One of the most beautiful locations in Kerala. The lake is spread over a vast area. Its a man made lake (Result of a Dam) . Boat ride is very good. Can get a chance to see number of Species of Birds and Animals. Take the jungle trail to get really close to the nature. Very popular among the tourists.

Beautiful lake, well maintained, the boat trips are long enuf though frequency is less. Cudnt see animals during the visit. Would have been better if the elephants were around.

Visited this lake the first time in 2008 and went boating but found the experience very average. The boats were also very unsafe and very badly managed. This time when i went with family it was good too see that the boats are now better managed and it's much safer. The lake is beautiful and the ride is good. However, of you don't see many animals, which you may not , don't get disappointed. It's how it is. There is good bird spotting though. Overall a doable visit if in thekkady. But don't go if you're expecting to see tigers and elephants.

One of the most famous lakes in Kerala is in Periyar. The Periyar Lake is often also referred to as the Thekkady Lake. However, its unmistakable location inside the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary has ensured that it’s widely known by the name of Periyar Lake. Governed by the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, the lake sees footfalls of hundreds of thousands each year. Interestingly, this lake was created artificially when Kerala’s longest river, Periyar or Mullaperiyar, was dammed in 1895. The Mullaperiyar Dam formed the present day Periyar Lake which is spread across 10 square miles or 26 square kilometres. This reservoir is famous for its water birds which can be observed from close quarters when you go boating on the lake. Periyar Lake is inside a protected area and contributes to the conservation of plants, fowl, fish and wild animals, some of which are rare, endemic and also endangered. Periyar Lake Timings & Fee for Boating Although the timings for boating in the Periyar Lake and its charges are separate from that of the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary, one has to first enter the national park to be able to access the lake. Therefore, you pay two sets of entry fees and adhere to both the timings. The park is open in all seasons from 6 AM to 7 PM every day. For Indians, the entry fee is INR 45 for adults and INR 15 for kids, whereas for foreigners, the fee is INR 500 for adults and INR 180 for kids. Additionally, still cameras are charged INR 38 and video cameras, INR 300. Binoculars are available on rent at INR 50, with a 100-rupee security deposit. These come particularly handy in sighting birds and animals that are far off. Now, the Periyar Lake levies a charge of INR 225 for adults and INR 75 for children for each boat ride which lasts for an hour and a half. There are designated timings for boating: 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:15 AM, 1:45 PM and 3:30 PM. Mornings are recommended for birders whereas afternoon slots are highly conducive to sightings of wild animals who reach the lake to quench their thirst. History Behind the Periyar Lake While the Periyar National Park goes far back in time, the lake has its own history. In 1895, the Mullaperiyar Dam was built over the Periyar River. A few years later, in 1899, the Periyar Lake Reserve was formed through the efforts of this masonry gravity dam. The lake remained mostly untouched while the surrounding forested area saw a slew of change in ownership and status from that of a private game reserve to a wildlife sanctuary, and to finally a national park. Layout of Periyar Lake The Periyar Lake is located at the centre of the Periyar National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary. It covers a total area of 10 square miles or 26 square kilometres. The lake has the lowest altitude in the Periyar forest complex, at 100 metres above the sea level. This lake is the final drainage reservoir for the Periyar River, which is the longest in Kerala. Also the Mullayar River can be said to be a contributor to the waters of the Periyar Lake as it is also dammed by the Mullaperiyar Dam which sits at the confluence of both the rivers. The waters of the Periyar Lake further drain out to the state of Tamil Nadu and partially to the Kerala district of Idukki, through the Idukki Dam which fills the Idukki Lake.

Beautiful ferry ride. To enjoy beauty of nature please go in first ferry 7.30 am. Seen bison and Elephant on distant hill. Beware of Monkeys... First you have to buy entrance ticket and ride ticket to boat station. As private cars are not allowed to enter in forest. Then from boat station buy boat rides tickets.

Well organized & maintained forest reserve. Gov. Buses will take you to the lake side with minimal charges but avoid long weekends & public holidays.. too crowded than..boat ride is of 90 mins roaming around the Periyar lake & if lucky may see some wild animals.. Inquire abt the jungle track, night Safari etc. Good options available..

If you are fond of Boat journey will be good for you. You have to take bus to reach the boating site otherwise need to walk for 2.5 otherwise. Again if you are new to the Kerala greenery, it will be a good experience otherwise you might feel bored. If you are lucky you can see wild animals during the boat journey.

It was one wonderful experience I really enjoyed there, what a climate man !! Such a amazing place to visit in Thekkady . It been a One & half an hour boat ride. I went in the batch of (3.30 to 5 pm ) ride one beautiful evening I say because while I'm riding on a boat it started rain so I got a cool experience and I too watched Deer, Bison 🦬 and such birds. So if your on the way go and visit without fail

The overall experience was great, although we did not get to see any animals. However, the boating experience was fantastic. For those planning to book a boat ride, I would recommend booking an evening boat as the chances of spotting animals are higher during that time.

If a traveller or visitor, Need to buy both bus and entrance fare at the booth in one of the grounds (65rs for Indians). Else can take the own hevicle at the particular Cost Board the bus beside which takes in to the park Walk around 1 on to enter the boating area 255rs for each boating ticket and boats are expected to arrive only at particular timings Boat ride was picturesque and pleasant for around 30 min. Do to spend extra money renting / buying binoculars Expected to see tiger, elepHants or wild animals but ended up with monkeys Do not waste time not standing in the queue while returning. Else another hour or 2 hours to catch the bus

Nice place , good big reserve with wild animals, good variety of flora and fauna. Jeep Safari are available in Thekkady city who can take here. Govt Jeep charges 2500, for Sathram area safari. Weather was excellent for us, clouds and mist all over. Could spot only bison n deer sambar, no tiger but overall good experience

One of the best experiences I've had visiting a national park, they have numerous activities planned, creating a balance between sustainable tourism and a fun experience. While visiting the national park one has to remember that your safety is of utmost priority for officials and also that these national parks are the last remaining undisturbed homes of these few remaining wild animals. Hence their ways have to be protected, which is why officials have in place certain rules and regulations which have to be followed at all times. Rest you are in great hands, these guys will try their best to give you the most wonderful experience of the national park, however since it's a huge national park 925 sq. Kms to be precise you may or may not spot "the tiger". Having visited 12 national parks till now, I can tell you with experience that it's not always about "the tiger" or "the elephant" or "the rhino". National parks are an abode of nature, they are the closest demonstrations of a world without urbanization, jungle life to be precise. And that is their precious offering which one can appreciate above all. I would recommend nature walks for people who have less time, border walk or full day trek for people with trekking experience and a day to spare. However my favourite was tiger trail a 1/2 night stay depending upon your choice. It's the best experience.

The periyar tiger reserve boat ride gives you the chance to be in nature. Try to get the boat ride tickets for 7:30AM to 9 AM. The weather will be pleasant and less rush for the ride. Carry pullover or sweater with you, as it will be cooler as we go deeper in the lake. The chances of seeing wildlife is very rare. However, you get chance to get witness the beautiful scenery. Please ensure you arrive at the ticket counter at 45 minutes before the ride time. Buses will take to boat landing point which is around 4KM from ticket counter. Online booking is available which will help you to jump the queue and save lot of your time.

Best time to visit in the early morning that is before 7 am...or at the evening.... any time other is not gonna be great. Beautiful fog in the morning,Nature walk at that time is awesome. If you are going for boating, best to go in evening. I went on the first trip, didn't see any more than 2 deers. The place itself is amazing in all other ways.

Boat ride is purely based on luck and when you go. If you are lucky you will see more animals. They have other activities such as tiger trail, nature walk, night trail so on. Enquire and book before going. I booked a slot at 11:15. Expected it to be scorching hot, but it was a very pleasant boat ride. The boat had a roof and it was full windy. But was not lucky enough to see any animals other than few sambhar deers.

One of the best boating experience. Not exhilarating. But a calm, beautiful sail. We received tickets as a part of jungle camp package. But for direct visitors booking advance tickets is recommended.

This national park is extremely awesome! Went for the Nature Walk. Our guide Vinod took us on an adventure which I’m very thankful for. He explained everything in detail and took good care of us. We were very lucky and saw elephants twice. The second time it was a group of 4 and one of them was a baby about 5 month old. They were blocking the footpath and Vinod organised a small boat for us to get back.

The morning batch boating is best if you want to some wild animals. Our forest department and government should consider early boating like at 6.00 AM and also evening boating after 5.00 PM. It's will give more possibility to see wild animals .

Very nice Ghat section with huge trees and floral. It's better to walk from the entrance check post to the Thekkady Boating, if you would like to feel refreshed and energized. We were there early in the morning and started walking in, instead of waiting for the Forest department bus. It was a very pleasant walk, breathing fresh aromatic air. There are a few selfie spots and art work on the way. There was a turtle shaped Cafe, which was closed, but looked very nice.

We travelled from our hotel to their pick up point where we found the buses. After arriving at the pick up point you need to buy the tickets for the national park and bus ride. Then they take you to the boating point from where the you can access the boats. You can buy binoculars here for viewing the animals that are hidden in the dense forest. They cost around Rs.50 and Rs 1000 deposit along with your ID card. Then the boat ride starts at their estimated time, takes you for a 60-90 minutes ride around the lake. You can find few wildlife to see their if you are lucky enough. We could only see a few deers on the entire boat ride. According to me, the ride was not worth it as the boat was very slow and most of the people where bored sitting in there as they couldn't find any wildlife to see around. Also, you can book tickets online for the Periyar tiger reserve, but you can also find offline tickets as 20% of the tickets are sold offline. You can just skip this National Park if you are in a hurry.

It was an amazing experience. There were different programs available for exploring the forest. We did a jungle scout program. It is a night trucking program in the jungle, it has a three time slot we opt for 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM. It was a very adventurous experience, at night we can see animals. And also experience the night life in the jungle. The boating experience was also very good

It is very peaceful on the water, but suggest making sure you get a water side seat on the more modern boats. Watching the monkeys playing and trying to steal food was fun. The gift shop was very reasonably priced. You will likely see some birds and deer, but not much else in the boat trip, but you never know….

Did border trekking in a group of 6, with two guides and one riffle man. Beautiful views, lots of birds, we've also seen multiple bison, deer and an elephant family with a baby. Trek itself is very doable, no major ascents, but it's a long day from 8am to 4pm with 2 solid breaks. Wear good shoes, long trousers, lots of sunscreen, hat. They provide decent lunchbox, fruit and water (and backpack to carry it), but we also used up water we brought, total 1.5L per person. Rs 2000 per person for trek and Rs 500 for park entry. Don't think they allow to go without the guide since there are wild animals and the path is not really visible.

Beautifully green park that has over 500 elephants and 45 tigers. I did the border hiking I booked online on the official site. The hike ended up being great, the guide and guard were so knowledgeable about the local fauna and flora, we even spotted 2 elephants again up close along with many other small animals. They explained that this is one of the activities they do as part of ecotourism so there are always people activity like in the 3 night tiger trek and others to discourage illegal mining and poaching.

Went safari. Roamed inside the tiger reserve. Good experience. Haven't seen any tigers. But possibly you can see other varieties of animals by lakeside if you have binocular or dslr. Try to get morning boat ride. It would be awesome. We missed that experience.

Very beautiful forest to visit. Definitely need few days to do boating, trekking and rafting. We had only 1 day so could go for boating only. Definitely will come back and stay in the resort in the forest for amazing experience.

This place is very near to rose garden. Wonderful experience. They have different plans. The elephant ride is good. This ride takes you through cardamom plantation. There will be crowd and it will take some time to get our turn

An amazing place to experience elephant ride. they have different packages offering various activities like elephant ride, bath and shower, feeding and logging. Tickets can be brought both online and offline. The prices may feel a little bit expensive but in the end of it you really come out full of enjoyment and an with an amazing experience. You also get to take photos with the elephants with their beautiful poses. A 1500rs per person package included :- 1. Elephant ride which lasted for more than an hour and the route was through adjacent forest like area. The trainer will be kind enough to take photos and record videos for you. 2. Photo shoot with elephants. 3. Elephant bath and shower. You get to experience bathing an elephant and in return the elephant gives you a shower :) while you are sitting on its back. 4. Feeding the elephant. We got to feed them bananas. 5. Tea and coffee Note : Carry a set of necessary clothes for the shower as you will get completely drenched in water :) There is dedicated changing room/bathroom available for cleaning yourself if you want and for changing clothes.

If you're looking for elephant safari , this is the perfect place for that. They charged us 400 per person and it's around half an hour ride . Ambiance is so good and the staffs are really polite. We totally enjoyed the ride .

Visited last week with my family, one person has received us and explained about different packages, he was expecting that we will take a big package, but we opted only for an elephant ride with 3 members, we have waited more than 30 minutes to start the ride, hardly 15 minutes ride for Rs.500 per person. There are only 6 elephants and they shuttle continuously with our any rest to them, really felt bad, after the ride they organised a photo session for us in between 2 elephants, that was a good part..may be it is nice for small children...not recommended for adults...

Had an amazing experience at Elephant Junction. It was my first time experiencing these mammoths this close. There are 4 female elephants at Elephant Junction which were rescued from circus and are now taken care at this facility. They offer elephant ride - which is a short 20-25mins ride through the plush cardamom plantations. They also have an option to bath the elephant and have a bath with the elephant. What I specifically liked about this place is that they always give priority to the animals and not the tourists. All these animals are well taken care of at this facility. If in Thekkady, this place should not be missed.

Amazing experience with elephants. Bathing , feeding and riding elephants all included here . Riding takes time if there are many tourists. They treat the elephants with care ...no abuse.

Had a wonderful experience at this tourist attraction in Thekkady. The elephants are clearly well looked after by the staff and a great relationship is clearly witnessed between animals and people. Very natural environment and a pleasure to have been here.

Nice place. The rides are nice but a little costly in the amount of money they charge. Sometimes the wait times are almost an hour or more but those who love animal rides, it's worth it. The elephants looked old and likely because they will be less aggressive than the younger ones. Safe rides and will be a fun with family. The staff was friendly and they provided all requested information.

If you’re visiting Thekkady you must visit Elephant junction. Make sure that you put this on your to do list. You won’t regret it. The place is well maintained, very clean and hygienic. All the staff (and when I say staff I would also like to include the elephants) are very friendly, helpful and very kind. They really made sure that we have fun and also connect with the elephants. A lot of information regarding elephants was also shared during the whole visit which I really appreciate. It was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to everyone who is planning to visit Thekkady. P.S Make sure you carry an extra pair of clothes if you’re going to go for the elephant bath.

Date of Visit 31.08.2023 It a ultimate place and worth visit with kids. There are 4 Elephants presently which are well trained. Enough games are arranged in package with Elephants. All staff is very gentle. Reaching before 10am is usefull. Tea/coffee also served after the activities. cafeteria is having a beautiful look and location. Enough parking space is available.

We had a great time at Elephant Junction! It was an unforgettable experience to ride and bath with an elephant. The elephants were well taken care of, well trained and treated respectfully! Definitely memories we will never forget!

In Thekkady, we explored a place called Elephant Junction, and it was a fantastic experience. First of all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The elephant ride was excellent and enjoyable. And the Elephant (Meena)  was just fantastic. My son was very happy and enjoyed a lot. Will tell our friends about this place. An unforgettable experience overall.

Elephant Junction, Thekkady is a wonderful place to visit if you love elephants and want to interact with them. You can choose from different packages depending on your time and budget. I visited Elephant Junction with my wife and we had a lovely time. The staff was very courteous and helpful, and they provided us with all the necessary equipment and instructions. We opted for the 30-minute ride, which was very enjoyable and relaxing. We got to see the natural beauty of the area and feel the gentle breeze. The elephants were very friendly and well-trained, and they seemed to enjoy our company as well. We paid INR 500 per person, which was worth every rupee. The park was clean and well-maintained, and they followed all the safety and hygiene protocols. We did not face any issues or problems during our visit. The best place in Kerala, maybe India, to spend time close to elephants. You can ride, feed bananas, watch them carry timber, bath them and finally have a clean shower from the trunk. Staff are very kind and knowledgeable. Elephants are healthy, happy, no chains. If you take the elephant bath and shower, the staff provide a clean towel, a plastic bag for wet clothes and a place to change and wash yourself. Excellent service. Can take tea or coffee afterwards in the little pavilion and enjoy the quiet. Whole place in a quiet peaceful forest outside of Kumily Thekkady has a magical atmosphere. I hope to return next year.

A place to experience elephant by seeing them doing timber lift, elephant ride, feeding feeding an elephant and shower with them. Plus, you get a chance to get photos clicked with elephant. I believe they got three elephants and you will interact with one elephant while any of the activity. They have package for above mentioned activities starting from 500 for an elephant ride to 2500 We did Timber only package for 750 which includes timber lift, feeding elephant, photo session, and a tea or coffee. Personally, I don't like elephant ride. We had great experience here. Although, the ticket price might look little higher but one way the money go towards elephants day to day needs also. Will I recommend it? : YES with minimum 1 hour in hand for this activity. Kids will fully enjoy here.

Elephants are the most amazing creatures and despite these being in captivity, they looked happy and content. The trek was cool, and being able to be close to these creatures is a special experience. The staff were friendly and the price for a ride (500 INR) was fair.

It is a wonderful experience. Never before we had this close to elephant. We took elephant ride, bathing, shower and feeding. All staffs are very nice and polite and they explained everything in detail and patiently. The elephants are also very lovely and we enjoyed a lot. Without this thekkady trip is incomplete. A must visit place.

One of the Elephant safari camp in thekkady which is privately maintained. But the costing for basic elephant ride seems high (Rs. 500 / person and goes upto Rs. 2500 for a package) and the time for the ride is very less. Max 10 mins. Not sure about the other elephant camps in thekkady about their pricing.. But this one is not so worthy for the cost.

The artists were very well trained and they were ace in their art. The show started late by 15 mins but the entire show was executed so well with proper background, narration, interpretation of each gesture. The coordination between the artists were awesome and overall very interesting show. If you are art and culture lover then don’t miss it.

My recent visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre was a fantastic experience I will always remember. The center is located in the beautiful region of Thekkady in Kerala and offers visitors the opportunity to witness Kalaripayattu or Kalari, an ancient martial art of the region. The hour-long program was both exciting and educational, and I was thoroughly impressed by the level of expertise and training that the performers displayed. The performers showcased their incredible fitness and acrobatic abilities throughout the performance. It was remarkable to see how fast they moved, how strong they were, and how high they jumped. Every movement was executed with great precision and focus, exemplifying how well-trained the performers were in their craft. The stunts they performed were not only impressive but also fascinating as they demonstrated the central techniques of Kalaripayattu. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the show, and it was an excellent opportunity to learn about Indian martial art forms. What made the performance even more fantastic was the participation of volunteers from the audience mid-way through the show. The performers taught the audience the basic techniques used in Kalaripayattu, which the volunteers could then use to perform a short sequence. It was a great way to engage the audience and make them an active part of the performance. At the end of the show, the performers interacted with the audience, answering any questions we had and posing for pictures. It was great to be able to meet the talented individuals responsible for putting on such a memorable show. The performers were warm and gracious, and it was a privilege to talk to them. Overall, my visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre was an exceptional experience. It offered me the chance to learn about Kalaripayattu, an ancient art form that I was not familiar with before. I was amazed at the dedication and skill of the performers, and it was an inspiring experience to see them perform. The participation of audience volunteers added a fun and interactive element to the show, making it all the more exciting. I would highly recommend a visit to Thekkady Kalari Centre for anyone who wants to see a unique and impressive art form up-close.

Must visit for art / culture lovers if you are in thekkady/kumily. After the show they will allow the audience to take pics with the artists..

Super awesome experience of kerala heritage. Kaleri payatu was really awesome and breathtaking. I really respect the artists for their performance. They are the one who kept the haritage alive. Kalari payatu was so great. I bet we haven't seen something like that before.. it was the martial art for battle. And its the oldest form of martial arts and origin of kung fu... The kathakali dance was very nice.. the expression of the artists are so amazing.. its the masterpiece of how we can show something with expressions..the performance was worth and i recommend people to must see it. Ll update some pics and video of it shot on GoPro soon

Absolutely memorable cultural experience. Both Kalari and Kathakali performances were amazing. I even got to get into the Kalari arena and participate with the performers. My daughter was called on stage for Kathakali for a demo that she totally enjoyed. This was the highlight of our 4 day tour in Kerala. Only feedback for improvement is the presenter for Kalari could have done better (show on Jun 10, 2022). Although he narrated in English very enthusiastically, it was very hard to understand.

Kathakali We visited this centre on our Kerala trip at Thekkady. The place is well made, with ample seating space for 50 people. They have many shows running through the day. The shows are authentic and really nice. The artists are really good and perform very gracefully. We had a great experience of the rich culture of Kerala.

A must visit place in Thekady. The showcase of the martial art is epic. I would say Kathakali dance show could have been better. The way the martial art stunts were performed were mind blowing. If you are in Thekady please don’t miss this show. It’s close to the Periyar national reserve. There are shows starting from 5 PM. We booked two shows back to back. 5 PM-6 PM Kathakali & then 6 PM - 7 PM martial arts. All the events are in the same campus. You will need to walk out from one auditorium to another. The prices are reasonable & they charge around 400 per person for one show. So both shows together will cost 800 per person. We purchased the tickets in the morning itself for the evening show. Please buy the tickets in advance so that you will get seats in the front row. The place has huge amount of parking space. So you won’t need to worry for the parking. Please don’t miss the martial arts show here. It is epic.

During my 1st visit to thekkady I watched kathak show here during the second visit got to watch martial arts kalari show really good we went as a group of 14 members all of us enjoyed. Pricing is 200 per head.

Best is to buy tickets in advance so that you get front seating which is very important for these shows Both shows are good and well presented, however the sound systems needs lot of improvement since the announcements are not clearly audiable and hence you can't understand the performance correctly Parking needs to be improved. It's totally mud and pots... At entry you will hit your car for sure

Five stars for the Kalari show. Wasnt blown away by the Kathakali show though but Kalari show was out of the world. Well done to all the artist and I would highly recommend people traveling to Kumily/Thekkady to see the show. Kids especially loved it.

If you want to enjoy the traditional dance Khatakali and martial arts Kalaripattu then you should visit this place. Outstanding performance by the artists . You will enjoy their memorable performances.

Good show put up by the artists. Its a very tough work and old art form which deserves respect and admiration. I would recommend to watch the shows and support the artists. New generations might not give it due attention. Overall a good performance and experience. Kudos to the artists for the hard work and dedication. We went on a weekday evening and got front row tickets easily on the spot.

Attended the martial arts show! Absolutely loved it! Very punctual, seats were numbered, right from the ticket counter to the announcements were in English! The performances were absolutely fantastic! We reached around 3 & bought tickets for the 6 pm show. In fact, they even picked up the phone in one go!! Really impressed!

This is a must visit place in Thekkady. We watched beautiful kathakali dance and Kalaripayattu martial art here. Pricing is 200 per person. It is close to Periyar national reserve. We really enjoyed the performances. They were very punctual and everything was very organised.

Kathakali was indeed a delightful experience especially if you are an admirer of art.The costume, gestures and story telling was intriguing. They start with a demonstration of expression that helps you to understand the story narrated with exceptional music. Kalaripayattu was a thrilling experience. Epitome of what discipline and training can do. A must watch show which can be enjoyed by anyone irrespective of age but if someone (e.g. Asthmatic) who has smoke sensitivity can be troubled with the smell of kerosene.

Must see whoever visiting kerala Just want to suggets the roganiser to arrange better seating arrangement so everyone get same view And for kattakalli show u shoudl have a big lcd screen to show the performace on screen also coz its not easy to notice expression of a perosn sititng 15 to 20 ft away that the reason 1 star less. Thay have shows after every 1hour we did late evening form 8.30 to 9.30 and 9 30 to 10.30 and it was good use of 3vening time as u dont have any other activity to do in that time in periyar But tickets with seat no ranging between 1 to 10 if availlable to get front row on khattakkali and in kalari u can have seat no 1 to 40 to sit in fornt row

One of the most entertaining and interesting shows I've been to. Would really recommend this place to experience Kerala's culture. The performers made it even more exciting by involving the audience in their act.

The boat ride is nice enough, but don't expect to see many (if any) animals. We saw a set of wild boars and some nice birds, but no elephants (and certainly no tigers). If I could have changed on part of my trip to Kerala, we probably would have skipped this park.

Untouched beauty of nature. Full of lush green and natural habitat of many creatures. A must visit place if u love to explore wild life. We enjoyed boat ride to Periyar lake and spotted many animals Like deer sambar wild buffaloes any many more. There are more than 40 tigers and more than 1000 elephants.

Visited @ 06/02/21. Only boating, 385 per head for counter ticket and 500 @ online. Dont expect too much. An average experience. If you are too too lucky you could see tiger, else bison, jungle hen etc etc..

It is good place to visit with family. But seats are limited i guess 1530 is he last boat which leaves for the visit. So accordingly plan your visit. There are 40 tigers in this jungle. If you're lucky then you'll see tiger 🐅.

Periyar Tiger Reserve is a magical land of natural beauty. They offer multiple nature friendly programs to explore the beauty of the forest, its flora and fauna. I attended the Border Hiking - Brandipara program, and was an amazing experience. Many more to explore in coming months. Multiple trekking programs assisted by highly knowledgeable native guides, stay programs, both boat and land safari. Friendly staffs and good amenities.

Periyar lake is serene & beautiful. But but but.. the main aim of us was to get to see animals in the national park. We didn’t get to see anything other than birds and monkeys. We were in line for the tickets from 5:30am as we were late to book them on website. After that we get a bus which take us to national park from ticket counter. After completing the waiting period, we got a ferry at around 12:30pm which gave us a round around park for 30-45 mins. It was drizzling which helped us in coping up with the waiting. But were disappointed on not getting glimpse of what we came for. Yes, there is a food corner but it is difficult to breathe as it is crowded. Overall vibe was good in December, definitely would be challenging in warmer days.

Periyar national park provides us loads of options to be close to nature and the forest. There are multiple options to choose from like boating, bamboo rafting, tiger trial, nature walk, green walk, etc.. All of the options are really good. You can surely see some animals from any of the options you choose. Overall a scenic, lovely and peaceful forest which has a lot to offer.

It's a good place for 1.5 hours boating and can see wild Buffalo,stags,wild dogs ,fox and water cats etc .Better go in the morning or evening after 3pm so that one can see animals come to shore to drink water,.

Beautiful scenic view, boat safari in Periyar National park. Park is famous for its greenery and stillness, its the place for significant species, including royal tigers and elephants apart from other reptiles, fishes and birds. Its highly recommendable for the ones who love peace, greenery, wildlife to visit this place. Quite adventurous Boat safari, where the boat speed is unlikely slow, has to be so as we had to spot animals and enjoy the scenes of calm water and silence. It's a place which allows peace and serenity one desires.

A nice place to visit once. Place is government run. Could have been much cleaner. Take a bus to the park and book tickets. About 100-120 PPL in the boat. Takes you around the lake. Saw some elephants and deer.

Wonderful Nature and superb Wildlife.priour sanction from Forrest authority is required to get into the wild. It is really not wild but scenic beauty. Wonderful experience.

We did the morning boat ride and the views were very scenic and peaceful. Did not encounter many animals. The guide said the best time to see them are in March, April, May as water dries up inside the forest so animals come out. Overall good experience

It is a peaceful forest with beautiful scenic beauty. There are various options like boating, tiger trial, nature walk, green walk, etc.. We have seen a lot of birds, elephants, monkeys, deer and there are various types of medicinal hebs in the forest. But there are leeches in the forest, so you have to be careful.

A magical place, with beautiful guides. We did the overnight tiger trail trek. It was utterly beautiful, an experience we will never forget. Special thanks to Suriyar our tracker and his team. They are friends with the elephants and know the jungle like their own garden.

Mr. Abraham and his family has been running this garden for 70 years. He gave us a guided tour of the plantation and it was great to see so many varieties of spices, fruits and plants growing here. He was very knowledgeable and very passionate about what he does and it showed in how he gave the tour. Highly recommended.

Started by Justin's Great Grandfather(in 1952), he now manages his 30 acre farm. He will give you an hour long tour of his farm explaining about each and every spice, fruit, flowers they grow.This was quite an experience for us.There is so much variety and families of spices here which we were not Aware. He would explain and talk about it with great enthusiasm. This is must do if you are in Thekkady. They also sell freshly made spices here which you can buy. So we did end up buying here.

The tour was very informative and interesting. Abraham himself gave us the tour and he is very knowledgeable and kind. The only reason I am giving 2 star instead of 5 is that they fooled us by selling fake spices. We bought spices worth 7-8k but when we tried it at home, they were of poor quality. We also bought hing which is totally fake and even the price is very high. We were very happy from there hospitality but don't buy their spices ever.

Fantastic tour around Abraham's garden where we got shown a variety of spices and flowers, as well as the processing of cardamom pods. The garden itself is full of amazing plants, and is really beautiful to walk around. Abraham is extremely knowledgeable about the plants, and is more than willing to answer any questions. A highlight of our time in Kerala, would highly recommend!! The shop is a great place for spice-related gifts! Would suggest a visit of 1-2 hours.

We visited Abraham's spice garden today and had an amazing experience! Abraham is super knowledgeable and on a tour through his garden showed us lots of different spices, herbs, fruits and flowers. The best experience of a spice plantation. Abraham sir was so experienced and he has actually put his life into the plantation. There were all three varieties of coffee. Different varieties of bananas, lemon and pineapple. Must visit place if you really like to learn and have interest about spices and plants.

This spice garden doesn't need any introduction. Already covered in Lonely Planet and by the BBC. Abraham is the best possible guide. He is multilingual, approachable, and very friendly. The garden has exquisite vegetation and serene ponds. Abraham has a small shop that provides spices, coffee, oils and crafts out of driftwood. The experience will take around an hour and interested tourists like us would definitely wish to stay back longer. We noticed that other spice gardens are very commonly mistaken for this one. Kindly check the name ABRAHAM and his photo attached. Definitely and highly recommended for GENUINELY INTERESTED people

Genuine spice garden tour. Abraham walked us through the entire garden and showed us every spice, fruit and fruit tree he grows. A very nice experience with beautiful storytelling and a very warm host.

It was my first time I visited Abraham's spice garden in Thekkady. I had a wonderful experience here, our guide is friendly and has alot of knowledge about the spices he's growing. He'll be happy to answer all the questions you ask him and is enthusiastic to show visitors around his garden. All his plants are very well maintained and healthy. You can make out that he's genuinely interested in gardening! Highly recommend for travellers to visit here atleast once, you do not want to miss this!

Super interesting experience. Abraham has an immense passion and dedication to his craft and he shows it while explaining each plant of his garden. He is a very good guide and his english is excellent. His garden has the main variety of spices of the region and also a bunch more cool species of fruit trees, flowers and plants. This place is a must visit if you are in Thekkady! Don’t go to the commercial spice farms and instead visit Mr Abrahams farm to get a unique personal tour of his amazing farm. He is so knowledgeable and friendly and will tell you about each of the different plants and flowers there! If you’re lucky you can even try some fresh cinnamon leaves and nectar from the flowers 🥰 Go there with time in hand and do visit the store to buy some lovely spices! The spice farm was the highlight of our Thekkady visit!

We had a wonderful, informative and memorable tour in Abraham’s spice garden where we learned about different flowers and spices. He took time to explain the different fruits and spices and the kids had fun exploring the place and trying nectar from some flowers. He also showed us the Cardomon drying machine.

Plants of peppers,elaichi, javitri, robusta arabica and what not. Mr. Abraham is doing this spice farming since last 60 years and it was great meeting him and learning from him. They have 40acres of spice plantation in thekkady which is amazing. Don’t go for any random person on road asking you for spice visit. Go only For verified one’s, just like this. Don't bother going to any other spice garden in the area. Abraham will give you a proper tour himself. He's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the plants in his garden, and also has a few unique plants to show off. His grandfather planted some of the trees, and you can feel the rich heritage of his garden and business. Tour costs vary depending on the duration.

Fantastic Place! This was the second spice garden we visited in Thekaddy, only this one is actually a garden. The owner and guide was VERY informative and interesting. So many varieties of plants and we were able to try many of them. Unlike the other spice place, this location does not have a hard sell at the end to buy their produces, although we still did because the quality is obviously much better than in the town vendors.

It is a residence of a person who believes in sustainable agriculture where you believe that you can get everything from the piece of land that you own. This place is an ecosystem by itself that is well maintained by the owner Benny.. He is a very knowledgeable person who knows what he doing with his piece of land and explains with accurate details... You will like the session if you are open to try, taste and understand the nuances of this agriculture and what it does to you as a person... It was an eye opening experience

A must visit spice garden + farm in Tekkaddy especially with kids. It was a very informative tour of different spices , plants or trees..even experiencing the taste of various fruits and texture of plant leaves etc. All this in a very nominal fee. Highly recommended.

We got to explore different spices, plants and get to know so much about them. It was an insightful experience. We got to try different spices too. They also have a little store with a varied spices, oils and products that one could indulge in.

It was a great experience and i learned about different kind of spices. Mr. Benny is very knowledgeable. They grow all spices and other ayurvedic plants. The Spice garden is an excellent place to visit. I stayed there for 3 nights in treehouse and it was amazing experience.. Inside there is a nice and beautiful spice shop and rates are genuine. Spending an hour here at Green Park with Benny chettan was a an eye opener for me and my family. Benny chettan introduced us to the true benefits of those fauna around us which we often neglect carelessly. He has an in depth knowledge about the origins and benefits of the varied ayurvedic and spice plants in his farm. His 2 acre farm is a best example for sustainable farming. Good place to spend an hour's time with family. Especially for those nature enthusiasts. You could park your vehicle here and walk in for a nominal fee.

Mr. Benny explained about the spices and many trees, sustainable environmental management. Also explained history and how it connects spice business with Indian subcontinent. All of these with minimal charge. Will recommend to anyone!

There's a lot of choice here when it comes to spice gardens, but Green Park Spices is one that is head and shoulders above the rest. They ask 100₹ pp for the tour, but honestly it's worth so much more. You get to feel, smell, taste all the garden has to offer. There's no push selling at all. After the tour you're free to visit the shop or leave. But I do recommend visiting the shop and buying some spices or ginger candy. All in all a wonderful and educational experience.

Visited this place based on reviews on Google. It's a 13 acre property. They charge Rs. 100 per adult. Kids are free. Approx 30mins of guided plantation tour. We had 1 guide for 4 adults. Among others, saw figs, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, bay leaves, all spice tree, cloves, turmeric, vanilla, cocoa and coffee beans, tamarind trees. The information shared was precious. They also share taste samples of spices, cashew nuts and chocolates that they sell. We picked up some spices, rates were not too high. They also sell oils and ayurvedic products. You are under no obligation to purchase. Time and money well spent.

It’s a very beautiful spice garden with a lot of different spices and plants to smell and taste. I gained a lot of knowledge and new tasteful experiences and am very thankful that I got the chance to visit. The tour is very cheap as well so you should definitely tip after the 1 hour tour.

This is a beautiful place! I joined a lovely tour with the knowledgeable owner who explains everything about the different types of plants and spices and how they are used in Ayurvedic medicine. We tasted many different fresh spices. It was very interesting and the place is so peaceful. I can't recommend it enough!

We visited this place years back on our Kerala Trip. The dance performances were absolutely mind blowing. Their Kathakali dance, Kalaripayattu traditional dance forms were beautiful. The artists are professional and trained. We had booked the tickets beforehand to visit this show.

Mudra Cultural Centre offers excellent cultural programs like Kathakali performance, Magic show and traditional stunt arts. The ticket price is Rs. 200 per person for each show. These shows are must be watched to know more about our culture and traditional roots.

Show is almost an hour..Cost is 200 per person ( above 6 years it's a full ticket). Pros: 1) Good stunts and martial arts were performed.. 2) Good to see the stunts using fire 🔥 3) Engaging audience was really good. 4) kathakali dance was good as well.. Navasara skills was too good ... Engaging the audience and participation from audience was good 👍 Cons : 1) Parking was a problematic one. 2) seating chair should be improved Nevertheless it's was a very good show.

The space is very small and no proper ventilation in the hall! The sound was too loud !! Fan is only for first 4 rows, rest other 40 rows has nothing !! Try Yodha culture village instead!!

Shows are played at different times slots. Prebook before going or have it booked in advance. Place is cool and setup is awesome.

Enjoyed their Kalaripyattu(6-7pm) and Kathakali shows (7-8pm). Each ticket costing 200 rs. Kalaripyattu show is highly recommended. Only problem is seats are just normal chairs, sound system needs to be improved and some wall fans need to be added.

Fantastic and well explained demonstration of martial arts. It is clear that the guys all get along despite trying to kill each other on a daily basis. This is a "must see" if you are in the area.

Wow what a place, i saw the kathakali and kalaripayattu performance and they were awesome. they cost 200 rs per person. the theater are very well decorated, seats are well placed so you can see performance from any seat. the performer are very polite and allow you to take photos with them.

I have been a regular visitor to the store here. Done the spice walk tour as well. The area they walk you through is not too much but the guides are well informed. They try to cross sell a lot of their ayurvedic preparations and I ended up using the hair oil and shampoo recommended by them. Turns it it worked wonders for my hair. The hair fal was down to negligible . I've been using their hair products for about a year now. Highly recommend a visit here!

We visited the showroom of Deepa World during our visit to Thekkady. The stock and the courteous behavior of the owners and the staff were amazing. We purchased some spices for our own use as also for our friends and relatives. The quality of the products is outstanding. All the products are absolutely garden fresh and taste too good. I wish them a bright future.

A lovely place in kerala. With a spice garden.... a place with lots of species like vanilla clove plant bay leaves n has various local fruits n vegetables. Lots of flowery as well as medical plants..... fruits like fig. The guide who guide us to this place had lots of knowlege about various plants. I was really fascinated n thrilled by this place. It evn has medicinal plants and a store in there with lots of herbal medicine and tea powder and many more. It has rabbits. Loved they spice garden!!!

Ihad been very recently 8 days ago to Deepa World Spices and purchased so many spices. The quality of product is of high standard. The dealing with customer is very cordial and soft. Today again I had ordered more quantity of spices on line. Excellent.

While selling products my parents were promised that Deepa Spices will deliver the products to UK. After a month of following up they said they are not able to and sent the package to where my parents stay in India. So it's my parents headache now figure out the courier which is still fine if my parents had the invoice and prescription. Deepa world sent the consignment without a prescription and invoice. How are my parents supposed to arrange for an international courier without these documents! And now Deepa world are completely ignoring my mother's calls and messages. Please don't give additional stress she's also a senior citizen. Can you please call back or reply to messages? It would be much appreciated 🙏

Good place to explore kerala spices. The people are very friendly. You can even purchase their organic products/spices. But the plantation walk was short as I have been to many others where it was more informative and long duration. They take 100 rupees per person for the walk.

It's a wonderful place, worth visiting as they have impressive collection of herbal and spice plants. They have very friendly staff. The Ayurvedic medicines and spices are worth exploring. I am a regular customer of their products for the past several years. They sent it through courier promptly.

I have been using your organic coconut oil since years and it has given me unbelievably wonderful results. If you go in Jeep Safari, they take to these types of spice walk where there they influence to purchase some of the herbal medicine, which might be costing less in other ayurvedic pharmacy.

Nice one. We have visited this place in the month of march, so most of the harvesting was already over. Guide was very good. It would be a great place to visit in November.

It's a Semi Government spice garden which has almost all rich spices and medicine plants. The staff is well trained to explain the pros of every key plant but looks like their end motto is to attract customers. Undoubtedly they have quality products but when I checked most of the ayurveda medicines were prepared somewhere else and marketed by Periyar, which was disappointing factor. Overall local tea, cardamom and clove were found to be good. I m using a hair oil for reducing/cintrolling grey hair which is working to control for sure but need to wait to see results for grey reversal after 3 months of usage .

Very nice and beautiful spice farm visit. Ticket INR 200 per adult. They show all types of spices and information in 30 mins with guided tour and then we can buy all the spices from their outlet. I felt it bit expensive and they gave no discount on major purchase. Overall good visit

I visited Periyar Spice Garden recently, and I must say I was thoroughly disappointed with the experience. The garden charges a 100 rupee entry fee, and also they sell their products. The guided tour was informative, but it felt like they are selling us their products rather giving information about the plant. My main issue, however, was with their product pricing strategy. They sold their own products at the maximum retail price (MRP) without any discounts, which seemed like a blatant attempt to take advantage of visitors. I had hoped for at least some promotional pricing or special offers as a gesture of appreciation for paying the entry fee. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Periyar Spice Garden to others, especially if you're looking for a value-for-money experience. You might find similar products at better prices elsewhere, and the overall visit didn't justify the cost of entry.

Good authentic spice and Ayurvedic garden and shop. The sales ladies are good and so you land up buying on an average of ₹10,000 stuff (even if you don't really need). Expensive products but God only knows if the products are as good as they are claimed. Hopefully they are.

A perfect place for someone who is curious for knowledge. All types of spices and medicinal plants are available . At end last you also have an option for purchasing these spices . I was surprised when in Kerala I got all the information in Marathi. 😊🚩

At the end there's a shop where you can purchase spices and medical products but they're ridiculously expensive. Overall if you're going for the knowledge and are curious, you'll love it, if you're purchasing it, it'll be expensive in comparison.

At this center the culturally rich events makes visiting Thekkady worth while and more enjoyable. It is advised to get the tickets booked for the evening well in advance so that one gets the front row seats for the event. Reach half an hour early to see the make up of the Kathakali artists and the stage preparation for 5 to 6 pm show. The process they go through before the performance is very interesting and humbling. It would make you appreciate the dance form and the culture. In the last one gets the opportunity to be photographed with artists. The same goes for the martial art event from 6 to 7. The effort they take to demonstrate the martial art is just amazing. It is a visual treat.

In one word spectacular.. Both the shows were amazingly performed and entertained us throughout. The spectators/audience were involved and the performers were very humble. The stunts surely gave us goosebumps (hats off to the performers)and it is definitely worth the time and money you spend there. The tickets need to be purchased in advance as it gets housefull in no time. Will highly recommend visiting them and something not to be missed for sure..

It was a good experience for me. I enjoyed both kathakali and martial arts. Kathkali show is 4 times a day I guess. But martial arts only at evening that is at 6.30 pm Now let's discuss on kathakali: I don't have much interest on traditional dance, but dance was exceptional. Awesome expression and trust me I enjoyed the show till the end. Both the performers were nice , great techniques and flawless execution. Singer cum gini player was really talented. I wonder how come someone sing so well on high notes Instrument player was really good at his job. Everything was in perfect rhythm and symphony was unforgettable Let's discuss on martial Arts: * stunts were really surprising and sign of bravely * fearless execution of fireworks * show started on time , ends on time. A Culturally rich event. The artists of both kathakali and kalarippayattu(one of the oldest martial arts form of india) give immense amount of effort in this show. The ticket price for each show is 200 rupees per person and the show time is 1hr for each.we went there on weekday , on that day they had 2shows for kathakali (5pm and 7pm) and Kalarippayattu show timing was 6pm. If the sound system for the kalarippayattu show can be revamped, because it was echoing and the voice was not clear then the experience will be even better (not a major complaint though)

We watched both the Kathakali and Kalaripayittu show at Yodha Cultural Village. The Kathakali performance was good and the artists performed very well. They also allow photo session with the artists free of cost post the performance. We were just disappointed when the tabla artists refused to take photo since he was busy taking others photo. We just wanted to show appreciation for all but he seemed very rude. The Kalaripayittu show started a little slow - we all were confused what’s happening and why artists are coming and going in 2 mins. They show have a detailed explanation to the audience so people know what’s happening. The show picked up in the 2nd half with amazing stunts and the best part was the fire show. They also invited audience participation which was also good. All in all, good show but can be choreographed better. All artists are very talented - they can be used better with newer equipment’s.

Have seen kalari show Mesmerizing..performance 👌once in a life time experience.. they r well trained, humble n very careful toward spectators specially kids during the show.. enjoyed every bit of it. Definitely wanna see it again

One word - Phenomenal Performance. The Kalarippayattu performance was outstanding. The music and ambience were perfect; the martial artists are kind and polite. Yodha is one of the best place where you can see the martial arts of Kerala and the traditional dance of Kerala. The best part was the jeep safari it was fantabulous. The driver was super knowledgeable and helped us to explore every bit of the area. Shamnad knows his duty very well he is a pro level off road driver with a good experience. Thank you Yodha😄

Visited Yodha cultural village today . Our India is full of talent. Thank you Yodha for keeping our culture alive . Martial art team - Nidhi , Mahesh , Saran , Sanoj , every one were just so amazing. The fire ring stunts were just too too good. Gave goosebumps I request everyone to must come for this show . Kathakali - the explanation they gave , involvement of guests and the expression was out of the world. Not to be missed for sure

Kalari was something I had been eagerly waiting to see for a very long time and I am so glad that I opted for Yodha Cultural Village. All of them were absolutely perfect, carrying out such dangerous acts with such precision. I couldn’t tear my eyes off them to even take pictures and videos. I had goosebumps throughout that 1 hour. This has been one of the best and most memorable experiences of my life. Absolutely loved it.

We went as a group of 5.The ticket prices are 300 per person.We actually went last and didn't had enough chairs for us.But still we were allowed to sit at the steps which had an excellent view.Though there are multiple videos of all the show are available over the internet. The vibe of this place is on another level, which cannot be explained.I will visit this place whenever I visit Thekkady.

This place is a must visit if you are in Thekady/Kumily. My family and I witnessed the martial art show and it was simply amazing. The artists were brilliant and kept everyone thoroughly entertained throughout the show.

Very good massage service at ayur sparsh. We went in evening and did not have to wait. Massage with steam bath was worth try and oil used were purely herbal. My masseuse is Shalomi and she made my experience comfortable. I recommend this place and Shalomi s work.

Just had tha abhyanga with shirodhara done.I actually feel asleep after 5 minutes of shirodhara because it was super relaxing after the massaging.my body pain is gone. Thankful to my therapist Raju. He was very professional and wery kind with his words and his touch.
