Etna volcano is beautiful. If someone feels strong enough you can go up on your own. The first stage is said to be the most difficult. Because we had only time till 4pm, we went up the mountain by a cable car, then by a 4x4 car with a guide. And here we were very disappointed. Because Etna was active 6 weeks earlier, going to the top was forbidden. Our guide took us to one of the craters 3 minutes away from the car, saying two words and that is it. I can read more on the internet than I have received info from a paid guide. I recommend going up the cable car and then walking up the hill. The second stage is obtainable and you don't have to waste money on the 4x4 bus. You can go to Etna by public transport 8h15 from Catania, arrive around 10h15 for €6,60 one way in April 2022 and then decide how far you want to go and how. Take drinks, suncream, hats, windproof jackets and hiking shoes with you. Enjoy the hike 🙂, enjoy Sicily 😁

Beautiful place, feels like being on the moon, cable car cost 50 euro to go up on the Vulcan, going with bus cost 79 euro for one person, walking around and see crater 2001 year, it is free but you need to walk up of the crater, it makes tired but worth it to go.

Absolutely stunning, must-see place when visiting Sicily. Paid parking (half day or full day), but entrance to the mountain itself and its craters are free if you don’t mind the hike, otherwise be ready to pay up 50€ per person to take the cable car up and down the mountain. Payments accepted with cash or card. There is a shop near the summit with tons of food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages and tasty arancini. Restrooms available there as well, climate controlled and seating places. Souvenir shops everywhere, so don’t worry if you miss one at the bottom, there will be more at the station where the cable card takes you up to. Bring the right shoes for this, and cover up properly during the colder months. Be prepared for powerful winds! Please be sure to take your trash with you 🙏🏼

Amazing experience to climb up Etna. Top of the mountain is very cold, so make sure to wear warm cloths. We went up with a guide, cost 75 euro (maybe try to find cheaper options, as I booked last minute).

Very impressive! Natural uncontrollable power and energy! You feel smaller than a molecule against the background of this phenomenon. Photos do not convey the impression. But I recommend coming here! You will remember this meeting with the power of our planet for life!

A must go, and one and done. We took the private 4x4 experience. I think much better than utilizing the cable car. Set it up in advance. However, would love to get closer. There is another tour with a special vehicle that takes you higher. If you’re a real adventurer then I would seek this out. If you prefer the dead crater and volcanic tubes then the 4x4 is for you.

Our post-August 2023 visit added a touch of enchantment to an already remarkable site. This adventure is an absolute essential for all wanderers. Here are some practical insights: - The drive from Syracuse takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. - During our August visit, the summit's chill surprised us. While a sweater was enough for the 20-30 minutes we spent at the top, temperatures were milder below 2920m. - Strangely, we didn't make any reservations beforehand, and it didn't pose any challenges. - For 78€, we enjoyed a funicular ride (15-20 minutes), a bus journey (15-20 minutes), and a 45-minute guided tour of Etna's main craters. This option suits those who can navigate to the site independently. The concise stroll covers Etna's main highlights (given the cold, a longer tour might be less cozy). - Parking was both complimentary and convenient. - Opting for an August afternoon visit proved delightful, as the site was pleasantly uncrowded. - The panoramic view from the summit is simply breathtaking. To sum up, without a shadow of a doubt, this experience is worth every moment and comes with our wholehearted recommendation to all Sicily explorers

Snow covered mount Etna is a great place to go for a budget holiday. Definitely worth it. Ideal for trekking or just to enjoy the fresh air and fantastic views.

Beautiful lunar landscape, wonderful panorama and views of Sicily. Sometimes a strong wind, so we had to rent jackets at the top station of the cable car for 5 euros. A challenging but beautiful experience.🙂

Too much money for nothing. I espected to get more closer to vulcano, but that is not possible. You can spent whole day there climbing if you have equpment for hiking. Shoes (stones can be sharp) and jacket are must because if it is windy it is cold. Those bills are price for 2 persons for cable car and bus with tour guide. He said few sentances when we went out from bus in English and after that spoke in Italian. Didn't said more than I red on internet. Price 136€ for 2.🙄😡👎

Active volcano in Sicily, and you must definitely go visit here at least once. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to go all the way up to see the lava, but I enjoyed walking around the volcano and viewing its landscapes. Also, don't forget to bring a light jacket with you since it's gets quite cold when you go higher.

This hike was really challenging but soo very worth it. Loved everything about it. Bring lots of water, a few snacks, lunch and a face mask.

Dark but charming views, and a great feeling after riding the gondola, the quick difference in height can make you dizzy 😊

You gotta go. Why? It's the largest and oldest volcano in Europe. It's beautiful. And that's enough reason.

I climbed Etna a couple of years ago – it was a very strong impression. Extremely unusual landscapes, absence of any life, landscape as if you were on another planet. You can go up either by bus or on foot. We climbed on foot - difficult, but accessible with moderate physical fitness. If you are still wondering whether it’s worth going here, it’s definitely worth it.

Great for hiking and trailing. You'll get beautiful scenery, see beautiful nature with different colors of lava rocks. It's a unique experience.

Cheap public transportation to go from Catania: We took the bus operated by AST S.p.A., Catania - Etna. There is only bus leaving from Catania at 8:30 and same bus coming back from Etna 16:30. You can buy ticket from the ticket office near the central station/ bus terminal, 6.6€ / person two-way, with a little commission fee. Local Tour: On the bus, they also offer Trekking Tour with local guide, which would allow you to hike to the top of the mountains. Without local guide, you are not allowed to go above ~3000m height. You might want to ask Italian or European travellers on the same bus to compare the price as we as Asian tourists were offered a slightly higher price than others. We didn't take that tour. After arrival, we purchased the cable car combined with mini bus to arrive at around 3000 meter hight and walked around there. Although the combined ticket should include some local guide, we only had a guy leading us the way up, no voice over. Other info : there is free toilet both at the entry and arrival points of the cable car. It's quite chill on top so bring a jacket along. Otherwise you can also rent jacket and hiking shoes at the arrival point of the cable car. Although it's chill and you might not realise it, the UV is quite strong there. So be careful to not get sunburn. It's quite dusty driving with the mini Bus, you might want a mask just in case.

The katedral is beautiful made and is very peaceful. So much history.

Bazilica has some awkward working hours but basically at night it’s always open. If you’re lucky you’ll be part of some ceremony and there are a lot of weddings happening here. Entrance was free. Basilica inside is really nice but as the rest of the city everything is ruined by the smell of the garbage that is all around the main city Square and it’s streets.

The most beautiful point of view of Catania. Don’t forget to go to the Diocecian Museum just net to the Carlos V door. With the ticket you can access to the Achiles Bath ruins just under the Cathedral. If you look carefully, a little river falls into the sea under the fountain. The Cathedral itself is build over the rest of an antique Roman (Greek?) bath. Who know how big this structure was…

Saint Agatha is a symbol of the city of Catania. According to legend, she stopped the flow of lava that sought to destroy Catania. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Agatha was the seat of the Bishops of Catania until 1859, when the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese, and since then has been the seat of the Archbishops of Catania. The cathedral has been destroyed and rebuilt several times because of earthquakes and eruptions of the nearby Mount Etna. It was originally constructed in 1078–1093, on the ruins of the ancient Roman Achillean Baths, by order of Roger I of Sicily, who had conquered the city from the Islamic emirate of Sicily. At the time it had the appearance of a fortified church. In 1169 it was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake, leaving only the apse area intact. Further damage was caused by a fire in 1169, but the most catastrophic event was the 1693 earthquake, which again left it mostly in ruins. It was subsequently rebuilt in Baroque style. Today, traces of the original Norman edifice include part of the transept, the two towers and the three semicircular apses, composed of large lava stones, most of them recovered from imperial Roman buildings. Excelent, rafinated architectural baroc site, probably the most visited location in the city. Here lies burried Vincenzo Bellini, one of the most proeminent musicians of melodramma italian operas, among other, like Donizetti and Rossini. Situated in central plazza, you can visit it till late hours. There are anticovid measures inside.

Wow, beautiful and special is how I can describe my visit to this magnificent cathedral. You can't (like the etna) miss this cathedral. When I entered, I was staring my eyes out. There was also a church service going on at that time.

One of our best experience in Catania was the (English) guided tour of the monastery (well, university). You can not really visit without the tour, specially during the summer when the University is closed. The tour costs 9 euros and lasts a out 1h20m. If you go on Saturday (maybe Sunday as well, don't remember), you can also visit the director's office which is not available during weekdays. There is a bunch of really nice information about the monastery/university but also about the city itself that the guide does a very good job to share with everyone. Highly recommended.

My friend and I attended the €10 English tour at 1pm. Our tour guide was AMAZING. Seriously, we agreed it was one of the best tours we’ve ever been on. The guide’s English was excellent, the history and anecdotes fascinating, with plenty of humour thrown in. Incredible architecture and design, as well as decor. Absolutely worth the money for the 1.5 hour tour.

Great former monastery with an interesting history. I strongly suggest to pay the few Euros for the guided tour. Our guide spoke very good english, knew a lot about the place, was able to get us even more interested in the place and at the end even showed us some of the rooms normally closed to the public. Make sure to be at the church 5 minutes before noon and see the sun dial it was amazing. Also, a nice memorial to the soldiers killed in the world wars. Great gardens. Great use of space and turned it into the university.

One of the biggest monastery’s in Europe and the pearl of Sicilian late baroque style which was included to UNESCO world heritage list. Now there is a Humanitarian faculty of the Catania University. From the top of the church in university there is a panoramic view on the city and volcano Etna. The monastery was founded in 1558 by Casino monks, firstly it was created in a square shape with an internal cloister defined as “Marbles”, ( 17 th century colonnade, fountain and decorations from Carrara marble). After eruption of Etna in 1669 the monastery was saved but the church attached to it was destroyed. But the catastrophic earthquake in 1693 destroyed almost everything. The basement and parting the first floor of the 16th century monastery remain intact. Of the cloister, 14 columns remain erect, the others fall down and break. In 1702 reconstruction began and the monastery was repopulated by monks coming from other monasteries. The monastery grew compared to the original plan. Next to the ‘Marble’ or Western cloister, rebuilt and renewed with late-baroque decorations, the Eastern Cloister with its garden and the Caffeaos in eclectic style was added. A new area on the North side was also added to host the rooms destined to the common activities of the monks: the library, the kitchen, the novices’ aisle, the dining rooms, the night choir (chapel). On top of the lava ‘wall’, were built two gardens: the botanical garden – the wonders garden – and the novices’ garden. The facade of the of the San Nicolò l’Arena church is unfinished. Extended and enriched with decorations, the monastery became one of the biggest in Europe. Various famous Sicilian architects took part in the reconstruction: Ittar, Battaglia, Battaglia Santangelo, and Palazzotto. Giovan Battista Vaccarini who participated in the reconstruction: he designed the kitchen, the main dining-hall and the library. In 1866, the state confiscated the Benedictine Monastery and from 1868 the monastery was re-used for civil scopes. I could not even imagine what is the happiness to study in such historical walls of this building.

Best attraction in Catania! It's still called a monastery, but today it's the house of the University of Catania, Faculty of Humanities, home to 900 lucky students. The monastery, 3rd in size in Europe, was built by 50 opulent rich monks, who wanted to live a flourishing life. The building went through a lava eruption event in 1669, and a huge devastating earthquake in 1693. The monks used the opportunity to rebuild it 15 times bigger. The university discovered lots of rooms and architectural treasures such as a mosaic floor of an Ancient Roman house, and an even older Greek house structure, on which the monks built the monastery, or the fountain which had also been lost at some point, and just rebuilt in 2007 using a sketch made by a French architect that the university managed to find in Paris. The current library is located in the old celler underneath the monastery, and above the ancient Roman and Greek findings. It's amazing that the students have access to such precious surroundings every day, and it's due to the University's culture and values, believing that such treasures must be shared, enjoyed and cherished (as opposed to most universities located in historical buldings where students only have access to the modern parts, while the historical parts house the offices). The headmaster's office is also an amazing historical room, and if you visit during the weekend, you get to see it too. The monastery may be visited only with a guided tour, there's several groups daily both in Italian and English, everything available on their website. It costs 10 EUR and it's worth every penny. You get to visit everything and learn its amazing story from a super nice, charming and passionate guide. ♥️ Buy the tickets in advance, especially for the English tour, as it's usually fully booked. Strongly recommend!

A must see in Catania. It can be visited only by tour guide, but it's definitely worth it (around 1:10 h duration, with very nice guide, good information, good itinerary). The architecture is amazing, filled with history and charm, going through what is now part of the University of Catania (you visit the library, court yard, study halls, lecture halls, old garden, the church, etc.).

Well worth the €10 per person. We booked this purely on spec having browsed places to visit in Catania. The English guided tour is 1pm daily so make sure you pre book. The Monastry is now the University for Humanities. The building itself has many different areas including an outside view of the lava wall from 1669. The original Benedictine monastery on the site has many original areas that can be seen today. The guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable this added to the value of the tour. My favorite area was the underneath if the university from the original cellar to the old roman remains. Don't miss this trip.

Good place to walk and rest in this small but calm park. Near the fountain, one can see two needles of a watch displaying accurate time. In between the fountainn and top of the park, one can see and appreciate the date, months and year crafted on the grass.

Loved this park when I was staying in Etna Suit and had view of this Garden. It was stunning views from Garden to Mt Etna as well as unforgettable sunset that I had pleasure watching in this park. Highly recommend visiting this park

Decent enough park with pretty landscaping and gazebo. I’ve seen better, I’ve seen worse. Seems to be a colony of cats being fed by one bush. Views from atop to below are picture-worthy, including of Mount Etna.

Make sure to spare sometime for this hidden gem. The kids loved it, and we enjoyed our walk as a family. Unfortunately not much history is explained so you need to do some reading before you go. You can enjoy your food and drinks on one of the many shaded benches in the park.

Large, beautiful, well maintained park. The walkway to the top is small stones laid in intricate patterns. Excellent craftsmanship. From the top you can walk further into the park for serenity. Art objects and benches along the pathways.

Its good to walk here from dirty and noisy city. When it's good visibility it's possible to see Etna volcano. It's seems to be taken care of and probably every month there is a change in lawn, I was in April. There are a lots of bench and sometimes you can see a lizard 🦎

Villa Bellini is a nice park located in the center of Catania. What I liked about the park is the layout and the fact that it’s accessible for people in wheelchairs and disabilities. Also there are plenty of benches to sit. I do think the park could be enhanced with flowers, but all in all a nice place to go and spend a sunny afternoon.

The Giardino Bellini is the oldest urban park of Catania. Before the construction of a public garden, the area was occupied by the garden maze or labyrinth owned by the Ignazio Paternò Castello, prince of Biscari. In 1854, the Comune di Catania bought the area of the maze, and in 1864 started to adapt the area into a public garden.Starting from 1875, the municipality acquired several further areas surrounding the maze, and two years later the work to unify these areas was undertaken. A guide from 1867 reports the gardens housed swan and geese, deer and cows, an aviary, and an enclosure of monkeys. The park has a white marble bust depicting Vincenzo Bellini and completed by Tito Angiolini. The Giardino Bellini was finally inaugurated in 1883. It’s like an oasis in the heart of the city with beautiful strelitzia flowers along the main steps to the top of the garden and wonderful trees that hide you with their big leaves or branches from the sun. Nice place to take a cup of coffee and enjoy the garden beauty.

Lovely park in the middle of catania. Best chance to leave the world of stones and see some green. Really relaxing and some nice views. At the main gate there are some little shops with sweets and maybe some live music (there was always a saxophon player infront when we went there). Best place to escape the heat or the crowded streets)

It’s not huge park but vegetation is very varied. A lot of kind of trees and bushes. Good place for walk with a dog, chill and relax. To much rubbish in some places. Really worth to visit.

Pro tip: Use the Lime, Helbiz, or Dott app to rent a scooter to get here and then grab a sweet treat across the street at Pasticceria Savia. This is the largest and oldest public green space in Catania is worth a visit. Adorned with busts of various Catanese musicians, writers, and politicians, it's a great place to escape the chaos of Catania.

Great park in the middle of the city, seems to be very popular for the locals. Ive been at night and daytime - felt safe and some live music was on. Really nice place!

Wonderful garden in the middle of Catana with a large variety of exotic trees which make this the nicest green space in the city. Interesting stone patterns in the walks. Interesting elevation changes plus a gazebo and viewpoints

A hidden gem, well worth the 4 Euro entry, I wish there was mor English information, but the visit was still enjoyable. Be sure to sit in the bomb shelter simulator, it ads to the experience.

For only a measly €4 entry fee, this place is well worth it. I would advise though you get a brief intro from the reception on the history and layout as there are some English placards inside, but it comes across as haphazard, so she sets the stage for what you will see. The history is quite comprehensive and there are tons of artifacts, including uniforms from each country involved in the war, as well as weapons, etc. The machine gunner in the “bunker” made me jump at first. Incredibly vivid videos and photos of the impact of the war on Sicily, and absolutely wonderful photo exhibition at the end by an American photographer who fought and was injured. One minor point: some random employee told me to stop taking photos at one point: of a English translation PLACARD. There are no signs indicating no photos from what I recall so I ignored her. How silly!

Very reasonably priced, I really enjoyed visiting the museum, quite a unique experience as you enter and you are surrounded by the sound of planes and the alarm goes off. I loved listening to the stories of the survivors and was particularly touched by the display on the land mine survivors. I hope I'll be able to spare this experience with my children in the future.

It is a very interesting museum! It is worth to spend some hours in there. Information in italian and english. It is like to experience what people felt during that 38 long days of war. Don't lose the exposition of war pics of Phil Stern concerning the landing in Gela and other stories through his objective...

This is a museum and recreation of the allies battle to take back Sicily and to launch the European campaigns in WWii. Complete the bomb shelters and simulated air raids 3d maps of advanced. Uniforms of allies weapons. Like a DISNEY-Style learning adventure. Very moving and informative.

Entrance is only €4 per person. Interesting. Worth to visit. Big parking space available in front of museum.

Very well done exhibition. It displays how Sicily suffered during WWII, and how the Allies and Axis used it as their battleground. A must is the anti bomb bunker simulation. It allowed me to experience the terror of being bombed 💣.

A very interesting place which I definitely recommend. This museum is filled to the brim with artifacts, recordings, weapons and uniforms (even letters and diaries, which I am quite fond of) all hailing directly from the front lines of 1943 Sicily. It is very well kept and it was truly a pleasure to visit. Something I wasn't expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed, was the bomb shelter immersive experience. Overall a wonderful experience.

One of the best museums I've ever been to as a foreigner. One of the ladies at the entrance gave us even a short tour for our tickets, which was filled with interesting information. Definitely visit if you want a real lesson of history.

Like other before us, we consulted the opening hours although the official programm states that is open Tuesday till Sunday, from 09 - 17. Well, surprise on us, as Saturday at 14, it was very, very closed, with no sign of activity. It's such a shame, as having visited many war museums across Europe, we were really excited to visit this one as well, to broaden our perspective. A very beautiful city not taken care well by it's people. Maybe, next time we will be more lucky 🫣

Though mostly in Italian, all subtitles are in English, and some of the documents have English translation. Very interactive and gives a good sense of the time

The website said the museum was open. We walked in the rain when we got there. A man at the gate told us the Museaum was closed because it was raining. I’m not sure why it would be close because it’s raining. It’s an indoor museum big waste of time. These people don’t care about keeping it together. filthy place garbage everywhere. He told us the pen museum was open and we could go in that part. It doesn’t make sense.

Great museum- very detailed and extensive, but why was everything in Italian when it was about US & UK armies as well as Italian? A few subtitles or translations would have helped. Great museum, poor curation- no staff to ask. The whole place was deserted

A very good museum, a must go in Catania and definitely head and shoulders above most of its other tourist attractions. Unfortunately, brought down by some serious (though easy to remove!!) Issues. Give it at least half a day if you're interested in the topic of WW2. The good - Well balanced focus on the topic: first a broad introduction, then more detailed walkthrough, then even more deep dives into individual categories of life and war - comprehensive collections of: uniforms, equipment and personal weapons of all sides of the conflict (Italy, Germany, Britain, USA, Canada) - some heavier weapons (heavy machine guns, mortars, grenade throwers) - even some heavy guns, a torpedo, etc - a lot of text, as well as photos and contemporary posters, newspapers etc. - video on several screens throughout the exhibition - several life-size recreations of situations from both civilian and military life (bomb shelter, infantry bunker, trenches, landing boat, red cross station, signing of the armistice,. ..) - several models of battlefields The bad - Poor lightning (such a shame!!! so much work and then you just can't see it. Saving electricity??) - Many texts (and all videos) in Italian only; English, where present, is sometimes barely understandable The ugly: On the armistice signing tent photo you can see how poorly lit it was. Basically you can only really see just 1 of the 5 figures...

An amazing experience! A must see while in Catania. So many interactive exhibits about a pivotal time in history. The exhibits gave a history from every perspective - civilian population, soldiers on all sides, clergy and politicians. Information from actual accounts, uniforms, maps, flags, newspaper accounts and so much more.

Cool stuff, lotta reading but the uniforms, guns, and everything honestly was just super cool. Also great place to learn about the italian side of the war, mainly the allied invasion of Sicily.

One of the best Military Museums I have ever visited. Tells the story of the Invasion of Sicily in WWII from the Allied point of view, the Axis point of view and the population of Sicily. It's a little hard to find and the Museum workers don't speak much English, but worth the effort!

I was really looking forward to seeing this museum, but it was not easy to find. From the street there is a small sign, but there are many buildings and the sign for the museum is above the door on one of the buildings so you don't see it until you are at the door and looking up. On-line the hours posted are 9am-3pm. I arrived at 9:20. On the door of the museum it is posted 9-3. The door was locked. When I tried to look inside, a lady came to the door and shooed me away and said the museum opens at 10am. When I pointed to the sign, she shrugged and said '10' and shut the door. Having said all of that, I'm glad that I visited.

Amazing, immersive experience especially at the bomb shelter (though higher quality speakers would make the experience even better!). They truly put effort into sourcing real weapons and making everything feel real.

It is a very interesting place to visit and see all the actions. Many stalls selling almost anything from sea food to vegetables, chicken and etc but as a tourist, the person selling the fish wasn’t honest, it was clearly listed as €6 per kg but try to charge us at €20, after some haggling, he reduced it to €14. I refused and walked away. Nice to visit but don’t think they are honest enough.

Incredible! We stood on the elevated walk (to avoid the wet area) and watched the action - the customers selecting their fish, the sellers cutting it to order, the hubbub of a very active market. Great experience!

In the heart of beautiful Catania there is La Pescheria, fish market where you can buy fresh fish and other sea product... It's not so big but when you come inside you can feel real Catania and their citizens... Always full of people who sell their fish, Catania people and tourist who come to buy something or just take some nice pictures or videos... You always hear high noises of sellers😀... I was here few times and always I buy something fresh to prepare and speak some words with sellers... They work until 2pm and tommorow come early again... All recommendations for visit and take some nice pictures or videos if you in Catania 👌

€10 entry, which is probably more than the museum is worth. The castle feels more impressive on the outside. There is a lot of art, as well as pottery and epigraphy inside. The downloadable audio tour doesn't tell you much about the building as you walk round. There are QR codes which can explain specific things. Overall, it was fine, but not really good.

6€ per person to get in. Sort of boring to be honest, paintings and sculptures but I really wanted to see and learn about the castle. The outside and the middle part is the best. Only two vending machines on the top floor with a small seating area. Bathrooms were disgusting!

The Ursino Castle was built on the initiative of Emperor Frederick II as part of his plan for fortifying the Sicilian coast. In 1669 an eruption of Mount Etna changed the topography of the surrounding area, so it is difficult to establish the castle’s original setting with precision. Clearly, however, it stood on a promontory about 16 meter high, dominating the city and the port, and was protected by outworks on the side facing inland and by the cliff over the sea. Castello Ursino is situated in Catania, Sicily. The building houses a gallery of local art as well as the Catania Civic Museum, which is well worth visiting.

An amazing castle with a museum inside. Before coming here, I didn’t know there would be multiple exhibits to look at. There are a lot of great artifacts, artwork, and photography to see. My husband and I spent a couple hours here and enjoyed taking our time and learning about the history presented to us.

Decent enough museum but the €6 entrance is honestly too steep. That said I enjoyed the meander around and the collection of artifacts on the ground floor. The second (first floor in the U.K.) is mostly paintings. It’s no Louvre but some are striking, such as Love and Death and the Sicilian Vespers. All captions are translated into English. Nice views of the city from the roof terrace. Have to agree that unfortunately bathrooms were gross 😷

It’s a well-preserved museum with a lot of sculptures, paintings, and you could even view Mt Etna from a distance. It’s definitely worth a visit, and I spent about 1 h in total.

I visited Castello Ursino in Catania during my recent trip and have mixed feelings about my experience. While the castle's exterior was impressive as expected, I found the €10 entry fee to be a bit steep for what was inside. The interior housed a lot of art, pottery, and epigraphy, but it didn't really wow me. One thing that disappointed me was the downloadable audio tour which didn't offer much insight into the building as I walked around. Fortunately, I found QR codes placed throughout the castle which offered more specific information about each exhibit. Overall, the experience was mediocre. The castle was decent but not great. If you're a fan of art and local history, it might be worth checking out. However, if you're on a tight budget, I would suggest spending your money elsewhere as there are other unique attractions in the area.

Brilliant historical location filled with amazing art and more pieces of history. Great to see people doing 3D scanning of the ancient pottery to preserve it for the future. Could do with a bigger gift shop though. Also if the prices could be clearer as there was a different price on the website vs advertised at reception vs when we actually went to buy tickets.

On the top you can have a super nice view of the Etna. Just want to start my review with a super cool thing about this place. Cool exhibition but for 11 euros I would like to have free wifi to fully understand the art and history we saw inside. All paintings, photos and statues had QR code but no 5g inside. Also, the Cafe inside is also just 3 vending machines and one didn't even had where to put the money and press the numbers. Nevertheless, it is a recommended place to visit and we had a lot of fun.

Castello Ursino (Casteddu Ursino) also known as Castello Svevo di Catania (The Bear Castle). It was built in the 13th century as a royal castle of the Kingdom of Sicily and is mostly known for its role as the seat of the Sicilian Parliament. The castle is in good condition today, and it is open to the public as a museum with a very reasonably-priced entry ticket. Recommended 😊

It is amazing to see. However, I think that the entropy is a little bit expensive because the castle is heavily renovated so there is no exhibition you can actually see inside.

Smooth visit, lovely people at the entrance. The Castle was amazing to visit, it's got 2 levels and a mezzo piano, so basically 3 😁 I needed 2 hours but that's me, checking out every painting and exhibit. Best thing was being able to observe the restoration work on paintings from an upper level, as you'd watch a surgeon performing a delicate operation. Note the topography of the Castle pre Etna earthquake în 1693, mind-blowing!

Adult ticket for 11 EUR at the cashier (online for 6), exhibition fairly limited and barely focused on the Norman history

Beautiful artifacts found all around Sicily, but mainly around Catania. Beautiful paintings. Easy access for people with mobility issues, but not easy for wheelchairs. There is an elevator. The washrooms are clean. Overall a great experience. Visited today for the second time. Would come back again for more detailed observation.

Reminds me of the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Behind this fountain is the fresh fish market and you can already smell the seafood in the air.

It’s a symbol of Amenano’s river, which shores was a place of foundation the city of Catania. During the volcanic eruption the lava was sealed the river bed. But the residents of the city melted lava rock and have founded a water jet. A little bit later the fountain was installed there. Nowadays the river is under the ground but you can see it under the grates underfoot.

Many choices of retail shops though some are closed in the afternoon. The road is named this way I was told because the road leads to the view of Mt Etna.

Catania is a very busy city with a lot of idiots driving in cars, parking is a crime on its own. The city is filthy and the street Via Etnea is called a main shopping street ( what a joke) yeahh you’ve got a few shops but nothing stands out. I would never go there again

One of the beautiful squares in Catania. It is in a central location and it is in a walking distance frim each location which you would need to go! The architecture of the building is a typical Catanian style.

In this beautiful place I participated in my first Talent show, at the age of 18 and a migrant, I wrote a poem about immigration and integration and I won. It's a beautiful place that narrates perfectly well the historical event of Catania. Catania is a beautiful city that accommodates everyone. Happy touring.

Beautiful piazza in the city center, all area worth visiting. Not so full of people on weekdays, but it can be suffocating on public holidays or weekends.

The Piazza Università is a lovely place, one you should not miss when you are in Catania. The Plaza is flanked by ornate 18th-century buildings & 4 bronze lampposts that depict Catania legends. It is the main square of Catania and is also home to the landmark of the city: the Fontana dell'Elefante. As I walked the square and admired the beautiful buildings and the Basilica, I was amused by a group of old fellows (you can find them in one of the photos below) who had parked themselves on the stairs of the Fontana, assuring that they would be in every photo taken that morning 😉 If you choose, you may walk through the beautiful Basilica. Another interesting possibility? For three Euro, one can tour the Roman baths which have been excavated underneath the church. One surprising thing about my visit here was discovering the fabulous fruit stands on a surrounding street - bellisima!

This is a beautiful place. Went on Dec 21 where there is Christmas market and various stalls selling food and accessories. There are also various shops and restaurants around.

Cool vibes around this big square which is dotted with cafes with outdoor seating. Both sides of the square are the university buildings.

We ate an drank in a small cafe in the square it was not busy and it was safe there to get you phone or camera out.

Beautiful palace, but dissapointed with the guide...payed 10 euros but could not hear most of the things he told us. Definitely need to invest and buy him a microphone. He knew a lot of details but reall hard to follow.

One on the best experiences in Catania. I was the only one person in Englisg speaking group, so I basically had a private tour 😉 I’ve heard great stories about the palazzo and really enjoyed the experience. It was a bit short but i believe it was worth it.

Amazing little gem Chiara was a really good guide (also very good English) and shared a lot of interesting facts around the palace which made the few rooms even more enjoyable. Guided tour costs 10€ and lasts around an hour. Available in several languages also (other guide was speaking Spanish). Totally recommend

A great experience in Catana! The palace is amazing and we really enjoyed our visit. Heads up to our guide who was super friendly and had loads of fun facts to share with us (and showed a lot of patience answering all our questions!)

The Palazzo Biscari is a monumental private palace located right up against the city walls. Built in 1702, after the famous earthquake of 1693, this Sicilian baroque style palace is the oldest in Catania and also the largest. The highly decorative interiors are open for guided tours and used for cultural events.

Beautiful baroque palace, a charismatic tour guide and an entertaining presentation of material with humor. Unbelievable, but not knowing Italian, we got a lot of positive impressions and emotions. Recommended!

There are to much beauty in one place, because it’s very difficult to concentrate your attention, you want to consider every detail on this baroque buildings and don’t cross and don’t miss anything.

A street packed with churches, super nice to take as opposed to via etna when going to the center, in order to admire all these beautiful and old edifices, while from the center you can return on Via Etna. There are some stairs at the beginning of the street but also a nice terrace on the left as you climb, with very good local beers and aperol spritz, for a moment to rest :)

Closed to tourists as least when I visited (and opening hours were on a placard on the front). You can take photos though of the ruins and I don’t see the need to walk around around them anyway especially as so much is still buried underground. It’s interesting the ruins used to be a particularly large amphitheater. Would never guess looking at it today!

One of the best attractions in Catania, too bad there is only 10 percent of it, and the remainder is buried underground. You can see majority of the remainings right from the street. But you can feel the ancient Roman history of this place, very amazing... definitely a place to visit

If you are in Catania don’t miss going to Roman amphitheater (originally built in 2nd century a.d) which is still kept in good condition. The structure is mostly made of lava stones. They replaced some of the fallen or damaged stones with a mold of plastic and lava rock.

Very impressive place. When we went there it was closed for refurb atm, you can only see the part visible from the street. However don’t be fooled - there are two amphitheaters in Catania. This is one of them. I was very co fused at first but it was incredibly pleasant surprise once we found them both and visited.

You can see the ruins from outside and there is not too much to see.

Really beautiful ruins of the ancient amphitheater in the modern heart of Catania. Definitely worth visiting it by night and day as it reveals different views and feelings of past times. As it's located on the main shopping street, you cannot miss it whether you go for a walk, shopping or dinner.

The place itself has a unique atmosphere, but I must admit that there was a bit of a lack of explanations to better understand its intriguing history. Nevertheless, the summer atmosphere was enchanting, and exploring this historical site was truly memorable. Despite the limited information available, it's an experience I would recommend to anyone visiting Catania and wanting to immerse themselves in the city's history.

It’s temporary closed, but you can very well admire it. Suggest to read the explanations (there is a board at the expected entrance). Not a lot has been preserved but still gives you a good idea/ impression of the massive setting it used to be.

Beautiful place! It's my first amphitheatre actually. So, it's closed so I could not go in to look inside and I hope they finish the work soon and open up again!

Very nice place to visit and enjoy a walk with family or friends. We didn’t expect such a vast historical site. Do wear comfortable shoes, however and preferably not white ones as it’s very dusty and you’ll ruin them!
