. Potential for injury and no phone signal to call for help so be very careful. Great place to explore with the kids, probably nice spot to dip your feet in during warmer months.

Beautiful falls to visit. The hike there was okay and the scenery was beautiful. Worth the hike to see the beautiful falls.

The ride up was extremely scary. Most of the time you’re on a narrow, bumpy, dirt road up the mountain to the main campgrounds. Once up at the top you hike for about a mile to the water. It is beautiful and with the 30 minute drive up the mountain

I visited recently after it having been closed for quite some time. These falls are wonderful! The drive in is 5 miles of a very poor road, but the destination makes it worthwhile. It’s a short hike to the falls, so I parked in the very first parking area in order to add to my hike. The trail is an easy hike and the falls are bigger than I anticipated, plus you can get pretty close. I teamed this hike with Anna Ruby Falls and Duke’s Creek, and what a day!

We went here for the first time today, good bit of a drive to get there. I'd recommend a jeep or truck as the road is dirt and uneven. The waterfall is breath taking! Perfect for the whole family. Even a little spot for kids to swim in.

The drive in after turning off the Unicoi Turnpike is a little over 4 miles on a pretty narrow and sometimes bumpy gravel/dirt road. Don’t need 4x4 to traverse but if traffic coming from opposite direction, you will need to find a spot to pull over to let traffic pass if you’re lucky enough to be near a wider portion, or back up until you reach one which can be interesting. Once to the campground it’s a really easy walk through the campground to the waterfall. There’s a small wooden deck there for observation or you can go past it and walk right up to the base of the fall. Warning, the rocks are very slick, our daughter took a short fall slipping on a rock. We watched another group walk further up and a gentleman in that group took a big slip and fell completely in the water. Potential for injury and no phone signal to call for help so be very careful. Great place to explore with the kids, probably nice spot to dip your feet in during warmer months.

The road is closed indefinitely (as of December 29, 2020) from the Unicoi Turnpike (75) and the only open option is via the Chattahoochee River Road and Low Gap Campground. Long unpaved road but in relatively good condition even for a small car like a Ford Focus. Very short walk from the parking area to the falls.

This is an awesome little break from the chaos of the tourist crush. The video presentation is nice, as well as a model of the Indian mound just outside of town. The local crafts were lovely. If you have any interest in local arts and crafts or history, stop in.

We did a Bob Ross painting class here while on a girl’s trip. Anne did an amazing job teaching us and we ended up with such a cool piece of art! Highly recommend.

Cute little place, spent about 30-45 minutes here. Nice artwork and gift shop with original art for sale. Free.

We popped into this place by accident as we were strolling the streets of Helen, what luck! We were greeted immediately by the friendly team that works there, learned about the history of Helen, and then hit up the Gift Shop which was the highlight for me. We ended up purchasing 4 ceramic little sculptures made by the artists Jaymi Hampton (she calls them FNERs) and she was so lovely to talk to brought life to our little creatures. I highly recommend this place!

Some nice art but I mostly enjoyed the history section were I got to see the history of Helen which was pretty cool to watch.

This is a great opportunity to get local art at a reasonable price. Also has a museum of Helen GA, and other local interests. Definitely recommend this place!

A must see, they have a museum and movie showing the history of Helen and the birth of the Alpine theme. The other half of the building is crafts and art work from local residents. The pottery is very nice and coming from North Carolina priced reasonable. I highly recommend a visit.

We visit every year for Octokber fest...it's an amazing time and family friendly!
