A fort and town was established at the foothills of Girnar hill during reign of the Maurya Empire. Abhira Chudasama King Graharipu Ahir (r. c.940-c.982) cleared the old structure from the jungle. and laid the foundations of the new citadel. Dewan of Junagadh State, Haridas Viharidas had restored the fort In 1893-94. Government of Gujarat initiated restoration of the fort and the structures inside it In July 2020. Structures - Jumma Masjid built by Mahmud Begada. The Tomb of Nuri Shah is close to the mosque. There are two Wells in the Uparkot — the Adi Kadi Vav is descended by a long flight of steps; and the Navghan Kuvo, cut to a great depth in the soft rock, and with a circular staircase. Uparkot Caves are 2nd-3rd century double storeyed Buddhist cave complex located in the Uparkot. Nawabi Lake is a square artificial lake.

Had a great time at the fort. Would highly recommend carrying water and staying hydrated at all times. One should also carry umbrellas and caps to protect against the sun. The fort also has some excellent guides. I would urge everyone to get a guide to learn some interesting stories of the fort.

Very Impressive. Govt gave renovation work to a private contractor for ₹ 386 crores under ASI supervision. Beautifully renovated. Neat and clean. Entrance is Rs. 100/- per person and Rs 236/- for guide (optional). This goes to the private contractor managing the fort. Over and above you need to tip the guide.

Uparkot has historical importance, and is well maintained. It's wide spread,huge and majestic too.Guides are people friendly. E-washroom is a great concept that I liked here. E-vehicle is available here but was not functional when I went. Kids zone, gardens and greenery are worth seeing.

Its a 2300 year old fort and was constructed by the chudasama dynasty. It was closed for almost 4 years for restoration and has now been reopened. Electric vehicles are also available. Its situated right beside the girnar hills and has lots to offer. From chudasamas to mauryas to rajputs, many dynasties have ruled over this fort and have left their marks here. Even light soothing music is played at some parts. A good 4-5 hours are required to cover this fort. Also its very pictersque. Fantastic monument. Must visit.

Loved the history this fort has to offer . Need a good 3 hrs at least to explore the entire fort. The Buddha caves inside the fort is a must visit. Note entry is only allowed till 4 pm after which tickets are not given .So reach before 4pm to take an entry inside the fort.

It's a fort which used to accommodate whole town in it. Great place-- not to be missed. Very historical place. If you can go on foot it is definitely better but if you can not, there is an electrical car which takes you to the places in the fort. It takes around 2 hrs to move around and if you can spend little more time it should be better. It is restored recently but still more work has to be done.

This is a nice fort with wide place.. Avoid the hot sun as you have to walk a lot although there are golf carts available if one cannot walk.. or else take an umbrella sunscreen with you..There is a canteen inside with everything available from cold drinks icecreams to eatables with a token system

Well maintained. Water coolers at many locations inside. Great view of ⛰️ mountains. The lake here and water purifier system of old time are still amazing. Entry Ticket is 100 rupees for Indians. You can get bicycle inside for ride. Cycle track is also there.

Uparkot was really a must visit place before the government made huge commercial development inside the fort. Now it's less historical and more urban. You will have to pay separately for visiting the Baudhh Caves which are already there inside the fort, and for the fort itself there are entry fees of Rs.100/- per person. It is a great historical place, but the government has changed it to a commercial place by building Game Zones, Food Zones, Sports & Entertainment Zones inside the fort. They just vanished the original beauty of the historical fort. I am not recommending visiting Uparkot now.

Uperkot is oldest and very popular place of junagadh. Recently it is developed by Junagadh municipality, whole place is connected through nice walkways, electric car is also available, it starts with magnificent gate with nice carvings, palace, Adi kadi vav, Ra navghan kuvoand sarovars which are built by naval of junagadh. Gazabo, water fountains and beautiful landscaping enhances the place. It’s an excellent combination of history and modernisation. A must visit place. Best time to visit is winter.

Great place, after renovation the place is stunning. Best way to have a day of picnic and learn about history. Great place to bring children. Do get the e-vehicle and ride on it, as the place is too big and going on feet will be exhausting. Also going in a vehicle, will save a ton of time as well as energy to explore different places within the fort.

The place is completely redefined after renovation. Very directional and open. It is very clean and have speakers at certain distance. It was delightful experience. The ticket is 100 but worth the roam. And it'll take 2-3 hours if you fully explore every place. Read every monument and click lots of pictures

It's a really good place to visit if you are more of a history person. The fort is huge and takes around 3 hours to fully explore it. I have had a chance to visit it with my family but we didn't have much time to enjoy it thoroughly, though we managed to go through the main attractions in this fort and learned more about the history. The type of people there were, old weapons used by the king and the facilities provided in the fort to make people's lives easy. It was a very good and memorable experience! Take some time and explore this fort with your friends and family.

GIRNAR: Let me share you my experience of THE Girnar. Journey from Ahmedabad To Junagadh via Train. Railway station To Girnar destination via Auto. You can negotiate there its fun. Started climbing after refreshment at hotel and breakfast at around 4AM. ( Don't worry, you wont be alone, you will see many people starting to climb at this time. Also locals will be there to guide you) Bring Food (Fast food) and water with you in Bag. Girnar has around 10K steps (one way) and highest peak of Gujarat state. There are more than 3 temples in different level of Peak. Last destination would be Dattatrey Temple at 10k steps. 3 ways to hike: Trekking, Ropeway and doli. Ropeway will help you till 4k steps at Ambaji temple. You will have to strike for Dattatrey by walking only or Doli. It took approx 2 hours to reach Ambaji temple (4k step). The view from there is just spledid fr. From there, it would take another 2 hours to reach 10k steps at dattatrey. And The view from highest peak there will literally take your breathe away. Its one in a lifetime experience. Its like go before you turn 30 experience to me. They also provide you free lunch there in one of temples idk name. In my opinion, Go visit there only in Monsoon as you wont be tired in this season, also wont be needing drinking water much. Winter would be difficult as your body wont allow you to trekk in this temprature. And dont even think about summer lol. Its a one day Trekking so you can plan ut on saturday so you can rest sunday and go to jail, i mean job, on monday. We walked +24km in Girnar (smart watch). Beautiful Place. Best hiking experience. If you are going to climb the entire 10000 stairs, start early in the morning. We started at 2.00 am and reached Gurudev Datta temple at 6.30 am. Sunrise was worth to watch. You can also go by rope way, it starts at 7.00 am.

Wonderful and beautiful mountains, sunset, climate and temples😍. From Ropeway you reach to mata temple and it's in the middle of jain and dattatray mountain. The steps are really hard so please rent wooden stick. Come up with snacks & drinking water because expensive over here. Only one problem is there tourist throws all the waste in the mountains so it is damaging natural elements and also it's harmful how can they clean the mountain deeply. Please use your mind and dustbin.

I like this girnar mountain very much as the beautiful nature place. Wonderful feeling while climbing the Girnar. This is one of Jain's most important Pilgrims. At 4000 staircases, there is Jain tirth of Mulnayak Shree Neminath Bhagwan. It's an ancient idol all over the world. At 5500 staircases, Hindu Temple of Shree Ambika Mata ji. And at 10000 staircases, peak of the mountain there is Shree Dattatray Temple. Ropeways facilities are available at Ambika Mata temple, 5500 staircases.

One of most divine place on the earth I must say! Girnar moutain is older than Himalaya and it has Ambaji mata the incarnation of Parvati Mata and Guru Dattatray on its peak, makes very auspicious and divine. One must visit this mountain once in a life. It has 10000 steps, in order to climb this you need to be physically feet. There is also ropeway cable car service available till Ambaji temple. After that you need to climb 3000 more steps which will take 2-3 hours to reach Guru Dattatray temple. Darshan of Ambaji mata and Guru Dattatray bhagwan makes you refresh, your fatigue will get vanished and you will feel the inner peace for sure. One of the highlight place in Junagadh. If somebody is coming 1st time then place use cable instead of walking if you are coming in hot weather. It will talk 3-4hrs to climb up and 1-2 hrs to climb down. If you want to climb by walk then be sure in night as in night weather is not that much hot.

Totally there are about 9999 steps to and fro from Girnar Girinagar Girnar also known as Girnar Hill or main tourist attraction in the area, top of the hill, is a group of beautifully carved Jain temples built between 1128 and 1500. Neminath, the 22nd tirthankara. There is the peak of Ambaji, with a height of 3,330 ft (1,010 m), which is famous for the temple dedicated to the goddess Amba Mata dating back to the 12th century. The steps go down and up again to Gorakhnath Peak at 1116m (3666 ft) above sea level, where there are footprints of the rishi Gorakhnath. The steps again go down and there is Kamandal Kund and another peak where there are footprints of Guru Dattatreya. The steps to Dattatrey Peak are quite difficult. Visitors must climb 8,500 steps to reach the top of the hill, so it is best to start early in the morning (before 6 am)

The zoo was really nice. But maintenance of it was not up to the mark. Cleanliness was not cool. I hope authorities will try to make it more beautiful and provide more facilities to animals so that they can survive more and be happy. Birds were the highlights of the zoo for me since there were many birds in the zoo.

Small Zoo. But there are many kinds of animals and most of the attractions were many types of beautiful bird species. Just see my uploads. If you are visiting junagadh don't miss the chance to visit this zoological park. It's old but well maintained and clean and a very pleasant place for those animals. Ticket price is 30 rupees per person which is a very decent price and absolutely carry cash there is no online payment system for buying tickets.

Zoo is very big. Tickets for only ₹ 5 are available. There is a charge for parking Rs 40. for car. Many animals and birds are available in the zoo. 4 lion and 2 leopard, there is also a snake and a dragon is available. If you have the strength to walk, then go there. Only one ice cream & Cold drinks shop is available inside the zoo.

If u visit jungadh, then this is highly recommended & must visit place.. Good place to go with or without kids... lots of varieties & species of animals & birds are found here. Do not miss INTERNAL SAFARI with extra cost of Rs 50 per person. The zoo entry ticket is Rs 30 per adult Safari Rs 50 per adult.

Well maintained zoo, with a number of animal species. Special attraction is of course the Asiatic Lion. Also saw Hippopotamus here for the first time. A great number of Bird species are also present, indigenous as well as exotic.

The gate is 30 rupees per person. The best zoo I've ever been to. The animals are well-fed. It has a variety of different scare animals. I sighted so many amazing animals of different species and the zoo educationist named, Shreya, was so detailed about each of them. I enjoyed my visit and it was an awesome exploration.

One of the oldest zoo of India - almost 160 years old.. Needs lot of maintenance. Officials should understand this to maintain the glory of a zoo which could be a matter of pride for Gujarat They do have variety of wild animals, birds, reptiles, fishes, etc. It's definitely fun time for kids to see variety of animals and birds Setback was the cages, play area, etc which were in bad shape. They do have ample parking space. Location is easily approachable.

Located near Sonrakh River Bridge on the Junagadh-Rajkot highway in Junagadh city. Considered one of the prime Junagadh tourist attractions, the zoo authorities are famed for having wild and free moving Asiatic lions that have been wiped out from most of Asia and are nowadays found only in the nearby Gir Forest. Apart from the Asiatic Lions, the Junagadh Zoo is home to 700 mammalian species, 115 reptiles, and 200 hundred birds. Chowsingha or the four-horned antelopes, Indian Leopards, chital, sambar, blackbucks, black panther, hippopotamus, Crocodiles, Ostriches, spotted deer, flying squirrel, monkey, etc. are the main animal species found in the zoo. Lush-green Ravantad tad palms, foxtail palms, tall Ashoka trees, and large banyan trees visible from the busy road add to the beauty of the zoo’s general surroundings which otherwise resemble that of the Gir forest, the last abode of Asiatic lions in the world. They've taken away the tigers as they were nowhere to be seen during the visit. As of the conditions of animals were not in a proper manner. Wildlife should be protected at any cost as they are very essential for our mother nature. Taking utmost care of them and providing necessary facilities will do a little part on ourselves to ensure the beautiful mother nature.

This is also one of most calm and most attractive place in Junagadh, The temple is on highway but you don't get any traffic sounds, the garden is well maintaining by temple authority. I would recommend to visit this place when you come to Junagadh

Wonderful temple surrounded by mountains. Very silent and serene place. Amazing architecture and such beautiful idols of all the deities! It was such a vibrant atmosphere… The entire campus is very big with gardens all around. In the evening the sunset and the sky look so pretty and the temple looks even more pretty with the lighting. I would this is a beautiful temple worth visiting if in this area ✨

By far, the most beautiful and lush Mandir campus! This Mandir is so serene and divine, just by walking in its grounds you feel at such peace and calmness. There is lush bushes, trees and groves of different fruits and shrubs; which are well attended to and ever kept green and lush even in the hot summer months. This Mandir is a must visit for anyone coming to Junagadh! From the Mandir you can clearly see Mount Girnar and the surrounding mountain hills. The Mandir has beautiful Murtis and unique architecture. Below the Main Mandir is the Nilkanth Varni Mandap, which also has a very interesting design. All of the volunteers and Pujya Santo are very very kind, friendly, approachable and more than happy to help, they all look after guests and visitors brilliantly. The utara accommodation here is first class! The rooms are superbly clean and modern, rooms come with and without AC, with warm water showers and bathrooms ensuite. The Mandir also provides free meals to all 3 times a day, as well as a special dining area for those staying in the utara. Adjacent to the Mandir is the newly opened Vidhya Mandir (School), which offers amazing western-style education with modern and new facilities unparallell with many others.

The temple is the place of peace for the mind. The aura of this temple is awesome. The Murti of lord Swami Narayan is very nice and attracts us.

Visited Shri Dattatray Temple at Girnar today. Located on the peak of the mountain. Holy place. One should be visit this place whenever u r around Junagad or doing pilgrimage tour of Gujarat specially Saurashtra. U can start early in the morning or take 7.00 am first rope way ride so that u can come back around 1 pm at foothill.

I was extremely mesmerized. Seriously this place makes my heart. I recommend a once in a lifetime, visit to this location. But yes, it was very hard to reach there. Only people who are well prepared can reach there. You have to go through 4000 stairs from up to down and then again upside. Once you have seen that amazing view, all your tiredness will be gone. But mostly there is a Misty environment. I recommend visiting during winter or summer.

There was not dattatray temple there was bhagvan Neminath temple from many centuries 🙏🙏

It takes 10000 steps to get here ... High altitude location. Its about 1100m above sealevel. Very divine place. Cameras Mobile phones usage are not allowed. You can carry them but switch them off. It's peaceful and divine place and Guru Dattatreya maharaj is still present here..

Guru Dattatreya Bhagwan (God) has been here for a long time for meditation. If you coming by train get down at Junagadh Station and catch a bus/Auto from there to reach the mountain. From there we have ropeway till Ambaji temple i.e at 5000 steps and from there we need to go by walk to reach Dattatreya temple. We have lodges, in Dharamshala near the mountain but during peak time try to make your stay plan at Junagadh itself. Temple is located on Girnar mountain at 3295 ft above sea level and at 9999 steps . We need to cross 3 Hills to reach this temple It's very crowded on Shivarathri and During peak time, we have a separate route to come down which is laid around the mountain and total steps will be around 25000 including ascending and descending We have a Ropeway facility till Ambaji temple only after that next 5000 steps need to go by walk to reach Dattatreya temple. During Shivarathri or peak time, we need to stand in long queues to get our turn for the ropeway. Food stalls, water, and other refreshment are available throughout the journey. People are friendly over here and the Gujrat police force will be safeguarding this place. It was an excellent experience climbing the hills. it's Worth a visiting once in life. During normal days, the Dattatreya temple closes at 12 midnight and opens in the morning at 5:30 am. During Normal days, on average a person can take around 6 to 7 hrs. to climb 10000 steps, and during Peak hours or festival time it takes 12-15 hours to finish 25000 steps ascending and descending On normal days the shops along the climbing path are generally closed by 9:00 pm and again start opening by 2 or 3 am at the night. On Poornima days the temple is open throughout the night so no problem. It's an adventurous trip and experiences the mesmerizing atmosphere We have network issues over here so plan accordingly. Try to climb the mountain early in the morning or during winter.

One of the best experiences I’ve ever been . 2nd Aisa’s largest ropeway .. No Space storage for your luggage, you should take care of your luggage by yourself. Total 9999 steps to travel, with the help of Ropeway I reached around 5300 steps and then we should walk remaining step towards Guru Datta Temple. The ropeway time closes at 6 evening that is the last rope time. You can also walk, It takes around 5 to 6 hours upside and 3 hours for return, if you want to go by walk there is no waiting time but if you want to try ropeway you must buy ticket in advance because I waited around one and half hour for a ropeway not a bad experience but not good experience also .the weather was so beautiful. it’s a walk to heaven . 🙌

Worth to visit this places. I loved to walk on steps it's about 1200 step to reach this temple after ropeway. Ropeway is itself an amazing experience but to reach this temple is an challenge task and need some extra stamina to climb that way. So should carry electroll or glucose tables to feel hydrated. Best time to visit this place is winter because of weather. Summer will make you more tired n you will not enjoy the climbing and rainy season will make it more difficult to climb through steps. So better to visit this place between October and November or between Feb to March.

One of the hardest Guru dattatreya mandir to visit, We should have the courage,confidence and patience to climb 10,000 stairs to get a darshan of this mandir...Best experience ever!...Jay Girnari!
