However: When buying tickets if you do so with dollars be very careful with the change as they will give the worst value for your dollars, it is to my surprise that the practices at this church related to money are as such, in no other place in Dominican Republic I felt that people were trying to take advantage of tourists, it is a shame on the workers or management of this place to steal money from tourist.

Santo Domingo Cathedral, better known as Catedral Primada de América (America's Prize-winning Cathedral), was declared the first cathedral in the New World in 1546. This splendid minor basilica is dedicated to Santa María de la Encarnación. If you have your legs uncovered, they will lend you a loincloth at the entrance to hide your knees. Well worth the entrance fee to both see and support this historic gothic church; the first one in the Americas. Built in 1529. Audio tours are available for rent. No videos allowed, only photographs. Also, out of respect for the culture, as this is a Catholic church, we were kindly allowed to borrow a clean cloth to cover our bare shoulders and legs.

Absolutely beautiful Gothic style church. The architecture was amazing, and the presentation within was mesmerizing. They do have audio selections for a multitude of languages allowing you know what you were visualizing.

Traveling often can often leave you less impressed but this park was definitely something different than what we have seen. It’s definitely original and very well kept. The cave was very hot so that was a bit disappointing that we were dripping wet when we got out of there. But we definitely enjoyed this beautiful experience of nature. If you’re in SD I would recommend you check it out.

Beautiful nature in the middle of the city! The caves, water and nature is beautiful! Highly recommend people going here. Be sure to purchase tickets before you go, so you can have the QR code ready for them to print out or else you end up spending forever trying to load the website and forever to pay, especially if you are tourists. Other than the check in, the place itself has a great view and is self guided, but they do have a tour guide if you need it.

Wow! Beautiful national park! The caves are fun to explore and the price is not bad at all. It's about 200 pesos per person. I recommend you visit this park if you are in Santo Domingo.

It was a great site to visit in the city. We paid a guide, while took alot of photos of us. Definitely take the boat to the other lake. Buying the tickets was awkward they had you scan a QR code, register and pay. It would have been much easier to just hand them a credit card.

This is a beautiful place!!!! There is one of the lakes you need to cross in a boat , in very dark cave and they looks like paradise. We went with some friends and we enjoyed a lot this place.

A magnificent place to see a natural cave with transparent water inside. There are a lot of stairs, so be ready to walk on large stairs. You can bring your kids above 5 (recommended) if they like this kind of adventure. In the deep of the cave, there is a "boat" that transfers you to the other side of the cave where you can see a magnific lake outside of the cave, so bring your cam to take amazing pics. This place is very hot and humid in summer, so bring relaxed clothes. The place is very secure and crowded, especially with tourists, so relax and enjoy the view.

It was a fun experience. The tour guide told us the history of the cave along with information regarding the flora and fauna that thrive there. We learned about the benefits of the water etc. The park had clean public restrooms and the entry cost was reasonable. They also had craft vendors selling souvenir items . On the lawns were native artwork and native trees.

The caves here would definitely be worth a 5 star reputation but the people selling the tickets just spoil this. I'm going to explain what I mean: It's a beautiful national park with these amazing 4 lakes to explore from the top and from above. It's clean and safe and a nice change to city life. You'll get down quite a few steps to look at the lakes, take pictures. It's a bit slippery and humid in there. If you want you'll pay extra to get on a little boat to take u to the last cave- that's definitely worth it. And it's just 50pesos. Entrance fee for the national park is 200pesos, so not too expensive. But there's lots of people who turn around at the entrance and don't get to see the beauty. Why? Well there's heaps of tour guides working with the ticket people. So they would just pretend and tell u you're not allowed to pay cash even though the guides pay cash. Then they would tell you, you can't get a ticket unless you book a guided tour. Or that you're just allowed a certain amount of tickets and you'll end up with more tickets when you need. All of this in Spanish and always pointing at a QR code to pay online. As we had no mobile data we didn't try this and went through the hassle of arguing with them for a while...

Beautiful natural water holes in the city area. Although you cannot swim they are beautifully preserved and maintained in the natural state. Place is clean and good for families and tourists alike. It was about a 45 min visit and enough to see all major water exhibits.

Interesting and amazing underground grutes (caves), the underground river has formed the inner lakes (also called cenotes). Really impressive place. Pretty humid and there are many steps to go in and come out. Get ready and bring comfortable shoes and clothes.

We had a guided tour of 3 of the 4 springs in the cave. The park, cave, and springs were beautiful, but our guide did rush us through. My husband and I enjoy the beautiful sites and history/educational tour of the cave. There are people at the end that walk through who are trying to sell you items. So be ready for that as well.

This was a place I found reading some one else's review of the area. Having visited many caverns all around the US this was a very special place to find. There are a lot of steps but it's well worth it. I had hiking sandles but I saw others in flip flops manage with no trouble. We booked a tour but I didn't realize it was for the wrong day but we already drove there so decided to take the walk without the tour. It would have been nice to hear some of the history of the cavern but it was easy enough to follow the paths to all 4 of the rivers. I was amazing to see the water in the light as all of the caverns I visited are not open air.

Wear sturdy shoes with good tread; some areas of the cave can get slippery when wet. Temperatures inside the caves tend to be hot and humid so dress in light, loose-fitting clothes. Bring some insect repellant as mosquitos can be a problem. Although the caverns are quite spacious upon arrival, the deeper you venture into the caves, the more compact they become. Additionally, if you have mobility issues, traversing the entrance's long staircase may be troublesome. For those looking to take a break from the city's rich history, this is a good option.

The way they are set up to charge for entrance is a bit of a hassle but the attraction was absolutely amazing. Be prepared to climb stairs.

The Italian Renaissance inspired Alcazar de Colón [Castle of Columbus] is also called Palacio Virreinal de Diego Colón [Viceroy Palace of James Columbus]. This building was the first viceroy palace in the Americas, along with the home of Colón y Toledo. Last restored in 1955, the building is now a historical museum with sporadic opening times. The museum was closed for maintenance during my visit.

Imo, the authenticity of the furniture is questionable, as the palace was looted many times, heavily by pirate Drake, but it is still a great place to visit in Zona Colonial.

Beautiful Old historical residential museum in the heart of Zona Colonial which was built by Diego Columbus. The ticket to enter was about $2/person. It comes with an audio device where you can learn about the history of the museum and each room. On the second floor, you can see a beautiful view of the river and the Colonial area. We spent about 30-45 minutes here and it's definitely worth visiting if you are in the colonial area. It was not crowded and the staffs were pleasant.

Did not unfortunately see the new restoration this trip around but it looks like it's coming out great! The plaza and zone was packed with people and tourists. It seems to be all coming along quickly. They are restoring most historical building around as well. The areas to eat have expanded a lot as well. So many options to choose from.

It was interesting going back in time like that, visiting their home and walking through it's walls. The fee was very low for visiting the museum, only 2$ and the included audio tour was very good and helpful.

Audioguides are given out at the entrance however I had a tour goide and don't believe I got as much out of it as I might have, since explanation was about little other than it being Christopher Columbus' house which was destroyed by Frances Drake.
