Very calming, peaceful, and quiet place with beautiful views of the ocean. Somber vibe for those interested in history. There are memorial stones inscribed with the names of every soldier that died during the war from all nations. There is also a museum, a lacquer Buddha, and a few shop stands on the grounds. May want to bring sunscreen and a hat!

Wow! I didn’t realize that each prefecture has a memorial here. It was really beautiful to see all of them. The park is huge so you will definitely get all your wiggles out and there is a children’s park on one end as well. We would definitely recommend and go back again.

I’ve visited (every war memorial in Japan) and before visiting this one I thought the Kamakazi museum was the best. This museum doesn’t hold back and shows very graphic photos and writings of the suffering of the Okinawans during the war.

This is a huge memorial park with numerous memorials, monuments and shrines. The museum is definitely worth a visit (only 300 yen for adults) which showcases the history of Okinawa from the time the Japanese took over to when the Americans gave over the lands back to them (not appropriate for younger/sensitive kids as there are photos of dead Okinawans on display). The museum also has a small children's section which is worth a visit with the kids.

Huge park to remind us of history that took place during WW2. The views up top were amazing. We strolled for about 3 hours although the museum is closed until April. We also did not get to see the 32nd Army Underground. We were not sure if it was open but we didn't go because we had somewhere else to go. Wear comfortable shoes and take note this place is very windy so flowy skirts are not advised. And bring cash. The park is free but we were not able to enter the Peace Hall because they only accept JPY cash for the entrance fee.

Must visit while you're on the island. The historical significance and beauty of the park is unmatched. I quite enjoyed my time at the museum, the hall, and simply walking about the park and viewing the memorials.

Beautiful and serene park with dozens of monuments commemorating WWII. Many of the monuments were purchased by local communities or family members of the fallen. Make sure you give yourself at least an hour, but more like two. Restrooms, vending machines, and a few little shops are available in the parking lot. The park is not terribly wheelchair accessible, lots of stairs to see the good views and most of the memorials.

Peace prayer park. An awesome place to capture and get just a small glimpse of the battle of Okinawa during wwII. The ground’s are kept very well, the monuments with the names of those that fought during that battle is so beautiful. Not all names are present. The view of the cliff is breath taking. The indoor museum is amazing. It does cost about 300 yen to enter so plan accordingly. The art exhibit with the gigantic Buddha is unreal. You have to see it to believe it. And there is a small butterfly garden there as well. Great experience, great art gallery, great day to take in just a little bit of history.

My wife and I visited the Park for the first time when we toured the southern region of Okinawa Honto or main island with the rented car. We drove around the park, since it is still drizzling and the area of the park is rather huge. We parked the car a short distance away from the main entrance to walk around the grounds to have an overview of Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum. Opposite to the main entrance at the far end is the vast ocean. The park is well maintained and clean, and there are restrooms at the entrance of the museum. We did not visit the museum and there is fee to pay to visit the displayed exhibits at the museum.

Okinawa National Peace Memorial Park or Okinawa-senseki Kokutei Kōen is a memorial park for the soldiers who died for the Okinawa battle or war. It lists name of the soldiers of all sides- Japan and U.S., while it also lists some soldiers from Taiwan, South Korea and North Korea. In one section of the Park, it lists the name of sailors who worked in Japanese cargo boats which were attacked by U.S. navy [mainly by submarines] and sunk in Pacific Ocean. In another area, it documented the name of students, mainly female students, in Okinawa, who were conscripted as nursing or Medi-Care for the injured soldiers. Up to now, the Park has listed about 240,000 people who died at the Okinawa battle. Other than viewing for the memorials for soldiers and other people who died for the wars, visitors can actually visit the site for its well-designed monuments, ocean views, etc. For monuments alone, there are about 100 monuments in the Park, which is designed for seeking the global peace forever, while it uses large sum of soldiers and other people who died in the Okinawa battle to indicate the cruelty of the past war. The Park is free for admission, and there are a few public toilets for visitors.

It’s a park built to commemorate of those who died in Okinawa during the war. This is a place that every historian and younger generation should visit at least once when visiting Okinawa and remind us the tragedy and brutality that took place here. The park is huge and the views are breathtaking. Lots of parking available. When I visited, there were lots of high school students in the area and in the museum. But, on a Sunday...? Part of the park was closed and off limits due to renovations but the museum is open.

This place is a great history lesson. It is very sad what they had to go through. I knew nothing of this place before my aunt brought me here. I cant imagine the horrors they faced.

Speechless, very nice Memorial, I did not make it through without tearing up. It is so sad that the women actually young girls of Okinawa went through. WAR is a horrible thing! The second time coming here and it still is a remarkable Cenotaph with detailed accounts of the suffering.

This place reminds us of how lucky we are these days to be able to live in peace and to have choices to make in life. These girls had no choice at all. This place left me speechless of how tough lives were for these people during the war. Definitely a place worthy of visit in Okinawa.

It is a very sad spot since it keeps the memory of a very tragic moment in the war. But you cannot let these memories vanish. It is very demanding on your emotions but it is worth the visit and be one of the people that help to keep the memory alive.

The museum was very interesting and well made. The testomonies were poignant, and I learned a lot about the horrors that happened in the area during the war. It was a bit complicated to come from Naha by public transport, but if you have a car it's not far.

I have been to a lot of museums in Japan that have been about the War, but I think this museum stood out the most for me. Excellently presented, a very interesting exhibition with items that belonged to the students. Very, very sad but it’s important that their stories will never be forgotten. I’ll definitely go again! Incredibly well-put together memorial/museum honoring the memories and trials of a group of (young) people forsaken by their country while being attacked by outside forces. A beautiful, sobering reminder of the humanity lost in times of conflict. Just about every piece of material is translated with perfect English. I think only some of the poems weren't translated, which I understand.

A relatively nice place to visit for tourists compared to museum in the Naha city. Their translations are more ready for visitors to read. It was good to show tourists about the wwII history. Nice place to visit and the history shown was saddening.

A poignant story of how war affects innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. I like how the setup of the museum succeeds in making the visit enjoyable while avoiding the draggy-ness of over-information. The testimonials and accounts of the last days before the surrender were very interesting - glad there was English translation at that one booth in the room filled with Japanese scripts. The life-sized cave that opens up to the entrance of the museum is a nice touch too. Tip for drivers using Gmaps: Don’t put Himeyuri Museum as your destination and follow the route blindly, as I did. You’ll end up in a no man’s land below a hill the museum is located. Instead, put Himeyuri Memorial Tower as the destination and you’ll find some parking near the museum.

Very informational and easy to navigate museum. The price is affordable and the path is linear from start to finish. I am somewhat of a history buff so I drew insight from learning about the experiences of the Himeyuri students. No photography is allowed inside the museum, but that did not bother me. I took extra time to read everything and ponder what it must have been like for those girls...

The views were incredible (which I had attached some pictures) & it was not even close to being crowded. We had eaten at the little cafe which was very convenient. My family ended a day adventure at this wonderful yet heart wrenching Museum. I have to say it was a lot to take in from the park to the Memorial, how such a beautiful place can represent so much loss by mankind. I wish I could but the US & This Museum and merge them together. I have visited this museum and accompanying park several times over the years. I’m always taken aback by what it communicates about the war and its effects on Okinawans. This is a very somber place, but one that should always be visited in an effort to remember our past and not repeat it.

A huge museum with a extensive collection about the Okinawa campaign. If you spend time here you could easily spend more than an hour in here so if you plan to, you should plan accordingly. This museum really does help give you the perspective of the bloodiness of the battle and having lots of videos helps you visualise it. I would wish they allowed photography of the exhibits to help spread the message.

Words and phrases are powerless to describe the pains and sufferings of the Okinawa people. This memorial not only honors the soldiers who fought on both sides, but gives a voice to the innocent civilians who endured unimaginable sufferings and brutalities. As Lincoln once said "War at the best, is terrible, and this war of ours, in its magnitude and in its duration, is one of the most terrible."

One of the historical WW2 Battle in the Pacific. Almost 250,000 lost their lives from US, UK, Scotland, Taiwan, Japan, North Korea and South Korea. The Japanese general that commanded the Chinese invasion in Shanghai also died here with many of the top Japanese imperial troops. Highly possible from Japanese troops from Nanking. Thus, let's remember that no one wins in any wars and not to repeat same problem. Conflicts of Israel and Hamas, conflicts between Ukraine and Russia, propaganda of hatred towards Japanese from official China news, and past history should be learned from Battle of Okinawa. The park is definitely a must visit if you are interested in the war on Okinawa. A very humbling and welcomed perspective on the what went on during the battle for Okinawa. Read and watch as many placards and videos as they have there, you will not be disappointed in the information they provide.

A very decent memorial to the war in Okinawa. We were astonished by the tranquility of the place, everything is very wide and peaceful and you can lose yourself in a long walk along the park in contemplation. Museum itself has an exhibit focusing not only on the assault on Naha, but also on the post-war reconstruction period with a very nice permanent exhibition. Some pictures displayed are not for the faint of heart, but that is the outcome of any conflict. There is a no-picture policy inside. English translations are lacking a bit somewhere, but the room with the first-hand accounts of the assault on Naha were almost all translated into English, I recommend reading at least a few of them as they were what really brought me to realize what a terrible event it was.

This Museum is a very good place to learn about the history of Okinawa from the late 1800s to almost the present day, with the bulk of the exhibits covering the World War II period. There is a good amount of content in English. Unfortunately, the Museum does not allow photographs inside its building.

Hands down GREAT experience. LOTS of history in the museum itself and the iPods/headphones with your own language made it very informative. Took about 45 minutes inside and you can go at your own pace. Take notice of the many signs that say no photography and to be quiet while going through the indoor part. Don’t forget to take the elevator and go up the observation tower! Such spectacular views of everything. Outside has just as much history. Don’t be fooled by what you can see once you get outside. There is so much more if you climb the stairs or take a golf cart. You could easily spend all day seeing everything but you’ll at least need 2 hours to get through everything quickly. There is a small gift shop just beside the entrance/exit.
