I arrived to this hotel on a lively hot spring Saturday. The Lange Hezelstraat was flooded with shoppers, people passing by and many other people that were enjoying some drinks and food on the pubs and restaurants around.
Distracted by all the life that the street had, I took a turn on a street that had the hotel sign. Immediately I realized that it must be a multi building hotel and kept looking for the main entrance and reception, which were located on the Lange Hezelstraat, just a few meters further.
The front of the hotel looked nice, with some tables outside, although there was not one sitting there.
My arrival was 30 minutes before the check-in, which was supposed to be at 15hs, but that was not a problem. The guy at the reception, immediately looked for me on the computer and told me that payments were upfront. The reason for it was that all the rooms are not in the main building, as they are on separate buildings around the area.
Breakfast is only if you payed or let them knew in advanced since if they don’t have any breakfast appointment planned they won’t open. No spontaneous breakfast.
The receptionist gave my room keycard and explain me how to get there, so don’t expect a guided tour.
I got room 32, a nice hike to one of the top floors. I reached the 3rd (or 4th) floor after a series of aisles and turns. Elevator? No my friends. This is an old building, you and your legs are on your own! According to the hotel evacuation map I was on floor 2.
Finally there, the room was ready but really hot inside. No AC, but two fans available to move all that heated air around. Luckily I had a window with somewhat a nice view, and some fresh air that was coming in.
Initially everything looked cleaned, except for one or two hairs that were on the toilet and shower. Besides that, the room was nice, and small. Some people might call it gezellig.
My stay was nice, got room cleaning every day, the shower had good pressure, only thing that I did not like was the bed, the mattress was a bit uncomfortable, probably worn out.
Staff was friendly, and the time I had to call them they came really fast.
TL;DR;
- Payments upfront.
- Location is great.
- Service: really good.
- Hotel buildings are scattered.
- Breakfast must be notified upfront if you did not pay for it before, so they can prepare it the day before.
- Cleaning and room cleaning could be better.
- Shower pressure great.
- Bed was uncomfortable (probably the mattress was worn out).
- You must have a cellphone to call the reception (they don't have phone in the rooms - or at least mine did not have).
